Food Trucks Galore

By PJ I |

So glad my daughter and I stumbled upon this great experiance. It was opening night for the season. This is what we needed after the long day. I would recomend to find this place.

Great Place!

By BigPapaC |

Flew into SFO, checked into hotel and went straight to this cool spot found on TripAdvisor. What a neat atmosphere. Granted had a perfect weather night - 65 & clear skies. But there were lots of people, great, various food trucks and beer/wine/liquor, along with a live band, to enjoy while trying various foods. Lines get long the longer the night goes on, so earlier the better. But if you love trying different foods in a fun outdoor atmosphere check this place out.

Worth Looking For

By OliveGloucester |

I agree that the location is a bit out of the way but it's so worth looking for. I'd read about this before we went to SF so was determined to find it - we were not disappointed. Great selection of trucks, plenty to choose from. One of the things I went for was the fish taco's from The Taco Guys, just great :-) My husband said the beer was good. Good atmosphere, music and friendly people. Don't forget they are only at Fort Mason on a Friday evening.

Highly Recommended!

By LiWa2296 |

Very cool food truck market with live music and a huge selection of food and drinks. Very well organized! You should definitely try it out if you are in San Francisco!

Super fun place to stuff your face!

By aniamar6 |

I loved it, so much delicious food to chpose from, great music and atmosphere. Couldn't Ask For more. Very cool place to try out new foods and relax a little.

Fun Friday Evening!

By SFOYYZ_Eric |

Came here last night with friends. Off the Grid is always fun on a Friday evening. Filled with music and tons of good food trucks. Highly recommended!

Best meal in SF

By giliath |

We had a meal on our last night in the city here. It was great. The only problem was trying to decide what to eat as there is so much choice. The food is cooked fresh and is really tasty. Lots of catering trucks surround a plaza with a bar and music. It's friendly and fun. They all seem to take credit card which was good too. We had Korean barbecue chicken and cheesesteak - not from the same vendor - and they were both delicious. Forget the high class, high price venues. You must eat here.

A MUST for foodies!

By doitforthemiles |

Not sure how to spend a night out in SF or have FOMO when it comes to trying all the eats? This is where you need to be. I came here with my sister and we spent hours sipping cocktails, trying items from all of the food trucks from BBQ to a lobster roll to bao to doughnuts! All. The. Things. I loved that you can easily pay at all of the trucks with Apple Pay. It made it super easy to keep the lines moving and not have to be fumbling with cash/coins. There are a ton of tables and seating and the atmosphere is so lively and energetic. There really is something for everyone. Definitely a must-do when visiting San Francisco.

Food Truck Party

By rustycat83 |

Off the Grid offers 50 of the best food trucks in San Fran at the Fort Mason parking lot on Friday evening. It is also fun environment with thousands of people, live music, with a great party atmosphere. Our party of three picked three different food trucks to dine from and after a short wait, had our food in drinks and hand, found a picnic bench and sat down, and then enjoyed some great meals while listening to some great live music. Great people watching and something for everyone from 3 to 80 years of age, but mostly 20 and 30 year olds enjoying life.

Food truck paradise for this visitor to SF

By lrmcscott |

We stopped here while spending the day exploring SF and it was so worth the trip out to the Presidio! It had food options for all of us, great vietnamese food, great benedict truck, great vegetarian options, great coffee, great atmosphere! Lots of families were there with tents set up to avoid the sun- even in early September it was unseasonably hot. We got there just after 11 when it opened, which worked out great as there weren't really any lines and we all ate before it got too crowded. If I lived in SF we'd be going here close to every week!

A bit disappointed

By broutilde |

We went there on a sunday and the weather was perfect. It wasn't really crowded: we found space to sit and the waiting lines weren't so long. However, the prices are just outrageous here: 15 bucks for 2 empanadas? Ok it was good, but it wasn't that good...I felt a bit ripped of when i bought some beers (5 cans for 25$). The whole experience wasn't awful, but I won't come again.

Awesome time with family with great food!

By welovetotravel20 |

We had a great time at off the grid with family. Good food, live band and more! Too many selections that will surely satisfy anyone's cravings. We'll be back!

Gourmet Food Trucks, Great Fun on a Warm Evening

By Flyingm0nkeys |

I seriously think that every large city in America should have something like Off the Grid. I have been to food trucks in other cities, but nothing like quite like this! I went on a nice warm September evening and enjoyed the experience more than any restaurant I have been to in San Fran. There are probably over 30 food trucks to pick from, serving all types of gourmet food from various Asian cuisines, to Mexican, to Ethiopian... it really offers quite a diverse selection to choose from. To really make the experience great, they also have a stage with live music and vendors serving a range of drinks including micro-brews, cocktails, fresh juice, etc... This is a really unique experience for a date or something to also do with a bunch of friends or family, there is something for everybody to enjoy! Just make sure the weather is good, because it is definitely all outdoors!

A day in the park with visiting family

By Supemma |

My family recently came to visit me here in San Francisco, and although we hit the tourist sites and ate at some of the best restaurants in town, Fort Mason Off the Grid was the highlight of their trip. Hands down. We arrived right when it opened (11 am) and set down blankets to mark our territory for the day. (This is important - it gets pretty busy later on in the day!) Although the weather was a little windy and gloomy at first - the sun made its appearance around noon and we ended up leaving with red cheeks. (Bring sunscreen y'all!) We ate from a variety of different trucks and shared almost all of it, considering there was about 10 of us. My family had been to San Francisco before, and they said this was by far one of the best things they have done here. Highly recommend to families with children, teenagers... basically any age rage will enjoy the day here. There's corn hole set up and nice restrooms in the Presidio buildings as well. It's the perfect spot to picnic - or try a variety of food trucks all at once. They want to go back next time they visit. :)

Great Way to Try Lots of Food in One Place

By E C |

My husband and I are foodies when we travel. We feel that tasting your way through the city is the best way to get to know the place. On a recent trip to visit friends in the city, we headed to the Off the Grid in Fort Mason. I highly recommend it. Lots of diverse foods unique to SF or Cali. Get there early to get a seat. Dress warmly but know that if you are early enough, you can grab a place be a heater. Most trucks are cash based. Prices are affordable (5-12) per item depending on the truck. Alcohol prices are 8-10 dollars depending on the items. We took three children under 2. Perfect place to allow them to walk around. No one seemed to care. There were both couples and families. We spent around 1.5-2 hours there. You could pick up food and head to another attraction close by like Crissy Field or Palace of the Fine Arts.

So many options & a great atmosphere

By chetchetlin |

I love food, I love food trucks, I love public market type events. So I obviously loved this. I got a lobster roll from the Lobsta truck, a steamed pork bun from Chairman Bao and dumplings from happy dumpling. Oh and a corn cob from one of the Mexican trucks. Good lord it was all so delicious, I will dream of the lobster roll for the rest of my days. It was pretty chilly down near the water so bring a jacket, maybe even a blanket to drape over your legs if it's a particularly cold evening. The only downside is finding a spot to seat but that was so minor and once we found chairs it was forgotten. We got there at about 6.30 and seemed to just beat huge lines, by the time id eaten there were some pretty serious queues happening so go early if you want to avoid them.

Food truck picnic

By Dbnguy73 |

This Fort Mason venue is great - views of the bay, soft green grass and lots of space to spread out. There are a good few options from the food trucks - had the deep fried soft shell crabs po'boy and washed it down with a a Bloody Mary. Get there before 4pm before everyone starts packing up.

Great find

By Sarah L |

Found this by chance when walking down from Coit tower towards the Ferry building, it was before 12 but there were queues at each truck, enough to tell us it was worth the visit. Would definitely recommend and if possible try the Fort Mason Friday night for more choice.

Off the grid but connected

By Laurent606 |

Off the Grid is a great destination to (literally) chill out on a Friday night. The ambiance is very nice and it's fun to have so many food choices, all from food trucks serving food from all over the world. I don't know what you cannot get there. You can also enjoy drinks and music, so what's not to like?

Culinary adventure

By Lee S |

Our last light in San Francisco was at off the grid where we were able to savour some of the cities food offering - curries, steak sandwiches, dim sum and tacos to name a few! Well worth a visit for A relaxed and fun night!

A Must go to!!

By matt4jezus |

Wow!! Sensory overload! It smells so good here. I wanted something from each truck but only managed 3 trucks! All the food i had was great!

What a nice surprise...

By Michelle A |

The Presidio event was beautiful and fun. I immediately wanted to transport all of my friends family to the beautiful green lawn overlooking the bay... Great food.

This a food-truck meet-up like none I've seen before

By maybeyellow |

Go early, try the cocktails at Alembic, the burritos at Senor Sisig, enjoy the music, stay till they close. Do not miss this.

Amazing pop up with a walk to remember

By Sidlet |

We were lucky enough to have this pop up recommended to us on our last night in SF and walked down there from Fisherman's Wharf. Firstly, the walk along the bay with Alcatraz sitting in the darkness, rolling round its beam of light was spine tingling, and we might not have seen that if we hadn't been on our way to foodie heaven on steroids... This put our London pop ups to shame, I am sorry to say! Live music, bars, a little art stall and food, lots and lots of amazing food. Go earlier than nine pm though, pack up starts and ends at ten, they don't mess about these people, and you'll spend alot of time choosing and munching.!

Not open in "winter"

By MXF79 |

Went in February. Was pretty excited for it but is not open in winter. It was a shame as there were so many people out and about.

Bring your appetite

By ddc15 |

This was my first food truck experience. This was a blast over 40 food trucks serving quality food. Music, bars, bbq to desert.

Fabulous food, views and atmosphere!!

By JenniferParker3 |

What a find! It's picnic in the park with wine!! Literally sit on the grass eating amazing foods, drinking CA wine and look over the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. It was heaven!!

Fun and cool checking out all the different food venues

By Travel Photo Discovery |

Off the Grid at Fort Mason is definitely foodie truck heaven on the Fort Mason parking lot with a variety f different trucks to choose from and gorgeous views of the city from the Bayfront area.

Another Great Surprise for a Tourist

By CaptainSPI |

Just happened to be here on a Friday and our friends recommended this for dinner. I enjoy the Food Truck experience and this was definitely the place! Now it is crowded so be patient. Walk around (with a drink) and take in all the possibilities. Sample something new and more exotic. I went to a French food truck, France Delices, and had some sausage with all the trimmings. Very good. The total bill can add up especially if you take my advice and munch around. Heard some music also which added to the experience. It you schedule fits, try it out.

Fun Food Truck Festival

By ThadzEngaling |

It's a great day to end a Friday day trip to San Francisco with lot's of international cuisines to choose from. I was glad to see a few Filipino-inspired food trucks here.

Surrounded by yum!

By tommykaps |

My husband and I watch all the food shows on tv, which seem to have a theme of food trucks lately. We alway say we want to go to one, but there aren't any in our surrounding areas. Well...once we made it to Off The Grid we were in our glory! We went on a Thursday afternoon so there were only 5 trucks...on a Thursday or Friday night there's up to 30 of them in 1 spot! It was hard enough to choose between the 5. Things moved quickly, food was very tasty, and people running the truck were very pleasant. Only downfall would be that we needed to cross the street to buy a bottle of water from the dollarstore. The truck we bought food from only offered soda or sweet tea. Not a big deal and made it even more of an adventure. Off The Grid - What a great idea! :) Go try it out!

Something fun!

By BeardiesRus |

The Friday night Off the Grid food truck event is a mix of locals and tourists all having fun. Food trucks, music and libations. Kids , thirty somethings, grayhairs. All enjoying. Loved the east coast lobster rolls filled with claw meat from the Lobsta Truck. Would definitely come back again.

Awesome

By RaquelSarah |

Beautiful, exquisite, and I really enjoyed myself there. Make sure to take your camera. Its a very nice place.

One of the best food experiences I've ever had!

By Medicdaisy |

Fab atmosphere, too many food trucks to chose from and YUMMY food!! Go with lots of people, join lots of the queues and try lots of things! The Korean truck, the cupcakes and the chocolate taco place were especially amazing.

Great find

By 92DM |

The location is a little tucked away if you're not from the area, but worth the hunt. The prices were reasonable and the vendors were very friendly. Make sure you have both hands free so you can eat and walk, chairs were hard to come by and there are very few picnic tables. My favorites were the empanadas from El Sur (fantastic), the chicken bacon sandwich from Bacon Bacon, and the creme brûlée with the donut holes from The Creme Brûlée Cart was a nice dessert. I will definitely eat here again when we come back to the area.

Friday Night Fun

By Jeffery L |

I've been a couple times and each experience was different. There's an inverse relationship between the pleasantness of the weather and how crowded it is so our favorite experience was when it was a little chilly in October as there were practically no lines and we got our food in less than 5 minutes. Always get buns from The Chairman, whatever is new from Frozen Kuhsterd and then try some new items. It can be hit and miss but we've found some really great items by following our nose and eyes such as the crackly roast pork belly at a Filipino place (sorry, can't remember the name).

Great Foody Experience

By KAP |

Really a fun experience, not only for the many different unique food trucks, but also for people-watching.

This was needed after lock down

By Roberto A |

This place has everything, good food, good music and sometimes some shows. Love to try a different spot every time and finish with a frozen custard

Great food and music

By katjacmom |

We came here with family and friends (4 young kids). There were a lot of food trucks (20-30??) with different varieties of food. There were live music. It's next to the water so dress warmer than you plan.

Amazing food!!

By YeriNZ |

A great casual Friday night out in San Francisco. Amazing food, music and vibe by the waterfront. We loved it! 5 out of 5 from us :-)

OTG is the best Friday evening event

By Angela S |

So much fun, great selection of food, and a beautiful view? You can’t beat it. I especially love Marleys treats so was glad to see them.

OffTheGridSF.com - Belmont on Monday nights - Fun, Friendly Dinner Adventure

By TXWeekender_12 |

What a fun adventure! Monday nights Off the Grid is in Belmont on Monday nights from 5-9pm in the Caltrain parking lot on El Camino Real and Ralston Ave. Enjoyed making my dinner selection from about 7-9 different trucks and a lovely creme brûlée from a dessert truck! Sat outdoors in the folding chairs nicely provided, and enjoyed live music, casual conversations with other "diners" and enjoyed this adventure. I'm in town for work and staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Belmont, and this was a quick 1/4 - 1/2 mile walk straight down the street. Walking alone I felt safe and the street was fairly well lit.

Unique experience, atmosphere and great tasting food

By Tequila007 |

Friday evening at Fort Mason parking, around 20 of food trucks, some stands, food from all around the world, you can spend really great time, as atmosphere is fantastic, some beer stands, benches or simply sitting on the grass overlooking Golden bridge.

Lively and a lot of fun

By jellie0303 |

We really enjoyed zooming around the trucks and buying lots of different bits. The atmosphere is very amiable. Let's be clear it all adds up so don't expect a cheap night. But it's fun

Off the grid

By Josh W |

Super fun. 20 or do food trucks, beer, wine, cocktails, a band, what's more to want? Down by the water in the marina district, so you can see that down there as well. Much more fun then just eating at a restaurant.

Fun food truck event, great choices, music, lively

By drfiler |

We had a large group, over 40, and everyone found something they enjoyed with a large array of options. This is a very casual outdoor food truck event. I had Korean BBQ and Vietnamese spring rolls, others loved the sushi, regular BBQ and burritos. It was rainy and windy but there was still a nice atmosphere, good turnout and all age groups including strollers found enjoyment. The music was a nice added feature. I really enjoyed the evening. We rented the fire hall and congregated there to eat after we used prepaid tokens to buy food. It worked well and hit the spot after a full work day.

Off the Grid - at The Yard @ Mission Rock

By Aaron P |

The 3 food trucks at The Yard were delicious! In case you don't know where The Yard is, it is next to AT&T Park. It is a small pop up of food trucks, and stores, made from shipping containers. The food out of these trucks is great. Which is typical of food trucks. I had a fried chicken wrap and it was delicious. The atmosphere is a cool vibe. Sitting amoungst shipping containers, converted into restaurants and stores, with the ballpark in the background. It is a great place to unwind in the San Francisco sun.

You have to go here

By see_ski_eat_live |

You can't fail to love the vibe of street food with a great variety and atmosphere! I dream about the Señor sisig burrito & the crime brûlée man

Great place for variety, good beer, and dogs!

By traveller2332 |

Very nice outdoor seating area with great beer garden and pretty amazing selection from Anchor (beers I hadn't seen before). Lots of different types of food to choose from. Low-key vibe. Dog friendly!! A great place to grab a bite and a brew.

Amazing food trucks

By Abbe J |

Thank you to the cashier at Mama's for recommending this to us. There were over 30 food trucks which served excellent and varied choices. There was live music and it felt like a big foodie party. Highly recommend.

Should be called "Off the Planet!"

By AN4RCHY |

If your in San Francisco you have to check this place out! Food vans and street food galore. Incredible creations of mashed food from all over the world. We had Mac n Cheese spring rolls, creme brûlée, dumplings, Trinidad tacos, Korean Japanese fused meat on rice cakes, chicken tikka masala roti burritos, empanadas and local beers to wash them all down. Add some live music, huge crowds of people having food orgasms and warm weather. I think if there is a heaven this place would be it! You gotta eat here, go with an empty stomach, try everything, stuff yourself full and you won't be disappointed!

Great place to meet and taste some of the Californian way

By Lucie B |

I discovered this place with Tripadvisor. And it's really fun. At least twenty different street food trucks are parked around the Square and they all offer different food or drinks, all with a little something special. For example, I had an Indian wrap - vegetable curry, basmati rice, in a nan bread. You don't go there if you want some fancy food, but if you want to eat outside, meet people of all ages, have a drink with or without alcohol, listen to some upbeat music, this is the place. And the food is also quite good.

Great location, food, vibe

By Gloria D |

Stopped by here in late September when it was a bit cool, but they had heat lamps going. I got the mulled wine (long wait and a bit pricey, but a great handwarmer) and deconstructed samosa from Curry Up Now, which was delicious and fast. It was a little hard to get seating and you had to be pretty quick about sniping tables. Live music and photo bus was a plus.

Amazing Food and Atmosphere

By Bryan J |

Loved the food, drink and atmosphere of this "place". So many food options and delicious beer. The creme brûlée tent was amazing and the ice cream taco truck was fantastic.

Food Truck Round Up

By Polaroids & Drinkin Stories |

This is a cool gathering of food trucks that happens Friday nights. I stumbled upon it by accident when I saw a sign advertising it that night. I like food trucks, who doesn't? So I checked it out. The atmosphere reminds me of a block party. The trucks are all circling a decent-sized area in Fort Mason. Some chairs scattered round, bands playing music. Nice vibes. Now about the food. Well there were clearly a few favorites among the locals, because those lines were loooong. I was pretty hungry and didn't feel like waiting so I opted for a few other places that had essentially no lines. I now know why that is. It's not that the food was bad it just wasn't anything special and the prices were pretty high for what I was getting. I can't remember the name of the places but I tried some tacos from one truck, tamales from another, some BBQ sliders from another... and nothing was awesome. Very very average. I mean it wasn't a shock considering the difference in customers waiting. But it's definitely a fun place to check out and hang for a bit of local flavor.

OTG at Fort Mason

By Tia L |

Love going to off the grid at fort mason! Fun activity to do with any group of people and a wide selection of food and drinks! My only qualm is that the beer and wine lines can be very long but I think this has died down since OTG began originally.

Food Truck Experience

By food_reviewer45 |

An interesting experience. In Friday evenings, 20 food trucks gather in the parking lot. TWENTY. Plus, there was a booth selling beer and cocktail (only one of each). Another had wine. A stage had a DJ. We each chose a truck for supper. I had pork with more pork sandwich - generous portion, tasty and messy. My wife had Mexican - very good she said. We got there early and got seats. There were couples and families who were settling in for the evening, occupying the limited seating. Restrooms available in the commercial buildings

Great food

By Michael E |

Awesome experience. Several food trucks with all types of food. We hit the Bacon bacon truck and it was absolutley delicious. Not a lot of seats available to sit around and chat while you eat but it is clean and the grid staff are friendly. Hunt it down and give it a shot!!!!!!!

A great place to start the evening

By canman66 |

This Friday night food truck fest was our first stop after arriving in town. We loved it! Had amazing lobster and crab rolls. Excellent craft beer. Terrific donuts. And a great atmosphere all throughout the event. If you're looking for an informal meal or just a place to grab a bite before heading out on the town, this is a great option - and just a 15 minute walk from Fisherman's Wharf.

Food Trucks, Music, Libations, and Fort Mason—Happy Friday!

By medortch |

If you're local and looking to kick off your weekend, or to bring visitors to a quintessential San Francisco event and venue, Off the Grid at Fort Mason should be your destination of choice. Food trucks, a full bar, beer, wine, sangria, a DJ early and a live band later, with a full stage and seating. Also, food trucks. The fun starts at 5 p.m. and runs through 10 p.m., so it can start your Friday evening or your entire weekend. Bring your hunger, thirst, and desire for great food, drink, and entertainment in a great outdoor venue. You will definitely leave satisfied!

If you are nearby on a Friday just go, one of the highlights of any foodie's trip to San Francisco

By Adam_in_the_UK |

Foodie heaven. does not matter if you are by yourself or with friends, there is always a great atmosphere, amazing choice, good music and friends to be made. If you are easily put off by the concepts of street food, or eating from food trucks, do not be. As someone who has eaten everywhere around the globe, from 3* Michelin restaurants in London and PAris to the markets of Thailand I can honestly say this will be a great experience and is more like the most upmarket food court imaginable than anything you may preconceive. If your bucket list runs to more than 500 things to do, this should definitely be one of the items to tick.

Great variety

By Snowy M |

We had seen the Friday night food trucks at Off the Grid mentioned in our guidebook and decided to go on our last night in SF, as we'd already been to La Taqueria for lunch and Bi-Rite Creamery for an ice-cream in the afternoon and weren't up to a full meal. We took the bus (30, I think) which dropped us off about 5 mins walk away. We weren't quite sure where we were going but followed everyone else and soon found it. The entrance is nr the harbour in a car park off the main road. There is a nice view of the Bay and the Bridge from the Harbour. We did a lap before choosing and there was excellent variety with bars and a savoury and sweet food selection from paella to Peruvian, sliders to seafood. In the end we settled for a couple of beers, some BBQ meat with beans & slaw (The BoneYard) and a lobster roll (Lobsta Truck), topped off with a blueberry Graham cracker Creme brûlée (Creme Brulee Cart) which I balanced on the bus home and gorged on in bed. All yummy. There aren't many seating/perching options but we found a spot and plenty of people were sitting on the kerb or taking their food with them into the park. Good food, not too expensively priced (around $40 for 2) and made for a fun evening. Worth a trip.

Loved it!

By A-Petit-foodie |

This is a great event to try different things in one same spot. I tried some empanadas from Sabores del Sur that were really good! My husband tried some pork belly at another truck I can't remember and then I couldn't resist to try some creme-broulle from another one. There was a lot of people, loved the fact they would even take their dogs, it was full of children and everything seemed to work just fine.

BACON BACON!!

By Brayball |

We went to the Ft. Mason Food Park based on a recommendation from the hotel concierge. This was a blast - casual food in a very casual outdoor setting. We ate at the Bacon Bacon truck, Pierogie truck, ChopStix truck, cupcake truck and ice cream taco stand. It was fun to see what everyone else was eating too. My only complaint is that the seating is limited. Wish they had picnic tables.

The BEST find!

By CAL |

We were a group of 4 and stumbled upon this night time festival by chance. The vibe was incredible, with awesome live music from a great soul band, delicious craft beers and a delicious selection of food trucks! Such a great way to experience the 'real' San Fran.

This is the place to be Friday night

By Candy M |

This was a great experience. 25+ food trucks parked in a circle. In the center is you. Go from truck to truck and find what you want to eat. The lines move quickly, the prices are mostly reasonable for the area. There are different cultural foods represented and everything I tasted was great. It is loud, there is a DJ in the center. Beer and wine is also available. If your in San Francisco on a Friday, make room in your plans to go to Off the Grid.

Excellent!

By Inspiredbygippsland |

We found 'Off the Grid' by chance after our bike tour guide told us about it. It was fantastic. So many food vans offering so many delicious choices! We sampled a range of items and all were superb. I don't think you can go wrong. Great atmosphere too.

Food truck extravaganza

By Robin G |

While visiting SF we found the Off the grid at Fort Mason Center by accident and were pleasantly surprised. We had tickets to attend a Batz improve show which happened to also be at the Fort Mason Center on a Friday night and discovered the Off the grid food truck happening. It's a gathering of some 30+ food trucks that have some of the best food to be found. Try the Lobsta Roll or the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich. They serve alcohol and also have live music. It's a great local happening and a lot of fun. They have gatherings all around the city so Google Off the grid to view their schedule and locations. You won't be disappointed should you decide to go.

Brilliant!

By Alison T |

After 20 hours of travelling & 8 hours behind our actual body clocks, we showered & grabbed a taxi to Off the Grid. What a brilliant introduction to SF!! Music, people watching, any food truck you can think of, good drinks...... We loved it! Opted for beef brisket from a BBQ truck, loved it! Perfect start to our holiday, thank you!!

Cool place!

By Paul M |

Amazing atmosphere, street food, live music, ale and cocktails! What more do you need, also a massive hipster hangout so bring a beard!

fun outdoor food truck meal

By sugarlandmom |

our cousins recommended this for our group of 8 adults and 6 kids (4-18) on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Bring a blanket and prepare to sample everything from Southern to Indian to Latin American...and save room for dessert-crepes, ice cream, donuts, etc. Wow! Kids loved trying new foods. Favorites were empanadas, grilled cheese, and Vietnamese noodles plus the chocolate crème brulee. We'll definitely come again.

Keep on truckin'

By Lou P |

Following our San Francisco Comprehensive Shuttle Tour to Muir Woods, our kind driver, Robert, dropped us off at Ft. Mason so that we could enjoy dining outside at the Off the Grid Friday Night Food Truck Party. It was a lovely evening and we enjoyed scouting out what drinks and food we would partake in that evening. It was hard to choose but we ended up with a beer from the Magnolia Brewery Beer Bar, Korean Bob Cha bbq, and giant donuts from Johnny Doughnuts. It was easy to pay with credit cards, short lines for food and drink and lots of fun. A few more places to eat, would have been appreciated for those of us from out of town and unable to bring something to sit on, but hey, it was fun anyway. Wish Kansas City was on your truck routes! This was a perfect way to dine before attending a BATS performance.

Awesome overall experience and damned good food to boot!

By caddingtonk |

I found this gathering when I was looking into my trip to San Francisco and was super excited by just the idea itself. Upon finding it, it was everything I could have wanted it to be. Suuuuuper delicious foods of all kinds - yes a little on the expensive side - but I never for a moment assumed a gourmet food truck would be cheap. Its certainly worth it, what with the exchange of dollars for deliciousness. The live music and positive atmosphere also goes a long way towards making it a must see. I would highly recommend this - especially for a foodie! I even bought a hoodie, its very comfy.

A sea of people...

By Larry S |

1) There are so many different food trucks here that's it's amazing (deserts, meats, booze, you name it!) 2) The weather has been great in San Francisco lately, so people/families/dogs are running amok. Fort Mason and Presidio is always nice. 3) Why a 3 star? Too (and I need to emphasize too many...) people! Waiting 15 minutes just to order, than waiting 15 minutes for food...well I could have went to a restaurant and paid a bit more to have a place to sit!

Lots of Food to choose from

If you want to try a variety of foods, this is the place to be. There are many food trucks that are here. I was here on a Friday evening with my husband. We had a wonderful time along with a beautiful sunset facing Golden Gate Bridge. Take the time to walk around and enjoy the scenery.

Easy walk from fisherman's wharf. Great fun!

If you are a 'foodie' ... certainly you've heard about the great food truck craze that has been popular lately. San Francisco is one of the food truck capitals of the country ... and many of the best ones gather every Friday night in the Fort Mason Center (which is a short walk up the hill next to the Ghiardelli chocolate plaza at Fisherman's Wharf). Mostly locals go here because it really isn't advertised to tourists who don't know where to look. It can get crowded ... and at a peak time, the lines can get insanely long. To wait 30 minutes for a burrito or a taco is way beyond the merit of the food. However, if you pick the right time and go early before the crowds get there you will only wait a couple minutes vs. 45 minutes or more. And, the food will be fresher. Check the hours on their facebook page but I believe it goes from around 4 p.m. until 8 or 9 p.m. You have so many food trucks and street food tents to choose from! The most popular seem to be Senior Sisq ... which makes a fusion phillipeno mexican sort of taco. It is pretty tasty and you can get larger entrees which cost about $8 or they make a small taco you can try for $3 if you are there to sample. There is also The Chairman who's Korean style steamed buns are probably among the most popular (which means the biggest lines). Again, for $7-$8 you can get a larger entree or $3 will buy you a small bun to sample with pork or beef or vegetarian. Koja Kitchen is also a great choice which offers freshly made meats such as cola simmered short rib served on a 'bun' made of sticky rice cakes. This was one of my favorite $3 bites at Off the Grid. There is everything from organic freshly made hamburger ... to Mexican tacos or tamales ... Hawaiian Tacos from the taco guys ... spare ribs ... Equadorian street food ... Phillipeno and Vietnamese Street food ... even Jewish food. The only stand I would skip if I had it to do again is the Creme Brule stand. For $5 it was bland and watery. I don't think you can do speed made creme brule ... although it does seem to be pretty popular, so don't let my opinion keep you away. The beers and wines are off the hook expensive ... $7 - $10 for beer and $10 - $15 for mixed drinks and wines. Hit Capurros or McCormick and Kulotos near Ghiradelli Plaza for happy hour first ... otherwise you'll be buying a lot of expensive craft beers and cocktails. Its great to go with a group where you can try different things from each other's order. Everyone is very friendly and used to people stopping them and asking, 'where did you get that?' I usually do a lap and see what is being served and what things people are eating that look good before ordering. Because I am on business in SF often by myself ... I usually go for the inexpensive things to taste multiples of. After 3-4 stations, I am usually stuffed. But it makes me look forward to coming back to try other foods. This is a really good time and you will leave full. Don't expect cheap street foods though ... the average person will probably spend $10 minimum ... more like $20. Its not cheap, but its good ... its fresh ... and its quite a lively hipster environement with a dj and music. Check it out, rub shoulders with the hip locals and you'll go back anytime you are in the area.

Best food, beer and music!

By CAL |

This was such a great find! Away from the hectic city but full of everything that is great about San Fran; great food, craft beer and live music. The deep south food truck is soooo good! We went on a Friday night which had such a great 'start to the weekend' vibe.

Could have been a better experience - 3 out of 5 Rating

After visiting the “Painted Ladies”, we drove to the Off the Grid Fort Mason site on this Friday night. There were 30+ food stations – a combination of food trucks and stalls. By the time we got there, it was well after 7:30 PM and going from dusk into darkness. It was kind of fun going to each food stall to see what each outlet had to offer because there were so many different ethnic and fusion foods in one location. Given the concentration of food outlets, and the number of people, it can be a bit chaotic; crowded even when we arrived. There were line-ups at the more popular outlets but they appeared to move fast. I went to the Koja Kitchen (popular truck) and may have waited at least 15-20 minutes to order and another 10+ minutes to get my order. Seating for the customers is on the inside surrounded by the food outlets / trucks. There are some spots with portable natural gas heaters for those cold San Francisco nights. The seating itself is composed of basically plastic patio type chairs and some high bar / pub tables. Needless to say if you arrive during the busy time, you will have difficulty finding a place to sit down. In our case, it was well past 8:00 PM, probably closer to 9:00 before we were able to find seats (after browsing and ordering). Since there are many food stalls, you have many choices including Philippino fusion, Korean fusion, Mexican, Nepalese and American BBQ to name a few; multiply that by each stall’s menu items and you have a very large amount of options. For those experienced “foodies” out there, the comments below regarding “how to eat” are probably not new revelations: • The trick is to “nibble” on 2, 3 or more options from the different food stalls so you can have a variety. • On the first go around scout out the different cuisines available and decide on what you want. • Have your party split up and stand in line at each food station to order to save time. Obviously if there are more people you can stand in line at more locations. The downside possibly is trying to find each other and a place to sit. Also, the food may get cold because you have all your food at once. • Another choice is to line-up for “round 2” after you have finished your first round. Our party of 5 had food from the following food stalls or ethnic foods: • Senor Sisig – Mexican Phillipino fusion • Koja Kitchen – Japanese Korean fusion • Happy Dumplings - Asian • Bini’s Kitchen - Nepalese food • Flauta / taquitos It was a great experience as I have never seen so many food stalls/trucks in one location. I would have rated the experience higher if there were proper seating facilities and it wasn’t as cold. The temperature was probably in the high 40s, low 50s Fahrenheit (5-10 Celsius). My spouse was complaining how could it was and that sort of put a damper on the eating experience. In addition, the lighting could use an upgrade as it was a little on the dark side but you could still see what you were eating. In addition, more tables would have been appreciated. As such, I have rated the overall experience at 3 out of 5 – average. Notes and Tips: • There was an “Off the Grid” information kiosk. Ask the employee what are the best or most popular food stations. Most of the time you can just tell by the long line-ups. Also, just ask the people eating. • Limited beer and wine options • Vegetarian options at some food stalls • Off the Grid souvenir clothing for sale • Some outlets accept credit cards • There was also a small stage that had live musical entertainment. • When I think food truck, I think good food fast at a cheap reasonable price. Some places in my opinion were a little on the expensive side. • I found “Off the Grid” basically surfing the web looking for places to eat. In fact that is how I found some of the eateries – Mel’s Drive In & Benjarong Thai Cuisine both on Lombard Street. See my reviews. Reviews of Home Plate and Bay Watch restaurants (also on Lombard St.) to follow. • If you are driving, there is limited parking by the marina. Please read all signs posted and marked roadways (written in each stall). You will probably have to walk at least ¼ - 1/3 mile (.4 - .5 kilometre) from the parking to the food site. • We could have walked from our accommodations – Coventry Motor Inn on Lombard Street to Fort Mason as it is only .6 miles (1 kilometre) away. • From the Boudin Bakery & Restaurant complex at Fisherman’s Wharf, it is approximately 1.6 miles (2.6 kilometres). You can walk it or take the municipal bus system close by. • Check the website for locations as it is different for each day of the week. • Our day 2 itinerary for San Francisco (besides Off the Grid) included ½ day at Alcatraz Island, walking around Pier 39 including sea lions, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Painted Ladies. See reviews already posted. • On day 3 we had breakfast at Home Plate Restaurant and then headed off to the Napa Valley. See reviews of the Home Plate Restaurant and other Napa Valley attractions and restaurants to follow.

Off the wall dining

By richardthefossil |

A must try to experience SF at ground level, this weird and wonderful Place ( our visit was July 4th weekend), is a must try experience, the appearance is at first a wagon twin affair of burger vans, like some show ground food court and I suppose essentially that's exactly what it is, however where can you taste clam chowder to Thai curry, baked pot's to Lobster, Chinese BBQ to Himalayan cuisine in one sell environment with trendy music, hot red wine and street alcohol in the U.S., nowhere else I think, SF's relaxed Terence to all enables this congregation of folks all having a joyous occasion, highly recommended for an off the wall experience, walk there from downtown to bud an appetite, well worth the effort.

Something for everyone!

By Darrian B |

I stumbled upon Off the Grid during a stroll with my husband. It was great! They had all kinds of food, so there was something for everyone. I thought it was cool that they had a donut truck when we went. There was live music and food trucks everywhere. It was a lot of fun!

Great way to get a taste of San Francisco

By kyfusion |

The hardest part of eating at an off the grid gathering is picking what to eat. With over 20 food venders it is half the fun to walk around and look at all the menus. It was well put together easy to park and find. Great food at great prices.

Fun time for locals and tourists alike

By lucycan |

My wife and I stumbled upon this a few Friday's ago. Its a gathering of about 20 food trucks. Great crowd of what appeared to be mostly locals. Wide variety of food and drink (including beers) made for a great tasting experience. There seemed to be plenty of seating for just about everyone.I highly recommend it.

Wow

By Salbolal |

So tasty. So fun. Loved the live music. Loved being able to have a little of this, a little of that. All good.

A MUST!

By Sara D |

If you're ever visiting SF, be sure to check out Off the Grid at Fort Mason on Friday night. I had some of the best food I have eaten in SF at the food trucks. Such a wide variety of foods and all for decent prices. There's also free entertainment, such as bands performing. It's a great place to go on a date or hang out with friends. I wouldn't recommend bringing children, it's more of a place for 21+.

The best way to wrap up your work week

By Dane Turner |

OTG is a staple for anyone in the Marina and just anyone that lives in San Francisco. The food, music, drinks and vibe is exactly what you need to decompress from the work week and kick off an awesome weekend. So glad it's back and bumpin'!!

Off the Grid-Upper Haight location

By karen r |

Thursday nights at OTG are my 1st stop when visiting family in San Fran, there are various locations around the city all week, you can find their schedule online but this is our meeting place for dinner and I always get there on a Thurs so I can do this. Its so much fun, like a block party. The food is fantastic and the prices are so reasonable. My recommendation is "The Chairman" food truck, he is the master of the bun!!!! The last time I went I had the cola braised pork on a baked bun and pork belly on a steamed bun. I stuck with the chairman, a few others wandered from truck to truck and while everything is really really good, all agreed the chairman was the best. Their chef Hiroo Nagahara is formerly the exec chef of Charlie Trotter in Vegas if this gives you any idea of the quality of the food. As for the atmosphere its like a block party all kinds of people young, older, families etc. They play live music and have chairs there are also benches behind the trucks at the Upper Haight location. It can get cold as the sun goes down so bring a jacket and they have a bonfire if necessary. Its just so much fun with really great food, I highly recommend it.

Love Off the Grid

It is a famer's market meets historic park meets waterfront meets art venue! Love this and cant believe it is not more packed in SF.

Unique visitor experience

By alohatripper |

May 22 We went to our grandnephew's first birthday party, held at "Picnic at the Presidio" on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Never had been to one ever, I had to ask directions to the location. I found a parking space but assumed that Sundays meant free parking, but later when I returned I discovered otherwise from reading the signs. Luckily, the meter maids were busy elsewhere during the 2H. The park is not huge, but with so many patrons, many with tents or canopies, it can be challenging. Actually, the parents found us rather than we finding them. Though they brought food, the main attraction is to visit the dozens of food trucks that line part of the perimeter. We tried the famous empanada food truck. It was quite delicious and reasonable in price. Had I been more hungry, I certainly would have tried others although the popular ones had long lines.

Festive and delicious eats in a great location

By dreamingofrain |

Food truck heaven right next to BATS Improv. Eat amazing food + see great improv = best Friday night in SF.

Great, but .....

By MoragBennett |

Just got back from OTG fort mason Friday night session, atmosphere very relaxed, food amazingly good for prices and we got there quite late 9pm, but all buzzing and all stalls still serving. Live band playing tin the middle of the trucks, people dancing, and heater provided in the 'lounge' well received. Our problem was we hadn't thought through getting back to the hotel, so bit of a dark lonely walk was off putting until we reached the city lights again, should have ordered a taxi, or at least taken a taxi number with us.

A Must-See in SF!

By Laura J |

Not a lot of people visiting San Francisco know about Off the Grid, but it's a must see during your trip! They have events every day of the week, but their biggest event is Friday night at Fort Mason. There are over 30 street food vendors offering a huge selection of delicious and gourmet food. This isn't your average chip truck! There's all sorts of food, from creme brule to tacos to Korean BBQ. The food is very reasonably priced, about $6-7 for a small portion, which allows you to walk around and sample different carts. On Fridays they also have a bar tent and a live band playing. However there did not appear to be public bathrooms anywhere close by. There are tons of chairs, but no tables so it can get a little messy. But it's a great atmosphere, I attended three different times during my month in California because I enjoyed it so much.

Really hip - something for all.

By Secretagentshopper |

Free entrance. Live music. A global taste sensation. Indian, Nepalese, Chinese, Mexican, French. The atmosphere is great and you can save a fortune compared to dining out.

Friday Night Food Truck Fun!

By 16Bonnie |

Off the Grid was such a fun event! We went to one of the early events at the beginning of the season (it is not open year-round, open Mar-Oct) and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It has so many food options to choose from! The food trucks were amazing--wine and beer, tasty food options, DJ and live music round out a great night. This was a great place to start our night.

A Little Dissapointing...

By Tania J |

After doing a ton of "food" research before coming to San Francisco, my sons & I were really excited to check out the "Off the Grid" Food trucks. After a long day of sight seeing at Golden Gate Bridge, we took the bus to Fort Mason to have dinner. It was around 6pm & crazy packed, (which I guess is great for the vendors). The lines were realy long & there was no where to sit to eat. The public restrooms were filthy and the ATM machine was out of service. The only positive thing I can say is the food we did try was really good. My sons loved their corn dogs & loaded tater tots. And Peter's kettle corn was to die for!! But overall, it was not worth going out of our way for.

Over 30 different food truck options

By ConsciousTravelers |

Food Trucks are not uncommon. Most cities have food truck rallies. This is the biggest and best I have ever been too. Well organized and features lots of top food trucks from all around California. The setup is a large circle of food trucks facing the middle of what looks like a music festival. Great atmosphere and a DJ plays hits for young and old of any generation. Food was superb, the festival was fun and plenty of seats or areas to eat. Food prices were very reasonable. This free event is worth attending.

Really good to have some different food. Everything we tried was yummy. Fantastic live music to sit and listen to. Only down side was the price, especially of cocktails!

You can find anything here for high end food trucks and carts

By David M |

A really fun venue for get-togethers with friends. It's hard to review every vendor there, but so many have a lot to offer for a social event or if you just want to get away and grab a few bites, in a casual environment. Best time to go is in the summertime when there's lots of light during the day, but that is the coldest season so bring plenty of warm clothes. At the high season it may be challenging to find seats so be prepared to stand while you eat. Some of the regular vendors that are our favorites are the pork buns at the chairman, the French sandwich truck Francis Delices, and the Korean chicken and waffles. We have still yet to find a really good dessert food truck, as the crème brûlée truck can be a little bit over-the-top sometimes but maybe that's her cup of tea. Magnolia brewing does a decent job at the fermented, Adult beverages, and there usually is some sort of wine vendor as well. Come here hungry, or with a large group so you can all have a bite of everything to share.

Food trucks for every taste and live music

By tripletoes |

We hit this on a warm September night. Great band, fun atmosphere. Yummy food. Certainly worth it. Ate at the Bacon truck, Nepalese booth and had spiced wine. All were great.

If you enjoy food trucks, you'll love this event

By AldebaranFlorida |

A family member tipped us off to this gathering of food vendors on a Friday night. This is like food truck heaven, with many diverse offerings. The crowd of customers were loving it. The only problem is that there are too many vendors to try them all. But, everything we sampled was delicious. We'll be back on our next trip to San Francisco.

2014 Off The Grid keeps getting better!

By Joan A |

Went both opening night and last Friday too ... larger, even better - lots of people but plenty of room. Trucks and Tents spread out more .... GREAT WINE BAR - WONDERFUL FOOD! Music, games and surrounded by the Bay .... It was EXCELLENT! Had so much fun. :)

International Smorgasbord

By girl4yoga |

We were excited to hit Off The Grid for dinner before a show on a Friday night. It gave us a chance to sample a variety of different cultural cuisine (Indian, Nepalese, Mexican, Korean, etc) all in one place! There were four of us so we all got different things from $5-10 a piece and shared so that we could try a little of everything. There was also a great beer selection, two full service bars and a sangria/wine option. The entertainment and people watching were excellent as well. You could tell it was a hot spot for locals as well as out of towners. Most vendors take credit card but there's an ATM available as well. Seating includes a huge open area with folding chairs that are first come first served as well as a few standing tables. Great time!

Fun way to try various foods

Wonderful night walking around trying new eats. Some what challenging to find a place to sit down to eat your food, but the experience is absolutely wonderful! With a try.

A must do on a Friday evening

By kakalondon |

I make it a point to go to off the grid every time I am in san Francisco. The pork belly burgers - banh baby banhs - in particular are my favourite. And the best bit is that there is rarely a queue for these guys. Other must haves are - Maui fish tacos - Chairman baos buns - Creme brulee Overall lovely vibe with nice music. Take a jacket as it can get quite chilly...

Fun activity to get a feel of local vibes

By Stephanie L |

Fun event if you want to get a sense of the locals and the local vibe. This is a weekly Friday night food party and there are over 20 food vendors, a fully equipped bar (cocktails, beers), and live music, There were also tables and heat lamps (so it was great despite the chilly weather). As in any food festival there are line ups so I suggest a little snack before you head out! Patience is key to trying the best stuff out there!

Community gathering with a festival feeling and delicious, affordable eats

By CaliFornia94110 |

I originally stumbled upon Off the Grid while attending a play and was just blown away by the lively band music, food trucks (~$10-$15) and feel good of people during the early evening. The City has had some unusually warm (for SF) weather the last couple of years, so being outside next to the Bay has been lovely. Head to the parking lots along the Marina Green lawn, west of the docks and you can usually find free parking. Flush toilets inside the building of the art store. Off the Grid is the perfect pairing before or after attending an amazing arts and culture happening at Fort Mason.

Food truck frenzy

By Toro9 |

Great selection of food trucks all in one spot. Nice upbeat music with dj. Was packed with people and restrooms are a walk away in building B. Also limited seating so be ready to eat standing. Overall a fun activity for a Friday night.

Picnic At the Presidio

By Kunal K |

We went here on the fist day of the Picnic. Absolutely loved the setting. Lot of cabanas and fire place. Live band playing, Food trucks parked all over. It was a bright Thursday evening, but very cold weather. Better to get your own blanket and grab a place near the fire place. There was a long queue at all the food trucks. We actually stood in line for two hours just to get burgers. But it was worth the wait. Everyone around was having fun. It will take place every alternate Thursday. I am planning to visit again with more preparation. In fact not a bad idea to get your own drinks and food and sit in the park. If you love dogs, this is your place because lot of people come here with dogs and they too have a lot of fun. The trucks do accept credit card but good to have cash. Ample parking space around. Reach early to grab a good spot

Large variety of cuisines, lively atmosphere, nice band, great drinks

By Saibal S |

What not to like when you can have a dinner covering multiple cuisines - Pork Buns, Garlic Noodles, Fried soft shelled crabs, BBQ ribs, Kabobs, Wood fired Pizza, Empanadas, Ice cream - about 30 food vendors! This happens every Friday evening - April to October and it can get chilly in San Francisco. Come with a sweater or a jacket. They have space heaters and provide chairs and tables, but they are never enough for everyone. Good beer selection. Decent wine and cocktail selection as well.

Food Truck Heaven

By Barbara C |

I had my doubts? Food Trucks? Wow I wish I lived near here. Every kind of food and beverage. I even tried a Lobster Roll. Being from New England I tried it to see how good it was...I wanted a second one. If I had closed my eyes, I could have thought I was in Maine. Only on Friday nights and get there early. Doughnuts were to die for too.

Love the food

By molinaboling |

This place is crazy cool! If you feel like trying something new and yummy go here. Everyone is super nice and we all habe something in common WE LOVE TO EAT ;)

Lots of Food Truck Options

By nessren13 |

This was a fun little find while visiting San Francisco. So many food truck options to choose from! Lines were quite long and we waited over 30 minutes in line for a pizza. Part of the issue may have been that we visited during Fleet Week so there were probably bigger crowds than usual. Lots of grass area for picnicking. After we finished eating we walked from here to the bridge for an amazing view of the city.

incredible variety and quality but the usual looooong San Fran lines

By Nolinice |

too many trucks to describe, I found myself disappointed by the lobster bisque (no meat high price) and in love with the huge dumplings (3 for 4$) and the excellent empanadas. the atmosphere is magical, the weather can be dump and chilly when the sun sets, dress accordingly.

Culinary delights in a truck

By JaFooley |

This food-truck market offers a wealth of culinary options that warrants multiple visits. As a tourist from London I found this place intriguing as it showed case what type of cuisine was currently trendy, the influences were mostly Asian inspired, in particular the Philippines. But the southwest/Mexican influence is strongly represented here too. A good cross section was on offer, as well as drinks and live music which rounded it all off nicely. I would return here for sure if back in San Fran.

Great way to feast an evening away

By sleepydisco |

On Friday nights the car park at the Fort Mason centre fills up with local food trucks, selling a range of tasty, great value street food. You could easily spend hours here, dipping in and around the variety of culinary options available, having a beer and listening to the live music. Try to go early, or you'll spend a lot of your time hopping from one queue to another.

Highlight of our Friday night!

Off the Grid at Fort Mason is a kick! Over thirty food trucks offering delicious and interesting food. We brought our own bottle of wine to share. Enjoyed the live music and did some dancing!!! So much fun!!

Foodie fun!

By Jennifer C |

Our last night in SF, and we found this event just a few blocks from our vacation rental apartment. Off we went and found a large circle of maybe 30 food truck and stall vendors. Nepalese, Vietnamese, Indian, French, and more--all with an American slant. We sampled a few and found everything interesting, hot, fresh, delicious. Lots to drink, good tunes and a happy vibe as people clustered around the outdoor heaters against the cool evening breeze. A great Friday evening in a truly great city.

Memorable casual experience with a great vibe

By art-scuba |

Fort Mason's awesome location with the live music, brewed beer and at least 11 trucks to choose a variety of food for dinner. Parking is a bit tough but the place is buzzing with energy. Dumpling truck is my fave and they run out of veg soon. The Mexican truck will give a mango on a stick with chilly paprika powder...yummy. chairman's tofu and the momo guys are just great. You eat a lot so split the dishes. Dessert is low as the don't guy runs out. The cotton candy truck has unique flavors but was pricy at 6 bucks.

Amazing good time!

By Sarah S |

What could be better then dozens of food drinks with every food imaginable, tents with choices of wine, beer and mixed drinks and amazing live music? Only if it lasted longer into the night!

Lots of options

By Alexandra_castle |

A beautiful evening in San Fran and we tried a few trucks. Drinks over priced but nice vibe and worth a look

Don't get too excited...

By Time2SeeItAll |

It was just fast food. Tasty, but not bursting with flavour. I had the choice from 5 food vans, the prices were pretty standard. Maybe I looked forward to it too much, but it was okay. We chose not to go again.

An Unexpected and Completely Amazing Food Truck Extravaganza!

By SB4SD |

My husband and I got to experience Off the Grid as part of a group that came here that was in town for a meeting. I highly recommend it, they had an amazing array for food and everything we had was delicious! Be sure to share as the portions are huge, but so worth the calories.

An experience but bring a jacket

By esakimoto |

It was a Friday night in August and our daughter took us to Off the Grid at Fort Mason in San Francisco. The gathering of food trucks and primarily younger patrons was exciting almost carnival like. We spent about an hour sampling various vendor foods and it was most enjoyable. The food is good but a little pricier than we expected. You can tell by the longer lines which trucks are more popular than others. We tried a little of everything sharing a bite here and there. It's trendy and a place where people seem to go to be seen as well as to fill-up on culturally diverse food offerings in smaller portions. Because the area is near the water, remember to bring a jacket because in the open air at night you'll get chilled very quickly. Maybe it's because we're just a little older but after a while I began thinking why am I here standing up in a parking lot eating food in the freezing cold. It's something to try a least once during your visit to San Francisco, but for my money I think I'd rather be sitting in a warm restaurant with a beer or cocktail and a nice steak and lobster. Oh well it was honestly fun and a worthwhile experience. The food was good and I'd rate the taste an A- and the experience a B+. Go for the experience and be willing to try different foods and you'll have a good time. Just dress warmly.

Fantastic atmosphere and great food!

By Jacqueline |

I went to Off the Grid before attending a performance at Cowell Theater. The ambiance reminded me a bit of open space bars and cafes in West Africa. The food trucks are top notch, as would be expected in San Francisco, and included Burmese, Mexican, Indian, donuts, creme brûlée and among the 20 or so there. The tents in the middle serve booze and a live DJ animates the evening. Not a lot of seating but you can take the food to the tables closer to the complex's tables and soak in the view from the pier. I was on my own but felt comfortable. A great SF experience.

Do not miss this Friday evening event.

By Jennifer C |

Fabulous foodie fun. Food trucks and food stalls. Great vibe. Great eats. Super drink offerings. Tunes. Dancing. All outside. What is not to love?! Don't fill up on the first thing that looks delicious. It's ALL delicious; you'll want to try more. Bring a sweater!

Amazing experience!

By maggiefreeman83 |

We went here for dinner last Friday and it was an amazing experience. They start around 5 and it lasts until 10. We got to the Marina around 8 and park our car on Amy’s driveway using MonkeyParking app. You must go early as possible to avoid the large crowds and to get easy parking. So many food trucks to choose from!!! There are lots of different types of food, about 30 different catering trucks, and the alcohol selection is great! If you wanna try some good food, drink a beer and meet new friends Fort Mason is where you should be on Friday in San Francisco. Cons: the lines can get crazy, it can get a little cold and seating will be scarce

Great night

By Victoriajgee |

Off the Grid is brilliant. We arrived early so managed go avoid the ques. The food was great with lots to choose from and the atmosphere was very lively, helped massively by the amazing DJ. everyone was up dancing as the sunset with people from all generations eating drinking dancing and having a great night. I would highly recommend it.

Fun Street Food

By IanWLondon |

Fort Mason Center is a great spot for a big variety of good quality street food on a Friday evening. It maybe purely a 'Londoner' thing, but I'm not sure why they don't employ a few more bar staff. We were there on a lovely June summer's evening, but the queues to buy a drink were insanely long. I never mind waiting for good food, but waiting for a glass of wine to be poured is painful

Really Cool, Really Good

By Matthew Gibson |

This was a unique experience that we loved. It was almost like going to a food festival. There were about 30 food trucks with every kind of cuisine imaginable. The pork at The Chairman was top of the list. I recommend you download the Off the Grid app for your smart phone and find out where the trucks will be each day. They usually have a morning location and an evening location. Most of the time there are only a few trucks, but some days, Friday Night for example, there are as many as 30 trucks. This is a MUST VISIT for San Francisco visitors and foodies alike.

We attended the Friday Night Food Truck Festival at Fort Mason Center. It was a great time! We had some amazing food - Chicken & Waffles, Carne Asada Cheese Fries and Dumplings. They also had a great DJ and then a band. We would attend every weekend if we lived in the area. Great fun!

What to order!!!

Truck vendor all in one location, at Fort Mason. They have it on Friday nights there. The food was excellent! Seafood chowder on french fries, fry chicken in between two Belgian waffles mayo and cilantro!! Bus service go home was a little slow.

Something different

A little off the beaten track but a great vibe and fun atmosphere with a good selection of street food on offer and great live music too. Fire pits with seating to keep you cosy if it gets nippy so defo worth a visit if you are there on a Friday night.

Music, Fun, & Fabulous cheap eats on the Waterfront

By Kristi H |

Off the Grid at Fort Mason on Friday nights is a fantastic way to sample a variety of amazing food at very reasonable prices. There were over 30 food trucks & tents selling a wide array of entrées, sides, snacks, & desserts with most entrées in the $5-8.00 range. There was a live band playing which added energy to the event. There are lots of folding chairs (no tables) & most people circled enough chairs to accommodate those in their group. Leave a plate, water bottle or something on your chair & no one will take your chair while you are getting food. I was with a group of 6 and we were all sharing so we could try more things. Our favorite was the burritos from the Senor Sisig truck and the creme brulee from a vendor selling from a booth/tent. For a schedule of the trucks & where they will be go to www.offthegridsf.com. I have been to SF many times but this was my first time at OtG. It won't be my last. It is now on my must-do list for future trips to SF.

Lots of yummy options

By hsmith09 |

We went to the Off the Grid Markets at Presidio Park where it was more like a picnic style. We loved it! So many great food options to pick from - many of which some we'd never tried before. We tried several different trucks and shared what we ordered. The location was really cool (bit windy, though!) We never found the lines too long. We waited max 10 minutes which we think is okay.

Fun Friday night

I tried Koja Kitchen and Korean Bob Cha. The portions are generous. Lots of food trucks and vendors to choose from. Best to arrive early at 5pm to avoid the crowds.

Off The Grid...Delicious and Fun Food Truck Experience

By NurseMeg |

I found out about Off the Grid in a travel blog about cheap eats in San Francisco. I was in SF in June for a conference and took my sister and my 12 year old nephew with me. As we're from NJ, we were looking for inexpensive options for dinner and decided to give Off the Grid a try. We were up in FIshermen's Wharf and decided to walk down to Off the Grid. Not really knowing where we were going, it was a bit longer than we thought, but a really beautiful and scenic walk along the waterfront. As we got closer to Fort Mason, we could smell all the wonderful smells coming from the parking lot. We got there just as the trucks were opening and had the best cheap eats on our trip...fish tacos, lumpia, pancit, quesadillas, beef tacos, etc. Off The Grid has the best selection of Filipino, Indian, Mexican and other ethnic foods served from the food trucks that circulate around San Francisco. On Friday nights, they gather at Fort Mason for this little party and diners gorge themselves on delicous food, drink local bar specialties and listen to the sounds of live performers. When all was said and done, I think we spent about 50 bucks for three of us and we were totally stuffed...so much that we had to get a cab back to our hotel! If you're looking for a truly unique dining experience that gives you a taste of the best ethnic foods in San Francisco, don't miss Off the Grid! I'm still dreaming of the lumpia....the best I've ever tasted.

Mother of all Food Truck Fests

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

Lucky to be staying in SF on a Friday night. Walked down to this event and entered overlooking the fest. What a sight to see the circled trucks and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. We tried three different trucks and a local brew. Prices were reasonable, music was live and good, and the crowd well behaved. Lots of fun on a Friday night in SF!

Highlight of SF trips

By sarsberry |

Every time I come to San Francisco, I plan to stay Friday night just to attend Off the Grid at Fort Mason! So much great food, drinks, music and people in one place! It's always a highlight of our SF trips. TIP: Bring a jacket -- No matter how beautiful the day is, it always gets cold and a little windy at night. There are sweaters for sale at the event but cost $40, which could otherwise be spent on food and drinks!

Food truck party city!

By knepbra |

We have food truck parks where I'm from, but nothing like this! I don't know how it is on nights other than opening night, but we happened to be here at just the right time. There was a DJ, radio stations, and live music for entertainment, plus 30 trucks and tents with a whole assortment of cuisine. This is an outside venue, so prepare for whatever type of weather is to come. There was a brisk breeze but the massive crowd helped cut the chill. There are booze tents to keep you warm as well. We gave a bbq place and a cheesesteak place a go. They were both amazing. Definitely a fun outing on a Friday night in SF!

Exactly what the city needs!

By Kellie S |

So excited to have Fort Mason OTG back - this is exactly what the city needed after a few years of being shut down! From the amazing & diverse selection of food vendors, fun music & other wonderful entertainment - this event is truly my favorite Friday night Summer activity!

This is an awesome San Fran experience!

By kidsdo2013 |

On our first day in San Francisco, friends took us here. Every Saturday and Sunday there is a huge marketplace set up around the Presidio. Parking is difficult to find, but it's well worth it. The food is awesome and from some of the best restaurants in the city. There are also market stops to purchase goods and food to take home. Wine and beer and cocktails are for purchase in the center of the field. All around great introduction to San Fran! Every city needs one of these!

Food truck paradise in San Francisco!

By LouC151 |

I was visiting SF for a week and I was delighted to catch this weekly food truck gathering on a Friday night. It was probably the biggest street food event I had ever been in North America! There were seemingly endless options of food trucks and vendors to choose from, featuring innovative fusion cuisines from around the world. The line up for certain food trucks can be long but it was well worth the wait. You can enjoy the outdoor dining with fellow foodies in a festive atmosphere. There wasn't enough seats for people to see but you can just walk down the street and enjoy your food facing the beautiful San Francisco Bay. The venue is accessible by public transit, so it was truly a fun foodie experience that fits most people's budget.

Lots of ethnic choices

By shellyb72 |

We were a bit disappointed here as we are not the most adventurous of eaters and there were a lot of ethnic food trucks here. Furthermore I was a bit under the impression that you could try lots of things here, which you certainly could if you didn't mind the large portion sizes (and could drop that much cash). We settled for the safe bacon bacon truck, which had a horrific line even before the event started and my husband had an excellent bacon burger. I got nachos from Sr Sigsig which were good. The best tho was our chocolate tacos from Rocko's. The atmosphere was very fun here. We met several nice people sitting at the picnic tables, good music from dj, happy vibe!!

Street food - On the streets of San Francisco!

By Andy810 |

We had long been waiting to try the food truck concept which we had seen so many times on Food Network and so when we found out that our hotel as half a mile from Fort Mason which plays host to Off The Grid each Friday night, we were right there. Imagine a large, empty, parade ground cum parking lot which is ringed by a line of brightly painted trucks each steaming and smoking through a chimney, with a line of people waiting for a carry-out. Then in the middle of all of this is a couple of large tents; one selling locally brewed beer and wine, the other housing a couple of decks, a mixing board and speakers of varying size and volume. In between are a thousand people all eating, drinking, boogying and generally chilling and you've an idea of what Off the Grid is all about. The variety of food is extremely eclectic. Portions are on the small side (think tapas) and so you can sample a variety of different styles or dishes. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed and the it all goes on into the darkness. We met local friends there while of vacation, passing through and had a blast. Excellent - 5.

Good

By Andrew D |

Good food and atmosphere, lots of different selections for appetizers, mains and desserts including meat, vegan, and vegetarian options from all types of world cuisines. Though, some locations are strongly impacted by the weather. The Presidio Twilight on Thursday nights and Fort Mason on Friday nights can get pretty cold and windy and aren't nearly as enjoyable as the Presidio one on Sundays.

Off The Grid Ft. Mason was Off The Hook!!!

By Jason S |

Loved it! Tons of food vendors and drinks! An outside party with thousands of your closest friends. We met two groups of people when we were there and both were extremely friendly and welcoming to San Francisco. We got overwhelmed with food choices, but decided on Happy Dumplings, Momo Noodles and some Grill Cheese nachos...so good! When the sun goes down it gets cold, so I suggest a jacket and long pants.

Awesome

By IloveNewYorker |

Didn't know how we would ever choose what to eat so we started with dessert at Johnny Doughnuts. Despite an insanely creative variety of choices we went with a basic glazed and a salted caramel doughnut. Without question the best glazed we have ever eaten. Thick moist light perfectly sweetened. I'll be dreaming o of this. Next the Pablo breaded chicken sandwich with slaw pickles and old bay aioli amazing this.this Can't remember theare always in the same place then

Fun night in San Fran

By dsass86 |

Was in SF for a conference, and a buddy recommended Off the Grid. Couldn't have been happier. There were nearly 20 options for dinner, snacks, desserts, and drinks. I arrived a bit late (the trucks close around 10pm, and I arrived around 8:30), and there was only one type of beer left. Settled for wine instead and had a great garlic/beef noodle dish at "An The Go," a Vietnamese food truck. There was literally something for everyone though. And I was pleasantly surprised by the space. A lot of food truck gatherings can be crowded with long lines. This was efficient, and everyone in my group (there were 10 of us) was able to find seating. We had a great night out in SF and enjoyed the live music as well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting SF, and I'd definitely visit again in the future.

Walking the park this is a gem

By fizzy1991 |

This is a perfect place to grab a lunch after a walk in the park. Didn’t even know this was here. Really fresh good food too.

Fun Friday Food!

By William M |

The Granddaddy of food truck settings, just a few years ago the first SF food truck gatherings started here. And over the years the vendors have changed, but the food is always good. Enjoy!

Great gathering of "gourmet" food trucks

By Dominique050 |

My advice: go there early, grab a couple of chairs (that becomes difficult after 18.30), a bier or a cocktail (avoid the wine, over priced and awful), and spend the evening sampling the food and enjoying the life music, the terrific atmosphere and the sun set on the hills. Our favorite: the Asian fusion taco's from Taco guys.

A wonderfully, mad, crazy, joyous experience

By rassors |

Off the Grid Fort Mason, is a lot of food trucks with an incredible variety of food all very reasonably priced. On Fridays they set up in a historic old Army base where during World War II service men and women boarded ships for overseas. There are tables and chairs set up and usually live music and they even serve wine a beer. Dog, and kids, and people, young and old all mix in a really fun atmosphere. Some advice: Dress warm, its on the bay and this is San Francisco. Wander around and scope out the scene first there is a ton of variety, then grab a seat (sometimes hard to do) and send off people in your party to fetch food...try a variety of trucks they are all good. Either before or after if it is still daylight wander up the hill to the other part of the fort some great views. If you are on foot or bike this will lead you down to Ghiradelli square and Fisherman's Wharf or you can get to Fort Mason by foot this way also from Ghiradelli square and the Maretime Museum. If you are not here on Friday, the only day this event occurs. I would also suggest the Thursday Haight and Stanyan event from 4:30-7 (I think) . This is very local, much smaller and has about 8-10 trucks, live music also lots of fun. You can follow up by a walk on Haight street or end your expoloration of Golden Gate Park here. If neither of these work they have places set up at lunch time but they are not as "family" oriented and more for people working in the area check out http://offthegridsf.com/ for locations

A great night

This place is great! There was amazing food from great independent food trucks, great drinks, fab entertainment and a great atmosphere.

Magical, Musical Experience

By KVioleta13 |

Visited when my partner and I were in town and had a blast. There was a live band and incredible food to suit all tastes. Come hungry, and wear your eating pants - you can literally walk around for hours, sampling different foods and beer. I would definitely visit again anytime I'm in the area!

Find Your Nearest Off the Grid Market!

By Edina E |

If you have the chance to experience Off the Grid in the Bay area, you must! The sweet potato fries from Love Burn were the summer crunch I needed last Friday. There are various local foods to try, live music, drinks, friendly staff, and people having a good time.

Short Walk for Tourists to Dining Nirvana

By hirunningman |

You can partake of the commercial offerings in Fisherman's Wharf area OR, on a Friday evening, take a walk on the shoreline path from the Maritime Museum to Fort Mason to enjoy the food truck rally. Over a dozen food truck offerings for dinner, another half dozen for dessert, and a wine/beer/craft cocktail station will give you a spectrum of choices and a pleased palate. There is usually music, as well as patio heaters to help when the sun sets. We had (from various vendors) crab fries, "brisket cheesesteak', mac and cheese w/brisket, and lobster bisque. All outstanding. We followed up with dessert of yeast-risen donuts and called it a day. WAY better than anything you might find at Fisherman's Wharf.

A Moveable Feast in San Francisco!

By Ryanroseberry |

Off the Grid (the conglomeration of food trucks that so wonderfully makes its way throughout the Bay Area) at Fort Mason is the pinnacle of Food Truck heaven. Easily accessible along Marina Blvd. in San Fran at the Fort Mason Center, Off the Grid on Friday nights offers locals one of the most eclectic and lively eating and drinking experiences in California. Always packed and always fun, there is food for everyone, skee ball, live music, lights strung, outdoor heaters, merchandise for sale, public restrooms, you name it. The crowd is hip, young (but not too young: think twenty somethings to forty somethings mostly) and excited, and the food is well priced (even if some portions are smallish: think tapas in Spain). The only downside would be the cool nights in San Fran (bring a jacket and a beanie) and the lack of seating space (don't expect to find a table with friends unless you are either very early or very late. But if you're here, you're not here for fine dining, you're here for great food and a lively social scene, so find a place to stand or squat, or just walk and eat. Of note, drink prices are not reasonable and those planning to fully enjoy the night could bring their own cups and take initiative in providing their own libations for a far more economical (and enjoyable experience) and the options for beer, wine, and spirits are limited.

Off the grid is amazing!

This is such a great Friday night activity!! The lines were not long at all, and the food was incredible. No better way to start the weekend

Tasty from 25 - 30 Food Trucks in one place !!

By My M |

Every Friday 5-10 is where to be ... to eat such variety of tasty food in 1 place. We try to get there by 4:30 to give us time to browse around and check each of the trucks and what they offer ... then plan your strategy which ones to go on line for your food adventure. Come early and they have chairs. They also have a DJ and at 8:00 they have a band. This is our group's 3rd time. We love Chairman Bao - baked pork belly with marinated daikon radish - this is #1 fav - those combination ... just heavenly ! We love the Kamikaze fries from Kojac - a fusion with Korean taste .... We tried Chicken Cilantro Dumplings -- yummy. Elvis peanut butter/nutella/bacon sandwich - for dessert ! Burn a little calories ... do some dancing ! Bring a jacket & scarf --- gets cold at night. Enjoy such variety of great food !! :)

Friday nigth - try something new!

By klju |

Fun to try the different flavors of the many food trucks. Very crowded and too few places to sit. We tried Koja and the Tacco boys

Amazing !!

SEASONAL - NOT OPEN IN May??!! Weird

By Heather S |

THIS IS SEASONAL. We went first week of May - didn’t see anything on any site anywhere indicating it wouldn’t be open. It wasn’t. We froze our butts off for almost 2 hours trying to get food elsewhere.

A Good time

By Khattykathy |

We enjoyed looking at the different foods offered by all of the food trucks. It was fun and full of energy and live music. We liked the food and the atmosphere. It needs more seating, not nearly enough for all the people who show up, so when you get a seat you feel the standing people, circling, looking for a seat. It is crowded and energetic and fun.
