Another positive experience!

By miscmail21455 |

We had an excellent lunch at Paesano’s at its great location on the Riverwalk during our first visit to San Antonio one year ago. Our next visit this year in June was for dinner on a Friday night. The place was packed for understandable reasons! High quality food and service. Good selections of appetizers, entrees, and wine. Ernest, our server, was friendly and attentive despite the busy night. Keith, the very cordial Assistant GM, stopped by our table several times to ensure we were enjoying the dinner. Only negative is that the seats are wood without any cushion. Recommend making reservations (we did) or you may have a wait … there was a line outside the restaurant. We will return again.

We will revisit again.

Cane in for New Years experience at the Riverwalk. Had a relaxing mid-afternoon bite. Our waiter Carlos was excellent. He was very familiar with the menu and gave us time to browse the menu. He was very kind and noted the unstable table we sat at right away and moved us to a stable table. He was warm and friendly.

Good food but poor service

By Explorer043 |

This is a very busy Italian restaurant on Riverwalk. Food was good. Service was slow and impersonal. The food was good but a fine dining experience this is not. Their main concern is turning over tables.

Should have gone to Olive Garden!

By Eric L |

Absolutely horrible experience. It started with the wrong wine being served, then the Caesar salad which was so dry and lacking any flavor. Continuing on the veal piccata had the sauce in the side and it was heavily breaded instead of just dredged in flour over dry spaghetti. The place is a very nice on the river and comfortable. We weren’t looking for excellent Italian but, note to self” When visiting Texas, stick to the beef”

Over rated, over priced

By BahamaBreezeGirl |

The location is nice and we were seated right away. It was all downhill from there on. We were a party of 7 trying to compromise and make everyone happy. The children were satisfied with overpriced spaghetti and pizza. I wasn’t very hungry but looked forward to the bread. It was fine but the oil was rancid, no one finished a piece. The Margherita Pizza was full priced and tasted like a child’s pizza, thick crust no flavor. The grilled veggies were OK. The gluten free pizza was burned. The service was not up to par, but it was prom night. I could never get the server’s attention, who did not ask about a second drink. The restrooms were flooding and unusable. We paid a small fortune and would have had a better meal at a chain restaurant. We are here on business for an extended period and will never go back.

Delicious. Olive oil cheese for bread

By Stephanie D |

Delicious. Olive oil and cheese dipping sauce for fresh bread could have been my meal. It was delicious. Food is great Italian. Try to sit outside. Enjoyed atmosphere

Amazing view, food and service

By hph213 |

We loved our experience at Paesanos. We sat on the riverwalk and it was a beautiful patio. Both of our meals were delicious and warm. Our server, Lorie, was kind, polite and helpful with providing recommendations. She was also funny and kept us laughing. 5 stars for a riverwalk spot!

Great Food and Drinks!

By Troy W |

Stopped in for an appetizer on a recommendation from a local. Ordered the Shrimp Paesano it was by far one of the best shrimp appetizers we have had, the sauce was amazing. Had a Manhattan which was perfect and loved the shrimp so much stayed for dinner. Sat at the bar, can't remember the bartenders name but he has been like 22 years, all his food recommendations and drinks were perfect!

Server Anthony is awesome!!

By Wuggzz |

Pizza was tasty, shrimp pasta was good. But our server Anthony was awesome. Would go back just to get him again. Made the night worth eating there. Hard to find servers that are above and beyond these days, always make the sit down more enjoyable 👌

Valentines Day Set Menu

By Josh M |

Made a reservation for the Valentines Day set dinner. I generally love set menus for special occasions but the price of $65 person for what was offered as well as the quality was way over priced. The set menu offered the option of either a small cup of lobster bisque soup or a very small Caesar salad, a good number of decent portioned dinners, and a slide of chocolate cake with two chocolate dipped strawberries. I ordered the lobster bisque which was well seasoned but the actual lobster pieces were so fine you could hardly tell they were in the soup. They would do well to include even just one decent size piece of lobster claw in the soup even as a garnish. My partner ordered for his main course the 12oz strip steak, which came with what was called lobster pasta on the menu but was essentially lobster Mac and cheese, and two asparagus stalks. His steak was cooked perfectly but for $65 they should go with a better cut of meat. Even a small filet. I ordered a pasta dish with parmesan crusted chicken and two pan fried shrimp in a buttery lemon sauce. The chicken and shrimp was delicious but both of our pastas were overcooked and flavorless. My guess is there was no salt added to the water. The chocolate cake was probably the best part of the dinner. It was moist and has one of the most delicious butter cream frostings I’ve ever had. We also ordered a bottle of wine and ended the meal with espresso. Overall, I’d give this experience a 3 out of 5. Our service was quite good, although two servers managed to pronounce espresso and EXpresso, which might be a sign there needs to be some training on menu items. Also, the set menu offered an optional appetizer of crab cakes for an additional $16, which we declined to add. Finally, we were seated outdoors near the host station and had the unfortunate experience of seeing and hearing many interested diners walk away when told by the hosts the cost of the set menu. Set menus are great but this one was not up to par. For $130, before the cost of wine, the meal should have at least included an appetizer and better cuts of meat. We’ll probably seek a different Valentines dinner spot next year, although will probably go back for maybe a lunch.

Great Italian place on the riverwalk.

By marxbk18 |

I was solo so I was able to be seated at the bar right away. The moscato was amazing. I was given bread and olive oil as soon as I sat down. I ordered spaghetti and meat sauce and it was delivered very quickly. The sauce did have a bit of a kick to it but that is just how I like it so I was very satisfied. The price wasn’t bad at all for how popular it is here. If I come back to San Antonio I will definitely be back.

Great food and ambience by the Riverwalk

By Ginger M |

We have been once before when visiting San Antonio and looked forward to coming back. Ironically seated at the same table by the river as before. Our waiter Nathan was very attentive. The Veal Picatta was very good. Try not to get filled up on the delicious bread and olive oil...it's so good!

"Legendary" food was expensive and bad

By Paradise Lost |

The food was expensive like expected on the Riverwalk, but seemed like reheated frozen meals. I got the "legendary" shells, that had very little meat and were warmish/cold spot. Wife and daughters came out hot, but tasted like salt. The "legendary" garlic cheese bread was the funniest thing, because I swear it tasted like 90s frozen pizza bites. Service was good is the only reason I have a 3, that was good.

get a salad!!

By Gatecap |

maybe on par with Olive Garden . I will say waiter Jarod was very good, salad also good. my main dish was chicken marsala which was just plain bad . the chicken had an overcooked bread coating at least a quarter inch thick. I tried to scrape it off as best I could. the marsala wine sauce was more like a thick gravy, which I don't believe I have ever seen before. my wife had spaghetti with oil and garlic with shrimp. shrimp pretty good pasta pretty bad. bottom line get a salad or go somewhere else

Fast service, excellent food

By Texasbelle |

My husband and I were hungry and stumbled across this gem. We did not have to wait. We were taken right to a table. We shared the cheese manicotti. It was excellent. They also have us bread with olive oil for dipping. It was awesome as well. Very nice atmosphere and amazing food.

Amazing food, wonderful service, and romantic atmosphere

By Kooloomahwinkblink |

A wonderful romantic restaurant with amazing food. We dined alfresco and highly recommend the shrimp Paesano appetizer. Get the Parmesan crusted chicken it comes with the same lemon butter sauce (that is on the shrimp Paesano) which is absolutely amazing. Everything that we ate was amazing the service was wonderful and the environment was very relaxing and enjoyable.

Don’t order the veal

By C C |

We went on the barge dinner river cruise. Loved the barge cruise and staff was wonderful. 3 of us chose the veal dinner. Very disappointing. Two of the Caesar salads was gobbed in dressing. The “veal Marcella” was deep fried. It was very tough. I had one bite . The other two attempted to eat theirs but stopped after eating about half of it. The pasta served with it was good. There were other choices that looked good ( shrimp) but definitely don’t order the veal! I would suggest taking a river cruise and eating elsewhere on the River Walk.

Upscale Italian place on the River Walk

By Jim W. |

We ate here on our 2nd evening in San Antonio, a Sunday. We had revisited the Alamo to catch up on some things we'd missed in our late-morning visit, and then walked here by around 5:30 p.m. It was getting crowded even then. We did get a table inside. Waitstaff were very attentive. The overall vibe of this place was more 'fine dining', with an up-charge as it was on the River Walk. However, I didn't feel overcharged vs. the service, food, and location. It was sort of dark inside. Everyone in our party found entrees they liked. It was pretty standard pasta fare. Salads and main dishes arrived promptly. There was apparently a wait when we left (before 7 p.m.). My advice would be to come early if you want to dine here without a significant wait. This was a very satisfying meal, in all.

Hire a Paesano's River Walk Dining Barge for the best dining experience of your life ! Enjoy delicious appetizers, drinks, entrees & desserts while floating on your Dining Barge around the colorful lights & festive atmosphere of River Walk. This was the best tasting Italian cuisine everyone in our family had ever tasted. What a spectacular way to dine at San Antonio's #1 Italian Restaurant !

A little disappointing

By Pair 123 |

Lovely spot on the river but food and service lacking for us. Large and extremely loud private party inside made it too loud to sit inside, so that made for a long wait for outside. Waiter stressed out by how busy he was he told us, hence a very poor start to finish. Slow, forgot drinks and bread, cold bread never came till after the meal. Best shrimp I have ever eaten! But pasta cold, even replacement dish. Ossobucco flavorful but also too greasy to eat more than half. Gnocchi very tender. So not quite sure how to rate it. The private party made it over crowded for a monday evening so obviously it is successful but the crowds also caused kitchen and staff problems.

Very expensive restaurant for the quality of the food

By Paula D |

We had the Frutti di Mare, the clam linguine, the salmon and the cheese lasagna with meat sauce. My husband wasn’t thrilled with his plate (frutti di mate). My daughter said the salmon needed more flavor. I tried it and I agree. The lasagna I got was ok, but not what you expect in a lasagna. My other daughter said her clam linguine was good. The food was very expensive and we were not satisfied with the meals. The good thing is that we ate outside and it had a view of the Riverwalk.

Highly recommend

By Amber P |

Stopped here for impromptu dinner. Had no wait. However, we had to sit outside, but they made sure to put a fan right on us. Have a little baby, so I'm very thankful for that. I got the shrimp paesano which was amazing. My husband got spaghetti and meatballs and has been raving about it all vacation lol. So very good place!

Unpleasant staff

By SJo |

We went the Saturday after Christmas and it was busy. The staff that took our reservation seemed like they could have cared less to be there or if we were there. When we finally got seated, our waiter came to the table twice (to get our order and to bring it out) and didn’t ask us if we needed anything else. I was at the table with 2 other adults and a child. My food was good. The chicken tenders that they served the child were cold on the inside-like they were warmed in the microwave. I understand it’s a busy season but take the time necessary to make sure your tables are waited correctly and not make your guest feel like they’re trouble.

Very well worth a visit as long as you are not on a tight budget !

By Stephen H |

The 'Riverwalk' is a great location si anywhere on the Roverwalk starts with a great location review. Follow on gro that with efficient staff - not overly attentive as I have experienced at times in the States - and again the review is good. The ambience within the premises is also good with a with of a cellar vibe and low lighting which works well. Food - excellent. I would not normally attend a place this pricey but you certainly get what you pay for. Four delicious meals - an excellent Lasagne, a fish dish - I forget the details and chicken pasta dishes with the spaghetti being presented in a lemon oil. Absolutely exquisite! Come again ? If I win the lottery !

Good Italian Food on the River Walk

By Tracy T |

Visited for supper on 8/21/21 on a busy Saturday evening. No wait to be seated. Indoor or outdoor seating options. Upscale yet family friendly. Staff was hospitable and very friendly. Restaurant was clean and staff was masked. Order was processed correctly and food was very tasty. Right in the middle of hotels, shopping and attractions in downtown San Antonio. Many parking garages and lots nearby. Great place to refuel when visiting the River Walk. Highly recommend!

Casual Italian

By Nodoor |

We had a pizza and the baked ziti. Both were good, not fabulous. Service was good. I can see where this place would be 3 star instead depending on what you order. We avoided the chicken and meat dishes which tend to not be as good. If you are sick of Tex Mex this is a casual Italian place to eat.

Location better than food!

By Christy R |

Very nice location on the river walk but food was disappointing. Started with bread and dipping oil. Mediocre at best. Spaghetti with meat sauce was just ok. I ordered the veal piccata on linguine. Veal was tough as cubed steak. Could hardly cut it with the knife and was tough to chew. Asked for the manager and told him my concerns with the veal. He offered to first bring another dish or remove the cost of my bill from my meal. Still left with a bad vibe and certainly wishing we had chosen another restaurant. Of course this could have just been a fluke for the restaurant. No idea.

Excellent Service

By DeeFry |

Great cocktails and excellent service. Entrees were okay. Mexican wedding cake was delicious. Nice location on the Riverwalk.

Good hint!

By Leandro M |

I looked for this restaurant with a recommendation from an UBER resident in the city. Nice atmosphere, on the Riverwalk. I sat inside, it was equally good. Italian food with an American feel, but very tasty and well prepared! Kind and very careful staff. I really liked!

Good view bad food.

By foodexpert20122 |

This place has a good location, but the food was pretty bad. I ordered the veal piccata which came out like fried chicken! I had to send it back. Veal piccata is not fried. My boyfriend ordered chicken Parmesan. It was rubbery and seemed microwaved and he owns restaurants! Disappointing for sure. Just a tourist restaurant. Don’t go here unless you want to waste money. Service was good with a nice view. They were kind enough to not charge me for the veal.

LOBSTER RAVIOLI

By Mur018 |

We ended up so happy that we chose to come here for dinner one evening while staying on the Riverwalk. The restaurant is beautiful. Inside or outside dinning. Very clean. Excellent service. And the food was off the chain great. Pure Italian. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food/unfriendly staff

By stephaniemN4160KS |

Paesano’s has delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere. It has a prime location right on the Riverwalk and the serving sizes are enormous. Unfortunately, the service isn’t quite up to the same quality. It was fast but the staff just wasn’t very friendly or welcoming at all.

A Greasy Hot Mess

By Dorene C |

We dined on a Friday night. There were 3 of us and we all ordered Shrimp Paesano and a salad. The breading on the shrimp was a terrible soggy mess, extremely greasy. I had to request extra sauce for my dish, it was oily and had very little of that usually beautiful lemon sauce. The sauce was not the same luxurious lemony sauce we have had in the past, the microwaved warm bread was tasteless. The location off of loop 1604 does this dish as it should be. We were very disappointed with the quality of our food.

signature dish = not

By Michael S |

I rarely give bad reviews because everyone has a bad day, but when I spend 30$ for a plate of food, I have a certain level of expectation. I ordered the namesake dish - Paesano's Shrimp - it was stunningly disappointing. The pasta was not cooked to order.... it had been placed on the plate much much earlier (maybe the day before?) and retained that shape even after the re-heating...like reheated left-overs from your own fridge the next day or three. The shrimp were also reheated, very tough and dry. I ate two of them...the first with anticipation, and the second only because I was hungry. I left the rest along with the pasta. My wife said her dish was underwhelming, but my daughter liked her lasagna. We were planning to hang around and have a couple of drinks and dessert, but after the tough showing for dinner we decided to pull up stakes and find a new place for dessert. The waitress was awesome. You might wonder why I didn't complain to the wait staff? I figured that any chef who plates the pasta in the morning (or the day before) and dishes out pre-made shrimp for their namesake dish already knows exactly what they are serving. They just shouldn't be charging 30$ for it.

Recommended to us

By mike m |

Was recommended to us for the garlic shrimp. Discovered the shrimp were 3 for $15. We found that the menu is limited, has tourist pricing, and our selections were about average quality. The upside is riverwalk side tables. Reservations are necessary for convenience.

An Italian in Texas? They pulled it off!

By CazzaHayes |

For dinner choices, you can't go wrong with Italian (imo) and this is a Texan take on the old country - and it works! The portions are big (huge!) and the service is great. Our freshly prepared food was delivered promptly. Our server was helpful and informative and nothing was too much trouble. The tables are a little small and ours got crowded when we all had bread and glasses as well as the main courses. The place is cavernous! The low ceilings and dark interior can hide just how many diners can be seated but the ambient noise is not overwhelming and tables are not so close together that even if there are lots of people at tables you don't feel crowded. There is also outdoor dining on the river front and these tables have a buzzy vibe as the Riverwalk is a great draw in the evenings.

Anniversary Dinner

By Tom K |

Food was good and staff did not seem to remember use several times, just kept walking around in circles it appeared

10/10

By Viktoria Mitchel |

Our server Mike was phenomenal and made us feel like we belonged there and even helped us choose what food item we might like. The food was the best Italian food we have ever had and it didn’t take long to get the food at all despite them being busy. They make sure that you’re checked on and have everything you need. We chose this as our dinner on our last night in town and it really went out with a bang, very yummy food!

Uninspiring

By Hermesians |

Bland. Overcooked fish. Lots of "cheese" which was nothing like Parmesan. Artichoke hearts were ruined by being crumbed and fried!

Bad Situation turned into a Happy Ending

By Albert S |

We made dinner reservations for 5:45 to insure we had enough time to get to a planned event at 8:00. Jonathan was our server, who was very attentive and polite. The wine was excellent and appetizers good and arrived in a timely manner. The giant calamari is top notch. At this point everything falls apart. 45 minutes after we placed our food order we still had not gotten our salads. By this time we had to get going to make our 8:00 event, so we called the manager to explain the situation. The manager apologized, handled our needs, and we left happy. This is not a bad review on the staff or food. Things happen, especially in this PostCovid world. This review is to state that a bad situation was handled professionally and to our satisfaction. Unfortunately I didn’t get the managers name, I wish I had. He’s an asset to the company, as is Jonathan.

Italian????

By Angel-Trails |

The riverwalk is beautiful, atmosphere and location of this restaurant is pleasant. Waiter seemed pleasant, we felt a little rushed. I ordered Veal Piccata which came on a small bed of white pasta. The Piccata was good, pasta was ok. I asked waiter for cheese for my pasta waiter brought me shaved Mozzarella 😏 My husband ordered Penne Arrabbiata, he got Penne with Artichokes, Calamita olives, zucchini, squash and spinach, the sauce was thick and dark? This was not Penne Arrabbiata but Pasta Primavera, and no we did not sent it back.

Not recommended

By Julie M |

They totally missed part of our order. Service was terrible, but we think it was just our server. 2 dinners were very good while 2 others were over cooked. Pricey for what we ended up with. One of our party was gluten free. She ordered the gluten free garlic bread and it came out as an over cooked pizza. Would not recommend.

The atmosphere is very good.

By あたると遊馬のママ |

I wanted to eat pasta and my search was successful, so I arrived with a stroll along the river. Outside seats are requested and seated. Tourists river-cruising across the promenade come and go, creating a touristic atmosphere. Order Spaghetti with Meatball and Penne Poblano, Caesar Salad mini. Pasta was also mini-sized, but it came with bread, which was a lot for us adults. (Meatballs are also big!) The staff are friendly and don't force themselves. On the way, the cameraman's sister said it was free and came to take two pictures. Later, he brought a printed-out photo. One is free. He also brought three sheets with different baking methods in a backing and said, "How about $36.97?" This is of course optional. The door of the restroom was also made using a mushroom for hygiene, which can be opened and closed with arms and feet, and I liked it. The taste was a little thick, so the bread proceeded, and as a result I was full.

For the money, I’d pick a different place

By Crystal C |

It was a disappointing visit. We went for my daughter’s 20th birthday as a family of 5. First the hostess was rude. Our reservation was for 715 and it was still every bit of 80 degrees in there. Probably hotter but I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. The food was average but I think that the ambiance made it hard to enjoy. The 3rd party person walking around selling photos had terrible timing and even came back to sell us our photos as soon as our food hit the table rather than letting us enjoy our meal. The waiter never brought us any of the included bread and instead charged us for garlic bread, twice. Also, for a “nicer” place, I wasn’t impressed by them not packing our left overs but instead putting a pile of Togo containers on the table for us.

I never knew it existed but it is hard to forget for all the right reasons !

By Famsol67 |

I am travelling in Texas currently. With my wife and American friends I attended this location. I knew it presented as a classy Italian restaurant within the gorgeous "Riverwalk" area of central San Antonio. Alas I do not recall the name of our waiter but he was very efficient. Our starters came out as requested. Both were quite sizeable. The cheesy garlic bread was a meal in itself. The artichoke and spinach dip was new to me but was a delight. Our mains arrived at which point I, and one of our Anerican friends, were completely blown away by the grilled chicken breast on a bed of Lemon Spaghetti. My wife' Lasagne was equally delightful. The red snapper selected by our other American friend was apparently as delightful as the other meals detailed above. The atmosphere is lovely, the food exquisite and the menu range large. It is expensive but this is a fine example of "You get what people."

Great food and service

By tiffers2184 |

Great service and food. Huge portions. We had baked ziti and penne poblano. Kids had alfredo and spaghetti with meatballs. Sangia was delicious too.

Best Italian cuisine

Delish stuffed shells with 2 sauces. House salad fresh and pretty and tasty. Wonderful server. This was the best meal I’ve had in a long time!

Average Riverwalk restaurant

By Gabriel H |

We reserved a table for 15 at Paesano's upon the recommendation of friends and family. Our table was ready when we arrived and our waiter was eager and friendly. The menu offers something for everybody, with a reasonable selection of common Italian dishes. The restaurant was busy, so service was somewhat slow. Perhaps because of the size of our table, there were confusing moments, with several dishes delivered to the wrong diner, and some dishes nobody ordered appearing there too. Most dishes were bland and unexciting, although well-appearing as served. At the end of the day, we fed the entire family, but the meal was definitely not memorable, without anything specifically wrong with the place.

Italian Delight on the Riverwalk

By Debbie P |

We had a lovely dinner here last night during our evacuation from the hurricane. I had the Shrimp Paesano, one of their specials and it was delicious!! My husband had the chicken parmigiana & enjoyed it very much. Great wine list & cocktails.... Lemon Drop Martini was perfect.... & topped off our meal with the Lemoncella cake.... so refreshing!!!

Lovely lunch at Paesano’s

By Baltimorenp |

Went here with a party of 8 for lunch when in town for the eclipse. We were seated outdoors with a view of the Riverwalk, but a little away from the crowds- perfect! Food was great and plentiful- I really enjoyed my pear and gorgonzola salad- everything was fresh, and delicious. The others enjoyed their food as well, ranging from great thin crust pizzas to lobster ravioli. Very reasonably priced for the location (and occasion)! At last, big shout out to our server, O. J.- a true professional, always around when we were looking to order more, great with recommendations, and knowledgeable and personable. A true gem, and Paesano’s is lucky to have him!

If you’re going to have dinner on the Riverwalk….do check this place out!

By Jose B |

First and foremost: this place is in the middle of the tourist trap! If you don’t want to visit or dislike tourist trap areas: this place isn’t for you. However, this review has nothing to do with it being on the Riverwalk. It has to do with the restaurant and my sole experience with the staff/food. Not the area. With that out of the way….the review: My wife, daughter and I decided to do a quick family vacation to San Antonio for a few days. We were gonna do Mexican food the next days for dinner so opted for Italian. The hostess told us it was a 30 min wait vs 3 hours at other places (staffing shortages) which we totally understood. We sat at the bar while waiting for our table and the bartender (didn’t get his name…although super friendly) was really busy, but got ours drinks quickly. Well poured and well made. Got our table in like 20 mins. Our waiter, Vincent, was excellent. Very attentive and knowledgeable. The only reason this place doesn’t get 5-stars is because: cream cheese! We ordered the Spinach Artichoke dip but tasted like, to me, baked cream cheese. Although my daughter disagreed, it was a bit too much. Wife ordered Frutti Di Mare that was amazing! My daughter had Shrimp Paesano which equally as good! I had the special: Pork Chop over risotto! Originally ordered the Osso Bucco but they did have it available. Like I said: no big deal. The Pork Chop=AMAZING!!!! The risotto=CREAM CHEESE! Still good….but a bit too much. However, the Tiramisu……..OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! I’ve had tiramisu all over the place…but this was anther level!! Overall, the average was a 4-star…..although a high 4 star! If you are to have dinner very near your Riverwalk hotel….or just cause you’re on the Riverwalk, go here! We’re coming back! Just cut back, a smidge, on the cream cheese!

Paesanos restaurant

By Lin Lutes |

Good restaurant. We walked from the Riverwalk. Had a table inside you could eat outside too. Made reservation because it was a Sunday night.

I've had better

By Aaron G |

Wanted the veal chop. By 7:00 pm, they had run out. I went with the bone-in pork chop. Very over seasoned and completely overcooked. My wife had the spaghetti with meat sauce. Jarred sauce would tasted better. More is not always better. Over seasoned food is just as inedible. On the positive side, the view of the riverwalk is nice and the place is well decorated. Too bad you can't eat ambiance - it was the only positive thing I can say about this place. Bottom line - eat somewhere else.

Not Italian cuisine from this planet

By boobot1 |

Zero Italian 100% slop. If you're used to eating greasy fast food you might like getting filled up here. This is definitely not authentic Italian food. The place was chaotic and loud.

Service and food not good

By Suélyn K |

We didn't like it. We waited a lot to be served. The food came up in 3 minutes. It was pasta with tomato sauce; it seemed there was no fresh tomato sauce, and the sauce seemed artificial. We didn't recommend it. The meal came before the cutlery. We had to wait and ask to have them. It was frustrating. The service was bad.

Exceptional Dining Experience at Paesanos on the San Antonio Riverwalk!

By Liz E |

Paesanos on the San Antonio Riverwalk is a must-visit for anyone craving an exceptional dining experience! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was impeccable. Our evening started with the Italian Herbs & Cheese Garlic Bread, the perfect start to our meal. I opted for the Lobster Ravioli, and it was nothing short of divine. The Lobster Ravioli with its rich flavor and creamy filling left me satisfied. My friend had the Crab Stuffed Salmon and couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. To complement my meal, I enjoyed a glass of Caposaldo Delle Venezie White Wine, which paired beautifully with my meal. And for dessert, the Tiramisu was the perfect ending - light, creamy, and utterly delicious. A special shoutout to our waiter, Ernest, who provided top-notch service with a smile. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and made our dining experience truly enjoyable. Aaron, the General Manager, also added a nice personal touch to our evening by stopping by our table for a pleasant chat. Overall, Paesanos offers a fantastic combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a beautiful setting on the Riverwalk. Highly recommended!

Excellent service

By RHealy09 |

Had dinner on recommendation of training partner at conclusion of a local conference. Had blackberry mocktail, which was delicious, and seared scallops to start. Scallops were over seared but edible once the burnt parts were cut away. Can recommend the stuffed shells for main course. They were yummy. House bread was nothing special. Consider passing on that. Torta de Nona dessert was lovely and fresh. Hands down the best thing about my experience was my server. He was prompt, attentive, knowledgeable, and very good at dealing with his the difficult customers in his section. Would return and recommend to others.

LOVED!

By fitzhoyt |

We were there with 2 other couples. We ALL thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Wonderful service also. The pasta was great and so were all the other dishes. The bread and oil was on the table almost before we were seated! Great all around & pretty views of the River Walk.

Yummy pizza

By Beth S |

We only needed a small meal but found great pizza. Ordered a Margherita which the waiter said was 10" flat bread. So much cheese that it was really filling. So much cheese that I didn't use much of the good Parmesan that came with it. The food served around us looked very good and people seemed happy. Definitely on my list to visit again.

Oh my, this was very bad, expensive food.

By Bob G |

I had been here previously and the food was good. This experience was simply awful. While some of the food was okay, the pizza was simply awful. The crust on both pizzas did not even appear to be made in house. One pizza, the chicken pesto had dried chicken that was rubbery and pesto that didn't taste much like any decent pesto I have had in the past. The Margherita pizza was SOGGY and did not look like any pizza that we have eaten before. The bread for the table (which we had to ask to get, even though everyone else got it) was the kind of awful that you would not get even in the worst Italian restaurant. We are never going back. When you are paying for over $20 for a pizza, you'd expect at least decent food. This pizza was awful. Dominos pizza is 10x better!

Don't do it

By mbgregory |

We wanted Italian for a change and one dish was bland and tasteless the other like a frozen meal. Service was spotty and we were given some odd tasting parmesan cheese - a let down at this restaurant.

Italian on The Riverwalk SATX

By BamaBabe71 |

We waited 45 mins on a Thursday night, but it went by fast with the people watching lol. We even saw an 2021 Olympic Athlete eating at Paesanos. I ordered a strawberry margarita and the Shrimp Paesano, a house speciality. The shrimp was lightly batter and fried served with spaghetti and a lemon butter garlic sauce. Highly recommend this restaurant

Excellent place for dinner on a beautiful San Antonio evening!

By David S |

Beautiful location along the riverwalk. Outstanding service from Jennilee and most importantly great food. Pizza was a delight and my wife's entree was wonderful (according to her.). Service at the bar pre meal was also very nice with a very attentive and helpful bartender.

Gone down hill!

By Lcameron75 |

We ate here a few years ago and the meal Was delicious, but this time around it was horrible. Food was delivered, for four of us, in less than 10 minutes after ordering. Ravioli portion was tiny and Luke warm. I’m not even sure what the sauce was on the chicken Marsala. Chicken tasted like it was frozen and reheated in a unusually thick brown gravy over a very small portion of ziti. Won’t be back next time we are visiting.

Great Place!

By 556stu |

Good Service, Good Food! Outside Dining! A Beautiful Setting! We'll definitely be back again & highly recommend you do also!

Delicious!!!! Fantastic food, location, and service.

By Mae R |

The restaurant is located right along the riverfront and we were seated outside along the river. We went early and were seated right away. We started with an appetizer sampler. It included shrimp in a white creamy lemon butter sauce, calamari strips, and fried artichoke hearts. It was absolutely delicious. I’ve never had calamari served that way. It was huge pieces. The shrimp were so good. Then, we shared a seafood pasta dish with lobster, scallops, mussels, and shrimp in a creamy white sauce that was fantastic. Everything was perfect and our waiter was attentive.

Good atmosphere, Great Service, Average food

By kranzo |

First of all, if you are going to eat a a restaurant on the Riverwalk, just realize that it is going to cost a bit more than elsewhere. Having said that, this restaurant's prices were not out of line. The service was efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Spencer, our waiter, was definitely a cut above. In my opinion, the food, while well presented, was not anything special. It was not bad, just not something to bring me back. My chicken parmesan was cooked well, but very bland. The pasta was overcooked and seemed as though it had been sitting in a pan of hot water for a long time, which is something I would expect in a good italian restaurant.

San Antonio Gem

By bluebird78133 |

We stopped in for a Sunday dinner during Spring Break. The restaurant was at about half the capacity as usual, but the service was top notch. The drinks were cold, the bread was warm and crusty and the waiter was very cordial and made us feel welcome. We shared the Special Salad and a dinner entrée of Shrimp Paesano. The shrimp is as good as it has always been. Consistent, fresh, and flavorful. The only reason I gave this 4 stars, is the interior has become a bit dingy over the years. A bit of a spruce up would help, but we were just grateful the restaurant had survived covid and all of the cutbacks in tourism.

Started bad, but ended up good

By 338Concerned |

Went here for dinner to celebrate my niece graduating form Nursing College - Summa Cum Laude. When we arrived there was an issue with the seating location but they got that situated. The service was very good from then on. The food was good overall, but my nieces husband and myself had different chicken dishes and both of them were rather dry. Drinks were good and cold.

Worst pasta ever

By Holly S |

This was the worst pasta I have ever had. The Lobster ravioli was so hard on all edges you couldn't even chew it. The flavor was poor and had no lobster just filler cheese. The parmeasen-crusted chicken was terrible. The breading was so thick the chicken was non-existent. The food was like TV dinners, will never recommend it here. WAYYYYY overpriced and no quality.

Reservation for dinner and Cavalier Parade

By PLan977 |

First time to San Antonio and decided to go during Fiest. We got the package here which included dinner and a seat along the river walk to watch the Cavalier Parade. We arrived at 6 p.m. and were seated right away. It was very crowded but our waiter came right over and introduced himself. Service was excellent. I had the Chicken Marsala and the husband had the Veal Parmagine. Both were good. After dinner, we had a reserved chair along the river to watch the parade. It was a great dinner and a fun time.

By rhlambert71 |

Absolutely delicious! The bartender (I wish I could remember his name... he was amazing. He has been there for 22 years) made the best sangria and manhattan martini! The food was incredible! The lemon sauce is so good!!! Don’t mod out on this place!!! A local recommended it to us and I’m so glad they did! The complimentary lemoncello was excellent too!!

Tired and overpriced

By Dianne L |

The appetizer for two had two shrimp, three pieces of calamari, and two hushpuppies stuffed with artichoke - for $17. The fruit and spinach salad had ONE thinly sliced strawberry and half the spinach was decidedly NOT FRESH. Hubs was happy with his clam linguini. The saving grace was our waitress, who was a delight. I would absolutely not return to this place.

Poor food for overpricing.

By Anders Rudy J |

Terribly bad service! Rough waitress who didn't follow us up. The pasta was overcooked, the chicken was dry and the pasta sauce tastes like it comes from a glass in the store. The garlic bread was very good. Just to move on to the next restaurant. Anything else along the riverwalk is better than this place.

Chaotic loud restaurant with plates crashing and manic atmosphere inside.

By babybuny |

Outside was a long wait so we went inside. I was nearly knocked over by a man carrying loads of dishes who didn’t even apologise. Should have been a red flag. Seated in a nice window table and service was very speedy which surprised me as it was so busy. Food was actually very nice and waiter very pleasant. However crashing plates and then more crashing plates and cutlery dropped down hubby’s back made for a very stressful unrelaxing dining experience. A shame as food was quite authentic. Just too manic for us.

Location Location

By risserapp |

Nice restaurant overlooking the River Walk. Fast and efficient service. My wife and I were not super hungry so we split an entree. Lucky we did because it was huge and delicious! Highly recommend for Italian lovers

Great Waiter

By Lisa H |

Wonderful food but what made the evening was our waiter Mike. He was personable, efficient, and gracious. We felt very well taken care of even though we could see how busy he was (the place was packed! )

Disappointing lasagna and poor service

By Kirbyk |

The evening weather was beautiful and the restaurant was fairly crowded which may help explain the basically inattentive service. Wine took 20 minutes to arrive. No conversation with waitstaff who were all business. Very nice Mediterranean salad and good dessert but something was off about the lasagna. Meat Sauce was tasteless and salty. Cheese was non-descript. Noodles were fine but had no supporting cast. Huge portion was like adding insult to injury.

Beat expectations

By HKees |

The general indifference of the hostess had me thinking we were in for an underwhelming experience. However, the food turned out great and the servers were friendly and fairly quick, despite being observably understaffed. Good portions and wide selection of food and spirits.

Great service, good food

By JennyMarie82 |

We had the pleasure of having Anthony as our server. He was very knowledgeable on the menu providing suggestions, had a great personality and provided top notch service. My friend and I both ordered the signature dish lightly battered shrimp on pasta sautéed in lemon butter sauce. I also ordered the garden salad which was served with a delicious house vinaigrette dressing. I was pleased with the meal however the pricing $30 for a bowl of pasta with 5 shrimp is a little high + $6 for salad. That would be my only negative critique.

Great Food w/ Reasonable Prices

By Ashley R |

This is a nice Italian Restaurant right on the river walk. They have a nice sized menu with a good variety of chicken, seafood and pasta. I had the Shrimp Paesanos, which is a crispy shrimp in lemon butter sauce.....delicious. The rest of my party had the osso buco, baked sausage ziti, ravioli and lasagne. Everyone loved there food. The only pricey thing was the wine $13+ for a very small pour. I couldn't give them 5 stars because service was pretty poor. Our waiter couldn't remember who had what or what's on first. Just very unprofessional waiter. I would come back if I was in the area.

Wonderful!

By Maggymuffin |

The staff was super kind and got us seated right away even though we didn't have a reservation (get one - it is a popular place). The food was amazing - the wait staff were helpful, nice, and professional. Back to the food - pizza, the Mediterranean salad, and the pastas were amazing.

Overrated but good for area

By Amy S |

Mediocre Italian, compare to Olive Garden. Waitress was lovely but blaring music from the discoteca next door in the middle of the day made it pretty unappetizing. That being said, it’s probably one of the better places to eat on the Riverwalk.

This business discriminates against disabled individuals needing the assistance of service dogs

By Robert P |

I have a disability requiring monitoring by my service dog, a miniature schnauzer. We made reservations and wished to be seated inside. The manager refused to seat us at which point I showed him a copy of the law stating that my service dog was legally entitled to go ANYWHERE that I could be present, including the interior of a restaurant. He then got an employee by the name of Raul (supposedly one of the chefs) to confront me. Raul pretended to read the card I gave him and said it was a private business that did not need to make an accommodation. THIS WAS CLEARLY CONTRARY TO TEXAS AND FEDERAL LAW PROTECTING AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES. When I explained this to him, he refused to OBEY THE LAW and said he would not accommodate us, at one point directing his goons to remove my autistic son who was peacefully standing up for me and the rest of my family as Raul treated us as second class citizens. I WILL BE REPORTING THIS BUSINESS TO TEXAS AND FEDERAL AGENCIES AS HAVING VIOLATED THE FEDERAL AND TEXAS ADA STATUTES AND ENCOURAGE ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO RESPECT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO REFRAIN FROM DOING BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THEY ACTIVELY AGREE TO COMPLY WITH ALL ASPECTS OF THE ADA.

Great Italian restaurant on the river walk

By Pamela R |

Paesano’s is a great Italian restaurant on the river walk. I got the spagtheei and meatballs. The meatballs were very tendercc bc and flavorful. The caramel cheesecake was creamy and delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Great food even better server

By Tiffany B |

Go for the food. So good and great portions. Our server Michael Fox was awesome. He really took pride in what he did and made our visit great. He offered so many great suggestions while we were in town. Would go back and ask for him again.

Bad food and worse service

By smgervase |

Food was cold and greasy. Waiter didn’t want me to speak to the manager. I continued to complain until he finally said the manager would talk to me. I had to wait almost twenty minutes before the manager arrived.

Good meal right on the Riverwalk

By D&S |

We had a table outside on a warm evening. In the shade, so the temperature wasn't that bad. Special salad was average - way too much dressing. Pork Osso Buco was excellent; pancetta gnocchi and asparagus were well prepared, tasty sides with the dish. Penne all'Arrabbiata was also good, with just the right amount of spiciness. Kudos to our server Julian for good service on a busy night

You would be better off going to Olive Garden

By Speaker222 |

The service was okay but not great, and the food had no authentic flavor, definitely not worth the price. There are a lot better places to eat on the River Walk. I had the seafood soup over pasta. Mainly pasta.

The best experience

By Adriana C |

Best restaurant on the Riverwalk! Great service! The red sauce is amazing on the spaghetti. Waiters make you feel special and are very attentive.

Basics done well

By smrgeog |

For a first timer in San Antonio, it was a little difficult finding the restaurant either from the street or riverwalk level. Part of the issue is the small signage and the crowded riverwalk. There was no problem once I found it, the ambiance was pleasant albeit busy with it being Good Friday. Food was pretty good, calamari had decent size pieces. They do the basics well. Good spaghetti and meatballs. Portions are generous along with great service. Definitely a solid and reliable place to go to.

Stay away from this restaurant.

By carlosfromseattle |

One of the worst restaurants of my life. Except for the beautiful view and kind of decent food, the rest of it was horrible. Stay away from this place. Our server, who was named Nathan has no idea what he was doing. I talked to the manager about that and hope they train him to be at least a real server. I do thank you the manager for listening to me.

Yummy and beautiful views!!

By Danielle Johnson |

Stopped for dinner here and we chose to sit outside. It was beautiful seeing as how it’s on the river walk. This is more of an upscale restaurant so be prepared to spend money! The ravioli and creme brulee was delicious.

Terrible food, disappointing meal.

By Dustin S |

I'm a longtime fan of Parsanos in the Quarry Market, so I was excited to eat at the river location for an impromptu date night/stay cation downtown for the night. I ordered the lobster ravioli and he the lasagna. We also started out meal with the garlic bread for $6. There is no bread included in the meal, as there is at the other locations. All salads are also not included with the meal. This was disappointing given the prices and portions. The bread tasted of garlic powder and not fresh garlic as you would expect from a finer dining establishment. The flavor was off-putting. I asked for a side of the shrimp paesano sauce to dip the bread in. The sauce was also not up to standards. The lobster ravioli was just terrible. Dare I say disgusting. The sauce was a weird pink color and the ravioli were swimming in the sauce. I typically would be thrilled to see this much sauce, but this sauce was gross. I tried wiping it off, but there was just SO much sauce. The interior of the ravioli had a weirdly textured cheese of some sort, and the lobster chunks were overly fishy and rubbery. I couldn't eat it. We will stick with the OG from now on. This location is a never again.

Not a good experience

By txtravelbug7 |

Nice looking restaurant and about it for Italian food on the river, but our experience was to say the least a disappointment. My husband asked for substitution of a sauce on a pasta dish, and the waiter said he thought they could do it in the kitchen but would let us know if it was not possible. Our salads arrived and they were good. Then came dinner...and without the adjustment requested. The dish was literally swimming in lemon butter sauce, and was not going to be edible. We flagged down the waiter to let him know, and after a couple of minutes, he returns to tell us that the response from the kitchen was "we did it right." The food was removed, but my dish sat there getting cold. A manager came to the table and offered to make something else, but we had already waited 30 min. for what did come, and my husband wasn't going to wait that long again, so we ended up sharing the chicken I ordered. Basically both of us left semi hungry. Poor response from management...the replacement food should have already been started before he ever approached the table. The food is mediocre at best, and not worth the hassle.

Appallling

By Martin J N |

Lovely location, appalling food. We had a pleasant afternoon on the river walkway and when we spotted a table for two by the river at this restaurant we grabbed it. The food came almost instantaneously, first a tolerable house salad and then, for me, a lasagna which - seriously - was the worst dish I’ve eaten in 40 years of visiting the USA. My wife’s Primavera was a little better, but we both left most of each dish. A weary waiter made no enquiry as to why reflecting a place which appears not to care.

VERY CLASSY RESTAURANT ON THE DELIGHTFUL RIVERWALK

By alaskan_red |

We reserved well ahead to bag a table at this long-established sophisticated eatery on the beautiful Riverwalk. The food lived up to its delightful romantic setting. Our waiter, Rudy, told us the details of the entrees we were interested in, and our meals were truly outstanding. This is definitely a special place for dinner and prices are fair for the class of establishment.

Good Food, Good Service, Bad Karaoke*

By Mary A |

*Let me explain about the karaoke We were seated on the patio in a beautiful location on the Riverwalk. Service was attentive and we really enjoyed our food (Lobster Ravioli and a huge plate of Garlic Bread). We had a wonderful meal, but the whole time an establishment across the river was broadcasting the karaoke from inside. And those folks were bad! Just not conducive to a nice dinner. But we did laugh a lot with ourselves and the folks dining at adjacent tables!

Food good but service is horrible.

By RC12D |

Decided to give them a try for our anniversary and could not have been more disappointed. We were 30 minutes early to our 3pm reservation and the host seemed annoyed, but we told her we would were fine waiting at the bar till the table was ready - no rush. There were only a few tables taken at that time, and she told us our table was ready literally 5 minutes after while we waited on the first drink at the bar. So, I was not sure why she looked at it as such an inconvenience. Once seated the waiter took his time getting to us and throughout the whole meal was the most inattentive, I think I have every had waiter/waitress ever be. He rarely checked on us and when he did it was so quick we could barely answer. Again, they were not even close to being busy. They offered a free dessert because it was our anniversary but still managed to bring the wrong one. The food was good but would never visit this place much less recommend to anyone!

Good find

By Jason J |

Had the salmon and the wine recommendation. Sat at the bar and had plenty of space. The portions were large and had leftovers.

Just okay.

By BnH230601 |

Very nice location. Waited a half an hour for a table overlooking the river due to staff shortage but hostess was very kind and courteous. Staffing issues are common right now and was not a problem for us. Server wasn't terribly inattentive, but wasn't particularly enthused to have customers. Food was just okay. Price was within reason. Overall just average.

Past its prime

By CdnExPats |

Quite disappointed in Paesano's given all the reviews. It is quite, old, tired and seems to have given up the ghost at bit. While likely quite nice back in the day it is starting to get pretty run down and feels like an other classic tourist trap on the river walk. The food was uninspired and lacked 'love'. The wait staff although very friendly were far from refined. Overall I wouldn't recommend this if you are looking for a higher-end experience.

Cannot recomemd

By Marlin M |

Waitstaff is overloaded. Very slow service, very long wait between appetizers, salads, and meal. When food arrived it was lukewarm, like it had been sitting a while. Extremely overpriced for quality of service and food.

Worth Doing A Review

By Betzy Lee O |

Excellent food, our waiter Alexander was friendly and knowledgeable of their dishes. I enjoyed the chicken parm, cooked to perfection, paired with Caesar salad, and spaghetti. Beautiful experience.

Very Enjoyable

By Sooner62Nation |

Right in the middle of the Riverwalk, whole area was very crowded but our wait was only 35 minutes, clean and dimly lit restaurant, not a fast food place for sure, food was good and service was fast and very efficient,i had the fettucini alfredo and wife had the chicken parma, all cooked perfectly.

Maybe ok for pizza, that’s all.

By tablefor3 |

So totally overpriced. It’s basically a pizza place serving very expensive sub-par entrees. Garden-variety veal parmigiana was $30 plus $6 for a house salad. Tourist trap.

Great Food! Nice Atmosphere

By John R |

Very busy. We were seated immediately, but took a minute to be acknowledged. The server assigned to our table seemed to lack a bit, but the other servers were on top of the game! Drinks were never refilled, had to ask for our check. This was not tipical of the other servers. The food was very good and served with warm bread, definitely would visit again.

San Antonio dinner

By Patricia S |

They had me at the bread! Wine and drink menu had a lot of variety. The food menu had tons of variety. Service was excellent. Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Good Italian on The Riverwalk

By Leonard L |

We were planning to have dinner one evening but it was closed for a private party. We went for linch a couple of days later before heading to the airport to leave town. Paesano's is a competent but not outstanding Italian restaurant in the American style. The best part is the ambiance of The Riverwalk.

Italian on the Riverwalk

By MIbeachgirl |

This Italian restaurant on the river walk was packed, but we didn’t have to wait more than a couple of minutes. The server we had, a woman whose name I wished I knew, seemed to be talking care of half of the large dining area. She was a pro! She was efficient and professional and kept things moving at a good pace. Not too fast and not too slow. The food was ok. Our pizza was quite hot and the salads nicely done. Could use a bit more Italian flavor/spices. The menu was quite extensive.

Careful of Riverwalk Restaurant

By Out diving |

After reading all of the reviews it sounded like a great place to try. We were really disappointed in dinner tonight, The food when it came out was luke warm. Our server was really good at first but got a large table and felt like we were forgotten. The dessert tasted like last night left overs.

Yikes

By Sarah M |

We are easy going, not picky and not food snobs for sure but our dinner was just awful. Not sure how you can make chicken parm bland. Tasted like a boiled chicken breast with cheese slapped on. What a waste of $100

Great food on the river walk!

By Patti F |

We had a great dinner here while on the River Walk. Our service was good and the vodka lemonade drink was totally refreshing. We were there during a heat wave and since we didn’t have a reservation, we had to eat outside. The fans made it comfortable. The pasta primavera was excellent and big enough to split even though our server said he didn’t think so! Advise you to make a reservation!

Better not even between

By gemamolina |

Not the truth. I recommend, we entered with great expectation and left disappointed. The baddest lasagna I've ever eaten and the very artificial penis pasta sauce.

Excellent food and hospitality.

By Suzanne M |

When it first looked as if a same-day reservation wasn’t possible, Paesano’s worked with us to accommodate our reunion party of 16 on a very busy night. Our server, Julian, was very impressive, gracious, informative, accurate, and efficient. Even when two additional people arrived, he took it all in stride. Never intrusive, he somehow managed to keep our water glasses full and drink orders coming. Our food arrived promptly and at once, except for one entree that the chef ordered remade because he wasn’t happy with the preparation — a plus in my book. Everything was delicious from appetizers to dessert. Portion sizes were very generous. And it’s a beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend.

Horrible service and too expensive

By Sam |

It took almost half an hour to get our appetizers and then another half an hour to get our meals. The steak was mostly gristle and definitely not worth $40. The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because the manager realized the problems and comped the appetizers and the steak. Since this is on the Riverwalk and is aimed at tourists, they definitely need to upgrade their service.

The meal was excellent, the waitress both were awesome, I gave it 4 due to the hostess, she is not friendly at all,

By Leon H |

Excellent food, great location, waitress were great however the hostess was very unfriendly and has poor communication skills

Really good upscale casual Italian restaurant

By kwagmeister |

We enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant, and were happy to see it relatively busy during this crazy covid season. Staff are abiding by all precautions so we felt very safe dining here. You may choose inside or outside - they do have heaters. The wine list was better than we expected - we did not have high expectations so were pleased. Each of the four of us was pleased with our entrees, which arrived hot, were obviously very fresh from the kitchen, and had excellent taste. The salads were crispy and also very fresh. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Interesting Experience

By Delmar M |

Paesano's is located on the River Walk and has inside and outside dinning. The bread was good but the oil was so bitter. The cheese didn't help cut the taste. The house salad was very good. I ordered the Lasagna with meat sauce. Serving size was large but the taste was bland, which is typical of many Italian restaurants. We will not return. It's definitely not American Italian food. The wife ordered Spaghetti and meat balls and it was good but definitely bland. I ate one meatball and the taste was okay. My wife's spaghetti is much better and my grandmothers spaghetti is the excellent. Martin did a great job as our waiter. Overall, we expected more from the food. The front desk recommended this restaurant. Outside seating is huge with a great view of the River Walk. The price of a single glass of wine is very expensive, better to buy a bottle as suggested by Martin. If your looking for Italian food with a kick, look else where. Finally, we felt rushed The food was delivered on a timely basis with no delays. For a big restaurant with a huge crowd that night, that is impressive. Overall we just felt rushed.

Overpriced and slightly disappointing experience

By Hjallese |

The overall experience didn’t quite live up to the price. I had a flavorful pasta dish, but the portion felt unbalanced — too much sauce and not enough pasta. One odd aspect was the seating: the restaurant had four lovely tables right by the river, all of which remained empty throughout our meal. We were told they weren’t available, but it was never clear why, which felt a bit frustrating. Service was attentive, but perhaps a bit too much so — our waiter was overly eager in encouraging us to order more wine and extras, which felt slightly pushy rather than hospitable.

Good food in a loud crowded space

By Gina R |

Reservations are necessary. Hostess needs customer service training. Waitress was excellent. Food was good but overpriced.

Italian flavors in the Riverwalk

By Chas87714 |

Very convenient location along the Riverwalk. We ordered the lasagna, and added itialian sausage. It was well prepared, with great flavors.

Great location, food, and staff!

By miscmail21455 |

Our first visit to San Antonio. Stopped at Paesano’s for lunch and had a very pleasant experience. The restaurant has an excellent location, great food and staff. Keith, the Assistant GM, was friendly and accommodating. Nice place to see the water taxis go by and people watch on the river walk. We will return.

Italian Dinner Date night

By Rebecca B |

We had a great experience. We just happened to pass by and saw open tables outside and asked if we could sit down. We were seated right by the water. Our waiter, Xavier, was awesome. He was friendly, helpful, and very attentive. We had the manicotti and Mediterranean salad.

Good in Parts

By anecessaryevil |

The hostess was a bit short with other diners. The grilled artichoke was amazing. The house bread was terrible- from a freezer. The shrimp were also great !! The view was good in the deep shade. Its a laminated menu place but worth it for shrimp and artichoke.

Meh food and service, nice location

By The-Randall-Clan |

Meh food and service, but a nice location. The risotto was undercooked and way too creamy. The bread was served with olive oil lacking any flavor other than olive oil (add some balsamic vinegar to make it decent or ask for butter). The pork chop was cooked nicely. The "speciality" shrimp meal was good, good size shrimp. The veal marsala was good. Overall, average food, fair service, nice location, big bill. If in the mood for Italian and in that area, not a lot of options.

Very Nice Experience

By Steven L |

We dined at Paesano's on the night before Thanksgiving. The place was packed, but we still had our food arrive promptly. Service was excellent. We had a couple special requests which the kitchen expertly accommodated. Great location, right at the bend in the River Walk. Great opportunity to watch people or the boats travel by. Recommend a visit!

Was hoping for a good appetizer

By Chris B |

Got a free appetizer ticket from our hotel, went to get it and was told it was for some dessert instead. Bought the appetizer for two, should have just left. Calamari was strips and chewy, the two shrimp were covered in butter which you can do at home, and the artichoke balls were bland with a lot of oil from the fryer. Also tried the tiramisu which was okay, costco has a better one. Needless to say, we did not order any other food. The service during a slow time of day was very slow and when you said thank you, you got no response. I would highly recommend going somewhere else to spend that kind of money. Sad since we had high hopes based on ratings.

Terrible, go elsewhere

By pkdesign |

The food was mediocre at best. The romaine lettuce used in the caesar salad was yellow, mostly from the innermost part of the head, and looked like it was a day from spoiling. I am mad we didn’t send it back. The tomato sauce was too thick, almost like tomato paste, and too sweet. The chicken in the parmigiana was over fried and dry. The shells in my dish had dried up parts that were either not cooked or burnt from the oven. Both of us had stomach issues later in the day. If you’ve ever had really good Italian, you would know this is not good at all.

Phenomenal for gluten free!!

By Strawberry1981TX |

This was the best meal we had in SA. I informed the bartender I was gluten free and he got the executive chef for me to talk to. He was able to walk me through how they could accommodate an amazing appetizer, pizza and seafood pasta that was absolutely amazing! We went days ago and are still talking about it! The executive chef said when he took over 3 years ago, his goal was to create a menu that was able to accommodate people with celiac disease. Mission accomplished!!

Unpleasant review

By Mayra G |

We just had a very unpleasant experience with your hostess Lori she was rude and not willing to help. We had a large party land were willing to separate in order to experience your dining. She condescending told me “we don’t separate parties” and they didn’t have any availability because all the tables were reserved. I saw a table for 5 people walk up and with no problem get one of the empty tables. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. Customer service goes a long way.

Mediocre food with a view

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I had dinner here as we came to San Antonio for a wedding and wanted to have dinner on the famous Riverwalk. We made reservations (a must as we saw other would-be diners turned away), but the view was the only real charm. Our server (Anthony) was friendly, but this restaurant--like so many others--is understaffed. We had the worst Caesar salad we've had in our lives: flavorless Romaine. The entrée we shared (Shrimp Paesano) was drowning in butter. The only thing that saved the dinner was the frozen Bellini and the Saldo Chenin Blanc we shared.

Totally amazing restaurant!

By Steve H |

The restaurant, the wait staff, the river walk, and of course he food. Could not have had a more perfect evening.

Visit Paesano’s!

By Deborah K |

My husband and visited SA and took a drizzly walk from our hotel along the Riverwalk. We were thrilled with our meals. Our server brought warm bread and seasoned oil immediately. We started with the (signature dish) Shrimp Paesano appetizer, perfectly breaded and delicious. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs with meat sauce, and my husband had the osso bucco. Both entrees were perfectly cooked and delicious! The gelato was the perfect ending. We need to give a special shout-out to our server, Elyssa. She was attentive, professional, and knowledgable in her recommendations…from wine to dessert. She certainly helped to make the evening.

From the beautiful setting, exceptional service, and amazing food…Paesano’s was absolutely amazing! The calamari was recommended to us, it was next level tasty. Every one of us loved our dinner!

Nice Italian Place Right on the Riverwalk

By Deon |

Very good restaurant with outstanding Italian Food. Only issue we had was that we were seated by a family of 10 or so, that had a very loud obnoxious grandmother in it who was so loud, our waiter had to repeat things multiple times in order to be heard. It was not just us who had these thoughts, it was obvious the couple next to us wished they were seated elsewhere. I wish I had asked to be seated somewhere other than inside, due to this ladies inability to command some self control over her speech and high pitched laughter. I am not a prude, but man, this did get to me. The waiter and food was outstanding! The pecan crusted chicken over their Mediterranean salad was nicely done and I would recommend it to anyone.

Delicious Italian restaurant

Excellent Italian restaurant. Try the Mediterranean salad, delicious. The lasagna is spectacular and the ravioli with lobster, of the best

Thoroughly enjoyed our late night dining experience. Ample servings with attentive wait staff. If you’re in the mood for fine Italian dining, choose this one.

Average Food, Great Service

By The World is My Oyster |

Had dinner there Friday night, and loved the cozy riverwalk atmosphere. Our server Nathan was so polite, and super professional. Sadly, the food was overpriced, and very blend. My lobster ravioli would've been better with a white sauce, as the marinara didn't pair well.

Special - food, service, atmosphere, and easy location.

By cherylburnside |

Had dinner reservation here before theatre date. The hostess was warm, professional, and helped ratchet up our expectations, all of which were met. Our food was excellent. The pear salad was a perfect beginning, cheese manicotti and chicken Marsala were fabulous. Our server Nathan was informative, friendly, responsive to our requests, helped with wine suggestion, and made our dinner lovely. Easy access - right on the Riverwalk. Worth seeking out!

Loved it

By Flyfish |

We picked this restaurant from the dozens on the riverwalk. We liked the ambience and the reviews were pretty good. The service was quick, the waiter was amazing, the food was great and the value was execllent. We would certainly recommend this if you are looking for a change from mexican.

Nice Italian place by the river walk

By Moreno_chicago |

Stopped by in a business trip. Loved their frutti di mare pasta with white sauce, zesty and with the right flavor. Service was so so but also very crowded so you can’t blame them

Great place!

Hidden gem of San Antonio! We had dinner with friends and this place was a hidden gem in the SAT area. The meal was great and we had a great evening with great service.

Calamari prepared like a pro

By Larissa C |

Great atmosphere, service and food. Restaurant is on the riverwalk with both indoor and outdoor seating. The calamari appetizer was probably best I've had, which says a lot for a girl raised in California. We also ordered the seafood, pasta special. Beautifully seasoned lobster tail, jumbo shrimp and decent sized scallops. Enjoyed it so much, returning again tonight.

Highly recommend - best on Riverwalk

By JenRed2014 |

Wow! We ate inside at the bar for a very late dinner/appetizer after having a hard time getting a table elsewhere on the Riverwalk. (We actually walked out of another restaurant after being seated and waiting forever to even be greeted). Our Riverwalk disappointment quickly turned to pleasure! An extremely attentive bartender served us and made perfect appetizer recommendations. One dish was the sampler platter with shrimp and calamari flats. The calamari was outstanding! I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially above all the sub par food offered at other Riverwalk options capitalizing mainly on the view.

Was expecting more

By Garlan P |

Paesano's has a good reputation as an upscale establishment along the Riverwalk, so I was excited to try it. The menu was fairly large, and the dishes looked very good. The service was good, as we were seated promptly and waited on efficiently. The dinner rolls were unremarkable, but both of us enjoyed our salads; fresh and crisp. My dinner date had the Shrimp Paesano and I ordered the Cappelini Pomodoro Crudo. Both dishes were mediocre at best. The servings were generously loaded with pasta/filler, and a little less loaded with the essentials. For the cost of the meal, I was expecting much more. I'll consider it a lesson learned and look for another Italian restaurant in the future. OH, the after dinner cappuccinos we had were excellent!

Spoiler alert - Beware of unexpected closures!

By Dawn C |

We were anticipating a nice Sunday dinner at the Riverwalk but when we arrived we were informed that they were CLOSED for a private event. We were turned away hungry with no suggestions for alternatives. This also happens at other places in SA but this by far was the biggest DISAPPOINTMENT.

Over priced Olive Garden

By Candice B |

We were able to get in very easily, however the inside was closed, so it was pretty hot eating the entire time. Food was not worth the price. Was lord like an over priced Olive Garden, the seafood fettuccine had canned clams that were very disappointing. Would not recommend.

Treat yourself to Paisano

By blessed |

We went to Paisano’s last night for dinner. It was a breath of fresh air. The waiter was fantastic and I got the shrimp with the garlic lemon spaghetti. This is a signature dish for 50 years at this place. If you’re on the Riverwalk and you want some quality food in a nice ambience. I highly suggest you go.

I’ll be back!

Had a wonderful dinner starting with parmesan crusted artichoke hearts and then ending with a pizza. Simple but very good. Our server Brandon was exceptional. Would definitely go back.

Two good meals

By Jeffrey Jones |

My wife ordered the eggplant Parmesan and told me it was the best she'd ever had. I ordered the lasagna, and wish it had more meat sauce… It was plenty saucy, but it was more of the mushy red sauce… I personally like meat in my lasagna better. It was still good, but that would've made it great. All the dishes that I saw looked outstanding, and I would recommend this restaurant.

Solid Italian - Struggling with Staffing

By AggieTraveler10 |

We showed up right at 5pm, the listed opening time, but we had to wait until 530 because only 2 of the normal 5 cooks had showed up, according to our waiter. The Location, Ambiance, and Service were first rate. We could barely understand our waiter due to his mask, but he made up for it with attentive service and personality. We enjoyed a salad, manicotti, Red Snapper, margaritas, and the spinach dip. Most dishes were well done, with the exception of the Snapper. The portion was generous, however, the fish was a little overdone and the rice it was served with was so overcooked that it might as well have been a dried out cilantro lime porridge. The flavor was good. In general, nothing we had was adventurous - the aim seems to be comfort food that isn't too offensive to anyone. If you are a foodie, this isn't the place for you, but you don't really go to the Riverwalk for the great food. I would probably rate lower, based on the quality of the food, if I wasn't aware of the staffing. It has to be brutal to prep and then service an immediate rush at less than 50% strength. I have to assume things are better when fully staffed.

No notice cancelation

After planning for weeks on a trip to San Antonio fir Valentines Day, special clothes purchased, hotel reservations at a luxury hotel, driving for 4 hours to get here, this place closes with 2 hours notice before the reservation time because its cold out. Unbelievable. Will never go there again

Great Italian on the Riverwalk

By cabtabsab |

Visited this restaurant with a friend during our girls weekend in San Antonio. I had Chicken Marsala and it was very good. It was a big portion and I couldn’t eat it all. Also had red sangria drink which was tasty. Our server was very polite and attentive. Wasn’t a big fan of the bread but other than that everything was great and I would visit again.

Really pretty mid

By Brian J |

Wasn't super impressed with our dinner visit. Bruschetta crostini was pretty stale. Fresh tomatoes would have been nice with it. Lobster bisque a little salty, not much else going on there. Really appreciated strong gluten free options, knowledgable ... we counted on that going in based on GF info resources. Snapper was probably the best of the bunch. Drinks were fine. ... All just pretty mid.

Great Italian dining on the River

By Brian M |

My wife and I dined here on the 4th of July. Our waiter Ken was attentive and very friendly. We ordered caprese to start and it was quite good. I ordered the pasta fruit di mare as an entree and my wife had the crab stuffed salmon. Both meals were excellent. For those looking for a solid Italian meal, served by an attentive staff and located on the river there's no better choice.

Must visit! Especially if you are gluten free!!!

By Jennifer B |

They were amazing. James took terrific care of us. If you are gluten free this is the place to go! They had me at garlic cheese bread! We got a bit turned around on the Riverwalk but they were super gracious when we arrived almost 15 minutes late. Had a cocktail while we waited for our table to be ready. I had a French 75 with Hendricks and hubs had a Negroni with Hendricks. Bartender was great!!! When they seated us they left a little card congratulating us on our anniversary. Everyone after that wished us happy anniversary. We shared the gluten-free grilled calamari and the gluten-free garlic cheese bread as an app. The calamari was soon tender! Both sauces were excellent in different ways. The marinara had a touch of spice and the more mayo based sauce a nice tang. We also shared the special salad. It was so refreshing. The dressing was light and tangy. So enjoyed the hearts of palm and artichoke. I had the penne arriabata and hubs had the snapper. The penne is huge!!! I wouldn't have finished even if I hadn't eaten anything else! We, embarrassingly, used all the fresh parm they brought us. So fresh and yummy too!!! Hubs kept sneaking bites and raving about the mushrooms. He kindly asked if they could do the snapper gluten-free too. So they grilled it instead of the usual breading and pan fring. It was amazing. This place is all around 10 for me: ambiance, service and food! Ask for James. He's the best!!!!

Nice Italian Restaurant in San Antonio

Nice food! Great service! Prices goes along with the quality and quantity of servings. Is a nice place to go with family. Definitely, I will comeback.

Ordered the manicotti, this time. Very good!

By doobie10 |

Had a couple bottles of Shiner. Ordered the manicotti, Frutti Di Mare and both were awesome! Very peaceful setting on a rainy night.

Italian with a Good Location

By Ck_Nest |

I had one of the signature dishes of seafood; lobster, shrimp, mussels on a pasta with white wine sauce. The lobster taste like it was frozen not fresh. The rest of the seafood was fine on the plate. There was a small beer selection. The bread was nice and warm. Overall it was pricey for what you got but, you are paying for location.

Best Food

By Janie H |

We wanted to eat somewhere that wasn't a chain restaurant. This is place was wonderful. The food the service was fantastic. Prices compared to other places was very reasonable. Would highly recommend.

You have to go if you like Italian!!

By Mike D |

The food was spot on and our waiter was very attentive and concerned about our experience. They are very authentic, you don’t know what your missing until you go, this was our first time and yes we will b back!!

Great Spot with Amazing Food

By BostnChicago |

Generous portions, fresh seafood. Delicious food and quick, friendly service. No cons here! We were so stuffed after appetizers were didn't even have room for dessert. Yummy Cocktails and mocktails, a nice selection of non alcoholic beverages besides soda..

Above average staff, below average food.

By jabc5 |

This restaurant came highly recommended by the concierge at my hotel. It is a beautiful setting, the staff was very friendly and attentive. However, the food was a huge disappointment. I ordered a Caesar salad. It was drenched in dressing and was soggy. The bread served o the table essentially tasted like white wonder bread in roll form. The chicken dish I had was bland, lacked flavor and was a huge disappointment. I won’t visit this restaurant again as the food was below average. I expected much better and was disappointed.
