First time, will come back

By U5133IRbrians |

The food was good and the portions were big. The service was friendly and fast. Most of the meals were piecemeal, so sides and drinks were separate from the sandwich.

Good sandwiches and fries.

By Jay F |

Went to New World Deli before a play at Htyde Park Theater. Had a Reuben, a Pastrami sandwich, and fries. The sandwiches were very good. We thought the pastrami was better than the corned beef. Next time we will share a pastrami Reuben. Nice live music tonight. The sandwiches are pretty big. Good bread. Will go back.

Excellent sandwiches

By Rhiar23 |

I stopped in while I was in the neighborhood and had one of the best french dip sandwiches ever. It's a funky little deli with a great menu and delicious food. It looks as if they have live music as well since there is a small stage. Everyone is friendly and helpful.

Great Sandwiches!

By SabrinaC411 |

Went for early lunch today. Tried the Reuben and the Rachel sandwiches with fries and we could not have been happier. Bread was very good and fries were very crispy. Owner, Greg, introduced himself and called us by name when we left. Looking forward to our next visit!

Good lunch spot

By SeeThis_n_That |

Had two very tasty sandwiches (turkey & Ham) and one piece of the chocolate cake, which was very good. Clerk was a bit grouchy. There were tables to eat in, but we got take out.

A Keeper

Always a great, funky place. Much more than sufficient menu, great food and friendly/helpful wait staff A great place to hang out. And sometimes their is free entertainment on the little corner stage. Always a pleasure to go there!

WOW....Best Chicken Curry Salad I have ever earten

By Ranch T |

We were taken here by our daughter and her boyfriend for Sunday lunch/ brunch. We were blown away by the taste of everything. The chicken curry sandwich and salad were exceptional as was the Cuban and Grilled Chicken on Rye... I cant wait to drive back to Austin and eat there again.

Don't count on it

By Lizabeth K |

I have Celiac Disease and am lactose intolerant, so I need to eat gluten and dairy free. I have eaten at New World Deli before and had no problem. On my second visit, HOWEVER, the kitchen staff really failed me. My sandwich (veggie Reuben) was served with dressing that was not gluten free (it pays to ask), the server was rude, took it back to the kitchen and then eventually brought me a sandwich without dressing but with CHEESE and he was even more rude. I took it back to the counter person, who was very nice, but the bottom line was I could not trust their food to be safe. IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGY/INTOLERANCE ISSUED DON'T COUNT ON YOUR FOOD SAFETY.

Wonderful Surprise

By shelly r |

What a wonderful surprise! Who goes to a deli for live music? I guess we do in Austin. Live music 6 nights a week! Charming, excellent food (Reuben and Cheese Steak - you also need to try the fries & carrot cake). The owner and his family are extremely attentive and welcoming. We will be exploring more of the menu and music!

Tuesday Beatles Acoustic Night

By FoodfanUSA |

Best kept secret for a Tuesday night in Austin. Listening room atmosphere but more casual. Fantastic sandwiches with something for everyone. Just right selection of beer, wine, and nonalcoholic. I'll be back!

Rueben Sandwich, the best ever!

By Shuttrrbug |

Read the reviews and had to come to New World. Due to Covid, there were just a few people dining in the restaurant. The Rueben Sandwich is simply the best we have ever had. Suggestion, it is so large, we split and were quiet full with just a half. Add some chips and a drink, a great meal. Manager was really a great guy, stopped by to chat with us. Appears live entertainment is available once Covid is over. Like anywhere in Austin if you are from out of town, a bit difficult to locate. Parking is limited too. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

Favorite Haunt for Bluegrass Music and Quality Food!

By VegasHopper |

This is one of my favorite restaurants that serves quality food, has a hometown ambiance, and where you can hear excellent Bluegrass music on some Thursdays! My last visit included consumption of their incredible chocolate cake. And, when I say chocolate, I mean HEAVY on the chocolate! This is the type place where you may have to look hard for a parking place and get there relatively early for a good table, but their eclectic menu and quality food preparation make it worth the effort. While their desserts are incredible they also have some wonderful sandwich and deli type food. One of my favorites is their veggie burger with fries. Whether you're vegetarian or not, you really should try it. By the way, don't forget to tip the waitresses and the bands!

Down Home Lunchspot Fast and Friendly ALWAYS!!

By Burke W |

Located North of the U of T campus, just around the corner from Central Market. We have been eating lunch here for many years, and although we come by every few months, the owner and his wife( Greg and Sarah Bontempo) always has time to say Hi and usually comes by the table. Fun comfortable place with great soups and sandwiches made fresh to order. Windowside dining overlooks the street with a few outdoor tables when the weather permits. I LIKE THIS PLACE!. Your choice of a quick in and out or a comfortable place to bring a book or a tablet and take a long lunch. I might add they have music and serve dinner also. Open 11-9 everyday 11-5 Sunday

Get the Cuban sandwich if available!

By Jennifer N |

The NWD is a close by spot where I frequently get lunch with colleagues. First of, this place has a place in my heart for the folks who work there (wondering about waitress Lesbia? She was the best!). Of course the go-to's are the sandwiches....I recommend the Cuban hands down, but the grilled cheese (customized to your preferences), Reuben (I ask for extra Russian) and --wow-- the tomato basil soup are great. The chocolate cake is to die for and they have gluten free sweet options too. The one flag I would raise is that the chicken "salad" is just that-- not a a green salad with grilled chicken. I would not have had a problem with that but my colleaugue was very disappointed (it is not specified on the menu board but we did not inquire so lesson learned).

Great iconic Austin place

By Alice S |

Great selection of creative sandwiches, unique sloppy joe combinations, homemade soups (all Gluten Free!), salads, Maine Root sodas, salads, local bakery desserts. Right near Central Market, but on Guadalupe. Indoor & outdoor seating. Seems like the place where this owner wants to invite the locals to relax and eat well.

Good neighborhood cafe and music venue

By Traveler13Pa |

Tasty, fresh meals, with some veggie choices. Unique and delicious vegetarian Reuben sandwich. Try their homemade coleslaw. Happy staff. Great prices. Order at the counter, they deliver to your table, you bus yourself. Refill soft drinks and coffee at the dispensers. Laid back, rustic feel. Live music on a small stage in the cafe on many nights. It's a small venue so arrive early for best seats and parking. Caught the Eggmen here after dinner in November 2015 on their regular Tuesday night, playing acoustic Beatles tunes - great music, and many in the crowd appeared to be regulars. Friendly, fun place!

Best Reuben Sandwich In THE WORLD

By Nathan K |

I've spent 26 years in the Navy and chased my favorite, the Reuben sandwich, all around the country and the world. Greg's pastrami Reuben sandwich is THE BEST in the WORLD. Forget Katz' that's a soggy mess that you have to eat with a fork. Forget Sam's in Boston, their bread is thin and mush. This sandwich is perfect when he puts it in front of you, and the 2nd half is still crispy on the bottom when you get to it. Meat, bread, krout, sauce, all craft made in house and it is PERFECT. Don't ask me about any other items, this is the only thing I've ever ordered here.

Delicious Deli

By Jim T |

Gluten Free options, homemade soups, alcohol options, free live music, free parking, convenient location, tasty sandwiches, friendly staff…what more needs to be said?

Good sandwiches.

By smb3815 |

The sandwiches are good hardy fare for lunch and add a side and you will definitely be over fed. New World Deli and the Café are well known for their Ruben sandwich.

So-so

By mleeunderwood |

It's a fine deli. Nothing to write home about. They seem to really prey on the hipster vibe; the food was fine and the service was good, but at the end of the day it was nothing special.

Best Eggplant Parmesan sandwich in the whole of Austin

By LauraR4040 |

The deli makes the best eggplant parmesan sandwich in Austin, and their french fries are out of this world. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants to have a nice sandwich. My favorite dish.

Top Austin Deli North of the Lake

By Matta15 |

Austin isn’t a deli town. One time I asked someone where to get a good sandwich and they directed to a chain. Thank god I got out of the car and tried this small gem on Guadalupe. The menu is everything you’d want for a delicious and filling lunch. I’m a major fan of their hummus sandwich with everything. It’s also pretty cool they serve the Austin music community with a side stage for live performances. All in all, a must go to on the Austin food scene.

Don't worry about your food

By John R |

It is where you need not worry about your allergies. They have gluten free sandwiches and cookies on offer. The will also make sandwiches to your specific needs. A really good place to eat at any time.

Amazing Cuban Sandwich

By S T |

All the food in Austin seems to be ridiculously good, and this place is no exception. I was there for a Mondo Art exhibit/print sale and we waited in line all day. The owner or manager came to check on us throughout the line waiting which was nice. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and it was sooooo good. Huge portions. My friends all ordered something different, and their food looked great as well!

Good sandwiches and live music.

We went here to see a friend's group perform - Southland. It was a great experiece. Decent wine, excellent food, cozy setting. Everyone was pleasant and friendly. Good menu selections, fair prices.

Great lunch!

By Danielle S |

This was our first stop after flying in from Philadelphia for a bite to eat. The homemade chicken poblano soup was fantastic. I thought about for the rest of the day! My sisters Reuben was top notch. The service is friendly and fast. Great spot for a healthy bite to eat. They have coffees too, which I hope to try next time.

Best Reuben

By SLL L |

I have had my share of Reubens and this one was notable. First off me and my 18 yr old college kid walk into this place and were greeted like regulars, we both order pastrami Reubens. The sandwich was awesome, seems other places cannot get the heat right between the Sauerkraut and the meat or the Russian dressing is too cold, the toasted rye was firm all the way through. The owner floated around chatting up the customers which I prefer to see and waitstaff were what I expect at local Austin, which is quirky and settling. Definitely putting this place in my circuit.

MEATBALLS!

By Tyler S |

The meatball sub is, I think, teh best in town. And they don't look at me all cock-eyed when I ask for extra mayonnaise. They understand nuance, or at least they ignore my religious devotion to mayonnaise.
