Stylish, Upscale Korean

By hungry2eat |

We had read about Oseyo a few months ago after it opened and wanted to try it out for a special occasion (two couples and a toddler). It exceeded expectations. Service was attentive yet subtle, the decor quite modern. We enjoyed two small plates as appetizers: Gun Mandu (veggy dumplings) and Pa Jeon (shrimp and scallion pancake). My main course was the Bulgogi (marinated ribeye) served with rice, lettuce for wrapping, five small bowls including soybean/chili paste, dipping sauce and some greens. The glass of a red blend wine, Chateau Vignot, Saint Emilion, was smooth, complex and pleasing with each sip.

Good …. correction … excellent

Hip high end establishment with good indoor/outdoor seating. In most eating establishments some dishes are home runs, some just ok … some a mistake … now to the food Appetizer-Jjjn Mandu dumplings- ok Bulgogi - the meat is ok… the deconstructed sides are really good… there’s plenty of sides Kalbi - Excellent… hmm hmm hmm . The rib was perfectly grilled with the right amount of glaze. Chicken Bucket - Excellent… home run. The chicken was tender, juicy and the run was just right. Heavenly. This is hard to do. This is a lot of food for two… but we were planning to take some home.

Korean Home Cooking in East Austin

By Jessica |

Oseyo offers Korean home cooking in a hip but cozy ambiance in East Austin. You can see the attention to detail everywhere. They have very creative cocktails and a full bar. There's a lot of space indoors and out to wait if you didn't make a reservation or you just want to take it slow. The food was all really fresh and the sauces are what really made the dishes for me. There are a variety of small plates, entrees, noodles, and soups. In addition to all the grilled meat entrees, there were a lot of veggie options and they use GF soy sauce which is rare. There's really something for everyone here.

We had the dumplings and they

We had the dumplings and they were super delicious and phantastic. We will defensively go back and have a full dinner. The way the pickup was organized was great. Great communication.

Really cute decor; hits and misses on food

We ate here last night. This is a great space for a restaurant with great decorations. The service was great too! To drink, the three of us shared a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The wine list is a bit pricey, and they have a limited selection. We started off with the dumplings. They were ok; the dumplings could have been a little more tender, but had good flavor. Next, we had the shrimp pancake. This was so good, and I loved the sauce with which it was paired. We then had the bi bim bop, Bulgogi, and noodles for our main. Of the three, the noodles were delicious. The bi bim bop lacked flavor and was served in a piping hot pot so the rice immediately overcooked. The Bulgogi was good, but lacked sauce. Fortunately, they did serve some spicy oils and hot sauce so I was able to create my own.

Wonderful dinner

I went to Oseyo Korean Restaurant one night with family and friends. We took an Uber to the restaurant as there was limited parking around the area. This was my first time going to a Korean Restaurant, so it was a new experience to me. We ordered a variety of dishes and we weren’t disappointed with any of them. Excellent food and excellent service.

Come on In - Oseyo

Always on the lookout for good Korean eats and this place is definitely worth the visit and return in the future. I read so much about it on Eater Austin and Culture Map that I have to give it a try. Just a note, I accidentally put two people into OpenTable and there was no available time until late. Luckily I was meaning to put three people for reservation and a lot more time show up for availability. We had the community table and that was perfectly fine as you need space for the food and coming early for dinner mean you got the table the majority of the time. The must order item is the Kalbi dish. The dish was so good and although it looks very simple, it was very flavorful and soft. I don't think I had a better Kalbi here in Austin. The next thing I recommended would be the Tong Dak (spicy sweet korean chicken - appetizer) but do yourself a favor and order two order - see picture. The portion is very small however the taste is surprisingly a good spicy and sweet. I didn't really care to rave about korean chicken but the marinating on this plate is really balance. The pickle also is very good. Enjoy! We order the veggie dumpling but its alright, the skin of the dumpling was a little off (thick and not as soft) - could be better. The bibimbap was like any other place so nothing to talk about - good enough. Since this was our first time, we want to start off slow but now we know that its pretty good, we can't wait to come back and try the other side of the menu. One last thing, the drinks were pretty good and legit so the bar is not just for show. Order a few drinks!

New. Excellent. Must Visit!

My dinner at Oseyo was excellent. The service was very attentive, the creative menu is meant to be shared and the cocktails are imaginative with unique ingredients and flavors. Opening for dinner at 4:00pm is sure to make Oseyo popular for Happy Hour or an early dinner and the ample parking is very unusual for an establishment on Cesar Chavez! I'm not sure what the bathrooms were scented with but even that experience was pleasant!

Awesome place.

Great food, chic place !

So we walked from downtown through a pretty questionable area to get to Oseyo. We found a pearl sitting in poverty ? Unbelievable place, chic, great service and the food was 100/100. Would like to see some Korean Soju on the menu though. We had an excellent bottle of sake instead.

Lots of vegan options and friendly service

Elevated Korean

By EricPBliss |

The wood-fired mackeral was awesome! But we dug into that and our Ddukbokki so fast, my only picture is near the end. The Ddukbokki was much better than I thought it would be...the flavors were strong and dead-on. The Soju was really a cut above what I buy at Specs too...so clean. Really, this is not Korean food relative to some of my faves like Charm and Jan Chi...it's elevated to a point of being its own thing. The sides were good and the lettuce wrap slant was amusing--we'll be back to try more on the menu and to get some better pics. They have some kewl ice creams and korean pastry not on the menu for dessert, too. Staff greeted us very nicely and were quite accomodating seating us at the bar with no reservations. Our bartenders killed it with some great advice and drinks too--the Reserve Soju (not pictured) was a great way to end things for me. And they're going to have like a street market setup coming soon to their outdoor area--wow! 5 stars.

Bangapseumnida, Oseyo!

I’m bursting with excitement over the addition of Oseyo to Austin’s dining scene after eating dinner there last night! While living in Seoul for 2.5 years, I grew fond of Korean fare and was asked often by students I taught there when Korean cooking would catch on in the US. They were proud of their food (rightly so) and wondered why it wasn’t as widely embraced as other Asian cuisines. I had my own theories, but diplomacy and general awareness of my place as a foreigner kept me from vocalizing much. Suffice it to say that the folks at Oseyo seem to have nailed all the factors to garner Korean cuisine the recognition and acclaim it deserves. Oseyo’s food is pleasing to the eye; the dishes all taste outstanding, with Korean-specific traits (e.g. fishy kimchi, garlic prevalence) toned down for American palates; the restaurant decor is sleek and modern while incorporating traditional Korean elements; and the cocktail menu is vast —encompassing a variety of spirits rather than relying solely on soju. My husband and I sat at the bar and were well taken care of by Jonathan, Richie, and Jay. Every dish we ordered was superb including: ddukbokki; gun mandu; tong dak; kalbi; and hodduk. On our way out, I saw the owner herself and was thrilled to thank her in person for bringing her vision to life in ATX. I cannot wait to return to Oseyo and in the meantime will be singing its praises to all. This one’s a keeper, Austin. Kamsa hamnida, Team Oseyo!

Great atmosphere. The food is amazing worth waiting for. We went on the late side. Can't wait to go back. Even their mocktail was great. Great service. Awesome place to nourish Korean food nostalgia.

Above Average Korean

By Yiyu W |

The Korean food here is fairly decent, above average, but I don't get the massive hype surround the restaurant. I would describe it as good, but not amazing. It does have phenomenal ambiance though.

Not the best experience for me

By SonnyBalentineJr |

Why do my friends fall for this sort of place? If you want to be seen with some young thing, or are trying to impress your bro’s with your ethnic food wisdom, maybe you have a place at Oseyo. Me, not so much. With the exception of one lovely waitress, the whole table felt poorly treated by the oh so busy staff. There was not a dish that rose above mediocre. The beef was inedible. There are many much better options for Korean dining that include excellent food, and the wonderful Korean traditions of real hospitality.
