Reviews

This was our first “San Antonio” Mexican meal, and it was terribly disappointing.

By shayfree |

I rarely write a negative review, but this is an exception. Our food was not especially good — my husband didn’t even finish his fish tacos. The margueritas were SMALL (think juice glass) yet the cost of normal size. The queso wasn’t especially tasty, although the chips were super. My enchilada was average. All in all, it was very disappointing. Later, we found much better Mexican food, as is expected in San Antonio.

Don't Order Take-Out

By truetexangurl |

The food is not as good as it used to be, but dining at the restaurant is a far better choice over take-out. Would never make that mistake again. The salsa has gotten so watery, the tortillas are stale and some of the food is WAY too salty.

Consistently Satisfying

By CoolHandLucasJackson |

Consistently very good. Fajitas are excellent, service generally strong and prices are reasonable. The first test for a TexMex restaurant is the salsa— it’s excellent. I’ve eaten here 15 years with less than a handful of disappointments. Perhaps the most consistently good experience I’ve had.

Excellent Mexican food

By KSO11 |

The cheese enchiladas were delicious. Chips and salsa great and you couldn't have gotten better service in a 5 star restaurant. Heaping portions and attentive waiter helped make dining out very enjoyable.

Always quick and easy...

By Heather T |

I love the beef fajitas here... my husband loves the poblano cream sauce they put on chicken enchiladas. We both love the grilled squash that you can upgrade to instead of rice and beans. The staff is always helpful and we stop in on the way home from work often...

Chicken Vegetable Soup Yum

By beenthereboerne |

We eat here as often as we can and I always enjoy the chicken vegetable soup. It tastes like home made soup your mama used to make. My husband always loves his beef enchiladas. Have dined here for many years now and they are just as good now as ever.

Decent Mexican food

By jann618 |

A bit different than Tex-Mex and not just nachos. Try it, I think you'll like it. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Good food and service

By PNG81 |

Had a really good dinner, food was served hot and fresh. Service matched the food as we had everything we needed. Had many menu choices and we all were happy with what we picked.

Always Good

By HowdyDoody66 |

took friends who were visiting to eat there as I knew it would be liked. as always, everything was good and on point. it is a place to go where you get what you expect and it is always well managed, even when busy.

Always Great

By beenthereboerne |

Papa Nachos is our favorite Mexican restaurant because it consistently has great food. The service is very prompt and attentive no matter how busy they are.

Was Dog Friendly but Not Now

By D David |

Very quality food and service, and was our favorite patio to bring our dog. Just stopped in for dinner with our paws friend and we were told “not welcome”. Outdoor pet friendly restaurants are important to us, but Papa Nachos has changed their policy. They used the “Health Department” blame game but it’s not true. San Antonio patios are pet friendly by local and state statute: TX SB 476 includes certain guidelines: Only restaurants where food is not prepared on the patio can file for this permit. Canines are welcome only at patios, and only if they do not have to enter through a restaurant interior in order to access the outside area. Lastly, dogs must also remain leashed the entire time they're on the restaurant's premises. Wake up Papa Nachos and get with the times!

Suitable for a big family, clean

By dkarcherbrady |

The food is average, unless you order, for example, cerviche, at a high price and expect a non average taste. The facility and the personnel however are above average and the place appears to be clean although I have not viewed the kitchen. There is space for a family or group of 8 or 10 and the service is good. Stick with the basic Tex Mex fare, enjoy your family,

30 minutes, no service, manager blamed us

By Irish M |

We were sat down and they brought us drinks but then forgot about us. My 2 year old was starting to cry she was hungry and seeing everone else around our table with food. Server never came and ask if we where ready to order. Finaly after 30 minutes we got up and left. I called the manager and he informed me the server said she would come and check on us and we would say we where not ready yet. Yes we just let our child cry and scream because she is hungry and not put in an order for her while we decide... basically called us bad parents. Never going back, ended up going to BJs at the rim and got immediate, friendly and fast service.

Fajitas!!!!

By truetexangurl |

This place has the best fajitas, hands down, in San Antonio and possibly the entire state. Actually, everything is good including the best cheese enchiladas in all of Texas. The crispy chicken tacos are one of my favorites, but they are hit or miss. At times, they have a very scant amount of filling and the chicken can be a tad tough. When they are good, they are delicious. Papa Nacho's is an incredible bargain and worth every penny!

Great neighborhood Tex Mex place

By RedWhiteandGrew |

And surprisingly good food for an eatery located in a strip mall with a grocery store. Best bets: the verde chicken enchiladas for adults and, surprisingly, the chicken tenders for kids which are a cut above any similar menu item elsewhere. Resto fills up fast on weekends and can be noisy. Plan accordingly.

Our favorite texmex restaurant in San Antonio

By jeremyf708 |

My wife and I have adored Papa Nacho's for years. Their chips and salsa is borderline addictive. Enchiladas (ESP the chipotle enchiladas!), fajitas, tacos--we've had it all and it's all *delicious*. Pleasant atmosphere--not fancy, but more upscale than Las Palapas. The service is solid--not particularly outstanding but nothing to complain about. But the food is consistently superb. I always know that I'm going to have a delicious, enjoyable meal when we go here. And I LOVE the sopapillas!! We've been to a lot of texmex places in San Antonio and by far, this is our favorite.

Great food and service

By Doug H |

This great Mexican food and excellent service! Homemade tortillas and mixed fajitas are the way to go but they do have a very reasonably priced lunch menu as well. Perfect spot for any sized group.

No Longer A Favorite

By truetexangurl |

The prices at the Leon Springs location have increased since opening a second location and the increases are not reflected on the menu. The food has always been good, but we had our first dish that we did not like. The beef chile relleno. Gross. We were overcharged more than ten dollars over the prices stated on the menu. Super disappointing.

A Solid "C"

By WilsyPV |

Stopped in after a visit to Rebecca Creek Distillery for dinner, around 5. Lots of parking (in an H.E.B. center) and lots of tables. This establishment is a favorite of the friends we are visiting in the area so we wanted to check it out. We found the restaurant to be clean, the service good but the food only average. Having lived in the Texas Hill Country in the past, we're used to Tex-Mex with a little more zip and energy...the offerings here are OK, but definitely not memorable.

Always great service and food.

By DreamGuardian007 |

Family owned and operated. Papa Nacho's is our favorite Mexican food restaurant. Lunch menu available until 4PM on the weekends!

Chicken Poblano was great!

By TxAuctioneer |

We had lunch today wee and the Chicken Poblano was really good! Definitely getting that again! Good service too.

Horrible on many levels

By pnkgirl27 |

We pulled up to the restaurant and questioned if it was even open. The outdoor furniture was all grouped together, dirty and put away. One door had a sign in it with an arrow so we went to the side entrance. There were 3 tables of people dining at noon on a Saturday so that should had been our first clue that there were issues lurking ahead. Our waiter, Brandon, appeared to be very well trained and overall a very nice person. Unfortunately, he did not correctly take my order of guacamole nachos. It was not prepared as I had ordered when I requested no cheese due to dietary restrictions. My dining companion sat with his meal untouched waiting for mine to be remade. It did come out but had so few chips that it was disappointing. My companion's meal was also not prepared as the menu had stated in regard to it arriving with only half the burrito being covered in chili sauce and the other half with cheese sauce. The waiter did apologize for the discrepancy but it really wasn't that big of a deal. His Texas sized burrito was not so "Texas size" though, but the price reflected what the meal size should cost for a normal sized average burrito. Perhaps a new name could be given to this menu item so that confusion is not placed upon dining guests? We could had looked past all that but the last straw that made us not enjoy our meal was the seating issue half way through our meal. There were only three tables of people in a huge open restaurant and the manager (?) came right up to the side of me and started to push tables together to accommodate a family with a bunch of kids. They sat down and the kids started running around. I went to have a nice meal with another adult, not dine at some children's play area. I don't blame the family, I BLAME the manager who decided that our meal should be ruined by placing them not even two feet away from me when there was 3,000 sf of the restaurant open to be sat at! We gave the waiter cash AND WALKED OUT without finishing our meals! The food was medico and the employees/manager standing and watching us dine was a bit uncomfortable. Every bite I took, I had an audience! This was NOT a good experience and can honestly say that I would not suggest this place to anyone. Our dining experience could had been a fluke but the lack of customers during prime weekend dining hours shows that we aren't the only ones that were unhappy with our experience and won't be repeat customers.

Can't Touch This!

By OmniEpicurean |

Actually you can, you should and you do when you latch on to the light and crunchy chips, the crispy tacos, the puffy tacos and the flautas . . .just some of the things you gotta eat with your fingers. No need to feel bashful or improper about grabbing these delectables with your hands. This kind of food just demands it. Sure you are going to get a little messy, but the taste of the food will have you forgetting all about that. I had a friend who used to roll his enchiladas in a taco. Beat Taco Bell to the idea, but I always thought that sounded a little weird. Just had to eat my words on that one. No. I didn't do the enchilada thing, but after several bites of my stuffed puffy beef taco, I found myself with the bottom falling out of the now juicy fried corn tortilla. Hate it when that happens! So I grabbed one of the light fluffy flour tortillas that were in the tortilla warmer and, Yep . . . planted the puffy right in the middle of that tortilla. Not only did I fix the taco "bomb bay door" from losing any more ingredients, I also rather liked the taste as well. We continue our patronage here as the food is served hot (too hot according to one diner but she's a wimp), fresh and tasty. Those are three "amigos" that you can always count on to be here.

Remarkably Good Value

By rOncAkiNca36 |

We have eaten here on many occasions. Our recent visit proved that Papa Nacho's remains true to its objective of offering consistently tasty food, served by responsive and courteous waiters and waitresses in a comfortable, attractive setting. In the years we've been coming here, we have not had a bad experience. The dishes --- from the very simple dishes like tacos to the more elaborate dishes such as the fish special of the day or beef/chicken fajitas -- are indescribably delicious! They earn our vote for Best in Class!

Consistent Quality

By LemonLover |

We live in the neighborhood and have been visiting Papa Nacho's for many years. It may not be so called real authentic Mexican food, but it is good, flavorful without being overdone or too salty. It is straightforward Tex Mex and that is what we expect and get. Wait staff is also funny, mix of old and young, all friendly and genuine, they seem to enjoy working there which is good for any dining out experience. Noise level is just right, enough chatter and clatter without being deafening, can still have a conversation. I also hosted a foreign delegation there for lunch, only had 45 minutes to feed them and get back on schedule, called ahead for group fajitas. The delegation loved the food, each one declared as awesome, took pictures etc...

Great service and awesome beef fajitas!

By Randall M |

I ordered the beef fajitas, which were awesome and my wife really liked the fish tacos. If you are into soup try the jalapeno soup.... But be warned it's a but spicy. The service was excellent as well.

Surprisingly good!

By SusanD55 |

This is an easy place to miss and looks more like a cheesy chain restaurant but don't be fooled. The food is great and the service is impeccable. A handy and really good place to eat.

Nastiest Food In San Antonio Area

By TW |

One word...disgusting! I have never had cheese enchiladas filled with plain AMERICAN cheese until this evening. I couldn't even choke them down. I would have ordered something else had my waiter been available and/or asked how my food was. TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Furthermore, the margaritas sucked. Good margaritas have just the right balance of sweetness. These were...bitter. Terrible. Not to mention, $8.50 a piece. This will be my first and last visit.

Not worth a stop

By FairOaks1 |

Recently dined here. The service was non existent and wait staff was friendly but clueless. Wrong food brought out. The right food tasted terrible. With a multitude of choices in the area for mexican food this is one that I would avoid

Something Different in Mexican Food

By NormaMorris |

Located on the feeder road in Leon Springs, just north of San Antonio, TX, on IH-10 is a plethora of delectable dining establishments, one of which is Papa Nacho's Cantina. We enjoyed perusing the menu of interesting Mexican dishes you won't find at other Mexican food eateries. It was hard to choose between a delectable pan grilled white fish in a sauce of artichoke hearts, lemon and capers, accompanied with white Spanish rice and grilled veggie; or their wonderful Papa Nacho salad with romaine lettuce, white cheese chunks, walnuts, grilled chicken breast drizzled with a light lemon cilantro dressing. One of our group decided upon the bacon-wrapped and grilled shrimp with sides of Mexican rice and boracho beans. Staff is friendly, atmosphere casual, and facility spotlessly clean! It can get a little noisy with the sounds of laughter and visiting, so you might consider not arriving during peak dining hours if you want a quieter dining experience. We enjoyed our dining experience and will most definitely return.

Best Enchiladas in San Antonio

By Chuck R |

Papa Nachos has be best cheese enchiladas in the city. Their secret is an amazing meat sauce that is generously heaped on the plate. The food ways comes out piping hot so the cheese is well melted and soft. The taste is complex and mouth watering. Even our teenage son, who is a finicky eater, loves to go here and eat the enchiladas. Whenever we have a craving for enchiladas, we head to Papa Nachos.

Always Consistant - Good

By Gatorday1 |

Very good Tex Mex. Great encheletas w/ super chili sauce. Good cold Mexican beer. Watch the fish dishes. Can be overly salty, The tamiqueno steak plate is awesome. The super nachos are really loaded. These guys also own Scuzzi Italian and Bourbon Street both are very good also. Sorry about my spelllng on the Spanish.

I Need Mexican food

By Hannah W |

Excellent!dark roasted hot sauce ( you must request)is the best. The papas nachos plate(no its not nachos!) was a great size.Cheese enchilada, crispy taco and of course beans and rice were very good. If I lived here I would come back and eat them again!

We keep going back, it's that good

By milburn289 |

We really like this place. We always get the chicken fajitas for two. Tons of food and excellent quality. Service has always been excellent. When full it is a little loud.

Delicious food & drink!

By Johanne H |

Delicious quality food. I'm very picky and critical and this place delivers! My husband had the fajitas- the beef was so tender and tasty! The borracho beans were good and the rice outstanding. I had the bacon wrapped grilled shrimp, perfectly done. We will be back- the menu was full of options that differ from the usual Mexican restaurants in town, and they all sound delicious! The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, the real beauty is on the plate :) I almost forgot to mention that the margaritas were top notch too!

Our go to Friday night.

By LoveOahu09 |

The service is prompt, and the food is always delicious. The margaritas are always consistent and so perfect!! We love this place.

Good food, great service.

By Phil R |

First of all this restaurant is not in San Antonio, but is in Leon Springs about 10 miles north of S.A. The food is good, a bit overpriced, the service was great and the atmosphere is comfortable. I would recommend Las Platypus which is next door.

Best Fajitas in Town

By bobemac |

This is one of our favorite Tex/Mex food places in town. They serve a huge hot and steamy iron skillet filled with marinated chicken breast, red and green peppers, and sweet onions. This also comes with an order of borracho beans that are really good, some tasty rice, pico, and guacamole, lettuce, along with flour and corn tortillas. Their small chili con queso is a large bowl of delicious, thick and spicy melted cheese with onions and peppers. At $4.99 this is the best queso deal in town. The chicken fajita plate is only $8.99 and feeds two. There are plenty of good professional servers here. Nobody has to wait very long.

Disrespectful Service

By Eric H |

I have never been so turned off by an experience at a restaurant in my entire life. It absolutely ruined our Father’s Day. It all started when one of their servers spilled a large amount of iced tea onto the table when refilling my glass. Not only did he not apologize, he didn’t even acknowledge what he had done. He simply walked to the next table and ignored the situation. I called him over as he walked away from the other table and asked him to wipe off the table. He rolled his eyes and give me a look as if I was putting him out, and said he needed to a towel. I followed him and asked to speak to his manager. As I was speaking to the manager, the waiter continued to mouth off acting as he had done nothing wrong. The manager did nothing and I returned to my table. A few minutes later a patron of the restaurant approached our table and verbally assaulted me using extreme profanity in front of my two young children, taking the side of the waiter and acting as if I was out of line. Finally, the general manager came to the table and asked what we wanted to do. We told him we were going to leave. We left, never to return. I guess gone are the days where the customer is right and waiters can treat and talk to customers any way they please without any repercussions.

Best Enchiladas

By Laveta M |

We are regulars at the restaurant at I10 across from the Dominion. Huge variety of enchiladas--try the chicken chipotle. Best kids quesadilla per my son. Margaritas are just ok--so get the blue one--it is better.

A nice place to eat!

By P1520TPandrewk |

This place does have the best chips and salsa! The chicken soup is different from other locations! I wish that they made Caldo! I have to travel far across town to find it! This is a nice place to eat!

I’m ready

By lalalala41 |

After reading the reviews I decided to give this place a try . It’s extremely clean !! Immaculate. I went in around 4 . There was only one other table there . My host was very kind as well as my waiter . I ordered nachos . Beef nachos to be exact . My order came out quickly . My nachos were good & the portion size was a great deal to me . I ordered the small. Got 8 nachos with all fixings . Give this place a try

Best Tex/Mex in San Antonio

By Miamimachine |

Consistently great food and service. Very willing to custom prepare any dish. If you don't want marinated chicken the chef will cut and season a fresh chicken breast to your taste

Always great food and service

By Crystal N |

I've been coming here for the past few years and I have never had a bad experience. The service is always great, you never run out of drinks or chips while you are there and the staff are very friendly. The food is so, so good, I highly recommend the queso and the chicken fajita tacos. If you are wanting fresh, and tasty Mexican food with friendly service I'd highly recommend Papa Nacho's Cantina!

If I'm in the area, this is where I eat

By FZG |

Papa Nacho's is waaaaay out IH-10 on the way to Boerne. If I happen to be in that area, that's where I go. The ambience and service are excellent, the prices are right, and the food is delicious. My son goes nuts over the enchiladas verdes. I pick whatever suits my fancy. Its always good. Great salsas, too.

Beware the hidden charges

By TripleKG |

We went with 2 other couples and the added the tip on automatically because there were 6 of us. Then there was a 3% charge for using our credit card. No other restaurants in the area do this. More annoying than anything else - the server would probably have gotten a better tip if the restaurant hadn’t automatically tacked it on. Food was fine, but there are also a million Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, and easy to find another that is just as good without the hidden charges.

Return Visit and great service

By L H |

This restaurant is located in the far side of the HEB parking lot by the gas pump area. So it is easy to find and were able to park in front. It h ad been a while since we visited here so stopped in for dinner on a Sunday evening. We were seated promptly and it was busy but not full and the noise level was not bad at all. They had lots of waiters and we were waited on very quickly by two different waiters at first for drinks. Chloe was our server and she was very attentive filling our ice tea ($2.99) and salsa, which had a "bite" at the end, without even having to ask. The chips were warm and crisp. We ordered the small shrimp nachos (appetizer) for one meal ($9.99) and it was delicious and a hearty serving of about a dozen individual nachos topped with beans, grilled shrimp, loads of cheese and jalapenos with a center serving of avocado, lettuce and tomatoes. Also ordered was the Cobb Salad which again was a hearty serving and a nice variety of ingredients ($13.99) and very tasty. A very nice experience and great food choices. They also have a full bar with seating where you can enjoy a drink and appetizers or a meal.

Turned out well for large group

By L H |

We wanted a place close by to have an anniversary celebration for a group of 14 and called about advance reservations. When we called several days in advance they were a bit curt in saying that they do not take reservations and stressed that they are busy on Sundays. But on a Sunday early afternoon we called on our way to ask if they could seat this size group and the time frame. They said they could seat us once we arrived, which was only five or ten minutes or so and by the time we all got into the restaurant the table was set with drinks, chips and salsa after the first four arrived. The place is a good size, although it looks small from the outside. It is located in a shopping center with an HEB and tucked away behind the gas pump area. Our waitress was Emily and she was very nice, super efficient and tended to all our requests and prompt in replenishing the chips etc. Thanks! The chips were not the best, as they were very bland but once we added salt and salsa they worked out fine. They do offer a lunch menu even on Sundays but have a large regular menu as well with a good variety to please everyone’s palette. The lunch menu was only a few dollars cheaper than some of the regular menu but the portions were big on both menus. Between all of us we ordered Papa’s lunch, Chimichangas, Shrimp Enchilada Plate, Jalepeno Chicken Enchiladas, Seafood Enchiladas, Enchiladas Verdes and Chicken Monterrey plus two kid’s meals (grilled cheese w/fries and chicken tenders w/fries). Everyone cleared their plates and the few who didn’t took it home for later. The food was well presented and very tasty. The kid’s plates had large portions and the fries were shoestring style. They weren’t as crispy as they looked but the kid’s didn’t seem to mind. They also have a bar so you can order wine, margaritas and mixed drinks. I had a glass of house chardonnay $6 and it was a decent pour. I was surprised though that they charged $1.59 for a ramekin of ranch for the tenders. They also charge a nominal fee to substitute puffy tacos and but they do have a la carte items. We were in and out in just over an hour even with this many people. Too bad they don't take reservations BUT glad it worked out for our group. We were very happy with the experience and only two of us had been here before so we were happy the rest of the group was pleased.

By llharp |

We have been eating at Papa Nachos on IH-10 for quite a while actually but, decided it was time to review them. The food is very good and plenty of it. The price is right and the severs are pleasant and attentive. If the restaurant is jam packed are there is a party going on in the back...........you will have a very hard time talking to the folks at your table. There is no sound dampening in the ceiling, It bounces right back at you. This is the only minor complaint I have but, it is still our place to go for Mexican food.

Perfect for family and large parties

By Emily B |

The ambiance, service and food was incredible! We had a large group and they handled us very well!! We will definitely be back!

Great Mexican Food lunch spot

By Jennifer V |

The girls at work enjoy heading over for lunch. The fijitas are our favorite dish. Service is great, food is always perfect, and the lunch service is quick for the quality of food.

Best Tex-Mex in SA

By truetexangurl |

This is our go to for fresh Mexican food every month. Everything is delicious, but our favorites are the chicken and beef fajitas and the cheese enchiladas. The chicken tacos are also a favorite as are the guacamole and fresh salsa.

Papa's Is A Go To

By OmniEpicurean |

Mexican food here is good. But that is not the reason to come. They serve a wonderful version of grilled fish diablo. Opt out of the tasteless tilapia craze and ask for redfish or snapper. The sauce served over the fish is rich, but not too spicy as the name would imply. Enchiladas, flautas etc. are on par with most folk's idea of their go-to place when they get the tex-mex craving.

Always Great Food and Service

By DreamGuardian007 |

We have been dining at Papa Nachos for years. Consistently good food, service and value. Lunch menu available until 4 pm, even on weekends.

Great Food

By Daydream93065 |

The margaritas are great, the chips and salsa always fresh, and the food is delicious. Have been going to Papa Nacho's over a year and it is consistenatly great. The carne asada is excellent as is the grilled fish. The crispy tacos are also good and you should try the puffy tacos as well. The only drawback is that they close too early (usually 9:00 pm) so make sure you get there before 8:30 to enjoy this great restaurant.

Thank You staff at Papa Nachos

By travelcrazyTexas |

I have to extend a sincere thanks to the staff at Papa Nachos. We dined there last night and, somehow I left my handbag. I discovered it missing this morning and called immediately. They had my handbag with everything in it. The manager said either the waiter or busboy turned it in. It is wonderful to know that there are such nice people out there. And as usual, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal!

They are back! Great food and great value

By John B |

My wife and I stopped going a year ago due to a decline in the food. We tried them again over the holidays and the food and value are great.

Way too much chili powder

By danidb518 |

The very thin chips were pretty good and the salsa was a good flavor. I had the lunch special- cheese enchiladas and substituted a chalupa instead of a taco. Store bought chalupa shell. I could barely eat the enchiladas as all I could taste was chili powder- overpowering. You can see how dark the enchiladas are in the pic I took. Didn’t care for the beans nor rice. The jalapeño chicken enchiladas was pretty good, a very small amount of cream sauce over dried chicken enchiladas.

Always excellent!

By Andrea R |

Whenever I am craving Tex Mex, the first place I want to go is Papa Nachos! It is located in a strip shopping area in a setting that’s nothing special. But the food and service are always top notch! They have no problem serving large parties and the staff will make sure everything is just right. My husband usually orders enchiladas and I get their grilled chicken dishes. They have a wide variety of sauces to keep mixing it up. There’s also a nice little bar area and a full bar. We usually order margaritas when we go and there is a good selection of tequilas and ingredients. With all the Tex mex places around this area, this one consistently provides delicious food and drinks.

Excelled on all points!

By Travelingmelinda |

I don't know where those giving poor reviews are, but it was clearly not this same restaurant that I experienced. Initially I was a little misput when friends chose this restaurant that looked from the outside like a very fast-food place. I was so wrong. I found the restaurant to be pleasantly lit and appointed. We were there for lunch, and I found the lunch menu to be full, interesting and reasonable. Quantities were large. I had Jalapeño enchiladas which had exactly the right heat and were filled with tender, moist, white-meat chicken. The whole beans were delicious. Everyone else was equally pleased with their selections. I think an entire visit to a Mexican restaurant can pretty much be judged by the chips and salsa. The salsa was fresh and tasty but the chips were the real winner: light and crisp and good. I do prefer individual salsa servings vs a table serving. Our server, Daniel C, couldn't have done better. He was friendly, timely, not rushed when asked menu questions, etc. I don't live in this area, but I hope to come again.

Must return for a full meal.

By Steve S |

Excellent micheladas! Huge portion of very tasty queso flameado. Just drinks & apps on this visit. Will return shortly for a meal.

Super Value!

By ron1953 |

The food, service and prices are excellent. We always take our out of town guests there for Mexican food, as well as our family gatherings. The Chipotle Enchlada's are the best!

Tex-Mex Lives Here

By OmniEpicurean |

Another lunch to brag about in a continuing series of good meals here. Nothing but m-m-m-m-s and y-u-m-m-m-s were heard as the queso and chips, cheese stuffed chile relleno, beef and cheese enchiladas and enchiladas chipotles were consumed with minimal interruptions from the attentive waitress. It's funny, but I used to think of restaurants that were situated inside a hotel or were part of a shopping center or strip mall were products of their environment. That is to say, one probably wouldn't exist without the other. And I also equated this symbiotic relationship as an indicator of lower food quality establishments. I am happy to say that I am having to change my perspective on that over the past decade as I have had some very good meals in each. PNC falls in the shopping center category, but the big stand-alone restaurants have nothing on it for convenience, quality, taste and service. Come as you may. Come as you are. The welcome mat stays out and a sign that should be hung over the door says, "(Great) Tex-Mex lives here."

Hot Tamale!

By truetexangurl |

The best, most affordable mexican food, hands down. Our family eats there at least once a month. A MUST try!

Great food

By holleywood34 |

We love eating here. Every time we come to San Antonio we come here to eat the puffy tacos. Even the chicken strips from the kids menu are great

Not a fan... and I've tried to be.

By Debra W |

This restaurant is in our neighborhood and we decided to try a second time to see if maybe our first visit was just an anomaly. Nope. Overpriced, not particularly great service, and just not tasty. Las Palomas is much better AND much easier on the wallet. The owners should stick with their cajun restaurant business and 86 this restaurant.

A great dinner with family

By John W |

Everybody in our group was happy with quality and quantity of food we selected from the menu. Service was prompt. We definitely will eat here again.

Best enchiladas

By J78007 |

The food is always good and consistent! I highly recommend it! The staff is very friendly. The restaurant is always clean

Hidden surprise!

I have driven by this restaurant for several years. Thinking it was a small wannabe mexican restaurant with a specific menu. Wow! Was I surprised! The place is spaciuos, beatifully decorated, full bar and the food was delicious! I ordered the puffy tacos. They were huge! I could only finish one of the two. The borracho beans were awesome! The tortillas fresh and hot. The green enchiladas and crispy taco plates wete delicious as well. With the reasonable pricing and lunch specials, I will go back again!

Jalapeño Chicken Enchaladas

By nlamoureux |

Overall good Mexican food in North San Antonio. Good fajitas, enchiladas, charro beans, salsa. Good service and great location. Must try!

Disappointed

By nellibelle |

Restaurant has been highly recommended; however, I was disappointed in the food. Especially disappointed in the margarita. It had a bitter taste and the beer my friend ordered was warm. We will not return.

Hidden gem

By sofibso |

We've been here several times and the food was perfect every time! One of the waiters doesn't smile (like ever)but is always the most attentive. Prices aren't bad. I would recommend the chicken milanesa but their cheese enchiladas are also awesome.

Papa Nachos

By Maggie W |

Good food and great service. My tea glass was never empty and our waiter was polite and efficient. Try the Chipotle enchiladas...very good.

Been twice now and both times the service was spot on

By mkn7 |

Our first was a dinner and the waiter almost beat us to the table. He was there before we were seated asking if we would like a drink and carrying ice water before we asked. Food was best Mexican food I've had in some time - and we eat it a lot. Second visit was last week and it was the same story but for lunch. The portions are too large for us to eat so we take home the leftovers for a second meal.

Always a favorite

By Tymbo |

We have been coming back to Papa Nacho's for years and for good reason. The wait staff is always friendly and the food they serve is always very good. The wife loves their chili rellenos and my favorite is the spinach enchiladas. However, what keeps us always coming back are the nacho chips and salsa. Years ago they started putting a spoon along with the salsa dish, not to stir it, but for the wife eating the salsa straight from the bowl. The chips are really thin, the way we like them, so if you are a thick chip kind of person, these may make a convert out of you. No matter what we have had on the menu, we have never been disappointed. Enjoy!

Always great experience

We love this restaurant after discovering this gem a few years ago just West of La Cantera. There are lots of great dishes but we LOVE the Shrimp Chili Relleno.

Good Choice for Mexican Food

By DR_DAN2010 |

Papa Nachos is one of those restaurants that you can drive by a hundred times and just not catch your attention. But if you pay attention, it always seems to have a steady crowd. The exterior is more like a strip mall restaurant, but the food inside is consistently good. Freshly prepared, entrees which could easily be split between two people, offered a reasonable price. Recommend that you put it on your list when you are ready to try somewhere different.

CHIPOTLE BEEF ENCHILADA

By lavagirl09 |

Noisy, busy, but the food is generally good. I brought home my left-over Chipotle Enchilada and was surprised to see chunks of potato mixed in with my little wad of ground beef. Hmmmm........I double checked the menu and did not see any mention of potato deceptively mixed in with the hamburger. What a scam PN! If the Chipotle Enchilada has potato, then tell ME. Do not deceive me. You mentioned we had a choice of hamburger or chicken---you did not mention the inclusion or choice of potato. In the darkness of the restaurant, I am sure most people do not see the potato, but I easily spotted the chunks of potato once home in brighter lights. This seems very sleazy---I expect the dish I am served to be the same as the dish that is described in the menu. Transparency? Now I am worried about the other non-disclosed items.BTW, portions were small, chipotle sauce was insipid--no flavor. PN was very disappointing!

Good Since Day One

By bobemac |

We have dined at Papa Nacho's since they opened, nearly ten years. The food and service has always been top notch. We enjoy the Papa's special for lunch. A cheese enchilada, crispy beef taco, rice and boracho beans. Either flour or corn tortillas are served. The chicken fajitas are really tasty. They are marinated prior to grilling and come with Pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. The salsa is fresh, but not too hot. You can order regular tostados, or the thicker nacho chips. A top Mexican food emporium in San Antonio is nothing to be sneezed at.

New to the area

By Nancy0617 |

Just driving around looking for a place to eat. Down here with my friend who is moving here. My friend had the fajitas and were very good. I had the flauta and ate all of it. Both entrees were good. The chips were very good. The salsa was a little spicy which I like.

Where's the flavor?

By socalgalx4 |

We noticed that this restaurant had recently opened, and finally decided to have dinner. By far, the online reviews were 4 stars, with a single 1 star. My husband ordered Guacaomole Nachos and I ordered Fish tacos Plate (grilled.) What is clear is that the cook doesn't use spices or seasonings. The nachos were limp, covered in melted cheese, and had no taste. Ditto for the guacamole...it looked great, but no flavor. My fish taco plate was beautifully presented, very colorful, but neither the fish nor the rice had flavor. The borracho beans were very good. The tortillas served on the side were tough and tasteless. The server, Rebecca, was very good, very attentive and offered me something other than the fish tacos when I voiced my displeasure. Ultimately, this meal was removed from the final bill, which is an appropriate thing to do. The owner of Papa Nacho's is also the owner of Bourbon Stree and Scuzzi's. I've never been to Scuzzi's, but I've enjoyed Bourbon Street several times. Can't understand why the creole/cajun restaurant has all the seasoning, but the mexican restaurant doesn't. I advise an honest internal tasting of the dishes and modify as needed.

Homemade salsa

By road-warri0r10 |

the waitstaff is exceptionally service minded. At his suggestion, we tried the roasted salsa...it was wonderful. entress a bit pricey compared to other mexican food restaurants in SA. the food is delicious

Try pablano soup!

By Frank W |

The food and service were excellent. The pablano soup was most excellent! The wait staff was very attentive without being overbearing.

There is another Papa Nacho's in Stone Oak

By neuroshrink |

It has been there a year and a half. North side of the loop. First, Charles is an awesome waiter--he looks like Douglas Fairbanks in his later years -- distinguished, well dressed, polite, well spoken. This place gets a good rating just for Charles. But the service in general was OUTSTANDING. Let me also praise the chips and salsa -- very thin light chips, very flavorful fresh tomatoes crushed this morning salsa. Outstanding. That said, I think I would pass on my "texas burrito" dinner in future -- there were beans on the plate, and yet the burrito was stuffed with beans and taco meat - too much and I would have liked a smaller burrito that wasn't overloading me on the beans. The beans were good though. The Chicken Monterey, however, was fantastic- very nice presentation, excellent chicken breast covered with melted cheese. The Chicken Enchilada Verdes also looked very good. But I thought the cheese enchilada dinner was buried in far too much chili sauce. Bottom line: There are great things on this menu, the restaurant is comfortable, the service is awesome. and go to the Stone Oak one and ask for Charles -- he will make your evening.

A Little kept secret place in Leon Springs –

By Marc C |

Excellent location in Leon Springs and have frequented the restaurant for several years – Their lunch portions are really for two people and the nice thing is they offer the lunch menu on the weekends which is rare in a lot of restaurants. Their chicken Verde and Fajitas are awesome and if you order the lunch Fajitas; it is enough for two. They do have a tendency of ‘rushing to take your order’ so let them know your pace and they will accommodate you. I think you will enjoy your experience and if not; you will enjoy the food. They are also associated with UNITED MILAGE Plus rewards so you if have registered your cards with UNITED PLUS Rewards, you will make out great. One note; their Ceviche is not served in a glass as most places do. They are served on flat tostados and the appetizer can easily be a meal. A little different but that is their way. Their Salsa and Chips are great and I would take some home if you have room!

I am blessed to live just over a mile away from my favorite Mexican Restaurant. Papa Nachos at Boerne Stage Road and I-10 has the best enchiladas I have had in my entire life (and I grew up in Texas). And, they have a great variety of enchiladas. But that's not all. From the age of 5 my son has declared their Kid's Quesadilla to be the best in San Antonio (and he is an expert). The service is fantastic. If you get a margarita, ask for the blue one.

Consistently good food and great service!

The food is very good and the portions are huge. Consistently great experiences every time we visit regardless of the size of our dining party.

By Lareasa P |

IF YOU ARE NOT FRIENDS WITH THE OWNER, YOU ARE NOT A PRIORITY!!! PARTY OF 16 TOLD TO LEAVE AFTER BEING SEATED DUE TO FRIENDS OF THE OWNER WERE ON THEIR WAY IN AND THEY WERE A PRIORITY….. We eat at Papa Nachos and have for years. This past Friday night we had a large party gathering for dinner. Papa Nachos does not take reservations. We had a few individuals of our group arrive early at the restaurant to get our name on the list. The hostess put a table together for our party including chips, salsa and water on the table. The hostess seated our party and was aware that the rest of the party was on their way. Three members of the party already sitting at the table, drinking water, and eating the chips. A staff member rudely walked up, did not introduce himself or welcome them but rudely stated that they needed to leave the table that the table was reserved for someone else. She tried to explain that the table was set up for our party. We had 15 chairs and a high chair at the table and that the hostess set it up for our group. The manager stated that we would have to wait for another table because that was reserved for friends of the owner. At this time, the rest of the party was walking in the door. I asked for a manager and tried to explain the situation. The manager was clearly confused.. A staff member noticed what was going on and explained that the manager that I was speaking to had difficulty with English and directed me to another manager. I explained the situation to the second manager and he informed me that he was the one who told our party that they needed to leave the table. I explained that the table was set up for us and the hostess had already seated us. He said that the table was reserved for friends of the owner and they were playing golf and were on their way in. I explained that I was aware that they did not take reservations and our party had already been seated. He said that the party that was coming in was “a priority and they eat there every Friday night”. Are you kidding me? I wanted to walk out the door at that moment, but I asked when they could seat our party and his response was that they were crowded and didn’t have many tables that they could put together for a large party that we would have to wait which could be an hour and a half or more. Our group walked out the door. I stopped by the hostess stand so I could make sure and have all of the names correct of the staff members that were involved. The hostess along with a waiter deeply apologized stating that they can not believe the way we were treated. DISAPPOINTED!!!!!

First time and pleasantly surprised

By L H |

We've been wanting to try this place for some time. It is located in the shopping center in Leon Springs close by the HEB gas pumps. There is easy access parking including handicap parking. We had lunch during the week and it was not at all crowded. We were pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere of the restaurant. We thought it was going to be a tiny little outdated Tex-Mex "dive" with booths and small tables. We were very mistaken as it is a very nice sit down with plenty of seating and has a full bar that also has seating and a TV in the bar area. We were greeted and seated immediately and our waiter, Dylan, was very friendly and efficient. We noticed they had an abundance of waiters compared to the lack of customers but then it might be a late lunch crowd. Everything was very clean and the atmosphere was calm with nice decor and great, eclectic collection of items shelved around the room. We were brought our table tortilla chips and salsa as we sat down. The salsa was spicy and the chips were very crisp. The menu is quite varied with usual Tex-Mex items. We ordered the cheese enchiladas ($7.99) and Chicken Puffy Tacos ($7.99). Both plates were generous portions for lunch. The cheese enchiladas were filled with a different cheese than the cheddar they were topped with. It was very smooth and creamy much like melted Velveeta cheese. They were good and filling though. The puffy tacos were large and the shredded chicken was mixed slightly with a tomatilla type sauce, so a tiny "zip" to it, and the taco shell was a slight bit greasy. The refried beans and Spanish rice were both a good texture and flavorful. We were glad we decided to finally try this place and would visit again when in the area making sure to try other menu items.

Excellent food, excellent service!! There guacamole is consistently excellent every time. Food turnaround is less than 10 minutes!

Excellent food, great margarita, great service

By Shan B |

We ate with some friends at Papa Nachos in Leon Springs this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent, I had Spinach enchiladas, my son had shrimp (grilled) tacos, and friends had shrimp fajitas. We all had frozen margaritas and everything was delicious. The salsa was very fresh and the chips light and crispy. We will return!

Pleasantly surprised

By texanbred |

Yesterday I had the grilled filet of Mahi Mahi w/poblano creme sauce at lunch & it was absolutely perfectly grilled. The poblano sauce that they make there is the best I've had so far anywhere in San Antonio. I've also had the chicken enchiladas w/green creme sauce & many more dishes there, each excellently prepared & very abundant. I recommend that if if you want very authentic TEX-MEX food, try this place. They also have another location on IH10 West. They have a very extensive menu & the service at both locations is excellent. Currently my top choice for TEX-MEX food in San Antonio.

Great New Location!

By truetexangurl |

The food at the new location off 1604 and Stone Oak Is just as delicious as the original location in Leon Springs! Best Mexican food in San Antonio!

Nothing to brag about

By TinatheLlama |

The food was okay, the drinks were sub-par. The Chile con queso tasted like Velveeta with a can of rotel. The queso flameado wasn't the way it is traditionally made, the cheese doesn't have the right stringy consistency that is known for queso flameado. When I asked the server if they put chorizo or rajas (green chiles) in their queso he said he doesn't know but it "looks like they put chorizo in it." I still don't know exactly what's in it. The bar drinks were not good. I tried the Margarita on the rocks and the piña colada and neither were good.

Sunday Lunch

By L H |

This is located in Leon Springs in the HEB shopping center right off the access road of IH10. We stopped in after church for a late lunch and were immediately greeted and seated. The place was busy but still some tables available. They have both table and some booth/table seating as well as a full bar with seating. Guests are not required to wear masks although the wait staff were wearing masks. Our waitress Chloe A. was SUPER. She was courteous, cordial, professional and prompt. We didn't have to ask for drink refills or the ticket as she was right on it. A large basket of chips was brought promptly along with very mild salsa. The chips were crisp and the salsa tasty but not overly spicy. One ordered the lunch cheese enchiladas ($10.99) and it was a hardy serving of two enchiladas, rice and choice of beans. The other ordered the lunch Chicken Monterrey ($12.99) which came with a small salad, choice of beans, and rice. Two grilled chicken pieces topped with tomato slices, cheese and avocado slices. It was a very large serving for lunch and enough to bring home and make another meal of if you are a lite eater. The lunch menu is 7 days a week from 11 to 4 which is great! All of the food was delicious and fresh and the ice tea ($2.99) was perfect as well. The environment was clean and low noise level even being at almost full capacity. An enjoyable experience and appreciate Chloe's great service!

Try the puffy tacos

By Denise B |

The puffy tacos are so good.. service was good. They were really busy. But, that didn't seem to be a problem

Best TexMex I've found since living in San Antonio!

By tomuchpriss |

Food is always good, quality meats, beef fajitas are yummy, fajita chicken is moist and not dry (hard to find), queso is good, tortillas are fresh, chips are thin and crispy and margaritas are on point!! Service is always awesome!! Ask for Miguel he's so fantastic!

Best in San Antonio

By Hal C |

There are lots of Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. Some good and some not so good. Papa Nachos food rates among the very best. Especially try any of their chicken dishes. Their lunch specials are an excellent value. If ordering any of the meat dishes, upgrade to "fajita meat". It's worth it. We go there about once a month, and within a few miles of our home, we have lots of choices. Nice atmosphere. Located in the far NW corner off of I-10 at Leon Springs.

Every Dog Has His Day

By OmniEpicurean |

Every dog has his day and every restaurant has its dog day. This visit just happened to be the one where the dog got out of the kennel and into the kitchen. Actually, the food would have been good if it had been served hot. Heralded by a "hot plate" warning from the waiter, we approached the food with caution not wanting to be scalded by molten boraccho bean liquid or seared by an errant cheese strings. Worries were for naught. Surprisingly the food was barely room temp, but we were hungry and did not send the food back. We did let our waiter know that the food was not the temp it should be, but no offer was made to heat it and only a weak apology forthcoming. We did notice that the waiter relayed our comments to the manager who promptly turned around and went into the kitchen. That was the extent of the restaurants reparation. When we exited past the manager, there was no, "thank you for coming" or "sorry for the problem with the food" salutation. Was this just the weekend manager or the new "kid" on the block. Ether way, shame on him. Be careful Papa or you may just run long time customers off.

Nice, consistent place

By JimC2626 |

My wife and I have ate at Papa Nacho's 'dozen's' of times. We always find the food consistently good and the service above average. We really enjoy the fish dishes and the enchiladas. Usually not much of a wait, even on a busy weekend evening. If you're like us, and do not like to wait for seating, this is a major 'plus'.

A Very Good & Reasonable Place to Eat

By RABabcock |

Overall, one gets a good bang for their buck at this restaurant. The Special Lunch plate with a crispy taco, two enchiladas, beans and rice is a great place to start. The chips and salsa, provided before one eats was impressive, as the chips were thin AND warm. A sad note was the refried beans and rice were bland. A good place to take a family out, especiall if you're on a budget.

Return visit

By L H |

We stopped in here on a Sat. for dinner and was able to find parking even though the place was quite busy. We were seated fairly quickly and our waiter, Hector, was prompt, professional and courteous. They have a full bar with bar stool seating as well as a few booths in the bar area. The restaurant has mostly table seating with some booth seating. It is one large room so the noise level was high due to the type of ceiling and amount of people. The chips were thin and crisp and the salsa was tasty but not too spicy. We ordered the Cheese Enchiladas which came with 2 enchiladas, refried beans, rice and a speckle of shredded lettuce ($12.99). There was a wait for the food but expected with the amount of people. It looked like more people were having margaritas than tea or water so we wondered if that was because the margaritas were extra good or if they had a special going on a Sat. night:) The food was steaming hot so had to wait a bit to be able to enjoy it. The beans and rice were standard fare and the sauce on the enchiladas was good but there was too much cheese and it was real rich and smooth like Velveeta. We would visit here again but order something different. They did have sanitizer at the entrance and at the bar area. The rating I chose was more for the waiter than the food we had this time.

Great Lunch Menu! Add The Pablano Soup

By TallyHoHoHo |

This is a good local restaurant for me. I don't eat there very often, but every once in awhile I crave a good fajita and then I head straight there. Their lunch menu has some really good choices and the prices are reasonable. Their extended lunch hour let's you order up till 4pm from the special menu, so late afternoon lunch meeting are good for this place. I've had a few mediocre meals here, but they usually are because the server didn't get the food out quick enough and things like nachos get soggy pretty quickly. The free chips are always light and crispy and most everything on the menu is consistently well-prepared. The only downfall of the place, is that if you do have a problem, the staff and management isn't really very quick to make it right. They'll be happy to get you something else, but they'll still charge you for the soggy nachos. It's has cement floors, and can be loud in the evening, so maybe not the best date place? All-in-all, it's a good local place to catch a quick meal and get on with your day. I'd tend to have lunch here rather than dinner, but you'll most likely have a good meal, especially if you add the Pablano soup to your meal. It's an unusual soup, not served in many restaurants and just right for filling in all the crevices.

Good overall

By diamondmarie |

I love the spinach enchiladas this place serves, always good, always reasonably priced. Iced tea is about $3 with no refills. Big disappointment!! Love it overall.

Service - Food - Price. WOW on all 3!

By Bob S |

I've eaten here several times over the past 4 years and it surprises me that it just keeps getting BETTER! Let me explain... about 15 months ago, I was having lunch here and asked for some jalapeño slices on the side. It took a bit of explaining, but they happily complied. Eating here yesterday, they had a new menu item - jalapeño chicken enchiladas. I asked Kendall - our SUPER waitress (she asked if I'd like my Dos Equis served with a chilled or non-chilled glass) - if I could have the jalapeño enchiladas but with cheese. She quite happily said "Yes" and, on bringing them to the table, they came - without a request - sliced jalapeños! On top of that, my wife's Chicken Chipolte was wonderful! The breast was flattened, cooked perfectly, smothered just right with a light, rich and "just-right" spicy. These two exceptional dishes, coupled with Kendall's speedy, attentive service led me to recommend this experience!

Good Mexican Food

By GunnyFred |

The menu includes a wide choice of selections at a very reasonable prices. Service is excellent with a friendly staff.

Good food

By Booboo811 |

It’s not the best Mexican food, but it’s just good clean food! They have good fajitas and great chicken soup (it use to be called tortilla soup). I always get it if I have a cold or URI.....I swear it cures it!!!

Good, Also Heavy

By Ruth T |

I ordered the seafood enchiladas with grilled fresh summer squash instead of the beans. I love the MX rice, loved the shrimp, scallops and crawfish in the white sauce. The corn tortillas wrapping the white cheese were fresh but not quite my flavor. The cheese was too plentiful, I should have had the will power to eat only one and not the second enchilada. Honestly, it was the fact that I choose to eat the second that makes the experience heavy. The server, John, worked well with my allergies, he made sure I did not get into wheat or potatoes or anything else I cannot eat. Overall, it was a great experience. I will go back.

Return visit

By L H |

We met friends for early dinner. The parking is a small lot but close to a larger business area parking lot. Seating was no problem since we arrived early and even as it got busier, there was still good seating. They have small area at full bar for bar seating and booth seating in bar and there is a large dining room with table seating and another smaller dining room area with seating. All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. Our menus and drinks were brought quickly and the menu has a large selection of items. We did have to ask for a alcohol drink menu which did not have any pricing on it. We asked if they offer a happy hour but the waiter "didn't think" they did. That was never clarified. Everyone order a different entrée and the majority enjoyed their choices. Only one wasn't as pleased who order the Cobb Salad ($13.99) although it was a large salad, it had more core spine from the Romaine lettuce than care for. The rest of good though and the dressing was very good as well. The Papa Salad ($13.99) was also a large serving and it was enjoyed. Then noise level was low even with a good amount of people dining. The pricing is mid range for this type of restaurant. We would return and is a good place for a small or large group. There were six of us and note they added the 20% tip charge on the bill.

Good food, great service.

By Phil R |

First of all this restaurant is not in San Antonio, but is in Leon Springs about 10 miles north of S.A. The food is good, a bit overpriced, the service was great and the atmosphere is comfortable. I would recommend Las Platypus which is next door.

Best Mexican Food I've Had

By sheila c |

When I say this is the BEST Mexican food I've had in San Antonio, and I've been here for over 40 years, I kid you not! It's a little pricey ($18 for 12) but it was worth it. The waiter was also very nice. Also, enchiladas have chili con carne, not gravy on them. Chips and salsa are good and you'll probably have to get a to go box!

Reliably good.

By Time4Pizza |

Started to make this location our go-to place. Good chips but don't fill up on them. Pretty fast service and really decent.

Mostly Consistent and a Convenient Place to Eat

By OmniEpicurean |

PN is usually a good place to go when we don't want to travel inside 410 to go to one of the plethora of Tex-Mex restaurants that abound therein. The understanding is that the food will not be quite as good as the tried and true south and west side taquerias and that it will be 25 - 50% more. That's the price of convenience. I must admit that the enchiladas today were no dogs though. The corn tubes were well stuffed with flavorful beef and covered with lots of beef gravy and melted cheese. Boracho beans were average and the rice almost too garlicky (and that's hard to do for this garlic lover). Bean and cheese nachos would have been better with jalapenos that were less crunchy. It's almost like they were fresh except for the vinegar after taste and the lack of heat. They do have other dishes besides the basics that are quite tasty, but also above average in price. Service was pleasant and sufficient. I really have no complaints about the place other than the aforementioned. Besides Aldaco's, the new and overpriced La Gloria and Las Palapas (which is more like fast food), PN is the only Tex-Mex restaurant in our immediate vicinity. We have found the food mostly decently consistent and will probably continue to partronize the place even though there are many other places that are better (taste / price). I have been to more than 40 "sit down" Tex-Mex restaurants in SA and this one would probably not make my top 10 . . . but that's just my opinion.

suprise, the best mexican food in San Antonio is in a strip mall!

By 1999Spurs |

Yes, 20 minutes from downtown and no special ambiance and in the corner lot of a grocery store strip mall, but the best Mexican food in town and I have been a native here for 40+ years. Great Tex Mex, great quality, fast and friendly service. I love the cheese enchiladas for lunch but the mahi mahi grilled dinner with artichokes, capers, tomatoes and the like is the best fish in town as well. hard to believe I know but I have never had a bad meal here and I will continue to make visits here a staple of my diet. A fast luch alone or a nice dinner with friends, yes they can do both and they do it well.

Best Mexican food in S.A.

By jennydav |

The quality of ingredients (no mystery meat here)is just one reason we go back again and again. They don't skimp on spices either, great depth of flavor in everything. Most of all consistency of quality and great service. Two locations in S.A. on north side.

A good place to eat plus a great lunch menu.

By Mike P |

Gone there many times. The food is always fresh, the servers are usually very attentive and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Also there are quite a few artifacts on the walls to see while you are dining.
