Dinner...unsure if underwhelmed

By Ozzie2220 |

So the problem with restaurants that have fabulous reviews is that have to meet expectations. Surprising you is even harder than if you were to stumble upon a great find. My husband and I walked by last night at 930pm and there must have been 20 people waiting to get in. Looked up the reviews and thought let’s give it a go. We had a spice pork appetizer which just about blew the skin off my eyelids after I made the mistake of touching my eye. My husband absolutely loved it. To be fair the waiter reminded us it was spicy. We also had pad Thai (god but could have been better), and the legendary chicken (which is legendary for a reason...yummmmm). The wines were on the pricy side (nothing if I remember less than $ 13 and most $15-18 a glass) which I think is a bit expensive for a place with plastic table cloths. But the wine I had was good. Great food. Different Thai from what we have had before so obsiously a chef who loves their job. But it was soooo noisy we couldn’t really hear each other (then we noticed the crowd was 18-25 and we are late 40s) and the wait staff tried a bit but looked tired and underwhelmed by their jobs. Perhaps some of the creativity in the kitchen needs to come to the front of the house? Just for the food we would go back. If for the experience or a night out to enjoy each other’s company we might pick the other even more highly ranked Thai place just up the street.

Totally Different -- Unique and Spicy(!) Menu

By Ron R |

I have eaten a of Thai food over the years, but I have never seen a menu like this -- bold, creative, inspired, really, really spicy, and refreshing tastes all at once. My son and I were there on a Monday evening and the place was packed -- waiting list and we could barely move. Tables are close together and it is noisy -- not the place to go for a quiet or a private conversation -- but it is a must visit to experience a totally new food experience.

real Thai

There was nothing on the menu that I had ever seen in any Thai restaurant, and it was all terrific. Very authentic. Very noisy. Fun with a group so you can try many dishes...just be adventurous! Waiters are very helpful.

Hip Thai Restaurant in Silverlake

By Joe G |

We were staying in Silverlake during a recent visit to Los Angeles, and wanted to try some of the great Thai we heard the city had to offer. While we didn't get to Thai Town, we were close enough to walk to Night Market Song. Coming from NYC (more specifically Queens) we have some very authentic, very delicious Thai, but Night Market had more of that street food vibe, which we don't have a lot of in NY. We had a smattering of plates, but the thing which I'm still craving is the Crispy Fried Rice. It was light, crispy, and so damn tasteeee. Among the other dishes we had was the "Bangkok mall pasta" - also very good, with some nice spice, and a corn on the cob that left our fingers highlighter yellow. Night Market Song excels in brining authentic Thai to a very hip neighborhood. Because of that the prices are a bit higher, and the waits are longer, but the food is excellent. While you could probably travel to other places in the city for just as good, maybe better Thai food, for a night out in Silverlake, Night Market Song was superb!

tasty hipster Thai

By heyU7 |

My wife and I ate here with friends while in LA for a couple of days. Our friends are pretty reliable local guides to out of the way spots for good food and this choice did not disappoint. It is a busy little storefront in the busy little neighborhood of Silverlake. It attracts a mostly young hipster crowd (we are neither, sad to say...). If you do not have lucky timing, you will wait, but they seem to push 'em through pretty efficiently. It was more than a week ago that we went do I do not remember all that we ate, except to say that is was all pretty darned good. Some to the dishes were unusual surprises and others represented the usual suspects from a Thai kitchen. I think the menu stated that the young chef was the choice of Best New Chef from Food and Wine Mag but I can't be sure I have those details right. While my wife and I liked our experience and would go back, we could not see the reasoning for that choice, if again, I am correct. Anyway, good food, lively vibe in a simple storefront surround; pretty good value.

Nice but might be a tad overhyped by now

By yan ting y |

This is nice Thai food, with a twist combining western ingredients with basic Thai. It’s good, the plates I got were a bit on the greasy side, but tasted good. Extremely busy, buzzling, ‘drinking’ atmosphere. Great for an evening out with friends. Very crowded in a loud environment.

Parking is a nightmare.

By Moonlight |

Meet friends there at 12:30pm for lunch. No parking can be found anywhere. Took 20 minutes circling around to find street parking. Small restaurant packed with patrons was a good sign. Ordered its signature dishes: pork toro, khao soi with short-ribs, crispy rice salad (larb), chicken sandwich, and boxing chicken. Flavor is rich and intense, but everything was overly salty.

Great Thai

I went to the second outpost of this restaurant in Silver Lake. Great atmosphere and service. Colourful restaurant with a great Thai menu. I totally recommend the Party Wings. Delicious!

Quick and Easy Thai

By oldpirate2016 |

A great pop-in, pop-out night. Quick and easy seating and immediate service. Family style noodles, fried chicken and Coconut soup filled the three of us with leftovers for the next day. Friendly servers and contemporary atmosphere. The music was a bit loud but not enough for us to raise our hand. Slip in here for great food.

Fantastic food but grumpy staff

By EvitaKnits |

We had some of the best Thai food I’ve ever tasted, albeit a bit spicy for my taste. But it was so good so I carried on eating and endured the burn. It’s a bit cramped and loud but the buzzing atmosphere makes up for that. The only thing that detracted from our experience is the attitude of many of the waiters and waitresses. They sort of acted as though you were inconveniencing them by just being there. Not very friendly and they were doing you a favour, letting you eat there. The lady in the blue dress without an apron on (perhaps the manager) was lovely by contrast.

Unexpected surprise!

By tiamc |

We were in the queue at 5 pm to get into this place; could not believe how many other people were waiting too at such an early time! Once seated, the service was quick and efficient and the food was wonderful, simply wonderful! Definitely worth a visit.

Lunch with Nick

A really nice Thai Resturant, small and intimate. A nice selection of dishes that you don't normally find. They have wine, beer, and soft drinks. Staff is very helpful. A young hip place to enjoy a meal.

Spicy Thai In Silverlake

By bccrab |

This place draws a crowd for good reason. An extensive menu and lots of nightly specials that are unusual and delicious. We tried 4 dishes and all were excellent. You must like heat to eat here. Dishes come very spicy and the flavors are amazing. Try the baby octopus and the off-menu fried chicken sandwch. Hip setting, very small unpretentious and inexpensive Thai food with a bit of fusion thrown in. Great place for a bite.

More Please!

By Lee L |

Three delicious items you must order for sure 1) party wings 2) crispy rice salad 3) fried chicken sandwich(it's not in the dinner menu but you can still order.) Others items that we ordered and were good were the Bangkok mall pasta, pad Thai and calamari. 30 minute wait flew by as they accommodated us by serving delectable shrimp chips while we waited and washed them down with a tasty Thai beer. Docked them one point for bad service. Not worth discussing but worth the dock.

Really great food

By Eringpdx |

We waited an hour for a table on a Friday night. It was totally worth it and I hate waiting. The massaman curry and Bangkok mall pasta we're our favorites. The staff and hostess we're lovely.

Some like it TOO HOT

By drmojo48 |

Ate there Saturday in Oct. First dish pork salad spicy hot but tolerable. Duck roll had jalapena w. seeds left in.... a killer. Soup is chock full of red pepper and the crispy fish had an even hotter sauce. If you go be sure to enjoy very, very spicy hot foods and request that they do not serve every course at once. They were nice enough to slow down service when requested and due to the overly spiced dishes they credited what we could not eat. Just be aware of the heat before you order and tone it down if you need to.

Don't miss this place!

By LPinAZ |

Cannot even begin to describe how delicious the food is at this place! It is so fresh and spiced perfectly! My favorite Thai ever!

Shame they take advantage of tourists

By Josh O |

I have to say, i'm really disappointed. I was ripped off. $26 for two bottled beers. Having looked at the menu I was sobered to see I was taken advantage of and charged substantially more than what was listed on the online menu. Food was fine.

Reminders of Thai street food

By Stealthcritic |

Our first dinner while visiting LA was Night +Market, and it lived up to the hype. We got there 5ish, there was a small wait for a table. I felt transported to the streets of Thailand. Our first course was the moo yang nom khon a surprisingly tasty pork pork shoulder. We also had the fried chicken which was exceptional. The green beans and shrimp were good but not memorable. We also had the Tom Khar Gai Hot Pot also a definate must try. The room is small quaint and always busy. Our server was pleasant and helpful. One of the highlights was the extensive well chosen wine list which complimented the food nicely.

Authentic Thai food and atmosphere

By Sightsmellsounds |

This is one Thai place that does Thai food and not some pseudo Thai/American/Chinese thrown in..the soups, noodles, and deep fried pigtail..Out of this world. In a city that is always trying to please all palettes, this low-key sunset boulevard location is a place where you can learn to appreciate the spices and aromas. If you already know and love Thai food, you won't be disappointed (correction- unless you order the satay..which is a little disappointing). The larb is good, the singha is good and the price is also very good. Service is friendly but they definitely need more wait staff because it's always very popular and a very busy place! Valet parking available or else park just self park (metered parking available).

To: Song Market, Thanks for Everything

By Raymond G |

This was my first time here. My buddy, Mark, said "I'm going to drop you off so you can put our name in." I was windering what place this was. We were in Echo Park. I mean it was Sunset Blvd., but still Echo Park. We made our way in, signed in (# in party/Name/cell phone) on the clipboard and had our first beer before we were seated. You can order a beer at the counter and drink in the makeshift lobby while you wait. We did. We got our table soon enough just as our buddy arrived. Our Orders. "Fried Chicken Sandwich. Uni + Garlic Fried Rice. Curry coconut rice. A larb, but I'm not sure which one we got." It was so good and I thought we were going to need more orders but it was perfect. The staff were so knowledgeable about what was available and what was not. We could really tell that they enjoyed the food. IF THE WAIT LIST ISNT CLEAR ENOUGH, THE FOOD IS VERY GOOD. THIS PLACE WAS LOVED. IS LOVED. AND WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED. Check it out. So good.

Phenomenal!

By mutes17 |

Some of the best (and what I'm assuming authentic) Thai food. I wished I had come with someone who wasn't vegetarian to be able to share multiple dishes! It was the first time I had sticky rice which was delicious. There is an incredibly long wait though. Pop in there and put your name on the list and then go walking up and down Sunset to kill the time. They will call you when a table is ready. It's also quite loud in there between people eating and a crowd waiting for tables.

Highly Recommended!

By twaone |

My son recommended we eat here during a recent visit to LA. He was right on the money with this recommendation. Very unassuming exterior (an interior for that matter) but the food is "wow"! Very casual and relaxed, we went for lunch. We tried three different dishes with varying textures and tastes. Everyone was very very good. Highly recommended. (This made the TOP 101 in LA list this year.)

Less than we expected

By emiravasi |

We walked in Night + Market Song with great expectations due to the good reviews we've been reading on the net. High points first. 1) Setting and atmosphere: nice and cheerfully informal. 2) Menu: focused on regional dishes, it's far away from the usual Thai menus. Low points. 1) Food: We had Khao Soi Neua from the menu (which was quite good) and Gaeng Som Goong from the specials. This last dish was highly disappointing. It was a bet on our side, I have to say (as we didn't know the dish), but the taste was quite plain. And overpriced for being basically a fish broth with few shrimps and bruised watermelon chunks. We can't recommend it I'm afraid. 2) Service: we did several trips to the U.S. and we've always appreciated the attention and the care of the staff (much better than in Europe). Not in this case though. No one checked on us, not even when we were brought the bill (which we had to request ourselves). We didn't have the chance to give our feedback on the food or on the service.

The food!!!

By Pablo V |

This restaurant delivers exactly what it sells. Quirky decoration, loud music, relaxed service. Everything intended, in my opinion, to highlight the real star of the show: the food. Bold flavors, umami everywhere and a not to shy use of spices make the food absolutely unforgettable. But be careful of you are not used to spicy food, you can struggle a bit.

Wonderful spicy Thai

By USCKaboom |

Night + Market is a great Thai spot in WeHo. The place is bustling with a huge menu. We loved it. Spicy dishes, with some non-spicy options. The staff is friendly and for a big group it was reasonably priced.

Affordable Thai in Beverly Hills!

By ynotme2 |

Affordable anything in Beverly Hills is almost an oxymoron, but Night + Market is the exception that proves the rule. The flavors ring true throughout the meal set in a casual Thai restaurant right on Sunset. Perfect for a relaxed get together with friends or a change of pace business dinner that won't break your expense account.

Very Interesting Thai

By Paul G |

Perhaps the best yellow curry I've ever had. Usually, if you go to 10 Thai restaurants and have yellow curry 10 times, it's always the same because they all tend to use the same curry paste. Not here. It's similar but it's all grown up. We also had the pig neck appetizer which was also very good, a bit chewy but it's a pig neck after all. Pad Thai was good but had no chicken or shrimp in it, because that's not how they eat it in Thailand. It may disappoint some because it hasn't been Americanized. This restaurant was just rated the 6th best in LA. Not really sure about that, in fact I'd totally disagree but it's still very good and the prices are fair. The sticky rice is great, as is the coconut rice.

Really delicous Thai

Cool restaurant with really delicious Thai food. they were really helpful about toning it down for our kids, and with wine recommendations. Waiting staff were efficient and friendly. We had a really great evening

Best Thai Food Outside of Thailand

By Jason R |

This is a Thai restaurant that serves amazingly authentic food. They serve Khao Soi! It's run by Thai people and they serve Beer Lao. Why aren't you rushing there right now? This place is that amazing!

Fun vibe but food is inconsistent

By EndlessVoyage |

This is a small cafe and not really like the night markets in Thailand or Singapore. The vibe is fun and young. The menu is eclectic. Burmese curry was nothing like anything Burmese I️ have ever tasted. The rice was not quite right. The larb gai was hard to eat with giant pieces of cabbage connected. However the green beans were very tasty and the green duck curry was fun. We all found the food unusually salty and a bit greasy. The Roti was way too greasy. As someone who is in Singapore or Thailand every year - the food doesn’t quite hit the mark.

Authentic Thai - good spice levels

By LassiComeHome |

Too many Thai restaurants lack authenticity and spice - this place is not in that category. Some really good dishes - especially the larb, and the grilled Thai sausage.Definitely a northern Thai feel to the menu. Curry also good.

A Thai gem on Sunset in Silverlake area of Los Angeles

By whatvr4 |

I just happened upon this place a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night ,driiving along Sunset Blvd in the Silverlake / Echo Park area of Los Angeles. I was stopped at a red light and looking for a place to eat. This little restaurant was busy while some others nearby were quiet. Knowing this is a good sign , i went in with my quest. I've been a few times since and although it's always busy we get seated promptly, even if squeezed in a bit. The conversation can be loud with a young mixed vibrant crowd. The service is very good , the waiters and waitresses are attentive. But it's the food that keeps me coming back now. Excellent and very reasonably priced . Beers and dinner for two with leftovers for less than $25 ,i'm lovin' it !

Exceptional Thai food. Don't sleep.

By pyramid_livin |

In a 5 day trip to LA, I ate here twice because it was so good. Really flavorful and rich Thai food, done in a non-pretentious way. The vibe here is very loose and fun. Arrive a bit earlier than your planned meal time, as you may have to put your name down on a small wait list. This was easily my favorite meal in LA, and quite possibly one of the most memorable eating experiences of my short life. Big thumbs up. Some recommends: chicken wings, crispy rice salad, coconut rice, grilled corn & pad thai.

Excellent Thai food

By Emily T |

Having gone to Thailand recently, the standards are high for Thai food and this place met expectations for a Thai restaurant in the US. We loved the quirky vibe and colorful decor that reminded us of being at a night market in Chiang Mai, and we enjoyed the Chang beer and spicy mezcal cocktails. They had a vast wine list as well though we didn't partake in that this time. My husband and I shared the chicken satay appetizer, papaya salad, and chicken Gai Pad Gaprow and ended with the mango sticky rice for dessert. The stand outs were the fresh papaya salad and the mango sticky rice. The service was great and we made a reservation for 6:30PM on a Saturday night a few days before and were seated with no wait when we arrived. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes, and it is nice because you can specify mild or spicy depending on your taste.

The best Thai food in Southern California!

By Midwest Mark |

I had the pleasure of dining here last weekend while in town for the day. I met my friends there 8pm Saturday night to a busy and excited room full of other diners. After we sat at our table, we quickly ordered some wine and beer and a few snacks to start. We ended up ordering a few more rounds of food and wine, and everything we had was delicious. I especially recommend the pork toro, crispy rice salad (Nom Khao Tod), hangar steak curry (Panang en Neua), and Larb Lanna if you're an adventurous diner like me. Their wine list is outstanding, full of wines made by small family wineries that work organically, mostly from France but also other parts of Europe and United States. If you're not familiar, just trust your server to steer you in the right direction to match the food.

Delicious, creative, unique, spicy!

By Sharon W |

Enjoyed a casual dinner here last night - very fun and unique thai dining. Rather than the usual huge plates of noodles you get at the usual place - this is more like a bunch of small plates. We had 2 of the specials - a delicious fried baby octopus and a really nice pork meatball curry, as well as the crunchy rice salad, a lamb curry with roti, and a tofu larb. We ordered everything "medium spicy" ... Now keeping in mind I am kind of a wuss... Everything came out 5 stars spicy as far as I'm concerned!!! It was tasty but spicy!!! Even for my more spice accustomed friends. We enjoyed our dinner and I would go back for sure, but order mild! :)

What went wrong?

By JJJaffe |

I had been planning for quite a while to experience the food at Night + Market. Read so many articles about the creative, authentic Thai dishes that finally Saturday night my wife and I made it. Arrived early at 5:30 P.M., were seated right away . Fun, funky atmosphere. Our waiter at first was very attentive but as time went by just disappeared. We had ordered multiple dishes to try and he forgot to order one of the main dishes. One of the special appetizers that night was fried crab wontons. OMG they reminded me of cream cheese filled wontons from another era's PU PU platter, then came the papaya salad, very boring, too sweet no balance of sweet, sour and spicy. No crunch factor. Not a good beginning. Next our curries and noodle dishes were good, complex flavors. Vegetarian Pad Thai never arrived. So, am I inclined to go back and try a second round? No. I wasn't impressed with the service or food. Their heyday is over.

Spicy!

By peter102110 |

Gosh - we really enjoyed Night + Market, but the food was so spicy! The portions were really quite large and with them being so spicy we struggled to finish them. Very friendly staff and pleasant décor, so overall a good experience.

Did not meet expectations

By ldgaff |

I was disappointed in the menu which mostly features fatty foods which do not appeal to me. The startled pig was about the only thing which sounded like my kind of food and it did turn out to be pretty good. The rice dish was also pretty good. The Thai beer was ok. It was a good experience having some Thai food but could have been better with a better selection of dishes. Price was reasonable. This is a very small place and does not take reservations so be prepared for a wait at peak times

Huge disappointment

By checkpointcheryl |

We love Thai food and eat it frequently. This was low quality and a big disappointment: greasy, flavorless, not fresh...the Thai ice tea is terrible, one so absurdly sugared that one cannot drink it. Just one of the worst Thai meals ever.

Flavors that pop

By Gina M |

Really excellent and authentic Thai dishes with incredibly friendly staff in a very busy, noisey setting. It's worth heading up to traffic ridden Sunset for the experience. Go for the food and don't expect to have meaningful conversation.

So much fun

By jpm1108 |

Such a fun place to eat! The service was excellent! Everyone working here seems to be having fun and enjoying life. It makes for a wonderful experience. Our food was delicious, although super spicy even though we ordered it as mild as they could make it. Order some rice and plenty to drink, you will need it to put out the fire.

Great place for food, drinks and friends

By FLC foodie |

Yummy drinks + tasty food + relaxed atmosphere = great place to hang out with friends on a weekend or week night.

Interesting

By allnines1414 |

I can see why people line up to go to dinner here. Some really good dishes like the Pad Thai and one other one I cannot remember. The chicken sandwich was good. Some of the sauces are very spicy and hot.

One of the best Thai Restaurants in LA

By Eric G |

This is an informal, very authentic, hipster-oriented place in Silver Lake. The food is spicy, bold, creative and very, very good. This isn't Americanized Thai food. It is the real deal.

Glad we waited

By sccrref |

Our son who lives nearby said, despite the wait we had to try this place. Was there on a recent Saturday arriving around 740-745. Long line. Parking is an issue but found street parking after driving around for 5 minutes. Waited inside and sat down just after 830 but sat at the bar. A little tight inside but had a couple glasses of wine and the time passed. Worth the wait. Food really good. Server at the bar super engaging. We were hungry and got 6-7 things but the highlight was the Fried/Crispy rice. Never had anything like that. Just amazing. Also superb were the green beans and the Pad Thai. The evening was highlighted by them comping us a desert of the mango coconut rice. Another amazing dish. Ive eaten lots of Thai food in my 60+ years and this ranks up there

Excellent food

By António VB |

Finally I find in LA a Thai that I like, the food is really good. Be careful with the dishes market spicy, we had one and it almost ruined the dinner as it’s so hot you start loosing the ability to have a taste. The place is very casual but I like that and expect big lines on weekends. Service is ok considering they have so much people to attend to and everyone is very nice. Will go back!

Best Thai

By elfox8 |

One of the best Thai, all the noodles are exceptional, the green beans in garlic are delicious and the chicken sandwich is famous for a reason. Also have a nice wine list.

Disappointing visit this time around and crazy noisy

By humdinger777 |

I go to this place with friends all the time. I lived in Thailand for four years so I can say for certainty the food in general is very authentic Thai street food. Here are my chief complaints. First, I could live without the tall skinny guy who seats people. Bad attitude and snarky. Second, there is no choice to order the food medium spicy. And why not??? I love spicy but a few times I’ve been here even my chili loving Asian friends could not eat the food, it was that spicy. So last night we asked if we could have everything medium and the answer cane NO either you eat it as it is or it’s mild. Well, ok then! So we ordered everything ‘mild’ and asked for extra chili on the side. The Tom Ka Gai soup came and it was sooooo spicy it was seriously inedible. So we sent it back and what did we get? Another soup with zero chili in it. That was not what we asked for! The soup is meant to have chili in it so why is it a choice between zero chili and inedible? Plus it’s over the top noisy impossible to have a convo there. I appreciate that the atmosphere is 100% better than any other Thai restaurant but it would be nice to be able to chat and not scream to each other rather than having to compete with the cacophony of music and other loud voices.

Greatest Food, poor service

By karenmcclu |

I can't wait to return to this restaurant. We stayed in LA for a month, and went there over and over. We asked for recommendations, and were told all was very good. We asked what was most popular, and were told all items were popular. Geez! I would avoid the sandwich highly advertised as it's just a sandwich. I loved every other item, sorry I can't recall the names. If you plan on having a beverage, it's best to order when the menu is put on the table as ordering with the food will find you sitting for a long period. We learned to order two drinks as we sat down. We're back in January and will visit regularly.

A funky Thai restaurant in LA

By Alexandra R |

Thai food is my favourite cuisine and so when it comes to trying Thai food that isn't in Thailand or at my favourite local back home (in Australia) then it is a real challenge for me to try somewhere new, especially if it is on the other side of the world! My husband and I decided to give this place a try after reading an article about the restaurant. They serve people quickly but the restaurant does fill up quick, we ate around 6pm and got a table straight away. The atmosphere is wonderful in the sense that it does replicate a funky but relaxed restaurant in Thailand. The food was very tasty!! If you like spicy food you would classify it as a moderate chilli hit, but if you're new to the chilli world, then be careful of the dishes marked spicy. I enjoyed the tofu Pad Thai and I mixed the dish with another; the Chinese broccoli which I felt balanced out the flavours (salty, spicy, sour and sweet). Great vegetarian options available too.

Great flavors

By winenutt |

The food we had was very good, but the timing of the food was a little off. Our waiter was not very attentive, and we kept having to ask for things. The restaurant was packed, and we were lucky that we had reservations. Use their valet, it is less expensive than parking in any lot on Sunset. Would recommend that you come with a hungry group, because portions are a nice size. Reservations definitely a must.

Delicious Food. Too Noisy.

By Nancy D |

Crazy busy, trendy nouvelle Thai restaurant in hip Silver Lake location. No reservations. We had our name on a list, maybe took 45 minutes to get a table. The negative is the restaurant is very loud so if you want to speak to your table mates, you will leave with a sore throat from screaming. The positives are the food was absolutely delicious and the cost more than fair. I’d eat here again, but I would need to go when, if ever, it not so crowded.

Wonderful and very spicy

By Philip S |

We were probably the only tourists in the place - it seemed like it was filled with regulars which is always a good sign. Then the food came and you can see why. It's like the food you can get in Thailand - extremely fresh and in the case of the larb appetizer, extremely spicy (which I like). But there is no code with three little chilis next to the items (and things come out when ready, not in any other order). So if you are sensitive to spicy food, ask first because the pad thai was not spicy and was also delicious. What a lovely place!

Fun, Inexpensive & Delicious

By Twins That Travel |

This restaurant came highly recommended by friends and we were glad we visited. Located in one of the more interesting parts of the city come nightfall (think glowing lights, signs and billboards) the restaurant had a kitch feel - with pink neon signs and retro Thai memorabilia. The food was incredible - please try the Pad Thai and Massaman Curry. The slightly cheaper prices were also very welcome!

Great Thai Food

By semanticvision |

This restaurant has been in my to try list for a while, finally made the journey here and I was not disappointed. The dishes are not large in size, but they packed flavors and plenty of them pack serious heat. This is spicy food enthusiast heaven. Execution is fast and the tastes from any dish are multi-layered. The wait could be long since they do not take reservations. Get there early to avoid the wait. Funky atmosphere, a bit of cheap chic, plenty of dishes to try.

Bangkok street faire

By Glenn D |

Night+Market Song Thai Los Angeles Don't let the bright orange walls deceive you as it does add color and liveliness to this already bustling and dynamic thai restaurant located in the Silverlake District of Los Angeles. The fatty pork shoulder with its sweet and tangy sauce is a great starter, nam prik gapi with salty and spicy shrimp paste dipping sauce is perfectly paired with fried eggplant. And the Pad Thai is exactly what we get on the streets of Bangkok. Song mean two in thai is this is their second restaurant in LA serving the familiar street faire of Thailand with so much flavor yet not the sweetness most Americans are familiar. Much to my liking actually. The prices are a little bit higher but not unreasonable. As one of the top 10 new restaurants by LA Magazine for 2015 the word has spread and the lines are long. But when you leave full and happy and still talk about it the day after then the experience is all worth it.

Delicious food

By Karim Maarouf |

We came here for a quick dinner. We were lucky to arrive a bit early since the place filled up and there was a long waiting list. I would recommend you reserve. The atmosphere is very casual and simple, closer to a street food place. The service was friendly and quite quick. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the padthai, and grilled octopus as an appetizier. Both were excellent.

Mostly Good

By FrequentTraveller034 |

We were welcomed by a very friendly hostess and our waiter was knowledgeable and amiable. We wanted to try their Papaya Salad and were warned that its spiciness might not be to our liking. We ordered it anyway and it was delicious, with a very tolerable punch. The Shrimp Fried Rice was just average, nothing special. The Pad Thai was excellent and one of the best I've had. The Garlic Green Beans were a real treat, fresh green beans and a super delicious garlic sauce. We did opt for dessert, although we weren't able to finish our other dishes. The Mango & Coco Rice was so-so. I'm used to a softer sticky rice here and in Bangkok, but this glob was so gelatinous that it fell below par. Prices are reasonable except for the wine that they tout everywhere on their menu: $46 for the cheapest bottle of anything and $10 for a small Singha beer. We had 4 Singhas and this added a mighty $40 to our bill! The ambiance was much too loud, with music blaring so loudly that we could barely talk to each other. The decor is kitschy with paper flowers in abundance. You must visit their quirky restroom, but take a flashlight.

Delicious and inventive Thai food

My friend and I were visiting LA for a long weekend, and we selected Night + Market for our dinner our first night in town. The restaurant is beautifully and playfully decorated, and the wait wasn't terrible (they don't take reservations, and you will have to wait) - maybe 15 minutes at 8/9 on a Friday night. You sign up on the list, walk to the bar, get enormous Thai beers, and then flip through the Night + Market cookbook while you wait for your table. The service was all right. They were busy! We decided to order mostly off the specials, so (unfortunately) I can't be really specific about what we ordered. We started with an appetizer special: fried crab wontons (blue crab meat, cream cheese, mentaiko, sweet and sour, served over cucumber salad). I've rarely found a crab rangoon I didn't like, but this one ranked high though - DELICIOUS. We then got the pork toro (grilled fatty pig neck, salty like bacon, with jaew northeastern chili dip). It was good, but too large of a portion for just the two of us! When they say fatty, they mean it! We both finished about two pieces each (and it came with like 6-8). For our entree, we shared the pastrami noodle dish (can't remember what it was called). Okay, it was DELICIOUS, but it was also one of the spiciest things I've ever eaten. If you're bringing anyone to this restaurant that doesn't like spice, I'd be very careful of what you order! I gulped down my large Thai beer and drank a bucket of water and still didn't eat that much of the noodles. It definitely had a kick, or many kicks. (They were out of the uni garlic fried rice special, sadly!) It was a fun meal and a delicious meal, and it definitely isn't your average Thai food in the U.S. I'd go back for sure! (And I might invest in their cookbook to try cooking Thai food at home!)

very intersting menu

Very popular place for young folks. Might not be the best Thai food I ever had but it will save you the trip to Thailand so give them a shot. Get there early if you want to be seated since the wait can be a while during the popular diner times.

Fake hype

We were expecting a lot more. Place is nice but you need a lot of patience to be seated and served. The wine list is good but mainly European which is kind of disappointing if you come from Europe like us. Even though the place is renowned for combining Thai food with natural wine literally nobody was drinking it which is also disappointing because there was no atmosphere except for the friendly weirdly dressed waiters. But the most disappointing thing was the Thai food. It was average with no depth of flavors nor cooking knowledge (especially for frying). It would normally be a 3 stars but because of all the crazy unmotivated propaganda around it was a delusion.

Put that salt away

Quite surprised to read the last couple of reviews complaining about queuing time and not being able to book. I booked the week before I flew to LA for an 8pm table on Saturday night. No problem. Even got there 15 minutes late and the restaurant was packed. No problem. It is quite a loud frenetic place which can seem slightly disorganized. It’s certainly a lively restaurant as the bar is actually in the Centre of the tables. Very bright walls and plastic tablecloths do give you a Bangkok Street good feel. Didn’t see any Thai people working there though. Does make it feel a bit Disney. We had 4 or 5 dishes between 2 and it all arrived at once. Not a problem apart from the Tom Yum soup which you kind of want to eat first which means the other dishes just sit there. The soup was excellent apart from the huge amount of lemon grass we had to fish out to eat it. Also they serve it in this rather silly dog hunt shaped bowl. The serving spoon is to big and you can’t tip it so it’s a real pain. The other dishes were very tasty including Penang curry and a beef dish. The food however, whilst very nice was really really salty. It was more than just a lot of fish sauce which the waitress offered up as the reason, it was really over seasoned. All that said we had a good evening and I wouldn’t hesitate returning.

Definitely more satisfied with the cousin of Venice Blvd.

The decor is equally entertaining and witty.Simple dishes like Papaya Salad are far from approved. You eat it better at any street food outlet in Bangkok, back alleys. Larb Gai approved and relatively authentic, in my world it was the wrong noodles for Khao soi jay.Pad Thai is hard to fail with and was reasonably priced. Like the investment in natural wines, though not quite easy to combine wine with Thai food.

Waited 45 mins, hostess crossed out our names, gave away our tables, couldn’t seat us

I rarely am ever this furious, but before you go to this place and support this establishment let me tell you about our experience tonight. My friends from out of town came for my wedding yesterday, and wanted as a meal before they went to try good authentic Thai food. My brother in law is Thai and told us about this awesome place, so of course, we went there. They don't take reservations, and so told us to come and waitlist. We were alright with the reasonable wait of 35-45 mins given what we'd heard about the food. Since we were told not to leave the premises for fears of losing the table, we stayed behind to make sure we wouldn't lose it. I sent some of the party out so they wouldn't block the entrance, but we were definitely there the whole time. One of the hostesses then took off our names off the list, unbeknownst to us. That isn't even the worst part, they gave away our table to the owner's good friends whom the hostess just got notice to go and seat and wouldn't be able to accommodate us any longer. No sorry it was our fault, just an oh sorry that happened. What was the worst was the lack of communication, organization, basic customer service, and willingness to make it right. Their main hostess is plain rude. She scoffed when I said that we waited 35-45 mins and to wait another 35-45 mins is a long wait. She said that's pretty good wait time in this area. On a Monday night?! When we were already there? Math is not your forte because 35+35 is equal to 65, not 35 only. When asked about take out options, we were told it would take just as long, which is ridiculous. Throughout this entire debacle, they kept seating other tables, and basically we were in the way the whole time like we'd screwed up. It was terribly embarrasing. We ended up leaving because my party was hungry and by that time, 8:30pm, loads of places are booked or might be closed. It was one of the worst possible dining experiences I've ever had in Los Angeles where the restaurant apparently has good reviews and great vibes. So disappointed, furious. That would not be the way I would run my business, and I would be ashamed of having such poor resolution for my clients. This is not an establishment that has heart for what they offer customers if they let nepotism take precedence over their other paying customers.

Best Thai I've Had!

We decided to share plates so got two apps and two main dishes, and it was a lot of food. For the apps, we had larb and "startled pig," which was spiiii-cy! For our main dishes we had pad thai (unbelieveably good) and Thai boxing chicken, which was one person's favorite. Great food! The décor was strange, but we weren't there for that.

Crazy good thai

So, the best meal I had in Thailand was from a street vendor who had set up shop outside of a hospital to feed visitors and doctors and nurses. This place had the same realness of my memories of that place. Unlike some thai, it didn't hold back on the multitude of flavors, but it did it in a really well balanced way. Not a fancy interior, and a bit bright for my taste, but it's really all about the food. Get the specialty Larb. And if you are a veg...the chinese greens.

Best Thai I've ever had!

When I go to Los Angeles I like to experience different cuisines and asked to go to a really top notch Thai restaurant. My friends suggested Night + Market based on their experience at the Sunset location. We waited only a very short time on a busy Saturday night at the Silver Lake location. It's pretty small, and crowded, but believe me...it's worth waiting for a table. We enjoyed several appetizers, including the pork toro, which is fatty pig neck (trust me...it's to die for), the party wings and fried chicken sandwich. My favorite dish was the Pad See Ew and the basic Pad Thai was the best I've ever had. Server was amazing and from Michigan, so of course, she was great! Good beer selection. I'm definitely putting this on my list for best Thai ever.
