Solid pizza in University Park

By Mariah H |

This thin crust style pizza is finished in a wood fired oven but unfortunately is created with a pre-fired crust leaving a bit more burn than char on the crust. Their signature pizzas with truffle oil are a real treat but the pancetta pie ended up being mostly sundried tomatoes which was all we could taste. Tip: go on a sunny day and enjoy some outdoor seating.

Best Pizza in Dallas

By MRLappin |

Picked Best Pizza in Dallas by USA Magazine. Lived up to expectations for the 2nd time. Great Food, Great Service, and a Fair Price

Wonderful!

By ShaSha66 |

It was one of the few warm days this spring, and the 3 of us chose to sit on the patio. Great food and good service. Sangria was wonderful, but $25 for a pitcher is a bit high since it's mostly juice and fruit that aren't very expensive. However, we had a great time, and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. My daughter, who lives in Dallas and who is married to a person of Italian descent, says that this will become one of their favorite "go to" places.

Gourmet pizza at it's best

By Julia H |

I have been here many times. Date night with my husband. Dinner with my grandkids! The inside dining is loud & crowded. We usually try to get a seat on the patio. If you like super thin crust this is the place for you. Try their chili oil sprinkled on top. Lots of different toppings & the pepperoni rolls on the appetizer menu are great! Service is hit & miss but pizza is worth it

Good pizza - but not a lot more

By czmdivenut |

Very nice pizza - wood oven - but not a lot of other choices on the menu. Flatbread appetizer was tasty. Wine a tad ovepriced.

Good Italian in small footprint

By 0beachbum0 |

Good Italian. Very small location - just small space with a small porch for outside eating and very little parking spots (free) but otherwise street parking. Had the meatballs- decent but zero spice. Good wine options. Seems like a good neighborhood joint as some came for take out. I had a super friendly/helpful/attentive waitress. This is not a high end place but a good neighborhood stop in. Bathroom needs a little sprucing up.

Good pizza, not good spaghetti

By cjg2901 |

We really like the pizza and the new location on Mockingbird and Abrams. However, the spaghetti was terrible. Stick with the favorite....pizza

Best pizza in Dallas

By wwfrench |

Love the thin crust on these pizzas! We always get the metro margarita pizza and sometimes add pepperoni!! This place does a huge take take out business !! I had the burata salad with my pizza , it’s really big so better to share !! Friendly staff! This place is always busy but worth the wait!

I don't get it!

By ILoveTexas |

I found this place in an article about where to eat after visiting the George Bush library. Olivella's was first on the list, with several prominent endorsements. We ordered two pizzas which were just okay. Service was friendly but they kept trying to clean our table while we were still eating, though the restaurant was nearly empty so they didn't need it...even trying to remove our pizza with several slices left. I can't think of any reason to go there.

Lakewood location needs work

By chamagnegangster |

Service was less than professional or knowledgeable. I assume they cook crust separately from toppings. There was more sauce & black pieces than crust. And I understand Neopolitan pizza has black marks. No good wine 2 choose from & I don't mind paying 4 decent wine even w/ pizza. I mite try it one more time 2 go as they have just opened. We had 2 pies 1 salad 1 bottle of $30 wine (that probably should have cost $20) & it was $95.00 I don't mind paying that @ places that use quality ingredients & have a nice wine selection!

Great pizza. As close as...

By Alessio B |

Great pizza. As close as you can get to the real thing. The tomato sauce is flavorful and slightly sweet, and tastes as if it was made fresh. They do tend to use cheaper ingredients, I think, including an unimpressive Mozzarella di Bufala. Run by a young Neapolitan. Place is cozy, but very small, and tends to get very crowded both at lunch and dinner. Service is pretty poor, unfortunately, and dishes other than pizzas just average. But this is a small prize to pay for the best pizza in town.

Big disappointment

By Sally5450 |

They advertise authentic neapolitan pizza, but the thin crust tasted like Pizza Hut cardboard. There was no nuance to it and very little evidence it was baked in a wood-fired oven. But the patio is nice and the prices are modest, so we decided to give them another try since they're in our neighborhood - this time selecting two pasta dishes. Again, we were served really bland chicken/pesto/linguini and a baked marinara & penne pasta dish that was so salty, neither of us could eat it. The wine was ok and reasonably priced, but probably won't return for a third visit despite the convenience of its location.

My Favorite Pizza in Dallas

By Randy B |

“Best pizza” is subjective, as is clear from the mixed reviews here. I’ve rarely met a pizza I didn’t like, from Uno’s deep-dish pie to the pizza in Italy that require a fork and knife. (Ironically, the only town where I’m consistently disappointed is famous-for-its-pizza Chicago.) Without hesitation, my favorite pizza in Dallas is the black truffle oil version at Olivella’s. Super-thin crust, charred in the wood-burning oven, mostly mozzarella and mushrooms. With a cold beer or a glass of red wine, it’s a simple meal fit for the gods. What’s the downside? Surely it doesn’t need to be that expensive. I feel guilty every time I shell out $25 for a pizza which isn’t even all that large. (They don’t even refer to it as large; it’s a “metro.” Sounds like Starbucks marketing.) Service can be excellent or slow, depending on the crowd. Of the two locations, I prefer McFarlin Boulevard for its intimacy. On the other hand, you’re less likely to have to wait in line at the newer, larger Hillside Village store, and parking is easier. Choose McFarlin for couples, Hillside for families.

Love this place

By Graciekat |

This really is the best pizza we’ve ever had in Dallas. They have 2 kinds of crust. We love the metro which is REALLY thin & crispy. The sauce & toppings are super fresh. The salads are excellent. All the employees & waitstaff are terrific! Plus they have a great patio if you want to sit outside. We eat here often & always have a wonderful experience.

Neighborhood Gem!

By LiseRenee |

This quaint, small restaurant is across the street from SMU campus and if your lucky to get a table then you will have a great time. I've been lucky the 2x I've gone, and I have the say the pizza is worth the trip! Well made Italian dough for thin style, crispy pizza with lots of different flavors to choose. Staff is prompt and friendly. There are Happy Hour specials M-F before 5:30 - so go early!

Great pizza!

By smurer2016 |

Last night was our fourth meal at Olivella's. As always, the pizza was great...comparable with the pizza we had in Italy two weeks ago. Solid service. Nice prossecco and cold beer. We will be back.

Twice burned!

By Sally5450 |

Despite my previous assessment of this restaurant, we found ourselves needing Italian takeout that was in the neighborhood and called in an order for Spaghetti w/meatballs, Lasagne, and a Caprese Salad. The best thing that can be said about our order was that it was ready on time. Otherwise, it was lukewarm and the most bland, tasteless Italian pasta I can remember having outside of an elementary school cafeteria. Worst pasta ever!

Nostalgic for real Italian pizza? Try Olivella's!

By dallasmom57 |

We are already fans and regulars of the tiny, original Olivella's location across from Southern Methodist University, but we decided to try the new location on Mockingbird Lane. We were skeptical, because we felt like a new, larger restaurant location (and a different pizza oven) probably would negatively impact the quality of the pizza. Happy to report, the pizza was excellent! We judge all pizza (perhaps unfairly) by the margherita pizza we ate on the street (literally) in Naples, Italy, and Olivella's margherita pizza is pretty darn close! Crisp, yet chewy, with crushed tomatoes in a sauce that tastes like sunshine. New location has a stylish, yet cozy feel, with a nice patio for al fresco dining. We tried a hot sandwich and the Caesar salad, too and they were fine but unremarkable. It's all about the pizza - but that's just fine by us!

Family lunch

By Michelle M |

Great spot to relax for lunch. Super friendly staff, great thin crust pizza and quick service. We tried four types of pizza on two metro sized pies. All four were great and as you would hope for based on the ingredients. The 2 pies fed our family of five with a hungry teenager included. The ingredients are generous and the crust is mildly smokey from their wood fire oven. Our whole family loved it.

Great thin crust pizza

By russkwtx |

This review is for the Olivella's on Mockingbird. We've been here several times but not for almost 18 months. This time the weather was nice so we sat outside in the big patio. We got a metro pizza, half pancetta and half white truffle, which has no sauce. The crust is super thin and really crispy. It was very good pizza. The caprese salas was also very good, the mozzarella tasted freshly made. Overall, this is one of my favorite pizza restaurants. It never disappoints. It is not especially inexpensive, but the value is worth it.

Neapolitan style pizzeria

By asudarshan3 |

Wonderful wood fired pizzas. Incredibly fast service .Pleasant service. Intimate highland park bistro atmosphere

Excellent pizza crust

By russkwtx |

We went to the restaurant on Mockingbird Lane for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was quite full and noisy, a bit too cold to be on the patio so everyone was inside. We ordered a metro size with half chicken and artichoke hearts and half sausage and Italian pepperoni-like meat that I can't spell or remember. But the pizza was excellent in every way. We started with Caesar salad and it was excellent. This is a great restaurant and we are never disappointed. Will be back for sure.

This place smelled AMAZING!!

By Rachel G |

Oh my gawd ya'll, this was sooo good!! We ordered chicken fettuccine, ravioli, a chicken Margherita pizza, and my version of a Supreme pizza. EVERYTHING was amazing, just like our servers Sienna & Michele(hopefully not misspelled).

Cardboard pizza!!

By GJb40 |

I really don't understand the popularity of this restaurant. Yes, there is a bit of warmth and charm when you enter the restaurant, but the fun stops there. The salads use wilted lettuce, canned ingredients, and bottled salad dressings. The pizza is even worse. They take the same canned ingredients and spread them on the pizza with a tasteless sauce and cardboard crust. There is absolutely nothing authentic about this place. It is too bad as they have an opportunity at the SMU location to attract a great following. I think people go because of its convenience, but I won't be seduced by that fact alone again! I hope management reads this.

Great Pizza Experience! Mockingbird location

By Chris B |

Visited the Mockingbird location last week with my brother and a great friend. We had read the reviews and decided to give it a go. We decided to go with Edgar's recommendations. If you are not sure what you want, ask them! Foccacia appetizer: Very good, but was overshadowed by what was to come I really like pizza. Any shape and cut, but the presentation of the two pizza's we ordered was just fun. A traditional round pizza (pie cut) and a pill shaped (square cut) were placed on the pizza holder on the table. The presentation was impressive. Regular: Regina Margherita and Alfredo was excellent, but ranked 3&4 for me, but look at the picture! Metro: The Dream and Black Truffle was incredible. Cooked perfectly and taste was so good. The Black Truffle was the table favorite, but the Dream was mine (I ate most of it) We (3 of us)had eaten all of the foccacia and left one piece of Alfredo pizza. Normally that would have been enough, but we would have missed the best part of dinner (food). The dessert pizza was to die for. A Nutella, peanut butter, pizza with marshmallows, some fruit (pear) and walnuts. It was like a giant Italian smore. Wow was it good. Great experience and we will be back. They also have some great specials on various days in off times to make the off hours trips worth while. Can't wait for some Sangria!

BEST PIZZA IN TEXAS! SERIOUSLY...

By Mark H |

I'm originally from Austin and as much hype as we get for supersized pizza in the capital, there is nothing like this roman style pizza anywhere else! The idea behind there Dream pizza is genius. Chicken, Jalapeno, Blue Cheese, along with home made dough and cheese defiantly hit the spot. The service was extremely welcoming and very knowledge also. I couldn't help but pick up a to go menu on the way out. I will defiantly be back

Nice find in Dallas

By S m |

My husband and I happened upon this restaurant with no plans but hungry. Fortunately, we arrived before the crowds. The atmosphere was nice with bar and TVs to watch football. The pizza was exellent. Service just OK.

Nothing like real pizza in Italy

By Cory049 |

Have been hearing that Olivella's is one of the best pizza places in Dallas, so we (serious food people) finally had to check it out. Not really quite sure why it is rated so highly. We were completely underwhelmed. It is certainly not the same quality of pizza we have eaten in Italy, or actually even in several other places in Dallas that serve "authentic" pizza. We had salads with a balsamic vinaigrette. I think they forgot that there was supposed to be olive oil in the vinaigrette. We had a pizza with proscuitto on it and the proscuitto was sliced so thickly, you could barely bite through it. Certainly not the way it is supposed to be - thinly sliced. Our other pizza was good, although both seemed slightly under baked. Not like the crust should be - a little crisp on the bottom. Service was cordial and attentive. We will certainly not be back. There are much better places in Dallas to enjoy authentic pizza. Very disappointing.

Best Pizza, Possibly Anywhere

By NativeNewYorker20 |

I see why they've been picked Best in Texas by USAToday and every other local publication. We had both the Neopolitan and Roman style pizzas. I'm from New York and this was better than anything I've had there, including Patsy's in Harlem. We also tried the lasagna, which was equally impressive. Not cheap, but worth it. The SMU kids working there are very nice and precociously professional.

Exceptional wait staff, very good food

By Euroerican |

I did not have pizza, but I couldn't resist trying their foccacia. While it was good, I was a bit put-off that they not only didn't list the fact that there was raw garlic on it, but that they didn't tell me when I asked for only mozzarella on it. It was still yummy - but yeah, you need to let people know exactly what's on the stuff you order. I have a very sensitive stomach, so when I ordered my Caeser salad, I asked for no dressing and just olive oil on the side. The waitress pointed to the bottles on the table, indicating that they were already there. Okay. So when the meal came, I put some oil on my salad, bit into it and my mouth was on FIRE! I panicked, and told them they would need to replace the salad with a new one, as I didn't realize that the olive oil was with peppers. They didn't realize it either, as the peppers were hiding at the bottom of the bottle. The waitress was super gracious and took the salad back without any problem and brought me a new one lickety-split. The waitress was extremely friendly and polite, and from what I could gather the rest of the staff was as well. The food was definitely not worth the amounts they charge - especially the wine. Good gracious! Thirty-eight dollars for a bottle of Cabernet? Seriously? The atmosphere is very loud and lively, even though it's a relatively small restaurant - there is outdoor seating though, which may or may not be quieter, albeit muggier. The pizzas, while I did not have any looked AMAZING - but I don't know what they taste like so I won't give my opinion. Aesthetically though they were quite appealing. The smell is incredible inside, and the music they play is really appropriate for the type of place it is, with older pop and some '60s thrown in there. Fun place all in all.

I don't think I will ever order Dominos again

By Mmmmmm7 |

I have now been to both new pizza joints in Deep Ellum and they don’t come anywhere near Neo (in Victory Park) and Olivella’s (near SMU) crispy crust or sauce. These two sister restaurants are by far the best around and the best I’ve had anywhere—moved here from Boston three years ago. Their Regina margherita is my fave but the Black Truffle is creeping up behind it. The great thing about Neo, too, is that there are patios with great views and two really cool dining areas. Friends and I go every Wednesday night for the half-price wine special, and they say they’ve got awesome summer food and drink specials coming—I’ll keep you posted, when I know more!

Quaint, friendly, and good food! Can get crowded but that's just because the pizza is so delicious!!! Love this place!

Nice location, afternoon special great! Great Pizza!

By gr8one17 |

I love the nice, quaint, atmosphere of this location near SMU. I wanted to get their 2 for 1 "metro" late afternoon pizza special and take it home. They have 2 of their large "metro" pizzas for the price of one from 2:30-5:30 pm Mon-Fri. Very nice people working there, nice wood fired oven, and I could not wait to get home to try the pizza. Well, I didn't. I live about 25 minutes away, so I ate over half of my pepperoni/mushroom pizza on the way home. MMmmmm good! You can tell these pizzas were made from very fresh ingredients. After I got home, I reheated my wife's pizza in the oven as recommended by Olivella's, and it clearly was NOT as good. Maybe the microwave would have been better. The price is a little prohibitive, $20+ per pizza for the metro size, unless you get the special.

By B7406HGangelal |

Metro pizza - best thin crust! So many choices... Pistachio and sausage, black truffle, snow white. Can't wait to try them all. Great wine selection. Wednesday is date night, with great specials. Eat in doors, at the bar, or alfresco.

Value?

By Preston S |

I paid $23 + tax and tip for a glorified cracker with cheese. Profit margins must be through the roof here.

Great salad and friendly service

By WBJM2009 |

Ordered take out from Olivella's - food was good and efficient. Our relatives who live in the area said that they eat here once a week. The pizzas looks amazing, but we only ordered salads. They have a nice outdoor seating area. (We went to the Mockingbird location).

Thin crust

By AuroraDiner |

Really enjoyed my meal here . We split one of the large Diavolo pizzas , had a nice level of heat for a hot spicy pizza . Normally I’d say the portion was a good size for two but it was so good I’d of eaten more . If you prefer thin crust pizza a great choice . Good wine selection and there beer on tap was on special .

reviews were better than the experience

By Barbwilltravel |

My daughter-in-law and I heard about this place and decided to get something before an event at the AA center in Dallas. Although the outside courtyard looked inviting and I can imagine it filled with hungry customers, it was too rainy and cold the day we were there. The restaurant was not filled by any means but it took a good number of minutes for us to be acknowledged and when we said we wanted an order to go the gentleman waved us to the bar for the bartender to take the order. We gave our order and there was no other interaction or conversation although the bartender was standing doing nothing. When our food arrived the sales slip was given to us, we paid still with no comments or even a thank you and we left. I would say that day the employees were not very friendly or encouraging. On the plus side. pizzas are made fresh in a wood burning alcove. As also can be expected ,some parts of the crust are more near the burnt side especially the thin crusts. Many folks had platefuls of burnt crust. Neither the service or food will have us rushing back or giving rave reviews of Olivella's

lovely rainy day Sunday lunch

By jooles_p |

My husband I had lunch at the Lakewood location on a rare rainy Sunday and had a lovely meal. We had the Olivella salad (large enough for 2 to split) and a Rustica pizza on the metro crust and a glass of wine each. The thin crust pizza was delicious and everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying the metro crust pizza. The atmosphere was relaxing and staff was friendly. If you like sports, they had a tv above the bar with the sound off (NASCAR first, then World Cup highlights).

Hands down the best Pizza in Dallas

By Edgar S S |

I decided to give Olivella's a try after driving by it several times. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and sat. The place is not big with only a few tables in there but the ambiance is great. It's a small cozy place for a date night. When we sat down, we had no idea what to order and Brian was great helping us out. I thought it was just another pizza joint, but turns out they come from the 3rd oldest pizza family from Naples, Italy. They were picked best pizza In the state by USA Today and also were featured by Rachael Ray. We ordered 2 Metros (Roman style) Pizzas one being The Dream and the second being Blk Truffle and were definitely not disappointed. the crust was super thin and the toppings were well distributed. You can really taste their home made mozzarella and home made dough. The Blk Truffle was my favorite, Truffle oil can be a little overwhelming for some but I can never have enough. We skipped out on the dessert, but the table next to us ordered the Dessert Pizza which filled the room with a great smell of nutella. I will definitely be back this week to try the dessert pizza a long with their home made Sangria. Please try this place out if you are in the area, you will on be disappointed.

Great food, excellent for families

By deetol |

This has been a great restaurant for our family. Ther service is attentive and prompt. The food is so good. The wine/beer list, while limited, is good. The outdoor patio is also very nice.

Whata-Slice!

By Clinton Q |

Olivella's is the best pizza ever!!! You don't need to take my word just ask the guys over at "USA Today" who voted Olivella's the Best Pizza in Texas. I think of it as yeeehawww yummy!!

Lunch

By BillRuff |

Came here for lunch. Had individual pizza and lasagna.both were great. The food was prepared as ordered. The service was great. It is a small place hidden in University Park but worth the effort to find. Sit inside or out. The wine selection are great. Lots of locals eat here. A hidden treasure in the Park area. Parking can be a challenge with a full size truck but if you try it can be done. The building had character and is nice. Old metal ceiling tiles made of metal. Give it a try I believe you will enjoy.

This is pertinent to the Lakewood site - great pizza as always, indifferent service

By Charles S |

As Lakewood residents we order take-out from Olivellas Lakewood pretty often. We're big fans of the pizza. But I've never gone to do a pickup that the counter person wasn't utterly indifferent to whether I ever came back or not. Not unfriendly - just not interested. You won't get a "Thank you" or a "Glad you came in - come again." Phone behavior is likewise.

Great Pizza in Dallas

By Brittany Davis |

I had a great experience at Olivella's! I went for lunch! Jason my server was so helpful at helping me decide on what to order! He was also so kind! It did not take long for the pizza to come out! I wish there were more toppings on the pizza but it was still delicious! I will definitely come back when I go to Dallas again!

Thin and crispy crust

By John D |

They serve authentic Italian style pizza with thin, crisp crust. Out pistachio pizza was excellent. Their salads are also excellent. This is a small neighborhood pizza place that has a very comfortable interior with nice decor. Our server was attentive and did a great job. This is a definite do over.

Another great meal

By ShaSha66 |

My daughter, son in law, husband, and I went here for dinner. The wait person told us that it was half-price wine night....half off a bottle of wine. Great deal. The guys split a bottle and I had a glass of their delicious sangria. We had Nordics salad and Pianura salad. Both were very good. We ordered the Rustics and the Dream metro pizza with the really thin crust. Both were absolutely yummy. On top of having great food, we had great service and sat outside to eat in a lovely little area.

Best Coal Fired Pizza

By tschuh |

A wonderful coal fired pizza joint. Our entire family loves this local restaurant. Yummy pizza, along with other items from the menu. A few of our favorites are the lasagna, simple yet delicious! The best appetizer is the sushi parma, always throws me off, it is mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto, for some reason, the name just doesn't fit for me, but it is wonderful. Here is a tip, weekdays . . . order before 5:00 and get two for one metro size pizzas! Very good deal!!! Our favorite is the Regina Margarita, tomato, cheese and basil, simple yet wonderful. Try the nutella dessert pizza. The University Park location is very small, but it is nice that they have other locations to visit or call in and pick up.

So overpriced

By SuzySP |

Dinner on a Thursday night. One of the group suggested Olivella's on Mockingbird. It's a pleasant place, but the pizza is just ok. I had thin crust with onion, sausage, and mozzarella. The onions were thick, raw slices that totally overpowered the other ingredients. Iced tea to drink had almost no ice in it. $26 before tip is way too much for pizza and iced tea.

Stick with the pizza

By Sandra L |

This is a favorite neighborhood spot with absolutely fantastic pizza. We thought we would try some pasta this time. The chicken pesto pasta is great with a creamy pesto sauce and tender noodles. Lasagna was ok and the spaghetti and meatballs was poor (almost tasted like frozen meatballs!). Pizza is always fantastic- cooked in a brick oven with a great crust and toppings. Stick to pizza at this favorite spot and save the pasta for elsewhere.

Best pizza around

By Julia H |

Have been here multiple times. Nice patio area. If you love thin crispy crust this is it!!! The pepperoni rolls on the appetizer menu are fantastic!!! The Snow White pizza with the chili oil sprinkled on is yummy!!! Try it out

Fantastic flavorful thin crust pizza

By Catherine L |

Great service mixed with flavorful food equals a great dining experience. The homemade burrata and mozzarella really made this pizza place an upscale experience! Bursting with flavors like truffle, pesto and freshness, we left with full tummies and a great memory of the visit. The staff were exceptional...very attentive and kind at directing us through the menu to find items we would love, and boy did we!

One of the worst Pizza's ever

By Doug D |

I am a pizza aficionado, traveled around Italy eating pizza and like all pizza styles from Chicago to NY style and love Neapolitan pizza. This pizza needs to have its own classification that describes a pizza that taste like cardboard . I had the Black Truffle and San Daniele ,as well as a Salad and do not think one item had any flavor . They have a sign that says they are a top 50 in the U.S. from USA Today and I have no idea why? if you want better pizza that is cheaper , more authentic and flavorful head over to Fireside Pies , or Cavalli's. I did not complain as I do not think you can fix lack of taste and do not blame the staff . All of us in the group regretted going here and I will not be going back . I often find things in Highland park are over hyped overpriced and overrated and this one fits that category perfectly. The only reason we ate here was because Fireside is not open for lunch and I wish they were .

Gourmet Pizza in DFW

By Ojas N |

One of the initial places that started the whole gourmet pizza deal in the DFW area. The menu is very unique. The sangria is a little disappointing but the pizza's themselves are freakin awesome

Excellent Pizza!

By TexasShark73 |

The pizza is fantastic. I had the rustica. We went for lunch on a rainy spring break day last week. The service was attentive and very friendly. Great, casual atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Black Truffle Heaven

By Bill W |

The black truffle is so good when you get it on the metro crust. I have never had such an amazing pizza. The Nutella mousse is also great.

TRUE ITALIAN PIZZA IN DALLAS!!!

By Shelby F |

My husband and I brought our three kids to Olivella's Lakewood and had a great experience! Our server brought out the kids' cheese pizza right away while my husband and I decided on a specialty pizza. We chose the San Daniele in the True Roman style crust and it was delicious! The arugula and prosciutto toppings were so fresh, and the house made mozzarella was the perfect compliment to the delicately flavored red sauce (also made in-house, wow!). We will definitely be bringing our family back here and recommending to our friends!

Expectations dashed.

By Chris D |

I read so many good reviews on this. What the??? My order was a carry out while traveling to Dallas on business and staying within a mile of this place. Got there just as it was coming out of the oven. The place was small and crowded and really looked & smelled great. Delicious looking pizzas adorned the diner's tables. My mouth was watering as the staff handed me the box. I got it in my car and, waiting at a red light, couldn't wait to grab a slice...... ...splat. The tomato sauce slid to my lap. The crust was droopy and when I got the pizza back to the hotel room I noticed that they didn't put the proscuitto on! (San Daniele pizza). Maybe this place is good if you stay in. It sure looked like it but my carry out experience was very disappointing.

Rachael Ray, we're calling you out!

By DeeJayGude |

She says this is "the most incredible pizza you will ever eat!" No. It's not even the best pizza in Texas, as USA Today claimed. Don't get me wrong: it's good, just not the best or all that incredible. Maybe Rachael just needs to eat more pizza. Our pizza was room temp when it arrived. The pan holding it wasn't even hot. That might have had something to do with our lukewarm (ha) reaction, and if so Olivella's needs to address that. We had the pepperoni rolls for app and they were seriously good, served with fresh bright tomato sauce for dipping. I had the Della Carne pizza and my companion has the Rustica. Both were barely room temp, and parts were actively cold. It appeared to have been hot at some point because the cheese was melted, although congealed by the time it got to us. Clearly it sat for some time before making its way to our table. The crust was a winner - we're cooks and pizza snobs and say things like, "Oh, they must be using 00 flour." And Olivella's must be using 00 flour because it had that light chewy quality you don't get with all-purpose. But again...it wasn't hot and that pretty much ruined it. The restaurant itself is small, but cute. We sat outside because the weather was so nice, but the inside is pubby and warm looking. The service was friendly and prompt....unless you want to be suspicious about that cold pizza. Just not impressed and there's no real reason for us to go back. Sorry, Rachael.

Beer and pizza before hockey-yay!

By Tibby H |

If you can sit outside you can people watch before the game, which is nice if you are visiting, to get a feel for it. The pizza was the perfect size for 1-2 people as the menu suggests. Good place to stop and have a bite before the game.

Outstanding pizza and service!

By Tom W. |

My wife and I ate at Olivella's on Mockingbird last night. It was my first visit but my wife had been there a few times with co-workers. We split a Metro that was half Black Truffle (my choice) and half sausage, pepperoni, mushroom and jalapeno (wife's choice.) I ended-up liking hers better and she liked mine better. There's another pizza place we have always rated number one, but Olivella's is right there with it. We were lucky enough to be there on a Tuesday - half priced wine bottles night. Another big plus - the service was great! Will be returning many times.

Dinner before AAC game!

By jcmama |

2340 Victory Park Lane, Dallas My husband, 2 sons and I ate here before an AAC game. Within walking distance to AAC. Pizza was great and the service was even better! Awesome little place that got pretty busy right after we got there, whew! It was fun. Again, staff was awesome.

I was expecting more

I love true Italian pizza and was looking very forward to Olivella's as I had heard much about it and read many good reviews. My wife and I split a salad and a "metro" pizza with two different sides so that we could try various toppings. Overall, I was not that impressed. The salad was fine, although nothing special. Although we did not wait long, the pizza arrived pretty much room temperature, so after the second slice we were essentially eating cold pizza. The toppings, pancetta and sundried tomatoes on one side and sausage and peppers on the other were fine but not outstanding. The service was good. Our waitperson was very friendly and helpful and there at the right times. The patio is nice; there are few this big in Dallas. Finally, the value. $76 bucks for a a cold pizza, a split salad and 3 drinks. Before tip. There are a lot of alternatives in Dallas with better pizza and a much better value.

Good pizza

Not so great service. Pizza crust was yummy. Olivella salad had 1-2 drops of dressing, not enough to tell you were just eating grass with some nuts sprinkled on top. They forgot the artichokes on one of the pizzas. All in all, pretty good, but inconsistent. Worth a second chance.

Quaint neighborhood pizzeria

Small and cozy...great date night spot. Caesar salad was excellent. The regular Della Carne pizza needed a minute or two longer in the brick oven. The large slices of onion made the pizza soggy. Could also have benefitted from some salt/seasoning.

Best pizza I have ever had

By Kimberly T |

The margarita pizza was the best pizza I have ever eaten. The staff were friendly and offered great suggestions. The infused pepper oil was an excellent pairing with the pizza. The atmosphere of the restaurant gave the vibe as if we were in a small village somewhere. I cannot wait until we visit Dallas again. I am counting the days until I get to have the most delicious pizza again.

Great thin crust pizzas

Unique menu and excellent pizzas. Salads are not always fresh which is my only complaint with the place. The restaurant has recently expanded and sits right across from SMU. Fun family and date place. Outside tables are really nice other than the summer months.

Delicious unique pizza

By JC N |

I drive by here and see the "best pizza in Texas according USA Today" sign everyday. When I brought my family in the atmosphere and service were good but the pizza was amazing. I got a thin crust 'metro' pizza and had a half priced bottle of wine as a special on Tuesdays . The waiter told us about a buy one get one free deal before 530 so I will definitely be back

THE Customer Service Earns them 5****.

By Foodlover237 |

THE Customer Service Earns them 5****. It wasn't too long ago that Dallas seemed seemed to me a true Pizza desert. There was plenty of spongy bread with tons of tomato paste, and soaked in oil masquerading as and even daring to call itself Pizza being served out of the usual American delivery chains, but little in the way of what I actually know to be Pizza. Pizza itself one of the worlds most lovable, and simple foods so absolutely easy to get right, and all too often desecrated and trampled upon has been seeing the light of day in Dallas in the past few years, and as more and more Dallasites begin to get an idea of what a true Pizza is I could not be happier. Olivella's has helmed this introduction to a more authentic for of Pizza since its opening in 2009. Since then more and more Neapolitan pizzerias have sprung up, and have made great contributions to the Dallas food scene that any Italian expat, and any Dallasite can be happy about, but Olivella's does deserve much credit for initiating the movement. I began my sampling of their offerings with a pesto, goat cheese, sun dried tomato focaccia, which is served with a side of Olive Oil/herb for dipping. Massive points must be awarded to the Pesto it is delicious, and almost tastes like my own! Of course goat cheese and pesto is a very hard combination to beat, but what also impressed me was the quality of the olive oil that came with the focaccia. They did not go the cheap route, as so many restaurants do when giving olive oil for dipping, or salad. The focaccia bread itself was not a consistency that I am used to but it was not unpleasant all elements considered, I would order this app again. Next I sampled a pizza al metro split Black Truffle and Margherita, the Black Truffle which was explained to me is their highest seller certainly deserves the title. The black truffle oil, mushroom, and speck pull no punches, and make one killer combination. This is the kind of flavor combination that other pizzas want to have, and cry shamefully at night for not being able to mimic. The margherita al metro comes with plenty of parmesan dusted atop in order to bring its salt component, it is for this case that I much prefered the Margherita in the regular pizza format as I sampled both the Margherita di bufala, and Margherita with their housemade mozzarella. This is where I must take my hat off again to Olivella's (btw Olivella's if you find a fedora please call I literally took my hat off to you and cannot find it now..) Housemade mozzarella is very commendable, as is the fact that the crust was the perfect consistency. The fact that they manage to get this type of crust consistency, and make their mozzarella in house daily speaks volumes of their establishment's dedication to their product. The crust did not flop over even after sitting on the table after two minutes (The mark that lesser balanced Pizzas will flop at). Basil distribution was perfect throughout. Next was a Prosciutto and Mozzarella panino (Yes it's Panino panini is plural for sandwiches, please use it correctly) It came served with a nice mixed green salad and a pesto/balsamic mixture as dressing. I don't know if people dip this panino into the dressing or not, but it doesn't need it. The prosciutto is salty enough, and balanced off perfectly by the mozzarella simple and delicious just as Italian food should be. This is another item I would order again. Once again Olivella's impressed me when I tried their dressing on the salad. I will admit I was skeptical about the pesto/balsamic mixture... Nonna never did that nor has anybody's nonna that I have ever met anywhere in Italy, and yet Olivella's had me copying this move once I got home with a bit of my own leftover pesto. A fantastic combination, and a great idea for a different salad from time to time. The sampling was concluded with a dessert Pizza which consisted of Nutella, peanut butter, marshmallow, walnuts, and apple. The marshmallow toasts up nicely in the oven, and what you end up eating is campfire s'mores in pizza form.. this take on sweet pizza could not be more american, indulgent or delicious it really satisfied the kid inside me that night. While I am not one for dessert and thus won't be likely to order it again, I was in kid heaven while I chewed the diabolically delicious delectable chocolatey nutty treat. Olivella's at Lakewood has one of the best Patios in Dallas, but also a piece of history, while it does have increasing competition it would be wrong to ignore the debt any new Pizzeria offering something more than spongy bread trying to pass itself off as pizza owes to Olivella's. Lastly I must say that the customer service, and dedication from the entire crew earns them their fifth star!

Good pizza at SMU

This is a cozy pizza joint with thin crust brick oven pizza with casual atmosphere. It could get a bit noisy and busy during peak times but that is to be expected. Although it was full the service was timely. Pizza was tasty.

Excellent thin crust pizza

By russkwtx |

This is one of our favorite pizza places--the crust is thin and crispy. We got a pancetta pie for 3-4 people (called Romano I think) for $21. It was excellent. Caesar salad was ok but a bit overdressed. Service is good. Place is very small so there may be a wait for a table if you at popular hours.

Very good pasta and pizza

By Schultz79 |

First time in, and was more than pleased. Very nice wine selection, garden salads were just right in size and ingredients, their homemade flat breads were excellent. But the best-of-the-best was the White Truffle pizza! It was absolutely wonderful! However, the veggie pizza was only fair.

BEST PIZZA IN TEXAS!!!!

By Aaron W |

I took my girlfriend to Olivella's Lakewood on the recommendation of a friend. We consider ourselves experts on pizza, and are always looking for a good spot to enjoy. My friend told me Olivella's is the best pizza in the state, so we had to check it out for ourselves! We sat on their large patio and tried their refreshing red sangria while we waited for our pizza. We ordered "The Dream," which we were told was their best seller. It was absolutely delicious!! The unusual combination of jalepeños, gorgonzola, chicken and pancetta worked surprisingly well, and the pizza crust was EXTRA thin, just the way we like it. The USA Today review was right, this really is the best pizza in the state!!

Great Family Atmosphere.....

By James E |

Olivella's is a great place to enjoy fresh pizza no matter how you like it. The kids enjoyed watching the flames in the brick pizza oven and coloring on the erasable placemats with markers provided by Olivella's. The service was very fast and the management team was hands on during the night. Highly recommend!

Best pizza in DFW

By Neil M |

Olivella's pizza is 2x better than Cane Rosso, thus it should be considered the highest standard in pizza in the DFW area. The mushroom truffle metro pizza was flawless and extremely delicious. I also had one of the best Sangria cocktails i've ever tasted and i've had many, it harnessed a very unique flavor. Their pizza is so ridiculously thin but well balanced it's clearly an art-form they have practically mastered. I will be back without a doubt. They are so passionate about what they do at Olivella's that they contacted me after I posted a less than enthusiastic review for Cane Rosso and they said don't give up on pizza in Dallas, try our pizza first and man they weren't joking. If you are looking for pizza in Dallas this is where you go, period. End of story : )

Great addition to SMU area and UP

Excellent pizza and other food in the Neapolitan style. Try the Diavola. And the Caprese is terrific, with the house-made mozzarella.

Can I rate it lower than...

By Dream82114 |

Can I rate it lower than one star? The waiter/hostess guy was the rudest I have ever had. After that it was all down hill. Pizza isn't good or filling. We actually end up going to Chili's afterward to eat because we were that unimpressed and still hungry. Lots of folks love it, but I don't ever plan on going back to give them another job, too many good nice pizza places in Dallas to mess with them again.

now thats PIZZA!

We had the pizza recently and it was divine! Super flavorful sauce, crisp crust (even though it was delivered). Had the pizza margherita and it was molto bene!
