Wonderful food

By Cheryl M |

This is a wonderful resource on the west side for Chinese food and dim sum. The steamed dim sum pork buns, the custard buns, and the bean paste dim sum dishes were good. But their eggplant with garlic dish, their hot & sour soup, and the moo sho chicken were outstanding. Not greasy, very fresh, and featuring fine ingredients like cloud ear mushrooms and not regular ones as cheap substitutes. Really enjoyed and will be back!

Absolutely delicious dim sum

By niteed |

I loved the food and the experience of having dim sum at the Palace. A friend and I ordered six different items from the carts and we could not eat any more despite our desire to keep sampling the many offerings. My favorite was the sticky rice in lotus leaf, which contained an abundance of various seafood. We also had pork and shrimp shu mai, two types of dumplings (the shrimp and cilantro was wonderful), steamed pork bun, and chicken feet (the first time I'd ever ordered them and I was pleasantly surprised). The very professional staff circulated regularly with the carts, and I truly wanted to try one of everything. The price was very reasonable. The service was very good. It's valet parking, so remember to get your parking validation before you leave.

competitive

By KUNOUS |

Very decent dimsum place in the West LA area, it can certainly compare to the Chinese restaurants in the San Gabriel area where I live... Gary is very helpful manager.. the only con is the parking - valet parking only... but that's not the restaurant's fault...

Good place to have a private dinner.

By Victor H |

We hosted several couples recently. Overall good services, except couple of the waiters are too new and not properly trained yet. Best to order in advance with consultation with the manager to make sure it has the right food in house that day.

The only dim sum Chinese restaurant in West. Los Angeles

By Victor H |

Good place for Cantonese dinner and party. Valid parking, good service and wide selection of dishes. Been there many times and is happy to recommend it to anyone looking for a good Chinese restaurant in West LA.

RUDE people work there

By cbrain |

Re Palace and Seafood Palace: This dim sum place has the rudest people working there! Watch out for the man at the desk who can barely speak English and who shouts at people. He is extremely rude. Unprovoked, he screamed at my friend and me, demanded payment BEFORE we finished lunch, and ruined our time. (The place was not crowded and there was no reason to rush us.) Shame on this place for hiring people who lack people-skills and who are very rude and who dump their anger on guests. I would rate this restaurant lower than one star if I could!

Rude maitre’d

By Esther K |

Good food but rude maitre’d. Personable server. He was curt to two elderly ladies in our party. We will not return.

Authentic but pricey

By Kathy H |

A friend visiting from out of town was staying in Sherman Oaks and requested Dim Sum and that gave me the impossible task to find a decent place not too far away from there. I decided on Palace Seafood instead of the couple of places in Beverly Hills. From the reviews I read, this place seemed authentic without too fancy. It did not disappoint! Seven of us got there around 11 on a Saturday and got seated right away. It was true that they do not (did not) get busy until noon. Even though the restaurant was relatively empty, they had a good selection of fresh hot dim sum dishes. Everything we had was good quality and tasty. The only complaint I have is the radish cake was not hot; It probably should have been kept in a cart w warmer. The service was pretty good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bill w tips was $180 for 7 of us. A bit pricey but it was worth it not having drive to Monterey Park. The shopping center only has valet parking; I dislike it but I guess it saves you trying to find parking elsewhere.

What a Suprise! LA?

By Quasarsoujourner01 |

My niece just graduated from UCLA, and so her mother reserved two tables for our parties near by in Brentwood. We arrived and there was no free parking. However, there was validated free parking though for 1-2 hours at Palace Seafood & Dim Sum We took the elevator up to the 2nd floor and went in. The front desk staff promptly checked us in and informed us that the two reserved tables in the private dining room would be sh9ortly ready. And, not too long, the rest of our parties came and we went to the private dining room. When we were all there, the staff and manager were informed to roll out the pre-ordered dim sum items: And, there were plenty of these small dishes - Steamed juicy Pork bun, Chicken feet, Steamed pork ribs, Shrimp Har Gow, Pork & Shrimp Shi Mai, Egg Custard, Chicken Potsticker, Beef Rice Noodles, BBQ Rice Noodle, Shrimp Rice Noodle, Pork & Preserved Egg Porridge, and two large plates of Seafood Chow Mein and Chow Fun (rice noodle) and more. We must be hungry! They were all tasty and delicious! Especially, we came from capital of cuisine, San Francisco! Each of these small dishes cost about $3.75 each and the large Fried Seafood Rice and wheat noodles cost about $12.00 each. Afterward, when we retrieved our car at the parking lot downstairs, it was only $2.00 for parking! Yes! I would recommend this restaurant if interested in trying some dim sum luncheon near Westwood, Los Angeles!

Good West LA Dim Sum Option

By califoodie |

It hits the spot when you want dim sum but don't want to drive to Chinatown or further east on the 10 Fwy. Consistent and reliable for carrying the most popular dim sum items. Their boba milk tea is not good, however.

Upstairs Dimsum in the Westwood area

By NJfrogge |

Busy upstairs restaurant, fairly large, in an upscale shopping plaza. Valet parking only, was slow and chaotic. Dimsum on a few large carts, moderate item selection, plus some other menu items. Everything we ordered, all dimsum, was ok but nothing stood out as memorable. Management was friendly, we had to take a number and wait a while for a table. Wait staff trying hard with very little english. I’d rate as very good, though below level of best Chinatown dimsum. Convenient location, though

Fun and tasty lunch

By dwg51357 |

Visited here for lunch based on the recommendation of one of our LA hosts and thoroughly enjoyed it. The four of us had a number of plates of dim sum (too many to remember what they all were). Everything was very good. No complaints.

Dim Sum Deluxe

By Thunderberg |

Cantonese styled Chinese cuisine with a wide variety of dishes. Their Dim Sum is great: fresh, tasty, and beautiful to look at. Highly recommended.

Very average dim sum

By Douglas A |

Dim sum is very important to my wife and I. I practically grew up on it in my home town and I make it a point to sample Dim Sum / Yum Cha wherever we are in the world, including Hong Kong of course :) So when we went for our first try of dim sum in LA, at Palace Seafood, we were a bit underwhelmed. Yes, they do the traditional trolleys, and the atmosphere is fun and family orientated. But the dim sum itself was unrefined. The easiest flaw to spot is that the dumplings are too large. I'm a reasonable sized guy and I needed 3 bites to get through a siu mai. The pastry wasn't delicate enough and the range of dishes was small (but that could be because we were too early). The flavors were okay though. So, if you're like us and just want to get your fix of dim sum, not matter what, try it out! But this shouldn't be someone's first introduction to the cuisine.

Great Dim Sum, no crowds, plenty of parking

By Don W |

Love this place for Dim Sum on the weekends. The quality is top-notch, comparable to the huge Dim Sim restaurants in San Gabriel Valley. The nice thing about this place is there's no crowds and plenty of parking ($2 valet lot). The metal steam carts that roam the tables have all the favorites, including chicken feet for those who appreciate that item, in addition to desserts like red-bean sesame cakes and mini custard pies. The service here is quick & friendly. In fact, as soon as you sit down the food carts are at your table, offering you a huge selection of delicious options. And for those of you avoiding red meat and pork, there are plenty of options with chicken & shrimp. I recommend arriving before noon on the weekends to avoid a wait, but I've rarely seen one here.

good quality, limited selection

By Jonathan N |

This restaurant serves dim sum for lunch as well as dinner. They also have a traditional menu which we did not order from. Service was good and the dishes were very tasty. Prices were $5 to $8 per dish, 4 of us were very satisfied for about $60 without tip or alchohol.

Decent Dim Sum

By Anna V |

Nice dim sum restaurant. They serve dim sum every day which isn't easy to find. The selection isn't huge and definitely not the tastiest I have eaten but for the price it's definitely a good option.

Quite a find!

By Frisbe44 |

Looking for Dim Sum in west Los Angeles, we found the Palace Seafood and Dim Sum via a google search. What a surprise, tucked on the second floor of a small shopping center on the corner of Wilshire and Barryington we found just what we were looking for. In addition to a full Chinese menu, they have a quite large selection of Dim Sum. Service was prompt and the serving carts were never far away. Prices were very reasonable for this area and the food quality was excellent. The restaurant was decorated in your normal Chinese Restaurant decor (lots of gold and red) but, that said, the atmosphere was nice, quite, and relaxing. Will be back next time were in Santa Monica and highly recommend

You want pork?!

By Anthony M |

I'm not by any means an expert on Dim Sum, this is only my 4th restaurant. I've come to like it more each time I go but I need to go with a person who is an expert, preferably someone of Chinese decent. This place is good, here in LA there are better, especially those in East Los Angeles.

Good food, but pricey for dim sum

By Deborah W |

Went to this place on the recommendation of a friend. We arrived at 10AM on a Sunday with no reservation and were seated immediately. The carts were quick to arrive; the selection was pretty standard but had some good standouts. Of note were the shrimp and scallop dumplings, the shrimp and leek dumplings, and the shrimp dumplings covered in sticky rice. The tripe was nicely flavored with ginger without being overpowering. We did order 2 items off the menu - the Chinese broccoli and the jellyfish with XO sauce. The broccoli was served with the sauce on the side and was cooked as it should be - crunchy without being chewy. The jellyfish was spicy but really delicious and tender. Some of my favorites came on the carts after I was too full, but I did note that the long noodles were well filled with plump shrimp. One drawback was that there are no carts that will cook the food at the table. It would have been nice to have the turnip cake fried at the table to add some crunchiness on the outside. Service was good and efficient. The main drawback was the price. We were 2 adults and 2 children, with the children eating only egg tarts and sticky rice and 2 soft drinks. The bill came out to almost $100 before tip, with the menu items contributing about $25 to the total bill ($10 for the broccoli!). So if we'd just ordered off the dim sum carts, the bill would have been $75 before tip, which is about double what we would pay in downtown Chinatown for comparable food. Overall, good food with a good selection, but be prepared to pay top dollar for it. Validated valet parking was only $1 for about 90 minutes.

The Best Dim Sum in West Los Angeles

By Victor H |

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in West LA for Dim Sum and quality Chinese dinners. We have been going there for years. Had changed ownerships over the years, but remains one of the best. It is als very good for private room events for 20-40 people.

Great place for Dim Sum in west L.A.

By eddie336 |

We've been going to this place when it was called VIP Seafood restaurant. It was the only Dim Sum place in west LA that we could find. There's no self parking unless you park in the street (they only have valet parking there and you'll have to fork out $1 fee for them). The staff there are mostly Chinese and for us, sometimes it was difficult to understand what they were saying. The food is ok, not great but ok (since it's the only Dim Sum in the westside lol). Price is in the mid range so it was too expensive. I would recommend it if you crave some Dim Sum. Oh and they can be pretty crowded on the weekends so plan to go there early (I believe they open around 11am on Sat and Sun).

Excellent dim sum

By ECrowther |

I knew it was a good sign when we walked in for lunch, the place was full, and most of the patrons appeared to be Chinese. Our party of 6 shared a variety of dim sum dishes brought to the table on carts for you to choose, and they were all delicious! They prepare very nice dumplings and marinate and flavor the meats and vegetables in delicious flavors. There is a bit of a language barrier, so a couple of "kitchen food" items we ordered never arrived after several attempts to inquire about them, but we were entirely satisfied with the dim sum and came away very happy. Reservations are recommended, as this place is popular! Prices are inexpensive, to say the least ($55 for 6 people!).

Disgusting !

By Calle44 |

I’ve been staying across the street for 10 days & was looking forward to dining here . On my last day in L.A . I went for an early dinner of Peking Duck . The management was rude upon arriving asking me “ what I wanted ?” . Ok fine , I laughed it off and asked for a table for one . The duck skin came first with buns & sauce . It was limp & fatty . Duck is my favorite and I’ve eaten it around the world in different presentation’s and loved every bite until today ! BTW , I’ve had Peking duck in China , LA ,New York etc . After the limp & fatty skin came the actual meat which I question is actually duck . It was absolutely “ Off “ . I ordered a half duck & received cut up pieces that were unrecognizable. No leg , no breast etc ... Just thinking about it makes me gag . The manager didn’t ask if I was unhappy as I left the plate untouched after a few bites . I also ordered bok choy & black mushrooms in a garlic sauce which was an oily mess with no flavor . Just a dreadful & disgusting experience.

Nice place to have a lunch, but average overall

By jmLondon845 |

Usual Asian restaurant where you find the Dim Sum that we love. We enjoyed how they cook the shrimps and spice them, not always the case everywhere. We had a good time there and appreciated the service which was friendly.

Great Service, Great Dim Sum

By bbjessie |

Came here with my family for dim sum. Food and service was great. We arrived at a good time, so we got seated immediately. The manager personally greeted us which made us feel welcomed. I would definitely come back again.

Decent food for the westside

By traveler128282 |

Food is decent and service is good. Price is not cheap-- average dish is $10 and up. But their toilet is dirty, even for Chinese standard. Though the restaurant validates parking, ask the manager how much you still have to pay. During the Chinese New Year (Early Feb., 16), we paid $2, but the valet gave me $2 change for a $5 bill. If you don't know, they'll take advantage of you.

Horrible

By Margie C |

The food came soggy. Couldn’t eat shrimp dish as it was so covered in sauce and broccoli and the chicken dish had no flavor. Free delivery doesn’t apply per menu even if you live within three miles. They don’t honor what their menu states. Horrible food. Food was delivered.

Downright awful Chinese food!

By Ethan G |

Not sure if the other reviewers even went to this same restaurant .....but I don't know how they could give this place more than 2 stars max! All the dishes were essentially tasteless with little or no sauce, garlic, spices or yum. I even tried putting soy sauce and chili paste with virtually no improvement. Have you ever eaten Chinese food that needed SALT? This is the 3rd time I have been invited to a group function ( in the meeting room ) and the food has gotten worse each time. I'm not a snob or fancy connoisseur but only the green beans would get even a B. The duck, chicken, noodles, etc. were a waste of unflavored calories. Sorry. Many many good Chinese restaurants around and I would avoid this one!!

Palace Seafood and Dim Sum is terrible. Terrible food, terrible unconcered service. Do NOT go!!!

By wilshireguy |

his is the new restaurant in the location previously occupied by VIP Harbor Seafood, which was the only place to get dim sum on the West Side. Well, there is now no place to go for dim sum on the West Side. The dim sum in this new "restaurant" is inedible. The sesame shrimp, which used to be one of the better dim sum dishes at VIP, was burned and inedible. The other dim sum was tasteless, overpriced and also inedible. I used to go to VIP at least 2-3 times a month, meeting friends who came from the valley to share dim sum with me. NO MORE. I am embarrassed to take anyone there, the food is so bad. I'm not a novice in dim sum, i've eaten it around the world, including in places where I'm the only caucasian there, and so I know what I like, and this isn't it. The new owners or managers couldn't care less what you think, they were rude and dismissive. Maybe if the food were good, it would be worth the effort to get it, since you almost need to tackle the waitresses to have them stop at your table and allow you to order food, but with food this bad it just isn't worth trying to get it. When we complained to the waiter and then the manager, they really didn't understand why we didn't want the food and why we could be upset. They charged for food we couldn't eat and sent back. I paid the bill and then told them that, based on the poor quality of food they served, they should have been embarrassed and ashamed to charge me for it, when we had complained. Their response was to shrug their shoulders and walk away. I will not be back and have warned everyone i know (and there are 50 of us in my office who will no longer eat there, as well as about 20 people who used to meet me there for meals) not to go there. Too bad, i liked having dim sum as an alternative to the italian and Japanese restaurants that dominate the west side. As for "regular" Chinese food, forget it. Greasy, not very tasty and overpriced. You would be better walking down the street to some of the other Chinese restaurants where at least the lousy greasy Chinese food only costs $6 for lunch "specials". This just isn't the place for any food.

A tasty surprise on LA's Westside

By Michael H |

It used to be impossible to find dim sum on the Westside in LA, but this place does a very, very good job of keeping the steam carts filled and a-rolling. We’ve been having Sunday brunch here for many years and this past Sunday, the four of us enjoyed just about everything: a variety of tasty dumplings, especially the shrimp (also with either leek or cilantro), steamed buns, rice noodle rolls, chicken feet, dumpling soup and things I don’t remember the names of – all most delicious. One can always order off their extensive menu, too. They have a full bar and this time we enjoyed a great, sparkling Proseco. Highly recommended if you don’t want to drive 20 to 50 miles for the even more genuine. Easy, cheap valet parking, too. Definitely recommended.

DELISH!

By Hummer615 |

We gone several times as a family (party of 10 & 12). Food and service is excellent. We ordered from the menu as well as the dim sum carts. Since we are such a large party, we always make reservations. We have hot tea as well as the Plum wine. With such a large party we order lots of dishes, all have been excellent. We usually dine for a late lunch. We have also placed large orders to go for the family. Not sure if they have delivery, if we place an order, we usually pick it up.

Don’t expect good service

By Richard Yeoh |

The service very poor. Like to take your plates away when you still have food in them. The saving grace for this restaurant is that the Dim Sum very very tasty. Just go there for the Dim Sum but service need lots of improvement.

Wow! Dim Sum on the Westside!

By StaziaW1 |

I was jonesing for dim sum in the worst way, but didn't want to travel downtown or to Monterey Park. I've been passing The Palace for a few weeks and figured it might be worth a shot. Oh my. It was worth it. My partner and I walked in about 6 pm on a Sunday, were seated right away, and received our items within 15 minutes. Everything, except the beef balls, was excellent. The beef balls were too gelatinous for my taste. The Steamed Juicy Pork Bun - Yum. The Steamed Chinese Sausage Bun - Yum. The Shrimp and Chive Dumpling - Yum. The Chicken Shu Mai - Yum. The Steamed Lotus Seed Paste Bun - Yum and perfect for dessert. Even the green tea was light and fragrant ... and the Spanish peanuts were just the right amount of salty. All of that food was about $30. The Valet is $3. We plan to go again to try other items on the menu! So, yes, try this place out.

Food is above average but add too much MSG

By Ohio food couple |

We had shrimp with Chinese green, ginger oysters and some dim sum. Just less than half an hour then my wife felt headache. My mouth is starting dry. Then we knew that the chef used the food enhancer too much. But the dim sum is so good despite how we had the reaction after meals.

Wonderful Dim Sum and Chinese Food

By William B |

I eat here for lunch and enjoy the lunch specials. Food is excellent and I only with I tried it years ago.

Has gotten better from last year but....

By Ethan G |

After 3-4 meals there, I now realize this is Cantonese style Chinese food with a specialty of a plain kind of unseasoned dim sum. Most dishes are rather bland, tasty but bland. Since I prefer the much more spicy Sechuawan style, this is not my cup of tea so to speak. But it was all pretty good with big scoops of chili paste. Braised green beans especially. Hope this helps you dim sum and then sum lovers.

Average dim sum, good service

By Mohsman |

I eat dim sum a lot and was looking forward to trying this new place. The restaurant is very nice we decorated with a reasonably extensive them so menu and a full assortment Chinese menu items. Unfortunately, the quality of the dim sum and entrées we tried was average in quality, compared to other places. I was a specially disappointed with the "Chinese sausage rolls", Which were in fact American hotdogs in a dim some roll. I ordered their salted and spicy home shrimp, which were decent but quite greasy. The entrée of sliced barbecue pork was too thinly sliced, somewhat brown in color, and looked and tasted as if it had been microwaved. I regret that no one in my party of four would come back.

Really Good Choice

By Zoom_Gotti |

Came here on a Sunday evening. it was one of the few open near this street location. Nice surprise. And it's certainly not all seafood. Offers a wide assortment of dim sum as well as not ususally found main dishes. We ate chicken dumpling, scallop dumpling, hot and sour soup and shared three other plates - one of a sweet chicken, one with clams, another with tofu and mushroom. But make sure they get your order correct. Maybe point on the menu.

Munching Deliciousness

By macorzo2016 |

If you are in LA, like Dim Sum and do not want to trek to Chinatown or Alhambra or to stand in line forever on Sawtelle but are looking for a place on the Westside look no further than the Seafood Palace. It has all the traditional dishes of a Chinese Seafood restaurant but every morning starting at 11 or at 10 on Saturdays and Sundays you can have the convenience of valet parking, the atmosphere of a small Dim Sum place and the wide variety of traditional and not so traditional little bites that make this such a wonderful experience. What is special about this restaurant is that you really get what you expect and will not be disappointed. The ladies pushing their carts and showing their wares are super delighted when you choose one plate that is not traditional for non-Chinese; the service is efficient. You can also order from the menu if you feel you still have room left after an hour and a half of munching deliciousness.

Consistently Good Dim Sum on the Westside

By DaTravelerGuy |

This place has been our go-to dim sum restaurant for years. It has changed names and owners a few times, but the dim sum has remained very good. In fact, it seems to have gotten better recently. I've had dim sum all over LA and also in Hong Kong, so I know what I like. They do the cart thing - which is fun. My only nit-pick is that the selection is a bit light. I understand how hard it is to have fresh and variety in a small restaurant, so I can't really call it a complaint. Love the sticky rice in lotus leaf!

Authentic Chinese Food

By calitravlerone |

my parents are Chinese and visit from the east coast to see me while in Los Angeles. They always make a stop to dine at the palace for fresh authentic Cantonese meal. Dim sum tends to be crowded especially on weekends so dinner is our primary choice. They have fresh seafood and cook to order.

Average Dim Sum

By Newbie_Vacationer |

Coming from Vancouver BC, we were hoping to find some decent dim sum during our recent trip to LA. Decided to try Palace Seafood based on online recommendations. Unfortunately, the dim sum is just so so. If you want to get full on food, then it's ok. But the quality is not really what we're used to. For example, the hargow is very thick skin, shrimp not a lot of flavour. The Xialong Bao is super dry will no more juice inside. There's not even the Chinese vinegar dipping sauce. Service was ok. Food still comes around in push carts. The minute you sit down, they push all of the carts to your table and before you know it, your table is full of dim sum. Waiters were nice when we spoke Cantonese to them.

An Authentic Cantonese in West L.A.

By Frank M |

Palace is close to the great food I've had in Taiwan. With a large menu specializing in seafood, there is much to choose. The service is good and food ranks high. Do not go expecting "Americanized" Chinese food.

Dim Sum tasty food.

Best Chinese restaurant with private rooms in West Los Angeles

By Victor H |

Had a family dinner for 20 in private room. Good service and delicious dinner. It is the only dim sum restaurant in west LA. Valet parking only.

Best west L.A. Chinese dim sum and seafood place.

By Victor H |

Good qualitity food with wide selections. Service is reasonably good. 2 private rooms for up to 12-18 people are provide good family and special functions. Parking is convenient but can be expensive.

Dim Sum for dinner!!!

10 of us went there for dinner, and ordered some dim-sums and some dishes from menu. All tastes so good! It’s very clean inside of the restaurant and service was great too!

Authentic Cantonese Dim Sum in LA

By skma |

Run by a group of cantonese chefs and servers, this restaurant is a gem amidst the hustling busy neighborhood of LA. Price range average. I've been to downtown LA Chinatown with less pricey listing but you won't be disappointed by the wide range of selection and nice atmosphere within. The authentic pork siew mai and prawn dumpling are all worth a try. Gets quite packed on weekends.

Great food and affordable price

By Eunice |

We had sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, some vegetables, and some dim sum. All the dishes are delicious and fresh, we had a great time there and the portion of the food is not small so we were all pretty full and it is not expensive as well. I would recommend coming with three or more people so you can share the food and price. They also offer complimentary dessert at the end of the meal.
