Great little neighborhood place for small plates and wine

By Seattle98101 |

Pair is a cute, cozy neighborhood spot that offers an interesting assortment of small plates and wines by the glass, which is one of our favorite ways to dine. I don't think we've ever had a bad dish here, but among our favorites are the gougeres (something you don't see everyday) and the cambozola fondue. And for dessert, the coffee chocolate pot du creme is incredible!

A great venue to share.

By Richard R |

It was a reunion of 3 couples who often travel together. The small plate approach with the ability to share made it a great venue for us. Add a couple bottles of wine and all was good!

Love this charming place

By Sammers2004 |

This small place has a European feel and is so charming. The food is outstanding. It's small plates for sharing. I've been multiple times and have never had a dish I didn't like. My favorite that I order every time I go is the Cambozola fondue. Yum!!!

Exciting menu, food less so

By n2history |

Pair has a great little menu, but the food was a bit disappointing. As a party of four, we were told that most people order a number of dishes and eat family style. A concept that I endorse. Portion sizes were smaller than at most restaurants, and perhaps too small. My entree was the Atlantic prawns, which featured only three shrimp of average size served over rice. There were no vegetables or other accompaniments, and the dish lacked flavor. Fortunately, I had ordered the cheese sampler (quite good in taste, variety, and quality). Other dishes at our table included gougeres and fondue (appetizers); steak frites, roasted chicken, and pork (entree); and flourless chocolate cake and coffee and chocolate creme brulee desserts. The food quality was superb, as was the service. Although the dining space is open, we really weren't aware of the other diners.

Great Neighborhood Restaurant

Pair never disappoints. I go there most often for their fantastic happy hour. The moules and frites are deelicious! Gougeres, cheese fondue, sliders... how can you go wrong? Nice selection of wine and cocktails as well. Dinner is also excellent. And the banana bread pudding - wow! Only downside is that it can get a bit noisy.

Great food, local restaurant

By Debra C |

Very enjoyable dining experience. Love the homemade pasta. Also, visit the sister restaurant, in Seattle, Frank's Oyster bar & restaurant. Having visited Frank's first, our group traveling on business, was surprised & delighted, that they remembered us when we arrived to dine at Pair. Local folks, no chain restaurants. Love it!

Not inexpensive neighborhood eating

By Miriahm D |

Lovely small plates, some substantial, some less so,all delicious. Wine list seemed extensive, but as none of us is a wine drinker, can't really comment Our waiter was quick and efficient, and friendly. We arrived exactly at 5, as well you might as it is not a large room and by 5:30 on a Thursday evening there were already people waiting. Food did not knock my socks off,but that's not what we were looking for, just good food, and it was. For people who are bothered by loudness in a restaurant, this one for reasons we couldn't figure out (ceiling not high, no sleek metal stuff etc.),by 6:30 was just a bit too loud

Well worth checking out, this bar diner is very popular in a nice old building with a great select menu and very good choice of wines available

Great neighborhood spot! Fantastic small plates - don't miss the brussel sprouts

Great Neighborhood Restaurant

By Mattie S |

My friend and I went there for Happy Hour and decided to extend into dinner because we liked the menu so much. I chose the crab cakes and watercress salad. My friend decided to try the Mac 'n cheese. All of the dishes were quite tasty and visually appealing. The house red wine, which we did have during Happy Hour, was a perfect accompaniment and the price was surprisingly reasonable. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake--again no complaints. This was our first time at this restaurant, and we agreed we would return and recommend.

Wonderful neighborhood restaurant

By Michel_J_L |

Pair used to offer, when they opened, pairings of dishes and wine by the glass (thus the name -- which, to be honest, is what brought us through the door). That is the past (regretfully) but we were not disappointed since we ended up spending a wonderful evening. Today Pair still offers great wines by the glass or in bottles (but not paired) from a well curated wine list and essentially small plates of various and very diverse foods meant to be shared (the new business model is that a pair of customers will share the food). The French fries are fabulous and the meat or seafood courses are delightful and mix unusual flavors for a great result. Three plates plus one dessert served our needs as a couple. The room is comfortable and somewhat pleasantly funky (it may have been a small industrial workshop or warehouse before it became a restaurant, with bare beams and rafters and adorable small pane windows like you no longer see in "modern" times), tables are not too close to each other, the noise volume is quite acceptable for having an intimate and private conversation. Our waitress was welcoming, congenial, totally attentive to our needs and, honestly, perfect. A delightful experience. We will come back to this somewhat laid back piece of heaven

Welcome To Seattle

By danaknaak |

What a perfect welcome to Seattle. Our first night in Seattle, our first meal. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, what more is there? Yes, it's French, but not too much French, just right a nice balance. Great wine selection. Parking an adventure that makes the find, that much better.

Favorite Neighborhood Spot

By MelSeattle |

Love this intimate, but not stuffy little restaurant. The plates (to share, different sizes) are always delicious; innovative without being over-the-top. They usually have a wonderful fondue worth trying. Really, I've never had a negative experience with food at Pair. This is a great place to go with your spouse or with a few girlfriends for wine and noshes. Try it out if you're needing a local-to-the-University area restaurant. You'll love it.

Good I Think?

By david n |

We decided to give this place a try. It's a small place but draws a lot of people. I can't remember to much about the food, I had the chicken because of the people seated at the next table. The conversation was about business and was loud to the point you can't have your own thought or think about the meal. I'd remember if the chicken was bad but had too much of the adjacent conversation to remember the food.

Great Happy Hour!

By TXMARTINS |

Come early as they quickly fill up but his charming little restaurant has a great happy hour with great specials & good service. The french fries always are fantastic so don’t miss those when ordering!

Another Local

One of our favoriate places to visit. Suggest that you get there when they open, as they do not take reservations unless you have a large group(8+). Food is encourged to be shared.

Great small plate place

By James W |

The ambience is extremely pleasant. The food is excellent (based on three dishes). Everything about this small restaurant is highly recommended, and I regret the possibility that another fine review could make it crowded. One caveat, the hostess's attire was seriously below and out-of-step with the rest of the establishment.

Became sick an hour after eating here

By BulldogBilly |

A meat dish here smelled slightly rancid but as I have not gotten sick in a US restaurant in a long time, I just shrugged it off as being too picky. Bad decision. An hour after the meal, I was bent over expelling whatever made me sick. I called the restaurant just to warn them as a courtesy. The response from whomever answered was "Ok. Hope you feel better." I guess that's fine but if I owned a restaurant, I think I would have offered the person a free meal to try to repair the damage. My wife knows I would never eat there again.

Delicious!

By Keith Much |

I stopped in for the first time last night. Amazing! The food was fantastic, but the service was even better. My server was cordial and efficient. She did a great job. The host, Alex, went above and beyond. He offered suggestions and gave details on several dishes. It all resulted in the best meal I’ve had in a long time. Thanks to u all!

Great Dessert

By Cyndie326 |

We had already eaten, so we came here for dessert. We ordered the creme brulee and the chocolate cup. The creme brulee was a little too wet - which made the sugar topping gummy. But the flavor of the custard was good. The chocolate cup thing was incredibly rich and super yummy. We also ordered coffee, which turned out to be french press and was delicious! We are looking forward to going back to try out their happy hour. Sweet little place - great atmosphere. We were able to sit right down on an early Saturday, but as it grew later, the place filled up very quickly. So make reservations if you plan on going in later.

Delicious small plates and charming atmosphere

By CateBSeattle_WA |

We came for happy hour, which is a good way to avoid overspending. We arrived right at 5:00 and the restaurant was pretty full by 6. The food was all very good and the service was amazingly fast and attentive. My sidecar was definitely not as good as I expected (it wasn't BAD, just not balanced right) and I wasn't excited about the banana bread pudding (though my boyfriend loved it). It was great to end the meal with good, strong coffee and creme brulee (good thing we tried two desserts!). I would certainly recommend it for a nice dinner with friends or a date.

Outstanding Restaurant!

By KLK264 |

The food is exceptionally good and we tried 3 dishes and 2 desserts. The bartender made the perfect martini and offered the perfect service at the bar. The host was so good, we thought he was the manager or owner and he's just 19 years old! The wait staff watched tables carefully to see if they were needed. It is a very impressive place to eat.

Delicious meal to share

By Mayatravels |

Pair is a charming neighborhood restaurants serving delicious, sharable small plates in a cozy and friendly environment. Wonderful fish dishes, sautéed brussels sprouts, cheese pies, salads, great wines by the glass and a chocolate torte with cherries. Service is helpful and prompt even though the place was busy.

Surprisingly good. We will be going back!

By Ken W |

I'm not sure how to classify this restaurant. A southern inspired French/Mediterranean neighborhood restaurant? Serving tapas-sized courses that are insanely great? Regardless of classification - Go and enjoy! It isn't fancy and it frustrated me that they don't take reservations. And the wine list is weak. But .. all that said, when the service, food and ambiance are exceptional --- it makes for a great evening. I started with a pear/apple/crostini cheese fondue. Then graduated to a shrimp/polenta main dish. Wow! Great flavors and even a little kick to the polenta. As a side dish I chose the Gigantes beans. Excellent and half stolen by my wife. The drive from downtown Seattle wasn't bad and we had no trouble with parking. We took the 99 to green lake and were there in under 20 mins. A very nice evening! Happy we discovered it.

Amazing

By 예은 신 |

The dishes are creative but not too weird. The atmosphere is also great and the waiters are super nice and informative. The food was definately the best I had in Seattle so far. I especially recommend the peaches with mascapone.

Nothing else can com'pair'

By Andrew W |

When coming to Seattle from Scotland my list of places to eat is not very long. But one name that is on their is Pair. This restaurant is fantastic. The staff are great, friendly, and very helpful. The atmosphere in the restaurant is perfect for a family dinner or a romantic meal. And the food is to die for. My go to dish is the Macaroni cheese. That sounds boring but you have to try it. Never before have I tasted 'boring' food that tastes so good. On this visit I also had the stake frites. The steak, while small, was beautifully cooked. The frites, while a massive pile of them, tasted amazing. This is my favourite restaurant in Seattle and is definitely worth a visit.

Interesting Tasty Food, Overattentive Service

By Sheila L |

We have eaten here many times. Dishes are ordered a la carte on small plates and meant to be shared. Most of the time there is a great selection of fresh, locally sourced dishes. They have a great wine list and good desserts. Sometimes it's hard to get in because they don't take reservations. It is a little annoying when the server asks you every two minutes if everything is ok. There is a happy medium!

My New Favorite Restaurant

By Jacqueline B |

Loved this place! Very quaint and homey. Wonderful food to share. Had the Cambozola Fondue...delicious! Next time I'm getting two orders...it was that good. Grilled Pork Loin was next. Wonderful. Topped it off with Creme Brûlée. Excellent! I will be back!

Charming little place!

By Roanna C |

Excellent food, but very small portions. Can get expensive if you're a big eater! The menu is a mini-menu, so you need to order three or four items for two people to fill up for dinner. I ate hear twice during my three day stay in Seattle. If I'm ever back in the city I will return.

Great good, casual atmosphere

By Nina T |

Pair is a very cute little place with delicious food, yummy cocktails and nice selection of wines. My husband and I didn't have a reservation and the restaurant was full on Friday night. We were seated at the bar but were still able to order from the full menu. Octopus dish was yummy, summer beans with Romesco sauce were cooked with a nice crunch, figs that were "on today's special" were truly special ! The only dish I wasn't crazy about was a plate of crab cakes that had too much curry in them - too spicy for my taste. Loved the nice and relaxed atmosphere that had an "European countryside" feel including French music. Highly recommend !

Delightful!

What a beautiful little spot! We had a spontaneous dinner on a very rainy Seattle night and it couldn't have been more perfect! The interiors took us away from Seattle and transported us somewhere in France. Wonderful! Food, service, ambience were all top shelf.

thumbs up, but plan accordingly

By texantraveler4 |

This is not your usual restaurant--so you need to factor that into your plans. First, there are no reservations, so you may show up, as we did, at 6:30 on a Saturday night, hearing that was typically a less busy time, only to find out it would be at least an hour till we could be seated. We went across the street to a tavern called the Duchess and waited there for our phone call, not the best way to start a celebratory birthday evening out. Once back three of us wedged into a tiny table and were told that most people order small plates of appetizers and main courses, and share. So we ordered six or seven items in all, and were thrilled with every one of them. We also liked the "sharing" but I could see how some might not. Some of the plates were too small for three to share--for example, two teeny-tiny lambchops. Having said that, if you love this sort of dining experience, the food was excellent. As advertised the waitress had great recommendations for by-the-glass wine pairings. It was interesting that we had eaten at Franks, down the street, the night before, and went to Pair because we were told the same person owned both restaurants. To me, Franks had just the right size of much larger, sharable appetizers. Entrees were small but not too small and a perfectly satisfying amount for one person. The entree sharing items at Pair are not meant to be a full serving size, but that's what they tell you up front: very small plates to give you a taste of different things. The others in our party preferred the more but smaller portions of Pair...so I think it really comes down to what you are looking for. Both are uniquely good, light years ahead of the chain restaurants and student dives that populate that area. I feared we would see a repeat of the same dishes, going back to back nights to such small commonly owned restaurants but that wasn't the case--both had completely different menus. I highly recommend both but would choose Franks on a special night when I wanted dinner at a certain time, and Pair for a less structured outing.

Very comfortable with great dishes

By CudaRu |

This is a very comfortable neighborhood restaurant that serves small plates designed to be shared. For four of us, we ordered about eight plates and each one was very good. The frites are outstanding. The small fondue is a great appetizer. The lamb was seasoned really well with Indian spices. I really liked the butternut squash, and I don't usually like squash. I almost wish that each plate was served as a full entree, but that would defeat the whole concept. Very dependable.

One of My Favorite Seattle Reataurants

By Kevin B |

While the restaurant is rather small, the service, bar, and food service were absolutely fantastic. With a well-balanced and good variety menu, everyone in your group will find something delicious to eat. Meal size is enough to fill you up but not so much that you’re engorged. I personally and the mussels and fries, and they were fantastic. Having the same dish in both Nice and Honfleur, France, Pair’s dish was absolute delicious and brought back the taste of true French cooking. I can not recommend this restaurant enough.

Try a little of everything

By Vernsdottir |

Pair is a French-style bistro, the kind of place you could make your second kitchen table. It's our go-to place to take out-of-town guests. It has a rustic elegance that is right for any occasion, and a small-plates menu that can satisfy picky palates and adventurous eaters at the same table. You can order as many items as you want, then order more as needed. We usually have every person choose one dish for the first round, which gives us a nice variety to share. We have eaten there often and never hit a clunker on the menu. And we've never felt rushed. The cocktail list is interesting and changes seasonally.

Great Food But Very Loud

By Tall66 |

Eat here last night with my wife and four friends and had a great time. The food was very good, the wine list was OK and the service was stellar but it was so loud that you all but had to yell at each other to be heard. Between the six of us we tried 11 different dishes and all were very good.

Solid but overpriced neighborhood grub

By Michael V |

Pairs success remains an enigma to me. While their food is solid and dependable, it is nothing exceptional and tends towards being overpriced and under-portioned. Nothing wrong with the "small-dishes" approach when the pricing is commensurate with the sizing. That said, Pair is typically found wanting on this ratio. Fortunately this lack is somewhat compensated for by a reasonably varied and priced wine list.

One of our favorite local restaurants

By DistantSun_Spain |

We live very close to Pair, and it is one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle. You can design your own dinner by choosing from a list of small plates that are great for sharing, and their meals are made from seasonally fresh ingredients. The mushroom risotto, beef brisket with horseradish creme fraiche, and the potato leek gratin are some of our favorites. If you like coffee, as most people do in Seattle, Pair makes a wonderful dessert called "pot de creme," which is like a coffee-flavored custard in a small cup. Pair is a very small restaurant, and as far as I know, they don't take reservations. So if you show up at dinner time on a Friday or Saturday night, you might need to wait for a while. It's well worth the wait.

Cozy, creative, rustic, delicious

By TheCuri0usOne |

Went there with my wife to celebrate a special occasion. It's a small-ish place, not as small as they claim to be on their website :) They dont accept reservations, so we entered the restaurant and were asked to wait. We went up to the bar, ordered a bottle of wine and waited for sometime. On getting a table, got our plate of bread and butter. Menu keeps changing, which always is a good indication. The concept is to eat more dishes, since the portion sizes are fairly smaller compared to other places. This is a very cozy restaurant so high chances you will be sitting next to another party. Whatever you order, flavor is guaranteed. We tried the pickled vegetables, risotto, cheese platter, fries, .... Desserts are good too.

So romantic....

By Rolling1623 |

Visiting Seattle at the end of April, I had the chance to be there while the ``restaurants week`` was happening, after looking up menus online, we decided to go at Pair since it looked very good and different! And it was! From the cheese fondue to the perfectly cooked fish, amazing crême brulée and tasty mussels, the overall experience was perfect. Very romantic place, perfect for couples. Waitress was very nice and if I finish my evening with a Grand Marnier then i'm in heaven. Thanks Guys.

Uniformly Superb

By James W |

This is an affordable, pleasant restaurant with terrific food. Some reviewers note that the portions are not large, but considering the quality and the wonderful taste of everything, this restaurant is one of the city's great bargains. It is a great place to learn that, when the food is marvelous, one doesn't need a lot to feel satisfied and pleasantly full. Six stars, if possible.

Fun fresh small plates and nice wine list

By Ungrafted |

Super cute place with rustic furnishings invoke memories of a small bistro in rural France. Very nice service and the small plates were so tasty! The salad was super fresh and the short ribs delightful as was the lamb. There wasn't one dish I didn't love. Can't wait to go back!

good but pricey

By travels_on_belly |

my gf & i went there with her friends that live in the area. we were able to walk in and get a table, which seemed to be a bit hard. we only ordered 8 items for 4 people, and we should have ordered more; i'd had a late lunch and was still hungry afterwards. moreover, i left $100 on the table, with tip. i've certainly had better meals for cheaper. we had a nectarine and arugula salad (fruit was really good); moule frittes (*really* good chile broth); charcuterie plate (so-so); brisket with horseradish (not bad but horsey totally overpowered); "delicate" squash with fried goat cheese (bland, uninspiring, stupid); and.something else that was apparently so forgettable, i really can't remember what it was. dessert was banana bread pudding (not impressed, although it seemed my gf's friend was) and chocolate pot de creme (tasty). and coffee. pretentiously french-pressed. overall, the food was good. but not good enough to justify the price.

Lovely find!

By Formerlykathy |

Visiting my niece in the upper U district and walked out for a bite to eat. Found this lovely little place quite by chance and decided to try it. Small and quaint but they were able to seat us without having a reservation. Seemed like a date place as it was mostly couples holding hands and staring in each others eyes. The menu would be pricey for college students but reasonable for most up scale places. Good wine list. Portions were small but delicious and well prepared. I enjoyed the atmosphere and service was very good. Would highly recommend for others who enjoy unique food preparation and a change in the ordinary.

Special Occasion, Upscale, Local

By Pat_e321 |

Great wine, delicious nouveau cuisine, and lovely local place for a special occasion where you can dress casually.

Interesting small plates restaurant in the u district!

By D T |

Made reservations in advance for a friend's birthday party; reservations definitely recommended in light of the small size and limited # of tables in the restaurant. We tried several dishes on the menu, including the fondue, cheese plate, lamb, chicken, beef fries, etc. All were good and prepared well. Recommend it as a fun and different place to try with a group of people so you can try many different things.

Excellent food, service

By SeattleMan |

This is a small neighborhood restaurant, rustic but comfortable. The food is reliably very good, the service pleasant and casual. We usually have to wait for a table, but do not mind having a glass of wine and a few appetizers while we chat with friends for 10-30 minutes.

Perfection

By Gina H |

Second visit to this classic neighborhood bistro. Started off with the herb & cheese gougeres. They were not nearly as fresh as they were on my first visit, so disappointing start. Followed with the free range chicken and potato leek gratin. They were delicious. The service was excellent and the ambience sublime. I'd go back.

Our go to neighborhood joint

By germy76 |

We loved this place. It was about 10 blocks from the house and we would walk over there on a Friday or Saturday night, drink a couple beverages, eat some awesome food, and stumble home. It was a perfect location for us and we miss it dearly. Definitely give it a shot if you're in their neighborhood. You won't be disappointed. I noticed some of the other reviews mention pricing and yeah, I suppose it's a bit higher than some other neighborhood joints, but we loved the atmosphere and food so much that we rarely felt like we overpaid. The only time I can think of was for one of their appetizers and I don't even remember what it was. Love this place! Thanks for all the memories Pair people!

Overly expensive

By Francophile4330 |

Pricey but popular. Small portions leave one a bit hungry - which often leads to ordering more dishes and before you know it, your bill is quite high. order with care.

Friendly

By Chien Andalou |

It's a pleasant, cozy, neighborhoody place! Good service; decent small plates. But I wouldn't go too far out of my way to eat here. If you're ready to drop $100 for dinner and drinks for 2, you can do much better on Capitol Hill.

Charming cosy french bistro, tucked in a quiet street near U Village

By Micheline G |

A very nice french bistro. The menu is simple, not pretentious and well executed. The food is exactly what we expected to be: simple and good. The fries are fantastic. The seared tuna was great, as the moules and frites. The tarte tatin is top notch, and it turned out to be a new addition to the menu. The service was very friendly. We were there on a Wednesday evening and it had the charm of a neighborhood restaurant. We will be back for sure

Went for Seattle Restaurant Week...Will Glo Back for Regular Menu, Too

By SteveLikes_3_Stars |

A friend and I try to use Seattle Restaurant Week in the way in which it is intended, i.e., for trying out places we have never dined before. Since neither of us had tried Pair, along NE 55th Street not far from the northern precincts of University Village in NE Seattle, we decided to go there—and I’m glad we did. It’s always nice to find one-of-a-kind neighborhood restaurants and Pair certainly qualifies. The menu for Restaurant Week (at dinner, an appetizer, a main course, and dessert for $35) had a number of choices, including vegetarian options in all 3 categories. We got there early enough to take advantage of the happy hour menu, too, so we each ordered something additional to augment our meals. For happy hour, I ordered the house pickles and my friend ordered the cougeres, which are cheese puffs with thyme. Both were delicious, though be forewarned that the pickles are not just cucumber-based. Yes, there were pickled slices of cuke but also cauliflower (which I liked) and beets which are not red so a bit deceptive until you taste one. Everyone has at least one food whose taste they can’t stand and for me, that food is beets, so it was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. (Yes, I could have asked what was in the pickles but didn’t.) To the restaurant’s credit (their pickling is excellent), I did not spit out the one piece of beet I tried, but I left the rest of them for my friend. For appetizers, my friend had the weathervane scallops/English cucumber ceviche while I tried the duck soup, with wild rices and herbs (helpfully marked on the menu as gluten-free). My soup was very good, with lots of duck meat in it. I didn’t try the ceviche but my friend definitely approved. For mains, I had the “Pan Seared Cod With Celeriac Soubise, Charred Scallion Pistou, Fennel & Pickled Celery.” It was as delicious as it sounds; the fish was seared perfectly, with nice little crusty edges to add to the overall sensory experience of flavors and textures in this well-thought-out dish. My friend had the “Beef Brisket, Horseradish Crème Fraiche & Pommes Lyonnaises” which he reported to be excellent as well. I tried a couple of pieces of the beef with the house-made horseradish sauce and agree—the meat was tender and the sauce, not your ordinary horseradish, was hot enough to get one’s attention without being overpowering. For the dessert, we both opted for the “Flourless Chocolate Cake, Amarena Cherries, Whipped Cream (Gluten-Free, Vegetarian).” I don’t usually care for whipped cream but Pair’s was so good that I ate it all. The cherries were sour, which really added to my enjoyment of this dessert, but the chocolate was the star, as it should be. If the purpose of restaurant week is to entice new patrons to a restaurant with a bargain-priced menu, Pair achieved its goal admirably. We both commented that Pair has earned a place in our “restaurant rotation” for the future. My only caveat is that the service was a bit slow at times. We had to remind the server of our happy hour selections, which didn’t arrive at the table until late in the meal, even though they were intended to be appetizers, and the wait for our official Restaurant Week appetizer was long, with an equally long wait for the main course. However, the restaurant was very busy, I arrived about 10 minutes late and after the server had made her first pass by the table, and it wasn’t a bad thing because we liked the place so much and had time for conversation. While it might have bothered me had we been in a hurry to get to another destination or event, that wasn’t the case on this particular night. The place is very friendly, the food good, and I recommend Pair.

Great Ambience, Good food

By Eric D |

Lovely neighborhood ambience in a classy, modified French small plates restaurant. They are trying many interesting things here - most menu items had a twist from the expected. I particularly liked the cold lime soda and the cheese plate. Many good veggie entries also. Even had MacNcheese for the kids.

Welcomed with open arms

By KeithF030479 |

That's the way I felt when we visited Pair on an early Saturday evening for dinner. You enter the restaurant and it's like being welcomed into the kitchen that was made into a dining room complete with a rustic feel. LOVED the bar right in the middle and the limited seating made me feel like I was one of the lucky ones to have been able to secure a seat! I frown upon the comments of other reviews who call the place "overly expensive" and "I left there feeling hungry". I felt there were plenty of options to keep all types of diners full as the menu ranged from Apps and Small plates to a variety of entrees. If you want cheap food and large portions, GO TO MCDONALDS!! My experience was quite opposite - and part of that is because I made it at Happy Hour from 5PM to 7PM which included $5 glasses of house wines (6 varieties to choose from) along with a wide array of reduced price small plates. We sampled everything thing from olives and fondue to beef brisket sliders and fresh garden salads. I left there feeling full and satisfied. Now I will again say that my experience was during Happy Hour and 4 adults had 10 glasses of wine (we walked to/from the restaurant people), and at least tried 8 different dishes between small plates and entree salads. I don't think the bill was much more than $100. Well worth the visit and a great opportunity to try a bunch of different kinds of food

Great happy hour!

This is a cute little restaurant in Ravenna that has a wonderful happy hour! We arrived right as they opened at 5 and the restaurant was almost completely full by 5:30. This friendly, warm, neighborhood bistro is an overlooked gem,. (I'm tempted not to tell everyone how good Pair is because than it will be even harder to get a table.) My only complaint about Pair is their no-reservations policy. We ate at Pair late night and thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING--appetizer, entree, wine, dessert, service, atmosphere, price. We had the best pork chop ever and an excellent duck cassoulet. And my daughter loved the "old-school" macaroni and cheese.

Fabulous

By Wendi D |

This darling restaurant is delicious, everything you order will be wonderful, very flavorful, just the right amount of food (small plates) and the fondue is the best I've ever had. It's loud in a fun kind of way when it's full and when it dies down after 9:00 p.m. you can hear the French music in the background. You can wear jeans, be comfortable, no reservations unless 6 or more people, places to sit while you wait. Beef brisket and cheese potatoes are amazing. Parking on the street in the Ravenna neighborhood, plan to walk half a block or so usually. The cheese plate is also fantastic - favorite restuarant in Seattle.

Delicious, cozy but not...

Delicious, cozy but not kitschy. Both dine and relax- try sharing the big table with other diners.

Great small plates in cozy environment with friendly service

Really enjoyed this place in a NW Seattle neighborhood location. We arrived during their happy hour and were treated to a varied assortment of small plates and drinks to choose from. Their full menu is also available. Atmosphere was much like a corner bistro in France. Service was pleasant and helpful. Food is well-priced and of high quality. It's fun to share the small plates (tapa style). Try a cocktail or glass of wine along with the delicious cheese & herb gougers, tasty patatas bravas, brisket sliders, mac & cheese, frites, and top it off with a rich coffee-chocolate pot de crème. We really enjoyed our meal and will return at the next opportunity.
