Excellent ambiance, excellent food, and outstanding service!

By Karenfan |

When looking around Atlanta for a place to host a work dinner, it is always difficult to find nice, appropriate places. Some of the high end restaurants are loud (concrete floors and bright surfaces that make conversation impossible), or so busy that even with a reservation you might have to wait a long time. The Old Vinings Inn was truly a great find for us! There is a small private room available on some nights and it is amazing. Our waiter, Drew, who is also the bartender, was attentive and knowledgeable. The cocktails were the best, and the food selections outstanding. Members of our party ordered the filet, the trout, the short ribs, the pork chop, etc. It was all amazing! I recommend the bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer and the chocolate cherry bread pudding for desert! The owner even came up more than once to make certain we had everything we needed and that our food was prepared as expected. THIS is how you run a restaurant. Forget about the in-town busy, loud, places and come here! You won't be disappointed!

Decent service and good food

By MASTERPC |

Came here for a relative's surprise birthday party. Fixed menu inclusive of fried green tomatoes, a choice of crab cakes Benedict, shrimp and grits or banana & hazelnut chocolate French toast with rustic potato hash, turkey sausage and cheddar grits (yummy) as sides. Nice venue. Service was attentive.

Rushed

We are new to VInings and we were hoping to find our new favorite spot. It is quite charming in appearance from the outside. When we made our reservations we advised them that it was our first anniversary dinner and asked for a romantic table. We were seated in the center of the room with no acknowledgment of our special occasion. We ordered a bottle of wine and an app. to share. When the app arrived we ordered our entrees. The entrees arrived before we finished our single shared app. We were finished with our entire meal before we had finished our first glass of wine! We lingered for a bit but felt so uncomfortable that we grabbed our wine and headed to the up stairs bar.

Wonderful service & DELICIOUS food! Kudos to the new owner!

I had a first date here this evening and we were very impressed with how amazing the owner was in regard to very personalized service. Absolutely wonderful experience, the scallops are amazing, the apps are amazing, you can't go wrong

Delicious, upscale southern food

By 3x5 |

Old Vinings Inn is a quaint, charming restaurant with delicious food. Their fried chicken is the best and so are their fried green tomatoes. We had excellent service and a small room to ourselves which was great for a party of 8. The price was reasonable and valet parking a plus. We will be back!

Excellent Mid-week Dinner

By sc457mike |

My wife and I were in Atlanta mid-week on personal business and were close to Old Vinings Inn which we had visited many years previously so we decided to have a date-night. The restaurant was almost empty on a Wednesday at 6pm and we were promptly met and seated. We had excellent service throughout the evening. My wife started with the fried green tomatoes and I had the fish stew, which was mainly shellfish in a broth. Both were very good - but next time I would also order the fried green tomatoes because the romoulde sauce was very tasty. I ordered the trout and my wife had the scallops - both were excellent.

Very good Southern food

By MeraKi25 |

Great place to get some classics- grits, collard greens, etc, but they also have a few great surprises, like the lobster Mac and cheese appetizer. Omg is this good. Moderately priced $18-$30 per entree, and the server and greeter were both wonderful. The only issue I can mention is that the private party was extremely loud, and there was really no way to control the noise. Prob a great place for after work cocktails!

Worth checking out

By EMMYKAY |

Try the pork chop. Excellent. I had crab cakes that were very nicely done also. Our new romantic date location. I wish we could eat late enough to stay for the live music, but apparently we're old and prefer to sleep. Cute venue. Quarters were a little cramped, but they try to make it a pleasant atmosphere. Parking is horrible and they know it, but do what they can with valet to try to make it bearable. Server was very pleasant. Drinks came promptly and meal arrived in reasonable time.

A Pleasant Evening

By redneckersson5 |

We visited for dinner on Sunday evening. Given the weather, we very much enjoyed sitting outside. While the porch is relatively close to the road, the constant traffic on the road even on a Sunday, did not intrude. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. My wife had the port wine braised short ribs--if you like ribs, do NOT hesitate--order. I had the Lamb lollipops. I was very disappointed. The dish did not have much taste. I often use the preparation of lamb and duck as my guides to restaurants. In this case, the short ribs are outstanding, the lamb---well, I would not recommend it. .

Arrived for a party and it was amazing!!! Rick at the bar was on point and the servers Victoria and Kelly were so attentive. The owner lee was out and even catered for us. The food was on point and so were the drinks. This is a must for the vinings area.

Fun spot for dinner & live music

By MaeRodgers |

It's hard to find venues for the middle aged group, but this is a great spot. Delicious dinner with great service, but a little pricey. After dinner head upstairs to small bar and live music. Great place to meet up with friends.

Quaint Inn

By Navigator57712881851 |

We had brunch today at this quaint inn (built in late 1800's) for our anniversary. This is the best restaurant I have visited in the Atlanta area. In historic city of Vinings, GA. Our waiter, David, was so genuinely friendly. The manager, Lauren, is also genuinely friendly. She is a history major and we talked about the historic inn. It is wonderful that we have this inn to visit as so many historic buildings are being torn down due to cost of upkeep. This one remains and I appreciate its history. This old inn is a treasure that deserves supporting. Historical value, really good food. Since there are many people who do not have enough food in this world, I refuse to pick apart food that is served to me anywhere. I am happy to have enough to eat. My crab cake was the best I have had anywhere and eggs benedict also. Thanks to the owner of this inn for maintaining a part of history for us to visit. Down to earth, genuine in every way. Thanks Vinings Inn, for a really pleasant experience for my anniversary!

Hard to beat

Service is always right on. Food this evening was also right on Place has a ton of character Talk with owner if there is something you don't like. He will take care of it Valet parking worth every penny. Tip the guy well. Bartender also a funny guy

Wow what a disappointment

By Richard R |

I was visiting friends in town and they selected this restaurant. I was really looking forward to it because I heard good things. Both the food and the service were disappointing. I had the crab cake or should I say the bread crumb cake. I think that they forgot the crab. My friend had the French toast which they finished do they must have enjoyed it. The waitress seemed very inexperienced. She interrupted quite a bit and then starting clearing the table while we were still eating. I would not recommend this restaurant.

everything was okay

By Anne M |

We had dinner at the Old Vinings Inn and maybe our expectations were too high. It seemed they could not get anything together. One appetizer then the other persons. The potato and celery root bisque was just potato bisque that was lukewarm. Then the bread. Then the dinners - one had to go back as it was cold. My shrimp and grits was okay. It had more onions than shrimp. Our server was Julia or better known as "chatty cathy". We know more about her life than I would ever want to know about our server. We like children and have several grandchildren but we do not think children should be allowed to run around in a restaurant. While it is up to the parents to control the children, management could ask parents to at least keep them at the table or maybe in the same room. Or maybe out of the way of the servers. There were several near accidents! As this restaurant is in an old house, it is not safe for children.

Dinner alone

By Jeff |

If you drive up and gasp that it's in an old house, leave. Otherwise you'll have a very nice time. Good was good. Service fine. And location in Vinings is very cute. Probably not a place for a business group type dinner unless it was informal in nature and/or you were looking for something rustic/cute/cottage ish. Very much a couples type dinner place or small wedding reception/rehearsal dinner type atmosphere. I could see bringing my mom here for dinner.

Great for Brunch

By Tiburon09 |

I had not been for quite a while but went for a nice Saturday Brunch with a good friend. We both had Bloody Marys and the fantastic Shrimp and Grits. Excellent. Michael, our server, was very good, attentive, but not smothering. The atmosphere is still wonderful and the new owner came by to talk to us and was very welcoming. The valet was very professional and brought us our keys to the table as we closed the place! Wish we did not have to pay $4.00 for bread! Will definitely be back soon.

Mom's day brunch

By dustmon |

This is actually right in the middle of Vinings, at the traffic light with Paces Ferry, but dont go down the driveway at the light---it is a few feet east into their parking lot which is valet and very small. The Mothers Day brunch was delicious including (meats) lamb, roast beef, Springer Mt chicken, poached salmon and more with homemade chocolates and bread pudding for dessert....$35 per person was reasonable, but dont think I should have been charged for a glass of iced tea(!). The "brunch bloody mary" was reasonable at $7---Pleasant wait staff if a little ditzy at times. Mom loved it and thats all that matters, right? Total for four was $170 before tip.

No Return Visit

By Rosson45 |

The ONLY item worth having was the “Dip Duo” which was very tasty. The rest of the meal was unremarkable and service was awful. The noise level made conversation impossible n

Dinner for 2

By Todd P |

Were we're met at the front door by the owner. After a nice greeting went upstairs to the attic bar. Drinks are quick to come along with the candied bacon app Last night special swordfish was really good. Along with the scallops Didn't stay for the music But it is always great

Another bad experience!!!

By Mmitchel |

I have been a fan of Old VInings Inn for many years but at this point I have to take it off my list. We were greeted by young unprofessional staff who appeared really disorganized. We were taken to a table and directly in front of our table was a huge roach that had been smashed on the floor. I called it to the attention of the staff and asked for a table in another room. Unfortunately, a live roach ran across our table on our last visit. I ordered the Crawfish & Black Eyed Pea Fritters appetizer with a side of poached eggs for my meal. The fritters came out well before the eggs. When I cut into the fritters they were so raw the batter ran into the plate. They tried to deliver other tables food to our table 2 times and when our food arrived they had no idea who ordered what. This should be a great neighborhood restaurant in the heart of the Vinings Village and it is unfortunate that it is so poorly managed.

Not rushing back

By tlwld |

We had heard good things about this restaurant, so we went for a date night and were disappointed. While we witnessed many of the waiters around us being attentive and nice, ours was flighty and rude. Our food was good, but I found a piece of ceramic plate mixed in with mine... It was a bit on the pricey side for the quality.

It's so Southern and so good.

By Connie S |

We've been dining at Old Vinings Inn for years as a couple and for business dinners as well. Food is consistently delicious.

Still Wonderfull !!

By Lynn R |

We had not been to Old Vinings Inn in several years. My wife selected it for day One of her Birthday Week Celebration. We met another couple there for dinner. They have valet service so parking is a breeze. The manager greeted us at the door and gave my wife the royal birthday welcome. He allowed her to pick the table by walking around. We were seated immediately. Our waitress came right over and took our drink order. She came back several times as we were still catching up with our friends and never quite ready. I had the house salad and shrimp & grits as my entree. My friend had the same. The ladies had lamp "lolly pop" ribs and the chop chop salad. The presentation was wonderful. The meal was even better. I had forgotten how tasty the shrimp & grits is. It is a large portion brimming with interesting tastes. Truly one of the best shrimp & grits I have ever had. This entree is always on the menu. While I did not taste the lamp chops they were extremely enticing and the ladies said they were very delicious. With so many restaurant choices in Atlanta, I had forgotten about the Old Vinings Inn. I will not wait so long to return.

Neat old house in vinings

By golfer082 |

Went here on a Saturday night to listen to live music in the upstairs attic. Was a warm night but air conditioning cools it down some. Small outside porch is neat and you can watch the local traffic drive past the inn. We had a couple of appetizers, they were a little overpriced but good quality. If you want a neat place to catch some local music, this is a great spot.

Bravo!

By TripTipDad |

We returned to the Old Vinings Inn and it was even better than before. First, a note on the greeting. What a warm and lovely way to start the evening. Being met with a smile and appreciation that we'd chosen to come in is a rareity these days. Here, they take the time to actually welcome you. The cheese board. Wonderful. The filet? Cooked perfectly. The pork chop? To die for. Salads? Fresh and fantastic. Dessert? If you've ever read any of the stuff I've written, you know that I'm not a fan of dessert at most establishments because it's an expensive and usually disappointing end to the meal. NOT here. Get the brownie. Please. I beg you. Bring an nsulin pump if you have to, but order it. Savor it. Value: It's good. Like every restaurant these days, prices are high, but here, we think worth the cost. Service: Excellent. Just super nice, efficient, and knowledgable. Well trained folks who excel at making you feel appreciated and that they really want you to enjoy you experience. We loved this outing, and we will be back, frequently I think, as it's just a charming place to dine. We did not head to the upstairs attic area, but we will. It's a fun spot and so worth making an evening of, we cannot recommend enough.

Worst Service!

By mlk676 |

I came here last night for a Christmas party with a few business associates. The server was borderline rude and had no personality or manners and kept interrupting us while we were talking. The food was good and the drinks were good, but this was by far the worst service I have ever had. At the end of the evening, another server/staff member came to take the payment and reached over the table and directly in front of my coworker and did not excuse himself at all. Then, to top off the night, they turned the lights off on us! I have never had such awful service at an establishment. I understand it was the end of the night and everyone wanted to go home, but that is part of your job to give the best customer service until the last customer leaves, regardless of what time it is. I worked in food service in college and that type of attitude would get a staff member fired. No wonder this place is no longer an "it" spot to go. The only good service I had that night was from the valet. I will not be spending my money here in the future. There are plenty of other places in Vinings that offer better food and MUCH better service.

WOW ! What a meal !!! SUNDAY SUPPER

By RWinzie |

I am on the email list for Old Vinings Inn. Tonight, Sunday .. They had a special meal. I am very impressed with the talents of the chef! The Seafood Boil was a incredible appetizer !!! It was served in a small cast iron pot .. With an flavor profile of being over a wood fire. The flavor of the shrimp in it were to die for. I just got back from Cape Cod and nothing I had there matched his dish! The trout was beautifully prepared. I do not have a large appetite so I will save one half of the trout for lunch. Did I mention the rolls .. I know ... Over kill ... But. When they are this good, you just have to try them.. Let me describe them ... They arrive at the table in a basket covered by a napkin. HOT ...glazed and glistening ( from the light coat of butter ) ... Not to worry there is whipped butter on the side ... As for desert ... I combined the carrot cakecarrot cake with coffee. I have included the email that caught my attention and got me to dinner tonight. : Sunday Supper Tonight! Make your dinner reservation tonight! We will offer our sensational seasonal dinner menu and our spectacular Sunday Supper feature – 2 complete three course dinners for $40. Tonight's Sunday Supper Menu: Appetizer - (1) Seafood Boil, mussels, shrimp, calamari, corn, potatoes, okra, slow tomato, savory beer broth, grilled bread (pictured) Entrée - (2) Pecan Mountain Trout, brussel sprout sauté, rich brown butter (pictured) Dessert - (1) Carrot Cake, whipped vanilla cream

Thanksgiving Treat

By Teresing |

My sister and I went to The Old Vinings Inn today for the Thanksgiving buffet. The food was delicious and plentiful, but the service was outstanding! When the host saw that I was using a walker, he made sure that we were seated at one of the tables closest to the food. Our server, Sherrie, offered to get my food for me. She kept us well supplied with beverages and was quick to remove our used plates. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and hope to go back soon.

Very Disappointed on Thanksgiving

By dianeandlarry |

VERY disappointed on Thanksgiving. I have been here many times in the past when I lived closer, both for lunches and dinners. It has always been superb. Not this time, not even close. So many places blame things on short staffing but that was not the issue yesterday. Basically, the issue was food. We were 4 people. 2 appetizers were very good, the bacon and pimento cheese. That was it. 1 of the salads delivered was not the one ordered, but we were charged the upgrade. We had 2 turkeys and 2 chicken orders. The chicken breasts were a little dry and un-remarkable. My veggie sides were very good. However, my turkey was dry, and had a tiny of drizzle of gravy. The turkey could have been salvaged if there had been more and decent gravy. My husband's dinner was a mess. He ordered turkey and sides of potatoes & cornbread dressing. His dish came with burned and dry cornbread dressing that looked like it was scraped from the pan bottom, and veggies instead of the potatoes he ordered. The server returned, eventually when we were half done eating, with dressing and potatoes. Potatoes were dry with nothing on them, no butter, no gravy, and 1 very small partly full metal condiment holder with thin gravy, you know the small size. At the time the server went to get his potatoes & dressing, I also asked for some gravy. That was forgotten. Also forgotten was a refill of my coke and an order of 1/2 bottle of wine, those requests were made at 2 separate times. I do mean forgotten, because when I mentioned those things, the server did not remember them being ordered. After I explained what had been requested earlier, the server just turned to get those items, again, eventually. Not even an apology. The desserts were not good, either. My son liked his cherry tort, but the bread puddings were all dry and, therefore, tasteless. I asked for an exchange for the tort, which was tiny and not very good, either. And the whipped cream tasted like runny cake frosting. A very nice man was stopping at tables, asking if he could do anything for the diners during the time we were there. That was a wonderful addition because it was greatly needed, as he helped us a couple of times. Again, it was not the wait for the reservation, I expected that. It was not less servers, I expected that, although not the attitude. It was the food. I used to love this restaurant, but we were all disappointed. This was a special treat for all of us, and it was very expensive for what we got. We all left disappointed at our once-a-year dinner done so poorly.

Local Neighborhood Gem!

By BugattiBoi88 |

Old Vinings Inn has to be marked in my book as one of the best places I've ate at while being new here to Atlanta! Customer service is ON POINT!! Made a reservation through open table, seated immediately! Greeted by the actual restaurant owner!! That was really cool yet not common! The drinks were made to perfection! The calamari appetizer is not like the average place! It comes tossed in some sort of Asian spiced sauce that brings a bit of a kick to it however not too much that would enable you to enjoy it! For the entrees we chose the traditional Shrimp & Grits along with the Southern Fried Chicken! Everything was priced pretty generously and the portion sizes were perfect! Would recommend this place to anybody who enjoys a nice traditional southern meal at an affordable price!

Thanksgiving buffet

By gagirl549 |

We had reservations on Thanksgiving Day at 4:45. We were impressed with the food on our first visit to the Buffett. On our second trip, we were disappointed as they ran out of several items including turkey and many desserts. We had to keep asking for items. For $55 per person, I expected much more and was surprised this happened. I believe they took their last seating at 5:30 and those folks were really upset since they were out of many items. I would definitely recommend going earlier in the day to avoid this issue.

Southern food at its best

By Vanessa W |

We had our rehearsal dinner at Old Vinings Inn with a group of 14 in April 2014. The staff was very helpful in the planning process and blew us away with the level of service during the dinner. Very attentive, amazing southern food (try the shrimp & grits or fried chicken) and adorable, cozy environment. We will definitely go back soon.

Tradition continues

By Allan H |

Under new management we heard. Had not been there in years. We had the beef short ribs, the beef stroganoff, the bacon wrapped meatloaf, and the salmon special. All were excellent. Our waitress recommended a bottle of wine that was stellar, and with that the price was $45/person complete. Very enjoyable experience, especially with the charm of the old house.

Charming setting

By Lisaann321 |

I had been looking forward to trying this place for a long time. I had heard the food was excellent. I had the fried chicken breast and my friend had the meatloaf. The chicken dish was served with cheese grits and while very good, was not outstanding. Same for the meatloaf. We had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer which were very good, but not outstanding. Dessert choices were ok. We shared a white chocolate pudding, which was good, not anything special. Service was impeccable. The restaurant itself is charming, having been a private residence at one time. Not sure I would return as I am a Foodie.

Great authentic southern food

By gavingreene |

I went here for a meal with colleagues during a conference - we had a room at the back all to ourselves, and a custom menu, which was a nice touch. The fried green tomatoes were great, and the main of chicken was brilliant. The staff were friendly, but not overly pushy, the wine was kept topped-up and the food was great, with decent portions. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated, and it was made even better by the fact that there was torrential rain outside - it made it seem even more welcoming in the restaurant. I'd definitely go back, but not straight away, as I don't live particularly near.

Southern with a Twist

By mad-american-doctor |

After arriving a little late due to traffic, we were seated immediately with no problem. Our waiter, Scott, was fantastic! Attentive without being overbearing. The food was also magnificent. The scallop and cremini mushroom special was very good. There was a bacon caramel brownie for dessert which turned out to be a new and interesting combination.

Delicious food and great atmosphere!

By katza17 |

I finally made my way to Old Vinings Inn after years of hearing great reviews. It did not disappoint. I went on a weeknight to celebrate the holidays. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer which were the best I have ever had. Highly recommend. My date had the shrimp and grits and I had the scallops. Both were delicious. I will definitely be coming back! The attic bar looked fun and I plan to come back on a night when they have live music.

Not what you expect

By Lyn |

We had a group gathering about 60 people & they really couldn’t accommodate us. They could not keep the food coming as we had family style servings. The chicken was great but a little spicy, the seared salmon was ok & the so called ribeye was terrible. Cheap wine & staff couldn’t keep up. Our food was served in a manner in which they should never say they can accommodate & keep up with the servings. I think they will do better on a small group of 5. But that’s just my opinion. Parking sucks & the pictures on the website is not what you would have expected

Wedding recption brunch

By Deb1160 |

Very cute place. The food was excellent! I had the crab cakes benedict! Deicious! They had valet parking that day, but I don't know if that was normal. There was also a bridal shower going on in the next room. It was pretty crowded.

Best fried green tomatoes!

By Storey-Myrick |

This is under new ownership as of two months ago. The manager came to every table and spoke to all guest. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was incredible ! I started with the fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and cream corn. It was the best I've ever had in my life. The lamb chops were very nice and the flan was great. I returned the next night and had the buttermilk fried chicken, which was fantastic! I started with the fried oysters and i lived themed. Man this place is Great. Don't miss this unbelievable food!

Fabulous event at Old Vinings!

By Karen C |

I booked my husband's "surprise" 50th birthday in "The Attic" at Old Vinings Inn. I could not have asked for a more perfect event. The food was amazing. My husband has food allergies, so they modified many of the dishes to accommodate for that and they were STILL so delicious. Lee and Elle were incredible to work with and ensured that everything was taken care of and perfect. The surprise went off without a hitch, the food, drinks, music and atmosphere could not be topped. Everyone, especially my husband, had a fabulous time.

Excellent food and service in a beautiful old stone house. Place settings and crystal are elegant. They have some outside tables on a porch. Valet parking is available

Rehearsal Dinner Success

By Allison M |

I attended a rehearsal dinner (I was the mother of the bride). I can't speak to the value, because I don't know what was paid per person, but the food and service were stellar. Each dish I tried was amazing, and our party of 16 was very well taken care of.

First visit on Valentines day

By StevenHScher |

Our son gave us a gift card so we made our first visit on Valentine's day. It's a cute atmosphere in an old house. They had a special Valentine's day menu, which we knew in advance when we made reservations. It was a nice menu, a bit pricey. We shared an Artisan Grerns salad ($8). It was not very good, just greens & a very bland dressing. We shared two entrees, crab cakes ($36) & the fried lobster tails ($44). The crab cakes were just ok. There were a few large pieces of lump crab meat but most crab was ground up with a bit of filler. Tasty but not near as good as I've had elsewhere. The fried lobster tails were excellent. Lightly breaded & quick fried there were 2 nice size tails. We had the bread pudding for dessert ($8). It was excellent. Our server was very nice but the service a slow & we had to wait a couple of times to find our server to get additional items, like more rolls, order dessert, & get our check. Our meal was a mixed bad & just average for me.

Still a great place to eat

By 518ATLCouple |

Enjoyed a nice brunch with friends. The menu for Sunday brunch provides plenty of choices. It would be nice to see a French toast choice that didn't include bananas. Wait staff was friendly and took great care of us. Their bloody Mary's are really good.

Laid back Upscale

By tobedetermined |

Expect affable comfort rather than formal stuffiness. So leave your ‘Sunday best’ at home & enjoy a laid back dinner. A nicely varied menu that produced a very good meal – with a special honorable mention for the lamb lollipops & I rather enjoyed my fried green tomato appetizer as well. My only slight quibble was the ‘ripeness’ of their wine list which was peppered with wines that still should be sleeping in the cellar for a few more years.

Delicious Thanksgiving

By Nikontom |

A friend and I wanted to have a delicious and memorable Thanksgiving dinner. We chose the Old Vinings Inn. A smaller restaurant that was a bit crowded but really worth the time. The food was delicious and the selections appealing. the scalloped potatoes with blue cheese were great. Am appetizer of shrimp and grits was very tasty. The tradition roasted and smoked turkey were moist and flavorful. The deserts were three different pies and chocolate cake. The staff was very attentive and this was a great experience on a traditional holiday. I will be back to try their regular menu items in the future. Hey Guys!! Nice romantic setting to take a date or significant other. Ask for the room upstairs by the fireplace.

Not good Thanksgiving Dinner

By Bookwoman44 |

I see I am not alone in my poor view of this. Read Robert M's review~He sums it up perfectly. The tables were so close together I was in fear my elbow or hair would end up in the plate of the person behind me. The food was boring and mostly cold or soggy. You had to go up an old creaky flight of stairs to get desert which was really quite unappealing~ Pecan pie, pumpkin pie and some stale chocolate "thing". No whipped cream or ice cream and very dirty and unappetizing. I could not wait to get out of here~ $215 with tip for 3 people! UGH! I will NEVER go back!

Long standing fine dining spot in the heart of Vinings

By Jim W. |

I had made a reservation here a month or so in advance for a special occasion. The menu seemed good and we hadn't dined here previously, though it has been open for quite a long time, apparently. If you approach it from I-285, note that you need to drive past the restaurant to access their parking lot. My nav app routed me to a side street before the restaurant, but there was no parking there or any way to access the restaurant. We were seated promptly despite being early. For a Saturday evening, they didn't seem very busy. There was one other couple at a table near us. They finished while we were eating and another couple arrived at that point. There may have been a couple of other parties who showed up while we were there. Maybe it gets busier later. We finished before 7 p.m. When I made the reservation, there was a question about whether this was some sort of special occasion. I had answered it. I didn't expect freebies based on that, but if the restaurant asks, it seems like it should have some relevance. Some places write a small acknowledgement on the dessert plate if you order one, for example. If it doesn't matter, don't bother to ask. They had a limited wine selection by the glass, but did offer half bottles at reasonable prices. However, the menu wasn't up to date on what was available. The only other issue was with food allergies. Apparently everything that is fried is done so in the same oil. Hence if you are allergic to something and it is fried for preparation, you can't be allergic to anything else which they fry. Not a deal breaker, but most places don't have this as a restriction. I appreciated them acknowledging it up front, though, as opposed to finding out later. Aside from the above, the meal went well. We enjoyed the salad we got, and the entrees were well-prepared. My steak was quite good, though a 6-oz was the only size option there. We also got a chocolate brownie dessert, which we enjoyed very much. Maybe we visited on an 'off' night, but I doubt we'll go back here given the distance, price, etc.

Old favorite in Vinings

By tkent1234 |

Don’t often go to Vinings. Had forgotten about this place. Happened to drive by recently and remembered good meals on previous visits. Went with my wife on Saturday evening and glad that we did. The two signature dishes here are the mountain trout and the fried chicken. And that is what we had. The nice portion of chicken is served with grits and collard greens while the trout has pecans and cranberries on top and a butternut squash purée. All delicious. Had bread pudding for dessert. Nice cozy place with a warm feel. Cute cozy bar upstairs. Nice friendly service.

Amazing!

By Mark B |

One of the best dining experiences of my life! The ambiance was truly special, especially the upstairs bar. The food did not disappoint, the fried green tomatoes and beef short ribs were outstanding. But on top of all this, Tiffany our server, and the rest of the staff, made this one of the best dining experiences of my life! Thank You!

Fabulous Mother's Day Brunch

By tripturner2 |

Old Vinings Inn did a fabulous job with Mother's Day Brunch this year. They didn't over crowd the restaurant or make you feel rushed at all. All the dishes were constantly refreshed. Loved the Banana Foster French Toast...well, actually I loved everything. I will definitely go back soon. Great food, great service.

Without fault

By Ralph B |

This was my 3rd time at Old Vinings. The gluten free option were huge and the food and staff did not disappoint on any visit. Looking forward to heading back next time I'm in ATL

Very tasty food, nicely served

By Gus B |

I had the fried chicken and my colleague had the filet and both were great, Ditto the white chocolate cheesecake. This is a lovely old place, charming, with elegant food and attentive staff.Sabrina our server was pleasant, welcoming, and knowledgeable. I will definitely dine here again.

Fantastic Southern Charm

By xpeacedog |

This is a great example of southern comfort food elevated to fine dining. Southern hospitality at its best! This is how the South welcomes everyone to their home for dinner! Order the crab cakes! .You will not be disappointed! The owner Lee is great guy, always involved in all aspects of the restaurant. The food, service, and atmosphere are always excellent!! ...If you just don’t want to go home after dinner, head upstairs to the Attic to listen to some talented local musicians.

Thanksgiving 2018

By seniortraveler |

This was our second thanksgiving dinner here with family in the last three years. It was great! This time we ate at 1:30 instead of 5:00 and there was plenty of everything. Last time most items were gone which is why we went elsewhere last year. Pimento cheese was too spicy as was the stuffing. Fried turkey was dry and dessert offerings narrow and portions small, That said, shrimp and grits wonderful , roast turkey and gravy terrific, sweet potato and pecan casserole great. Brussels sprouts and cranberry sauce so good! Highly recommend to all!

Southern Style Dinning

Great food of all kinds. I have eaten here at least 5 times and it has never disappointed me. Sunday brunch is outstanding. It is a very old building in the middle of Vinings with lots of charm. Upstairs is a neat little bar with music.

True "Pot Likker" Collards and Okra Too

By stoney2666 |

The waitress was quick to inform us that this was an all new menu, to which I did not relate until I later read others’ reviews. We started with fried green tomatoes stuffed with goat cheese. Totally different and a great start to an excellent meal. I wanted shrimp and grits but was not interested in the Andouille sausage, okra, tomatoes, and poached egg that came with it. Decided I could push those aside and enjoy the shrimp. Surprise. The plate is prepared as a single dish. Too late to change my mind. I game fully decided to try this combination. Ten minutes later I noticed that I had pushed many of the shrimp to the side. Unless disguised and fried, I never eat okra. These people had me eating okra! The combination was delicious. The same with my wife’s chicken and cheddar grits with collard greens. Last time I truly enjoyed collard greens was 1985 when a co-worker took me to his mother’s house so I could try the “real thing”. These collards were as good as Mama Jacobs. Service was excellent. The cost was a little more than our budget will allow for weekly visits, but I will return as often as I can.

Rare Gem

By Ker1020 |

Wonderful place, great food and the atmosphere is perfect. After a great dinner you can walk it off in the area. We will be back and dif look forward to it.

Great atmosphere and service!

By _ruthseymou |

On a trip from Charleston where shrimp and grits are a staple, Trent, our waiter suggested we try Old Vinings Inn's shrimp and grits. I was hesitant to try shrimp and grits from anywhere outside of Charleston, but Trent's description was so vivid that I decided to try. I'm so happy that he talked me into it...I was in heaven. My friend had the pork chop and said it was "to die for." I never order dessert, but back came Trent and his description of the candied bacon brownie. Sold. I will definitely be back the next time I visit Atlanta!

Brunch at Old Vinings Inn

By cindystroman4 |

The Valet was exceptionally polite and quick - I can't imagine doing his job. He packed so many cars in on Sunday afternoon that it was impressive. Brunch was good - and service was ok. some of us ordered Mimosas, and the serving size was laughable. you get about 1/4 cup (1/8 OJ and 1/8 champagne) in an extremely tiny champagne glass. $7 and not worth it.

Intimate and Inviting

By TYCHCH |

Olde world charm greets you as you approach the 'Old Vinings Inn' and continues as you walk in the front entrance and upstairs into the 'Attic Bar.' My wife and I celebrated our 27th Wedding Anniversary and what with Christmas decorations throughout all rooms and levels of the southern style restaurant, the wonderful experience was complete with a superbly presented, tasty dinner - charcuterie plate followed by seared southern river farms filet mignon.

Southern Cooking with the charm of a wonderful date

By Chief |

A wonderful and romantic eatery. Easy to park. Food is of the finest Southern Fare. The bathrooms are small and clean but keeping with the age of the building. (1900's) The shrimp ad Grits are more toward a Cajun flair. Bread for the table was very nice. Shrimp Bisque made my mouth water with creamy delight. The Crab cakes were very wonderful. Extensive wine list as well. A wonderful experience

Pork Chop

By Pat R |

Saw some positive buzz on the pork chop and the bartender recommended, so went that route despite rarely eating pork chop. Unbelievably good. Great glaze/sauce to it - sweetness to it, which is cut by the kale and pearl onions. Bread has a sweet type of glaze over it that is new to me - also excellent. Apt name for the place, as it has an inn type feel on the interior and exterior - home type feeling. Highly recommend.

Great food and service.

By Diane G |

We went here because Surrender Hill was playing music in the Attic and er were in the area. What a pleasant evening. The bartender took amazing care of us, and the food was fantastic!! We had a nice relaxing dinner and the chocolate bacon brownie dessert was incredible!! We will definitely try to make it out again when Surrender Hill is playing there.

Not impressed

By et7351 |

The food is ok...overpriced. The staff is ok. The ambience is ok. Nothing great. Probably won't go back.

Mixed Bag

By Jerry L |

Dinner with a group of 9 in this old converted house in the pleasant Vinings section of Atlanta. Very accessible to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center (and the future new Atlanta Braves stadium). No elevator, so the stairs killed my bad knee. Our group was placed in a nice private room, and the service was excellent! Our meals were a mixed bag of excellent, very good, and less than hoped for. In the excellent category I recommend the charcutie plate appetizer (homemade pimiento cheese spread is terrific!), pecan mountain trout, Spring Mountain chicken, braised short ribs, or shrimp and grits. For dessert, go for the white chocolate banana bread pudding or warm bourbon apple cobbler. A couple of us "foodies" were disappointed in the calamari and expected more with the fried green tomato appetizers. There was also nothing special about the catfish main course special of the day. All in all, it was a good, comfortable, and pleasant dining experience. If one is looking for an exquisite special occasion or "knock your socks off" dining treat, however, find an alternative.

overpriced and a bit disappointing

By davew49 |

This place looks quaint and has some good atmosphere but it seemed stufffy, overpriced and food was just average. I guess my expectations were too high based on its look and fairly decent reveiwes

Bad Service Good Food

By Aaron |

I dined here with my wife on the Sunday night before Christmas as our annual dinner. We made a reservation ahead of time and got there on time and were seated immediately. Upon being seated it was ten minutes or more before we even got waters or placed our drink order, and that was done by a manager. So it was 15 minutes before we saw our waitress. She was new and had only been there a month, was very nice but had no knowledge of the menu, I asked her to run through the menu and she couldn't speak to anything about the food other than listing her favorites. We ordered and then she forgot to place our appetizer order. So we didn't get that until we were nearly done with our main course. Also when we ordered dessert we were told they were out of ice cream. Wish we would have known that before ordering. The girl being new was part of the bad service but seemed like it was more of a training issue. Not worth the $100 we spent.

Macaroni and Cheese is AMAZING!

By HTBMartin |

LOVED every aspect of Old Vinings Inn....food, atmosphere, staff, all of it. They have great music (some nights) in such a quaint, historic property. No pretenious scene here yet the quality of the food is fabulous. Our friend group ordered everything from fried green tomatoes to shrimp to pork to fish...all was divine! But really.....I don't even like macaroni and cheese and theirs was out of this world great! Even the collards were awesome. The server was so wonderful....we loved our friend time here. Will definitely be back.

Treasured Spot Showing Its Age

By Patrick W |

This Restaurant has been a popular spot since I first came to the Altanta area back in the 1970's. It ha gone downhill. The food and service is average at best. We are not coming back.

I could not recommend more highly

By savathboro |

My wife and I visited here for a dinner shortly before Christmas 2013. In short, it was fantastic in every aspect. The valet was courteous and prompt. Once inside, we were struck by the restaurant's ambience. Quaint, but still romantic and felt like "fine dining". The service was frequent and friendly, with the server giving us several very good recommendations. For an appetizer, we had the fried green tomatoes, which were the best I've ever had. That includes many restaurants including Savannah and Athens. For mains, my wife had a tuna special that she enjoyed very much. I was deciding between the veal & short rib meatloaf and the braised short ribs. I asked the server to help me decide and she pointed me toward the meatloaf - the cheaper of the two dishes. She was right. Meatloaf does not do this dish justice. It is really fantastic. For dessert, we split the carrot cake which was sweet and delicious, but not overdone. To top off the wonderful experience, we went to the attic bar upstairs and had a drink and watched live music (which you, amazingly, cannot really even hear until you're up there, so it does not interrupt your quiet dining experience at all). And, when we thought the service could not improve, we received a handwritten card thanking us for coming in the mail about a week later. We immediately made reservations for Valentine's Day at Old Vinings Inn, about 6 weeks out.

Great food

Place is full of character. Wednesday and Thursday live music in the upstairs bar. Great owner. Great food and menu. Weekly specials ,fresh fish. And some good ol southern dishes make for a great time Bartenders are friendly , attentive and humorous

Really Bad Easter Brunch

By dadooleys |

Very disappointed with the Easter Brunch. Poor food quality and a bad server, made the trip unforgettable. My family was very excited for the experience and tried to make the best of it, even though my frustration grew. When I came to have a great family moment, I was so upset at the experience. Food quality was just bad. The lamb and pork loin was incredibly dry. Shrimp and grits was great. Fried chicken was only dark meat. Dips were not stirred. Green beans were not cooked. Deserts were miss-labeled and appeared to not be fresh, tasted that way as well. Constant waiting on items. For example plates, sauce for shrimp, etc. The food was just unremarkable. What made it worse was the service. This was our first visit. We were seated and then waited 15 minutes for our server. She then finally came and her introduction was, have yall not been here before. We said no and then she said okay let me show you where the food is. She said get some food and then I will come get your drinks. She finally brought drinks, only time of the entire meal. If she had asked we would have gotten more mimosas. She just moved with no eye contact. I watched this amazing waitress Lisa, give great service to the tables around us, including bringing out bread multiple times. My daughter saw biscuits and really wanted one. When I finally got our server to slow down enough to ask her, she said she would get them but there are not any available right now. I then watched tables around me get served basket after basket. I then asked again and my server sharply stated, I told you there were none ready. I cracked and firmly pointed out the tables around me. My young daughter was then embarrassed which just made me feel horrible. My wife was amazing and poked fun, we then started laughing as the other waitress brought drink after drink and bread after bread to the surrounding tables. Honestly, I stopped eating after my exchange. Partly because the food stunk and because I was disappointed that I was letting someone impact my experience. Our reservation was at 2:15. So maybe it was just really bad timing and tired staff. I had hoped for a new family tradition, instead we discovered someplace to avoid.

Business or Pleasure

By TravelPete55 |

I have been to Old Vinings Inn in Vinings several times in the last few months. This restaurant is a gem I did not even know about until recently and I am one that loves to eat out at greater Atlanta area restaurants. I am so glad to have discovered this place which has become my favorite place for fried chicken or even better the best crab cakes outside Maryland and quite possibly even better than many Maryland restaurants. I have never been disappointed and will continue to go back.

business dinner

3 of us last evening for a business dinner ... the chef was over and beyond last night .. the red snapper special was outstanding cooked perfectly with great sides , Salmon was also one perfectly , the brownie and candied bacon dessert was over the top and not for the faint of heart .. wow Rick the bartender is a real hoot .. and Lee the owner is a real gentleman

Mother's Day Brunch!

By bgnagi |

Visiting Mom for Mother's Day and we picked this spot for brunch. We were not disappointed. It hit on all cylinders. The inn itself is an historic building and exudes ambiance, the staff was so welcoming and gracious, and the food was delicious. Great variety of dishes and all prepared well, however, once we tried the Bananas Foster French toast it was all over! Highly addictive!

Unexpected and Delightful!

By Phatpo52 |

Best brunch, best atmosphere, best service by far on our trip to Atlanta and Newnan Georgia. Make sure you find this Inn and enjoy!

Rehearsal Dinner Extrordinare

By billcollins80 |

We had an overall fantastic experience for 50 family and friends for our son's rehearsal dinner. The food was exquisite and the service exceptional. We were seated in the enclosed porch which was a charming setting for our group. Everyone had a great time.

Very rude Service

By 115tamaraf |

The hostess very rudely seated us after determining we had no reservation. She at least seated us on the covered patio per our request. After that — we were served NOTHING. not even a drop of water! and not spoken to by any of the staff for over 10 minutes. 3 staff continued to wait on a table of 4 near us that had already eaten. Totally No Southern hospitality I’d say. The restaurant was beautiful and seemed quite upscale. They were NOT short staffed. Make sure you don’t upset the hostess prior to going. Manager- I certainly don’t mind you knowing that this was late brunch time on May 15. Your staff needs some courtesy training.

Staple fine dining in downtown Vinings

If you want a consistent quality meal in a cozy setting then try Old Vinings Inn. This restaurant is a long standing institution which may not amaze with the latest fad foods but always delivers with quality southern dishes.

Excellent Meal, Excellent Service

By TripTipDad |

I hadn't been to the Old Vinings Inn in literally years. In fact, I didn't know it had changed ownership until I saw a spot on a local food and restaurant show. We made a last minute decision for just the two of us to more or less drop in. They accommodated us on a night where the crowd was light. Fried Green tomatoes were fabulous. The Springer Mountain Buttermilk Fried Chicken with white cheddar grits was fantastic. The portion was large enough to take half home for the next day. It was great then, again..... The Filet was cooked correctly and the stilton and roasted garlic compound butter was a nice touch. The crispy brussel sprouts were the best we'd ever had. I ordered a side of the Four Cheese Mac and thought it was heavenly. Not heavy. Light, and perfect. Dessert was great. We thought it was well worth it. Service was top notch. Our server was careful, professional, informative, and eager to please. He got everything just right. The meal was priced well. It's average value for upper scale dining. We thought it was worth the price paid. We plan to return.

very enjoyable evening

By Jamie O |

We just got home from our dinner at Old Vinings Inn. Our daughter and son-in-law share our anniversary, so we double dated for the night. The inn is quaint. We were greeted in a friendly fashion as soon as we walked in the door and seated promptly. We started with the charcuterie plate which had a variety of meats, cheeses, spreads and veggies on it. It was nice. My husband got the filet. It was tender enough to cut with his fork and very tasty. I got the fried chicken. It was juicy and tender and nice and crispy on the outside. My greens were very tasty. Our daughter got the pork chop which was massive. It was tender and well seasoned. Our son-in-law got the shrimp and grits which he enjoyed. I would not say the food was overpriced. The entrees range from about $18 to $32 for the small filet. Most are in the $20's. The portion sizes were plentiful. I finished mine, but I really could have eaten less and taken some home in a to go bag. For a nice restaurant in the Vinings area, I feel that the prices were spot on. Our server, Trinity, was very friendly and very attentive. A very nice anniversary dinner!

Horrible Thanksgiving Experience

By Bob M |

Holiday buffet set up next to the front door, people coming and going, other people in line, temps in the 30's, cold air just flowing across the buffet line. Cold line consists of boiled shrimp, pimento cheese and crackers, and spaghetti squash salad. Hot choices turkey, leg of lamb, shrimp and lumpy grits (I meam lumps the size of grapes), five veggie choices. Dessert choices were apple or pumpkin pie, a few little petit four type pastries. You get one plate, and you reuse it every trip to the buffet line. You do get a fresh dessert plate. All this (sarcasticly speaking) for $50 per. The bill comes with a 20% gratuity added on your behalf. Gratuity amount is my choice based on service, which was poor, not theirs. I changed it.

Wonderful event location

By Maryann H |

We hosted our son's rehearsal dinner late on a Friday night. The food and service were both wonderful. Our guests commented very positively on the food and considering a large portion of the guests hailed from New Orleans and some have lived and eaten all over the world that's high praise, I was able to make arrangements with just a few contacts with Lee by internet and phone from several states away. Fantastic place and staff. Excellent value as well.

Best Shrimp and Grits

By dewhite1 |

On a business trip decided to try Old Vinings Inn on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was not crowded and we were dropped off by our hotel shuttle around 6:30. Our waitress was fantastic. She gave us the history of the building and of the restaurant and had many recommendations. My business friend and I split the fried green tomatoes and the jumbo scallops. Both were excellent. We both decided to try the shrimp and grits and they were fabulous. My business partner was from New York so I wasn’t sure if she had ever tasted really good shrimp and grits and I am from South Carolina and this was the best that I have ever tasted. We also had dinner the next week in Columbia, SC and both were too afraid to try shrimp and grits again because we knew that it would be a disappointment to what we had at Old Vinings Inn. After dinner our waitress took us on our tour of the rest of the restaurant. One of the best meals I have had in Atlanta. I can’t wait until I return in April to this area again so I can eat here again.

Very Fair Dining

By Austin H |

Atmosphere was great at this quaint restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. A varied selection of menu items including fresh seafood, steaks, pork, lamb, chicken, salads in addition to a daily special. Service was friendly and very responsive. Valet parking was available at a nominal fee of $2.00. Now for the food. I think it would do them well to offer half or petite portions for the ladies. My wife ordered the pecan crusted trout and it was served deboned and the 2 filets were too much for her to eat. One filet would have been sufficient. I ordered the rib eye prepared medium rare with an "Oscar" topping. The grill must have been too hot since my steak was cooked more to the well side. I was starving and we were on a schedule to make a concert so I made no complaints. The manager came by at a point when I had consumed about half my meal I asked how everything was so I told him about the steak preparation. He was very apologetic and when the bill was brought to our table the waitress explained that the manager had eliminated the charge for the steak. I would be willing to give Old Vining Inn another chance since the manager was extremely fair in how the cooking error was handled. The seasoning on the steak had a very pleasing flavor and I would like to try it again when the rib eye was medium rare!

Not as good as it used to be...

By Winter G |

We used to love going to Old Vinings Inn for dinner on occasion, but do not go there anymore. The past 2 times we have been, my steak has been of poor quality and just felt everything was lacking the quality (including the service) it used to be, minus the dessert. We would love to come back if things were how they used to be, but to us for lesser quality and paying a decent price, it's not worth it to us anymore. Bummer, because we live in Vinings and like staying local and it's such a cute place.

Very nice

By Joe S |

Date night dinner for two couples. Service was faultless and on point. Dinner was great but I was slightly disappointed with the crabcakes. They were on the bland side taste wise. The rest of the party enjoyed their meal and were very pleased. One thing is that the tables are too cramped together. The ladies sitting next to us were continuously bumping on us when stepping in and out of their table. Although their rudeness is not the restaurant's fault, I noticed that all the tables are placed too close together to maximize space. Eliminating a few tables may shrink business a bit but will make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Old Vinings Inn; a great dining experience

The restaurant oozes with charm and grace and the menu is an eclectic collection of southern fare. The good is delicious, the servers are knowledgeable and the ambience can't be beat. I'm confident that you'll have a memorable dining experience.

"Could do better- needs so work"

By momintown |

We went to this old charming restaurant after we heard it had a new owner. We had a reservation and were celebrating a birthday. The place was half full, but we were seated in a corner on an old/cold porch. The tables were close together with loud patrons, so we could not carry on a conversation. I ordered scollops with butternut squash risotto. The scollops were under-cooked and risotto had almost no squash. There was not salad or garnish. Looked lonely and not appealing. My husband ordered the trout, a better choice. Because is was my birthday, were were offered a complementary dessert. We chose banana bread pudding. It was cold and contained black bananas - not a treat. The waiter was nice, but dressed in old jeans - no apron or logo uniform. The "new" Old Vinings in needs to find its niche. A casual bar or fine dining. It is neither. The patrons don't know - one group was in cocktail clothes and another in pajama bottoms - we know because he said so and the table were so close that we knew also. Hardly a place for a celebratory meal. They could do better with a little/lot of work and the place deserves it.

Excellent Romantic Dinner

By JanNJeff |

My husband took me here for Valentine's Day. What a great choice. Everything from the moment we walked in was perfect. The staff was very attentive but not overbearing. Both my husband and I had the filet and both were cooked perfect. They also have an excellent wine list. It was truly a night to remember.

"Authentic"

By 2happi |

This is the place to go if you want to experience Great service and even greater tasty food!! Me and my 5 friends dined here before our evening at the Cobb Energy center. Had an amazing server who explained the history of the Inn and explained our selections, offered some advice on our beverages too! All the food is so very well prepared, seasoned and well presented. The music is good too.

Wonderful find

By Wendy I |

Dinner was excellent: the food, ambiance, and historic setting made for a lovely evening. We will be back again!

Lots of potential

By Steve M |

After driving past Old Vinings Inn for years we decided to give them a try on our latest trip to the area. I think we picked a bad night. They were having a local meet and greet. The very large group was really loud. They were having a wonderful time. We were looking for a quite dinner. These two ideas were in contradiction. Dinner was ok but... my wife's chicken was not cooked through and we had to send it back. They staff and management were good to rectify things . I wish I could give them a better rating because they were nice . But it was just an average dinner.

Bridal Shower

Amazing hospitality

By LHPUSAviaOki |

We read a review and decided to venture here for lunch. We should have done a better job at researching because this is a dinner and catering spot. The owner welcomed us in anyway and fed us off of an amazing catering menu from a group lunch that he was hosting that day. I've never experienced such warm hospitality and they weren't even supposed to be serving lunch! The food was out of this world. I will be going back for dinner and I would highly recommend hosting an event here. Charming atmosphere, southern hospitality, fantastic food.

Fun to eat in an historic restaurant.

By 2Finediners |

I ordered the Springer Mountain Buttermilk Fried Chicken. The chicken was moist. The cheddar grits were the creamiest and best I've ever had. If I hadn't known they were grits I don't think I would have know they were grits. I really didn't care for the pot likker collards. They were cooked with more vinegar than I like. We sat on the porch. It was a bit cool for me, but then I'm almost always cold. Another downside was I could smell cigarette smoke. Turns out it can migrate in from the parking lot area. When I told the server they turned on a exhaust fan and the oder was removed very quickly. They asked us if we wanted to move inside, we declined, but another time I think I would try inside.

Almost ruined my Easter

By Jen B |

My mother made reservations for 2:00. I know it was a busy day & since it was buffet, we tried not to worry that we weren’t seated until after 2:15. The restaurant just tried to seat too many people for that day. They put the buffet food in a very small room where people were having to really work around others to serve themselves. The size pans they had for each dish were ridiculously small. My sons loved the shrimp & grits. The salmon when it was available was above average but we waited on both of those items to be refilled (I mean over 8 minutes waited ) if you take reservations and know how many people are coming -prepare the food ahead for the next grouping! My husband said the chicken was only dark meat ( which many people don’t like). Nothing else was memorable. Our server was pleasant and cleared plates well. A 20% tip for a buffet that was awful really made me unhappy as well. I hadn’t been in a long time even though I pass it everyday! I will not be going back. If you go- go for a drink on the rooftop and NEVER go for a buffet!

Sunday Brunch

By Max S |

First time visit to Old Vinings Inn. We ordered the scallops as an appetizer, which are normally only available off the dinner menu. But they accommodated and they were delicious, even, unfortunately, probably the best part of the meal. Ordered a peach Bellini that was luke warm and tasted like a small pour of warm cheap champagne. I ordered a Benedict described to have included fried chicken tenders and bacon. What I got was severely overcooked processed chicken and no sauce, hollandaise or otherwise, to soften up a rather mediocre attempt at Benedict. A nice place, with a decent looking dinner menu, but I won't be back for brunch...ever.

Solid - awesome for what it is

By Michael K |

Perfect for business or romance. Is the restaurant old? Heck yeah. It's in the name and pre-dates most things in Atlanta and that adds to it... so those that want slick Eurotrash head somewhere else. It has been a long time since I was here and glad I picked it for a meet up with another couple that was 60% friends and 40% business. The bar upstairs was great for the other couple to wait in as they had arrived early. Our server was very attentive and professional in old school way - understood what we needed before we did and made us laugh. The wine was very good but the food was just fantastic for the price point of a $20-$25 (some are higher) restaurant. Fried Green Tomato's and Lobster Mac Cheese was, well fought over. Everyone raved about their dinner. I had Beef Stroganoff that was the best I have ever had, even ones in Europe do not stand up. I am already scheming how to return it was that good. Overall, this place hit on a lot points.

Wonderful food & friendly service

By Suzanne M |

Ate dinner at this old inn and was very pleased with the food and the service! It was a bit chilly that evening so I enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace in the front room. The Brussel sprouts were very good, and the mac-n-cheese dish was very comforting & creamy. My friend stated "this is the best steak I have ever eaten!" Christy was our server and she was very attentive! The portions were generous, I took almost a whole meal home with me. Upstairs there was a full bar and an area where live music was played but it didn't interfere with our dinner conversation.

Elopement Dinner

By IGolf4food |

We were so pleasantly surprised when we viewed this venue as a place to hold a small elopement. We visited to celebrate a birthday dinner prior to making our final choice in order to try the menu. Everything was spectacular and so we made arrangements for our son’s special event. We were accommodated in the Wine room, and were able to use half of the outside patio for our ceremony and some socializing. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive. The dishes were served hot and delicious, with plenty of variety in the entrees to satisfy all. Crab cake appetizer was the crowd favorite. For dinner, the filet was exceptional, even to our jaded New Yorker family! We retired to the upstairs Attic bar to complete the evening. I recommend this venue for any dinner or event where ambiance, food quality, server standards and unpretentiousness is important. You will enjoy!

Typical "southern" menu

By luv4phood |

The food was fine, just nothing terribly interesting. There are all the usual suspects: shrimp and grits, pecan crusted trout, fried chicken, etc. The food was fine but I was driven to distraction by our waiter who could not keep his hands off his beard. And, then after massaging his beard, he would grab our water glasses for a refill. No thank you!

Went for Mother's Day brunch with the family.

By Caroline U |

We'd never been before and someone had gifted us a gift card for the restaurant so we decided to try it for Mother's Day. We had a reservation and we had no wait at all, so that was very good. Our server walked us over to the Brunch buffet. They had some very tasty items, the Shrimp and Grits, salmon, lamb. I would have expected a few more side items on the buffet but it was fine. The kids found plenty to eat. The dessert table had a good variety of treats. Service was fast and friendly. Parking valets were great as well. It's a tiny lot but they manage.

Great brunch - wonderful staff

By Emma H |

On a rainy Sunday in June, there are fewer places more enjoyable than brunch at Old Vinings Inn. The staff were greatly welcoming, ascertaining that it was our first visit and giving us some history of the old place. The brunch menu looked good, and although they were out of our first choice (the beef hash), the chicken with biscuits and gravy was a great replacement. The cheddar grits were divine - thick and tasty. I'd recommend this brunch spot for eating with friends or family. There are a lot of post-Church diners, so although the dress code is "smart casual", on a Sunday you can expect to feel under-dressed next to the old Atlanta ladies in hats and bright colored suits. Charming and friendly place.

Quiet, relaxing meal

By Nolia R |

Just had dinner there. New owner, management, chef. Fabulous food...three of us ordered different dinners and they were all excellent. The fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever eaten. I had the lamb lollipops medium rare and they were delicious. Lee helped us decide on a wine selection. Helpful and attentive wait staff.

No Slackers on Mondays

By dougcarter |

Stayed in Vinings for a professional training and wandered up the street to a different location for dinner every night. Prior to the week of my stay, I hadn’t been out to sit down and eat since before March 13th, 2020, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The service and food I had at the Old Vinings Inn was by far among the best. Having worked in the restaurant business for several years before, I know Monday isn’t always the best night to go out and eat if you want a good experience. Front- and back-of-house staff are tired from the weekend. Sometimes you’re getting the last of what’s in the walk-in before the kitchen digs into the new food order. There usually aren’t many waiters on the floor, sometimes no host. This wasn’t that kind of Monday. Amira, my server, and Rick, the host, were both on point. Attentive, gracious, approachable. They seemed to be the only ones working the dining room and were busy enough for a Monday, but neither seemed rushed or overwhelmed. Drinks and food were well-timed. They checked on me and asked how I was enjoying everything. I could tell other guests were enjoying their experience too. Even though I was a stranger who might only ever eat there once, they made the place feel familiar and relaxing. Even though I was alone, I also felt entertained and engaged (it can be so easy to forget about the person dining solo or assume he/she/they just want to be left alone). The food was delicious. Dining on a budget from my employer, I ordered the fried chicken. It was tender, juicy, and crispy in all the ways you want and /need/ comfort food to be. The collards were rich without being salty, and the texture of the grits was on point, neither watery nor lumpy. If I felt hesitant on the approach, it was only because the ambience—at first glance—says “white bread with no crust.” But if you’re the kind of person who pays attention, there’s unique art on the walls; the service and food make the atmosphere. I’m also not an interior decorator or restaurant owner, so who am I to crab about the space? I also felt incredibly safe in light of my anxiety about the pandemic even after being fully vaccinated. Many thanks to Amira, Rick, and everyone in the kitchen. Job well done. The owners are lucky to have you.

Southern Charm with delicious food

By Mark H |

Set in a charming country inn, old vinnings inn offers the southern charm with elegant southern cuisine. Try the fried green tomatoes and the charcuterie plate as an appetizer. Don't miss out on the flaky buttermilk fried chicken, severed with cheese grits or the grilled pork chop and mac and cheese to delight your palate!

The Attic - obviously locals

By Bernadette A |

Great vibe, old school, quaint, crowded, everyone seemed to know everyone else. Generous wine poor- live music- dance floor where people actually dance. Just a good ole fashioned locals bar.

Wonderful and relaxing

By Dalen K |

We had a terrific meal on the porch. The food and service was great. Lee Schulman, the proprietor, was very attentive to our needs I highly recommend the shrimp and grits. My wife is a vegetarian and they worked with her to provide her with a meal she really enjoyed. I love this place and will come back.

Oriental Botanical Gin is the da' bombe!

By Awesomely Aimless Adventuring America |

Stopped by for a quick snack. The wait staff were meeting and we popped in by mistake. The owner was kind and welcoming. They were discussing the Gin (Oriental Botanical) - amazing! Exceptional staff - smart, kind and creative. Fun place with interesting history.

Wow!

By Mitch C |

Love this place for drinks after work! My coworker talked me into this and I'm glad he did! Staff is very personable and attentive, makes my specialty drink perfect! Hard to impress me, but Old Vinings Inn did a great job! I definitely recommend the fried green tomatoes and jumbo lump crab cake is a must!

Underwhelming

By Rosson45 |

I was not as impressed as I had hoped to be. The interior setting is very nice, good location, table settings with linens and appropriate cutlery. The first irritation was the noise level. The room (apparently one of several) had five four-tops and one six-top. When all 4-tops were occupied it was very difficult to carry on a conversation. The service was incredibly slow. Then the fare: the Beets and Sweets salad was disappointing, lacking any memorable flavor. The crab cake was not presented as pictured on the website (although neither was the salad), and was dry and lacked taste - no hint of mayonnaise, Worcestershire, mustard or any condiment. Bland. Very. More like just pieces of damp crab squeezed together and fried. The whisky sour was nothing special, just okay. The exception was the Charcuterie Board. It was outstanding. Excellent pickled vegetables (okra, cauliflower), good cheese selection, some prosciutto and salami, and two wonderful spreadables with thin crispy crackers. I may go back just for the Charcuterie Board and maybe try the Caesar salad and candied bacon. Might be a better experience.

Family comfort and someone else did the dishes!

By Fireball137 |

We had our Thanksgiving dinner at Old Vinings Inn. Our reservation was for a large group of 16 and Old Vinings did a great job tucking us away from the rest of the general public. That touch give us a great home feeling for the holiday. The place was packed and I was surprised how well the staff kept their cool. I was really impressed with the wait staff, everyone was all smiles and very good at keeping our drinks filled. And lets not forget the food! Everything on the buffet was awesome. There was so much detail given to each item. I really liked the deviled eggs, squash soup and the varies gravy dressings. The shrimp and grits station was a meal in itself. It was a great contrast to the rest of the food and enhanced the entire meal for a better balance meal. This was a great recommendation for family holiday events. I am looking forward to return for a casual dinner very soon!

Delicious brunch

By AMANDA02014 |

My friends and I enjoyed their Sunday brunch. The candied bacon appetizer was positively addicting.... My mouth is watering thinking about it. Our table ordered corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, and the banana French toast. All were excellent. Very flavorful and very well prepared. Service was great of course too!

Not what I expected of a Vinings Location

By Clint S |

Nice area, nice place. Very original restaurant with a great atmosphere. Wasn't impressed with entrées. Plates were not warm and side items were actually cold, tasty but cold. Service was nice and they took care of us when issues arrived.

Thanksgiving brunch.

By Russell |

I’ll get right to it. This cramped little place should stick to its regular minute and not try to process a herd of humans through a Buffet that is nothing more than a pretty display of bland, tasteless, processed food on a holiday.

Real Southern Hospitality

By Sean Sequar |

It felt like I went back in time. The building was standing during the Civil War and it was a post office, a general store, a filling station etc. Let me make this short and simple the food was incredible, the service was great. The waitress / server was world class awesome.....I can't wait to visit this place again!

An Excellent Taste of the Best of Southern Cuisine & Atmosphere

Not only is the mouth-watering food incredible, but the atmosphere, decor & impeccable service from the staff was amazing. We had a party of 16 & they were warm & attentive. The food was DELICIOUS!!! We will absolutely be back...

Not what it used to be...

By WSS48 |

We used to go to OVI often when we lived in Vinings but have since deported to East Cobb and haven't been there in years. We decided to celebrate our anniversary at OVI because is was a major one and we were reminiscent of when we went before. I teetered between Average and Good but leaned toward average because it just didn't measure up to that priced restaurant (close to $200 for two with a pretty middle of the road bottle of wine). The first thing I noticed is at 7:30 on a Saturday night, I only saw a handful of tables occupied. I remember when you had to plan to go for weeks and I guess I should have realized that the ability to change my reservation to any time that night a few nights before on Open Table should have given me a clue. The service was good -- not stellar (especially given the few number of people) and it was kind of strange that the waiter said he was the bartender... The liquor selection was a little thin and I walked by the bar and noticed that they may be trimming the selections to save money. The fried green tomatoes were good. Both my wife and I had the crab cakes and they are VERY heavy. They are served with a corn chowder and they are just too rich (they used to be served with a delicious romalaude (Sp??) sauce that fit perfectly. If you do the crab cakes, by all means share them and pick something lighter. Neither of our dishes were hot (they weren't cold enough to send back but they also weren't hot). We tried the peach cobbler and it was VERY disappointing. Canned peaches (really??) and what looked like a crumbled up granola bar. Skip the dessert. So, all in all, it was just OK. My comment to my wife was, "It just tells us you can't go back..." My wife said, "we should have done Canoe"...

Neighboorhood Gem - Great Brunch

By Mmitchel |

I love this place! It is in an old house in the center of history Vining's Village. We are always warmly greeted by Elle and thanked for dining there when we leave. The rooms are cozy and all provide a different dining experience including an outside porch, reminiscent of the old south. I have tried many of the brunch dishes and they are all good. My favorite is the crab cake which is basically pure lump crab. The basket of fresh baked breads is a nice addition for the table to share.

Romantic Dinner at the Inn

Went to Old Vinings Inn with friends on a date-night. Loved the charming atmosphere. Service was good. Food was your basic Atlanta upscale southern cuisine and nothing outstanding but good overall.

Arthur & the Meatloaf

By Suzanne W |

After driving by this restaurant many times since we moved here in July, we finally had dinner here. The building is quaint and historic with indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is next to a small but busy road and the view is of the road and the parking lot. The outdoor porch does have pretty planters with flowers. Our waiter Arthur was the highlight of our visit. He gave us a brief history of the building and made dining suggestions. Arthur was positive and professional. The best thing we ate that night was the meatloaf. We would return for the meatloaf! We had the calamari, beet salad, and dip duo for starters. The calamari was the best of the starters we had, dips were fine, and the beet salad seemed not fresh. The greens on the top of the beet salad were wilted and the soft cheese appeared to have had beets resting on them for some time. The chicken with grits was juicy and flavorful and paired well with the grits.

Fantastic charming restaurant with amazing food!

By WhitZBD |

I forgot how amazing this place is! I went there last night with my dad and his best friends from out of town and the food was absolutely incredible! Everyone raved about their meals and the appetizers were super tasty with a beautiful presentation. I had the shrimp and grits, it was seriously one of the best meals I've ever had! The service was also above par, our waitress was awesome! The owner came out and chatted with us and he was super nice, he just took over 4 months ago, but had a very impressive resume of restaurants he's managed. They also have a private room perfect for 8 people you can request when making a reservation and there is live music at the upstairs bar Thurs-Sat. If you are looking for a neat fine dining restaurant to take an out of town guest, I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Business Dinner

Business dinner with co-workers. Nice place, great service and atmosphere. The crab cakes were very good.

Outstanding in every way

I've eaten at the Inn on many occasions over the years, most recently for 2 business meetings in their private dining room - The Bear Room. The staff have moved mountains to accommodate our needs. Impeccable service, delicious food and a great atmosphere. Gold stars!!!

Amazing Quaint Lil Ole Historical Inn

By Greta |

Very good food and great service. Atmosphere was amazing. We had the Shrimp Po Boy and Eggs Benedict. Coffee was off the chain. Owner, Lee Schulman, visited each table to find out how we were doing and he was very friendly. And our Server, Justin was the greatest and sweetest Waiter ever. Love you guys, will be back to visit.

Anniversary dinner made perfect.

By Jake D |

After years of talking about going, we made reservations for our anniversary dinner- planning on dinner only, with drinks and dessert to follow elsewhere. The staff, a perfect balance of relaxed but professional, made our night one to remember. We had a most delicious dinner and decided to head up to the rooftop bar. Don't skip this!!!! The people watching, the staff, the drinks..... All are just great. We ended up staying there all night and had absolutely the best time. Thanks to everyone!!!!

Wonderful Experience

By Heather P |

I chose Old Vinings Inn to have a celebratory dinner and it did not disappoint! My expectations were greatly exceeded as my family was led to a private eating room, The Bear Room, which features a bear painting as well as its own fireplace. The food was very good and we also enjoyed the live music overheard in the background. We were even given complimentary dessert when the staff found out we were celebrating a large accomplishment. Great atmosphere. Definitely recommend - this was the perfect evening for our family!

Private event

By Douglas T |

Several months ago we visited Old Vinings Inn for a Sunday brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. We then reserved space at the restaurant for a Christmas party which took place the first Sunday in December. The entire planning process and the actual event were answers to our host/hostess's prayers. The owner and staff were extremely accommodating - working within our budget, helping us with creative food ideas, buffet placement, bar, servers, hot and cold dishes...the works! We decided to use the top floor for the party. On the night of the party we had preparty jitters, but entering the Inn those jitters melted away. The decorations raised our festive spirits. We saw that things had been taken care of -- we could see a lot of thoughtful planning. We saw how the staff had appropriately moved furniture to accommodate our guests. The food and the bar were easy to access...and when the servers walked through the crowd with scrumptious lamb lollipops and hot fried Brie cheese - the guests were impressed. These were just two of many delectable treats. As host/hostess we were somewhat nervous about how the night would be, but the staff was kind, calming and accommodating from beginning to end. Of course, as you might imagine from our point of view, leaving the clean-up to the staff was perhaps the nicest way to end the night. We were free to exit with our friends. One guest later commented online that the event was the best they had been to in years. Thanks Old Vinings Inn. It may be the most perfect party we have ever put on...certainly the easiest. We are grateful! Chief Humbugs 2013

Hidden Gem

By LStravel71 |

This place is a must if you are in the Atlanta metro area. The staff was excellent and so attentive with great recommendations. The shrimp and grits made my belly so happy. The brownie bacon sundae was all that. Very rich in taste and did not break the bank. Would visit this adorable restaurant again.

Will go back!

Superior service and sumptuous meal. We recommend the lamb and the bourbon apple cobbler for dessert! The owner Lee Schulman is an attentive and gracious host. Very nice!

Beautiful Old-World Inn with Inviting Menu

By carissa-bert |

We first dined here for sunday brunch, which was quiet and delightful. Our server was very attentive and took time to explain the menu and answer any questions we had about the dishes. While they serve plenty of those "typical breakfast foods," you'll find a selection of inventive alternatives that pack a hearty finish. While you'll have to wait to sip on mimosas until after noon, you won't be disappointed with the wait. This restaurant offers a wonderful array of upscale dining on a budget. If you're here in the evening, be sure to check out their attic bar--complete with a colorful crowd and live music.

we were there Christmas Eve. The fixed prix menu was diversified and the prices were reasonable. The wait staff was courteous and the service on this busy evening was good.

Southern Comfort Foods in a Historic Setting

By Barry M |

The Old Vining Inn offers inspiring gourmet comfort foods in a historic inn setting. It's a cross between an upscale bed and breakfast and a country inn. My wife and I and friends have dined here for dinners but mainly brunch. We love the organic fried chicken or any of the breakfast items. The beef burger is mainly beef. Try the bread basket; it's a meal in itself. In general, you will enjoy most meals from the fried greet tomatoes to the bread pudding. The food is consistently good. However, we anticipate the service as much as we anticipate the food on our visits. Don't be surprised if the owner stops briefly at your table to chat or even carry your left overs to the car for you.

Bad service, salty food, not worth the price

By Love4Travel616 |

Not impressed on any level. Firstly, the service was not great. We had a 9:30 reservation and when I called to make sure it wasn't too late since the restaurant closed at 10- the man was extremely rude in what he said and how we spoke. His only answer was "we close at 10 so if you can eat by then fine" I should have known then it was a sign not to go-- but due to the good reviews we went anyway. We walked in and had to seek out a maître d' since no one was at the front, finally we were seated. The bread was delicious. We ordered the crawfish and black eyed peas fritters which were good but heavy because they were so fried. I got the scallops - they were good but I found the scallops and risotto to be extremely salty. My husband had the steak and mashed potatoes. He enjoyed it, but again I felt the mashed potatoes were super salty. Prior to going - we read about the history of the inn and we're excited to check it out-- again it wasn't anything amazing. They have valet parking only for $2-- the most redeeming aspect was the friendly valet guys. All and all I was disappointed especially after seeing the good reviews and the history of the restaurant we were disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Good food but tired venue

By Mike M |

Food was very good, but lacks creativity. Restaurant is old and dated and could use a freshening up. Wait staff was good, but not great.

Like it for quiet dinner

By rsmithpilot |

Very good food. Not crowded or hurried. Service is above average. Food is consistently very good. Often go for traditional recipes that are done well.

Country Southern Charm.

By surfd_63 |

This was a true Southern Cooking place. The food was good. We were in a hurry so we could not truly take it all in. All the food was good. The people were nice and the old rustic home gave it that nice Southern Charm. I am sure we will be back at some point.

Heavenly brunch - and amazing service!

By Dee B |

Took our two Little ones to savor a southern brunch today. To start, we ordered beignets and both adults had mimosas, which were very good. Beignets had a slightly different approach drizzled with honey and then powdered sugar. We all enjoyed them. My husband had the Country breakfast and I had the Eggs Benedict. Eggs Benedict were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was very well prepared. Both girls went for a more hearty choice from the cute kids menu, which included drink, dessert, entree and side. Everything was delicious but the best part of our meal was talking to our amazing host Julie, who went above and beyond to ensure the girls had a memorable time. She was the highlight of our meal. Will definitely be back when he weather is warmer, to enjoy the patio!

FOOD-GASM!

Ahhhh, i love this place. It's such a cute quaint restaurant with good service and great food. On a nice spring or not so hot summer day, sitting outside is very calming. Reservations are encouraged!

Wonderful Experience and GREAT Management!

By Jessica J |

I am an event planner and I am constantly working with vendors and management of companies. Mr. Lee Schulman is very attentive, courteous, and GREAT at responding in a timely manner to questions and concerns. The dinner he and his wonderful staff provided to a group of about 22 was amazing. They travel constantly and are always looking forward to the dinner meetings we have. They said this was the best one yet! Kudos to Mr. Schulman and his wonderful staff! To impress all 22 has been something not many have been able to do. The food and atmosphere were equally as amazing as the staff and management. -- Jessica J. Cool place

By Jenifer P |

Went there last night with a group of 8. Had a reservations and walked right in although the place was not crowded at all. Our waiter was very attentive and the food came out very quickly. Even the owner came over to check on us. The food was good. I had the filet and the potato gratin was really good. Husband had the pork chop and he said it was good- considering only the bone was left I guess it was! Went upstairs for the entertainment and it was really crowded there so we found a small room with a fireplace. All in all a great little place.

Never Again. Never.

By Meredith P |

Went here for Thanksgiving Buffet. What a terrible experience, particularly when we were so hopeful and excited when we walked in. The topper was when we were asked to leave after being there for just an hour (for a Holiday buffet) because a larger party was coming, despite us being on time for our reservation. Who books a reservation for only one hour?! To add insult to injury, we were offered a cocktail at another table when we were asked to move; we requested the cocktail and it NEVER came. Moreover, we were charged for soft drinks (at a buffet!), and a 25% gratuity was added to our check for a party of three (again, at a buffet!). The food was lousy--turkey tough and salty, little variety, and not hot. The restaurant ran out of white meat turkey, as well--at 2:30 in the afternoon. We will never, ever go there again. What a shame such a cute venue harbors such lousy service and food.

Very nice, like a trip back in time....

By smurer2016 |

Tired of restaurants that look and feel the same, with food that tastes the same? Old Vinings is a welcome relief. The atmosphere is excellent, with food and service that is very good. Don't miss the crap cakes.

Excellent Dinner and Service

Charming southern hospitality

By JM1051 |

I was alone on a business trip to Atlanta and this restaurant was close to my hotel. The host and waiter made me very comfortable and even offered to bring me one fried green tomato since he knew that eating the full appetizer alone with an entrée would be too much. The fried green tomato was amazing - the layer of goat cheese was different and wonderful. My shrimp & grits were also an upscale version with a poached egg on top. The wine list had an impressive array of really good California wines by the glass which I appreciated. I'm only sorry I had no room for dessert - I'm sure it would have been great.

Comfort Food with a Twist

By Rudy |

The Old Vinnings Inn is in Vinnings which is an area with a lot of charm. We have gone by the OVI many times, but never dined there. So a few days before Christmas we decided to give it a try. There were a few Christmas parties in progress, but this did not affect our being seated promptly. Our server inquired if this was our first visit and when we said it was she proceeded to give us a brief interesting history of the Inn. Now, on to the food......there are a number of offerings which are definitely comfort food and finished in an unusual way. I am not a veggie person, but the Brussel sprouts and potatoes that accompanied the petite filet were outstanding. I actually finished the Brussel sprouts first! The three of us all ordered something different and were very happy with our choices. This restaurant will be on our "favorites" list.

Birthday Celebration

By TLD1747 |

Celebrating my wife's Birthday with a group of 17, consisting of our adult children and grandchildren in a private dining room known as The Wine Room. Our servers, Victor and Lauren ( sp? ) were able to serve our private dining menu as well as cocktails, wine and non alcoholic beverages in a timely manner. Special recognition to Lee, the owner of OVI, assembling a Chef and staff capable of producing a reasonably priced, large selection of appetizers and entrees resulting in a high quality of food. Assisting Lee, is Jimmy ( manager) keeping a watchful eye on the operation. I highly recommend dining at OVI and you will not be disappointed

Was hoping for more

By letsdosomething |

Cute little place on the corner. Menu seemed ok but just average and a bit over priced. When ordering, they were out of a few item. Front staff was nice and I did find a new beer I enjoyed "Naked pig" but the food was just so-so/ok. Petite filet and pork chop was 80$ Not a bad place just not all that for 80$ Best of luck to those who try it, I hope you find it better than we did.

Food was overpriced, and not so good. The waiter went awol and we had to ask someone else for our check. Don't let the white table clothes fool you, we were disappointed.

Very good food, wonderful service

By 58DavidAthens |

We went to Old Vinings Inn for Sunday Brunch. It is in an interesting old historic building. They had a very nice cocktail and wine list, but we did not order drinks on this occasion. My wife had eggs benedict over crab cakes -- all wonderfully prepared. I had a huge piece of fried chicken with cheese grits and fruit -- very tender, moist chicken. Really good food. And the server, Sierra (sp?) was wonderful -- very helpful, friendly, efficient, and professional. We will certainly go back.

Classy restaurant near Cumberland

By Larry H |

We had one dinner here on a business trip to Cumberland. It is a 15 minute taxi ride from the Cumberland Mall area. The restaurant was in a nice old home with beautiful grounds. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with the menu. We ordered the "Lollipop Lamb Chops" medium, but they were delivered quite red (uncooked) in the middle. They graciously returned them to the kitchen and finished them off. Be sure to try the peach pie! Nicely done! Overall, a very nice evening in this romantic restaurant.
