Great place

By Aaron B |

Have been here about a dozen times since it opened. Usually go with my family. The kids love the food, the beer selection is awesome - tons of local stuff I have never had or don’t know where else to get. I took my work team from out of town here recently and they really liked it too.

Fun place!

This is a great place to stop for drinks and food! Fun to try different types of beer/wine/cider that you can pour yourself. Food is good, great atmosphere, helpful staff - just a really fun place to spend a few hours!

Great burger and a beer

By XxDhuxX |

We stopped in for lunch. Good home made style burger and a large side salad. Salad was a 10. Multiple selection of local brews. Had a great double bock. They will let you sample. Very good helpers but auto charge a 15% tip. They will remove on request. We will definitely be coming back.

Great range of beers and food, if a little pricey

Visited on a Wednesday night and enjoyed sampling some of the beers from the local area and beyond, but full pints ended up costing a little more than expected, but went down a treat. I had some tacos with my beers, and the honey serrano chicken ones were delicious - I would definitely recommend.

Average, could be great

Stopped by with wife and son. Had some quick bites, wings overpriced at $12 bucks but tasty. Burgers (kids and adults) were a bit salty. Pours were good, great selection. Ambience and concept is a great idea, service was top notch. Don’t like the fact they “auto-tip” the 15% but it’s clearly stated at the place. They need to step up the food game.

40 beers, ciders and wines on tap to sample by the ounce or glass, great food too!

We were visiting our adult kids in Austin, looking for a nearby place for drinks and food. What a great surprise. The owner was very friendly and helpful about demonstrating the use of the taps and payment recording process with the provided card. The beer and cider I tasted were excellent. The food was also surprisingly wonderful...excellent homemade veggie burger and salad. My daughter had a shrimp burger that was also a hit. They also have a kids menu and lots of space for kids. TVs for sports. Outdoor seating.

Drinks by the Ounce (Oz.) and Great Grub!

Stopped by Oz. Tap House for the first time after a Vandegrift H.S. football game, recommended to us by a family member. “Go to Oz (pronounced Oz, like wizard of Oz) Tap House, is great. First things first, we realized later it’s not Oz it’s Oz. Notice the period after the z. Oz. = ounce! Makes perfect sense when you see the concept. Dozens of self-serve taps, pouring cocktails, beer, wine, etc. Way cool! We couldn’t tell how much vodka was actually in the Cosmos we had, but they were tasty! The Community brand ice tea off the charts too. Any place serving Community products knows their stuff … oh yeah, the food. Definitely “gotta go back for more” fare. Fried cauliflower and jalapeños, nice ranch sauce. Our server, unprompted, brought some buffalo wing sauce, “dip a little in here, then the ranch.” Awesomeness! House tacos and cod tacos were delicious, depths of sublime flavors layered into top shelf flour tortillas. Our only observation was using the house taco slaw on the cod tacos may be a better pairing than the sautéed cabbage… at any rate, the tacos were outstanding. We’ll definitely be back, lots more on the menu to explore. And a special shout out to James working the register. Explained the concept, led us through the process, and answered quite a few “newbie” questions. He was great, no need to hire more employees, clone James!

Had lunch today at the Oz Tap House in River Place. What a fun place to eat. Good menu with an interesting shrimp burger. They have a wall of serve serve beers, over 30 local craft beers and it is self serve! 6 wines, couple of ciders as well. Very nice tap room food, and burgers for appetites big and small! Owner Kristi Kanter met us and mentioned that they also have brunch Sat-Sun from 10-3. Take out menu and a pet friendly patio rounds out this wonderful addition to our area. This is a must try in my book!

Great place for craft beers

Nice place, lots of craft beer choices. Owner came by and checked on us. Burger was a little under cooked, should have asked for well done. Fries were really good. Good place to go with friends. Staff was very friendly.

Great place to stop by for a quick bite and cool beer. The owner is very friendly and works to make the guests feel welcome. Would like their happy hour to be a bigger discount on beers to match other dining options. Not a deal-breaker, just a suggestion.

Wow!

My son told me that this new place on RM 2222 was really good so I went to see for myself. It’s far-beyond “really good”; it is fantastic. I ordered the UBER burger and added a side of Onion Rings and was not disappointed. The burger was the best burger I’ve ever had and the O-Rings were equal. The lovely hostess recommended a beer and let me sample it— I then quickly had three full ones. The place is clean, modern and will be a hit with techies, for sure, as everything is “automatic”. I highly recommend!

Good food. Not so good service.

Ate here with kids and grandkids. They got my order wrong, so I had to wait for it to be corrected. And then, my corrected order came before the first kid's meal arrived. The second kid's meal didn't arrive until everyone else had finished eating. It's a good thing there was a playground to keep the kids occupied until their food finally came.

Yummy!

Stopped in for lunch and it was perfect. Food was prepared correctly, beer was cold and people were friendly.

Great tap house with a lot of local beers and an awesome menu

By MrAF109478 |

Innovative self pour system that provides information about the beers and shows you your bill in real time. Easy to try different beers and pour as much or as little as I feel like. Love the menu here, great very juicy burgers with options for dinner and brunch so this is quickly becoming an all day favorite

Go to Oz and tell owner Sean that Eric sends you. Have the German Pretzel called Charcuterie Pretzel for two.

Oz. Tap House: a great local restaurant.

By Larry W |

My wife and I travel frequently to Austin and have for a number of years. With two of our children here, we have dined out at many of Austin's finest restaurants. I am a partner in a number of businesses in Sonoma County, California, including golf courses, theaters and a restaurant. I am rarely motivated to write a restaurant review, particularly a glowing review. My wife found Oz. Tap House online and it was very close to our hotel. My personal experience with tap houses is that they have great beer, but mediocre food and generally less than mediocre service. I went online and looked at the menu, still not particularly enthusiastic. But I decided to place a dinner order for my wife and I and was immediately blown away by the online ordering system. Virtually every menu item can be custom ordered in a dizzying variety of ways. I even remarked to my wife that it was the finest online ordering software that I had ever seen. But ordering is one thing and execution is another. My wife ordered the Oz. House Burger (Beef), cooked medium, substituting lettuce wrap for the bun and adding avocado with a small avocado jalapeno side salad. Again, the customization options were many. I ordered the Charcuterie Pretzel and a Side Caesar Salad, with no croutons. I knew the restaurant was only a couple of minute drive, but even then the speed of the announcement of the projected pickup time and the time itself was amazing; less than 15 minutes. When I picked up the meals at curbside, I told the waitress how impressed I had been with the online ordering system and she thanked me and told me she would have to tell her husband. Turns out Krista and her husband, Sean, own and operate the restaurant. I had assumed with the level of sophistication that it must be a franchise or chain, but no, Oz. is a true mom and pop restaurant. When leaving I told Krista that the proof would be in (i) whether the delivered food matched the order and (ii) the quality of the food. I had barely started eating when my wife announced that her salad was spectacular and the burger one of the best she had ever had. My meal was every bit as impressive. Again, uncharacteristically for me, I called Krista (even though the restaurant was hopping and I knew she was busy), just to tell her that the food was as good or better than the service. This is as advertised: true farm-to-market fare, exceedingly fresh, expertly prepared as ordered and quickly delivered. Yes, Oz. may not have McDonald's prices, but it has infinitely superior food, expertly prepared and efficiently delivered. We admittedly didn't even try what was probably the standout feature of the restaurant: the beer. I assume if the restaurant part of the tap house was spectacular, the beer side of it must be even more so. Next time. Do yourself a favor and try the Oz. Tap House. My very best wishes to Krista and Sean on a very successful business in a tough industry.

Update 02-23-2024 We stopped by OZ. Tap House for a quick bite after a long day spent out and about. Even though it was about 6:30pm, the place was not that crowded. We needed to be briefed on "the process" again, open a tab, order food, get your drink cards, serve yourself at the tappers. The restaurant has about 40 self-serve tappers, wine, beer (lots) and mixed drinks. Slide your card into the tap machine, pull the tap, shut off when you have as much as you want. Simple. We had Moscow Mules this time, very delicious, moderate amount of alcohol included (about the strength of a beer). For food the table ordered the fried fish tacos, the ahi tuna tacos (rare), the steak salad and the Blue burger. All were very good, and the food came out fast! The tacos were in flour tortillas, fried fish and ahi tuna were perfectly cooked, the veggies and all on top crisp and fresh. We requested and received a little jalapeno hot sauce, that was the perfect topper for the tacos. The steak salad was huge, the steak plentiful and cooked perfectly at medium rare. The dressing was good as well. Al the ingredients were fresh, and the combination of extras worked well. The blue burger may have been the runaway star this time. Expertly cooked to medium rare, crispy bacon on point, caramelized onions, and a generous heap of blue cheese crumbles. The fries were excellent. Oz. Tap House is very good for what it is meant to be. Easy access top-shelf bar food/gastropub, family friendly, great place to hang and chat, and the self-serve beverages are a unique concept, and fun! Highly recommend Oz. Tap House!

Great concept

Pour your own beer, wine, cider, so you can choose how much you want and try a variety at your own pace. No hassle. Very friendly, patient, and efficient staff. Casual atmosphere. Food was average.

Great concept and family friendly

Great concept with a card that tallies your tab with each pour. Beer selection was very credible and Austin breweries were well represented. My wife particularly enjoyed the sangria selection! Food was terrific (Blue Burger, salad, fish tacos, and more). I would definitely recommend this whether with the kids on a weekend afternoon or on a night out with the guys in the evening.
