Good times, good beers

By pistachio2 |

Dropped by Old Irving Brewing Co with a couple of friends, totally unscripted. Place is nice, super clean, clean aesthetic. I liked the set up. We were driving so we couldn't drink too much. My two friends settled on some beer flights and since I was free of responsibility, took aim at their cocktails. Of course, you go to a place like this to try their own brews, but I'm not much of a beer drinker, so it was nice to see they had a good selection of whiskey and bourbon . . . and even some tequila, gin and vodka on offer. I settled for their Rye Manhattan, which was very good. Big main bar started getting busier. I could see the couple of bartenders were a bit under the cos to handle the customers. It's a tall order to serve food and make drinks at the same time, but they kept their cool. I can tell this place hired pros. We weren't there for food, unfortunately, so I didn't get to try out their menu. The flights were varied and the reviews for the beers were all over the place. But it gives you an easy conversation starter with the stranger sitting next to you. We met quite a few people while we were there, so it seemed like the kind of place that the customers are not so pleased with themselves that they can't mingle with strangers. That's a nice perk, especially at a hip joint. For whatever reason (and good for business) the place started getting filled. It wasn't a weekend so I was a bit surprised. But the early evening crowd started coming in and we decided to wrap it up to give some other folk a chance to eat and drink. Noticed they ran out of a lot of beverages while we were there. A lot of people asking for wine had to be let down easily. Place must have had a busy weekend. Anyway, high marks for the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the professional staff, and the nice clientele. Drinks were good, varied. And the prices were just about in line for this type of establishment. Will go again to sample the food.

Some quality near home

By Brian A |

Finally, a real brew pub near the house. The milk stout is on point. Wings, also very good. Steak frites? Eh. I dont like my steak pre cut and with the salad dressing creeping up on it. Steak was done right (medium), but the plate presentation was a bit of a mess. I shall try your onion rings next time. Friends both had the chicken sandwich, which they say was very good

Best brewery in Chicago

By Brenda P |

I love the atmosphere and service of this brewery! The food is always amazing with trendy specials and they brew their own signature beer on site! Joseph was our server/bartender and if you’re lucky you can even get your picture taken with him!

Awesome brewery & food

By Linda s |

OIB has great beer brewed on site & a varied menu to please nearly everyone. They have a wide variety of beer styles & have a full bar & guest ciders. The food has good drinking snacks & full meals that utilize their beers as ingredients. Every Xmas they have Krampus Cookies stout. YUM!!

Great range of beers and upscale food menu

By kimibar |

Constantly changing beer offerings from IPA to dark and delicious, wheat beers; from 5% to 10.5% alcohol content. They have a 2 oz. tester size, so you can try a flight of 5 or 6. Not your sports-bar kind of brewery menu. Inventive appetizers, various kinds of salads; we had the grilled porchetta--the basic Italian preparation and cut, but sort of re-grilled and dark/crispy on the outside. Roasted acorn squash, a seafood special, etc. Wanted to try the desserts. Menus and beers change regularly, so it's worth coming back to. There is a large square bar in one room; long and short wooden tables in another room. The brewery vats are in the glassed-in area at the back. Excellent service from the front of the house to the wait staff. No dedicated parking, so you need to find street parking.

great place, with great food

By nelybea29 |

The food was great, the ambience was great. I only wished they added more to their dessert list. BUT overall great place to try. The beers made in house are all great and this is coming from a person who does not favor beers, but OIB has great beers.

Grew Brew Pub

By Marshall V |

People get misled by what places have to offer and leave questionable reviews. Hence, they would go here and say, "limited wine" or "not a great entree selection". Although these points may be valid for them.....THIS IS N OT WHERE TO GO FOR AN EXTENSIVE WINE LIST OR A FRIG-GIN TRUFFLE VEAL CHOP... Place is what it is and it is very good, home crafted beers, great burger blend on house made roll. Roomy, a ton of monitors for events, different levels of seating and venues, not a big box, although the main bar is large and imposing.....doesn't bother me, it's a brew pub, and a consistently good one at that. One cool thing I like is that young families also go here, I have never been here, when I have not seen kids, and I'm cool with that

Tasty visit with friends

By Jon W |

We visited with a few friends that live in the area and thought the food and beer was great. They were very accommodating to special dietary requests for our friends children and we all really enjoyed our food. The beers we tried were also very drinkable (not necessarily a given anymore with all of the breweries/tap rooms opening). We will certainly visit again when in the area.

Pleasant surprise

By Bryan D |

My wife and I went with another couple to this Old Irving place. It was a Sat brunch in the summer. The beers leaned toward saison and IPAs. We all enjoyed our beers, especially an IPA with mosaic hops. We all opted for lunch options. The sandwiches wowed us. My wife's burger was cooked to her liking (medium rare) and my porchetta was thinly sliced and combined with a perfect mix of toppings. My friend's lamb ribs were the only disappointment. He felt they were grizzly and specifically asked if could get some more on the rare side. They came out well done. The server did not seem to know if they could be done rare or medium rare. The potatoes with them were wonderful. Stick to sandwiches and beer.

Great Neighborhood place.

By LizinChi |

Great neighborhood place with great food, beers, atmosphere and staff. You can take out growlers of beer as well. Burgers of the week are fun and you can get them on the Impossible Burger too!

Great Chicago Brewery with Good Food

By Katie S |

The beer they brew is awesome and they switch out beers often to make new ones each season. They have great deals too! Monday night they have a beer and burger deal and other days they have there beer for great prices! Check out their website events for all their deals. They also have great and interesting food. It is not just typical brewery food and there burger of the week can be very unique. I also follow them on Instagram - which usually lets me know there specials and when they are brewing new beers.

Craft brewery

By Anna H |

This brewery is located in old Irving, which happens to be convenient to Mayfair, Historic 6 corners, and Forest Glen. The brewery is in an old warehouse. There is a large bar, and table service as well. The beer list is short, but there is also a full bar. You can order a tasting portion, pint or growler fill of the 6 house, and 1 collaboration beer. The beer was pretty good, in a variety of styles. The food is upscale, with a limited pub menu. Try the burger and the chicharrones with hot sauce and ranch dressing. Our request for medium well turned out a rare burger, but it was fairly easily remedied. Interesting stop, especially for all the bicyclists while we were there.

Great food and beers with decent service - and not overly noisy on our visit

By Dedgehog |

We were all very pleased that our daughter suggested this place. Both the food (appetizers, entrees and desserts) and the beers were delicious and we were able to converse. Service was good and we were able to park right outside the front door.

Best burger I've ever had

By eiu80 |

We needed to pick up some supplies in Chicago for our local brewery. The brewery owners suggested we eat here before heading home. So glad they did. We sat at the bar and our server was there with water and menus very quickly. The menu is small but offers a great variety. I ordered the burger and my husband had fish and chips. Both meals were served hot and fresh. The burger was the best burger I'd ever had. Large and delicious. You know it will be good when they ask you how you'd like it cooked. My medium wood-fired burger was cooked to perfection. Served on a toasted Brioche bun with white Cheddar, crispy onions, caramelized onions, and garlic-vinegar aioli My husband said his fish was cooked perfectly as well and wasn't greasy at all. He doesn't usually like cod, but he said this cod was delicious. Both meals came with a side of garlic fries. He likes his fries extremely crispy and said they could have been cooked a little longer. I felt they were perfect...crispy on the outside with a softer potato inside. Flavored with just the right amount of garlic, they are a great accompaniment to the main course. I ended up taking half my burger home to enjoy another day along with some of my fries. Restaurant is decorated nicely in an old-English tavern style. They have an additional dining room, but were only seating people in the bar area while we were there. In the back of the restaurant is the brewery so you can watch what's going on while you're dining. We didn't order a beer since we had a long drive home ahead of us. Our only negative was the music is extremely loud and makes it difficult to hear. If you are ever in the area of Old Irving's, be sure to stop in. You'll be glad you did.

Great Beers on Tap, Great Service

By Mark Lukasik |

I was at Old Irving Brewery with my wife, we sat at the bar. I had a Cinnamon Prost Beer and wife had a Right Beer Cider. Both drinks were very good. We also had dinner and both had the OIB Burger. Wow this Burger was amazing. I would highly consider this Brewery for a great Beer or even dinner.

Wishful thinking

By Pedro C |

OIBC was on our list of places to dine. We took the trek from downtown with our friends who were not to keen on the idea. The location is near the L stop which is convenient. The place is large, the bar greets you and then to the side is the main dining room. The service was spot on from the moment we hit the reception area. We sat near the open garage door and ordered four different beers. These did not disappoint. I also ordered a Montrose mule that was deliciously dangerous. Perhaps too expensive at $14. The food is the piece of resistance. It was amazing. Fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked. I wish this place would be closer to downtown. In the meantime, I will make it a destination stop. It is that good.

Great Food and atmosphere

By Bill L |

This is my third trip here but first time ordering full blown meal off the menu. The food is even better than we expected and all 5 lunch entrees were excellent. The Dragon Burger was exceptional as were the fish sandwiches and pork belly. Can't say enough about their beers, very good and stand up against most of the long established craft breweries in Chicago. The atmosphere here is probably the best I've been to. Staff is super friendly and fun and they have ample screens to watch the games while you dine or sample beers.

Friday night out

By Fris |

Good selection and a variety of beers and drinks. The cider selection is limited but what they do have is good.

can't wait to go back

By Amy L |

The food here is so tasty with a varied menu and great choices for brunch. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is cool, will definitely be going back for their midweek deals.

Awesome Beers, Food and Service!!

By ChicagoAlleyCat |

We had a very positive experience with OId Irving Brewery Co. from start to finish. I contacted Britney, the event coordinator, asking if OIB would be able to accommodate 36 people at the same time for about an hour if we stopped by on a private Barrel Bus charter. She responded right away and she continued to be super-friendly and helpful while answering my numerous emails with questions about what our options would be with such a large group arriving on a Saturday evening. When we arrived at OIB the staff was fully aware that we were coming and they were ready for us! We had reserved the Game Room and it was the perfect space for us. Our server was awesome – she was quick to take our drink orders and was friendly and fun and handled our large group with ease. Everyone enjoyed the variety of beers and were impressed by the variety of special cocktails that were also available. Britney had help me pick out what food to pre-order and it was perfect – we got a bunch of OIB burgers, fries and fried zucchini and it arrived in the Game Room as scheduled and everyone raved about the food. We had a great time and highly recommend going there with or without a large group!!

A terriffic brew pub in Chicago

By John C |

We had a group of four for a pre-concert meal. We were delighted with the service, the food and the service. This is a place that we will return to. All of our meal selections were delicious. The service was outstanding and the beers were great.

Atmosphere and Service are top-notch

By bev51064 |

All good things to say about our experience. Lively atmosphere for a football Saturday. Plenty of televisions with multiple games on. Menu was somewhat limited to bar/comfort food but shouldn’t expect anything more at a brew house. Service was friendly and very attentive. Great beer selections. IPAs were great. Lighter beer was average. No reservations taken so get there early if you have a big group. Enjoy!

Wedding Reception Fun

By Callie M |

This was a neat venue for a wedding reception we went to recently. The drinks were interesting and the beer was unique. I would say that it was an average brewery and is kind of far from downtown Chicago. We had a 30 min Uber ride.

Great food

By WillySpr |

There are 2 sides to OIBC. Upon entering is the bar side and as one would expect on a Friday night a little loud. In the other similarly large room, the atmosphere was tamer. Several children were eating at the tables near us. The service was pretty good, a little slow but professional and friendly. The food was very good. My wife had the goat taco special, excellent. Reasonably priced for the food quality and Chicago location.

Not impressed

By chicagotoots |

Nice atmosphere and pleasant waitstaff. Many beers to select from, limited on wine. Dinner menu few items, sandwiches a few more choices and served with choice of salad or fries. Breads are made daily. ABLT sandwich was okay, didn’t care for the salad (no choice of dressings), hubbys burger ‘wasn’t that good’, others said their dinner (salmon) was good. Nice thing there is an area to play bags so there were some children playing while their adults conversed. Will not return, was that unimpressed.

Best of the many Chicago brewery restaurants

By RandR J |

Food is above average, the pretzel appetizer is very good as is the tenderloin. I'd also say try the octopus. The beers are better overall than anything I've tried in Chicago, and I've tried quit a few. The very competent and professional bartender Jeff could really use some help but he's is a wealth of good information and has fantastic service.

Local Brewpub with Excellent Beer

By Minjals |

I've been to Old Irving Brewing Company about a half dozen times, it's a large and lively brewpub in the Old Irving/Mayfair neighborhood with a solid beer selection. The brewpub offers a variety of styles with a great focus on pale ales (specifically IPA's and APA's). On my most recent visit they offered a recently brewed rapsberry kettle sour that was truly delicious. I'm partial to IPA's and APA's and their brews are overall good with a few which are outstanding. You have the option to get most beer in 5/10/16oz servings although a few styles are not sold in all three sizes. You can also buy (or bring in!) a growler and fill it with your favorite beer. I've eaten here a few times - they offer snacks and upscale pub food. I'm partial to the soft pretzels with beer cheese but have tried other items and enjoyed them. Prices are on par to upscale pub food (entrees run $12 - 16 typically). There are vegetarian options which are quite good. The space is open so even when busy it doesn't feel crowded or unbearable. There are a few sections - the bar area which is quite large with seating near it, a back room which limited seating and beanbags/cornhole, and a larger dining area where they open the garage doors/windows which makes the area really pleasant when the weather is nice. It seems to be a favorite spot for people in the neighborhood and starts to fill up after 7PM or so. Service is pleasant and professional though I note they seem understaffed when I've visited. I've always stopped by on Wednesday nights and sit at the bar and while at the start of the night the service is excellent I notice as the night goes on it picks up I get overlooked because the bar staff seem overwhelmed since they're responsible for pouring all drinks in addition to serving customers sitting at the bar. I can't vouch for service at tables with dedicated waitstaff since I've never sat at the tables. Old Irving is easy to reach via the CTA blue line (Montrose stop), 78 Montrose bus, and Mayfair Metra stop (Milwaukee District/North Line)

Great brewery restaurant with something for everyone

By Meghan WF |

We stopped here for brews and food on a Saturday evening while visiting friends in Chicago we are regulars here. The Loyola men's basketball team was playing in the Elite Eight so the place (like all of Chicago) was packed. We were told the wait for our party of 8 for a table was 2 hours, but we only had to wait for about 1 hour, so bonus for us! Old Irving has the steampunk gastropub feel that makes so many breweries endearing and approachable. Despite the crowd size, the place was very clean and has a large bar with ample seating. There is also a second room with more expansive seating options. And please don't worry, there are large TVs with sports in every room! The brews I had were unique yet approachable. I started with the infamous Ladybeer'd, which was crisp and refreshing with lovely lemongrass overtones. Over dinner I savored the Rack Pack Belgian dubbel, which was nicely flavored with bourbon boozy overtones. All of the wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would also say that the pricing of beer is on par for a microbrewery and the food is a great deal for the portion size and quality of ingredients. If you are looking for a light meal, Old Irving Brewing may not be your cup of tea. That being said they do offer vegetarian offerings such as a veggie wrap and salads and have a broad array of offerings, from burgers and sandwiches to seafood. Even better is that all of their ingredients (or most of) are locally sourced and support nearby businesses. I had the fish sandwich, which was large and in charge and tasted amazing between the buttered bun, avocado, Cajun remoulade, and bacon. Others in our group had the BLTA(vocado), the spicy chicken sandwich, and steamed east coast black mussels. From what I understand the seafood was good, but being from a shoreline state we all have very high standards. The BLTA was also a hit although the bacon may be been a little fattier than anticipated. I will warn that while I did not taste it personally, the spicy chicken sandwich is no joke. So if you are looking for heat, this is the sandwich to try and beat. Neither person in our party was able to finish it! Old Irving Brewing has everything you could want in a brewery experience. From expansive seating, a large bar, an diverse selection of beer (and other alcoholic offerings), and menu that has something for everyone this a great place for couples, families, and larger groups. Support a local business and give this place a visit!

OIB Burger,BLTA,Spicy Chicken Sandwich,Chicken Wings & excellent Beer. Great time!

By Rodger R |

This was our second experience and still loved the beer (Beezer, Precinct were our highlights. Interpretation of Vanity was interesting, but not my cup of tea. Our sandwiches were all in the excellent categories. We had two eaters that chose OIB Chicken Wings & Wing of the week that were just ok. Back in October there was a flavor that was on the edge of awesomeness that had some type of Thai to it. Every week a new flavor rotation. We finished with all the desserts to share among five of us and Key Lime Pie was the clear winner, Apple Cobbler, Chocolate Fudge Brownies were good too.

Great Vibe

By Lisa C |

Stopped by this afternoon and tried a couple of beers. Love the vibe of the place and the free street parking. Extremely nice staff. I believe Mackenzie was our bar tender and she was excellent. Food sounded great will have to come back and try some on our next visit. Beer was cold too. I say this because I only drink beer at breweries really and I love it to be really cold! Win win!

Excellent beer and food

By randyharvey |

Met my son and his family here for dinner on a recent trip to Chicago. Wait staff very friendly and accommodating. Beers were very good, good selection of music playing, not too loud. Food was very good. Very family friendly.

Great Expectations

By Kathy Ogar Q |

The Old Irving was beyond what we expected! Fine dining, family friendly, and excellent microbrew! We were there for Sunday brunch and were surprised to find the menu full of unique fresh fare - I had the smoked Faroe Island salmon and the chilled English cucumbers (with mint, lime, and a shrimp chili vinegrette) that was so good I was tempted to lick the plate. The Guten Tag is a nice Pilsner but our favorite was the Belgian Rat Pack! Next trip to Chicago, I'm there.

Great beer! And food even better!!!

By Mena L |

You can't decide what kind of beer get there are beer flights, so you can taste more than one to find out which is your favorite! Was really impressed with the food menu! We share dishes such as a cheeseburger, beet salad and Wood fired Octopus with a kick of spice! Great atmosphere spacious for big groups!

Great Beer

By Michael |

Had a flight of 6, just grabbed every other beer from top of the menu. They were ALL incredible. I WILL BE BACK.

Good food, good beer

By Scott M |

If you're a fan of Hazy IPAs, try the Milkshake Headache - its really good! Friendly server Jamie helped make the evening nice by bringing the Brussels sprouts, the mussels, the wings and the chicken and arugula salad - all delicious! Food better than you might think.

A lovely evening.

By irnovshotmail |

Excellent, enjoyed the beer flight, they were out of the deviled eggs, the reason I went there. All in all, good choice and good food. I would totally go back.

Great lunch spot

By Chicagotraveler |

Fantastic food and great service. Met a friend for lunch on a Wednesday. Plenty of tables. Wait staff was very attentive. Steak salad was awesome. Steak was perfect medium rare, tender and well seasoned. And fries were awesome!!! Will definitely go back.

All about that Burger!

By travellernick121 |

We absolutely loved this place. We saw a video of the burger on 'Chicago's Best' and knew we needed to make a detour on our recent visit to Chicago. Our server at the bar was MacKenzie - she helped us go through the extensive beer menu whilst sat at the bar, which was by far the best we tried in Chicago. Really good craft. She was really friendly and made our evening. Since we knew we wanted the burger the food choice was easy - 2 medium rare burgers topped with an egg, served with fries. Huge and the best burger I have ever had for 16 dollars. We were a bit upset that this was our last night in Chicago and we didn't have time to go back - the rest of the menu looked so good! Just a reason to return - maybe next time when Chicago has a bit warmer weather

Hurry! Soon you will have to fight through the crowds!

By S_Chen0720 |

Situated in a restaurant "desert", Old irving could be the beginning of a trend. Originally planning to open as the Crooked Fork, its celebrity chef died and the other investors had to quickly regroup. And they successfully pulled themselves way up. Barely a year old, the crowds are starting to appear and rightly so. The beers are excellent (they are working with a distributor now) and soon you will be able to buy their brews at your store. The menu is eclectic and tasty. We had the Wings of the Week, regular and special burger, octopus, and the fish sandwich. All were excellent and distinct. The fries are to die for. We will be back.

Craft Beer & Delicious Food

By sweetkelli |

We had a great experience here! Awesome service, excellent craft beer menu and the food was amazing! We are craft beer “snobs” and loved the options they brewed in house. Definitely had some high ranks on UnTapp’d. Will definitely make a repeat visit next time in Chicago.

A nice addition to the area - a gastropub

By Allen21096 |

We picked out a restaurant for dinner and we thought that we would try something that was relatively new to the neighborhood. We decided on the Old Irving Brewing Co., which describes itself as a gastropub. There is parking on the street. Old Irving Brewing Co. is also only about a block and a half east of the Montrose Ave. CTA "Blue" Line station. It was a nice day and we noticed that the overhead door in the front was open which made for some great seating. Old Irving Brewing Co. is divided in to three sections inside. The first when you walk in the door is the host station and a large bar - I mean "large" bar. At the back, there is a section that has all of the brewing paraphernalia and barrels. Next to the large room with the huge bar, there is another room with wooden tables and several TVs which is the dining area. If you look towards the back of the building you'll see the brewing part and if you look to the front, you'll see the large window that opens up to provide a really nice open-air feeling. The staff was there immediately and Eddie was our server. He was attentive and friendly. The rest of the staff was efficient, as well, as we never ran out of our drinks. We ordered the buttermilk fried chicken which came with garlic mashed potatoes and pan gravy, braised rainbow chard and honey. Our other entree was the roast prime rib sandwich. I asked for it without the bun and also asked for the mashed potatoes to be substituted for the fries. It came with pepper jack cheese, avocado and horseradish aioli & grilled red onions. The entrees were quite tasty. We then ordered a chocolate pudding for dessert topped with vanilla creme fraiche and vanilla wafers, along with candied orange zest. Sadly, we were both disappointed in the dessert, primarily because it was dark chocolate. Had the menu been clear on the dark chocolate, we would have chosen something else. They do have a huge selection of beers and they offer flights for tasting which are presented well. Overall, this is a nice upscale restaurant in an area where there aren't too many other restaurants.. The prices are a bit higher. An interesting thing that we noticed was the number of children that were there to eat with their families. In fact, one of the TVs had one of the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies - a nice touch.

Wonderful food, not to mention the brews

By Hollis Rose |

We are delighted with this place. And if you're traveling on Chicago's CTA Blue Line, it's ultra convenient, only steps away from the Montrose stop. If you're stuck at O'hare for a few hours, you could even sneak in a meal. But I digress. Their chef is gifted. The food is far beyond bar/brewpub caliber. We swooned over the tender and flavorful grilled octopus on our first visit, and couldn't wait to return. The coal-baked Icelandic rockfish was a whole new experience -- buttery texture and perfectly cooked. Not fishy at all. Roasted beet salad was deftly prepared with Belgian endive and frisee. Can't wait to try other temptations from the menu. The food is SO good, and the beers are far from an afterthought, not to mention the creatively concocted cocktails. Can't wait to go back again and again. Even though it's a tad off the trodden path, it's easily accessible either from the train or the 78 Montrose bus! Service was swift and attentive. We love this place!

Great find and interesting menu

By Janet O |

Dinner there recently was well received by 3 generations. LOTS of kids (kid friendly) there but not distracting as you can eat in either the bar or the dining room. Dining room has corn hole to while away time. Games to borrow and play and tee shirts for sale by front door. Waiters are amazing given that there are kids underfoot. Food: Pretzel bread was out of this world. Beer cheese appy was also fab! Salmon from Faroe Islands was one of the best I ever had. Fries seasoned well and not greasy. Beer flights enjoyed. All around an excellent meal.

Awesome!!

Went with our family on an extremely cold evening but felt warm immediately. The food was delicious and the service extraordinary. Will definitely return and am recommending to anyone who visits the area

Great Place

We stopped in for lunch and a couple beers. Really good selection of food and beer. We enjoyed everything we had. Good atmosphere with lots of tv's showing multiple sports (at least on a Saturday afternoon).

Are things changing at OIB?

By Bill L |

Went over this weekend with a group of 7 for the Krampus Cookie second release. As usual beers are excellent and food is good! I’m noticing the last couple times that they get a pretty nice crowd consistently but the staff doesn’t project the coolness like when they first opened and are seemingly less friendly our last couple visits. I asked a couple beer questions and felt like I imposed....... and never got the answer. When I go to a brewery to eat and drink I would expect a little passion about their beers. Our checks are typically in the $125-150 range and I’ve always tipped 25%....... Love this place and I’m hoping it’s just a hiccup. There are many places with crafted beers and food.

Brewing up memories & friendships

By kingthos |

What a very pleasant and amazing surprise to be able to enjoy a well thought out, accidental plan by a group of friends to open a “favorite hang out”. The amazing part is connect friends with other friends in a welcoming atmosphere where the beer isn’t the only hand crafted fare. The food was on par with any other quality restaurant. If you find yourself scratching your head on where to go in Chicago, whether it is for business or fun then stop by. It is a great place for corporate events too. Have fun!

Great after work stop

By makita1 |

A group of us went here after work for some appetizers and drinks. It was for our boss's birthday. We had a few drinks and some appetizers. Great service, good appetizers and beer selection. The atmosphere was great. 2 suggestions that I would make would be additional vodka selections and more appetizer selections. We were there about 2 years ago and it has really changed. Really neat that they are canning their own beer where you can watch. I would definitely recommend this place.

Good Vibes

By JerseyFamily07 |

Stopped by for brunch on a recent Sunday. This place is comfortably rustic and chill. The bar is pretty big and the beer selection is great -- they brew their own and you can see the brewing process in the back. The food is fantastic! I ordered the Banh Mi Veggie sandwich and it is not one of my top 5 sandwiches! The baguette was overstuffed with marinated and grilled portabello mushrooms, hot red peppers, a delish aioli sauce. The eggs benedict were plentiful. You get a lot of food for your money. The service is excellent without being overbearing. I enjoyed my sandwich so much I went back the next evening and sat at the bar and had the Banh Mi again!

Great atmosphere, slow service

By KevSarBren |

We chose to eat here because we were going to the karaoke bar across the street after to meet up with friends. Loved the high ceilings, glass garage door that opens in good weather, brick walls and the brewery is visible in the bar area. Now the service. Really slow!! And while the place was full they weren't slammed. Sat for 15 minutes before a waiter came over. Ordered drinks and appetizers. Appetizers came but still no drinks, no plates or silverware. 15 minutes later the waiter came to take our dinner order. Most of the food and apps were very good. I ordered the elote risotto which was drizzled all over with a very hot chili oil which I had asked to be on the side. I couldn't tell you how it was because the spicy oil took over the flavor. Waiter never came to check on anything. We would have had more drinks and needed water but no one came over. I didn't eat my dinner. Would have sent it back but was not given that choice. Waiter finally came over and handed us the bill, never asked if anyone wanted dessert. This is 2 hours after we sat down and the place was not busy at all. So food was ok, atmosphere/decor was great, service was lacking.

Great food and beer

By Shannon G |

Excellent selection of beers. This place puts a lot of effort into making quality food, not just typical bar eats. Parking was a little difficult, but you can find something on the street if you’re patient.

Great tap selection, decent burger

By Scott M |

Had a basic but very comforting burger with two Trendi the Fifth brews. This is a hazy double IPA that really has a strong grapefruity taste. Very refreshing, and I'm not much of an IPA guy. Tasted the brown ale as well, with an unmistakable maple syrup smell and taste. Friendly servers as well, cool open and rustic space.

Kitchen 'transition'?

By DeBeauvoirTraveller |

We visited on Sunday. It was 2.30pm and were told that the kitchen was 'in transition' between brunch and dinner menus. They had a bar bite menu that offered a burger, wings & a BLT. All were disappointing, lackluster and heavily salted. Kids meals were standard. I'm hoping the place had been rammed busy earlier in the day; if not, the waiter needed to pick it up. Great venue, beer is good but from what we experienced of the food, they still have some way to go.

Great new brewery

I've been to Old Irving Brewing several times since it opened about 2 months ago and each time has been a great experience. Since it is a brewery I'll start with the beer, which is fantastic. Huge fan of the IPA and the Kolsch is excellent as well. The others are good too, but not as much my preference for beer (too dark). The food is also outstanding. It is a fairly casual place but the food is a step above. Good variety and everything I've had (burger/wings/Mac&cheese/prawns/pork rinds) has been very good. I'm particularly a fan of the burger. The service has also been generally good even though it was usually busy. If you haven't checked it out yet, you won't be disappointed.

Very Cool Atmosphere, Great Beer

By GhiaGirl |

Heard about this place from high school pals, and on a recent visit to Chicago my brother and his family brought me there for dinner one snowy night. Cool, bustling place full of the customarily bearded beer nerds and hipsters. Our server was actually also one of the brewers which made our experience extra fun and interesting. All but one of the IPAs were sold out, so we all have enjoyed the weirdly-named Shower Dreams double-hopped IPA. Dinner was good. Salmon croquettes with chimchurri were on special. My nephews had classic bacon Mac & Cheese. Friendly folks, great beer, tall ceilings, happy customers. I will definitely go back next time I am in town

Worth the trip!

We traveled 12 stops on the blue line (the L) to get here from our downtown hotel - SO worth the trip. Outstanding craft beer, good wine/cocktail selection. Food was also really good. Terrific merch. Service was friendly and quick. Would classify this as a hidden gem. Highly recommend!

Great place to eat with good vibe.

We wanted something that was not far from the highway to meet up with family members. They checked vaccine cards at the table and not at the door. This is a large open space where we were seated with a hipster Seattle brewing vibe. We started with beers and they were delicious. I had the beezer I am not a big fan of IPAs. I tasted the ginger hard seltzer which is light. We had asked for one taste of the sour beer and I thought the server said no and was not happy. Minutes later she was back with our taste. So yes the service was good. The food was good. We started with the beet salad which I highly recommend and we shared this between six people. We also had the pork rinds and the pretzel. I could’ve done without the pretzels as I did not like the cheese sauce. For entrées I had the octopus which included two legs over potatoes with a great sauce. If you order the octopus make sure you like to eat the leg portion. The Fish and chips were good . I tasted after the lemon was squeezed and the breading was not crisp. Likely the lemon. The fries are well cooked. Someone else at the table have the brisket and another the chicken sandwich which they also liked. We ended with the key lime pie and that was amazingly delicious and easily split between two or more It was at least 4 inches diameter. Crisp dried lime pieces on the top. So good. We will be back. Parking can be tough and one in our party looked for parking for 15 min. I got a spot of free parking immediately.

Good beer & pub grub

Unusual spot for a brew pub -- drove by many times & finally stopped in. Beer was good and fair assortment -- all at reasonable prices for Chicago. Maibock was dry but flavorful. Menu was limited put food was good and portions were generous.Fries were not overseasoned. Only street parking available.

Great brew and dinner

Chicago has loads of brew pubs. In some brew is good, in others the food is good. The Old Irving Brewing co has the best of both. We came here with family to celebrate two birthdays. One of us is a beer officiando. Our beer expert pronounced the multiple beers he sampled to be superb. This is high praise from him. We also all had dinner. My daughter-in-law had a multigrain salad with lemon dressing. My grandson pronounced the burger the best he had ever had. My granddaughter had a porchetta sandwich she absolutely loved. I had fried chicken with honey and mashed potatoes. Some of the better fried chicken I have had. Mashed potatoes were great. Other menu items looked interesting as well. We hope to try them in the future. Deserts were few but great. The brownie with ice cream was delicious. The strawberry shortcake had a shortcake that was like pita shell, but soft crispy both. The strawberries and whipped cream were inside. In speaking with the manger there is an Oktoberfest planned with special beers. Decor is almost non-existent. It looks like a converted warehouse with a garage door type opening onto the street. There is a large bar area separated from the restaurant if that's what you want. The bar was populated with couples while the restaurant had cross section of the community. Overall this a great place for a drink or dinner. Great for couples, families and whatever.

I love this bar

My favorite bar and restaurant in all of Irving Park. Great atmosphere, spacious, wonderfully prepared food and great people. I love this bar!

A Northwest side gem!

Delighted to find a brew pub in our area of the city, usually all the great places require a drive into the trendier neighborhoods. We went for brunch on Father's Day, made reservations and were quickly seated. Service was terrific, as was the food. Many families with little ones, and us with our 30 year old, hip vibe with fresh, well prepared food and I guess great beer, I had a daquiri which was made by someone who knew how to make a drink. Parked on a side street a few blocks away. Even on a day when they were pretty busy, all were on their "A" game. We'll be back!

Solid lunch

Went here over the Colombus day break for lunch. Got really lucky and were able to park right in front of the brewery! Seated quickly. They have a smaller menu of your traditional bar foods. My son went with wings, my daughter and I tried the BLTA. Food was really good - maybe just a tad pricey. Beer is excellent here - you can do flights of 3 or 6, or simply order tasters. I started with a 3-flight (Beezer, MaitaiPA, and Oktoberfest) - the MaiTaiPA was incredible, the other two very good. I followed with a taster of their Gluttonous Breakfast, which also was top shelf. The only drawback is they seemed way understaffed - by the time the noon hour hit, they really couldn't keep up with all the people there, so our time dragged on at the end. So as long as you aren't on a tight timeframe, definitely check this one out!

Bummer!

This was our second visit. On our first visit the spicy chicken sandwich and grilled octopus were superb. The Shioshitso peppers were the best we have ever had. On this visit the peppers were again outstanding as were the spicy chicken wings. However, my OIB burger which I ordered medium rare came out medium, dry and flavorless. My wife’s fish sandwich was over cooked and mediocre. Our friend ordered the special super nachos bowel. It was terrible. It was just nachos placed in a bowel instead on a plate. The incredients were poor and the amount on the plate sparse.- more chips than pulled pork, cheese etc. This for $14. By far the poorest nachos we have ever had. Quite disappointing. The three rating is only because the appetizers we’re outstanding. The rest of the meals were mediocre at best and abysmal for the nachos!

You Can’t Go Wrong

Nice stop as part of our Barrel Bus Tour, as we enjoyed both samples of their beers and some tasty appetizers. The food was great, we junked out on the fries, Mac n cheese and pretzels and all were delicious. Beer too was exceptional and the beer hall ambiance only added to the enjoyment, easily worth an extended return visit.

Good beer and eats......

Good place to eat and drink. Most breweries offer mediocre food but this place has a great combo. The beers were really good. They don’t offer any dark beers (well at least not on my recent visit) so that slightly disappointing BUT their light options were really good. All the tasters we ordered were tasty but the mango/peach and vacation were my favs. Be prepared to eat. Their portions are no joke. In fact, I ordered a steak salad, but it was more like a steak with a side salad. All good for me! I love me some food! Don’t forget to order the cheese curds! They are delish! We stayed near the Magnificent mile and took the L there. Was an easy hop from the red to the blue, stop at Montrose, then you just walk about five minutes out. BTW – we had the BEST waitress, but I forgot her name. You can’t miss her though. She’s EXTRA perky and so friendly. I think she had shoulder length hair and glasses. Would definitely come back.

You will not go away hungry

Our daughter, who lives near bye suggested we try Old Irving. There is a brew pub in the front and restaurant seating in the back. The brew pub beers were very tasty. We selected the fresh heirloom tomato salad and were amazed at how large the portion was and how well it tasted. The burgers and wings were large portions. We needed a box. Moderately priced, casual and a good deal for burgers and beer.

Amazing place, you have to visit!

I love IPA’s and here their selection was outstanding! Go try what they have, and try the tasters as you’ll maybe find new beers (eg double IPAs you didn’t think you’d enjoy). Also a very good menu. Had their special burger of the day which was outstanding. Staff very friendly too. Will definitely be returning next time I’m this side of Chicago.
