Dinner

By Ami G |

This restaurant is so much fun! Decorated like an old saloon. Awesome steaks and escargot! During dinner, a girl dressed in old west attire gets on a swing above the bar and swings herself until she can ring a cowbell on the ceiling with her foot. The bread and cheese they bring to your table is so good! Definitely for special occasions.

Real nice restaurant

By William M |

I believe this restaurant is for tour busses only. There were two groups there the night that we went. It is a very nice atmosphere including table cloths on the tables. We had a salad, choice of 3 meats and a very nice desert. Everything had a good taste, good portions and the service was excellent. This is a very good place for a large group.

Wonderful Experience!

By j s |

Food was outstanding- as great as we remembered from years ago. At our table, we had steaks and Chicken Piccata. All were wonderful and reasonably priced for all the food you get.. All entrees came with a salad and choice of 2 sides- of course all followed the wonderful cheese block first brought to the table. Can't find this deal at "big name steakhouses". The talented pianist was too loud for table conversation, but after requesting he play a little more quietly, we could talk and enjoy his music at the same time. More people need to rediscover this gem!

Fantastic Eveining

By Andy426669 |

We visited this restaurant and a very great eeveing. The hot bread and swiss cheese served at the start of the eveing was great. The salads had a great presentation and were cold and crisp. The salad dressing was full of chunks of blue cheese. My wife had the whole trout which she claimed was amazing. I had the Premium 8 oz filet and it was one great steak, excellent taste and cooked to perfection. Our waitress Anastacia was very professional and friendly. The music was very nice and the girl in th swing was very good. The chef Edward came to our table to check on our food and was very firendly and caring. He suggested that we try a desert. We told him we didn't really need any. He suggested the cheesecake which he makes fresh in the resstaurant. He brought us a small sample of two kinds that were absolutely wonderful.

Wedding

By aterr |

We recently had our wedding here and a simple review is not enough to show how phenomenal the staff did at this venue. Aside from this venue being absolutely stunning. The food from Delicious Catering exceeded everyone’s expectations. My wedding guests were far from satisfied, they went on and on about how amazing the food was. The staff was professional, quick, helpful, and simply on top of it. This wedding planning could not have gone more perfectly without the help from Gina Salazar. She was quick to respond all my emails and answer all my calls full of questions. And the actual reception went so smoothly, so romantically and was accommodating at all costs thanks to Brian. He helped make sure everything was coordinated according to schedule and was on top of everything. He was never overbearing and was available any time we needed him. Thank you Brian and Gina, true MVP’s for our wedding. Old San Francisco is perfect for any special occasion. And the best part is you pay less than you would anywhere else considering the venue basically comes with EVERYTHING. Thank you guys. Truly.

Although a dated decor, food was enjoyed by all

By ChinggisKhaan |

The decor and the swinging waitress in fish-net stockings are quite dated but to my surprise the food was actually quite good and surpasses the kitschy ambience. It seems that sticking to the things they do best, namely steaks in straightforward preparations, is the best bet. My filet mignon was of good quality and cooked perfectly. The baked potato and green bean sides were good and the steakhouse wedge salad was excellent. Portions were generous and no room was left for dessert.

Wedding's reception

It really a good place to celebrate a wedding, food was so good and bathrooms are clean, and the photo boot was awesome the girl was so friendly

Amazing place!

By ecrost84 |

This place is awesome, great food, good drinks, swinging girl over the bar. Best escargot I've ever had in my life hands down. Steak is superb. The atmosphere is incredible, the decor is from another time, cozy and comfortable. Very nice place and expensive but always worth it. Great for parties whether personal or business.

Bus Tour Stop

By Apopka1564 |

This place is only open for private parties. Our bus tour stopped here for supper. The food was fair but the Ice Tea was Fabulous and the best tea I have ever tasted. I had the Angus Chopped Steak with a mushroom wine sauce over it. I liked the steak but I did not like the sauce over the steak at all. If you order the steak, order it plain. The decor of the restaurant was interesting; there was a swinging girl over the bar area and staff and servers were nice, polite, and very attentive. The dessert I had was a lemon bar that was stale and very hard to cut. The mash potatoes and the vegetable medley was quite tasty. This place was able to accommodate lots of people at one time as there were 3 bus loads of people having dinner at the same time.

A Once in a Lifetime Type of Thing

By Meso R |

Tried this one out and it was so-so. Food was not bad but not memorable, not really "special" in terms of flavor or plate design. The atmosphere is interesting. Building shows its age well. The service was not bad......everything was sort of in the middle and very average. Price was sort of on the high end for what you get. Would not go back, but it is worth going once just to experience the whole package.

Great decor for events

By Shannon K |

This again was a planned stop on our bus tour. We thought it was a regular restaurant, but it appeared more like an event center since it was closed on the day we were there. Water and table service was beautiful but we were crowded in the tables. I will say there were at least 2 busses there at the same time. Our orders were taken ahead of time when we booked the trip. There was a chicken, tilapia, ground beef steak, and vegetarian pasta. Salad was also sitting out the table upon arrival along with a choice of dressings. Staff was great about quickly clearing the tables and then a short wait for the main meal. The desserts were also on the table ahead of time, which many of us picked at or ate entirely as it looked delicious. A pastry puff with a cinnamon and powered sugar on top filled with lite cream and raspberry Jan with a blackberry on the side. I chose the ground beef steak without the burgundy sauce. It looked like a huge meatball when it arrived with veggies on the side. Honestly, it was kinda good, but it gave me heartburn all night. On top of that, they kept bringing the wrong plates even with asking us several times what we ordered. They did bring refills on drinks on a regular basis.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR $$$$$$$$$

By KELLY385678 |

Sorry folks but this place needs to keep the doors closed. The service was very good but the food was less than average. The steak was not tender and lacked flavor. The baked potato was not done all the way.Now I know why the parking lot was empty. To top it off when we get the bill (just two of us) they decided to add the TIP. Well where I come from the TIP is base on service. We talked to the assistant manager( he was great) and retrieved the manager( the cook) and the cook didn't really care to here about what we were saying. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK !!!! I don't even want to rate this but I have to so I can post this!!!

Private Parties Only Now

By Patti B |

It's unfortunate that this amazing restaurant is open only for private parties now. Dining at the Old San Francisco Steak House was a rare treat when I was a child. In 1977, I held my wedding rehearsal dinner there. The marriage was a disaster, but the quality of the food never disappointed. The only reason I didn't give this remarkable restaurant an Excellent rating is because I can't eat there anymore. But if you have a chance to book an event there, you'll love the food and the atmosphere.

Like a visit to an old western saloon

By daisy41 |

We were with a bus group when we dined here. The meal choices were good and the food delicious. The atmosphere was just plain fun. The swinging young lady was entertaining. A couple of our folks got up on the swing - didn't do very well, but it was sure fun to watch them try. The whole experience made for a very pleasant evening.

NOT a restaurant. Available for Private parties only (I believe). AMAZING FOOD.

By DN |

We attended an event hosted by the University. We had no idea what a wonderful place the Old San Francisco Steakhouse really was until we were inside and seated. My goodness, the room we were in was just BEAUTIFUL. It had chandeliers, windows as walls, a waterfountain outside. It was decorated nicely and very tastefully. The Salad was great. The presentation was wonderful and the taste was even better. The main dish was chicken stuffed with a Philadelphia cheese and herbs mix with a side of mash potatoes (heavenly) and grilled vegetables. The desserts were either chocolate mousse or an apricot pastry. Both were absolutely exquisite. I did not find out it was not a restaurant anymore until the end of our dinner, when we were informed by the manager that it was only available for events. So, if you are looking for a place for your next event, look no further.

OMG the best in town...

By Angela F |

We went to this restaurant based on trip advisor reviews. This was by far the best dinner of our whole trip. The girl on the swing was tasteful and they let our kids get on the swing as well. The place was sllow, but the food was amazing. The bread and swiss cheese before dinner was great. I had the filet Oscar my husband the sirloin. The kids had pasta dishes off the adult menu even though they have a kids menu to pick from. All dinners were great and desert was excellent. We had cherries jubilee made table side. Drinks included the malbac martini. We will come back over and over. Give this place a try and don't think twice about this option. Some of the reviews say this place is dated, but I would call it classic. Perfect as can be.

Great For Our Tour Bus

By Dolores W |

The food was good but, figured on a steak house the bus tour would have offered that. Surprise they didn't. The food was good and hot and big portions. They seated us quickly and served pretty fast. So all in all a good place.

just above average food

By Julie E |

I ate there two weeks in a row. The food is good, but not special. Maybe the lemon tarts are terrific, but not the food in general. The decorations throughout the building are interesting. The waitstaff is well trained and considerate.

What a waste of time

By AndrewS_67 |

My wife and I decided to try the Old San Fransisco Steak House as it had been years since we went there. It was a Saturday night and as we pulled up the lot was full. We went in side and were told that due to remodeling they were only having private parties. That didn't seem to make much sense, but oh well. I can't understand why a restaurant would have its big sign illuminated and parking lot full but not be opened for business. It was a bit AWKWARD though. Too bad as I had fond memories.

Need better selections

By Sandy H |

I was here for a professional luncheon, since this is now a private venue. We had chicken with a bean/pepper/corn salsa over it, a squash and carrot medley and mac & cheese. I did not eat the salsa nor the squash/corn. The chicken was overcooked. The mac & cheese was the best part of the meal. Dessert was red velvet cupcakes with whipped cream topping. Unfortunately, the cupcakes were stale. Advice to kitchen staff: please step up your game. It is irritating to pay good money for food that is not appealing.

Better than Ever!!! We had the best time there!

We made our reservations on line at www.theoldsanfrancisco.com and were greeted by name by a very beautiful "Swing Girl" named Shelly. She was so warm to our children and made us feel special as she sat us in the Main Dining Room. We were greeted by our server, Ross, who invited us to try one of the Steakhouses Signature Drinks. We had "Texas Sunset Swirls" and really enjoyed the delicious and colorful drinks. To our surprise, we were given a souvenir glass each with the Swing Girl logo on the glass to take home with us. We were really taken by how good the restaurant looked and the ambiance we experienced. The music was superb, a mix of swing and contemporary Jazz and the service maintained a balance of Friendly and Professional. Ross was very knowledgeable and was able to recommend the perfect steak to me, the Cowboy Cut Ribeye and my Wife LOVED her Filet au Poivre. We had a stellar California Cabernet which we were informed came from an Organic Vineyard. It was the perfect pairing with our entrees. The kids ordered off of the Childrens' Menu and we were pleased to see that the Kids' plates looked like real restaurant food in presentation and quality. We were thrilled to see that both the Service and Food definitely exceeded our expectations! As far as I could tell, they have maintained all of the old traditions like the Big Blocks of cheese on the table and the "Girl on the Red Velvet Swing." The Swing Girl Shelly took us on a tour of the property and we discovered the amazing Crystal Room. We had no idea that this property had a 200 plus seat Atrium-Style Ballroom complete with Palm Trees and Waterfalls! This room is stunning! We can't wait for our Anniversary so that we can throw a party here! To top off our evening, Ross prepared the classic Bananas Fosters for us table-side. What a touch! We will definitely be back and we hope the San Antonio Locals give this Iconic Steakhouse a try. They will not be disappointed!

Banquet Food

By Richdeni |

The name is deceiving as it is no longer a steak house but has groups for a specific meal. It is banquet food but good banquet food. You cannot expect gourmet.

Excellent food & beautiful location

Great spot for our class reunion dinner. All food was excellent. Full bar and a really nice dance floor ( a must for our class!).

Old is the Key

Old restaurant that needs an upgrade. Lady still swinging away over the bar. Food is good but many other good steak houses in SA. Sorry guys but used to really like this place.

Private event

By ARExplorers |

It is not open to the public. You can only book for private events. The facilities are good for business meetings or special dinners or events. There are a variety of different sized rooms. The food is decent. They do have the ability to provide a bar if your event requires it.

My daughter's 18th birthday party was a big hit; love this place!

By Dave E |

We had my daughter's birthday party here in the Crystal Ballroom. It was perfect! The room is beautiful. The staff was so friendly and kind and met our every need. The food was scrumptious and prepared very well. We had the chicken entrée...wow! Thanks to all the staff from the planners to the staff. You made our daughter and our family and friends so happy!! You guys are amazing!

Mediocre Meal Mediocre service.

By Gwinginit |

We have had many outstanding meals and service at the Old San Francisco Steak House. Not tonight. This is my first visit since they went to an event facility. It was not a move that would cause me to come back. The service was slow and non personal, a far cry from days past when the room was packed with diners that received excellent service and food. The salad was fresh and crisp but the only choice of dressing was ceasar. The vegtables were tasty and the strong point of the meal. the Steak was toughest tasteless filet mignon that I have ever had. all in all an unsatisfactory dining experience. Longing for days past when the Old San Francisco Steak House was very pleasant dining experience.

The glory of the past is gone.

By Michael R |

The first time I ate at the Old San Francisco Steak House was in 1970. It made quite an impression on me with the girl in the swing and the blig block of Swiss cheese. 41 years later, there is still a girl in the swing and a big block of Swiss cheese and it is pretty much the same except the quality of the food was a disappointment. The thrill is gone. Too bad. I don't think this place is going to around too much longer because business on a Friday night was really slow. I don't think I would ever go back again.

Amazing!!

Absolutely my favorite places!! Beautiful building, awesome food & service top notch!! Highly recommend this place!! Great for any event!! Friendly & Professional for sure!!

good staff and average food

By michigan193 |

We ate here, along with 3 other buses from Diamond Tours. Before we came here we had to choose an entree from a list which was beef, Tilapia, or chicken. Based on comments at our 10 person table, only the chicken was considered good. The wait staff was great, and the signs on the wall were fun to read. The shelves with photos of people like Wyatt Earp, Jesse James, etc., which is located near the bathrooms is worth seeing.
