We had a lovely meal here on our first night in SF. We had passed earlier in the day and thought that it would be worth checking out later! There was a queue for tables and we had quite a lengthy wait but it was well worth it. There are a few tables outside where we were able to have a drink and people watch. The time passed quickly. The atmosphere was convivial to a good night out and the food added further to our enjoyment. All seemed home cooked with passion. Thoroughly enjoyed our night.

This is a wonderful restaurant, delicious food, great service and terrific atmosphere. Nob Hill is a fabulous location to see all of San Francisco, amazing views of a beautiful city.

I think there are two different restaurants being reviewed here. Most of the remarks are about "Nob Hill Cafe" on Mason. It's very good Italian food although always crowded. I have never been to the other which is apparently in the Mark Hopkins.

The wine, pasta, pizza, bread were great. We ate early(5:00) because we were adjusting to a time zone change. As we were leaving, there were 30 people waiting for a table. A delightful find in a city with many fine dining experiances.

It is easy to pass this place by but don't. Definately a neighborhood crowd with low-key ambiance and great food and attentive staff.

We stayed on points and regular registered room, nice place, staff excellent and friendly. If you can afford it go ahead and stay there.

Met some friends from Hawaii at the Nob Hill Club for an awesome lunch. Just the feel of this location inside the Mark Hopkins Hotel was wonderful but our meals were incredible. A very classy location with sincere, warm staff members. Last time I had the breakfast buffet and it was great as well.

The Knob Hill Club located in the lobby of the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel, grandly situated at the top of Knob Hill In San Francisco is a real treat. Smartly decorated the restaurant offers a wonderful breakfast buffet that we enjoyed every morning of our three day visit. The buffet will satisfy every taste and preference. Eggs, waffles, toast, luxurious fresh fruit, fruit smoothies, cheeses, cereals, yogurts, and wonderfully fresh coffee. Espresso and cappuccino is also available. There are far too many items to list them all here. Service is outstanding and attentive. The Mark Hopkins is a business and leisure destination for an international clientele. Many countries were represented and staff accommodated many to complete satisfaction. While the price of $35.00 per person may appear to be high, it is not for San Francisco standards. It is in reality a bargain for the quality received for the price paid. The Knob Hill Club is four star winner and worthy of your patronage. Bravo.

Ate dinner here recently in October. Walked over from hotel without reservations & waited outside on their lovely patio with drinks for a table. Food was good, but they stuck us in a table by the kitchen which wasn't the best, but still had good time.

My husband and I both got the rib eye steak. We are both usually disappointed by steaks we get at restaurants because nothing beats home grilled... but the rib eyes we got while we were staying at the Mark Hopkins hotel were delicious! Perfectly seasoned, giant portion, and juicy - mine was cooked medium well and it was still very juicy! Highly recommend.

Food: We ordered the two dishes below, which were both solid. Food tasted fresh and was well-seasoned. SMOKED SALMON BAGEL ($24) Cream Cheese, Tomato, Capers, Red Onion, Arugula Salad with balsamic vinaigrette MARK'S CLASSIC BREAKFAST ($26) Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Potatoes, and Wheat Toast Service was attentive and the restaurant ambience was great in the historic Mark Hopkins hotel. Value was nowhere to be found. Our bill came out to close to $80 (including food, tax, and service charge) for two people for breakfast. We only ate here due to the complimentary breakfast welcome amenity as a Diamond Elite IHG member.

The service was friendly. Frequented by locals. Food was hot but nothing spectacular. Crowded and busy. Great location. Food was only so so. Prices went with the area.

So easy to miss as you walk across the foyer and front desk of the Mark Hopkins. So don't miss it. The food was excellent, and the waiter was very informative, but I wish he and the kitchen would have moved quicker. The overall service was terrible, the place was empty (early evening) go figure. I have to say it again, the seafood stew was great and for every other member of our family. No problem there.

This restaurant is in an elegant yet relaxing room on the first floor of the Mark Hopkins Hotel. We had a late lunch so a window table was available. This lunch special is only offered on Monday and Saturdays of Restaurant Week. Its menu offered a choice between a crab roll plate and a chicken roulade roll with cassoulet. The starter for both was a tasty salad of caramelized goat cheese with preserved pear and frisee (with delicious dressing). The dessert was a tempting Passion Fruit Mousse and Gelee. My favorite second course was the crab roll lunch which was very flavorful. (On the chicken roll menu, the cassoulet had not steeped long enough to blend as well as it could have). The atmosphere of the luncheon was so elegant that we stayed and talked longer than I expected. For public parking, the Masonic Garage is 2 blocks away. We found street parking several blocks away but enjoyed the hilly walk. We felt like we had been on vacation that afternoon.

Yes, we waited, but it was worth it. The place is small, so give them a break. And everyone on the staff was nice to us. The food is really delicious, not expensive, and the tiramisu was to die for. Highly recommend this place b/c it felt like you were in a small restaurant where each meal was special, and the staff wanted you to feel that way too.

Lost it ~~ I've been to Top of the Mark many times over the years, always with delight. This time was greeted by surly servers and rudeness. A light crowd was in the bar, but the servers didn't seem willing to make an effort to take drink or food request . . . waited nearly 20 minutes and then left. Hint . . . head for The Fairmont bar across the street. They're 'tops' though in the Lobby.

Try it, you'll love it. Decent pizza, service is spotty and there is always a 20 minute wait, but it goes faster.

This restaurant is in the Mark Hopkins Hotel on California Street. It is an upscale Hotel so it's also an upscale restaurant. Here for lunch and ordered the express steak meal for $35. This meal was served with an arugula salad, mashed potatoes with green beans, a marinated steak, and dessert. The portions were large and the food was very well prepared. My server, Migerta, was very helpful and attentive. One of the nice things about this beautiful restaurant is that it looks over California street so you can watch the cable car while you dine.

Fabulous meal, an extremely busy restaurant, comes recommended by the Stanford Court Hotel.

Great food, even better service. The breakfast buffet is excellent. Lunch and dinner menus are elegant and creative. Good selection of wine. But the wait staff was simply over the top excellent. Attentive without hovering, friendly, knowledgeable and top shelf in every way. This restaurant will exceed your expectations and is worth every penny.

Great small neighborhood restaurant specializing in Italian food. Attentive and nice wait staff, great food and charming space. Perfect on a chilly night

this is an adorable Italian café, with VERY good food. I look for vegetarian stuff and my sweetheart likes meaty stuff and we both found something to enjoy. great salad with seriously delicious balsamic vinaigrette (you can tell when you get the really good balsamic...) I had the eggplant dish on penne, scott had the sole, served quickly, hot and steamy. we sat where we could watch them cook, I liked the casual atmosphere and our friendly waitress, just a very pleasant experience all around.

We went on Sunday and there was a queue, we had to wait for an hour, was it worth it, no. It's a great neighbourhood cafe but is it exceptional no. It is Italian fare but nothing to write home about, I had the pizza, it was big so I didn't eat it all but I'm a small person so they were kind enough to box the remains which I did have the next day.

we went here one evening after reading some reviews. It was busy for sure and a few groups of people waiting outside for a table. This place is really quite small and cramped inside. we were told wait was about 20 minutes to which we agreed. We waited and waited and waited. We were pretty sure some people who may have been locals jumped the queue, definitely not waiting like us.eventually way past 20 minutes we were seated to discover the wine we chose was all gone, followed by our food choice also not available. We ended up choosing fairly unexciting pizza each and a glass of wine. We regretted waiting so long for a table as disappointed with the whole experience. We would not return again.

Love the Mark Hopkins. We were headed out and needed to grab a bite before leaving. $75 later for two sandwiches and coffees we left our great Mark Hopkins experience feeling ripped off and angry. To be fair, the coffee was good. I 'd like to send this chef to France so he can experience a Croque Monsieur - this was a dry pastrami and cheese. Skip this for lunch.

Filthy. Disgusting. Horrible service. Snotty servers. Overpriced. Other than that, everything was great.

Our second visit--pasta[linguine] with clam sauce was fair--clams tasted like they were from a can----

A great place to slip into for some great pasta and warm atmosphere on a quiet side street. Close to many hotels. Great staff and service, the carbonara was awesome.

I don't do hotel restaurants unless I am at a R&C in France. Well....we were tired and comfortable after enjoying the club rooms fine wines and appetizers and the restaurant was right there and....we asked Anna who runs this whole area for a suggestion listing what we want.."I am not trying to sell you but our restaurant has all of that I promise and in a lovely ambience". Well....she was right. So right that we dined here 2 of the 5 nights in SF. So not our style. But there is this really wonderful restaurant with casual or semi-creative more substantial dishes and appetizers and all were really swell! Our server after one night...she was amazing (Millela? Griella...Darn..she deserves a mention and I wrote her name. Anyway you'll know her when you see her. Short hair.). We requested her the second night. I love this type of service so on top of things before you even think to request and personable and yet..finds that middle ground of serving and leaving you too enjoy and talk...just great. Second night was wonderful. I recommend the chicken dish that I've forgotten the name but...they'll describe it and it is on the menu as the only chicken entree. The other night I went casual and wow...the burger with all these inventive toppings made it tops. Oh..I forgot the homemade bread..the french fries and the wonderful choices of mouth watering desserts. We will be back when at the Mark Hopkins

Usually not impressed with hotel restaurants, this one is a definite exception. Four of us dined and all of us were most impressed - maitre’d, server, wine and food were all top notch.

Excellent variety that goes far beyond a typical hotel breakfast selection. Fine cured meats, smoked seafood, asian dumplings, and traditional fare. Very thoughtful selection of breakfast items. Attentive, sophisticated waitstaff.

The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins hotel restaurant is very old and stately. The service was great and the food good. We had the carrot soup, the beet salad, and the field green salad with salmon. The carrot soup was very good, but piping hot! The salad with salmon was very good because the size of the salmon. It was much larger than expected. The only issue with the low ranking was the price. A lunch for 2 with no drinks costing over $60 is a little steep.

Small, but great food...fun staff...no reservations so time your visit...sit utside when possible since people-watching great!

One of those infuriating places which won't take reservations so you have to go there and hang around in SF's inevitably wintry conditions (no room inside). Wouldn't be a problem if the food was worth waiting for but my carbonara was watery and tasteless and the cramped conditions and smoky atmosphere made this a non-repeatable experience for me.

We ate here twice, and the line wait was worth it. Everything was delicious, and I cant wait to go again

Not a bad buffet breakfast but the rugs are disgustingly filthy!, Trying to eat with such filthy carpets around you does not make for a comforting meal.

At times, we see a hotel restaurant as a place for only hotel guests, but the Nob Hill Club, and sister space the "Top of the Mark" celebrate all that the area has to offer. Wines from Napa and Sonoma (and more), local beer, and the freshest products from area farms are celebrated in this posh, yet comfortable atmosphere. The evening I attended, included the celebration of local culinary students who had the opportunity to work alongside Executive Chef Michael Wong creating a menu that celebrated the hotel, and their talents. We dined on Tomato Soup (with fried green tomatoes); Pan Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Romanesco broccoli, celeriac puree, and Trumpet mushrooms; Citrus Rush baba cake. OMG - The dinner was paired with wines from Hall Estate in St. Helena and Groth Vineyards in Yountville. On a standard evening, the menu is full of delicious surprises and elevated standards.

excellent food! small and quaint. superb service. a must if staying in this neighborhood. wonderful wine list.

Best pizzas you can watch being made outside, small eat in area but pizza bases great light, toppings fresh and plentiful and very eaton ably priced

An Excellent Lunch on Nob Hill During an August business trip to San Francisco, I had the opportunity to have lunch at the Nob Hill Club, in the historic, and iconic Intercontinental Mark Hopkins at 999 California St, atop Nob Hill. I was staying across the street, and had only been into the Mark Hopkins once before, and then, just the evening prior. We were dining elsewhere that night, and planned to have a bit of wine, before we left our hotel. Unfortunately, we chose their “tiki bar,” which turned out to be a major mistake. With over an hour before we were be seated, we ventured to the Mark Hopkins, and had drinks at their rooftop bar. When we entered, I noticed the Nob Hill Club, and made a mental note. We found the wine list upstairs to be to our liking, so the next day, I crossed the street, and entered the hotel, via the Nob Hill Club entrance. I was warmly greeted, and shown to a spacious 4-top, in the main dining room. Now, I say “main dining room,” as the Nob Hill Club, though on one floor, and within the same space, is rather like 4 different restaurants, and I feel that at certain times of the day, it does multiple duties, for different groups. First, there is a lovely bar area, which opens up to the main dining room, where I was seated, along the windows looking down to California St. Then, there is a more casual area, which was still set up for coffee, but what I think might have been a breakfast buffet (sorry that I did not ask), and was being disassembled. Finally, and beyond both of those, there was a drawing room, reminiscent of maybe an exclusive city club, or a country mansion. More living room like, than restaurant, but close to the bar, so I can imagine that it sees a lot of traffic in the evening. At this early hour, I was the first patron for lunch, and I had my server’s undivided attention. I had both the menu, and the wine list in hand, as the sun streamed into the lovely room, from those large windows. I decided on the California Club Sandwich w/ roasted turkey breast, butter lettuce, tomato, corn cob-smoked bacon, avocado, and mayo on a toasted Chibatta roll - this turned out to be both an attractive sandwich, as well as a tasty one. It came with a bowl of fries, which were the weakest element, but adequate. The turkey breast was very moist, and had a nice smokey note, along with the excellent bacon. A wise choice. I ordered a Riesling and a Pinot Noir, from the short, but interesting wine list, and both complimented my sandwich well. Service was very attentive, and friendly, and I wanted for nothing. The tables were well-spaced, and especially with the large windows, looking down onto the California Cable Car Line, the lighting was excellent. Even when the restaurant began to fill a bit, the noise level was very low - people just spoke in hushed tones. In all, an excellent lunch, and I will return.

The Nob Hill Cafe is close to the hotel where we stayed while in San Francisco. The food was very nicely done. Loved the sour dough Italian style bread. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. She was taking care of 7 tables in our room and she went from table to table and explained dishes, described wines and kept a close eye on the levels in water glasses and whether drinks needed to be refilled. Prices are moderate. I would definitely recommend eating here.

We came in around 9 on a Sunday night and were surprised that it was full, with mostly local patrons. The service was great and food exceptional.

Not sure what is going on here but ITS NOT THE LITTLE ITALIAN RESTAURANT UP THE ROAD The club is a fee you pay at the MArk Hopkins for Breakfast all day Coffee soda and snacks and in the afternoon great snack and drinks. We found it a great addition gave you access to the breakfast buffet {which was ok} all day coffee and soda and water(water is $7 a bottle in the hotel} ND IN THE EVEING GOOD SNACKS AND UNLIMITED DRINKS(THAT YOU MAKE YOURESELF)

Had the lasagne here and it did not disappoint! The service was prompt and the food wait time was short. Great wine menu also.

Located at the lobby of the Mark Hotel ( Intercontinental), excellent service. Lovely staff. The food was delicious but unfortunately the desserts were very disappointing.

Great food, great staff and very good value for money was delicious!!

Combining this restaurant with the Club Intercontinental has degraded the Club product to a terrible experience. When I pay to get access to a Club lounge, I expect a Club lounge. Not a crowded and generally unpleasant atmosphere where quiet relaxation is impossible and Club amenities are barely given a second thought.

We spent 5 nights at the hotel, but after our first (and only) breakfast experience here, we decided to go elsewhere for breakfast. First of all, the prices were ridiculously steep, secondly - service was not that good, and most importantly - the food was bland. Such a disappointment.

Having eaten at this Nob Hill Italian gem, we were excited to try it again. We started with the Calamari cold salad. It was delicious with fresh arugula and lettuce, white beans and the calamari. I had the veal shank special and loved the polenta. My wife had the large bowl of pesto linguini. The meal was a good as we remembered. Get there early or you will be waiting outside this popular neighborhood place.

It is a small cafe but if the weather is right the seating outside is a nice option. All the dishes are delicious. A must!

The food here was authentic Italian, the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about wines ect. When dinner arrived it was amazing. We had a pizza and a pasta/chicken dish. Delicious. Quiet dinner. Reasonable price.

we had a very bad lunch here. The hotel recommended it and after reading some reviews we thought it would be a good choice. I ordered the seafood pasta and it came with canned clams. Nothing seemed home made and we ended up leaving most of our food.

again like the rest of our stay prompt and great service and the place is just great by itself with lots of character

There are precious few places to eat once you've climbed the hill! This was an amazing find, though crazy expensive. Impeccable service, met all our needs of urgency but it was the food that stood out. Our party of 5 each keeps raving about the food. Seafood soup, salad plate and toasted cheese sandwiches were the order of the day and to a plate, each was the best we've had. It's in the main floor of the Mark Hopkins just past the check in desk. (great bathrooms too!)

The dimension of Culinary skills n knowledge of SanFranciso is pretty much rely on its diversed clientele... Prerfers something lite n tasty...They got well made croissant,, yogurt, fruits.N other must have selection s ...Needs something fulfilling.. .They have Chinese steamed buns, smoked salmon with real capers (deliciouly made) cheese n more... The Atmosphere is unique n tastefully decorated... A peace n quiet setting with your beloved someone or going for a FULL monty type of brunch , then its a choice yet to be determined...

Great value for price of a full dinner, of Tom Turkey, Dressing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, and drink, $10.

So much to see. Great restaurants and tons of shopping..

If you need a quick bit on Nob Hill, this is a great place to go. It's rarely crowded, affordable and right next door to The Masonic Center. We had burgers when we went, and they were good. It's a bit overpriced and the service isn't great, but it does the job.

We always have dinner here. 20 person restaurant located in the Nob Hill Hotel. Personal service, sometimes by the owner.

A quaint little restaurant near the Fairmont. Food was terrific and the service was also great! Would definitely return!

The cleark at the hotel suggested this restaurant. It is asmall Italian restaurant in a residential neighborhood. We had to wait outside for our table. They let us order a drink and sit at a table outside, but they were not serving dinner outside. It is a traditional Italian menu. The food and service were excellent.

While staying at the Fairmont we went here, such delicious food and great value, if only we were in San Fran longer we would have eaten here again, a short walk from the hotel. It is popular for good reason!

We arrived after 2pm and decided to try the Hotel's restaurant. OMG!!! We ordered the Brioche stuffed with crab - outrageously delicious. The combination of the slightly salty crab with the sweet brioche was simply over the top. Even the Cesar Salad was also excellent teamed with their house Chardonnay was perfect.
Food Glorious Food
Nothing too much trouble, every effort is put in by the chefs and the staff are brilliant. Food excellent, very fresh produce. You will be treated like a King. Just so wonderful. We will go back. Lovely restaurant!
