Dined with family on a Wednesday evening at this restaurant in the Embassy Suites. Our choices included arugula salad (generous), ricotta cavatelli, Chicken mario (delicious), and a chopped salad (special requests accepted). Sides are extra for the main dishes and there is a children's menu. Ordered glasses of wine and a Cabernet. The tables are not crowded and the noise level acceptable. Being with family was great, but for a dining experience there are many other better options for Italian food. Osteria's pizzeria option may have been a better choice.

Have been here for brunch and for an heirloom tomato dinner. Both were fantastic in their own ways. Service was attentive and courteous. Food was delicious. Can’t wait for a regular dinner here next.

My husband and I dined here on a Saturday night before a theater show on our recent trip to Chicago. We were seated promptly (we had a reservation) and really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. We had planned to do the family style dining to taste several of their dishes, but we just weren't hungry enough for a large meal, so I ordered the gnocchi and my husband ordered the roast chicken. The gnocchi were exceptional and the chicken was also prepared very well. We really enjoyed the roasted garlic served with the bread as well. We felt our server was a bit terse when she told us about the specials; she also seemed a bit upset that we weren't ordering more than just two entrees. However, the assistant server was incredibly prompt with refilling our water, and the host really went out of his way to give us recommendations of nearby venues that we could listen to music before or after the show we were going to. We would definitely return the next time we are in the city.

Pizzeria Via Stato This is a lovely, casual friendly little bar and pizzeria adjacent to the Osteria Via Stato on State Street (North Side). It was specifically recommended to us for its paper think cracker like pizza crust. This is what the Chicago people call Tavern Pizzas. These are 10 inch individual pizzas. Three of us shared our choices. The white fontina and sausage was fabulous. This is made with house made sausage, fontina val d’asota, mushroom and caramelized onions. The combination was a great savory blend with the sweetness of the caramelized onions topping it off. The crispy pepperoni with red sauce was also great, but the classic margherita got the top vote by our group. The simplicity of the crushed san marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and vibrant basil on the crispy thin crust hit the excellent mark. Pizzeria via Stato highly recommended if you want to vacation from deep dish for a bit. Great atmosphere and friendly service and some beers on tap also provided us with a great experience.

Dinner here capped off our trip to Chicago. Although some normal Italian standby’s are on the menu, there were several dishes that I don’t usually see. We particularly enjoyed the fried artichokes, the market risotto (fresh corn with crispy pork belly - delicious), the Calabrian potatoes, and the gnocchi (light as a cloud). Many Chicago restaurants are trendy and loud- the atmosphere here was more relaxing and conducive to conversation. I will definitely come back during future visits.

We had an excellent dinner at Osteria Via Stato. We shared the chopped salad, chicken penne with a rose sauce and seafood stew. This was lots of food for two average hungry people. The salad and chicken penne were excellent and the seafood stew was very good. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were reasonable. Id recommend this restaurant highly.

So I am here on business and heard that my dad was in Michigan city,so I said let's meet for dinner in downtown Chicago. We wanted Italian but not knowing our way around we stumbled upon this place. I heard it was good so we got a table for 2. Terry our server was great and made the Amish chicken dinner sound interesting , I've never heard of Amish chicken. Anyway we had the mini veal meatballs for our appetizer. It was just enough for 2 people to share and they were yummy! My dad had the Spicy Spaghetti and meatballs and I ordered the Mario's chicken. I had it with the puree style mash potatoes and it was served in a lemon sauce. It was delicious! The food was great , pricey for Italian but then so is Chicago. We had the chocolate bar for dessert skip it! We were disappointed, broken up chocolate bar with dried fruit , my dad said he could have done the same thing at home. They smash the chocolate bar at your table! Anyway place is very nice and food is great. I highly recommend this restaurant, just skip the chocolate bar!

The food and wine selection was just what I was looking for. The bread with roasted garlic was excellent. My Chicken Mario dish was very good - I will definitely go again.

Recently in town staying nearby for a wedding, we visited Osteria Via Stato for lunch (and our first meal in Chicago) and it set the bar HIGH for the rest of our expectations. Our server was personable and helpful, our food was incredible and delicious. Don't let previous reviews that complained about portions or customer service deter you from enjoying a meal here! Our party of five was seated promptly according to our lunch reservation. After our server suggested ordering a pizza to share as an appetizer, our party (knowing how much we'd be indulging at the wedding) instead ordered the Arugula Salad and shared it. The bacon was amazing, salad really good. Our server treated us to the break and roasted garlic and now I want that at every table I dine at! Two of us ordered personal pizzas and demolished them (nothing to take home for later, oh well!) - these are not deep dish (which we were happy about). And our sandwiches were amazing: my daughter loved her BLT and my husband and I the Amish Chicken Breast Sandwich.

The service was phenomenal! My husband and I really felt special on our anniversary! Thank you to all who made it memorable!

We were staying at the hotel, and decided to try this place but online showed it was booked. Decided to show up and try to get in and what do you know, they had a party of 7 no show, so they took us. Dinner was great, I would eat here again.

We are HUGE Lettuce Entertain You fans but last night was unbelievably bad. It was like everyone was high and could not remember an instruction. We had an Open Table reservation but they never checked us in so we got the wrist slap e-mail this morning. It was a Monday night so it definitely was not crowded. I ordered a salad and an appetizer. I asked for the salad first and the appetizer served with the other entrees. Two of the other three salads came out but mine did not. We finally saw our waiter Vance and he went to check on it. One HOUR later, the food was served and I received my salad and appetizer at the same time. We of course asked for the manager and he was "high" too and very non-apologetic. He took some meatballs off the bill. As you can see from some of the other reviews this place needs to be closed. I promise you we will never go back. It was horrible. The only good thing was our friend picked up the tab.

There is an entrance in the Embassy Suites. We are staying at the Embassy for a small family reunion. Our daughter came in about 2 so we decided to try Osteria. We were very pleased with the quality of service & food.

Our group of 4 had a reservation for the pizzeria on a Friday night over Memorial Day weekend. We were seated promptly in the outdoor section. Drink orders came quickly. I had the mixed green salad and split a pepperoni margherita pizza (not on the menu) with one of the other diners. Our pizza had a thin, crispy crust and it was excellent. A nice selection of Italian and other wines is available by the glass.

The service, food, and even their own cardonated water was great. Look forward to going again, when I go to Chicago.

I've reviewed it before & will again. We keep coming back because the food is that good. You don't expect such a great spot in such a touristy location BUT Osteria Via Stato never disappoints. The Parmesan onions are to die for, we always start with those and this last time I enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli because it's seasonal and not on the menu all year. Great service. Love Osteria.

This is a busy restaurant and obviously popular with the locals. Service was very good and the food was lovely

Osteria via Stata is a surprise. Located at the corner of State St. and Ontario, this Lettuce Entertain You restaurant is a repurposed use of the space formerly used by Papagus (a LEY restaurant that I thought was very good when it first opened), and is a big space divided in three dining rooms, one by the bar, one to the right of the bar, and a third room near the kitchen entrance, plus a small private party room that looked like it could hold about 20-39 people.. Dark wood tables with comfortable chairs are placed in such a way as to prevent overcrowding. The reason I was surprised is that I was expecting a sort of nondescript meal of standard Italian fare, similar to the uninspired offerings at Saranello’s the LEY restaurant in Wheeling. Osteria elevates its game. Bread from a large Tuscan loaf is served with a small plate of roasted garlic in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Take your fork and mash the glove of garlic, dip in the oil mix and spread the garlic on the bread. Yum. We ordered a plate of long stemmed artichokes, deep fried in a light batter served with a dusting of Parmesan and a lemon aioli, an excellent start that was enough to give a couple of quartered pieces to the four of us. My wife and I split a tasty (but at $11.95, pricey) Caesar salad. J*** had the pan-seared lake trout, a nice portion served with artichokes, spinach and brown butter. I had the Hunter stew, a Tuscan delight of quail, roasted duck, and a house made sausage served from a small Dutch oven. I will come back just for this dish! Service was competent, and we left feeling very satisfied and full. I can’t comment on desserts since we did not have them, but I would suspect that they would not disappoint.

We swung by for Restaurant Week 2023 and had a delightful dinner - well paced courses and plenty of food on the prefix menu - all of it delicious. THat "garlic" bread was to die for and I cannot believe how much of it I ate. The RW dessert chocolate tart was just the right size. And the service was impeccable - really cannot understate how many times our water glasses were topped off by virtually every front-of-house team member. Can't wait to come back and try their pizza!

Excellent menu, nice wine selection to pair with. Service is wonderful, atmosphere is delightful. Two sections for your preferred dining. Outdoor seating available weather permitting. Call for reservations in dining room.

This was a very good restaurant. The food has alot of flavor. The service was awesome. A bit pricey, but it is Chicago.

Had made a reservation for the Osteria in person. Our party ended up in the pizzeria. No explanation or excuse offered. Our waiter was friendly but pushy. The pasta we had was average. The portion size was okay - no doggy bag needed. Not sure we are going to make athird attempt to get into the Osteria.

We attended a beautiful wedding ceremony/reception at Osteria where the service was impeccable and the food was prepared beautifully - my steak was better than one I had at a well-known Chicago steakhouse a few days before. I would highly recommend this venue for anyone looking for an intimate, old world feel setting. Specific kudos to Angela (I hope I’m getting her name correct!) who kept all of the “I Do Crew” organized. Given that experience, and the fact we were staying in the Embassy Suites next door, we went to the restaurant for pizza the next night and had a so-so experience. The appetizers and pizza were great, but it took our waitress probably 10+ minutes to acknowledge us when we were seated and our table was never cleared between courses. I had to flag her down to get anything. I’m guessing it’s not the norm given our experience the night before, so we’ll giving it another shot when we’re back in the city.

First up we had supper in a large group hosted by the CEO of the company that owns the restaurant. So it was not a normal roll up and eat night out and we were feed a wide range of preordered dish’s and wine. The place is very nice with vaulted ceiling and well designed interiors. Waiting staff in white aprons and well trained. Food was really very good indeed and I can’t imagine the kitchen could have stepped up to that level for the CEO with out having the basic skill to deliver day in day out as all the dishes were on the menu. Whilst qualified by my experience I would feel very confident in recommending the place and would go back!

I have eaten at this restaurant multiple times and always had a good experience. I decided to have a staff appreciation lunch for 35 at the restaurant. Despite the fairly large group, the service was excellent and the food was as good as always. I was impressed that the waitstaff had no problem taking special requests (not always the case with group dining in other establishments) from some of the guests. There was enough waitstaff assigned to our group that the appetizers, meal and beverage service moved at a nice pace with no long lags. Planning the event was straight forward and the event staff were easy to work with. The special events group even allowed me an extra entree option which I greatly appreciated. Pricing was very affordable. My guests loved the food and the space with several commenting that they couldn't wait to come back again.

We were part of a group so our perspective is skewed. The room we were in was nice and well adorned. the assigned wait staff wee attentive and professional. I can't speak to the cost/value ratio as I was a guest and did not pay. I had a trout dish, my daughter a beef shank and my wife a chicken dish. Everyone proclaimed their food as very good. My fish was terrific... the dessert delicious. and the win excellent though chosen by someone with knowledge of these things. All in all, a superb dining experience.

We had people in from out f town and were very disappointed in the wait staff as well as it was very cold in the restaurant . The gentalman that waited on us had zero personality. Limited menu and not worth it. So many other great opinions on the area

I happened by this place while in Chicago on business. It was a Thursday night and I was looking for a place to sit at the bar and have a beer and a light dinner by myself. The special pizza of the night looked very tempting, but in the spirit of eating light, I ordered the half portion of the penne with vodka sauce and chicken. Along with the excellent gratis bread it was a perfect meal. I love that they offer a smaller portion at a considerable discount. Contrary to many of the reviews I read after my visit, I found the service (at the bar) to be excellent.

My parents flew in from out of town to celebrate Easter weekend with us. We chose Osteria Via Stato due to location, and reviews. I called ahead to see if they have gluten free options and the hostess said they did. Pros: My parents liked it, they had a fairly good variety, and we were able to sit outside. The staff was very friendly and out waiter was attentive. Cons: For four people for a buffet our bill was nearly $300. Not worth it considering there was no carving station, and the only solo meat option was chicken. The gluten free options weren't that great either. Basically, it was the chicken, vegetables, and fruit. Being that the highlights of the buffet were waffles and french toast, I definitely was paying too much to not have those in a gluten free option. We travel a lot, and usually places have gluten free pancakes, waffles, or bread options for me. I was surprised that a restaurant in the heart of a major city did not.

Can highly recommend this place! Delicious food, extraordinary dishes for a relatively low price. Service was great. We could split the bill without any problems.

Good Italian restaurant with outside patio for summer time. The patio seat is great to enjoy nice meal with bottle of wine. By my opinion the design in the inside part is not good. The food was decent and the wine was chilled to perfection. Overall not bad restaurant but if they do some improvements they can go to the next level.

I was looking for a traditional Chicago Italian restaurant and found it here. Even though the name says pizzeria after it, it is a full Italian restaurant. It has a great classic atmosphere. We ordered the grilled octopus which was tender and not chewy. The cavitelli was very good and the gnocchi in duck ragu was also delicious. The waitstaff was friendly and well versed on the menu. You could tell this was a career job and not just short term gig. The bill was very reasonable for Chicago and I would recommend it again.

Very good! The chicken Mario was very nice and the presentation of the food was good. I felt the appetizers to be very small and barely enough to share between two people.

The dinner was delicious. My wife had the gnocchi, and I had the penne with chicken. Both were hearty and flavorful. The bread before the meal was a real treat, as well.

So, we ended up at Osteria Via Stato after a very long walk around Chicago one day and we arrived between lunch and dinner - about 3pm. The management and staff were exceptional as our reservation was for much later in the afternoon. The environment is authentic Italian, regardless of the fact it is connected to the Embassy Suites, and very comfortable and relatively quiet. What struck me immediately was the class of the wait staff and restaurant management, accommodating, polite and fully of good recommendations. We were tired from our walk and not in a hurry - and the staff was accommodating - in that, they said you have the table and don't hurry and they meant it. Other times, we wanted a leisurely dinner and the wait staff is trying to hurry you in and out - but not here. The food is EXCEPTIONAL! I strongly recommend the caprese as an appetizer - it is the best i have every had, and we love Italian restaurants. The mozzarella literally melted in your mouth. The main course was great - as we both had pizza...perfectly thin and with abundant meat and veggies. It was the combination of service, food quality, unhurried atmosphere, and very, very reasonable prices that will bring us back when we visit Chicago again...that is a definite. This is my favorite Italian restaurant so far in all my many many trips. STRONGLY RECOMMEND visiting.

Great place for Italian food, will definitely come back when in Chicago. One of the best Tiramisu I have tried in the USA. It was as close to the best ever even in Italy. The service and the main menu are also very good. I would recommend this place to anyone who asks.

We were looking for an early dinner, and discovered that this restaurant featured half price pizza during happy hour, which fit our needs perfectly. We also got several salads and the burrata appetizer which was delicious. I did think that the salads were a little on the expensive side, being $11 to $17, but the half price pizzas helped to make up for it. Outdoor seating was available.

We booked a family dinner here and the food was incredible, the service was friendly and professional, and the prices were fair. The gnocchi was amazing and the flavors were blended to the best effect.

Restaurant was a fairly good size, but had a steady flow of traffic between the front door and the side door that went into the Embassy suites hotel. The hostess would not offer me a regular table because I was only one person. There were plenty of open tables, but they offered for me to basically just sit at the bar. So I did. Funny thing was it was pretty late like 8 PM and there was no one coming in for dinner and they should have allowed me to sit at a regular table. I sat at the bar and the bartender, Mike, was distracted. I ordered a margarita pizza and a chop salad, along with a glass of red wine. The food was actually very good, once they got it to me. The chop salad had to be sent back two times because I simply wanted the dressing on the side. Twice they brought it to me with the dressing on the salad and I kept sending it back and ask the bartender to go tell the kitchen what I wanted. Third time was a charm. Salad was good, and the margarita pizza was delicious. Even though later the bartender was not very busy, he was not attentive. The food was pretty good. But the service was not good.

On Oct. 5th we hosted a Rehearsal Dinner at Osteria Via Stato for 40 people. We worked with the catering manager Michelle who was so easy to work with. We had a warm and inviting private dining room with 2 outstanding servers Maria and Matt. The food was fantastic! We are still getting compliments. The veal meatballs and sweet onion appetizers were fabulous, the pasta dishes delicious and each guest chose an entree from a list of three - incredible. We look forward to dining there again.

It’s nothing to brag about but they have decent food, nice staff and fast service. There’s a nice area outside for warm afternoons. Although it’s an italian restaurant, once in there’s a pub like feeling.

The veal meatballs and grilled octopus are spectacular and a good value. Don't forget to add a Caesar salad to complement them and you are all set. Alberto is a great bartender and server who adds a nice touch to your experience.

I had the Pacheri, sautéed spinach and a glass of Pinot. They also start with fresh Italian bread and garlic/oil/balsamic dipping. Everything except the spinach was divine. Pros: The pacheri was hand made and you could tell by the perfect al dente cook of the pasta. The pork ragu topping it was very well balanced in acidity, richness and seasoning. The bread was warm and fluffy. The garlic created an amazing slight sweetness in the oil/balsamic dip. Cons: the spinach was watery and didn’t taste fresh and was served luke warm. The service was incredibly slow! I waited 10min for the bill and another 10min for the waiter to pick up to charge and return for signature. 20 min to pay a bill??!! Sorry there are too many Italian restaurants to return and experience that again. If you’re busy have someone else help with the admin parts! I won’t be returning.

This is a THIN crust pizzeria in Chicago rather than a Chicago Style Pizza Pizzeria, and it's a noisy, energetic, restaurant in an equally buzzing neighborhood in the heart of downtown. Their wine list seems exceptional though heavily slanted toward Italian bottles, and while the pizzas are super thin, flaky, and delicate, they generally weren't substantive (filling) or stellar as we could all taste char spots underneath our crusts. Given the rather elevated prices here, I think we'd visit another pizzeria

Planned a bridal shower for my niece...17+ guests...Sat at the Chef's Table...so easy to work with staff, and the food was served family style in "traditional" Italian courses; plentiful, something for everyone from gluten free and vegetarian to meat lovers and sweets lovers, with excellent reviews from my guests. It was a joy to work with Osteria Via Stato, and earn points from the Lettuce Entertain You group. Local Chicagoans who attended event said they look forward to going back.

I didn't have high expectations when I went in, but the Italian food was delicious. And the prices were reasonable, which was a relief. I ate and drank a lot and had a good time.

I really liked the busy vibe of the restaurant and our service was extraordinary. They offer an extensive wine list and all wines are served professionally in beautiful glassware. My husband and son had the Gorgonzola crusted filet which they both loved. I did steal a bite from my husband and it was extremely tender and flavorful. I had the gnocchi which was light and pillowy although the portion wasn’t generous. My daughter in law had the Chicken Mario which was just a thick chicken breast seared in butter. It was not dry but it was also not anything special either. The pre-meal bread is a salted focaccia which is served hot with a garlic clove and olive based oil. It is delicious!

Came here thinking it was the pasta Italian restaurant but this was the pizzeria. So we ordered pizza, the octopus and our younger two off the kids menu. The food was very good! The service was friendly but so slow that the the only reason this is rated a 3.

Service was fine, decor was festive, food was below average. Very bland and nothing stood out. Wanted this to be a great new find, but left feeling that there are much better choices to be had in the area.

Very cozy ambience with really great service. They have a gluten free menu which is greatly appreciated! The mushroom pasta was great however the seafood stew was sub par. Def worth a try!!

Not the worst Italian food I have had but nothing to write (or take-away) home about. Location likely contributes for relatively expensive for what it was, as portion size leaned into 'piccola'. First night tried tomato soup and margarita pizza. I liked the thin-crust on the pizza but small size was cut so that some pieces on edge were tiny and crumbled. Meatball serving tasted good, but small balls were amuse-bouche not dinner.

Love this place, never fails to disappoint. We head to Chicago once every year for the marathon and always make a point of stopping here for lunch. In the past we have enjoyed the pizza and other offerings but this year we decided to have our mid-Saturday afternoon pre-race carb load on the patio. The bread to start is always good served with olive oil and fresh parmesan. This year the patio manager(?) Grant brought us a plate of roasted garlic and oil as well which was amazing. For our mains my partner had the spaghetti and meatballs and I had the gnocci. I may not have a sophisticated pallet like other reviewers think they have but in my opinion that gnocci was the best pasta I have ever eaten. It was sooooo good. Add to that the perfect service and customer service from our waiter and Grant and we will definitely be back in 2018.

Have not been in Chicago ffor a couple of years and wanted to go back to Osterio Via Stato. I was thrilled that the food is as good as ever. We always have the Dinner Party. They bring out 4 appetizers ( all which are delicious) then 2 different pastas..The pesto reminded me of the pesto we had in Venice! Followed by your choice of an entre. My husband had wonderful scallops and I had a delicious fish stew. We topped it off with their chocolate bar with nuts and candied fruit. They have a lovely wine selection. Go hungry.....go often!

Amazing Food , nice intimate spaces inside and a cozy feeling Staff were incredible- best we’ve met in Chicago { and for that matter in Dubai where we’ve lived } Fidelma was the perfect host - fantastic ❤️ Avery was also so friendly and super knowledgeable 100% 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

Expensive and tasteless main course of angel hair pasta, 6 shrimp, and 2 spinach leaves for $25. Wine was $15 a glass and a basket of bread $8.95. Gelato and $16 Caesar salad adequate.

Ate with a group of 11. Service was great. Half priced pizzas for happy hour made it even better. Tried a few apps, soup, salad, and pizza. Everything was good. Atmosphere has a nice Italian vibe. Would eat here again without hesitation.

The four of us all ordered different dishes and everyone voted to return. Great service, nice atmosphere, food outstanding.

we were able to sit outside since the weather was nice--service was prompt and our waiter was excellent for recommendations

My wife and I had just arrived to our hotel, the Embassy Suites on N.State Street, in Chicago, Illinois. It was early in the afternoon and all we needed was a bite to carry us over to a planned 7pm dinner. One enters this restaurant from the Embassy Suites hotel lobby. There are two parts to the Osteria Via Stato restaurant: a pizza section for lunch and a second half for fine dining. We ate in the pizza section. We shared a thin crust margherita pizza with mushrooms that was absolutely delicious. The wait staff was great and we really enjoyed our early PM snack!

The food in this restaurant was good. I ate at this restaurant while staying at the attached hotel. They have a different menu for the bar and restaurant. I would dine at Osteria Via again.

We dined with another couple on Monday evening. The food and the service were stellar. Andrea was our server, and she did everything right! When making the reservation, I mentioned that I have a food allergy to onions. Andrea had already gone over the menu with the chef to determine which items I could not have and gave me a menu that had been marked up to highlight those items that could be made without onions. Score! (Unbelievable how so many other restaurants don’t take food allergies seriously.) We started with the House-Marinated Olives and Mini Veal Meatballs, both of which were extremely generous portions. Following the appetizers, we indulged in the flavorful Roasted Tomato Caprese Salad, split between two people. Yummy!! For the main event, each person in the party had a pasta dish, including: Spaghetti Arrabiata, Hand-Rolled Gnocchi, Local Pumpkin Ravioli, and the Cacio E Pepe. Again, the portions were generous and food was packed with flavor. Throughout the meal, Andrea provided excellent service. She didn’t hover, but was attentive to make sure our glasses were full and that we were satisfied with our choices. Kudos to her for ensuring a very fine evening with friends.

I had a business dinner here and the food was very good. For the first course we shared a salad with walnuts, veal meatballs and wonderful roasted sweet onions with Parmesan. I had ricotta gnocchi with wild mushrooms for my main course. The gnocchi were a bit hard but the mix and number of mushrooms was great. We finished with chocolate cake with whipped cream and garnished with delicious candied orange rind. The renowned bread was also good.

We waited over 45 minutes before we got a table. Once we sat down our waiter seemed disinterested in dealing with us. Once our food came it all dissolved. The food was amazing! Worth the wait but maybe not the attitude.

We were looking for a bite to eat and drinks before heading over to our friends' party. We were seated outside on the patio and placed our order for pizzas. We ordered drinks and were served fresh bread and olive oil when suddenly an unexpected downpour began. We jumped up and stood under the entrance awning but our table was soaked within minutes. The poor hostess was trying to find tables indoors for all those affected outside, and the place was packed, so we said we'd sit at the bar. Our pizzas were brought to us there, but it took while for the very busy bartender working alone to get us drinks. The pizzas were tasty... cracker thin and crispy crusts, which we love. We each ordered our own but could've just shared one between us easily. The staff, considering it was packed, did a good job despite the rain. We'd like to try this place again sometime (but inside at a table next time!)

This is a great restaurant to work with for groups!! My groups have always been happy. Thank you Osteria!

Went with colleagues for dinner after work. Thank goodness we had reservations (conference in town). They offered a 3 course prix fix menu which we all went for. It came with about 3 appetizers, one main, and one dessert. The garlic in oil, grilled asparagus, mac and cheese and beets were terrific. The 8 oz filet mignon was perfectly grilled medium. One of the best filet's I have had in a while (they usually overdo it). Highly recommend with prior reservation. The staff were very courteous and the orders came in at a good clip. Can get a little noisy (perhaps they added more tables to accommodate the crowd). Nice ambiance in the main room, with some additional private rooms for bigger groups. It is attached to the Embassy suites.

Incredible fine dining experience. Every member of the staff made us feel at home. The menu was well contemplated and the drinks were exceptional. Excellent choice if you want to enjoy the best this restaurant has to offer!!!

Thoughtful, quality ingredients form the base of this well-executed culinary vision. The thin-crust pizza was pretty much perfect; small plates of olives, roasted garlic and veal meatballs all superb. The chooped, and the celery salad were chilled, super fresh, and really very flavorful. Decent by the glass wine choices, but small-er pours; bottle prices marked up 250-400%, pretty insane.

Lettuce Entertain you restaurants do a great job with this one. The service is excellent. We have eaten here many times because there is quality even though it's owned or operated by Lettuce Entertain You restaurants. Its great place to eat gathering with friends and enjoying quality small plates.

What a delish pizza! Very thin but perfectly cooked and accompanied with some wine! Hidden gem for sure. Deborah, our server was just phonons!

This restaurant is my hands down favorite restaurant in Chicago. I go back again and again, with friends, for business or by myself after a day of shipping and movies. The service is always fantastic, very welcoming and the food is fresh and never disappoints and get the group dining menu and get the house picks of the day... it is worth it.

Osteria via Stato was not what I expected. I don’t mind to pay $60-70 per person, but a restaurant has to make it worth the money. For that amount you can get a good meal in some other places in Chicago. The restaurant smelled weird, bad. We decided to seat outside even if it was a little cold. The service was very good, the server and the busboy were wonderful. It was the food that wasn’t that good. The fried calamari was ok. The mushroom soup was a little greasy. The gnocchi was not to tasty at all. The pizza sausage was a little salty. I am not coming back. Hopefully other people has better experience.

Tried this place for an early dinner as it was close to our hotel. Seated promptly, and attended to in an efficient and friendly manner by our server. My wife felt like a cocktail so we ordered the watermelon daiquiri ($12). More water than melon, however that was the only negative of the dinner. My craft beer was good, the sausage pizza was very good on a crispy, thin crust, and the special (mushroom risotto) was also quite good. A little on the pricey side, but the food tasted fresh and homemade.

Not a bad place. They offered $10/coupon at the hotel so we decided to give it a try. Not too bad. Bread was awesome, salads had a strong celery taste, but overall decent visit.

At 100 degrees Fahrenheit we were happy to get an almost immediate table to enjoy a refreshing dinner. We had home made and crispy pizza and bread with garlic and onions. But do not hope to get Bruscetta, it is just bread and fried garlic, onions and oil. But what really upset me was the fact that my daughter ordered penne without the chicken, a dish for USD 18+, but kindly asked not to do the chicken but just and only the penne. Well, it was possible to do so, but when we received the check the price did not change. So we paid the full amount for half the dish - just penne. Thinking that the US service industry is flexible and pro active, this was a disappointing experience.

We left a somber event, when one of my friends suggested we go for a glass of something. I said, let's try somewhere new. Off to Osteria Via Stato we went, Robert our waiter, and bartender was delightful and fun and attentive. We will return. All it takes is good customer service, a friendly atmosphere and a nice chilled glass of wine...if drinking white!

If you are looking for a great thin crust pizza this is your place. Crust is super thin and each is made for one person. We each had the prosciutto with parmesan, arugula and aged balsamic vinegar. Sooo good! Crust is very crunchy it is so thin. Doesn't leave you with that overfilled feeling. Nice wine list too focused on Italian. Ate outside on the patio, it was really nice. Server was super friendly, fun and attentive. Will go back!

Each trip to Chicago we take the 6 block or so walk from the Renaissance on Wacker to Osteria to enjoy a number of small plates where we are experiment with a number of different items. The place is cozy, you get a nice pour of wine, and an absolute must are the meatballs with outstanding red sauce, then scooping every remnant with their fresh bread. This restaurant is simply a reliable, comfortable place with a diverse mixture of people. Very Chicago!

"Wow" is the best way to describe this energetic Italian eatery. From the wine and cocktail selection to the appetizers and main dishes, this was an experience. A tasty experience. After sampling several appetizers among our group, we settled into our entrees and devoured them all. With our hunger satisfied, we sipped cocktails and/or wine while enjoying the energy pulsing around us.

Very nice and polite waitress with a lot of patients. We were a group of 9 with different demands and the waitress took our order correct with a smile. We all ate half priced pizza on happy hour which was good and price worth but I don’t think it would have been price worth if full priced. We wanted to split the bill and the waitress did her very best. Interior and atmosphere ordinary but with an Italian wibe.

We went here for my husband's birthday. His favorite is Italian food and we had not been here before so we thought we would try it and we were not disappointed. I had the broiled scallops with sweet potato puree and it was excellent. He had the seafood pasta and it too was excellent. We ordered a variety of appetizers and enjoyed them all. We enjoyed the atmosphere too. The only thing I thought interesting is the restrooms were in the hotel so it's a little bit of a walk and you were away from your table for awhile. I would definitely go back.

It’s not cheap but the food is AMAZING! I recommend the filet and also doing the family style. The whole table has to do family style or you all have to do alacarte. You an’t go wrong with family style! (It’s like $40 a person) you pick your own entree and all sides come out family style and you get as much as you want! It is so delicious! Seriously worth it!

The food was good but the place was cold. What's the deal with that? It's hard to have a good time eating when you have to wear a jacket. A watch out for that 3.5% kitchen surcharge and deduct it from the tip.

The Place offers decent quality pizza but overall I would not recommend it and suggest going to Quartino, which is just next door. Service here is extremely slow, our food arrived earlier than our kids' food and quality of food is also lower. Not bad overall but not recommended

This place does not disappoint. The food, the service and the evening were fantastic. Still my favorite pace to take clients and friends for an experience that proves excellent time after time after time. See ya next time!

We ate outdoors and had a nice meal with excellent service. The food was delicious and the restaurant made the outdoors dining enjoyable.

I always dine at Osteria via Stato whenever I am visiting downtown Chicago. The homemade gnocchi and gelato are exquisite. It is my favorite Italian restaurant outside of Italy. I have brought many friends and colleagues to dine here and it has become their fave, too. Buon appetito!

On Christmas eve each year, they do the traditional feast of the seven fishes dinner. The restaurant opens early so you can get reservations from 4 until closing. The dinner costs $59 per person and includes 4 appetizers plus olives, bread, olive oil with roasted garlic, entrée and dessert. The appetizer portion is all you can eat. Appetizers: Bacala spread, Smoked salmon, Calamari, Octopus Entrees: Shrimp and lobster risoto and the sea food stew Dessert was chocolate carmel tart and pana cotta with huckleberries Yummy, Excellent service and super cute and romantic atmosphere. Chicago has a wealth of awesome italian restaurants and this is one of them.

Dined with three colleagues on a Wednesday night at 7p before heading over to Readhead Piano Bar (also recommend - it's directly across the street). Was pleasantly surprised, had planned to dine at Quartino's but they had no availability. I had the Veal Osso Bucco, others had Seafood Stew (2) and Orecchiette Pasta. Everyone thought their food was good, the service was on-point and appropriately paced. We had salads before, the Caesar was very tasty. All portions are generous, but not overwhelming. We also shared a bottle of the Valpolicella which was also quite good and a reasonable price.

First you have to choose between 2 menus before you get seated. Octopus and potatoes were way too oily. Service very slow. Bread is nice. Nice to sit outside.

I ate here with our kids this past weekend but it was a very near miss. After putting our name in, we were told to return in an hour and 10 minutes, which we did after some evening shopping with four hungry boys. When we returned, we were seated at a section that serves only pizza and were told by the hostess that was the only place we could be accommodated. Our four hungry boys were not interested in pizza, nor was their father. Getting up to leave (after being completely ignored for 10 minutes), our waiter caught us and offered to serve us whatever we wanted and so we returned to our table where he made good on his promise. The food was excellent but the service, in spite of our wait staff's good intentions, was inexcusably slow. Will we return? Very unlikely. There are too many stellar eateries, all within a stone's throw of this Osteria, that provide equally good food but with far better service.

Great italian food! Not the best cost benefit but still worth it! Highly recommend for who is visiting chicago!

We were there to celebrate two birthdays yesterday. Food was excellent and I delighted by the excellent service of Josh B. He was extremely professional and attentive. One of the best servers I've had the pleasure of waiting on us. We look forward to visiting again.

This is the 1/2 of the restaurant dedicated to dining, the other half is all pizza. This restaurant is located downtown and accepts reservation, it is labelled "casual italian" by on the meny. There is a dining menu "Dinner Party" at either 39.95/guest or 24.95/guest if not taking a main course but just the "antipasti" (apetizers), "Primi" (usually pasta) and additional vegetables. It is easy to find the PDF of the menu online with a simple search with the name of the restaurant! They do have "gluten free" pasta and some vegetarian option (even if limited.) There are also many items "à la carte" with many choices. The ambiance is very nice, good decoration, friendly staff. This is a "normal" restaurant and it takes time to get things ready - therefore this is not a fast food and therefore the food is well prepared and delicate.

We were here for the weekend, last minute. We were able to get a last minute reservation. What a delight. The food was amazing - beginning with the crusty soft centered bread with perfectly roasted garlic in olive oil and balsamic vinegar- delicious ! Followed by the just primi wine (amazing 3 wines!) selection. We then shared the yummy caprese with locally grown heirloom tomatoes followed by the cavatelli (homemade) with spinach and Italian sausage - just exquisite, next the scallops in an elegant cream lemon sauce. Superb! Mike our waiter guided us and was very attentive. Lovely ambiance. We were not so sure when we arrived seeing connected to a hotel but do not be dissuaded. To top it all off Mike, our fabulous waiter brought us house made chocolate with sugared orange rinds and almonds. Highly recommend!

Have been a number of times over the years. Incredible onions no longer offered. Not enough Italian food options—no veal parmigiana, more steaks than Italian. 1 unisex washroom. Extremely bad for female to follow male who urinates all over the seat. Hated having to clean seat before using washroom. Will never go here again due to the unisex washroom.

My first visit here. With coworkers. We chose the family style dinner. Delicious salad and vegetable antipasti. Delicious pasta and sausage. We each got to choose separate entrees. Seafood stew, filet mignon, chicken, scallops ......all were very good. Great bread and wine too. Superb service.

I visited for lunch yesterday with a friend; neither of us had been to Via Stato before. I was incredibly impressed. The staff was friendly and attentive. (Granted, it was early and the place was mostly empty, but still.) I ordered the penne in tomato cream sauce, and I thought it was out of this world. The portion size was just right. He had the pizza of the month, which involved pears, carmelized onions, and prosciutto; I tried a small piece, and I thought it was really excellent as well. The prices were reasonable as well. I have nothing negative to say. I'll 100% be coming back here.

We happened upon this really terrific restaurant. What a wonderful surprise. The food was excellent, every course (that we split so that we can try many items on the menu) was superb. Nothing was over cooked or under prepared. Delicious flavors, well worth the calories. Mike was a terrific waiter with great knowledge of the menu and sense of humor! We sat In the dining area in the back of the house and it was just right. The noise levels were lower and the attention around service was even better! At the end of a great meal, Mike brought us some of the house made chocolate, with almonds and sugared orange zest. It was terrific cap to the meal.

we ordered from here to pickup, and I swear to god they did not start actually making our food until we got there. We ordered an hour before and waited 20 minutes at the restaurant. At the very least, the food was decent, but if you value your time at all, your better off getting decent italian food elsewhere

This amazing pizza bistro is part of the Italian restaurant and both are amazing. It is located adjacent to the Embassy Suites hotel. They make mozzarella in house and most everything is from scratch. The lunch specials are a true bargain.

Mediocre Italian cuisine, unprepared wait staff, surprisingly pretentious management (“we’ve been doing this for 13 years” was a response to my complaint) and portions so small you’d think you’re at some nouvelle cuisine joint, rather than an Osteria, Italy’s “poor man diner”. Very disappointed. One star for a little ambiance. Vergognatevi!

My wife and I went to the Pizza side of Osteria Via Stato (AKA Pizzeria Via Stato) and had a delicious meal - white wine ($10), shared octopus and potatoes for an appetizer ($15) and a white (no tomato sauce) prosciutto pizza ($17) which was wonderful and very refreshing - thin crust, just the right amount of cheese, prosciutto, arugula, etc. If you like Italian style (very thin) pizzas, this place is the place for you in downtown Chicago! We'll be back for sure

If you like thin and crispy pizza, this place is great. Osteria is combined with a pizza ‘side’ and both menus are available to order though they can’t promise identical delivery because the kitchens are separate. We had the pleasure of dining outside on a beautiful night in Chicago-highly recommended! Our starters included a chopped salad and marinated olives. Both plates were easily gobbled up by our group. Interestingly this Lettuce Entertain You branded restaurant charges for bread since it includes some roasted garlic spread. We opted out so no comment. We enjoyed both sausage and veggie pizzas, about 10” in diameter. While it’s a perfectly reasonable sized portion, it wasn’t hard as an adult to finish up a younger persons unfinished portion. As for the pasta, we had 2 orders of the cavatelli. It was tasty but for $19 definitely was on the smaller side, especially since plates of restaurant pasta tend to be oversized. So maybe this was “right-sized” and we’re just conditioned to expect too much. One person ordered the salmon special of the day. It looked a bit too buttery from my view, and the male who ordered it said he would NOT get it again. All in all, we did agree that we would return! * It’s location is particularly good for guests at Embassy Suites on Ontario/State/Ohio streets, as well as The Escape Game Chicago. Minor challenge-restaurant restrooms are a bit of a hike from Osteria into the hotel the restaurant is housed at on the street level.

This used to be one of our favs in Chicago. But I've noticed major changes happening now that the restrictions have been raised - higher restaurant prices, marginal food quality, and amateur service levels. This place is no exception. The staff is clearly not familiar with customer service, requiring us to repeatedly have to inform the wait staff on passing out the plates and napkins (not just leaving them stacked on our table), refilling water glasses, pouring our wine, when to take orders and asking for status of food, and now charging for bread. Additionally, the food quality was ok at best, given the smaller portions, overcooked veggies, and greasy appetizers. I simply cannot stomach not only the food/dining experience, but paying the exorbitant bill at the end - which now shows how I should be dropping an additional 20-25% for "tip"... Yea, here's a tip that's free... go somewhere else...

Service was marvelous only surpassed by the food. I was with a small group of business associates. One in the group had been the night before and insisted we are go to Osteria Via Strato. Everything we had was perfecto! I'm not going to be any help helping you choose, because I want to go back the next time I'm in Chicago and eat, and eat, and eat.

Osteria Via Stato offers classic Italian dining in archway-enhanced environs with an adjacent Roman-style pizzeria. Located at 620 North State Street, at the corner of Ontario and State, in Chicago's downtown area, its menu features several Italian specialties. There are many Italian restaurants in Chicago that have influences from Tuscany, Rome, Naples and Milan. Osteria Via Stato covers all bases, from Neapolitan pizza to veal osso bucco to house-made gelato to warm ciabatta bread with roasted garlic. My wife and I started with the warm ciabatta bread, veal meatballs, minestrone and classic Caesar salad. My wife couldn't resist the veal osso bucco, a personal favorite that she doesn't find on many menus, while I opted for the roasted beef tenderloin with parmesan crusted onions, sauteed spinach and whipped potatoes. For dessert, we shared three big scoops of house-made burnt caramel gelato. You don't have to be Italian to appreciate a meal like this.

I dined here with my wife and son on November 28, 2019 and Jose was our server. We loved the Eataly in New York so we thought we would give it a try. First let me say we were hoping for a great meal but its just average at best. To start the menu is fairly limited. For the most part you wont find any traditional veal or chicken dishes which led me to to try and have them do me up something special not on the menu. Nope the server basically told me they do not any special dishes on the fly and don't deviate from the menu. So we then started with the chef's cheese board and for entrees my wife the Bronzino fish special, my son ordered pizza and I had the polpette meatballs. Nothing I ate would make me want t go back and the food is just average. Couple that with the fact there are no traditional northern or southern Italian dishes scratches this one off the bucket list and I cant go back. Our bill was $139 not including tip.

Wow, what an awesome dinner my husband and I had here on Saturday night. Not only was it reasonable, but it was delicious as well. The bread that we had to start was super warm and so yummy! I had the White Peach Bellini to drink and my husband had the Sangria. Both were great. For my main dish I had the Penne and the Whipped Potatoes (don’t judge me, I like carbs, k?) and my husband had the Seafood Stew. We loved both dishes (hubs loved mine a bit too much as he ate most of it). For dessert we had the 3 gelato flavors- Vanilla, Burnt Caramel, and Espresso. Loved all 3 flavors but especially the burnt caramel. Service was also fantastic throughout our entire time here. Don’t let the fact that this restaurant is connected to a hotel fool you. This is a quality Italian restaurant and we be back for sure!

Had a late dinner here after arriving to the hotel. The short rib risotto was the special and it was very good. The drinks were what you would expect as far as prices. The waitress made sure to tell us about their reward program and gave us an additional 10% off for downloading the app.

I couldn’t get the rave reviews while dining here. Although I didn’t have much expectations I was still disappointed. I and my partner have had some drinks before heading over and wanted to have a nice comfy pasta night on a Sunday. First of all, it took ages for someone to take the order. Our lady server was really nice but it took a solid 15 minutes after we got water served to get the order. The menu is quite limited. Only four pasta dishes and a risotto. They had a few Second plates but weren’t interested. The only pasta dish that caught my attention was the Cacio e Pepe. Simple but comfy. They had Arrabiata but I wasn’t too keen to it. So we ordered an appetizer to share, pickled beets with ricotta. And two full orders of Cacio e Pepe. Easy does it. It took forever. The beets were good. Then after a long while the pasta dishes arrived. However, two different sized portions. We mentioned it to our server and she looked at us like we were crazy. I wasn’t that hungry so I gave my plate to my partner who had received the small portion. The cacio e Pepe was mehhhh. The one served at Eataly one block down the road is way better. It was way too dry and not that hot. I bet it sat a while after prepared before it was served. Half way through our meal the server advised that a side of the same plate was coming out since she thought that they were right and both plates were sized wrongly. After we had finished such side arrived. We didn’t touch it. Thank you, we appreciated the gesture but there was really no need at that point. Maybe an acknowledgement from the beginning would have been nice. Plates took 20 minutes to be cleared after we finished. Asked for a check. Took a while. Placed my card, took a while. All in all dinner took one hour and 50 minutes for a salad and two pasta dishes. Food was so so. Prices were ok. Service was ok but slow. Everyone seemed to have a role. If I take the order, I don’t clear tables. Maybe wasn’t our night.

I have wanted to visit this place for the last 2 years since our hotel is pretty close. We finally went in and I was not blown away. It was okay food but nothing extravagant. It's close to a lot of hotels but I would still prefer to travel a little further for better food. The service was very god. The waiter was very attentive and polite.

First time in this restaurant because it is closed for lunch. We have eaten many times at Pizzeria via Stato. Good selection especially the cold cuts, cheeses and desserts: delicious chocolate tart. The waiter was very attentive and frequently refilled our glasses of Bellinis. We would go back if in Chicago on Sunday.

Located in the embassy suites hotel on the main floor. Very nice ambience and great service. Food is excellent and also offers vegetarian and gluten free menus if needed. Would highly recommend.

This is my 2nd time dining and the food was fantastic both times. Today I returned with my family and as we were seating my 1 year old daughter in her high chair, we noticed broken glass on the table and she began to play with it. And there was also a huge piece under the bread plate. Obviously alarmed, we moved her immediately and they came and cleaned it up and quickly apologized. Something major like that, I expected a manager to come over, check in and make sure she was ok, maybe offer us a free drink or appetizer for the scare? Nope, nobody did. We left scratching our heads after that experience, they had a chance to do some service recovery and didn't....probably won't be back.

they're too big for personal size but nice burnt crust. easily enough for 2 regular humans. cheap, too

Excellent authentic italian food and decor and atmosphere. Service very good but maybe a little too quick. We would happily go again.

As a LEYE (Lettuce Entertain You) restaurant I'm used to varying standards from exceptional to ok. We have eaten at Pizzeria Via Stato and It was ok (attached to this restaurant) but this was quite a step up and the service was great, the food excellent, and the pace satisfying but not rushed. The food was great and of a caliber higher than I expected. The wine list is expansive and intriguing. This was a satisfying experience all around.

Three of us had dinner there this past Sunday. As mentioned by others we enjoyed the fresh bread with roasted garlic. Gnocchi were definitely made fresh that day and melted in your mouth. We also enjoyed the flavor of the various sauces we encountered on the veal meatballs, ziti, and gnocchi. Definitely worth visiting this restaurant.

Had a company event in the private room. Everything I ate was fantastic and the service was sublime. Make sure you end the evening with a limoncello!

We were allowed to order from a select menu...everybody found something they liked. I had the braised short ribs which were excellent! Other had the white fish or the chicken breast entrée. I do not know if anybody selected the vegetarian option. The veal meatballs were excellent! We were served broccoli and potatoes with our entrees and they were refilled several times. Dessert was chocolate tart...just the right size.

This restaurant is located in the Embassy Suites - Downtown Chicago. They provide room service to the hotel, and have a fun restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. We had a pizza. The crust was very thin, like a cracker...and the pizza was delicious!

A late breakfast/brunch could not tide me over until a 9 PM dinner so I dropped by for happy hour in their bar (also in their pizzeria section). This is a beautiful establishment, done up in dark wood! Draft beer for $5 including Peroni (of course) and Stella Artois but I opted for Anti-Hero IPA from local microbrewery Revolution. While there was supposed to be complimentary anti-pesto, I went for the tavern sized (share or individual) Margherita pizza which was thin, crisply and absolutely delicious. It was so thin, I was amazed at how it remained so rigid rather than sag! The pizza was square-cut for tavern/happy hour sharing ... but there would be none of that today!! Seriously, this was the best Margherita pizza that I have had since Paris, a small pizza cafe near the University by a native of Milan. The Cubs game was a nail-biter that went into a couple of extra innings so a second Revolution draft was in order. My compliments to friendly and jovial bartender Alberto who was also my server at the bar, the cheerful hostess who greeted me and set me up at the gorgeous wooden bar, and the pizza chef who manned the fire oven!

I took my boyfriend for his birthday & we did the family style. AMAZING! So much food and all of it was sooo good. We left so full but extremely satisfied. That was my 2nd time there and I love seeing how the menu changes every season. Seriously the best restaurant. Can't wait to go back.

Came to Osteria Via Stato for my wife's birthday dinner while visiting Chicago with our two teenaged daughters. We used to live in Chicago and this is our must-do stop (besides Chicago pizza of course). We started with calamari and brussels sprouts, both were tender and delish. Asparagus was in season, and wife ordered asparagus risotto (off menu, thanks chef!). Our Vegetarian daughter had nice choices and had a ceasar salad, and rustic pasta tossed with oil. Other daughter had veal saltimbocca, excellent. But I was the winner, with shrimp and lobster risotto, which tasted rich and buttery in creamy risotto. A special callout for our server Mark. He brought out our gelato dessert with a Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate for my wife. He also had great recommendations from the menu when the we had questions. He made it a special night in one of our special places.

My wife and I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and a draft Peroni lager, and had the bread with roasted garlic, balsamic and extra-virgin olive oil for an appetizer and shared a sausage pizza upon the recommendation of our waiter. Everything tasted amazing, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was perfect for my wife and I to share a romantic evening together! We'll plan to dine there again! Props to Reggie at the HGI, Grand Ave., for a great recommendation!

I’d walked by this place many times, but it was in the Hilton and so I assumed it would be expensive and mediocre. Finally, on the advice of a friend, I went. Really glad I did. The restaurant is a very casual, family feeling restaurant. Menu is very straight-forward classic Italian dishes. Service is great. Very warm. Staff is knowledgeable and efficient. Food is very well prepared. Portions are pretty large. The restaurant also has a nice wine list. Seemed a little pricey, but not outrageous. Definitely recommend this restaurant and will return.

Dark wood and candlelight add ambiance to this casual pizzeria and bar on the street level of the Embassy Suites Hotel. We had the Chopped Salad w chicken ($12.95) and the Margherita Pizza ($12.95) w sausage ($4). The salad was big enough for a meal or for two to split, then share a pizza. The pizza is very, very thin, and light, with crispy edges, about 12". If you just ordered the pizza, it would serve one person. With two people sharing the salad and a pizza it was a moderately light meal. The caramel gelato dessert was very flavorful and worth trying. The dessert menu is worth listening to even if you don't want dessert. The descriptions are almost like having a little bite of each one. Stella draft $6.95 Espresso $3.95 Caramel gelato $3.95 Service was prompt, polite and efficient. The pizza and salad were fresh and delicious. The bread was crusty, yet tender, served with oil. The desserts seemed creative. I would return and/or recommend this place.

Beautiful place. In the heart of Chicago. We sat in the patio outside. Foir was ecxellent & our server Jhon is wonderful he explained the menu and recommended the chicken dish for my husband which was fabulous. The desert is very delicious. I got the Italian Berry Gelato. Thank you for a wonderful evening we will definitely come back again

We took the advice of our tour guide earlier in the day and tried this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The appetizers to the main courses are delicious! The pasta dishes are excellent We finished it off with best ever Gelato If you get the chance be sure to check out Osteria

This restaurant has two parts, the pizzeria and the osteria. The pizzeria is much more casual and the other more refined. We had children as part of our party so the pizzeria was perfect. We were staying at the embassy suites and this was extremely convenient. We went on both Friday and Saturday and had a reservation both nights which was needed. As far as the food goes the menu on the pizzeria side is limited. 4-5 starters, 4-5 pizzas, and 4 entrees. It was sufficient for our purposes. We had our 11 month old which was not an issue. We shared a bunch of items. Starters the burrata, octopus, and veal meatballs. All were good. I may have wanted some flake salt on the burrata but it was good. The pizzas are small and thin and probably for one person for a meal or 2 people to share as a starter. I had the penne pasta with chicken which was pretty good. Cocktails and wine were good as well. Our server the first night was great. We saw him again the second and he was part of the team the was assigned to or table. We actually had 3 servers who shared taking orders the 2nd night which was a bit odd. We ordered 3 starters from one server and only 2 came out, and then we asked the 2nd server about it and took her a while to get back us that it was sent to the kitchen and she had to do it after the fact. Not that big of a deal but enough to notice. The others issues we had was dessert. We are the 3 different scoops of gelato which were relatively small scoops but were all significantly melted when delivered to the table. Then the hostess of the first night. We were about 10min late, 5:25P for a 5:15P reservation. I walked up to the hostess and wasn’t greeted, no “hello”, no “good evening”, no “may I help you”. Just stares at me. I said I had a reservation and the response was “is everybody here?” 3 of 4 were and we were seated. It was just a cold reception at a restaurant. Based on that experience, the melted dessert and multi-server experience on Saturday i went 4/5. However I would recommend based on convenience if staying at the embassy suites and if you have small children. They were very accommodating.

First, this place is loud with tables packed closely together yet comfortable. If you want a quiet conversation, this is not the venue. We thoroughly enjoyed the small plates. The pancetta pizza was delicious. Service was good. I felt it was somewhat overpriced.

I was on a business trip and ate here 3 times while there. The food was absolutely delicious, a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. The waiter we had all three times was excellent and well versed in the food options.

We loved this place. The pizza is the best thin pizza, the arugula salad and the pasta were delicious too, service excellent!

The appetizers were very good but the entrees were very salty. The waiter never asked how our dinner was. We've eaten there a couple of times in the past but this time it was very disappointing.

We had amazing food here. For appetizers, we had Parmesan Crusted Sweet Onions and Veal Meatballs. You must order the sweet onions. They are to die for and the meatballs are delicious too. Our table enjoyed the Farro Risotto and the Short Ribs as entrees. Both were incredibly delicious. We can't complain about anything we experienced during our visit.

I only gave it 3 stars because of the bar area and not the dining area where I would have given it 5 stars because our server Rick L. was gracious .Last night I was meeting a friend at Osteria Via Stato and sat in the bar area waiting for her. The server lady was rude , and asked me several times if I was going to order an alcoholic beverage . I told her, I was waiting for a friend . She then asked me again before my friend arrived, and I told her the same thing , I was waiting for a friend and asked her to bring some bread. She was rude and said if I was not ordering an alcoholic beverage I could not have the bread and brought it anyway. When my friend arrived , the server asked if we were ordering an alcoholic beverage. I told her I do not drink alcohol and my friend just sat down , so we will wait to order. I told my friend , We can't eat the bread unless we order a drink. This server was so rude , I was really upset by her behavior, so I have made an open table reservation and proceeded to the hostess to say we would like to sit in the dining room. In the mean time I went to ask the bartender a question , and when I got back to the table , my friend said the strangest thing just happened. Another employee came to ask her , why is your friend taking to the bartender . Well one , its none of his business , who I talk with . We were then seated in the dining area , and was graciously welcomed by server Rick L. who was absolutely perfect in every way. We told him what happened in the bar area and asked to speak with the manager. Soon comes towards our table , The employee who asked my friend why I was talking with the bartender , just happened to be the manager Evan . To our surprise and shocked , he justified why he asked her , and was not sincere and quite rude and never did try and make it right and never apologized and walked away like he was right and we were wrong. Although , we both love the food at this Lettuce Entertain You restaurant, and bring a lot of business to this establishment in Chicago and even bring a large group on Christmas eve every year , The manager Evan, his rudeness towards us may change our mind , about dining some where else. I have been a member of the Lettuce Entertain You rewards program for some time now and I hope this situation with the manager Evan , no one will have to ever speak with him , he is no help at all, and he needs to accommodate every guest in the most respectful way and not ruin this restaurant with his uncaring behavior.

Another great meal at Osteria. Not only is the food fantastic but the staff is 100% kind, caring and concerned about my family having a great time. Our server was excellent, there when we needed him, but not intrusive at all. He had great suggestions and added needed input to our menu suggestions. Manager was super friendly, making his way from table to table checking on everyone's meals. It's nice when the manager actually makes the rounds and interacts with the guests. Cocktails were unique and strong - no watered drinks at Osteria. The seasonal cranberry mule was our hands down favorite. Food was all excellent - prosciutto & mozzarella appetizer has a ton of prosciutto, bread and cheese. Almost a meal in itself. Seafood stew was savory, rich and full of fresh seafood. What a great tomato-y sauce. Pastas were rich and creamy and the table favorite was the arrabiata. Mashed potato side item was so rich - - it was the best!!! Some interesting desserts - - the chocolate bar comes with candied orange peel and nuts - - they break up the candy bar and you it all together. Fun and tasty! Definitely a great restaurant. We will definitely visit again. A+

During my Chicago visit I went here three times People and management are great and really check on you! Nice choice of drinks and beer. Food is so good Make a reservation as others know and you want to get in

We had our daughters rehearsal dinner here! What a treat! Katherine, Natalie and Allison are pros! Our servers were the best. Attentive and patient! Would recommend this place for anything! Food was superb..service amazing! Thank you team!

Have eaten here on two separate visits - once ate in-house and the second time got the food to-go...both times the food was absolutely delicious. Service was great, and the price was reasonable.

Connected to Embassy Suites we didn’t expect much but stopped in as room was made up. Wow. Terrific, repeat, terrific bartender and cook. Best Aperol or Camapari spritz outside Italy. Wife is a burrata fan. Toast and burrata were excellent. A real gem. Good service food and nice people. Will definitely return.

This atmospheric Italian-themed restaurant also serves inspired food, and lots of it. While we were a large group with a mostly-fixed multi-course menu already selected, each of the dishes was perfectly prepared, exciting and generous. From the salads to the pastas to the grilled meats, things went from great to fantastic. The buzz in our room increased with each course. Of course the free-flowing wine helped with that too, but we all went away more than satisfied, with the little smile that comes from a spotless experience.

First, let me say that this was about the 10th time we have dined at this restaurant. Until tonight, it was one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the city. Tonight, something was very off. To begin with, there was only 1 valet attendant and he was overwhelmed. We sat for 30 min waiting for him to take our car. Very nice man who hustled his butt off but just couldn't keep up. We were seated and ordered our dinner. We usually enjoy the prix fixe dinner and have always enjoyed it in the past. Tonight the service was just off.. Our waiter was nice but inefficient and the bus boy kept leaning over us to grab our appetizer plates and forks before we could finish the course. Our dinner took forever to get to us. It was busy but not that busy. We had to get going and had to wolf down our main course in 5 minutes since it took so long to get to us. Needless to say, it was not an enjoyable dinner. We hardly saw the waiter during our dinner but the bus boy hovered all night. I don't know if they were short tonight but this needs to be remedied before this place goes down the tubes. I doubt we will go back any time soon since there are so many other choices in the city. I'm hoping it was just a glitch tonight but we shall see..

An interesting Italian style pizza with a very crispy thin crust, all baked in a wood-fired oven. Truly delicious and with very friendly waiters.

I’m doing a cross country trip as the US reopens and our first night was in Chicago. We found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and it was close to our hotel. So glad we did. Osteria Via Stato was FANTASTIC! Fortunately, we got a reservation. The service was spot on, the staff super friendly and the food perfecto. All of this on the third night after reopening.

Simple Italian food without any wow. Everything we tried was decent but nothing to remember. there are 2 Rooms the one in the front serves pizza but the back isn't. Actually the front room is called pizzeria via stable but they are using the same entrance. professional service and kozy atmosphere.

We have always loved this restaurant which serves authentic Italian food with local ingredients. We shared the mixed greens salad with cherries, walnuts and shaved Grana. So delicious. My husband had the special pizza which included sausage, rapini, smoked mozzarella, spicy peppers and red onions. He completely loved it. I had the braised short ribs and scooped up every drop of the red wine sauce with a spoon. My mashed potatoes possibly had enough butter to cause a heart attack. Definitely worth the risk. Our server Margo was the best of the best and we will ask for her when we return.

The staff here were so lovely and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and the restaurant had a great ambience. The food was delicious, I really enjoyed the gnocchi and my husband had the chicken special. The portions weren’t overly large, which we like as then you don’t feel stuffed at the end of the meal! We didn’t have desert but the options all looked tasty.

The staff here make a real effort. Food is a little mixed - initially tasty but then you realise it is just greasy and not very subtle. I wouldn't recommend it.

thought that it was a really good place to eat, but surprisingly I didn't considered it a very good place neither do my family. We went there because we were staying at the hotel but never came back again.

We ordered take out from our hotel and the service was friendly and fast. We enjoyed the hand-made pizza.

Everything was wonderful and the waiters were very attentive. I had the Farro and it was so rich and creamy! Salad was great and bread was delightful.

This a good restaurant with classy ambience. Food is above average but affordable. Place is busy during rush hour until late night, especially on Saturday. The service is very fast, and we didn’t have to wait. They have a good bar as well. Staffs are very attentive to our needs and very knowledgeable about their menu. It is close to magnificent mile and nearby attractions.

I can't wait to write this review especially given what I just found out (hint: it's about straws!)! My friend and I visited Osteria/Pizzeria Via Stato on January 3rd of 2019. The osteria part appeared closed, so we got seated in the smaller area by the front bar. The place was not busy at all! As we were sitting down, the server came to take our order. I asked for a rum/fruit juice drink, I wanted something with an island vibe. He cut me off abruptly and said they didn't have such drinks there. To that I replied that all he needed was some rum and some fruit juices and a creative bartender. He seemed to take offense a bit and replied (with an attitude!!!) that he was a bartender also (well, obviously not a very good one). That's the least of the issues so far. So, I got my rum drink and made sure to tell the server how much I liked it multiple times! Not that it was anything too good actually, I wanted to show appreciation for him/the bartender going the extra mile to make a drink that was not on the menu. My friend was not ready for a drink yet and asked for an iced tea with a straw. The server told her right away that they did not offer straws anymore. Not only that, but he told my friend that the WHOLE CITY passed an ordinance and no straws were allowed anywhere since the beginning of 2019! I just checked and I can't seem to find an ACTIVE ORDINANCE! Not only that , he tried to shame her for wanting a straw, which posed a grave danger to marine life (I agree and did say the same thing to my friend, but who the hell was he to shame his customers and possibly lie to them!!). As a matter of fact, if restaurants cleaned their glasses better (and yes, I DID work as a server/bartender for years!), my friend might not have asked for a straw! So, he repeatedly denied her a straw, things were getting heated, and finally he told my friend he would check if they had "kid's straws". He came back with a paper straw (AND TONS OF ATTITUDE!). So, long story short, I had TWO adult beverages, my friend had an iced tea followed by a glass of wine, we shared two appetizers because we weren't too hungry and tried to catch up on life - we had not seen much of each other for months. The whole time, the attitude-bearing server kept coming back and asking if we wanted this or that as if he were not happy with either the fact that we were not consuming more or that we stayed there too long. Before we ordered the second round of beverages, he came to the table with the bill in his hand (wasn't even trying to conceal it!) and asked if that would be all for us. We were not ready to leave and as we were making the decision to have another drink, he was already slightly extending his arm to place the bill on the table. That was interrupted by us ordering another round of drinks, so he took the bill away. Not for long though! When my friend's glass was still half-full he returned with the bill again (we didn't ask for it!) and plenty more attitude! I would somewhat understand his rushing us out of there (practically, that was what it felt like) given we were there for a while and if the restaurant was busy and tables were needed! I have attached a picture of how empty the place was when he brought us the second bill!! Plenty of empty tables! Why were we being rushed out? And why was my friend denied a straw when paper straws were available? And did he lie that the whole city had just banned them? I have checked, no such ordinance has come into effect YET! My fiancee and I considered Osteria via Stato as a potential venue for our wedding! We came in the summer, were given a tour, package options, etc. I did still consider it actually because the premises are beautiful and I am European, so the rustic Italian charm (which, by the way, can also be seen in many European countries) really spoke to me and made me feel like home. After this past experience though, not only won't I ever recommend this place to any of my friends and acquaintances, but I would DEFINITELY not consider it as a wedding venue anymore! And drop the attitude!

On our way to the Chris Rock concert, we ate dinner at Osteria Via Stato. Although this restaurant is part of the LetUsEntertainU chain, it does not serve "chain" food. We had some of the best Italian food in Chicago that night. We began our meal with a bowl of Orange-Rosemary Marinated Olives. To die for! My husband selected the Beet Salad while I chose the Panzanella Salad. Both of us were impressed with the freshness and quality ingredients -- Delicious! I then selected a half order of Casareccia and my husband ordered the Tagliatelle. Both were amazing dishes. We also had alerted our waiter that we were headed the concert and he made sure our meal was served and completed in time.

Really nice Italian place. I had a pasta with pesto sauce that was good. If you are not too hungry I recommend you to order a side portion of pasta. I even found that large. The waiter was really nice, and she suggested us a good bottle of wine that was not too expensive. It's a good place for a date or for dinner with friends. They take reservations!

On 6/14/2019, we dined with 2 friends (party of 4). Two of us had the Veal Saltimbocca ($28), one had the Chicken Mario ($20), and the fourth had creekstone farms all-natural short rib ($25). The prices were very reasonable! We started with cacio e pepe ($17) for the table, said to be the best way of judging a restaurant's pasta....perfectly cooked. Every dish was excellent! For dessert, we split the house-made bittersweet chocolate bar (with toasted almonds, candied orange) ($4), and I had an affogatto ($7). While the affogatto was nice, I particularly enjoyed the chocolate bar and candied orange. (Yes, they're part of the 5% of the world who spell affogatto instead of affogato ... I have no idea which is preferred :) The service was excellent (thanks, Jason!)

The wait staff was very pleasant and helpful, the food was delicious but warning! It's very pricey for the amount of food you get. I had the short rib with red wine sauce on mash potatoes it was good. But, it was barely any potatoes or sauce on the plate, I had to ask for more sauce. I had burnt carmel gelato for desert. It was excellent but again a very small scoop. I guess I was paying $42 for the location.

We ordered from the Italian Dinner Party section of the menu. Antipasto and primi were served family style and included roasted carrots, white bean crostini and arugula and fennel salad. We chose seafood stew and Italian sausage risotto. We could not eat all of the food offered. We will come again and probably order from the dinner menu and maybe have room for dessert!

Dinner of Chicken Mario with a glass of chianti classico was good and fun. Well worth another visit.

We arrived just before room service (provided by this restaurant to rooms in the Embassy Suites) closed. We ordered chicken tenders and a meatball sub and 2 glasses of wine. After it was delivered, we discovered that we had NO napkins or silverware. We were so tired from a coast to coast delayed flight, that we ate with our fingers and used tissues for napkins. The wine was quite expensive @ $15 a glass. Hotel awarded us an extra 10,000 points for the problem. With fees this was an expensive dinner @$70.

Did not expect this experience from a restaurant tucked inside a big brand hotel. Good selections, excellent food and an outstanding staff. Formula for success. What I liked best; wine selections, pizza and an amazing chocolate torte with candied orange peel.

Date night had us exploring another Lettuce Entertain You establishment to our happy delight. As we both love Italian food we picked this country-style decor restaurant/pizzaia just off the Magnificent Mile. Our personable/ knowledgeable server, Tristan made everything so easy with the “Famous Italian Dinner Party, special. All we had chose was our main course: scallops, chicken or tenderloin. He did -outdid himself - with the rest. This was a gourmet’s delight from the three antipasti start to mouth watering primo course - wonderful gnocchi and award winning (quality) tiramisu. In between the feast we enjoyed the best aged tenderloin with Barolo risotto either of us had ever eaten, perfectly prepared and presented without drama, as the food spoke volumes. Jeff the manager earned an earful of praise for providing our date night with gastrointestinal memories we will not forget - but may try an repeat on another special night.
Great brunch!
We were in town last weekend for a college graduation and family time. We made reservations at Osteria Via Stato based on other TripAdvisor reviews, and were not disappointed! Our table of 5 was ready for us when we began. Our server Rick L was outstanding! The buffet had great items...pork orchiette pasta, omelet station, prime rib, salmon, French toast, bacon, chocolate covered strawberries, maple peppered bacon...all of it was great! We will definitely go back for a meal the next time we are in town! If their Mother's Day brunch was that good, I'm sure their regular menu is as good or better! Thank you for making our visit a great experience!
