Excellent Food in a Lovely Restaurant

By ehb22 |

Lively and busy, the Palace Kitchen never disappoints. Lot's of interesting main courses and desserts. Wonderful service. And a fine selection of beer and wine.

Nightcap

By Mandy J |

This restaurant has lots to offer and unfortunately we just scraped the surface by only ordering drinks and a cheese board appetizer. Food we did have was outstanding. Drinks were original and very good. Next time we visit, I’d make it a point to eat dinner here! FYI pricy menu.

Brussel Sprouts used to be a four letter word -Not any more

By SFBzoo |

Had dinner there since it was close to the hotel and looked like an interesting menu. And it was both. The small plates were difficult to choose from. Had the calamari and Brussel sprouts. While the calamari was nice, skimpy portion, the Brussels Sprouts were outstanding. Had an orange -oriental flavor and popped rice on top, nicely caramelized..Had salmon for the main dish, very nicely prepared and a fair serving. Desert was sour cherry and rubbard with ice cream Excellent service. They tack a 20% service charge on no matter what. The wine selection did not have a single California wine - very disappointing. OR WA and European. REALLT

Great Choice in Seattle

By Onthebacknine |

Ate here twice during an extended visit and was impressed on both occasions in terms of atmosphere, food and service. This is part of the Tom Douglas group of restaurants which all seem to deliver. We sampled the plin ravioli (twice) which were excellent. The delicata squash app was also a standout. Mains included the roasted chicken, gumbo, grilled tuna and the royale burger. All very good. Great service by David at the bar and Eric. Nice vibe. Would definitely recommend.

Hospitality and good food

By mmdumesnil |

As a group of 6, we were accommodated and had a great dining experience. The service was extremely friendly, the food was excellent. We walked in with no reservations and had no wait on a Sunday evening. Enjoyed the ambiance very much.

Great Food but You’ll Pay for it

By Bosox61 |

Got in w minimum wait on a crowded Saturday night. Actually went to bar area and ordered drinks but we were seated before our drinks were ready. Two drinks, a beer and cocktail cost $30 a little steep. They automatically tack on 20% for tips on all orders. Despite that food and service were excellent for dinner we both had halibut which was excellently prepared over a corn and pepper bed. Reasonably priced to for $32. Desserts were excellent although the cheesecake was a little tart for me but cobbler sweet and tasty. Good visit despite the hefty charge for a drink.

Wow, what a meal

By CanadianinBatonRouge |

I had a fantastic dinner here with a large group of people. I had friends who highly recommended a visit and I wasn't disappointed. I had the whole Trout and it was done to perfection. For an appetizer, I had the fried Brussels sprouts which was seriously the best sprouts I have ever had. This is a must visit restaurant and very under-rated in my opinion.

Happy hour happiness!!

Wow, get the crispy pig ear poutine! Service great, food great, get here early on a Friday night. Delightful. Nicely done, Mr. Douglas.

Slow service, mediocre food!

By Sugarprincess77 |

Beautiful, seductive setting with slow, robotic service. My burger royale was a big disappointment, over cooked and had no flavor. The coconut cream pie was very good.

Best Place in Seattle

By Michelle S |

The food was fabulous, but we enjoyed meeting Rose most of all! The "green beans" we're bursting with flavor. The vegetables were all locally grown.

It smells so good

By Stephen P |

The sent of the smoldering applewood stimulates your palate. Nice atmosphere very popular we made it just before the rush so we were seated 5 min after arriving . The food was excellent the beet & corn salad proved me a new way to enjoy beets. Applewood grilled fish was a whole fish filleted at the table. Great experience a little pricey but I am not complaining

While the decor is amazing and the service is also outstanding, the food was not at all.

By Kevin W |

We ordered a hamburger done medium and a seafood and pasta dish - the hamburger showed up rare - barely seared on either side - and the seafood? It was two shrimp and a tiny mussel. Nothing else. At any rate, the grilled cheese sandwich (not on the menu) our three year old ate was outstanding. Beyond that, I just can't see spending $400 on dinner for three adults and one child. The portions were tiny. The food was not prepared well.

Meh...

By reisenderjo |

We've been to several Tom Douglas restaurants, this one is at the low end of our list. Food was ok, service was ok and the place was ok. Just ok. If you look for something special, my recommendation is to try a different restaurant.

Good food, nice atmosphere

By CharlotteWright_AK |

Everything we ordered was very good. The trout - it was cooked to perfection. The service was exceptional. The atmosphere is casual and caters to all. It is pricey, however, so if you are looking for an inexpensive meal this is not the place to go.

GOOD-Loved the "VIBE" its fast paced but relaxed all in one Great-downtown location!

By Hialeah73 |

"Awesome" decor loved the chandeliers in the bar area. I understand they were specially made for this Tom Douglas restaurant location. Everything is a la cart so order what you are in the mood for. Many items are from his own farms so high quality great tasting food. Full bar with great service even with the restaurant slammed. I would recommend reservations unless you don't mind sitting at the bar. The wait was 45 minutes with out reservations when I went. This owner is a celebrity chef well known.

A Classic Tom Douglas Experience

By Michael98133 |

Stayed downtown for a 3-day conference to avoid the traffic hassles. Walked to the Palace because I had not been there for a long time. It was like all Tom Douglas experiences, professional, friendly, and well-executed. Even though I did not have a reservation, it was 5 pm on Sunday, so they were able to seat us right away. Service was prompt and friendly. Got the meat plate app. It was well done, though we ran out of bread. Server noticed and brought some right away since we still had pate' left. I had the roasted chicken, wife had the Idaho trout. Both were delicious. Server deboned the trout. It was a nice touch. Trout was huge, but juicy. Very satisfied with the whole experience.

Another Tom Douglas Restaurant...

By GibBob |

A nice place to eat - I wasn't taken with its sister restaurant "Etta's" but this is of a different calibre. Although the location may be a bit further away from the action this restaurant is comfortable and conducive to a pleasant evening out. Food nicely prepared and presented also really pleasant service. Our server, Lisle, was a delight and we certainly spent more than if we had been constantly prompted whilst making our choices - they need more like her! I noted that this is a place that stays open until 1am so a late night meal after a film or concert is possible. Previously dined there about 4 years ago and we were more than happy with this return visit.

Smelled delicious entering!

By Lovetravel G |

This was an overall very good dining experience. The hamburger and fries are out of this world. We also tried the cheese fondue that came with apples and pears. It was very very good. My husband tried the chicken wings and they were not your typical style chicken wings. They were large wings and there were four in a plate. So be prepared if you think you are ordering "wings." The homemade ravioli is delicious and the brussels sprouts are cooked perfectly. They have like a brown sugar vinegar glaze on them. Drinks were good but slightly slow service. We've heard all of Tom Douglas restaurants were good, so we had to try one while visiting Seattle. We made a good choice.

Great place and open at the right time.

By Ronald S |

I have had a few times where I took the bus into Seattle for some event and had some time where I had to wait for a bus downtown outside which was OK for a short time but preferred not to do so and I was a little bit hungry so I was happy to see the Palace Kitchen was the only non-fast food restaurant still open so I could relax indoor and have something while I was waited for my bus. I had clams. I tried to find the description on the menu on the website but could not. The clams, bread and broth was very good. The waiter/bartender Robert B. was attentive and made sure I got my food quickly and got me my tab at first so I did not miss my bus which was the last one of the night.

Nice Atmosphere & Service

By Fieldtravels |

We were looking for a place to go that was close to our hotel and where we could easily walk in and sit down. The Palace Kitchen has a very nice atmosphere and the service was really great. It was pricier than we expected, but the food was very good. We really enjoyed the halibut, the Manila clams appetizer and the mixed greens salad. I wish they had more fish options on the menu, but everything we had was very good quality and enjoyable.

Top 10 Dining Experiences

By cardsfan62 |

We knew from the moment that we walked in that we had chosen the right restaurant. Every staff member went out of their way to make us feel welcome and special. Friendliest, best service you could ask for. To top it off, the food was amazing! We stuck with some fairly basic entrees but they were far from boring or standard fare. My husband declared that his Palace burger (their signature burger) was the best burger he'd ever had. I couldn't stop sneaking french fries off of his plate, they were delicious! The server told us that she'd bring us all of the fries we wanted. Luckily we didn't take her up on that so I was able to enjoy the roasted chicken (perfectly cooked). We topped off our meal with their specialty coconut cream pie and house made ice cream. Perfect ending to a perfect meal. If we were local, this would be a regular stop.

Great place!

By BNDestin |

Excellent!!! Great service. It was a bit warm inside but other than that excellent. Would definitely go back.

Best Restaurant in Seattle

By N3065LKdebbies |

Absolutely loved this restaurant from foid, cocktails, service..everything was excellent! I had the halibut which was so moist and flavorful. My husband had a cheeseburger and he loved every single bite. Was with some business partners so were able to sit in a private area away from rest of restaurant guests. I will return here every time I go to Seattle!

Late night

By Ftyoung |

Arrived to Seattle on a late flight and couldn't find much open except fast food. Our hotel suggested this place which happened to be only a short walk away. Great food and open late. My husband and I had a cheeseburger and fries. Cooked exactly as ordered and they were huge. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff

So glad we came

By Warmwinds |

Around the corner from our hotel, I had always wanted to try it and finally did. We fly Alaska Airlines a lot and recall when Tom Douglas was their food guru. Very nice experience. We each had one of their cocktails - I usually don't like a lot of mixed drinks, but I thought mine was delicious - all I remember was that it was purple, couldn't tell you what was in it - lavendar maybe? Afraid it would taste like soap but it didn't. Our waiter was great - guy with the glasses. As has been mentioned, their menu is very limited, but we decided to share the clams as an appetizer, and he recommended we get the beer bread. Sorry, it was good but not worth ten bucks. I loved my entree - the trout. I didn't like the sound of the sauce (which changes frequently), had kohlrabi and apples, so he let me switch it out for the Romesco (that's on the chicken) and I was very happy. The trout itself was spectacular - fresh, succulent, - they even put lemon and thyme UNDER the skin. Great mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband got the dumplings which I thought were boring (but he liked them). We ended up with a free glass of wine - can't recall why - I THINK it's because we were nicer than his other table which we could tell were real pita's. He was even going to give us a free dessert but we declined because we were full. Pays to be nice I guess. :) Why only 4 stars? Should be 4 1/2. Felt ripped off by the bread, but everything else made up for it. So let's say 4 3/4. Will definitely dine here again on our next trip to this part of Seattle.

Best trout ever

By RobBlue |

The whole grilled trout on the menu was the best meal I’ve eaten in years. Octopus appetizer was equally good. Either one is worth a special trip there.

Great atmosphere

By Jon E |

Interesting menu - but a great dining experience. Visited with colleagues and had a great night out. Worth trying, it's not your usual chain eating-house, and all the better for it.

Small-ish portions, sub par cooking

By vcool |

I had no high hopes for American kitchen, but we listened to a colleague's advice and visited Palace Kitchen. We had no reservation, it was just after the work hours finished, so it was fairly crowded, but we got a nice seat. The place is big and the menu is populated with all kinds of fusions as starters, but the main dishes were mainly domestic recipes. The starter was prosciutto and mozzarella and the main dish was local burger made out of beef meat. Prosciutto was very nice, it was mixed with melons and watermelons and the mozzarella was tasty. It was not Italian, does not have that texture, but was tasty. The burger was a disappointment. I have asked for medium to well done and yet it had quite a lot of undercooked parts. Probably because it was flame grilled. It came with a lot of 'French fries', but they were not crispy, but looked semi cooked and drowned in frying oil. The taste was mediocre, blunt and even the beef tasted awkward. Thanks to the jet-lag I may have a problem with tasting buds, but companions agreed that it was borderline tasteless. And the price was not small, btw. We ate for about USD55 per person. The portion size was good, but the Idaho trout was not generous (I did not try it). We skipped the dessert.

Expensive burgers!!

By Paul S |

I went here with my wife for dinner as it was close to our hotel. We both ordered the burgers (well done) with cheese and bacon. The fries were tasty and the burger was fine, nothing special. I also ordered a Moscow mule cocktail while my wife ordered a mojito. The drinks were fantastic. The staff in particular our waitress Michelle, was so friendly and helpful. She gave us quite a number of tips on where to visit and also served our food and drinks really quickly. Top marks for customer service.

Out of this world chicken wings

By Eric T |

My wife and I love dining at the Palace Kitchen. Every time we come into the city, we make sure and stop in for a delicious experience. in fact, we love the food so much we had our Wedding party in the private room the night we were married. The wood grilled chicken wings are our favorite. You get three large chicken wings laying in cilantro sour cream sauce. The flavor from the wood fired grill adds a smokey taste un like any other wood fired chicken I've had. They are under the Starter menu, but it can be a meal if you add the ENORMOUS garlic crouton and romaine lettuce with it. I always order a fresh squeezed margarita (or two) to quench my thirst. Don't let the prices scare you, they add a 20% service charge to the menu items because of the $15 an hour minimum wage that Tom Douglas pays his team. The 20% gets spread out to the staff that work so hard to bring you the delicious food and drink.

Wonderful late night dining

By Bruce S |

We arrived at our hotel (Warwick) late & the clerk recommended the Palace just down the street. They had a variety of late night options to choose from to eat, as well as a varied drink menu. We were well fed with great tasting food & drink!

Palace Kitchen- Belltown

By Karen G |

This place was another one recommended to me by one of the regulars at Rider, so of course I had to see what the hype was about! We came here right after checking out Rob Roy, also located in Belltown. The space has that cozy, old-school Seattle charm, dimly lit with an intimate vibe that’s perfect for late night conversations. The open kitchen concept is really cool, and the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the irresistible aroma of grilled dishes coming off the wood-fire. It was pretty packed when we arrived, so we just grabbed a drink at the bar to get a feel for the place. Service was okay considering how busy it was, the staff still managed to stay attentive and friendly. I heard Palace Kitchen is one of the few spots in the city that serves late-night eats, which is always a plus if you’re looking for quality food after hours. Definitely planning to come back next time to actually try the food. I heard great things about their apple wood-grilled trout.

Great spot. Excellent, fun service!

By nickrears99 |

We had a decent sized group on a weekend night and the Palace team crushed it. Food was great and service - led by Andrea - were even better. Never heard of Tom Douglas before but between Dahlia Bakery (whose desserts they serve here) and the work he does with this open kitchen layout and casual atmosphere make this one a big win. Extra special shoutout to our server - back after a 4 month break- Andrea (I’m pretty sure hat was her name!) for making our night even more enjoyable.

Late night bite.

By govisray |

Stopped in for a late night drink and snack. Impressive menu with a wide variety of choices served late. Friendly, helpful staff and excellent ambiance.

Did not deliver on the reviews

By Tim B |

Walked in for a Monday evening dinner to try this highly rated venue. I waited for 5 minutes at the door for the person at the desk to acknowledge me while he was chatting on the phone. Thankfully, a bartender noticed me and ushered me in with a smile and warm greeting. Both of us ordered different items to share and we both agreed the food was good or average. We'd eaten here a few years ago on another trip and had a great meal but found the menu to lack choices we'd enjoy. I hope we were just there on a bad night as it seems the server was also not the evening.

It's back, and just as good...especially the Coconut Cream Pie

By Janet T |

After being closed during the pandemic, Palace Kitchen opened with limited hours. Now our favorite late dining spot has extended their hours for late night dining...thank you! We dined after an evening Nutcracker performance. My granddaughter and I each had the French Onion Soup plus she had the Lucy Rose Apple and Fall Chicories salad while my spouse had the Fire Roasted Penn Cove Manila Clams. For dessert, I had Tom Douglas's famous Coconut Cream Pie which I had been thinking about for several weeks. The pie more than exceeded my expectations!

So glad we found this treasure

By threeamigos59405 |

Out walking the neighborhood on a lovely evening! Chatted with some people just leaving and they gave some great recommendations. I had the ravioli that was listed as an appetizer and my husband had the pasta. We also had the best waitress in Seattle! Her name was Rose. She brought us some samples of fresh bread to die for and went perfectly with our pasta! The ambience of this little place plus the great service made for the perfect dining experience!

Great atmosphere, good food

By ShannonMarie0385 |

We came here late night after recommendations from a local. The atmosphere was so comfortable and relaxing with awesome hip hop/reggae. We tried a few different menu items, all of which were pretty good. I would definitely go back just to chill out, meet some cool people and maybe have a snack.

Our waitress was a superstar!

By BlueJay87 |

I was staying at The Westin for a conference, and Palace Kitchen happened to be close by. The staff at our hotel highly recommended it, so we decided to try it out. Long story short, we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was a little loud, and we sat in the corner of the restaurant in close proximity to other tables, but that didn't bother me so much. It only told me that this was a popular place to eat! I was able to people watch while we waited. Rose was our waitress, and she was spectacular. She never skipped a beat and provided banter that was equal parts helpful, charming, and funny. She made our experience that much greater, and our food was already delicious anyway. I wish I could give her a rating higher than five. I ordered the Palace Burger Royale. According to Rose it's one of the, if not THE, best burgers in Seattle. Whether or not that's true, it was excellent and cooked just right. All of the extra pieces were placed on the side which I liked. Rose stated that everything was fresh, including the fries. I believe it. I couldn't have asked for a better meal and waitress that day. I just wish I would've saved room for dessert.

Always a must!

By AlaskanTravelZ |

Every time I go to Seattle this is were I go to eat! Whether I'm with family, friends or with my boyfriend we always go. I would highly suggest the lavender goat cheese fondue! I love the selection that they have and also the atmosphere. I would highly suggest it to anyone.

Overpriced

By Hawk |

Good food and great service but way overpriced - in particular the beer ($10 for a small glass). Go elsewhere as there are a lot of good restaurants closer to the city centre or around space needle

Wonderful food

By rageisman |

Really enjoyed this place. Small but cute, would definitely recommend having reservations. We shared the wild boar dumplings to start, small portion but delicious. I had the gnocchi which was excellent, husband had an off menu tuna special, sadly he was not a fan. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if in the area.

Still a gem in the heart of the city

By DCollins1 |

Most restaurants do not last 3 years, but for more than 20, Tom Douglas' 'Palace Kitchen' in 5th Ave. has been thriving. Yesterday was my first time dining at this institution. I wanted a hand made, high quality burger, with fresh ingredients and all the trimmings. I was extremely impressed! Palace Kitchen came through with flying colors. Cooked to perfection natural chuck, lettuce, pickle, and onion (I don't do cheese). The 'dahlia bakery bun' was excellent as well. Everything is ala carte, so fries are a few dollars more, but well worth it. We started with the 'enormous garlic crouton and romaine lettuce parmesan dressing' salad. The $7.00 portion was enough to share and was fresh, as expected. The ambiance is wonderful. It reminded me a little of a New York Bistro, with a Seattle slant, just what I was hoping for. It's showing its age just a little, but is clean all around. I glanced into the open air kitchen on my way from the mens room. As a former hospitality worker, I was pleased to see that even during the dinner rush, everything looked organized and clean. Finally, regarding service. When I choose to dine and be served, I expect certain levels of professionalism from the staff. Depending on the type of establishment, I will expect at least a basic knowledge of food, wine, alcohol and service in general. I was very pleased to report that Emily exceeded our expectations. Very friendly and welcoming service, but not in a 'kid-like, I'll just be nice to get a tip' sort of way. She was genuine and very professional. Overall, this place is a fabulous restaurant. Living up to its reputation, even after all these years, and that's not easy to do. Thank you Tom Douglas!

Enjoy the dishes prepared over the wood fire.

By SailawaySeattle |

Palace Kitchen is a noisy, typically crowded on weekend nights but a friendly place. The staff are warm and welcoming. I have never been disappointed in the food I have eaten at the Palace Kitchen. I especially enjoy the meals cooked over the wood fire - a favorite is the expensive but tasty Rosemary Chicken. The smell of the wood fire in the restaurant brings the outdoors inside. The bar area is located in the middle of the dining room and has a couple TV screens so I think that adds some distraction to dining and places diners in the position of sitting across from cramped drinkers inside the bar area who are looking at your table. While I find it a fun place to be with friends I would also say it is a place I do not find relaxing. The Palace Kitchen has a great selection of draft beers, wine, and sprits for those who can afford that sort of thing. After my many visits I think of Palace Kitchen as an upscale neighborhood bar with excellent food. Try it, you may like it. Heads up - Pay attention to the 20% "gratuity" charge that is automatically attached to the check.

Bartender Ruins great meal!

By sensmike |

Was here last week and sat at the bar for dinner with two colleagues. Meal was good but bartender was terribly cranky old guy who felt it to be a big inconvenience that I asked him for a fork and a refill of a glass of water. Too bad as the place was super cool and the food was good. Just shows you how crappy service can ruin a whole experience. Can't b elieve that you have to pay an automatic 20% gratuity to get the worst service.

Pleasantly surprised with the happy hour.

By mindis304 |

Palace Kitchen’s Royale Hour from 4:30 - 6 PM has some great selections at very reasonable prices. The rosemary lavender lemon drop was amazing and it was the perfect drink on a hot afternoon. The bowl of piping hot fries for $3 was almost a meal in itself. I wasn’t as impressed with their braised beef stroganoff; it was fine, but not outstanding. I had a reservation for dinner, but chose to stay at the bar and not move to a table.

Dessert after dark

By HedgehogsOnTheWing |

Plunge into the Seattle scene with dessert and a drink. A popular and noisy place on a Friday evening. Great people watching. Friendly and swift service. Amazing wall mural - you can find yourself as a medieval diner or server.

All good!

By Rissa Dee |

First, Palace Kitchen has complimentary matches. Matches! Not many restaurants use this marketing tool. It’s my favorite and PK won me over when I walked in. Jonathan - fantastic server! Attentive without being overbearing, honest take on the food recommendations, knowledgeable, very friendly. LeeAnne - manager on duty. I arrived early with the intention of sitting at the bar until my reservation. She seated (sat?) me right away at a table by a window. Perfect! She came by a couple of times to check on me. The customer service was superb. PLIN! Get it. Get three plates and hoard. Get five plates and share. These tiny pork-filled ravioli are delicious! Sage butter. Mmm! After finishing, I felt a twinge of regret having ordered the halibut - at that moment I wanted more plates of plin! FUN FACT - a woman comes in four days per week and her ONE job is to make plin. God bless her. Wild Alaskan halibut - so good! Halibut isn’t usually my jam. Everything about this plate was delicious! Clams, potatoes, saffron broth. Together they were truly tasty. Triple coconut cream pie - just order it. *swoon* So, to recap: Matches - take! Plin - order! Halibut - order! Coconut cream pie - order! Jonathan and LeeAnn - superb! Palace Kitchen - GO!

Just drinks!

By APinkLady |

We were recommend to come here by the bar tender in Lola's as that bar closed at 9pm and there was a very limited places near our hotel open for drinks. There was no room to sit at the bar, at first the server seemed a little put out that we would be taking a table up for just drinks. However, after we ordered our drinks they seemed to 'get' we were not going to eat and stopped asking us. Service was very good and drinks were good. If back in the area I would consider eating here as the food did look really good.

Great food, attentive service, be aware of 20% gratuity automatically added!

By LochLake |

We went to Palace Kitchen on the recommendation of family we were visiting. We would have sat at the bar if there had been room, as it looked fun and the people watching is good. Our waitress was helpful and attentive. (Be aware that this restaurant tacks on a 20% gratuity automatically, so if you prefer to determine the tip based on actual service, you may not want to go here, or some other Seattle establishments. Do your homework, as this is tied to Seattle's desire to make sure all employees are paid a minimum wage topping $15 per hour.) We had the pan-fried brussel sprouts which were great, the turkey leg, an endive salad and the beet salad. All were well prepared and quickly brought to the table. This is a Tom Douglas restaurant located on 5th avenue between the downtown area and the Space Needle. One of the reasons that I didn't give it the full five stars is that they have some tables that are in a dark, somewhat depressing area, and they might want to make sure the lighting is improved in this section of the restaurant. It affects the experience.

Nice place

By Pradip Kumar Roy Choudhury |

Nice ambience, super friendly service.Nice place to hangout. Rather limited menu if one considers the size of the kitchen. We had chicken wings - excellent.I have never had chicken wings where the meat was so nicely coming off the bones. Dessert menu also limited.Had one of the four cheese selections, supposedly hand crafted. The one I had ordered tasted as good as any Camembert I could pick up in Walmart.

Great atmosphere, open late, food close with a couple of near misses

By MDWandering83 |

I was very excited about my solo trip to palace. Great bar scene that mixes a nice historical feel with something a little trendier at the same time. I sampled a number of drinks (very solid beer and wine selection); and the staff was very professional and friendly. This place would have easily gotten five out of five from me except for a few critical missteps with the food. I got the already well acclaimed burger. There was a lot of potential in the burger but it was ruined by two main things: 1) I ordered the burger medium and it came out with a warm red center; 2) The fries were tasty but the text was totally off with the soggy feeling of overused cooking oil. In most cases I may let one or both of these things slide (aside, I actually like rare burgers I just don't order them for fear of dying) except for the chef-heavy makeup of the cooking team and high end shop this place was supposed to be. More than the issues with the food, my concern was trying to be an aggressively competitive restaurant is inconsistent with such elementary kitchen issues. I would definitely come back though. The killer app feature of this place was that after a long convention day and a run through through the city, I realized it was 9pm before I started looking for a meal. Still trying to figure out why but large swath of downtown restaurants closes at 10pm. This place is a standout with its 1am closing time.

Great kitchen, almost a Palace

By Nelson C |

We were a family with people from Midwest, South America, South and locals celebrating birthday. It’s hard to please so many, but the service was excellent. The food was praised by almost all, the wine with good temperature and they even improvised a piece of birthday cake. I recommend it for a group party which requires challenging demands.

I love this spot for small plates and good service.

By Todd D |

Tom Douglass owns most of the restaurants on this block and this, as well as his others, offers great food and atmosphere. I live 3 blocks away and still visit regularly.

Quick Service, Great Food.

By courbs51 |

We shared starters along with a salad and found that to be adequate. The ribs were particularly delicious. The berry pie and icecream was big enough to share....well nearly, it was as though it came from my mother's kitchen....with old fashioned biscuit pastry. There was a vibe to the place and the waitress was friendly and helpful. A 20% surcharge is added for the tips. We did walk in off the street on a Friday night, it may be better to book if in a larger group.

Hidden Gem

Another Tom Douglas eatery in Seattle. The clams was so delicious served with perfect crusty bread for dunking. The chicken was a generous portion. Good food and great atmosphere

Great Restaurant Week Dinner... Went Back the Next Night !

By Jan_from_Atlanta |

We had a great Restaurant Week dinner (3 courses for $35) with friends when we visited Seattle, so we returned the next night. The coconut pie is killer good. Excellent service both nights. Perfect spot for dining prior to a show at Jazz Alley, which is literally next door.

Great late night option

Palace kitchen stays open until 1am. The food is good and they have a full bar. The service is good too. The prices are a little higher than I expected but not exorbitant.

Guests from out of town, both knowledgeable global travelers. We suggested Palace Kitchen, with a last minute reservation. Staff accommodated a variety of food sensitivities with aplomb and produced a wonderful experience of taste, texture and presentation. Nothing over the top, but well prepared and satisfying plates. The braised oxtail campanelle was wonderful, as was the albacore and the strip loin. Desserts are all good, especially the seasonal offerings of berry or plum or other cobblers, pies, ice creams, etc... Just point at one or two and ask for multiple spoons and forks. You won't be disappointed.

Say I Do to Fondue

By Raventwisp |

Wow this was a great late night meal in Belltown. Lavendar goat cheese fondue, we split the burger, and topped it off with chocolate crepe for dessert. Never was a fondue person until now!

Popular spot with diverse and appealing menu

By Bill M |

A great place for both locals and visitors. Friendly vibe. Lots of intriguing options on the menu, and the roasted clams were absolutely wonderful, with just a bit of smokiness. An easy, relaxing place to enjoy a bit of Belltown Seattle. Helpful servers.

Trendy restaurant in the shadows of the new Amazon Earth Atrium

By Quest776340 |

The restaurant was alive with 'tech-types', full of energy and positive vibes. It was on the noisy side, and the food was creative, but not superior. I found that the PNW's version of gumbo, while tasty, fresh and great seafood, lacked the 'heat' of Nawlins...nonetheless, we had a great time, good drinks and good conversation.

Wish I had known about this place years before

By tbII |

Have been coming to Seattle for over 30 years and regret not coming here before Smell of apple wood smoke gets your attention upon entering . Top quality cooking and fair prices. Grades service and informal setting make for an enjoyable and comfortable evening

Very nice, something for everyone

By Wendy B |

While visiting friends in Seattle we came here after a very busy day site seeing. We were a party of 8 (4 kids 5yrs thru 9yrs), they were very accommodating to our children serving them first and giving them buttered noodles and fries. Us adults had selection of small plates, we shared all of it was delicious, and followed by the famous coconut cream pie.

Best second dinner!

By rpauleliot |

We always come here after the seeing the Seattle Symphony on our way back to our hotel. Great spot for a late night second dinner!

Disappointing - won't be back

By Lee G |

Stopped by here last Saturday evening on way home from shops. Surprised to get a table at peak time. Now I know why. Steak was good (my husband had this) but he asked for a side of fries instead of potato. This didn't happen. Waitress was not paying attention though she appeared to be. Fries arrived several minutes after main course and were overcooked, cold and soggy. Chicken dish I had was very mediocre. Waitress was useless. She didn't even ask at the end how everything was, as she clearly knew. No incentive as they slap on 20% service automatically. This restaurant has definitely gone downhill since my last visit. Very pricey.... Not good enough..... The couple at the table beside us left before the waitress came back to take their order. Clearly weren't happy with service either. Why would I come back?

Wonderful food, great service

By Kim W |

Had a delicious burger but they have a lot of seafood options as well. The service was great & the 20% is included in the price which I really liked.

Fancy, But World Class

By Carol Banks Weber |

I met Tom Douglas at his flagship restaurant, Palace Kitchen, once. I stood near the entrance, waiting with a packed crowd. This place is popular, especially after Jazz Alley shows. He noticed me right away, said hello, asked if I'd been helped yet, and directed the nearest staff to find a table for me and my husband. That's the kind of restauranteur, and gentleman, he is. I almost squealed with delight. Actually, I did kind of squeal, "You're Tom Douglas! I listen to your radio show on KIRO-FM every weekend!" He got a kick out of that. Every time we come here, we're treated like kings and queens. Even though the food tends to be on the fancy, expensive side, every ingredient is top-notch, as locally sourced as possible, and paired well for the best NW culinary experience. We've come so often — ever since we moved here from Hawaii in 1996 — that we we're bound to have favorites. The Plin, pork-stuffed little rectangular ravioli in butter sauce, is the best ever. I've had terrible Plin elsewhere. Goat cheese lavender fondue with sliced apples, pears, and grilled chunky artisan bread (he also owns a bakery next to Dahlia Lounge on 4th Ave.). The server will re-fill your bread and fruit! Burger Royale with an obscene amount of crispy nearly shoe-string fries. The kitchen will also make a custom-order tartar sauce for my husband, no problem. They should put that on the menu permanently. When we last visited, we took a friend from Arizona there for dinner, and discovered something wonderfully new on the dessert menu: ricotta and chocolate chip donut holes, with a hint of orange zest. The donut holes were slightly larger than average and dripping in Nutella. We had vanilla and caramel ice cram with the donut holes. Bliss! Our server told us the donut holes were relatively new. Hopefully, they'll keep them on the menu and adjust seasonally. I can totally see them offering raspberry sauce for summer and apple-cider for fall. What's really awesome is how late it's open most nights. It's like the most happening late-night spot, a classic, and highly sought-after for the best people-watching. No matter how busy they are, they always find room for one more.

Little value for very high prices

By Liz G |

I miscalculated on this one. Please don't spend your hard-earned money here. If, on the other hand, you're rolling in dough, you might like this place. We ordered three appetizers and one (1) beer and were charged $70. They put a 20 percent service charge on all orders. The food is exorbitantly priced, even for pricey Seattle. The crab legs I ordered were supposed to have been cut because the place didn't have claw crackers. They weren't. I struggled through one and then got the server to take it back and cut them. She brought it back all taken out of the claws for me, which was very nice, but the crab meat was overlooked. My husband enjoyed his food but thought it overpriced. The server was very pleasant and contrite about my order, and it was not her fault. The ambiance is nice but when it got crowded, you could not hear your table mate.

Great spot

By angelmarie14 |

The food is delicious and unique. The atmosphere is gorgeous. The service was very team oriented and very friendly. Another great restaurant in Seattle.

Lively restaurant with great atmosphere.

By LolaLanes |

We stopped by for an after dinner drink. The restaurant was still packed at 10pm. Although we did not eat, the food that was served, especially the rotisserie chicken looked very appetizing. It is a Tom Douglas restaurant so the quality of the food should support how good it looked.

Interesting menu, great atmosphere

By Stacey B |

We took a group of people here for a business dinner. It was a hit. Prices are mid-range. Food is interesting. Fondue was awesome! Also recommend the coconut pie.

Disappointed

By jafox |

I had high hopes for this place. However, the menu wasn’t very appealing and the service was lacking. We should have left after waiting and being greeted rather rudely. We waited in the bar and the bartender was nice. We were seated in a back room and basically ignored. We ordered the warm sourdough rolls and they were awful- how do you screw this up? Everyone at the table said they were day old and stale and the server removed them from the bill, I think. Just a blah evening- I wish we had gone somewhere else and not wasted one of our meals here. Happy to be contacted by management to provide more detail.

Great Food!

By EleanoreE |

We came across this restaurant while walking back to our hotel after exploring the downtown area. Walking by, the restaurant appeared to be very lively which drew our attention: the windows were open, the menu was intriguing, etc. We dined there as a party of 8 and were able to get a reservation on a Friday night. Upon our arrival our table was ready; it was very loud however, which is why I did not give the restaurant 5 stars, otherwise I really liked the ambience. I waited too long to write this review so I cannot remember all of the food items we ordered but there were some standouts: I had the Salmon special which was excellent; a few people had the hamburger and fries which were excellent as well. One person in our group ordered the corn on the cob appetizer and it was delicious. The rib appetizer was also very good. The drinks were great as well as the desserts. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Our waitress was superb, taking the time to explain everything to us tourists as you could tell there is a local feel in the place. The prices, although expensive, are comparable to other cities. This restaurant was a welcomed surprise after the dinner the previous evening (tourist trap place). I highly recommend this restaurant although it is very loud so that should be taken into consideration if dining with older/hard of hearing folks.

Great place for your weekend in Seattle.

By sambista girl |

We really loved crepe and and a drink with elderberry liquor called the Violet. Everything was delicious and affordable

Best meal in town

By love2travel49022 |

We returned to Seattle after 13 years and the only place we had to return to was Palace Kitchen. While trout filleted at the table. Delicate cod cooked to perfection. Yummy focaccia bread served piping hot with seasoned butter. Dessert amazing pear sorbet topped off our fine fish meals. Laura our server was delightful. Great service. Specialty cocktail fete violette beautiful and delicious. There is a reason they’ve been in business since 1996!

Interesting menu, well prepared food, great service!

By Rick L |

This is surely worth a visit when in Seattle. Really tasty food, interesting and eclectic menu, nice wine list and great service. Had the warm marinated olives, the roasted mussels and the handmade creste di gallo pasta, all we're well prepared with spot on flavors. The wines are well selected and fairly priced. The service was friendly and attentive.

Good food terribly over priced

By littlefeller |

This is a popular down town restaurant known for serving typical Seattle fare. We had pork loin, mussels, and smokey wings. While the food was tasty, portions were very small. We each had a glass of wine and we shared a dessert. The dessert, coconut cream pie, was especially good. Due to the excessive price, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Very good food and service......but very pricey for this type of restaurant

By Whatsupdoc525 |

No complaints about the food or service. All was quite good. But 2 cocktails, 2 starters, 2 main dishes and 2 coffee with NO dessert.........$153.00 For a noisy bar-like resto-grill with tv screens on the wall. Are you kidding?!

Excellent

By themntraveler |

Atmosphere is cool - service and food was great. I normally don't eat fries, but couldn't stop eating them.

Nice place for low key glass of wine

By Anitafineday |

People seem to hop in and out of this place for a glass of wine maybe in their way to other events? Located in the trendy Belltown area of downtown Seattle, this is one of Tom Douglas' stable of restaurants serving quality local food in unpretentious relaxed settings. Always a great place to meet a friend for a glass of wine and a shared cheese plate.

The way to run a restaurant

By Gary C |

As visitors in Seattle we were looking for good dining experiences and stumbled over the Palace Kitchen after the jazz. First observation was the friendliness and welcoming approach by the staff together with some banter between the staff. Everyone in the restaurant was happy! The food was excellent with some amazing options and the wine available matched any food. Lots of advics from the staff from drinks to portion sizes. The waiter also advised that there are new laws in Seattle relating to wages and so the restaurant has adopted a flat 20% tip that is added on to all bills and there was a written explanation on the menu. I thought this was a bit odd and would have willingly paid more but I later found out there are a range of addressing these laws by various restaurants.

Good food, nice atmosphere

By souldancer2 |

Attended here after a conference. The wait staff were great, got us in on reservations, were friendly and accommodating. Food was very good, we loved the trout! Although I prefer my squash soup a little sweeter, everything else was wonderful!

Great Service

By Julessssss |

Palace has a somewhat limited menu and the tables are tight but the food and the excellent service makes up for these things. our server was friendly and very efficient. She was very knowledgeable regarding all items on the menu. We both chose hamburgers. One medium rare and one medium well and they were both cooked perfectly. We thought a beer would go good with the burgers but couldn't decide on which one so our server brought us a couple of samples of ones she thought we would enjoy and they were perfect for what we were looking for.

What an absolute treat

By Deby E |

We went here in our last evening in Seattle and what a joy it was. The staff are just fantastic and the food incredible. The beet caponata and the goats cheese and lavender fondue and the amazing fried Brussels, sprouts with orange sauce were just sublime. Dirty martinis superb. Thoroughly recommend.

Decent burger, energetic crowd, late meal

By JimLosAngelesLetsGo |

This is a convenient place to go if you find yourself staying at the Westin down the street (avoid the Westin if you can). The crowd was energetic on a Wednesday night at 10pm and I was able to get a seat at the bar and order a decent burger. Service was prompt and friendly.

Good Late Night Spot

By YoMcTraveler |

I dined at this restaurant after arriving in Seattle late last night and was pleased to have a good meal here. Their fried chicken and waffles was uniquely prepared and done well. If not for my desire to try out as many restaurants as possible while visiting Seattle I would definitely pay this place another visit.

Delicious Hamburgers!

By DeeAreAre |

This restaurant is so, so good. I ate at the Palace Kitchen with my son and daughter one evening after a baseball game. We were starving, so we each ordered hamburgers and fries. Talk about an abundance of food! Hint: the order of fries is so large, think about sharing with someone. As in customary in Seattle, the restaurant adds in a 20% gratuity. We had an interior table, a nice waitress, and delicious food . . . couldn't ask for more!

Amazing, simply amazing

By Gregory S |

Food was amazing, service was outstanding, check out the other restaurants. Try the burger with pickled tomatoes and the fondue!

Convenient with good food and helpful staff

By RcikS |

Less than two blocks from the Westin, this place is deceptive. it has a big neon sign but it also has creative appetizers and entrees with even more creative drinks and desserts. We had just flown to Seattle from New York and were looking for something within walking distance that would serve a real meal. Our waitress made some excellent suggestions and we were quite pleased. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an unpretentious experience but very good food.

$20.00 for a drink?

By Debbie F |

This was most disappointing! We have been to most all of Tom Douglas' restaurants. We will NOT be returning here.

Amazing food, friendly service

By Kathleen2cats |

I had a delicious whole trout that was moist inside and crisp on the outside. The smoked burrata beet salad was excellent. My husband had the pastrami braised lamb shoulder. He loved it. For starters, we tried the pigs ears poutine. First time we've eaten pigs ears and they were good. They simmer them until soft, shred them, and deep fried them. Served with gravy and cheese curds. Surprisingly good.

Excellent Happy Hour

By Howattp |

I got into town a bit earlier than my evening showtime, and had some time to try the Palace’s happy hour. It’s just around the corner from the Cinerama, and they had a wonderful hosts, knowledgeable bar staff, and great food to boot. The prices are fantastic and the quality was stellar.

Attentive service, excellent around the edges

By ColbertGD |

Solo this time at dinnertime on A Tuesday and sat at the bar. It was not crowded but was mildly busy. I ordered the ravioli and thought it was unremarkable (average). I also tried the bread as a side and found it was excellent: their regular bread was fresh and had texture (that's good) and the sweet potato bread was light with a nice sweetness. The noise level was loud and unremarkable, even unthought about by management with the clash of the various sources of noise. Service was very good. The bus lady was prompt and very pleasant with a very sweet genuine smile. The back bar team needs to look like they enjoy their job and perhaps even their customers. Perhaps it was a tough night but nothing in my observation made it so.

Disappointed, failed to meet expectations

By globalfinder312 |

The Palace Kitchen fell off my list of go-to places this trip. While the service was as friendly and professional as it has always been, and the place has a wonderful contemporary vibe, the food was a major disappointment. The menu has been abbreviated and the emphasis seems to have shifted from Northwest/American cuisine, to something else. Even the wines by the glass now lack much of a PacNW flavor. Perhaps the corporate bean counters are putting profits ahead of quality fare? With the exception of the burger and fries, the food seemed prepared ahead of time and reheated prior to serving. Another possible explanation is kitchen staff lacks the necessary skills or exposure. There is excellent French onion soup elsewhere in downtown Seattle. PK's version was neither a nod to an authentic version (hence "French") or tasty in its own right. It was too salty, had too many onions, too little cheese (not Gruyere and/or not properly broiled) and was served in too large of a bowl. The roast chicken arrived in four-layers: mashed potatoes, roast chicken, romanesco sauce, and curly endive. In addition to not expecting a "composed" dish, the chicken skin wasn't crisp (it was face down in the potatoes) and tasted artificially smokey. For me, the smokiness did not complement the sauce. And separately, while the hamburger itself was good, the ratio of bun to meat was about 3 to 1. This entree needs more meat and fewer fries to be worth the price. After 15 years of enjoying wonderful meals at the PK while traveling in Seattle, alone and with family, the food was a major disappointment. The service continues to be great.

Late nite Bites

By Heidi C |

Great restaurant open till 1am, the lavender goat cheese fondue my favorite. Don’t miss the chef special served after 10 PM. Everything about this place is wonderful, again another Thomas Douglass restaurant that hits all the Marks. And again the staff loves working for this man makes your dining experience even more enjoyable.

Go now!

By Lauren A |

Do not miss out on this gem of a restaurant. Excellent location, easy walk from many downtown hotels. Unless you have a larger party they do not take reservations. Unique decor greets you as soon as you walk in the front door. The menu changes seasonally, but there are a few staple items always on the menu. Highly recommend the chicken wings on the appetizer menu. And you simply can't go wrong with the royal burger. Dessert? Yes please. The coconut cream pie is the signature dessert.

Fabulous food, great service!

By kayak395 |

We started with drinks and appies. Brussels sprouts were amazing, fondue was interesting, worth trying and the chicken wings were tasty. Ordered our main course, chicken And the ny steak, both were fantastic. Even better was our amazing server, she was attentive, gave great recommendations and helped make our last night in Seattle special. Will be coming back next time we are in town. Try the creme brûlée, so yummy!

Date night at the Palace Kitchen

By shermjp |

We got there right around 7pm and got a table by the window for 2. There was also space at the bar, not bad for a Friday night. Our server was very chill, gave us a free refill of wine for "forgetting to bring a steak knife" with our plates...she brought me one 2 minutes later with no prompting. We got the brussel sprouts and beet salad appetizers, both were delicious. My wife ordered a pumkin & sausage pasta and I got the New York strip. The steak was good but not great though I liked the herb butter, it was cooked well and the mashed potatoes and greens were high quality...just not sure that particular cut of meat was the best especially for the price. We ordered the apple crisp for dessert and received a cherry crisp, apparently the Dahlia Bakery that provides these sometimes makes changes and doesn't let them know, that's ok though, it was delicious! This is a tom Douglas restaurant so to me that means you are going to get some complex, unexpected flavors and that was certainly the case. That also means it is pricy and we only went because we had gift cards. Certainly worth a dinner here, especially for a special occasion but do know it will be a bit expensive and there is a 20% gratuity charge (we knew before we went and have no problem with this). We have also been to the Dahlia Lounge for dinner which of the two I prefer but both of those spots are worthy dinner places.

Happy hour drinks after an afternoon game at Tmobile

By 302debit |

I love this spot for drinks, dinner, snack time or lunch. Every time I go to Seattle I try to get over here for a visit. The owners/staff are excellent and make me feel at home. They've come up with some unique small plates and to share ideas that taste out of this world. Highly recommend this place!

I will return!

By ReaderPat |

My son and I stopped here after enjoying a show at Jazz Alley. We were just going to have a cocktail, but the restaurant smelled so good that we also ate. I had a delicious glass of syrah from France. We split appetizer ($13 goat cheese lavender fondu with wood-grilled bread, gala apples, and d’anjou pears) and an entrée ($22 english pea panisse with black sheep creamery fresh cheese, roasted Tokyo turnips, snap peas, sunflower tahini, and harissa vinaigrette). This was the tastiest vegetarian meal I can imagine. The service was stellar. I love the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant. I will definitely return on my next trip, and I give this restaurant my highest recommendation.

Not what it used to be.

By Pamela B |

From the starter section of the menu: They changed their mussels recipe for the worse. The grilled octopus was very good.

Amazing out of the way place!

By Scott M |

My girl and I were out and about later in the evening and discovered this amazing little place. The atmosphere was trendy with a great playlist with an excellent wait staff. Though we were just there for drinks and desserts, the server we had was attentive and on point with her wine and dessert recommendations. We ended up staying longer just because. Interesting to note, a large portion of their food is organic and purchased from local farms. A plus in my book as I am all about keeping business local.

Once great, now lacking

By dashing_pilot |

This used to be one of my favorite places. The food is pretty good, the space itself is interesting. However, the service has gotten really bad. I have gone twice in the last 2 months. Both times they got my order wrong. Not minor mistakes, but radically wrong. I ordered a first course that never even showed up on the last time. For the money you are spending... you should not have these kinds of problems in my opinion. Really a shame... I am a big Tom Douglas fan. His other places continue to be very great. Go to Carlile Room or Lola if you are looking for a Tom Douglas experience.

WOW! WOW! WOW! What a find!

By Glendyne R |

From the moment we walked in and saw the fun vibe and were greeted by the friendly hostess we knew we were in for a fun night out. Our waiter and the rest of the staff were very attentive. Our waiter made great menu recommendations and the bus boy was always there to remove plates and fill our water glasses almost immediately. My husband and I shared a bunch of appetizers with some of the highlights being the piedmontese style ravioli, the wood grilled chicken wings with cilantro sour cream, and my favorite the goat cheese~lavender fondue with apples, pears, and their specialty wood grilled bread for dipping. We also topped off our fabulous evening with some desserts: the strawberry shortcake and the chocolate mint layer cake. The desserts were the perfect size. There is an automatic 20% tip added to the bill and it says right on the bottom of the menu that this tip is divided evenly among all the staff. The staff definitely earned that tip, in fact we wanted to leave more but there was no option to. We loved our experience here and are adding it to our "must visit list" every time we are in Seattle.

Good food albeit limited menu

By DC_BC_traveler1950 |

Early dinner one evening at the bar enabled me to take advantage of happy hour a dollar off wine and a dollar off the romaine salad. Both were very good. Then from the main menu I had a burger with cheese and bacon added. Burger was done to medium rare perfection. the person next to me had the stew, or perhaps it was chili off the happy hour menu and it also looked good. The place was very busy, and happy hour deals are only available when seated at the bar. advance reservations if you want a table are essential.

Wonderful!

By NonnieR29 |

Wonderful! The service and the food was great! Could not ask for better. I had the trout and my 18 year old great nephew had a steak. Both were cooked to perfection with a side of wonderful potatoes. We walked up on this early one evening and decided to give it a try. So glad we did!

Very happy with Palace Kitchen

By Francesca G |

My friend and I enjoyed our dinner here at Palace Kitchen. The Spring Crepe was perfect and delicious, especially because we are vegetarians. We also very much enjoyed the cocktail Fe'te Violetta enough to order a second one! I will go back.

Great food

Nice restaurant with friendly and welcoming staff. Opens 4.30 which was good for us. The menu is a little different but offers a nice array of dishes. The food is well presented and tastes great.

So much goodness

By Stephen R |

Staying at the Westin just down the street and came to the Palace Kitchen on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area. So hard to choose what to eat given I would not be able to share with friends/family (given by myself) but on recommendation of waitress, went with beer and corn salad and small ravioli. Both amazing with the salad just a mixture of goodness I have not had before. A bit dark inside but think that the plan but happily sat near open window on a warm, sunny night. Would come here again and recommend to almost anyone.

Save your money

By nbrown366 |

Hard to believe anybody could rate this restaurant any higher than average.overpriced priced food over crowded, tip is included in bill ( maybe that's a Seattle thing not mine though) I will be here for a couple more days they'll be tons of other places that will deserve my business more than the Palace, sorry nothing personal

Dinner for 2

By Angel C |

Heard about this place being local and excellent - it was! Pistachios served at the bar! Very nice. Chef is well trained and knows how to run his restaurant. Locals were friendly and helpful to some out of towners. Definitely will visit again and highly recommend!

Went on a whim ... it delivered!

By Ordongayisherfay |

We just happened to walk by on the way to our air b&b noticed through the window that the food and atmosphere looked great with a gourmet flair. Well turned out it was. Outstanding sauces on mains and presentation (we had the locally caught halibut and NY strip). Great energy too. highly recommended.

exquisite food

By kathy k |

We ate here on the recommendation of the Hotel 5 staff, after a very long and tiring trip from OKC. It was a joy! We got a small arugula salad and a small order of ravioli to split, then finished with their coconut cream pie. Every single bite was perfect, with fresh ingredients and exquisite flavors. The ravioli was the best we have ever tasted, and same with the coconut cream pie :) On the pricey side for what we would normally choose, but well worth it. In fact, we plan to go back again before we head home!

Palace Kitchen

By William K |

Upscale restaurant in southern section of downtown Seattle. Selection was broad and quality very good. Somewhat pricy, but portions were large.

Best Pasta!

By happytraveler8132011 |

Palace kitchen offers late night dining. Our waitress recommended an amazing pasta dish. It was a ravioli called Plin. OMG! Out of this world. We had two orders....

Perfection

By victoriapagz |

We came here on a whim as we were walking around Seattle in search of finding a hidden gem. We found it at Palace Kitchen. We arrived and walked in to this lively and lovely atmosphere. We were seated immediately. My boyfriend ordered one of the beers on draft and it was everything a pilsner should be. However when we were ordering our food, the waitress kept telling us what to order or not to order. I've never had a waitress say oh no, don't order that the pasta is not very good! Haha my boyfriend got the pasta anyways and thought it was very good (small portion tho)! For appetizer we shared the lavender fondue and it was a game changer. It was so delicious I really didn't want it to end! Afterwords my boyfriend received the pasta and i received the chicken. The roasted chicken was unbelievable! Such a large portion, truly delicious and moist! But I think the best part were those potatoes which were creamy and delicious. We also got dessert. My boyfriend got the chocolate peanut butter pie and I got the blood orange creme brûlée. Wow! It was just such a good meal, it was truly worth the bill. This is the true gem of Seattle, eat here and get the chicken dinner and blood orange dessert, you will love it!

Late night surprise!

By Jodie H |

We were hungry after the Arianna Grande concert (11:15 p.m.) and saw that the Palace Kitchen stays open until 1:00 a.m. From the name of the restaurant we didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted warmly by our server Emily and got a seat by the window to watch the rainy night. The interior is dark and smells of wood fire. Emily brought us bread and dipping oil right away. We ordered the roasted carrot and ginger soup and the roasted manila clams. Both were outstanding. The soup had shiitake mushrooms, pieces of roasted chicken, coconut milk and cilantro. The clam broth was a tomato base with saffron, smoky ham and lemon. I'm sure I'm missing other ingredients but those are the ones I tasted. So delicious. Emily seemed genuinely happy that we were happy with our food. I'd love to go back to try some of their other dishes. This restaurant adds on 20% gratuity to all tabs to be shared by all workers. The service was great so no complaints here.

in a world of Tom Douglas, this place was the best

By Alberto |

Whilst in Seattle on our honeymoon, we plan our vacations around food, so after hearing from many people that we must try Tom Douglas places while in Seattle, we figured we would try one.. and it worked out for us to try one for a late night dinner. Lets start with the atmosphere, super hip late night place.. more gastro-pubby then restaurant with the bar taking up most of the square footage, but still nice, place to eat. The food, the food was good, seeing him on top chef, and hearing from soo many people about his places, we had super high expectations, now maybe that may have worked against him as we were not blown away by the food, but it was in fact very very good, now what was Amazing was the coconut cream pie.. BOMB! That is all I have to say. My wife who doesnt even really like Coconut LOVED it. The Service - The service by far and away was the best part of this experience. Eric, was amazing. from the moment we got there he was on it.He was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu, we never had an empty glass, and made a point to congratulate us on our honeymoon. He took pride in his work, and pride in being a part of the Tom Douglas family. When we told him about our intent to try more of the TD Restaurants he gave us pointers, and tips about every single one of them. Told us what we should get at each, you could see how happy he was to be a part of that family of restaurants. He single handedly got us to make sure we tried at least 1 TD Restaurant the rest of the time we were there. In closing, the restaurant was cool feel, who serves the whole menu til I believe at least 1am. The food is really good, and service is excellent. Tom Douglas if you are reading this. Just know Eric made us a fan of yours for life. So I hope you have all your servers just like him.. So if you do go there.. Ask if you can sit in Eric's section, he is amazing.

Excellent meal & service.

By rjs15 |

1) Probably one of the best meals of the trip. Rotisserie chicken was delicious; moist yet with crispy skin, and a blueberry sauce. I had a chocolate peanut butter pie for desert, it was a individual pie with wonderful whipped cream. Joelle was a very attentive but not intrusive waitress, who was enthusiastic about the food. If one is in Seattle, this is a great place to eat – not expensive, not cheap – chicken entrée was $28, burger around $15.

Service was excellent

By Rob K |

We popped in at 9:45 pm on a Friday without a reservation and were seated right away. The service here is fantastic, our son was starving and our server read his mind and immediately brought him his favorite buttered noodles while we read the menu. That was a very classy move, and damn those buttered noodles looked amazing, like they were home made noodles! The food we ordered was very good, but though they pride themselves on their burgers I didn’t think mine was 5 star, the big bun was a little too bready for my taste.

Delightful atmosphere and tasty food

What a great location walk-able to and from many other things downtown. A friend and I popped in for a late bite to eat and some drinks. The wine by the glass offerings here were excellent, our server surprised us with some very nice local selections. We sampled a few of the appetizers but the stand outs were definitely the brussel sprouts which were fabulous, sweet and tangy with sesame seeds, and the lavender goat cheese fondue which was very light and perfectly balanced.

A good recommendation.

As we were looking at the outside menu outside the Palace Kitchen restaurant, a local family spoke up to recommend the place to us as they themselves entered. We took them at their word and my wife and I also went in. Although busy, and a Friday evening we received prompt and friendly service, ordered drinks and meals. Again these arrived in a timely fashion as meanwhile we admired and pondered the interesting décor and architecture. There is a fascinating authentic story to this most interesting building which is well worth finding out more about when you visit….as you definitely SHOULD visit. Our food was excellent….similarly those served on our neighbouring tables also looked really good. Prices were acceptable and the service is excellent. The toilets are clean and well maintained, staff in the open kitchen look well organised and happy and this is also reflected front of house. It is conveniently located on a well-lit street near various hotels and also has parking very nearby. We were grateful to the local family who recommended the Palace Kitchen and I am very happy to recommend it to you.

This bar / restaurant has great atmosphere but my food was disappointing.

By Roberts69 |

I was looking forward to a good burger and so went to Palace Kitchen. On walking in the lively atmosphere, low lighting ambience and lavish decor set the scene for a nice dinner. I ate at the bar which was actually a nice spot. However my Palace Burger was a big disappointment. There was far more bun than beef and the beef patty was rather dry and pretty tasteless. One of the worst gourmet burgers I've ever had (and I've had plenty in my time). The other thing that I did not like was the fact that there was a compulsory 20% service charge on the bill, (which is also taxed), with an explanation printed in the menu and on the receipt that basically says they charge it as they have better staff and offer them better benefits. A service charge / tip is at the discretion of the customer and should not be added automatically just because management think their staff are more special and treated better than others!! In short I would not eat here again.

Tremendous Dining Downtown

By Blake O |

Everything was exceptional. Food was 10/10. Service 10/10. Atmosphere 10/10. One of my favorite places on the west coast. Can't wait to get back. They turn tables fast and even though it was busy we didn't wait long for anything.

Chipotle would have been better.

By Elico_10 |

Who are you, the people that gave this restaurant a 5 star score? The dishes are mediocre at best and so not worth the price we paid. I'm leaving the restaurant hungry. Seriously... STAY AWAY!

Expensive for what we had

By Tula45 |

Had a small cheese fondue, two burgers, wine x 2 glass and a beer and it was over US$100.00, so while it was all very nice it was very expensive!

Great food and it's open late

By Judi P |

Add this one to your list. We chose Palace Kitchen because it was a block from our hotel. What a great choice! The atmosphere was great and our 18 year olds loved the overhead music. Our waitress was top notch, I believe her name was Holly. We started with the fried corn appetizer! Yum! Never tasted anything like it. The girls each ordered burgers and in their words, thought they were the "best ever"! Hubby enjoyed the wings and I ordered the rotisserie chicken with a blueberry compost - wow! Double wow! As a bonus, they're open late.

Delicious food, friendly environment

By Cryste74 |

We walked in early on a Friday evening. The hostess greeted us with a warm smile that didn't falter when we said, "No reservation." Luckily, we were there before the dinner rush and were seated immediately. Andrea, our server, was a delight: engaging, informative, and fun to chat with. The additional restaurant staff we encountered were just as nice and fun. Truly, the people perfected the dining experience. We started dinner with the lavender goat cheese fondue and the enormous garlic crouton and romaine salad. We weren't sure what to expect with the fondue, but oh my, was it good! The pears and apples were the perfect combo with it! I loved the enormous crouton, too. For our entree we split a pork loin dinner. The flavors were great together. And it was just enough food after having the two appetizers. Especially since we were saving room for the caramel apple brioche! Warm, melt in your mouth goodness! It paired well with the #5 for me. Can't wait to visit again!

Great steak

By JD_Cestrian |

I visited and reviewed the Palace about 18 months ago, which was excellent. Tonight I had the NY striploin, excellent. Unfortunately on this occasion I can only give 4 🌟 because the gin and tonic which I had was far from excellent. $25 for a double Hendricks, with flat (not fizzy) tonic water, the glass was an old fashioned and therefore too small which made it super strong (due to lack of space for tonic). I don't think the great gin pandemic which has taken off in the UK has reached Seattle yet. Quality gins are supposed to be served in a 'Gin Balloon' glass, with quality tonic (eg Fever Tree), copious quantities of ice and fruit to match the gin type. Again steak was superb. When I visit again I'll stick to the beer.

Great atmosphere

By JTinAK |

This place had excellent service (I had no problem with the pre-included 20% gratuity add on). The chicken wings were some of the best I've ever had, not "buffalo wings" just damn good tangy wings! Chicken 'n biscuit was pretty good too.

Palace fun

By Bones6t |

This is a great restaurant, which I ate at following a local's suggestion. Food quality, service and atmosphere here are superb. I would gladly eat here again

Great for late night comfort food

By Barbara K |

I hadn't been here in many years, and went with a group for late night dinner after a concert. The food was all really good - rotisserie chicken, gigantic turkey leg, ravioli. I thought the brussels sprouts were too sweet, but everyone else loved them. Didn't really care for the goat cheese with lavender fondue taste, but others did. Good cocktails and interesting wines. Our server was great, especially considering there were some demanding patrons in our group. This is a really solid restaurant! Not surprising I guess - haven't had a bad experience at a Tom Douglas place!

Away overrated

By Raven2140 |

On Sat. night, 4 adults ate here. 3 had poor meals. One was chicken wings, inedible, tasted spoiled and the response was " what else do you want?" No apology or offers. A second was a burger platter asked to be well done. It was delivered still pink inside. A third, mine, was ham with buttermilk biscuits. It arrived as a few very thin slices of ham, half a dozen dime sized pieces of biscuit with a tablespoon of applesauce under. This cost $18.41. Also, you don't know until you read the fine print but they automatically add 20% gratuity so there is no incentive for good service or good food. Who wants to make a scene in a crowded noisy, very noisy restaurant? Since we had no alcohol and I noticed the bar is the feature, go for the drinks, not the food.

Major disappointment

By UnrepentantFoodie |

Ate here years ago where we had a splendid meal--I recall fresh oysters, rotisserie chicken fresh from the wood fire, the best hamburger and fries ever, and an appetizer plate that included the most delectable little green orbs--pickled baby peaches with truffle. I didn't return expecting to re-create that meal--menus change, and they should. But I didn't expect to have a burger (and fries) less good than the last, a genius-sounding appetizer of buffalo sweetbreads served tepid-cool instead of crispy hot, an overcooked pasta dish, and a perfectly awful "rotisserie" porchetta in which had no rotisserie or genuine porchetta flavor but instead had been pre-cooked god knows when then sliced and grilled off to order, tasting mostly of char. Some very good chicken wings and a gin-rosemary cocktail were the only things we ordered that met expectations for a restaurant of this caliber or reputation. Worst part is that we took some Canadian friends. I raved in advance about the restaurant, and the experience only left them confused about my judgement. Sorry I can't be more positive.

Date night dinner!

We are big fans of all Tom Douglas restaurants. And Palace Kitchen doesn't disappoint. The menu continually changes taking advantage of the seasonable vegetables. Everything is good!

Always worth a visit

By EHF |

This was my second time in this restaurant. I was here 2014 together with my wife and we were very pleased with the food and wine; and now again in 2017 together with a bunch of business colleagues. Some of us had food, others only drinks. This was no problem at all. The food is very nicely prepared and arranged and the taste is good. I will come here a 3rd time if I return to downtown Seattle

Yummy food, drinks & great server

By Vacatn-dreamer |

Great food & drinks! Nice lively atmosphere. Liked the option for small or large plates. I highly recommend the Lavender Rosemary Lemon Drop. Our server Eric deserves 5 stars as well. He was super friendly, helpful & attentive. He seemed to understand our needs & helped us order for a late night meal & drinks.

Great bites and drinks!

If you love fresh local ingredients, come to Palace Kitchen. It's casual and perfect for a lunch or dinner with friends....and try their special salads and featured favorites!

Great Seattle Dining Experience

By Liz T |

Popped in for an early dinner (5:30) on a Saturday evening before leaving town. Didn't have a reservation for our party of 3 but it wasn't a problem. Service was good and friendly. I had the pan-seared bread dumplings - I wasn't honestly sure what to expect, but as my friend described it, it was like "deconstructed Thanksgiving dinner." Yum! Portion was just right. Another person in our party had the burger and enjoyed it as well. Loved the ambiance and open kitchen. Recommend!

Palace Kitchen is an iconic

By Philip G |

Palace Kitchen is an iconic Seattle bar and restaurant. It was a hangout for people in the “industry,” but as the restaurant staffers grew younger, their hangouts changed. Palace Kitchen has an old school vibe, and that’s perfect for me. The large bar beckoned on this cold Friday night, and we were greeted with warmth and a smile as we strolled to two seats. The staff at Palace Kitchen are professionals. They take cues from the clientele. If you want to engage, they’re willing to talk up a storm. If you want to be left alone, they will respect your space. As I said, “old school.” Pretension isn’t Palace Kitchen. The food at PK reminds me of supper club fare, so popular in my beloved Wisconsin. We shared a copious Caesar Salad, prepared in the traditional manner. I ordered the whole trout, filleted at the bar. This was the only discordant note of the evening. I always feel it wastes a server’s precious time to force them to fillet a fish in front of a patron. Let the kitchen do it! That’s just my opinion. The trout was humongous and delicious. Donna ordered their signature dish, fried turkey leg. She enjoyed it, but wondered why the kitchen crisps up the skin, only to pour gravy all over the leg, defeating the crispness. Next time, she’ll order the gravy on the side. Due to my loquacious nature, our bartender knew we were brand new residents of Seattle. The manager comped us two desserts as a welcome gift. How cool is that! II thoroughly enjoyed the Palace Kitchen, reflecting the true soul of the city of Seattle. The transience of the dot com invasion was left outside, to stew in its own antiseptic tonic.

Great food and service

By 183glen |

We chose this restaurant as it was very close to our hotel and I am so glad we did. The food was excellent! Special mention for our server Eric who was superb and very knowledge regarding where the food was from.

Marvelous find in walking distance of our hotel

pistachios and a good burger

By garrison p |

I had the burger at Palace grill/bar in December on a weeknight. The pistachios at the bar were a great treat. The burger was pretty good, and the fries were great. The atmosphere was pretty good too, especially for conversation (since no large tvs to distract.

Private dining was very good

By NBH_RH2 |

We had a team dinner in the private room and have to say I found little if anything lacking. Service was bright and plentiful and the dishes (served family style) were all very good. Only criticism is we should have ordered more 😀.

Friendly service

Although I've known about Palace Kitchen from the date it opened, this was my first visit. In part it is because they have a limited specialized menu. I went for a simple solo dinner -- a martini and a bowl of pasta. First thing, I was able to easily grab a seat at the bar in an otherwise busy mid-week visit. The place was packed. You immediately get engaged with their bowls of pistachios which is a very nice touch to go with the martini. Not the largest martini I've ever had (it was bare minimum) but tasty, and the server was quite pleasant and efficient. The bowl of pasta was cooked perfectly albeit slightly too much on the salty side. Rigatoni with pork and beef, what I would call a 3/4 portion. Not that much, but you don't walk out super full either. For $22, I didn't think it was very high value. But that's Seattle these days -- it's an expensive place to have a meal. I might go back next time for their rotisserie chicken -- my second choice. Otherwise, there's many other fine alternatives in Seattle.

Great Food!!

By JK |

The food at this restaurant is delicious …. And the staff’s recommendation on food and wine is commendable. It’s a cosy restaurant without air conditioning.

Great choice for a delicious meal

By Charles C |

Palace Kitchen is a Tom Douglas restaurant on Fifth avenue. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table on a busy Tuesday evening. The wait staff was efficient and friendly. Had the chicken wings for an appetizer and their signature burger and halibut. All the dishes we well prepared and delicious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. .meal came to $118 with the tax and tip.

Great atmosphere, service and food.

By PatriciaJoy |

We chose to eat here as it was quite busy and had a vibrant atmosphere as we walked by. And it was a good choice indeed. Eric was our waiter, and a very knowledgeable and professional one. He recommended wines, answered all our questions and was a pleasant person. We wanted only a light meal and our meal choices - mussels with in-house bread, and goat cheese fondue with pear, apple and toasted bread were both fabulous. Highly recommend.

No value for the money

By vanislecanuck |

As visitors to Seattle we found this to be a very expensive restaurant with poor quality food and small portions. Poor quality Hamburger and fries. Beet salad was no more than a few bites of food. Copious amounts of water was served to us as the price of drinks was outrageous and to top it all off, a 20 percent surcharge was added to help pay the employees wages and offset other costs. However, the restaurant was surprisingly busy. After this experience we walked to Whole Foods from our hotel and ate our meals there.

A very pleasant place for dinner

By Barbara P |

The three of us thoroughly enjoyed this place. It has a casual ambience, a very interesting menu, and our server was a delight. It is a bit spendy, but of course we had drinks and a few h'ors d'ouvres for the table to share. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Eclectic Menu - awesome service - nice vibe

By hilda102320 |

We found this place by accident. After a horrible experience last night at Jazz Alley which is around the corner we stumbled on Palace Kitchen. It was raining, we were annoyed by what happened and we were wet. Walked in to smiling faces, were seated immediately, the waitress was a ray of sunshine. The menu is rather different but they do have a variety of small and large plates that I would say are different. We shared a cheese board, some pork ravioli and beet salad. The apple cobbler with ice cream was excellent. The food was definitely good. We will definitely be back. You saved our evening. Awesome service.

Great Food but 12% tax plus 20% service charge?

By Escape801309 |

We recently visited this restaurant and very much enjoyed the dining experience. But, geez, tacking on 12% tax, which I think is almost 2% higher than Seattle allows, and a 20% Service Charge is a bit ridiculous.

Wonderful staff

By TexasArmyNurse |

Dropped in for a evening cocktail and wished we had visited for dinner. The roast chicken looked delicious. Drinks were great and the staff was friendly and very helpful to include writing down sites in the city to visit.

I thought the prices were ridiculous.

By travelsaavy52024 |

We stopped in for one drink. There were 5 of us. $70.00 later, we left. There is a very cool painting on the wall, maybe they are trying to pay for it?

Innovative and sustainable

great vegetarian entrée - chick peas fritters with mushrooms and broccoli rabe - tasty good wine list

Friendly and Fabulous Visit!

By KathLRitz |

I brought a group of clients to this restaurant and my stomach dropped when I realized I had booked my reservation for the entirely wrong month. The restaurant was great in helping to accommodate a large group following my mistake. We continued to have a great meal-the lavender and cheese fondue, halibut and beet salad were all stand outs.

Delightful evening

By Kathy H |

Start with the mussels and end with the coconut cream pie, wonderful meal in a fun atmosphere! Wine and drinks were great, we had oxtail and homemade spaghetti and the chicken dish, fresh, hot and fabulous!

Always great

Always great food and service in a very comfortable atmosphere. So glad that they have reopened to many happy customers.

Good food. However the portions were way too small.

By josephcorbin911111 |

So everything you order at this restaurant expect it to be half of what you normally get. THe wings were good but 14$ for 4 wings come on. I would not go back.Good thing company was paying.
