We celebrated our daughter’s 32nd birthday here. Started with 1/2 doz oysters ($19) and they were good. Also ordered bread/butter ($8..surprised by that price) and grilled Octopus ($24)-very good. Two of us ordered the Gnocchi ($32 per) and were not impressed. Our daughter had the scallops ($44) and that entree was outstanding. My hubby had the burger ($16) and it was very good. Tried 3 different desert options and the Meringues ($13) was a real winner. Chocolate cake ($13), not the best. Black sesame ice cream ($8) was interesting, but I would not order it again. Nice atmosphere - but tables are extremely close to each other. Service was pleasant.

Easily one of the best meals we have had in a while, the drinks were excellent( wormburner and mosstrooper #2) the crab beignets weren’t particularly crab tasting, but they were light and crispy. The Parisienne gnocchi with short rib was amazing, the flavors were expertly balanced. The cured scallops were an excellent light meal with what I had thought might be an overwhelming amount of strong herbs but they pulled it off, once again very balanced and tasty. Dessert was the miso caramel ice cream which was salty and delicious , what I have always wanted in a salted caramel ice cream and the pink peppercorn meringue with passion fruit sorbet was a perfect ending to the meal.

This is a lovely, spacious, airy spot with great food. I had a Sure Bet cocktail, mezcal and other things including fennel and lemon - very good. The restaurant is kind of a hybrid tapas setup, with various small plates that come out in random order, and also some large plates that are more traditional big-protein-plus-sides. I had a half dozen oysters - very good, very fresh and plump. Then I had a small plate, seared albacore tuna with pineapple, cilantro, mint and various Asian flavors. And a side, bok choy with a sweet sauce and peanuts. Both were delicious and they went together beautifully. I also had a brioche, because I wanted some kind of a starch. It was good but didn't really go with the other two dishes, which I should have known. The server was nice and smart and helped me figure out what was a good amount of food. Excellent meal!

We had a lovely experience at this creative and inviting dining spot in the fun bustling industrial warehousey neighborhood in Portland. It's a great place to go for small plates or large plates, along with lovely and interesting wines, cocktails, and mocktails. I enjoyed my "Low and Slow" mocktail, while my husband enjoyed his Wilamette pinot noir. I can only rave about the seared albacore with its subtle mixed flavors. The baby bok choy was beautifully made. My husband, son, niece, and I all have different preferences, and all loved what they chose--the burger, oysters, and hamachi in particular. And the service was impeccable in a fun industrial space.

Great service interesting menu nice ambience cool, music, great Interesting menu we had grab beignets beef, carpaccio, House cheeseburger and a marinated or albacore dish Dessert were crêpes and profiteroles just delicious. Would gladly go back.

Had fine 3 course meal All delicious from the cold beet salad to mussels with gingerling potatoes to salmon to rye gnocchi to chocolate moysse to bread pudding with huckleberry sause and salted carmel ice cresm Great service Interesting drinks Good wine list

Had a fantastic dinner last night at Normandie. After being on the road for 2 weeks in the Pacific Northwest, this was our best meal of the entire trip. Really friendly service and the drinks were great. The menu has a selection of lots of small plates that all sounded delicious - it was hard to decide on just a few! We started with the Duck Confit Toast which was out of this world. Followed that with the Charred Spanish Octopus, Roasted Beet Salad, and the Roasted Squash. All flavors were fresh and incredible. Highly recommend Normandie. Next time we're in Portland, we're heading there again. Thanks for the wonderful meal!

Came here on a whim after seeing a review in the Oregonian. Didn’t disappoint! Great food. Interesting ingredients.

Spouse and I ate at Normandie when we happened upon it during a trip to Portland. A nice bar and cozy setting for drinks with friends, date, or significant other along with sophisticated, but not stuffy food offerings. Thought we would just have a drink, but the menu was interesting enough we stayed for dinner. We had the fresh Pacific oysters on the half shell, which we still remember and wish for. I appreciated the wine listing that identified female-owned wineries.

Unique menu options that tasted great--at reasonable prices. I tried the quail and my wife stuck with a more traditional gourmet burger. Neither of us was disappointed. If you want to stay away from sweets try the cheese plate with scotch for dessert. Excellent choice. Great drink selections with an emphasis on regional options. Would definitely go back when in the area.

The Normandie in Portland is a gorgeous restaurant with a nice ambiance as well. So, what could possibly be lacking? The food was delicious and very flavorful. The only problem was the portions were too small. I do not think you should have to walk away unfulfilled. Maybe a serving of delicious bread or a soup or salad to accompany the entree would be a good idea. Just if they could increase the portion size a bit so that, in addition to feeling that the entree was excellent, you felt that there was value.

We dined outside at Normandie on a perfect September evening with our son and daughter-in-law. Service was excellent. We started with a cheese board and frites with dill sauce. Then the radicchio salad (my favorite dish of the evening). My husband had carpaccio and our daughter-in-law had octopus. I can't remember what my son and I had but everything was very good.

I was very impressed. Nice ambience, friendly and attentive staff, and remarkable food. I had the smoked beet appetizer (this is a very special dish) and the albacore appetizer (delicious flavors and gorgeous on the plate).

My daughter took my wife and me to Normandie during a trip to Portland to visit her this past September. We shared a charcuterie board before our entrees. The selection of meats and cheese was good. My disappointment came with my entree. I had the salmon. It was delicious, but the serving size was very small. I would have been more fulfilled with a regular sized portion of salmon rather than the small portion which I received. I did not feel that I received good value for the price of the meal. My wife, who describes Portland as the salmon capital of the west coast, felt the same way.

Very limited main courses - only three on our visit. Small portions and disappointed in the servers’ attitudes. Not exactly warm. Food was average although the French fries on the happy hour menu were delicious!

What a great dinner. We had three small plates: Hokkaido scallop crudo, salad with hazelnuts, and crab tartine. The ingredients were excellent and wonderful combination of flavors. The quality of the halibut (large plate) was excellent. And the bruleed banana slolit for dessert was incredibly good. Combined with friendly service, it was a wonderful night out.

We had baby with us and they were so accommodating. We did a very early dinner so the restaurant would not be busy. The food is so good. They have a wonderful selection of dishes and every one we tired was awesome. They have a well-designed wine list to go with the food. The service was so friendly and extremely good. We definitely want to go back to this restaurant.

We ordered several different dishes and split them between the 3 of us. All of the food was masterfully prepared with surprising flavor combinations. I had to resist picking up the plate and licking it clean (that’s how good everything was). I highly recommend the chicken liver mousse with savory madeleines and the steamed mussels!

Place is romantic, awesome decor, great staff...oh and you can get happy hour in the restaurant....parking is off the street. Very close to the Moda center

Hmmm….since 3/4 of your entrees are prepared in soy sauce (???) maybe you should re-brand as French-Asian restaurant. Why hide your halibut in soy sauce? Given the soy sauce dominant menu we ordered your burger which we’d, rare as “French average”. If you remain committed to a [French?] soy sauce forward menu, maybe consider tamari rather than soy sauce to expend your GF menu options,

Exceptional service, even better food, a great experience for our young adult twins birthday. Looking forward to another visit!

What a gem. Every course was delicious and expertly presented. The meshing of flavors was impressive. The wine flight option was appreciated as well. Service was outstanding. We will be back soon. Looks like a great happy hour environment too so we will try that out.

The food is very good, but the portions are too small. The octopus entrée, while delicious, would be somewhat small for a small plate, let alone an entrée. We found the bavate good but not exceptional -- at least the portion was a somewhat more reasonable size. If we had not had appetizers and dessert, the entrees would have been completely inadequate. Even though we arrived at happy hour, the bill plus tip ran to $150 for two. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere and would encourage others to try Normandie, but overall are left with no reason to visit again.

But get the larger pork plate if you have a crowd, a ton of food fo $37. The mussels, carrots, the bread and butter is excellent. We loved the Steamed Mussels, Bouillabaisse Broth, Nduja Aioli* and charred octopus. Everything we had was great and their carrot cake with yogurt and ginger ice creams were terrific. A unique and well priced wine list means there are good values to be had around $40. The service is playful, but smart, they will cater to your needs. This is the carrot description. Miso Glazed Carrots Humboldt Fog, Bee Local Smoked Honey, Sticky Cashews, Mint This place is a new great addition to the pdx dining scene.

I've never been treated so badly. I came here for dinner with my wife and we were late. But later on, while the entire staff was drunk they refused to seat us. They laughed while we wanted to use the bathroom and said "sorry buddy". An awful place. And so disrespectful

Ginger and I had a great meal here. Food and service were excellent, with one small exception (see below). Started with the deviled eggs, which were rich and extravagant, with lots of tang. Followed with the octopus, which had a fabulous texture but was a bit overwhelmed by the other flavors in the bowl. Then had the smoked beets, which in contrast to the octopus matched well with their accompaniments, including a luxurious slab of Roquefort and some unexpectedly crunchy hazelnuts. Finished with the gnocchi, which had a really deep and satisfying flavor in the sauce and and an almost creamy texture in the gnocchi themselves. The table next to us ordered the burger and fries. The latter was a huge portion. The burger itself was a bit hilarious, with a giant onion ring stacked on top of it. The woman who ordered it wasn't sure how she was going to be able to get it into her mouth. The service was swift and we got excellent ordering advice from our server. The only disappointment was the wine by the glass list which leaned heavily on French and Italian wines, and I find usually disappoint. I started with a glass of the verdicchio, which was thoroughly uninteresting. The server then recommended a Slovenian rose which was the daily special, and it was a bit more complex. Both wines were served ice cold, which was a further disappointment. It took a good ten minutes of double-palming the glass to get them to a drinkable temperature.
Normandie Restaurant is definitely a must on a trip to Portland OR!
Had dinner several nights at Normandie while we stayed in Portland. Every dish we had was excellent, the wait staff was very attentive, and the cocktails were superb. Great wine list as well. Can't say enough about this new spot. A real winner
