Nice spot on Lower Greenville

By Cheryl |

My daughters and I ate here past Saturday. Parking and traffic can be a little tight on a Saturday night as this is "the area" right now in Dallas. We decided to Uber there as much youngest daughter lives near by. Our first driver ditched us and we were running late I called ahead and the restaurant was very gracious about our delay. Wait staff was very attentive and aware of gluten free options as this is a must for us. Food was exceptional. We will be back.

If you like Middle Eastern or Afghan food, this where to come.

Have eaten a few times at this restaurant, as well as the place he had before in Addison. Have actually spent two New Year's Eves, one in Addison and one here on Lower Greenville. Many reviewers have talked about the different dishes, so I won't. I just want to emphasize that everything we ordered was right on, including the drinks. I would suggest you order lamb because they do it so well in any way, but the beef was also excellent. If you like Middle Eastern or Afghan food, this where to come. Excellent, personalized, but not overbearing service.

overpriced and it is not real Afghani food

By Fearless774525 |

The portion was too small. we paid 85 dollars for 2 people and we left hungry . we didn't get full at all. It is extremely overpriced .The food taste was terrible. It is not real Afghani food. We never ever go back again !!!!

Fabulous food

By russkwtx |

My original review was from several years ago when the restaurant had just recently opened in lower Greenville was still starting to come back. Now, the restaurant has established itself as the best Afghan food in Dallas, and one of the best restaurants in Dallas. Lower Greenville is now booming as a hotspot, and I could not be happier. Although I have been to Nora a few times since my original review, this review is for my most recent visit in March 2018. We made the mistake of going to a restaurant on Greenville on St. Patrick's day, so it was pure madness compounded by pouring rain. But that has nothing to do with the restaurant. We had a reservation and showed up almost on time due to really bad traffic. Lots of people were standing around the front door who were not diners, just trying to avoid the rain. But once we got in we were seated immediately. Our approach basically the same: to order lots of small plates and act like this is a tapas restaurant. I remember the kadu, mantoo, bulanee, goshti, aushak, kasha, and baklava for desert. Everything is just fantastic. Flavors are deep and developed. The food had some back heat, not overtly spicy, just a heat that creeps up on you. The restaurant was louder than usual because of St. Patrick's party-goers; this is a restaurant that has a bar, rather than a bar per se. I think the restaurant and door security all had their hands full with too many drunks who simply wanted a dry warm place. It normally is a quiet, upscale place to have a nice dinner. Service was accommodating and efficient. No complaints. The restaurant is well-run and has standards. The food is excellent. Service is top-notch. I plan to be back soon.

Wonderful food; lose the guard dog

By jpatter1 |

I love Nora. Wonderful food. Great atmosphere. The ambience now suits the quality of the food. Quiet enough to have a good conversation. The wait staff looks good and is well trained. But the owner (?), dressed in warm ups and a t-shirt, stalks the entrance staring out at pedestrians, looking desperate. He needs to back off and let his people run the store. Or get dressed and act like a manager.

New Location - Fabulous Meal!!

By Kate K |

Please note Nora recently relocated from Greenville to a beautiful new space in Bishop Arts (205 N Bishop Ave, Dallas, TX 75208). We ate there on Wednesday night with another couple and the restaurant was buzzing. There wasn't an empty table in the house or at the bar (but it was still easy to hear). All of us walked out raving about the food - there wasn't a single dish we didn't like. Bulanee, Spicy Chicken Meatballs, Kadu with lamb were particular favorites. Highly, highly recommend - we are already planning a return visit!

Rocky start ended well

Visited on a Wednesday evening as a party of six. Host/manager was rather rude, asking when my son made the reservation and sighing when we told him our reservation for five had changed to six (doesn't that mean more business/tip for him?). The restaurant, which has a pleasant, simple decor, was comfortably full. After being seated, the rest of our experience was wonderful! Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, although she fumbled through opening our bottle of wine. I did not really know what to expect of Afghani food, but really liked my meal, as did the rest of my group. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience.

Stunned

By srdbigd |

Nora is one of those places you go into not having a clue of what to expect. The decor is modern, sleek and comfortable. The service is professional, relaxed and helpful. So what else can you expect? How about a new genre of amazing food and some of the coolest cocktails this side of the Euphrates river valley. Amazing tapas like starters with wonderful fresh sauces and ingredients. Things you might not think of putting together but when tried blow the mind. Grilled meats such as lamb, beef and chicken that are cooked to perfection served with a great little wine list. Wines in the $25-$45 range that are all well chosen and please. A patio on Lower Greenville for those nice Spring evenings. This is Nora and it has to be one of Dallas' finest new spots.

Pleasantly Surprised!!

By travelTLee |

I had seen this place driving by, but was never curious enough to stop in. I "discovered" it on open table when I was unable to get reservations from another restaurant. Since the reviews were good my party and I decided to give it a try. I am so glad we did!! We were all pleasantly surprised!! First of all the decor is fabulously sexy and modern. I would easily bring a date here. The food is unique and delicious. Everything we had was so good. We had a pumpkin appetizer and we all are still talking about going back for that one dish alone....and I personally don't even like pumpkin. Give this place a try, it will not disappoint. The dinner prices are completely reasonable as are the drinks. If I had to complain about anything it would be 2 things: 1) our waitress seemed a little nervous and unsure of herself, which got better as service went along. Maybe she was new. She was very polite and would go back to the kitchen to get questions answered she didn't know, but in the beginning her unsteadiness about the menu scared me. 2) The hostess had no clue about my open table reservation when we arrived and placed us in the very back of the restaurant by the kitchen and bathrooms when there were at least 4-5 tables open in the very front ( I suspect one of them for my actual reservation.) Despite that I'm planning to go here again, as are my friends.

Outstanding Flavors

By MSLovell |

A group of 10 dining--everyone proclaimed their meals fabulous. Lamb kabobs and saffron rice was so flavorful. A friend's spinach casserole w lamb and white rice had the best white rice I've tasted. Shrimp kabobs great. The only drawback was it was over 30 minutes from order to the first order serviced. And not all meals came out at same time. There was only 1 other couple dining!

Fantastic food

By russkwtx |

I raved about the food to an out of town guest but I don't think he believed me until we went. We ordered the small plates of Kadu, Mantoo, the Sambosa, hummus, and the eggplant and my guest was in heaven, could not believe the complexity of the flavors. Everything is just wonderful, best food in Dallas! There is complimentary valet parking. Our server was new but tried to be helpful. This is a must-try restaurant if you have not been here.

Very Good

By Clayton B |

We here last night with some close friends and really enjoyed ourselves. The overall experience was quite unique, having never really had Afgan food before. We shared the sampler platter of apps and loved all four. My wife is a vegetarian and they so many options for her. The food is prepared exquisitely, timing was spot on, service was amazing, and their cocktails are rather unique as well. This is a place I'm glad to find, for I will be going back here often. I highly recommend this place you are looking for something new, something outside of the box!

Sean is the BEST

By MariaMcLendon |

Nora is a charming and delicious addition to the restaurant and bar options in Lower-Greenville. The appetizers are mouth-watering my delicious, and in my opinion there is not one that is better than the others. But the best, best, best part of this place is Sean the bartender! He is amazing—friendly, engaging, responsive. I would come back just because of his hospitality!

Disappointing

By ZenHealer7 |

Helmund in Boston (Cambridge) is the standard bearer for Afghan cuisine in the USA. Once you have eaten there, it is difficult to like any other Afghan restaurant. That was the case here, though on its own, it would be not too bad, if only they could make fresh, piping hot Afghan breads rolling out f the oven. Well, that was not the case. The bread seemed pre made or super market quality, definitely not fresh and hot. The vegetarian dishes were good, not extraordinary as Helmund. The Kadu was quite good, and so was the eggplant dish. Chalao was a bit bland, and so was the sambosas. Well, perhaps it is not fair to compare it with Helmund, but there you are. On a Tuesday night, this huge place was totally empty, with waiters hovering around all the time.

Rooftop dinner

By TSomsith |

I made reservations for 28 for a family's BD dinner without any issues. We were practically the only ones on the rooftop on a Friday night- which I'm not complaining about. Octavia, our bartender and waitress was amazingly accommodating. We ordered everything on the small plates meal to sample. We also ordered the lamb shanks and it became everyone's favorite dish. The reason I'm not giving a 5 star is because I think they were a bit short handed with only 2 people to service our entire party and a few stragglers. I will definitely be back, but with a smaller group of friends.

Roof patio on a nice March evening at sundown 5

By ERL972 |

The rooftop patio is a great place to spend time with friends on a nice evening to watch the sun set. It is a busy place so expect leisurely service, but worth it in the casual atmosphere.

Had higher expectations

By fsanam |

Based on all the positive reviews on here and Trip Advisor I had higher expectations. I wouldn't say there was anything WRONG with our experience at dinner tonight. The restaurant decor is nice (though something about the laminated menus cheapens it a little) and the food is flavorful. However, I would say that the food is quite pricey given the quantity and I have had better Afghan food in NYC. I also think the Qabili Palao would taste better with chicken on the bone instead of boneless chicken (and I'm guessing might be more authentic?). The rooftop bar area of the restaurant looks nice for drinks and a quick bite. Parking is tough on this part of Greenville Avenue so prepare to pay $5 for valeting your car.

Wildly over priced! $20 Highball!!!

By AJ |

I went to Nora early on a week night for a casual dinner with my boyfriend. We ordered two small plates, one entree to share, and had two drinks each. When the $130+ bill came we were in shock. I knew the food was pricey, but $20 for a highball drink is ridiculous! Our waiter said when we commented on how overpriced the drinks were "I know, I'm sorry...I don't set the prices, please don't be mad at me." With tip our total was $160. We live in Oak Cliff and we won't be back.

Outstanding service, great food!

By Jose H |

First time here and was very impressed with the service. This restaurant has a patio and is pet friendly. We ordered the sampler and it did not disappoint. Also had the lamb korma, very good. Just enough spice. Would definitely recommend.

Very good flavored food

By Lenni |

I liked this place because is different kind of food than american. The menu choices are just delicious. My recommendations for appetizers are a dish made with eggplant and as a main course the qabili palao lamb that you also can ask for chicken or beef, it's up to you! They serve cocktails and wines too. For person may cost with alcohol is aroung $35 person.

Food quite good, management very inflexible on menu

By alisonv11 |

I really like the food in this restaurant, especially the Kadu, an unusual and delicious pumpkin appetizer and the Qabili Palao, a wonderful lamb and rice dish and Mantoo, steamed meat dumplings. We have gone to this restaurant several times and the food is always very good. What I don't like is the complete inflexibility of the management regarding the menu. There are certain things I don't eat, in this period and it is impossible to substitute for anything but additional salad. My friend and I had already ordered a large salad to split so I asked if I could substitute some vegetables instead of the saffron rice that came with the kabob I ordered. I was informed that I could only have extra salad as a substitute. This kind of inflexibility is not conducive to a great restaurant experience, so I removed a star for this reason.

What has happened to Nora?!

By SBH1 |

What has happened to Nora?! This was the second time in 6 weeks we have gone to Nora for a late lunch on a Sat. and Sun. The service has been atrocious! We had to ask the bartender to get a cocktail, not once, but with each drink. The server just sits at the bar and watches tv. Although the food is good, we were delivered a basket with no bread in it to accompany our hummis. The server has no training in how to serve or the process of taking an order. The bartender didn't even know how to pore a glass of wine. Also, both times we were there recently, we were the only table. It's no wonder! Nora as always been one of our go to restaurants, but we're not going back till it improves.

Try This!

By Malcolm G |

I used to go to the Afghan Grill in north Dallas for years and was so disappointed when they closed. I recently found out that the owner had relocated to lower Greenville under a new name. I went with my family and it is even better than I remembered the Afghan Grill was. Afghan food is very approachable and so delicious. It kind of reminds me of a cross between Turkish and Indian (without the spiciness). I highly recommend the appetizers and the Kadu which is a pumpkin dish with Yogurt and meat sauce was outstanding. Nice modern atmosphere, great service, and exceptional, interesting food. Try this!

Delicious kebabs, fast service., sumptuous proportions.

By talk2dipu |

Nora is well known for its Afghan cuisine In DFW metroplex. my wife and I went there on a Friday night. We made reservations online from their website, since it was weekend and we don't like waiting. It is in a very busy area of down town , so parking is very tedious. Recommend using valet for a small fee. They have an upstairs patio bar and restaurant, but we prefer ed the indoors. If you are in a group of 4 or more ask for the booth along the wall. They are comfortable, though don't expect privacy. Its very crowded on weekends. We ordered Bulanee, which is savory puff pastry stuff with potato mashed with spices, and served with Chutney. I thought the drinks were pricey, but we did order a mojito and Turkish coffee. Bulanee was nice but would have liked a little more flavor in the potato. Our south Asian taste buds found it a little bland, but chutney was the savior. For entree we ordered Chicken kebab from the Grill menu, and Lamb KorMA from the Stew menu. The chicken kebabs were juicy and tender with a very unique blend of spices served on amazing bed of rice with exquisite aroma and flavor. Lamb stew was also very good. Lamb was cooked to just right tenderness and gravy had a great flavor. It was Served with white rice which was mildly flavored. Overall it was a very satisfying meal. Service was prompt and friendly.

Afghan food for good

By Pauak |

We stopped here after being unable to get a table at a Fundue place close by. The restaurant is located in the middle of Greenville area, with bars around to go after dinner. The decor of the restaurant does not remind you of a afghan place, and has maybe a little too much light to be considered a romantic place. But the food is excellent, and the prices are fair. Suggestion: badenjan as appetizer and the qabili palao (lamb with rice) is quite good. The portion a good. The dessert baklava I awesome, but the portion too small to share. This is a place to have some exotic and different food in the neighborhood.

Not really Afghan

By Warren B |

I lived in Kabul for 2 1/2 years and have been to several good, authentic Afghan restaurants in New York, Washington DC and Baltimore. I ate at Nora’s one year ago and it was much better than what we ordered yesterday. We ordered traditional dishes - Aushak, Mantoo, Qabuli Palau and chicken kabobs. Three of the dishes were spicier than I’ve ever had elsewhere - including pieces of red chili peppers that you’d see in Szechuan dishes - which overpowered the flavors that you’d ordinarily see in Afghan dishes. The mantoo was covered in peas and carrots that looked as if they came from a frozen vegetable aisle. This may be due to the lack of Afghan presence in the restaurant - I saw no one working there that spoke Dari or Pashtu. And serving naan with every Afghan meal is given - but not here. Very disappointing.

Ambiance and GOOD Food

By Journey767715 |

Yum! We went for dinner and found a candle lit atmosphere with very attentive wait staff. Hummus was recommended and it was fabulous, best I have ever had. The waitress said it was fresh and made in house! We split a Nora salad the was filled with fresh herbs, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, and minced red onion. it too was exceptional. Chicken with yogurt sauce was a split for us, and the chef did not let us down aromatic, and flavorful. This is not your average mediterean food; but a cut above. Very nice ambiance, and really cool middle eastern pop music, soft and enjoyable. BTW I am a native midwesterner, but well traveled. I strongly recommend this restaurant. Give it a try.

Nora doesn't care about their customers

By Johndsmart |

I ordered $100 worth of delivery from Nora this evening. An hour later I checked the status and found the order had been cancelled. I called the restaurant and inquired about the order. I was transferred to a man with a foreign accident and he said he didn't know anything about it and it wasn't his problem. I explained I was now very hungry and asked what he was going to do about it. He hung up on me. I was never rude during the call. I tried to call me and it seems they've blocked my number. It's hard to believe that someone in the restaurant business is this rude and uncaring. No wonder they had to close their Greenville Avenue location and move to Oak Cliff. If you're going to use a delivery service, you have to take responsibility for your designated agent. They apparently don't care.

Party on the Rooftop

By ALeo41 |

The rooftop has amazing views of Lower Greenville and the Dallas Skyline. They had a really good DJ and the drinks were awesome. Its definitely a Dallas Hot Spot.

Good and working its way up

By d1621 |

Nora is a spot with a fresh approach for Texans to middle eastern food. If you can ignore the numerous blunders of wait staff due to lack of proper training, this can be a fun spot. Overall, I found it confusing to enter a place which appearance says this is a euro bistro when everything else might make you think you were in a casual middle eastern or asian restaurant. Our server was super polite but not trained in the most basic table service. When you don't know what you don't know then you have to blame the management and not the messenger. We totally enjoyed the sampler plate. It was complicated but not explained when delivered to the table - unlike most bistro places. wine was poured full glass when we expected to taste and be sure the wine was ok. Our dishes as it turned out went all lamb that evening and they were delicious - just don't go expecting american style plating as that is not going to happen. Our lamb was buried under a mound of rice and vegetables and it took some work to find and and not just taste but also see how beautifully it had been prepared. So if you go, go for the food which is reasonably priced and ignore the many miscues as it is a treat to enjoy this cooking

Taste of the Middle East in a Classy Setting

By Kent P |

Let Matt, the super friendly owner, give you a magic carpet ride through an enticing menu of delicately spiced Mediterranean and middle eastern staples which are featured in his native Afghanistan. You will love the tasteful décor, the specially crafted cocktails, and excellent service. Be sure and check out one of the best roof-top bars in the city - a great place to meet your friends!

Love the food - service less than stellar

By BigH73 |

I love the food at this restaurant. That being said, my brother and sister in law were in town from Chicago. I had a baby shower for them here with family and the reason for their trip. We have traveled with them abroad more than once and I really thought they would love one of my fav places, Nora. And since this is their last big trip before their first child comes, we wanted to take them for a nice dinner. So I made a reservation for their last night in town. It was a beautiful day in Dallas, so we asked if we could sit on their rooftop area instead when we arrived. So we did. There was not anyone in their min restaurant when we arrived at 7:10/7:15 pm. And the roof top had 3 tables of people already there. We soon realized that they didn't really have wait staff up their either. There was a bartender and a food runner (or some staff member). We ordered drinks. My very pregnant SIL ordered water, I don't drink, so I ordered tea, and the guys ordered beer. Beers came out right away. And then a long time passed before I got a very small plastic cup of tea. And my SIL didn't have anything for a very long time even after that. At least 20 mins or more. We ordered apps to split - wanted to wait to order mains. I watched as a waitstaff person handed out plates and silverware to the other 3 tables- we had none. And as the time was ticking away with no water, no silverware, no side plates - appetizers started showing up with no way to eat them. So I went asked about the silverware and the water. They brought silverware and I think finally the water. But the silverware was filthy dirty. Food glued to all of the place settings. So I got up again and asked for more silverware. After roll 8 (and time lapse of 20-25mins) we finally had enough clean pieces to eat the apps but by this time they were stone cold. And we didn't get half of what we ordered. By this time it's 8:30ish and we have been there for a hour (at least). I finally got up because no one was coming back to our table. I just asked if we could get our check so I could pay. We wanted to just leave and get dinner some place else. And trying to be as nice as possible and not have some issue. So while I was standing at the bar waiting to have some one get my bill, I noticed one of the people from one of the other tables was standing there talking to my husband. By this time the bartender printed our bill which still had the items we never received. So when I asked her about it she said- oh the hummus is ready do you want it to go? No we wanted it 30-40 mins ago and why is it sitting downstairs?? Same thing for the other hot apps we never got or we had to send back because we couldn't eat them while they were hot- no silverware no breads (supposed to have naan/flatbread style bread). By this time, the man that had been speaking to my husband had approached me. He was actually the GM who I guess was there with two of his friends having dinner? He said he wanted to apologize for what had happened and buy us a round of drinks. And I was like my very pregnant SIL isn't hitting the bottle til after June, I don't drink/I'm driving ... so he said let me take care of half the bill. Well he did do that and as this was nice- he paid for basically the items we NEVER got. The ones I guess that were ready in the kitchen and no one ever brought them. I would have thought the bartender would have removed those but I guess not. I didn't want to make a scene and have this drawn out even more- so we left. My hubs was ticked to say the least and by 9pm we are having to walk down Greenville Ave to find another place to eat. I really like their food- this is from prior dinners there. The Kadu is amazing and one of the best things I have ever had. It's a stewed savory pumpkin with a meat ragu. It's delicious. The Dolma, Hummus and other apps are equally delicious and I forgot to mention- also GF. Most items on their menu are GF (which makes it great for me.) Their Beef kaftas and jeweled rice - delicious and some of the best I have ever had from around the world. And their best thing is the mix grill- great value picking 3 proteins - chargrilled on top of their saffron jeweled rice. So the food is delicious- and well worth it. And the food quality is always consistent. I noticed when we finally left that area at around 10pm that their main room didn't have anyone in it. And I only saw two tables when we left from the upper patio. And the times I have been before, the dining room was not full (at dinner time), we have had dirty silverware every time we have been there (they need to work on that), and also making sure your guests are well taken care of. This place isn't cheap- but the price is fine for the quality of the food - but the experience should be as good as the food. And more often, it is not. This has left such a bad taste in my husband's mouth from what happened and the way he was spoken to, we were treated at the table that I don't know if we will be back. And I left a note for the owner to call me - which hasn't happened. So I wanted to give everyone a heads up. Have drinks on that patio- I wouldn't suggest ordering dinner there. Make a reservation for the main room/restaurant, and check your silverware. I'm sure you're like us and want to eat your food not someone else's. And hopefully your experience will be and should be as beautiful as the food.

Great Afghan restaurant

By 5016DAH |

Lovely small restaurant on Lower Greenville Avenue. Clean sleek interior. Nice bar area, seems to be very popular. Afghan food is basically Mediterranean based. The sampler plate is Kadu (Sautéed pumpkin with garlic yogurt, meat sauce), Sambosa (Lightly fried pastries filled with ground beef, chick peas, green peas), Bulanee (Leek or potato filled pastries lightly fried, sprinkled cilantro, served with mint sauce) and Aushak (Steamed leek dumpling, topped with mint yogurt and meat sauce), all very good. Chicken kabobs were very flavorful served with delicious saffron rice and a yogurt dipping sauce. Nice cocktail list. Classic Mojito was very good. Great outdoor seating upstairs.

Afghan Surprise on Greenville

By Constance H |

My daughter and I were searching for a patio to enjoy brunch on one of the first nice days of the Spring and we stumbled upon Nora. We had a great brunch - not your usual mimosa and eggs. We had the Vegetable Combo - sauteed pumpkin, eggplant and spinach, served with rice, afghan dolma and kashk - chilled eggplant puree seasoned with garlic yogurt and pepper. All were superb. An excellent find. Their rooftop garden looked promising. We'll be back.

Daughter's birthday dinner

By Melinda C |

Took our daughters there for a birthday dinner. Had a great meal. Had a tough time between sticking to all shared small plates, or ordering a larger entre. Ended up eating several different sushi items and sharing. Enjoyed everything we ate. Next time we will do fewer sushi, and share one larger plate as well. Definitely a repeat.

Very Unique

By AFL95 |

Nora Dallas is a truly unique place with some excellent food. In the land of tex-mex and steaks the Afghan food served really stands out. We shared the Mantoo as a starter, and the yogurt sauce and spices were very tasty, and something I hadn't experienced before. I had the Sabzi Chalao with lamb and it was excellent. The spices of the sauce, tender lamb, and saffron rice are a great combination. Other in the group had either Chicken Korma, or Chicken with Yogurt and eveyone really enjoyed thier meals. They've got some very unusual drinks - I had the LemonGrass martini which was very nice. You've got to give this place a try - very unique and very good....

More Wonderful

By lovesbabies |

My companions were hesitant to try this cuisine but were glad they did. Of 3 couples, there was not one bite left on our plates. The Kabul Mule cocktail was very interesting and had strong cardamom which I loved.

LOVE this place

By travelin f |

We live in Dallas. We were skeptical about Afghan food strictly because we didn't know what it was..... Well, it turns out that it is wonderful. The pumpkin appetizer is outstanding. The lamb and rice dish is fantastic. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful and comfortable. The service is warm and welcoming. Prices are extremely reasonable. We have taken many friends to Nora and they all come back. They have just expanded and will soon have their rooftop deck open. They have enough space that you can normally just walk in, but I would advise reservations as they haven't been open that long and are still being discovered.

Great improvement

By jpatter1 |

We visited Nora when it first opened two (?) years ago. The food and service were wonderful, but the ambiance was dark and depressing. We visited tonight, and the place has been renovated, and is SO much better. The food and service were still excellent, but not the atmosphere is upbeat and upscale. Suggestions: light the entry chandelier and hang a piece of art over the tv at the bar (except when there's a special event). The tv is distracting and detracts from the atmosphere. The entry has a nice light fixture, but it's not lit. We will go back. Really enjoyed it.

First time, everything from service, food presentations and the food temperature was great. It was a great experience. ⭐️

By Amir F |

It was a great ambiance and very friendly staff with great over all food. The cleanliness, food presentation and food temperature all was great. Great first time visit for us.

A Whole New Experience

By Catherine B |

When I heard we were going to an Afghan restaurant, I was a bit leery. But the food was tasty, unique, and very good.

Excellent value, wonderful Afghan food

By tejasmom1 |

Went to Nora for New Year's Eve. They had a very nice prix fixe dinner with many of their specialties. I had the Lamb and other great dishes. They actually brought me the wrong entree and then gave me a free dessert to make up for the mistake. Very classy. They also have wonderful cocktails which I've had in the past.

a Great Taste of Afghan Food

By 860SusanB860 |

A friend told me of this great little Middle Eastern restaurant that they had found on lower Greenville. Turns out it is an Afghan restaurant and it was very nice! Reservations are necessary as it is somewhat small and we saw many diners getting turned away on a Saturday night. Small but very nicely decorated - brown, black and white color scheme, modern decor and beautiful lighting. White table cloths and candles set the mood. Rather a "dressy- casual" restaurant. They have a nice cocktail and wine list. We tried the Lowest Greenville (gin, cucumber, lime and pomegranate) and the Stella Nora (vodka, lime and cucumber) and both were delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and guided us through the menu and made suggestions. We ordered veggie sambosas for our appetizers and they were perfect! Two triangular pastries filled with seasoned veggies and served with a cilantro/vinegary tasting dipping sauce. We ate every bite! Our entrees were the chicken kachalo chalao (chicken stew and veggies served on a pita with yogurt sauce) and the grilled chicken with yogurt that was served with rice. Both were delicious with tasty spices and nice-sized portions. We topped the meal off with bastani (a vanilla, rosewater and pistachio ice cream). This was a very enjoyable meal and we will definitely try this again. (Valet parking is available)

good food, slow service

By Kimberly R |

It ranks a 3.5 - would have been a 4 if the service had not been so very slow. The food was good and was unique compared to the "middle eastern" restaurants I have been to around east Dallas. Definitely worth a visit. I will try it again. Decent wine selection, too.

Food was outstanding

By TexasCoyote |

Had heard good things about Nora's, but the food and service topped expectations. Three of us ordered different lamb dishes, and all agreed the meat was wonderfully tender and the saffron rice and veggies were delightfully spiced. Enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and light desserts. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Will definitely return.

Amazing

Booked Nora on a recommendation and was not disappointed! Food was excellent and the staff were attentive

Outstanding

By Josh L |

We came here for Valentine's Day, which had a limited menu. We had the hummus and dolmas for our appetizer and both were excellent. We then had the surf & turf, which was filet & shrimp kabobs on saffron rice. The kabobs were grilled perfectly and the seasonings on the food were delicious. Everything was spiced perfectly and the seasonings complimented the food well. We then had the Baklava & Chocolate Marquise with Strawberries for dessert. Both were very good as well. The ambiance was perfect for a romantic date. Valet is $5, which I'd suggest. I've eaten in some pretty expensive places before and this was on par or better than all of them.

Strategic location and delectable Cuisine

We were at Nora for a leisurely weekend dinner. First off this location on Greenville Avenue is bustling with fine dining options as those familiar with the area would know. Nora offers complimentary valet which is a huge plus. The owner greeted us when we arrived and he was gracious to have us seated even though some of our party hadn't arrived. The interiors are done tastefully and it would be an excellent choice for a date night or a business dinner. The staff are knowledgable about the menu given it is an afghan restaurant. We once had the rare privilege of dining at an authentic afghan place in San Francisco and since then we have been eagerly searching for a place closer to home. Nora is perhaps the best we can think of in the DFW area. A bonus for open table fans - they are open for reservations through the app. From the menu we recommend the following - the Bulanee, Veggie sambosa, mantu, kashk, badanjen chalao, qabuli Pilaf (with lamb). For dessert try firnee and bastani. The Qabili pilaf and the bulanee are the stars of the menu!

So good!

From the minute we walked in the door to the last crumb of dessert, Nora was 5-Stars all the way. I had the pleasure of going to Nora on a Saturday evening with 3 other people. The decor was tasteful and the tables comfortable and nicely appointed. We were warmly greeted as we arrived and the staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy. They have good wine choices, and the dolma were the best I’ve probably ever had. The hummus was delicious and the pita soft and warm. Our waiter Craig honored our request for an easy paced dinner and his wine recommendations were spot on. My partner had the lamb shank and I had the Kadu with the added lamb. Both were drool worthy. The chef even came by our table. Nice touch. For dessert were had the baklava and a recommended chocolate mousse. Excellent! I can’t wait for the weather to get nicer so I can go to the roof!

Outstanding Persian food

Persian food, and excellent at that. I've eaten Persian food all over the world, including the Middle East. The flavors, the lamb and chicken... the rice.. all first rate. Got to even meet the owner, who is from that area of the world. He was walking around and checking on the guests. Nice touch. One word sums up my two dining experiences here: AUTHENTIC. Authentic Persian food, and authentic employees. The servers and bartenders are top notch and know the menu well. You won't be disappointed in trying Nora, and it's well deserving of its great reviews on both TripAdvisor an Yelp.

Great local gem

We had dinner at Nora's last night and it was amazing. If you love Middle Eastern cuisine, you will leave be Nora's. Everything was delicious. We started out with the hummus and pita bread and not a drop was left when we finished. Dinner consisted of the chicken kabobs and ribeye kabobs with saffron rice and veggies with yogurt sauce. All three had delicious spices and the saffron rice with raisins and carrots was a great treat. We finished with cocktails and a chocolate dessert. The fig sidecar cocktail was also a big hit. Great food and great service.

kebabs are tasty

Best darn baba ghanouj! Soooo delish! The kibbeh was divine! Hole in the wall, but insanely delish! They have some other treats in the refridgerated cases. I've had their tabbouleh, love kebabs are tasty & that was very yummy.

Great good

I am of Lebanese Heritage so I am very picky on what I eat...normally just my families cooking. The small plates were delicious! I had the hockey and yogurt which I a classic dish and it was prepared very well. The yogurt sauce was good. The spices over the dish were excessive for decorations. The service was prompt and helpful with making good selections. Would definitely return.

Enjoyable Evening with Friends

We enjoyed an early and leisurely dinner with our friends (party of 6); the food was flavorful and served hot. Our server made great recommendations...the favorite item at the table was the rib-eye kabob, but we all enjoyed our selections!

A bit pricey but worth it

Food: - Expect Afgan, not your typical Turkish, Mediterranean or Middle East food. Yes, it is a bit different but quite good. E.g. Afgan tea is pretty strong. - As waitstaff suggest, we choose from Grill section. Both lamb and ribeye are excellent and comes with ok portion of rice and vegetable. - For appetizer, we tried combo platters containing Kadu (Sautéed pumpkin with minced meat), pastries, Hummus. They are acquired taste but it was learning experience for Afgan food. I wish, portions are more generous to match the price tag. - Friends also tried salmon and quite good according to them. I was not advanturous enough to try Afgan stew on first visit. Service: - place is hip, upscale and effective service. Ambience: - Rooftop dinner, watching people on Lower Greenville with fireplace is just cool. Unfortunately, it was raining on that day and so we dine inside.
