Rude server

By KindaKath |

Over on urban spoon I'd read a review about a rude waiter from a couple years back. Our server was female. She scowled, she put her hands on her hips and lacked people skills in general. Won't be back.

Good prices, average food

By cmw133 |

We happened to pass this place at lunchtime and decided to eat. It was less expensive than many of the other places we had eaten in Portland, which was nice. The food was ok, pretty normal bar food. Not a bad spot!

Fantastic Extraordinary Cheese Burger Portland!!

By JackTrout |

I find myself at 50 becoming a connoisseur of burgers where ever I travel to in the United States. Cheese burgers and burgers are something that the USA only seems to do right. I have traveled to over 26 countries in my life and for some reason burgers taste weird in foreign countries, don't waste your time looking. In the good old United States we know burgers and getting them right is what life is all about. First the bun, the bun must be toasted, at Nob Hill they toast the bun. Next the veggie mix, lettuce must be cut and diced, Nob Hill cuts and dices their lettuce. Next the right sauce. Very important to any quality burger, Nob Hill makes their own sauce, I could tell and it is as good as it gets. The burger must be flamed broiled, Nob Hill flame broils their burgers, so you get that western covered wagon grilled taste. Lastly the server. The server was the bar tender, the guy was so nice, huge smile on his face and answered every question like he really liked his job, it was great to see and we'll be back. In fact, this was the top 3 cheese burgers in my life!! This is a huge endorsement, I have eaten over 32,000 cheese burgers in my life. (Not really but you get my point. :) If you want cheese burger and you are in Portland, this is a must try place, just to verify what I am saying here. Holy cow! My wife suggested it walking down on 23rd, "why not try this place for burgers?" I said,"alright, looks like a pub, but a real locals joint?" WTHeck!? We were so impressed, we will go there every time we come up to visit from Mt Shasta. It is great that places like this still exist this for burgers. Who ever made up this recipe, really put some love into their creation. Making the right burger is art, it's like a good pizza, it doesn't happen by accident, you have to sit and ponder and think deeply about how you would prepare this life long endeavor. The cheese burger I had was for sure one of THE best cheese burgers I have ever had in my life. My life long endeavor... Enjoy!

Homey neighborhood bar

By Debbie G |

Moved to Portland almost a year ago and we have been searching and trying out local restaurants. Nob Hill Bar and Grill has a welcoming feel to it. The guy server-bartender waited on us and had great service. We had a table in the corner with a nice view of all the street passerby's. The menu was typical but, all of your favorite eats that you would want. Home made soups and all. The food came out hot and yummy. My daughter had a chicken salad that she couldn't finish because of the generous size. I had the special which was a Rueben. It was tasty but, kinda lacked a spicy thousand island dressing. Should have ordered some brown mustard but didn't. My husband had the chili and the sliders. All in all we will defiantly be back.

Sweet Pig Sculpture Outside

Had some delicious burger food here, some fries as well. Simple and fsat, not too expensive or overcrowded. Tasted great!

Wow! Finger steaks done a different way

By Keith R |

It's hard to find finger steaks on anybody's menu, so I was overjoyed to see that Nob Hill served them. What a surprise when they arrived at the table - not the usual steak strips breaded and deep fried but small cuts of sirloin instead. They were juicy and flavorful and I could hardly eat them all. The steak fries that came with the basket were perfect - crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. If you like burned cow DO NOT miss this gem of a reasonably-priced meal. Waitstaff (one lone lady serving drinks, taking orders, delivering them and bussing tables) was very friendly.

Worst dive bar ever.

By Chad G |

First off the staff was rude, the food and cocktails were awful and the trashy girl behind the bar was making fun of someone that was special needs. I will NEVER go to this dump again and don't understand why this place is still around....I actually walked out of that place and felt dirty....never ever unless you like the smell of homeless drunks go to this dump.

Great Service!

By Gary D |

We visit Portland regularly and always go to Nobbies. The service is excellent with friendly bartenders and servers. They are hard workers and care about their customers. They have domestic and local beers and try to please everyone. They are open late for other service staff from the area and the hospital staff nearby. Food is basic but freshly prepared. Video gaming as well.

Affordable, good food, super friendly service!

By YVR19 |

The bacon and cheddar omelette and french toast were great! I was especially impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and very friendly service. If I lived in Portland I'd be a regular for sure!

Chill bar with great service

By QuietR1ot |

A few friends and I were looking for a place to have drinks and a quick bite to eat. This is a low key bar n grill with strong drinks and good food (standard american fare *we had a burger and a few chicken salads (both the grilled &crispy) all of which very good). The smokers in the group appreciated the small outdoor seating area that was available. It was nice out so we spent most of our time out front talking. The servers are friendly and they checked up on us enough to be helpful but not overly hover-y. Big props to our bartender (I think his name was Drew?), the drinks were great i.e. strong. He even concocted something special for one of our friends who isn't a big drinker. We would come here again.

Great burgers and fries...

Great burgers and fries, too smokey inside.

Best Burger for sure!!! The fries could use some help

Best food comes from a dive bar!

By Eric T |

The food was great. I had a burger and tots and they were great. The atmosphere was good and a decent beer selection. We did notice that they have $0.50 tacos on Monday after we order. The food was priced extremely well.

Awesome little gem in the heart of trendy third

By Mayes503 |

This no nonsense bar & grill has excellent food and drinks. Open at 8 am and closes at 230 am. Minors allowed until 5 pm. Locals bar. Video poker, clean bathrooms, friendly staff.

Still the best Turkey Burger in town

By JBPortlandOR |

Been going here for years. Friendly staff who have been there for a long time. Absolutely the best turkey burger in town and a good selection of beers. Onion rings are a real treat

Nice

By Shun |

Went to here with my friends on thanks giving. Berger was tasty and not expensive. I recommend fries too. Thank you for good customer service!

Great place with bad service.

By Lori D |

I have a love hate relationship with Nob Hill Grill. I love the cheap beer and I used to live blocks away so it was an incredibly convenient spot. However, The service is consistently horrible and I have been embarrassed on numerous occasions when I've brought friends there. It's a little dive in a trendy neighborhood which is unique in itself, but I have a hard time going back when the bartending staff is insulting, lazy, and just outright rude at times. If you want a cheap beer when you feel ok having a smoke outside and come greasy (but delicious) food, I definitely recommend Nob Hill, just don't expect a smile or for someone to come by your table to ask you if you want another beer.

Simple neighborhood corner bar

By Ken C |

Saturday night supper - on a drizzly cool evening. DeSchutes red to accompany jalepano poppers, and then a chili burger. Poppers were hot (temp) and well spiced. The burger took quite a while, and then was drowning in the chili, probably to hide the fact the patty had been over cooked. Chili was decent. Beer got first place in my estimation. Service was spotty and despite a fairly empty dining area, more time waiting than I'd expected. At least there's enough light to read!

Great place to relax after shopping!

By MSWood2700 |

Our group of 4 went our separate ways to shop a bit and agreed to meet up at Nob Hill Bar & Grill for drinks. We sat by the window and enjoyed people watching with a round of hot toddies to take the chill off. We were not rushed and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Waitstaff friendly. Lots of friendly locals at the bar.

Sit by the window & enjoy the little piggies!

By DesertRhayne |

I have passed this place a million times in 10 years and a passerby recommended it for breakfast. If I ever see that passerby again I will make sure to give him the world's biggest hug! The pancakes were so light and fluffy, the omelet was just the right size with the freshest veggies and the atmosphere was a good example of the inside of a warm and cozy Victorian home that added a restaurant. Great food, great service and nostalgic!

Just ok

By Renee F |

The service was super slow and they weren't busy. The food was ok. I ordered the special, turkey sandwich and cauliflower cheddar soup. My colleague ordered a steak sandwich and it was over cooked.

Burger and Beer? You Found the Place.

By bbaker5555 |

You go for the inexpensive, yet great food. Great service and an eclectic atmosphere makes this a Portland tradition for many local families and friends. On NW 23rd Ave, a great street for people watching and shopping.

Great morning crew!!

By Robert F |

I didnt catch the name of the dark haired gal behind the bar but she really does an OUTSTANDING job waiting tables and making people feel welcome. Good bloody Mary's too. My wife was in the hospital near there and I ate breakfast there two mornings. Really good food and atmosphere for an out of towner struggling to deal with life. Cant say enough good things about this place. If I ever get the chance I'll put it on my must do list. PEACE

Neighborhood Bar and Grill

By Mike McKenzie |

This is a good example of a Portland neighborhood bar and grill. They usually have a daily special, like a burger and fries for like $10. Expect a big, sloppy tasty meal. The Cobb salad is my stand-by order. Inside you will find sports on the television and a comfortable big living-room vibe. Been here many times. There’s outdoor seating on the side of the building that doubles as a very pleasant impromptu smoking area.

Burger or Salad? Hard to Tell for $31

By The Hospitality Snob |

I believe even a burger deserves respect. So, imagine my shock when I wandered into the neighborhood bar and grill and found myself staring at a burger that must’ve been designed by an overzealous produce enthusiast. The patty? Oh, it was there—barely—looking like it had lost a fight with the grill. For $31 (yes, $31!) for a burger and a beer, I expected something more… substantial. The staff was delightful, but no amount of politeness can turn a lettuce-and-tomato sandwich into a proper burger. Next time, I’ll save my money for a burger that understands the assignment—or at least hire a search party to help me find the patty.

Beer & a Burger

Looking for a quick bite in unknown territory & stumbled into Nob Hill Grill. Decent bar food with some cool tunes. Did the trick

A pint and video poker to relax

By RSNN |

I stopped by here after a trip to Cinema 21. I ordered a pint of coors lite and walked into the video poker area to play a little video poker. Then sat at a table and relaxed listening to the music playing: Tom Petty was one song. And 'Free Bird" was another classic rock song I heard while I sat there. There was an odd manikin with a werewolf mask on near my table. Other than that it is a nice cosy place to just kick back and have a nice soothing drink or catch a bite to eat.

GREAT FOOD, SERVICE SLOW

By Linda G |

A friend and I went here for dinner. I ordered the chicken club sandwich with tater tots. It was the special and was really reasonably priced. My friend ordered a hamburger and fries. They were both delicious. The only draw back was the service. There was only one lady who was the waitress and bartender. We had to wait about 15 minutes to order. Because she was the bartender, paying took another 15 minutes while she made a drink, took an order and rang up another check before us. Then she had to total our bill because she had not done it yet.

Great Experience

By Shatteredvisage |

We were staying nearby while visiting Portland and this quickly became our local for drinks, dinner and breakfast. It is very unpretentious, the food is simple, good and inexpensive. The bartenders mix a very nice martini. Service was always friendly and prompt. The crowd was local and welcoming.

Just ok

By Kerry M |

We stopped for lunch. Everything was sort of meh. The server was great and friendly. Super weird bathroom, with a stall that doesn't lock and a door that latches with a hook and eye so people are trying to come up on you as you use the toilet. Wouldn't go back.

The best burger I had in Portland

By Patricia C |

I was dying for a good burger, then friends took me to Nob Hill. Well, they were right. It was the best burger I had in Portland. They have good beer, also. The restaurant is located in a very nice area.

yummy and fun

masked up we wanted to return to nob hill indoors for dinner after some friends got off work at good sam hosp.....i had a pbr, our friends had a porter, another an ipa, and one more a root beer....next, i had the gardenburger, sub salad, and my partner had the taco salad....our friends had the fish/chips too...the bartender/staffperson was alone and it was busy....he was most efficient, funny, and friendly....we love coming back to this place, and the food/drink was good...be sure to tip big during these challenging times! thx so much!

Great food, a break from the hustle of the streets, great prices.

By Stellpflugk |

We were staying in the Air Bnb on the same corner as this nice little place. We found this place on our first night and the food was great, servers are friendly and it's a very casual atmosphere.

Portland neighborhood place!

By AZ_Margie |

The beer is cold, the food is great, the staff is friendly. Great place to absorb the neighborhoods that make Portland famous. Try it!

Can't go wrong.

By trustthistraveler |

If you're looking for that friendly little place in the big city, this may be it. Value priced drinks and food and great local atmosphere. No pretensions. It is what it looks like. It looks like home and it will feel like it too. Good food to go with the great drinks (freehand pour) and servers who care. My kind of place for a relaxing night to kick back and enjoy!

Local gem

By John M |

Yummy bar food, and the cajun fries are awesome. This bar is very casual and no need to dress up. Its a good time.

Great burgers and fantastic service

By SuzyG |

Big juicy burgers. Lovely craft beers and wine on tap. Place doesn't look much, bit dated but don't let that put you off. Service great. Will return

Great for a lazy Sunday lunch

By Sailing_Sweetie |

Yummmm....Bloody Mary and clam strips and chips. Clams not over cooked and fries are crispy. Good bar food. Service is fast and friendly.

Excellent for sure for what it is

By TONY G R |

This place has been here for ever and for a reason, it feels like that old tavern most of us like to go, have a few and get some thing to eat. It's cheap, fun and a great place to hang out and watch the mix of people who come in and out. My wife and I hit this place a few times a month, the staff is fun and at times the best part of the show. Let your hair down and enjoy

Dine with the locals

By 507adventurelover |

Building exterior rather plane, but service and interior ambiance good. Food was excellent, fries home made.

Good Candidate for Great Food under $9

By Cindy F |

Can't believe how many times we've passed by and not stopped in...what a mistake not stopping. This place has a nice character, great music, quick service and delivery, friendly and helpful staff, the cook in the kitchen knows what it's all about, good selection of beer and makes a good tequila sunrise. Cheeseburger is good sized, flavorful, toasted bun, just the right amount of crisp on the burger, special sauce is tasty. Fries are done perfect, generous portion - enough for two. Road Kill was a great surprise in that it's open-face with plenty of chili and lots of white onion chunks that you can eat all of or not. The burger was cooked just right with a little crisp all around. Only wish the chili wasn't so tomato based - not my favorite. This Nob Hill area is a comfortable neighborhood to walk and browse with many food choices, even if you have to park a few blocks away, it's worth the walk.

Best Drinks & Burgers in Portland!

By Linda Donewald |

This is one of my favorite pubs/restaurants in Portland, OR! Nob Hill (or Nobbie's as called by the locals), is a great place where everyone knows your name - very friendly, great service and their food is excellent! I've been to Nobbie's a few times with friends and family, always enjoying the experience. Their bartenders make the best drinks in all of Portland, perfect drinks every single time. Their menu has something for everyone, but I highly recommend their burgers and sliders. One of the best cooks in town! Nestled on the corner of 23rd Ave and Lovejoy, close to shopping and other services, you'll enjoy the very-friendly staff and service. You feel very welcome at this establishment, even if you're from out of town.

Bad service, awful waitress

By Alisoniponi |

We turned up here for brunch one morning. I ordered 2 eggs and toast, my husband ordered the breakfast burrito. However, they had run out of wraps. Instead of telling us this and giving my husband the chance to order something different, we were just left sitting there. Over half an hour later (I was really hungry by this point) I went up to the chef's window and plaintively looked through. The horrible waitress pounced on me wanting to know what I was doing - no, she couldn't hurry our food along, no, she had no idea what was going on, blah blah blah. I asked if we could have more coffee (she hadn't come back to offer refills). She came back over with coffee and subjected us to a simply bizarre harangue about how she had nothing to do with what happened in the kitchen and that out food would coming at some point. With hindsight we should have just walked out at this point and gone somewhere else - I mean, whatever happened to presenting a united face and working as a team!? Anyway, our so-so food did eventually arrive, probably about 50 minutes after we ordered it. Bear in mind we are talking scrambled eggs, toast, a shop-bought wrap with eggs and stuff in here. The weirdo waitress ranted about the kitchen again and told us she was going to take the cost of the coffee off our check. Well wow. We ate here on Sunday 16th August. If the owner or manager reads this review, he should check who was serving that morning and fire her, she really was that awful.

fun

Go anywhere else

By Al H |

Food was hot once but by the time it arrived at the table it was shivering. Our party of eight sat for fifteen minutes with seven empty glasses. This server clearly didn't give a damn. Next month we will go elsewhere.

Comfy Neighborhood Bar

Stopped in for a quick burger. Small bar, but friendly staff and excellent hamburger. Also enjoyed some local brews. Nice for a quick casual meal.

Old school NW burger joint

By Khahn H |

It's nice that there's still one of NW Portland's oldest restaurants still in operation. great Burgers, no fluff just good food for a great price

Love the steak fries

By clntr2006 |

I work close to Nob Hill Bar & Grill it's a good place to go for lunch. They are friendly, locally owned and have good food. Usually there is a special of the day for lunch that is reasonably priced. I enjoy the Nurse Kellie it's a nice alternative to a burger, grilled chicken, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, pickles, onions and lettuce, it is delicious, order it your way they don't mind. Their soups and chili are made in house and are very good too. It's a quaint local bar that is an icon on 23rd.

Great Neighborhood Bar

By lindsaylittlejohn |

Nob Hill is a friendly neighborhood bar and a great place to grab a bite to eat. My burger was properly prepared and I was even surprised to find a little pink on the inside of my patty. It was served with an overwhelming amount of tatter tots (I could only eat half of them). My waitress was friendly and helpful - check it out.

fun neighborhood bar

By Teresa M |

we periodically eat here with former co-workers after work. i began with a pint of pbr, and my partner had a maker's mark with coke. hit the spot....next i had the veggie burger on wheat with a mixed salad...my partner had a sam burger with veggie patty and ham. both were delcious. the server was very friendly working alone, despite being swamped, and was efficient too. we were joined by 2 friends who were happy with their beer and meal. nice neighborhood spot.

AWESOME FOOD

By Jill N |

My girlfriends and I ate lunch here. Two of us had the fish which was amazing. Lightly breaded, seasoned perfectly, moist and crispy. My other friend had the clam strips which she raved about. Very nice staff and comfortable atmosphere. I am spreading the word about this place and will definitely be going back.

Really good example of good but anything but fancy

By King A |

Just moved to Portland and live just down the street. Had not stopped during the many times we had visited Portland and stayed in NW. Needed to get a quick meal and decided to take a chance and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered a burger and a kielbasa chili dog and both were good. Have been back 2 more times and have continued to find the same good food with fast service. Bartender also waits tables and I think they try to be social but they have a lot on their plate. This is a bar in an area known for upscale dining and shopping and Nob Hill doesn't fit that image so some might be disappointed or feel out of place. Personally I see it as a refreshing alternative needed in a neighborhood serving a broad community. Good simple food at very good pricing, never out of place.

Better than "just bar" food

By Angela R |

We popped into the bar after an unsuccessful venture to 2 other restaurants. We were expecting "just bar" food but this was way better than that. I had a turkey burger and it was the best I had for our whole Portland trip. My husband had ordered the fish and chips and said that they were very good.

Okay bar and grill

By David C |

This is really a bar with pretty good food. The bar selection was very good and the food selection was good.

Great 'dive' bar

By TerisTravels2 |

Good bar food. very bar-like atmosphere. Service seemed above average. Don't expect much. It is good grub. Has a cast of regulars.

A local bar, decent grub, good drinks

By Henryk M |

We enjoyed decent fish and chips. The Stella Artois beer was served in a Stella glass. The pour of wine was generous. It was not expensive and the service was friendly.

Great little place

By Clayton D |

Every time I visit Portland, I eat here. Great food, drinks, beer and simple atmosphere tucked away on NW 23rd. My favorite place in Portland.

Dive bar vibe with excellent food

By JLee565 |

Nob Hill was the only place in Portland I ate in twice. On day I had an excellent cheeseburger and tater tots while watching the football game. A couple of days later I walked over and had breakfast before heading to the airport. Good food, good prices. It seems to be popular with the staff at the hospital across the street when they get off.
