I was craving for ramen and came across Nishiki in google and decided to give it a try! No regrets for the 30mins drive and this is by far the best bowl of ramen I had in my life. Go for the black comb for the smokey flavor! solid tonkatsu broth and hand made ramen!

I went here with friends to give it a try and to me its just average. They have fresh noodle but I just don't get their pricing. If I remember correctly, a regular bowl of ramen is about $11.00 not including extras and I think that is kind of pricey for a ramen. The place is decent and the service is fair.

Took my family to try Nishiki Ramen. The ramen offering was not your typical traditional or what we normally experienced. As we read through the menu options, there was this death challenge ramen eating challenge, smoke bomb black ramen, and Akuma to name a few. I ended up ordering the Akuma which had a kick. One of my son order the smoke bomb which was unique flavor. The Ring of Chasu was the closest to traditional ramen offering. We also ordered the Party Chicken. The Chasu - the pork belly I've got to say was great! Tender and not porky (smell), they might have tricked us by cutting it thin to enhance the tenderness. The Smoke Bomb - meh, not a repeat as the blackly-ness did not wet my appetite nor my son's. Now for the disappointment - Party Chicken. First and foremost, I had in my mind a chicken kaarage offering (which Raki Raki wins hands down!). We wanted this as an appetizer but it came last. The tender reminded me of Costco's frozen Tyson breaded chicken tender. The sauce was meh. The Party Chicken experience alone was a non starter in returning. If you want to challenge yourself with the Death offering, just go to Raki Raki or Ajisen or Tajima and empty the red chili powder and you'll likely reproduce it although they use ghost pepper. All in all, I wouldn't return to this place.

Having had ramen all over the world, my expectations were high. I visited this ramen restaurant with Japanese relatives, so i knew it had to be good :-) Ordered the spicy ramen bowl which was indeed quite spicy, but not too much. Nice varied fresh veggies and friendly fast service. One other thing i find really good about this place is that they serve vegetarian ramen too. I don't know if their stock is vegan too, but it's a nice gesture to an ever growing crowd of vegetarian foodies.

I keep coming back! Service is very friendly, warm atmosphere, and awesome food. Always hits the spot!

Our family of 5 has never been to a ramen restaurant before, so we can't compare Nishiki to others, but we all got something different and we all loved what we got. The black smoke bowl was my favorite, the sliced pork really did melt in our mouths, and we loved the roasted garlic and sliced ginger. Excellent service, delicious food.

Located near a Japanese market called Mitzuwa, so ideal place to eat when in the area. The place was packed so we had to wait a few minutes. We were seated by the large window and service was swift. We chose Soyu Ramen to compare it with the ones in Japan. The flavor was nice and the portion adequate. We were just surprised why corn was included in the soup, plus egg was extra. Anyway, it was good. Parking was inadequate.

We stopped by here with friends. The wait was long due to us having a party of 8 but worth the wait. I decided to try the smoke bomb black ramen and it was the bomb! The soup base was so flavorfull and love the marinated boiled egg. Charsui was tender and the ramen ws cooked just right. Looks like I'll be stopping by here everytime I visit San Diego.

I'm sure I need not go into raptures about how good the ramen is. Just order. You'll see for yourself!

Nishiki Ramen has opened in the same center as Santouka Ramen in the Mitsuwa Marketplace. I've been twice as ramen is a particular addiction of mine. The first time I had the Tonkotsu Ramen and the second the Tantan Ramen. The tonkotsu was everything I expected it to be, slightly salty and full of the flavor. It was the tantan that blew me away though. It was a lot spicier than most Japanese ramens tend to be, which was fine with me because I love my food spicy. I usually try to go before or after the lunch rush because parking is tough in the center at lunch and the few eating spots are all crowded. Nishiki is a great addition to the SD ramen scene.

My first experience with Ramen! I had the Smoke Bomb Black Ramen served with slow cooked egg and it was absolutely delicious! Will definitely go back to try everything else in their menu.

As i have Japanese relatives living in SD or no. I just love ramen :) And the ramen hiere is really good. Great variety in the menu and reasonably priced. I usually like the spicy kind, but check out their menu to see the different options. Vegetarian and vegan is also possbile!

We stumbled across this place while visiting San Diego over the new year's holiday. We came late on our first visit and had a blast with the place pretty much to ourselves + staff (a friendly and efficient group). Our party of 7 tried most of the ramen dishes, but also tested starters like gyoza caprese which were OK. Everyone enjoyed their choices so much we went back a few days later! It was much more crowded but the staff managed to move groups fairly quick with the communal seating and bar spots. Orders never take that much time to come out. Needless to say, Nishiki, Niwatori, and Notorious GGG (and extra slow eggs) were repeat orders. Delicious and authentic to the last slurp! Worth the wait.

Have been frequenting this place at least every 4-6 weeks for about a year. This month when we went in and the food and service were as amazing as always. The ramen is amazing, and the sauces and extras make it so easy to have exactly what you're craving that night. But, the tipping policy had changed to a mandatory 15% added to the bill, which we hate. We tip cash, 15-25%, based on the service received. I absolutely detest being required to tip cash/card. Unfortunely, this may push us to try to find a new favorite ramen house.

I ordered the Nishiki Ramen and thought the ramen was cooked perfectly but the broth was just so-so, a bit on the salty side. We had also ordered an appetizer but they didn't bring out any plates. Instead, they brought out one bowl for the 5 of us until we asked for more. Overall, not a bad place to eat but the service was a bit sketchy.

The options for vegan/vegetarian people are more than any other place. Must try!!! The service is okayish but ramen is good when you are sick and need home cooked food vibes with soul.

We had ramen for dinner at Nishiki Ramen. I had the back to basics. It was some of the best ramen I have ever had. The broth was awesome. I loved it. I finished the whole thing and that is a lot of ramen. Also the service was awesome. I can't wait to eat there again.

We got the loaded fries. They were delicious. Full of flavor and things. It was late at night and super busy for pride and my boyfriend and I don’t usually get Asian food but we loved it.

We all enjoyed the our ramen noodle selections. Rich broth. They have good combinations of ingredients in their ramen choices. We didn't have any appetizers since we weren't hungry enough, but they all looked good.

The ramen at Nishiki is so good for the soul. The noodles are made fresh. The broth is remarkable and they have the most amazing ramen eggs. I don’t like it when ramen places give you a half of an egg. At Nishiki it’s always a whole egg! The pork belly is so tender and flavorful. The decor is simple. It’s all about the food!

Excellent ramen! There is always a wait here, and most of the patrons are Asian - always a good sign!!! The tables are long and communal, with a few seats lining the window at bar-height. The servers are like busy bees, serving up steaming bowls of ramen. The menu is extensive and everything we've tried here is very good. The broth is clearly house-made and flavorful. Because it's so busy, don't expect to get long explanations of the menu choices - you're pretty much on your own. But hey - take a chance! Everything is good!

A great place to have a really nice bowl of Ramen. Not too long of a wait on a Saturday afternoon. Waitresses and hostesses were very nice and the food came out quickly. What ever the spicy sauce that they put on the gyoza was super yummy. Parking is a pain but given it's inside of a shopping center.

We wanted to see what the hype was about, but we wanted to visit during one of their "off hours" if those actually exist. The wait wasn't terrible when we arrived (just before 2 pm on a Sunday), but there was a wait. The self-check-in system is easy to manage and made making sure we were on the list a breeze. We were outside less than 10 minutes when I was texted to let us know our table was ready. "Table", in this instance, meant "seats at the bar", but starving people can't be choosy, so we went with it. It was super squished up in there - we were at the very end of the bar, pressed right up against the noodle-making-nook-window. I tend to get claustrophobic if I can't move my arms or legs, and that seat is a sure-fire candidate for claustrophobia-inducement. Our waitress wasn't the most wonderful waitress who's ever waitressed, but we didn't need her for much more than our orders. (Good thing, too, because that's all we got her for...) We had to try their most popular item, of course - the Smoke Bomb Black. My husband added the homemade hot sauce, and after tasting his broth, I wish I had, too. For as busy as they were, our food came out with a quickness. I really enjoyed the rich, fatty flavor of the broth, which paired well with the noodles and the helped take a bit of the bite off of the ginger. While I did enjoy the flavor of my soup, I regretted not adding the chili sauce to my own order; the chili added another layer of flavor and just the right amount of heat. While we were waiting, we had a chance to watch the noodle guru in his natural habitat. It was a nice distraction from the crushingly close quarters, and from my constantly rumbling stomach. We'll absolutely be back for another go at their ramen menu. Though, I really am intrigued by the Gyoza Caprese item featured under the Shared Plates section. One day, maybe.

Located right off balboa Ave in of course Kearny Mesa, this ramen spot has 2 spots in San Diego. The decor was a basic fast food place, no Japanese style type decor. Of course I ordered the takoyaki and Nishiki no.1 Smoke Bomb black ramen. The takoyaki didn't taste like the traditional way they make em, you can taste that frying oil taste. The outer pancake was really hard. You can taste the octopus but it wasn't great. Now, the ramen. The smoke bomb black ramen wasn't bad. Very rich in the Tonkotsu broth that wasn't much garlicky. The noodles were on point, good slurpability and texture. The pork strip was simple and good it wasn't as thick as other chashu goes. In all, it wasn't bad at all. Since I want to go around San Diego and find my ramen spot, I can't say this wouldn't be the one. Once ramen spots become more of a chain, especially in San Diego, it loses its overall flavor(mean everything not just the ramen). I would recommend going here if you want good simple ramen.

My friends invited me here for my birthday and I'm glad they did.. the food was delicious and the wait staff was very friendly. Each month they have a contest and my friend had one of the winning bowls with their signature logo at the bottom of the bowl, so make sure you check, she won $25 gift card. I recommended the spicy ramen with an egg.

Unless you like a long wait and a crowd, check Google Map for this restaurant's least busy time. It's worth taking a pilgrimage to this sacred ramen site, but no need to add unnecessary frustration to the menu. The noodles were the best I've ever had, as was the soup, but the atmosphere could use some improvement. That said, if it's ramen you are after, Nishiki Ramen is on par with the best in Tokyo or Yokohama. It's as though they've studied all the great ramen movies and taken all of the advice to heart. (Tampopo, Ramen Girl come to mind.) My husband -- think the "cowboy" in Tampopo -- would like to see shio and shyoyu options added to the menu, although he literally raved for months about this place before finally taking me there. Personally, I think the tonkatsu can't be beat.

Nishiki ramen is a nice ramen shop with noodles made fresh everyday. The broth was a bit salty for my taste (I prefer the broth from nearby Raki Raki) and the portion size was a little on the small side for the price, but the fresh noodles and ramen egg were fantastic and overall it was a great dining experience. The restaurant is clean, the service was friendly and fast, and there was very little wait when we went in for a Saturday lunch. The big issue I have with Nishiki is parking. Nishiki shares the parking lot with the Japanese market Mitsuwa. The individual spaces are small and the parking lot is almost always full. I know it's not their fault and it's not a big enough problem that it will keep me from going back, it's just something you should be aware of and expect when you go. All in all, Nishiki is a good ramen shop and I will definitely go again.

It was a perfect meal on a raining day! I had heard a lot of hype about Nishiki Ramen, so it was due time to check it out. I got the classic: Nishiki - A standard Tonkotsu. They encourage you to customize your ramen with levels of saltiness, levels of fattiness & hard/soft/thick noodles. I just chose thick noodles and kept everything the same as I wanted to taste their Tonkotsu as is made. It was a standard portion, with a whole slow cooked egg (many places only give you half), and nice amounts of pork belles charsu. I ordered their house made spicy sauce to add. I wish it was a bit spicier, considering they have a level 99+ Death Sauce - for those of you daring enough to try it. My brother ordered the Smoke Bomb Black ramen (touted as their #1 most popular dish). It was black from the roasted black garlic and I could smell it from my side of the table. He customized his with harder noodle, but said it was still kind of soft. My thick noodles were as expected. Both were very solid and good bowls of ramen, although we both thought that it was a bit more rich than we’re used to. I guess next time we will customize it to be less fatty. Service was good, but I feel bad that the owner automatically added a 15% gratuity to all bills (as noted on a sign placed on every table), because I believe they should have been given at least 18%. The sign also states to not leave any time since it is included in the bill. They work hard and deserve more. It was a rainy cold day and this hit the spot just right. I will be back as it was good.

I stopped at this place in search of a good bowl of ramen. This is a good bowl, not great, but a good meal. I ordered the Ring of Chashu ramen. It had a light creamy broth and as expected it had chashu laying around the lip of the bowl. It definitely filled my desire but it can't say it was the best.
Ramen making machine in store
Nishiki ramen has a ramen making machine inside the restaurant. So the noodles are all freshly made. There is plenty of parking as it is a mall. The turn over is pretty fast so there is never a long wait. The ramen is good and is a good place if you happen to be in Convey area and its super busy.
