Good food - terrible environment

By TexasPilot78218 |

Go if you want good food but you will NOT have a conversation - even with the person next to you, much less another couple at the table. Other than the napkin and the clothes you were there is not one soft surface anywhere in the room. The whole place is a cacophonous disaster of noise with every work echoing off large glass windows, granite surfaces, wood floors and walls. Add to that blaring "Italian" music - al la Volare-style! I have been to Italy more than 25 times - this is not an Osrteria as the name implies. A true Osteria is designed for food and friendship and family. Here you're an audience in the latest attempt at trendy in San Antonio. Nonna - you let atmosphere ruin the good meal!

Great food / Lackadaisical service

By Angie P |

The food and ambiance was lovely. The wine selection was fantastic!! They present themselves as a really fine restaurant, however, the wait staff needs training in how to actually pull that off. They were more obsessed with resetting empty tables rather than attending to the guests. They cleared our appetizer plates before the appetizers were finished (and didn’t clear those for another 5-10 min). We were sharing two bottles of wine among 5, which was going quite well with modest pours, but at the end, the waitress poured really heavy in only two glasses and just walked away... The timing was off and attentiveness wasn’t there. (For $20-30$ pasta plates and an on-site sommelier, i think it’s fair to anticipate a higher degree of service.) The pasta was fresh and the presentation of food was nice.

AMAZING!

By GeorgiaRed |

My colleagues and I went here at the recommendation of the concierge at the Hilton. It is so good. This is a northern Italian restaurant. They start the meal with this amazing bread. We shared a Caprese salad. It is served with fried mozzarella or you can get it with regular mozzarella. Yummy. It comes with traditional tomatoes and cheese but also a pesto sauce. Unique and very good. I had the gnocchi which was amazing. Portion size is good. Not too much but just enough. It is quite rich. They have gluten free pasta for those with a gluten allergy or intolerance. My colleague had the gluten free pasta and she said it was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant!

For a few hours, we were in northern Italy

This new restaurant by the very talented Chef Luca is just what the Fairmont Hotel needed; a world class restaurant to complement a world class boutique hotel. We've eaten at Nonna three times since it opened several months ago and each experience has been great. The Arancini reminded us of Rome; the pasta was fresh and full of flavor; the Polpi and potatoes were perfect, the butternut squash soup was delicious. Finally, the wine list is very good and well priced. The Sommelier is knowledgeable, friendly and ready to pick the perfect wine for your meal. Chef Luca has hit a home run.

So good, went 2 nights in a row!

Amazing authentic Northern Italian cuisine along with excellent service and a wonderful selection of wine. A very welcoming environment with nice white marble tables and warm lighting. They also have an excellent cocktail menu delivering well crafted cocktails. The menu offers something for everyone. Some standouts including the warm goat cheese appetizer and the Baratta. Any of the pastas are incredible especially the orzo with seafood.

Started and ended well.

Chose to spend our parents night out dinner at this new establishment in the Fairmont Hotel. Free valet parking, which is fortunate given there was a large event going on nearby that sucked up all the other public parking. We were promptly seated upon arrival. Service was pretty good throughout. Complimentary bread and olive spread was great! Octopus appetizer was pretty good, though didn't beat out some other local establishments octopus dishes. Can't go wrong with the Arancini. Starter cocktails were both great as well. The main courses were forgettable. Dessert was nice, as is the house made Lemoncello! Overall, a very good experience. May try a different main if/when we return.

Excellent food, reasonable

Excellent food, reasonable price for quality. Perfect sized portions for the Ribeye and carbonara. Highly recommend the octopus appetizer

A hidden gem

By Eugene O |

This restaurant didn't come up on any "top X restaurants in San Antonio" lists I looked at although it definitely should. The ambiance at the restaurant is understated but very tasteful, the service was very friendly, and the food is great. Everything I tried was great, and the drinks were outstanding. I'd especially recommend the branzino and tiramisu. This place is good for special occasions.

Another tourist trap that just doesn’t care

By STHoward84 |

Octopus was ridiculously salty, as was bolognese. Salad dressing was intensely sour and overwhelming. Apparently the restaurant doesn’t care because I now see that reviewers on this and the other site have already mentioned this issue on multiple occasions. I guess it doesn’t make much difference to them. Oh well...

As Good As Good Can Be

By Chuckles |

While visiting San Antonio with family members, we were taken to Nonna for a birthday celebration. Although the noise level was high on a Friday night, the energy helped make the evening special. Our server, Brooke, was superb. She accommodated all of our requests, and made us feel that we were special. The unique dinner offering that was presented was homemade pasta that had been laced with butter and fresh cheese and mixed in the cheese wheel, and then topped with shaved black truffles. This was absolutely unique. Additionally, the bronzino and the octopus were shared and enjoyed as main dishes. Our shared appetizers were just as special. The pollenta dessert was also great. Although adjoining a tourist district, this restaurant was anything that would be considered ordinary. The evening was special, as everything was excellent.

Perfect pasta meal!

By Stacey C |

Continued my husband’s birthday celebration here and was not disappointed. Both of our pasta meals (Bolognese and wild boar) were outstanding. The fresh pasta reminded us of Italy. We enjoyed our waiter, Mary, very much. She helped make the meal even more special. We had after diner drinks at the rooftop bar which was icing on the cake. Great views of downtown San Antonio. Will definitely be back.

A Great Journey to Northern Italy

By rusig96 |

From the moment I sat down until the check was brought to the table, every aspect of my meal was superb. An extremely upbeat, friendly staff that did an excellent job breaking down the menu and answering any questions. Everything from the pasta to the sauces are freshly made in-house and can be adjusted for any tastes or dietary needs. Began with fresh focaccia cubes with some shaved parmesan that was paired with a salty/sweet tapenade which is made with olive and anchovies. If you don't like anchovies, you may want to skip this, but it wasn't fishy at all and the saltiness cut the sweet depth of the olives. The caprese salad was fresh, vibrant and not heavy considering it includes fried fresh mozzarella. The pappardelle with wild boar was absolutely delicious, not remotely gamey, with a sauce that was creamy yet not overly rich. Can't say enough good things about this place. If you want fantastic Northern Italian in San Antonio, this is the place to go.

Nonna, Italian For "Never Again"

By The Old Chief |

The Fairmont Hotel is a San Antonio institution, highly regarded and enjoying a great reputation, so I had very high hopes for a quiet dinner for two in the Nonna Osteria. Sadly, I was profoundly disappointed. Where to start? Reception... with reservations getting seated took fifteen minutes. No excuse, just please wait. (That "Please Wait" was to become a recurring theme all evening.) Dining room; The 1950's called and want their diner back. Noise level absolutely OFF THE CHART; we had to ask the waiter to repeat everything two or three times to be understood, then had to literally YELL to place an order. Even our waiter complained about the noise level. Later, our dinner was interrupted mid-course for five minutes so a waiter could maneuver a child's stroller around our seating area. I was ignored when I asked why the stroller could not be left at reception and the child carried in to a high chair. Service: one word - Slow! Twenty minutes, that's TWENTY MINUTES to get a glass of water. Finally yell out our order for drinks, and wait. At last I get a thimble-sized Martini that, honest-to-God tasted like watered down Martini and Rossi. The Food: Starter dishes finally arrive. One was six croutons, (real croutons, one inch cubes of bread), and a few slivers of cheese. The other was a watery goat cheese and two slices of Melba toast. With that out of the way we finally yell out our dinner order and wait. And Wait. And Wait. Finally my pork chop and my wife's pasta arrive. That pork chop was so over cooked, dried out and tasteless I considered sending it back. My wife's Tagliatelle alla Bolognese was VERY dry (Too long under a heat lamp?). To make it edible she asked for additional sauce. A half-cup of very watery tomato sauce finally arrived, you guessed it, twenty minutes later. AND we were informed there would be a $15 surcharge for an additional serving. Wife said the pasta was still too dry to enjoy. BUT, the biggest insult was that there was NO BREAD! I ask you, who ever heard of an Italian restaurant that does not serve bread with dinner? A fundamental problem and an insult to Italian gastronomy. The bill: For all this dreadful food, drink, waiting, and service the bill for one martini, two glasses of wine, two appetizers, and two dinners (three if you count the additional half cup of spaghetti sauce) totaled almost $250.00, tip not included. Summation: With all the great restaurants in San Antonio you can do much, much better than this Never Again Osteria.

Taste of Northern Italy in San Antonio

A pleasant surprise right above River Walk. Was looking for a bite before flying out of SAT. Food was very tasty with great presentation and service. A little break from Tex-Mex on this business trip. Would come here again and recommend to friends and visitors

Great!

Lively and fun, cozy and delicious. We had excellent service and delightful menu choices. Would visit here often!

A little gem: delicious food and nice atmosphere

By WorldTraveller |

On a friend's suggestion, we enjoyed lunch at the cosy and quaint Nonna Osteria at the Fairmont Hotel in November 2024. My husband ordered lamb and I had spaghetti Bolognese. Both dishes exceeded our expectations and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The entire experience was peaceful and quiet: there were only two other tables filled at the restaurant - one single patron and a small family nearby. Staff were attentive and quick to answer questions and provided alternatives when the bar was not opened during the lunch hour. We were staying at the Grand Hyatt for business meetings and the food at Nonna Osteria was extraordinary compared to the options provided at our hotel.

We'd go again, and again and again!

My nine-year-old and I arrived at San Antonio looking for two things. Him pizza and me a beautiful steak. We walked around until we found something that looked promising. And promising it was! We started with a little bit of the large cubed toasted bread with pillowy parmesan cheese and a side of tapenade. My son ordered the Margarita pizza (the chef was kind enough to omit the basil for him.) I ordered the ribeye steak (medium rare with asparagus and truffle oil french fries with same pillowy airy shaved parmesan cheese. Our server recommended the chimichurri sauce, which had a bit of a kick to it. The cook on the steak was perfection. The fries I devoured, and the asparagus was seared to perfection. The chef was lovely and the staff as well. They were also very helpful with places we should visit while we were on our short visit. The establishment had a wonderful vibe, incredibly clean and worth every penny. I would go back to this restaurant on our next visit. The ambience transported me a bit after walking around for what seemed like forever. The location is inside the Fairmount Hotel and so worth the visit.

Underwhelming and overpriced

By Ken H |

Really underwhelming for the price. Better than Olive Garden I guess. Truffle pasta for $50 was plain over cooked and cold linguine…with a dusting of truffle. Pizza was HORRIBLE. I travel to Italy every year and this place is a disgrace to Italian food.

Great new dining addition

By christophermL2200SK |

A great new Italian restaurant for San Antonio. Relaxed but elegant experience with great Italian wine selection and perfectly cooked homemade pasta.

Very Good Food

By drdmromeo |

This restaurant offered friendly service and very good Italian food. We had a caprese salad, a mixed green salad, spaghetti bolognese, and a risotto dish with scallops. All were very good. The ambiance is lovely--it's attached to the Fairmont Hotel, and the restaurant has thousands of bottles of wine on display. It is a little bit pricey -- at least $60 for lunch.

The worst experience!

By Monica R |

We tried calling ahead for a table of 8 people over an hour before we arrived and the hostess told us we did not need a reservation. She said no problem we can accept you at any time. She didn’t take down our name, or our contact information and proceeded to tell us not to worry. Upon arrival 35 minutes later we were told their were no tables and the wait would be an hour and a half. Here we are at 8:42 an hour and 45 minutes later after checking multiple times with the stand to make sure they still knew we were here and there still wasn’t any table. Not a single manager came to check on us at any moment, the concierge at the front desk stayed seated the entire time(steps away from us), and the only person who was accommodating was the bartender. Even the valet was a complete and utter disaster. She was rude, rolled her eyes a lot and still couldn’t help herself to open a door for three older ladies in our group. The bartender was the only person with a smiling face, accommodating attitude and overall sense of service. We don’t understand why you have 4 $$$$ signs and you don’t have enough money to hire a front of house staff capable of running a floor plan. Extremely disorganized inefficient and overall a complete joke in comparison to other restaurants of your supposed caliber. We are here in San Antonio for the Texas Restaurant Association Marketplace and are extremely disappointed in your lack of service and tact. Even upon letting them know we were leaving and we were asking for a manger to say something! Anything! We were told that they would have to go search high and low for one. We will never ever return to eat at your establishment and we will be very open about anyone wanting to do so in the future. Including staying in your hotel to all of our clients from the state of Texas and beyond. I couldn’t imagine ever arriving to stay and being made to feel like we were just now, and expect to be taken care of. Just horrendous inexcusable lack of service. We will never ever be back.

Great food, attentive manager, must visit

By betihavebeenthere |

Nonna Osteria is located in the Fairmont Hotel, a short and easy walk from riverwalk and other downtown hotels. It is smaller restaurant so I highly recommend a reservation (unless you want to eat at 9pm). The restaurant has a small inside bar and the rooftop bar is now open also (cigar smoking is allowed). We arrived early for our reservation, and checked in with the hostess, before visiting the rooftop deck (the restaurant will text you when your table is ready). No wine or beer lists were printed/available, so knowing wine options was a little challenged. The bartender was unfriendly and not interested in helping us. We ordered one round of drinks before heading down to the inside bar, where we were able to see a drink list, the bartender answered questions, and we enjoyed another round of drinks. We were seated early for dinner, and the manager Matt was terrific and helped us pick a nice bottle of wine for dinner. Noona has a very nice wine list full of California and European wines. With Matt's help, we enjoyed a French wine we would have never otherwise tried. We ordered a few appetizers, salads and bolognese and had a terrific meal. Our waitress Leslie was attentative and took great care of us. While we didn't order it, the Granchio E Tartufo is served tableside inside a cheese wheel, which was fun to watch. The restaurant is very loud as others have mentioned. We had a table of 5 across the restaurant who were drinking a lot, and getting loud and we felt like we were sitting at their table due to the acoustics. Summary, make a reservation early, visit the rooftop bar for a nice view, be comfortable asking a wine recommendation, expect a louder meal than you are accustomed to, but get ready for a great meal.

Super dilicious!!

Wouldn't hesitate to eat here every day!! The octopus appetizer.. Main as veal, rissotto , shrimp pasta all are killing dishes ..

Wonderful meal!

By smherge |

If I could give it a 10 for tonight’s meal I would! I could make a meal off the two appetizers. Warm potatoes and octopus salad...wow! The caprese was unusual and delicious; mozzarella cheese lightly fried, with tomato wedges and delicious pesto. My wife had the lamb shank with risotto, I had veal scallopini w/carrots & fried cauliflower. A 2016 Rossi di Montalcino wine was the perfect accompaniment. The staff ( Beth & sommelier?) were friendly and attentive.

Excellent

Our evening here was outstanding. The service and attention were the best and everything we ordered was excellent- would definitely recommend.

We were in town for volleyball. Very nice restaurant with nice atmosphere. We ordered the goat cheese dish to start and it was yummy. My daughter ordered the gnocchi and smoked salmon. The gnocchi was a bit gummy and slimy, weird taste to it. I ordered a pasta dish with crab, it was cold and my noodles were al dente at best. We took both dishes back to hotel and they tasted so much better the next day warmed up, I overheated mine a bit to cook the pasta more.. We also ordered a veggie board and it was ok. It was close to closing and maybe everyone was ready to go, for the prices our food definitely could have been better. I probably wouldn’t visit again if in town.

Excellent Valentine dinner

Excellent Valentine dinner with friends. Great atmosphere with good wine list(all Italian). Red fish was excellent. Service was excellent.

Fantastic Food & Service

Food and service were fabulous and reasonably priced. We had the bolognese which was excellent. Salads were crisp and delicious. A great dining experience.

Birthday dinner!

By Michael F |

We had eaten at 2 other Silo properties and had heard good things about Nonna's. It did not disappoint! The food was outstanding. My favorite was the tableside Granchio E Tartufo. The pasta, brown butter, crab and freshly shaved summer truffle was a splurge, but well worth it! The staff was outstanding as well. My only complaint would be the noise. There was a large table seated on the other side of the restaurant, but we could hear them the whole time. It did not fit the small intimate feel of the interior of the restaurant.

New and Improved

By tomasso54 |

This was my second visit to Nonna's since it opened about four weeks ago and, I was pleasantly surprised to find my favorite sommelier, Fabian Jacob, had been added to their staff. Fabian is a compendium of knowledge of wine and always extremely helpful in finding a great wine for the occasion; this night was no different and we shared a delicious Barbera. The menu had changed a little in the past month, which I enjoy, with every dish we ordered, from antipasti to main courses, came well prepared and tasty. Chef Lucca - you did well - thanks!

Dinner with boss and colleagues

We all loved everything from the before dinner drinks, appetizer, entrees and dessert. absolutely delicious. Ciara was our server and steered us all perfectly with our selections.

Super kitchen in beautiful setting, only somewhat noisy

By Jan D |

Very well maintained, refined and authentic Italian cuisine. Good service, impressive wine list but incredibly loud hall. There may be no music, but the conversations from each table mean that there is constantly 85 DB in the restaurant and that you almost have to shout to your partner to understand each other. But to end on a positive note: incredibly tasty!

Best Italian Restaurant in San Antonio

By DavidMedinaPR |

I was very impressed by the quality of the service and food. I had such a good experience and delicious food that the following day I went again to share it with my daughter. For dinner I had lobster ravioli with pancetta. It was well balanced great combination of flavors. Amazing. It came accompanied by a wonderful wine. For the dessert I enjoyed a delicious Tiramisu. The best tiramisu I have ever eaten. Nonna at Fairmount hotel is my favorite Italian restaurant in San Antonio. Highly recommend.

The best Italian in Texas

By Jordan Antonovich |

We come here every time we’re in San Antonio for truly authentic Italian food. It’s the type of place you want to eat slow to savor every bite. The pasta is always perfectly cooked. The seafood is fresh. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and provides great service. The tiramisu here is hands down the best we’ve ever had. 10/10 highly recommend anything you order here is going to be amazing.

Special place in San Antonio

By CEO |

We had a memorable dinner at this restaurant. It is located in the Fairmont Hotel. Valet parking is free. Reception staff was pleasant and efficient. We were promptly seated as soon as she confirmed our reservation. The dining room is nicely decorated. The tables are well spaced. We started with meatballs and baked burrata. Both were well seasoned, not salty. Portions were just right. We enjoyed the arugula and beets salad with shrimps. Mains were Tartufo with crabmeat and truffles prepared tableside as well as beef filet. The beef was tasty, tender, and juicy. The tartufo was rich and creamy. The pasta was cooked al dente. The tiramisu was simply delicious. A nice finish to our meal. They have a nice selection of wines at various price points. Service was outstanding. Our wait staff introduced herself and offered water. She gave us ample time to get settled in and review the menu. We did not feel rushed. She cleared dishes as necessary and refilled water and wine glasses. We appreciate her recommendations. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Excellent

By MKChalli |

This was my first time to the restaurant. The location was great as I was staying at the Hilton Palacio, which is next to it. Everything about this place is high end: the ambiance, the food, the service, the drinks . . . the complimentary cheese bread and olive tapanade was great. I went with the recommended gnocchi. It was soft, tender, and cheesy, and just the right portion. It's a small place so be sure to make reservations though I was able to get in as I was on my own and went early before the dinner crowd.

Good food but pricey

By cyn_bear5875 |

I came here specifically for the Pasta E Tartufo. It was market price that night for $70. We love to eat out so price is never an issue. The food was good but not something i would try again in this restaurant. It wasn’t as cheesy as I thought it would be. The service was ok, our server wasn’t that friendly and it came out like she was having a bad day, so whatever. The restaurant is quite small so make sure you make an appointment.

Meat Sauce Very Skimpy

By JANIE T |

The restaurant was lovely and the service adequate, but my brother-in-law and I had the Bolognese and we had more noodles than meat sauce. The meat sauce was delicious, but for the money we should have had more to cover the noodles. My husband had the roasted chicken which came served over focaccia bread. He asked if he could have pasta instead. She never told him it would be a side order charge ($15). The pasta was served under the chicken like the focaccia would have been served. We did have the eggplant appetizer which was excellent. If I ever return, I’ll have that as my entree with a green salad.

Nonna Osteria Downtown - fantastic food and service

By Roy Hankins |

This place is great! The service is fantastic and the food is awesome. The manager went above and beyond when two of the wines we wanted were not available. He chose a fantastic one. Please do yourself a favor and eat their food! The anchovy and Kalamata olive spread - well you will want to be alone with it! Just saying!

No to Nonna’s New Year’s Eve

By Jane |

I organized my birthday dinner at Nonna’s New Year’s Eve. A friend had told me that with our set reservation, we could access the rooftop bar for the fireworks. I called Nonna’s and received confirmation that each person with a dinner reservation would have access to the rooftop as part of the reservation. When we were there, they denied us access. They changed the deal and told our group it would cost $50 per person. They were arrogant and rude. The service was extremely slow, but the food was good. I would never have booked Nonna’s with no access to the rooftop bar. I really didn’t appreciate the way I was treated. I would not spend New Year’s at Nonna’s again. I strongly advise against it!

Great food. Not very friendly

By Explorer043 |

We had dinner here last night. The food was outstanding. Unfortunately we were greeted by a bitchy, rude maitre de. I never understand why restaurants don’t get the fact that people form their opinion of their restaurant in about 30 seconds. Having the wrong people greet you after a long hot walk basically ruins what would have been a great dining experience. I would not go back there. Another good choice is the Battalion restaurant further down on the same street.

A New Favorite

By David M |

I used to stay annually at the hotel here, and I have seen a couple of restaurants come and go at this location. I always enjoyed staying at the Fairmont, so when I was back in town this week for a seminar,I was looking very much forward to eating here. I was really hoping it would be good, and man I was not disappointed. The food was great, and the service was impeccable. The interior was nice, and the glass freestanding wine racks were cool. The focaccia bread with grated parmesan that they started us with was heavenly. They brought us an accompanying olive tapenade as well as a separate olive oil for dipping. Our group of four shared a couple of appetizers- the octopus and the wild boar and thought they were amazing. For our main courses, we each chose something different, but we shared and tried each other’s plates. I had the pasta with bolognese and it was wonderful. My wife had the ribeye which was impeccable. One friend had the swordfish which was terrific. But, in my opinion, our other friend made the blue ribbon choice when he picked the braised rabbit served with dumplings. OMG! It was amazing! Italian comfort food at its best. There is no doubt what I will be ordering next time I go. The wine list is more than adequate and we had a very nice brunello. I can’t speak for their desert menu, as we were all too full to even contemplate a go at it. Before we left, we all decided we had a new favorite restaurant in San Antonio and we will definitely be back

Excellent food and service

By BlancaGB |

We had a very nice dinner at the outdoor patio. Social distancing is enforced, masks are required and worn by staff, hand sanitizer station, and the tables were spaced out. I ordered the the ribeye and my husband the sea bass, both were delicious. I would dine here on my next visit.

Yummy Italian food, speedy service

By Cee C |

It is a small restaurant, so you will need to book a table earlier in the day, or perhaps endure a 2 hour wait. Luckily for us our server told us the market price of the tagliatelle dish of the evening ($70)- which was rather hefty, so we stuck to the more reasonably priced tagliatelle with boar ($25) and the lamb shank risotto ($30). The lamb was rather rich, and the risotto was rather cheesy for my partner, so we switched 1/2 way. We did not eat dessert but there were some reasonably priced ($9) and yummy looking options- if you like tiramisu or sorbet for example. A huge wine selection- but read the prices carefully, and better yet, go in knowing the store price because a $75 store valued bottle was $500 on the wine list ;) Our server was good. The helpers (water, pepper) were quick. It was busy and noisy but we had a more secluded booth. The chairs are wood and do not have seat cushions- if that matters to you. Meal portions were filling. Although service was quick, we did not feel rushed. Enjoy!

Great place, good food, pricey

By Stephen L |

6 of us went for a birthday celebration and had a great time. We were not rushed at all and even though I had heard that it is noisy, we did not experience that at all. The server was very knowledgable about the menu and food preparation and made some really great suggestions. Great wine selection too. Everyone at our table tried something different and had only great things to say about the food. Portion sizes were just right.

Nice and quiet with great service and good food

By Chiili |

The restaurant is comfortable and quiet unlike so many other places. Our server was excellent and attentive. He made recommendations that were spot on. The salad verde was good and very large. The octopus was excellent. The gnocchi was outstanding. The wine list was also good. Would go back again.

Nice clean atmosphere, good food

By Barron B |

About two blocks off of the riverwalk inside the Fairmount Hotel is Nonna Osteria. We had reservations on a Sunday night and were seated immediately. There was a good crowd there. The restaurant had a very open feel to it with white marble tables and light wood chairs. Service was fine. The menu is not overly large so I am sure that helps them keep the quality up. There are gluten free options and I had a gluten free pizza, and the gluten free crust was good, but I have had better. My daughter had a regular pizza and it looked amazing. I had the Atomica pizza and boy was it hot. I know I should have known that from the name, lol. I had to remove the fresh jalapeno's but it was still pretty hot. I like the flavor though. The spicy sausage was a lot like a chorizo and very spicy. The wine list was almost all Italian and we ordered a Super Tuscan, but I found it disappointing with not enough fruit on the palate. I think it was the Yantra Terula Dei Sette Cieli, Toscana. I am not a wine expert, but I have been to Italy to drink wine and I am just going to say it was not my favorite. My wife had the Pappardelle Al Chighaile and she liked that dish. Overall I thought the experience was nice.

Pasta cooked to perfection!

By Becky N |

Food was delicious! I had a tagliatelle dish that was some of the best pasta I have ever had. Tender but not mushy. Perfect! The caprese salad looked beautiful and enough to share. We watched a giant wheel of parmesan go by our table on a cart on the way to a nearby table, with something steaming inside. Our waiter explained that it is a signature dish. I think they need to do more to promote this dish because it looked pretty impressive. They really need to offer some kind of "house wine." A small glass of wine is a minimum of $10-15 -- too much for lunch. I would have enjoyed some wine with my meal, but instead just had water. Too many restaurants do this. They price the wine so high, I just skip it and drink water for free. If Nonna wants to be authentic Italian, then perhaps they could offer a reasonably priced wine for everyday drinking. I've been to Italy, and pretty much everyplace offers good, inexpensive wine. But since that isn't an option here, enjoy the water at no charge with your choice of fresh citrus infusions.

Four excellent meals at this restaurant

By moudan |

During a business trip to San Antonio, I dined four times at Nonna. From my experience, it's the best restaurant in the downtown area. Food is delicious primarily northern Italian, with home-made pasta the highlights. Sauces were delicately flavored. Service was knowledgeable and prompt. Wine list was ample. Atmosphere was light and airy, and clean.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

By gmz374 |

The location is excellent, sufficiently off the main Riverwalk area. The food is excellent in it's preparation, quality and presentation. And, the service is excellent in their professionalism, poise, descriptions and ability to accommodate some food allergies. I'm from San Francisco, a foodie heaven. I feel Noona can stand up against some pretty heavy-hitters in S.F. and would do quite well. The menu is nicely varied. The quality of the ingredients is first-rate, painstakingly prepared, and artfully served. We had the cured meats for an appetizer and it came with very lightly friend pizza dough. It was delicious. For entrees we had, lobster ravioli, pasta with wild boar, and branzino. All of them well exceeded our expectations. The ravioli was flavorful. The wild boar had excellent pasta and a great ratio of pasta to wild boar. I was afraid they might skimp on the boar, but the portion was perfect. The branzino was amazing in that it was perfectly crispy on the outside but very moist on the inside. I want to know how they did it! Our waitperson, Faith, was amazing. It turns out her dad is a sous-chef at a sister restaurant, and she clearly grew up in the kitchen. She's young, probably in her early 20's, and was poised, knowledgable, well-versed in the menu and had a wonderful personality. I can see her managing the restaurant or owning her own someday! The desserts were excellent too. I had a chocolate budino and my friends shared a delightful lemon sorbet. The budino was first-rate. The sorbet was not a typical icy version but creamier, nearly like ice cream but it was definitely non-dairy. It was delicious. All in all the quality and value of this meal was outstanding for all the reasons I've mentioned. I look forward to visiting San Antonio again, and when I do, eating at Noona Osteria. I highly recommend it.

Bring on the Parmesan reggiano

By Mommsieofmo |

Start to finish everything we put in our mouth was excellent. Service was subpar - I should never have to fill my own wine glass but they redeemed themselves when they brought us fresh tomatoes after Granchio & Tartufo. Fantastic dish and definitely go for the truffles but needs a finisher and the tomatoes were perfect.

Great Italian dinner

By Monte S |

Went with 7 colleagues to take a break from a local conference. The restaurant is a nice intimate setting with beautiful marbles for the table tops. All of the entrees and appetizers received high praises. Some of the dishes were the wild boar, rabbit, pizza and shrimp dishes. The olive spread that comes with the bread is delicious and addictive. The food is prepared wonderfully and is spot on.

Favorite meal in San Antonio

By Kari |

We had a group of 4 and decided to order lots of options and eat family style. Kaylee was our server and she made some wonderful recommendations. We loved the Octopus appetizer and the Burrata. For the main courses we loved Granchio & Tartufo it was amazing but very rich so it was great for sharing. We also loved the Gnocchi with Salmon. Save room for dessert - the cake with blueberries and caramel was incredible. This was our favorite meal in San Antonio.

Really enjoyed dinner

By newyorker88 |

You can tell that there is care in the kitchen here. Even the free appetizers were done with care. Pastas were tasty. Room is nice with open kitchen. Definitely worth a try!

Great place and ambience. Food was great. Went there for dinner and took the open patio as the weather was nice. Entrance at the Fairmont hotel side.

San Antonio doing Italian right!

By FellowTraveler14380 |

The restaurant is beautiful, contemporary. The service is attentive. The food is outstanding! The fresh toasted cheesy croutons and the olive tempenade and to die for. Even water is made special, with an offering of slices cucumber, lemon, lime and grapefruit to add. My husband was blown away by the Bolognese. I had the Parparadelli with wild boar.-amazing! Perfectly cooked pasta and the boar melted in your mouth. We finished our dinner sharing the budino for dessert. So rich and chocolatey. Tutto è delizioso

Pasta!

We had a great dinner at Nonna Osteria 1604 on our first night in San Antonio, Tx. Reception staff was warm and friendly. He confirmed our reservation and promptly showed us to our table. Wait staff introduced herself as soon as we were seated. She handed out menus and offered water. And explained the menu after we had a few minutes to get settled in. House specialty cocktails were well made with fresh ingredients and generous amount of alcohol. Wine list was extensive enough to meet different tastes and budgets. We enjoyed our green salad, fried cauliflower and octopus. Pasta dish was Tartufo prepared tableside. We had meatballs and pork belly to go with the pasta. Desserts were excellent as well. Service was outstanding. Jailene was warm, pleasant and attentive. She cleared dishes and topped up wine and water glasses as needed. She also made good recommendations. Overall a great place for Northetn Italian cuisine.

Delicious!!!!

By Elsa M |

Absolutely recommended!!! Everything we tried was more than good!!!! I had as a main course, the Branzino and It was deliciously well presented. The place is very, very nice . The only bad thing that we found was the acoustics... the noise is really bad, but it can be fixed... The rest was very good. Good service, good food, the price was reasonable and the wine list impressive. We will go back for sure!

Wonderful gem downtown

This was our first visit and we loved it! We ate on the patio and it was delightful. Great wine menu and the food was delightful. Not a large menu, but what we had was wonderful. The service was excellent as well. We will be back!

All-round excellence

By AllanJGJ |

If you're la tourist in the Great State of Texas looking for a change from Mexican, Tex-Mex, burgers and barbecue, then this might be the answer. We've eaten at many, many restaurants in Italy where the food was nowhere near as good. Our pasta dishes were definitely al dente (I suspect the pasta might be made on the premises): shrimp spaghetti and wild boar pappardelle; both excellent, as was our Tiramisu. Interesting wine list, an attentive server and an elegant dining room made for the complete package. I notice a number of reviewers commented on the bad acoustics - we sat in a booth by the windows and had no problem, so you might try and do the same.

Dinner with friends

By sagumdr |

Had a wonderful dinner with friends at Nonnas in the Fairmount Hotel. The venue is pleasant and the food was very good. Service was a bit slow but it was a busy night. Our server was friendly and helpful. After dinner, I suggest taking the elevator to the 4th floor bar and balcony that overlooks downtown. It’s a great place to relax before going home. Also, take advantage of the valet parking at the hotel so you don’t have to look for a parking spot.

Saturday lunch

By Mark O |

Fabulous meal at Nonna again. We know I am going to over order, but its impossible to choose so you get leftovers!! Started with yummy bread and oil, then ordered the parmigiana and the cannellini mousse for our appetizers. Both very good. It’s hard for me to pass up burrata but I was happy with these choices too! The pasta dishes were amazing. We had the polipo and tonno and the cinghiale. I have had the octopus appetizer but this is even better! Perfectly cooked octopus combined with some olives and capers and awesome pasta. And then topped with a scoop of tuna tartare. So good! But the wild boar might be even better. So tender and tasty! Also with a great sauce over amazing pappardelle. Then we were crazy enough to order tiramisu. We finished it all, but not that day!! Photos don’t do the food justice. Great service too!

Pasta Palace in the Alamo City

By Richard G |

We returned to Nonna to celebrate a birthday. The dining area has a modern decor off the lobby to the Fairmount Hotel, with a window to the street . Service is attentive but not intrusive. The menu concentrates on pastas, although there are a few "seconds" available. We shared an excellent caprese fritta, delicate and tasty. Then we had two different pasta dishes that were superb-just like dining in Italy! The wine list included a generous number of excellent wines avaialbe by the glass-something not often found. We were provided a complimentary desert which was tasty. Espresso was excellent. All in all, an excellent meal.

Exceptional Food. Service was off

By Traveler621414 |

We went to Nonna’s twice, both during the lunch hour. The food was exceptional, however, the service was off both times. It was not particularly busy both times, so it was puzzling. Next time we will come in the evening.

Excellent Food and Service

By BluePlate-Now |

Excellent Italian food! The bread and tapenade that is brought to the table is fantastic. We had a cheese and meat board and the caprese salad as appetizers and all we great and finished. The Pappardelle Al Cinghiale (Wild Boar) and the Lobster Ravioli were fresh made pasta and dressed perfectly. Great wine choices and dessert. Topped off with great service made for an excellent time. Give it a tray!

Unbelievably Good Italian in San Antonio

By Leonard L |

I was in San Antonio for a convention last month. We were heading over to a well regarded Italian restaurant on the Riverwalk but they were closed for a private party. We took a chance going to this slightly out of the way place not on the Riverwalk. We were really glad we did. Great atmosphere and fantastic food. Not at all what I expected in San Antonio. Next time I'm in town I'm staying at the Fairmont Hotel which houses the restaurant. Go!

Excellent Italian food and top notch service!

By George M |

We enjoyed this place so much, we ate there 2x in a week. Their octopus and tuna tartar spaghetti is excellent. So too is their veal scallopini.

Lovely dinner

By Jean d Boscs |

Most restaurants in San Antonio are either closed or don’t have enough tables outside. By chance, we stumbled upon this gem hidden in the downtown area and... WOW... I’ve had many great experiences at Italian restaurants and this one is in the top 5! The decor is sumptuous. Our server couldn’t have been better, truly (Rylan I think). The food is delicious! We had pasta dishes and all were amazing. The tiramisu at the end was the icing on the cake. The restaurant has a great variety of wines and the prices aren’t too high for the quality you get. Really amazed! And no, the restaurant does not have an outside area but talk about social distancing!!! I had never seen tables as spaced out in another restaurant during the pandemic, truly remarkable! You feel welcomed and safe!!! Highly recommend!!

Great Italian Food.

By buffaloroam |

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel.. looking for some place different.. we had enough of Mexican food ... and what a FIND this place was.. It is small and can be noisy ..but sure was a fun night.. I was with 2 grandchildren and they also loved this place.. We were lucky enough to have Mary as our server and what a terrific asset she is to Nonna's... We started out with the Bread.. OMG.. it is so good with the oil.. I think the kids cleaned out the restaurant, they could not stop eating it.. We all got a pasta dish and they were all very very good.. They make a great drink and love the wine glasses they have..

Great addition to downtown restaurants

By Claiborne G |

Have been to Nonna's four times. In a word: Excellent. First, if you can, get Logan as your waiter. A real professional, who will make your experience even better. Second, the bread that they bring to the table, with an olive tapinade, is sensational!! Just don't eat too much of it or you will be full too quickly. Third, I have had, as an appetizer, the polipo, each meal (lunch and dinner), and it gets better each time. A generous portion of octopus paired with delicious potatoes. The eggplant is really good as well, but there is a lot of it (not complaining). The Devil pizza is good, but not great. For entrees, the shrimp limone is delicious and should not be missed. My son loved the branzino. For a local, Nonnas is a great addition to downtown, and I'm looking forward to the opening of the oyster bar on the roof later this year. I do wish there had been some California white and red wines on the wine list as I am not particularly knowledgeable regarding Italian wines.

Vibrant Place Downtown

By 24hrtrippers |

Nonna Osteria is certainly a lively restaurant with outstanding service at every corner. Selections are broad and favorite dish of the night for our group was the pasta and boar. The butternut squash soup was a close second with delightful house salads. The charm of the night still rests with Silo rooftop bar atmosphere that you must do at this Fairmount hotel. Noise level and food perfection is only reason it cannot catch Silo Oyster bar on I-10 West. Cheers, J&L

Amazing food and service!

By Ed K |

Great Italian! We’ve been multiple times and it’s all good: steak, pasta, etc. Andrea is the most awesome server. Food is perfect. We are regulars.

The best Italian food we ever had.

By roadhand2017 |

Been there twice and going back in two weeks. Service was great, had a nice visit with the chef and the food was out of sight. The pasta was thin, light and so tasty and the sauces were so light and had multi flavors. The beef and fish were cooked exactly right and the portions were not overwhelming. Reservations recommended.

Both Food and Service Shine

By Michael D |

Located at the Fairmount Hotel in downtown San Antonio, this new restaurant is worthy of the recent hype. Our entire family of four adults and five children (all under the age of 8) had dinner here near Christmas 2017. Our waitress, Terra/Terri (spelling?) was one of the best we've ever had. She knew how to serve a table with young children (lots of napkins, extra plates, spoons are better than forks, divided a single-order dish into several plates, bread out early and often to calm hungry kids, etc). Highly recommend that if you're coming here for a family dinner, request her as your waitress and be sure to tip her well. Aside from the beautiful interior and excellent service, the food was the star of the night. Everything was served quickly and pipping hot. Our kids are adventurous eaters, so we decided to try the Polipo E Patate (Octopus & Potato Salad with a Basil Aioli - $8) and the Insacatti & Scugnizzi (assorted meats and fried bread - $14) for the table. The kids LOVED it all ! The octopus was served slightly warm, excellent flavor and tender (it can be chewy). All of the assorted meats had great flavor, although for $14, I would have liked a little more of each type. Between the eight of us, we tried: Gnocchi Di Nonna (Rabbit - $18) - tender rabbit, great braised flavor, gnocchi was hot and sticky. Great comfort-food feel Tagliolini Al Ragu (Bolognese - $20) - The kids split this...and they loved it. Again, perfectly cooked pasta and a great comfort dish Papperadelle Al Cinghiale (Braised wild boar - $20) - Only tried a bit or two of this, but similar qualities to the braised rabbit dish. The wild board flavor was not overpowering Ravioli Con L'Aragosta (Lobster Ravioli - $29) - This was the only dish of the night that didn't wow us. It was good, but nothing special in it set it apart from most other good lobster ravioli. Risotto A Nero (Fried calamari and black squid ink risotto w/ shrimp bisque - $24) - This reads like an elevated, Italian shrimp and grits - which it was not. At face value, you want the crispy batter from the fried calamari to come through, which it didn't in all the sticky rice. When that didn't work, you wanted maybe the shrimp and rice to taste a little like shrimp and grits, but the squid ink in the risotto added an odd texture to the dish.Good, but wouldn't order this again. Pasta E Tartufo (Parmesan pasta w/ shaved black truffles - $market price) - Excellent and a show to boot. They toss the pasta in a large Parmesan cheese wheel right next to your table. Then they cover your plate with black truffle shavings. Rich dish, but the portions weren't too much that you were sick of it at the end. Overall, an excellent restaurant, food and service for a special family occasion or an upscale date night for two!

Classic Italian cuisine in an elegant setting

By Curtis S |

Looking for an Italian place during our long weekend in San Antonio, TripAdvisor suggested Nonna. Accessed through a hotel entrance, a wine bottle-filled hallway leads to a smallish dining room, filled with white linen tables. The wine list is filled with mostly Italian vintages (duh) and there are plenty of by-the-glass options. The menu isn’t extensive, but there’s plenty of variety. We started with a goat cheese appetizer, leading to lobster ravioli and gnocchi with sausage for entrees. Dessert was an Italian take on a chocolate trifle. Espresso and limoncello rounded out the meal. Very good food and service. Recommended

Italian at its best

By Michael C |

Great food and our server, Sam, was amazing! It started with an amazing complementary focaccia with olive tapenade that was the bomb. The Burrata appetizer was baked with a puttanesca sauce which was a first for me and delicious. I had the Tartufo as my main and was tossed in a large Parmesan wheel at the table. Superb. It gets a little noisy but all else was excellent.

Fantastic Dishes Pricey Overall

By ankh1 |

Dinner for 4 here last night, a Saturday so reservations a few days ahead were necessary. White tablecloths, sommelier, no beers on tap and a rather pricey wine list but the food was fantastic. I’m a sucker for risotto and wasn’t disappointed here. Lobster Ravioli was also great. Their signature dish, Granchio &Tartufo where they mix the warmed homemade pasta into a huge Parmesan cheese wheel is quite delicious, meant for 2 people and at $70 a tad pricey. I guess you can summarize our experience with the words excellent and expensive. The excellent rules, however.

Great food and service

By Eric S |

We were in San Antonio for a long weekend and were told we had to try this place. It did not disappoint. The staff is very knowledgable about the wine list as well as they food they are serving. I would make a reservation, we went on a Thursday and it was packed all night!

Unethical Policy

By San Antonio Resident |

My wife and I went there for her birthday. We ordered an item that was market price and neglected to ask what the price was. I was astonished when the bill arrived And the price if the item was about twice the price of the highest priced entree. Both the server and the manager told me that their policy is to not disclose market price unless the customer asks. Be warned!!!!!!!!!!

Over the top charm, service and food!

By AnnaDeMarco1958 |

Beautiful historic building and lovely restaurant. They first brought us some fresh bread with a fabulous olive tapenade which was soon devoured. We then shared the tender beautifully flavored Gnocchi and also the Bolognese dish which was rich and flavorful. We were told the chef was from Italy and could tell this was authentic cuisine made with quality ingredients. Our waiter Joe provided the most amazing service. This was our most memorable meal in the 4 days we spent in San Antonio.

Lovely and Authentic!

By Anne G |

This is authentic Italian eating at its best. Enjoy exceptional appetizers, fine wines, fabulous pasta dishes and main dishes. Located in the historic Fairmount Hotel, you'll find that service is excellent, and careful attention to preparation is evident in every dish served at this charming spot.

High quality food with great service

By Katie D |

We went there for our first dinner in San Antonio. It was Halloween, but we had no problem being seated without reservation. We loved it so much we went there again next evening. Menu is changing on a daily basis but some dishes are there to try every time you are there. Burrata with grilled vegetables and baked beets was our choice for antipasti for both days in a row. Delicious!! Butternut Squash soup was my mom's favorite. Since we had our 7 year old son with us, he wanted pasta Bolognese and was so happy with the quality of this dish he ordered it next day and wanted nothing but that. Doesn't matter what choice you make in this restaurant, rest assured it will meet your expectations. From now on we have our favorite Italian restaurant in San Antonio.

Great Dining Experience

By TexasSal |

We had dinner here for the first time this past weekend. We started the evening at the roof top bar to have a cocktail. It was a little chilly but they had heaters (the heaters did not provide much heat but that is my only complaint). The dining room is very inviting and cozy. The size of the room is a smaller size, not noisy and conducive for a nice conversation with dining companions. Other reviews I had read said the restaurant was very loud but that was not our experience. The food was delicious and we had a delightful evening.

Expensive salted dishes

By Guillaume |

We went to this restaurant because we wanted to pastas cooked in the parmesan, but we immediately found out that this dish is $70, which is RIDICULOUS! I know this dish and had it a couple of times in Europe and I paid around $25. So we decided to order: - lobster ravioli. It was good, a little bit too salted, but $29 for 6 raviolis sound expensive. - carbonara. This dishes was simply over salted, and the lardon were mainly fat, barely a little of meat inside. However, the service was really good.

Awesome Italian in San Antonio

By Holly O |

I was pleasantly surprised at the outstanding cuisine at Nonna's. We starte off with little cubes of toasted garlic bread and a tasty dipping sauce. We shared the fried capresse salad and the salad verde both well prepared and tasty. I ordered the lobster ravioli, with panceta and tomatoes, absolutely excellent. The ravioli was thin and the sauce was delicate. I am very fussy about lobster ravs and crabcakes. I was not disapointed. Two of my friend had the halibut with roasted veggies well prepared, delicate and not overcooked. My other friend had lamb shank with orzo also excellent. The service was great. It was alittle loud, but the food made up for it.

Bad experience

By Cruiser02443653291 |

The food terrible, bad taste, very expensive and the waitress so rude, I don’t recommend actually the restaurant was empty

Great service the food was amazing, great Italian wine selection and great location near river walk Ask for the diavola pizza and the pesce spada

Excellent food here.

The food here was excellent. The parmigiana was very tasty and fresh. The rabbit with gnocchi was super and was the lobster ravioli. To finish the budino was perfect.

Tourist trap with sparkle

By Ktw515 |

The bar on top has a lovely view. The g&t was flat. Service non existent until my cute young trendy guests arrived. Guess old ladies aren’t worth the bother. Restaurant had lovely service. The food was terrible. All of the pasta was out of the box. The carbonara was Alfredo sauce with burnt bacon. Pretty much a bust. The soup was way salty. Despite the dropped dishes and spilt wine management never said they were sorry. Wine pours were extremely short. All in all our group was loads of fun but restaurant was a bust. Servers worked really hard and were sweet. Food was terrible. Management was indifferent. As a local I won’t go back. If you visiting go some place else.

very loud dining room and food was average

By lisa s |

While this is a beautful space, the lack of any acoustic tiles or carpets makes it almost impossible to have a conversation at your table. I love a lively, bustling restaurant and it certainly had that feel but was just to loud. The service was excellent and the wine and beverage list very good. Unfortunately, the food was lackluster. We started with the arancini which lacked flavor and salt. I had the lobster ravioli, which was recommended by our server, some ravioli were so al dente they were hard on the edges. My companion had the pappardelle with wild boar, the boar was well prepared but again nothing spectacular.

Disappointing

By Seth R |

This restaurant was recommended by a local to be a "special occasion" type of place; sadly, it was the only place we went to during our 4-day visit that we felt strongly enough to provide negative feedback. he place is indeed loud, like others have noted, but that was not a factor in our feedback. It was not crowded in the least and I kept trying to show them grace during these difficult times for restaurants but the lack of so much finally just frustrated us. Service was very slow from drinks to arrival of food; for example, mixed drinks at the beginning took just over 20 min to obtain. All three meals were only partially completed with no request for a box. The food was not horrible, just blah. Actually, all this would be somewhat overlooked with a great server but she was just not into it and barely paid us any attention and could be seen largely talking off to the side. There was another server that would occasionally give us water but that was the only positive aspect about the service. We were dressed nice but there was definitely a snobbish air to the attitude of the waitress and the "sommelier/host." That is inexcusable. The bartender for the bar outside the restaurant was very friendly, and professional.

Group business dinner

By Rockawaygirl |

We had a reservation for a group of 11. Service was very courteous, if initially a little slow. The appetizers were phenomenal (we had the burrata, goat cheese, and arancini). I was not as impressed with my entree, which was a pasta dish with crab meat from the specials list. It was fine but did not stand out as anything special. Several people in my group had fish and commented that it was great. The server patiently split the check 11 ways and did not appear at all irritated, for which she deserves kudos (and we tipped her well). As others have said, this restaurant is very noisy and it is hard to carry on conversations across a table. My voice was hoarse by the time we left. It was also quite humid inside, which made it less than a five star experience. It was a very warm and sticky evening, but they need to look into indoor humidity control; several of us were uncomfortable, which is not really what you expect for a meal that comes out to about $70 per person.

Great food and wine selection

By ScubaDyver |

Stylish Italian restaurant with an interesting menu and varied wine list. Great service. We explored the full menu, and were very pleased with appetizers, pasta, and desserts. Very good service, friendly, informative, and helpful. Great champagee selection, well priced. Restaurant has good valet parking, so no downtown parking hassles. An excellent night out .......

Great food

By Laurence |

Dinner with friends, four of us. Nonna Osteria is located in the Historic Fairmont hôtel, they provide free Valet parking when eating at the restaurant. We shared 3 antipasti, the Arancini was amazing, the Tomini al Verde - the goat cheese was baked perfectly, light and airy, and the Parmigiana - it was just a amazing as the other two. For our main course we all opted for pasta dishes. My husband had the Bolognese, which came just the way he likes it with angle hair pasta, fresh bolognese sauce was phenomenal. I had the Gnocchi, they were light and fluffy the best I have ever had and the rabbit was cooked to perfection. One of our friends had the Risotto Ai Gamberetti, delicious! Our other friend had the Conchiglie Alla Cabonara, the sauce was phenomenal. We all enjoyed everything we ordered and wil be going back. Thank you Nonna Osteria for a wonderful night.

Nice

By María |

Beautiful place, nice decoration, very tidy staff, they welcome you with a variety of citrus for your water and a delicious focaccia with olive oil, waiters were always ready and nearby to fill my glass. Pizza was good but for personal reasons I didn’t like the pesto paste. (I don’t like cold pastas) even though I loved that the waitress grated fresh Parmesan in my food, and at the end the tiramisu was delicious.

Great place to share food and friendship

By Gary B |

I have been to Nonna three times since they opened and have never been disappointed with the great selections and the atmosphere. Sometimes in the evening, the service can be slow but when with a group of friends, we weren’t annoyed and enjoyed the wine. The portions are moderate in size but still good to share. Don’t miss the Risotto Al Negro, Gnocchi Di Nonna plus a vast selection of wines Prices for dinner are in the $75 per person range.

Delicious!

By Kamilla M |

Really delicious food! We had their Insaccati for starter to share, and a margherita pizza and pasta bolognese for main course. Especially the bolognese was delicious! They served some really good bread and olive dip while we were waiting for our food.

Dreamy pasta!

Popped in for a bite Sunday afternoon...excellent service, nice wine list, the pasta...gnocchi are light little pillows of deliciousness!

Outstanding Culinary Experience

By mipps1 |

If you are a fan of the elevated dining experiences of the Silo restaurants, then run do not walk to Nonna’s at the historic Fairmont Hotel less you find yourself unable to get a table. It’s a beautiful thing when great service and outstanding food come together. Now add a historic location and you have dining nirvana. Okay, we don’t speak Italian so we don’t understand everything on the menu but no worries, capable and knowledgeable staff translate both the food and wine menus making the experience very approachable. AND the food is fabulous. If you are downtown, skip the chains and enjoy an authentic experience in an unique hotel - google the Fairmont for a fun read.

Amazing food and atmosphere!

By Steveb |

Amazing food and atmosphere, beautifully designed and decorated restaurant with amazing food and service! Had the margarita pizza which was excellent! Started off our meal with complimentary bread which was the best we have ever had! Just amazing!

Not bad, not disappointing

By Davigeta |

This is a nice restaurant, fancy and elegant. We were able to get a table quickly, though the place was busy. However, there were problems. Service was friendly but slow. It took a very long time for us to get a soup and a salad. Those were pretty good. My wife had the eggplant parmesan appetizer for dinner, and I had the spaghetti bolognese. My dish was ok, but definitely not special (Pasta Bella in Fredericksburg is where we ate the night before, much better pasta). The eggplant parmesan was not breaded, and had a top layer of burnt cheese! The eggplant itself was ok. So, it least for us tonight, not worth it.

Fantastic New Italian Restaurant

By smherge |

We have been wanting to visit Nonna’s ever since it opened at the Fairmont Hotel, and finally went there for Restaurant Week. We were not disappointed! The service was impeccable. Our server, Leslie was efficient, friendly and helpful. She recommended a Sicilian wine that was perfect with our meals. The complimentary bread and tapenade was a delicious way to start the meal. My wife had the bolognese, I had the gnocchi with wild boar, our friend had a pizza. All were delicious. We are anxious to return!

New Italian restaurant downtown!

By Ellen W |

We were pleasantly surprised to see Ingrid our favorite person in charge there. However the food left us with a so so experience. The pizza was great but t the pork chop was an embarrassment for the restaurant. It was so thin and chewy like a piece of leather. The fish was tasty but the Tiramisu was really thick and surprisingly disappointing. We had a satisfactory experience there but hopefully it will improve with time.

Great Italian Fare

By Foodie |

Second time visiting Nonna in the last couple of months and it is amazing, can’t get enough of their Cheese wheel pasta with truffle!! A little on the expensive side but totally worth it. Good wine list(all Italian wines. Will definitely be back!

Great to have another excellent restaurant at the Fairmont.

By nysatx |

There have been a number of wonderful restaurants at the Fairmont Hotel over the years, and this is another one. This is not an expansive menu, but everything is well thought out. The Caprese salad is a clever twist on the usual. The cheese is lightly breaded and barely fried, making it soft and gooey, and there is pesto rather than chopped basil with the heirloom tomatoes. Molto bene! Everyone was pleased with their entrees, which included the gnocchi with rabbit (very rich), the pasta with pesto sauce, and the lobster ravioli. The wines are all Italian, but you can also order wine from the Silo Prime menu, which includes American wine. Service was superior! Our only problem was that the delicious bread with black olive tapenade was too salty (I ate it anyway). Prices were surprisingly reasonable. We will go again!

My Favorite Restaurant in San Antonio

By Rferg8934 |

We ate here the last night of our trip and had the best meal of the week. Even better than the food was the service. Our waiter was kind and attentive. He made wonderful recommendations for wines and food. Everything from the appetizers to the dessert was perfect. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

Outstanding food, service

By Travelaandd |

Outstanding food, service and cocktails! We visited San Antonio for a long weekend getaway and Nonna’s Osteria was our last restaurant there. It far exceeded the others and we had some nice dinners on this trip. It was my birthday so I splurged... started with an amazing carrot soup and had the fettuccine with crab, parma and black truffles. The cheese and truffles are done table side and they don’t skimp! It was crazy rich but so good! It’s a very small restaurant so be sure to make a reservation.

1604 Location

By anderson213 |

Wonderful dinner. We started with the arancini. We loved it. But, the star of the night was the gnocchi with wild boar. Incredible dish! I've had gnocchi many times and in various metropolitan cities. This was the best gnocchi dish that I ever had. However, the orzo--shrimp, and salmon also needs to be highly praised. And, the tiramisu was a good way to end the night.--With that said, our waiter was the best--friendly, knowledgeable about the food and San Antonio, and was on top of everything throughout the service. Great evening.

Wonderful Italian restaurant!!!

We started off with the Arancini, eggplant Parmigiana and the Caprese salad. All the appetizers were great, never had fried mozzarella with Caprese before but it was excellent. Pasta dishes were also good.

Stopped for a celebratory dinner. Not particularly busy. Service by Dayna was excellent. For such a nice restaurant the blue jeans under the aprons was a bit odd. The bread with olive spread was fabulous. Caprese salad was excellent. Extensive wine list was available, but very little on the lower end of the price range. The ribeye was substantial and cooked to order. The market priced tartufo was also very good. I was not impressed by the lobster ravioli. The sauce lacked character and the bacon took away from the lobster. The tiramisu was outstanding. Prices were on the high end.

Fantastic Italian Dining the way it should be!

Business dinner, found this place on Yelp. We didn't have a reservation but they had a cancellation so it worked out. Pretty restaurant. Nice menu. Very good service. I had the butternut squash soup and it was delicious. They gave us time between courses so that is nice. Bathroom is down a flight of stairs, so be advised about that. But I would definitely return!

Excellent Restaurant and Good Wine List

By Doug G |

We went twice during our few days in San Antonio. The salads are great and the pastas are excellent (try the one with the truffles). The wine list (the other wine list) had some gems and we enjoyed some Caymus Special Select and some Kathryn Hall wines which were amazing. Super restaurant just a little way from the River Walk

Amazing food! Soooo good!

Amazing food! Haven’t had a bad appetizer or entree yet. The bread is amazing. The eggplant appetizer is the best. Steak and snapper are very good. Ask for Andrea, who’s the best server ever! Secret - have a drink on the rooftop before or after dinner.

From scratch w/artistic presentation

Enjoyed ‘dining’ in establishment. The portions were well-thought out and tastes of Italy 🇮🇹 were creative. Pasta 🍝 made from scratch. Atmosphere was simplistic & waiter was attentive. Casual attire acceptable. Easy to locate, on corner. We had two pasta dishes & two different salads and 🍷

Awesome

Everything was perfect, to be honest, there is no words to describe how good and delicious was everything.

Say yes to Nonna!

By sdfincomic |

We live downtown San Antonio and eat out a lot. Tonight we tried Nonna Osteria and enjoyed it a lot. Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The butternut squash soup was amazing. The lobster ravioli was very good although the portion was a bit small for $29. Will definitely go back and try one of their pizzas. Although Nonna was very good and we will visit again, it does not yet make our top 5 for restaurants downtown.

A good Italian restaurant, good location

By Gabriel H |

Part of the Fairmont hotel, this popular and noisy Italian trattoria offers a number of traditional Italian fare, along with other, not so common dishes. The interior is quite reminiscent of many other trattorias in Italy, with an opening to the kitchen on one side. The wines are displayed behind a glass wall and there is a reasonable selection of (mostly Italian) wines, representative of most wine-producing areas of the country. Service was good, although the place was packed when we visited and the servers were busy. The food was of uneven quality. The grilled octopus was not cleaned appropriately, so it still had stones inside the suckers. The Burrata was delicious, but was served as a huge plate with lots of other, mostly vegetable components. For an appetizer, it was too much. The Caprese was different, with fried components. Interesting, but heavier than the original Caprese. The Pappardelle all Cinghiale was delicious! The octopus entree was much better than the appetizer. Some of the wines (the Fiano, specifically) were mediocre. The Arneis was delicious, as was the Vino Nobile. The main issue was a larger table behind us, with very loud people, each trying to out-yell the others. That made our time at Nonna much less pleasant, since conversation became impossible. Overall, a good experience, that could have been better in a quieter environment and more uniform quality of food and wine.

New favorite downtown restaurant

By Artbypatti |

Let me start off with some history. Back in the heyday of the historic hotel, I actually worked here as the FO manager. The restaurant and hotel was the gem of the city. The hotel is about to undergo a huge renovation. Yay! The restaurant...omg...loved, loved, loved! There are two. Silos extension of their brand...a steak house, which we have not tried yet and Nonna’s Osteria, an Authentic Italian restaurant. The ambience is lovely. Open, light, fresh. The service impeccable. The food was extraordinary and delicious. We truly had an overall great dining experience. I would highly not only recommend this to travelers but to locals. It won’t disappoint. The wine list is great.

Outstanding Food

By Renee S |

This place is outstanding, in both food and service. We started with a unique caprese salad that is a notch above most. It has ripe roasted tomatoes and fried mozzarella with a delicious basil sauce. My husband had a wonderful pizza with nice crispy crust. I had the best gnocchi ever, truly amazing in flavor and texture. Our waiter, Josh, was very attentive. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant.

Great Italian food

By DonnaFB |

We dined here while visiting SA. Let me say we have been to Italy 3 times and I am a pretty good Italian cook so I am picky about my Italian food. The restaurant is very well decorated, white subway tile, clean and fresh with black booths etc. First our server Beth was excellent, she gave us time to enjoy a pre dinner cocktail which both were very well made and inventive. I ordered the insalata which was light with dressing and fresh grated Parmesan cheese, simple but delicious. I ordered the wild boar Bolognese and my husband the carbonara. Both had wonderful flavors, pasta cooked Al dente as it should be. We had a delightful meal and will visit again when we return.

New Hit in Southtown

By Mike S |

Okay ... more downtown but on the edge of Southtown. Newly opened int the Fairmount with expansion plans in the very near future of Silo Steakhouse and a rooftop oyster bar. Nonna has been open about 2 months and we had a wonderful dinner. Loved the bread and olive based pesto before our look at the fantastic wine list. Had a nice Barolo (always prefer to bring my own) even though a tad pricey. Two of us had the lobster ravioli and another had the bolognais (sp) and the last had the fish. All were terrific. I recommend the caprese salad but the shrimp salad was also terrific. All in all a tad noisy but well worth the visit. Definitely a return trip will occur.

Early Dinner on a Hill Country Road Trip

By BordeauxGuy3 |

We arrived and valet parking is provided at the the Fairmont Hotel. We were seated near a window so we could watch the street view. Neither of us was terribly hungry so we ordered two appetizers. One was risotto with saffron and fried with a panko crust. The other was the caprese salad. Both were excellent and a reasonable portion. For the main course we shared the Ravioli Con L’Aragosta which was Lobster Ravioli, Pancetta, and Cherry Tomatoes, which was very tasty and just the right amount to round out the dinner. The interesting thing about the Fairmont is that this hotel was built 106 years ago in 1812, and was moved to this location a couple of years ago. The service was attentive and seamless. For desert we shared a creme brulee which was excellent and you could tell that they had used real vanilla bean because you could see the tiny seeds. Over all an excellent experience, one that I would repeat next time I am in town,

First you need to know about

By TommyboySA |

First you need to know about the noise-off the charts. If you’ve arrived looking for a nice evening with friends you’ve come to the wrong place. There will be no conversation. The food; not that terrific. Some good-the octopus and potato appetizer. Most pretty ordinary-the pasta and boar ragu, the four cheese pasta. The bar-a couple of very good cocktails for our table. But for our non-alcohol friend, no virgin piña colada or margarita and no non-alcoholic beers. Overall pretty poor. Way over-hyped. Nope, wouldn’t come back.
