Loved it!

By Gary B |

Had the good fortune to eat at Nowak's last evening. I found everything to be just about perfect. Met friends for drinks at the bar before our reservation. My only complaint was with the bar service which I'll get to later. I opted for marinated asparagus for an app, caesar salad and the filet. Excellent! Our table actually ordered a number of different apps so we could share and each was as delicious as the other. I'm not from Atlanta and this was my first visit to Nowak's, but I will definitely return. As noted, I was a bit disappointed with the bar service. Neither the bar or restaurant were very crowded on a Tuesday night, but the bar service was quite slow. I suspect this was not the best bar staff Nowak's has since it was a Tuesday night so this might not be an issue on another night. Even with that complaint, I'm still giving them 5 stars!

Good, but felt short changed.

We have eaten at Nowacks many times before and it was a go to during Covid because they have a pleasant outside dining area. Our most recent visit was a bit disappointing. Let me start by saying I routinely discount reviews where the sole complaint is price. If the food and service are good, let’s not get too hysterical about a few dollars here or there. My issue was not so much the price,It the serving size. I love their steak frites dish which is priced at $32- fine. But the other night I was served 3-4 extremely thin and small pieces of beef and 1/2 cup of fries. My heart will be better off I suppose, but it really felt like I was shortchanged. Hopefully, a one off experience, but we have come to expect more from this neighborhood staple.

Great neighborhood bar and restaurant

By Traveling Coach |

I recently had dinner at Nowak's and met the owner who is the son of a long time restaurateur, Hal Nowak. The bar is right at the main entrance and is a picture perfect neighborhood bar. There is outside (covered) seating outside just off the bar. The dining room is moderately sized with minimalist interior design..........but still homey and warm with soft lighting. The menu has a distinct New Orleans flavor and is sprinkled with solid fare such as spinach and artichoke dip, bleu cheese chips and a delightful crab tartar which is not always on the menu. Salad, steaks, pasta and seafood round out the menu with a number of side dishes available such as fries, green beans, asparagus and cole slaw. The wine list is comfortable and features some very good wines. Dessert offerings are plentiful but I chose the creme brulee, which was quite good. Overall, this is a delightful restaurant and worth another trip. It is located in the Virginia Highlands area and parking was not a problem as it was not crowded the night I ate there. Might be problematic on a busy night. Try this and be sure to look up the owner, Blaiss. He is quite affable and usually in the restaurant most days and evenings.

Great food and better service

From start to finish we had an awesome experience. You can make reservations online, similar to Open Table. Plenty of parking in the area. Unbelievable service. CJ was our waiter. The barbecue shrimp were good, but the mussels were great!! Had the New York Strip and was cooked to perfection. My daughter had the salmon and it too was cooked perfect. They didn't have military discount so they gave me a slice of German Chocolate cake free. We met the owner too. Just a great evening. I recommend this place for impeccable service and great food!! What a menu and we're going back!!!

Great service on patio, gluten-free no problem

By Jean H |

A group of us had dinner on the patio. Timothy was a spectacular waiter. I had a great cocktail and liked everything I had. Tables very well-spaced, and fans going great guns. Felt very safe. No problem with gluten-free for the celiacs in the group. Would definitely go again.

Exqusite Dining at Nowak's in Sandy Springs

By Taste & Luxury |

I have visited many Steak Houses around the World from Turkey to London. It is very rare that I have an immersive experience that incorporates excellent fair and exqusite presentation. Our orders were served prompt with no excessive wait. I had the 8oz Filet Mignon medium rare, Lobster Bisque, Artichoke hearts, and Mashed Potatoes. The Filet was perfectly cooked and the Lobster Bisque was delicious with large chunks of Lobster. The restauant was small and intimate and filled up quickly but we were able to have a pleasant conversation without raised voices. I have over 336 TripAdvisor recommendations and over 120K readers of my reviews. I highly recommend if you are an aficionado of Steak well prepared you should make a reservation. My visit was to the Sandy Springs Location.

FUN NIGHT AT NOWAK"S

By Lynda M |

Three of us had dinner last Saturday night at Nowak's. Wanted to sit on the patio, but it was full. We were seated in the main dining room and felt very safe as all the tables were spaced more then eight feet apart. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. I decided on seafood that night and one of the appetizer specials for the night was Oysters Bienville. They were delicious. I also ordered a dozen raw oysters. They were cold and salty, just like I like them. Normally these two items would have been enough for me, but the chicken parmesan was calling my name. It came with a side of spaghetti with marinara. The chicken was so tender and after when asked about dessert, I called "uncle". I heard they have a delicious chocolate cake and also serve profiteroles, my fav. Dessert will have to wait until I go back next month for my birthday. Can't wait One of my friends had a hamburger and Trout bites for their app and another had a gin martini and salmon. Everyone was happy. A nice evening at a fun and delicious restaurant.

Intimate and Quality Neighborhood Spot

Dined for Christmas eve dinner. Pros: easy in and out. Interiors are cool and well done. Food is was quite good across the board. Potato chips are Buckhead dinner recipe. Cool bar. Cons; service a little off but natural given date. Tomahawk not as good we individual cuts. Great addition to Sandy Springs! Owner Blaze is son of Hals owner. Mother makes thr desserts.

Best steak in Sandy Springs....

By Matt Ro |

Went to this place for my bday. The shrimp app, which was suggested by the waitress, was ok. It was heavy on the garlic, but that's my speed, but probably not everyone's. We both got the Jenni salad, and it was average. When ordering our mains, I noticed there wasn't a Mac and cheese option for a side. Can you be a steak place and not serve mac??? Maybe, maybe not, but it seemed odd. Then the steak came out, and it saved the day. Slightly charred and basted in what I believe was some type of compound butter. It was absolutely wonderful, and my wife, who isn't a steak first person, was in love at first bite. Me being a skeptic, I eagerly jumped in, and it held.up. The temp, texture, bite, and flavor were all on point. If they can get their apps and sides settled, they will be a success in an area that is short on prime steak house options.
