Mixed Review

Very nice ambiance and excellent service. Waiting by team worked well. Three attendants were well informed and attentive. Well versed in the up sell, but not pushy about it. Food was uneven at best. Pork chop dish was excellent, but the paccheri had little in the way of eggplant. Sides included the kale and gbrussel sprouts. Both were OK, certainly not eyebrow raising. Complimentary bread was intentionally cold and a definite miss. Had piccoli piati. Crostini was very good, fried ravioli had little character, and the oyster special was good, not great. A nice dinner and evening out, but not particularly memorable.

Not at all good

By Sharon S |

I wanted this experience to be better. It is supposed to be a top rated restaurant here in Austin, but sadly it was not tonight. The ravioli was so under par- was wishing for Chef Boyardee. The 14 oz strip sirloin was not flavorful, not cooked well, not cooked to order and was a little cold. The veggies served with it were just wrong. Too much vinegar or some other weird flavor. The atmosphere is fine and you WANT to like it but the recipes and prep is totally subpar. They could also use more waitstaff. This is no longer a top restaurant in austin.

Lovey dinner and space

By USCKaboom |

We came to Olive & June a week ago for dinner. It’s a lovey space. The food was solid and the staff friendly. The pastas were particularly good. We skipped dessert as they didn’t seem to our liking.

Outside table. Friendly, prompt,attentive staff with excellent suggestions. D E L I C I O U S italian food. Would highly recommend.

food and service were a bit disappoiting

By J E |

Made reservations via Open Table. Got seated on the second floor by the bar in a booth. Order our drinks and the meatballs to start. Then had the Crostini. It was ok. Nothing special. I wouldn't order again. Then I ordered the linguine nero. My husband ordered the ravioli. Overall everything was ok. Nothing blew us away. The menu doesn't list nuts as an ingredient. The ravioli had walnuts in the dish but no where was that listed on the menu. If you have any allergies please ask the waiter and do not assume all ingredients are listed on menu. We wanted a second drink but it took forever for the waiter to come check on us. By the time he came we were almost finished with our dinner. My husband actually went ahead and ordered the drinks. They didn't arrive until we were finished with our entrée. By the time we were done the places was very loud. There was a large group celebrating a party. Our server was not their server so still not sure where he went for such a long period of time. They have food runners that bring you the food. I was pleased that they get you clean plates and silverware between courses. I am glad we tried it but not sure we will be back any time soon. Two starters, two entrees, two glasses of wine and two cocktails for $110 before tip. If we lived in the area this would be a great happy hour spot. Wine and a cheese board but not sure for it would be our go to place for dinner.

Have had better meals here in the past

By machalter |

Disappointed. Food was wilty looking, dining room smelled fishy, and portions tiny. That said in the past I've had great meals here. Service was lacking - no smiles, no fun, like in the past. I do like that the menu changes every time you go. Like that they take chances and try new things. Liked the monday night deal on appetizers and drinks. But expected more.

Magnificent meal! Very good service!

By Jay F |

Stopped in for dinner before a play and had a truly brilliant meal. Had Arancini with a light tomato sauce and Parme, a Beet Salad, Pistachio Risotto, Quail Saltimbaca, and Peach Panna Cotta. Every dish was outstanding. The Arancini were light, crispy and delicate which matched the relatively light, subtle sauce. The contrasting textures of the beet salad elevated it to be exspecially appealling. The Risotto was absolutely delicious as was the Panna Cotta. But the star of the show was the brilliant Quail Saltimbaca which was exceptional. Very good service. Lovely and appealling dining room. Highly recommended!

Great Italian food

We had a family dinner including a 7 year old. The staff were friendly and helpful. The meal was very tasty Italian food that is a cut above the Olive Garden variety. The wine was very good and the desserts excellent. Nice atmosphere. Friendly

great food

We went for a hosted 'event' - whisky tasting - and then stayed for dinner. Food was fabulous and they also had a great wine list.

Bar Service Rocks!

By Sarah H |

My husband and I were celebrating our first Valentine's Day together and decided last minute to go to a fun restaurant that we had always wanted to try. It was last minute, so we expected to be stuck in the bar. To be honest, I don't think we'd have switched for the dining room even given the chance to do so. Adam and Dustin were amazing! Very hospitable, very engaging. Made us custom drinks and answered all of our questions about our food and drinks. Their happy hour specials are killer and the two of them made our evening! Thank you so much!

Good Drinks in a great atmosphere but food a bit heavy and overpriced for what you get

By Pam I |

I was really excited about visiting Olive & June with a few girlfriends. I loved the decor and atmosphere instantly. The restaurant is somewhat modern but its balanced with cozy booths and a welcoming bar. I would recommend making a reservation (we visited on a Friday night and made a reservation and were seated right away). We all enjoyed a few drinks from the bar. The Melone was strong and not too sweet and the Margarita was perfect! I ordered the cheese & meat platter and was a bit disappointed in the selection. All of the cheeses were very strong and they all seemed to blend and overpower one another. The stracietella (antipasti) sounded so good but was totally overpowered by the pancetta. I could not taste the pecan, pear and balsamic that all sounded so appealing. Same story with the sides. the crispy acorn squash appeared to be deep fried and was very heavy. The swiss chard was okay but again, heavy with butter. When I had first read the menu, my mouth watered thinking of well prepared, fresh sides with great flavor combinations. I didn't find the freshness and balance of flavors I would've expected in my food. Despite this, I think I just ordered the wrong things and would give the restaurant another chance another time I'm in town.

Great place!

By Brochstein |

I've eaten here several times. My daughter & son-in-law had their wedding reception upstairs. The restaurant outdid themselves for the event. The food was fabulous. I've also purposely arrived in time for their happy hour menu and had a fabulous dinner at a very reasonable price. Their staff has always been attentive & fun. I tell all my friends to stop by when they are in Austin. It's a small place in central Austin so parking can be a bit of a problem. Very relaxed atmosphere -- it's Austin! But fresh & always changing local ingredients.

Pleasant Surprise

By Judy M |

This is a lovely contemporary restaurant with two levels of outdoor seating under a huge oak tree. We decided to sit inside because it was 100 degrees outside – good choice as the inside is nice and we had a view of the outside patio. Our party of four was promptly seated and our server appeared quickly to take drink orders and suggest appetizers. On Mondays the appetizers are half price all evening, so we had five different ones. They were small about a bite or two to each so we were not able to divide four ways. I ordered the special of the evening, gnocchi with lamb ragu, which was excellent. One in our party order the rabbit dish and it was also excellent. One of the entrée dishes was mixed up and without hesitation they comped it and promptly got the correct order out. We ordered three desserts, peach trio, rice pudding, and espresso gelato. All were exceptional. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. We will return to sample other menu choices.

Patios and Pasta

By Ashley R |

I want to start by saying, I appreciated the attention our server provided. His suggestions were spot on and we enjoyed our dinner. The patio is amazing and even though the indoor area is a little cozy, it was still a very intimate vibe. I had the red leaf salad, risotto with shrimp, sweet potatoes and roasted veggies. Very tasty! Everyone was satisfied with their flavorful meals, including the stuffed calamari.

Whimsy Abounds, Perfect for a Special Occaisons

By Kate H |

Because of the price and the general fussiness I would reserve this for a special occasion. The food is amazing! Delicious! Incredible! Try the starter-snackies which are cute and tasty. Our server was friendly but after a while our table wanted a bit more breathing room from the pomp and pressure. Delightful, whimsical and charming atmosphere. The only thing that put me off was the desserts which are huge in size compared to the not-Texan-huge main courses. In other words, it was a nice surprise to receive manageable portions for the main courses but then off putting to receive a dessert bowl that was just as big and possibly bigger than the main dish. The descriptions of the desserts on the menu are playful and appealing but overall - we felt - had way too much going on in reality. Wish I had shared. Go here and enjoy something completely unexpected, out of the ordinary and downright delish!

Farm to Table Restaurant

By goodchi |

Reservations are needed on weekends. Ask to be seat on the patio (gorgeous old oak tree) Inside seating is VERY noisy which makes it impossible to visit with dinner guests so plan on just eating, Portions are not large so you will need to 'order up' several ala carte items. Great valet parking makes coming and going pleasant.

Fabulous food,nice ambience

By Lynnmaui |

We had an exceptionally good Father's Day dinner for 8 here tonite. The outdoor patio features a huge 350 yr old live oak tree that provides shade for the whole area. We tried a number of dishes, none disappointed.Of special note was the saffron risotto, steak, rabbit, grilled octopus, beet salad, homemade sorbets and gelatos,Cheese cake and blueberry bombino. They have an extensive wine list and our server,Rafael, was extremely knowledgeable. We tried several of his recommendations and none disappointed. We'll definitely return.

High Class Patio Dining

By Prairiegal523 |

We enjoyed a relaxed meal under the hugh oak tree on an April evening. There is indoor seating but why? Striped bass, a light pasta dish, and kale made a perfect compliment to the evening. The wine selection is extensive and the waiter made excellent suggestions. I will return!

A bit of the North West Coast in Austin

By Nytex1130 |

I have to say; I felt like I stepped out of Texas and into Seattle when I entered O + J. A very boxy modern interior has been humanized with wonderful shelf antique displays which really softens the ambience. You can sit in or out on the patio and there is little visual separation which also seems very West Coast. Downstairs is elegant and the kitchen behind a larger glass picture window. Now, the food- started with the down side, a Bloody Maria with way too much Worchester and not nearly enough tequila. But it was up from there- great homemade bread served with butter drizzled with olive oil. It is possible to eat expensively but I went with a pasta special (braised rib tortellini) which was presented well and tasted as good as it looked. My side veggie was kale cooked with lemon. This is not the tenderest vegetable under the best of circumstances but the chewiness worked and forced me to savor it longer. The deserts are huge. I just tasted a companions Panna Cotta and it is the die for. Service a tad slower than the number of people would account for but we had a party of 9. A great special occasion restaurant and I will return although I'll have wine!

Great outdoor dining - fine happy hour!

By Scott M |

Enjoyed our meal and service by Stephen. The drinks and shared plates were all 1/2 off when we arrived, so enjoyed the fritto misto and the prosciutto plates, and the mezzaluna pasta with texas lamb, asparagus, spring onion caponata, parmesan brodo, pecorino . Delicious place on the edge of a nice part of Austin for happy hour, in particular.

A taste of Italy in Texas

By Jean M |

Located outside downtown Austin this Italian restaurant knows the Italian cuisine not the make believe but the one that makes you feel the taste of Italy with every bite you take. You cannot go wrong any dish you choose is the right one. if you want the specials come early otherwise they are go eat, a goo sign.

Very good Italian food

By Jay F |

We went to Olive and June hoping to get an Italian "fix" and we left pretty happy. The food was very good and wine prices were fairly good. We started with the Farm Egg over Polenta and the Seafood Fritto Mixto. The egg was very good and is reminiscent of things I have had in Italy. The seafood was excellent. We followed that with Spaghetti a la Norma and the Caviatelli (sp?). The Caviatelli were very good. The Spaghetti was good but was the least successful dish of the night. Service was quite personable and good. We will definitely go back.

That was a very personalize meal

By Alex N |

It's not very common for the exclusive chief to make a dish for a six year old one. Chief Brian created one as soon as we mentioned what our grandson likes - and it was done even before our food was ready!!!. Our food was delicious, we travel around the world, chippino is my wife's favorite dish - the one Brian does is probably the best she ever tried. My octopus dish was also one of the best I have tried. The whole atmosphere is very inviting, large outside patio, valet parking makes it a place to visit again, and recommend to others.

Not really sure....

By MICHAEL D |

Overall not what we expected from some of the positive reviews. Service was spotty, once seated very slow to come back to our table, waiter was not very attentive and also we had to ask for a dessert menu. Menu was somewhat lacking on choices and not that great. Meatballs were amazing as the ap but very little else stood out. Went on a Thursday evening at 6.30pm so place wasn't crowded inside or outside. Maybe an off night? Not sure if we will go back or not.

Fabulous authentic and flavorful Italian food

By sakshi_singhal |

Having spent a total of about 5 months in Italy over 4 different vacations, can tell you that the flavors here come close to Italian regions... Very nice ambience and high quality ingredients with a very good wine selection... Highly recommended!!

Nice Italian Sister to Parkside

By Chuck C |

We decided to try this Italian spot again...after a just,"ok" first trip. It was hitting on all cylinders this time. We were there during happy hour and were starving...ordering the organic farm egg with polenta, zucchini with mushrooms and raisins, mozzarella with cherries and figs, Grilled quail with pickled watermelon, and riccotta with eggplant and tomato...all very good. I also ordered cacio e peppe, which is off the menu, but excellent and an all-time favorite when ever I'm at an Italian spot. We also had ravioli with goat cheese and baked eggplant. The service this time was great and the happy hour helped with my first impression being a bit expensive. There are three levels to the restaurant and a tree incorporated in the center.

Great food

By beckibrink@gmail.com |

We went on a very rainy Friday night. The service and the food were great. It was a very nice and cozy night for us. We enjoyed watching the families with small children in the dining room.

Great for a date or double date - delightful atmosphere

By drea2000 |

I went here on a double date and the food and service were terrific. Delightful and charming atmosphere but not pretentious at all.

Beautiful restaurant

By Summer TX Traveler |

Everything we had here was excellent! Some of our courses were the beet salad, mushroom croquette, risotto, green beans, carrots, quail, and monkfish. Fresh pasta was perfectly prepared. Attentive service, highly recommend this beautiful multi-level restaurant.

Flavorful food

By RWG2020 |

We went for the special "Sunday Night Dinner" tonight which consisted of four courses, of which two are appetizers, a pasta dish of mussels and sausage and lamb shanks over vegetables as a final course. With the exception of one of the appetizers all the dishes were well prepared and very flavorful. We particularly liked the lamb which was brazed to perfection, soft and meaty. The portions were large and we went home with enough for lunch to. At $36 pp it a great bargain.

Nice change of pace for special occasions

By originalsix |

When you are ready for something different to celebrate a special occasion, this is a great choice. Were it not for TripAdvisor, I would have never thought to go here. It's almost like they are trying to hide it, to keep it a secret. First of all, you can't even read the red lettered sign from a car, and secondly, the restaurant is inside an two-story 1960's? era condo/office building. Once inside, or outside on the back patio, you start to get the feeling that the experience will be a good one. There were lots of couples and friends chatting over their meals, candles though out. The short menu has enough variety, and required some help from the staff to figure out exactly what some of the exotically worded items were. Like Jarred W mentioned, the food is in the very good range. What I appreciated was the selection, the ingredients, and the hand-made quality of pasta and other items. Dessert was good, although the torta was dry... the gelato was "wow!" The service was excellent. We will be back. The parking lot is small, and we just used the complementary valet (tipped).

So good. Drooling on my keyboard.

By CeliacExplorer |

My friend and I went to this this restaurant, because I had read that they had gluten-free pasta. And then I ordered the risotto. Parmesan, pesto, with the most amazing onions. I would do it all over again. So, so, so good. It has been a long time since I stuffed myself to the point of pain, and I regret nothing. As an appetizer, I ordered the polenta with the fried egg. (Carbfest, I know.) Fantastic. I can't wait to go back. My friend had the brussels sprouts, which she loved, and the bucatini amatriciana (spelling?), which she also stuffed herself with because she loved it so much. Josh, our server, was excellent. I hope we get him the next time we go. (Also, I am celiac and felt fine after eating here. I did not try the gluten-free pasta, but I would . . . unless they are still serving that risotto!)

Unique Dishes

By dawnmbent |

We went on Mother's Day to celebrate my granddaughter's birthday. They had a planned menu. The food was delicious! The appetizer was a Duck egg cooked in the center of a thick slice of homemade bread. I had never had Duck egg before and it was absolutely wonderful! The next course was a wonderful salad with a unique dressing. Then the third course was homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach. For the main course you had your choice of Whitefish or suckling pig. Since I had never had suckling pig previously I tried that. It was very good. I need to go back to see and try there regular menu as the Mother's Day choices were definitely not for everyone. They went out of their way to prepare delicious vegetable plate with a wonderful sauce for my vegan granddaughter. My other granddaughter wasn't crazy about the choices so they made her a plain pasta dish. The desert was very good and they even had something vegan. They gave us complimentary mini croissants to leave with. Our waiter was from Australia I believe and was very funny and very good. We had a wonderful time

Limited But Tasty Menu

By Shanghyper |

We had high expectations for this place, which were at least partially met during our meal. We went as a party of four and were able to try a pretty good percentage of their dinner offerings, which are rather limited. Everything was tasty, though nothing really exceptional. Servings were generous. Decent wine list. Wait staff was friendly and our meals were served in good time. The atmosphere is just fine, though it is very loud (definitely a place to go if you're looking for quiet conversation). Price was on the higher side, but not unreasonably so. It could be worth a second visit.

A very good place to eat

By Boyd M |

I did a quick google search and Olive and June came up as a good restaurant. Gave it a go and wasn't disappointed at all. Food was spot on as was the service. We had dessert and it was icing on the cake! excellent and wasnt too sweet! I dont know if I will go back but I will recommend it. Only drawback is parking. It is limited.

Great place in central Austin

By Kathy D |

I feel like I need to start these reviews by saying that I was born and raised in Austin. I also don't cook, so we eat out every night with at least a couple of our six kids. That gives you an little insight on where I'm coming from. No need to deal with downtown or South Congress parking to find a great upscale restaurant to dine at. Olive and June is one of favorite places to eat in Austin. I would say it is in my top 10. The most important thing is the food is consistently excellent! The Farm Egg dish is one of my favorite dishes I have had anywhere, hands down. We usually end up ordering two. They also take reservations. This is not one of the places I take my two year old. The atmosphere is great, but not what I'd call kid friendly. If you haven't gone, go.

Special

By BobtheBuilder39 |

Celebrated a big, big anniversary here - our first time. We were totally impressed. Excellent selection and good wine. We will return. I typically have a filet mignon, but had a strip. It was tasty and tender. The sauce was excellent.

A very special Mother's Day Luncheon

By NewYorkLonghorn |

Olive & June is a new restaurant in a familiar location. This is central Austin and yet, once you have complimentary valet parked and entered the restaurant, the city disappears. The patio is shaded under old oak trees and several paths lead into the different interior levels of the restaurant. We had the prix fixe menu which was delicious, varied and sufficient. This is not a restaurant where you "stuff yourself" but rather where you savor each dish. The meal was served family style and started out with a frittata, a type of pizza on filo dough, and a salad nicoise with tuna. We then were treated to linguini with a pesto sauce. The pesto was delicious and not greasy. We then had trout with green beans and potatoes. The meal was capped with a marvelous hazelnut mocha mousse. The dish was rich yet light and a perfect ending to a delightful meal. The meal itself was $36.00 per person which was a very fair price considering the quantity and quality of the food served. If you are planning on enjoying Olive & June, I would strongly suggest reservations be made.

somewhere between "average" and "very good"

By Jarred W |

Not "average," not "very good," but "good." Food tasty, though a little salty; service mediocre - our waitress was nice and attentive, but seemed spacey and forgot a few things; menu was interesting- there were a lot of items on it, and it was sometimes difficult to gauge whether it was an entre or starter or side (I mean, I know that's the way that Italian food works, but these different items were spread out all over the menu and I got confused). I really liked the atmosphere (it may have been the 3 glasses of wine), and I'll definitely go back and give it another try.

Good food, great outdoor dining.

By TripNAustin |

We started outside with drinks and meat and cheese tray. The Sgroppino drink was very good. Wine and cheese tray was also great. I had the lobster risotto for dinner. Nothing extraordinary but very good. My husband had the sea bass and enjoyed it very much. I was not crazy about the grilled squash for the side dish. The Frozen Mascarpone dessert was excellent. The outdoor area under the huge oak tree is really nice. Service was excellent.

True Love

By cinnamongirl2 |

We were in Austin to visit friends. They brought us to what I consider one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a very long time. We had several small plates to start. All were very good. My main plate was stuffed rabbit loin which was cooked to perfection. I don't see rabbit on a menu often so when I do, I order it. My husband had the veal which was also perfectly cooked. We split a side of green beans...all just perfect. They had an excellent wine selection by the glass which paired well with the food. For dessert I had a peach trio with angel food cake, sorbet and candied peaches...yummy. My husband had an espresso gelato and panna cotta which were equally as good. We sat indoors which was loud, but a good trade off because it was very hot outside. In fact I felt sorry for a couple of the waiters because they were in long sleeve white jackets and drenched in perspiration. That was the only unappetizing part of the evening. We will most definitely go back again.

Good food, but very, very noisy

By rainh2o2014 |

I'm gluten intolerant and the really nice thing about Olive and June is they have gluten-free options on almost every pasta with the exception of ravioli and similar dishes. I had the rigatoni and it was excellent. The only down side I see to the place is that it is exceptionally noisy. So loud in fact that you have to strain to hear the person sitting across from you. Forget trying to understand someone 2 or 3 seats away. For me, the food is only half of going to dinner. The other half is enjoying the conversation between friends and family.

Food and Experience Approach 5 Stars

By Jay F |

Went for dinner with friends and shared seven plates. it was happy hour so all food was half priced! A great bargain. The Arancini were crispy and outstanding. Both the Crab Bruschetta and the Tuna Conserva Salad were very good. The complimentary bread and butter were good, as always. The Agnelotti were very good but the Mezzalipuna filled with butternut squash and the Shrimp Capellini were outstanding as was the Gulf Red Snapper. (Beautifuly prepsredwith crisp skin and marvelous flavor. The Brussel Sprouts were a good and popular side. Very good service. Good and interesting wines at reasonable prices (about 2.5xRetail). Appealling space. Hughly recomended

Not so great

By annaottilie |

Food was disappointing. It had some good reviews at this site, which is why we chose it. Some of you need to eat at a really good restaurant so you will know Truly Good food. Nothing from the appetizer to dessert was that great here. Service wasn't so great either. Go to Congress.

Family Friendly

By TK14 |

Olive & June is a family friendly kind of setting serving great drinks and homemade pasta. The cheese tray appetizer is worth trying and the pasta dishes are fabulous. We were disappointed with the tilefish but the deserts made up for it. Love the outside seating atmosphere but August is too hot to try. The staff worked adequately as a team and we weren't rushed through our meal. Not 5 stars but a fun & causal place which we enjoyed.

Great Ambiance, Vibrant Atmosphere

By KARXPRT |

On a balmy night, Olive & June is delightful. Filled with Austin's SXSW crowd, the atmosphere is upbeat and "happenin'". Service is very responsive, but avoid the fish.

Delicious and fun

By GRLwood |

We went after a meeting for dinner and drinks. We were in a large group, so they were expecting us. The service was excellent. The entire staff was accommodating and polite. The food was also superb. I highly recommend if you're in the area.

Family Event with a space to ourselves

By Samiamiu |

Food was pre-ordered for almost 40 people. Staff was present throughout the time before seating with appetizers and beverages. Attentive and pleasant. When we were seated, food arrived promptly. The bar was well stocked and bartenders knew what they were doing. I would go back again if I hadn't traveled 1000 plus miles to attend. Certainly would go back when I visit Austin in the future.

No outside wine

By drmader |

Food was delicious, we tried the steak, red snapper , peach /tomato salad and meatballs.. everything was perfectly prepared , timely, service perfect. We took Home the choc olive oil cake..dense flourless tort w hint of Orange liqueur..delish. We came for an anniversary And brought a bottle of wine, but they don’t open outside bottles so that was disappointing and we didn’t recognize the wines on their list, but the waitress had us sample a few and we needed up w delicious san giovese and a montapuliciano ..both yummy... she did a great job. A thunder storm surely flood the dining areas w soaked patio guests and water combing in so things got hectic ..but staff sprang into action, RE settling people, getting fresh drinks.. impressed how kind and welcoming they all were . It’s a funky little building on a corner ..I would say our only constructive critique would be that w 3 entry doors, back steps, various dining areas -it felt disjointed . Like it was a house that was converted ? Furniture/lighting and oddly taped up linen on ceilings just wasn’t cohesive . They had lovely dishes and cloth napkins, but perhaps a paint job and clean up w a plan inside and out would help. Outside is cement w red lights, and an up and down patio..small lot w a valet... once rain storm hit, everything’s as slippery and we felt disoriented on how to get out, it was dark and wet and people were by every exit. ...ambiance just needed an upgrade, bathrooms and bar did too. Nana walls of windows instead of sliders? And perhaps all employees in a matching house shirt and jeans or something a bit more professional /cohesive to elevate the look /ambiance. Food and service great.. so with a few tweaks this place is top notch, in a an easy walk neighborhood. Great to have a welcoming like home neighborhood restaurant, but in Austin where your dining options are endless , making an impression on diners so they return again and again is probably a goal. Thank you for a fun evening

Large business group dinner - perfect Austin vibe!

By Austin_TexasRedhead |

We had a group of 35 business colleagues that needed a location for dinner with good food, a set menu (with a few choices) and a cool Austin vibe. Olive and June's delivered with outstanding service, delicious food and drinks, and a neat location on the upstairs terrace 'in the trees." Would highly recommend.

The Best From Scratch Pasta!

By Susan M |

First, let me say this is a beautiful restaurant! This is the perfect place to take a date, or a mother or anyone you want to feel special. From the beautiful courtyard, the fine dining area and the upstairs bar, this place is visually pleasing. Don't let me get started on the pasta... this is the best pasta I have tasted outside of Italy. Their awesome happy hour that is weekdays from 5p to 6p puts everything on the menu, I believe at half price, so you can get an amazing plate of chef prepared pasta for $10, unheard of! I love this place

Loveliness

By Todd S |

I'm absolutely in love with Olive and June. I've been a regular of thier Sunday dinner for years and have had an exception meal every time. (However I do wish that they would bring back desert.) Happy Hour is also a fantastic time to have a cocktail and sit under the canopy of trees. A true treasure!

Pleasant Experience

By BojanglesAustin |

First time dining here. The menu, essentially Italian, was diverse and very creative. The food was very good; everyone had different appetizers and entrees, all of which were enjoyable. The desserts were also good. The pasta, bread, desserts and some of the liqueurs are all made in house. Our servers were also excellent: very informative and accommodating. The ambience is good, with dining on two or three levels. We shall definitely return for dinner again.

Highly recommend! Best dining experience!

By NancyLovesWine |

This is by a far margin the best meal I've had since I've arrived in Austin, TX. The bespoke cocktails were amazing and sophisticated (try the Cicero). The bartender was friendly and gave excellent recommendations. But the biggest tip I could give a fellow foodie is to try the handmade pasta. Incredible! This is pasta very tastefully done and not drowned in a heavy cream sauce. The flavors were so apparent & yummy! The last time I had pasta this light and well made was in Italy. The owner, Ken, came by to introduce himself & to make sure everyone was pleased with their experience. Thank you!! I'll be back, Ken! TIP: Their happy hour is an incredible deal!

Cooking was off

By AnAnthropologist |

The food sounded better than it tasted- the cooking was off. I started with the polenta but the so called poached egg on top of it was virtually raw- the white was clear and runny and not sufficiently cooked at all. If it hadn’t been a business dinner, I would have sent it back. Ironically, the agnolotti I ordered was hard and under cooked. Very disappointing for a place supposedly known for pasta. Our server was outstanding but unfortunately I don’t know her name and it wasn’t on the receipt.

Sunday dinner

By bbahama |

We had a very enjoyable sunday prix fixe dinner with a wonderful bottle of Kermit Lynch Cote de Rhone. Appetizer, Salad, pasta and main course were all well prepared and proportioned. The two dining areas were attractive and well designed. You will not be disappointed.

Delicious Farm to Table Dinner

By lsfcmh |

Very cool, creative seasonal cocktails infused with fresh herbs--delicious. Homemade charcuterie and cheeses, perfectly seasoned raw fish, homemade gnocchi, cheese dessert terrine. Service a bit overly solicitous but very well meaning and friendly. Very laid back, after work, business casual. Great outdoor space.

Comfortable, good food!

By Jay F |

Stopped in for happy hour. Half price food and wine by the glass. Shared a spectacular Fritto Mixto. Then had two very good pasta dishes, one with lamb and one with octopus. And four glasses of wine. Very good food. Good service . Recommended!

Thumbs up!

For those who love outdoor dining, Olive & June offers a lovely, central city option - outdoor dining under giant oak trees in a large, enclosed patio. From the appetizer menu, the Zucchini Involtini ($10), made with zucchini, mushrooms, pinenuts and golden raisins, was absolutely mouth-watering. The pork meatball appetizer ($11), spiked with figs, was hands-down delicious. The appetizer portion sizes were huge, six ample meatballs. And the Zucchini Involtini was served in a long, boat-shaped plate. The portions were so large that there was no room for a full-fledged dinner or dessert. Yet, I look forward to dining here again to try other menu items. I was initially skeptical about dining here because the restaurant is located in a congested area with very limited parking options. Not to worry, the restaurant's complimentary valet parking operates at lightning speed, due to parking agreements reached with other businesses. Thumbs up on this one.

Outstanding restuarant.

Wonderful restaurant. Party of eight. Small menu, but exquisite choices. Family style dinner, great food, variety, and quality. Waiter was a bit distant, managed to shatter a glass, not bring ordered coffee when ordered...but he provided good guidance on wines and food choices. Not terribly attentive during meal...but certainly adequate for our group. Strange that he asked us to fill out the comment card at the end and give him positive reviews.

Amazing Patio!

By Buddy O |

Had a lovely evening here for my wife's birthday with friends. We sat outside not the patio which was pretty special. Perfect atmosphere. Food was sooooo Good. The Egg on the Polenta was easily the star of the starter plates. Wife and I split the ravioli pasta and bass entree which was cooked to perfection. Loved our experience and we will be back for sure.

Girl's Night Out

By Sabrina A |

My best friend and I went here for dinner for a girl's night out. We sat outside under the huge tree. It was so pretty but the amount of air from the fans was crazy! Everything was blowing all over the table. Our waitress was really great. She picked out the best bottle of wine to compliment our meal. We started with 3 of their small bites, and loved the fried risotto ball. My friend had basically spaghetti and meatballs, which she said was delicious. I had the pasta with salami sauce. It was decent but I didn't love it. For dessert, we got the bombolini (fried doughnuts). My friend really enjoyed them but I thought they were just okay. Overall, Olive and June is very cute and has a nice atmosophere, but I had a hard time believing our $140 was worth the amount of food we got (in fairness, $50 of the bill was the bottle of wine). It was just a bit pricey considering all the options Austin has to offer.

Casual with excellent cuisine

By ConciergeInNewYork |

This is a favorite restaurant of our friends and now I know why. It's casual but the food is a step up. Delicious regional Italian. The swordfish was pretty great. The duck was first rate but the rabbit risotto was the standout. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. If I lived in Austin I would be a regular.

Great Food, Great Cocktails, Amazing Desserts

By anna m |

Wonderful food, lots to choose from. The cocktails are imaginative, delicious, and very strong. Desserts are as large as an entree and constructed of many elements. One day I hope to have one all to myself. The wait staff is very professional yet relaxed.

Happy Hour!

By Susan M |

Nice ambiance! Very foo foo.. I can smell the old money here. I could see coming here after my Pilates workout. For a quick bite, before I head off to shopping at the Domain. Funny thing is - it's just a short distance from Shoal Creek Psychiatric Hospital. Our waiter reminded me of Michael Caine.

Good but not great

By Foodiscoo |

I have been to this restaurant 3 times now and feel as though I can provide a legitimate review. Coming from the east coast, I am very familiar w good Italian food. Olive and June serves Decent italian food at a hiked up price point. The location is nice, service is excellent, and the drinks are good. But the food.... I don't know what it is, but it doesn't do it for me. The entrees are so small, which almost contradicts what Italian cooking is all about. If the entrees were a little lest costly I wouldn't mind as much. But paying 28 dollars for 14 bites of food doesn't really make sense.

A Very Good Dining Experience

By AshhKatt |

A friend and I shared numerous "small plates" at Olive & June recently. The weather was cool, so we dined inside; the atmosphere is much nicer outside. That said, the food was tasty, portions extremely small and expensive, service was excellent. I think the Sunday "fixed price" dinner is the way to go. We will go back, but not often.

Like dining in a gourmet treehouse

By Tina W |

Loved, loved, loved our dinner - only misstep was an August reservation for an outside table at 7:15 vs 7:45. But once the sun dipped behind the tree, it was divine. Our server, Alex, was quick with recommendations. (Note: I always appreciate and trust a server who doesn’t encourage you to get the most expensive thing on the menu.) Alex didn’t rush us at all, so we enjoyed cocktails and the scrumptious housemade bread and ricotta before ordering apps. The tomato-peach salad was probably my favorite bite. Summer flavor explosion! And the fritto misty was just lovely - not too heavy on the batter, and the veg thrown in added great balance. My husband and I both opted for pasta as mains. Small (read: APPROPRIATE!) portion sizes vs. gargantuan American entrees. The texture of the bucatini was perfectly toothsome, and my husband’s tagliatelle almost melted on the tongue. I love this place!!

Private Room Off Kitchen /Birthday Dinner Party of 8

By AnnIrwin |

Lovely private room and white table cloth ambiance for a "Restaurant" Birthday Dinner. Each guest enjoyed their authentic, fresh meal. The caesar salad had plenty of fresh garlic and the cream style shrimp and capellini was delicious.

Original, fresh & delicious

By Tricia M |

Inventive take on Italian cuisine. palate pleasing food, nice casual atmosphere with friendly & knowledgeable wait staff. It was too hot for the patio the day we dined but with both uptstairs patio & downstairs looked very inviting. Original cocktails offered with one dollar going to Mudville Charity for senior dogs the day we were there...now that is something I can drink to!

Great dinner

By Gavin G |

Excellent food and wine dining outside in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Shared starters really tasty as was my pappardelle with meatballs

Want to like it more

By bk_aus |

Great off the beaten path locale with beautiful big oak tree and charming patio. Appetizers of heirloom tomato salad and crostini with hummus were fresh and quite tasty - solid 4.5 stars. Glass of Pinot Grigio though pricey hit the spot on a hot evening. Quite disappointed with mains - hake (fish) and eggplant ravioli. Fish was heavy without much flavor and for $29 bucks I expected more. Eggplant ravioli was good but just nothing exceptional .... bit dry. Would come back to enjoy the outdoor ambiance and apps/drinks but will save my money for entrees elsewhere.

Very nice!

By Gary T |

We visited about 6 PM on a Friday night and were seated right away. There are three things that are really nice about visiting around that time and they are; 1) The valet is wide open and your car gets parked right on the street 2) The restaurant is not yet crowded and you would be able to get a table w/o a reservation (we had a reservation) 3) Happy hour lasts until 6:30 and appetizers and bar drinks or beer are 1/2 price On this night we shared a "Seafood Fritto Misto" appetizer and it was delicious. It had shrimp, bite sized fish chunks and calamari all lightly breaded and fried with some agrula on top and served with a tasty dipping sauce. For mains we had the "Bucatini" and "Lamb Leg". Both were delicious and seasoned perfectly. The "Bucatini" has a bit of a bite from the spicy Italian peppers and will likely be my "go to" disk there over time. The lamb was cooked perfectly, and plated with three small collections of different veggies that presented some delightful contrasts in flavor. Service was by A--- and impeccable! This was our second visit and there will be many more. Checking out was a bit of an issue as their computer had crashed.

Wedding Reception

One of the Best!

By Kapssg |

WOW! it was so good I forgot to take photos. We had Bucatini with meatballs and it was great! The pork cheek added a great flavor to the sauce. My wife and I didn't like sweet potato's but the Chief had us try the Charred Sweet Potato's and OMG they where Awesome, I'll get them again. We have a new Regular Favorite place to eat at in Austin!

Favourite restaurant to walk to

By Cremagrande |

We love to walk down to our Neighbourhood romantic hot spot. The service is always exceptional, the menu changes with the Seasons and the wine and drinks Creative. Of course we are partial to Olive and June we walk there!

Pricy but. Good

By gtsyldy |

I. Found myself unexpectedly nearby. I. had a gift card that I had sitting around for past couple of years after was comped from a prior. Visit. Just after opening.. Well things have changed.. I started. Out with a beet salad well balanced and colorful followed by. A butternut squash saffron risotto. There were nice sized chunks of squash in. A creamy risotto just perfectly cooked. Saffron was there but not overpowering and overall quite filling. No need to order a full Italian course of antipasta/primo (pasta) / secundo etc.. This was quite filling as a main course size ((you can order as such) What is really. Unique is their house made 'cello'. Instead of lemon was strawberry... Oh my... Like a liquid dessert not. Too sweet and nicely floral too full to get dessert but they did look. Good as well..

Average

By Elizabeth A |

The food was good but not exceptional. Our bruschetta was burnt and my pasta had a tsp of sauce. Waitstaff was nice but attire does not reflect the atmosphere or prices. Frumpy sweatshirts and tie dye jeans gives off a way too casual if not dirty vibe. Have been here in the past…..and it’s definitely not the same.

Nice Food, Nice People

By Marion M |

Our second time at this eatery and they do a very nice job. When they say Italian they are serious - not much non-Italian on the menu of note. They have a nice wine list and on a very busy night the service was excellent. We will return.

Love, love, love

By Chach63 |

Honestly - we are going to this place at least once a week. The small plates are to die for. Excellent cocktails. The Sunday fixed menu is always delicious. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly and fast. I took 3 friends in to try it out last week for happy hour and we sat in the bar patio and the server was terrible. Ignored us and screwed up every order and actually walked away WHILE we were ordering. She never once smiled at us or asked how things were. I was so shocked that I didn't really react. All I could do was sit and tell my friends that she was NOT the norm at Olive and June. 2 of them said they'd come back for the food - one said she'd never choose food over rotten service. A real shame because from the wonderful valet to the hostesses to the servers in the dining room(s) everyone else is wonderful. We made reservations last month there for our anniversary and had asked to sit outside under the GIANT tree and the manager called me to say she thought it was a little chilly - would we like to move inside? I said yes, thanks, and when we arrived she had some yummy proseco sent out to us. Have the fish spiedini - you'll go back again and again just for it.

Long wait for the table but Worth it..

By Alisha F |

They were very busy the night we can and in fairness we were 10 for dinner , But we did make reservations on open table so the wait was a bit excessive, Having said that its a beautiful venue with a tree that is literally growing thru the restaurant. We had some drinks and enjoyed the scenery (there is a very nice burger king across the street. ) Actually they had a great bar upstairs and we had a few drinks while we waited so no big deal. Food was outstanding , we ordered almost all the appetizers and each was exceptional, standouts were the polenta in our opinion but everything was great. All the mains were outstanding , and the waitstaff explained everything well. Only exception being the bucatini with the calabrese pepper was a bit more spicy then we were told, but if you like spicy it was awesome. We even did desert rounds and the panna cotta was like silk. Would definitely recommend.

Meh

By Maria S |

Beautiful setting as you come into courtyard of the restaurant and it showed promise when we arrived. We chose to dine inside because it was still hot outside. The upstairs inside smelled a little of mildew so we asked to be seated downstairs. We couldn’t see our waiter right after we were served our starter and when we finally saw her and asked for pepper with our starter she did not bring it. We had to remind her and when it finally arrived the Polenta was cold. The Polenta was good but needed a little pepper that was all. Main course was Gluten free Carbonara. The bacon was crispy but with a lot of fatty pieces and the pasta was over cooked. My son’s kids pasta was ok but the chicken was a little over cooked. Others had ordered a fish meal that was actually nice and the pork loin I was told was good too. The waiter was not overly enthusiastic to be there and the fact that left us waiting for pepper was annoying. Afterwards when the bill came 20% tip had already been added to the bill. This restaurant could be so much more. It thought it was so much more but didn’t live up to it. The interior was in need of a facelift. Some walls were some kind of pressed painted insulated walls and the doors into bathrooms were shabby/worn looking at the bottom. Bathrooms were ok but not extravagant. Overall this restaurant was not great. It was expensive for what you get and the meals were inconsistent in quality. If you’re going to offer gluten free pasta carbonara for $18 then you definitely need to make it special. This was not, unfortunately.

One of my Austin Favorites

By Richard F |

I simply cannot believe I have not reviewed Olive & June yet, as it is my my and my partner's favorite spot for a romantic night out in Austin. So many positives, where to begin. First, free valet parking, which is very helpful, as there's not a lot of good parking there to be had. Second, the beautiful outdoors; the building is centered around the most wonderful tree. Third, easy reservations, that always work out when you show up with no wait. Fourth, the drink menu. Solid and varied. The house cocktails are really nice, but if you decide you want something classic such as a Negroni, no problem. And finally there's the food. Yum. Well presented Italian. Their Bucatini is a fixture on the menu, and is lovely. It's become my 'go to'. It's a smaller menu, which I think is a very good sign of a place taking their food seriously. Desserts are nice there, and surprisingly substantial. Most are easily shareable. Lastly, a shout out to their happy hour - half price cocktails and shareable plates (do not miss the meatballs). Hard to pass up. My only gripe is it can get noisy in some of the rooms, as the restaurant seems to often have larger tables of 8-12 in. However, just roll with it. The good service and fine wines will help take your mind off it... enjoy.

Atmosphere OK, Food lackluster, Service good.

By Lunny1 |

The restaurant istels was different with a 50's sort of vibe. Happy hour 1/2 price wine on certain less expensive wines. I had the cappellini. Pesto mint with lump crab and crab fingers. The pasta was over cooked, and there was no lump crab and 3 tiny carb fingers, Service was good. Pork chops were good. Appetizers were so so. I would not call this a top restaurant in Austin.

Delicious Italian in the land of Tex-Mex and BBQ

By Christie B |

Went to Olive & June last night for a birthday party! There were so many highlights including the free bubbly for the birthday girl! The Fried Sunchokes with aioli were a great starter small plates as well as the Swordfish Spiedini! The farm egg was also delicious with fresh mushrooms. We all opted for homemade pasta dishes and they didn't disappoint! Both the white sauce and red sauce were beyond delicious! The Gemili (spelling?) was the highlight! For desert the donuts with gelato! Definitely a must stop if you can pull yourself away from Tex-Mex and BBQ!!

Excellent dinner, well worth it for special occasions.

By glennroid |

We had dinner here for the first time for our 20th Anniversary. It's a nice little place, right off Mopac with "complimentary" valet parking. There aren't a lot of things on the menu but it's obvious everything is very well thought out. We had a marvelous young server, Aiden. He answered a few questions. My wife had a glass of wine. We ordered two different seafood dishes to share. We got some very nice, fresh bread with seasoned butter. The first dish was seared scallops. They were cooked perfectly with quite a few different herbs and veggies. We each had 3-1/2 marvelous tasting scallops. The second dish was a crab pesto pistachio pasta. dish. Two beautiful (and delicious) blue crab claws (with the shell removed and meat exposed). This dish was perfect too. Just the right mix of flavors and they went together perfectly. We were "convinced" to try a free dessert for our anniversary. They brought out some fabulous vanilla custard with shaved hibiscus ice on top. Again, the flavors mixed perfectly. All-in-all a terrific experience for a special occasion. The place is nice, very comfortable feeling. Service was great with everyone so attentive but not overly so (which can be more annoying than poor service).

Unremarkable - Pricey

By Chris500 |

This is an updated review. Had dinner here on 05/24/17. Service excellent. Food just ok. Had the Ravioli. It was cold. Nothing remarkable. Pricey! Noise level high from little kids with families. I counted half the tables had kids under 2 and they were bouncing off the walls. This used to be a nice place for drinks and dinner from a more mature crowd. Not anymore. If you want a cozy atmosphere you'll have to find it somewhere else.

Great Wine Selection

By Vira C |

I love this place, I visited twice now, both the times it was a great experience, Loved the wine selections and their sommelier Paul. He is amazing! make sure to ask for his recommendations when you are there.. I love the outdoor patio sitting area..

Good food in a great environment

By John R |

A classy restaurant in a great environment serving excellent food. It dose not matter on which level you sit the service is great. The staff are very warm and accommodating.

Excellent dinner!

By Robert L |

Just back from a rock solid meal - we started with the Pork Meatballs - excellent want to get into the meal! Followed that with sharing the lamb tortellini in Brodo- deliciousness and then split a tagliatelle with a fantastic beef sauce and wrapped up the meal with chocolate cannoli ‘s- Olive has the best Italian wine list in Austin and after spending a month in Tuscany this past spring it was great to see the range of their selections. The restaurant is VERY comfortable with solid service to back up the great food. You can’t go wrong and I’d easily add this to a top-10 for Austin dining! Oh, did I mention that every pasta is made fresh each day and trust me, you can really tell the difference!

Good

By ButBeuatiful |

I can't rave about this restaurant. Ambience is nice. Wait staff were really attentive and helpful in making selections. My drum fish was really tasty but my husband found his lamb a bit bland and ordinary. The best of the evening was a superb Oregonian Pinot noir and the frisée chicory salad, which we found memorable.

Growing to be one of our faves.

By Jay F |

Came in to have their Austin Restaurant Weeks menu: Mushroom Croquet, Gemelli with Italian Sausage, and Monkfish. All very good. Almost 5 star but the monkfish was a bit overdone. Really good food. Not over the top but really comforting. Good wines - half price by the glass on Mondays. This is becoming one of our faves.

Outstanding Sunday Supper & Good Service.

By Jay F |

Stopped in for dinner after a play. We were planning to have the special three course Austin Restaurant Weeks dinner menu but the staff talked us into their three course Sunday Supper menu. First course was excellent herb zeppole (puffs) filled with goat cheese with a wonderful pickle relish. Sounds weird but really good. Second course was an exceptional Ratatouille lasagna. And finished with an excellent tile fish over a bed of vegetables and sweet potato puree. Overall a great meal. The kitchen showed a great deal of competence. Service was great. Highly recommended!

You must try it

By jenchelt |

My husband and I ate here on the first night of our visit to Austin. I was wavering because it was a bit of a drive from our hotel and I wasn't sure it would be worth the hike. It turned out to be a cheap uber ride away and we got to see some of the town outside of our hotel. We arrived and I was already charmed from the moment I spotted the sign from the street. Cute, charming and welcoming! We were lucky enough to be seated in a lovely table outside under the gorgeous tree and cafe lights. Our waiter was delightful and very helpful with suggesting what to order. He did not steer us wrong. We loved every single dish (the egg dish, the fish special, the pasta!!). We had a very special meal and I only wish that we lived closer so that we could return again soon.

Not very Italian

By Dell L |

After Italian food in Chicago or New York, this just does not pass for great Italian cuisine. It was good but the flavors were not robust. Nice beet salad. I had linguine with muscles. I thought the linguine would have true Italian flavor but was too buttery. The patio is great, nice trees and a very attentive staff. The people watching was terrific. Price for Austin is about average for a trendy, north-side eatery. Not sure if I will be back. I'd like to try for a more authentic menu and taste.

Great outdoor patio

By Greg W |

Good atmosphere at this restaurant. It has a good outdoor patio and the food is also good. Although somewhat unusual for my taste. The atmosphere is the selling point. Otherwise, with all the good restaurants They have ain Austin I wouldn't come back.

Couples Dinner

By Ken M |

First visit to this unique restaurant tucked away in Central Austin. Menu is eclectic southern Italian and unique. Don't go expecting large portions and heavy red sauces. Moderately + priced. Had a fairly new but very good waiter and a great Amarone vino. Everyone enjoyed.

The food is not worth being discriminated

By Diep P |

I have been to this establishment few times in the past for special occasion and happy hours specials. The food is decent and service is nothing to rave about. Due to the recent experience, I will never recommend or return to this place again. I called the restaurant to make reservation and the person on the other end would not take my reservation instead direct me to open table. One negative mark noted. As I drove up to the restaurant and saw that there’s parking in the restaurant parking lot. I parked and the valet attendant told me I can’t park there. It’s reserved for valet parking only and I can self park few blocks down the street (the street was dark at the time). So, I had to valet the car for safety purposes. Technically it’s not complimentary, you need to give a decent tip. I walked into the restaurant with my mask. Sat down and had my cocktail when I noticed few ladies walked into the enclosed area in the restaurant with no masks. I’m fine with that I figured what’s the difference since they’ll be taking off the mask when sitting down. We were done with dinner and paid. Our table was literally next to the door exit to the outdoor patio so I zipped out without my mask and was planning to put it back on when I enter the down stairs enclosed area. I haven’t gotten to the stairs heading downstairs I was chased down by a “gentleman” and told that the policy requires that I need to put on my mask as long as I’m at the establishment. I pointed to my mask in my purse which I was about to put it on. I didn’t make a big deal to avoid further embarrassment. There’s no need for me to be chased down like that and put in an embarrassment situation when the mandate clearly stated the mask is required in an enclosed facility and not outside. I was outside. Remember earlier I saw group of ladies walked in with no mask and no one said anything to them. The “ gentleman” was in the same area at that time. By coincidence they were all blondes. I felt embarrassed and bluntly discriminated. I will never returned to this establishment and will discourage all my acquaintances and friends!

Innovative Italian cuisine

By Mary H |

No big Italian cooking smells when you walk in! Wow...what a surprise. Felt we may be in the wrong place. Server was nice but more interested in telling us about protein in dishes then anything else. I can read! I live in Tuscany every summer in an apt on a vineyard. I know what protein is. We all had pasta dishes that were very very good, but more innovative then they serve in Italy. Appetizers tiny ....one bruchetta! One fried ravioli! Dinner ravioli were great and triangle pasta terrific. Bucatini delicious. All and all not the Italian food we love in Italy, however most Americans would like it. Go and try it. Enjoy a different taste of Italy!

Not quite up to my expectations...

By Coco M |

If I could rate this dining experience a 3 1/2 I would. We had reservations for a Friday evening. The wait staff was stretched. Our waiter, Nick, was quite arrogant and ignored our table while flirting and chatting with a group of young attractive single women. The food was very good, but overpriced. The pork meatballs were spicy and delicious My friend's trout was dry and not very tasty. The pasta dish was average. Our favorite was our appetizer, the meat & cheese tray. This is a nice restaurant with good food and not such good service and a pricey dining experience. I doubt I will return when I visit Austin.

Dissapointing entree

By Lori716 |

We arrived about 30 minutes early for our early (one week) Valentine Dinner. We checked in with the hostess and headed to the bar for a drink. The hostess and bartender were very welcoming. While sitting at the bar, the general manager came over and talked to us for a minute. He was very friendly and nice to talk to. My husband loved his cocktails. The wine selection was good and I enjoyed my wine. We were seated upstairs for dinner. The atmosphere is very nice - 5 stars. We ordered the mozzarella and meatballs. The meatballs were awesome. The mozzarella was just ok. Our entrees were the Rigatoni and the Lamb. The Lamb was not tender. I have had much better at other establishments. My Rigatoni was full of flavor and a good pasta, but again I have had better. I would return, but only for appetizers and drinks.

Almost isn't good enough

By James Frinzi |

Austin is a very competitive place for restaurants. Olive & June is great in theory, but has a way to go. The atmosphere is nice, and it is in a central location. That is a good start. The wine list is the most diverse for Italian wine I have seen in Austin. That is fantastic! In our party, we had 3 cocktails made that were either not what was ordered or cross contaminated with another drink. The waiter was good about replacing them, but that is a lot of messed up drink orders. The small plates were AMAZING! I would absolutely return for Italian wine and small plates. The part where it went down hill was the entree. It was not edible. The waiter tried a bite from my plate and agreed. My friend ordered the same dish and she ate it but said it wasn't that great. Either way, everyone else in the party had entrees and it had nothing. They offered to make something new, but at that point I didn't want to start my dinner while everyone else was finished eating. The service was generally pretty good, and they were good about allergies. If this place was in Des Moines Iowa it'd probably be at the top. With so many great restaurants in Austin, I wouldn't bother with this place.

New Years Eve Dinner

By BJ T |

For the 4th year my family celebrated New Year’s Eve with dinner at Olive & June. As usual the food was exceptional, especially the pork rib, homemade mozzarella, and bucatini. Particularly interesting and unusual was the popcorn polenta. The service was impeccable, thanks to Alex. We will definitely be back again.

Great Atmosphere Disappointing Food and Service

By lauraduggan2015 |

We had dinner tonight with another couple. The restaurant is so lovely, lots of atmosphere with twinkle lights in the trees, patio and balcony. We were seated in the dining room on the second floor. Service was super slow. We had to get up and find our drinks that sat on the bar waiting to be delivered. The menu is really creative and the dishes sounded so tasty. My husband and I ordered the drum. Our friends ordered the rabbit and ravioli respectively. We also ordered 4 sides but only got the cauliflower one and the crispy eggplant. Both of those were great. The drum was a big disappointment. It was so small, the bottom part of the tail piece. Certainly not worth the price and not enough fish to even count as the entree that was listed on the menu. My husband's piece was slightly larger but it wasn't anywhere close to our expectation. The restaurant at Whole Foods serves a nice piece of grilled drum three times the size and half the price. The waiter was apologetic blaming the poor service on a downpour outside that forced people inside but we felt like it was just an excuse. The atmosphere is so lovely but the food and service fell short. They can do better and should. We'll try them again and hope they get it right next time.

Happy hour

By Rhorhomac |

Such a lovely place to have happy hour. Their porch is great and the drinks are so delicious. It can be a casual date or fun with friends.

Disappointing experience

By Meredith C |

I recently celebrated my birthday and had always wanted to eat here. Unfortunately I had two bad plates before my main course that quickly turned my feelings to utter disappointment. The crostini I ordered was burnt. Once I bit into it, I could taste it and then looked on the bottom. The edge of it was charred black. You couldn't see from the top because the topping was so plentiful. The other dish was a raviolo and it had a bone in my pulled pork filling. I still persevered and ate the main course & had dessert. I can't bring myself to ever wanting to try it again. I hope your experience is different.

Treehouse patio!

By Jessica H |

Awesome patio experience! It feels like you're in a treehouse. We went for Monday all day 1/2 off piccoli piatti and 1/2 off wine by the glass. It was a very affordable way to experience the restaurant. The plates are VERY small. But with 1/2 off they're worth it. The blue crab roll, quail and pacquiao peppers were all delicious. The only downside to the quail was it was slightly over fatty. They also have a happy hour every night until 6:30 that includes more plates for a discount.

Olive and June a must when in Austin!

By texag80 |

My wife and I were in Austin this past weekend and dine at O&J for our daughters birthday. Reservations for four were made at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th and we were promptly seated upon arrival. Our hosts Jessica and Jessie were outstanding the entire night! Glasses of water were refilled continuously and our every need was addressed. We ordered entrees of linguine, fusilli and the brook trout. Side orders included sunchokes and brussel sprouts. Everything was amazing! The drinks from the bar were also outstanding. Jessica also provided a dessert free of charge for our daughter's birthday. This establishment is just off 35th street near downtown Austin is amazing and you will not regret it! A wonderful place for the special occasion dinner! Highly recommend! Bob Houston

Magnificent Oak Tree Outside!

By NCGator1981 |

Honestly.....writing this review a month after visiting.....other than the great company of PMD and the people watching.....this place did not leave a lasting impression. I cannot recall what we ate other than salad, bread and assorted deserts. (and alcohol was not involved!!) :D

Business meeting

By Alicia K |

What a really nice place. Food and services was really wonderful. Wasnt on the planning team. Delighted that we was treated such great food and nice view of restaurant. Great health menu. Fish was delightful. Salad fresh. Dessert what can I say... yum. Fresh and tasted so good. Nothing bad with the meal and visit. Thank you Austin.

Fun menu but service was poor

By lilyipper |

We easily found reservations on Open Table for a warm Friday night. The patio is beautiful but I forgot to mention outdoor seating upon booking so we sat upstairs in a large, comfortable booth. The menu isn't big but isn't too small either. There is a good selection for just about anyone. We sampled many of the items and shared it family style. While the food was good, I found that for $65 recommended average spend per person, the service was lacking, fairly significantly. I think our server may have been overwhelmed. Grappa flight is super fun. Highly recommend that.

Great Food, Cool Location

We gave Olive and June a try after a recommendation as well as a visit to their sister restaurant Parkside. The location is great and the building unique. The patios give the opportunity for outdoor drinks or dining, although it was too chilly for us to enjoy on this visit. We had a few drinks at the bar which was quite cozy and the bar tenders attentive. We dined upstairs not far from the bar area and the room was comfortable and decorated nice. Our server was attentive and all of the food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Zucchini Involtini as well as the Gemelli and Braised Lamb. Our only complaint would be the noise. The room is extremely loud, loud enough to make conversation difficult - not impossible, but difficult.

Italian food done right

By 1234texas |

When compared to other major cities, Austin is not long on great Italian restaurants. To us, that is a shame because we love Italian food and wine. The good news is that Olive & June fills the bill nicely. It is not the best one we have ever visited, but it is very good--hence the 4 rating. We will ABSOLUTELY be returning and it sounds like the happy hour is a good one to visit when we get gridlocked by Austin rush hour traffic. In many other reviews I have railed against the terrible infrastructure failures of Austin City Planners! The good news is that this is another "safe haven" for us to find a place to get off the highway and relax. Since this was our first visit, we were with our culinary group in a private room on the third floor--which is excellent for private functions--I may have a different "take" on how the restaurant operates for normal dining customers. The following is my review on the meal we experienced. The staff of this restaurant provides excellent, authentic and creative Italian food with wine pairing options that were superb. We were impressed with the chefs descriptions of the food and the preparation process--he knows his stuff! The wine steward also did a great job in knowing what wines would work with what foods and provided a good description of the matching process and the wine profile. This is always a great advantage for the diners. We will see if the service is available when we return on our own. The food is very attractively presented and shows real attention to detail. The servers knew what they were doing and did a great job. There was a nice crowd on the lower levels of the restaurant and the bar had a good crowd after 8 in the evening on a Saturday night. The place has "hopping" and the crowd appeared to be having a good time. The decor is a little dated and needs some "refreshments" to make it a little more inviting, but it is far from being a significant detractor. The Oak Tree is spectacular! It is even better on the third floor when you are in the treetop. There is a valet service for parking, but it appears that they have a parking lot. The food makes this restaurant another great dinner choice in Austin. We may not have a lot of Italian food choices, but there are so many other good options in the city that you will not be disappointed when you visit here! If you really want Italian--eat here!

Exceptional Service!

By Bree4201 |

Went to Olive & June for the first time last Saturday night. It's a small restaurant - reservations are recommended. Our server was exceptional and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Everyone's dinner was very good and fresh however the size of each dish was pretty small. We had a good time and enjoyed our meals and the service, but probably will not visit too often.

A new favorite; superb food with great Austin vibe

By EnjoymentOfLife |

Chef Sean Cirkiel has another hit. We ate here on a beautiful Saturday night and sat outside. With the large oak tree, the patio is the place to be. Our waiter, Frank, was first-rate -- knowledgable, friendly and professional. But it is the food that deserves the most praise. Favorites at our table were the braised lamb shank and the rigatoni for entrees. Appetizer standouts were the fried ravioli and the crostini. The white beans side dish also deserves special mention. A tier down, but still in the Very Good category, were the duck breast and the chocolate panna cotta. They were tasty and would top lists at many a restaurant, but the standouts were SO good -- national award kind of good. This is clearly a place to go back to and share with out of town guests who want to know what the Austin food scene is all about.

A Delight in Austin

By Sarah T |

Dinner under an immense live oak, with a glittering of string of small white lights strung through the branches. Just walking into the enclosed garden patio around the restaurant put me in a good mood. We had a spacious table under the tree, attentive service, and interesting menu choices. It was clear that all the staff are extremely proud of their food and service. Two of our group of six have complex allergy or dietary issues and the staff could not have been more patient and accommodating. My Zafferano cocktail was excellent (gin, galliano, lemon and basil, mmmm), the starters for the table delicious, including a personal favorite of mine aracini, and we ordered a lot of their specials. My best memory of the night is sitting underneath that ancient tree, sipping my cocktail. A delight in Austin.

Delightful restaurant

By 551melm |

The food was Italian, with a difference. Their pastas had generous toppings, which were delicious and novel. The waitresses have always been lovely and we never feel rushed, yet we don't wait too long for our food either. We've been there several times and plan to go back next time we visit Austin.

So average, but a gorgeous terrace

By falconfling1 |

Another of the meet em and have a drink restaurants. Great terrace. It's perfect for a significant other, business dinner, or a drink and a nosh. The food is o.k., but you'll never be reminded of that special dinner in Montepulciano or Cortona. Pricey for what you get.

poor service and so-so food

By Honora J |

I wanted to like this place due to so much fanfare over it when it opened. I have been 3 times now and each time has been a let down. Service is spotty and the food has been fair but nothing special. The outdoor patio is wonderful but not enough to get me to dine there yet again. Maybe for drinks al fresco it's a good idea.

Great neighborhood restaurant with impeccable service

By st09734 |

I have been going to Oilve and June since they opened and have the pleasure to dine there on many occasions. Food are always fresh, lovely plating, packs with tons of favor and creativity. Service is always impeccable and professional. I cannot say I have ever had a bad experience. Thank you Oilve and June! Looking forward to my next visit.

PERFECT

By Amy C |

Had a romantic, date night dinner here. The service was absolutely the BEST we have ever experienced. The food was phenomenal, and the ambience (both indoors and out) was lovely. Free valet parking was the icing on the cake. Best dining out experience ever. Seriously.

Great Food, Service, and Atmosphere

By FrqtTrvlr14 |

This Italian Restaurant embracing the farm to table movement was one of our favorites in Austin; for a nice fine dining experience give it a try! My Pasta alla Norma was excellent, but I'd have to say the taste of my wife's Bucatini all'Amatriciana was off the chart and as good as any I've had in Trastevere, Italy, where they are known for this dish. Our wine, a Montepulciano, was excellent. The restaurant atmosphere was good with plenty of room between tables, allowing for normal conversation at the table without having to raise our voices for some to hear. Service was great; I look forward to coming back on another visit here.

Awesome Happy Hour in a Quaint Place

By Frankie C |

This restaurant has an awesome happy hour during the week. I went on a Friday and they had 1/2 off all cocktails and beer (but not wine) and then 1/2 off the appetizers. This restaurant is pricey but if you go during happy hour it is pretty reasonable. The dishes are TINY, even the entrees, so if you are very hungry I would choose a different restaurant. All of their pastas are fresh and the vegetables they use are so good. They also have amazing sun dried tomato butter with the bread that is to die for.

Good to get back!

By Jay F |

Olive and June became one of our "go to" restaurants before Covid but we had not been there for 4 or 5 months. It was great to return. Very good food: Frito Misto was very good as always, the Watermelon and Peach Salad was outstanding, pastas were very good. Wines are expensive at 4X retail which is the biggest negative, so we drink beer. Service was very good. Table soacing was good.

Beautiful patio and great food

By Lilligar |

We have gone to this restaurants several times. Every time we leave saying how come we don't come more often? The service is implacable and the food so delicious! The patio surrounded by big mature wonderful trees is a beautiful place to have happy hour. Highly recommend this place!

Average food with good atmosphere

By Liz S |

Many of my friends have recommended this place and its lovely patio is likely the reason why. But I found the food so-so and pricey. The fresh mozarella salad was a cold block of cheese with slices of watermelon and tomato interspersed; the seafood misto was too heavy on clams (and thus short on calamari and shrimp, which were very good) with a tin taste to them. The lemon ailoi needed more lemon to make it pop. My linguine and my husband's bucatini were heavy feeling pasta dishes with a lot of oil binding the sauces. Overall the food could be lightened and brighted up, especially in the Austin summer heat. Though we were sitting inside in the cool air-conditioning, I felt like I was eating in winter. The portions were not huge, so it's not going to drag you down, but it's NOTHING to write home about. Desserts were interesting: a bit complex and all were deconstructed. I did not dislike that but they could all use one or two fewer components. All in all, the chef is trying too hard. I think the entire menu could be simplified with great results

Wont go back

By TinaNapolitano |

Went for dinner with another couple. Very nice feel and setting upon arrival. Ordered the Bloody Mary with Balsamic and didn't like that at all. Taken to a table in the upstairs part of restaurant and asked to be moved as group on corner table were so loud and this made us realize the decor did not lend itself to absorbing any of the noise whatsoever. We were moved to a booth table but still high noise levels. Furniture not comfortable. However we were excited to try the small bites and the pasta which we were told was home made came highly recommended. When i asked our table after the meal what they were blown away by and would definitely re order, the answer was none of it. The small bites were uneventful and my risotto was so cheesy that it was unpleasant to eat and I left it. The pasta did not taste home made at as when i tried 2 of the other dishes the pasta was very hard around the edges and not a soft consistency at all.

Great food

By Nathan E |

Visited with another couple, and were seated inside (downstairs). It's a bit noisy when all the tables are full, but not so much that you can't hear each other speak. A nice list of options, although I'd advise against the small plates, as they are quite expensive for the amount of food your receive. Had pasta, and the noodles were made in house. The service was good, and our waiter offered suggestions when asked. We were there earlier, and it definitely filled up quickly, so would recommend a reservation.

Best restaurant in Austin!

By mcpeg46 |

I live in California and I am a bit of a "foodie". My son and daughter-in-law live in Austin so we visit quite often. We went on a Sunday evening and it is a pre-fixe menu. It was truly fabulous! The service was perfect and the food was so delicious. Maybe we just hit it on a great night, but the 4 of us were very impressed! I would definitely recommend this place. We are going back tonight, so if I am disappointed I will do another review tomorrow. We had no little ones with us, but on Sundays, kids 12 and under eat free!

Happy hour is amazing

By Rhorhomac |

I went for happy hour and the drinks are so fantastic, the atmosphere is beautiful, sit on the patio, drink wine, bring a date And it's well priced.

There are many better options in Austin

By Bunty_18 |

I'm not by any means saying I didn't enjoy Olive & June, the point is that if you are in Austin your dinner dollar can get you a great deal more. Austin is the restaurant capital of the US - like it or not, NYC, you need to pull your socks up - and this place doesn't *really* compete. The food is excellent, the cocktails were great, it delivers exactly what it promises - the service was also fantastic although a little confused about whether our table was ready, whether it was better for us to wait for our table at the bar, etc etc. Where it lets itself down is in the awkward design of the refurb of this house into a restaurant, which is not pretty and not comfortable and does not fit the overall brand of what they are doing with the food and the attention to detail in the service. Of all the places where we ate in Austin, this is the one I would not rush back to.

Valentines dinner, very mediocre!

By Sujedi |

Valentines dinner, very mediocre! The dinner started out fine at the bar. We had drinks, all good. Attentive staff. But then at dinner we had truffle cauliflower risotto, huge chunks of cauliflower in the risotto? Poorly executed and really nothing interesting. Next we had Brussel sprouts, super salty. Then the lamb dish, very tender but had a majorly gamey taste. The staff is great but honestly skip this place. Food is way over rated.

Prices too high, food not great

By Lynn G |

We went to this restaurant to celebrate our adult daughter's birthday. It was her choice. We shared several small plates as starters, then each had our own main course. None of the small plates had much in the way of flavor, in my view, and they ought to be labeled "tiny" not small. My main course, the striped bass, and my husband's, the lamb, were both quite good, but very pricey given the small portions. The bread was very good, but paired with goat cheese, again with little flavor. To cap it off, our 7 year old grandson had two bowls of spaghetti and butter, at $8.50 each. That seemed way over the top for a child's meal. We wouldn't go back.

My new favorite place

By rudypaula |

great food, great service, half price appetizers and drinks before 7pm/ The desserts were out of this world. All of the dishes were so well thought through. The lamb shank fell off the bone. We loved it and would definitely go back

No Visit to Austin Is Complete Until You Dine at Olive & June!

By Kim P |

Best Restaurant in Austin by Far! We spent a week searching for the ultimate dinner and found Olive & June. Amazing unique menu from the cocktails thru dessert. Peach bruschetta was a pallete treat followed by the flavorful beef paparadell and the red snapper. Dessert was the strawberry bombollini which was the perfect ending. Worth travelling to Austin just to dine at the Olive & June!

My 2nd time here and my expectations were exceeded

By Rick |

Don't miss this hidden gem. Its in an old modern house in north austin and has an incredible patio with a monster old tree that shades it well. Or dine inside the modern dining room but take some ear plugs. While the 4 of us enjoyed creative cruisine and the fun servers, the noise level is a bit loud to communicate without shouting. The owner of this restaurant also owns Parkside downtown on 6th street, but this is less touresty and more locals dine here. Its an upscale restaurant with a very creative genius behind the open kitchen counter. My 2nd visit and I was not disppointed!

Excellent meal, noisy venue, friendly service

By CharlieinTexas |

Ate here last night for a private party, about 40 people. Excellent selection of cheeses, outstanding mushroom risotto, a must try! Veal Parmesan was delicious too and fresh tasting sorbet for dessert Great way to end the meal. Attentive and accommodating service. Place has an excellent feel, and we were in a private room on the third floor with a terrace. But, as is true of the restaurant generally, extremely noisy, so much so that it makes it a bit difficult to engage in normal conversation at times.

We went to celebrate our new status as Grandmothers, one Texan, the other English.

By Vicki W |

We chose Olive & June as our kids had taken us their for cocktails and it was easy to walk too. We shared the cheese and meat platter, it was soon good. Our waitress was really helpful with suggestions. I had the Texan lamb, it was soooo good, very tender and tasty. Texan Gran had the risotto with steak extra and thoroughly enjoyed it. We needed the walk home as we were stuffed! 😀 We can recommend this place to any age group and will return.

Very Good

Staff were great, very polite and helpful. They went above and beyond. Food was good, varying options but all very tasty. Trust your taste buds! Cool restaurant with various seating options

Great happy hour

By Jen78703 |

I took a group of 8 people here for a birthday dinner. We had theater tickets so we made a 5;30 reservation for the patio. It was a beautiful day- not too hot so sitting in their patio was lovely. Much to our surprise it was happy hour and EVERYTHING on the menu and drinks were 50% off. This was wonderful news. We tried different craft drinks and mixed it up a bit on the food plates. None of the food portions were big and there are not a lot of choices. The food was all fairly tasty and all very artistic looking. But it was hit & miss flavor wise. My grilled octopus was tiny- about 1 inc long and all of 2 on the plate. It was sitting on pasta that looked like shiny black beetles- seriously. The ensalada was literally 4 pieces of romaine with some dots of "creme" and a few crunchy pork bits. They gave us a free dessert for the birthday person. She chose tiramisu- which the server tried to explain was their own version that was "deconstructed then reconstructed" What she got was a hard shell of meringue filled with some sort of goo. She said it was very mildly coffee flavored. It's a beautiful place with creative food so I am so glad we went with a large group and ordered many dishes to try during happy hour.

trendy Italian with patio

By ScottEP |

We had a delicious dinner with friends. Monday special: happy hour prices on drinks and apps. Neighborhood chic setting with valet parking. All the appetizers and salads we tried were so good, we ended up splitting entrees. Attentive waitstaff.

Quaint lil' place with great food and wine selection

By Estrella P |

First for me and two other friends. We were brought here by another friend who has been here in the past. This friend is a fellow foodie and when she recommends a place, 90% out of 100, she is spot on. Service was a bit slow than we prefer, especially this place is not huge, service should have been more prompt, Emily! But the ambience and the food were all fantastic. We were very happy customers.

Very good food. Spectacular bargain at half price!

By Jay F |

Another couple joined us for a Monday Happy Hour trip to Olive & June. Food is half price at Happy Hour and on Mezzo Mondays wines by the glass are half price. We shared three appetizers - Misto Fritto, Arancini, and Meatballs. All were very good. For mains we had Quail Saltimbaca (outstanding), duck (very good), Agnolatti (very good) and Lasagna (good to very good). We also ordered Carrots and Brussel Sprouts as sides. Throw in 7 glasses of wine and we had a fine dinner. We arrived shortly after five and the staff was still getting organized so the service was a but slow at first but the did a good job.

Exceptional Italian Cuisine

By Alison B |

It was great to visit Olive & June on a Saturday nite. It was a busy place, multilevels surrounding a huge central tree--great ambiance. The food was exceptional, the service very good, noise level quite high where we were in the restaurant, but overall a very nice experience.

Deserving of 5 stars but not with the current hostess

By 37Frequenttraveler |

First the food. Although not an expansive menu, the food was excellent. Interesting twists on the cheese and meat platters, excellent fennel and tomato salad and some of the best crostini I have eaten in a while. The Pinot Grigio was an excellent balance as well. Our server was attentive, the environment pleasant (the decks more casual with the dining room being a little more formal). Now for the lovely hostess. She should not be a hostess. Everything was a problem for her - simple request for an umbrella to keep the sun of our table, an indoor table (we were there early so the restaurant was pretty empty) etc. I noticed others walk in after us with no reservations who were seated indoors. Guess we had too much brown skin in our party!! Guys remedy this. I would love to go back for the food but not with that woman at the front.

Olive & June has earned our respect

By Todd787 |

Formerly the El Arbor which we absolutely loved. We were crushed when it closed for apparently no reason and of course we were very apprehensive about the next restauranteur to take over the location. However, I’m happy to report that Olive & June have won us over. We recently dined at Olive & June for a family birthday and could not have had a more perfect evening. Cocktails were excellent as were the antipasti. We enjoyed the Pork Meatballs and the Cheese and Meat Platter. Entrees that we particularly liked were the Bucatini Amatriciana and the Lamb Triangoli, though everyone seemed to love whatever they ordered. Our server made the wine selections for us and could not have been better. For dessert we simply had one of everything. Couldn’t possibly say if one was better than the other as they were all amazing. Overall we must have had a good time as our reservations were for seven and I honestly think we closed the place down that night. We still miss the old El Arbor (Argentine cuisine), but the giant live oak still graces the patio and we are more than getting used to the new menu.

Great pasta on a nice patio

By Andrew M |

We shared bruschetta and spicy meat balls to start. Both were very goos. You know a restaurant is good when something as simple as bruschetta is really special. Then the pasta, capellini and ricotta ravioli. Again both very good, you can really appreciate the home made pasta. The capellini was not very hot (a little disappointing, but we enjoyed it anyway). For desert we shared the chocolate roll. This was not great, but overall it did not take away from what was a great night.

very cool space and lovely food

By Julee M |

The restaurant space reminds me of the Brady Bunch house. The banquettes are white leather and it has a cool open stair that goes to the second floor. The patio is great with a huge oak covering it. The food is lovely, very flavorful and the wine list is great especially if you are a fan of Italian wines. We had a 2000 Vino Nobile which went beautifully with my pasta dish and our pork belly spiedini. Our waiter was darling and very knowledgeable. He brought us some lovely little dolci and a little apperitif for free at the end of the evening. We are going back for her college graduation dinner in a month and I'm looking forward to it.

Phenomenal!!!!

By BaseballFan5 |

We loved our dining experience at Olive & June. The food was out of this world and the service was wonderful as well. It was cold the night we were there, but would love to return and sit outside - upper level in the "treehouse". What a cool vibe!!! I cannot wait to return. 2 thumbs up!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Buona!

By Mis_Adventurous |

This restaurant has such a great ambiance. The outdoor seating both downstairs and upstairs is so inviting and the indoor dining is equally enjoyable. The pasta dishes are all very solid and the salads are creative (but not typical Italian fare). The wine selection is fantastic and desserts were very tasty. The ingredients all tasted very fresh and our server was FANTASTIC . . . for that matter, even the hostess was FANTASTIC!! This is a great, funky place to visit . . . not traditional Italian, but good just the same.

Beautiful outdoor dining.

By gabahatcher |

My husband and I with friends went here for a late dinner after football. We made it within minutes of last seating. This did not matter, the service was great. We had the full attention of the sommelier, which really made our friends ecstatic! I had looked at the menu and for being seated at 10:20..I was not keen on any of this. My husband and I mostly ate shareable items. The crostini was tasty but oh my it was spicy and burned my mouth. They are working on reworking the menu to express this. The pork meatballs were delicious. We also ordered the fried couscous with a tasty cheese.. Again..go!

Great Date Night

By Dane E |

We came to Olive & June because we were given a gift card. The menu items we unfamiliar to us, so we picked items we were somewhat familiar with and we took the recommendations of the server, “Samatha”. Wow! The food was great!! Starting with the the cheese platter, leading to the Risotto (with peaches!!) Oh My! The main entrees were also amazing. Samatha did a great job taking care of us! Before we left, we were already discussing our next visit, and bringing friends. Definitely a winner!!

Texas ....Really?

By Skibby1 |

So here is the deal. We had a limited menu because we were there with a larger group. One of the choices was a N.Y. Strip. So most of us ordered that. To be fair it was good, however the issue was the portion. 4 small strips of steak approx. 2-3 inches long. When I order a steak I expect a steak. While it tasted fine it was not enough food for anyone at our table, in fact the dessert was more than the steak. Texas? I don't think so, more like New York.

Great experience

By Celizcook |

We went for a special occasion and it was well worth it, all of the 'small bites' were absolutely delicious. Great cocktails and wines, the steak was incredible and although it is an Italian place the pasta was probably my least favorite. Everything else however was incredible.

Ambitious Menu

By kgkraemer |

Well prepared and plated gourmet dishes with an Italian flare. If you're looking for traditional Italian ( linguini with clam sauce, fettuccini, etc), this isn't your place. Ambiance was wonderful in this indoor/outdoor multi level restaurant and the wait staff couldn't be more cordial. Limited wine list by the glass but extensive by the bottle. Serving shrimp with the head on was not my ideal but the ricotta and squash ravioli was excellent. We dined outdoors and the patio had "vigorous" misters. Would suggest an indoor table. Free valet parking at the entrance.

Nice Outdoor Garden Patio

By LiathATX |

Nice if you are in the garden. I was instead seated next to a potted plant with a view of an elevator door. It felt a bit like I was eating in the hallway of an office building. I was also in the way, and people had trouble getting around my table. Very uncomfortable. I was happy when my meal was done so I could leave. The food was excellent though. I had the linguine with clams. Fantastic! Bar was understaffed. First drink arrived after our appetizer. Ordered a second drink when my food arrived. Didn't get the drink til after we were finished eating. Apparently it is nearly impossible to get a seat in the garden, so If I go again, I will ask to either get a seat at a booth or by a window. Reservations are highly suggested.

Great Food, Great Time

This is the best Italian resturant in Austin. Period! Everyone at the table really enjoyed their meal. The great reviews are true and you will not be dissappointed. Timely service, great food, relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic meal.

The food was great. Service was top notch and the quality of the food awesome. Highly Recommends this place for everyone

Good Neighborhood Restaurant

By David C |

Had dinner here last night! For my taste the menu was rather limited, but our meal was very good. My brother had the lamb which he said was excellent. I had the New York strip which was equally as good. They have a full bar service and I found their drinks well prepare and well worth what they charged. They have a nice area if you want to eat outside plus valet parking. All in all it is a neighborhood gem!! The only reason I gave it a good rate rather than excellent was our waitress. She seemed that she really didn’t want to be there. Could just be me!!

Confusing service but promising food

By d1621 |

This is the hardest review to write in a long time. We made our first visit to OJ. a few friends had said it was OK except for slow or spotty service. OJ was so appealing a setting with a giant oak tree and patio areas cascading in this multi-level place, a somewhat open kitchen for the few inside diners. But then there were some convoluted things that just left us scratching our heads while patting our tummies - go figure. The valet was the best service aspect of this entire place. But kitchen team delivers delicious food in contrast. So we left scratching our heads. We had just left the upper deck where we had a glass of wine while smelling the very large dog allowed up there by management and moved down and seated on the main patio for dinner. We ordered and were just enjoying our wine and awaiting our blue crab when one of the hostess or serving staff starts scrubbing the concrete and steel stairs to the upper patio just above and behind us - how utterly dumb and rude during dining hours. As dinner progressed the service was spotty as we had been warned by friends - but the food was pretty good. But what dining out is for us is the entire experience from arrival until departure. And OJ sends so many conflicting messages that one wonders why. We think the chef and kitchen were done a complete disservice the evening of our visit. Big smelly dogs deserve a big open park in which to romp and not be dragged along by folks to restaurants, period. And staff members and managers need to be trained to prioritize cleaning duties that must be done before guests arrive not during food service hours. For us it was a crying shame - a beautiful environment spoiled by poor choices by management and staff - all the while a really good kitchen team cranked out tasty food. Hopefully the whole team can get the arms around this stuff and make OJ a very enjoyable experience for the next guests - because the food deserves it.

Very good food and enjoyable atmosphere. Enjoyed some unique and original entrees. Great outdoor seating under a majestic oak tree!

Great happy hour

By Rhorhomac |

This is a fantastic place to come for a small gathering or happy hour. Come in the spring and sit on the deck under the shade of the giant oak. The drinks are delicious and the food is great as well.
