Good beer and pizza

By Ripper4 |

A great place to bring family and friends for fresh beer and good pizza. Other menu items are available. Fun for all!

Food was good, service just okay

By Julie D |

We were part of a large party of about 15 people. We ordered the garlic/cheese bread stix, a couple half salads, the sausage sandwich, a ham/pineapple pizza on gluten free crust, zeus & apollo pizza, bbq chicken pizza and the pepperoni madness calzone. Food was good and huge portions. The service could have been a lot better. Our server would come over for a couple minutes and then disappear for a long time. The place was busy so that could have been part of the problem.

Surprise Birthday Party

By John Warzynski |

Surprise birthday party, large group, live music. Plenty of free parking. Full bar, sports TVs, and shuffleboards. Pepperoni pizza is good, and the bone-in chicken wings were excellent. Teriyaki chicken and rice were boring, but good. Everyone had a great time at the birthday party. The service was good and friendly.

Want Beer?

By 03Val48 |

If you want beer, this is the place for you. They have a large selection. If you want heavy, fried food, buzz right in. If you love average service in a noisy, kind of dirty-feeling atmosphere, you'll love it here. And if you want to sit on a "patio" right beside a noisy street, you'll find no better.

an oasis in the middle of rampant ordinariness

By tiburondelnorte |

axually', my family goes here somewhat frequently -- for FOOD and beer and the kids can waste quarters at the arcade and hopefully not trip the waiters while everyone else decompresses. I believe they brew their own beer, and the food is more than merely adequate.

Not Going Back......

By Jared A |

I was on my own for dinner and decided to stop in to a new place. The hostess was friendly and the bartender was polite. I ended up sending my overcooked burger back to receive a new one that was just the same. The beef was bland, dry, rubbery, and hard to chew. At least the cook is consistent. - I am concerned the Fresh Ground Beef made inhouse is a sham. Both burgers I received were highly condensed patties that seemed to be compacted by a weight while cooking. I would have liked to see more than one slice of bacon on a $17 burger with adequate veggies. The bartender was very polite and my burger was remade ASAP. In the end I was not charged for the food. I left a $5.00 tip and almost took it back when I was leaving. After numerous apologies and excuses I had to say "It's best if I leave now. No amount of discussion is going to change the quality of the food here". A great atmosphere and good service doesn't make up for poor food quality. I went hungry for the rest of the night because my plans with friends didn't included eating a meal.

Return visit just as good

By Stew M |

We decided to hit Old Market again after about a year. We were seated outside in one of their huge picnic tables. Our waitress came right away and helped us with drink choices. We opted for a nice Porter and a hoppy red. Both beers were very good, cold and in the case of the porter, smooth. I chose the Oktoberfest special sausage, kraut and potato salad. My wife chose the gyro. Both came pretty quickly, hot and delicious. I was happy to have a German choice since we opted out of the Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel and the German place we looked at in Multnomah village looked too scary. The place should not be confused with nice...but the food is delicious with many choices; the beers that I have had at least have been delicious. Sad to see some of the pretentious dopes on yelp giving this place grief. This will be one of our go to places.

Expected so much more !

By Guinness44life |

Stopped in for a few pints and a bite to eat. Service was lackluster and so was their beer. Location is a little quirky but it has some charm.

Great Place for Family & Friends to Gather

By costaricatravel09 |

We hadn't visited here for a number of years so thought we would try it again. We sat outside and ordered the Four Gooey Cheese and Fresh Tomato Sandwich (wonderfully gooey and delicious) accompanied by sweet potato fries -there are several options for the side. We also ordered the Reuben which my spouse said was one of the best he had ever eaten (he loves his Reuben). We enjoyed the British Bombay Ale (their best seller) and the Mr Toad's Wild Red Ale - both ales were excellent. Our waiter, Peter, was friendly and efficient. All in all a great experience and we will return again.

Nice place to hang out.

By James W |

Great burgers and microbrews. Lots of screens for watching sports. Shuffleboard and pool tables in the back.

Beer good, food mediocre

By JWK7385 |

They brew their own beer is here, and it shows. They all are excellent microbrews and so much better than mass produced beer. Unfortunately, the food is a far lower quality than the beer. I had the small hamburger, which was a patty of questionable origin. It did not taste like beef, and it had a very strange texture. The food here used to be pretty good, but they changed the menu recently. I'd have a beer here, but save dinner for someplace else.

Great for Families

By Phidelt71 |

My family and I have visited many times and have always left happy. This past visit was no different. Good variety of food, good prices, and consistent service. I tried the gyro and was pleasantly surprised.

Husband loves their porter and stout!

By The Outsider |

Go during happy hour and you can find a variety of cheap eats. This is my husband's favorite place for getting a beer b/c not many places have the dark beers that he loves. I have tried different items from the menu but haven't found any that I love yet. Something is always off putting for my meals. There are several more items on the menu that I want to try so hopefully I'll find my favorite(s) soon. However, my husband has liked all of the items that he's had. The Old Market sits off of a major curve on Multnomah Blvd and it's hard to tell (until you get used to it) which entry to use. They make you enter where you would think should be the exit (in our opinion), so be careful and put on your blinker way ahead of time so you don't get rear ended trying to get into the parking lot. However, once you've made it safely in then have one of their home brew beers and relax.

Good stuff

By JILL S |

Got dinner to go since I just had a baby. Huge Greek salad and filled with deliciousness!! Italian sub was great and those fries.......those fries! Even in a “to go” order those fries!!

do not go on weekends unless you love unruly kids

By Portland_OROpushomes |

Food was fine. Parents who let their kids run wild are not. A restaurant that does not deal with the situation will never see our business again.

Memories of Irish Pub

By Mike M |

This is not high brow. It is down to earth, pub food, and beer. It is great for large groups and kids (the kids can be separated from those who don't want to hear them giggle). The sandwiches etc., are good and the service is efficient. It has everything that an Irish pub would have except for the fiddler. We go as an extended family and everyone is happy with it.

a nice hang out place, fun familyish interior but only average food though

By KweqSmanit |

a nice hang out restaurant brewpub.12 outside wooden picnic table style tables (with umbrellas) and wooden padded seating inside.antique-y style decorated interior with a back games room with pool tables, pinball games, and what appeared to be video poker.a side area off the main dining room as well has some table shuffleboard games.televisions abound in all areas for watching the big game including two at the bar. restrooms were clean when I was there and stocked and everything worked.staff was friendly enough in their service but only "average" on the service itself.menu was the basics, I had the barbecue pizza which was average, the caesar salad was "okay not great" said another person at my table, the beer was good but should have been more chilled, however it was a warm july so maybe it warmed quickly.

Relaxed pub and brewery

By Linda Z |

Food is very good with a nice variety offered. There are two pool tables and three nice shuffleboard tables which rent for $6.80/hr after 6 PM. There are two pinball machines. There is indoor seating along Multnomah Blvd so there is the sound of traffic or inside in booths and at tables. They brew their own beers and have 20 or so on tap! Wait staff is pretty efficient and friendly.

Great Neighborhood Hangout

By mjfilms |

Good size venue, usually never a big wait to be seated and lots of TVs to watch sports. Super friendly staff. Basic pub fair with a few surprises - their pepperoni pizza has the curled up and crispy meat slices - yum! The falafel is consistently quite good and delicious.

Small lunch stop

By Gerfsa |

Great selection of draft beer and mixed cocktails good service and menu is good and portions are generous. Try the Hot Tamale for sure an experience.

Good stuff! Yummy root...

By Ellen B |

Good stuff! Yummy root beer home brew!

Not bad

By Dave B |

I've come off and on over the years. This last visit, our server was really nice. My wife got pizza, which ended up quite greasy towards the end. I had beef au jus. Nice size with an inspired side condiment... Pickled celery which added a nice flavor to the sandwich. This place also has pool and is one of the only places in the area to have shuffleboard. Overall a no-frills place that's good to hang out and relax. It can be a tad noisy if theres a game on the tv.

Good onion rings

By Sabina S |

I hate onion rings that are so soft that when you bite in the onion pulls out of the coating. These thin crispy rings were just the ticket. Sports bars are not my first choice for a meal. This one had a bunch of screens but none of the noise. All but one was closed captioned

OK. Somewhat overpriced. Friendly but erratic service.

By pdxhej |

We've lived in the neighborhood for years and have been here numerous times. The food is OK. Nothing you won't eat, but very little to make you smile big. Happy Hour is not a bargain, period. Site-brewed beers are always fun to try, but they are also hit and miss. The staff is always friendly and courteous, but not necessarily good at what they do. The last time we were there three different servers came to our table to take our orders. The second two didn't notice the beers already sitting in front of us. They also need to do a better job of cleaning table tops and seats between customers. I would not avoid this place but it's far from the top of our list.

Outstanding Pub........

By Steve31262 |

Food is great and wide selection of beer - corn beef and rye is to die for - excellent burgers - usually a waiting line at the door.

Pleasant Visit

By Vegas Trippers |

Our server Angie was fantastic, greeting us soon after we sat down at a table outside. Showing up with waters without us asking and getting right to our beer orders. We had a Mr. Toads Wild Red, very malty and full bodied, and later a well crafted Pacific Porter and very well balanced NW style British Bombay IPA. Burgers came with kettle chips, so we chose to upgrade for $1 to tots and shoe string potatoes, a minor irritation. The Natural Burger with cheddar was cooked the way I asked and delicious. The Blackened Chicken Avocado, served burger style, was heavy on the "blackened" and as spicy as advertised. The reason for the rating is primarily due to the advertised "Happy Hour". It did not include a discount on drink prices, only a few food specials. What the heck man! This is a pub! if you are going to advertise a Happy Hour it's kind of expected drink discounts are part of the deal. Also, having to "upgrade" to fries seems kind of silly.

A Good Experience with Family

By Cindy F |

Plenty of large tables to accommodate families or groups of up to 12. $12 for a pulled pork sandwich???? With a little pork with your soft bun and shredded carrots /cabbage???? Oh yeah, an extra $2.25 for a very small cup of chili (tasty) that sounded like it came with the sandwich when ordering..."Fries, Tots or Chili?"

Great place for a bite & beer

By subithere |

Comfortable place with a good selection on their menu. Wine & beer. Near a nice neighborhood to walk off your ample meal.

Huge menu to choose from! Something for everyone!

By Love-Maui-101 |

We ate dinner here one evening after a ballgame. We sat outside as it was a very warm evening. We were a party of six and service was good. Something on the menu for everyone here plus good brews! Our group ordered a variety of items from burgers, pizza, a Rueben sandwich, sweet potato fries and Buffalo wings. Everything was good. Good for families. Rustic interior.

Expected better

By David S |

Atmosphere is a funky and bar is a uniquely decorated conversion from a market. Waitress was friendly too. However, the knowledge of the food served was missing. The reuben sandwich was corned beef and not pastrami as she indicated when we asked. Old rule...if you don't know....ask first. Only a couple thin slices of over-fried corned beef which made it tough. Bread was very hard and it being drenched in butter didn't help. Just a little bit of saurerkraut and practically no sauce made this one of the worst reuben's I've ever had. I do not believe it to be the most requested food item by customers as the waitress stated. The soup was tasty...Russian potato and mushroom. Yet, the hot butterscotch coffees were not hot, nor had much flavor. Disappointed.

Amazing Reuben

By Susan F |

Found this gem just by pulling off the highway. An amazing Reuben! Friendly service! Gotta give it a try!

Relaxing Sunday Breakfast & March Madness

By CESloan470 |

No wait on a sunny Sunday morning. Friendly service, a tasty basic eggs and bacon breakfast including a surprisingly good house made biscuit. Topped it off with bracket busting Michigan win over over Louisville. Glad to have Old Market in the neighborhood.

The golden ale is magical

By nchaffin |

Oh my goodness, this golden ale. So much flavor, balanced wheat and sweetness--I'd give it 5 stars alone. I did dock down a star because my salad had some wilted lettuce and a moldy tomato. It happens--especially when you're probably pulling stuff out of a plastic tomato container. However, that being said, the Caesar salad was fantastic. Lots of garlic, so be prepared. But they are known for that salad, so do it.

Good pub food

By georgecarolegross |

Old Market Pub has a gereat staff - very friendly and helpful. The beer is made right there, and Mr Toad's red ale is particularly tasty. The food id good pub food. The soups are homemade and change daily. Pizzas, sandwiches, and burgers are tasty with Tim's chips as a side. The buns and rolls are a good feature. No more fish and chips. I enjoy going there once a week after tennis.

A great local!

By N1978 |

Swung by here having moved to the neighborhood, and sank a brew and a burger. Great beer, good burger, good value. A great local bar for food, beer and sports! It seems to be very popular!

Open during Feb Blizzard!

By C1082FFjohnh |

Picked up family from airport after all the snow in Feb and was surprised to find them open. Good food and service, and good selection of beers.

Great neighborhood restaurant

By Sharyn M |

Really great neighborhood restaurant. Good, friendly service. We often have the onion rings, Greek salad, double hamburgers. And their lemonade is great!

Best Rueben sandwich EVER

By zadocsdaughter |

Casual dining ..knotty pine booths ..lots of tvs..but its not too loud..Great Food!! and the Rueben sandwich is (not only huge) but the best one we have ever had!!..we will now make this a regular stop every time we come to Portland.

Surprisingly Terrific Pizza

By Brian G |

Ordered their Pizza for the first time in July & got hooked". I've been there 3 times since then,...just to order one of their Pizza's. Truly delicious. Wait staff are really nice & playfully fun. My only complaint is with their beer pitchers,..they are on the small side (only about 3 1/2 pint glasses,...or less). Their water pitchers seem bigger, their beer pitchers need to be able to at least fill up 4 to 4 1/2 "full pint" glasses, not just 4 glasses about 80 -85% full. But that's it.

Great place for beer!

By Mikpar |

We just stopped here for beer with a group of people. Some had food, but we did not. There were a good assortment of beers, plus this was a place we had not been to.

Best Pizza and beer place I've been to in Portland, OR

By smajid |

Try spicy sausage Pizza paired with one of their many locally brewed beers like Multnomah Golden. Great sports bar feel.

Say what??

By Tracy T |

I have driven past this place for over two years and decided to stop in one night. First of all it is VERY "family friendly" (read: noisy with lots of kids). Clearly a family restaurant. I ordered a Belgian beer and was instantly out off by the yeast bitten beer. It was off. But not to worry, there was food to come. I was going for some barbecue, but settled for the falafel. Go figure. The falafel was good, but I would not say they actually served tzatziki with as much as some yogurt. That said, it was a decent falafel. Now the Cesar salad was a different matter: way to much garlic and dressing. But on the upside, they did use some form of anchovies, which of essential for a real Cesar. The have a good selection of home made beers on tap and the stout I had redeemed the Brewer! If you want average food and average bet where you can take your kids, this place is fine. But if you want to hear yourself think and are looking for something a little more refined there are better options in the area. Not my cup-of-tea (or more accurately, pint of beer) but I am certain there are many happy customers, based on the number of people (e.g noise level) in the restaurant. Happy dining!

Typical pub food...spacious, if a bit drafty

I won't be back ! : Food poisoning !

By KweqSmanit |

I was down in Portland again and I decided to try the Old Market Pub again for a second try. (Read first review earlier in the reviews) One of our party from our table had TERRIBLE food poisoning from the hummus here. Not only that we did not receive ANY kind of compensation or credit for our bad meal. No real apology was given and no phone call to discuss the food poisoning when I wrote them about it. And YES I know it was from here where it happened at.We thoroughly researched our day and everything we ate. I do not recommend eating here anymore and I will NOT be back. Bad waiter as well.

Yum!

By Holly L |

This was a great place we can't wait to go back! The spicy chili was the best I've ever had at a restaurant! The pizza was average but still good and was only 7.99 for an individual size during lunch. I also ordered a cocktail from the summer cocktails menu called "the refresher". I was very questionable about cucumber vodka but this drink made me want to go out and buy a bottle of it! Such a great summer cocktail! We didn't get to experience the shuffle board or pool tables but next time we return we will definitely be playing some games! Service was great as well :)

Local place

By Ben R |

This is our local bar/grill. Tons of space, good rotating taps with some guests. Food is solid. Pool, table top shuffle board and some game machines. TVs everywhere. Great event space in the back.

Interesting spicy beer

By Brian H |

My wife and I went here on our anniversary trip. The food was alright but nothing to write home about. The beers were good especially enjoyed while sitting outside on a nice afternoon. We tried their Hot Tamale beer. The free sample we got was fantastic but was definitely something I couldn't have done as a whole pint. The spiciness really hit me but it had great flavor.

Good Beer, good food and a good time with friends

By Stew M |

The Old Market Pub is located in a mature part of the hills west of downtown Portland. It isn't fine dining and isn't a place to go to see and be seen. With that said, we had a wonderful time there. It was a nice evening out and we were able to sit outside while we ate, drank and people watched. The beers were good, came quickly and were cold. The food was above average pub food covering choices from Pasta, pizza to sandwiches and burders. The inside looked pretty nice and was clean. Our server was attentive, friendly and checked on us often. There was a range of people there from families to younger folks dressed for a night out. We very much enjoyed our evening there and look forward to summer for another chance to sit outside and enjoy ourselved at Old Market

Great Beer, but lacking Vegan options

By Dave J |

Was here for lunch. Tried a couple of the beers - and they were really terrific. Portland and Oregon has really blossomed in the Craft Brew Movement, and this place is right up there with some of the best. I say this as a brewer myself. The menu is sadly lacking in non-meat options. There are lots of choices, but not much that doesn't involve meat of some kind. Didn't note any seafoods at all. Lots of meats, sausage, bacon.

Just okay

By kevinlS7705OO |

Menu needs some work unless you like to eat lots of bread.. Only 2 appetizers on menu both are a bread item. I would not eat here again. The people I was with said the beer selection was good but agreed on the menu it totally needs work. If your looking for a place to drink then this is the place if your looking for a place to eat I would not recommend.

Good food, more of a "bar" than a "pub"

By Leslie M |

Old Market Pub is very near our home, but we don't go there very often because we assume that the food is really heavy. So, if it's "bar" food you want -- their menu is extensive and very heavy on the fried -- and, sometimes that's JUST what you (and we) want! Last time we went on a weekday right after the lunch rush, and had the NICEST server I've encountered in a long time. I was feeling like I needed a good burger, but ended up with a small portion of the fish & chips. Excellent fish. And good sweet potato fries (but not quite as good as the S.P. fries at Buoy Beer in Astoria). If you're into the bar (excuse me, "pub") scene and want to spend a long evening trying out beers and watching sports TV, this should be a pretty good spot to try.

Great food and atmosphere

By mybroker1 |

Or party of 5 was seated and served immediately by a very friendly and helpful wait staff. The new their brew and made excellent food recommendations. I will likely eat there again next time I'm in town.

The food here was bad. I was beyond disappointed.

By daniel t |

I hate to have to say NO to a local restaurant, but the Old Market has earned it by simply serving bad food which they are proud of for some reason. I might try again to see if it was a one time experience, but I can also see from the many dissatisfied customer reviews (especially on Yelp) that what I got was likely the norm rather than the exception. I ordered pizza and Caesar salad via GrubHub and was sorely disappointed with both, plus my stomach churned all next day.

Late Night Hunger Attack: Cravings Quenched!

By L.W. |

Well, It was a couple of days just after Christmas, and we had just gotten back from The Festival of Lights and Choirs at The Grotto (please see my Recent Review of That-! ). Since they only had a skeletal foodie place there and We needed something sustaining , and it was past 10 pm when we got out, I searched my smartphone to find a place open that late--found out Shari's was there and headed toward it. Stumbled upon this place first and decided to go in and check it out, and it seemed pretty cool and the Menu looked good. I got the small Ceasar and hubby got the Heart Attack Maple Bacon burger. He gave me 1/3rd of his burger and I gave him 1/3rd of my salad, we drank water (though the beer sounds really good if you like it); the staff was very kind and helpful, though they could tell right away we weren't drinkers. It had pinball and other games, + pool tables in another room. A loud raucous party was going on in one of the other room , and I checked it out on my way to the bathroom--just a bunch of woman having fun with the games and celebrating a birthday--and yelling at the top of their lungs when they won (must be Good Beer, Lol!) Glad we stumbled upon this place with a little of Portland History for a late night Hunger Attack--assuaged by Ceasar salad and Heart Attack special ; )

Good food, good beer

By glinda1 |

Spouse & I ate & drank there after about a five-year absence & had a wonderful time. The patio was full ( 2 pm on a beautiful day) so we had a window seat. Noise level was high at first, then kind of quieted down. Service was a bit on the slow side, but we were in no hurry. We ordered the beer sampler, sausage pizza, and chili nachos, then added a pint of our favorite suds--Pacific Porter (coffeeish and chocolatey) and Hop On (really, really hoppy). Mr. Slate's Gravelberry is a nice clean raspberry brew, too. Food was fine. It was a nice afternoon for a couple of us seniors.

Great beer

By tdw295 |

Happy hour daily with very good prices. Micro brewed beer was excellent!! A great place to check out.

Best French Fries in town

By GaryG793 |

The beer battered fries are hot and crispy and delicious. The many varieties of beer are all good. I especially like Mr toad's wild red. The hop on is great also. They have outdoor seating on nice days and it is off the street, so the gas fumes are not too bad. The are many high def screens for watching sports and the place is packed on big game nights. All the sandwiches are tasty especially the pita with vegetables and the traditional reuben. The pizza is also first rate. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but we are not usually in a hurry when we go there.

Will visit again

By Sabrina L |

We loved the food, atmosphere, staff, and of course, the brews! We sampled many of the beers, and enjoyed all of them. My son devoured the grilled cheese and my husband and I had some wonderful appetizers. We will definitely visit again if we are ever in the Portland area.

Soggy chips, limp pickle and lousy service

By Luvgreatdeals |

I called ahead and ordered a Reuben Sandwhich. After working all day I was looking forward to getting a treat, taking it home to enjoy and relax. Instead I was not greeted, asked how I could be help ed, or acknowledged as a customer. It is not clear where to pick up a to go order and nobody assists you. You stand around waiting by the bar feeling like you are in the way. When someone finally talked to me I was given the wrong order. Had I not been hungry I would have left then. Instead I waited again to get my sandwhich which I finally got and left upset. I got home with a cold Reuben, soggy chips and a limp pickle. In summary the service was lousy and the food disappointing. With all the brew pubs to choose from in the area this place needs to step it up big-time. Will not be back anytime soon to see if they do.

Good

By Travelfunwhynotu |

Great place to watch games they have TVs all over. The food is really good with a lot of choices. The service has gotten much better recently which is why I would recommend it. Also they have very good beer they brew themselves. Good for all ages.
