A delicious lunch in a beautiful setting with a great view of Downtown Austin.

By Steve C |

So my Belgian-American foodie friend and I decided to have a late lunch at Nido at the Loren Hotel on a recent afternoon. After leaving the car with the valet for restaurant validated parking, we were greeted by two helpful hotel employees who guided us to the dedicated elevator to the restaurant which makes up the 8th floor (rooftop) of the Loren Hotel building. The hotel is parallel to, and just across W. Riverside Dr. at So. Lamar just across the street from Lady Bird Lake and the downtown Austin skyline, which you can view as you ride up in the glass elevator. Upon exiting into the restaurant we were welcomed by the hostess who seated us at our table with an outstanding view of Downtown Austin. On the way to the table we passed the beautifully and comfortably furnished bar area and also the outside drinking and dining lanai that ran the length of the restaurant. After settling in we started reviewing the cocktail, lunch and wine menus and found all three to be a promising start to our meal. The wine list was not extensive but was well curated with, among others, an excellent group of red burgundies to choose from at decent prices for the Austin market. The lunch menu was also well conceived with excellent appetizer and entree dishes to chose from across a variety of fish, chicken, lamb and beef offerings, at a range of price points; local lettuce salad for something light and steak frites for a more serious meal. Some of the specialty cocktails were made with some unique ingredients that we asked our server about. While she knew some of the answers, she brought the bartender to our table to help us decide on our drinks. For our appetizers we each had the blue fin tuna sashimi crudo which were fresh, delicious and well presented. For entrees, my friend had the chicken Milanese salad and I had the blue crab roll with frites. These were also appealing and delicious. As happens sometimes, the entrees arrived within a few minutes of the appetizers, making the meal feel rushed; a problem that can be resolved with better communication between the front of house and the kitchen. My friend who is a serious frites critic said these were the best he has eaten in Austin in several years, and that includes all of the higher rated restaurants in town. I agree. Pressing on, for dessert he had an affogato with house made vanilla gelato, which he said was delicious, and I had the ganache. The ganache was intensely chocolate. However, the presentation was a little weird. I think it was supposed to be one of those deconstructed desserts which can be fun. But this one resulted in a glob of dark chocolate sauce that looked at first like it had olive oil under it, but on closer examination I think it had just been heated in such a manner that some of the oil in the chocolate separated from the chocolate itself. Presentation aside, it was still tasty. Overall the service was excellent especially since they just opened in October, 2022. Our server was new but very attentive and did whatever she could to answer our menu questions. Now that we have tried lunch at Nido, we intend to go back at night, have a cocktail on the lanai first, then dine while enjoying the Austin skyline all lit up. If you really want to enjoy a great view of downtown while you are dining and drinking, this is the place to go in Austin. Bon Appetit!

Beautiful views, fantastic food

I stumbled on this little gem with a friend, and I am so glad I did. Fantastic views of Town Lake and the Austin skyline, gorgeous bar, and hip decor. The food was fantastic-the oysters with caviar are a must, the agnolotti was cooked perfectly and the lamb ragu was so savory. Our server, Dakota, was sweet and took very good care of us-she made the experience so much better with her effort. Can't wait to go back again

Great for breakfast lunch or dinner

I have been a patron of Nido since it opened and it never disappoints. Rhett, Diane, and Dakota always take great care of my guest and I. They keep the menu fresh with seasonal ingredients. Try the oysters and what ever you do don’t pass on the octopus or the scallops. There is something on the menu for everyone. See y’all soon

Ladies Brunch

By Renee Marie |

I took a girlfriend here after reading incredible reviews of the place. I would have to say this is the best brunch spot in all of Austin simply for the views and atmosphere. We loved that there was complimentary valet for dining patrons. You take the elevator through the beautiful lobby and it comes out right in the dining room. We sat on the patio and, although it was quite warm, the cocktails were crisp and refreshing. It was such a refined, relaxing brunch overlooking the city. I can't wait to go back the next time I visit Austin.

Nido with server Rhett is the best <3

Nido is the best spot ever! The view overlooking lady bird is stunning and the food is delicious. My server Rhett was fantastic. The service was quick and he consistently checked on me for anything I may need. I highly recommend this restaurant and for any occasion.

Love breakfast at the Nido. Sebastian is the BEST! Evening drinks at the Nido bar affords one the best view of the Austin skyline on top of outstanding drinks and service. Always on our list when visiting Austin.

Unexpectedly bad

We were out for a dinner before a show and they started to run a vacuum, not just to clean a sport but to clean half the restaurant and right next to us. The first couple d was ok but our experience was very poor.

Disappointing

By RWG2020 |

The food at Nido was bland and uninspired. We’d never order the cooked artichoke leaves again, they were awful. The salmon and Pappardelle were disappointing. The restaurant was very noisy and packed so we had yell at each other. The service was good, but not outstanding.

Beautiful view

Met family for brunch on Christmas Day. The staff is great. Our waiter was one I met on a stay in November. didn't get his name but he moved to Austin from Indiana. I thought he was such a positive and competent server. He is someone I lwill look forward to seeing on my next brunch! The food was good and the view is lovely. We tried to have dinner at the Nido another night during my visit but the menu for dinner was not great. I think that a basic filet, sirloin or some comfort food would be good additions. I had other family staying at the hotel with a 17 year old. I was told that the room service menu was like the one in the restaurant and there was nothing basic for room service. They ordered from a local restaurant for delivery to the hotel 2 nights during their stay instead of eating hotel food. Maybe "specials" could be added to the daily choices in the restaurant that were more basic.

Nido at Loren Hotel at Lady Bird Lake - Austin

From the moment that we arrived we were all treated so special, and there was such an attention to every detail. Everyone in the party of 4 could not stop complementing their every dish we enjoyed. The server Nick and the manager Nick both took amazing care of us. The design and decor complement one of the very best views of downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake. The chefs blew us away with the creative dishes, visually, flavors, and taste. This is a must visit for a casual cocktail and bite, or a full on sit down lunch or dinner. Nido is located in the Loren Hotel on Lady Bird Lake.

8th Floor and Outside

By James B |

In order to celebrate, I went here for breakfast. The restaurant is inside a hotel. Therefore, you must pay for parking which is about $6. The restaurant is on the 8th floor with a wonderful overlook. You have the option of sitting inside or out, so I recommend getting a reservation. The food is tantalizing but the ambiance is worth a visit.

Nice rooftop views

So we made a reservation for 5:30 PM on a Thursday and sat inside at one of the couches in the bar right along the window and it was a great view. Our server was not very attentive. I had to ask other employees a couple different times to bring us water refills, and a refill of my Diet Coke, but the food was awesome. I had the braised short ribs, and my husband had the lobster. We also had some wine and cocktails. For dessert we had the dark chocolate torte which was awesome and the perfect amount.

Our Valentines dinner was wonderful at Nido.

We enjoyed every part of our evening at Nidos. The venue, bar, menu, service, food and views were all outstanding. It was expensive but what we got was easily worth it. We will return.

Excellent food, extremely poor service!.

By Alejandra F |

Had brunch at Restaurant Nido at The Loren. The views were great and the food was excellent, but the service was very disappointing. Rafael N., our server, had a consistently poor attitude—he was rude and made us feel as though he was doing us a favor by serving us. We were there to enjoy our meal and have a good time, but his behavior ruined the experience. From rushing us through the meal to his body language and overall unfriendly demeanor, the service fell far below expectations. The hotel should seriously reconsider his role, as employees with this attitude do not belong in hospitality and ultimately diminish the beauty of the property and the quality of the food.

Incredible spot!

By Nickey D |

BOOOOOOM! The food was incredible and the view from outside dinning was a 10!!! One of the best city views in Austin TX. We had the Murder Oysters, Divers Scallops, Duck Breast, Ora King Salmon, Beef Short Rib and the Octopus Carpaccio. The food was fantastic. Cruz greeted me at the door and gave me excellent customer service. Our servers name was Dakota and she rocked it. Nick the bar back and Brian the food runner were on it and knowledgeable. This is a Nickey Duke must dine.....5 stars baby ❤️ much love, @Nickeyduke
