Avoid

We actually drove here from downtown San Diego for our Outback fix.. big mistake. We were seated quickly be waited 10 minutes to even see our waitress, not a good sign. We ordered chicken wing and drinks. The wings were out quickly... but not done. They were pink and bloody and our waitress was missing again... We flagged down another server and sent the health hazard wings back.. We ordered our meals and were surprised to hear we could not add shrimp to a steak dinner without paying full price for a shrimp dinner (clueless waitress). A manager came out and apologized for the wings and said "I guess you want your wings well done" I told him one did not order chicken like a steak, that chicken was cooked to temp not by doneness.. He hurried off.. The new wing arrived and were actually done. Our steaks followed quickly. My wife had ordered a fillet, to our surprise she had a sirloin on her plate. We asked the waitress to see the manager again. We told him of the steak mistake and was told nope that's just a thin sirloin. We really could do nothing but laugh, this thin flat steak was maybe a quarter of an inch thick, my wife said glad I didn't ask you to butterfly it.. (clueless manager) My wood fire Delmonico came out original, I decided just to eat it as as.. it was overcooked for medium and with about double the amount of rub usually found on Outback steaks.. All in all one of the worst examples of customer service I have ever seen anywhere. This Outback needs some new leadership asap!

Casual and Good

By gabecasta |

The service was good and so was the food. There wasn't anything exceptional about the restaurant I'm not sure why they are always promoting their onion rings perhaps it is the display. I had a good experience but there was nothing to make me want to go again.

Disgusting food that cost a fortune to eat

By Cherrie B |

First the hostess hardly greeted us. She seem annoyed that we were there. Second the service was just terrible. We hardly even saw the waitress. Third the food was horrible and it cost us $70. We ordered steak that look like it was made for a small child to eat. It wasn’t even hot. But it took so long to get our food we didn’t want to send it back. I would not recommend going here!

Great Steak for meat lovers!

By Chester D |

What great food they have there, but in Cali at 7:00pm everything is busy but we sat on the patio that was enclosed and heated. the service was the only complaint I have about it. They were all so nice but couldn't remember things or that you were even there. Aside from a little bad service the food was awesome and I would go back again.

The Clairemont location is much better.

By WeBJamman |

This place just could not get the temperature right on my meal. I had to send it back twice, and when the cook came out and apologized and brought me a third try, it was still terrible! Eeek! The Clairemont location gets it right every time. Their wedge salad was also subpar. It's at a mall, though, so I can't be too critical, but the food was just not even edible. I only went to that location once and will never go back. The drinks were awful, too, or I should say drink, singular, because they couldn't get that right either. Yuck!

Graduation dinner

By Eladia H |

We came right after my graduation and thought this is a nice place. The food taste was ok but definitely overpriced when the sauce werent that great. Customer service was great! You can say thats the only thing we liked from that place. We ordered Salman and got a small little piece with some broccoli on the side which obviously wasn't enough to be called a meal and expect to fill someone up and to top it all off even though it was the smallest plate it was the most expensive one. I don't think ill be coming here again...

we just love the outback

By Navigator30253 |

Exceptional Outback Experience!

By piper a |

Our waiter was great! The manager even visited our table,to confirm our order on something they wanted to be clear on. The food was phenomenon. Try those new wings with the secret spices,to die for... The steak was cooked as ordered.

Good honest steakhouse

By topcat630 |

I ended up visiting 3 times on my visit to San Diego (both the Mission Valley and the one a bit further North). It has an unpretentious , booth style layout. You can either sit at the bar or in a booth. Service was great and the food actually very good indeed. I had the seared tuna starter, shrimps in cocunut, ribeye steak and burgers (not all on the same visit..) All were excellent. My only compaint was that on no occassion did I have room left for a dessert. Also rather annoyingly they put the calorifc content on the menu:( If I am in town again, I will definitely go there again.

Average Meal

By noteatinghere |

We had an early dinner on Monday & were very disappointed with the meals. It must be the bad economy as the portions were small for the price of what was paid for the meal. We will not be going back, we can get a better meal at Black Angus

A cheesecake too far

By Andy K |

A friend and I visited here recently looking for a meal where we could watch the football. First thing - they don't take reservations but you are able to join an online wait list. The web based wait list predicts your waiting time too. Very useful. Just be sure you can arrive within a set amount of time. We sat at the bar in the outdoor part of the restaurant* from where we had no problem watching the game. There are TV screens strategically placed around the walls but it's not a sports bar so many of the tables don't have a view. It was busy but the service and the food were both still good. It's not a cheap restaurant so check out the menu before going (it worked out around $60 between two of us for two mains / two drinks and one dessert). From memory I had a burger and baked potato both of which were good. Their wine is relatively expensive ($11 for 12 oz?) but the pour generous. And lastly I had the cheesecake which was a mistake. Don't get me wrong. It was delicious but it was HUGE and I left (after forcing myself to eat it all!) feeling bloated and slightly unwell. If you are a cheesecake fan then perhaps get one to share. *During our second visit they had closed the outdoor bar because the air conditioning couldn't deal with the heat

Great steaks, sides and salad

By swissbraziliancouple |

We had a perfectly grilled Ribeye with Mac&Cheese. The iceberg salad was also delicious. if you don't like to be at the tourist places and maybe pay much more for a less tasty steak, then Outback is a very good address for that. I would definitely go there again. Well done, guys!

Great food, service and prices once again

By paulhuntterry |

As British visitors to the US, the Outback Steakhouse is one of the chains of restaurants we depend on for a repeatable good experience. We like to mix new experiences (not always positive) with dependable chains that can offer good food at reasonable prices, and the Outback almost always delivers. Service was friendly and efficient, which was impressive given how busy the Outback was during our meal. Food was to the usual high standard, I enjoyed my large Rib Eye steak while my wife had prime rib. There's not much in the way of presentation but the Outback is about tasty food with good size portions. This visit did nothing to change our positive opinion of the Outback Steakhouse, so we will be looking forward to our next visit.

Overpriced deception of TV ad

By bmateus44 |

Went to this restaurant based on TV ad. Was told does not apply since that is a "corporate ad". Ordered menu item for $4 more than TV ad. Food was cold and steak was sinewy and tasteless.. Crab cake was awful. Part of one order was served incorrectly and remainder of meal was done by the time the correct small portion of order was delivered. Personnel were everywhere but service was poor. Will not go back.

First Outback in years

By CdR |

A welcome return to Outback, after not visiting US regularly for about 16 years. Must have had an image makeover, not as rustic as I recalled and now more polished and corporate. Onto the service, seated after 25 mins wait, exactly as promised, greeted well by our friendly server who helped explain various choices and options. We both went for the fillet Mignon steaks, opting for best quality. Beforehand tried some boneless chicken wings that were ok, but more coating than chicken! Our steaks were very nice, not the best I’ve had but certainly between good and very good quality, at $27 a lot more affordable than the so-called exclusive prime steakhouses that make up the volume of downtown restaurants. This Outback is handily placed at the shopping centre so eat, shop etc in one place. On,y a 15 minute drive from our hotel at the yacht harbour. Very good service from Jonathan and overall, very satisfying.

Waiter great very slow kitchen

By David D |

Very pricey. Few options for non gluten. Very slow kitchen staff. Burgers no flavor except smothered in mustard and raw onions. Vegetables on menu not available. Sweet potato good but really small. Save your money keep walking.

My regular date location

By Cece D |

My all time favourite steak house has to be Outback Steakhouse in my home town. It’s my favourite place to go for a meal. The New York strip is one of the best steaks to try. No matter where I travel to I always end up at one of the many outback steakhouses around the states. Great service, brilliant food.

Yummy Steaks

By ROSE B |

The last time I was there, I just had a great time with my friends. The food I had was awesome. Had a great table too.

Nice steak eating

By Tuurtje75 |

In the outback steakhouse chain its for Europeans always nice to eat a steak dinner. The famous blooming onion dish was too salt this time, have eaten better onions before. Blue cheese pecan salad was very good this time, good flavor, the well prepared bone-in ribeye made the dinner complete. For European standard portions are still quite big. The outback chain defenitely not top of the line, but delivered a decent steak. Absolutely no complain on the very pleasant service. Conclusion: Eating steak dinner with good price/value.

friendly staff

By Teresa Y |

when all other places were crowded we decided outback! glad we chose here, staff was top notch and very friendly! food was great and cooked just the way we liked it

Coming back for more...

By ben s |

This was our first visit to San Diego but certainly not our first to try Outback Restaurant. Outback is my GF's favorite restaurant and my GO TO restaurant to take her on her birthday. I tried the PARMESAN-HERB CRUSTED CHICKEN dish for the first time and she tried her favorite,GRILLED CHICKEN ON THE BARBIE. I was quite hungry and would have preferred a bigger portion. The food and service was just we expected. We also tried a couple of mojitos which were not as impressive as the food. I recommend you call ahead for reservation as we did.

Reyna is the worst manager ever

By james H |

Ive never been to an outback where evey week and every month you have to train new staff every week because you fire or had people quit. Any other restaurant sure but outback steakhouse no... She has horrible people skills horrible customer service and as a boss she is constantly caught up in gossip and bringing up staffs personal life into work conversations threatening daily that staff will lose their job if they ever forget to bring a straw out with a glass of water again... Fear is the constant high tension work environment. No one wants to tell the boss they messed up because she does not easily forget the last mistake u made six months ago if u put up with her cowshizza that long #FireMeAlready

A great server made this dinner even better

By drretire |

This review is mostly about our server, ALEXIS. We had seated ourselves at the bar and then couldn't find a server to help us. Alexis kept walking by and telling us that our server was very busy and would arrive ASAP. That didn't happen and Alexis volunteered to take our order to keep us happy. She was so delightful that we promised her that we would write this review about her. She made the evening wonderful and even though Lindsey, our actual waitress was good, Alexis was terrific. Oh, the food is always good at Outback. I had a Ribeye and my wife had a NY Strip Steak. Add a salad and Australian fries and it was a perfect meal. The entire bill was $50- a real winner.

Good food

By Michelle S |

We had good food. All had steaks. Servos was good and quick. Restaurant located in the mall but on the back side near target.

Quality of food and price are the best!

By Geralyn S |

Went there with an old friend I hadn't seen for awhile. Had a burger and salad, probably one of the best in town! Made with sirloin!! Enjoyed it so much, just took my son back yesterday. Was there for Happy Hour and got to enjoy their $4 appetizers too. Popcorn shrimp and ahi...yummy!

Good service and food

By 458debbia |

Have been to several Outback steakhouses and this one has been consistently good - life the salad and the desserts. The wood grilled steaks are great and the coconut shrimp is decent. Always love their bread. The kids have always enjoyed their steaks. Service can be a little slow at times but usually friendly and attentive.

Very Good Steakehouse

By kdoi2017 |

We enjoyed good steake of filet mignon and French onion soup with beer and wine. People were very nice and was not crowded to our suprise.

Food was good

By Jim T |

4 of us stopped by for dinner around 530 pm and were seated right away. We asked for a booth and was led to one near the bar, when we sat down we realized it was a smaller booth and asked for a larger one on the dining room floor. Although there were some available, we were told there were none. Although the staff was quite friendly and pleasant, it seemed to take awhile to get our orders and served. The serving sizes (entree and salad) were smaller than I remembered. The meal was good but for the price I think I'll pass next time.

Mission Valley Outback

By Cyndi C |

Dinner for two for under $50! An very good! The tilapia was cooked right and the bloomin onion was great. Service was very good.

Wow ! Great food, good prices

By Limor P |

We got a recommendation about this place from the hotel. It was great, reasonable price, big course, nice stuff. We will come back soon.

Favorite Steak House

By BTPI |

This is one of our favorite steak houses for a wonderful meal on every single visit. They have huge portions of great food served with a smile.

Great steaks for reasonable prices

By nadojeff |

We think that this is the best steak for the money if you do not want to do the Donovan's, Morton's, Ruth Chris route. The salads and sides are fresh and good sized. We have tried most of the other items, such as ribs, fish, etc, and all of them are pretty high quality. Expect to wait in line.

Service is extremely SLOW 10’ to find a server, 25’ to get a beer, Food ok. But you need patience, no hunger and plenty of time.

HOLD THE SALT, PLEASE!

By BRENDA W. |

This restaurant is located in Mission Valley Shopping Center and we stopped in after shopping for the advertised $15.99 Steak & Lobster. It turned out to be $18.99. Seems California Outbacks charge more. The lobster was very small, split and grilled - but it was tasty. Either the lobster or the dipping butter was very salty (I poured the butter over the lobster so I couldn't tell which had too much salt) -- too salty for my taste -- but maybe that's how they eat it downunder. The small steak was cooked perfectly but also too salty. (Too much salt brought the rating down to a 3.) Because I got a potato with my meal, I had to purchase a salad. The coffee was freshly brewed (and I would give them 5 stars on the taste of the coffee)! We came early for dinner at 4:00 p.m. (so there were few diners in the restaurant). Service was excellent and I'd rate them 5 stars on that aspect and the place was very clean! So the 3 and the 5 stars average out to about a 4 star experience!

FOOD WAS AWESOME

By AJP242 |

It was our first time to eat in this Outback location together with our friends. Their blooming onion is still a hit and it was really good. The four of us have different orders and each one of us enjoyed our food. I was not able to finish my food for I got full with the delicious bread, appetizer and salad and so I had it to go and it was still good and ate the next day. The servers are very courteous.

Outback

By Diann C |

We used to go there often, it was close to our home. Food was OK, not my favorite, but not bad. I really like their coconut shrimp. My daughter loves the potato soup

Handy location if your shopping in Mission Valley

By Rathcoole24 |

This place is a regular family style steakhouse.Service was quick considering it was busy and food good.

Aussies try the Steakhouse!

By JB072 |

As a pair of Aussies in the USA, we had always avoided this restaurant wherever we went - then one night we walked past and it smelt great from outside so went in! Was wel worth it. Food was great, service was good (especially when they realise where you are from!) and the price was reasonable. A large group of about 15 was seated near us, kids and all, and the staff had no problem taking care of them and the rest of the restaurant, which is often an issue.

Very friendly service

By James G |

This is a chain steakhouse, and the food quality is very much up to standard. Everything our party of six ordered was cooked as ordered. Appetizers ordered as mains were delivered with other diners' mains, and sharing was cheerfully accommodated. The ability to pay at the table without waiting for a server to appear with a bill and a machine was a pleasant surprise, leaving us at our ease to depart at our leisure. The location in a mall doesn't particularly add to the ambience, but the quality of food and service made our dinner a very pleasant one.

Tourist Trap

By Joel B |

This place used to have GREAT steaks at a reasonable price. The last 2-3 times I was shopping and went in for a meal I was very disappointed. Food quality has really gone down hill and its EXPENSIVE for what you get now-a-days

A classic

By VeneAlmazan |

This is one of our favorites restaurant for casual dinning. The food is great, the staff is really kind and they even help you with your lost items! We really love their blooming onion and the Victoria Fillet. Don't forget to try their awesome draft beers and their Australian wines!

What a pathetic place, beware do not go here

By Ally H |

This place was appalling, the management staff where rude and aggressive, and they asked me for id, i provided a government issued drivers licence from Australia,.. they refused it and said we have to be carrying our passports everywhere, i explained that the Australian government suggest that passports do not be carried in public she called me a liar.... for a place that apparently boosts being all Aussie,, that's a joke, they are more like hitlers,,,, problem being my husband is an international travel consultant for one of the largest flight companies in Australia you can guess who is going to be told about this... everyone in Australia.!!

Fast Service and Great Food

By Erin B |

We went around lunchtime on a Saturday and were seated right away. The service immediately took our order and brought out our drinks. We ordered an appetizer and main dish (to split). The food came out quickly and tasted delicious. We definitely recommend this Outback location.

Time to relax with a cold one.

By pepperman |

We went on a week night to get out of the rat race. This was a good choice. Not too busy, and our waitress was great. We needed to sit and a have a couple of beers before we ordered food, and she hooked us up. The beer was cold and atmosphere was casual. When we ordered, the food came out quickly and was great. Outback has got it figured out.

Pleasantly surprised ...

By Michelle A |

I am not a particular Outback fan, but decided to give this one a try. Saturday night ... plus Cinco de Mayo ... made for a very loud, very busy restaurant, but we found a table in the bar, which is open seating. I had the filet lettuce wedge ... which is a small filet with a lettuce wedge salad ... it was cooked perfectly and the salad was very good. He had a full rack of ribs with the fully loaded baked potato. He was in heaven ... the meat just fell off the bone. We really splurged and had the dessert sampler .. a piece each of carrot cake, cheesecake and a brownie sundae ... very, very nice and a bargain at $7.99 .. all in all a very nice time at a place I had pretty much written off. It will probably be a while until the next visit, but this was a pleasant evening with good food.

Value for money

By JSRT |

Steak comes with a soup or salad. They also have a gluten free menu. The sides are nice and you can have things like mash, sweet potato etc. good quality steak. Definitely worth a visit

Worst Service Ever

By SOMMA W |

I am a fan of this place, every time I visit the United States I keep a day to stop by Outback. This time I came with my couple after a long day in Disneyland and we planed to close our day with a great dinner. We were received very well for the hostess and then in the table the waitress was very rude. I asked her for an "Alcohol Free Beer" and she ask me for my ID? I take my wallet out of my pants and showed her. She ask me to put it out and she toked with her to show it to the supervisor. A few minutes later she came back to tell me that my ID is "Invalid" (I am Mexican). I was totally impressed because I always come to this "Outback" and always got my Beer. When I ask why my ID is invalid she said that her supervisor said that it is not an official ID. It was so frustrating because in every single place in the States I use my official Mexican ID, except in the border or immigration where I use the passport. I never thought a restaurant could invalidate my person, my nationality, my age and all that I am just for beer. Its so sad because in that moment you can't even confirm who you are because your ID is invalid. This place does not have a "Sign" or an announcement where you could read that you need and Specific ID to get a drink, in my case an Alcohol fee beer. This was so disappointing I couldn't even enjoy my dinner. I will certainly never comeback to this place.

Worst Customer Service

By 619Foodie |

On February 28, 2008 I ordered a 9oz filet steak cooked medium at the Mission Valley Outback. When the steak came to my table, it was brown on the outside but completely raw and cold on the inside. It took the kitchen two more tries to cook the steak to medium while my companion completed their meal and then waited for me to eat mine. On March 29, 2008 I decided to give Outback one more try. I overheard the table next to me order a steak medium and then sent it back twice because what they really wanted was well-done. I then overheard the manager provide the steak to the customers for free. I asked to speak to the manager to question why an order not properly given was provided free when my previously properly ordered steak was not. I was informed that the decision was the manager's to make and the manager on duty when my order was wrong was the owner Reyna Hernandez and I would need to speak with her. I asked when she would be available and was informed April 4 and provided her card. I today spoke with Reyna and she informed me every table is treated differently and was unsure why I was being "childish"- her words. I was never going to return to any Outbacks but thought I would provide Reyna with an opportunity to make the situation right. I guess I was wrong and to make matters worse, she thought it would be better service to her customers to patronize and insult them. When I told her I would be providing feedback to Outback, she then decided to inform me hat all California restaurants are individually owned so "it would do me no good."

You pretty much know what you are going to get when you go to Outback. Oddly enough I only wanted a salad plus we were pressed for time to get to the movie in time. Pretty good seared tuna salad and decent gin and tonic (note to self, next time use Bombay Saphire gin.)

Great food and service

By Scott H |

Had a wonderful dinner here for my wifes birthday. Service was great even at a later hour. Food was cooked perfectly and to our request. A enjoyable meal all around.

Worst Australian for an Aussie

By Clintonlaurelle |

This resturant and its staff should be very ashamed, the steak was not cooked as ordered on all three meals. Sauce arrived at the completion of the meal, the lobster tail was overcooked just a real mess. Definitely not worth 80 dollars and the young chap who was our waiter you need to take up a new profession very poor service and lack of listening skills. As for the Door Girl loose the attitude your product is terrible... Save your money eat elsewhere.......

Helped keep us shopping

By Aki I |

Had to have a proper bite in between Mission Valley shops and this Outback was conveniently located. As with all Outbacks, you pretty much know what to expect and this didn't disappoint in that respect. The salmon was good, better than thought it would be.

Great Steak and Great Service

By Dave A |

My wife's Birthday was the other day and she wanted to go to Outback. We went and invited several family and friends. This Outback is not closest to our house but closer to where everyone lives so we went. 8 of us went and were seated right away. The server was really good. She was quick and organized. We all ordered different items and all said their meals were Great. I had the Ribeye with Baked Potato and asparagus. Really , really Good! This is a Great Outback...A little pricey but worth it!

Prime Rib Deluxe!

By james h |

My wife andI decided to try the 24oz. prime rib with all of the trimmings. We ordered an extra side and split the meal. It was the best prime rib we have had in a long time at a very reasonable price. The service was great and the ambiance was very nice.

Always Good

By A. Vinnie V |

Outback Steakhouse is always good. Get a steak, salad, soup or something on the menu. Is always good. Love the bread and butter. Potato soup is one of my favorites. See you soon.

Raise the Steaks

By TRULYBLESSEDAT60plus |

After seeing the advertisement on TV over and over, I finally gave in and went to Outback to try the "Raise the Steak" special. I had the hash brown cake, stacked with the center-cut sirloin stacked with 6 large onion rings with a side of mashed potatoes. Everything was um, um good. Good service and good food. Also if you are an AARP member, you receive a 15% discount if you show your membership card.

Always great food!

By Carol B |

The food and staff are always top notch when you visit any outback steakhouse. The best part of this visit was the quickness in which my son and I received our order. I was pleased to say the least!

They now serve lunch!

By Gheflin |

Nice restaurant and staff. Their new hours allow for a great spot if you are looking for lunch before or after an afternoon movie....Their steaks are excellent and, of course, the blooming onion is perfect every time! Highly recommend it! Management is friendly and visits the guests routinely and checks on the experience. I have never had an issue, but have seen the servers and/or manager deal with complaints in a friendly and professional manner.

Old reliable

By ERL972 |

The restaurant is going through a remodel but service is not interrupted. The food was very good and is consistent with other locations. The one thing I don't like is the on the table ordering and checkout, makes it feels like a chili's or something. I just think it cheapens the brand and service. I guess it is just another business getting the consumer to do some of the work.

Good Experience For Dinner

By Love2travel2too |

My husband had the porterhouse. Didn't completely agree with him, but he is not used to beef all the time, and the porterhouse is 20 oz. Usually he sticks to the sirloin at other Outbacks. I had pasta which was good as usual. Great, fresh bread and butter. Good service. No complaints. One entree each with water came to $45, so not the cheapest dining option at this mall, but I found this to be a typical Outback experience.

Edible at $25 per person

By Mike H |

I had high hopes of Outback living up to their reputation as they do back home. Chicken tasted like it was marinated in salt water, ribs were lacklustre with bland taste. Sent back the mac n cheese for not being cooked. Service is slow and a bit unorganized. Shrimp and french fries were good though. I wont be back to this location.

Most consistant food at a good price anywhere.

By TheCaDean |

Grilled salmon is one of the best at any fine food place in america. the flat bread pizza and coconut Shrip are excllent too

Very good food, great happy hour!

By Jorge Fernández |

Good location in Mission Valley Mall, the food is very good, we were there on a Sunday afternoon so we got to experience the happy hour, lot of drinks and dishes for a lot less money that regular menu. Anyway, we got quality food and the service was very good. Drinks were nice and cold, great for a summer day. Not a lot of people since we arrived early. I would say that it´s worth the money.

Perfect

By Batori D |

Perfect and quick service, perfect food, kindly staff, nice please to sit outside, child friendly, must visit next time

Avrage but not good

By Viktor E |

If you go to this place you should order meat. The ceasar salad is not to recommend, edible but very basic. The steak was good though. The location is in a parking lot and the service from the staff varies. I have hade better food in a better environment and payed less. Overall a decent place but i will probably not eat here again.

Terrible Service / Poor Food

By CCarr |

Unlike other Outback's we've been too the wait staff was all over the place. It took forever for anyone to come to the table and then they kept forgetting to followup with us. The steaks all came out over seasoned with way too much pepper & were very very spicy. The lobster was overcooked and rubbery. What a waste.

Best steak you can get

By barney1954 |

Been to many Outbacks, always have a great steak, full of flavour and tender, and when I was there they had an unlimited shrimp side order which was also excellent. Couldn't manage desert!

The Good ......Food, The Bad ......Drinks, The Ugly.....Bugs

By Mike T |

This was our first visit to this Outback, We always can rely on a good dining out experience. This visit was the exception to the rule. The food was good even though we had to ask for the sauce that was supposed to be included with my wife's shrimp. The disappointing part was the drinks, My wife's champagne was flat so asked for a new glass and the second glass was flat also. So we gave up on the champagne. I ordered one of the top margaritas and it was like drinking strait lime juice. The Bugs...... there were little gnats flying around our table the whole time we were eating and we were eating inside.

Dinner and a movie

By June B |

standard chain fare. always good, never great! my son's Ribeye was the larger cut, but not very thick, I've seen thicker burgers! Service was quick enough as we had a movie after.

Tasty

By Kiwisammc |

We all really enjoyed our meal it was a run in and eat kinda thing, service was efficient and friendly, food was fast and tasty. Place was clean it served our needs on the night. No waiting at the restaurant but parking was a nightmare though and that was a Monday night go figure.

Had the best night

By Anne M |

Ate here last night whilst visiting San Diego. It was brilliant. First the food. Blue cheese and pecan salad - so good! Just about the tastiest salad I’ve ever had. Could of just had that. Had the filet Mignon and it was cooked to perfection. We sat outside around the fire pit. Such a lovely setting and watched the NBA on the big screen tv with our basketball mad boys. Drank a couple of skinny Rita cocktails - very yummy and only 150 calories. The whole family enjoyed their meals.. Our waiter Joe was fantastic, very friendly and attentive. Totally recommend this place!

Good Steak eating, great onion

By Tuurtje75 |

As always nice dinning in the outback steakhouse chain. Obvious had the famous onion. Well prepared steak. For European standard portions are huge.

Always get a good meal here

It is always a consisent meal you get here adn the food is fabulous. My only complaint is the wait staff asking how the food is tasting...the tip goes down automatically. It feels too invasive. It is like asking when you check into a hotel the next morning was the sex good, did you have good dreams? Ha! I prefer a waiter say is everything ok? Is it cooked the way you like it? WHY is the staff trained to say the word tasting. Are you happy with your meal, is everything ok? Please use that phrase. Because we get the how is it tasting everytime we go back we haven't been back. May sound petty but it makes us nuts.

Great service

I have visited Outback in many cities and have not had great service as I did in this Outback. Quick, accurate and friendly.

Utter Humiliation on New Year's Day

By JFC |

I experienced utter humiliation at this restaurant last night. We walked into the restaurant at about 8 pm and headed to the bar area lounge where we normally sit. The hostess quickly informed us that there was a wait list that included those tables. We put our name on the list and sat down in the waiting area. About 20 minutes later our name was called and we were seated by a hostess. Our waiter greeted us but as he was doing so manager Christian approached our table and told us we had seated ourselves and behaved rudely, according to his hostess. I was in complete shock. He then began to conduct a sort of investigation, engaging in a he said/she said between us and the hostesses, all in plain view of customers. We came for a quiet dinner, not to be dragged into a type of side show. Still in shock, I approached the hostesses assuming one of them had to remember me. One of them had JUST seated us, handed us menus, explained the self payment machines on the table, etc. As I spoke to the hostess it was clear she was not the one who seated us, but had provided the erroneous information to the manager. The manager informed me that I was upsetting the hostess (never mind that he approached us based on misinformation and essentially accused us of lying, thus upsetting US, the customers who had waited 20 minutes to be seated). He also explained he had no way of verifying that we had been seated and did not seat ourselves. Honestly, I felt like I was in a comedy of errors or in some kind of Twilight Zone episode. I understand that his inclination might be to trust his employee, but it was his job to insure customers are treated with basic courtesy and dignity, and he failed to do so with us last night. He made the situation worse by stating he would "allow" us to remain at the table and that we receive good service nonetheless. Nonetheless? My goodness, his own employee had just sat us there and he should have been able to determine this was the case. Instead, he made us feel unwelcome at a restaurant we have been going to for years. We were looking forward to our New Years dinner at This Outback, but it was ruined by a misinformed manager who appears to lack proper training and judgement. This is the first time I have posted a review. I am doing so at 5 am in hopes I can purge myself of the complete humiliation, frustration and embarrassment that was served up by manager Christian at the Outback Steakhouse last night.

Don't blame the waiter!

By MommyOnAFunMission |

Our waiter was really sweet and he was really working his butt off. I think he may have been the only server for the whole right side of the restaurant so food items that we ordered kept coming late. We were there a long time but spent most of the time just waiting. We all ordered the steak with unlimited shrimp. I ordered he crispy shrimp which was burnt, I ordered my streak medium rare and it was over cooked, to a point where I couldn't easily cut it with my knife. Perhaps the cook was the only one back there as well trying to serve the whole restaurant by himself so I guess we can't blame him either. Although we were still hungry and had ordered the unlimited shrimp, we got tired of waiting and rushed out of there. Would I go back? Nah. It wasn't the worse food experience we've had but it was far from being one of the best. They need more staff.

Family U.S trip

By Jason R |

As a family of 3, visiting from Australia and on our very first day we decided to have lunch here. We were not disappointed. Not only were the meals delicious, if not BLOODY HUGE (something we are slowly getting used to) the service was fantastic. Great job and will be back again. Thank you.

Everyone left happy.

By FWDaisy |

Convenient location on the way to the Padre game. We were there about 4:30 in the afternoon, so they weren't very busy. We had excellent, attentive service. I ordered the petite filet and wedge salad. The steak was okay, not a lot of flavor, but the wedge salad more than made up for it. Others at my table had the sirloin steaks and said they were perfect. My son had a HUGE hamburger, so he was pleased and my daughter ordered the french dip (they call it something fancy) and she said it was tender meat & good bread.

Great anniversary dinner

By ametrinel |

My husband and I went here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We love Outback and don't get the chance to go very often. When the server found out it was our 25th anniversary, she had them make us a special dessert. Very thoughtful. The food was cooked to order and service was quick.

Great come Back!

, Good service, better food, and some great deals at Happy Hour, Monday Bloomin' Onion days, and friendly servers, waitors, and bar tenders!

My Vote for the Best Chain restaurant

Steak, Shrimp, Blooming onion. Great soup, and Salads. My wife and I eat (Spit) the 16oz Outback Special with the Chopped Salad. It fills us up, we add sweet potatoes... Price around $22.00

Mom's 85th Birthday Dinner

By TRULYBLESSEDAT60plus |

I made reservations for 12 for my Mom's 85th birthday. I also asked if I could bring in a birthday cake and without hesitation I was told no problem and that they would refrigerate it until needed. The day of our reservation, everything was set in order and my mother was pleasantly surprised as this was all a surprise for her. Our waiter (I don't know his name) was great, from beginning to end, even to the point where I slipped him $20 in the midst of the meal because I wanted him to know that he was appreciated as he ran back and forth trying to please everyone. Thank You Outback as you helped make my Mom's 85th birthday very special!!!

Vacation

Family friendly restaurant, we had 6 children with us and the staff was great, good meal. Being a Friday night, didn't have to wait very long at all.

One For Two

By PismoPat |

We ate here twice on this trip. One was a 3 star and one a 5 star so I am averaging at 4. The first time, both our steaks were very undercooked. Sent one back and it took about 10 minutes before we got it back. My guest decided to eat it very rare. Mistakes get made, but it didn't need much fire to take it from rare to medium rare. My guest was almost finished her meal before mine came back. There was no adjustment made for the inconvenience. The second trip was entertaining some business associates and it turned out well. The service was very good. Everything came out right. The wedge salad is excellent.

Small Steak piece

By MrChai2005 |

I had orderd the 14oz steak only to find it was a very small piece I called for the manager but when she came to the table she insisted that it was 14oz she also did not offer to change if.

Consistency

By JohnD |

The Outback food, service and value is something you can depend on. They obviously work on this when training their staff as we have visited several Outback restaurants in California and each one one has been exceptional.

Consistency

By Lou S |

I've been to a bunch of Outback's now and they are all very consistent. This one is no different. Good food , very good service and the place is very clean. I always order the NY strip steak with baked potato and potato soup. Everything was cooked to perfection. My wife and kids all enjoyed their meals as well . We all had steaks and the bill was less then a hundred bucks for a family of 4 . Would definitely recommend and return. Consistency is the key here

Friday Night Dinner for 9

By JeremyHagen |

They got us right in and we had a Superb dinner... Everyone had Steaks and some Snow crab which was Delicious and the Desert Trio at the end was well worth it.

Sons birthday

By Kristie D |

My son LOVES Outback and it was his birthday. Service was the worst we've ever had! We told the waiter it was his birthday and not even an acknowledgement. Waiting on drinks, then waited longer for a glass of wine (served w meal). Never brought plates for bread and blooming onion. We will definitely NOT be returning to this location.

Be prepared to wait

By Jake_cisneros |

Don't waste your money steak was over cooked at our table as well as several others around us. The wife and I got ONE refill in 80 minutes and waited 45 minutes for rare and medium steaks. Spend your money elsewhere this location sucks.

Great place

By Elena Jeffries |

My husband and I had a very nice meal here though we got too much food:) we shared fries with cheese and lobster tales, it was perfect. I'm a seafood lover, so my choice was tilapia (15 bucks), my husband got a perfect steak (about 20 dollars). This, altogether with 1 beer and coke, totaled 74 dollars. Worth every cent.

Steakhouse is an excellent choice

By Phil S |

Outback Steakhouse is now an exceptional choice. There are so few other steakhouses and Outback has such a great variety and allows you to choose from so many options. Prices may be a little high for some, but if you are looking for Steak or other BBQ meats, this is the place.

Just another Outback

By Chris644 |

I do not know if I have every been in more restaraunts with such consistancy. So far all the outbacks have been the same. This one was up there with the best. Enjoyed it very much

Excellent

By patraveller2007 |

Had not been to an Outback in over 25 years and fondly remembered the Bloomin Onion. Seated promptly. Service was outstanding by Kelly. The Bloomin' onion was better than remembered. Steaks and prime rib were excellent. Wedge salad was best we ever had with bleu cheese and a touch of balsamic. Sides were a perfect compliment. Will definitely return.

Date Night - he wanted Steak

By 290penny |

Last minute date night, he wanted a STEAK and decided to try somewhere new for us. Super busy when we arrived, but hostesses were super nice and offered bar seating or outside if we didn't want to wait 30 minutes for inside table. No problem, we love eating at the bar and do it quite often. Fun people watching and talking to staff/bartenders, etc. Boy we lucked out . . Cindy our Bartender and server was Awesome. For a busy Saturday night, we felt important, well attended and had great service. She checked on us often and so did the other bartender when he was nearby. He had the bone in ribeye and it did not disappoint. Cooked perfectly. I have a bunch of sides and they were all great. The chicken enchilada soup was not m favorite . . . thicker and almost creamy based. Cindy warned me prior - so I was expecting it, just didn't really like it. Everything else was great. We heard numerous comments from everyone sitting around us and everybody seemed to have great food great service and a great time as well. Successful date night and yummy meal. We will definitely go back

Comfort Food

By Gary W |

I love the teriyaki rib-eye steak and chopped pecan salad. I haven't eaten at Outback in a couple years. Stopped by early and beat the rush. The food was just as remembered and the portion now made two meals.

Nice location, large patio but, unfortunately, average food

By Rasvan |

I was a guest at the Outback last week while in a business trip in the area. In fact I was at the same location 6 years ago and the restaurant did not change much since then. This is a great location in the Westfield mall, it is animated and full of life. A table on the outside patio brings you in the center of the action with all the shoppers and tourists roaming around. The service was very nice and attentive and have no comments beside the fact that although I made comments to the quality of the food no alternative was provided or a manager was not asked to pass and inquire like in all the other Outbacks. This time it was not an exceptional experience, it was not the type to say that I'm looking forward to be back. Part of the special was the sirloin steak with grilled shrimps, asked for medium and I got it very well done; it was dry, and seared such as all the juices and flavors were completely gone. The Aussie fries were over fried, dark brown color far away from the typical golden crispy ones. Food was realy bland, nothing that could brag about, not the normaly expected Outback flavored food. Another interesting thing is that I found this to be the only location I've been in that's missing the regular Outback sea salt & pepper grinders/mills from the table. Although I asked for a pepper grinder I was told they do not have, only the moist pepper shaker on the table that was more for decor than able to be used. Otherwise enjoyed the great weather, animated location and the nice time in San Diego area.

Manager was hostile and rude.

By Irwin R |

My son and I went to the movies last night. Coming out of theatre, we saw a big sign that said the following restuarants offerred specials for those with same day movie stubs. Outback was on the list. But when we got to the restuarant, the server said the offer had expired last Friday. I then asked to speak to the manager. The manager said the offer had expired and then immediately walked away. We then checked the sign again and it didn't have any expiration date on it. The manager was rude and hostile. On the positive side, our server did apologize and the food was good.

Not good

By Britt R |

My frist visit at An Outback restaurant, and probably my last. The food was boring, the waiter busy and unconcentrated. The food was eatable, but nothing special. For the price I can find better food elsewhere.

Always come back!

By ErinBirza |

Every time I come back to the US my family and I have an obligated stop to Outback! One of our favorites!

Always a good time!

By JudySCook |

I always bring a jacket in this restaurant. Always too much A/C now matter what Outback you eat in. We usually do take-away so we don't freeze in the restaurant!

Overpriced -low quality

By Jean L |

My husband and I decided to share the T-bone and lobster, with each of us ordering a separate salad. The lobster was about 4 bites. The steak was no where near the size stated in the menu. I have always been a fan of Outback, but the quality of the food does not warrant the increase in prices.

Steak was good--NOT GREAT!

By traveltoforeignlands |

The steak at Outback Steakhouse was good--NOT GREAT! If someone suggested going there, I would, but it is NOT my favorite steakhouse in San Diego County. My date ordered the Blooming Onion as an appetizer and so I took a few bites. I confess it was delicious if you are anyway into onion rings (closest comparison); however, I tried to avoid fried foods, so a couple of bites were enough. Do not order the blooming onion for just one person as it is huge! Service was good--no complaints there.

busy location- fun vibe

By Parents of 3 Boyz |

every once in a while you need to visit an outback steakhouse. this particular restaurant is attached to a mall- and it was busy! food was good.

Terrible Service,

By nursespark |

We went to the mall to see Wonder Women and it wad 9 p.m. Outback steakhouse was a couple of doors down from the movie theater. We went in and ask were they still serving dinner. We were assured that they were still open for another hour. I ordered the dinner special which consisted of a soup, salad, steak dinner and one side , and a piece of cheesecake for dessert. The soup was obviously from the bottom of the pot, the consistency was like mash potatoes. I ordered my steak medium and the server brought it to me and left. The steak was raw meat all the way through except for the outside. The server never came back to check. It was quite a few minutes before I was able to flag him down. He took my meal back to the kitchen and I waited and waited. Both my two companions finished their meals before I finally got my steak back and they forgot to bring me back my vegetables. I finished eating my steak and waited for the server to come back so I could get my desert. I finally went up to the hostess and asked for my dessert to go, and our bill. I could see our waiter doing end of evening stuff to finish off his shift unfortunately for us this was at the expense of his customers. If this restaurant needs time to close, they should of told us it was to late for dinner. I feel like I wasted $67 dollars.

Only one way to know how it tastes and that's to try it

By jazz963 |

So iv been to America a few time and we always made a point of visiting the outback although normally were at the east side of the country this was our first time west. So we thought well go for something that we know and once again we were not disappointed . The food was amazing as always! And the staff are friendly there's nothing else you could really want .

Great steaks, seafood, salads in Westfield Shopping Center, San Diego, CA

By Rhett L |

If you want a decent steak, seafood, and/or salad, this is your place. Located in Westfield Shopping Center in San Diego, this place gets busy so be ready for a little wait. Service is good and they have a large dining and bar area. Great menu with large/small portions and lots of drinks to choose from as well.

Good food!

By Melinda P |

Love the blooming onion appetizer! Ate a late lunch so enjoyed slightly reduced prices prior to the 4:00 pm dinner prices. Several good combos are offered and we loved the hamburgers and chicken/Swiss sandwich! Their house salad with homemade bleu cheese dressing and warm squaw bread are delicious!

Worst Outback in SD

By Timothy H |

Worst Outback in San Diego.....YUCK Bad service even the food tastes terrible. I have several friends that work at different Outback locations and none of them will eat at this location. Go to either Poway or El Cajon instead.

The hamburger :D

By Not Just R |

This is our first visit here. My husband loved the hamburger. Well cooked, tasty and with fries and a beer for $8 was pretty awesome. If you want for $2 will be a big size beer. A really good service, John A. help us with the new menu, suggestions and was friendly. We tried the famous blooming onion, was nice. We enjoy the meal and we recommend this place.

Reliable Place to Eat

By Terry B |

We decided to find the closest Outback to our hotel. Drove about 10 min and went in. No wait which was good. Food was high quality and very good. We shared the 11 oz sirloin, baked potato and salad. Everything was great. The place was located on the outskirts of Fashion Valley so easy to get to after shopping or movie inside mall.

Great Mid Price Range Steakhouse

By LizaS S |

If you are looking for a mid price steakhouse this is the place for you! The service is very good too, along with good energy / ambiance. I also recommend the bar for a drink or more casual dining experience. More for friends and family then business dinners.....

Won't return

By Mary Anne P |

I've been to many Outbacks and this one in Mission Valley was by far the worst!!! Ordered rib steak 10 oz n salad with blue cheese added. Steak was way over cooked and not as ordered. It may have been 6 oz or less, and no more than 1/2 " thick. Didn't taste grilled and it was quite dry. Salad had little blue cheese and nothing like menu photo. Would have sent back but know it's a gamble to do that. Sure don't recommend.

It’s always a safe bet to

By paws0810 |

It’s always a safe bet to have dinner and a familiar restaurant when you’re traveling. The restaurant was clean the service was OK food was delicious took a long time for the steaks to come out but we enjoyed our dinner. And the prices of dinner are super expensive

Not a good experience

By Emma Williams |

We visited outback in Newport Blvd, Ca, during the first week of our trip and was so impressed we decided to eat at outback in San Diego. It was the last night of our holiday and we planned a nice meal. What a let down. We both ordered steak, me medium and my partner medium rare. We ordered different sides. I had mash potatoes and broccoli. My partner had garlic fries and roasted sprouts. We both opted for garlic sauce as a taste mate. One of which they forgot to bring out but went back to get it after we asked. Food came out, I cut into my steak to a lot of blood oozing from it, not impressed. My partner suggested I had his steak so we just swapped the steaks from plate to plate. I cut into my ‘new’ steak and again, a lot of blood. One was rare, the other medium rare. The restaurant was fairly quiet so staff weren’t around so we pressed the ‘summon server’ button and waited 6 minutes for someone to come! When he did, Sam, we asked for the steak to be recooked. He took it away. He was gone for 10 minutes! No exaggeration as my partner wouldn’t eat his meal until mine was returned he kept an eye on the time. By the time it came back, my sides were cold as was my partners food. After the meal Sam came to clear the table asking if everything was ok, we explained about the steaks being on wrong plates and then not cooked as ordered etc and he said oh ok, was it nice?! He didn’t listen to a word we said, didn’t offer a manager or to rectify anything. For the first time on our trip, and this was our last night in America, we didn’t leave a tip and left feeling very disappointed. The positives, the roasted sprouts are amazing! Chips were good!

Fantastic food

Outstanding Food!! Even Better Service!!!!

By Bob_M_LaMesaCA |

We are San Diego locals. Some weeks ago, my family and I were returning from a long road trip and feeling tired, hungry, and admittedly, a little grumpy. It was relatively late (around 9:00 p.m.) but we decided to stop over at the Outback Steakhouse in Mission Valley. Surprisingly, our party of "four plus one high chair" was seated within about 15 minutes. The maitre 'd was very charming and cheerful despite the late hour and the obviously packed restaurant. The moment we were seated we knew we were in for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. My wife and I ordered the prime ribs and my children ordered other steak dishes (we are not shy being called carnivores!). Suffice to say, they really know how to do "medium rare" and "medium," among other orders. The meals (inlcuding the sides) were delicious, beautifully plated, and truly "had no rules" (we did some substitutions with no problems). But what really clinched the experience for us was the service. Our server was very attentive, kept us updated on the status of our orders, and not once (honest!) did we have to ask to refill any drink. If she saw our glasses anywhere near halfway empty, she was refilling them! She was very friendly (again, despite the late hour and having to cater to at least three tables that I observed) and even engaged us in some light conversation. She was a college student working nights. We were so impressed by our experienced that we felt like we had dinner at a relatives home. I even mentioned it to the Manager on duty and sent an e-mail to the company website. And we left her close to a 25 percent tip. You must try this place. I have tried other Outback Restaurants. They are also good, but this one so far is the best! A must try, even if it's a chain restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Awesome dinner

By Michael T |

Steak and shrimp, what can I say? It was great! Service and atmosphere was date night quiet and the place was clean. Must return soon.
