Great fresh tasting pizza!

By bigthicket |

This place is somewhat like a tapas bar with the exception of the pizza. It was way larger than my daughter and I expected so we were thankful we had split it. We even had enough to take home for the next day. We chose the vegetarian pizza which was topped with very thin slices of zucchini. We, of course, expecting small portions had also ordered the arancini. These were delicious. (we got 5 of them in one order) They were like fried rice balls but in fact were filled with risotta and sweet peas. Also enjoyed their wide selection of beers. They are all listed on a big chalkboard. Loved the decor of this place with the white tablecloths topped with brown butcher paper. We had wonderful service too from our waiter, Jake. They say on their menu that they change some of their menu items regularly so I can't wait to come back and try some other things.

Great small dishes - often at a reasonable price!

By Andrew S |

A little hipster and a little foodie, which normally wouldn't be a positive, but here, it kinda works. The portions are labelled as 'small', but really, one of the 'small plates' is a full meal for me and I tend to eat a decent amount. Lots of great things to choose from here - a wide variety of ever-changing raw oysters (if you're into them, which I found out I am not; I prefer the fried variety) and amazing dishes of pasta or proteins. We've probably been to Nosh 6 or 7 times, and Nosh advertises on Groupon regularly, which definitely puts the food in a very reasonable price range. Also, my wife enjoys the cocktails - particularly the Dark and Stormy - this is her favorite place to get one! Don't miss it!

A good nosh

This wasn't very busy so we got great attention for lunch. It's a very well designed and appointed restaurant. Food is from an ala crate menu, which we enjoyed putting together to make family style tastings. Try the French fries. Chef is onsite so there's attention to detail.

Lower level of Silo. Try the shrimp corndogs.

Innovative flavor combinations

By Deborah Y |

We love this restaurant because the flavor combinations are always unusual and different--ones I would never think of at home. Tonight we had a wonderful salad with roasted tomatoes, zucchini, garlic and spice with the creamiest cheese and prosciutto with toast. Though tempted, I did not lick the plate. This was followed by the "Bomba" pizza which had spicy tomato sauce, spicy oil, cheese, red peppers and onions. Dominos can never compete with this. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse canoli thing with raspberries and hazelnut. Would I go back? In a New York minute. Would I take friends and family? Absolutely. Kid friendly? Not really. This is a restaurant that serves food for grownups.

Very Good Experience

By JD D |

On the bottom level of Silo's Elevated Cuisine is a nicely sized appetizer and bar known as Nosh. My wife and I visited and had high expectations as we've more than once enjoyed the upper level restaurant. Nosh has a unique appetizer menu and a good selection of beer and mixed drinks. We ate the Wild Boar pizza and it was delicious (my wife thought not so much). We also tasted a cucumber refresher alcoholic beverage and we both thought it was great. The service was excellent as the food was delivered promptly and hot.

BEST TRUFFLE FRIES

By Katie M |

i cannot say enough about how delicious the truffle fries were - we almost ordered them again for dessert! The wild-boar pizza was also unreal!

Excellent

The barrata plate is a must. We have tried almost everything on the menu and have not be unhappy with anything. One of our favorite local places to eat.

Silo's Little Brother, Small Plates - Big Taste

By TomRuthWilliams |

We were headed for the interstate after visiting the McNay Art Museum when I spotted the Silo's sign. I had read about Silo but didn't know about the small, attached casual Nosh setup. The menu is small but very eclectic. We started with Shrimp Corn Dogs, then had Lemongrass-Habanero Pork Meatballs with Chilled Citrus Noodles and Korean Beef BBQ Tacos with Sesame Ginger Slaw. My better half tried the Housemade Italian Doughnut Holes with Two Chocolate Dipping Sauces for dessert. The fried items were a tad greasy but all-in-all, some very interesting fresh flavors.

Not too impressive IMOH, except for the butternut squash ravioli

By Doug P |

My parents offered to take me to Nosh for my birthday. They had dined there before with some friends and enjoyed the meal. I was not overly impressed. We arrived about 7:30 on a Friday evening. We were told that the kitchen was running behind and although we could have a table outside, it would likely take awhile for our food. I thought this was very considerate. We decided to stay and it was slow, but we were not ignored. We ordered everal dishes including the arancini, grilled Argentinian sausage, house salad, butternut squash ravioli, and a margherite pizza. The arancini was okay but rather bland for my taste. Out of the six we were served, two went uneaten because one was enough to taste. The grilled sausage was good with a nice crisp outside. The house salad was good but rather small to share amongst three people. The pizza was okay but not great; the crust was bland and the tomato sauce was okay but not great. The butternut squash was excellent and by far the best dish out of the choices we made. I would recommend the raviol as it was some of the best I have ever tasted. Given the long wait for our food, it would be nice if they served something to snack on.

A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED!

By RoseSA |

Perhaps I was expecting too much. I had read the reviews in the paper which particularly touted the Butternut Squash Ravioli. Three of us had lunch at Nosh in January. We all three ordered different dishes in order to taste more. I, of course, ordered the Ravioli. One diner ordered the gnocchi, and the other ordered the short ribs. The gnocchi was really, really wonderful. I would certainly order that the next time. The short ribs were quite tasty. Now we come to the ravioli. It was actually tough, and the taste of sage did not come through. The wine selections were quite nice, and the service was good. The server offered explanations and ideas.

Great Selection

We enjoyed the first of many trips to Nosh. Very much enjoyed the wings, korean tacos and mushroom brushetta. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Very good, small-dish restaurant

By Mohsman |

My son is a chef and very much wanted to take my wife and me to Nosh. I can see why. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. They have an interesting and varied menu of small, tapas-like dishes. Tip: Because it is a small dish-style place, you need to order enough dishes to satisfy everyone. We knew we were going to share the dishes, ordered enough, and really enjoyed it. The dishes were all creative, fresh, and delicious. I can see why my son wanted us to try it. I would definitely go back again.

Two great meals

By KatiePWood |

Ate here twice over the holidays. The first night we tried the arancini (fried risotto balls) and truffle fries for appetizers. Both were wonderful! I had the butternut squash ravioli. It was light and savory. My son had the gnocchi, which we also had on our next visit. It is the lightest gnocchi I have ever had. We had a large party on the second night and tried lots of different things. The wild boar sliders were incredible. The wild boar could not have been more tender. I loved the buffalo mozzarella skewer. The seasonings were perfect and not overpowering. We tried two different pizzas and they were great too. If you are a beer lover you will love the huge selection. One in our party did the beer tasting and loved it. Everything was followed by the best tiramasu I have ever had. Although chef Luca Della Casa has only been at Nosh a few months, he has definitely added class to the place. Love the cozy atmosphere too.

a delightful, simply lunch place with a lot of class

By 912mytravels |

I can't say enough nice things about the wait staff at the Nosh - so accomodating, unobtrusive, courteous and always courteous. The simply decor, the simple menu and the delicious specials at lunch time have been a surprise every time - will go back with friends at any time!!

Umm, no.

By Precious J. |

Service was weird... 3 of the 4 employees I came across seemed like they had been drinking (valet, a server, and bartender). None of the front of the house employees wore uniforms and one looked very unkempt. Saw on the clock and off duty employees going behind the bar to pour themselves drinks. Our server (who was also the bartender) did not seem to know the menu every well, based on a couple questions we asked her. I worked in the service industry for over a decade, so these things were all red flags for me and really turned me off. I would have given this place 3 stars, but I couldn't get over the employees, so 2 was all I could give. Food was average at best. Sadly, I could have went to Chili's for better food. My hubby had the beef sliders. Fries were average. Burgers were heavily seasoned with pepper and topped with lettuce and tomatoes and a plain bun. Nothing special. My nachos (called "noshos") were supposed to be individually topped with a bean puree, cheese, cilantro, and lime cream. There was no cilantro or lime cream, but I didn't even complain because we already decided that we were going to go eat somewhere else after we finished our apps. I love Silo on 1604 and was expecting a lot more from this place. I won't be back.

Lunch

By JohnJosephSAT |

The scaloppini was tasty and nicely plated although a little on the small side. The cannolli which I had before was a disappointment but the server went upstairs to Silo and got some of Silo's famous, incredible Coconut Cream Pie which was out-of-this-world ($9). Lunch ran about $25 pp including tip and tax without alcohol.

The WORST restaurant experience !!!!!!!

By Al M |

Reservation was for 6:30 PM. Arrived at 6:30 PM Placed order shortly after 6:30 PM Food finally arrived at 7:45 PM When I complained about the delay I was told "It was Chef's day off" and there was only one person preparing all of the food. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told "It was Manager's day off". I finally told the waitress we were leaving if the food did not arrive the waitress began crying. We finished our meal at 8:30 and paid our bill. Then we were told the Manager sent us a message - Because of our complaining "We would never be allowed to eat at Nosh or any restaurant affiliated with Nosh- i.e. Silo chain ! If you want total aggravation go to Nosh !! If you want to be humiliated go to Nosh !! If you want a pleasant enjoyable meal DO NOT GO TO NOSH !!!

Still yummy and outstanding

By MuffetB |

We've visited NOSH at least 4-5 times over the past 6 months. We dined there most recently last Thursday evening. Service is always top notch. We love their chopped salad to start. I've also had the shrimp salad, very good too. Can't beat the truffle oil fries! And the pizza -- margherita pizza is my favorite, though we've had the veggie and the bomba (spicy). The crust is the best! They have changed up the menu some, not drastically, and what has been added looks wonderful, but I still come back to the pizza and chopped salad. Do give NOSH a try - you won't be disappointed!

Casual Elegance

By 880koyt |

This location is close to where we live, so for convenience purposes, we tried it and was very pleasantly surprised. We had the plate with the ham, cheese, bread and veggies and it was great, especially the bread withe the cheese. I understand that this is the most popular plate. Try the Cucumber Refresher or the Dirty Martini made with Chopin Vodka to drink. Really, really good.

You'll be missing out if you don't NOSH

This is fantastic for a group of friends or for a first date. the food is tasty and served in a unique way. come share a drink with a friend and enjoy your casual evening !

Cousin to Silo worth a visit

By Steve S |

First time to try Nosh located on the ground floor of the Austin Highway Silo. Used this for beverages & appetizers before going upstairs for entrees. Mussels with truffle fries is a winner. Beef tartare - not so much. Friendly, casual ambience. Excellent service. Luca de la Casa of Next Food Network Star infamy heads this kitchen as well as Silo.

Gotta try this place, it will impress

By JANENARELLE_11 |

I happened upon this place and was taken aback that something like this existed in a strip mall. The food was very good (Barramundi, Lamb, Crab Cakes, Ahi Tuna) and the wine selection was close to excellent. That made my night. You served Aussie Fish and Wine, can't be beat mate. I also love the bar right below which allows you to dance off the dessert. A must try when in town. MANGIA

Great Neighborhood spot

By Lizzie M |

Nosh is a great go to place. It seems to have something for everyone in my family but the menu is simple. I love the fried chickpeas and burratta. Pastas and pizzas are good and the specials as well. Lots of beer on tap and a nice wine list.

Lunches and dinners

Been her a couple times. Really like the food and atmosphere. The dishes are good, my favorite truffle French fries. Will come back.

I guess they don't care about their customers

By AndrewS_67 |

I recently read a review of Nosh and it sounded incredible, exactly the kind of place that my wife and I like to go. I did my research on the place and then got off of work early just so that we could drive across town to try it. When we arrived we were eagerly anticipating an evening of great food, warm atmosphere, and good drink. The place looked just as advertised except that the doors were locked. The lights were on but no one appeared to be home. After a puzzled couple of minutes two employees came into the front room. I went to the door and was told that they were closed for a private party. I understand that this is a business and they need to make money however they can, but that leaves me feeling quite unappreciated and I nicely told the lady that or rather that I would not be back. I'm not sure how they could have made this right but at the very minimum notice on their facebook/website would have gone a long way. What it did say was open Tues - Sat 11-11. My time is valuable and I will not waste it on a business that doesn't understand that. However, It ended up being wonderful night anyways as we went to Zinc in downtown S.A. and had a great time. They really appreciated our business and it showed. Too bad about Nosh, but what else can I say?

NOSH–Small Plates, Big Taste

By STEVEN D |

Nosh is the perfect place for a casual dining experience. My wife and I decided to dine here after an Alamo Heights city hall architecture presentation ran late. Their plate servings are the right size, not too heavy, and freshly prepared. We had their cheese plate sampler, an eclectic variety of cheeses complimented with olives, nuts, and honey! For dinner, their shrimp salad plate and their spring mix salad with chicken were just the right for a late night meal. Cost for entire meal: $45 which includes drinks, tax and tip.

not as good as Silo counterpart

By lilikoi01 |

Way too expensive for the mediocre food that you get! Better take your lunch upstairs to Silo where the chef is 10 times better! Nosh goes for the hippie, indie kind of feel where Silo is more upscale and elegant. But in no way can I give anything beyond average for Nosh in terms of food!

Just the right touch ...

By J C |

This is a place for everyone -- especially if you like innovative dishes ... crab sliders and korean tacos to name only a few; and you can enjoy with a very impressive array of bar drinks or some very good Belgian and German brews that are familiar to the well traveled. These folks know how to make some great stuff so my advice for everyone in your party to order something different and sample as many of the menu items as possible. It is a treat to go to a place like this as there are so few here in San Antonio. Great food, drinks, and setting. Go dressed up or in shorts and t-shirts -- it is comfortable for all. Enjoy.

Wonderful lunch!

By elviejo1951 |

Last Saturday my husband and I enjoyed lunch at Nosh. This was our first visit but won't be our last. It is a great place for small plates which allowed us to try several dishes - our favorite way to dine. There were several wine options and many, many beer choices. We shared the burrata plate, the sliders and the misto - all were excellent. Service was professional and helpful; prices were very reasonable for the quality of food served!

Good food

By GlobetrotterBella |

Tried Nosh on a Friday night. Arrived to a half a empty restaurant and immediately wondered if I made a mistake driving so far. The food and service proved me wrong. The waitress was speedy and pleasant. We ordered the Burrata, a pizza and the fries. We thought we were going to have to order more, but for two of us the amount of food was sufficient. Everything was delicious. The menu looked awesome and now I want to go try all the other plates.

My "go to" place with out of town visitors

By Stephen L |

I love going here because it is low key and intimate. Very casual and the food is consistently good. But for me, there is the problem......they haven't changed the menu in YEARS and I have eaten everything on the menu several times. I would love to see something new and different. The beer selection is fantastic and changes seasonally so why not the food? There are several things that should remain (truffled french fries for example) but how about some new pastas, salads, pizzas. Especially since Dough Pizzaria offers so many pizza choices. Let's show more creativity chef.

Excellent food in a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere!

By Rosezdent |

Small & cozy and the food is always great! A wonderful neighborhood place to relax & unwind. There's a good selection of wines, beers and cocktails, too. And if you want an upscale experience, dine upstairs at Silo!

Casual and yummy

By MuffetB |

I've dined at Silo Elevated Cuisine upstairs, and one evening while husband was traveling, I decided to try Nosh my myself. "Small plates, big taste" is what they say. I began with the chopped salad, which was a very nice size and a wonderful balsamic vinegar dressing. I then had the margherita pizza, which was wonderful. Such an outstanding crust and perfectly cooked. I ended up taking 2 slices home for lunch the next day. For dessert, I could not pass up the house-made vanilla gelato, served with chocolate sauce and a nice homemade cookie. The best part of it was the expresso which can be poured over the top. For $6 I don't know when I've enjoyed a dessert more. Actually, I enjoyed the whole meal and can't wait to return!

Small Plates and Great Food.

By mccoycr1 |

For a restaurant that serves mostly appetizers the menu at Nosh is as varied as one can find in San Antonio. They have a great menu of dishes for sharing and all have been excellent. I believe their pizza rivals other pricier establishments and tastes better too at a much lower price.

Delicious, with no wait!

Trendy little spot

By Cathy P |

Took my teenage daughter and niece for lunch and they loved it. Located on Austin Highway, it really stands out in this neighborhood. The place is small and intimate and the service was exceptional. The menu offers everything from gourmet pizzas to pasta dishes. The portions are not very large but the flavors are intense. Great for a lunch or dinner date or girls night or lunch.

Taste,taste....

By torino7788564 |

Been hearing about Nosh for awhile and we finally made it. Our server was very inviting and gave great service, the food choices were wide and we finally decided on pizza and a pasta dish both had great taste and were satisfied with the portion size. Have recommended to our friends and will certainly visit again.

Great pre-Christmas Eve starter

By Tony G |

Enjoyed a very nice evening at NOSH on Austin Highway. Started with great Champagne cocktails then had appetizers of Beef Tartare and Wild Boar sliders. Absolutely superb!!!! Fried Calamari was good, but, bar grade calamari. Still better then most. The shrimp salad was super. My wife stated it was one of the best ever. Not the best. Service was great. NOSH was moderately busy, but didn't seem to press the staff. All-in-all a very nice light dinner, or appetizer pre- dinner stop. I highly recommend for folks who like a light fare evening, or like me, a family member who tends to be picky about dinner. Disciplined Weight watchers will love this place. Delicious salads really hit- the- spot. Give NOSH a try. You might be surprised how a light dinner can be so much fun.

Arrogance and Pride

By tgates5 |

What are your thoughts about a chef and his staff who adamantly refuse to accommodate the tastes and preferences of his customers? Chef Luca Della Casa did that just last night. Nosh is located within the confines of one of our favorite restaurants, The Silo on Austin Hwy. here in San Antonio, TX. We had noticed Nosh on our visits to Silo and resolved to try it. When we arrived last night, November 30, 2012, we gladly sat at the bar which is a practice of ours - usually the best service and the same food served at table. Not this night. Although our presence was acknowledged, the lady behind the bar waited on several of the half dozen tables, delivered food and prepared drinks for other patrons at the bar without inclination to serve us. When we were finally able to get her attention, she replied she was very busy. Not off to a good start. And there were two other wait persons working the restaurants small seating area at the time. You will think... well we should have known how this would turn out. When perusing the menu, I was delighted to find beef tartare listed under small plates, which is supposed to be a specialty of the house. I saw capers, dijon mustard and shallots listed as accompaniments to the beef and asked the lady behind the bar if those were served on the side, or pre-mixed with the tartare. She replied that the chef preferred to mix all the ingredients together before serving. I replied by asking if I could have them on the side, as I might not want to use them all. The lady behind the bar was adamant about the matter and again repeated the chef's preference. So, I asked her to check with the chef to see if an exception could be made. At first she refused to do so, claiming that she knew what the chef would say, and that after all, she was the chef's "right hand lady". I asked if I might speak to the chef and she said it was unlikely. In the end, she did speak to him and he refused to either come out to discuss my preferences or consider my request. My wife then ordered another item - wild boar sliders with jalapenos and parmesan and we resolved to assuage our hunger by splitting the plate. They were very mediocre in both texture and taste. So, we left hungry and unhappy and fully resolved to not return.

Great dinner special from NOSH

By STEVEN D |

NOSH ran a three day special this week, three course dinner for two for just $27. I made dinner reservations on OpenTable.com and went Friday evening. The courses consisted of cherry tomato and mozzarella salad, maltagliati pasta with spicy sausage, and vanilla sponge cake with chocolate filling. The portions were generous and the meal was delicious. By the time we left, it seemed everyone in the restaurant was taking advantage of the special. Get on the NOSH mailing list and take advantage of their great dinner specials.

Amazing food but just very small portions.

By KC |

So of course the theme of this restaurant is small portions which can be shared. However, I went alone and ordered the shrimp avocado salad. It was spectacular! What I missed in size was made up for in taste. Woudl be a great place to go with more people and I look forward to visiting Silo if they share the same chef.

Pax de Deux

By OmniEpicurean |

I decided to have a "la-di-da" lunch today. An occasion that one usually reserves for a familial rendezvous with one's grammy and having lunch somewhere frou frou like Nordstrom with tea and finger sandwiches - i.e., tiny chef prepared food, large prices . . .. Nosh was having a two for one "Snack" special so, since I had never been there, I thought this semi-posh son of Silo would probably fit the bill. Ordered a pair of snacks; Argentinian sausage about the diameter of your index finger, grilled and served in a small, but expressive coil en brochette - accompanied by mild chimichurri with more of a velvet hammer versus the usual garlic wallop and a little more acid (vinegar?) than I like; Italian roast (porchetta) that was sliced delightfully thin and captured between toasted rustic bread halves with a smooth aioli and sauteed mushrooms that became part of the buttery avocado layer with a texture very satisfying on the tongue. Yep. You could say I liked it. Not just because of where I was or who prepared it. I liked it because it was good. Did it speak to my soul or grab me way down deep inside by the pyloric sphincter? No and yes respectively . . . . just kidding. But was it "full price" good? H-m-m-m??? I am definitely not one of those that favors chef inspired dishes with exorbitant prices nor am I of a mentality that says if the food is good I don't mind paying a lot. Hogwash!!. I have had very, very well prepared food and it does not have to be expensive (pet peeve if you couldn't tell, and I will stop my rant here). Since my opinion usually favors frugality, the aforementioned question is one that you will just have to answer for yourself.

Light and bright

By torino7788564 |

My wife and I went for a small meal and were not disappointed, we shared the Mac-cheese with wild boar, which was very tasty and appealing. Our second item was the veggie pizza and cooked just right not very heavy meal. The service was excellent and helpful, and prices were reasonable. Great place for a cozy lunch.

A bit greasy

By timesharetraveler11 |

I was expecting Nosh to serve healthy food, but was disappointed. I ordered fish tacos and the fish was deep fried, also the corn tortillas were fried. I thought it was "eclectic" food as that is how it was advertised. The food was ok, the service was good. Best thing was that it was near the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

Tasty savory bites

By Ana S |

My husband and I stopped in for dinner the other night. I had always been curious about this restaurant and I am glad we took the time to try something new. Apparently the restaurant has a new chef and the menu has changed. We were pleasantly surprised. We had the pork belly, with truffle fries and pizza. For desert we had the deconstructed tiramisu. OMG it was delicious. I had never eaten anything like that before and enjoyed every bite! I highly recommend this restaurant, we will be back!

Excellent

By Beth S |

The barrata plate is a must. We have tried almost everything on the menu and have not be unhappy with anything. One of our favorite local places to eat.

Inventive and always very fresh.

By nysatx |

We've eaten at Nosh 4 or 5 times, and have never been disappointed. The menu is not big, but great care is put into every dish. Ingredients are super fresh. The menu changes fairly often, so if there is something you loved on one visit, it might not be there the next. On a recent visit we had a selection of exotic and delicious oysters, a wild boar pizza, and a shrimp salad that was fantastic. They have an extensive beer menu, but only a few wines by the glass. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are just right. The atmosphere is casual. I hope the executive chef Luca Della Casa, fast becoming a star on television, continues to maintain these high standards.

Can't wait to go back

By runners2010 |

Our family loves coming for lunch. We always have great service and we love the chef's different dishes every time we go. We love to get the parmesan fries every visit.
