location and food was great

Its all true

By Jim T |

Pace was a recommendation from a friend who travels to LA regularly - so I read all the reviews too and...they are all pretty much true. The food is great....there's only beer and wine....its quite noisy......there probably are tables where the legroom isn't great (although the one we had was fine).....and the bill I got at the end has required me to take out a second mortgage. But did we have a top night and a lovely meal served by nice people - yes we did. Dust off the credit card and give it a shot!

Empty Promise

By TALLGUY |

Made a reservation a few days before that Saturday night through a reservation site. The restaurant called me twice the day of to confirm. On the second call i explained that I was very tall so they could consider that when finding a table to sit me at. The hostess assured me that she had a corner table all picked out which would give me the leg room needed plus keep me from blocking any aisles where people were passing often. When I arrived the gentleman at the front confirmed my name and asked us to follow him. We were escorted through a romantically lit dining room and out a side door stopping short of a second dimly lit room and was shown a table situated in the in between area which reminded me of a converted side yard built by red bricks covered in graffiti. It was like sitting net to the bathroom entrance. Soon After sitting I was treated to other patrons and staff constantly bumping into to me because I was seated at a very narrow two top table smashed up against the outer wall of this side yard and my wide shoulders stuck out into the aisle. At one point even the man from the front who I came to find out was the manager also bumped into me. Bad planing on his part and the corner table I was promised was either an empty promise from the female hostess or this manager felt that he had better uses for it than letting me have it This side yard is not bad if your plan was to wear tennis shoes and have some beer and pizza, however I planned a more romantic Saturday night affair. I am a loyalist when the food is good and I am treated well by the staff as i'm sure most people are, however though the food was okay ( minestrone soup, and grilled Salmon ) the first impression by that manger killed any chance of me coming back One bright spot was our server Arturo who was great and even he was scratching his head as to why I was seated where I was I came here because of the past reviews plus the story about the owner and fellow Italian. The experience just fell way short of expectation

Good food- limited drink options

By Brendan B |

I had a nice meal at Pace, an AppStore of stuffed squash blossoms was delicious and the main course of seafood pasta was fresh and tasty. My only gripe is that the restaurant is wine and beer only- leaving few options for those who want mixed drinks. The selection of wine and beer seemed extensive, and I would recommend for those people who aren't interested in cocktails.

Friday Night Dinner

By X X |

Interesting place for dinner. You definitely need to make reservations; especially if you would like to sit out on their patio. The entire place felt a bit cramped. They have a nice mix of items for dinner so everyone should be able to find something they like. They only serve beer/wine though.

Great food, cool, but low key & unpretentious

By dgraham |

Laurel Canyon has always had a cool, no B.S., alternative vibe, and in the heart of it, underneath the funky Canyon Store is Pace, a favorite of locals. As someone who has lived in New York and Paris for twenty years, the vibe of Pace is wonderfully refreshing for LA and the food (Italian) is great. It doesn't try to be haute couture, but is able walk that delicate tightrope where both hipsters and families with kids swear by it. Maybe it's the crayons that are on every table so you can draw to your heart's content or write poetry to your lover, either way it sets a wonderfully casual vibe in a setting that some would call chic. The food is simple and great. If we're talking great tasting comfort food, the salmon is unbeatable. The spaghetti is also a favorite, the butternut squash pasta is great, the beet salad is great. It's hard to miss here. Most young locals in the entertainment industry place Pace on their Top 10 list. Try it. It's got casual swag and good food.

Amazing Salmon

Amazing Salmon

Not up to par (second time in a row)

By Richard R |

One of our favs... until lately. Inattentive/bad service last March. Forgiven. But happened again tonight. 30 minute wait for our reservation. Not good, especially with only 1 update 15 minutes into the wait and a rather bland "thanks for your patience" when being seated. Then, no appetizer appears (had to ask for it). Told management that the night wasn't going well. Appetizer arrives... as do main dishes a few minutes later (nice spacing guys). After that long wait for table, they had our meal wrapped up in about 1 hr (rush, rush - taking plates quickly), even though we saw other tables lingering through most of our meal (one of the reasons we had to wait 30 minutes for our reservation). Management did provide a free glass of wine and a scoop of vanilla ice cream as comp. But that's not the point. The point is that Pace used to have cool vibe and was welcome oasis that captured the 60s. Tonight just felt like LA restaurant catering to tables they knew and blowing off a once regular customer. Food still great though wines by the glass are average or worse. Hope attitude and overall management reverts back to form and matches quality of food and interior. We'll try again... but not soon.

Delicious

By SueMass |

This is a real gem. Menu is the perfect size. They do a beautiful cheese plate, awesome pizza, and the pasta dishes are the shining star. I can resist the prosciutto with peas! Bar serves beer and wine only. Lighting is dim. Get a reservation, the place fills up fast. Valet parking.

great food and ambiance, a shame they got bad service

By Val R |

I came for dinner, food is delicious but we kept on waiting for the waiter to come take our orders and beware of our needs for drinks, etc. expensive but the food worths it.

plenty to love/plenty to hate

By TSF3333 |

Delicious salmon, handsome room, friendly over-worked waiter. However, the room was so loud you could barely hear yourself think (evidently the heated patio is quieter), the lava cake was over-cooked and the bill was a whopper ($200) for two meals that should have cost at least 30% less.

Nice ambience, but bla

By cc_MD2012 |

Nice ambience, but we all thought the various dishes were bland. The lobster pasta special sounded delicious but disappointed.

Great Little Find

By AllyTravels1 |

Pace is charming, comfy, and has a great wine list. Tremendous friendly, service. The food is good, and you get your choice of sides, which is nice. Note: the cheese plate is on the dessert list. Very traditional Italtan.

Cool vibe

By Acttwo |

The place smelled amazing when I walked in. The atmosphere is super cool with low light and tables spread out thru cave like twists and turns. The cuisine was excellent. I had a grilled salmon on cedar plank with roasted root vegetables and brown rice. The portion size was good, not great but who needs so much food. Highly recommended. Make sure to call days in front for a reservation.

Excellent Dining Experience

By Greg F |

Good Italian food in cozy atmosphere away from the crazy downtown Hollywood crowd. If you want to eat with the locals and get way from the tourists this is your place. Plenty of free parking and ride share gets you here as well. Pace is on my list of places to eat again when visiting the area.

Very Funky place but the food is fantastic

By Chiili |

It is hard to figure out where to park or enter the restaurant as this is a very old building. The restaurant is downstairs attached to the Canyon Market. We got a great corner table. The vegan tomato soup made with leeks was excellent. However the blackened shrimp salad with a lemon dressing was absolutely the best. The shrimp was very sweet and fresh. The red snapper was done perfect with a lemon caper sauce. Can not wait to go back.

boring food and way overpriced

By val8112 |

I used to love Pace in the late 90's early 2000's. I don't know if it's a new owner in the last decade or what but for the last 10 years every time I give it a shot it comes up short. It used to have a more rugged and 'canyon' vibe, but they remodeled at some point and it's pretty bad so I decided to opt for delivery. The food arrived on time but I couldn't believe the tiny portions. Seriously, the Cesar salad in the picture was $15. I'm not opposed to paying top dollar for small portions of food if they are exceptional - but this food is "meh" at best. I also had salmon and some other dishes - all of them completely lackluster. I think I will have to give up on this place.

Great food, awesome vibe

By WestLAFamily |

We ate at Pace (pronounced Pa-shay) last Saturday, trying to escape the west-side rut we had been in. Great experience! The restaurant has a cool underground-cave/speak-easy vibe, located below a Topanga-style market. Benches with pillows along the wall. Not a quiet romantic place - it was crowded (but not overly) and pretty loud. Good energy. The food was terrific. We did not have the pizza, but it looked awesome. Shared a great spaghetti with meat sauce as an appetizer, and had the lamb shank as a main course (and tried the cedar-plank salmon as well). Food was uniformly delicious, with good portion sizes as well. All in our group were impressed with the food. Don't be in a rush - we waited with some wine about 20 minutes for our table, which was not a problem. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Very Good!

By Chelseypreiser |

My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary. It was very romantic and the food was amazing! The only thing I didn't like was the food and wine were very expensive. With an appetizer, entrees, and wine, our bill was over $100! I don't think our food tasted that expensive.

What a delight!

It feels old-fashioned and hip all at the same time. Dark, cozy and great food. Our son lives nearby so we eat here whenever we're in LA. They eat there regularly! Everything is good and the service is terrific.

family gathering

By D1027LEanthonyw |

you have to book early to get atable at pace in the canyon. There are several tables but its arelatively small restaurant. It makes up for that with an excellent menu and disgustingly good desserts that you need to order at the beginning of your meal. Always busy and a little cramped but great fish and steak, salads and dips.fine Californian wines and service.noisy atmosphere but that is what you expect from the crowd who live in laurel canyon. Great night, great food and friends,

Excellent all round, though pricey

By James Loxton |

I came here last night with my eldest brother, having not been since 2003. My happy memories of it were certainly not disappointed! I had the Hercules' Pie (pizza), which was a great portion size and tasted delicious. The waiters were knowledgeable, friendly and genuine. The atmosphere is very homely and the general dining table near the till is perfect if you haven't booked and don't mind having other people on it - good fun in fact! The place is slightly expensive, but that reflects the area. One waiter was trying hard to sell the white truffle covered pizza, but at $90, is a bit overdone for my current taste buds! I definitely recommend this place - with a local store alongside; it's your friendly local Italian restaurant, where you can buy the groceries from next door afterwards!

Cozy and Tasty dining in the Canyon

By YOPP |

For my wife and I, Pace is one of our favorite all around places to dine. Situated under a local convenience store in Laurel Canyon, Pace has that "neighborhood gem" feel. The interior is warm and inviting as if you're stepping into a secluded, private dining room. The walls are usually decorated with art from local artists, and the small size gives the whole place an intimate feel. There is a small bar to sip wine and cocktails at while you wait for yoru table (you may have to stand as there isn't much room). The wait is worth it though. The menu at Pace usually has a good selection of fresh made pastas, as well as a tasty fish selection and one or two meat choices. Service has always been good with just the right pacing so as to not feel rushed. My only knock would be that the lighting is slightly on the dim side, so reading the menu can be a challenge. We especially like Pace during the winter holidays for a warm, romantic meal. I would definitely reccomend Pace to friends and visitors who are looking for a neat restaurant that is tucked away and off the path of the tourist traps.

Everyone knows where this is.........

By raff622 |

and we all have driven by it on our way up or down Laurel Canyon and say that we need to try it some time. It took us 15 years to stop talking like that and eat there. We went on a Saturday with some friends(who also had the same issue) for dinner. A couple of things to note.....Make a reservation and be on time for it(we were). They are a very busy place and I'm not sure if they have a lot of leeway in that area. The food was excellent......lasagna, tagliatalle, and salmon were all wonderful. They also have a nice selection of desserts, with the hot fudge sundae being particularily decadent. We found the service to be good, if a bit on the intrusive side. It worked out to cost just under 200. for 4 of us. Valet parking is 8.00 and highly recommended. This is an interesting and good restaurant, so on that ride up or down the canyon, stop in and try it.

hidden treasure

By Sam Milgrom |

tucked away in an old brick building under a forgettable local market is a jewel of a place...sublime decor - walls tastefully covered with fabulous artworks, craftworks & legendary music photography...the well-chosen wine list, eclectic menu, and attentive service help make your dining experience memorable...you almost don't want to tell anyone you know about this place...and keep it for your own special occasions...or your regular hangout...try anything...but the salmon is 'signature'....and the house marinated olives served as an appetizer are to live for!

Best meal by far in LA

By Bill P |

After getting a recommendation from the owner of the house we rented and having read reviews online, we booked a dinner for 4 on a Tuesday night at Pace. This was by far the best meal we had in LA. Great atmosphere -- good for couples, groups, and families with older teens (not appropriate for younger kids). Classic Italian menu. All of us had something off the list of specials and they were excellent. Also had the warm chocolate cake for dessert. A few tips -- slow down as you approach and use the valet parking on the uphill side of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is in the basement below the Canyon Country Store. We pulled in on the downhill side and couldn't get back around to the valet without going up the canyon and turning around at the next light. Definitely use the valet as I couldn't see any other parking. Also, be sure to stop in the store before or afterwards. It is a trip back to the 60s (in a good way). Also, they have a nice selection of beer and wine, but no cocktail service.

Overpriced but nice ambiance

By Laura D |

Given the reviews of Pace, it sounded like a great place, and with all the celebrities who go there I figured the price would be worth it. I was dieting, so I opted for the red snapper. It was uninteresting. Adequate, but nothing special about it. My daughter got the lasagne, and the restaurant did not have ricotta cheese. I'm Italian, so the idea that an Italian restaurant would leave out the ricotta, and then say they didn't even have any to give her on the side, was... weird. My husband got the lobster capellini special. Again, adequate, but nothing special about it. The ambiance was lovely, and the wines we ordered were very good. The service was very good too. But spending $280 on a meal that simply did not live up to reviews felt a little disappointing. It seemed like people go because it has a reputation for celebrities more than because of the food. On top of that, they charge $10 for valet parking. I'm not sorry we went because it was a really cute place, but I'll never go back.

Casual dinner

By Ariadne W |

On a business trip to LA. Business colleague's sister & husband live near there, so we all go. We couldn't get a reservation for a table for 4, but we could eat at community style table. Hercules Pizza as an appetizer and we order cedar plank salmon and pasta bolognese. It was fresh and delicious. Dining companions said salad was really good. Be prepared to spend a bit more, but it is worth it.

Great food, wine, and patio. Maybe I just hit them on a great night, but so far my new favorite!

Great simple Italian

Great simple Italian. Huge fab pizza. V good short wine list. Very busy and noisy in doors. Ask for outside seating. We were quickly through our meal. Will return for a proper dinner!

Our favourite meal so far!

By Julia W |

Went here while staying in Hollywood on a recommendation from a friend who lives in LC. Exceeded expectations- lovely food & drinks, friendly staff, really nice atmosphere- loved it!

Unique and original with satisfying food.

By Barbara J |

Love the vibe in this unique spot, an old landmark building from Laurel Canyon's hippie days. Inside it's a buzz of conversation, but we enjoyed dining on the patio-- quieter and a great place for intimate conversation. Our party of four enjoyed the grilled grouper, the pappardelle, the lasagna, and the ravioli, sharing an excellent Caesar salad and some Fanny bay oysters. Afterwards we indulged in the chocolate cake (order it early) and the apple crumble, both of which were superb. The wine list was very adequate. The meal was served at a relaxed pace, which gave us the time to savor some adult family time together. Excellent service!! Valet parking just north of the attached "country store" is essential as traffic on Laurel Canyon is lively.

Cedar plank salmon is delicious. Great wine selection and romantic decor. Valet parking.

Ambiance and good vibe

By Lesleymitchell73 |

My husband surprised me with this place. It's so under cover , you have to search for it below a liquor store ! Which I loved ! My husband had the steak and I had the lamb shank which we both agreed was by far the better dish. Be warned the appetisers are very filling ! Not small portions ! And we can eat ! My only complaint were the roast potato's. Coming from England I love a good spud that's cooked right and these pre baked new potatoes were not up to scratch and a real let down but the ambiance and good service including the amazing lamb that fell off the bone made up for its short comings. The place needs a touch up and it's falling apart in area's. In fact where we sat their was tape holding something together but it was dark and low lit, perfect date night or with friends xx Service was great and the manager checked in too which we appreciated as we were celebrating .

Super disappointing!

By David Marino |

We were really excited to eat here with our friends but it turned into a disappointing evening. First, the restaurant is extremely dark and its virtually impossible to read the menus without an iPhone flashlight. Second, they were out of three white wines we were interested in buying. Given that there white wine list is extremely limited to begin with, this was completely unprofessional. Our squash blossom appetizer was completely over cooked, but it was difficult to tell until we bit into it as the restaurant is so dark you can't see the food--maybe that's their strategy--as was my friend's lasagna, which was literally black singed around the edges. My wife also had a bad clam in her linguine entrée and is paying for it the day after. The service was good, but nothing extraordinary. I would give this place a hard pass.

My favorite neighborhood spot, charm for miles!

By Andrea Desiree |

I love this place to the point I would probably dine nightly if I could. Laurel Canyon is by far the best neighborhood, rich in history and character. The lobster ravioli is to die for, the lasagna fresh and rich, and the lava chocolate cake is a must. The atmosphere is romantic, quiet, and inviting. Just love this place!

!!

By buckrael |

I was recently in Los Angeles and was looking for a restaurant close to the Roosevelt Hotel area that was not tragically hip and unreasonably spendy. PACE is the place! I loved the very casual, sort of hippiesh vibe inside and out. It's usually crowded, so make sure you have reservations. There is a tiny bar that is not very comfortable for waiting for your dinner time, so don't arrive too early. The menu is varied with salads, sides, wood fires pizzas and house made pasta dishes. We shares a caesar salad, pizza and a pasta dish-everything was sooooo delissh!! The pasta dish especially, tagliatelli with procuitto and was was perfection. I have a soft heart for wood-fired pizza and this one is great with many topping options and combinations. The service was great! It's a cool spot to see celebs and models. Parking can be troublesome.

Fantastic food, impecable service

By Nectars1 |

My friend, who is a local LA resident, recommended this place and we never would have found it if we were just driving around looking for a place to eat. I ate here twice in 4 days and both times the food and service were fantastic. The first time I had a pasta dish made with butternut squash and mustard greens. To die for. The second time I had the cedar plank salmon. Again, to die for. The chocolate cake, which we had to order with our meals, was light and incredibly rich. I cannot recommend this place enough. Our glasses always had water, we were treated like VIPs, the atmosphere is great. It's a dark restaurant, eclectic decor, and a great soundtrack was playing both times I visited. Bonus: The first night I was seated at the next table over from Meryl Streep. And the second bonus is that the house right across from the restaurant is Jim Morrison's old house. I am from the East so I don't know when I'll be back, but I'll never forget Pace!

Good, but pricey

By CTgirl77 |

My family dined at Pace during a recent trip to LA. The food was good (I ordered the cedar plank salmon, which was quite tasty), but we felt that the prices were exorbitant for food that wasn’t exceptional. We did enjoy the ambiance (and the comfortable seating), however.

My Favorite!

By Teri P |

I really could eat here every day. The food is fantastic! Love the lasagna, the ribs, the pizzas, and each and every fish they serve in a lemon caper sauce! They have an excellent wine list and the atmosphere is perfect. Depending on your mood (and the weather), choose between a table inside or one on the outdoor patio. . .both are perfect. I always bring my out-of-town guests here and they've never been disappointed. And go ahead. . .get the chocolate souffle. Trust me, it's worth it!

Not as good as I remembered

By twns4me |

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. We went again on a recent trip to Los Angeles and its not as good as it used to be. The rib-eye was over done and the spinach was over cooked. They do have a great selection of red wines.

Great Italian restaurant

By mjswansona |

We visited several weeks ago while on a business trip to LA. One of our group got a recommendation to eat here. When we mentioned it to the concierge at the hotel he was surprised that we knew about the restaurant as it’s not a typical tourist place. The restaurant is very unpretentious on the outside and the inside is rather eclectic with a variety of sizes of tables, etc. We had a group of nine and we had two waiters for our table - the waitstaff were phenomenal. I had their Maine lobster pasta special which was excellent- I would have liked it to have a little more lobster but it was quite tasty. One person in our party had the cedar planked salmon and he was very pleased with his entree. We ordered two of the chocolate cakes that are kind of like a lava cake - these are to die for!! I got a crepe brûlée for dessert that was excellent. We made our night here into a high end dining experience with the accompanying significant bill but you can make this a much cheaper outing by just ordering pizza and a side salad. I look forward to the opportunity to bring my wife and daughter here some time.

escape in LA

By NAKraus |

wonderful ambiance, good food. nice escape in LA though I wouldn't say this is "authentic" Italian but still very good.

Great evening

By Stephen L |

For us it's all about the seating. Last time we didn't enjoy being by the road. This time much better in the restaurant. Food excellent. Place really interesting. Staff great. Recommended.

Nice italian -bio food

By woulf |

From the outside one wouldn't suspect it's such a nice place. Nice service, a good choice of wines and the pastas were just perfect. Try the rigatoni salsiccia ;) Pizzas are also a nice choice However, was a bit disappointed by the dessert, maybe because we had to order it at the beginning of the meal (so came great expectations...). You can easily pass on the hot chocolate cake, IMO. Meats are all antibiotic and hormone free.

OK, but nothing special - and not cheap

By ESB-UK |

We were taken by a friend, whose regular Pace has been for many a long year and though it's a real pain to get to from us (nearly 2 hours for an early evening table), we were really looking forward to it. Service was very good - clearly they knew our host - but the food was very average. The boss had the fish special ("white fish" with white beans), and I had one of my favourites, linguine vongole. I've had many that were much better. Ah well ... Also, be warned, first timers ... watch out for the entry as the restaurant is really hidden away behind a grocery store - you just can't see it from the road - from either direction!

Great food, wine, service and ambiance.

By afinley1 |

We were staying at a home across the street and arrived late and very hungry. We sat at the bar, enjoyed one of the best pizzas I've ever had, and a few glasses of wine. They accommodated my husband by creating a vegan pizza for him. There were star sightings, but it was such a chill place, it felt really normal. I love places that are comfortable and full of character at the same time - this was great. We wound up talking to the manager and ordering food for a small party we were hosting the following night. They were incredibly easy to work with - had everything ready right on time. Our guests loved the food, too. I would highly recommend Pace.

Unexpected great place

By rndeb81 |

My boyfriend took me there 2 weeks ago on a Sat night for dinner. Had a special crab salad with green goddess dressing- so good. Their bread is also quite good. I had their cedar plank salmon and that was the best salmon I have had in a long time. Excellent waitress and overall service. My water glass was always full and plates cleared promptly. I will definitely go back. Only downside is their locale and parking.

Great Food and Wonderful Ambiance

By Isabel S |

I have had several delicious meals here in the last couple of months. I have tried several entrees, soups, salads, pizzas and desserts, I would recommend all of them. This is a cozy little restaurant tucked into busy Laurel Canyon, but you would never know that once you are inside. Enjoy!

Gotta try it

By D H |

Great food, great ambience. Salmon was my favorite dish, Service was spot on. Unique place that you should try out when in LA

Nice enough but wouldn't go back

Long, long drive for us from Venice Beach ... friendly staff, nice menu. Felt quite rushed though. Good choice if you're in the area, I imagine, as I didn't see anywhere else to eat!

Pace LA – Simple, flavorful and very satisfying

By Jon Leer |

I had the most delectable dinner the other night with my son at Pace on Laurel Canyon Blvd., LA. Simple, flavorful and very satisfying. Who wouldn’t be satisfied when starting the evening like we did? Me with a Montepulciano vino and une bier for my son, as we started with Italian bread and oil. It was easy to get excited looking over the extensive menu. We quickly devised a creative dinner for the two of us for this fine evening in LA. Our primo was a fabulous salad, insalata cesare with hearts of romaine and radicchio with an incredible home-made caesar dressing. As the last bite of crisp romaine was savored, our server brought us our secondo plates. Tagliatelle con piselli e prosciutto, with homemade tagliatelle. And accompanied by english peas and prosciutto, in light white wine cream sauce. Another amazing dish arrived, rigatoni alla salsiccia and peperoni arrostiti, which translates to homemade ground sausage and roasted peppers in vodka tomato cream sauce. What an unbelievable salty and spicy sausage! Too bad you can’t buy that for your home cucina. And as if two courses weren’t enough, we added a third with a grilled Niman Ranch, grass fed, prime ribeye 57 that was prime cut & seasoned with Mediterranean Sea salt, on a bed of Flora Bella farm arugula. OMG, that was really good! Thanks for a wonderful experience!

A hidden but excellent dining experience

By EL_Oslo |

A friend in LA recommended us to eat at the Pace up in Laurel Canyon. Very hidden if you are a foreign tourist like us, but navigation or a taxi will take you there. Make sure you book a table in advance, since it apparently is very popular. We came half an hour early, but accepted a table on the patio. Superb service, and the food was just delicious. Highly recommended if you like organic, home-made and italian style cousine. http://www.peaceinthecanyon.com/

Laurel Canyon Landmark

By jocon111 |

Ate there with my family on Labor Day weekend. We ate all over the menu and loved every dish. Tagliatelle was perfect. My wife had one of the pizzas which was huge and delicious. Our waitress was great and recommended a "super Tuscan" wine that was fantastic. Service is friendly and professional. Valet parking which you should use because it's impossible to park on very busy street.

My absolute favorite restaurant in LA!

By MooshLA |

Not sure why I haven't written a review of Pace as its actually my favorite restaurant in LA and has been for years. The food, atmosphere and service are top notch all around. Cozy, quaint, quiet and memorable on each visit. My absolute favorite dish...hands down the cedar planked salmon with two sides that I rotate around. The best starter salads in town and a wine list to savor. Never had a bad experience here and I've tried most things that I can eat on the menu given that I'm a pescatarian. Definitely worth a visit and you too may fall in love while in this historic Canyon.

Handled 11 people with professional tact

Post graduation brought 3 generations of a blended family for a great food experience. Sitting at a long table was a problem of hearing all, against the loud sounds of people enjoying each others company. The specialty salmon on a plank was fabulous.

Dinner with the fam

By Gibbo1969 |

This place is just down the road from where my daughter and her man live and they recommended it to us. It was good but not great. I had the lobster ravioli that was lacking in flavour and some seasoning. Wife had the chicken and was generally a bit underwhelmed . We shared the Zeus pizza and that was delicious. All in all it was pretty good but not cheap and I was a little disappointed

Amazing restaurant but pricey!

By canyonmom |

This restaurant has an authentic European feel. Dim lights, arty decor and packed every night. Very romantic but there are kids eating there too (does not detract). Food is great, wine selection good and service is outstanding - our waiter Maurizio was brilliant. My only complaint is the prices - they seem a little high and there were no budget price wines - cheapest Pinot by the glass was $14 and cheapest bottle was $40. Also when our bill came, they charged us extra for the scoop of ice cream which came included with the desert. Everyone should try this place once just to see it as it is gorgeous. Would come here for a special occasion but there are more affordable options for regular dining.

A gorgeous hidden gem

By Sidney W |

Pace is not your typical restaurant, tucked away underneath a boutique grocery in a residential bend in shady Laurel Canyon. The interior if cozy and beautifully-decorated with B&W photos of classic rock stars throughout. (You are of course greeted by a picture of Joni.) Fresh, elegant and simply-prepared Italian fare lets quality ingredients shine, Service is professional, friendly and quick. The wine list won't disappoint and the clientele seemed the most interesting of any place we've dined in LA so far. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.

The chocolate soufflé cake is to DIE for!! It really is one of the best I've ever had. You have to order it before your meal, so they can bake it...it comes out piping hot, runny with chocolate, and covered in ice cream....fantastic!

incredible hidden gem in LA

By Jeff C |

I had second thoughts about reviewing Pace (pa-chay) because I didn't want this place to be discovered by the masses. WOW, coolest restaurant I've seen in LA. Old hippie looking place attached to a general store in gorgeous area. Exposed brick walls, wrought iron, etc., very intimate setting, superior service from reception to finish. One of the best meals we've had anywhere, really. Atmosphere and food quality and service were perfect.

Birthday Dinner

By Safiyyah O |

I know there are tons of places to eat in LA but I was having a difficult time finding the right place for dinner until I found Pace. Pace was THE perfect place for my husband’s dinner. It was intimate, romantic and the food was good. I made reservations the week prior and I do recommend doing that. We started off with a glass of wine and a mixed green salad that was sooo delicious. It included apples, nuts, cheese and an amazing dressing. I ordered the salmon, risotto, and kale. My husband had the lobster ravioli and it was really good. For dessert we had bread pudding and OMG it was warm and tasty. For his birthday they provided us complimentary cookies and they were fresh and good. The staff was really, really, really nice. On multiple occasions they wished my husband a happy birthday. It’s those touches that made the experience exceptional.

Romantic but downgraded.

By TPhage |

Good Italian food but very greasy. Dripping with oil even with roasted vegetables. The ambiance is very nice. Romantic. Great date place. They don't give you fountain drinks anymore. Now they are making you pay for the glass Coca Cola bottles. Kinda tacky. Used to go there before and they were better.

And the real deal, it's been here for ages! Always great food Ambience and ok service. I love to go up in the hills for a local dinner among friends - highly recommend it but don't tell everyone:)!!!

Yummy and Local

By Star G |

Loved it, had no idea about Laurel Canyon and this restaurant. So it was a nice surprise. All the food was yummy! Ambiance is nice but it can get a little loud. Best to go in a small group, 4 or less...otherwise it's tough to hear everyone.

Love this place

I insist on eating here every time I visit my daughter. I love the atmosphere, food, and service. The lava cake for dessert is a must!

Only good pizza in LA!

By ChristyMichelle16 |

Came here on Saturday for a birthday dinner with friends. Ordered 2 pizzas to start, the mamma g and the Hercules. Both great, the mamma g was amazing! Also had the artichoke salad which was great! The service was fabulous and the ambiance is warm and unique. I had their house specialty- the salmon. I wasn't impressed. Too fishy and just overall not great in flavor. The taste stayed in my mouth all night unfortunately, even though I ate only a few bites. The chocolate cake which must be ordered in advance was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

I rarely rate restaurants so you know it must have been special!

By Marius40 |

While I am big on hotel reviews, I rarely post anything on restaurants. However, a friend who used to live in LA recommended it and we were not disappointed. This is a small "neighborhood" place on Laurel Canyon about 3/4 mile north of Hollywood Ave. If you miss the entrance to the parking ($5.00 valet) and about the only option then turning around and getting back down Laurel Canyon Road (which we did eventually) is quite the production. Once inside, it is a homey, comfortable place with at least a couple of dining rooms and a heated patio. There were three of us and we all had the highly recommended Cedar Plank Salmon ($26) which comes with a choice of two sides. All of the sides were excellent. Mine were spinach and root vegetables which was awesome. Olives and walnuts (complimentary) start the meal and a thick bread with a bean dipping sauce are also included. Three dinners and three glasses of wine were $130 tip included. We talked with the manager, Scott, who was very informative. A very nice experience and we will be back. Cheers. Marius

Sceney, great setting, good food with some standouts

By TruebritSingapore |

My daughter booked a table outside when I was in town visiting. Fortunately, we were outside the main restaurant, not the additional area by the laundromat. As we checked in, the hostess took us through the restaurant which was very homely and beautifully done, as well as a very cool bar area. Staff: Excellent, 'though a little confusing as to who was looking after the table..it varied Atmosphere: Excellent. Recommend both in and out, and I'd definitely try bar seating Food: Apps - Smoked salmon and shave fennel salad was very good Scampi piccanti was absolute fantastic, one of the best things we've had Mains - My daughter said her cedar wood grilled salmon was outstanding My red snapper was excellent Dessert - We pre ordered the chocolate souffle (has to be ordered immediately), which frankly was just ok, and honestly not very souffle like Scene: There were at least 2 x actresses there on a Saturday evening, if that's your thing Price: $250 for 2 with a bottle of red Would certainly go again.

Nice find

By RenieLav |

We were staying in Laurel Canyon and found this little Italian restaurant. Cozy and romantic atmosphere. The service was good. It was a bit dark making it difficult to read menus. Our food and wine were good, but the quality wasn't quite comparable to the prices we paid. I would like to go back and try the pizza- looked marvelous.

Quaint hidden gem, fresh local ingredients

By Curiouspb |

What a great place to dine or order takeout. Thanks to the LA locals for directing us to this great restaurant. Megan our waitress was great at helping us with our menu selections and keeping up with our drinks and needs. Thanks for the great service and tips Megan! I ordered the homemade lasagna and the noodles were nice and thinly rolled, just the way I prefer my lasagna. My husband ordered the grass fed prime rib eye. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cook exactly as he requested. He also ordered the piece pie and the pizza was very good, thick crust, I prefer a thin crust, so I ate around the crust and so did my husband. The sauce was very good. All in all a hidden gem with a homey interior, the patio had brick walls and we loved our quiet table, very private and out of the way, just as we preferred. For dessert I ordered the Creme Brûlée, loved it.. Also you must try there hibiscus tea, now that we could drink by the gallons, careful though it does have caffeine.

Stay away from the pizza!!

By Ularu |

Dined at Pace after a glowing recommendation, my wife had the wood grilled salmon and loved it but I tried the pizza, a vegetarian version with potato and beans. It was truly awful, dripping in oil and the waiter's response to being told it was too oily - "oh maybe because the chef adds oil". Beware the PACE pizza!!

A very unique dining experience

By Mako159 |

We celebrated my wife’s birthday at Pace’ and it’s a true unique experience. A big part of the allure is that unless you know about Pace’, you never would know about it. It is located literally behind the Country Store on Laurel Canyon Blvd. I’ve driven by this place dozens of times and didn’t even know it existed. Food is good, not great but it’s really the atmosphere that make it appealing. It’s a very romantic place, very dimly lit and the decor is eclectic to say the least. It has all the atmosphere of the Canyon, with it defined vibe. The walls are covered with cool art pieces but the best is all of the hand drawings from customers that were made using the crayons drawn on the paper table covering. Sounds weird, right? Trust me, the art is not your kids drawings of stick figures at Chucky Cheese. Some of the work is amazing. Remember that this is home country for so many artists and rock stars. Warning, parking is a challenge. It was a great experience for my family especially since we went to see “Echo in the Canyon” the next day. This is an amazing documentary about the Canyon and all of the early rock legendary bands/stars that lived in the Canyon during the 60’s - Buffalo Springfield, Mamas & the Papas, David Crosby, etc. Dining at Pace’ set the mood and made it so relevant.

Cosy dinner with great Food shame about the service

By Beccy C |

The hostess was very accommodating - we were short stay renting a place just a few streets away and decided to drop in and see about a table at this place following recommendations. Hostess found us a table with ten minutes and was very smiley (not at all as other reviewers have stated). The waiter was just ok he didn't seem to want to hear our order which was quite simple / plenty for two and he tried to add items we didn't want ... He then insisted we ordered a chocolate cake which takes 25 mins to cook without advising on the other options. When we said we'll see how we go and take a look at dessert post meal he put the dessert menu at the end of the table. I told him thanks looks good / we would order post meal- he seemed annoyed. I didn't understand this who orders dessert before appetisers! The wine was good and the food great, please make sure someone orders the salmon in your party so you can at least try it!! Really lovely.

used to go here all the time after the rudeness of the manager I won't go again

By Lisalove127 |

I used to go here all the time after the rudeness of the manager I won't go as often. Sadly. I loved this place and told a lot of people from movie productions to come here. Then this happened sadly. I wanted to do some take out, and they had delivered to my address multiple times. The house in question is right across the street from "their delivery zone" I get that people get busy and cranky I really do, but from the manager not acceptable. I had him on speakerphone and my friends were so shocked how he was dealing with me. I was having a craving as well. Fun how this craving is totally gone for my palate now. I won't be telling people to drive out of their way to go here anymore, as I can't risk somebody/ anybody to be treated like this. I told the manager that I would meet the driver in the delivery zone, hence leaving my friends at my house and going out of my way to make their way Easier. He refused. There's a million of great restaurants in LA there's even more great little places. Go to any one of them.

Great place, great atmosphere away from the madness of downtown LA

Great place for dinner, very rustic, the food was great, don't normally eat pasta but the fresh pasta dish I had was really good, would definitely go again. Reasonable wine list the Proseco was good value. Liked the cheese board we had to finish

Think we were unlucky, great atmosphere, food not so good

By Babyblackbird |

Was really looking forward to dinner at Pace, had been recommended and was glad to have got a table reservation. On arrival the small restaurant was almost full already with people waiting for tables in the entrance area, it had a good buzzy atmosphere. The food disappointed though, and perhaps I chose badly - I had rigatoni with a tomato & italian sausage sauce. When served, the sauce was hot but the pasta cold (I know restaurants have the pasta pre-cooked then quickly reheat to serve with the sauce, but clearly this pasta had not seen boiling water in some time). It was sent back, and a new dish arrived in good time. However, it just didn't taste that good unfortunately, very bland and uninspiring. My starter was pretty ordinary too. Overall not a good meal, but others in the restaurant seemed to be really enjoying it so think I was unlucky. As a result, I would go again if asked, but wouldn't recommend to a friend.

Tasty, Farm Fresh Organic Foods, Awesome Pizza Crust, Great Wines

By shakeitsgreat |

Pace (pronounced "Pah-chay") is an Italian/American style restaurant that prepares its fine dinner selections with local organic ingredients mostly purchased at local farmer's markets. The menu features fresh made pastas, grilled entrees and unique pizza creations on hand made crusts. The restaurant is located underneath the Laurel Canyon Country Store and is the only restaurant in the Hollywood Hills. Pace is located at the bottom of Laurel Canyon, just before the road starts up the hill. Parking is valet only for $5 - enter the lot just passed the traffic light - if you miss it, you'll have to do a u-turn at Mullholland. Reservations are highly recommended, but you can usually get in on any weekday or Sunday if you call before you leave home. They are only open for dinner starting at 5:30. The outdoor patio is very romantic with candles and heaters for cooler nights. Like other reviewers have mentioned, their cedar plank grilled salmon is excellent, as is their other grilled entree's - wanna go healthy? Try the Legno Chicken - it takes a great chef to make chicken interesting again. Their mixed green and chopped salad are also excellent - made with fresh crisp veggies. Pastas are made on site daily, so no over-boiled mush noodles. They also feature a wide selection of wines - they carry about 10-12 wines by the glass that change throughout the year. I am also a big fan of their pizza - some of the best pizza crust in LA. According to my server, the dough is made fresh on site and had tossed to order. The crust has a crunch to it, but is soft and chewy inside. Their pizzas are served 'Sicilian-Style', or rectangle shaped, although their To-Go pizzas are the traditional round shape. I am partial to the Sicilian, since the dough is a little thicker. check out their pizzas on their menu - they have all sorts of interesting toppings like Potato and Fennel. There is also a rumored 'Secret Menu' with combos like prosciutto and arugula. I consider this more of a fancy, take-a-date type, spot, but a couple can leave there full for under $25 without beverages if you stick to salad and pizza. On the other hand, you could easily break the bank with a group of hungry people ordering multiple courses and bottles of wine.

A disappointing experience recently

By TLWhite |

We always have dinner at Pace when we visit LA and consider it one of our favorite restaurants in general. We visited with a large group on the Monday evening during the week of New Year's and had a less than average experience overall. First of all there was live music this time (never had live music when we visited Pace in the past) and while the music was nice (jazz), it was very loud so we had a hard time hearing/talking. Secondly, the service was very slow, our meals took over an hour! Thirdly, most guests in our party were less than impressed with the taste and quality of their meals. Not sure if it was just an 'off night' for Pace but with the menu prices as such, slow service and sub-par meals shouldn't be acceptable.

Interesting decor, great food!

By razz_01 |

Restaurant is in an interesting location in the Hollywood hills right off of the busy laurel canyon. We were seated immediately with reservations of course. I loved the ambiance and décor. Food and wine was spectacular! Service was great! Would definitely return to this adorable place and would recommend to anyone!

Birthday Dinner

By Bill P |

We flew to LA to visit friends and family for my Girlfriends Birthday. We made reservations, were seated right on time, and had a fantastic meal. Great wine, unpretentious setting, great service, great meal. This is an Italian restaurant but the food selection was diverse and everyone enjoyed everything we ordered. We brought a birthday cake and were able to light the candles and serve the cake for dessert. We were extremely pleased with our selection. Not inexpensive but worth it. Recommended if you are in the area.

Great ambiance

A very good menu with great service . Ambience was great . A very cool place for older couples. No complaints at all except no card machine at the table !!

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere!

By LizGage |

Such a cool place. Quality, organic food. My hubby said it's his favorite meal of our trip. He had the haddock special. I had the aphrodite pie (pizza) which was interesting with the sliced potatoes on top. Great crust though. We shared the insalata cesare. Do yourself a favor and order the chocolate lava cake. It's made to order so you have to order it when you order your meal in order for it to be ready on time. It was absolutely out of this world. The best I've ever had. Very cool atmosphere. Our only con was that it was a little loud for an intimate couples dinner. Be sure to make reservations. There's valet parking at the store parking above for $6.

good local

Great place tucked away in laurel canyon. california take on italian food. make sure to get the chocolate cake for dessert. pastas tend to be a little too creamy vs. classic italian. lasagne is a star.

Worst restaurant experience of my life

By DaniKM |

I hate writing negative reviews, really, I do. I would rather focus on the things I love about LA. But after last night's experience at Pace, I have no choice. I have eaten at Pace once every two to three months for the past few years. The food is overpriced and completely mediocre (I don't know how they get away with serving pizza that bad in Los Angeles these days), but it's close to my house and the atmosphere is cute. So it was in the rotation. Now I will never return. Our waitress made a significant mistake with our order. When we attempted to remedy the situation, the manager made a tremendous scene. There would have been many ways to fix the situation to everyone's satisfaction, but instead the manager yelled at us and told us that "if we don't know about wine, we shouldn't order it"! Even after settling on a solution with our table, he returned to yell at us some more and hurtled ridiculous accusations at us (a group of 5 trying to have a nice, quiet birthday dinner for a friend). I've never been treated so poorly by a restaurant staff member in my life. I felt truly terrible that this happened on my friend's birthday and I can certainly never return to an establishment that feels it's acceptable to berate customers.

Good food, bad service

By Ady392 |

We had a romantic dinner and the food was very good, tasty and varied, unfortunately our waiter forgot multiple things throughout and we waited a lo g time in between dishes, also the place is very noisy and the tables crammed together

Great atmosphere; Average Food

By Alaninphoenix |

Arrived on a Wednesday night with no reservations. No tables available but seated at the bar was great. Atmosphere/vibe is very nice: dark, lots of candles, comfortable. The food was ok - - sort of bland. Caesar salad was rather small; not very strong on the Parmesan. The Penne special, again, was not very strong tasting at all. And the prices are high - paying for the vibe and history.

Lovely unexpected place

By Manuela G |

If you don't know that there is a restaurant in this Laurel Canyon stop with supermarket and a couple of other shops you would never just see it. Pace is tucked away on the side but once you are inside the ambiance is lovely, warm and interesting with a great b/w photos collection on the walls and two different areas to sit in. The service is attentive and prompt and you get asked ahead of time if you want the exceptional chocolate lava dessert so that it arrives promptly at the end of your meal. The veal shank was delicious, but so were the salmon and the ribs. The food is well prepared and well served. The name "Pace" (Peace in Italian) suggests an Italian menu but it really has different dishes for every taste and that "California fresh" attitude of choosing good seasonal ingredients. We'll definitely be back!

I was Psyched to Go and Left Disappointed

By Bill F |

I had heard such great things about Pace and it is in such a great historical spot my expectations were high. I had a pasta dish with a sausage sauce. My wife also had a pasta dish --Bolognese. Both were good. My son had baby back ribs that were undercooked. The waitress, Sara, was aloof and unfriendly. She failed to bring one of our apps and was not particularly attentive to us. There was a very high visibility star and her entourage at a nearby table so perhaps we did not rate. Overall OK experience.

Italian Restaurant Hollywood Hills

Travelling from Australia, this was my first dining experience in LA and I'm glad it was. The food was divine and service matched. They even helped me call a taxi after to pick us up!

Quaint place, good atmosphere and good food

By Jerry B |

The feel of a Midwestern brick building, cozy, great decor, with some table having bench sits with pillow cushions to sit back against. Small bar of about 5 or 6 chairs but good to have a drink while you wait for you dinner mates. Food was good and the specials with truffles can be expensive, but they are upfront with the costs, so no surprise if you order it. My date and I stayed there for quite a while after we dined and they didn't rush us out or seem to mind

Worth a trip...

By Donna255100 |

As we were driving from Santa Monica it took almost 1.5hours to get to Pace on a Tuesday night! We called the restaurant twice to keep them updated & they were very understanding, which was much appreciated. We were seated at a great table close by the kitchen, our server was friendly & very accommodating to all of our requests. We ordered the salmon & skirt steak special of the night. Both were perfectly cooked & good portion size, we enjoyed every single mouthful. We also enjoyed some great reds by the glass, a limited selection but the ones we chose were perfectly suited to what we'd ordered. Great ambiance & atmosphere, would definitely go back, fun times at Pace!!!

PACE A Delight!

I was just there last week with a favorite friend. The food, service, and atmosphere were lovely. Tucked away, casually sophisticated, and just perfect sound quality to have a conversation with your dinner partner!

OLD L.A. NOSTALGIA

By Francis M |

The location occupied by Pace has a long history. When I first came to LA, the surrounding area of Laurel Canyon was the home of ex-hippies and rockers and every other house seemed to have a young long-haired man sitting cross-legged in the street, trying to assemble the oily parts of a Harley engine. In those days, Pace's premises were a late-night hangout of last resort for those Angelenos who would rather make the trek up the canyon than end their evening before midnight. Well, that Laurel Canyon has gone, the scruffy little houses have all been shined up with granite kitchens and parked BMWs. When I arrived there for dinner with a group of friends the other night, I was astonished to recognize the parking valet and even more astonished that he remembered me from a couple of decades back. Jim Morrison's old house is catty corner to the restaurant and has been re-modeled out of all recognition – and so has the restaurant. The former ill-lit basement serving indifferent food has been replaced by a spiffy Italian restaurant. The windowless rooms have been brightened up, even the floor has – and the wobbly tables are a distant memory! The menu is extensive, with excellent specials. I had a fine pasta, a penne arrabiata with an as-meant-to-be very spicy sauce, the penne correctly al dente, and I also scrounged a big helping of a delicious branzino from a friend. It's not gourmet food, or 'fine dining', thank goodness, but it's tasty and geuine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, a little more so if you speak Spanish as all Americans should, guiding tyros through the dishes they don't know. This is not a quiet place, but neither is it deafening, and it's a pleasure to walk in there at 10:30 pm as we did and find the room and the kitchen still full of life. I'll be going back.

Fabulous restaurant

By Kathryn A |

We arrived without a reservation on a busy 4th of July weekend and the place was packed but the very efficient and friendly staff managed to find us a table after a short wait. It is very noisy and very dark but has a fabulous ambience and there's lots to look at. We had pizza and pasta and both were fabulous and big serves, the pasta is made on site and is very tasty. May I suggest butterscotch pudding for dessert, it was delicious.

Average food...nice ambiance

By JK_BarRoomQueen |

I wanted to love this place but found is disappointing. The food was average and the service over zealous, we felt very rushed. I had lasagna which was a lot of pasta and not much meat - the one i buy in my local supermarket was better. The starters were better although my husbands soup was luke warm. It is expensive for what it is.

LOVE THIS PLACE. The food is fantastic, the service top notch and it's set in the bottom of a canyon and once you are inside you feel as if you are in a cozy, romantic restaurant in Italy. It takes you away from the fast pace of LA.

Off the charts food, service and ambiance

By Leslie B |

I could eat here weekly. Maybe daily. Pace perfects a wonderful dining experience. Cozy place for dinner. The food was perfection. Minestrone was chock full of veggies yet a great choice for a first course. Red snapper had a light flavorful sauce with capers and lemon. Yum. Bolognese pasta was delicious. And the service- attentive and knowledgeable. And I left my cell phone at the table so they came running to my car to return it. And i left my glasses at the table so they called me. I plan to go back.

Cool vibe and good food

Come for the vibe leave hungry

By max noce |

Terrible food, I don’t know how it got so many 5 stars on apps but this place ought to be changed in the kitchen and in the front. Keep the bus boys but the rest can easily be replaced by better staff. The food was horrible. Horrible. As an Italian I can say a kid can cook better than this. Avoid at all cost. Our pastas were compd because I said something, most people won’t. I will never be back unless it changes mgmt, cooks and waiters. Sad.

A hidden treasure!

By ACNJ |

Not easy to find but well worth the drive. Genuine Italien food at it's best. I recommend the Linguini Alle Vongole and just about everything on the dessert menu. Food 5 Service 5 Atmosphere 5

Great Laurel Canyon Joint with History

By Lytta |

My only complaint is we had to wait for over an hour for a table even though we had a reservation. But when we did get seated the food was fantastic, the ambiance is cozy and energetic. The hippie past of the place is evident throughout the restaurant. It's also a great place for celebrity spotting. An L.A. gem.

Great service and food. Intimate. Wine okay.

By Outofdodge_10 |

I'm giving Pace 4 stars because it's such a small place with a great atmosphere. I had the infused pasta with lobster and truffle special and it was fabulous. A friend had the pizza and that was very good. Another friend had a steak and it was overcooked, so it had to be sent back. The salmon that another friend ordered was very good, as well. The desserts were below average. The wine was just okay. There are three places to sit… in the main dining area, outside on the patio (I like it, but make sure I'm toward the back away from Laurel Canyon or the cars bother me) or a small room if you walk just to the left as you walk in. Personally, I wouldn't sit there. It's lively and fun for a group, but great for a date, as well.

Avoid!!

By Roger G |

Amateur staff with a management who are incapable of recognising or apologising for any of their failures, including worms in the food. Yes, that is right, LIVE WORMS in the food. Avoid at all costs of you want to stay healthy as it is better to go hungry.

Another one, only vallet parking, Italian

By Vindens |

Another one of those hip restaurant that everyone needs to go to. Parking is only vallet, since Laurel Canyon is what it is. The food was decent, had a dry Lasagna that tasted good, but small portion, italian beer was really good though. Some of my friends know about the latest and greatest and where to eat and what is good on every menu, they wanted to go here. Not a place for me though. I am tired of this stuff, valet parking and LA chique. I want something authentic and real. If you are new to LA and into this stuff you will love it.

Laurel Canyon hidden treasure

By Wrldtraveler365 |

This restaurant is located at the bottom of the infamous Laurel Canyon. ITs Barely noticeable to the naked eye from the roadside. As you enter the establishment, you enter underground to a dark and vibey cool wine bar/ restaurant. The menu offers an arrangement of organic salads, pizzas, pastas and a great organic wine selection to choose from. All the food was very tasty and fresh and also affordable. A great spot for drinks, but they only sell wine and beer. parking is 5.00 valet, unless you are lucky enough to find street parking.

A Laurel Canyon Gem

By LA_Native |

My husband & I live in Laurel Canyon, and have Pace deliver to our home. The food is always outstanding! It is sometimes difficult for us to go out to eat, since we have a toddler, especially for a really nice meal. We just had a wonderful Mother's Day meal: mussels in a scrumptious broth with delicious herbed bread for dipping, fresh grilled salmon, roasted baby potatoes, fresh green beans, seared ahi, roasted root vegetables, and a lovely pizza with an amazing crust. You could really taste how fresh the mozzarella was. To top off the meal, we also had fresh berries with hand-whipped cream...It was and always is so tasty. The restaurant uses organic, fresh vegetables. If you eat in, it is quaint and picturesque. A very special place, and always hopping...You can check out their menu at Peaceinthecanyon.

Delicious and Real Italian!!!

By Joanitaylor |

PACE (Pa-che) is such a cool place. You must reserve. It was late and packed. You can order the chocolate molten cake right away so you aren't waiting. I have read it's delicious but we just couldn't do another bite after our meal. I had the beat salad and it didn't disappoint. A great beginning. Then I had the Spaghetti Alla Bolognese which had the nice pieces of melting mozzarella throughout. Service was excellent and we left full and happy. Another great restaurant. The only drawback for me was the music. Somehow to us it just didn't go with the atmosphere at all.

Great food

By louisianagal |

My husband stumbled across this place and wanted to eat here because of the atmosphere. It's kind of like a cave since it sits underneath the store. Aside from the waitress asking if we were from Oklahoma (the horror!), this was a nice evening. And we didn't really mind the Oklahoma guess. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. My husband and a friend each got a pizza. They could have split one, but the pizza was so good that I think they were thrilled they each had their own. Minestrone soup was delicious.

Consistently delicious cedar wood plank grilled salmon!

By VisionaryFineArtist |

I had already been here twice, in less than a 2 month time frame. Nestled near the base of Laurel Canyon (north of Sunset Blvd)- it can be easy to drive by without ever noticing it. Inside - so quaint, rustic, dim, intimate, secluded, and romantic. Both times, I ordered the highly recommended flavorful, moist tasting cedar wood plank grilled salmon ever!!! A must... and very healthful too.. :-) Definitely worth the $26, since it is so uniquely prepared. I would say it's their signature dish! Tonight was the third time here - for a special double date dinner! Their unsweetened cranberry iced tea and tart, natural, and refreshing! We enjoyed the complimentary almonds and green olives... Then, they served us soft fluffy tomato bread with a dipping sauce, very delicious and enjoyable. Our couple friends shared the tomatoes with red onions salad. We all shared the delicious Hera's Pie (mushroom pesto pizza), very yummy! They got the ravioli d'aragosta (lobster ravioli) dish, and the spaghetti alla bolognese (spaghetti with meat sauce) dish, and enjoyed their dishes. Of course, my date and I each ordered our favorite Pace signature dish - the cedar wood plank grilled salmon. It is consistently tender, moist, fresh, subtly smokey, very flavorful with the shallots and herb seasoning!!! It comes with 2 sides - I opted for the sauteed kale (healthful), and the yummy roasted root vegetables (very delicious!) We shared the salmon with our friends, and they were each very impressed the salmon's moist, smokey flavors. We will definitely be back again soon..

I'm not gonna say too much about this restaurant I'm kicking myself for even letting you know about it but it is so great it is so outstanding it is sometimes away. Smile on me because I have let you know

Great food in an awesome place.

The food is fabulous, the place is non-pretentious and very cool and the staff is friendly and efficient. My favorite appetizer are the mussels...to die for!...and the salmon is probably the most deilcious I've ever had. Nevermind the chocolate souffle with molten hot chocolate in the center...OMG! I can't imagine not having fun at this restaurant. And there's a bar, too.

Tasty and Fun

Currently I am visiting in Calif, and relatives invited me to a local restaurant. The tasty food and fun time, and very generous treatment by our waiter made me happy to know that one day I plan to move here. The menu had a number of mouthwatering choices and the appetizer I chose, shrimp, white beans , zucchini and tomatoes soup did not disappoint. The shrimp were plentiful and succulent and the many flavors in the soup were delicious. If this were an entree I would be happy. The entree, tortellini di zucca was very pleasant. The atmosphere was one of happy noise, people out having a good time. Our attentive and courteous waiter certainly added to the enjoyment. Again, to illustrate the good service,I am a big water drinker and each time my glass was a bit empty the busboy stopped to top it off. A little detail, but one that often goes unattended.

Such a cool vibe and outstanding food

We started going here a few months ago and it is not one of our standbys. I'm sure there are other places like this in LA but I've not been to a more relaxed, bohemian, just plain cool place...and they "bring it" on the food. Also the wine pricing is pretty good too.

For a hidden gem, rather packed

Book a table! Book a table! So, let's bunk a myth first: portions are not small. We stayed in an Airbnb close to the restaurant and had decided to visit it one night before leaving LA. It happened to be Saturday and so walking in without a reservation we had the options to wait, eat at a communal table or eat at the bar. Our hostess was rather keen for us to sit at the bar so we did, I mean, the food will still be the same. I read a review before going which complained a pasta dish being small so I was a bit cautious. The perk of sitting at the bar was that I had straight line of sight to the kitchen and the pasta dishes were not small. I suppose the reviewer there was either eating with a ladle or ordered the ravioli which, at least to my experience, are small. I had the neptune's pie aka salmon pizza and some olives to take the edge of hunger away. Olives were good, nice marinade and the romano cheese with them was a nice addition. Nothing really to write home about though, an ok thing to nibble. The pizza on the other hand was remarkable. It came with a base of sour cream and cold smoked salmon on top. Now, I don't actually like cold smoked salmon that much but the chef here changed my mind. So good! Pizza itself was huge and I wasn't able to finish it all so I took the rest home with me, it will be my breakfast. Yum! My better half ordered the pasta arrabiata and it was just right; al dente to the core and tasty. I'm not sure why it was called pennette since it was penne but what do I know. Sauce was chunky with bits of tomato and came with a bit of a kick, delish! But book in advance, the restaurant is quite big and was jam packed.

Great pizza

This is a nice Italian restaurant just off of Sunset Blvd. The pizza crust is superb. The pastas are nice. The only problem is the noise level and the fact that the space is small and crowded; but that is L.A. The service was excellent.

Really cozy italian restaurant

Loved the interior and feeling here, it was really authentic and cozy. The food was really good also and I had a truffle pizza we shared and then a tortellini pasta that tasted great.

Something for everyone. Nice selection of salads, pastas, pizzas, meat and fish dishes. You can't go wrong with any of the daily special either. What ever you order ask for it Scotty style . He's the manager. Sometimes that might mean extra meat sauce. Huge selection of wine and desserts. Not just tiramisu. If I could I'd go again next week! Wish I had taken some pictures to submit.

Superb pizza

Superb pizza, well garnished, tasty, huge (it's possible to share it for two, if you're not "hugely" hungry). The dough was a little worse but for the USA, I must say it was a nice surprise. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very cool and the service very friendly and professional. I would happily go back!

Food Was Amazing - Atmosphere Fine - Prices (Wow)

By 1bike |

We had a large party at Pace and really had a great meal. Everything tasted amazing. Lot's of choices and almost all tempting to try. Everything about the meal and the atmosphere was excellent. My only disappointment was the final bill. Not just an expensive place to eat, but a really expensive place to eat. For us 5 (part of the large party) we spent $350, only two of us had drinks and we split two deserts. So yes this was a wow. The food was really good, but I was not expecting that for the atmosphere. Oh, and be careful in the parking. It's nuts there.

Great Place

I love Pace!! I live in Atlanta and every time I come to visit my son and his family I insist on going to Pace. Great food, great location, lots of fun. They are especially kind when I order gift certificates for Christmas presents. We have also gotten take out and delivery service and it is exceptional!!
