Quaint, great food, cheap

By Kwixdraw |

One block from the Wyndham Riverwalk Hotel there is a Gem of a little cafe. The menu is not big but what we had was good, and cheap. Steak and Eggs was 5.95. Everything else, cheaper. From pancakes to taquitos. We only had breakfast and when I looked at the lunch menu I wished I could have been able to come back for lunch. This is not a new cafe either, but has been there for many years. I think I will thumb my way back to S.A. Just to eat there everyday.

Literally an Oasis for an authentic Mexican breakfast

By Trekwaters |

What a pleasant surprise to find this little cafe for breakfast one morning. The decor is colorful and just a little fun place to visit. Everyone was courteous and friendly. The tacos were so good and the prices reasonable. Everyone around us was friendly and conversational. Neat atmosphere! Close to everything downtown.

My Little Get Away

El Oasis is family owned and run. Momma is still in the kitchen keeping everything just right. Breakfast or lunch it's all good, home made and fresh. Featured is authentic Tex-Mex. Some of the best in San Antonio. But, if you're not in the mood for Tex-Mex El Oasis serves a fantastic, fresh cooked burger and fries (add any topping you like), juicy fresh and hot. One of my favorites is the Thursday special, home made meat loaf with corn, mashed potatoes and a side salad. Comfort food for a hectic day. The servers are friendly, efficient, and fun. If you are downtown, they will deliver.

Lunch

Local to conference so nipped across. Clearly busy but no problem seating me. Great lunch offers - had the Gorditas. Tasty. Real friendly service and attentive.

Amazing

By KLsig |

I asked our Bellman for a nice local place for breakfast .. being from N.C I'm not familiar with authentic Mexican food and honestly couldn't pronounce most of them .. the young ladies working were very helpful and I asked them to bring several dishes of their choice all of which were delicious... I went to visit a family friend who is in the special forces and this was his first time off base in 5 months .. he ate 3 whole plates I had 1 and the bill was only $22.00! It's not a fancy place but clean and friendly !

Mex Breakfast

By Amit B |

I went here for breakfast and they did not disappoint. No frills restaurant. I had coffee with Huevos Rancheros and later got a delicious taco.

Amazing and authentic.

Great local place with dedicated staff. Tortillas are best I've ever had. Generous portions and high quality, home made food. Highly recommend

Don't miss it!

You know how you find those little hole-in-the-wall kind of places where the food is authentic and good? This is one of those places. We were staying at the Wyndham hotel, and walked across the plaza to this little place. It's nothing fancy, but the food is wonderful. it was so good, that we went the next morning for breakfast....let me just say - Migas!!! Across the street again for lunch, and my companion ordered a dish with mole sauce, and I thought he was going to lick the plate! Please don't be put off by the tattoo parlor next door! Prices are VERY reasonable.

Good food at a good price.

My husband and I were looking for breakfast and were pointed to Oasis restaurant by the gentlemen at Bunz. The carne guisada and Picadillo tacos were excellent. They have great daily specials and is inexpensive to boot. We are here for a few days, so we will be coming back. Breakfast ends at 11am. They close at 3pm and at 2pm on Saturday. It's not fancy but the food more than makes up for it. Enjoy!

A Great Find!

By Erik_and_Cheryl |

This is an Erik only review. I ate here on March 23, 2023. I found this place by accident as I made a wrong turn heading to the Alamo. I am glad I found it. I arrived maybe 20 minutes before close and asked if I could still get lunch. They were extremely friendly and had no problem with it. I got a combo platter that came with homemade corn tortillas. The service was great, the people so friendly and the food delicious. Added bit of charm was the menus being lamented to the top of the table. A great lunch. I highly recommend this establishment.

Fresh Breakfast Tacos

By ClosSinde |

Amazing FOOD!!! This place is a slice of home. The staff take time to freshly prepare everything. The results are hot tortillas that melt in your mouth and retried beans that aren't overly greasy. Definitely will go back should my travels ever bring me back to San Antonio.

Don't be fooled by the exterior

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices served by cheerful and charming staff this is the place. Chorizo con huevo plate is delicious. Breakfast tacos start at $1.20. I'd have breakfast here every day if I could.

Great Prices.... Great Food!!

By Crandall12 |

They have a nice selection of Mexican Breakfast but for those you who like the traditional pancakes, bacon and eggs, they have that too for only $4.99. Plenty of food, I shared the plate with my 3 year old!! The pancakes (2) are big!! I would return for sure!! Kind of a mom and pop place... Very friendly!!

If you are hungry for super food.

This little place was two block's for the day's Inn downtown riverwalk. We asked about Great Mexican Food and this little place has it. It has been there for 19 year's . The wife and I had the taco's and you did not need all that stuff on there to make them Good and cheap. We could hop on a plane right now and go there to eat. The people are very nice and if we had a big party I would try to hire them to cook for us. Thank-You for Great Food. Hope to see you again soon. Anita & Rich

A True Gem

Fresh and handmade tortillas! We ate here for breakfast many times during our stay. The breakfast tacos were amazing. Just wished we had a chance to come back for lunch. Can't beat the food, service and authenticity anywhere else in San Antonio.

True TEX-MEX

By Nicole M |

Hole in the wall down town but Oh so yummy! Food takes a little longer but it's worth the wait because of quality and freshness. Tacos are about 1.50 and breakfast plates about 3.95. My whole family loved it. FYI one taco is plenty.

Perfect hole-in-the-wall Mexican!

By CnBabroad |

As others have said, this place looks like a dive and has more locals than tourists. TOTALLY worth it! Delicious, affordably-priced food - I had a combo platter so I could try a little of everything - and friendly service. I drank my body weight in iced tea because it was so hot out! This was only about a 3-minute walk from the Wyndham, but it's unfortunately farther away from the more touristy part of the River Walk. Wish I could go back and try breakfast, because their breakfast options sounded delicious and the Mexican restaurants near me don't serve it.

Better Than It Looks from the Street

By Ray H |

Yes, it looks like a dive from the outside. Be brave and walk inside. The staff is great and the food is very good. The prices are super reasonable and SURPRISE! You can get what you want (NOT THE CASE AT MY HOTEL). The wait staff speak English and Spanish. I had Huevos Rancheros with bacon and coffee. It came to the table quickly, exactly as ordered and was gobbled up equally quickly. Delicious! Remember to tip generously for breakfast. While you are there take a look at the dinner menu which is right there on the table.

A hole in the wall

Good food and service. It's not in the greatest location but we're glad we tried it. A lot of food for a small price. Overall we'd eat there again!

Our new favorite place

By Elizabeth O |

This restaurant doesn't look like much, but this place was clearly the most authentic of all the places we ate. We just wanted a light breakfast, so we each got a couple of tacos. The eggs were freshly cooked and the tortillas were so soft and tasty, they had to be freshly cooked also. Picadillo con papas (ground meat and potatoes) was awesome. Machacado con hueva was spectacular. Great food without a great big price tag, like most other places here. They are only open until 3 pm, so don't miss it!

Quaint Cafe

By JustJamesus |

Not a large menu, and entirely Tex-Mex, they won't have something for everyone. They do have pancakes and bacon, so the kiddos seemed happy. The breakfast tacos were outstanding! The homemade tortillas really make the difference. Staff is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Find Steps From The Wyndham

By BedCab |

Wow! We stepped out of the Wyndham and wanted to find some authentic Mexican food. We walked up to Main and spotted this place. I quickly checked TA and saw it had a 4.5 rating and knew this was the place. It's small and may be lacking in curb appeal, which is a great disguise because the food and service is incredible. I had the huevos rancheros and it was delicious and very affordable. The tortillas are homemade and perfectly prepared. My partner had the carne guisada and it was amazing. If you are looking for a great authentic Mexican meal that is way better than anything you can find on the Riverwalk or nearby at Mi Tierra's or Margaritas and way more affordable then this is the place for you. Do not let the looks fool you. I frequent San Antonio regularly and I will bump this one to the top. Well done Oasis Cafe!!!!!

If you want authentic, this is your place.

Don't judge this place from the outside, or from the inside. The food is amazing. It's where the locals eat so it's not priced for tourists and if the food wasn't great it wouldn't be able to stay in business. Sure, go to the touristy places as well, but for the most authentic Mexican food you don't need to look any further.

Very kind people here

By Kristen H |

I was trying to get breakfast for my toddler. I ordered her a bean and egg burrito. Didn't realize the minimum order amount was $5. As I headed out, the female cashier called out to me that she'd give it to me for free. I went back the next day to pay with cash, but I didn't realize they are closed on Sunday (my last day in the city). They were so kind to me and my little girl.

Good food, low prices

Very good food, very reasonably priced. The lunch specials are amazingly good and inexpensive as well. Service is excellent also.

Really nice ambience

By FabiLuc |

Went here without advance notice of what to expect. The service is REALLY good, had the shimp tacos and they were fenomenal! Three little tacos full of flavor. Also had the crab cakes or something like that-- call recall the exact name cause it wasnt my favorite. I had creme brule for dessert and it was magnificent as well! If i have more time in SA i would certainly go back to Oasis

This is the real deal!
