Osteria, on the Avenue of the Arts North offers dining in one of the most exciting neighborhoods in Philadelphia enjoying a renaissance. Fine service and good food. I have eaten there with colleagues in a private area and enjoyed the privacy, as well as fine meal.

My husband and I have been going to Osteria since it opened. It has always been consistently good and over time we got to know the staff. We were always greeted warmly and made to feel like old friends coming back to visit. Good memories were made here. But nothing stays the same. We noticed a few changes when the Urban Outfitters group took over but the staff remained the same and the service and food quality remained high. But our visit this past weekend changed. A new group (the Schulson group) took over in the early fall and maybe like all new takeovers, the rough edges need to be smoothed out. Most of the former staff has gone -not sure if this was a coincidence. We found our service that night to be uneven. I noticed another reviewer posted below had the same experience so maybe it was an "off night". We were seated and waited a seemingly long time before someone came to bring us of water, then again a very long time before our waiter came over to ask if we had questions. I also had to ask for bread which was never brought over. There were no specials and the menu seemed smaller than I remember although all the Osteria "greatest hits" remained. We ordered 3 starters and an entree each. The starters came out all at once and were just plopped in front of us. The roasted veggie platter didn't come with any explanation of what was on the platter and the lighting was so dim we really couldn't see. (Speaking of lighting, I saw many diners young and old whip out their phone flashlights to read the menu) Once the starter dishes were cleared my entree came out but my husband's took another 10 min. I waited for his to come out and of course by then mine was no longer hot. We ordered a Gelato to split and my husband ordered tea. The Gelato came out but we had to ask for the tea. When the check arrived we noticed that the 3 glasses of wine we had during the meal were not included in the check - we had to tell our server about the omission. The food was still good but the warmth and caring was not there. It seems like just any other big company owned restaurant that only cares about making a profit but not creating great food and a great dining experience. It will be a while before we return.

We have been there many times. The current Ribeye Tartare is the best beef tartare we have had certainly in recent memory. Truly exceptional. The charred octopus appetizer was also great. We had the duck pasta and the mezzelune. The latter was a bit overly sweet, but good. The duck pasta was again excellent. Service was very fine and attentive; we were there before any crowds for an early dinner, and the noise level was as a result very comfortable.

This is first class operation from start to finish! Bread choices were certainly baked on premises. Main dish choices were varied and all prepared as ordered. Food items were very fresh. All plates nicely garnished. Service was spot on. Servers anticipated every request and were very attentive. Restaurant works like a finally tuned machine.

Made reservations through open table.com tables ready upon our arrival. Menu was unique and wide variety of different libations were offered, ordered two different pizzas and they were very good thin crust and special cheeses. Salad portion was generous, and service was quick and thorough. The physical building was interesting and provided a great atmosphere.

We have eaten here multiple times before and really liked it This time not so much Long wait for table despite reservation Menu much smaller and not very enticing Trying to be unconventional ? Food ok Nothing special Service not so great Wouldn't rush back A big disappointment

Marc Vetri's ode to Italian bistros is another successful venue to his growing empire. His venture into the restaurant desert on Broad Street just north of City Hall has proven once again that he is a culinary adventurer. And Philly's adventurists have followed enjoying Osteria's delightfully creative and delicious plates coming from a highly skilled kitchen staff. With a full service bar, friendly, knowledgeable staff and comfortably spaced seating, dining is a very pleasant experience. Though the menu offers full platters, my wife and I along with our two dining companions opted for a series of appetizers to compliment our wines selected from the excellent wine list. The pasta appetizers including delicate ravioli were light and delightfully satisfying to our palates. Shared plates of soft shell crab was a wonderful find the evening we were there. We ended the evening with a shared dish of multiple flavors of in house made gelato, a refreshing finish to a very pleasurable evening.

We visited with other couples on a Saturday night. Service was prompt, patient and unobtrusive. I had grilled octopus for an appetizer and rabbit for my entree. The octopus was the best I've ever eaten; superior even to Lidia's in KC. The rabbit was moist and thoughtfully presented. My spouse had ravioli which she raved about. The wine list was extensive and expensive. I would go back any time.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Osteria is a local gem. Menu has a great selection - from pizza to more elegant fare. Every was delicious. We had the fried artichokes with burrata, Insalata with peas for appetizers. I had the pasta with clams and fennel sausage - perfect. My daughter comes from NYC for the chicken liver pasta. The cocktail and wine menus are diverse. Expensive? I don't think so. Not for the quality they provide. But If you're on a budget, order pizza!

We loved our meal here years ago when it was a Vetri restaurant. Returning, we were surprised to find that the whole experience was consistently still a treat. Food and service was consistently outstanding with 5 different dishes we ordered. One pasta dish that wasn’t exactly an Alfredo just melted in our mouths. The house made gelato selection was delicious. Even the bread basket with focaccia and Italian bread had a little something extra to it. The attention to detail here really comes through.

It's a very large place and can easily seem crowded. The portions are small and pricey, though not outrageous. I had sopressini, which are open, floppy slices of pasta with no particular shape that I noticed, almost as if they were a side dish on the plate. Unusual, but perfectly heavenly pasta all on its own, and it came with a superb meat sauce of rabbit. This was a total triumph of Italian food. The wine was good (but $14 a glass) and I had dessert which I've now forgotten and a glass of some sweet liqueur which I found awful (like cough medicine) and which they effortlessly took back and took off the bill. I am very happy that I live close by.

Had a 6:30 reservation, got there a few minutes late, were seated right away in the outer room which was nice and quite. Marco our server was excellent. Water poured drink order taken drinks arrived all in the first 7 minutes. Apps arrived about 5 minutes later. After apps table cleared and cleaned , new place settings and silver, main course arrived a few minutes after. Overall excellent

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of having dinner this evening at this very special Italian restaurant. The food was so superb and authentic we felt like we were having dinner in Rome. Steven, our waiter, was truly excellent ; very professional, caring, friendly, and accommodating. Bill, the maitre ‘d, was also lovely, professional, and knowledgeable. We had the special tasting menu for $65.00 per person, which was a true culinary experience. Some favorites were the rigatoni with chicken livers (yummy and different,) the octopus appetizer, the chicken entree, and the pork entree with cherries. The chef sent over a few surprises along the way, like an amazing salad. All food was beautifully prepared, well thought out, delicious, of excellent quality, and visually appealing. And the portions were well sized. We had two amazing desserts: a combination of cherry sorbet, praline and pecan gelato, and pistachio gelato, and a unique and delicious creamy polenta with hazelnut pudding and chopped hazelnuts on top. Nothing we ate was ordinary or the usual food that one would have in an Italian restaurant. And everything is made on the premises; including the pasta, gelato, other desserts, and the outstanding bread. I had an interesting cocktail made with grapefruit granita, vodka, and prosecco. What a meal! We are New Yorkers and really appreciate outstanding restaurants like Osteria! We highly recommend this restaurant for an unforgettable dinner when in Philadelphia.

Thank you Marco & team for a really great birthday supper. From the help with a lovely wine, to making omnivores & vegan perfectly happy, along with the most cozy & welcoming atmosphere, I’m so glad we found you.

This was a birthday dinner for my wife and she loved it. Truly not my usual kind of restaurant but I have to admit the food was great. We chose the family style tasting option with the rib eye as the main course. Everything was excellent. Service was totally 5 Star. Olivia was our server and I can’t begin to tell you how awesome she was.

Everything from beginning to end went smooth. Pulled up in front - valet $18, not bad. Met inside by suited host exuding professionalism & politeness. Beautiful decor inside & in the garden area where we sat by a window. Friendly all the way around. Waitress helpful and accommodating. Food exceptional with the melding of flavors u can't imagine until u try, and don't b afraid to try something different. Best app I've ever (EVER) had was the pancetta, arugala, with a slightly tuna flavored sauce. Still thinking of it weeks later. Will absolutely return.

Start with valet parking at $18. Sip on a small glass of wine that costs what a bottle costs at the State store. Then suffer through a mediocre meal that costs more than it's worth. No thanks! Avoid this place in a city loaded with superior alternatives. CaptMakai

I'll have to write a longer review after a second visit, but I can tell you that the happy hour choices are delicious and very reasonably priced. Extremely well-organized kitchen (as you'll see if you're seated at the counter). Just one luscious dish after another. Very busy, since it's probably the best restaurant of its kind in this mixed neighborhood.

all the ANTIPASTI were good , not fantastic, but pasta selection was really good ... not so common to serve that receipt. I appreciate the effort and result ... veramente buone le conchigliette e la pasta casareccia con ragu di cinghiale Wine selection was good, but please open the bottle in front of the costumer ... is part of the experience

We visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening and it gave the impression of not having paid its lighting bill. I am all for atmospherics but I like to read the menu with recourse to the torch on my phone! When I did read it, I was more than a little surprised by some of the food combinations and pricing as they didn’t seam typically Italian. That said, we gave it a try. Sadly it wasn’t that great with portion sizes being small for the prices, and the combinations really not working.

Ok, what did I miss? My husband and I came for dinner, along with my sister and brother-in-law, early on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was beautiful - open and airy. Our server was pleasant and helpful, and the service was good. That said, I was not impressed with the food. We shared a few appetizers (polpo pizze, grilled octopus, and the smoked salmon). Our entrees consisted of robiola "francobolli" and the chicken liver rigatoni. I was expecting something more, considering my past experience at Vetri. Osteria just didn't deliver. The high price of our meal was certainly not indicative of the food.

First, the food was absolutely fantastic as always. Everything we ordered gets 5 out of 5 stars. Except for one entree. Not bad, but not great. However, the service was just off. When we were seated we were told that it was a “free flowing” kitchen and dishes would arrive, whenever???? But the waiter would ensure the sequence was proper. It was not. We ordered water, cocktails, bread, appetizers and entrees. And said that we would be ordering some wine. So we got the cocktails. Before we were done the appetizers arrive then water and bread ( second request) and that we wanted to order some wine. Entrees come. Finally the sommelier? Arrives. He said he would bring a couple of options. Time passes. We asked for him again. (One person seemed annoyed that we were asking for him) then when we were almost done with out main course, he comes with two bottles. We finally opted for a couple of glasses. Don’t even know what we got. Disappointing because it ruined what would have been an almost perfect evening

Excellent from beginning to end. I called to ask about gluten-free dining and the hostess was helpful and patient. Our server was great - very helpful, great personality. The steak tartare was the best I've ever had (even without bread). Rabbit with soft polenta was also delicious. The sommelier was very helpful - he chose a great wine for us. Top notch everything.

We (a set of parents and our two twenty-something children) had an early New Year's Eve dinner at Osteria. I was most impressed with the service we received: everyone from the hostess .. to the maitre d' .. to our server was happy to have us there. They bent over backwards to make sure we were content, even cheerfully agreeing to move us from our table in the chilly, stark solarium to the more inviting and warm main room. The only weak link in the service chain, surprisingly, was the sommelier, for whom we had to wait a good 20 minutes. Our first NYE beverage was going to come from a bottle of wine so starting our celebration out with glasses of water was a disappointment. When the wine steward finally arrived, he offered no apology for the delay; gave no explanation about the wine we chose; and seemed knowledge deficient - having to search the label to answer my husband's question. Our female server was the exact opposite of that fellow: she answered all of our questions about menu items in great detail, and was familiar with flavors and ingredients. Her explanations helped our group choose appetizers of 'salemi' platter, fresh mozzarella cheese and wood grilled octopus. They were delicious and unusual; Osteria is not a place to order an insalada mista with options like these. My tablemates also loved their main courses: rabbit, chicken and boar bolognese. I ordered the trout, which was the least appealing. The fish was tasty, however, the stuffing of cauliflower, almonds and truffle (one of the reasons I ordered the trout - yet, I couldn't taste it) had a bizarre flavor, texture and color. One so-so menu item aside, I recommend Osteria for its service, atmosphere and modern twist on traditional Italian.

The food and service were excellent. Since I’m now in my mid 50’s, I find I didn’t like the very low lighting and the music was a little too loud.

We held a birthday celebration for 26 people on a Saturday evening during the Holiday Season and the execution was almost flawless. We did a 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. All of the food was delicious and we offered multiple choices for each course. Pizzas were wonderful with perfect crusts. Even our teenagers adored the grilled octopus and the pasts were delicate and incredible. Main courses were chicken with beets (I am not normally a beet fan but these were done to perfection, a rib roast and salmon. The salmon may have been the meal low point but was still solid. Desserts were delicious as well. Frank Kinyon, the somelier, did a wonderful job finding fantasic wines to pair with each course, taking our preferences into account and suggesting some pairing we would not have thought of. All together not a cheap experience, but a wonderful one. The room in the back was ideal.

We were looking for authentic Italian food, and we found it. Everything was very good. We had pizza Margherita, which was absolutely outstanding, certainly one of the best I have ever had in the US. Thin, perfectly cooked crust, made with an excellent dough, that has obviously had time to rise and rest. Perfect fresh tomato sauce – instead of the unfortunately typical American heavy overcooked sauce with tons of garlic. Perfect mozzarella, perfect cooking, crispy, flavorful, perfect level of salt. As appetizers we tried the "grilled eggplant "caponata" with bufala mozzarella, tomato and basil", and the "plum and heirloom tomato salad with goat cheese custard", both fresh and well made, even if slightly overdressed. Then we tasted their "robiola "francobolli" postage stamp ravioli with royal trumpet mushrooms and thyme", excellent, prepared with absolutely fresh delightful mushrooms, cooked to perfection and very balanced. The "cornbread strangolapreti with sage brown butter" – a sort of gnocchi traditionally made of bread and cheese with the addition of fresh corn kernels in this case – were a great surprise, and just delicious. The "spaghetti with pesto alla trapanese" were cooked at the moment to perfection, "al dente", and were delightful, once again obviously made with very fresh ingredients. We also tasted their oven roasted potatoes, which were exactly as you would find them in the best Italian trattorias. Unfortunately they had run out of "bomboloni" so we chose to skip dessert. The espresso coffee was perfect, as well. The wine list is varied and covers many Italian regions, but unfortunately, except for Piemonte, does not have any outstanding wines. Not very exciting. The ambiance is warm and friendly, with excellent jazz / blues music in the background at a very acceptable volume. The service is very attentive and very professional, which is such a rare find these days! The only negative note is the wait, both to get the table you reserved, and to receive the drinks and food you ordered. But it's the only area that needs some improvement. Overall, my best expectations were surpassed, and the care that goes into conceiving and preparing the food is outstanding. Whoever oversees the kitchen is doing a fantastic job, as every dish they serve is carefully crafted, and the standards are always upheld. Heads and shoulders above so many famed Italian restaurants on the East Coast. And all at very, very reasonable prices.

This casual but upscale restaurant offers innovative American food served with style. Every dish we ordered had incredible flavors and the wide variety (not number but types) of appetizers and entrees made the dining experience interesting for our table of 4. This place can be for a special event or just a great night out you will surely remember.

Coming to Philadelphia from the UK occasionally, a trip to Osteria is always top of our list for places to eat. It has a really relaxed and buzzing vibe but not uncomfortably noisy like so many restaurants these days. The food is fantastic served in a casual family dining style with multiple small plates of delicious Parma ham and mozzarella, wild boar Raghu with pasta, fantastic breads and succulent braised beef cheeks, small pizzas and fantastic BBQ ribs. Every dish perfect. I wish we lived a bit closer but we definitely be back for another visit.

Please go here! This might have been the best meal I ever had in my life and I'm a huge foodie. I had the duck and rabbit and omg it was spectacular. We also got the octopus as an appetizer and it was amazing.

Took the family to Osteria for what we hoped would be a nice birthday dinner for 6. I’ve eaten at Osteria a few times when Vetri ran the place and was always happy with the meal, the service and the vibe. His Italian dishes were always fresh and you could tell it. After an ownership change and starting the family style dining we were all generally disappointed. We have so many different tastes for foods in our group of 6 it’s tough to enjoy plate sharing. But that’s our fault for not fully checking out the set up. Pasta’s were generally too salty, two pizzas one was perfect the Lombarda, recommend it, the other covered in mushrooms was hard and dry and clearly sat out too long. Other dishes, charred octopus you couldn’t get past the char to taste anything else, rabbit was tough and almost tasteless, cheese and meat tray was very ample and filling. Just not the place we hoped. And you tell we weren’t alone. Half the tables were empty when we arrived at 715. Never saw that when Vetri was involved.

This North Broad Street restaurant is well located to avoid the congestion of Center City. The I-95 exit at Girard makes getting there a breeze on the weekends. Valet parking takes the stress out of that burden. The salumi and cheeses on a board are a nice starter. Pastas were cooked properly and the fish and meats selected by others in the group were well done.

If I had to give Osteria a letter grade, it would be a C+. The cuisine is Italian, and the food was good, but in my opinion there are lots of better (and less expensive, although not as festive) places for Italian food in Philly. The place was jam-packed (and therefore so noisy that we couldn't converse with the people at the other end of the table), and service was consequently slow.

I was in town for business during Restaurant Week so I indulged and am still paying for it in the gym today. Osteria was the first place I went to and it set every other restaurant up for failure because it was absolutely excellent. The five course pre fixe meal for $35 was way under priced! The amount of food they brought I could barely get through and to be honest I wanted more of the duck tortellini. I think of it to this day. Roasted carrots in buratta was delicious. Everything was absolutely delicious. Service was amazing. The tables are a bit close and the light might be too dim which made it a bit awkward to be so romantic while with a male coworker. I ordered a cocktail that sounded delicious but didnt taste as good as it looked. Bartender made me another drink without question. They moved our tab from the bar to the table without issue or complaint. The seating round the bar is nice and cozy as well. Wish this place was in LA!

Nice restaurant with professional service in an area that is gentrifying. The name is Italian, the food is Italian inspired, and the chef is supposed to be Italian, but he wasn’t there the evening we had dinner there. We are being told (too late) that pasta is what’s best in this restaurant. The chicken wasn’t bad, but nothing to say about it.The swordfish was well prepared. The wine choices are nice and prices are rather reasonable. However, expecting guests to read the menu, let alone see what’s in their plate when the whole room is lighted by one tiny candle in each table, is preposterous, unless you want to play guessing games.

The down-home atmosphere fits an area dominated by the bright car-service sign out the front window: the service is very friendly though not too prompt. But the pricing is very high, and the wine list is wildly over-priced for very standard fare. The only resort is to order a bottle of what the house offers for individual glasses.

The worst meal we had in Philly. The only good thing was the bread basket and service. The squid ink pasta had a fishy taste we couldn't eat it. The veal had a piece of fat around it .

love, love, love....the food and staff.. our sever was Erin...spot on and very attentive...great food and atmosphere and service!

We were a group of 5 on a week night. The food was quality but not quite up to the billing or the bill. Recommended with reservations. There are other Italian restaurants at higher quality and lower price

We booked an early reservation for dinner and were pleased to enter a bright busy twinkling dining room. We weren't so pleased to be led around the back the restaurant to the opposite ambiance - a depressing, tomb-like second dining room. Quiet and spare, the windows were almost fully covered, and the lighting was so poorly designed, gray and shadowy, Nothing warm and convivial about it. That said, the food was quite good. The pizzas were well seasoned and inventive. The carbonara was a creative interpretation of the classic and very good. Only the short ribs were slightly disappointing- underseasoned and a bit dry. The service was very attentive and good. All in all a good night - try to sit in the main room if you can !

We went into this meal with high expectations after recommendation by friends and family. Service was a miss from the get-go. Server refused to take our wine order, insisting that even though we knew what wine we wanted, he would have to call over the sommelier. The server wouldn't our order even though we told him we were ready. When he was ready, he tried to get our attention by repeatedly clicking his pen. Long gaps between ordering and arrival of first course, and then 30 minutes before entrees arrived. The back waiters didn't seem to know who had ordered which dishes. One dish was brought out early, immediately taken away (presumably to sit under a heat lamp), brought back by itself and taken away again, before coming back for a third time as a soggy lump of fish meat. One of us ordered a cheese plate, specifying a chevre among the ones he wanted, and saying he didn't want a blue cheese, and he received the latter and not the former. No one said goodbye to us when we left.

Excellent food and great service. Portions are small. Seems to be setup similar to a tapas menu but pricey for that setup

Delicious dinner. Great service! Made a reservation for 4:30 prior to the Sting concert. Perfect time to go if you want to take your time and enjoy your meal before the show. Warm atmosphere. Attentive servers. Our waiter was A+...I think his name was Kai.

We thought we had a reservation but I had mistakenly made it for the wrong day. The only seats available were at the Chef’s counter. The seats were fine but the Chef was standing in the middle of the counter screaming the entire time. Our waiter apologized but it was annoying. We got the pre theater special which included four courses plus dessert but we both had to order the same things. It was very good, especially the grilled octopus and the bronzino. Our server was very helpful and the service was good but we would have enjoyed it more without the Chef screaming for two hours!

This is a very nice restaurant. The food is quite good. It is well presented. Sort of pub homey, but with class. This is definitely worth a visit.

Our business group of four headed to Osteria from our downtown hotel - none of us had eaten there previously, and we found good reviews on-line. The restaurant was pretty good, not great, and I'm not sure I'd go back. The menu is innovative, from appetizers through pastas, entrees, and desserts. But there was something lacking. Our oysters came out ceviche-style, not what we expected. The octopus appetizer was somewhat mealy and had a peculiar taste. The grilled shrimp were spiced and served head-on, but when we removed the heads, the shrimp were actually quite small. Our dinners were good - chicken and pasta dinners, nicely prepared and properly spiced, served hot. I ordered the artichoke appetizer, having enjoyed similar artichokes at other higher-end restaurants, and it came out swimming in oil, in halves with leaves still attached, and no real way to pull and eat the meat - it was a messy attempt at serving artichokes. The ambiance was pretty good, as well. We would have preferred to dine in the main dining room but were instead seated in the greenhouse-style section, which was noisier and more humid than the main restaurant. In hindsight, we should have said something as we were seated. Our service was very good - our server was attentive and made menu selection recommendations. Yes, it felt as though the restaurant were trying, but just couldn't get its collective act together in food quality tonight. This may be a bucket list restaurant - one, check, and done...

Mother's Day Brunch just was not a success. 30 minutes of sitting in hunger after appetizers. That's nuts at a Vetri place. Even nuttier: we get a "sorry we're taking so long" contorno from the kitchen, that, although nicely served to my wife, elicited an "I just ate that as an appetizer" for a response. And every single thing served to the table went to the wrong person, necessitating much swapping around of plates. Sigh. The saddest crime was that the pizzas were just not good. To us, this is the gravest of harbingers... We firmly believe in Pizzeria Vetri (ate there with my son 7 days in a row last year), and since that dough migrated over to Callowhill from Osteria, we are worried...Canary-pizza in the the coal mine? I hope not.

This was one of the best business dinners I’ve attended. We were in The Kitchen. The atmosphere was great and it was quiet enough that all 14 of us could converse. I am somewhat of an adventurous eater. The food was interesting but not weird. Service was perfect. If I were back in Philadelphia on my own I would go back again.

Excellent food great service!!! We tried the vegetarian pizza and it was one of the best we have ever eaten!! All vegetarian options were great!!

Went to this restaurant based on reviews and Hotel recommendations . Business dinner for 4 and all disappointed with the portions and lack of menu items . The best guess is the Pizza is probable great and everything else super expensive and you will leave hungry ! Appetizer 12 to 18 dollars and they give you nothing , dinners 24 to 95 and even less ! Never again , much better places to eat in this City ! When you spend to dollar at least fill the plate . Small portions with huge prices won't last long and we will never return !

I attended a business dinner at Osteria and found the meal and service wonderful. We had several course family style. The room was well set up and the servers knew when to bring the next course. We never felt rushed or wanting. Thank you

We sat at the two - person bar to watch the chefs cook and have a fun meal together. Everything from the way we were greeted and looked after by the maitre d', the servers and the chefs was delightful. I am so full I need to lie down and I appreciated every bite. I may not eat that way for another year and it does not matter because this meal was so good and so lovingly made and served there is nothing I would change. It was fairly priced (indeed extremely fairly priced) too.

Went with a group of eight. The service was unhurried and professional. Plenty of choices on the menu. Several of us had whole trout with potatoes and capers. Yummm Good night out.

In town for one night and found this spot on a google search. Beautiful restaurant, rustic, warm and comfortable. We were seated quickly for our reservation, offered sparkling or still water. Bread basket was diverse and warm, nice way to start. The menu was extensive with some unusual items, definitely needed assistance from the waiter which was prompt. Between the four of us there were salads, rabbit, boar and trout. All were perfection. Wine list was solid and assistance with that menu was much appreciated. Desert was nearly too much, the chocolate tart was just about too much. Overall a very good meal. A few words of caution, this is not an American Italian dining experience, this is much more authentic with vegetables and wild meats. There are pizzas and pasta on the menu but perhaps not the best place for kids or anyone who doesn't have an adventurous pallet. However, I very much enjoyed, would recommend and will return.

Food was very good and there is an atrium/patio area that is lovely. But, the restaurant is noisy and far too dark. Food cannot be enjoyed if you cannot see it although what I tasted was lovely. Pasta cooked to perfection

This restaurant is celebrating its 10th anniversary by hosting 10 guest chefs. We attended one of those dinners last night. We were sorely disappointed by the entire experience. First, the tables were so close together that every time someone passed by, we had to stand up to make room for them. Second, the room was beautiful but the acoustics were terrible. It was very hard to conduct a conversation. Third, the dinner was accompanied by a wine pairing. None of the wines in the pairing were very good. We ended up ordering our own wine. Finally, there was the food. We were served a multi course dinner that included several dishes. There were pasta, pizza, salad, meat and dessert courses. Given the range of options we were served one would think there would have been some standout dishes. There weren't. It was all very average. Overall this was a disappointment.

Service was helpful, knowledgable, and timely. The menu had a diverse Italian layout from pizzas to antipastis to pasta dishes then meat/seafood entrees. The pizza to share was a good starter for four. We had the grilled octopus which was marinaded well with a good char, light acidity from the melon, and bitterness from the arugula. We shared the wild boar Bolognese and enjoyed that as well. Huge Italian wine menu broken out by region. Unique cocktail selection. Diverse beer list. Everything was solid.

We booked a table on the reputation of Vetri's pasta and it turned out to be a lesson in how the experience can make or break a meal. From a petty table wobble to a buss staff that routinely interrupted conversation to ask us to move so they could take our plates, the cadence of the meal was choppy. Unfortunately, the octopus appetizer and the tiny cookie that came with our espresso were the shining moments of the meal. The pasta dishes were surprisingly heavy (relying on butter just a bit too much) and pasta, although beautifully thin and delicately assembled, was over-cooked. The fish dishes that followed were under seasoned and dry. A word of caution for couples considering this for a date - the wine selection starts at a few bottles over $60 and by the glass is limited. For a filling, but disappointing, meal for two, we came in over $300.

We went with high expectations based on a friend's glowing recommendations. It was a busy Friday night, but our food was just ok, not as wonderful as we were hoping for. Particularly, all our choices were very salty.

Ordered rib eye special for $130. It was gristley and inedible. Manager handled the situation terribly! Came to table, said he would be back and never showed up. We were charged $130 for an inedible dish. Will never go back and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You don’t treat customers like that!

We have been to Osteria numerous times over the years and have always considered it one of our favorite Philadelphia restaurants. But last night was a real disappointment. Though our waitress was certainly lovely and attentive, the food came out in a bizarre and haphazard manner. Pastas came before antipastis (without asking us whether that was how we wanted them) and no one's meals came even close to the same time. Two pastas were put down as three others sat without any food for another 10 minutes. This happened repeatedly throughout the meal, without acknowledgement of a problem by the waitstaff. Again, everyone was very nice; they even gave us a plate of mussels on the house. But the food just wasn't nearly as good as it had been before, and it was surprising that there was no acknowledgement of the oddness of the way we were being served. The pizzas had always been exceptional in the past, but were overcooked this time, as was the lasagna, which tasted burned. We don't know if the restaurant has a new chef or it was just not a great night. We hope the latter.

Top-notch service from the entire staff, and excellent small plate options for any palate. The waiter was excellent in helping navigate the menu options, and in working with us to get out in time to make our show at the new Metropolitan Opera House (three blocks north).

We had limited time and had an appetizer and pasta. We were well taken care of by a professional cheerful waiter who well accommodated our needs. Food was outstanding—octopus and ravioli, with a nice wine.

One of the best pizzas in Philadelphia. The rest of the menu is equally great. Everything we tried was adsolutely delicious and done right.

Chose this restaurant to celebrate Valentine's Day weekend, and the food did not disappoint. We shared the burrito with squash and raddicio as a starter. My spouse ordered one of the lamb specials - a ragu with fresh pasta sheets and I had tagliatelle with mushrooms. Both delicious. Our dessert was the highlight - molten chocolate cake with pistachio gelato! Perfect ending to a great meal. Service was very slow due to kitchen being backed up but chef sent sweet pumpkin stuffed pasta pillows to our table for the inconvenience. All in all a pleasant experience.

I felt like I had been transported back to Italy. Everything was so flavorful. The eggplant polpette were amazing. The rabbit bolognese tasted like a similar dish I had in Florence. This may be my new favorite Italian restaurant in Philly.

This repeat review is the result of a change in ownership and management of what had been one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in America. Firstly we were ushered into the patio that was so dark flashlights were required to not only read the menus, but also to see the food. The tempo of service made no sense. We shared the vegetable platter as antipasto, a holdover from the previous version. The pastas arrived shortly after the arrival of the antipasto and all were cold as well. The chestnut pappardelle were over cooked and the duck sauce watery. There then was a very long wait before the secondi were served. The Florentine steak for 2 was fine but came without the onions and mushrooms listed on the menu. The grilled whole branzino was fine but had no accompaniments. Dessert which also came with quite a delay was the highlight. At the end if the day the new Osteria is a sad version of the original.

When we pulled up to the valet, we were greeted by a very friendly, nice man. That was the highlight of the evening. The hostess was very nice also. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Waiter was nice enough but not overly friendly. The bread basket was filled with a variety of breads, plenty to eat and fresh bread & bread sticks. My daughter & I split arugula with grilled vegetables, not bad but not great. My daughter has one of the specials, bow tie pasta with crab & asparagus. Looked good but portion was on the small side. I had the rabbit, again, not bad but not great. We had dessert. I had gelato. They give you 3 scoops, so I got 3 different favors. I will say the raspberry was the best. My daughter had Polanta Budino. It was interesting, some people might really like it, we liked it but didn't love it. The menu had a nice variety. It is on the pricey side for what we got. I wouldn't, by any means, say this is a bad restaurant, it is good & the staff is well trained. Might be worth a try.

This was my third visit to Osteria and I am convinced that it is best Italian restaurant in Philadelphia! The food is incredibly prepared with top quality ingredients and authentic to the best of Italian traditions. We began our meal with the burrata panzanella - amazing! My wife had the roasted vegetables that were stunning. We shared a plate of the Francobolli pasta, delicate ravioli stuffed with robiola cheese and topped with trumpet mushrooms.....they tasted like the wings of angels - so delicate and delicious. For entrees we had the wood fired chicken and the pork chop. WOW! Both were delicious and perfectly prepared. We were on our way to the orchestra after dinner and were totally satisfied with our meal, the service, the quality of food at osteria. If you have not been to Osteria, GO! It is incredible.

Like the poster below, we went for the tasting menu with a party of 3. While everything was delicious, there just wasn't enough food. Not even close, and we even added an extra side of roasted potatoes. I really think they gave us a serving for two. This was evidenced by the rabbit course. We were given 2 legs (rabbit legs are small) to share among 3 people. Imagine 3 people trying to share two little legs, and bear in mind that this wasn't an appetizer course. And for our main course of Bronzino we each got 2-3 forkfuls. We thought after we left that we should have said something, but judging by the reviewer below, this seems to be the norm Even with the lower price for restaurant week it was a poor value. Thankfully we only paid $35 pp rather the normal price of $58. Too many other places to go in the City to return and risk having another disappoint experience.

Amazing food, service and experience. Every dish is simple yet complex flavors and a bit unexpected. Delicious and unpretentious yet it feels like a splurge.

Had family style dining for 7. Cheese and salumi platters were nice. Adored the pasta dishes-calamari and the mushroom ravioli. Had branzino and grilled octopus-awesome. The dessert was a chocolate polenta chef's choice which is as terrific. Finished with house limoncello. Wow. Great meal with perfect proportions.

My wife and I went there a year ago for restaurant week and it was amazing. Great food, great bread and decent portions. It was so good we took my neice from college there as a treat. The restaurant week menu is set up for two, family style with two starters, two pastas and two dinners. When I asked about three the waitress said it works the same with larger portions. We ordered the cheese and meat board as starters and it was apparent that the portions were sized for two. I told the waitress she said she would tell the kitchen. When the pastas came same deal combined with no serving utensils. I could see other tables of two getting the same portions. Apparently the kitchen is not capable of making a larger portion. The waitress brought our missing pasta a good bit later. Nothing changed for the dinners. This time I spoke to a manager who had a blank stare and asked what I wanted him to do. Duh, fix it. They promised an extra dinner that never came out but they did bring out another starter that must have been laying around. It was a complete embarrassment in front of my neice. We did get an upgraded desert but they fell way short. No apology. Basically I paid for three and received food for two. They need to hire managers that can manage a restaurant. I left a somewhat poor tip (15%) and would have left nothing had it not been for the busboys that were so attentive.

We had a private room for a large group so I can't comment on the service in the main restaurant. Our service was great. The food was also very good- from pizzas to pasta, steaks and chicken. Everyone in our party raved about the food. Give it a try.

We had reservations for 5:45 on a Tuesday night and arrived on time. The restaurant was half full and we were seated immediately. Drink orders were taken and my martini finally arrived about 15 minutes later. Another 15 minutes till server returned to take orders. We ordered the variety selection for 2, with 5 shareable small plates, and 1 entree to share. By this time it was 6:15 and the restaurant was packed. First 2 small plates arrived about 30 minutes after ordering. Many other tables that arrived well after us received their food before we did. I won't bore you with further sad details, but after a stay of 2 hours, and several requests to be served our orders, we left without receiving 2 of the small plates, and totally discouraged. The food we did receive was mostly bland, with the exception of the roasted vegetables served with the 32oz ribeye steak, which were delicious. The steak itself was below average. From observing other diners, it appears that the pizza is the thing to order at Osteria.

Definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Philadelphia is Chef Marc Vetri's Osteria. The food is simply wonderful! Our latest meal there started with a sharing of the spit-roasted porchetta, tonnato, arugula, celery and parmigiano. It's not something we would usually order, but we wanted to try something on the menu that we hadn't tried before. Am I glad that we did—it was outstanding and without a doubt something that we'd order again. Our entrées were the robiola "francobolli" postage stamp ravioli with royal trumpet mushrooms and thyme. It's truly heaven on a plate. It's so good that we rarely order anything else when we dine here. My wife doesn't particularly like mushrooms, but she LOVES this dish. Dessert was coconut torta with dulcet mousse and dark chocolate glaze. It was rich and decadent. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was conducive to fine dining. If you've never eaten at Osteria, you need to go there.

Most restaurants are not at the best on holidays. But, the dinner that we enjoyed at Osteria on Christmas Eve was near perfect. We selected three very different dishes ranging from a pizza to the whole roasted branzino and each one was expertly prepared and memorable as I am writing this review over a month later. We will definitely return whenever we are in town.

We lived in the neighborhood, so we went there pretty frequently. The food was excellent every time we went there. Chicken liver pasta is a must-order item on the menu. We missed the truffle pasta the most, however, you can only get that couple weeks a year.

Lots of interesting great dishes by James Beard Award Chef. Wife enjoyed Rabbit and I loved waiter recommended Pork Chop. Charred Octopus appetizer was interesting if not fabulous flavor. Grilled Zucchini was memorable. Nice wine list. Excellent waiter and service.

Entertained 5 customers on a December Friday. The menu is the best in the city. Been to Osteria 6x. Don't be scared of neighborhood, Not the same North Phila our parents always warned us about.

It may just be me, but prices at restaurants tend to increase or decrease my expectations. We visited Osteria with another couple and the service and restaurant itself would have rated five stars. The food itself did not meet our expectations. The best dishes were the salumi board and broccolini Caesar which were excellent and the remainder of the meal was just okay. We ordered a number of dishes to share and overall the food rates a four at best. The octopus which I order often when dining at different restaurants was okay, the shallots and sauce served with it were not. The lamb arancini was on the bland side. There were other items that we ordered that did not stand out. Nothing would make me want to make a return visit. Osteria needs to do better.

Osteria exceeds expectations in all categories- food, service, and decor. The setting is modern casual, the service is knowledgeable and very, very good. But the star is the food- each and every dish, every course that my wife and I ate, was outstanding. The food here is the best that I have eaten anywhere, at least in recent memory. The sauces are excellent and the combination of seasonings give the dishes great flavour, with a hint of something just a little different from the usual. The squash blossom antipasta was very pretty and tasty. The special primi of the day, silver-dollar pasta, was buttery delicious, with sprigs of a green seasoning that gave it a little extra. The lamb leg marinated in yogurt was cooked to perfection, moist and juicy and delish, not to mention the exquisite, crunchy carrots on the side. The Albacore tuna was also cooked to perfection, with great, tasty green beans and perfectly spiced sausage as accompaniments. The peach and blueberry crostata was a supeb pastry, again with great taste and a touch of something just a little special- it came with the creamiest gelato I have every samples, with a delicious buttery peach flavour. The melon mascarpone danish was good, and came with an interesting, wonderfully-tasting poppy seed gelato. This is a must for a special occasion, as it was for our wedding anniversary.

The chief and I have been here several times before when our son was going to Temple and it is always good. The menu is varied with a nice variety of pizzas, apps, and entrees although the menu is not very large. The bar area is crowded and smallish, but if you can snag one of the couches or seats you will be fine. Limited wine list. I had the margherita pizza and a salad and both were great! Always a good stop!

I went here with my wife and co-workers for a holiday meal. The ambience is nice, welcoming and a little loud. We were put in a quieter place outside the main room. The wait staff was excellent. We got several plates and shared them. The grilled vegetables appetizer was impressive in its size, presentation and taste. Most of the dishes were tasty and well done, a few were sub-par. It was kind of hit and miss. Overall, we had a nice experience, but for the price I expected every dish to be top notch and it just wasn't that way. There are other simpler, more authentic Italian restaurants that I would recommend over this one.

It was super crowded and we basically ate dinner with the people at the 2 tables next to us. Half the food was amazing like the octopus and the articokes and the other half was just ok. It is one of the only places close to the MET if you are going to a show.

We went to Osteria for lunch with a Smithsonian tour. Normally, I am a soup and half a sandwich person at that hour, but I was thrilled with our lunch of sauteed fish and vegetables. The sea bass was simply prepared -- perfection! I'd love to return.

I really can't see why people are complaining about the food. We travel and eat out a lot and I have to say it was one of the best meals we ever had. That steak was to die for. The chicken liver pasta dish & antipasto plate were amazing and the deserts were off the charts. What is my complaint? Come on people...am I the only one to mention this? It was my Birthday and I asked for in the reservation: no side-by side seating. You know where you are an arms length to the next table? A $300.00 meal and I have to hear every word the couple next to me said. They have to listen to us. They confirmed our reservation and never told me they could not accommodate this request. This I realize in restaurants they must arrange the seating to accommodate as many diners as possible, but please put aside a few tables for nuts like me. Otherwise...amazing!

We came to this restaurant on the recommendation of a local we sat next to at a previous bar. Upon arrival the hostess acted annoyed we would even try to show up without a reservation. There were plenty of seats at the bar where we actually wanted to sit and throughout the night I watched tables open up and not fill back up. The bartender was great, she recommended tasty drinks and food which did not disappoint. We split the ravioli and a pizza and both were delicious. The ravioli melted in your mouth and was a real treat - kudos to the chef!

We dined at Osteria during a holiday trip to Philly and can't wait to go back. We each got the tasting menu and were blown away. The food, service and atmosphere was great. We can't wait to go back. We loved it!

Happy Hour ... good way to test the kitchen, yes? Well, the white wine was very good and inexpensive. Other than that...the charred octopus was good, the broccolini Caesar was OK, the beef tartare was too salty (and we SHOULD have sent it back), the cacio e pepe was sooooo salty we DID send it back. And why would they put salt in cacio e pepe anyway? Then, the bill came...$17 each for - really - HALF-martinis.

Very good Italian food in the city. Parking can be difficult. Everything was fresh and tasty. Would go back if it was closer.

First visit to the restaurant prior to a concert at the Met. Easy walk up the street to the venue. We had a variety of pizza, pasta and apps, and everything was delicious. Would definitely return.

the Italian osteria entry in the Marc Vetri empire does not disappoint with fresh ingreidients treat with great care and in

I was looking for a place to go to dinner with some business colleagues, and a friend who lives in Philadelphia recommended Osteria. What a great recommendation!! We had a nice, quiet table in the solarium, with attentive (but not cloying) service. And the food was great. 24 hours later we were still talking about the ambiance and the food. Service was top-notch. I'd describe this restaurant as upscale casual. Of course, we could have just eaten the bread (baked in house) and been happy! However, the main courses were as rewarding as the bread.

Hands down, this is the best Happy Hour in the city. My husband and I got to enjoy the last of warm November in the beautiful heated outdoor pergola. Grilled octopus, steak tartare, eggplant polpette, rigatoni with chicken livers and margherita pizza. All delicious! Did I say this was Happy Hour?? They offer specialty cocktails and a few decent wines for this special menu. We have never been disappointed here. Whether it's dinner, group events or New Year's Eve. But on a Monday night in Philly spending under $70 for a phenomenal meal is priceless. I have to add that the service was more fitting an expensive tasting menu and not a Happy Hour. Questions about our familiarity with the menu, courteous suggestions, changed out plates and silver. All above and beyond. Osteria continues to evolve and hold it's own in the vibrant Philly food scene.

My husband and I went to visit my son at Temple. Someone had suggested Osteria to my son so we decided to try it. We are so glad we did! It is a beautiful restaurant and when you walk in, you smell a real pig roasting in the back. The service is fantastic. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and knowledgeable. Some things on the menu we had to ask about. My husband got the duck, my son got the pig, and I got the short ribs. All were amazing! We will definitely be back!

We had a very mixed evening for our party of 6. A disinterested and not attentive waitress. One odd main course - the cannelloni dish does not seem to know if it should be hearty meaty or light and fresh veggie. One very ordinary (not for me but another liked) grilled orata (fish.) But one most excellent grilled veggie appetizer - family style to share. And that not even on the menu! (apparently on the lunch menu, but not dinner. Definitely order it, for either.) OH, and your lady-friends will be happy with the hipster male wait staff with beards.

We reserved the Chef's Tasting Menu based on reputation. Our high hopes were reinforced when we witnessed a frustrated customer who hoped to have the Chef's Menu that same night. If people were specifically asking for it, we were probably on the right track. We were led into the extra kitchen for the private event. This was a bit weird to be seated in the kitchen but there was the feeling this was secluded. The giant chopping block for a table/ surface was a nice touch. With the noise of the restaurant blocked by the seclusion and heavy curtain, we were left to enjoy the evening of chef's courses. One note: to access this room, the entire party must spend a minimum of $350 on alcohol. That sounded high, but it was easily accessed through the course of the night based on our party size. The exciting part about a chef's menu - I hope - is the creativity granted to the chef to cook what s/he wants to that night, putting passion into dishes. It is also a chance to show off the skills reinforcing the reputation. We were met with that reputation by having extremely delicious dishes such as the vegetable plate featuring one of my favorites: celeriac. There were also rainbow carrots and a few other seasonal vegetables that were outstanding in their flavor. Entree dishes that were memorable included the pizza with spicy pepperoni. According to our server this is a preferred meal by the wait staff, and it was clear why. The spiciness kept us coming back for more. Yes this is a high-end restaurant, and yes this is pizza, but the pizza had us wanting these available. Speaking of the server, we were fortunate enough to have a great personality with Kai. He was on top of everything. He went above and beyond what was expected. Our party welcomed his suggestions and conversation. He made the experience even better. I would go back and specifically request him for dining services. The desserts were great closers. The egg nog ice cream was hogged by yours truly. The coffee was the best way to end the night. We bagged up the leftovers and eagerly awaited the arrival home, after digesting, to resume consuming the items we missed. Definitely consider the Chef's Tasting for a business outing or a large party gathering. The table/ chopping block was the perfect size to converse while having food on the table. With a little help we made the minimum price tag for the room. We will definitely return for a personal table in the future.

Ate with a group of seven here for dinner. The best aspect of the experience was the service, which was top-notch. The food was good, but the pizza was not quite like pizza I've had during several trips to Italy, which was a little disappointing. I don't know if they didn't use San Marzano tomatoes or maybe it had to do with the type of oven, but something was a little off. It is a lively, energetic place. Our table was in a corner and felt crowded, but once we got settled in the tight space, we enjoyed ourselves. The bread was outstanding!!

We were here with a group of 16 and we were seated in the "kitchen" around a large table. It worked out great for a family style meal. Service was friendly and personable. We tried a variety of foods, some of our favorites were... flat bread pizza with squash, the postage stamp tortellini, the halibut with brussel sprouts, and finally the chocolate flam with pistachio ice cream. The chef has done a wonderful job with the flavor combinations. Great place, highly recommended.

Dinner was wonderful. We ordered the tasting menu for the table since our children are adults . Food was delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed the dinner. Service was very good.

Service is based on a tapas-like approach of sharing everything so servers basically threw every dish in the middle of our table of 8. But 1/2 of our party wanted to eat their own dinner and the servers were totally incapable of providing that level of service. It was total chaos and they would yell out, “who has the ravioli” but no one answered because 1) the noise level is LOUD and 2) there is no “ravioli” on the menu! So away went the server with the food. That poor diner had to flag down our waiter and somehow retrieve the food. The pasta dishes were extremely disappointing, lukewarm and heavy. The only thing worth eating was the pizza which was actually very good. So, my advice, if you end up at Osteria, eat pizza.

The food was wonderful, best I've had in a long time. The service was even better if that is possible! Our server, Kelert, and the manager Bill made our visit memorable.

Great place for a business meeting. Servers are very accommodating and professional. Food quality is great as well. I know they are an upscale restaurant however can simplify the menu descriptions. Our guests had to Google some of the ingredients listed in the menu. Overall a good choice.

Our table was not ready until about 15minutes after we arrived-not a problem. We sat down- the food came out really quickly though. We got our cheese plate and 2 minutes later our ribeye tartare came. I didn't like that we got our bill 1.5 hrs after we got there. Because the dishes came out too fast, we ate fast. It was almost rushed. Very friendly service! The two pasta dishes were so delicious- I highly recommend the wild boar bolognese and the capellacci dish with brown butter. Did not care for the ribeye tartare. We asked for spoons twice- should have came with the dishes. I also said it was my bday in the reservation but no one said or did anything. We got a whole branzino fish and budino. It was so much food- really amazing. We just got back from Italy....these pastas here are better than 80% of the pasta we ate there! I would come back! Very different atmosphere depending upon where you sit. Romantic atmosphere. If there is a place where millenials dine, this is it. (29 yr olds all over-incl. me.)

Except for the antipasto (octopus), bread baked on the premises nd a creamy banana gelato, the other dishes were somewhat disappointed. The fettuicini carbonara were not cooked enough (I don't mean al dente), but the sauce was rich and tasty. The pizza margherita was burned and the sauce could have been from a supermarket jar. We had to remind the waiter to bring parmesana cheese for the pasta. The ambience is of a upscale trattoria and it has a pleasent aroma to woodoven. The quality of the food should match the price of the dishes.

We went with good friends and had the shared meal for four. On their website they call it "Banquet" but it had a different Italian name on the menu. The atmosphere is a little dim for our taste...what is it about restaurants that associate dim lighting with style? There's dim and then there's dim -- this was the kind you wanted to grab the candle on the table to see the menu. Besides that shortcoming, the food was excellent. The wild boar was good, but we have had better; the best was the vegetable antipasto. It was piled high and a chaos of marinated vegetables, but that somehow added to the excellent plate. The waiter was a bit affected -- and the less we saw of him the better the meal. If you go there, share. Not the best Italian in Philly, but darned good. (In fact, we have had better Italian in Florida!)

Never having been to Philadelphia, I researched restaurants. Osteria Philadelphia seemed good with location, atmosphere, and food offerings. It exceeded my expectations! The service was phenomenal, and the menu offered the unexpected. The shaved Brussel sprout salad was light and tasty. The lobster pasta was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant.

A good spot for larger groups (6+), our family had a lovely celebratory meal at Osteria this past weekend. We shared 4 starters, a double order of grilled octopus, a yummy beef tartare with gnocchi fritto (a great light meal all on its own for a carnivore) and an array of roasted fresh local vegetables coupled with an excellent bread basket. For a mid course we shared a savory bright pomodoro pizza and two small orders of pasta - all perfect for a mid course taste. Entrees were excellent all around with high praise for the red snapper with corn. My duck breast was very tasty but served tepid and it was a bit overdone. Since the flavor was good I declined the management's offer to re-do the dish; but I was pleased they understood my decision and actually removed the cost of the dish from our bill - very considerate & much appreciated. There did seem to be some sort of kitchen delay/service issues (i.e. no plates for the two diners sharing a rib eye) but it was not an issue for our group as we were not on a tight schedule. Our server was enthusiastic and helpful in making recommendations regarding cocktails, portion sizes and food information. We sat in the enclosed greenhouse patio which is charming but be forewarned the sound does bounce around quite a bit so decibel levels can rise. Go early or late if you're seeking an intimate tete a tete. Desserts portions were good and I would suggest just sharing a few. The sorbets were very fruity and refreshing. With light alcohol consumption, 4 cocktails, 3 beers and a glass of wine our bill came to $90 per person but we did have 4 courses. You could easily eat here for less and still have a wonderful meal.

Being Italian, raised in Philadelphia and I travel to Italy frequently....that being said, I found Osteria to be the Best Italian Food in Philadelphia. The endive salad we had last night was perfectly made, the olive oil used was spectacular and the dressing perfectly done. The salad was crispy, flavorful and delightful! We shared the candele pasta wild boar bolognese, cocoa and grana. WOW! The flavor of the boar ragu was exceptional and the pasta was perfectly al dente. This dish reminded me to the flavor we get in Tuscany or northern Italy. Outstanding! We finished with a shared the Margherita pizza with tomato, basil and mozzarella. The basil was added after it had been brick oven baked and crust was crispy and thin - like the best pizzas in Italy are always done. We also shared the pear crostata for desert....once again a home run of flavor! I had a generous glass of red wine (Montepulciano, Villa Medora, 2016 Abruzzo) - delightful pairing with the meal. I would encourage anyone in Philadelphia to skip the Center City Italian places and go a few blocks north on Broad Street to what I believe is the Best Italian Food Restaurant in Philadelphia.

Our first time here and we loved it! We tried both primo mushroom dishes (garganelli and ribiola) and they were fantastic. The wood grilled octopus was very good too. The food came in courses and we shared each dish. The wait staff was friendly and available at a moments notice. I am from the west coast and normally do not like Atlantic salmon but the salmon dish was also very good. Rachel dish had unique flavors. In my opinion, the best dessert is their apple tarte. We will definitely be back to dine again.

Great service and happy hour! Will def come back! Prosciutto good cheese and mussels and the view on the church! Loved it!

We travel to Philadelphia every December for the holidays. We went to Osteria for the 2nd year and it was superb. It is now in my top 5 for best restaurants. Anywhere. Our server, Abe, was great. Professional, friendly, warm and knowledgeable. Excellent service from him and the rest of the staff. We ordered the convivio menu and loved it. The standouts were the rigatoni with chicken liver, the pappardelle with bison bolognese (to die for!), the quail and the lemon meringue desert. Excellent meal. We will go every time we are in Philadelphia. It's a no brainer for us.

My wife and I went here during Restaurant Week in Center City and we were amazed. We ordered the tasting menu which included 2 antipasti. 2 primi, 1 piccoli, 1 secondo and 1 dolce.....each course was delicious. The selection is quite varied and with a little thought you can explore a panorama of flavors. Since it was Restaurant Week, the price was great....only $35 per person; however, normally the tasking menu is $59 per person. Worth it at either price. A very large selection of Italian wines from every region of Italy.

We visit this restaurant a lot. The food is always so fresh, interesting, and so delicious. The service is top notch. This restaurant is always very lively-a great atmosphere! The menu is very good for sharing. The pizza dishes are great. Leave room for dessert and you won't be disappointed.

Excellent food and service, with a good selection of Italian wines. Noise level was just fine although the room was not full. Wanted to visit the next day as a group, but restaurant fas fully booked, attesting of its popularity.

Osteria provided one of our best meals in quite some time. Equal or better than some of our meals in Italy two months ago. We took our daughter and her boyfriend to happy hour to accommodate some other appointments and shared about seven plates. Each plate had at least an extra twist or two that elevated it from good to excellent. Service was excellent; not too much attention but just right. Prices very reasonable and ambiance made for a very enjoyable meal. Osteria on our list for future meals.

Recommended by a colleague- we headed just outside City Center to find this wonderful restaurant. Highly recommend any of the pizzas as an appetizer and the pasta is enough to share or to make as an entree. Perfect for large groups with excellent service and attention. We will be back!!

back in 2014 I worked in osteria as an externship from the CIA. it had to be one of the most demanding but unforgettable experiences in my life aside from the marine corps. I learned an immense amount and was excited to come eat there. I had been talking this place up for years and when i went for my anniversary i couldnt have been more disappointed. busy Saturday and had no sommelier on staff even though menu stated so. other then the carrot app with marinated burrata everything fell short. ribeye tartar was mediocre at best. the chicken liver rigatoni lacked flavor, the octopus was attrotiously overcooked with unseasoned almost raw potatoes to go with it. the pork chop was alright but for the price I should have just cooked at home with the knowledge I learned before osteria sold out twice. very sad to see a once great restaraunt fall flat on its face. the servers were incredibley knowledgable and honestly the only reason it got 2 stars in my opinion.

Went hear with my wife and was skeptical because of all of the hype. we weren't disappointed. Fun friendly casual atmosphere. Service was stellar and not pretentious.Dinner moved at a perfect pace. They were packed but did not make us feel like they needed our table. Every course we had was phenomenal. Don't miss the dessert menu. I don't usually get dessert but we were glad we did. Enjoyed every minute of this dining experience.

Our family gathered to celebrate a special graduation and reserved the private room called the "Kitchen Table". The room is so perfect for a cozy and quieter home-like feel and the shape of the beautiful butcher block table for 14 was the perfect size for us. We could hear everyone's stories and all felt connected. Throughout the evening and afterwards, each of our family members expressed how much they loved the delicious and very copious food, as well as the cozy Kitchen Table setting! The large family style serving bowls for each course were well placed for everyone to reach and have plenty. Each dish was spectacular (I'm craving some right now as I remember). Matt gave us great attention and excellent service that evening. Events managers Tricia and Fiona did a super job of communicating with me as we planned this two months ahead. They kept everything organized throughout the process, and were patient with my questions since we live in North Carolina and were going by faith that this would be a good experience. When asked, they recommended Robertson's florist and they delivered two lovely arrangements. Osteria provided votives and the whole room glowed with warmth. Osteria truly is a magnificent restaurant and the "Kitchen Table" was just perfect for us to celebrate our son's graduation. We'll be back!

I will say that I feel a tad bit bad about the following review because my wife and I end up here about twice a year for special occasions or when we are really craving fantastic pasta, and through the ten+ excellent visits I’ve rarely bothered to write of our fantastic experiences. That said, our most recent visit has me thankful the restaurant will be closing for a few weeks to reset this summer, as it was far from what we’ve come to expect. The ambience was still amazing, same great smells coming out of the kitchen; same incredibly vibrant dining scene; same excellent food (except for dessert which we’ll get to shortly.) However, the service was just flat awful. The host literally got lost on the way to our table, stopping and exclaiming, “I forgot where I was going,” and leaving us standing amongst tables of diners in a restaurant no-man’s land for several moments. No big deal, we’ve all had those brain-fart moments, but then, it took over ten minutes for our waiter to come to the table. Our waiter then proceeded to simultaneously be either absent or overly intrusive for the entire rest of the meal. While the bus staff and table runners were ever present without being in our way, the server herself was always either hovering when we didn’t need her, or nowhere to be seen when we did. Drink orders would go unfilled for 10-15 minutes, our dishes were not explained or even commented on, but when it was time to clear and replace a dish set between courses, it was a 12 visit production with silverware being slide up, over ,and underneath us all at once. I actually almost offered to step away from the table so they could do their thing. Luckily the food itself was still fantastic, though we waited over 20 minutes for desserts that ended up somehow being both burnt and cold, which was admittedly a fitting end to our visit. It's hard to explain tangibly what was wrong, but whether when Vetri owned it, or even Urban Outfitters, the service was always impeccable. Highly trained, helpful without being in your way. This was just the opposite, and it wasn’t even very busy! We’ll be waiting until the refresh to stop by again.

We went here to celebrate a 6 month anniversary and it was PERFECT. The food was amazing and I cannot recommend the Candele pasta dish enough. I already need to have it again. Perfectly cooked. Great portion size. I know they do the serving the way that its very free when dishes come out, but my boyfriend was 3/4ths done with his pizza when I got my food which I wish was timed out a bit closer together. And then our potatoes side came way after and we barely ate them. The atmosphere is great. The drinks were great. The food was great. Just wish things were served a little closer together. Would still come back though.

Everything about Osteria is inviting from the wonderful receptionist to an exceptionally talentless and informed professional wait staff. What set this wait staff apart from others is they are clearly invested in the success or failure of this establishment. Each could fully describe each menu item in detail, very well done. The wonderful grilled antipasti shared with my friend was perfectly prepared. The button filled ravioli simply amazing. The sorbets (pistachio, rhubarb, honey & thyme, etc) a perfect way to end the meal. I shouldn't dwell on service,, but this staff is the best trained I've experienced in years. Hats off. Thank you for the perfect evening...so impressed.

Osteria is a popular high-end Italian restaurant in Philadelphia. It's chef is "Northern" Italian, but seasonal menu selections are a more "Modern" Italian. The interior & seating is rustic comfortable, with the interior being VERY dark and despite very high "warehouse" ceilings very loud/noisy. Our party of 6 tried lots of food items. The very best foods were: Swordfish Spieldini -- grilled Fish kebabs with an herbed tomato stew Grilled Duck Breast with fresh figs BOTH of these entrees were excellent. Margherita pizza, Panzanelle salad, and squid pasta, & simple arugula salad were all good (but not great). Vegetable antipasto, Peach meringata dessert were "fair" (& I would not order again) The menu seems to change seasonally. Overall, I'd rate Osteria as "good"

I wandered to Osteria after being having it recommended by several people. All I can say is WOW when can I go back?! The prices are very reasonable and the place is intimate, warm and inviting. I sat at the bar and the service was great. Lots of great recommendations provided. I started with the charred octopus as an appetizer which was cooked perfectly- not too chewy. Then, decided to pig out and try a pizza and half pasta (and have lots of leftovers!). The Pannochia pizza was light and perfect for summer. The corn really gave it a light flavor. For pasta, I got a half order of the Mafaldine. The rabbit in it was cooked to perfection and not at all gamey. Paired with a Lazzi (grapefruit aperol sparkling cocktail) the meal was perfection! Next time, I’m leaving room for desert!

The superbly attentive staff is trumped only by the amazing dishes, seven of them served during restaurant week. I’m still savoring each bite. Dine in a glass covered addition and you have glimpses of the sun, moon, and even a stone Church. Quite lovely.

We arrived at 10:30 and Osteria stops serving at 11pm on Saturday. We were seated promptly and waited for our guest to arrive. They did 15 mintes later. Usually when the kitchen is about to close the staff gets in a frenzy to clean, prep for the next day, count their tips, and get ready to go out. We didn't feel any of that. In fact our waiter Brandon was well relaxed, explained everything in detail, and never once rushed us to order. We started off with their simple margarita pizza, how could you not, one of the best crispy pizza in the Philadelphia area. Then we kept it simple and ordered an array of pastas. The wild boar bolognese, chicken liver rigatoni, and conchigliette with octopus were not just hits but a solid deep to center, Willie Stargell Veteran Stadium home run. We finished the meal with some amaros and pistachio gelato. Osteria was a great way to end a Saturday night with friends and the staff at Osteria.

We went around 7:30pm on a Sunday to celebrate a move into the city! The employees were friendly, service was excellent ( thank you Corinne?) Drinks were great the limoncello lemonade went down very smooth but packed a punch( drivers beware! ) We shared the pizza with the fried egg and it was AMAZING! Light but flavorful with a thin crunchy crust! Our guests ate the rabbit, ribs and shared the cheese ( heavenly) ravioli. So light and thin! Highly recommend it as an appetizer or if you desire a light meal! No coffee for us, we were saving room for the chai tea ice cream ( share with 2-3) Yummo, lemon mascarpone danish with fresh berries, polenta “budino” with gianduia mousse and candied hazelnuts. We sat inside and we're originally concerned with the comfort of the chairs ( for health reasons) but did very well! There is valet but we found parking on the street. Casual dress, no tshirts or shorts! Looking forward to a return visit! Manga!

I've been reading the reviews of this restaurant, and a lot of them are saying that the food is mediocre, and I have to disagree! Some of the best, and obviously fresh pasta/pizza doughs I have had I my life. Worth the cost which honestly was not very high (146 for two entrees, a pizza, and a 72 dollar bottle of wine); come on people I have no problem paying for quality food and service!

Overall this was a solid enough experience. Our server was very kind and warm but quickly pointed out she was new and had not tried many of the dishes….so could only recommend what was popular. We wanted a slow pace experience, so did not mind long waits (ex: the check sat on the table for 10 minutes waiting to be run). The pasta portions were large and flavorful, and definitely the high point of the meal. I was not a huge fan of the crudo, given I prefer my crudo served cold and without skin, and this was served room temperature with the skin still on, but perhaps others enjoy this preparation? Another plus is when we asked for a bottle of wine, the wine director recommended a bottle which was on the low end of the range we stated and very much met the characteristics we described. I would go back at some point to try the pizza, but definitely not running back.

The service was great and the food was very good. We had two different pasta dishes caramelle and the tagliatelle - highly recommend. Reasonably priced.

Osteria was suggested to me by a local "foodie" friend as a place to check out. We had a group of 8 and they easily accommodated us as the restaurant is spacious with ample inside room. There is also a glassed in area that I suspect can be opened up in the warmer weather. We actually walked over from the Marriott Downtown next to the convention center and it was about a 3/4 mile walk. We were advised to taxi/uber back and we did. The staff was very knowledgable and helpful although there is an air of hip and cool to the place. There is an extensive wine list but there is also staff to help with selections and we took the advice of the sommelier and went with a lovely Tuscan blend that was delicious and went well with the food. There is also an interesting beer list with a few on-tap selections that seem to rotate. On the entree side there was something for everyone. The carnivores were very happy and went with a combo rib dish that they all cleaned up. Those preferring things more on the vegetarian end of the spectrum were very happy with some of the pasta dishes available, accompanied by some of the side dishes such as the carrots. The after dinner drinks and desserts did not disappoint although we had to be prodded (just a little) to give them a go after the meal. We all left and 8/8 thought the meal and the experience to be excellent! The foodies win and this is one to add to your Philly list!

I expected so much of a Vetri restaurant, perhaps too much. Most everyone else seems to rave about it. We didn't hate it but didn't love it either...

This upscale, dim lit, greenhouse looking restaurant with beautiful Edison lights spread throughout it is a sight for sore eyes! I had only heard amazing things about it, as it's been around for quite some time now, and had the pleasure of trying it out for the first time during their restaurant week. So, I really got a taste of every part of the menu (that would be triple the amount that we paid any other week). Because it was a busy week for them, we were able to land a 9PM reservation, but my date and I knew it was worth the wait. Once we arrived, the FOH (AKA the host stand, for you newbies) gave a great first impression. They took our coats, and kindly encouraged us to grab a drink at the bar while we wait. Mind you, after hosting at restaurants, I know how some tables can take longer than expected to rise. Therefore, it's normal to grab a drink while you wait. The bartenders were extremely attentive and went above and beyond with our drink orders, and after dropping the check, I asked if it would be okay to have it transferred to our table's tab (very normal in almost every restaurant I have ever worked at/dined at). They told us verbatim that it was "not a problem". I only wish it had not been a problem for our server, who made it very uncomfortable for us once we were seated. I believe his exact words were "Oh, that's the check from the bar" with a questionable look on his face. He then proceeded to say in a passive aggressive way "I mean, I can do that. It's just that we don't usually do that. I can do it. It's just that we prefer that you close out at the bar...". I understand that it's a busy night, and I know first hand how hectic Restaurant Week can get from a server's standpoint. That being said, I also know that he could have left the guilt trip elsewhere before approaching our table, and didn't appreciate his attitude given the fact that I let him know that it was my first time there. Now that we got that out of the way, let's talk about the upside: FOOD! The cuisine was unreal. Come with an adventurous pallet, because I did, and I can now say that I've had chicken liver AND quail! From beginning to end, the food was to die for (including their polenta "budino"...a MUST have), down to their fresh made breadsticks. In conclusion, I will be back for round 2, but am hopeful that I'll have a better experience with the service moving forward.

Delicious food (especially the chicken liver rigatoni, branzino, and meringata), kind and knowledgable staff, excellent atmosphere in the Green House area where my wedding reception was, and a convenient location. Recommend to the highest degree either for a large-scale event in the Green House or a lunch/dinner - whatever you choose, you'll love the food and the Osteria service.

We had dinner few weekends ago at this great place. The inside room is very cozy and welcoming. We sat at the covered terrace with glass walls and ceiling, beautiful atmosphere. We had pizza and Italian cured meats and cheese, and then pasta with veal and lasagna with fungi, really good. For dessert we had pistachio ice cream and chocolate molten cake. Delicious. Great service We would love to go back again.

We have been to Osteria about four or five times now. I would say this is my favorite restaurant among the many I have been too. The combination of food, atmosphere and service brings it to the top of the list. The atmosphere is a very comfortable, casual and lively environment. The service is excellent and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. I have tried a number of items on the menu. The pasta dishes are outstanding. I have the postage stamp ravioli everytime, along with a few others. Last night we ordered the steak Florentine for two (the first time we had this). I generally don't order steaks, but I must say this was the best steak I have ever had in a restaurant (including the typical steak restaurants such as Capital Grille, Mortons, etc). It was a 32 oz ribeye (for two), done to a perfect medium rare, and then sliced for serving. the flavor was tremendous, and needed no additional seasoning. We also had the half duck which was a great dish. This is an outstanding restaurant and one you should put on your list if you are in Philadelphia.

Our party of four enjoyed Osteria for the first time on a Friday evening. We all found the experience to be outstanding, from the our initial greeting through three courses and a couple bottles of wine. Entrees included a whole Branzino, rabbit, and a couple of home made pasta dishes. The quality of the ingredients and the overall preparation and presentation of the various dishes were top notch. There were several reasonable choices on the rather expensive wine list, which the sommelier was happy to recommend. Overall we had a great time.

We dined at Osteria on a recent Sunday evening on a biz trip weekend to Philly. The restaurant came highly recommended by foodie friends who live in town. And, the restaurant did not disappoint. Our server was a delightful young woman, friendly, but professional and not imposing. The space is lovely, just like you want every neighborhood Italian restaurant to feel - beautifully lit, wonderful aromas coming from the open kitchen, laughter coming from the bar....It just feels like a good spot. The food is authentic Northern Italian. You cannot miss with a nightly special -- the night we were there, the winter pasta special was a wild boar ragu and it was sublime. I could eat that dish on a weekly basis! Creative cocktails. Beautiful handmade pastas. Ample portions. Would be a fun place to go for a birthday or with a group to share several dishes. We will definitely go back!

I went here for restaurant week and I was super excited. I have always wanted to try this place, however I was pretty disappointed. Our server was so unenthusiastic. He just seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else. Was kinda comical but still. The food was okay, I enjoyed the tuna but the pasta wasn’t anything spectacular. I really was expecting some good pasta considering we ordered the two pasta dishes that always stay on the menu because they’re “so popular”. Anyways, we got the octopus which was recommended to us. I hated it but my boyfriend loved it so maybe that was just me. Dessert wasn’t tasty either. I mean I loved the look and decor of the restaurant but I don’t think I would go back for the food. Bar looked nice though. Would probably go check out the bar.

During a business trip to Philly, my friend and I jumped away from a hectic convention schedule to dine at a "good Italian" restaurant. We chose Osteria due to several recommendations from colleagues. We were SO glad that we took the time! Even though it was very busy (and somewhat noisy) that evening, we felt as though our server was attentive, and made certain that we were satisfied with each course (even noticing that my friend wasn't drinking her wine choice, and switched it out for something else so she would be happy)! We were so impressed with the food, that we bought several of the chef's Italian cookbooks! I would definitely return here next time I'm in the area!

The service was excellent. The server was very helpful and very knowledgeable. The food was another matter. I do not eat meat or dairy, so I was told that they could make pasta with vegetables. By pasta, I thought I was getting spaghetti. Instead, they served those hollow tube things. And the sauce was awful - not sure if it was made with a meat base. This was perhaps the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant. I should have just asked for a salad. On the other hand, I was with a group of six, and they all enjoyed their food. Why is it so hard for restaurants to serve decent food for people who eat a plant based diet? I thought that restaurants in a big city such as Philadelphia would be more accommodating.

Food was very good. So was service. Bill included 4 bottles of wine and we only drank two. At the very least, careless preparation and review of the check. At worst, trying to pad the bill. Ruined an otherwise good experience. Will not return.

I loved the vibe of this place and the food was stellar. It's a little out of the way - need to uber or taxi there from downtown - but i loved the food and the feeling overall.

The place offers you the best Italian cuisine in Philly. The service is fantastic and friendly, the food is amazing and the atmosphere is great. Playing Italian music during your time there, fresh ingredients and you'll be back for more. The desserts are so delicious and just enough not to feel you're eating too much. Great pizza as well as other food options. Dinner reservations required. Trust me you need to come here.

Food was excellent! Octopus was exceptional: best ever. Rigatoni with chicken livers were to die for. Wife had mushroom ravioli also exceptional. Only draw back, cheapest wine was $48 a bottle. After checking the price on our I phone, we realized the $48 wine cost $12.98 retail. Establishment could cut their customers a break. All in all, a wonderful experience.

This restaurant was everything the hype was about. The food was excellent as well as the service by our waiter Tony. My friends braised pork shank was taking a little too long and everyone else's family. So instead of keeping the ready food under a warmer and risk ruining it, they brought her a beautiful truffle pasta dish while she waited for her order. It. Was. Amazing. Highly recommended!!!

Hosted 24 guest last night at Osteria. ALL the food was great with special mention for wild boar pasta and Florentine ribeye. Wines were full bodied and smooth (Chris Pico the sommelier picked all winners including a nice grapa). Now under the leadership of chef Jeff Michaud the place ROCKS!!

Definitely a five star experience for service and the food. We had the charcuterie and broccolini appetizers. The pasta and salami all made here and. We finished with the pasta with wild boar bolognese and duck rage. Home made Gelato and apple torte finished things off. Everything looked amazing. Would come back anytime.

Excellent food and Outstanding service! We had dinner before a Steely Dan concert,The place was packed with patrons attending the concert. We had the grilled octopus scallops one of the pasta dishes and pumpkin raviolis it was fabulous I can’t wait to return !

Celebrated our Mom’s birthday - party of 7…first time for most of our party, dining at Osteria. The ambience of the restaurant was warm and welcoming- typical Friday night vibe- people enjoying the bar atmosphere or dinner before a show. Really wanted to walk around a bit more but we had a specific window of time… Food is northern Italian and tastefully crafted. Whitney, our server (who was fantastic) recommended from the apps side, the Broccolini Caesar, the potato dish and Fritto Misto- all very, very good. We also added the whipped ricotta - very good as well. We also tried different pizzas in addition to sampling the beef and polenta (highly recommend). Side note: The staff here at Osteria are very good at what they do- as mentioned, our server Whitney, excellent. Everyone taking care of our table, kind and efficient. Thank you Molly (one of the MOD’s) for speaking with me about our experience and making sure that Mom would be taken care of with a special dessert…to the other MOD who greeted me initially at the door when we arrived ( yes, 20 min late, with apologies- snow and parking in Philly) I knew you were initially not happy about our party showing up late (the first thing you said to me was “4:30”?!) but honestly, it all worked out… we honored your request to be out by 7pm, no problem. You also then took the time to check on us and make dessert happen for Mom… thank you.

First- this place is pricy. But they have a happy hour which was great. Their happy hour meals are not small. I had octopus which was small but nice. Their chicken liver pasta looked like a dinner entre tasted great and was like 9 dollars. Their pizza was also good but the pasta was the star for me. Great service.

640 North Broad St. Philadelphia PA 19130, (215) 763-0920, 4.5 stars, expensive but fantastic Italian restaurant, maybe the best Italian meal ever, great atmosphere, superior service, chef set up a large round table near ours and he dined with friends late into the evening, very cool place, felt like a real dining experience, cannot recommend this place enough

We went to Osteria for the first time in Oct 2019 as part of a large group. I was initially disappointed that, after careful consideration when ordering, all appetizers and entrees were shared among the group. However, this style allowed me to sample everyone's selections and every single dish was absolutely delicious. I was thrilled to enjoy bites of dishes I'd never have thought to order. The food is a delight for the senses. The pairings of flavors and textures were so tasty. Everything from the bread, to the salads, to the pastas and appetizers were just fantastic. So we returned with another couple last night for an amazing dinner even better than our first visit. Our server Erin was as attentive as one could be and the kitchen cleverly spaced out our courses to make for a delightful evening of delicious bites. Our favorites were the pumpkin ravioli, the bolognese and grilled octopus.

Had an excellent birthday dinner here last night. For apps, we got the duck breast and the charred octopus. They were both delicious. I’d recommend trying that duck breast! Pasta course was fettuccine and clams and the wild boar bolognese. Both were phenomenal! I mean they were delicious. You can tell the pasta is homemade, and the wild boar was just just amazing. The crunchiness of the breadcrumbs in the clam sauce is great. Pizza was the one with the egg and sausage. Also delicious. Last, we got the whole branzino. It had a wonderful sauce, just watch out for those little fish bones! Service was good, and we liked the atmosphere. Next time, we’re going ask to sit in the side room with the hanging plants. It’s really pretty in there.

We went for happy hour, which is a great deal, and were seated in the beautiful garden in the back. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was on point. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I have eaten at Osteria a number of times for both lunch and dinner. The food has always been of the highest quality. It has been always fresh and well prepared. And they have a wide variety of dishes, from vegetable plates to small pizzas, to rabbit casalinga and pork shank. The setting is modern with a lot of wood and high ceilings. Generally the noise level is moderate, even when the restaurant is full. There is a casual friendly atmosphere, with children invited. The service is generally good, being friendly, attentive and helpful. Occasionally, as in my last dinner visit, the wait staff can be overwhelmed by the number of tables one has to cover, but this is not the rule. The prices are moderate and reasonable.

Four of us went here after an art show. The atmosphere was lively and very open. Our waiter was so charming . His name was James Maverick Cook and he was very engaging and enthusiastic. We had the tasting menu which consisted of so much food we thought we would never eat again! Every single dish was excellent. We had pizza, pasta, swordfish chicken, squash blossoms, crab, and a few other things. Next time I would probably just get a few dishes to share and that would be quite enough. It was such a nice night. If you go, ask for the same waiter and you are sure to feel welcome!

This was our first visit to Osteria and we were very impressed with the restaurant. We really enjoyed the ambience and although our table was in between two others, we didn't feel like we were part of their conversation. The waiter was very helpful in offering suggestions when asked. My husband and I shared the wood grilled octopus which were delicious and had a lemony taste. We then shared their signature pasta which was raviolis stuffed with Parmesan cheese and a buttery sauce with mushrooms. Also outstanding. I ordered the braised short ribs which I enjoyed and my husband got a seared fish with beans in a delicious sauce. The sauces were so good that we couldn't help dipping the bread in them! We shared a trio of gelatos for dessert which was also very good. My husband ordered wine by the glass and thought the portions were small and the price was high. We had a wonderful evening there and hope to return soon.

My cousin was in town for the weekend so my family and I chose Osteria as a "catch up" spot. We were early to our reservation but the staff quickly seated us in the enclosed patio portion of the restaurant. The lights above us were very charming, but a little dark. The pasta is made fresh in the restaurant as well as the bread and breadsticks. Everything was fresh and delicious. My cousin ordered the linguini dish right when the kitchen ran out, but the chef kindly accommodated her request anyway. My sister and I ordered the torteloni dish with duck, which was buttery and perfectly al dente. Our server was very friendly and was able to answer all of our questions about the menu. The vegetable sampler was very good as well. Nothing was overseasoned or over-salted. Overall, I highly recommend Osteria on Broad Street. Only downsides were the dim lighting and noise levels.

I have been her 5 times in last 3 years, including last evening. Very disappointing. The restaurant is not what it used to be. First of all, it used to have a classier crowd, better dressed and respectful. It has deteriorated into jeans, sweatshirts and loud, boisterous 28-33-year old’s on a Saturday night. More importantly, it just is not worth the money anymore. Service level has deteriorated dramatically with waitresses more interested in waiving hi to their friends out the window than taking orders. Uninformed, constant reference to cheat sheet for menu options. The busboys are more attentive than the waitress or host. We loved this place 3 years ago, no plans to return. It's getting old, lazy and tired.

Was here for dinner . The bread and bread sticks were very good . I started with the seafood anolini, which were perfectly cooked in a light cream sauce . These were excellent with a perfect balance of seafood, dough, and sauce . Followed with the grilled orata . Perfectly cooked and served on a bed of some grain or beans . It could have used either some other vegetable or perhaps a potato puree for variety and texture. . The fish came whole and was not fileted at the table . No problem , I can do it myself . However, I needed to ask for a plate to laydown the bones and the head and bone languished there at the side of the table until the very end of dinner! Attention to detail would have had the waiter promptly remove the bones . Not once did the waiter approach to the table to ask how the fish was or let alone remove the bones from the table , which were unsightly to me or the table very close to me . When the waiter finally arrived , I mentioned this and he treated me with a free espresso , which was again a good one. Overall , a great place, but the service could receive a little bit of more attention.

Osteria has been on my to try list for quite some time, so I'm happy we were able to come for my birthday. Service was great, not overbearing but very attentive and she was knowledgable about the specials of the day. 2 cocktails a beer, pizza, appetizer, entree and small pasta dish will run you rougly $135 pre-tip but as you can see we ordered quite generously. We opted for the octopus pizza was which was good. I wished the dough to be a tad crispier, but overall a good pizza but to be honest nothing amazing compared to some of the hot pizza spots in Philadelphia to justify the price. I did love how the octopus was cooked though, perfectly cooked not chewy or rubbery and had a nice charred flavor. The robiola "francobolli" postage stamp ravioli was fabulous, no complaints except I wish the dish was larger! It was so delicious but only a few pieces I really wished for more. The tuna crudo was very good, loved the spearmint contrasting with the pistachio. Lastly the sea bass was very good, skin was nice and crispy but the fish was flakey and paired well with the parsnip puree. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to come back for another visit for a special occasion.
Good italian food
We went with some friends to this restaurant a few days ago and it was quite good. The ragu was amazing and the service excellent.
