Three couples had dinner together here this week (one had just returned from Italy, btw). Everything here was first rate....arancini, all pastas, Branzini, brocchiola....we all agreed we've had none better in Italy. The service (which I usually don't notice unless it's bad) was attentive in a sincere and helpful way. Great (not cheap) wine list... Italian food in Chicago doesn't get better than Noninna

Always enjoy their happy hour. Best appetizers and drinks! The staff is always attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Dinner is always delicious. Have taken friends here many times and they have always been pleased. The braciole with gnocchi is to die for! It’s the best!

Wonderful dining experience. Started with a bottle of wine and some specialty drinks. Skipped appetizers and went straight to entrees. We were lucky that one of the specials was risotto. Yummy. I couldn’t eat it all but wanted to as it was outstanding. Several people got the eggplant ravioli and spaghetti carbonara—no complaints. Finished the meal by splitting the tiramisu among the dessert eaters. Service was great. Thanks Jose for your patience and guidance to a wonderful meal (our first) in Chicago.

We had a couples dinner here with friends who live in the city. The food and service was great, it was a comfortable place for our dinner with old friends. Convenient location and reasonable prices.

Excellent restaurant. Highly recommend it. We we in Chicago and last minute was lucky to get a reservation. The food was amazing, the service was excellent and very nice atmosphere. We had such a wonderful experience . I got the special butternut squash stuffed pasta, my husband had the salmon. The lava cake is also amazing.

Went with my wife and three friends for a Friday night dinner. The food and service (thanks, Leonardo!) were wonderful. The Spaghetti Carbonara was terrific; very much like it is served in Italy; but rarely done here in the States. The Black Ink pasta with seafood was also wonderful. We had a great time and would go back.

Concierge at the Westin River North suggested this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I had the spinach fettuccini with vegetables and my husband had the pappardelle with short rib ragu. Both were very good. We were seated in the bar area in a large banquette, but the room was quiet and quite lovely. Service was fast and efficient.

My daughter recommended this place that I have never heard of... so we gave it a go. We had a table of 4 and we were seated in a smaller room next to a larger group that were loud and obnoxious. I asked to be located somewhere else and they were right on it. The entire evening they made sure our dining experience was excellent. The service for us was impeccable. The food was very delicious. We dined on a meatball appetizer, bucatini carbonara, beef short ribs and gnocchi for the main course. Dessert we ate cannolis and the pan a cotta . The pour for drinks were spot on. I have eaten at many Italian restaurants in the Chicago area and this place beat all expectations.

A nicely situated place, pretty decor with 1960s style family and location photographs. Food was average, service a bit "hovering", all in all a bit meh. I didn't feel the Italian vibe apart from the photographs.

Made very welcome by waiting staff and really enjoyed the food - prices reasonable for the quality and location, and definitely a safe bet. Not a tourist trap.

The service was far too disinterested and quick, as if they just wanted to get it over and done with. The food lacked the authenticity of a genuine Italian restaurant rather than an American pastiche of Italy. I recognise that we are in the USA but other restaurants can and do achieve better results. The pricing on the contrary, was good value, for the serving but that does not make up for the lack of perhaps quality ingredients or even cuisine skills. A good wine list

"Solid" is not a compliment exactly, but it's not a total negative either. This is good, sensible shoes Italian in a bustling but nicely designed interior space. It was a bit noisier than I expected, but we had a front table so not too bad. The service was okay, but not attentive. We started with the roasted cauliflower, which I thought was pretty good. I had the duck ragu, which was rich and average in flavor. My son had the spaghetti carbonara which he said was on the slimy side. They do use raw egg rather than cream, which he was happy about (not liking creamy sauces) but the raw egg gave the whole dish a slippery (unpleasant) feel. His wife had the chicken parmesan, which I gather was not a big hit either. They are true fans of chicken parmesan, so they have had many to compare it with, so while I didn't taste the chicken parm, I will take their expert word for it. We all split salads, which were crisp and fine. We skipped dessert. This was my son's second visit and it pretty much confirmed his first impression which was that this was fine Italian food but nothing terribly special. I would agree with that.

My partner and I celebrated her birthday here yesterday. What a treat! The service was impeccable and warm. The atmosphere modernistic even as the food is fairly traditional Italian. But what food! Our salads were fresh yet novel in the mix of the herbs and dressings; a nice surprise. I went for the Orata fish and it was filleted beautifully. Better yet the flavor was succulent and fresh. My partner had the duck ragú with pasta, another great choice. We were rewarded further with wonderful gelato and cappuccino. Great evening, will be back!

Extremely accommodating! We called and asked if they could accommodate a party of 10, 5 of whom were children. They set up a table in a separate room for us. The service was above and beyond. The food was delicious! I was skeptical before we went there because it seemed like it was too fancy for the kids, but they brought out a tray of different kinds of noodles and let each kid pick what kind of noodles they wanted. Our kids are ages 7 and under. If you want true Italian food and amazing service, this is a great place to go!

Great dinner and service for a group of 10. Everyone was happy with their food and cocktails. Good wine selection.

Great Italian restaurant. We were in vacation and they wrote able to accommodate all 7 of us. The Ford wad fantastic. We had the raviolis with lobster, pizza, lasagna and the agnolotti pasta. Great service and food.

Excellent Italian food in River North neighborhood. We enjoyed the butternut ravioli and the spinach pasta with dried tomato, asparagus and mushrooms. The cannoli siciliano was delicious. Highly recommend.

It's a total tourist trap scam. Don't bother making a reservation. We were still waiting to be seated 50 minutes past our reservation time and ended up walking out. There were at least 10 other parties who had booked reservations for the exact same time and 0 open tables. Total scam. The name of the game they play here is just to let everyone make a reservation without any regard to their actual ability to accommodate you and this way their tables stay full - but only those willing to wait an hour or more past their reservation time actually get sat. Hosts will keep telling you just a few more minutes. Run the other way, don't even think about making a reservation here. There were about 20 people whose nights were ruined tonight because they made "reservations" here and they couldn't be accommodated.

Chicago is filled with amazing food and limitless options; however, this is a fantastic choice for Italian. The ambiance is romantic and cozy, but modern. The drinks are delicious and unique. The food is so tasty and comforting. The staff were kind and accommodating. I just cannot say enough. While we were not seated at a red velvet booth, they looked so inviting. The sun room where we were seated was just gorgeous. I really appreciated the portion sizes and complimentary bread with Italian oil and balsamic for dipping. I had the pappardelle which was amazing and the Alexandria (gin, st.germaine) drink was exquisite.

Very good food and service! Came here with a friend midweek and was seated instantly. I would highly recommend. The portions were adequate for the price.

We come back here every time I visit. And, I even held a company event here. The service is top notch, the food excellent, and a thoughtful wine list. I will always come back!

from the time you walk in to the time you leave, they make you feel at home. The service is excellent, the food was outstanding, like youre in your gramma's kitchen! Everything was outstanding. I wish I lived closer, I would go more often.

Does every Italian restaurant in Chicago prepare pizza in a wood-burning oven? It only seems that way. Count Nonnina among them. But my wife and I don't go to Nonnina for the pizza. Located at 340 North Clark Street, in the River North neighborhood, in a space formerly occupied by Piccolo Sogno Due, it is a great place to go for lunch and paninis, subs, burgers and pasta. Open from 11 to 10 Monday through Thursday and 11 to 10:30 on Friday and Saturday, we enjoy relaxing in the heated patio and consuming sandwiches that any self-styled sandwich shop would be proud of. On this occasion, we started with prime short rib meatballs with tomato sauce, basil and parmigiano-reggiano, a cheese board with an assortment of Italian cheese, crostini and mostarda and a Caesar salad with Romaine hearts, pancetta, shaved brussels sprouts, croutons and parmesan dressing with shrimp. For a main course, my wife chose chicken parmesan, breaded chicken with mozzarella, spaghetti, parmigiano cheese and pomodoro sauce. I opted for an Italian sub with Soppresata, mortadella, capicola, provolone, lettuce, tomato and Italian dressing with a bowl of tomato basil soup and parmesan fries. The sandwich tasted so good that I decided to take another on home for a late-night snack, a turkey sub with turkey breast, mayo, tomato, lettuce and pancetta. We have been looking for the best sandwiches in Chicago and Nonnina is on the short list.

This rating may be harsh. This is a very nice restaurant and very busy this Friday evening. I have written before that I am something of an elitist when it comes to restaurants. That doesn't mean I don't like boisterous places with bustling service and a great bonhomie because I actually prefer that to dining in the hushed, sepulchral dining rooms of pretentious "fine dining" establishments. However, when one is placed on a table, in an off room in the dining space (looks like it can be closed off to make a private area) with 5 other tables, it is appalling to find oneself seated next to a four top that literally shouted, swore and shrieked with laughter at one another the whole meal. The problem is not the restaurants fault of course but we were unlucky enough to be in the side room, where the noise was greatly magnified and made even raised voice conversation all but impossible. I hate that and it spoiled the ambience and probably causes me to mark this rating down. It probably won't happen to you but I write this so you can ask to be seated elsewhere if you are offered a table in this space and this sort of boorish behaviors bothers you as much as it does me. In the main dining room or outside, this behaviors would have been far less intrusive. Having said that, this is an excellent place to eat. The menu is varied and pretty extensive with some traditional favorites (lasagne etc.) but many imaginative dishes too. I ordered an excellent arancini starter before we split the duck rage which was a highlight that I highly recommend. My wife har a delightfully prepared sea bass (although it came with only green beans so think about ordering extra if you like more sides/veggies) and I went with the macaroni dish that was good but not very imaginative. My fault - it was what I ordered that lacked imagination. Good wine list with a reasonable variety of wines by the glass. Short but interesting cocktail list too. The service was friendly and efficient and we were offered water and bread soon after getting seated. I am not a fan of being asked whether we want bottled water and not regular water from the tap as well. It is the latter I generally go for because I consider the $6 for still water from a bottle to be a rip off. I was caught this time. Not exactly cheap for italian food either but the bass we had was expensive ($40) and inflated things, as did the cocktail and wines. Not bad value though, the dishes are generously sized and the quality very good. Make a reservation if I were you. It is quite a large restaurant with bar seating and lots of space (booths as well as classic tables) but very busy

Real simple here: get the pasta! Which one? Any of them. Excellent and affordable relative to other restaurants in the area. Portion size is also bigger than most in Chicago. You will be full...no petite plates here.

The fritto misto was delicious and the risotto was good but rather lacked rice (a lot of green vegetable). The service was very pleasant. We were glad the portions were a normal size and not the huge portions you normally encounter in the US. The bottled water seemed rather expensive as did an ordinary bottle of wine, but I suppose that is par for the course these days.

I was expecting more from this restaurant as I'm a fan of Piccolo but our experience here wasn't as good as I was hoping. We got off on the wrong foot when they were out of the stuffed Zucchini blossoms on a Monday night that wasn't that busy. We had the frito misto which was done very well. The two salads we shared were also very good with the figs and roasted grapes. My duck ragu could had been made with any meat as there was no distinctive duck flavor: The veal chop was dry and overcooked: the smoked salmon ravioli was undercooked: The waiter was helpful and attentive. Not worth a repeat visit for me

This is in fact the finest Italian restaurant in Chicago...Better than Rosebud, better than Mastros, better than Stefanis... The Chicken Vesuvio is to die for... Compliments to GM Ricardo...

Truly appreciates the customer and make you feel 'at home'. Delicious food at very reasonable prices. Provides gluten-free pasta options. Very attentive and courteous. Will make return visit as too good pass up!

We went with friends who had already been there multiple times. Every dish was delicious. ..the seafood pasta with the amazingly nuanced sauce, the bolognese that was the best we'd had in years. The service was excellent. And the noise level was vibrant but conversation was easily possible. We'll be back, but I bet it will soon be tough to get into.

We selected this restaurant due to its location not wanting to walk too far in a cold rain. This turned out to be a very good selection. Our dinners were very good, service friendly and attentive. My chicken parm was delicious as were the rest of our dinners. The pasta side was equally as good. Definitely a fortuitous selection.

I recently hosted a party of ten at Nonnina to celebrate a bachelorette. It took place just a few weeks after their opening. While the food was very good, I found that the service was generally lacking - Yes, 10 is a lot of people, but I felt that the staff wasn't well prepared to handle such a large party. The wait staff didn't really engage the women, or the celebratory occassion - and in fact, rarely even smiled when they did approach the table. (Gave the impression that they chose the short straw). Wait staff would also leave for long stretches, leaving 10 women with empty wine glasses . . . . (it was frustrating for us, and lost revenue for the restaurant). Every time we needed something we had to flag someone down. One woman accidentally knocked over a glass of wine, and the waiter witnessing this, simply walked away, leaving us to fend for ourselves in the clean-up. (He didn't even bring replacement bread or anything to sop up the wine). I get that large parties are difficult . . . but find someone with a better temperament. We are grown women, so were not obnoxious or rowdy. Would I try it again? Yes, but with a smaller party, and I would hope for a more engaging wait staff.

What can you expect more than good food and perfect service! I rarely give a 5 stars but we 4 all really enjoyed the restaurant. Every dishes were tasty and not that expensive (25to28$).

Our first night in town, we chose Nonnina. We made reservations on opentable and were quickly seated. However once we were seated it was like we weren’t there. We couldn’t figure out where everyone was. About 5-10 minutes later the staff came flowing out of a room. They were all in some sort of a staff meeting. Once their meeting was over, we constantly had help at our table. I had the ravioli and the Giovanna drink. Both were fabulous. My husband had meatballs and the pork chop. He all but licked his plate. We had a great meal and service was excellent. Nice place would definitely return.

I went there with my team for dinner and we truly loved it. Great ambience, service, and most importantly, the food was excellent!

We were famished after arriving in Chicago and the concierge at the Westin River North recommended Nonnia for a late lunch. The Caesar salad was fresh and the pepperoni pizza absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Seriously, some of the best pizza I’ve had. It was also enough to share for two! The staff was friendly and service was speedy.

My dining experience was magnificent! From the handmade pastas to the out of this world canolli, everything was prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious. I started with the mozarella and prociutto which were so fresh and authentic. Then I had the duck papardelle which blew my mind. The staff was incredible too. Our first bottle of wine was just a bit off and they happily opened another for us which was perfect.

The food here is too notch, and I'm a snob about Italian food. The service is spectacular, they are incredibly attentive. Loved the wine list as well. The happy hour drinks they offer are also amazing.

We made reservations a few days in advance for a romantic evening and he staff at Nonnina nailed the evening perfectly. They gave us a romantic booth for two that allowed the intimate evening we were looking for. The service was fantastic and the food was superb. The ricotta Nocchi was the best we have ever had. We will be back next time we are in Chicago

Met family visiting from east coast for dinner at Nonnina and it was marvelous. All the pasta is made in-house. Everyone raved about their meals, salmon with broccolini, chicken pargiana, manicotti, a beef dish, pasta. Fine wine, dining and ended with Gelato all around, slow churned right on the property. Authentic Italian.

Nonnina excels in service, in the creativity of the menu, and in the quality of the food. They have unique twists on traditional dishes that aren't on menus of other Italian restaurants, like stuffed zucchini flowers and braciole. The pasta is made fresh, each vegetable in the Mafalda pasta dish was distinctive and delicious, and the sauce could not have been tastier. The salads and appetizers were delicious, as well. We will definitely return

I'm always skeptic of Italian restaurant with name that nobody would ever use in Italy. Indeed, this place has a menu filled with Italian dishes with some exceptions like the Neapolitan and Californian wines. The latter is tolerable since in California they grow Italian grapes mostly. However, I was very disappointed when I received the cured meat and cheese. Nobody would pour oil on this shared appetizer. In addition , I was disappointed for the oily carbonara and the chicken pasta. Absolutely not Italian. Overpriced and with some inauthentic items. I would suggest to anyone. Don't get me wrong, food is ok, not tasty, but ok. But i would pay that much only for a good and authentic Italian food.

An interesting menu of good, authentic Italian cuisine. The minestrone soup was quite good, with a nice balance of flavors and plenty of vegetables in it. The linguine with white clam sauce was also good - I found it just one touch too salty, but overall good, with plenty of clams, and the pasta cooked just right (slightly al dente). Others at the meal raved over their salmon and pizza. Portions generous.

A busy place with quiet booths and fine hand crafted meals. Their various thin crust pizzas are fine starters. The one with micro thin prosciutto is especially tasty. Baked clams are good, too. And, the Chicken Vesuvio is excellent. Superb wine collection that can have quite a mark up.

We recently had dinner at a very famous NYC restaurant where you can make a reservation but will not be seated until your entire party has arrived. Since we had 14 people and three got lost on the way, we were not seated and our big reserved table was broken up and given to several other parties and it took an eon for them to connect a set of tables for us again once our party was complete. I could kind of understand why a super famous Time’s Square restaurant would do this because they have a huge tourist crowd that they want to get in and out as fast as possible. There is no taking your time to enjoy dinner. The waiters rush about loading you with food and get you to eat and leave as fast as possible. It’s a tourist destination that some friends insisted on trying who had not been to NYC before. The restaurant could care less whether you enjoyed it or not because there will be a group of tourists ready to jump in because they’ve heard it’s a thing to do in NYC. It is not the kind of restaurant we enjoy regardless of whether we are seated right away or not. When we arrived at Nonnina with a 6:30 reservation but only two of four people, we were not seated. The rest of our party was 20 minutes late because their Uber driver got lost. No fault of ours or the restaurant's but had we been seated, we would have ordered drinks and then ordered appetizers that probably would have arrived at the same time as the rest of our group. Instead, we waited fifty-five minutes to be seated. And when we were finally seated, our waiter told us to figure out what we wanted as quickly as possible because the kitchen was very behind with orders. Not awesome at all. So, a dinner that we expected to be enjoying within a half hour or so of our reservation time, did not hit the table for nearly two hours and that was just the appetizer. The food was excellent and the manager that night was very apologetic even though we never complained. He offered us complimentary wine and comped us our desserts which was really, really nice but we have never, outside of that crazy Time’s Square restaurant, had to wait to be seated more than a few minutes when we have a reservation at any restaurant in Chicago no matter how popular. It’s the whole reason we make reservations. We don’t want to stand in a cramped lobby on a freezing winter day with the door constantly opening and closing while waiters rush by with teetering loaded plates and wait nearly an hour to be seated. There are so many amazing restaurants within just a few blocks of our home that honor your reservation time and when we decide where we are going to eat, I doubt Nonnina will come up high on our list or even on the list at all because we want to enjoy a relaxing evening sitting around a table with great wine and food, not standing in a crowded lobby waiting for almost an hour. It was not the relaxing evening we were looking forward to. Not even close. The food is definitely worthy of at least four stars and our server was awesome and the manager was incredibly apologetic for the wait, but sadly, even with many apologies and free desserts, it’s hard to imagine that we’d take the chance of having a repeat experience.

This is an Italian restaurant next to the canal and the shopping area in Chicago. The menu contains pizza, pasta and risotto. The prices for maincourse Are between 20-30 $. We had good food and experienced good service.

Stumbled on this place in Chicago's downpour and did not want to drive-well what luck, could not have asked for better food and service. They started with wonderful breads and an assortment of toppings. Pasta is homemade and we shared the pasta and main dish. There was no room for dessert. Would definitely go back the next time I'm in Chicago.

I scheduled a business luncheon at Nonnina, the rebrand of piccolo due and was thrilled. Manager Juan Padilla made sure that I had a nearby table to the entry to. accommodate a guest who uses a walker. Fantastic service from FERNANDO. We started with the cauliflower arrosto and then had egg plant parmaganina that I was able to share with others and also orders of Bronzino. Food was delicious, ambience great and a very nice pour of Casa Noble Tequila. Stop in of make a reservation and this will soon be on your regular list of favorite dining options.

Traditional Italian menu. Food quality was great. Great ambience. Fast service but not too fast. Waitstaff was friendly and checked in regularly. We will definitely go back.

Business dinner with 4. Lovely restaurant, near riverwalk. All 4 meals were great, the pork chop special was fabulous with large portion. Not cheap though.

Probably one of the worst restaurants I've been to in 5 years! We went for a good friends bday. Walked in And the whole place smelled like varnish . Decided to dine outside. Asked 3x for water/ focaccia refills. Sent the stuffed calamari back twice to be grilled a tad more and was beyond unappetizing. Chopped salad was inedibly salty. My wife's chix dish had a sauce so gloopy and unflavorful. When I went to chat w/ the genl Mngr, the front of the house guy told me he's in the kitchen and for me to go find him. Brought Neopolitan bday desert to table that tasted like ice milk. 200+ dollars later of our hard earned $ later and no apologies/ not even a cocktail off the bill/ won't be back. Not surprised it was dead on a Sunday eve.

It was a last minute decision to come here, partly because of the availability of Friday night reservations. I did not have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised! We were seated quickly and received very attentive service. They have a good wine list at reasonable prices. Goat cheese stuffed zucchini blossoms were a winner for appetizers as was grilled octupus. My bracioli was the best I have had - tender and vary tasty. A very nice experience from start to finish.

Italian comfort food at its best-definitely not the red-sauce-with-everything type of restaurant. Really enjoyed the duck ragout.

One of the receptionists where I was working suggested this restaurant. I t was just across the street from where I was so I ventured across the street to have lunch. The service was fairly quick and there was a variety of sandwiches and desserts to chose from. I selected the 6 inch turkey club sub sandwich. It was served with some type of Italian vinaigrette sauce that made for a pretty tasty sandwich. This place is in downtown Chicago so I doubt it's open too late after all the workers leave the surrounding buildings when the workday is done. But if you're in downtown Chicago near N. Clark street and the river, you should definitley try it out. You'll get a filling, tasty meal.

I went for lunch during restaurant week. Although I regret not asking for salad dressing on the side, the pizza was some of the best in the city and the cannoli was terrific. Service was prompt and knowledgeable. At the door we were greeted warmly, which was the start of the delightful experience. The menu offers a wide range of choices so there's something for everyone.

Let me begin, by saying that the food was excellent. I found it a little on the salty side, but that is often the case with Italian cuisine. I was excited that they had non meat options that were innovative, and very well prepared. A stand out was the cauliflower, it was stunning. My partner, who will eat seafood, had an excellent seafood pasta dish, and it smelled fantastic. On the downside, I felt the wine list was adequate, but not particularly interesting. Our server was a nightmare, totally disinterested, suggested nothing, offered nothing, and seemed happy when we left. I don’t really blame the restaurant for that, and the food was good enough that I’d return. However, I would not sit at his station.

Went early on a Friday night. Got seated right away. Great food and drinks. Kids ages 14 and 12 ate everything. Staff was friendly.

We are big fans of Italian food! We arrived before our reservation and had not only delicious cocktails, but ones on their happy hour! We were a group of 7 and were so happy to have a round table. The service was excellent. We had two different bottles of wine that they helped select that were great. We had the spicy cauliflower and calamari as starters--both great! Lots of pastas on the table and a few different chickens. Everything was really delicious. This was a cozy place, not a scene like other places we've been in the city. We would definitely go back!

This is exactly what I dreamed a Chicago Italian restaurant would be like! So cozy, inviting, the staff for helpful and warm. The food was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back!

Went with friends last Saturday. This is a very high quality establishment with creative takes on classics and spot-on. I had a slow cooked short rib on a bed of squash and kale. The short rib (Braciole) was perfectly flavoured with spices and a hint of tomato. The squash (not normally my thing) was whipped practically to a froth with cinnamon and clove. The Kale was flavourful and tender. My friends thought I had the best dish. Also standout was the home-made spaghetti carbonara. Loads of pancetta, perfectly cooked pasta and they serveit with the warmed yolk on the mound of pasta, waiting to be broken and mixed in. Renardo was a fantastic waiter with perfect suggestions. Alos make sure to try the gnocchi (made without potatoes!) which was light and fluffy, and shared as an appetizer. The truffle risotto was off the hook.

Nonnina is the proto typical Italian restaurant in Chicago...The food is always sensational; the maitre'd is always on point (Ricardo) and the atmosphere always fun. We had 10 people and the service was excellent... it is a top favorite of ours at 340 N Clark st...

We were referred to this restaurant by staff at Hotel Chicago as it is close by and serves home made pasta. And making it in house shows. The portions are large for all courses. The arancini appetizer had 4 pieces and a special sauce. The pasta and dinner entrees were large and reasonably priced for downtown Chicago. There is a pretty large wine selection. The service was excellent. The cappuccino flavored gelato was a great finish.

Charming restaurant conveniently located. There were so many tempting items on the menu and we all ended up with giant servings of pasta. We shared tastes of everyone's meal and couldn't decide which was tastier. Fortunately, we were able to walk home slowly and work off the enormous meal at least a little!

Terrific service!!!! Jose our waiter was exceptional! Food was excellent!!!’ Will be back!!!! 5 stars!

Went to Nonnina's before the theater. Excellent meal and the service was great. Duck ragu and carbonara both great choices. Loved the option of ordering appetizer sized pasta so we could try a couple. Veal was also quite good. We will be back.

This our first time here. The location is in downtown Chicago, restaurant ambience is lovely Italian decorated with vines and bulb lights on ceiling. The food is marvelous. We ordered margarita pizza for appetizer. It was thin, crispy, and light. The our main course was 2 plates of different pasta one with tomato pesto sauce and one with mushrooms is very good. The desert was almond cake with ice cream. It was ok. We enjoyed our dinner and we will definitely come back. Special thanks to our server Manwela for taking care of us.

Had the Caesar Salad and Pasta of the day. Both were very good. Nice wine selection. Waiter and support staff were very attentive and never had to ask for a refill of wine or water.

Amazing service and food was phenomenal! Fernando our waiter catered to our sons - one 6 and the other 16 for his birthday. Pasta was amazing and the pizza - oh my! We had duck ragu, bucatini carbonara, cheese pizza and typical spaghetti/meatballs. Truly phenomenal! We will be back!

The pasta is really made fresh in house. Had the carbonara and it was amazing. They make their own pancetta too. It shows. The dish was perfectly creamy, salty, cheesy and comforting. It was a weekend night so it was a bit noisy but the staff were attentive and friendly.

Went in the afternoon with my husband to meet another couple before the hockey game. We ordered a few different apps to share. I am still trying to recreate the roasted cauliflower app. It’s added a new veggie to my grocery list. Can’t wait to go back for a full meal.

First, I have to say that after booking a reservation online I called to be sure we could arrive early and have drinks at the bar as my daughter was coming from overseas and we hadn’t visited her in quite a while. The restaurant couldn’t have been more accommodating. My wife and I took family here last Saturday and we were all pleased with both the delicious food and the exceptional service. We shared three appetizers, all delicious, especially the grilled octopus. I had the Bucatini Carbonara which was delicious and the rest of our table had rave reviews on their meals; the Halibut and the Pork Chop were the clear favorites. I found the restaurant to be very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

We dined here last month and enjoyed our meal. We had reservations and were quickly seated. Our server was friendly, and our food came out very fast! The atmosphere is great, and it wasn't overly crowded for a weekend night. I would recommend it to others. Portions aren't huge like Rosebud (my favorite), but the food was very good!

I was hesitant when Noninna was announced. I really liked Piccolo Sogno (I considered it one of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago). The new Noninna is quite good. I don't think it is as good as it was, but the new space definitely makes it an attractive place to stop by. It has three distinct areas (a bar, restaurant, and sandwich shop). The food that I had was quite good. The service was also great (I appreciated that the manager came around to make sure everything was good). If in the area, this is definitely a spot worthy of lunch or dinner.

The food was amazing and the staff was attentive and thorough. The host was gracious and listened to our seating request. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Salmon dinner was healthy and tasty. We are very picky and this restaurant was excellent!

Ate here when it was Piccolo Sogno Due, and we liked Nonnina much better. Much less pretentious and the food was delicious. Even more important was the attention to detail by the staff. Every one made sure we were always comfortable and taken care of. The food was fantastic and very fairly priced-especially for the city. We will be back for sure.

Recommended by a friend on our recent family trip to Chicago and was very pleasantly surprised on a rainy first night. We started off by ordering 3 appetizers, all were very good with the cauliflower arrosto being the table favorite. I had the Pappardelle Duck Ragu, which was delicious and to me ... 5 empty plates at the end of dinner is always a good thing.

This is a great choice for very good Italian food with unusually attentive and skilled service. Our waiter was amazing. The restaurant has a classic Italian feel to it, very comfortable. Also, a good selection of wines is available, and I was struck by how reasonable the prices are for wines by the glass compared to other restaurants. Also, this is a good choice for pre-theater dinner because it's an easy walk to the theater district and food comes out not long after it is ordered, so almost no wait time. Four of us had dinner on Saturday and we enjoyed it very much. As we were leaving the manager went out of his way to bid us goodbye and thanked us for coming.

My friend and I stopped in for dinner night before the Chicago Marathon based on reviews from TA. The place was packed with multiple people waiting for tables and waiters bringing food from the kitchen to tables through the front of the house. We were seated next to a window/wall due to only being two of us and the ambiance was good. Service took a little while yet could be expected as it was heaving. For some reason, a guy kept filling up our waters every 5 minutes sticking the jug across the table when you are trying to have a conversation. Pick up the glass dude that's not service. We ordered Fritto Misto to share.. could have fed a football team (the portion was massive). As my main, I had Spaghetti Frutti di Mare which was a little dry but okay. Once again portions were massive even for two big guys... maybe smaller portions more detail in delivery. All in all, it was okay, nothing to write home about.

13 of us dined here on a Saturday night and were not disappointed. Put this place on your list of Italian restaurants to dine at (and reasonably priced as well). For appetizers try the pizza and the cauliflower (surprisingly outstanding). I had the spaghetti carbonara. Unique noodles and just the right amount of bacon. Others had the salmon, rigatoni and chicken. No one left disappointed. Nothing special about the drinks, but none of the group are big wine drinkers. Our waiter, Rodrigo, was 5-star as well. Enjoy!

We dined here after reading all the glowing reviews plus realizing this was the former Piccolo Sogno due spot which we didn't care for. We arrived for our reservation right on time but still had to wait 35 minutes for our table. Once seated on the screened in patio we were happy for the wait but soon realized despite it being very crowded in there there was also a very cold draft coming from the end near the street..so we had to dine in our overcoats to stay warm. Overall, we found the food to be really good, but our server was often a step behind it seemed as we were often waiting on something and just when we were about to ask someone else he would suddenly appear. We started with the caprese salad and the cauliflower. We then both had the squash soup and for entrees i had the special dumplings stuffed with ricotta and sage and he had the maccaroni with marinara. As i said before the food was really good but the service lacked and as i noticed just by looking around there was a bit of favoritism as well. You can clearly see and notice who are the regulars because they get the best of service. i probably wouldn't go back due to this issue and also it is a pricey restaurant and there are several low key Italian places that we love better

This is the reinvention of a restaurant which was loved. I thought that I'd miss Piccolo Sogno Due, but I was wrong. Nonnina is better, the food is fantastic, the menu creative, the service personal, and location well placed for business lunches and long date dinners. Pasta is delicious-- mine was one of the best bologese sauces I've had in or out of Sicily. The eggplant appetizers was delicious, and I don't even like eggplant. The veal chop is not to be missed! It's huge, tender and cooked perfectly. Everything about this new restaurant form the folks who introduced Piccolo Sogno is to be applauded. I made my second reservation - to return-- before I finished dessert!

This restaurant was near our hotel in the River North area. I had contacted them prior to our trip as I was on a specific diet since I was running the marathon and needed healthy and light food before the race. They were very flexible to slightly alter the recipe for the Chicken Vesuvio that I ordered (used less butter and oil)...it was really good! We were a group of 6 and all the food we ordered was amazing. Very fresh and tasty food. The server was attentive and the atmosphere was cozy. It was a little loud but we'd dine there again, I loved the energy of the place and the location. Don't forget to make a reservation in advance if possible. It was very busy when we were there.

Have walked past this restaurant several times, finally decided to make reservation for a informal business lunch, great idea. Customer service was excellent from the minute we walked in. The staff provided us with answer to all questions and suggestions.

Please go quickly. Nonnina is an exceptional experience. The service from welcome to farewell is friendly and inviting. Our servers reacted as if we were old friends. We were desperate to try the Timpano. It did not disappoint. All the food was fresh, beautiful and delicious. It is a cozy setting but not intimidating. Great for intimate experiences or for families to celebrate.

Good friends of ours brought us here for a mid week dinner. Chicago has a lot of fine Italian Restaurants Nonnina is one of them. Very nice dining room and outside dining is a secure and inviting area. The food was universally good. Outstanding was the Pappardelle Duck Ragu wide pasta with braised duck sauce. Meatballs alla Nonnina very good. I did not taste anything else but all were very happy with their dishes and our waiter was also very pleasant.

I was one of a party of 15 and both the food and the service were impeccable. The menu has a terrific selection of standards and a little more adventurous, and the prices were reasonable. I had the best osso buco I've ever had, and I've ordered it a lot over the years. It's also great looking, a good atmosphere.

We were a party of 7 and needed different healthly options which they certainly offered us! Good glutten free pasta, the pizza was delicious, thin and crusty. Outstanding Octopous Entry. Good wine list (not cheap). Consider to wait some time to get your table.

Excellent italian food, great service and lovely tables. Decoration inside and outsie is warm and charming, desserts were excellent too!

As part of a business trip, someone else selected Nonnina. This classic Italian restaurant offers great food, ambiance and location. We have a large group of 20 and they staff was very accommodating. They made suggestions and we all started with two Octopus al Forno, grilled octopus with peppers and fingerling potatoes. It was fresh and grilled perfectly. We had a antipasti dish of soppresatta, mortadello and capicola and assorted peppers and olives. It was amazing. I ordered the Maccheroni and Meatballs. The pasta is made in-house and was fresh and perfectly cooked. The marinara sauce was a perfect touch to the meatballs and pasta. It was flavorful and tasty. If you're in Chicago and want authentic Italian, this is a great choice.

I ate here with my wife after work on a week night. We had 6 pm reservations and were seated immediately. The busboy brought water and a bread bowl right away. the bread bowl is accompanied by 4 toppings for yo to choose from along with standard EVOO or butter. The meatball appetizer was great, just like homemade. Our waiter Rodrigo was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. For dinner, my wife had the chicken parmesan and I had the pappardelle with duck ragu. The pasta is made fresh in the restaurant and I could taste the difference. The very tasty ragu was very generous with the amount of duck. I was very pleasantly surprised to be able to get a glass of Barolo to accompany my dinner. I have only seen this grape by the bottle at other restaurants. During dinner both the hostess and one of the partners stopped by the table to chat about our dining experience. Wew were made to feel appreciated. We are definitely going back.

We had dinner at Nonnina's prior to seeing a play at the Windy City Playhouse. The food options were excellent, with several vegetarian options available. We had the Cauliflower Arrosto, which was delicious- spicy but not overwhelming, and the Trifolati, which was exceptional. The pasta was perfectly cooked, along with the vegetables. It was delicious! The only downside to the evening was how close the tables were together. It made having a conversation difficult, with absolutely no privacy.

Some of the dishes were great-the arancini, frutti di mare pasta, cauliflower, meatballs and some of the dishes were not so great-the bucatini carbarnara, fritto misto, tiramisu. Service was very friendly and attentive. I would go back for the frutti di mare and a glass of wine.

The restaurant is close to all the action, and has a great outside patio area. The bar is a great place to meet up with friends and have a drink or two. The chicken was very tasty, and the calamari was delicious. Very convenient to downtown.

Amazing old world Italian restaurant. Freshly made pasta; fork tender meat; ricotta gnocchi fluffy and airy; very attentive wait staff; involved manager. Highly recommend if you are in Chicago.

My wife and I went to Nonnina for a 70th birthday celebration while on a trip to Chicago. We were seated at a nice table with a view of the street and the outdoor patio section - great people watching! Our servers were very pleasant and well-informed about the menu and the wine list. They have gluten-free pasta as an option for those of us who have to b gluten-free - and it was the best GF pasta I have had. The manager later brought out the bag and showed me that it was RP's Pasta from Madison, Wisconsin. Our margaritas were delicious. The appetizer we had was a Parma proscuitto with fresh mozzarella drizzled with olive oil. Main courses of pasta and fish were wonderfully done. Our delicious dessert was served with a candle to celebrate my wife's birthday. Despite being a very busy evening, the manager stopped by several times to talk with us and make sure everything was to our liking. Overall, a delightful dining experience!

Great acoustics! A lot has been said about the food, so rest assured it's good. Menu is varied and it's well prepared. But as the Quiet Traveler I want to say that this is a restaurant where you can actually have a conversation. It's not quiet in a "nobody's here" type way, but rather quiet in that the restaurant has put some attention into the design. There are glass partitions in certain areas separating large louder tables from smaller quieter areas, and there seems to be carpet or padding somewhere that absorbs some of the sound. The result is lively but still cozy and comfortable.

I loved this little restaurant (well, to be honest...I had my back to the rest of the restaurant in order to look out the window, so it might be bigger than I thought). Anyways...it is steps from the Westin, so very convenient if you are staying there or near there. I was by myself, and ordered the risotto. I am a risotto "buff" and it was excellent. It was mushroom...flavorful, creamy and YUMMY! The service was good, as well...attentive, but not annoying. A charming place with good food ...I heard the couple at the table next to me talk about how good their meals were, as well. Buon appetito!

This is the creation of the partners of Piccolo Sogno. In fact this restaurant is the recreation of the space which was previously Piccolo Sogno due. There is nothing the same as the other restaurant. The entire space has been remade. It is a warm and inviting space with a very stylish central bar area. The Name roughly translates to little grandma. The theme of menu as I understand it is to bring in traditional family recipes and present them in a slightly modern presentation. Great wine list . Everyone should find something they like. In case you are like me who has a large wine cellar, they allow you to bring in your own bottle for a modest $20 corkage. The cocktails that we had were expertly crafted. We loved everything we ordered. The do not miss list includes the homemade pasta with the duck ragu and the braciole with gnocchi. Mama Mia!!!!! The desserts we had were wonderful. Now if you do not have time to sit down for an elevate meal---attached tot the restaurant is a take out counter. Did not get a look at the menu, but it give another way to enjoy this food.

Very friendly & helpful staff throughout the experience. It was surprisingly good for recently opening!

Had dinner here with group of six and it was just great...everyone loved the meal! I enjoyed the squid ink pasta with assorted Squid, clams, etc and I loved it. Everyone who ordered the pork chops said they were great. Very good Italian wine menu. The servers worked very hard to make everyone happy and the owners helped out as well. It was just great! Saw a customer today who was entering Nonnina as I was leaving. He raved about his meal today...said it was the best fish he ever had! Do yourself the favor of trying this wonderful restaurant!

I love any restaurant that allows reservations via Open Table - thank you! We had a party of 6 for Mother's Day and were provided an intimate (read - small) round table and our server was Henri. 6 people means a lot of chatter, a lot of questions and sometimes we change our mind! Henri never grimaced. The pasta special was linguini with clams and I cannot rave about this dish enough! Everyone loved their food and wine selection. I asked Henri for a New Zealand Savignon Blanc, perfection. He appeared quite knowledgeable about the sizable wine selection. Everyone ordered dessert and, while the dark chocolate mousse was the most popular, I personally liked the blueberry tart the best. Word of warning - this restaurant cooks generously with both butter and olive oil and I loved it all!

My wife and I spent four days in Chicago for the first part of our honeymoon and we fell in love with the city. A big part of what made our visit so great was Nonnina and Paul Solomon. We flew in from Austin mid-afternoon and after checking into our hotel, my wife declared she was starving and ready for some Italian food. A quick search found Nonnina to be the best within a short walk. Rigatoni ala vodka, carbonnara, pasta specials, calamari, and a tremendous wine list. We ate dinner at Nonnina three times! Paul introduced himself to us during our first dinner and was very kind to us. He recommended a fantastic Montepulciano that time and we immediately knew we could trust his wine tastes. Paul even gave us recommendations for other wine-centric restaurants in Chicago, such as Avec and Proxi. The highlight of Nonnina is the fresh made pasta and the charm of its staff. Great for casual dining or more slightly more formal. We loved it!

Really good Italian food especially a large selection of homemade pastas (shown at the table before ordering). The veal ragu was delicious and light with only slight tomato. The grilled octopus appetizer was also delicious.

We were looking for an Italian place for dinner (but not one of those deep-dish places). This is a solid 4-star place. Food was delicious. Moreover, the service was lightning fast and friendly. Highly recommended.

Our son recommended Nonnina and we are glad he did! We split the ravioli stuffed with cheeses and served in a butter sauce and the mafalde trafolti which is a spinach pasta with aparigus, mushrooms green onions in a wonderful sauce with a lot of flavor. Both were excellent. Jenna did a very good job and the owner checked on us twice. It was a very nice meal and evening.

This is a wildly popular restaurant, but unfortunately our experience was not as favorable as the reviews or the crowds would indicate. I found the service to be overbearing and border line hustle, with a ridiculous emphasis on getting diners to order more and more wine--ie, glasses refilled too quickly and constant questioning of whether another bottle was in order. The food is perfectly acceptable. I had a duck ragu pasta dish that was just fine but nothing out of the ordinary. The noise level is also very problematic. I will search for another Italian solution next time I am in Chicago.

We made reservations and dined here during the Chicago marathon. Let's just say in spite of the reservations we weren't able to be served on time since the restaurant was crowded with marathon runners trying to get their carbs and visitors of all kinds. The restaurant staff remained calm, notified us of the delay and why and updated us when possible. It would have been nice if we had been offered a small appetizer during the wait since the time exceeded 30 minutes. However, I appreciated that once we were seated the staff didn't act rushed or if they couldn't serve us properly due to the crowded conditions. They were very attentive and took the time to explain items on the menu and answer our questions. The food was very delicious. We dined on several appetizers to sample different items as well as entrees. The food was served at a good temperature, seasoned well and tasty. We were not rushed through our dining also which was nice. Overall, a good experience. I would recommend this restaurant even if you aren't running a marathon and need your carbs!

This was directly across from our hotel and recommended by our Concierge desk. The service was FIRST RATE! Our head server was very attentive, the drink attendant never let our drinks get low, and we had two visits from management to make sure our meal and service was excellent! Our menu choices were recommended by the server and he was spot on. He asked about allergies and assured me that the chef would make me whatever I wanted without my allergen. The wine menu had a decent selection of "by the glass" wines which can be limiting at a fine restaurant. The prices were good for Chicago and the quality of the food. We both had big portions and were unable to finish our entrees. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and cannot wait to return next time I am in town. The food was excellent but the SERVICE was the STAR!!! Well done!!!!!

Our dinner was very good, especially the pasta special. Cocktails were well made and the service was excellent, attentive without being obtrusive. The manager served as a knowledgeable and helpful sommelier. Would describe the premises as upscale casual and it has a particularly nice outdoor terrace. As minor quibbles, thought the fried clam appetizer had a bit too much salt and the dessert menu could be upgraded.

This was our last restaurant before leaving Chicago. I had the Pappardelle Duck Ragu and my wife had the special, Shrimp Risotto. The duck was amazing, with al dante wide pasta. The service, drinks and wine choices were great! Recommend!

Ok first, I not from Chicago and was not personally recommended this restaurant, however, I am so glad I picked this place. I have a deep love of Italian food! And this place did NOT disappoint. Apps, pasta, dessert all great! Only one knock. Something happened with our order and it was delayed. I am not sure if someone would had noticed if I had not reached out. The manager was very attentive, however, the lambchop meal at our table was a bit dry and lukewarm most likely due to being under a heat lamp for a while. We will go back however, we loved the food!!

Went here with some friends never having heard of the place and had a very nice meal. The baked clams were very good as was the bolognese. Other dishes we tried were the calamari and calamari. All were prepared/presented nicely by a very nice/pleasant/knowledgeable staff who gave good advice re: our selections. There was a nice wine selection and the pricing of everything was quite reasonable.

Cozy restaurant with great Italian food (northern style and home made pastas) and with awesome cocktails.

Great evening. Wonderful fresh pasta. The carbonara was excellent. Nice wine list. Frito misto was also great. Very friendly staff. Great place.

We arrived early and sat at the bar with a good bartender who could answer any question. The bar was not too noisy and we were able to chat with some people next to us. Once seated at a table our waiter Leonardo was great. He knew the menu, made good recommendations and was just attentive enough. He had a sense of humor that fit with our table and rolled with our conversation. You can see the menu on line but the range of offerings was good with some interesting twists. It took a bit to decide what to order as a few of the descriptions grabbed me. One person at our table ask for a deletion of 2 ingredients from her order and that was granted without question. Portion size was good, not too large or too small. All but one person finished their dinner. The floor was crowded. I felt for the wait and bus staff as they navigated around the tight tables. It was noisy, but not so noisy that the 5 at our table couldn't talk without shouting. The one downside would be the bathrooms. They were too small for that size restaurant. The women's room had a line.

The food was fabulous as well as the service. They have an extensive and interesting menu. Reservations recommended.

I was thoroughly impressed with Nonnina- I was able to sit out on their enclosed patio on one of the first nice days this spring in Chicago, and though there's a good amount of street noise, it still felt relatively serene. My entire meal, from salad to dessert, was absolutely delicious, and the suggested wine pairing was reasonably priced and went well with my food. I will absolutely return on future visits to Chicago.

This restaurant is located on the ground floor of a nice older building in River North. The menu is extensive, the food is tremendous, and the service is first rate.

Had a great experience there. I read great reviews about the duck ragu, but I'm not a big fan of wide pasta noodles. When I asked if I could substitute a pasta, our server Rodrigo went one step further and offered to make any pasta I wanted. So I requested gnocchi and no problem! I actually think they should consider offering that on the menu because the gnocchi helped soak up some of the broth from the ragu. My GF had an excellent minestrone and eggplant parm. With a few drinks each, the bill was a reasonable $90. Nice decor and location in River North.

I had dinner here and sat at the bar and everything was amazing. I had the Mafalde ai Funghi Trifolati - perfect. The wine was also very good though I don't remember the name of it. The server was great and the manager came over to speak to us as well. The ambiance is very nice and I feel like you could dress up for a special occasion, or dress down and feel just as comfortable. I cannot think of any negatives. Definitely worth going out of your way to go here.

our niece brought us here for a evening dinner during our trip to the city, food was very good. I had mannacoti after the table shared the calamari, shrimp scallop appetized along with antipasti. the mannacoti was a pleasean surprise as it wasn't the usual servied in a dish that had been broiled and served scalding hot, intead the manacooti (4) were laid out on a plate with cheese and sauce and redily edible, I think everyone enjoyed their meals and we got in just before it filled up ( Saturday 6 or 7 pm).........nice place and enjoyed the food

The food was sub-par and the prices way to expensive for what you receive. Hotel recommended, but I would definitely try somewhere else if you want hearty authentic Italian food.

recently hosted a client dinner at Nonnina. Our group really enjoyed the bruschetta (tomato was a slice of roasted tomato, not a chopped mixture like I've had at other places). All pastas we were told are made in house. I also really enjoyed the pasta dish I ordered, Pappardelle w/duck ragu Only dish that received so-so review was bone-in ribeye.

My wife and I celebrated our 28 wedding anniversary at Nonnina's with a lovely dinner. The staff and particularly the manager were so very kind, accommodating and gracious hosts. I started with the minestrone soup and we both had the sole for our main course. The food was excellently prepared and tasted very good. We were surprised and treated to a dessert with happy anniversary written on the plate, a nice touch. We will return to try other menu items.

Outstanding food, wine and service. We loved the friendly atmosphere and the garden room. It was quieter than the inside room.

My husband and I ordered the caprese salad for an appetizer. Our server offered us the choice of oven roasted tomatoes or fresh tomatoes. We wanted both, so our server split it onto two plates and served them both (no extra charge). Loved the oven roasted ones. The server was knowledgeable about both the food and wine, and told us that if we wanted something on the menu prepared differently, to just ask, and if at all possible, he would accommodate us. I ordered the halibut, which was served with farro, carrots, Leeks, peas and asparagus (I asked them to leave out the fava beans). It was cooked perfectly, nice and flaky. The farro/sides were quite large...couldn't finish all of it. My husband ordered the Dover Sole, which the server brought out before cooking, for his approval. He loved it (said it's the best he's had). We also loved their balsamic (used it with the bread), and bought a bottle of it. As far as the wine goes, I was undecided, so he brought out a tasting for me.Overall, great service and loved the food.

Well worth walking the 2 minutes from the main river front to experience this place. A superior lunch to most places around and at a reasonable price point. We all had the crispy chicken sandwich with Parmesan fries and a real treat it was!

In a busy location Nonnina is a respite from the city. The service is outstanding. Our waiter spoke several languages and was able to communicate with us in Spanish, Italian, and English seamlessly. Nice touch. We were very impressed with the in-house made pasta. Homemade pasta can be thick and gummy. Nonnina's is perfect. In our home we make arancini so we are harsh critics. These were light and crisp, made with aborio rice - not long grain, and the sauce was delicate enough not to over power. The servings are very generous - a great idea to share. I had the Wild Boar ragu, my husband had the lamb, my daughter had the soft shell crab, and my son had the spaghetti and meatballs. He's 11. He only eats his nonna's meatballs (not even mine). He ate ALL the meatballs on his plate. Even nonna herself complimented the meatballs. The cocktails were interesting and delicious. I had the aperol spritzer. My father enjoyed the wine. Coffee and dessert were excellent - great choices of Italian favorites and some other unique things. Homemade gelato and sorbet. Will definitely return.

Business lunch for 4 people. Service was prompt and professional. Kudos given to the minestrone soup, the caprese salad (beautiful tomatoes), chicken parmigiana and the shrimp Caesar. Everything tastes so fresh. The focaccia bread was heavenly, but do not eat too much. Noise level wasn't bad at all; easily were able to converse through lunch.

So welcoming! We had the best service (Jose), cocktails, & food. We sat by the window & enjoyed the people watching & busy city movement. Every staff member we encountered were so accommodating & nice. We love going to Chicago & we've marked this restaurant as a favorite to revisit every time we're in town!

My wife and I had lunch at Nonnina during a business conference that I attended in Chicago this past July. It was only a block from our Hotel, the Westin. My wife had the kale salad which had candied pecans in it and I had the Italian sandwich panini with Parmesan fries. We sat outside to take advantage of the pleasant summer day. It was a very good lunch.

We had a wonderful meal recently. We went on a Monday when many restaurants are closed. Although not full there were enough people to make it lively. We had wonderful appetizer-Arancini-plenty for 2 people to share. For meal one wonderful thin crust margarita pizza and one orcheitti with sausage. Generous portions.

We had a group of seven - including a glutton free eater who was beautifully accommodated. Everything was delicious. We started with appetizers - and each plate was great. The main courses were good sized, the favorites were the pork and the seafood pasta - the braccioli over gnocchi was so good. Great wine list. Very attentive service and lovely setting.

Visited this restaurant at the suggestion of a co-worker. This was a splurge night, but worthwhile. For someone who misses professional service in many places, it was nice to be treated to professional, courteous, top-notch service. When our party of four asked to share two Caesar salads, our waiter brought them pre-split on four plates. The dressing was heavy, but the flavor was good. I had the pasta with meatballs. Good flavor in the sauce and meatballs, but I would like a little more garlic. Plenty of food to enjoy an take some home. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

A few of us went here on New Years Eve - and did do with high expectations as there is a connection with Piccolo Sogno - an amazing Chicago Italian restaurant. The food was mediocre, the service was good but not great. There are way too many great Italian restaurants in Chicago to think about going to Nonnina. Look elsewhere.

This place serves real great food. The service is algo very friendly and professional. Kudos to Rodrigo our multicul5url, multilingual server. Desserts are something here! I recommend the house made canolli or chocolate mousse. The espresso is also good (and hot). The best food experience in Chicago.

We had a lovely meal on the side enclosed porch. We shared 2 salads and meatball appetizers. The meatball was huge and light with a flavorful sauce. Everyone enjoyed their entrees (veal dish, shrimp with pasta,). The staff was helpful and did not rush us.

The food at this restaurant was phenomenal!! Went here for my Birthday dinner/trip, and it did not disappoint! Recommend the beet salad, mushroom and veg pasta with gf penne, and chocolate mousse! We've been talking about this meal since the moment we left and will definitely be stopping in again before this trip ends!!

In town for our sons Birthday and Nonnina was on his to do list. Warm and inviting. Atmosphere was hospitable. Food was delicious from the rice balls to the pasta, meatballs, seafood and spinach pasta. Service was spot on

The food is very good and the desserts are worth trying. The best restaurant experience we had in Chicago. There was a very high respect in case we had an alergie. The waiter asked us first if we had any food alergie. We would definitely go back.

Nona has only been open for a week. I went in with 7 people for lunch. We had a collection of appetizers, Prosciutto & Mozzarella, Pizza Fritta, Cauliflower Arrosto, Eggplant Bruschetta, and the Margherita pizza. This was an exciting collection of dishes to start that everyone enjoyed, especially the Prosciutto and Mozzarella. If Mozzarella could be fluffy, this was. House made by Priolo's team, this Mozzarella takes me back to Italy. It is just that good. Entrees ordered and shared included the Flank steak with spinach and mushrooms; grilled Salmon with roasted tomatoes on the vine and olives; Maccheroni pasta with Rock Shrimp and Broccoli; and Chicken Parmigiana. Everything was delicious. The portions sizes were abundant especially the chicken parmigiana which was packed up to go home. You can sit inside or outside in kind weather. There also is a large bar area. Space is very well designed.

Amazing! Simply amazing! Luis created the perfect dining experience for our trip to Chicago! The calamari was the best we’ve had...salmon and carbonara did not disappoint. Welcome back, Chicago, we’ve missed you!❤️

A balmy August evening, sitting outside with great conversation and fine simple Italian food and wine - great value, good (but not too rapid) service, what is not to like about Nonnina!

Chicago has many excellent Italian restaurants but Nonnina is one of the best and my personal favorite. The dinning room can feel crowded and the noise level is high but the menu is interesting and every dish is wonderful. I highly recommend this spot for a fabulous culinary experience.

We were greeted with a "come estai" and the evening only got better! They have recently turned this Piccolo Sogno Due into a classy restaurant with bar and an area for takeout. With white tablecloths and constant checking of our dinner, we couldn't have been more satisfied. This is a constant theme in the reviews I have read. Most of us had the Caesar Salad (I believe this is the best I've had) and Chopped Salad. The Thursday evening special pasta was the pasta Vongole and it's buttery richness and flavor was incredible! We also had the pappardelle duck ragu. Also excellent. We had a combination of desserts: gelato, strawberries and chocolate mousse and nothing was left behind. They have a good wine menu and I would definitely recommend returning for another dinner.

We recently visited Chicago with our family, and chose Nonnia for dinner on our first evening. The restaurant itself is cozy, and layed out nicely. It is not too noisy, and we were able to have nice audible conversation. The staff was attentive but not super friendly. It wasn't the warm Italian hug I was hoping for. Our table ordered a variety of dishes, pizza, oysters, pasta, salads, and steak. The chopped salad was really good. My son enjoyed the pizza, and our oyster lover liked the oysters. The pasta dishes weren't the greatest, mushy, and over worked, not thoughtful, and delicate. The steak was not enjoyable at all. The steak was tough, and under seasoned. If you are so bold as to not put salt on your table, and charge $65 for your steak, it had better be on point. The fingerling potatoes, tomatoes, and asparagus that accompanied the steak were cooked to death, and far too heavy on the nutmeg. It wasn't worth the hour plus drive from our hotel, and I ended up apologizing to our extended family for suggesting we eat here.

We had 6 people on a busy Saturday night at 8pm. We were seated quickly and enjoyed fabulous service from Roberth. He helped us with the menu and made some great suggestions. We started with the calamari (had a great sauce with capers) and meatballs (very tasty. Don't ignore the small pieces of toast that come with this). Our entrees, e.g., steak, Lobster ravioli, carbonara, chicken parmesan, etc. all hit the mark. Generous portions but not too much. We topped diner off with a couple of great desserts. An enjoyable experience in downtown Chicago. Kudos to the owners for installing an air filter system.

We celebrated Mother's Day a day early with lunch. . Food was delicious, service was attentive and decor is fresh and cozy.

We wanted to try something different this time when we came to Chicago this time. I did some research and this place came up. The restaurant has a cool vibe to it. The decor is very nice. It is not real loud inside. We both ordered the bucatini carbonara. It was good, but not the best we have ever had. The service was overall pretty good. What we did not like though is that there was a bus boy standing there waiting for us to finish something...anything, and he cleared it, came back, repeated the same process. We felt very rushed. It was not even busy so there was no rush. Overall, it was a fine meal, but I am not sure that this would be the first place I think of going for a good Italian meal.

Somebody who knows a lot more about restaurants than I do will have to explain why Nonnina isn't ranked among the top 10 restaurants in Chicago. The menu alone is worthy of four or five stars. From the folks who gave us Piccolo Sogno comes Nonnina, which opened on June 27, 2016 at 340 North Clark Street in the River North neighborhood. Chef Gabby Hernandez' old-school cooking style has quickly turned this upscale destination featuring classic Italian specialties and modern takes on beloved family recipes into a "come estai" attraction. The food is so good that they have a grab-and-go counter service so you can take some of it home with you. On our first visit, we tried some of the unique items, things you don't see on other menus. Of course, we started with some old favorites, bruschetta and minestrone and Caesar salad. That's as Italian as you can get. For an entree, we decided to sample the the most expensive item ($36) on the menu, Timpano della Nonnina, baked pasta stuffed with eggs, sausage, meatballs, mortadella, macaroni, mozzarella, tomato, braised pork and salami. It serves 2-4 and takes 30 minutes to prepare. It's too much for two (we took the rest home), unless you are NFL linemen, but it is worth the wait. Next time we'll try the shrimp and spaghetti or stuffed ravioli or veal scallopine alla Marsala or breaded Berkshire pork chop or chicken parmigiana. For dessert, we passed up traditional tiramisu, gelato, sorbet and dark chocolate mousse in favor of Nonnina's signature Neapolitan, layers of Sicilian pistachio, cherry and chocolate gelato, Amarena cherries and chocolate ganache. Yes indeed, it was a memorable evening. And Nonnina has been in business for only 10 months. It's scary to think what they could do with more experience.

Nonnina offers excellent food, great service and a comfortable atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience with colleagues. Great homemade pastas (including meatballs that were some the best I've eaten), salads and soups. Nice wine list with a variety of price points and options. I will return.

Well, the Desert is great and so is the food Our hotel staff has recommended the restaurant and we had No expectations Went there and we were pleasantly surprised ! We had Caesar Salad, Chicken Parmigiana, and Ravioli- the good was delicious Desert - you must have the tiramisu and the cannolis (we order some more as late night desert in our room) The service is professional and very very friendly The cost was good Basically we loved it and highly recommend it and obviously when back in Chicago we will be back at Nonnina Thank you

I am no great Italian food lover, but Nonnina might convert me. The cost was very reasonable. I ate with a large group and shared some foods. They were all very good. The wait staff was attentive and well timed. The place was packed and I see why. The very good food with the reasonable price along with staff made this stop a good one. I'd look forward to returning!

My husband and I had dinner for our anniversary here and were very pleased with the Choice. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. A bottle of Prisoner was only $75, a steal for any restaurant wine list not to mention downtown Chicago! The calamari rosemary appetizer was full of flavor, beet and Cesar salads were good portions and the house special Nonnina for 2-4 people was really for 4-8 people! Yummy yummy! We were surprised with chocolate moose for a special anniversary treat from Rodrigo and Ricardo. Nice touch! Highly recommended! Thank you!

Our experience was great from start to finish. We were greeted immediately and given our choice of tables. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. We had the meatball appetizer and it was excellent. The gnocchi main dish was flavorful and had a wonderful sauce. The carbonara pasta was also delicious. Prices were very reasonable. Didn’t get dessert. We were too full. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I learned about Nonnina while walking on the street with a friend looking for dinner, it turned out great! We shared a prosciutto pizza and rissoto. We washed things down with beer and some nice mezcal. I would def. come back.

This restaurant is fabulous. The food is excellent and the service is top notch. We asked for a wine recommendation and the bottle they chose was excellent and not over priced. I had the pasta carbonara and my wife had the steak. Both were outstanding.

Excellent service by Nash. The appetizers were delicious .. we absolutely love the beets salad with the burrata cheese. The pasta with Duck and the prosciutto pizza were wonderful. So tasty and the thin crust pizza was perfectly cooked. We enjoyed the italian wines by the glass Very good selection of wines with raisonnable price. A charming place with tasty food.

As visitors to the city we lived in for thirty years we were anxious for a new food experience. Nonnina exceeded our expectation. Attentive service and flavorful food served piping hot did the trick. Uncharacteristically, we gave our server Ubaldo a price point and preferences and asked him to select the wine. The Nobile Carpineto was a perfect match to the duck parpadelle and risotto special which we enjoyed immensely.

Every single aspect of Nonnina is client friendly, delicious and memorable. We were very impressed with everything from the ambiance to our waiter Uvaldo, and the quality and freshness of the food. The cauliflower appetizer was superb - spicy enough and a new "take" on an often maligned vegetable. The chopped antipasta salad with soppresetta was light and delicious. The sage and butternut squash ravioli was excellent. (They make their pasta in-house). For dessert we had the cannoli - crispy shell with a filling of ricotta, citrus and chocolate chips. The coconut panna cotta was divine. Their espresso is delightful. We can't say enough good about Nonnina. From the moment we arrived and were warmly greeted to when we left - full of terrific food and wine, to the management, it was all very impressive. We can't wait to return.

To be successful in the restaurant business in Chicago you must have an excellent eatery along with great waiters and management, and course, great food. Nonnina is as good as it gets..Comfortable surroundings, great owner Ricardo, always present to say hello; Valet parking a must; and great cuisine. My wife and frequent Nonnina and we have never been disappointed...Try it you will love it>... backed clams to die for and wonderful, homemade pasta..

From the team that brought us Piccolo Sogno comes Nonnina, grandma's recipes in a sleek atmosphere with a unique grab-and-go counter. Located at 340 North Clark Street in the bustling River North neighborhood, Nonnina is an upscale Italian restaurant serving classic Italian specialties, small plates, pizza and takeaway options. It is a particular favorite of ours because of its delicious array of seafood dishes and desserts. We started with minestrone, Caesar salad and veal and pork meatballs with beef short rib and tomato sauce. The list of fish dishes presented another problem. Which one? We were particularly bamboozled because the menu featured four of our favorites--whitefish, Dover sole, grouper and salmon. If that wasn't enough, the menu also included veal scallopine, another favorite. My wife finally settled on grilled Scottish salmon with fingerling potatoes. I opted for oven-roasted whitefish with broccoli. But the pan-seared grouper, breaded, over Capellini pasta, with Julienne carrots was very enticing. On to dessert. Another tough decision. My wife chose cannoli with whipped ricotta, chocolate, candied citrus and pistachios. I blew off the calorie counter with the Neapolitan, layers of Sicilian pistachio, cherry and chocolate gelato with Amarena cherries and chocolate ganache. But how about the dark chocolate mousse or the blueberry tart with vanilla gelato and blackberry sauce? Is that was the grab-and-go counter is designed for?

We enjoyed a Lovely meal on the enclosed porch with our brothers and sis-in-laws for our anniversary. Water and Basket of Bread were served immediately, always appreciated. Fernando was our waiter and he couldn't have been more attentive - he checked in with us Multiple times throughout our meal. Everyone enjoyed their salads and entrees - I had the Ravioli capio en pepe which was particularly delicious. I told them I was allergic to garlic and onions and I waited a wee bit longer for my entree than the rest of the party but I appreciated their special attention regarding my allergies. The blueberry crostata tasted just fair but it was specially decorated for our anniversary. I believe I heard Fernando say that they would only charge for 1 dessert (we ordered 2) since we were celebrating a special occasion. It didn't hurt that it was an Especially Beautiful Evening in Chicago to eat outside, rather a rarity in our city. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our time at this establishment, including the excellent service we received - definitely recommend!
Delicious
Would rate a 4.5 if possible. The Grotto Misti appetizer was excellent; calamari, shrimp, scallops, zucchini, with lemon wedges. The wedge salad and egg drop with spinach soup was also very good. For entrees we had white fish and pasta with mushrooms which were excellent. A busy place with attentive service.
