Looking for a place for breakfast and saw good reviews on trip advisor and glad we went. We had to wait a few minutes to get seated but was blown away by how big the place is. I think we went thru three rooms before we were seated. Probably the best meal I had in the four days I was in Chicago . Besides all the food being really good and fresh the prices were reasonable. Two pancakes two eggs hash browns were more than enough for one meal. Great place to go.

A quick two minute walk from the Hotel Lincoln. i really liked this place. Friendly service, good sized portions. I ordered a chorizo, mushroom, bacon and cheese omellete, with hash browns. My daughter had a waffle with strawberries. Everything was flavorful, althought I did not really enjoy the coffee. It had a strange odd flavor. But i did enjoy the comfortable welcoming feel walking into this place. Its obviously a neighborhood staple.

Best brunch I had in Chicago with the enchiladas. It was so delicious. Simple place for great food. A place to test

Had breakfast here a couple of times during a recent vacation. It was recommended by our hotel (the Lincoln) staff. Good food at very reasonable prices, and good service as well.

Ate here twice for breakfast. They also have lunch and dinner, but can't speak for that. Pretty large selection of classic breakfast items and a few not so classic. My favorite were the crepes. I got the assortment of 3 (blueberry, strawberry and apple cinnamon). Delicious. Good service. Large portions. Didn't wait on the food. Even have some limited outside seating. I did think the coffee was a little odd, but will definitely go back.

The line moves quickly so be patient! All of these people know that Nookies does not disappoint!! Huge portions and budget friendly value can be found here. This is a family owned favorite that you should not pass up. The servers are fast and friendly, and the menu selections are vast. It feels like a cozy diner and even has fresh squeezed OJ if you bring your own Bubbly (BYOB) for Mimosas! I would highly recommend it to anyone as one of my favorites for breakfast!!

The food was great. Very large portions. The service was good too. So glad I went and will go back again when I am in Chicago.

Very close to Lincoln Hotel which made this an easy choice for breakfast. I ordered one of the 3-egg omelets and my wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. The omelet was actually pretty large for being 3-eggs with ham and american cheese. Tasty too! My wife's was a little more bland. Not a ton of flavor. The toast was good. Service was decent, prompt and for the most part, left us alone once we ordered. Turn around was fast....I think we were in and out in about 35-40 minutes total.

I like this informal restaurant. It seems to attract a neighborhood crowd for all meals. ate there twice over four days. Once for breakfast - (migas) and once for lunch (burger). I would go back anytime. Always felt comfortable.

Start with a carafe of fresh orange juice! Good food and good service. Nice selection for breakfast even if you are picky

We loved Nookie's for its extensive and reasonable menu. Great service and bottomless coffee tastes delicious. Portions are generous so breakfast serves as brunch.

Food was awesome, huge servings, and affordable! Located just a couple blocks from Hotel Lincoln- and far superior to the restaurants in the hotel.

Nookies is a really nice place for brunch. There is plenty of seating inside or you can sit outside. The coffee was good and plentiful. We had the french toast with raspberry sauce and easy over eggs with hash browns and sausage. Both meals were quite large and delicious. It was very busy when we ate here and the service was excellent.

Had brunch at Nookies when we went down for the Van Gogh experience. Nice location, good staff and good food. I didn't really see any super unique items on the menu, but there was a nice variety. We ate outside as it was a nice day. Service was relatively quick , we had the opportunity to visit with the owner. I'd definitely try this establishment again if I were in the area. it appears to be a local favorite.

We enjoyed our lunch here and would recommend the omelette! Toast was delicious too! Lots of locals!

What a pleasant surprise! Both the creamy mushroom risotto and the grilled fish with lemon butter that we received were delicious! The amounts were substantial, the presentation was exquisite, and the tastes were deep. Everything was expertly seasoned and tasted so fresh. The entire trip was enhanced by the staff's friendliness and attentiveness. Unquestionably one of the greatest restaurants we've recently found. I heartily suggest it to everyone who enjoys delicious meals and friendly service! I'm eager to return soon!

We had three breakfasts and an evening meal here during a recent stay. It's a pleasant family style eatery in an affluent and safe part of the northern Chicago suburbs. The food was reasonably priced and generally good quality. Lots of choice on the menu.

My two daughters, my wife, and I went to the Green City Market in Lincoln Park to hear Rick Bayless speak and do a cooking demo. After visiting the Green City Market, my youngest daughter suggested eating at this restaurant. The restaurant was crowded and there was a wait, but the wait wasn't too long. The restaurant is quaint and not very big. We enjoyed our food and the service was great. Try this place out.

My first time here and def not my last! Met a friend today and recommended me to come here and I love it! And the best part it's byob 🍷🍷

The salad as a starter is very good, the food is like mom cooked it for me, a really full plate. It is not expensive, it is a lot and the people working there are very nice. Being in the old town of Chicago, which you should, go and have diner here! Be aware, no alcohol available!

It was a rainy Chicago day. We three were tourists looking for a cup of coffee and a quick breakfast. The coffee was great, the smokehouse frittata was better and the 3 crepes were the best. $41.85 Yum . Fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, and sweet cream cheese. Hats off to the chef. The manager greeted us as we entered, a switch up from the usual Chicago experience. Thanks to all

we were so happy to find this place to have breakfast the next morning close to the Hotel Lincoln very good food, quiet enough to hold a conversation with friends and a good price very attentive staff~ quick service and food came out fast it was wonderful!! wish it was closer to home

Went to Chicago for a weekend and stopped in twice at Nookies location in the historic district in North Chicago near the lakefront. Food was very good and so went once for dinner and once for breakfast. If you want to visit this location, the downside is there is no parking. The neighborhood is full of apartment buildings and the streets are parked full of cars. It's right of the red line commuter train so if hunger strikes I would recommend taking the red line instead of driving.

The menu is overwhelming in a good way. i always judge a diner on the soup of the day. Broccoli soup that warmed my soul. The fun twist on a monte-cristo was a hit.

Oh my goodness - Nookies has the best omelettes. Ever. I've visited with friends in the past and we went back during our anniversary trip to Chicago and Nookies did not disappoint. I barely finished half of my omelette. Great brunch, as aways.

A great neighborhood place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Egg dishes were sizeable, tasty, and reasonably priced. Service was also fast and friendly.

I visited Nookies with some family members while in the Chicago area. It's tucked away in an Old Town neighborhood, and I could tell it's a place where the locals hang out. My family apparently goes there with great regularity, because they were greeted as friends. It was busy and there was a little wait, but well worth it. Two of us had the seasonal stuffed french toast with berries - oh, my, spectacular! Good service, worked to accommodate the stroller we had with us, great visit all around. Would definitely come back next time I'm in the area!

The first time my wife and I noticed Nookies at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood was during a Sunday morning stroll. Breakfast was so popular that customers were standing in line outside. Nookies always attracts rave reviews for its breakfast and I'm particularly enamored with their fresh squeezed orange juice from California. But we're lunch people. I still order a big glass of orange juice with several items from their big lunch menu, including a cup of chicken and rice soup, a tossed green salad with tomatoes and onions and a hard-boiled egg and a turkey burger or corned beef sandwich or a Patty Melt or a Monte Cristo or a pulled pork sandwich. My wife is addicted to a Belgian waffle with strawberries or a pulled pork sandwich or a crepe with apples or turkey burger. There is always so much to choose from and it's hot and fresh and delicious. Business is always buzzing at Nookies, which has been satisfying customers since 1973 and features two rooms and a counter. On our most recent visit, my wife ordered French toast. There was so much that she took most of it home for dinner. I opted for one of my favorites...a large glass of skim milk, a large glass of orange juice (the best you've ever tasted), a bowl of cream of mushroom soup, a tossed salad with greens, onions, croutons, cucumbers and tomatoes, and warm, fresh Italian bread with butter. We visit Nookies once or twice a month and we have never been disappointed. You won't be, either.

I ate here for dinner & breakfast - both experiences were very positive. Fast, efficient & friendly service.

Hubby and I went for 3 breakfasts while in Chicago. Very generous servings, good prices and fast service.

We went to Nookies on a Monday morning while in the area for a weekend getaway. We were seated promptly, given a choice of areas to sit in. We ordered and were served promptly. The fresh squeezed orange juice was very good. Portions were huge. I had the artichoke frittata (very good) and my husband had eggs. His over easy eggs were not really over easy, but OK. He said the sourdough toast was great. I had asked for the hash brown potatoes to be cooked dark, and they were perfect for us. All in all, a good breakfast.

We had breakfast there a few weeks ago and were so glad we did. The place is much bigger inside than it looks from the street. We got there early (around 9) on a Saturday and had no wait but when we left there was quite a long line of people to get in. The coffee was delicious as was the food. My husband had a chorizo skillet that he said was great. We ordered a breakfast "sampler" for the table that included three different types of pancakes/french toast/waffle. It was so good and beautiful to look at. People from other tables even asked about it!

We stopped by because it was close to where we were staying. The menu looked so good that the server had to come back two times before we ordered. I ordered a dish with poached eggs. The poached eggs had runny yolks which were delicious. If you go, go hungry. My portions was larger than I could finish.

Excellent diner, got the Huevos Ranchero and they weekend goooood... Prices and service are fine, i'll be back on Saturday 😁

Small pleasant cafe breakfast and lunch cafe on Wells Avenue near Lincoln Park farm, zoo, Hotel Lincoln. Good sized portions - omlets are substantial and quite a choice on the menu. Coffee was not robust, not great and would suggest that management pay more attention to this important detail.

It took my wife and I a few years to discover Nookies restaurant at 1746 North Wells Street in the heart of the historic Old Town neighborhood. But once we did, it only took a few minutes to realize it truly is a neighborhood restaurant, a friendly gathering place for young and old, businessmen and retirees, ladies that lunch and veterans from streets and san. Eat at the counter or on the front patio or in one of three dining rooms. Service is fast and friendly. The bottle of water and coffee is on the table before you sit down. And the fresh squeezed California orange juice? How many times have I written that Nookies' orange juice is the very best I've ever tasted? And I've spent more than 60 years in Florida. Over the years, we've sampled many of the options on the menu, from spaghetti to hot turkey sandwich to turkey burgers to Monte Cristo to pulled pork sandwich to Eggs Benedict to corned beef hash to cheeseburgers. But mostly we opt for a cup of chicken rice or tomato pasta soup and a big plate of tossed greens salad with tomatoes and hard boiled eggs and 1,000 Island dressing with fresh French bread and butter and French toast smothered with fresh strawberries. Wash it down with big glasses of orange juice and skim milk. Sounds healthy, doesn't it?

While in Chicago over Easter weekend, we went to Lincoln Park Zoo on Easter. After parking, Nookies was just a 2 block walk from the zoo, so we headed there about 11 am to eat first. The food was fantastic. I got the spring trio which included cherry compote pancakes and it was AMAZING! My son got a uniquely seasoned cheeseburger that was delicious, my wife got a Cajun/chipotle chicken that she said was perfect, and my daughter went with a pasta dish that we all kept sampling because it was so good. We left stuffed, looking forward to walking it off at the zoo. We can't wait to be in the neighborhood again to eat at Nookies again. Waitress was efficient and polite. The place was crowded. I believe it closes around 2 pm daily, so call ahead if you're going in the afternoon to make sure they are open.

Between this original Nookies and Nookies Too and Nookies Tree I’ve never had a bad experience. I just Love this classic Greek diner that’s owned by Greeks!

I’ve been eating here and meeting friends here for at least 20 years! It’s my “go to” place for brunch. It’s always full of mainly locals and the staff is extremely friendly and most have been there for a very long time! They have an excellent range of breakfast, lunch and dinner choices. The sandwiches and entrees all come with soup. And my favorite thing is their fluffy egg white veggie omelette or the artichoke frittata. Omelettes are large and packed with fillings and come with delicious hash browns and toast or bagel. I always ask for a toasted sesame bagel. I also love their grilled chicken Caesar salad and their turkey and Swiss croissant sandwich. You can’t go wrong with this place. And during the summer, it’s just a short walk down to Lincoln Park, zoo, lake and shopping along Wells Street.

Had a wonderful lunch and got to eat out doors. A little pricey, but the food is excellent. Many healthy options.

I loved eating breakfast at this retro diner where you can sit in seats like the old style diners from the 50s and meet your neighbors sitting next to you!

Our party of 8 walked over after visiting the Van Gogh exhibit. Lovely spot, nicely tucked away. Great food, attentive servers. Highly recommend!

Handed out water at the Marathon station near Lincoln Park Zoo, then short walk to Nookies for breakfast. Me and 3 teen age boys devoured our eggs, hash browns, and toast. 1st time at Nookies and will return when when in the neighborhood.

According to the majority of the reviews this a restaurant not be missed. It was also recommended by one of the staff members of the Lincoln Hotel where we stayed. The place looks like nothing has changed since the past 30 years. We had breakfast here, nothing special, just okay, coffee was mwah. I could not find out what makes this place so special.

This restaurant is within walking distance of the hotel that we stayed at and it was worth braving the cold February winds to get there. Delightful choices for breakfast. Large portions as well as delicious. Topped with great service. Surprisingly not a sticker shock to the wallet either. Nookies is a great way to start the day, if not every day!!

Found by accident during a stroll and it was perfect for evening full meal kind of dining in Old Town area. The owner was quite engaging and made the good food experience even better. Went back the following morning for a great breakfast. An old school diner with updated and varied menu that is sure to please all but food snobs that want to pay more to get less and have their plates decorated instead of filled.

Went here for breakfast. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent. Would definitely go back!

Stopped in here while walking around the city. This place has some of the best hamburgers around. Great atmosphere, Great Service. As I said, the hamburgers were delicious. Each in our party of 4 loved theirs. Fun little place that seemed tucked away from the hustle and bustle.

I eat here every time I'm in Chicago! They have a great selection of food , big portions, speedy service. Great service

What a great place. It says it’s a diner and it has diner food but so much more. 8 of us all loved our food from my special Paris Benedict (with gruyere cheese and asparagus) to Bessys skillet to cinnamon roll pancakes. Clean warm atmosphere. Can’t wait to go again

This is a reliable Neighborhood Diner with a large menu and tasty food. Prices are reasonable, and service is good. For dessert, try the triple chocolate cake - it's truly decadent!

I found this little gem of a restaurant on trip advisor and read the wonderful reviews people had written and wanted to try it out for myself. The moment we walked in the atmosphere was so inviting; Right before Christmas everyone was in the holiday spirit. The service was amazing, the food came out quickly and very hot. Exactly what we ordered, the coffee came hot and often. The prices..... All very good. We had breakfast and can't wait to go back for lunch and dinner.

Nookies serves some very good breakfast. We popped in with a group of twelve, including some kids. They were very accommodating and made sure that we got a seating arrangement that worked for us. All the food we had was very good. They're toast was exceptional. Serving sizes were average or a little larger. I would definitely cone here again.

I was impressed with the extensive menu. There were even abundant choices for the vegan in your family.Staff was excellent.

Our last US breakfast on a 6-week trip. Handy for Lincoln Hotel. Weak coffee but a very good range of breakfasts: pancakes (I had blueberry pancakes), eggs, omelettes, etc

Went there on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Food was ok but nothing outstanding and the service, outside of the rudeness by the girl at the front desk, was friendly. I felt it was a bit pricey for what we got. There are better places for breakfast/brunch in Lincoln park and Old Town.

Great place for breakfast. Service was good, coffee was hot and food was delicious. Great for groups or individuals.

My wife and I miss Nookies. Since we discovered this quaint and friendly neighborhood restaurant several years ago, we make frequent visits for breakfast or lunch. Located at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, it is like a home away from home, serving the kind of comfort food that we enjoy at home. The menu is comprehensive, something for everybody. But we have our favorites. Over the years, I have submitted review after review touting Nookies' fresh squeezed orange juice, the best and sweetest I have ever tasted, even in Florida. That may seem like a small thing but it always gets my breakfast or lunch off to a good start. "Fresh and friendly since 1973" is their motto and that's the way it is. For lunch, my favorite is a healthy bowl of rice and barley soup with a large tossed salad of greens, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, cucumbers, onions and 1,000 Island dressing. My wife opts for either a Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries or a pulled pork sandwich that never disappoints. Most reviews praise Nookies' breakfast--and I certainly enjoy their Eggs Benedict--but lunch deserves its props, too.

I ordered an Amy's omelette with hash browns, and because I eat gluten free, they gave me fruit instead of toast. Portions were very large, and I took all the very fresh fruit home with me to eat the following day. All was delicious!

I pop into this place quite often for a weekday lunch. We sit at the bar & are served instantly. The split pea soup with homemade croutons is awesome. On the weekends there is always a long line so they must be doing something right. The price is reasonably and you get plenty of food on your plate.

I know it sounds silly to say that I like a restaurant because it serves the best tasting orange juice I've ever had. But it's true. As I have written several times in other reviews, Nookies at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, serves fresh squeezed California orange juice that tastes sweeter and fresher than any brand of orange juice I've ever had anywhere else. It's healthy and it's good for you. Breakfast or lunch, I always order a large glass. Try it for yourself and see if I'm not right. My wife and I discovered Nookies years ago while taking a Sunday stroll through the neighborhood. It's a popular destination for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. That's how I discovered the orange juice. My mother used to prepare a glass of orange juice for me before I went off to school in the 1940s and 1950s. I never forgot. For us, breakfast at Nookies is a pecan Belgian waffle with strawberries or three crepes filled with cinnamon apples or strawberries or corned beef hash with two scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast or traditional Eggs Benedict, two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce and hash browns. Lunch doesn't change for my wife. She still prefers a pecan Belgian waffle with strawberries, sometimes a pulled pork sandwich with special BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. My lunch tastes lean to tomato pasta soup or chicken with rice soup and a turkey and Swiss sandwich or a pulled pork sandwich or a Monster Melt, a huge hamburger patty on grilled rye bread with cheddar cheese and grilled onions, or a plate of chicken tenders with honey mustard. Whatever your choice, it's sure to please. But don't forget the orange juice.

It isn't often that you see a restaurant review that touts the orange juice. But Nookies deserves the accolade. I've written it before and I'm writing it again. Nookies' fresh squeezed orange juice, made from California oranges, is the sweetest and freshest and most delicious I've ever tasted. Located at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, Nookies has been offering orange juice with all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1973. Open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, this is the flagship of the Alexopoulos family's four local restaurants. The others are located in Lakeview, Lincoln Park and Edgewater. My wife and I have been regulars at Nookies since we moved into the Gold Coast neighborhood in 1983, about five blocks from the restaurant. We usually arrive between 11 and noon, then choose breakfast or lunch, depending on our mood or taste. For breakfast, it's orange juice, Belgian waffle with strawberries, Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, Canadian bacon, English muffin and hollandaise sauce with hash brown potatoes or corned beef hash with two poached eggs, hash browns and toast. For lunch, I opt for a tossed salad with mixed lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and croutons with a bowl of tomato pasta or rice and barley soup with bread or a hot turkey sandwich, open-faced with mashed potatoes and gravy or a Monte Cristo sandwich with ham, turkey and Swiss cheese on French toast. My wife's favorites are turkey a burger, a turkey and Swiss on a croissant or a pulled pork sandwich on a brioche bun with BBQ sauce. Service is swift and friendly, food is hot and fresh and the atmosphere is neighborly.

Was right behind our hotel so walked there for breakfast one morning. Very nice meal. Food portions are large. Staff was great. Food was awesome.

At one time this were you took your Saturday night date to have a Sunday breakfast to show here off. No more. The place is dated. I mean very dated. You could do better some were else

After being on the road for a month, it's always a good feeling to return home and have lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Nookies, at 1746 North Wells Street in historic Old Town neighborhood. How many times have we had breakfast or lunch at Nookies in the last five years? I've lost count. But I've written about a dozen reviews, all favorable. Mostly, I've raved about the fresh squeezed orange juice from California. I've never tasted anything so sweet and delicious, even in Florida. Nookies is a friendly place, a popular destination for locals, with a breakfast/lunch/dinner menu that covers all bases and keeps customers smiling from dawn to dusk. On our return, my wife and I beat a trail to Nookies on North Wells and ordered one of our favorite "comfort meals." My wife had brioche French toast with strawberries and blueberries. I had a glass of orange juice, a glass of skim milk, a bowl of chicken with rice soup, Italian bread and butter, and a large tossed salad with greens, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, croutons and 1,000 Island dressing. One thing was new, our waitress, Taryn, friendly and attentive, who joined the staff only recently. Welcome aboard.

One of the best breakfasts ever! Service was excellent and the menu offered many choices. It is worth traveling to for a good meal.

good breakfast with pretty standard fare. Casual neighborhood location with good service and reasonable prices.

Our party of two couldn't decide on breakfast or lunch, so we went to Nookies, where we knew we could get both. We had one order of eggs, sausage, potatoes, and toast; and one burger with bacon, mushrooms, onions (and salad subbed for fries). Everything was cooked and seasoned just right. Portions were generous (burger also came with soup). Service was outstanding: friendly, helpful, and very attentive. Decor is light, bright, and cheery. We loved it.

The pancakes here are delicious be sure to start your day with breakfast here at Nookies. No matter what you get you can't go wrong

This is my 10th review of Nookies restaurant at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood. For breakfast or lunch, my wife and I think it's as good as it gets. As I explained once before, we discovered Nookies several years ago while taking a leisurely Sunday morning walk in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. What amazed us was the fact that the restaurant was crowded with customers standing in line outside the front door. What we have learned is it is always crowded on weekends. So we usually go to Nookies on Wednesday or Friday. The service is fast and friendly. A pitcher of water is delivered to your table before you sit down. The menu is expansive. For starters, I always order a large glass of skim milk, a large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice (how many times have I said that Nookies' orange juice is the best I have ever tasted?) and a cup of tomato pasta or chicken and rice soup. Where do we go from there? My wife has a thing for Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries or French toast or a pulled pork sandwich. I prefer a tossed green salad with tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, cucumber, red onions, croutons and 1,000 Island dressing and French bread with butter or a turkey burger or a patty melt or grilled salmon. If we arrive earlier, I'll order Eggs Benedict or corned beef hash with scrambled eggs. It's always fresh and hot and affordable, a friendly neighborhood restaurant that has accumulated and retained a large and loyal following over the years.

We stayed at a hotel around the corner and discovered this place when we were browsing the neighbourhood. Had lunch there and the next 2 breakfasts we had there too. Typical American food, nice staff but most important: fresh food

Tragically, we thought we had lost a close friend. Fortunately, we hadn't. After being closed for more than a month because of the Coronavirus, Nookies restaurant at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood has reopened. My wife and I missed our weekly visits to Nookies, the family-owned local chain with the friendly service, all-day breakfast, tasty lunches and the sweetest, freshest tasting orange juice this side of California. On our long-awaited return, my wife ordered her favorite, a Belgian waffle with strawberries, while I enjoyed a bowl of tomato pasta soup and a Monster Melt, a juicy piece of broiled hamburger beef on grilled rye bread with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. And a glass of orange juice. A visit to Nookies, which is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with its comprehensive menu and friendly neighborhood vibe, always is a pleasant experience. No more shutdowns, please.

Great place, great food, great service. Sat outside, solo. Quiet & peaceful. Food was delicious, many options to choose from. I settled for the Best Sandwich that's the name & apt description.

Over the last several days we have had 3 breakfasts and one lunch here. The food is tasty and delivered quickly. Very friendly staff. Definitely recommend this place!

Street parking may be very difficult to obtain. Consider taking an alternate means of transportation. Utilitarian ambiance. Irregular service. Good soup. Average to good food. Very large number of selections on the menu. Irritatingly thin paper for napkins. Weak coffee.

We had a great breakfast there for a reasonable price. It's not fancy and there were lots of locals. Not a tourist trap. It is very close to Lincoln park.

The owner gave our group of 6 an excellent windowed room. Private, peaceful, with good wine (wine from Crete was best) and food food, attentive service. Highly recommended.

We came here for lunch one day and breakfast the next. Though we weren’t impressed much with the lunch, it was okay and the service was great. Breakfast on the other hand was incredible! I wished I was hungry enough to try more items! My husbands omelette was still piping hot at the table and my pancakes were so fluffy and the flavor was like a mild vanilla. I know I’m gonna crave these later! The staff was great and fast- we were impressed!

Nookies in Old Town is the original and different from the one on Bryn Mawr. The outside area is very relaxed. The inside is less structured, like a home converted to a restaurant. I sat at the counter. The whole feel of the place is different, less formal. Both laces have good food and good servers. The Old Town one has a more casual attitude even from the people. I like the Bryn Mawr one with it's efficient ordered atmosphere but the Old Town one is easier for a person alone as it fits around you. I feel less alone here and welcome. Both are very good places and can fill your needs.

Wife and I visited Nookies for the first time. We both had omelettes. They were excellent --- loaded with ingredients and cooked correctly. They also came with hash browns that were homemade -- no frozen or tater tots. We had great service, always checking on us for coffee and water. We got the food right off the grill. The waiter had to use towels draped over his hands to bring the hot plates to the table. The restaurant is in an old building, with old decor along with the 15 foot ceiling. Sort of a hole-in-the-wall place, but clean. Just the kind of place we like. The only negative has been stated by other reviewers --- coffee is not very good. We definitely intend to go back and try dinner.

There is a great variety of foods both for breakfast and lunch. Excellent food-eggs benedict was perfect. We had a great server that was attentive to refilling coffee's and drinks. Would go back again!

We are another family that has enjoyed nookies edgewater, and obviously enjoy nookies in old town. The differences are well-described, with this location feeling very cozy and caring. The service is efficient and the menu has wonderful variety. The food appears prepped with care and comes out HOT. A morning at Nookies Old Town is always the start of a good day!

Nookies had a wide and diverse menu. We are there twice; breakfast and lunch. It has a quaint diner atmosphere with attentive service and tasty food. We enjoyed both meals and it was located near Hotel Lincoln and Old Town. We enjoyed the experience, enough to go twice.

We were in Chicago for the Air Show and found this little gem within walking distance of our hotel. Had breakfast twice while we were in town. Food and service was perfect!

We enjoyed a filling and delicious breakfast here. The waitress was friendly and helpful with descriptions of what was good and where we might go to enjoy our day.

We came here for dinner after a day at the Chicago History Museum. We were very pleasantly surprised by how good the food was, and I was amazed that there were multiple vegetarian options available for me to choose from, something I don't usually get at diner type restaurants.

My wife and I arrived home in the late afternoon, completing our exhausting but uneventful 1,755-mile, three-day drive from Las Vegas, Nevada. With nothing in the refrigerator, we opted for the next best thing--a late dinner at Nookies, one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood. Located at 1746 North Wells Street, Nookies usually is our destination for breakfast or lunch. Open since 1973, it is known for its "Fresh and Friendly" food and service. Dinner is no exception. We had cups of chicken and rice and tomato pasta soup and shared a large tossed green salad with mixed lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, croutons and 1,000 Island dressing. My wife had an eight-ounce grilled salmon filet with green beans and rice. I had one of the house favorites, home-made meatloaf, with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach with garlic. Nothing fancy. Just good comfort food...fresh, hot and delicious. Welcome home, Chicago.

When we lived in Chicago, Nookies was always a Saturday/Sunday must! It hasn't changed. Still the best place for a wonderful and affordable breakfast/lunch.

Close to the Chicago History Museum, Nookies is a neighborhood joint offering creative diner fare. We intentionally ordered light in anticipation of a big dinner. Service was friendly but it felt like we waited a long time for our grilled cheese and tuna melt to arrive. The specialty breakfast creations going by were mouth-watering. We’d return to try them if back in the neighborhood with bigger appetites.

This place is a MUST for our weekend visits to the Windy city. Affordable and so many choices! Family owned staff who care about their customers. This place is truly the best!

Good breakfast at a reasonable price. Staff was polite and service was very good. If you like a traditional breakfast, this is the place.

We were there on Christmas Eve, looking for a late lunch. Many places were closed. When we found them, we saw that they were closing in half an hour. We went on in. They seated us immediately and took our order. Never did we feel rushed or that we were imposing. The food was good.

Had breakfast here at the recommendation of the hotel staff. Really good food, good coffee and attentive friendly service. I had a special; the Spring Fritata, it was really good. Prices were what I would expect for the area- was about $20 with a tip. Will go back

My wife and I have made Nookies one of our favorite go-to destinations for breakfast or lunch for more than 30 years. The family owned local chain--this is the flagship location at 1746 North Wells Street in the historic Old Town neighborhood but there are three others at 2114 North Halsted, 3334 North Halsted and 1100 West Bryn Mawr--has been delighting local diners since 1973 with a motto that says it all: "Fresh and Friendly." Nothing fancy, just good comfort food, hot and fresh and delicious. Over the years, we have established some favorites--like Eggs Benedict, Belgian waffle with strawberries, Brioche French Toast and corned beef hash with has browns for breakfast and eight-ounce grilled salmon, house-made meatloaf, turkey burger, hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, pulled pork, Monte Cristo, Reuben, turkey and Swiss croissant and Monster Melt on grilled rye with cheddar cheese and grilled onions for lunch. Of course, we always start with a big glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, the best and sweetest I've ever tasted, Caesar salad, chicken tenders and tomato pasta or chicken with rice soup. The service is friendly and attentive. Water and coffee are at the table before we arrive. What did we have on our most recent visit? My wife opted for a Belgian waffle with strawberries while I enjoyed a hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. With orange juice. It's a wonderful and popular neighborhood gathering spot.

I always have wonderful, healthy meals here. Delicious! I especially love the vegetable omelette. Generous portions, healthy, and you can make whatever changes you need for your diet.

Great place, big menu, good service, friendly establishment 👍. Served me quickly even though I didn't have a reservation too. Good selection of hot sauce!

Me and my wife was walking around in Chicago when we stumbled upon this place. I love the community vibe I get from this place. If I was a local I could see myself eating here daily. This place is family owned. Not fancy, but really good food. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and potato soup. The sandwich was really good and the potato soup was one of the best I have ever had. Also, the customer service was really good.

Four adults, three kids, food was good and service was fast. Nice neighborhood place, good location and friendly service.

We just had one meal at Nookies, but I would have chosen to eat there again if we had stayed longer. It is not always easy to find a friendly atmosphere, quick service and good healthy food in one restaurant but Nookies had it all.

Clean, tidy, good staff, big portions of food. We particularly loved the eggs Benedict and the coffee here. We visited 3 times during our stay in Chicago, and noticed that was popular with the locals too!

Impressive omelettes filled the plate at this local diner. Three eggs and some great choices for fillings. In fact the bacon, cheddar and apple one was unique and tasty. The Greek featured spinach and feta. Hash browns or fresh fruit come alongside your choice of fresh breads. These were filling and delicious omelettes. The coffee was plentiful and the service friendly.

My daughter and I loved our brunch! Food was delicious, wait wasn't bad (and exactly time quoted), great service and atmosphere! Cute neighborhood as well!

I had a giant & very good breakfast with huckleberry pancakes (huge !) , eggs, bacon and potatoes. I did not expect something this big and it was the perfect full american breakfast before my flight to Europe. I will definitely be back.

We came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I had a smokehouse frittata which was very tasty. The coffee was good and our waiter Freddy kept it coming. I will be back the next time we’re here.

Every time I visit Chicago I get a short Lyft ride to Nookies. Food is always consistently great, friendly staff and fairly priced. Love this hideaway that most tourists do not know about. Always fun to walk around the neighborhood before and after.

Incredible brunch but gets busy if you get there right at 11:00-12:00 on a weekend. Line will look long but the longest I’ve waited is 30 minutes. Incredible selection of food and all very consistently made. Highly recommend for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Haven’t gone at dinner time but their menu looks delicious for any time of day. This is a local spot that you have to try. Also near Old Town/Lincoln Park and the Lincoln park zoo. If you come on a Saturday during the summer, you’re a one block walk from the incredible Lincoln Park farmers market. You can definitely made a morning out of brunch here and a walk through the lovely neighborhood and park.

Large menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Kind service that recognized us the second time; fast and yummy!

My husband and I tried this for lunch and ordered a salad and huevos chorizo. The service was excellent and the kitchen prepared the food very quickly. We enjoyed our meals and the pricing was very reasonable. There are a few outdoor tables but it was too warm to sit outside.

My husband and I "breakfasted" here when we lived in the high rise across the street in 1976 and still do when we are in the neighborhood at breakfast time. Traditional breakfast food. Good eggs benedict.

Only in town 3 day and i had breakfast here twice. I love to take people here. I moved away 10 years ago but I can still show the "locals" something they might not know about.

Nookies, a Lincoln Park mainstay has been a good stopping point for many years. Great for a fast meal before enjoying the many great places to visit within the Lincoln Park or for that breakfast you have to have to cap off great night on the town. Traditional fare is always consist and you will get plenty to eat.

I came to Nookies through an acquaintance who invited me to lunch. Being a foreigner it was unlikely that she would enter. My friend is a volunteer tour guide and is from Chicago. Beautiful place. In capital letters because the atmosphere is very nice, the food is delicious and abundant, an extensive and varied menu, careful and cordial service. The salads are huge (the Santa Fe is delicious). Water and coffee included. To recommend!

This is a lovely bustling cafe, with ample seating, a warm atmosphere, great menus selections, and friendly efficient staff. Great music choice too.

A fun spot with great food and good service. Offers a beautiful outdoor area and seating along the sidewalk, or a cozy/bright inside area with counter service too. Coffee is Lavanzza (so good). Very innovative specials. Eggs Florentine were very good, spinach was sooo nice fresh. Hollandaise was a bit salty for me but I did eat the whole thing! Closes at 3 or 4 depending on the day and you can bring wine at lunch for a $14 corkage fee.

We went here for a quick dinner prior to a Second City show. As we were a bit early the place was nearly empty. We got really quick service and amazing burgers! Portions were very large so we didn’t manage to finish it all.

Love going to any of the Nookies. This time was post wedding breakfast. Large group (10) of us got a table to recoup from the night before. Nothing better than a rib-sticking breakfast to prepare you for the rest of the day. can't wait for a reason to be back in town.

My wife and I have been avid fans of Nookies at 1746 North Wells Street on Chicago's North Side ever since we discovered the Old Town neighborhood restaurant several years ago while taking a leisurely Sunday walk. Their slogan is "fresh and friendly since 1973" and I won't argue. For years, I've reviewed Nookies and praised their fresh squeezed orange juice from California. I've never tasted better, even in Florida. Over the years, we have enjoyed breakfasts and lunches and sampled many different dishes--but I always wash them down with orange juice. Our favorite dishes are home-made baked meatloaf, turkey burger, monster melt on grilled rye with cheddar cheese and grilled onions, turkey and Swiss croissant, pulled pork sandwich, Monte Cristo, French Dip, strawberry Belgian waffle, brioche French toast, cinnamon apple crepe, rice barley or tomato pasta soup and tossed greens salad with tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs and onions. There are dozens of other items on the menu--and we haven't even gotten to dinner yet--but Nookies has been a very popular destination for locals for 45 years so I'm sure you'll find something to satisfy your appetite. We always have.

We love Nookies on a weeknight for consistently delicious omelettes, other breakfast dishes, and turkey burgers. Our server Courtney (sp?) is the BEST - he remembers us and our order (read: specific requests) and is so professional and pleasant. We always get a table, so we kind of don't want to tell anyone! Bring a sweater in the summer - it's very chilly inside!

Nookies is always a must! The best place for a wonderful and affordable breakfast/lunch. Can't wait to be back in Chicago to have it!

We were staying at a nearby hotel in Lincoln Park and they recommended Nookies to us for any meal... breakfast, lunch or dinner etc and the hotel staff were not wrong The first time we tried to get food we actually couldn't get in, there was a large Sunday morning crowd and this is a good sign in my mind so we returned the following day for breakfast Nookies has a lovely old world feel to it and is in a beautiful building. We were seated immediately and staff were courteous and efficient but not too chatty which is fine The menu is not huge but hits all the right notes for us on breakfast... eggs, pancakes etc, it's all there. We both enjoyed tasty eggs benedict and the food came out fairly quickly so no complaints at all there... we had coffees etc and the bill came in or around $40... not sure is that typical for Chicago but it was worth it in terms of food quality and surroundings A couple of days later we returned for lunch and the service staff were excellent and friendly and I had a fantastic linguini with meat sauce... it came with some garlic bread and a small bowl of exceptional potato soup... my missus was so happy with the eggs benedict she had them again. As per previous visit the service and food was excellent and the bill was around $35 inclusive of coffees and some soft drinks... good value in my mind So if you're in the Lincoln Park you'd be doing yourself a favour checking Nookies out, it's a pleasant dining experience

My husband and I were in the area for the weekend and I read the great reviews this place already had so we decided to stop in for breakfast. It was busy but service was great and we got a seat right away. My husband order an omelet which was huge and he said tasted excellent and I had the French toast which was amazing.

What has the appearance of a cozy old school diner Nookies was a really great surprise. A very simple menu and decor but the food was amazing as was the service. The menu covered a wide range of offerings so there was plenty of choices for anyone. I would highly recommend anyone to in the area.

My wife and I used to frequent Nookies at 1746 North Wells Street every Friday for breakfast or lunch. Then COVID struck. We didn't go anywhere in the last two years. We even cancelled five vacation trips. We really missed Nookies. But the pandemic has eased, we hope, so we have begun to return to our normal lives. That means breakfast or lunch at Nookies. Located in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, north of North Avenue, it is open from 7 to 3 Sunday through Thursday and 7 to 4 on Friday and Saturday. This family owned operation opened in 1973. Another location is at 2114 North Halsted in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. They specialize in all-day breakfast but lunch is a treat, too. I was delighted to see that their famous fresh squeezed orange juice is as sweet and delicious as always, better than anything I've ever tasted anywhere else, even in Florida. Maybe that's because they use California oranges. That's how I start my breakfast. Then oatmeal with brown sugar, raisins and strawberries. Then traditional Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce and a side order of hash browns. Meanwhile, my wife prefers a Belgian waffle with sausage links and a fruit bowl. If I'm not in a mood for Eggs Benedict, which is rare, I opt for corned beef hash with two scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast and strawberry jam. Lunch? We start with bowls of cram of chicken rice or tomato pasta or chicken noodle soup. I usually have a Monte Cristo sandwich with ham, turkey and Swiss cheese on French toast or a Monster Melt with a large beef patty on grilled rye with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. With coleslaw and fries. My wife's favorite choices are a turkey and Swiss croissant or a hot turkey sandwich open-faced with mashed potatoes and gravy. No complaints here. Good to see that Nookies remains as popular with the public as it was before COVID.

This is a great no-frills, old-school brunch spot. It doesn't try to be anything more than it is. It doesn't try to make its food look beautiful. Doesn't try to be hip or modern. Just churns out incredible food. I went here with my dad, who used to frequent it 30 years earlier with my mom as newlyweds. Apparently the quality has not declined. Fresh squeezed OJ at the onset of the meal was incredibly refreshing and used high-quality juicing oranges - no Tropicana here! My dad had the Copenhagen seasonal special which was big and delicious, while I ordered the Cajun Eggs seasonal special, also big and, in my opinion, even more delicious. Now, admittedly, neither of these are health foods. But boy was mine incredible. Corn pancake/hoecake on the bottom, perfectly runny eggs on top, followed by andouille sausage cajun gravy and a shrimp skewer. Holy moly! Get there while they still have these. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Prices are not super cheap but very reasonable, especially given the large portions. And we waited a grand total of 5 minutes for our table late morning on a Saturday. Overall, a fantastic experience! P.S. While I did not have a hangover, I could very much see this food as being the perfect cure for one!

We walked in on Saturday around 10 and were seated within 5 minutes. The dinner atmosphere is great and family friendly with a large amount of seating. Everyone at my table had eggs and sides but I went with an artichoke and sun dried tomato frittata. All of the food was good and really affordable.

Recommend by locals and we were not disappointed Food was excellent in this very popular destination Service was very quick and efficient

We had a tremendous breakfast here. There are queues from almost opening to closing time, but if you're prepared to use the bar/island in the central area you will be seated almost immediately. The choice of breakfast fayre was outstanding. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but operates a BYOB policy

Nookies was recommended to us, and we're glad we went. This is a down to earth favorite among locals. Full menu, great food, great service. It's busy, but worth the wait !

Great spot for breakfast. Prices are very reasonable, service was great and tables turned really quickly. We went on Saturday around 10 am and only waited about 5 minutes for a seat. The place is bigger than it looks. They have all the traditional breakfast items along with a few specialties and daily specials. A great spot in the city for a good breakfast without a long wait.

I'll admit I chose this place for lunch because of the name 😉 There were 3 of us dining for lunch. We were so pleasantly surprised when we walked in the front door. Much more of a classy place than what we thought. We were seated quickly, and our server was there without much of a wait. The server was attentive and also knowledgeable of the menu. To start with between the 3 of us we had a side salad and both of the soup options available. None of us had any complaints with those. We had no complaints about the food at all. The portion size was actually too much for all 3 of us. We all had food left over. We were offered take out boxes for our leftovers. My food bill was around $20 which I felt was a perfect amount of money for what I had to eat.

We had a group of 6 adults, a child and a baby in a stroller. We were seated fairly quickly once our entire group arrived. The service was great and the food was delicious. I will return!

Excellent food and service. Popular with locals. Great traditional diner fare like hearty breakfasts, meat loaf and turkey dinners, sandwiches, etc., but they also have several Mexican dishes that are outstanding. Service is prompt and friendly. Prices reasonable. Some outdoor seating too. Near Lincoln Park/Lake/Old Town. Get the chilaquiles, they are to die for!

What an amazing local restaurant. The food was delicious and very filling. Even though from out of state the employees made you feel as though you were from there.

Service was excellent! Food prepared exactly as asked. Quaint, quiet, prices very reasonable. Went two nights in a row!!!

Beautiful, hearty and tasty dishes A small bowl of soup to start the meal then burger for my husband and grilled salmon for me accompanied by a large green salad and delicious vinaigrette. Classic as a dish and very very good, respect for cooking Possibility of having lunch outside. Quiet area 2 minutes from the zoo

First time visit. Outstanding food, excellent service, clean environment. Ordered a special sampler trio of pumpkin pancakes with pecans, bread pudding pancakes with plum pudding, and a French toast with orange zest/ pineapple/ strawberry topping. I literally took a couple bites of each. This sampler plate was incredible. The rest was going home. I also ordered a three egg veggie omelet with cheddar, a fruit cup, and sour dough toast. Ate a little bit of all that, and took the rest home. My husband enjoyed his omelette, and also took part of it home. Portions are indeed generous. Our biggest pleasure was their delicious coffee. Honestly, this place was truly a wonderful experience. We will return!

Had dinner the other night with family/friends. This is a great diner with tons of choices. They handled a party of 15 without difficulty! Great food and wonderful service. Want to go back and save room for dessert!

My wife and I used to enjoy breakfast at Nookies on Wells every Wednesday morning. Before COVID. Now, after overcoming some illnesses, we have resumed our weekly ritual. Located at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood, this family-owned local chain of casual restaurants that opened in 1973 offers all-day breakfasts on a diverse menu that also includes lunch. Open from 7 to 3 Sunday through Thursday and 7 to 4 on Friday and Saturday, Nookies is a popular gathering place for the community. I always start with a large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, the sweetest I've ever tasted. I'm told the oranges come from California. My wife usually orders a Belgian waffle soaked with real maple syrup and topped with strawberries. I always order Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs on an English muffin with Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce. Also sides of sausage links and corned beef hash. Truth be told, I never was a breakfast person -- my mother sent me to school with a glass of orange juice -- until we moved to the Gold Coast and discovered Nookies.

We stopped in during the Holidays for a delicious breakfast and was served by the creative and adorable Taryn. She had wrapped her hair around a to go cup to get this effect. Fabulous! Her service was equally outstanding- attentive, friendly and professional. Loved it!

We stopped in Nookies following our Chicago Greeter walk through Old Town and Lincoln Park. Many of the reviews cite their great Breakfasts but please know that Lunch is very good/excellent as well! We thought Nookies prices were very reasonable too. Recommend!!

Our breakfast was very good and service was speedy. Our particular waitress was not very outgoing and kind of grumpy but that could just be her personality.

The service was great and the food is very good. The amount of food is too much but it is good. Great value for your money. Had both lunch and breakfast here.

Just really good food. Creative with good service. What more do you need. The selection of choices range form unique to standard. But all are good.

I had the green goddess omelet and it's one of the best things I've ever had. The French toast was also amazing. My friend and I split everything.

I stayed at the Hotel Lincoln for a week in Apr 2017. The hotel has a decent coffee shop, but Nookies is just around the corner and the food and service were outstanding! I went there all five mornings I was in town and they treated me like family. My coffee or water was never empty and the food was always hot and fresh. The portions are generous as well. I am a big eater and had to tap out at least twice without finishing everything! They have all the normal breakfasts you could want along with some unique choices. I loved the Jalapeno corn cakes which were corn-battered pancakes with jalapenos and sweet peppers in the mix served with a sweet, tequila-infused syrup and spicy butter. The Greek omelet was loaded with spinach and feta! If you're there on a Sat or Sun, be sure to try the Cherry Hotcakes. Out of this world, Yum! I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this place for breakfast and my stomach is rumbling just typing about it!

Coming from CT and NYC, we love a great diner for breakfast. This place did not disappoint! Efficient, reasonable and tasty. Will be back!

Old time Chicago dinner located on Wells just below the Lincoln/Clark intersection. Clean. Deceptive size with three rooms. Excellent service. Breakfast on three successive days. Excellent coffee, omelets, eggs, etc. fresh squeezed OJ. Decent pricing. On the last day had the special omelette - the Reuben omelette which was phenomenal.

My daughter had been avoiding Nookies because of a bad lunch experience with an overly greasy burger and fries, but I talked her into breakfast. She is now as hooked on Nookies as I was when I lived in Old Town. She had the French toast special which was loaded with as much fruit as a person eats in a week! I had the three cheese omelet. The omelet was as fluffy as it gets with so much cheese that every bite had plenty. Service was incredibly fast and very attentive. I saw one patron who only had a bowl of cereal, but everyone knew him. It made you feel like he was a local who came in every morning even if it were only for a bowl of cereal. My love of Nookies continues and now I've turned my daughter into a fan as well. I do have to say $40 for breakfast is just a little pricey.

Food was good. The atmosphere is great, feels like an upscale diner. We went on a Saturday at 11am with no wait inside, but 30 minutes outside. Staff was friendly but very overworked, only one waitress for the entire front area. However, she was very kind albeit a bit stressed. Our meal was correct and came to us in a reasonable amount of time. Would definitely recommend.

This is one of four Nookies restaurants, and it’s the one we always come back to. The menu is quite large, as are the portions. The food is consistently good, and the restaurant has a warm neighborhood feel. The restaurant can be very crowded on weekends and on good weather days so, if you don’t want to wait, come during off hours.

Went here for breakfast with my daughters. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent. The cream for our coffee was spoiled but the waitress was very apologetic & prompt in replacing the cream & our coffee. Would definitely go back! The outdoor eating area looked very nice too.

Stopped by for brunch on a weekday stroll and was pleasantly surprised. A very large menu and accommodating. Very large portions and was served very hot. Had the most amazing mimosa made with St. Germain Elderfower. WOW.

My wife and I were waiting when the doors opened at 6:30 a.m. at Nookies restaurant at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood. The car was packed with luggage and we were prepared to leave on a two-week vacation trip to Mississippi. Instead of our usual starting time at 4 a.m., however, we decided to delay our departure until after we had breakfast at Nookies, which always lives up to its motto of "fresh and friendly since 1973." My wife had a cup of hot coffee and strawberry Belgian waffles with sausage and a bowl of fresh fruit. I started with a large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, the sweetest I have ever tasted. Then I had a bowl of oatmeal with raisins before indulging in my favorite morning wakeup call, Eggs Benedict, two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on two English muffins with hollandaise sauce, hash browns, sausage and toast. With full stomachs, we were ready to embark on our trip to the Deep South.

We got in, seated, and were greeted by friendly staff. Generous food portions, reasonable prices. I had the Denver Omelet with a side of fresh fruit. Yum. Looks like a fav. Neighborhood spot. Diners knew the staff and vice versa. Classical music in the background. Delightful.

We ran in here because it started pouring rain and it was a great late breakfast spot on a Friday! Seated right away, friendly host, friendly waitress. We all got different breakfast meals and enjoyed them. Attentive to coffee and water refills. 5/5. The next time we visit Chicago, we’ll be back!

I'm probably making too much of a good thing. I've written about a dozen reviews of Nookies at 1746 North Wells Street in the last few years and I've always praised the quality of the orange juice. It's the best I've ever tasted. Oh, I enjoy other items on the menu, breakfast or lunch, but when you start a meal with something that is better that you've ever experienced before, I think it says something about the restaurant. On our most recent visit, I asked about the orange juice. They purchase fresh oranges from California and squeeze them daily. I drink fresh Florida orange juice all the time when we vacation in the Sunshine State. But it doesn't begin to compare with fresh California orange juice. It has a sweetness that sets it apart from all others. What can I say? You'll know it when you taste it. If you don't like orange juice, Nookies' menu provides enough options to satisfy your appetite. I usually order a bowl of chicken and rice soup with a tossed green salad with tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs and 1,000 Island dressing. How's that for health food? On other occasions, I recommend the pulled pork sandwich, turkey burger and hot turkey sandwich. My wife usually orders a Belgian waffle or apple crepes or French toast with fresh strawberries. The service is quick--the bottle of water and coffee are at your table before you sit down--and the surroundings is like a neighborhood reunion. But be aware: If you're planning to go for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday, arrive early or show up late. It's always crowded. I think they like the orange juice.

It's very convenient to eat there if you stay at Lincoln hotel. Breakfasts and lunches are good. But I'm not sure I would come especially for this cafe if I'm far. Prices are reasonable. Recommend it!

On a short visit from New York. Breakfast was disappointing and a staff member was looking at me and shaking his head. Don’t know what I did wrong. Perhaps I should have ordered coffee with my breakfast, but I had one earlier in my hotel room and didn’t want another. I would not be returning to this place.

After a long day and arriving toi our hotel, this hole in the wall diner was recomended by our front desk clerk. It was a very very short walk and it was so beyond any expectatoin. Its just this small non flashy diner, set next to a cleaners. There is no bright sign or lights. Just floor to celiing windows with a warm inviting interior. Service was impeccable. Our waitress Theresa was perfect. This is not a fancy restaurant and if you are not looking for a family friendly place that treats you exactly like family then dont go. This is the place you go when you want food as good (if not better) than Mom can make. Our three day trip - we went every day for one meal or another. I highly highly recomend.

Casual ambience, very good service and food. We came here for lunch and then for breakfast. Good quality food and mid-range prices. Good potato soup, ham and Swis croissant, grilled cheese and smoked ham, frittata and blue cheese omelet.

I spent a few days last week in the Old Town neighbourhood and ate in Nookies several times, breakfast, brunch and dinner. The food is really good, plenty of choice and the staff are just lovely. Portions are generous and your coffee is refilled just as often as you like. I’d highly recommend calling in here if you’re in the neighbourhood, you won’t be disappointed.

Can be crowded on a Sunday morning but well with the short wait. Omelettes, frittatas, crepes, and anything else you can imagine and all are prepared fresh and delicious. The service is exceptional from a well trained staff. With 4 locations in the Chicago area it's easy to find one close by the north side. Open breakfast, lunch, and dinner, byob is welcomed. Stop in, i know you'll be back again.

5 minute walk from a great hotel (Lincoln Hotel in Lincoln Park) is a great place for breakfast. Large portions and reasonably priced (6 adults who could not finish their breakfast for $90 WITH tip).

I just be coming fun I had great time impressive great food and drinks I'm happy and grateful for the time i spend it in this place love mach Chris
Brunch done right with a smile!
We made no booking for brunch on a Friday morning ! The staff were extremely nice, offered us the best table besides the window as requested! Super friendly and greeted everyone with. great smile! Offered us a complimentary desert for something very small… Great place and great food! Will be back! Please get a coffee machine…a flat white would have been great…
