It's a great place to eat

By FERNANDO A |

I love this place, for me it is a guarantee, I know it is expensive, and it can be very expensive, but I also know that the experience will be extraordinary, there is no dish that is not top quality, the service is very good, and the place is very nice

Best sashimi I've ever eaten

By Sandy K |

Wonderful fresh fish, had really great sashimi and a variety of other dishes. It was a business dinner with a pre-ordered menu, everything was really good especially the seared salmon. Service was a bit slow for drinks, it was very busy in the restaurant that night.

Top 10 Lifetime Meal

By careerman17 |

I booked a table for 7 for a business dinner. We had a drink at the bar and our table was ready right on time. Since everyone at the table was adventurous we asked our waitress to select interesting and popular items off of the menu and surprise us. We had multiple appetizers and diverse items from all over the menu. She brought us the right quantity and the timing was perfect. I highly recommend that you just allow your server to use their creativity to make the meal special. It was amazing! The cost was just over $100 per person including drinks, dinner and deserts which I though was very reasonable. I've spent much more at a steakhouse.

They “missed some points” is what the manager said

By mckenzie k |

Disappointing service and management me and my girlfriends where expecting a good resturant that was so high end to be worth our money but the service proved us wrong. Our waitress was rude and not knowledgeable about the menu and didn’t care about our table or did not want to give us recommendations. The manager even didn’t care, I do believe it’s just because we looked young, but I don’t think that’s any reason to treat paying coustemers, we wanted a experience and good food, we got some enjoyable food but the experience was horrible and not one I wish to have again.

Usual Nobu experience

By John H |

Good: good food, ambiance, friendly service Bad: parking I have been to 5 different Nobu in Us and I would rank this place number #3. The best experience for me so far in Caesar’s palace in Vegas!

Don’t drive downtown SD at night. Massive traffic

By jeffreyalan m |

Downtown SD was a complete madhouse. Could not find reasonable parking or get around because of massive traffic everywhere. Never got to the restaurant. Had to go elsewhere.

Super average

By Edmund L |

This is a departure from Nobu in TriBeCa New York or Matsuhisa in LA. It is very ordinary and the menu is equally similar. No surprises whatsoever.

Very good meal

By Japando |

The restaurant is great and the food is excellent Went for a business meeting while visiting SD and found it a little noisy to talk Believe if you just want to have a very good meal and relax it would be perfect

Not worth it

By Patrizia V |

Hostess was not welcoming. Food was bland and other dishes were ridiculously salty. I would not return. Between my experience with nobu hotel and this restaurant I will not be returning to nobu

Very nice although a little rushed

By Jeff S |

6 of us dropped in for a midweek business dinner. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. Lots of great options and advice from our lovely waitress. We did feel that we were being rushed a bit as the dishes came out immediately after each other.

I have never has Sushi and was VERY Nervous...

By Bruce S |

Sushi seems to be a very polarizing topic. I have never been a sushi eater, but was joining friends for dinner here... I committed to an open mind which was pleasantly rewarded with an outstanding culinary experience. I tried 8 or 9 different dishes with the dinner group and was amazed at how good it was.

Date night

By Steven R |

Night started off rough at the table due to the waiter not having answers for a diner with celiacs. We were going to leave but decided to go to the sushi bar after talking to the manager. Once we moved to the sushi bar it was a completely different experience. The wait staff and sushi chefs were incredible and the service and interaction could not have been better! Top kudos to Chef Marcus and the staff that service that area, they were as amazing as the food with great care and pride in what they do! The food was some of the best sushi we have ever had

By Jit V |

Great food, best service with nice atmosphere. Nice vegetarian choices too. Always enjoyed here with friends and family.

Highly recommended

By JoeyJ1203 |

Good waiting staff. Food was excellent . Highly recommend.. unfortunately in the hard rock. But we’ll worth visiting .

Fish quality is great go for happy hour

By Laura T |

We went here to celebrate our anniversary which I said in open table but they didn’t congratulate us, it doesn’t matter but some restaurants make a point to do so. The edamames and peppers were good. The cod in miso was great. The toro tartare was 40 and had so much wasabi I could barely eat it. I would definitely not get that. The quality of the fish is great, especially the Uni and salmon. It’s just so expensive. The outside set up is clean but I would just come for happy hour. The service was excellent, which is why I couldn’t rate it average.

Fabulous food - Sashimi at its finest

By Travel Therapy |

Words could do this place justice - I just love fantastic Japanese food. Lovely buzzing environment, not posh, so great for a fun night with friends.

Tasty Sushi!

By Trip597356 |

Yummy, fast sushi. Had the salmon and avocado roll and some miso soup. Quick, delish, sat in the waiting area which was very comfortable. I can recommend it!

Excellent service

By Marisdenoir |

Tried Nobu because we were looking for a Japanese restuarant near our hotel and could not find one. We came in on a Saturday night and since the place was at the Gaslamp district, it was brimming with guests, but we arrived pretty early so they managed to get us a table even without a reservation. It was our first time there and the menu sort of confused us, but our server was amazing. He explained the menu and made a few suggestions, which we decided to go with. Tried the Black Cod and the rock tempura, which were really good and not what I was expecting. Also tried their traditional tempura but that was rather blah. Service was excellent, although it took a while for the food to arrive since the place was full. There was a little hiccup when tempura sauce got spilled on another dish as they were serving it, but I admire the promptness and efficiency with which they resolved it. I did not feel rushed despite the clear number of people waiting for a table. If I ever return to San Diego, will definitely return to try other things perhaps on a weekday when things are less busy.

I expected more

By WeSawIt |

I’ve been to Nobu in Malibu and London, and really enjoyed it. This experience in San Diego left me wanting more. It was overcrowded and the food was good, but not overly impressive. The service was slow. For the price, I wouldn’t go back.

Below average - not a 4 star establishment

By Breakfast-42D2 |

My expectations were way too high. The blue fin tuna sashimi was the only item on our table that was great, everything else ranged from good - to average - and the unagi and cucumber/unagi role were the worst I've had. The service was very good, but the ambiance was one step above a cafeteria. It is next to the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel and that about sums up the quality level. There are much better restaurants to spend less at.

Omakase is the way to go here!

By ASA224 |

Let the Chef surprise you. Not inexpensive, but worth both the time and money. From the diversity of preparation, presentation, and flavors ranging from the subtle to the sublime, our Omakase did not disappoint anyone at the table. A must while in San Diego.

By Pedro C |

Nobu was our second choice for sushi after the first choice could not accommodate us. The ambiance was good and not too loud. The service was on point. It was a well orchestrated machine from the minute you approach the hostess. The food was disappointing. We tried the sashimi and the gyoza, that was fine. We also ordered maki and that was just average. The pinot grigio from Friuli was really good. If I want average sushi, I rather eat it at a less expensive place.

Meh. Overrated and underperforming

By WorldTravelingWombat |

I love Japanese food and traditions but this experience was very limited and felt very "franchised", which I guess it is now. No Chef's choice, no sake flights, no originality, no particular focus. Food coming out in the wrong order. My $1,200 would've been better spent at so many other great Japanese restaurants in the US.

Consistent and efficient.

By El Panzon |

Service was very nice, the food amazing as always. An extensive wine list with allot to choose from. We had a great time!

Very good food and service- high prices for small portions. Nothing was exceptional.

By MC7894 |

Very good food and service- stark atmosphere not consistent with price point. Small portions of good quality food prepared well. Nothing is memorable. Should be better for the price point which is 75-100 per person.

Great sushi.

By Jabrd |

It’s crowded & noisy but the sushi was great, also grilling etc. The uni was very fresh! Kobe beef was terrific.

Great food and desserts but service was not exemplary with the price you pay.

By Annonymous289 |

The waiters are not very prompt in service, probably due to the high occupancy of the customers during dinner. Wrong order even repeated couple of times, perhaps due to the high noise level in the restaurant :( However having said that, the food are superb! The black cod and the scallops was wonderful. Wasabi shrimp was great too! For the Desserts we had pavlova that served with sorbet was good and the whiskey caramel date cake with some walnut finishing was fantastic!

Come With a Big Wallet if You are Hungry

By Laura |

It's Nobu and it was right by my hotel, so I wanted to try it. One cocktail and one hot entree later, I'm down $55. And I'm still hungry, as the entree was not enough to feed even a toddler. A few more cocktails and a Spicy Tuna roll later, I'm down another $80. And still hungry. Bottom line. The food is delicious. But if you come hungry, be prepared to fork out a lot of money.

I'm definitely coming back, but I will tell the bussers to slow it down and leave the place until we're finished.

By avid_travler |

The food was absolutely delicious! And the ambience was perfect. Our waiter was very helpful and kind. But I was very disappointed with the buzzers. They kept taking our plates in forever finished, and when I turn to take a sip of my drink it was already gone. I'm definitely returning and I would highly recommend the place. But I would at the beginning of my dinner till the bussers to slow it down.

Shouldn’t be called Nobu

By stewartrichards200 |

Without sounding like a douch! I’ve had the luxury and pleasure of dinning in a few Nobu restaurants around the world (London, Tokyo, New York, Vegas, Milan and LA). The service was great although the waiters were very pushy to clear the plates away. Unfortunately the food was very average for the price. If your familiar with the fast food chain Wasabi in the UK I’d have to say the food there is of a higher standard! Was such a shame as my girlfriend and I had been looking forward to the dinner for a few days prior as our previous experiences with Nobu restaurants had been so amazing!

Great restaurant

By FERNANDO A |

They are one of those restaurants that are really expensive, but you don't mind, because you eat spectacular, apart from the Service is first class, and the Mood is very nice

Outstanding!

By NBH_RH2 |

I’d heard great things about Nobu, so my expectations were very high. Despite this, they were blown sky high. Simply outstanding Sushi and I look forward to returning in the future.

Super chic environment...

By Amy W |

and great food! My husband and I eat here when we are in SD and it never disappoints:) Service is very attentive, drinks unique and food outstanding~ Go & ENJOY!

Good food but...

By chirp54 |

We've eaten at Nobu in Las Vegas before and came expecting a similar experience. Maybe its location in the Hard Rock Hotel should have given us the clue that the subtleness and refinement of the Vegas restaurant would be lacking here. It's very loud. Okay, I can live with that. But the food was not up to the Vegas restaurant, either. We ordered a dish we'd had before, the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno. In Vegas, the tuna was wafer-thin and the balance of tuna, jalapeno and yuzu sauce was pefect. Here the tuna was cut quite thick. It sounds like a little detail, but it throws the balance of flavors out of whack. It's also quite a large mouthful of fish. The ceviche was very good but a larger portion than we expected. Both hot dishes we ordered, the Black Cod with Miso and the Arctic Char with Crispy Spinach were delicious but again, the portions were gigantic and really a bit more food than we wanted. The biggest disappointment, however was with the service. In Vegas, the service given by our waiter, Columbia Tran, made our experience so memorable. He walked us through the menu, offering expert advice on what we should try and his knowledge of sake was enormous. Our SD waiter really didn't know much about sake, and offered to bring us tasters, but they never arrived. We asked a second waiter and got the tasters, but again, there was no advice about what sakes match best with which dishes. In fact, we didn't have one waiter, but three or four, none of whom seemed particularly engaged. We ended up making a hasty exit as a man who had seemingly bathed in cologne was seated at the next table. The manager offered to move us to another table, which was lovely, but by then we were over full and ready to escape the din.

Great night

By Anthony A |

Went to dinner and used the valet service for parking. Was very easy and efficient. Brian helped us out and was very attentive. Would definitely recommend this parking garage for anyone who would like an easy walk to town. It was very close to everything.

Won't Disappoint!

By thetinman1 |

A wide menu selection will have you unsure of where to start! Not to worry though, as you can't go wrong with any of the choices! The service here was impeccable! The evening flew by as we sampled a little of many choices. Not a one was less than outstanding! The service was fantastic with our food arriving hot and delicious! This restaurant will set you back but it will be worth it!

Sushi was best as usual but I was not impressed with everything else- did $150 Omakase

By Michael B |

Their sushi is still the best around. Local california Uni is incredible. But the waiter didnt listen to our concerns. My wife order a la carte and told him that she is very sensitive to any spice including Onions, cilantro and of course peppers, wasabi etc. (We have eaten at nobu many times and this was our anniversary dinner). He brough her a lobster dish that was spicy. Even though he promised it would not be. Then during my Omakase, one of the courses was Lobster Tempura. Not had that during Omakas before. Its was heavy and honesty I was so full after it that I stopped my Omakase even though there were several courses left. I just dont think it was a good choice. I did tell the waiter that I love all forms of Sushi, sashimi etc. etc.

Just OK

By Damon H |

We had the tasting menu, which I have to say was just OK. The black cod was burnt, and lacking flavour it wasn't cheap, so we definitely expected better.

Great service and food

By Sakamoto B |

Excellent Sushi at NOBU. The portions were generous. Would recommend going during happy hour. The staff was very accommodating for allergies we had.

By Jocelyn A |

The valet service was prompt, professional, and friendly. It set a perfect tone for the evening. Brian helped us out very quickly. We then went to dinner at nobu and the experience was equally fantastic, with great food, attentive service, and a warm ambiance.

Take me back

By MGV |

Went with my best friend for dinner before going out for drinks. Service was great and food was amazing. It was full but still felt comfortable Don’t miss the house cold sake

Great sushi

By Anurag Agarwal |

Black cod and other cold plates were terrific. Well worth the money for a romantic dinner. Portions are quite good and tasty

Best Sushi Ever, Service over the Top

By Traveler264 |

What a fantastic place to have a wonderful Dinner. The sushi was the freshest and best presented I have seen. The service was absolutely perfect. This is a must visit when in San Diego.

Plus and minus

By 979pauln |

While the food was superb the service was substandard. No one person seemed to be responsible for our table. I would rather have food of less quality and feel well cared for.

Once and done

By Scenic58753045120 |

We were staying at the Hard Rock hotel so decided to try Nobu. The music in the restaurant was extremely loud so people are having to yell over the music and then the servers were trying to yell over everything. too loud and chaotic. I could not even hear our server. The food is good, but nothing special, especially for the price.

It was good. Fun drinks. Good

By Brinicward |

It was good. Fun drinks. Good quality sashimi. The crispy rice was fun. Chicken wings were fatty but good flavor. It was a solid. But very pricey.

No More Nobu

By Patrick T |

We were looking forward to celebrating with Dear friends and this was a complete disappointment. Server took the first order for Sea Bass. And replied,"with your Cod, would you like any sides or steamed rice?". Next, server disappeared after the drinks were served. After appetizers, a person came and dropped off a Salmon dish to a guest and there we sat for 20 mins waiting for the other 3 entrees. I had to get up and find a manager. Apologies, I'll have it right out, 7 mins later we got the other 3 entrees. Waited next for the sides and finally server comes back apologizing."Can we just get our green beans?". Then again server disappeared. Couldn't find the manager again until I went outside and he was chatting with 3 hostesses. Finished dishes sat at on our table forever. For the price point, these are items one should never have to experience. Pitiful experience and poor service with a manager who didn't seem to care. First and last time there.

Birthday dinner

By Brunette Traveler |

Came for a birthday dinner with a couple of friends and it was such a great experience. The staff was so friendly and the food was delicious, make sure you order a yellowtail sashimi. It was so good, we ordered two!

The best Nobu I've been in -- and I'm from New York

By Tom M |

The food is some of the very best in the world. They still have their now-traditional menu (it was groundbreaking when it was first introduced) and they continue to evolve with their "New" selections. We ordered from all parts of the menu, and everything was exquisite. My personal favorite is the albacore. They didn't have it at to-their-standards sushi-fresh this time, so they offered it seared, and it was still superb. I admire their dedication to perfection, and the last time I was there I had an all-albacore chef's-choice (at my request) meal. But whatever you choose, it will be the best that it can be.

Excellent Family and Friends Dinner Night

By EGarci |

The service is great. Even though we were a party of six everything was perfectly served on a timely fashion. The food is fresh and exquisite, and plates are presented so beautifully. Black cod is a must have. Ambiance is very nice. We really enjoyed a perfect Family & Friends dinner night.

Everything the day is true

By Andre R |

Can sushi be art? Yes it can be art, and Nobu is the master. The sushi is incredible. The dry miso must be tried. Overall, it was a wonderful meal.

Noisy but fun!

By Jim A |

Visiting San Diego, Nobu highly recommended by my brother. The bad: Noisy, small portions and expensive (Over $100 for 2 people with no drinks) The good: highly attentive servers, heart of Gas Lamp, nice decor. Sat and watched a family of 4 next to us, completely absorbed in their smart phones! :) If the presentations had been stellar, I would have giving them a 4 rating, but they were just so-so. For this kind of money, work on wowing us with amazing food artistry!

Very Good, but Very Expensive

By luv2travl003 |

Nobu, located in the Hard Rock Hotel of all places, seems a bit out of place. What is a high-end, classy Japanese restaurant doing in the Hard Rock? In any event, having dined at some of its sister restaurants, we opted for the Tanoshi Hour on a summer Friday. Tanoshi Hour has its own menu of small bites. We chose the yellowtail sashimi, pork yakiniku and black cod. All were stellar, but at $4.50 per bite on a happy hour priced menu, they should be. Washed it down with an Asahi draft ($7 for a tall, but thin, stein - probably no more than 10 oz.). Overall, quality was very high, as was the price.

Wonderful!

By DreamTraveler365 |

Nobu, never disappoints! First time at this location. All my favorites and more. The yellowtail sushi was define! Rock shrimp was delicious. Service always spot on. Cocktails were great as well.

Pretty good but not great

By Kiran K |

I am a vegan so this review is second hand. As a vegan however there are a few things you can eat here, miso soup, various vegetable dishes and vegetable sushi. I had miso soup, eggplant dish that had an odd flavor, didn’t care for it , vegetable roll with raw okra that added a nice crunch. The 2 people I went with had the Omakasi dinner, most of it was great, what they liked the least was the sushi, they said it was uninspired and not as good as they expected but quite enjoyed all the other dishes. The cost is about $115.00 a person but you get quite a lot of food. Parking is insanely expensive , I guess San Diego thinks it’s New York now.

Best dinning experience ever

By Departure60584861794 |

Food and customer service was amazing. Must try the Yellowtail jalapeño, Tai sashimi with dry miso and Alaskan Salmon.

Relaxed Dining Room, Superb Food

By KellermansFanClub |

This is a great Nobu. It's a relaxed dining space with really good food. The lights are dim and the place buzzes but not too loud, having a conversation is easy. Our service was great, not a detail missed. We had the black cod - delicious - and a beef dish served sizzling in a boiling broth, also delicious. The cut rolls are too big for one bite which is a little awkward. The martini was sublime and they have a great wine and sake list. The location is great, really close to the ballpark and so many hotels. Highly recommend.

Good selection

By maweb31 |

Located in the Hard Rock Hotel, we were over 20 and took a private room with the fixed menu. There was a lot on the menu and the food was very good by its quality and variety. Service was professional.

Worst restaurant I have been to service sucks everyone is rude not to mention overpriced

By Rita B |

This is the worst sushi place I have ever been to. If you want to be insulted and humiliated and overcharged then go to this place. The service sucked. After I paid my bill and left the waiter chased after me telling me to come back and pay my bill I went back and showed him my recipient and left he came after me again now I am getting so pissed now I asked for the manager and showed her my receipt she said ok no apologies nothing... now I am insulted and humiliated after I paid $89 for 6 pieces of salman and 6 pieces of tuna and a glass of Merlot. This is truly the worst place I have ever been too and I eat out every night. After spending $89 I get insulted and humiliated and no apology. Please do not go to this place it is the worst.

Good but too pricey

By travlkat29 |

This restaurant is inside the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego (Gaslamp District). The sushi/sashimi was very fresh and tasty. The mushroom salad was incredibly flavorful and a stand-out dish. The rock shrimp dish was just OK, nothing special. The restaurant layout is a bit odd and feels cramped, especially when it's busy and full of people, so not really much of an ambience. Although the food is very good I'm not sure the prices are justified, since at the end of the day, it's still a chain restaurant.

Exceptional Sushi Dining Experience!

By Cynthia A |

I have eaten sushi in just about every part of this state country, some international and I have never had sushi like they serve at Nobu. I get how some of the reviewers say Nobu is getting "cookie cutter" since all the Nobu's around the world serve the same menu. Wonder why they do that? Because it's great and different from all the other millions of sushi restaurants. Noisy and crowded? Well that's what you get when the restaurant is busy and full! We were here at Nobu in San Diego for a family/ business dinner and it was outstanding. The service was impeccable. The waitstaff brought us our dishes at perfect intervals, we never had too many dishes on the table and they were prompt with the beverages! Perfect friendly service! What other sushi restaurant serves a Blue Fin Toro Tartare with caviar? Absolutly delicious, melted in your mouth! How about the incredible King Crab Tempura, Lobster with Wasabi Pepper sauce, Scallops with Spicy Garlic Sauce, Yellowtail Sashimi, the wonderful Shishito Pepers and their Field of Greens with Matsuhisa Dressing? All of the meal was exceptional! And lets not forget the unbelievable Wagyu Beef Flambe!! delicious! We also had about 20 orders of the best Uni we have ever had! We live on the East Coast where the sushi is outstanding but not as creative as NOBU. A tremendous dining experience!

Say that again please?

By Erica S |

I first visited 6 months ago. I am pleased to report the food is still innovative and outstanding. So good in fact, I am unbothered by the $28-42 price range of all entrees which are definitely tapas portions. The experience of eating here however has deteriorated. IT IS UNBEARABLY LOUD. I repeated every single word I said to my waitress and dinner date. Every single thing said to me had to be repeated. I have normal hearing and a normal pitch and volume to my speaking voice. Can u please just hand me the black cod miso at the door? I can’t go back inside.

Super sushi

By MAC |

This Resturant was in my hotel (Hardrock). The welcome was superb ..... super friendly. The menu is extensive and the food was delicious. I’d rate this as one of the best Sushi restaurants I have eaten in. Ambiance was excellent. Now, as good as it is it isn’t cheap but like everything in life, you get what you pay for. Recommend and I look forward to returning.

Good food, slow service

By AuntieF |

Food was good, even great but the service was slow and intermittent. some were served almost immediately after ordering dinner and the rest of us over 30 minutes later. It was so noisy, we couldn't hear from one end of the booth to the other. Had bad service in New York several years ago, decided to give them a try again, but probably not again after this.

Another tasty experience at Nobu San Diego

By Robert M |

The San Diego Nobu location always provides consistently fresh products and meal is prepared to highest Nobu expectations. My personal favorite is the yellowtail jalapeño, Salmon was also extremely fresh. Lychee martini always very tasty.

high quality, innovative, all your nobu favorites

By abmilw |

sat at the sushi bar, friendly, can be quick - but no pressure, service attentive, nice vibe and the food/quality -> oh so good.

Restaurant Week

By Brads P |

My wife and I came for restaurant week. We had to ask for the RW menu which was not what we normally experience at other restaurants. The process is you have to pick the same meals and split each one for $100. The starter was a yellow fin tuna which was the highlight of the meal. We then had another tuna which was covered with a lettuce and also good but it great. We then had the steak which was good but also not great. We had ice cream for dessert which was also okay. The wine is expensive but good quality. The restaurant is loud and parking is impossible so I recommend valet.

Expensive but worth it

By Angelica S |

My husband and I had dinner at this Nobu's because we were celebrating his birthday. We ordered1 beefeater martini, a beer, 1 bottle of cold sake, shishito peppers, miso soup, chicken kushi, black cod, vegetable tempure, and kan amarilo. The total price without tip was 177.79. The food and service was good. A good place to splurge. Ambiance is fine. Con-Good luck finding parking in downtown S.D.

Never again

By bev h |

The service was insincere and rushed. There was a person often hovering near out table to take plates, not comfortable at all. The music was SOOOO loud. The food....well for the "sashimi salad" that was $37 (USD at that), it was the most disgusting thing I've ever had. And unfortunately I had severe vomiting and diarrhea later in the night and the next day. I was the only one that ate this and the three other people I was with were not sick. The rolls were adequate. The sea bass was good. This is the third Nobu I have been to. I have always found the music to be way too loud. This is the first one I have been to where the service was so bad. If you are looking for a really great experience do not go here. it is not worth the money.

Very good Japanese restaurant although very expensive.

By Yvette H |

The service and the ambiance were perfect. Most of the dishes were excellent, except one crab ceviche that was very salty and had too much vinager in it so we couldn't taste the crab, but sense the texture only.

A must in town

By Michele C |

Fine food and a new, amazing choice of wines, better to book in advance. A nice atmosphere for a romantic night or a business meeting, Fair prices

To much pressure

By 596titti70 |

Food was really good but the pressure put by the waiter in order to finish the bottle of wine and leave the table as soon as possible was really annoying especially because if I go in a restaurant where I spend at least 150$ per person I pretend to not have somebody behind me any 3 minutes

Excellent food in a very energetic setting

By kevmosd |

Went here as a couple during restaurant week, so there was a fixed price menu ($50). The food is outstanding, very interesting takes on Japanese dishes. The miso black cod, their signature dish, melts in your mouth with flavor. Wine was a bit pricey for what seemed like small pours. Our problem with the place is that it seems very "Hard Rock Hotel" in character - loud, very very busy, waiters bustling everywhere, and a greeter who yells out in a Japanese welcome every time he brings a new couple into the dining room! If you want excellent food in a very energetic setting, this is your place...

Omakase

By Susie1028 |

Nobu San Diego is located within the Hard Rock Hotel in the Gaslamp District downtown. Parking is difficult, and valet is $18. So uber or walk if you are able. We did a 7 course omakase meal, which basically means chef's choice, served family style. We enjoyed most of the food dishes, and loved our cocktails. Service was friendly (I didn't like a squid dish, and it was immediately removed and replaced). Overall, a fun and unique dining experience.

Amazing Sushi 🍣 !

By Chris Dietz |

So in town for a guys weekend. Most are huge sushi fans, I am not. But went along and wow was I amazed! There was not one item I didn’t want to devour. This place knows how to make and present their menu to you. Incredible service and Menu. You will be extremely fulfilled and satisfied from start to finish. From the novice to lover of sushi, this is the pace to go.

Just So-So

By TravelMacks |

Our dinner at Nobu was during Comic Con, so that might be why it was less than average, but I was very underwhelmed with this location. I felt like I was on a cruise ship and was being rushed to get in and out. Food was good, not great. Service was robotic, not especially friendly

This is a wonderful first date and 10th date spot. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to come and get great food

I’ve eaten in many Japanese

By Giovanni J |

I’ve eaten in many Japanese restaurants around the world, but NOBU is not the best option to enjoy Japanese cuisine! Pricy and not worthy! The restaurant enjoys the good reputation of the stakeholders. Also, service was not at the level as I expected. The visit to NOBU just fulfilled with a checkmark in my list.

Dinner on my biz trip

By keroro7 |

Pricy American Japanese Restaurant. Foods is good, though. Japan style, but it's way far from conventional, which doesn't mean "bad", but you may be disappointed if you're expecting traditional/conventional Japanese menu and entries. I ordered Cod fish on butter lettus ($36) and fried squid fish ($24). These dishes were tasty for sure, way too expensive considering little , tiny size of foods. Way way way expensive. So my rating can not be good for this restaurant.

Fish is not comparable

By jake2771 |

Went here for dinner right before it got busy. Great service and terrific food. The fish they procure is really top notch. Cocktails are unique and perfect. Way too noisy when fully occupied to the point it detracts from the dining experience. At this price point -they need to address the sound level.

AWFUL food, and the service was even worse.

By SoFla1947 |

We had dinner at Nobu on our first night in San Diego. It was appointed like a diner (sealed wood tables with no tablecloths, cheap, flimsy and uncomfortable chairs, nothing soft to deaden the LOUD noise throughout the meal, etc. The tiny rocks on the tables supposed to hold the chopsticks from touching the (sticky) tables were selected at random, so there was really no way to balance the chopsticks on them. The cheap disposable chopsticks were not wrapped, so who knows what might have been on the tips or who may have handled them…yuck!!! When we were seated a server dropped off a drink menu, and then we sat for a full thirty minutes not being spoken to or recognized by this server. I finally went up to the host station to request another table with a different server, and the hostess acted horrified. A different server was immediately sent to our table, and believe it or not, things got even worse. My wife ordered a cocktail, and I ordered a fruit punch with no alcohol. After about twenty minutes her drink arrived, and it too had no alcohol (for $15.00). My drink was supposed to have litchi, passionfruit, and pineapple juice with no alcohol ($9.00). There was no taste of litchi, no passionfruit, just a canned stale tasting pineapple juice, a piece of a canned litchi, brown at the margins and stuck with a bit of bamboo, and lots of unsweetened lemon juice (unmentioned on the menu). It was horribly sour, and I couldn’t drink it past the first sip. We ordered some sushi to start, and after another interminable wait, it arrived. Since there were four sushi preparers at the sushi bar, and none of them seemed busy, the wait was ridiculous. We ordered Uni, which they claim was fresh from La Jolla just up the road. It was not fresh, having even lost its color it was so old, and lacked the briny smooth sweetness that Uni is known for. But even worse was the Abalone. I LOVE Abalone, but this was the worst taste of the night. It was shoe-leather tough, slimy, and felt as if it had wooden toothpicks in the flesh. I tried chewing it but I couldn't, plus I was afraid that whatever it was that felt like wood in it would pierce my gums or my palate. I spit it out on the plate and told the server. No apology, no offer to replace it with another item, and of course I was charged for it. The Yellowtail Roll was very tiny, the fish almost undetectable, and again, not fresh. It gets worse. We ordered King Crab Tempura with two sides, Tempura Okra with Black Garlic Sauce and a Japanese Eggplant dish with Soy and Ginger. The King Crab Tempura was NOT King Crab. The pieces were small and thin, so my guess is that they were the ubiquitous “Snow Crab” that you can have at any all-you-can-eat cheap Asian buffet. The pieces (five of them, each the size of my little finger) were mushy and flavorless, a sure sign of old, frozen crabmeat. The dish also contained dozens of small rings of the hottest, most unpleasant pepper on the planet. There was no mention of this on the menu, so when I ate one the top of my head flew off from the heat. This was an awful plate of food. We ate the bits of crab (by this time we were ravenous) after carefully picking out the pepper rings. There was no sign of the side dishes. About fifteen minutes later, the Okra arrived. It was the only good dish of the night. It was supposed to be served, along with the Eggplant, as side dishes to the crab. It was not, and still…no sign of the Eggplant. After another fifteen minutes the Eggplant arrived. It was undercooked, the skin was like canvas, it had not a hint of ginger flavor, and, undisclosed on the menu, it was covered in Bonito Flakes. I HATE the fishy taste of Bonito Flakes, and it infused the entire dish. No excuse, no explanation as to why the side dishes were served in a long sequence following the entrée. To make a long story short, this was TERRIBLE FOOD and EVEN WORSE SERVICE. The prices are sky high, everyone seems confused, and this all adds up to one of the worst if not THE worst dining experiences of my life. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY FROM NOBU in San Diego. My wife and I travel the world and eat everything from street market fare to Michelin starred cuisine. There is wonderful food in San Diego. How does NOBU keep its doors open?

We won’t be visiting again.

By Ian G |

Overpriced, overrated, small portions and very noisy. We were even presented with the bill before we had decided on a dessert or finished our drinks.

CHEF ALWAYS SURPRISE US WITH NEW, TASTY AND INNOVATIVE DISHES

By LuisFerTJ |

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Being regular customers and normally getting the omakase tasting menu, Chef always surprise us with new, innovative and delicious dishes

Went in for happy hour only to learn there isn't one

By Kyle W |

Nobu has earned a great reputation in all of their locations and this is no different. Walked in after the San Diego travel show for a quick bite and was not disappointed. Nice decorations and good gas lamp location

Creative and good

By Ken F |

Hadn't previously eaten here or even heard of the restuarant. Found it on TA and decided to give it a go. Was very impressed. There was a large variety on the menu from the basic to the innovative. Something for everyone. And it was all delicious. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. As this is a large, open space keep in mind that it can be quite loud, which is no big deal as long as you're expecting it. We would eat there again if in the area.

Specials are special; regular sushi, meh

By NoIberostarFan |

Nobu’s regular sushi and sashimi are nothing special despite the pricing. However their specialty items are delightful. If you want regular saki and nori rolls, go somewhere else. If you go to Nobu, spend the money to move into where they distinguish themselves.

relaxing evening

i have been to the other Nobus they never disappoint. each time i go i try something new. This time we left the waitress pick for us. two cold apps two warm a main dish and a sushi roll it was all amazing

We can't say enough about our experience. Try something new!! Put yourself in the chef's hands and you won't be disappointed!! The drinks alone are worth it.

High quality food but not cheap

By The Exploring Northerner |

Nobu is a chain with a strong focus on seafood and Asian influence. The restaurant is always busy with an open plan and a bar there is plenty going on. The food is really really good, we Tried the tasting menu which had at least 10 dishes all were phenomenal with a big plate of sushi and sashimi at the end. There is so much the tasting dishes give the best opportunity to explore the variety available it cost around $100 a head.

Get the TORO!!!

By Jay B |

Toro!!! Need I say more. Rock shrimp tempura a must, especially with both ponzu and creamy spice, best of both worlds. The mushroom soup is a must for mushroom lovers. Best black cod by far. For dessert the passion fruit Semifreddo was delicious. Home run, Touchdown, Goal, you name it they did it. Definitely will return again and again and again and again.

Excellent!

By Robert B |

Not much words needed, except, when you are in San Diego and want an extraordinary dinner, go to the Nobu! We had a real great Dinner with great vines and a super friendly stuff there! Thx to all there!

Dissapointed.

By Carlos E |

Medium to average. Quality of fish was average. Not what we expected for a Nobu. Wont be back to this one. We have been to several Nobu’s and have had great sushi, this was very much below our expectations for a Nobu.

Lovely

By WeebieWob |

They didn't have tables free so we ate in the bar area which we preferred... comfy couches and low lighting. My last time at Nobu was in London many years ago, but we were surprised that they didn't have any noodle dishes or any rice dishes (?) That being said we had a wonderful meal - the rock shrimp in creamy spicy sauce (similar to bang bang shrimp but lemony), crab in a very light delicate sweet and sour sauce, the jalapeno cauliflower, the lamb... we also had the banana and panna cotta desserts and some dessert cocktails. Not cheap (~$350 for 3 people) but a great dinner and fantastic service.

What are they thinking?? So bad, so expensive

By 189hans |

Very average Japanese dishes, for exorbitant prices. Supermarket sushi and sashimi are not much worse at all. Paying $455 ex tip for 2 persons is unacceptable. Nobu is off our list for ever, worldwide.

First omakase experience

By Ryan W |

The omakase at Nobu is a well thought out experience, each dish an artfully plated mouthful of flavour. I say mouthful because each dish is portioned so you don't get full before the end of the dinner (although to be honest I still wasn't full even at the end of the meal).

Good food, but a bit overpriced

By Nadina P |

I stop in here sometimes when I want a treat, and there's plenty like the truffle salad that is delicious. It is a bit overpriced; this is certainly not a casual sushi spot.

Terrible experience

By Kamilla |

Celebrated my birthday. Always had a good experience before but this time it was terrible - 3 salmon avocado rolls looked worse than at a cheap corner sushi place and avocado was hard as rock. Complained to the waiter but he did nothing. When paying for the ruined experience I asked him if he told the chef and he said yes but the chef said it was ok. When i asked about a birthday candle i received 2 chocolates with “Happy Anniversary” instead if “birthday”. Should have talked to the manager but did not want to ruin my birthday. Bad overall experience, bad food

Decent Food with Mediocre Service and High Prices in a Tired Chain

By Ted V |

Food and Bev are good to very good. Service and ambiance do not justify the high price tag (and the price is very high). Nobu reminds me of so many chain restaurants that peaked 5+ years ago and now are sustained by their reputation, but have lost the magic and are no longer innovating or staying fresh. That may not be true for Malibu or other locations....but SD felt way past prime....and in a hotel that is in the same boat (Hard Rock).

Nobu

By kdwilliamspt |

Nobu had a great atmosphere and food! Our waiter, Tyler, was wonderful! We will definitely be back!!

Overpriced, underserved, underflavoured

By caprod |

I got really let down with my dining experience at the Nobu. I went there with a friend party because they had read it was one of the best Japanese restaurants in the US, but boy, were they wrong. The food was nothing beyond common, except for the portion sizes which were minute. I tried several different pieces from the menu, including the live fried octopus, some tempura, and others, and none really surprised my tastebuds. The dessert was also tasteless. The only really worth part was the white wine - their wine selection is really amazing. For such a deceptive experience, I cannot help but having the impression that Nobu is really overpriced and overhyped, sustaining itself only on its own fame.

Had to try it onces!

By sukie630 |

We love sushi so we had to try Nobu at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego. We were very pleased with the ambiance and it is not your usual local sushi place. It is much more fancier and pricey. We tried the San Diego sampler which is delicious but thank goodness we order extra orders to fill us up.

Business dinner

By danyellekukuk |

There were a group of seven of us that dined here a few days ago and as expected, Nobu did not disappoint! We had quite a range of dishes - some favorites were the ahi tuna with jalepeno, wrapped cod, okra, scallops, lobster tacos... there were too many to remember them all! Our server was friendly and very helpful! I’ve been to several Nobu restaurants around the world and will continue to visit them as my travels allow... I am never disappointed!

Lovely outdoor dining.

By kim414may |

I visited this place using a TravelZoo voucher. Great deal! Definitely get a reservation, we had to wait a bit even despite having one.

Beautiful food

Polished service, server answered all our questions about menu items. Food was beautiful and delicious. Enjoyed our Nobu experience!

An experience of freshness and class

By Ginger P |

Hoped to go here and stumbled on the San Diego location. Husband and I got late reservation same week day. As others have said you need to enter this as an experience. It was a good couples experience yet large group I think would be even better based on food presentation and shared items . Tuna and caviar with Wasabi was amazing. Speciality cocktails did disappoint- tried two. The “squid” pasta was to die for

Nobu San Diego

By Michael K |

My wife and I went to Nobu San Diego last night. It was our first time experiencing Nobu even though we have been wanting to try it for awhile. We didn’t know what to expect with the pandemic and dining in California. It was all outdoor seating which was very nice on a Friday night with the weather perfect. The food was amazing. They didn’t rush us and brought us the food dish by dish and not all at once. Everything was high quality and the service was impeccable. We will be returning.

Best dinner ever!

By Mike O |

I have never had sushi, or any raw fish like this ever. I was amazed at the flavor and variety. We had a chef sampler with Sashimi, sea bass, scallops, and 9 kinds of sushi. Even the ginger soy salad was amazing. I think the sea bass was my favorite but I am not sure I could pick just one. We ordered the Banana Soy Toban for desert and wanted to lick the bowl. I can't wait for an occasion to go back.

Great Food, Service Not So Much

By Meander11085713023 |

As was expected the food was amazing, the service not so much. Our server while attentive was borderline arrogant and seemed to do only what was necessary to get by. After we ordered two tables adjacent to us arrived and were offered a number of off menu specials that we were not. I guess we didn’t look important enough. When our entrees arrived there was nearly a 10 minute gap between the first and second (both hot entrees). When we finally asked the server said “at Nobu the dishes come out when they’re ready”. I’d suggest that at Nobu they should figure out that entrees come out together so one person doesn’t sit and watch while the other person either eats or lets their dinner get cold. A manager stopped by and acknowledged that timing has been an issue. This was our first time at this Nobu location having dined at locations in NYC and Atlanta so our expectations were high. The only reason I rated a 4 was the quality of the food and drinks. In general we will return to restaurants with great service and just go food. Not the reverse.

Excellent Experience

By Lew S |

Just back from London where Nobu Shoreditch is now our favorite and we were delighted to find Nobu San Diego also serving the excellent cauliflower with jalapeno sauce and wonderful ‘tacos’. The smallish size of this Nobu is, for us, a plus. And we actually preferred sitting in the lounge.

Been There & Done That!

By Steve R |

This location was in the hotel that I stayed in, so i had to try the 'famous' Nobu.I can now say 'been there & done that'. I sat a the sushi bar, where you can usually have a repore with the chef. I've got close to 40 years of sushi dining experiences around the U.S., this one is maybe fair, and about triple the price of your best sushi in your town. Portions are not in line with the pricing. For me - meh.....

Last evening in San Diego!

By NaimaNotFound |

for our last night in San Diego, having to catch a very early flight the next morning, we decided to stay for dinner right under the hotel where we stayed. Having spotted Nobu, I didn't hesitate to book a table. Exquisite sushi, Vegan alternatives abound. Excellent wines. The outdoor space of the restaurant is nice, very private. Too bad about the entrance from the Hard Rock Cafe. Prices in line with the type of restaurant in the city. Highly recommended.

Great spot

By Dana B |

Wonderful high quality, great flavors and variety. Very friendly and attentive staff we enjoyed everything.

Fresh, flavorful food and divine cocktails in a people friendly, music enthused setting. Get some fish and some fun!

By MBAEsquire |

Our first Nobu experience was just that, an experience. We enjoyed the great food and drink and deer ice was top notch, but maybe a tad slow. They were busy but we were able to walk in and snag a seat in the pound. People watching was nice like the food! We had the cucumber sunomono, the black cod signature dish, the tuna Nobu tacos, the salmon skin salad and some sushi rolls. Everything was tasty!!! The sunomono, salad and cod were so flavorful, the tuna so moist and tender. Everything was fresh. Cocktails were great as well. If they are hit or miss to some tonight they hit a grand slam.

Great Food & Service

By oneterrificshopper2 |

This was our first time at Nobu and we greatly enjoyed it. Amazing service and the food was incredible. They were booked solid for the evening, but since we were there rather early they fit us in which we greatly appreciated. We will be back!

Very Happy Hour

By Karl and Sandra K |

Happy hour at Nobu brought a delectable sample of gourmet appetizers and a delightful offering of drinks. The tempura okra was the best we have ever had the garlic and pepper squid was amazing. The ceviche was small but the taste was incredible. Happy hour drinks were a little light on the alcohol, but the fruit infused sake made up for it.

Noisy, smelly, long but good.

By Urrica |

Friday evening, crowd, but it’s really difficult to talk at the table. Maybe our table was too near the kitchen but the food smell it’s too strong. Order all you want at the beginning, because in the crowded night it takes long time to receive your meal. The food is good: the quality of raw material is high, the preparation is special, nothing prevent you to taste every single flavour. The service is accurate and kind.. Prices are fine for the food but high for all other components.

Nobu has food, if you have coin...forget coin, bring dollars. Lots of dollars.

By alltheworldtosee15 |

Being an Iron Chef fan, I have always been curious about the original Japanese Iron Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's collection of restaurants. I didn't go all out, and so I ended up getting very little food for a comparatively large amount of money. I could have stuffed myself silly at another restaurant for the amount I paid, but Nobu was more of an amuse-bouche. The food I did have was pleasing, the beef skewers were tender and juicy, and the sashimi was fresh even though sashimi tastes pretty much the same wherever you go. The teas were delicate and refreshing, and service was fast despite how busy the restaurant was If money was no object, you could have a very nice epicurean adventure here. For the mid-to moderate range foodie however, Nobu will leave a sizable dent in your wallet, while leaving your stomach with only the slightest suggestion of satiety.

Excellent sushi but LOUD atmosphere

By kwagmeister |

Nobu San Diego is located off the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel. That should tell you that it will be a loud environment — and it is. This is an upscale sushi restaurant and the menu reflects a lot of creativity. We were with a group of friends, so when the waiter suggested they bring some of the more popular menu items we were on board. We shared 6 or 7 different things - peppers stuffed with beef, miniature shrimp tacos, seared ahi tuna, black cod, to name a few. All were outstanding. Service was excellent - constant refills of water glasses (and wine) and plates were refreshed as needed when new menu items appeared. This is a hip, fun place. But if you’re looking for quiet it may not be for you. For us it was a fun experience.

Great for sushi

By Dutch_Travel-R |

Wonderful. We had a memorable sushi meal. All very fresh and equally delicious. Excellent and attentive service. Not cheap, expect at least $100 per person, but very much worth it.

Great

By Joey H |

Great sushi and amazing drinks. The service was also well above average. It was the best combination of service, great food, and perfect drinks.

Delicious dinner - the king crab tempura is the best

By Stacy Strickland |

Our anniversary dinner this past week was delightful. Great service and food. My favorite items were the black cod with miso and the king crab tempura. I liked the tacos (we had both crab and tuna) and the salad with shitake mushrooms. I could've done without the handrolls (yellowtail with scallions, and shrimp tempura) as they were not that good, relative to the rest of the food.

RECOMMEND THE SAN DIEGO OMAKAZE TASTING MENU

By LuisFerTJ |

Nobu is amazing in creativity, service, presentation and the best and fresh food. Make sure the chef knows you had the tasting menu before, and he will offer different variations, so you don't get always the same.

Best Bday Dinner Ever!

By Natascha V |

We loved everything. We ordered a bunch of different dishes and shared between the 5 of us. All of it was amazing.

A wonderful place to gather

By AlwaysAskALocal |

A wonderful place to gather with friends and colleagues to think bigger, try new things and just enjoy. Pricey for sure. With lots of attentive staff fussing over patrons it’s hard to understand how they would neglect our drinks.

SO PERFECT!

By fishyduckymoose |

We were celebrating our anniversary! The staff and food made this for a most memorable evening. Thank you for taking the time to make sure our meal was wonderfully prepared and presented.

Valet was great!

By Esteban P |

Used the valet here on my way to dinner and they were quick and efficient. Brian was very attentive. Would recommend to anyone who want quick parking and nice conversation. Picking up our car was just as fast and we really appreciated the service given.

Better than average chain restaurant but with much higher prices

By M B |

They were out of oysters. The ceviche was no better than average and there was no artistry in the service platter. The nigiri sushi is matched by hundreds of better sushi restaurants at 1/3 the price. The beef teppan yaki with vegetables was “ok”, but the zucchini had not been peeled and the skin was thick and “unchewable”. The date cake for dessert was great.

The worst service ever!!!

By The_Chevalier |

The worst service ever! I ate at Nubo in London (park lane), NY (2 locations), Miami, Las Vegas, so I know what to expect. Except the excellent food everything less was a disaster. It took ages to get the food and the waiter was ordering dishes we never asked for (and charging us of course). Never again.

Delicious food

By Gary C |

Went with a business group, so never saw the bill so can't judge value. Had a multicourse meal, served family style. All but one course were very tasty; the other was too heavily spiced (for my perhaps slightly wimpy taste) but others enjoyed it more. I would like to go back but might be a bit wary of price.

In a word, "Meh"

By Sharron C |

We went to Nobu with our family for a birthday. I will say that the service is good. The servers are considerate and accommodating. We really enjoyed that aspect. That said, the food was mediocre, and that's being generous. My husband and I love Sushi. And I mean love love love sushi! We ordered a few rolls, and they or less than fresh. And small-like an inch across at the top. So you can imagine there wasn't much fish and it seemed they had given little to no effort on presentation. I can forgive a small roll if the sushi is really good and a great presentation. This had none of those things. If you want other items, they might be okay. As far as sushi goes, pass on Nobu

Festive & Tasty

By Andy |

When you walk in, you immediately get a sense of the festive atmosphere with the frequent training of salutations the staff and sushi chefs. The service is excellent - highly attentive and accommodating. The sushi roles and miso soup were very good. Not inexpensive.

Great fora group setting

By Paul S |

I was in town for a Business Dinner with twenty people. I got there early and hung out at the bar. Not too busy, it was a Thursday night. Nobu's house wines are name after the chef's his Last name "Matsuhisa". I had a glass the Matsuhisa Cab. Excellent bold red, very tasty! I must say, I thought I would get less service and quality of food when dinning in a large group but this was not the case. Amazing service. fast and polite. Food was plentiful and delicious. Only thing I did not care for is the green tea cheesecake.

Great dining experience

By David P |

Very good, patient service. Friendly. Unique preparations. Fresh fish. Would return next time in San Diego.

Date Sushi Night

By Dr. Khalil |

Fresh food, speedy service. The entire experience at San Diego Nobu was great. My wife and I usually travel to Malibu for Nobu however I think we may have a new sushi spot. The hot dishes were tasty and the drinks (martinis) complemented everything well. We never had to look for out waitress when we were ready to order more or even get more water. The service and food are top tier.

Excellent sushi and great energy

By Mariah |

We tried out Nobu while visiting San Diego for a conference. It was my first time at a Nobu restaurant and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is in the Hard Rock hotel and is very busy. For an appetizer I tried the beef tataki salad which was excellent. We ordered an assortment of maki rolls which were all melt in your mouth good. The elderflower martini is worth trying. I will be returning to Nobu on my next trip to San Diego.

If you are in a hurry for expensive and fast Sushi, Nobu SD is for you!

By Walk the Earth |

This is our 3rd Nobu, including the ones in Tokyo and Honolulu. San Diego is a separate experience from the rest. Where Tokyo and Honolulu are reserved and respectful affairs with excellent (albeit straight forward) sushi options. Nobu San Diego is loud, frantic, and a little forceful in their service. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Your drink will never run dry, your food will not be late, but the rushed manner is a little frenzied for our tastes. The price is standard Nobu, so expect to pay near Michelin costs. The food is quite good, the crab and unagi were truly excellent. Our server was truly on it as were the other staff. It seems that this is a management decision to improve turnover of tables. While we recommend this Nobu, I can't say it is the best I have been to.

Always good!

By Lesley332 |

Friendly efficient servers that keep bringing you delicious food and tasty drinks! We had the tacos, assorted tempura, and rolls! Everything was superb- there is a reason we always come here when we are in San Diego!!

ABC always be closing experience

By Wali-e |

We visited this location, July sixth of this year. We had heard amazing comments around this restaurant, and had always wanted to try and happen to be in the area. Unfortunately, our experience was not the same as what we had heard. Overall, the ambience with the staff was not so much service, but how to make sales. We had many visits by the server,, the assistant server and two others. Each time they they try to sell more more and it was a very high pressure environment that really ruined the night for us. Interestingly, we didn’t order much because of this. There were several comments that made us feel like we’re being cheapskates for initially ordering a smaller portion for an appetizer or feeling lost with the menu, and not knowing what to order for drinks. From our first visit with the server right off the bat then counter was a bit more tense. In regards to the items that we ordered I personally didn’t see the value of the meal as nothing was tasting spectacular, I can literally go to many other places in San Diego, and get the same or better quality and even better taste for a fraction of the cost and a much better experience. For a total of $90 we had two rolls and four extremely small tacos. Which again wouldn’t be so bad if it was amazing and the experience followed. If you charge, Michelin Star costs, then provide Michelin star service.

Three of us sat down for dinner. I made reservations and we were seated right away. The service was excellent

Fantastic first experience, we were all very happy with the quality of the food. So good and tender. I referred otherscv

Nobu will not disappoint

By Joy F |

Went to Nobu during restaurant week and it did not disappoint. Their signature cocktails are phenomenal. They are beautifully presented and have a ton of depth of flavor! The sushi was so fresh and delicious with just the right amount of sauce or spice to compliment. Waitstaff is attentive without being overly intrusive and the interior is cozy while still being upscale. Highly recommend!

Good Sushi

By luvtravel2001 |

We were excited to try Nobu but I have to say we left a little disappointed. The waiter was a little arrogant and kept trying to upsell us on the $100 per head experience when all we really wanted to do was try the sushi. The sushi was okay but we have had better.

The BEST tuna sushi!

By jumbrito |

We normally eat Tuna sushi at Yellowtail in Vegas because of its high quality. The tuna here just melts in your mouth it’s so delicious! We just ordered multiple rounds of tuna dishes and were completely satisfied, definitely eating here again! The cucumber salad was also delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable. Probably the best place we ate at in the Gaslamp district.

Amazing!

By RD- |

We visited Nobu in mid July for my sister in law’s birthday/ belated wedding celebrations. Having come over for. The UK and having heard mixed reviews I was excited to try for myself and get the full experience. Our server Mason was really knowledgeable and gave us some good recommendations on how we could get the full experience. He was attentive and really professional but made us feel comfortable enough to do our own thing when ordering and deciding on menus. My partner actually doesn’t eat seafood as a rule but due to the gorgeous presentation he couldn’t resist trying! Highlights included the Octopus Nigiri, Spicy Scallop Roll, Black Cod Lettuce and the Prime Rib Toban Yaki. Portions were larger than expected which was a pleasant surprise, everything came well presented and delicious. Mason made sure to keep us topped up on drinks all cocktails were delicious. Great experience and would return and recommend! (Only small complaint is it was pretty cold with the AC but that may be due to there being a lot of raw seafood around!)

Great experiance

Food was ok but overpriced and overrated. Waiters are rushing you to finish your meal . Totally bad experience for my family.

Top notch dining experience in a perfect setting!

Exceptional experience and service that went the extra mile! The servers and manager, Brian, went above and beyond to accommodate our large party and provide a top notch meal. We enjoyed everything from the signature Wagyu cooked atop the hot stone to caviar topped tuna tartar. Food quality was incredible as well as the pairings with champagne, nagori sake, and wine. Cannot say enough positive things about this dinner. We will most certainly return!

THE BEST

If you are looking for the most consistent place to eat seafood Nobu is your best choice. Jessica and John who manage this location are without a doubt the most professional duo in town. Quality and service with a great vibe although pricey the additional costs are well worth it!

Buzzy with good food but somewhat cookie cutter

By GourmandAus |

The formula is similar to Nobu establishments elsewhere, the scene is buzzing and very busy - the food was tasty, the service prompt and cheerful but the whole concept probably needs a rethink the vibe for the chain becoming somewhat of a cookie-cutter/conveyor belt akin to a fast food franchise.

Nothing special

Has a great name due to publicity by famous people but it is really nothing special with overpriced food. We had some starters which where ok and a tomahawk steak as main but it was really nothing special while the prices are really expensive.

Sashimi! Black Cod! Mushroom Salad!

By Oulisse |

Nobu at the corner of the entrance to the Gaslamp quarter! A crowdy place to be reached through the Hard Rock Hotel entry. The volume and loudness inside the restaurant does represent the average you should expect in the United States. Everybody must speak loud to be heard in the crowd. The result is noisy, it might not be the preferred place for a romantic dinner. However, the food, the sashimi, the fish and anything ordered from the menu was excellent and amazing, fresh, tasty and worth the visit. Some bottles of a red Newton from Sonoma - at a reasonable price - made a perfect match. The service took our order 15 minutes before 10pm (last orders, any restaurant kitchen in San Diego may close at 10:00???) and performed just-in-time, well presented, high quality, excellent, sweets could be ordered also later on. The dinner was worth the prices they charged! Recommended!

TURN THE MUSIC DOWN

An almost perfect dinner with my daughter Food fabulous service very good, wine perfect. But the music was way too loud, and I would reconsider going back just because of that, Manager needs to go.

Excellent food always

The food was amazing, every option is worth it. I recommend black cod with miso, kumamoto oysters, japanese red snapper with miso and snow crab sashimi. Service was a bit slow, although the restaurant was full and very busy.

Don’t come hungry… you’ll leave broke.

I enjoy good food and have no problem paying for it. But Nobu was downright insulting. The food was exquisite. No argument. But $46 for two bites of fish? Three if cut really miniscule. We had two appetizers (if you can call 10 pieces of edamame an appetizer) and two main courses, and after dinner went elsewhere to supplement with fish tacos because we were still hungry. The portion size is simply outrageous for the price. It’s not a question of if I can afford it or not- there’s absolutely no justification for these miniature portion sizes at these prices.
