Good Shawarma

By OceanView_415 |

First I have to say that shawarma is one of my favorite go to lunch foods. I have a go to place but today, I decided to try a different spot. I had heard about Palmyra and finally had the chance to go over. I had the recommended chicken shawarma wrap. This is a delicious balance of marinated rotisserie chicken, pickles, yogurt sauce, in a pita. It was very good and it was not heavy at all. Next time I'll likely get the shawarma plate which comes with a salad. Anyway, check it out it's very cheap and very good.

Wonderful Middle Eastern cuisine

By William M |

The menu is chock-a-block with wonderful dishes. Their hummus is so creamy and tasty, and the dolmas are excellent. Every dish we tried was wonderful, especially the lamb. Enjoy!

Great hummus !

By gfeuvray |

Great hummus, a little too much meat compared to the rest of the plate. But real lebanese taste, these guys know how to cook !

Really really good

By Saltrips |

Had an a fantastic meal. The choices and tastes were fantastic. The atmosphere and decor was really interesting. Great value for money could eat here weekly brilliant

Tasty and Great Value

By Consideringthis |

As some other reviewers have said, the looks of this place don't really draw you in, but check out the queues for take out food and you will see that this is an incredibly popular local hotspot. Rotisserie chicken is excellent and the hummus really good. A wide range of freshly cooked, tasty Mediterranean dishes at really good prices. The staff are very friendly and helpful and it's one of those great finds that keep you coming back.

Local Best

By Nktraveler45 |

This is the best place for Mediterranean comfort food. The shawarma and falafel are a must try. It doesn't look fancy but that is what makes the place a local favorite..no frills but the food is Good!

Great Lunch in the Haight

By Yog-Sothoth |

Exploring neighborhoods and looking at houses. Hungry. Needed lunch. Chicken shawarma with great hummus, sour cream, a pita and a little salad for nine bucks. Does the trick. Pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by.

Great local place

By dine-a-mite |

It's not fancy and the atmosphere sometimes has a cold feeling about it. But the friendliness and the food is makeup for all that. The roast chicken comes with a wonderful garlic sauce and the falafel is the best I've ever had (they coat it with sesame seeds.) Remember to save room for the dessert. Turkish coffee with homemade nut cake if fantastic. And, to top all that off, the price is excellent for the quality of the food.

Ideal for family dinner and/or take out!

By Becca B |

Went to Palmyra with my dad and sisters. The menu had options for everyone, even those with dietary restrictions. The food came quickly. The owner and his family took time to talk with us. It was the most positive restaurant experience during our trip. Also, the baklava is a must! Definitely housemade!!! This meal was our most inexpensive and probably best quality.

Fantastic flavor, authentic food

By Robyn H |

I have not had middle Eastern food this good for 20 years since I moved away from Detroit. Fresh and authentic, I loved my schwarma. I had the beef. Hummus was great and the cucumber salad topped it off. If you are in San Francisco on haight, looking at great costumes, (shop across Street)be sure to eat here, your taste buds will thank you and so will your wallet

Amazing people and food!

Causal and cozy eating, beautiful people and so friendly! The food is excellent! Local experience ❤️

The Best of the Best

By Allen P |

Palmyra, Is the Best Middle Eastern Food in the Bay Area. The Family who run it are so wonderful and everything is fresh and homemade. Everyone we have brought there have the same comment that it was the best Middle Eastern Cusine around. We are so fortunate to only live one block away!

Family owned amazing, cozy restaurant!

By Alina S |

Extremely nice family who owns the place, great food, friendly atmosphere! Great value for money. Totally recommended when visiting the painted ladies.!

Very tasty

By twowomanroadtrip |

The Greek salad $7 was huge! It had lots of feta, olives, and ripe tomatoes. The chicken wrap was very flavorful. The baklava was a nice treat too. It was less than $20 for two entrees, an appetizer, and a dessert. Big booths were easy to share. Very homemade. Delish!

Gone downhill

By Anthony T |

I must have went on a bad day. We dropped by, based on Yelp reviews, about 1:30 pm. Only 2 two tables had people finishing their food. No one else in line. We went to the cashier to order, but the man said that if we are eating there, they will come to us to take our order. Most of the tables were still dirty. The cashier took a couple phone orders, after we sat down. Then people started showing up, about 8 people. The cashier continues to take phone orders. We went to the cashier to see if we could get our order in, as we had somewhere to go, but he wouldn't get off the phone, as apparently he had an order of 40 lunches he was taking. He motioned to another man to help us, but the other man shrugged "I'm busy". All the 8 people who came in after us got their food before we could get our order in and the guy still wouldn't get off the phone, so a left.

Great food

This place is amazing. The food is fresh and authentic and the service is great too! We had rotisserie chicken and tabouli salad and Shawarma. Do not forget the baklava..its the best! Great prices. Highly reccomend

Great food and great value

By reidings |

I found this place browsing TripAdvisor for cheap eats and it had lots of good reviews so thought we'd give it a try. Glad we did! It's a family owned and operated business offering Syrian cuisine and the service was super friendly. The restaurant itself was quiet, however they were very busy with delivery orders with the Uber drivers flowing in and out almost constantly! We ordered and our food came out quickly and was delicious. I ordered the platter with babaganoush, hummus, dolma, falafel and tabouli with pita bread. Some of the best hummus I've ever tasted! My partner got the half chicken meal which was just as good. Great value for money as well - we left very satisfied.

Best mediterranean restaurant in San Francisco

By Juan G |

I had been searching for a great mediterranean restaurant since I moved to San Francisco, and my search ended when I found Palmyra. The food is amazing and the dishes are really authentic. They offer Delivery, Take-out as well and dine-in and the service is always friendly (although a bit slow, especially dine-in and take-out, but delivery is quite fast.) My all time favorite dish here is the Baba Ghanoush followed by the Rotisserie Chicken and the Moussaka. But this place is so great that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Overall highly recommended.

Great place

By ManchesterAlbion |

Really friendly local restaurant. The staff made some great suggestions and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our meal. We would especially recommend the Syrian yoghurt dish, Labni, which was entirely new to us.

Friendly, good food

By Millie J |

This middle eastern restaurant was a great find on our visit to San Francisco. The Arabic woman who runs the restaurant is the friendliest woman and her food is delicious . IT is very reasonably priced and probably the most reasonably priced place we ate at. I recommend the chicken shawarma sandwich, hummus and baklava.

Finger licking good

By Glitter D |

Try the baba ganoush and the hummus. Plus the mezza plate .... We chose to eat here simply because it was near to the place we stayed...and boy oh boy ... We couldn't get enough of it ! Also this place has great and tasty options for vegetarians as well. If you're in the area you should definitely try it even if the interior doesn't exactly look inviting. The staff is friendly and welcoming and your food is served in a jiff.

Excellent food and great service.

By Taisa A |

Excellent food, very tasty, simple but very clean and pleasant atmosphere. Excellent service, especially by the friendly Yaser who is extremely attentive and helpful.

Not so sure.....

By destinationnextstop |

We ordered on Grub hub...the lady did not want to take the order over the phone. Our order thru Grub hub came and it was the wrong order. I ordered Shwarma wrap and got shwarma plate. So that was disappointing that they could not even get an order right for delivery. The food was really nothing special- exception being the yummy garlic sauce. The salad was at least 2 days old...so so disappointing. The arabic bread was not enough for all the chicken, would have LOVED some more arabic bread and we did not even get a fork to eat our food with. I don't think I will order again with them. I might consider to rather go eat at the restaurant inside. I have had many many lebanese dishes over the course of living in Dubai for 8 years and this was really nothing special. If you are desperate for Lebanese give them a try. Maybe the other dishes are better.

Great food, great price!

By J N |

While on vacation in SF I stopped here for dinner by myself while waiting for a friend to get off work. I love Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, so this place looked very appealing to me. I stopped in, told them it was my first time eating there and asked for a recommendation. They recommended the half chicken dinner which came with pita, hummus, cucumber salad, garlic dip. It was ready in just a few minutes. The portion was large with plenty of food to satisfy a hungry guy. And it was delicious. And all for $12. And the owners were nice people too! I would return without hesitation. Based on the number of people picking up takeout orders, I'd say this is a popular place. Highly recommend!

Simply wow

By Varun S |

A small restaurant at the corner of the street. Authentic and delicious food. Very friendly family that runs it.

Great place!

By Scubaman628 |

we came for a quick meal before heading to the airport. we found all the food to be very good, chicken and beef Shawarma was good but the falafel was some of the best i have ever had. Prices were great. i recommend this restaurant and we will return.

Tasty and affordable

By jemimar797 |

Palmyra was recommended to us by some locals who we were staying with across the street. It's one of their favourite restaurants in the area and they go there frequently. The food is great, generous portions and always very fresh and tasty. We ordered the chicken and beef shawarma platters one night, and the chicken salad another night. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming, and it has a 'family-run' feel to it.

Just ok.

By George K |

We shared a lamb shawarma and a kibbi platter. The shawarma was ok; the kibbi platter was really bland. I've had a lot better. Disappointing.

Easy walk from the Metro Hotel on Divisidero

By Noreen N |

This was the perfect spot to rest, relax, and EAT! after a long day walking to the Golden Gate Bridge and back. The food was delicious (baba ganoush, chicken shawarma, lentil soup, baklava), the wine cheap ($6), and the atmosphere invitingly casual. In addition, the wifi was free. I am so glad that I had a meal here during my very short visit to San Francisco.

Delicious Fresh Food Very Friendly Staff

By WellDeservedVac... T |

Delicious Fresh Food Very Friendly Staff in a very SF neighborhood. So SF that some local regulars even came in on roller skates lol. Every time we come up to SF we need to make a stop here!

Very good Lebanese. Correct prices for San Francisco

By flofleu |

Excellent Lebanese Syrian restaurant, a rather succinct menu with all the classics, hummus, taboo, falafels, beef and marinated chicken and you find all this in wap sandwiches or on plates composed with a small salad. Prices correct for San Francisco, wap chicken shawarma is at 12.5, plate chicken at 14, plate beef at 16.5$. Everything was very fresh and very good. I would advise you.

Tasty oriental fast food

By Martin B |

I had the beef shawarma (plate) for dinner. It tasted absolutely delicious, including the humus which I normally do not like very much). The meat was perfectly cooked, i.e. the medium and large sized chunks were still reddish inside. Absolutely recommended!!! For tourists: good choice if you wanna get away from the touristy stuff. Crowd seemed almost exclusively local.

Value for money - great service

By Tom Davies |

The food is good, and less than $10 for most things on the menu. The service staff are incredibly warm and welcoming and very polite. I go regularly and the shwarma is always such a great stomach filler.

Excellent

By Totally_Trustworthy |

On recommendation from my son, ordered tabouleh, shawarma, lentil soup and sides. Had it delivered by grubhub as we didn't want to go out. Food was excellent. Delivery fast.

Excellent food at a good price

By Swissmike76 |

A good find close to our hotel. Once you enter the restaurant you feel welcome and the food is really tasty and at a bargain compare to quality.

Great place!

By smashley612 |

As soon as we walked in the owner of Palmyra rushed over with a banana for our 18 month old son. The food was very good and the service was excellent. We asked about the falafel and the next thing we know, the waiter brought us some to try. We will definitely go back when we are in San Francisco again.

Yummy!

By sharrongeg |

What an awesome lunch! I had the lamb shawarma wrap ($16) and it was outstanding! Hubby enjoyed his beef shawarma wrap ($15)-and declared it delish. Bright colorful restaurant with lots of windows. Atmosphere is friendly and casual.

Don't be turned off by the looks

By elaine A |

This place is not doing itself any favours by having confused looking servers and an almost "dirty" look about it. Get passed that and enjoy fantastic food! We went on Friday night, we called ahead and asked if we needed reservations and was told" Um yes, you could". When we got there, nobody had a reservation book or any idea about what one was! The owner of the place served us, offering the wine list as "red or white"! We had great lamb kebabs, a Babba ganoush plate, and felafel. The food was great but even better was the people watching. It is a very busy place, part of the neighbourhood and well worth a visit!

Lunch at Palmyra

Very good food and friendly atmosphere

It was a little tricky to find our way to this restaurant, but with a good smartphone app we finally managed to get here. Had a great dinner enjoyed by the whole family.

Nice place

Good food, good wine, perfect location. We had a very pleasant time at Palmyra. Like the middle-eastern cuisine very much. And he it is really good.

Great syrian and arabic food!

It was a great experience. People are very friendly, the food is super delicious and for reasonable price. Strongly recommended!

Come home to Palmyra

By DRBVT |

It's like eating at Grandma's. The food is delicious, the pita keeps coming, the owner is gracious and warm and his wife prepares everything, every day. 5 of us shared 3 apps (spinach pie, baba ganoush and hummus) 4 entrees (lamb kabob plate, chicken shwarma plate, beef Palmyra plate and felafel plate), w dessert, beer and more flafel generously "on the house" for $78. We had left-overs and 5 very happy people. Simple bus ride (#71) from Market and Powell right to the door at Haight & Pierce. If you're in town visiting, go here.

Unexpected Great Find

By James M |

My friend scheduled a lunch at Palmyra. It's a small place on Haight in the Lower Haight. The folks who run it are soft spoken and extremely kind. When we asked for tea, the server described their traditional Arab-style tea with cardamom exactly as it turned out to be: fragrant and strong. The man couldn't have been nicer to us as we figured out what to eat, and the food was really, really good. I had kibbi which, in this case, were egg-shaped cases of grain containing meat and pines nuts. They were delicious (as was the hummus and the falafel which they just gave us to try on them). As we left, I saw an older woman in traditional clothing in the back of the restaurant forming the kibbi I had just eaten. She was doing it free hand (no mold) in her hand, and yet they were all perfect!

First Date, Re-Dux

By Aram S |

My fiancee, Jill, and I met 8 days before I moved to Beijing 1.5 years ago. We had our first date at Palmyra the day after we met. We had a wonderful time and loved the food and the owner. I left and then she came over 2 months later. We have just returned home, after the 1.5 years in Beijing, and thought we'd go to Palmrya to relive our first date again. It was fantastic. We told the owner our story and he was so happy and kind. He told us, "God bless you and your happiness." The food was, just as we remembered, delicious. If anything, it is even better than we remembered since the food in Beijing was so bland and boring compared to Palmyra. We had gone to Turkey and Greece on our trips and Palmyra's food was as good as anything we had there. It is also incredibly affordable and filling. For lunch, we were able to share one mezze platter and were stuffed! We feel like this restaurant is the start of our relationship and life together and love the attitude, the food and the ambiance. I recommend it highly!

Delicious catering

By AgentMowgli |

After years of coming here for meals, I recently catered a meal from Palmyra for 10 people, and people are still talking about how delicious the kebabs, prawns, falafel, rice and hummus were. The service was great, and I'd highly recommend the place. Having halal food is an added bonus!

Loved the food and the environment 😍

By Hatti |

This was my first Mediterranean food experience, and it was awesome!!!! Glad we stopped! Staff was really helpful and nice!

Best value and taste in the neighborhood

By intothewoodz |

The food here is always delicious. It has some of the best value around, and so their take out is very popular. Love it!

Run, Don't Walk, If You Like Middle Eastern Food

By Frank A |

My wife and I stumbled up on this place after a really crappy ride from Big Bus Hop-On, Hop-Off Tours (my review of them will be up shortly. We are both BIG fans of Mediterranean food, and given the great Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try. It's not an ostentatious place, so it would be easy to walk right by. For the love of all that's holy, DON'T DO THAT. We were greeted at the counter by a delightful, friendly member of the family that runs the place (and that was pretty cool, too -- it was clear it was a family-run restaurant that loves what they do). After mentioning my dairy allergy (yeah, I gotta be careful -- and I hate having to mention it), I was informed that their entire food menu was dairy free EXCEPT the spinach pie (my personal favorite Mediterranean food, of course, that I can no longer have). But in the end, it mattered NOT in the least. My wife had the mezze, a selection of appetizers including hummus, taboulah, baba ghanoush, dolma, falafel, and served with pita. I am also a BIG fan of the dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and these reminded me of the first time I had them in Jerusalem -- that's how authentic they are. All she kept saying was "Wow." The pita came out fresh and warm, the hummus was amazing......there was not a thing on her plate that wasn't fresh and of the highest quality. Clearly, there's a lot of love that goes into preparing each dish. The ONLY problem is that their portions are so generous that my wife couldn't quite finish it all -- but that is NOT a reflection on the food. I had the kibbi platter (four shells of mashed cracked wheat stuffed with ground beef, sautéed onions, and pine nuts. Served with a side of tahini sauce, hummus, cucumber salad, pita, garlic). From the first bite, I was in heaven. The beef was perfectly seasoned, the hummus was unbelievable and the tahini sauce........there's no describing it. You just have to try it for yourself. Like my wife, all I could do is marvel and say, "Wow." To finish off the meal, my wife had the baklava, and I had the namora, a dairy-free almond cake. Again, wow doesn't even begin to describe it. This place is simply amazing -- it was the best find we had in our time in SF. I agree with Irv S. -- run, don't walk, to Palmyra. They will make you feel like family and will serve you the best Mediterranean food you've ever had.

Yummy Arabic Food

By Johnny S |

We had very tasty Arabic food for very reasonable prices. The lamb schawerma wrap was especially good.

Not so great

By Marla B |

Popped in yesterday, after a very long walk. So pleased to see they finally had the windows professionally washed. They were such a turn off "for me". The folks are really nice. Prices are quite reasonable. I had the Falafel Wrap. It was considerably smaller than it was the last time I had one. Appreciated the fact they cut it in half. It was o.k., but only barely warm. Not hot food is my biggest pet peeve. I added fries $1.50 to the wrap and let's just say it wasn't brimming over. In fact, I was hard pressed to find "any" inside the wrap. It wasn't busy, there was no one in the restaurant, it was about 5:00 PM. May be better to go earlier in the day, maybe near lunch time, then the food might "actually be hot".

Great Middle Eastern Restaurant

By Debby S |

On a visit to San Francisco my son took me to this restaurant. I love Middle Eastern food & was excited by the menu. The owner was so nice & the food we had was delicious & fresh. Nothing fancy, just really good food. Very good value. Highly recommend.

Very good Syrian restaurant

By David M |

We went to Palmyra for a stop during a bike tour. We were instantly welcomed by the chef of restaurant, who was really sympathetic. Besides that, the food was awesome and quiet cheap.

Nice & unformal place, pretty good food

By Falghisi |

I’ve followed TA ranking to choose this place. Once there, i was a bit reluctant, looking at this restaurant/take away from outside. Once seated, we started to appreciate natural kindness and emphaty of Yasser, who drove us among menu choice. Ultimately, everything was good, really good. And quite healthy, i would say, plenty of veggjes after a week eating fried stuff. Service was fast, and price really worth. Last cherry-upon-cake (at least for us): they serve water without ice. If you want to get there, rely on Yasser’s advice. Ultimately, a pretty good experience
