Nice spot for dinner w friends or a date

By John Valenti |

Great spot for casual Sicilian in a relaxed atmosphere. Owner was friendly and generous. We had 3 dishes and they were all good. Wine was reasonably priced and well selected. Would definitely come back!

Average I'm afraid

By Happytraveller |

I'm afraid my review isn't as good as others. We were staying at the hotel across the road and decided to pop in. There was only a party of 8 or 10 eating outside and another couple in. We were warmly greeted then it all went down hill. We ordered garlic bread as a starter and it came with the main meal and I was still eating when the waiter tried to clear the table. Felt really rushed. He was quite happy to try pushing the drinks . We had pasta that was quite nice with shrimps, and then asked what we wanted for desserts. We asked for a minute , and then the wrong dessert for me came out .it was cannoli and it was so thick you couldn't eat it. Anyway , we felt really rushed from the beginning to end and they were more concerned about the big party, obviously hoping for a big tip . They were friendly enough ,but alas we wouldn't make a return journey which is a shame as we met with our big family on the holiday inn and we're planning on eating there .

bad experience and expensive

By pablo b |

Last night my wife and I had dinner at this restaurante. We asked for two main dishes: risotto and cioppino. we got our food after five minutes, This was very suspicious, the food was not good. The broth in the cioppino was totally watery and tasteless, it only have one shrimp. The risotto ws totally pasty and without much flavor. Overall not a good experienced but an expensive one. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Wonderful Italian Meal

By Lorraine T |

Andrea, the owner, greeted us, made suggestions and took our order. He is very personable as is all of his staff. The traditional bruschetta was wonderful - the bread was very light - and came with a tasty sauce. My husband had the Cioppino Liguria and I had the Chicken Marsala - both were excellent. Our meals were very good with large portions that dessert was not a possibility. We’d love to come back and try more of their menu items.

Best Italian food on our trip!

By terribWashington |

This was the best Italian restaurant on our entire trip! We spent 12 days in San Diego and two months in Europe this year. Our favorite restaurants were Italian, but this one was the best. Martha was such a nice waitress and the setting was ideal since the tables were arranged for optimal privacy. I had the lobster ravoli with an exquisite vodka sauce. My husband, who makes a good cioppino at home, thought this one was excellent. You won’t be disappointed!

Try it for Italian style

By Eddie Ellis |

Restaurant was recommended by the Holiday Inn Express which is across the street. The atmosphere is cozy and has indoor and outdoor seating. Service was exceptional, friendly and very knowledgeable . Food was good and with enough for leftovers. Good beer, wine and spirits available. Prices are as expected but not out of line.

Great family run business

By Redwinerocks13 |

Across from our Hotel was this want family run Italian Restaurant. (Ash & 7th) we were greeted @ the bar by Victoria, a lovely young woman. Needless to say we went back 3 times! The meatballs and lasagna were really good and the deserts were soooo good! Stop in for their happy hour. They have a bar, tables and outside seating.

Very Good Italian at the base of El Cortez Condos

By Larryrutkowski |

Very Good Italian at the base of El Cortez. Opened in Oct 2023, this restaurant is good food and great service. The owners are from Italy. You can get a great pasta dish made in front of you in a large cheese wheel. Great cocktails and wines (but pass on the Sangria). Happy hour special every day 4-6 pm. I strongly recommend the meatballs. Enjoy!

A gem of an Italian restaurant

By GrantRounding |

We were in San Diego and found a gem of an authentic Italian restaurant whos owner comes from Palermo. We were welcomed by Dave who's an excellent host. He was very knowledgeable & his recommendations on the food and wine were excellent. Dave was also more than willing to share his knowledge of the San Diego/La Jolla/LA areas - a godsend for a tourist when trying to prioritise visits and where to eat. Added to a nice ambiance with various sitting areas, we would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and staff. We sincerely hope they prosper in the future.

What a wonderful first night in San Diego!

We just got back after enjoying a relaxing, delicious dinner here. Andrea was welcoming as were the other members of his team. Our reservation was for 7:00 pm, but we haven't eaten all day since we were travelling, so they were great about us coming early. We waddled home after eating the trufffle burrata as an appetizer, the papparadelle special with duck, the award winning cioppino, and garlic bread. Everything was delicious, the service was attentive, and the champagne was a perfect temp. I must say, this spot is worth finding - loved it!

Amazing service and incredible classical Italian dishes!

By kmcclinchey |

Amazing service and delicious food! Good choices on the daily Happy Hour menu, extra savings on Wednesday for bottles of wine and a good selection of classic Italian pasta and entrees. It was so good, we ate there twice in our 3 day visit to the area! The bruschetta and spaghetti carbonara were superb but the tiramisu was the true hit!

My new favorite pasta place in SD

By Pauline Steele |

My brother and I took our mom here for her birthday dinner and Osteria Cotto e Mangiato might be my new favorite Italian restaurant for pasta! Parking: Paid street parking only. Since it’s located further away from the main downtown SD area, there were still a good amount of parking available even on a Friday night. Service/Ambiance: Wonderful service from our main server Lidia, along with those who served us our food, drinks, and the cheese wheel pasta. It’s a very small and intimate restaurant, very nice ambiance inside. There were 2-4 person tables inside and a handful more tables outside with heaters. We saw a party of 6 while we were there, so I imagine it could work for a little bigger group. I suggest making a reservation! The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. Food: -Fritto Misto ($22.95): fried Calamari served with marinara and aioli. Perfect starter to share with the table -Cheese Wheel Pasta with Gnocchi (market price) + add Sausage ($4): You can choose between gnocchi or fettuccine pasta, then you can also add in protein. They roll out the cheese wheel and prepare the dish in front of the table. This was sooo good and creamy! Don’t be fooled by the smallish plate it’s served in— it was very filling! We ended up having leftovers. -Tortellini di Lobster e Shrimp ($35.99): This was also so yummy. Fresh creamy burrata served on top and they include a decent amount of shrimp. -Pesto Flatbread ($18.95): 4 large squares, also perfect to share. -Caesar Salad ($11.95): This tasted good but was smaller than I expected for the price. -Limoncello cake: They served this for my mom’s birthday and it has the perfect combo of tang and sweetness! Overall: Love this place and will definitely come back for the pasta and to also try out their happy hour menu! Wonderful service. Go check them out!

Delicious Italian food and great service

By TimIng |

During a business trip, my colleagues and I found this great Italian restaurant on the corner of Ash & Seventh streets. The atmosphere and staff were very warm and personal. The food was outstanding and the price was reasonable. The food was nothing like the typical Italian chain restaurants. It was obviously prepared by a chef who really knew how to cook Italian dishes. I highly recommend that anyone in San Diego dine here. Our server, Nicole was very friendly and made some great recommendations. The restaurant is easy to find. It’s located on the corner, right in front of the El Cortez condominium building, and across the street from the Holiday Inn Express, Downtown San Diego.

Average restaurant food and service.

Pretentious service from a waiter who believed he was superior. Food ordinary. Wines expensive. Upselling on all items when not required. Would not recommend

A slice of Italy here... in San Diego!

By Roberto M |

Cozy place and delicious dishes! Recommended... a real Italian restaurant with Sicilian shades! Don't miss it!

Don't skip. The splurge is worth it.

This was probably one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. BEST. RESTURANT. EVER. My mom got the most amazing Cabernet called Highland 41 and I got a Peach Bellini. The service was so incredible we felt like family. We took the WHOLE family the next night for dinner. We had some dishes and shared: 1. Traditional Lasagna. Cooked directly in the pan and served straight from the oven. 2. Beef Short Rib Ravioli. 3. Pasta Primavera 4. Penne with vodka sauce and a side of Salmon. 5. Bruschetta trio. The burrata with Panchetta and Honey and balsamic glaze was to die for. And the Canolois! Don’t get me started on those. My sister and her husband went the following night for a date and shared the half lobster with Gnocci in vodka sauce. The restaurant is on a corner and super tiny. Maybe seats 40 people total inside and outside. They will also make anything you ask for that they have ingredients for. They also have a giant cheese wheel that you can order table side where they melt the cheese with a blow torch and mix your pasta choice directly into the melted cheese. Best dining experience in a long time.
