Bad experience

By Medusa |

I have been more than thirty times in Pappadeaux in the Dallas area and I have always felt good, but this has been a bad experience, starting with the bad smell out of the restaurant and then the service. I was with my family as soon as they arrived they told us we had to wait 20-25 minutes. After 20 minutes they tell me that I was the second on the list, after 30 minutes they had not called me yet, after 40 minutes I complained and finalmnte, with even polite ways, made me sit at my table. We tried to eat as quickly as possible to get away and forget the bad experience.

Oysters and Emma

By artsanmiguel |

The chicken tenders and fried oysters were excellent! Their sautéed spinach is an great side dish. Emma our food server has a great talent to make your dining experience superb! Costa Rica

Great service.

By AQueenB |

We met family for lunch and we had a lovely time. Our waiter, Carlos, was absolutely amazing which made the meal even more fun. The food was very good but not as good as Pappadeaux on I 10 in Houston. But the service was so exceptional that it made up for everything. I had the crawfish pi-boy which is always my go-to meal. We all had something different but each order was perfect. Good times.

Terrific service and ambiance

By Gloria L |

There is a beautiful lady with hair so long that her pony tail goes below her waist who served as our waitress. She always goes above and beyond, and always with a gracious smile. We got top shelf margaritas that were filled almost to the brim. They were delicious. The salads had crisp and fresh lettuce plus other delicious fresh and excellently prepared items. The shrimp with grits were really tasty. The shrimp were large, the grits had corn and finely chopped andouille sausage and the accompanying spinach with onions were all delicious. With the jazz in the background and the brightly colored decor, while we were dining in Austin, we felt we had taken a quick trip to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Fantastic seafood, great service

By Kathy L |

We went to Pappadeaux for an early Valentines Day lunch. Ordered the shrimp and grits and blackened catfish with red beans and rice. Both were excellent. Our server was very helpful in narrowing down our selection (her exact words were: "I work here for the shrimp and grits" so I had to order them.). She did not steer us wrong. The grits had a bit of whole corn and andouille in them which made them great. And I loved the sauce. My husband's blackened catfish was also very good. Ordered the Valentines Day cheesecake to go at our servers recommendation and it was excellent and so big we shared it on two days, Can't wait to return.

Great Food and Service!

By Travelbird313 |

This was our first experience eating at Pappadeaux and we were very impressed. The seafood was cooked to perfection and my grits were flavorful and yummy. My husband loved his dish as well. Our server Eli was so sweet and accommodating. She truly made the whole experience perfect. Thanks Eli!

Great place but not over impressed

By Richard H |

This restaurant was recommended to me but I was not as impressed as I thought I'd be. Helpings are huge and there was too much fried food. Loved some of the trimmings but could not finish it all. The restaurant ambience is good and the fresh bread and butter sufficed as a starter (and was a highlight of the meal). My friends had a higher view of the restaurant but I'd have preferred something smaller and tastier ... quantity isn't always what one wants.

Pappadeaux's always delivers

By porter_osborne |

Had a great dinner for two couples. Although seated a bit too near kitchen, our party of 4 had a great dinner. Drinks before dinner were well prepared, but margaritas were pretty skimpy, Crab and spinach dip and alligator tail appetizers were very good. Entrees were all excellent. We shared on Crispy texas red fish, one shrimp and grits, and one salmon topped with crabmeat. With the appetizers it was more than we could eat. We all departed well satisfied. Rating would be better if drinks were not glasses full of ice with a bit of liquid poured over the top. NOTE construction has the exits consolidated so use your eyes and not your GPS to determine exit numbers. Also, you can not easily access this restaurant from Cameron or La Posada. There is a median in the road there.

Do NOT Sit in Carlo's Section!!!

By georgepE6376LG |

Do NOT sit in Carlos's section!! He's dirty, rude, unprofessional and does NOT know how to treat people, especially the elderly! When you go, ask the host/hostess to sit you with ANYBODY EXCEPT CARLOS!!!

Service Sucks

By MeLinda L |

We were here on a business trip on 3/26/2019; waited over an hour for our food. Server was horrible. He gave our food to a different table, he was slow to check on us, when our food came to the table it was cold. We ate it any way;due to being so hungry. Some of the Managers on duty had extremely long hair and shouldn't be walking in and out of the kitchen. I was totally disappointed with the service. The food was good but cold.

Great food and great atmostphere

By Vanessa H |

We went on a Thursday night and it was packed! We were a party of two and got seated quickly. They serve you bread and creamy butter as an appetizer. He had the Moroccan Salmon and shrimp and I had Fried Shrimp & Cajun Fried Chicken Tenderloins. The salmon and shrimp was so flavorful, the couscous had tantalizing flavors as well. Now for my meal, the shrimp was my favorite with the delicious tarter sauce. The chicken was somewhat bland, however, the chicken was tender. I opted to get the baked potato instead of the fries, the baked potato was excellent! The atmosphere was amazing and so was our waiter. The food had good portions and we were able to take a dessert home to eat it. What made me chuckle is when the waiter came back and asked if we wanted dessert, we of course said yes and I asked for the menu. He brought over a huge platter with every dessert that they have there. Now that is what I am taking about! We can actually see how big those desserts were and see what peaked our interest. Please get the Creme Brulee, it is to die for!

Consistently tasty seafood restaurant

By Aggiedirtdoc |

Year after year, this Pappadeaux's never disappoints. They offer fresh seafood selections along with attentive service.

Birthday Outing

By Burt W |

Don't let the parking lot fool you - even if it is packed; there is likely room inside to be seated. The square footage inside is incredible - which is great for keeping the wait times to a minimum. Decided on going here for the birthday instead of the more expensive seafood alternatives - and it was worth the decision. Despite being the middle of a heatwave in the summer - inside was cool, clean & well organized despite having to seat so many people. Seriously - if you are looking for a party location; look here instead of the more expensive options. Went with the order of shrimp (medium gets you a dozen), and the great thing was that they even allowed it to be ordered/prepared Scampi; which was kind of them despite it not being a traditional way listed on the menu. Took a side of green beans which were also well prepared, and tasty. The shrimp though were almost divine in whatever sauce they had prepared them in. Even took some of the wife's salmon to try it in the same sauce on the plate with the shrimp - was fantastic with that as well. Took a small side of shrimp gumbo with the meal (small upcharge but nothing outrageous) - which was also a great companion to the meal. Did not order dessert as we had cake waiting at home to celebrate with - but would have liked to have tried the key lime pie as it looked worthwhile. All in all, a very good meal for fresh seafood.

Impressed!

By Rachel L |

This was my first time ever at a Pappadeaux restaurant. I was really impressed with the atmosphere. I also was impressed with the many different types of menu items, from pasta to huge Alaskan King Crab Legs. I got their Mahi Alexander dish and it was very delicious! The service was great too. I would definitely go again.

Family Night

By Danielle |

I took my two son's and daughter in law while visiting them from out of town. Really good service and a great selection. The food was amazing and like they say, they do everything big in Texas. The portions were just that, BIG lol!

Poor customer serviice

By gblind |

Poor customer service - Management does not care about customer issues and chose not to accept a complaint about the food I was served.

Outstanding Sea food Restaurant in Austin

By Mark S |

Couldn't have ended up anywhere better in the Austin area. We were looking for a restaurant and found this great place. The server, the food, the entire experience was excellent!

Not Worth The Price

By Amanda M |

Experience keeps getting worse and worse, I had a reservation for 8 pm. My guess of 20 was there ready to enjoy the night. 9:30 we was still waiting to be seated. I tried calling other restaurants around but it being Saturday, n my party being large there would be a wait. After seated in another area, because the workers said the party before us, in the party room would not leave, 3 hours in. One table received bread. While the other 3 had to ask for bread. The drinks was great. The good was horrible. The fried seafood platter was soft, most of us got a to go plate. We paid for the food but I will never be going back. This is the second time this restaurant has ruined my Birthday Dinner Get Together. Very Irritated and Disgusted.

Not Too Special

By Linda G |

If you like lots of noise and salty food, this is the place for you! It was so noisy we couldn't hear each other. I had the Moroccan Salmon and Shrimp, it was overcooked and dry. Very expensive restaurant.

CATFISH FOR LUNCH

By Miles Archer |

I had the lunch special of catfish with beans and rice. Pretty good. Enough food so my appetite was sated. Reasonably priced. Good service. I'd get this meal again.

Excellent service!

By Gloria L |

The seafood gumbo was very tasty. My husband enjoyed the grilled catfish, fried oysters, stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab. The fried onion rings were a hit. The garden salad was also good. It just had a couple of small wilted greens. Tim and the team of servers were very good.

Not hungry

By Grandlade1202 |

I needed to fill some time before my evening flight and stopped here for lunch. I wasn't hungry at all but thought I'd grab a bit because it was going to be a long night before I got home. Best decision I made. The food was good. My first bite melted in my mouth, unbelievable! I had the pasta, lump crab meat, scallops and shrimp in a vodka sauce. Didn't think I was going to eat it all but it was so good! The service/server could have been a bit more attentive but I get it he was hurrying to get to his lunch break....shrugs shoulders) he told me this. Good experience and I will be back with an empty stomach.

Always incredible

By Richard W |

Pappadeaux is one chain that has not become diluted by expansion. Always exciting just to look at the menu. Great food and great service.

Birthday Celabrations, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

By star95presson |

This November Scorpions celebrate their birthdays and there were two celebrants out of the thirteen invitees partaking in the evenings night out. We found the establishment well staffed with individuals that facilitated seating and subsequent needs related to obtaining our prepared food. The restaurant is fairly large providing similar service to numerous groups and or individuals and yes there is a bar area with big screens to watch sporting events. The seating was comfortable, as it appeared not an issue to seat the numbers we had, or maybe even larger group. The food was prepared as ordered with none being sent back, but there was one minor issue when the waiter spilled something on one attendees shirt sheave, which I believe was resolved to the individuals satisfaction. When in the area I would utilize the establishment again.

Be sure to dine here

By TaylorRose |

Staying in north end of Austin and TripAdvisor showed Pappadeaux as highly rated and hotel also recommended. This is one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. The restaurant is a lovely building with a wonderful ambience, the Cajun menu is very authentic and our waitress, Rizzo was amazing. The gumbo soup is filled with seafood and a mildly spicy soup. The stuffed trout with pecan butter sauce was melt in your mouth and couple easily feed 2 people with smaller appetites. I highly recommend the top shelf margarita. The bread pudding was divine and made for 2. Look forward to dining here again before we leave Austin.

Something wrong

By Patrick S |

I really needed to think about this review. Service was just "ok" there were a few small errors on his part but nothing worth writing about..however when paying bill waiter left my credit card in the machine and brought me receipt to sign. That was it for me. You majorly blew your tip on that one. With all the credit card fraud going around, I am most careful about that..also I didn't notice you removed a charge for calamari which is fine but he never said anything. Here is my receipt. So there is no question who I'm talking about. I still love this place, been eating same meal since 2000. Price has doubled since I first ate here, but still love it. Waiter be more careful next time.

Outstanding meal

By travel1 |

Great restaurant. Stopped here for dinner while visiting Austin. Very friendly waitstaff, fast service and outstanding food. We had the coconut shrimp appetizer and the gumbo then the trout and the halibut for a main course. Both were very good. Save room for dessert- banana pudding and Key Lime pie both huge servings and worth every calorie

Consistently very good seafood

By rob s |

We started with 1/2 dozen blue point oysters-ice cold-very good. She had hand tossed shrimp & crab, I had the fried catfish-all at lunch prices.

First visit

By Clara's Girl |

Service was horrible from the moment the waiter sat me down. I was his first table and a table for one person and two more tables arrived after me. Before they arrived I placed my drink and appetizer order but the others received theirs before I received mine. Same thing with the main course along with other issues in between. By this time I'm frustrated with him and my food isn't the best or the way I requested so I ask for a to go box and instead of getting my box he goes and sits at one of the tables and starts talking sports with the other two tables. I finally got his attention by yelling at him that I want my to go container and he tell me hold on and keeps talking. Of course I'm livid. He finally bring my container and my bill and it's 96 which is wrong so at this point I request a manager. Last time at this location.

Great place!

By honduras77 |

Went there with friends and had to wait in line (which is normal) don't worry it's worth it. The food is great as well as the service.

Delicious seafood

By Dave G |

Returned here after 28 years to find the blackened catfish was just as good as ever. Great friendly service and large portions.

Pappadeaux always delivers

By BeaglesLocos |

Had an excellent dinner at Pappadeaux. The redfish and crab dip were fantastic. I highly recommend Pappadeaux for excellent seafood in Austin

Great Atmosphere

By carol c |

Went here with a few friends, the atmosphere was relaxing, the food was good and wait staff was pretty friendly. I am not a seafood eater, but I found a great option to indulge in.

Deliciously Seasoned Food.

By Joseph Prah |

First, you get a lot of food for your money. Tasty, delicious & well seasoned food. Moderate prices. Spacious. Great for groups, dates, etc.

Small portions Crawfish Etouffee

By Steve S |

Very small portions in their Crawfish Etouffee. And this set me back $30. Very disappointed. I used to go to one of the original locations off of Richmond Drive in Houston back in the early 90's...Times have changed....

Our lives wouldn't be complete unless we got to eat at Pappadeaux's!

By Sue T Walker |

Pappadeaux's is a restaurant where we always have plenty to eat! My husband said his shrimp tasted like it was so fresh, it must have been caught an hour or two before we came to the restaurant! We've learned through the years to order either an appetizer for a main course or something small. This time I ordered the Greek salad and a baked potato. Both were delicious. The Greek salad is actually put together right at your table. This was the perfect restaurant for our wedding anniversary! Oh, and we still had to-go boxes! A half of a loaf of fresh French bread was served at the table before the meal.

Disappointing

By mickeyd54456 |

I have been going to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen for many years. At times the service has been mediocre but food has always been very good. Last weekend we had dinner there and the food and the service were disappointing. The server was busy chatting it up with the others while my water and 🍺 ran empty. The fried seafood platter was bland. Overall an expensive disappointment.

Great place to eat!

By Roy L |

Just had another great meal. The seafood gumbo had just the right amount of heat and the po' boy very tasty. The pre-meal bread is always amazing.

Bad food, terrible service

By mlmwhitney |

I had fond memories of eating at Pappadeaux on previous visits to Texas. To say my husband and I were disappointed is an understatement. We visited on a Tuesday night, so it was not that busy. Our hot food came before our drinks or salad but easily 20 minutes after we ordered. It was cold. We finally got our drinks, but waited another 10 minutes for our salads. The server was serving a couple of large groups and brought them their checks and took their payments while we waited for our food and drinks. Their food is expensive, and we expected better food and service.

Still great

By Armando R |

We've been to Papoadeaux's before and this place continues to live up to its great expectations. They didn't have crabcakes, so we tried the crab spinach dip, and it was excellent.

Not sure what’s going on here,

By lcclev67 |

Not sure what’s going on here, but restaurant is almost empty but they still say it’s a 40 minute wait. One section is full...badly managed

Dinner was overcooked, salty, nasty and cold

By David W |

Aagh 😩 seafood plate overcooked, salty and late. I’m sure I’ll pay the price attempting to make the best of this overpriced disaster.

Nice Place, Great Catfish, and tartar sauce.

By Nunyabiz wax |

Ate here with a buddy of mine during a conference. It was very good. Place was hopping but the service and the food were great and I think that the place is very ample for large groups. The ambiance was nice for either friends, family or a romantic night out. The waitstaff were excellent!

Seafood???

By scampanozzi |

I find it difficult to explain our disappointment. I am what most people consider an extreme foodie. When people post about something I listen closely and then venture out to find out for myself. Deciding to go here with a group of friends for an early Christmas party we were all equally disappointed. From cold soups to warm salads and poorly prepared entrées we wanted just pay our bill and leave. At some point we had returned at least one from each of the six of us out of all the food we ordered. We expressed our concerns to the waiters and a manager came over and offered us free desserts. No thanks I was a respons at some point we had returned at least one from each of the six of us out of all the food we ordered. We expressed our concerns to the waiters and a manager came over and offered us free desserts. No thanks was our response. Some people love this place but we don’t. Did I forget to mention the kitchen was filthy and the place smells badly as soon as you walk in the door? Well now I did

Crab legs were amazing!

By Lorry T |

I opted for the crab legs and was amazed at how good they were. They had a buttery seasoned sauce they were served with. It was all so good!

Expensive!

By KLK |

My fries were cold!!! All items are very expensive for what you get!!! I would not pick this place to eat very often!!!

Excellent restaurant

By 551melm |

This was the second time we ate there. We loved it both times. Come early or late, or make reservations, as the the line can be quite long. The portions are ample, so I shared my portion with my husband. We also had calamari, which was excellent. There is senior pricing on the lunch menu all day long. We will be back again.

Always a good choice

By Edwin R |

We visited this Pappadeaux because it's a favorite of ours, here in the Dallas area. It's hard to mess up a good thing & Pappadeaux has the formula down. We've never been to one that wasn't crowded and this one was no exception. The only issue we had and it wasn't a big one, is that we had a change of wait staff. Our first waitress was marvelous and I wish I could remember her name, but we ended up with a young gentleman. He did his job, but nothing extra. Overall, the food was good and you get a very good portion

Really Cajun food

By Peggy S |

We've been there at least once a year now. We drive through LA 4-5 times a year and always stop for local Cajun food. This restaurant consistently serves the real thing. The fried oysters are always good. The bar is extensive. The place is very popular and often very difficult to get in without waiting 30-40 minutes. I recommend call ahead reservations, but they don't always take them.

Good good but some problems

By Betsy B |

We ordered dinner To-Go as a treat for Mother’s Day. The fish was delicious, however our order was missing the salad. The gumbo was in a very small container and only filled half-way like someone was in a hurry. The side of squash was a smaller portion in a large container with most of the container empty. I tried to call the restaurant but didn’t get an answer. I emailed them and they asked for our order number which I sent but I haven’t heard back so I’m posting. We may go to eat inside but won’t get a to- go order again.

Birthday Dinner at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

By star95presson |

Birthday Dinner at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, during this visit I requested and was treated to this establishment with dinner in mind. The ambience settings provided lite French Quarter and the food in similar fashion. This establishment maintains the riggers of quality anything lees appears unacceptable. Additionally, this is one of few restaurants where managers work to insure expected quality is present, because you see them, as on this occasion. I was not disappointed with the choice, i.e. everything was at it's finest, as this is a great place to celebrate or just have a relaxing meal. (Note I own no stock or will benefit in any way by positive results from this review) .

Never a bad choice for seafood and cajun!

By Texmt |

Close friends visiting from San Diego wanted to have great seafood Cajun style...wife and I have been going to Pappadeaux years back and never dissapointed, so we decided to take them across town and see how things were going. No disappointment at all. Excellent grilled fish on skewers over dirty rice, seafood gumbo, and desert. Portions of scallops, shrimp, mahi, and salmon were more then we could finish! Highly recommend, but reservations also recommended.

Cody is the BEST!

By Malia R |

Cody was one of the best, if not, the very best server we’ve had. If you can choose to have a Ritz-Carlton experience, personally ask to sit in his section. Class act with great food. Thank Cody for going above and beyond for the @innovetivepetcare crew. We enjoyed our lunch immensely and look forward to dining with you again.

Great Salmon!

By Alice P |

The waitress was very friendly, helpful and attentive! The food was great. Had the spinach and crab dip and it was really great! My Salmon was cooked to perfection! Always love the atmosphere!

Outstanding Seafood

By Harry P |

Two visits. first was fried shrimp and a second entry of seafood pasta. Both fresh and wonderful. Second visit, because the first was so successful, was a large cobb salad with shrimp and crab and a bowl of seafood gumbo and a scrimp poorboy. Excellent service and reasonable pricing.

excellent every time!

By Scott J |

The fried stuff is great but the grilled seafood is tops! Anything with oysters is a can't miss. Service is tops as well. Only negative is the parking.

Fresh, tasty a seafood lovers delight

By CD R |

Dined here on business recently and was very pleased with everything. The wait staff are friendly and efficient, the food is prepared fresh and served hot. Nice touches include complimentary fresh baked bread, appetizers served quickly and attentive staff. Very popular and busy but seated quickly and looked after well. Highly recommend a stop here!

Food is always excellent at Pappadeaux

By Jimmy |

I always go to a Pappaeaux when I am in Texas. The food quantity and quality is always good as well. My favorite is on the lunch menu but you can order it for dinner. It’s the seafood kabob. I got 4 scallops, 6 shrimp and 8 pieces of fish over dirty rice. Amazing meal and it tastes great. Their gumbo soup is always good and plenty of shrimp.

Fried catfish

By roleen s |

The best fried catfish ever. Light cornmeal breading with moistest fish ever. I am dreaming about it. So so delicious. Calamari - ok Stuff shrimp - stay away..thick breading Alligator- ok but u gotta try it Raw oysters- wonderfully fresh!! The dinner plates come with a lot of french fries. Next time we will tell them to save half for another person. Service - very nice. Five stars for catfish and oysters Three stars for all else except stuffed shrimp.

Great Meal

By Patti P |

A dozen Blue Point Oysters, Lobster Bisque. And can we please talk about the Shrimp and Grits? A life altering experience! The Grits alone we're delicious. The Shrimp, tender ly wrapped in bacon and that sauce! Some delicious greens underneath - heaven!

Solid Seafood

By Keith D |

Monstrous portions of fried and Cajun style seafood dishes, with some simple preparations as well. Full bar with numerous wine by the glass options. Conveniently across the street from DoubleTree hotel.

Fantastic service .... as usual!

By BrotherSid |

Pappadeaux's is one of our favourite places. We always sit in the bar because we only have appetizers anymore. One dozen gulf oysters and the shrimp crawdad fondeaux. The bread that accompanies the order is wonderful. The bartender was great and made conversation with us and took very good care of us on our visit. We will be back!

Great seafood every day of the week

By charlesacarter |

A favorite for over 20 years, never been disappointed. Great food, great service and reasonable prices. The steaks are not bad also.

delicious meal and good service

By John |

I tried the stuffed trout with pecan sauce and it was wonderful. This large place had plenty of space on a weeknight and I took my time and was glad I chose it. Thank you, team.

Delicious Seafood

By Darlene K |

We were on our way to a steakhouse and saw this seafood restaurant; decided to give it a try. WOW! For a chain, this restaurant food is really good. I ordered the red snapper with butternut squash. Flaky, moist and seasoned perfectly. It came with a side sauce of lemon, butter and olive oil which I didn’t need. The squash was served in big chunks and was flavorful. My husband ordered the shrimp etouffee, served with rice. Lots of shrimp in a medium spicy sauce. He said it was very good. This restaurant constantly turns over tables and could use a little better clean up before next seating. Our table and chairs could have used another wipe down. The rug below the table had lots of crumbs. Waiter was friendly, efficient and talkative. We were happy we decidedly to stop.

We got great service and food.

By Gloria L |

We got great service and food. The last time we went, the service had much to be desired but this time, it could not have been better. The Louisiana seafood gumbo was delicious and visually attractive. The salads were fresh and just right. The shrimp and grits was tasty.

I don't get the bad reviews

By 2cool4theroom |

We had a great pre-game meal here. The Calamari and Alligator Bites were wonderful. We both had a lunch special for our main course - half a shrimp poor boy and a cup of gumbo, both of which were excellent. But even more excellent was the service! Our server was perfect - patient and professional. If only every server was just like her!

So good but so busy

By Susan J |

This place is constantly packed. I would recommend eating there for lunch, or eating early dinner, so that you can get the very best quality cooking. Everything on the menu is great. We really love the shrimp and oyster fondeaux. So good with the garlic bread. The crawfish etouffee and blackened redfish is so good too. Get a swamp thing drink, and bread pudding for dessert.

Lot's of really good food!

By Matthew R |

Very popular restaurant even on a Tuesday! Great choices on the menu and the quality of food was VG! Not a bid fan of places that charge 4X the value of a bottle of wine, but it is what it is. I would recommend this location for a great meal.

This place is amazing!

By patdi |

We went for a late lunch/early dinner so the restaurant was not crowded. We were taken care of right away, and our waiter was very friendly and professional. I had the crawfish etouffee which tasted straight out of New Orleans! It was prepared and spiced perfectly. My sister had the naked salmon and really enjoyed it, Good thing we saved room for dessert - they were amazing. I wish I could go more often. Any time I am in Austin this will be my first stop!

Lunch highway robbery

By Lynn S |

This restaurant has doubled it prices and claim covid the reason. I call b.s. covid has nothing to do with the prices you pay. There is not a shortage of food here in Texas or Louisiana. Sampler platter. 1 catfish, 4 shrimp, a few crawfish tails. Had to pay 5$ for bake potato. Total cause 36. Just for the platter. The prices on drinks have gone up. 15.00$ for a margarita. My lunch was 55,$. Greed greed. There are other restaurants in the great city for half the price. Never again.

Very Good Meal

By Don S |

We went here for dinner last night and the only downside was a 30 min wait on a Monday night. Food was amazingly delicious, service was superb, and we would go back in a heartbeat

Tasty catfish

By jesfire415 |

We had lunch on a very busy Sunday. Our wait time was about 10 minutes. The severl was very friendly and the food was served quickly. My catfish was hot and and very tasty and the French fries were hot and crisp. The restaurant appeared very clean Overall a very good visit.

Great Meal

By txtrvlrs |

Met here for a business dinner and the service was fantastic. This place is a little pricey but you know that going in. The food was fresh and very good. Definitely 2 thumbs up.

Another seafood feast

Getting Saturday early evening meal going back to room for UT at TCU. Shrimp enbrochette (?) with loaded baked potato was delicious. Paola took care of us being attentive to our drinks and chkg with us .... Wife and I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Food and service.

By tonyandgayemeier |

Had the most enjoyable meal, my wife and I. The food was just wonderful and the service from our table waiter Jared was simply the best. If you visit you have to ask for Jared. Nothing was a problem. Would always return if back in Austin. Tony and Gaye, Christchurch, New Zealand.

We never leave Austin without stopping in for a meal - great food and friendly staff

By Dianne W |

We love to visit Pappa's restaurants in any town where they are located: seafood, Tex-Mex or steak - they do how to do it right - every time. The food is fresh and always delicious. The free loaf of bread with butter is yummy. Rarely do we enter when the place is not packed for lunch or dinner. During very busy Friday and Saturday, there will be a wait time up to 45 minutes.

Seafood See Pappadeaux

By Charles S |

A huge place with a huge menu in a good location serving everything good that is New Orleans seafood. Fried and grilled range of ample portion dishes with sides and salads plus a good range of beers. It was busy, the servers were friendly and attentive. Parking nearby difficult. Worth a visit.

Good food, but poor service

By ET76 |

This was the first time I had eaten at this restaurant, and my overall experience was average! The food was served hot! My waiter was poor! He only checked on me once upon getting my meal! It appears that he was not very attentive. I was seated fairly quickly! The food was good!

Bad services

By Linda H |

My son order his steak medium rare and when he got it, the meat still looks uncook and it does come with a choice of sides and he wants to replace it with a salad and he was charge for the side. I also order my meal and it does come with a side and I choose salad and I was charge with it too. I told her my son meat still looks uncooked and instead of replacing it she goes ok and does not want to replace it. The steak is $48 dollars..that's a lot of money, I did not want to make a fuss about it because I have guest and do not want to bring it out. Very upset with the service. I would not want to go back. I spent almost $400 dollars that night and was not treated fairly.

Great New Orleans Style Cooking in Austin

By CharlieCapp |

I look forward to my Austin trips to visit my daughter. We always go to Pappadeaux's Seafood Kitchen to dine the first night we are there. I used to work in Dallas, and that is where I had my first visit to a Pappadeauxs. I was so glad to find one in Austin.... actually, there are two there. We order the seafood casserol to start, and then pick almost anything else on the menu. The food is always promply served and if there is a question or comcern about anything the wait staff takes care of it immediately. Any, if you like or love seafood, stop in for lunch or dinner and you will not be dissapointed.

Food quite good, restaurant management poor

By Leo C |

My wife and I went to this restaurant on a Tuesday evening. It was busy when we arrived, I was told it would be 40-45 minutes to get a table. 55 minutes later, after waiting outside, we get called in and seated - but about 2/3 of the tables are empty! And we didn't see a crowd leave right before that - it's clear tables were free at least 20-30 minutes earlier. Why management thinks that sort of behavior is not a problem that will discourage people from coming back and/or recommending the restaurant is a mystery. Perhaps the kitchen was short staffed, but if so, that's again a management issue. Both the dishes we ordered were very good and very ample in size (although not quick to arrive, adding to the time it took for the meal), and we split a creme brulee that was very attractively plated and tasted fine (though I wouldn't call it great - we have creme brulee at every restaurant we go to that offers it so I'd say in taste it was just a bit above average). Had we not had the unnecessary delays, I would be inclined to return to try other dishes if we were in town again, and maybe we'll try another restaurant in this chain sometime, but I can't imagine going back to this one after this experience.

great food

By sportcat71 |

Came here on a business dinner as a large group. Our wait staff was very personable but probably could’ve used more help because the time between courses was very long. The drinks were great. The food overall was excellent though I wasn’t a fan of their crab cakes. The key lime pie was exceptional. I would definitely eat here again.

Great food!

By Lorry T |

I recently enjoyed the filet mignonette and lobster. The steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The lobster had a nice flavor. My husband enjoyed his fried fish and shrimp. They prepared his special for him as he is allergic to red pepper. Very nice!

Save yourself $$ and go to Red Lobster

By schnel12 |

Save your money, go to Red Lobster. Al dente potatoes that were RAW. So we asked for some other veggie and were served spinach that came straight out of a bag with no flavor. Our server would rather have been at home sleeping. She had attitude and let us feel it. Had to ask for bread. 6319 N IH35 in Austin. Avoid this restaurant at all cost and head to Red Lobster.

A lot of money for a terrible salad.

By margaret m |

Just picked up a Greek salad, which I ordered to go from the IH-35 location in Austin. I've never had such a disappointing experience with this restaurant. The lettuce was brown and wilted, vegetables weren't fresh, there were some strings of what I imagine were herbs that were also brown, and the bread was rock-hard. Will not dine here again.

Just Ok.

By Cassie P |

I’ve been to several other locations and this was my least favorite. The food was just ok. We had the octopus appetizer and it was more like an entree. It was seasoned well. I ordered shrimp and fries. The French fries were cold but I didn’t feel like complaining because our waittrsss, Shawntay was so nice. My husband got the red fish with brocollini but he didn’t have any complaints. I usually get etoufee when I go so maybe I should’ve just stick with that.

Excellent food and nice atmosphere

It's a huge restaurant with friendly servers, great food and nice cocktails. There's tons of food options on the menu and they also have gluten free choices too.

Pappadeaux's is the best seafood ever! The food is cooked to perfection and very tasty . You actually get your money's worth unlike other restaurants that I have visited

Great food!

By lindafc2017 |

This restaurant has exceptional food and great service. The gumbo is the best anywhere and they have great daily specials. The dress code is casual to business attire. They have beautiful desserts that are large enough to be shared between two. You get a large serving of anything that you order. Dinner for two is between $50 and $60 with cocktails.

Humiliating Experience: Manager’s Bias Tarnished Our Dinner

By Carenmc |

On Saturday, December 21, our evening at the Pappadeaux near I-35 and 183 in Austin devolved into an infuriating and humiliating ordeal, thanks to the appalling behavior of the manager, Becca. What should have been a delightful family dinner became a sour memory marked by bias, condescension, and unprofessionalism. We had dined at this location the night before, because it was right across the parking lot from our hotel, spending a significant amount of money, and returned for what we hoped would be another enjoyable experience. The evening began well: we ordered cocktails, enjoyed appetizers, and were attended to by an excellent server Everything seemed fine—until Becca approached our table. After a brief interaction where we complimented our server, Becca unilaterally decided my brother-in-law would not be allowed another drink, despite his measured behavior. He wasn’t intoxicated, disruptive, or inappropriate in any way on either Friday or Saturday. Instead of addressing him directly, Becca cowardly left the task to our server who was visibly uncomfortable delivering this baffling decision. This approach was both insulting and unprofessional, leaving my brother-in-law humiliated and our entire group stunned. We explained that he/we had nothing to drink prior to arrival and that we would be walking home. Becca’s demeanor reeked of bias. Her dismissive tone and cold attitude suggested she made snap judgments about us based on our Southern accents. While we’re well-educated and intelligent, it seems she reduced us to caricatures of “villagers” unworthy of basic decency. Her behavior crossed the line from poor judgment into outright discrimination, leaving us feeling unwelcome and unfairly targeted. Despite our calm and reasonable explanations, Becca refused to reconsider her decision, doubling down with an air of disdain that ruined what should have been a joyful family gathering. Her actions not only insulted us but also undermined the values of hospitality Pappadeaux claims to uphold. This wasn’t just a disappointing meal—it was a disgraceful experience. We chose to dine at Pappadeaux twice in two days and spent hundreds of dollars, only to be treated like second-class citizens. Becca’s unprofessionalism and apparent prejudice have left a lasting negative impression. To Pappadeaux’s corporate team: Managers like Becca are a liability to your brand. Her behavior was unacceptable, and her evident bias and poor judgment tarnish the reputation of your establishment. If she is to manage a restaurant in Texas, she must learn to treat all guests with respect, regardless of regional speech or any other superficial differences. We urge you to address this incident with the seriousness it deserves—your customers deserve far better than this. To potential diners: If you’re considering this Pappadeaux location, think twice. No amount of good food can make up for the kind of disrespect we endured.

Always good!

Excellent food

By carollS3526FE |

Food was so good. Had a linguine chicken. Oh man this was so good. But very rich. Very large portions. Service was amazing and fast. Our group was 20 people. Server did not confuse anyone wanna or any foods. Thank you.

I had the seafood Cobb salad. Ok salad. Not too much seafood. Over abundance of chopped hard boiled eggs. Prices here are very high.

Overrated

By Al S |

Was on the wait list to enter, even though there were many empty tables available. I guess there was not enough service staff available. Expected better quality dishes, but dishes came with missing ingredients and uncooked pasta. Bad cooking. Expensive and not well made. Seems like a popular place, but in reality is just overrated. This review is for interstate hwy 35 Location.

Both of us ordered crawfish combo lunches

We both ordered crawfish comb lunches today . I was enjoying my meal and suddenly felt ill but it couldn’t have been the food. I got my food to go and plan on eating it later today after I feel better. Dad enjoyed his meal though.

First meal on foreign soil

Flew 20 hours. Hilton across the road, Pappadeaux a stones throw from the hotel front door. Needed a kick in the pants. Gumbo didn’t disappoint, great flavours and just enough to keep the big train rolling after a day of plane food. Great staff, ate at the bar and enjoyed some conversations.

In town for business... always wanted to try this restaurant. Arrived at noon. Greeted at the door and got a table instantly. Waitress was attentive and sweet the entire time. Gator bite appetizer was to die for...I ordered a Purple Voodoo. This drink was amazing (it was 5 o’clock somewhere)! I also decide to try the Grilled Shrimp and Grits... so full of flavor. I had a good baby when I was done. The closest Pappadeux to me is 2 hours away...I guess I’ll be doing some driving.

Traveliers, right off I-35 this Pappadeaux is awesome!

Traveliers, right off I-35 this Pappadeaux is awesome! Just like most of the Pappadeaux Seafood restaurants, this one is Outstanding! The service is always good and the food is top notch!

Excellent choice for solo dining

By Melanie918 |

Stopped in for dinner during business trip. Bar conveniently located near entrance, with plenty of options for the solo diner. Bar staff was friendly and made great recommendations. Food was impeccable, including fried soft-shell crab (not a Texas specialty). Would definitely dine here again - they do great cajun and creole dishes very well; I'd only turn up my nose if I had just dined in the Quarter in New Orleans.

Not my favorite

By BeachbumAggie |

There is a location in Arlington that is always good. The Austin location food is not as good and the service is never as prompt. Most dishes run $25 and up so I expect better quality and service.

I have never had a bad meal at any Pappadeaux restaurant and I have been to a lot of them in different states. This is always a must try in any state.

Big Appetites Only!

By Paula D |

All I can say is that this was an extremely large size proportioned menu - I am not a big fish eater but what I sampled was very good. The baked potato was the size of two Costco muffins! The other girls loved their food also! I had the chicken tender salad that was the size of a mixing bowl! Holy Cow! Our server (who was originally from New Mexico raised in Texas) was so kind, friendly, delightful and very good at her service.

A fantastic find

By Gallie76 |

Staying at a hotel near by looked on Google maps to see what eating places were about , spotted pappadeaux near the hotel and decided to try it. What a great find it was , great atmosphere, Eli who was our server was very polite and helped us with any questions we had. For some One very busy she looked after us well. The food was very nice, the only down side and it's a small down side is the portion size. Too much for me but like I said the food was very nice. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Always good.

By GKBrash |

Have eaten at several Pappadeaux restaurants during my travels and have never been disappointed. Flew in to Austin today and after wadding through traffic to get to the hotel I needed to get some dinner. Pappadeaux was a few minutes away so I decided to go there. As always I sat at the bar. It was a Sunday night and the place was busy, but the bar area was pretty empty. Just so you know Pappadeaux is mainly a seafood restaurant. They have several dishes that have a "Cajun" connection, but they do offer many fish options. For the non-fish eaters they do have steak and chicken dishes. Seafood ranges from lobster and crab as well as many fish options that include trout, flounder, Chilean sea bass, salmon, redfish and tilapia just to name a few. I had the Moroccan salmon and shrimp. This was grilled salmon, shrimp and crab couscous in a fresh herb lemon butter. There was a good sized portion of salmon, three grilled shrimp and some crab meat. The couscous was light and tasty. This was also served with a large loaf of warm bread and whipped butter. All in all for a "chain" restaurant the food has always been very good. I have yet to be disappointed. They offer a full and very complete bar. The location in Austin had several TV's in the bar area which were all tuned to football. They also have a large free parking lot. If you are looking for a place to get good seafood I would not hesitate recommending Pappadeaux.

Like all other Pappadeuax this one is outstanding!

By Bud B |

Can't go wrong with this (or any other Pappadeuax)! Might be a little pricy but the quality and quantity is Outstanding!

Great food, great service. The Shrimp and Crawfish Fondeaux was excellent! Seafood Cobb salad was also very good. So full we couldn’t eat another bite!

Best Seafood and Best Baked Potato

By fr0maustintexas |

The quality of seafood for a landlocked city is the best in Austin. I am especially fond of their large platters...there's a choice of three. My friend and I look forward to going once a week and splitting one platter and a baked potato (generous condiments). It is brought to the table on two plates and with total acceptance of customers sharing one entrée. The fried foods always are crisp and NEVER have a "bad oil" taste. Fresh bread, fancy drinks, interesting desserts and excellent service are add-ons to a wonderful meal. I was born and raised in Austin 65 years ago and try to avoid chains, but I just can't leave this one (and her sister restaurant Pappasitos) alone!

Great Cajun

Always hit a Pappadeaux when I can find one. Alligator with Cajun dipping sauce is a must. Never had a bad anything. Service is top notch too.

Watch your receipt before paying !

By j c |

Usually enjoy this stop, food was OK overall. Scalping of drink prices was the issue this time. A requested drink was over $37 this time. For one 4oz cocktail. I calculated the retail liquor overall price to be $6.00. I told the staff that this was exorbitant. They waved it off. We paid the bill and went to another place for dessert. Won't be going back. This is the second time that this has happened at this restaurant. Disappointed. We have relied on this place in the past. So sad that they are scalping local folks in such an obvious way. (expecting patrons to be too drunk to notice ?) Watch your receipt before paying !!!

Cajun Texan Cuisine

By Dave B |

Went for dinner over Christmas holidays which was busy. The service was great and the food excellent, maybe a bit on the pricey side but its fining dining. Atmosphere was good, interesting to see how the staff operated as kitchen is a see into kitchen. Maybe a bit noisy for some as the ceilings are low but very old southern charm to the fixtures and style you would come across in New Orleans. Service was great and server knew his stuff with excellent suggestions which a couple of us ordered and no one was disappointed their entree.

I have had many pleasant Pappadeaux experiences this wasn't one. the shrimp with grits should have been spectacular but missed the mark.

Huge portions

By rhpatt29 |

I don't normally review chain restaurants but this one is very good. We had a dinner for two. Skinny margarita and a glass of Haystack Sauvignon Blanc. Nice drinks. The wine comes in 5 oz, 8 oz, or bottle portions. The portions are huge. The Texas redfish with shrimp and lump crab meat was great; as was the Barramundi. I had never heard of Barramundi until this evening. Overall, too much to eat. Great flavor. Good service. Very busy and somewhat loud.

Just Geaux!

I have never had bad food here, and I have visited numerous times. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Austin. I had a filet Oscar most recently. It was perfect—medium rare, bearnaise sauce, large lumps of crab meat, and asparagus. I took a delicious serving of banana pudding back to my room with me. WOW!

Great dinner!!

Pappadeauxs is the way to go!

I try to eat at Pappadeauxs whenever the opportunity arises. Their food is fantastic and the atmosphere is quiet and classy. The service, as usual, was exemplary and there are plenty of quiet alcoves where business can be conducted.

First time to this chain. An excellent meal. Good quality food, helpful and friendly staff. Not the cheapest meal in Austin but good value none the less. Cheesecake is excellent and far too generous for one. Would visit again.

Consistently Good

By SeattleBrooklynBoy |

Each time I go to a different location of this restaurant I am always amazed how each one presents well crafted meals. Seafood appears to be their specialty as well as very friendly service. Appetizers were great and salads. My wife had bacon wrapped shrimp that was amazing. Dessert menu was great too. Bourbon selection appeared to be a little weak but perhaps it was my waiter who didn't really know what they had. Maybe the only negative comment I would have is that their servers seem to be moving tables too quickly. I felt a little rushed but the waiter slowed down a bit once it appeared we were not out to be rushed.

Solo Business Lunch Rut

By Bayou_Baby_Boy |

Thought I would visit this place for lunch as I'm traveling for business. As I entered, there wasn't a person there to greet me. That was kind of odd due to it being lunch rush. It took about 5 minutes for someone to come up to the front and when they did, they didn't address me. I spoke up and referred a seat. I chose one near the bar but not actually at the bar. As I sat at my table, it took maybe 10 minutes before the waitress came. She had no excitement and was barely speaking. However, she did check back frequently. But, her energy level was low. As for the bar area, it wasn't cleaned when people left. Food was left there and was only moved if someone asked if they could so they could sit at the bar. That occupied about 4 seats from what I could see. For food, I chose the Pasta Mardi Gras. It was decent. It looked better than it tasted. Not sure if I would make it a primary spot to revisit. But, I may give them another try one day. Maybe this was just a bad moment. Overall, their Hospitality needs IMPROVEMENT. Guests are a Priority and should be welcomed.

Tourist Mecca

By Helen V |

Let me start by saying I love Pappadeaux's seafood. They do an excellent job of creating and preparing wonderful seafood dishes. That being said, there are 2 locations of this restaurant in Austin. This one on IH-35 is a tourist mecca and usually very crowded. The stuffed shrimp plate, my favorite, has been shrinking lately though. The shrimp are much smaller than they used to be and the price is still the same. The location on Hwy. 183 (Research Blvd.) is newer and I like it better. The size of the stuffed shrimp hasn't changed there and that location has more seating, especially at the bar.

Birthday Dinner🎂

By Tania |

This is one of our favorite Seafood spots in Austin, had my daughter’s bday dinner here since this is what a 12 year old wanted. This place always gives me a great experience. Food was on point, appetizers were a hit (calamari & crab dip). Drinks were good we great. Food portions...you always have left overs. Great dining experience, ambience just right and couldn’t ask for a better dining experience.

Tan

By Tan W |

Had a party of 3 that ate there on a Tuesday evening. There was some wait but not bad. Sat down and ordered a Budweiser and was told they don't carry Budweiser and never had. I was amazed by this as I have eaten at this chain before and they all carry Budweiser. That policy needs to change. Ordered a house salad and it was excellent. Ordered the crab cake appetizer for my entree which would have been much better but the sauce was nearly nonexistent. Overall I've eaten at several Pappadeauexs in Texas and this isn't their best store.

Had a Great Dinner

By txtfa001 |

We were up in north Austin because of an early morning Dr. appointment the next day. Our hotel had closed the restaurant because there were so few people in the hotel (the Sunday after Thanksgiving). We decided to go to Paddadeaux and it was a great idea. I had Moroccan salmon which was delicious and my husband had his favorite, fried shrimp. The waiter was friendly and the food arrived quickly. Hadn’t been here in a while and it is as good as ever,

Don’t book a party here

By Hospitality guru |

I made an online reservation for 10 people at 7:15 as there was no option to book a party of 14 online. I understand this is a common practice as I’ve worked many facets of hospitality over the course of my 20 year career. Since one of my guests was unable to attend at the specified time she opted to treat me to a Pappadeaux‘s lunch the same day (the plan was to have Pappadeaux‘s for lunch and dinner). We arrived to lunch and I contacted the host to modify my reservation if possible from 10 to 14 people explaining that I would be back later that evening for my birthday. She amended the reservation, wish me a happy birthday, and then I proceeded to the bar. I ordered a top shelf Cadillac margarita With a heavyTajín rim. Being almost 40 years old, I totally forgot I lost my wallet at the gym two days prior. I explained this to the bartender and ask if I could provide a front and back photo of my drivers license and a copy of my Social Security card. She informed me that she could not serve me without an ID and apologized sincerely. We went back-and-forth for two minutes with no avail so I asked her if I could speak to the manager. She told me the manager was going to say the same thing. (Tacky) I explained the situation to the floor manager and she gave me the most insincere robotic explanation “our company policy won’t allow us to serve you without an ID “ *Their company policy according to the employee handbook that I researched after the event states that they are required to card anybody who looks under 35.**I have a full beard, a receding hairline, and within talking with me for 30 seconds it’s apparent that I am of legal drinking age. I explained to her that I had booked a party of 14 a week ago and was planning to come back for dinner… I’m not sure I want to come here tonight after this disappointing experience on my birthday. With a complete lack of insincerity, she said “ yeah… I’m sorry”. Understandably I was bummed. Realizing it was the day of my party and I already had 14 people arrange their schedule to accommodate my request, I decided not to cancel the reservation. The manager provided no consolation or departure greeting and upon initial greeting I did not receive a smile or a feeling of being welcomed. At 6 PM it was apparent I would be late for my reservation. As a courtesy, I contacted the restaurant via Phone to inform the host of my late arrival. I was connected to the to go phone, told her of my reservation, and was transferred to the host stand. After being on hold for seven minutes I hung up the phone figuring the to go associate had the information necessary to relay the message. My first guest arrived at 7:10 and I asked her to check in for the party so we wouldn’t loose our table. I arrived at 7:45 (As I was 30 minutes delayed from lunch). The hostess informed us that our entire party had to be there in order for us to be seated my friends and I grabbed a drink from the bar (I had my passport) and after my 10th guest arrived I asked if we could be seated. The host submitted the same response and I asked her if we could set the table of 10 now and my last four get a table close to us as I wasn’t sure what time they would arrive. She then informed me it would be a few minutes because our table wasn’t ready yet. *It’s now 8 o’clock and my 715 reservation table was not ready though members of my party had arrived an hour prior. We were escorted to the table in an untimely fashion to find out that we would be sitting in three separate tables. I expressed my disappointment as the whole reason I made a reservation was specifically so that people who didn’t know one another could get to know one another.*I was not informed of this “policy” online/ When I amended the reservation at the restaurant earlier that day/when I arrived at the restaurant/before I was escorted to my table. There was also 2 other parties of 10/12 to my left and my right. I asked to speak to the manager. 10 minutes later the manager came to the table. With the same response. I was never given an explanation as to why that’s the “policy” and at this point extremely disappointed and the level of service received and slightly embarrassed as all of my guest are bartenders, servers, and bar managers. It’s now 8:30 PM and all my guests are starving and as a hospitality professional I wouldn’t allow them to go to the bar and order drinks as I wanted to be certain that our server received all the sales and tips associated with my party. After assessing the situation and scanning my environment I walked to two tables with their closed checkbooks and dirty dishes on the table and asked if they would be leaving soon. They both said yes and I Presented my resolution to the manager which was to occupy the long booth (bistro style should’ve been 3 separate tables with one side booth and the other regular chairs) and have a side table in the same section and be allowed to move about freely. It’s now 8:45 and I’ve lifted the ban for ordering drinks at the bar bc our server wasn’t seasoned enough to handle taking an entire food and bev order in a timely fashion. *we said we were ready for bevs, apps, and food. He informed us he’d go deliver the 3 drinks already ordered, then Put the apps and food in bc we were starving and bring the drinks after. At this point 2 of us go outside with drinks on their gorgeous patio (in which we couldn’t dine) to breathe and chat and get some photos. The night manager comes out and apologizes for everything and offered to comp several appetizers (which was cool, but at this point I’m over it and feel bad my friends had to experience such disorganization, hunger, and wait to get bar drinks just to end up going to the bar).

Great food next door to the Crowne Plaza

By RMW |

First let me say that I'm not a big fan of Cajun cuisine, I find it too manipulated and boring. Having said that, my wife and I were in Austin and wanted a restaurant within walking distance of our hotel so we went to Pappadeaux next door. On a Wednesday night the place was mobbed so we sat at the bar... good idea. Great service from a very friendly and warm bartender. We love oysters on the 1/2 shell but are VERY particular (usually shuck them ourselves or buy them in Normandy France...), but these were great. My wife tried them in a "Rockefeller" style, yummy as well. The calamari was hot, crunchy, and tasty. We have a tendency to stick with apps and that's what we did here. Yes, the place was loud, over-crowded, and crazy but hey, you want quiet? Stay home

Consistently excellent Cajun seafood!

Lucky for me Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen is just down the street from my primary office location so myself and a few colleagues eat lunch their or next door at Papasitoes which is owned by the same Papa’s chain and they are over the top for consistent quality, amazing menu options, daily specials and I guarantee they are second to none.

Dinner With the Cousin

By Carn1vore |

While after a year and fighting through three Nor'Easters we made it back to Austin. After the four hour flight from Newark, we all decided to meet each other at the restaurant. Ordering coconut and stuffed shrimp I was amazed at the size of these shrimp. The baked potatoes were huge. Needless to say, we ate well and I recommend this restaurant. The only problem was we had no room for dessert!

Best place to take a business client to dinner - a bit noisy but the food and quality are tops.

By onevoiceonevote |

Took a business client to dinner, he was very impressed with the food, the service and the atmosphere. Our server was a bit standoffish at first, until she understood that his questions were simply requests for more information because he was not from the United States. Excellent redfish, he had the salmon, and desserts were outstanding. Highly recommended. It tends to get very crowded later in the week, so be sure and call ahead. They don't take reservations unless you have a large party so sue an app like open table to get in line..

After a Long Road Trip This Place Hit the Spot!

By freqtraveler354 |

I had previously traveled over 3,500 miles after going to Ohio and back on my road trip. I was stuck in bumper to bumper five o'clock traffic during a 100 degree day when I saw the Pappadeaux sign! I quickly got off the highway and out of a bad situation and into a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. All the locals were hanging out at the bar and visiting with friends and while I sat by myself felt very welcomed. Everyone around me was talking to me and I had a very attentive waiter. The service was great but the food was even better. I ordered the crispy Atlantic salmon and scallop and every bite melted in my mouth. I had eaten nothing but fast food on my trip until I stopped in here and I was so glad I did. This was the first time I ordered this meal and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys salmon, shrimp, and scallops. Next time I go to a Pappadeaux I will order this same exact dish!

One of my favorite seafood restaurants. I get the sampler platter with shrimp and crawfish over dirty rice. I add a side of gator sauce. Large portions. I never leave hungry. My wife frequently gets the shrimp and grits. The service is impeccable. Been eating there or at the locations in Houston for over 20 years.

On a recent visit to Austin. We stopped at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, it was a very pleasant experience. I have eaten at this Restaurant since it opened many years ago. I am happy to say the quality has not changed. The Salmon Alexander was delicious. So was the Halibut. Applause to the chefs & their continued expertise.

Lots of Food

By Tisbe52 |

Three of us had dinner at Pappadeaux's earlier this month. Wow! We went on a Saturday night and didn't have a reservation; I'm not sure if they take reservations.. It was crowded but the wait was not too long. I'm glad we waited because it was wonderful! I had the Rainbow Trout and Shrimp. Okay, I could have had a few more shrimp - there were only three (I think) but that was mostly fine because the trout was delicious!!! And there was a lot of it!!! A friend had the Crispy Atlantic Salmon and Scallop and she said it was good. I can't remember what the third friend had but she liked hers, too. The place was crowded but that didn't affect our service. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, a really good experience.

This chain never let you down!

Was staying at the Doubletree adjacent and decided to pop in with my colleague as we are both fan's of the chain. we sat at the bar to eat as it was very busy. cocktails and seafood, what's not to like? Great service and the food was well above average! Did I tell I love this chain? LOL

What a horrible disappointment!

For 3 decades Pappadeaux's has been the family choice for B'Days and other celebrations. Their consistency has always been the high standard for restaurants. No more! The catfish fillets were thin and small. The shrimp were under-sized. The catfish grossly over-breaded. Not at all a Pappadeaux's standard. Horror of all horrors the batter was falling off of all the onion rings! Given the large average ticket, thus large average tips, Pappadeaux's should never suffer a 2nd-rate waiter. They should attract only the best of talent. Well Brent started off totally forgetting the complimentary loaf of bread and butter. Then my beer arrived in a bottle withOUT a chilled glass. My girlfriend's platter arrived withOUT the substituted green beans. Then Brent lifted her full platter of fries without even asking if she were through. This visit was more like Luby's (33% owned by Pappas Bros.), than it was Pappadeaux's. NEVER again!

Bad food & high price point

By _tomnguyen001 |

We came in for dinner on Sunday evening. Busy place. For four of us, we ordered a number of dishes to start including the crispy alligator, fried calamari, shrimp & crawfish fondeaux, andouille sausage & seafood gumbo and for dinner, we ordered the mahi & lemon chile crab, salmon alexander, texas redfish ponchartrain & grilled tilapia & lump crab meat. Generally, each of the dishes was salty and the presentation was really poor. The dishes looked like all the ingredients were thrown together and then served. Even when we ordered the salmon to be cooked medium, it came out really well done - cardboard like. Lump crab taste were super bland... Price point is high - about $ 40 per entre. The waitress was rushing us throughout. Truly unpleasant experience & a lot of money :(

Great Overall Value for Fresh Seafood

I kept seeing this place while driving all over Texas for work. I started in Austin, went to Dallas, then Houston, and this place kept popping up. When I mentioned it to my fiancé, the reaction was, "Oh, let's go there, the food is great!" We ended up pulling in for our last meal in Texas before flying home. So glad we chose this place over the other highly rated place we were initially considering. The entire staff was kind and calm (you know some places seem frantic, especially when they are busy). The menu looked great and the service we got from Cody was awesome. I had some unfortunate dietary restrictions at the time, and he was incredibly helpful and offered some specific suggestions and showed me a special menu which was appreciated. Cody was very kind, polite, and attentive, which was a great match for the delicious seafood we were presented. Great atmosphere, great value, fantastic experience. Thank you, Cody!

Awesome food and service

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Pappadeaux's and the entire meal and service was great. I recommend the Blackened Catfish Opeloisas and they make a mean Old Fashioned. Our waitress was about as nice as any waitress we have had in the past and she worked hard to make our evening special. For desert we had the pecan sweet potato pie and creme brulee, which was wonderful. I have eaten at other Pappadeaux restaurants and have never been disappointed.

So So service but great food.

We had a late afternoon dinner with our wait being about 20 minutes. We were seated but our waiter seemed to be preoccupied. Our drinks were not filled and he pass the wrong food to our party. Not real bad but not excellent service. The food was great. I do recommend this restaurant.

Not a typical Pappadeaux

By slaterster03 |

A real mixed bag. Bread was cold and tasted old. Gumbo was outstanding. Fried shrimp was fantastic. Fried crawfish smelled bad and was really tough. I have had the fried crawfish probably a hundred times. Something was really wrong. Service was bad as well. Very unusual experience.

Too noisy and too smelly.

By Ahmed M |

The place is easily accessible from 35 highway, and the staff were very nice. Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. The food was not as good as most other Pappadeauxs. Our salads were brought in without the dressing but when we inquired they apparently put the dressing under the salads! The place needs some fresh air, it has a rather repulsive smell as soon as you walk in. I know it is a seafood place, but it needs better vents or something. It was very noisy in-spite of not being busy. Will not go back unless I hear of a change.

Great Food

Great choice on Super bowl Sunday. Everyone’s food came out hot. The waiter was nice, efficient, and attentive.

Horrible service.

By thomas8l |

Food great as usual but service is getting worse by the day. I came here to eat something and saw a lot of empty tables and I was told that I have to eat at the bar because they have no servers!!!! I said I rather wait for a table and had to wait for over an hour to get a table and then another 10 minutes just to get a glass of water.

Arrived in Austin for a meeting and this restaurant was next to my hotel. WOW so glad I gave it a try. Great place, and service. I enjoyed the pasta with grilled octopus shrimp and scallops. Just wonderful. Shout out to Mario my bartender extraordinaire! I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Not as good as I remembered

By AmgE55 |

It's been a few years since I've been to Pappadeaux, so I thought I'd try it since it has always been pretty consistently good. I had the seafood platter, with the appetizer and bread at the table, I was more than full and the food was still as good as I remembered it. But it took way too long to get in and out of this restaurant because our waitress was inattentive at best and everything too way too long. It was 10 minutes after we sat down before anyone showed up at the table, drink orders and appetizer taken, another 20 minutes went by before she came back to take the dinner order. 7 more minutes had gone by before the bread showed up at the table along with appetizers and drinks, 16 minutes after the dinner showed up. Then I lost count to when she finally showed up with the bill and that took even longer to get processed. What was most aggravating was we were stilling by the wait station by the front door, so we saw as many as 8 waitstaff congregated there sharing food and laughing and talking while we waited patiently for service the entire time. I think Pappa held up its end of the bargain keeping their food consistent, but in the meantime, service expectations have increased across the industry and it would appear they have not kept that up. I only had so many meals in Austin on this trip. I wished I had gone somewhere else.

A Must Restaurant for Lunch or Dinner

By willimonj |

We were visiting with friends in TX, so they took us to Pappadeaux’s for lunch. The Greek Salad prepared at the table was fresh, crisp and delicious. The Shrimp PoBoy was served on fabulous fresh bread. The Lobster Bisque was creamy yummy. The Trout topped with shrimp over a bed of spinach was beautifully prepared.

Another Cajun Wanna-Be Falls Short

By caveatactor |

Don't know why people pretend to Cajun-Creole-south Louisiana when they don't have a clue..... like this Pappadeaux place. The architecture of the place is more like a Disney knock off than any actual Louisiana roadhouse or restaurant; imagine an explosion of all the more stereotypical features anyone could dream up without ever actually visiting.... Servers are a pretentious bunch of overgrown kids--beware if you speak with a true Louisiana accent--they'll turn their noses up faster than a no-see-um can get you. The food--reading others' reviews I wonder--have these poor folks ever even HAD good Louisiana food? MY gumbo wasn't gumbo--it was some kind of imitation crab and faked crawfish stew--but not good enough for etouffee. And who ever told chefs that all you need to 'Cajunize' is a liberal hand with the salt and pepper shakers?! Also tried their gator bits; don't know if there was any gator in there or not: what I got was deep fat fried breading with Thousand Island Dressing (which they called remoulade. I don't THINK so!) My main course was muddy tasting catfish; obviously farmed (not wild caught); obviously past its prime; and obviously (to any who get REAL Louisiana catfish) destined for my hotel's trash bin. NOT worth the money to me. NOT worth a repeat visit.

Wonderful meal!

Great customer service. Huge portions. All food cooked perfectly from steaks to fish to fried soft shell crab.

Terrible service!

By Enrique M |

The place is almost empty and they keep making people wait outside with no reason. The service is terrible and common sense seems to be absent in this place.

Travelers, right off I-35, this is an OUTSTANDING place for Lunch and Dinner!

By Bud B |

Travelers, right off I-35, this is an OUTSTANDING place for Lunch and Dinner! Like other Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchens, this one is truly outstanding! Can't go wrong if you are looking for Cajon food or seafood. Oh, and the bartenders make great cocktails!

THE FRIED PLATTER IS YUM YUM

By Terri V |

My date and I split the fried seafood platter. It had FRIED shrimp, catfish, oysters, STUFFED shrimp and crab. The seafood was served on a bed of French fries. I don't recall getting hushpuppies. We also split the Classis Ceasar salad. The platter was enough to feed two adults, and we still had leftovers. The martini was on the small side. We were hoping for raw oysters on the half shell. Our server told us due go Covid, they couldn't AFFORD a Shucker. Awe Shucks.

Just average, overrated and expensive

I found myself at a hotel just across the street from this place and as much as I didn't want to go here, it was close and convenient. There is one near my home in Denver that I have been too but do not love. My experience at this outpost was about the same, except the food was not great at this one. I went later on a Saturday night, the place was still pretty busy. There were plenty of open tables. I asked to be seated and the hostess said 10 minutes, I asked why since I could see the open clear tables, to which she again said 10 minutes. She left to seat someone else and the other hostess greeted me and immediately sat me, when I told her that the other hostess had said ten minutes she just shook her head. I ordered salmon which came with one scallop and two shrimp. To this, I added dirty rice and a Caesar. The Caesar was really good and the side of dirty rice was good too. My salmon was way undercooked for my liking. The server didnt ask me what temp I wanted it and I didn't specify, my bad there. Still, the server never came back to check on me, so I ate most of it, it was not warm and was undercooked for my liking. Two strikes. The sauce which it was in was quite good and the shrimp were good, the scallop not quite cooked right and again, not hot. Service was ok, not particularly friendly or efficient. It took a while to get my check and a while longer to pay/get my credit card back. It was just an ok experience at best. I cannot recommend. Austin is such a good food town, with usually great service. I will seek out other places in future visits.

Excellent food every visit

We try to visit a Pappa's restaurant at least once a month where ever we travel or in our home town. The shrimp gumbo and wedge salad are excellent. And you can't resist the fresh out of the oven bread with real butter. The crawfish - fried or etouffee is also delicious when in season.

Birthday Dinner

By Renee Marie |

I was taken here for birthday dinner and I was not disappointed. This place felt nostalgic and what nice seafood/steakhouses used to feel like. The outdoor space felt high end without being pretentious. Our server was incredible. We were able to enjoy our drinks, appetizers and dinner without feeling rushed. The rainbow trout was some of the best I've had in years.
