Great food and atmosphere. Can't go wrong here. Service was fantastic. Separate bar and dining room makes it work for a family.

Nick's staff is super helpful and friendly. Pretty good Happy Hour specials. Nice people who go there as well.

Cheap finishes make this place seem like something you'd find in a strip mall. Dive bar clientele. Cheap pub food, mostly greasy and fried. Roast beef here is kinda gross and fatty. Menu is huge, likely something for everyone as long as you are okay with overly fried foods. Cheese steaks might be the best thing here, though not the best in the area.

We had the roast beef sandwich. It was fine, but I expected a bigger portion and better taste. It did not overwhelm me, and was just as good as other places we have visited.

The best roast beef sandwich you will ever have!! The fresh rolls, great beef, aged provolone; and a touch of horseradish.....fantastic!! Lots of beers to choose from and a great staff. I have been a customer for many years, and I am NEVER disappointed. Try Nick's, you'll be very glad you did.... I promise.

We didn't eat here, but we got a couple drinks and a free shot. TV's, a fishtank and quiet atmosphere to have some beers, enjoy the time and not pay an arm and a leg for booze. Very chill. Great place.

Dont expect anything too fancy here. The staff are nice, the food is ok, but nothing to make you write home about. Prices are fair, the location is ok and the decor inside is very casual. I'd go again if I couldnt find anything else. Nothing really wrong with Nick's, just nothing out of the ordinary

Great lunch. sat at the bar, food was superb. Great service, bartender and other patrons were friendly.

My husband and I visited this Nick's Roast Beef at the end of October after a Ghost Tour......the food was good, but the service was definitely NOT with a smile. Our young waitress was so unfriendly to the point of making us feel like we were putting her out.....perhaps she was unhappy about working on a Saturday night, who knows. Bartenders had the same bland expressions on their faces, by the way. The food was good though. Not an ounce of fat on the roast beef sandwiches. The fries were good too. Next time I'll get take-out from this particular restaurant.........

Nothing to dislike (except maybe the occasional crowd that spills outside). Food is very good and the bartenders keep you going with both simple shots and fancy drinks depending on your mood.

Found this spot while on a Saturday excursion for a late lunch. The food was above average and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for a drink and a sandwich.

Where to go for lunch in Old Philly for good food at a decent price? Not many places. This place is not much more than Mickey D's (Golden Arches), and has a great selection at great prices. Service was outstanding. I hosted a pre-wedding, extended family lunch get-together (17 people plus 3 infants) here and it was perfect. It looks like a small place but we were very comfortable in the back room. And it didn't break the bank.

Nicks a phila. institution the best Roast Beef on the planet. If I am within 5 miles I will stop also order the fries with gravy.

We were up for the Philadelphia Eagles Panthers game and we found the spot for karaoke on a Saturday night great food the two bartenders were awesome and interactive it happened to be the Halloween night costume crawl which added to the flavor of the customer experience The food was good and a fair value the Michelob Ultra and the fireball of course was awesome and the best part of all no freaking smoking I loved it Fly Eagles Fly baby!!!

Amid all the upscale and hipster restaurants in Old City sits Nick's Roast Beef, a throwback but my roast beef sandwich was very good. Peppers, gravy and horse radish were served on the side to allow me to garnish my sandwich as I liked it. Roll was also nice and firm, not soggy.

Awesome Place to go. Older bar atmosphere . Roast beef amazing!! Bartender who I think is the owner very cool.

haven't been there since collage :-(

I loved this place. It's small and cozy and a very good staff. The bartender was super nice. She talked me into a new infused vodka (I usually don't care for) it was great. My friend had the roast beef and spinach sandwich and I had the cheesesteak... both were great, mine was a little dry but still very good. It was a great place for lunch and I would do it again.

I asked a local where to eat and he said NICKS! And off I went. The food was awesome and except for Patriots losing I had a good time.

We went there for happy hour great selection of beers & apps to chose from. But that's just the beginning the sandwiches are the real stars. We started with Italian long hots stuffed with sharp provolone & prosciutto awesome. Then I had a cheeseburger which was huge fresh & delicious. My wife had the pulled pork with jalapeños slaw she loved it. The bartender & the owner are always making sure your satisfied, you also get to chat with locals & people from around the world alike because of its location. We will definitely be back soon!

Great local dive. Servers could not have been more helpful. Large tasty roast been sandwich or "plain" cheese steak for less than $6.00. The sandwich rolls are fantastic. Came out smiling.

sloppy sand which

This place is just awesome! The best of the best for service and the food is phenomenal. This place isn’t just bar food it’s a full on restaurant with some of the best food in PA! Staff is excellent.

As the name implies, this place is great for roast beef. You can get your typical finger food here. The bar is nice, feels like a neighborhood bar/restaurant. I hope it stays that way and not become a trendy place.

Nick’s is small joint but you will get the juiciest most delicious roast beef sandwich in Philly. The owners served us and were extremely friendly.

I came in for lunch while visiting Philly looking for a nice local place to grab a bite. My server/bartender was probably one of the friendliest I've encountered and was extremely helpful with selecting local beers to try. For lunch she recommended the pork Reuben which was absolutely delicious. I will definitely come back next time in in town.

This is like taking a trip to the old Cheers bar, lots of locals, banter, laughs. $2 Yuengling drafts really sweetens the deal! Joey and Nicole have really created a great atmosphere for that 5 o'clock thirst. We were in town and went 3 nights in a row. Unfortunately we weren't able to eat there, but I hear the beef is excellent. Thumbs up! oh, did I mention the great gals behind the bar? Guys, too

The staff at this place is really unbelievably friendly. You feel like it's a little corner bar, but they have a lot of seating in the back restaurant area. Drinks are really the lowest prices you will see and they have a very good beer selection. I would try to the bacon burger if that's your thing (they grind the bacon right into the burger). You have to try it to understand -- very good. Loved the fried pickles and stuffed long hots. Would definitely recommend this for regular people who want regular food at suburb prices.

Nick's is one of the few remaining bar that reminds you of the old time neighborhood bar before it tried to become yuppy. The service is great, friendly staff. Bartender is more than accomodating. The price of food is very reasonable. Obviously, the roast beef is the popular choice but also go for the fried shrimp. Seems to be a popular dish too.

This place's name doesn't do it justice, so I'd like to start by clearing something up first- This place isn't just a greasy sandwich shop, it's a small neighborhood bar. This isn't a fancy place, but the service is always excellent, and the roast beef is fantastic!! Sometimes I'll go in here just to grab a quick roast beef sandwich even if I'm not hungry, just because it's so good!! I keep saying I'm going to try their pork as well, but I just can't resist their beef!! The service here is unique, in that the bartenders are actually enthusiastic, and very accommodating. I was just here with a group of 5 guys on a busy Saturday night, and they provided us with excellent service at the bar. Even when certain annoying bar-group-type things occurred, such as 3 of my guys declining to order food, then one by one starting to ask for food, or when someone declined another drink, just to ask for another drink as soon as the bartender got back with someone else's drink, and things like this, the bartenders were still super-friendly, and got us everything we needed. At present, they have Saturday night Karaoke, and the setting is quite laid back, and casual, so anyone can sing and have a good time!! If you're looking for a casual place to have an excellent roast beef sandwich, and some drinks, I highly recommend Nick's in Old City!! The prices aren't bad, either!!

This review is about the smoked wings they serve at Nick's on 2nd street. Not sure what they are called on the menu, but I order the dry rub smoked wings, hot sauce on the side, and they are great. The large order to go gives me two meals worth. Have them virtually once every week.

Almost everything is fried - menu more like a lunch menu or late evening snack.

Chicken cutlet italiano sub is very good, toasted soft hoagie roll and a breaded chicken cutlet. It comes w/cheese & greens (spinach I think), and optional hot peppers & horseradish. Fries are "fresh cut" style, cooked well, crispy & yummy. Joe the bartender was very nice.

Wanted a nice casual kind of romantic casual meal before going to the Arden to see A Little Night Music. Thursday night the bar was packed with old beer slugging gezzers, so we sat in the back, no frills is an understatement. Prompt, courteous service. I had to try their 'famous roast beef" - it was not bad, good portion, but my side of onion rings was greasy. A ok joint for a brew and beef at the bar with the guys, not a couples place, also not a place for onion rings.

The only thing I'm not happy about, was the fact that I want to eat like 10 roast beef sandwiches, but cant. The.meat was soooooo juicy. (I usually don't eat meat, but this was to much to let pass by) the Bartender was super attentive and the food was super... I'm sad I can't have another one... like RIGHT NOW!!!!

I came in for a meal and was pointed to the back. You walk thru a crowded bar to a small informal dining room. Nice servers, nothing fancy here. I ordered a great meatball sandwich and a beer. The meal was great. Cheap eats and walk from the Wyndham. I liked this place, came back the next day, but it was closed. All the food looked great.

Stop in here once in awhile and the food is great and very good selection. Best thing is the service though and ridiculous prices. They have like 2-3 dollar beer and the Philly special: pbr and a shot of beam for 5. Great place for lunch while seeing the sites. Highly recommended for comfortable atmosphere and food. No frills and easy on the wallet!

Don't be fooled this place is fine but it's not the Nick's you want to have a Roastbeef sandwich at. You want to go to the one one south 20th street. This place I guess is using the name to get people to go there who heard of Nick's but don't know where it is. The real Nick's is an absolute must for Philly.

After 2 days of overeating, we decided not to indulge in yet another expensive, trendy meal...so we cancelled our reservation at the City Tavern and headed for Nick's (we used to live in Philly, so we knew what to expect at Nick's. The signature roast beef sandwiches were just fine..........the service was adequate....We got just what we expected..........and would certainly return.

On a visit to Philadelphia we visited Nick's. You have to walk through the bar to get to the restaurant. We tried the beef and spinach sandwich, a novel concept that didn't quite live up to expections. The cheese steak was philly average ( a little dry even with red sauce). The great suprise was the chilli, it's really good, better than good its great.Tender meat and great flavor. We came back the next day just for the chilli. Good service and beer on tap.

Good sandwich. They over cooked my appetizer. Service was average.

The bacon burger is tremendous. The bacon is grounded in with the ground beef. the burger is juicy and packed full of flavor. I had with lettuce tomato mushrooms fried onions and provolone cheese. the best burger I ever had, I ordered a second one!!!

Haven't been to this one, which is the original Nick's, but the one on 2nd Street just below Market is really good. An old-fashioned diner-type place with huge portions of juicy roast beef, heaps of mashed potatoes and gravy, and cold beer. Great service. Very low prices.

Love this place! Its a low key place, lots of locals (like myself), hard to find a not packed place in old city with the crowds like Nicks.. The beef is awesome , naturally! But the burgers with bacon inside of them is incredible. What flavor! Saw it on a local news station and how it got best of Philly, well its well deserved. Wings are great here also the Roast Pork sandwiches are great! Joey (the owner) is awesome, always has good tunes going and is just an all around cool place. Try it!

While traveling with my wife and 2 other couples that only like domestic beer, which oddly enough is hard to find in Philadelphia, we found Nicks. Old style bar, definitely nothing fancy, sat in the back where the tables were and ordered a few rounds. My wife mentioned that the food looked good being served at another table which looked like locals. Our server, didn't get his name was friendly and personable and fun to speak with. Great prices for happy hour pints. The other two couples went back the next night for dinner and I did not hear any complaints.

Great little dive bar full of character and characters. The bartender was so nice and funny. She made our guys visit fun. The wings were really good. Didn’t have the famous roast beef but we will next time!

Stopped in to try their "Best Burger in Philly" from Zagat. They deserve the award. The burger is a 35%/65% mix of bacon and beef! It's lightly packed and as juicy as you might imagine. The place is pretty dive-y but the staff couldn't be nicer or more efficient. I'm going back.

There is a place called "Nick's Cafe" that is famous for Roast Beef. This is not the same place. however, it is still a nice place located right there in the Old City, and the Roast Beef Sandwitch is very reasonable both in price and in value. There's also a nice selection of Draft beers and the service is good.

Beely up with a Beer and roast beef with Au Jus. Great spot in Old City Philly. New ownership has it together.

love the atmosphere husband watched the game in peace great food and service love it here will b back soon

After seeing all the sights, we were walking around our hotel area to try and find a local bar to have a couple drinks. So glad we stumbled across this great little bar. If you’re around, do yourself a favor and swing in for a Kenzinger.

A typical diner-like pub with seating in the back, past the bar. Huge portions of good roast beef, piles of mashed potatoes and gravy, and cold beer. Excellent friendly service. What more could you want? Oh, and it's cheap, too!

It's always a good idea to specialize in what you do well and Nick's does roast beef well. They have two locations, one in Philly and the other in Springfield in Delaware County (a suburb of Philly). Both are excellent as long as you love roast beef.
Unbelievably good food!
My husband and I were in the City running some errands on a Sunday evening and we decided to pop in to Nick's. We had never been to this location. I was undecided whether to have a burger or the roast beef. I opted for the burger. Both mine (which I prefer to have medium-rare) and my husband's (which he prefers to be well done), were both prepared perfectly. The side of fries were outstandingly delicious! What was even more surprising is when we received the check. We both agreed that the price was extremely fair. Since we were there on a Sunday evening, which is apparently a slower time, the bartender served us. He was not only informative but also extremely pleasant and attentive (especially he had a pretty busy bar crowd). It appeared that they did not have regular table service on Sunday evenings, which was no issue since we sat at a small table in front of the window. We will absolutely be heading back here to sample other items on the menu!
