Good for groups, late dinner

By WandWoman |

A group of twenty visited this restaurant for a late dinner on a Friday night. It is difficult to find a good location around 9pm with fresh food. Pappa's handles this problem well since it doesn't close until 10pm. The menu has the traditional BBQ offerings of most similar restaurants. One stellar item is the huge baked potato that you can get loaded with chopped beef. It easily can be split for two people or for a take-home next day meal. An additional item is a cheeseburger, cooked to order. Usually this is very good. But, for some reason, we were not asked what we wanted on our sandwich. It came with mustard, mayo, pickles, lettuce and tomato. YUCK!!! We have always fixed our burger at the condiment bar with only lettuce and tomato. By the time we got our meal and discovered the mistake it was too late to fix the problem. I don't know if this is a new procedure or just an employee error. But we will be certain to clarify our order from now on. The accompanying French fries are outstanding. They are large, fresh-cut, and cooked to crispy perfection. There are plenty of tables to accommodate a large group. The order-at-the-counter procedure works well, especially for late diners. Service is quick and friendly, perfect for hungry adults.

GOOD TEXAS "Q"

By Hiker1942 |

Had a great lunch at Pappas Bar-B-Q. Have not been to one in many years, and the only thing that has changed is the prices are higher. Wonderful meats and great sides to match, including country style veggies. This is not sit down service, go to the counter and see what your ordering. I made the mistake of getting a large plate instead of the regular. Way to much food on the large plate. Try the smoked sausage....it was great!

A delightful romantic BBQ meal

By BENelson |

On a rainy afternoon; our 2nd day in Dallas, wet and hungry we pulled into Pappas Bar-BQ. Cafeteria style service (not my favorite kind) is how you order your food. This cabin on steroids hosts a very woodsy interior that suited the down pour we escaped just fine. We chose the covered / outdoor patio as our seating destination, and were the only people seated in that area. My wife, who does not usually eat pork, ordered the pull pork sandwich, and I ordered the bacon cheese burger. Once my wife discovered the delightful BBQ sauce she was in chuckwagon heaven. She absolutely loved her sandwich and could not stop talking about it between each bite she took. I on the other had have had better Texas burgers, but the hickory smoked bacon gave the burger just the extra kick it needed. (maybe I should have put some of the BBQ sauce on my burger). Together we spent nearly two hours eating our lunch and watching this area of Dallas blanketed with rain. It was a very romantic repast to say the least in this welcomed shelter from the strom that just happens to serve great, great food.

still the place to beat for awesome pork ribs and brisket beef

By Bill W |

Located on NW Highway just W of I-35, this only Dallas location of this Houston institution serves up incredibly seasoned & meaty pork ribs and tender sliced brisket beef (you typically get a mix of moist and lean). You can order your meats by the pound or as part of special platters. Also lots of different sides to choose from - to include my favorites cucumber salad and macaroni pasta salad. Lots of dine-in seating or order it to go.

Good ole BBQ

By Kennyraybob |

I have always liked Pappas BBQ, the food is good, the service is always excellent. They have a good selection of side dishes and desert. You go through a line to pick what you want. One of the better BBQ places in Texas.

Great!

By rockstar89 |

Great BBQ esp. for cafeteria style dining. We went right before they were closing and it was still great. We had chicken, pulled pork and beef & baby back ribs. All were good. Sides were a bit mushy, but we went for the meat!

Mmm, Chopped beef baked potato

By Nv8200p |

I love the large baked potato with butter and cheese and topped with chopped beef. Throw some BBQ sauce and sour cream on it, and I'm in heaven until I realize I ate too much and I'm so stuffed!

great food great service

By tim w |

Went in no crowd, very fast service, food was excellent, we all had different things and shared back and forth, great atmosphere, great friendly staff. We will be back

First time visit - Good choice!

By jennreeves1970 |

Although a little confusing how to start when you get there, the staff was friendly & walked us through how to order down the cafeteria style line. Amount of food was good & it tasted great. I'm a barbecue snob, and I'd go back. Atmosphere would be fun for a group.

Texas BBQ

By Cal S |

I'm sure there are locals that will rebut this review, but as a midwesterner this is what I image Texas BBQ is. Huge portions, delicious side items and a condiment bar that is unreal.

Really Awesome BBQ

By Jared K |

Brothers Pete and Jim Pappas have been serving up a variety delicious food options since 1967, offering everything from steak and seafood to Mexican and Greek. Each branch of the Pappas restaurant empire has its own appeal, but what I love most is their barbecue. At Pappas, you can dine in, grab your 'que to go, or make a quick pass through the drive-thru. Today I decided to eat there and enjoy the atmosphere. I caught the scent of magnificent pit smoke as soon as I stepped out of my truck. Mmmm..... There were a lot of excellent options to choose from, but I settled on their Two Sliced Meat Combo: Czech sausage (heck yeah!) and brisket, with potato salad and macaroni and cheese on the side. I had originally considered getting the yams as one of my side dishes, but the big gooey shells and cheese looked too good to resist. I ended up with a huge helping of mustard potato salad. It had a fantastic amount of crunch to it from all the veggies. There was also a surprisingly high degree of flavor, with just a slight hint of heat on the back end. Just as I suspected, the mac and cheese was awesome. The jumbo-size shells were perfect for cradling cheesy goodness inside. Both meat offerings looked amazing, but I decided to start with the sausage. The menu touted this as Czech sausage, and it definitely had the cracked black pepper and coarse grind that is reminiscent of Central Texas. This is the kind of sausage I grew up inhaling on a regular basis. No sauce was needed here, and I didn't even try adding it for fear of ruining perfection. My brisket had a nice amount of bark to it, and was tender and juicy throughout. It had excellent flavor inside and out which went far beyond the typical salt and pepper. There was a very pronounced red smoke ring penetrating deep below the crust. I found a nice amount of smoke in each bite, made all the more prevalent by the well-rendered fat content. Most barbecue joints tend to have their best stuff available for lunch around 11:00 or 12:00. I was initially worried that coming to Pappas during the dinner hour would affect the quality of the 'que. Not at all. Read my full review, complete with pictures: Search "The Barbecue Fiend"

Wow… How The Pappas Crew Has Slipped!

By deep_in_Dallas |

had a 1/2 pound of brisket and 1/2 pound of beef sausage. It was simply inedible. While they gave me nearly a pound of brisket, it was so fatty as to be completely anything other than gelatinous - only the bark was remotely chewable - it made me quit after 3 bites. The beef sausage was worse - I tried it with and without sauce. I actually spit it out and tossed the rest of the container. A $22 lesson learned….

The Beef Brisket Tamales Use to be Delicious but they are Terrible NOW!!!

By BUSAMAN007 |

Pappas BBQ needs to stick to BBQ and Stop making Beef Brisket Tamales cause this is my 2nd batch of bad tamales that are mostly Masa (Corn Dough) with very little meat! My 1st batch I purchased from them 2 Dozen tamales which cost $29.90 about 3 months ago were so dried out with very little meat.I order that many cause I have had beef brisket tamales in the past while dinning at Pappas Bbq and they were delicious! So If you find something that's delicious and you want to show people how good they are only to be let down isn't acceptable in my opinion! I went back to Pappas BBQ a month or so later but the manager Told him about it and he said it must of been something wrong with old manager to serve old out dated ones so I said ok but still wasn't sold on what he said! So I took a break from getting them. Now I returned to Pappas BBQ on 3/19/17 at 10:14 Am on Sunday Ordered 2 Dozen Beef Brisket Tamales thinking that they would be delicious but I was so wrong! The manger who works at this location came from Pappas Burger In Fort Worth Tx and assured me that these tamales who be better! Then suggested me to keep them in plastic and warm them in Microwave So they keep the moisture inside of them well he was wrong! Dried out once again Very little meat and the meat was just on 1/4 of tamale What am I paying for Masa Corn Dough ? Cause that's what it seems like cause I'm getting very little meat inside of them... I enjoy eating at this Pappas BBQ cause it's good food and I have never had any issues here but I will never order the Beef Brisket Tamales in large quantity again..The quality control isn't there...GOOD FOOD OUTSIDE OF BEEF BRISKET TAMALES!!! That's $60 worth of Terriable Beef Brisket Tamales or Should I say Masa Corn Dough Tamales!!!! Never again waste of money!!!! Don't order more then two at a time and eat them there in case there is a issue!!!

Great place to get BBQ in Dallas!

By Laura R |

I ordered the chopped beef Po-Boy and "boy" was it good! They offer 3 sauces to top with . . . I used a mix of the original sweet and the espresso version . . . the sauce was amazing, and the whole sandwich was exactly what I was looking for. An authentic Texas BBS experience. The fries were good as well, large and potato-ey. Service was friendly, and fountain drinks and tea were Texas-style as well-- large! Nice wild west decor, you could eat inside or out. Perfect way to end our quick trip to Dallas!

There's Better in Big D

By RupertUGA |

Recently had a business lunch there and maybe we should have arrived later to get better food. The sausage and pulled pork were okay, nothing special. My two sides were almost the same cold temperature, but that is not good for cole slaw and green beans. There are better BBQ restaurants in Big D. Several of us also commented on the BBQ sauce because it is very thin almost like soup.

Nothing special here

By TTaylordoc |

Admittedly, I'm a barbecue snob, but doggone it, beef ribs are supposed to fall off the bone -- not require a knife to cut the meat off! And the beans are pretty awful. There's a whole lot better than this in the DFW area!

Good solid Texas BBQ

By Rocky M |

Whenever I drive back and forth from Dallas to Houston I always try to make a stop for BBQ at the location in the Woodlands, Everything I have had has always been cooked properly (which is not always the case at BBQ places) and very flavorful. I especially like their rib plate where you get to try several different types of ribs. It is a huge plate of food so you better be hungry!

Great Food

By Ayala1234 |

We came to this restaurant with some friends that have eating there before, and they were right the BBQ was excellent, I had a whole slab of ribs and my wife brisket. we'll definitely return to eat BBQ.

Lunch while in Dallas area.

By Angela_bedford |

We had heard about this place and their great barbecue . it lived up to its hype. The lunch portions were great I enjoyed the chicken and pulled pork , for side - I had some greens that were wonderful . The line moves along quickly after you choose your meat and sides and move on to check out. They have several different sauces that you can choose from to put on your barbecue I hope you enjoy it also.

So much good BBQ in Dallas but....

By Penny J |

This is NOT it. Save yourself the trouble and eat at Taco Bell across the street. I have tried it twice hoping that my first pass was just a mistake. The food is bad. There is no ambiance and the service is nonexistent. Not what I would expect for a Pappas family restaurant.

An below average Texas bbq

By alsolution |

Visited on a Sunday afternoon (btw most of the good bbq close on Sunday) that the reason when there. I ordered the mixed platter that consist of pull pork, beef brisket, 1 ribs, ham and sausage. The meats was cold, overcook and hard. Sausage extremely salty. The bbq sauce too vinagery. However the place is clean and have a lot other choices. A fixing bar is a available for burgers

Great chopped beef sandwich

By mshbnyehud |

I went to Pappa's for a quick late lunch, around 2 PM when it was virtually was empty. Service couldn't have been better or faster and high quality barbecue beef. It was very tasty, just the right amount tangy BBQ sauce. Barbecue beans on the side were delicious as well. I can't wait to go back.

OK BBQ

By Mark A. |

Stopped here on a recommendation from the hotel staff. Large venue, lots of items to choose from. I had the pork trio, which is pork ribs, pulled pork and pork sausage. The ribs were large, but a little dry. The pulled pork was very good. The sausage, though tasty, was very dry as if it had been sitting in a warmer since lunchtime. The BBQ sauce was good, helped cover the dryness. For the two sides, I had a lettuce salad and a pasta/pea salad. The lettuce salad was bigger than I had expected with a lot of dressing, which I like. The pasta salad was OK. Overall, the portions at this place are huge. I just wish the meat was not so dry.

Always good food.

By Patrick O |

What can I say sometimes you need something beside BBQ. This time the wife and I both tried there stuffed baked potato's. And a nice big glass of sweet iced tea. Let me say this these are nice sized baked potato's. Not the little two - three inch ones that are passed off at at the big fancy restaurants as baked potato's. Is all I can say is they are a meal by themselves.

It's Ok, but there's better in DFW

By CMYKirk |

Met a friend for lunch one day since it was approximately halfway. I love good BBQ and eat it quite often. Papa's was acceptable, the meat moist and the sauce good. I had the lunch special which consisted of Chicken and 2 ribs, 2 sides and a large piece of bread. The chicken was not what I expected... a leg and thigh, however it tasted pretty darn good. I would have preferred a white meat breast. The ribs were fairly large and they also tasted good, contained an adequate amount of meat, but they were not St.Louis cut... lots of cartilage. Their sauce is nice and thick (sticks to the meat) and had nice flavor as well, just sweet enough. There was a nice variety of sides and the ones I had, green beans and cole slaw, were good. The service is non existent, you order from a line and get your own utensils, napkins, condiments and sauce from a condiment bar, and find your own table. Pretty simple, quick and easy. Get extra napkins, the chicken and ribs were messy eatin'! There was no line at noon, but it seems it would move quickly if there were. The special was listed on the board at $12.95, by the time they added a huge iced tea and tax, it totaled $16.69. Not too bad for BBQ and plenty of food. This is not my favorite BBQ joint, but it will do fine when in the area and BBQ is called for.

Great Ribs

Great smoked ribs and BBQ chicken. Ample servings and both were nice and moist. We would reccomend to anyone that likes BBQ

Drive-thru Time Freeze!

By Eric E |

I just spent 35 minutes, in the drive through, to get a pull pork sandwich, fries, and carrot cake. There was a single vehicle ahead of me. When I arrived at the intercom, I was asked to wait. Approximately 18 minutes later, I placed my order. I sat at the intercom for another 7 minutes before the single vehicle received their order and drove away. I paid for my order and waited another 11 minutes before receiving it. Received the comment of have a good night. This is the last time I will patron this location.

Lunch

By Buddy B |

Brisket is excellent ! Sauce is the worst I've had in Dallas ! Ribs were bad but not as bad as other's in Dallas . Huge French Frys were awesome . Higher score would have came but ribs and sauce killed the grade . Get the brisket w frys !! Taste great with no sauce but if you must sauce take your own !

A nice BBQ joint near our hotel.

By thelooker |

We went here today because we felt like we wanted BBQ in the city so we went to this one near our hotel (Holiday Inn Express). They didn't seem to have brisket on the menu unlike one reviewer said. I had a half slab of baby back ribs and cole slaw, they were nicely prepared. What I really enjoyed was the atmosphere; you really felt like you were in Texas. I had a soft drink and my 2 party members had beer; they liked it and I liked my drink. We would definitely recommend.

Good Texas Barbeque

By mtcreek |

A new Pappas Bar-B-Q just opened in South Dallas on US 67. People have flocked to it! Tables almost completely filled all day long, as well as long lines at the drive through. The meat is delicious, the portions huge, a vast array of side dishes to choose from, as well as different sauces at the condiment bar. This restaurant is very casual and folks seem to like it that way. I prefer being seated and served, but I still enjoyed the good food.

Big fan

By Angela |

I am not a big fan of Texas bbq sauce since I am from Memphis and prefer a sweet bbq sauce instead. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and cole slaw. First of all, the sandwich was HUGE, something that surprised me since most bbq sandwiches are on the smaller side. It was piled high with the most tender pulled pork I have ever had. The cole slaw was a perfect addition to my sandwich and was so moist that I didn’t even try the bbq sauce. Others at the table raved about the brisket and although it was my first experience with Pappas, my son is a frequent customer there. Highly recommend!

Great Casual Dining

By rermiami |

One of my favorite places to dine when I visit Dallas is Pappas. This place is so good!! They serve very hearty portions and their hot BBQ sauce is fantastic. You won't leave hungry when you visit Pappas, as a matter of fact, you'll probably leave with a take out bag. Try their amazing stuffed bake potatoes. They stuff it with any kind of BBQ meat. Bet you can't finish one. Great place to take your children.

They Have Great Burgers Too ! They are not on menu you have to ask.... Oh home cut frys are best crispy..... .

Worst ever

By Mark Y |

Worst I ever ate, or tried to eat. Waste of money. Spent $35.00 on meal that I couldn't eat. Tasted like they boiled the meat before cooking. I am a Native Texan born in Dallas so I know goid BBQ and they don't have it.

Good “Texas” BBQ

By Bob S |

Pappa’s was recommended by a local friend. We ordered ahead and picked up. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was very tasty. Price was pretty good, although I’m not so sure the “family meal” that we got would feed 3-4 as listed. But overall, we were satisfied with everything.

Disappointed in Pappas BBQ

By Jody S |

I love Pappadeaux & the Pappacitas, but when I tried the BBQ today, it didn't hit the mark. The chopped beef sandwich was pretty fatty & the taste was just average. I tried the green beans & they were tasteless. I love navy beans, so I tried theirs & there wasn't much flavor here either. Many more BBQ places in the DFW area are much better than this restaurant. I would skip this one & to go Pappadeaux anyday & other BBQ places in the area that are much better.

Bbq After a Football Game

By thekidwonagain |

We went to this bbq joint after a football game. We had a gift card that needed to be used from Christmases ago. Heard some good things about this place. We arrived about 5pm. You could smell the smoke from a block away to get your taste buds going. There was a handful of people in the place. The three of us ordered food and was in our hands in minutes from counter ordering. It was $23 a head with drinks, No beer is served in this place, Bummer. The food looked very good and looked like big portions. I had 2 pork ribs, brisket, and ranch beans and potato salad. The ribs tasted alright. The brisket was also tasty but had fat webbed between the fibers of meat, which I didn't care for. The sides need a little more zip to them but also alright. The place was very large and clean. The staff was friendly. Would I eat there again. To close to called on that.

Average

By grwooda |

I had been told that the food is very good here, but I found it to be only average. Not a place that I would recommend to someone seeking a barbeque "fix"!

Best BarBQ I've Had

By seniortraveler31924 |

On a short trip to Dallas I was hungry for some good bar-b-q but didn't have much hope of finding anyplace convenient to my hotel. Of all coincidences, I was visiting a museum and asked one of the workers at the museum if they could recommend a restaurant near my hotel. Lo and behold their face lit up and they recommended Pappa's Bar-B-Q, which was less than a mile from our hotel and easy to get to. Today was my lucky day, I ordered the brisket and baby back ribs, for sides I had the lima beans and macaroni and cheese. Oh my gosh, the food was to die for!! The best brisket and ribs I've had, and generous servings. All the employees were cheerful and very well trained. As I sat in the restaurant savoring my meal I wondered...'Would I come thousands of miles to Dallas for more of this bar-b-q?" I would be tempted. Definately recommend this restaurant, and if I'm in the area I'll be back!

Love Pappas other restaurants, but this one operates differently and I'm not a fan

By travelmakesUrich |

Pappasito's is a must-do for me, and I don't even like Mexican food, so I thought for sure I'd like Pappas Bar-B-Q. Not so. Very different set up here. You grab a tray and go through a cafeteria-type line, where they make your plate as you order (no time to really peruse a menu - it's on the wall), you take your food to the register and pay, and then you find yourself a table. It was our first time, and no one really bothered to help us out in terms of knowing all this. There's a condiments bar where you can add things like sauce and sour cream, and a giant drinking water dispenser, but we had to find all of that out on our own. A security guard was standing in the doorway the entire time we were there, but I think the restaurant's money would have been better spent on a host/hostess to guide newcomers through the process (or even welcome and assist oldcomers?) Husband had a mixed plate with several types of meat, and enjoyed it, and I had a massive baked potato with pulled pork and cheese. Both plates were portions too big for us to finish in one sitting, and the food was good - although this is Texas, so there wasn't really any doubt about that. If not for the lack of service, I'd have given it 4 stars, but for me it was too much money for a do-it-yourself type restaurant.

Just average food

By Gaylan M |

I am generally a fan of all of the Pappas different restaurants. The BBQ restaurant was somewhat of a disappointment. I had heard that the beef sausage was good so I tried it. While it was good, I can't say it was great. Portions were generous. Sauce was good too. Not the best Q I've ever had but good enough to go back and try something me thing else.

Huge portions

By Mamajill |

Food was good portions were huggggge! Wasn't fond of the chicken at all but the ribs were amazing! Got a salad as one of my sides and it was huge! Staff is friendly!

Great meat...sides are a carboholics dream

By brentp999 |

We eat here every couple weeks because it is close to our office. I usually prefer lean brisket which is excellent, but on the last few trips I have gotten the half chicken. It is freshly smoked with great flavor. My only complaint is that sometimes they are pretty small for a half chicken. It is chopped into pieces so you feel like you have a lot, but sometimes there is not much white meat. I stay away from their chicken breast as it seems to have preservatives that give me a migraine. Their sides are also great if you don't mind the calories or the carbs. The most notable may be the huge serving of fresh fried steak fries. There is plenty for two people. However, if you are watching calories or carbs, the only option is a side salad which is pretty large for a side salad and very fresh.

An awesome meal, again and again!

By JoePCBoard |

We go to this BBQ Place almost weekly. The food is consistently very delicious, and the staff is always on the top of their game! Gloria waits on us most often. She is super friendly and makes suggestions for new items to make our experience enjoyable. I actually got take out tonight, and enjoyed the food immensely!

Good Barbeque

By Jerry M |

Of all the Pappa's Brothers restaurants this may be my least favorite but it is still pretty good. This is typical BBQ but not the best around. Plenty of choices and sides. This is also the only place that I know of in town to get beef ribs. Service is cafeteria style and they also have a drive through. This rocks on a Sunday for calling ahead and just driving through to pick up.

Good Texas BBQ

By ShStSt |

A really good Texas bar-be-que option. Like the family of Pappadeaux, Pappasito's, etc. this restaurant is a very good family dining option.

Nothing to see here folks, keep on moving

By chellers2 |

Bland meats, cold side dishes and bad sauce are offered in a cafeteria style setting. We went here off of our past experience with the Pappa family of restaurants. This one is disappointing and will not be visited again.

Good not great

By flatfootfoodie |

This is a chain, so the expectations weren't too high. Suffice it to say they met my expectations. The beans were eh, the cole slaw was eh, and the brisket (although smoked nicely) lacked some tenderness. The flavor of the beef was nice, but that's where the goodness ended for me. Live local and need a lunch spot? This will work.

More food than you can handle..

By Ken J |

We went to Pappas 2231 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75220, for lunch -- total of 8 of us-- and the burgers are two hands full. A single is 2 patties and a double is 4. I ordered the Ham Sandwich and there was more than 2 slabs of meet on this sandwich, which was more than expected. But the fries are thick so they were not entirely done, and one of our party was ahead of that and ordered his fries extra crispy. The manager tried to make the meal work out when there was a mistake and one of our party got a double w cheese --they ordered a single without cheese-- and the another had ordered a double without cheese. The meal was delivered wrong and when they remade the meals, the double without cheese was delivered and was a single. So there was some angst this trip, but we will be back, as this was not the normal outcome -- having to send food back that was prepared wrong.

Disappointing

By Darin S |

Brisket just acceptable, ribs excessively charred on the ends and tough. Staff couldn't care less that we were there. Overall unimpressive.

Huge portions, tasty

By Robert G |

Pork sausage was very tasty. Smoked turkey was a little dry. Green beans very tasty, as were the collared greens. Nice large selection, nice condiment bar (jalepinos, pickles, onions, pico, etc). Fresh and filled up. Neat restaurant, old drive through so outside is neat. Very nice service.

Big lunches and fast turnaround

By Roger P |

Lots of seating and great selections. BBQ is consistently good, and the burgers excellent. Side orders of fries & onion rings are tasty and big). Salads large and inexpensive...with meat, less than $10. Fixings bar is good (onions, pico de Gallo, jalapenos, cherry peppers, pickles, bacon bits, etc...). If you are in a rush, you won't wait long for food. Great Western BBQ atmosphere. Sauce has a hint of molasses. I frequent regularly.

Real upscale take-out/buffet with a twist

By gadaboutsX2 |

During a four-night stay in Dallas, we discovered Pappas restaurants conveniently clustered just off the interstate and en route to the convention center. During our stay we decided to enjoy each of the four restaurants for dinner. Pappas Bar B Q was our second night choice. It provided a sharp contrast to Pappadeaux from the previous night. The cafeteria buffet is set as if in a farmhouse and offers a visual delight. So many choices and so reasonably priced... Everyone in our group from age 7 to 80 enjoyed the evening. We'd go back often if we lived in Dallas. Fresh idea; excellent food.

Drive thru

By JJarrell1320 |

I was in a hurry after getting off of work. I drive by here quite often heading to Irving. I decided to grab take out for my husband and I. I was surprised as pulling into the back parking area to see a drive thru. So, forget getting out! The ordering and pick up at the window was just a few minutes. Since I never tried this bbq place, a little skepticism ensued. Once I got home and ate my brisket, yes it was the best bbq I have had. We all have our own personal likes and dislikes but, I give this five star because I could see the smoke ring and every bite was flavorful. Every other bbq restaurant I have eaten at in Texas doesn't come close for me as for flavor and tenderness. It is large so a great choice on busy Friday or Saturday evenings.

In Steep Decline

By SouthernTrifecta |

I recall when this place opened - it was fresh, meat was trimmed well and served perfectly. Having lived in Houston and eaten at the original, I expected it would continue to thrive. Last night they really dropped the ball. Fries were saturated in oil...the brisket I was served on my poorboy was two thick slices with lots of fat in it. The place was in need of a thorough cleaning, the a/c was too cold, fans were at high speed (literally blowing napkins off the tables! Some of the side dishes appeared to be in pretty good shape at the counter, but the rest f it was a real disappointment...after twenty plus years I am done....too many alternatives.

Quick & tasty BBQ eats!

By Scott E |

Stopped in for lunch with a customer, cafeteria style place with a cool divey feel. Food was great and reasonably priced. Would go back.

Good BBQ

By RawhideBunch |

My wife and I go through times where we want some good smoked meat and Pappa's is a great choice. They offer both Beef and pork ribs so you have a choice. The brisket is always flavoful and the sides are tasty. We like to sit out on the patio when the weather is nice, but inside is great when the weather is bad.

Good BBQ

By Mork001 |

Counter to place your orders and all plates prepared there and then. Really enjoyed the food. The family had a variety of things and there was not a morsel left on anyone’s plate. Beers and sodas are at very reasonable prices. Plenty of seating, parking and quieter this time of year.

Average BBQ

By Bluehcky |

We had a group of six that had an early dinner here. This is a cafeteria style BBQ restaurant where you go through the line to get you food. We all had different meals including ribs, brisket, ham, sausage, and pulled pork, we all thought it was ok but nothing special

Yup

By monica_k840 |

Excellent! True Texas bbq. The portions are huge. The flavors addictive. Definitely a place to revisit.

Nothing fancy but great food

By Norjeff2 |

Organized a work dinner for 25 people. With such a big party, the restaurant was able to seat no problem as the place is enormous. Great part is everyone orders for themselves so you do not have to worry about splitting the check. I had the combo brisket and pulled pork. It came with two sides. I had the green beans which were grilled and cooked perfectly. I also had the dirty rice which was also very good. On to the meats, the brisket was perfect. Tender and full of flavor. The pulled pork was also cooked well with a smoky flavor. It is a lot of food for $19. Some colleagues had the ribs and loved them. Place is order cafeteria style and is not fancy but was a really great meal.

GREAT Bar B Q!

By awillia3 |

I love this BBQ place! The food here is fresh and GREAT!!! My favorite thing is the LARGE stuffed baked Potato! YOU MUST TRY THIS! The meat is tender and the sauce is GOOD! I highly reccommend PAPPAS BBQ!

Another fantastic Pappas property

By Jon U |

Great BBQ, always excellent quality food! Have had the same in Houston and is really really fantastic BBQ, gives other BBQ places a run for the money.

Pretty good BBQ!

By Tracy R |

We had the sliced brisket. It was tender & had a pretty good flavor. The potato salad was very good, as was the mac & cheese. We would definitely eat here again when we are in Dallas.

Pappas BBQ - Dallas

By Mike-Landon |

Stopped here with wife on the way back from the Dallas Airport - She wasn't hungry for BBQ and a got a small piece of Pecan Pie. Her pie proved to be a little old and dried out. I ask for the lunch special BBQ - Though at 2 p.m. that menu item may have been closed?. It was a pretty busy place but strangely I had to point to the menu - The cook didn't understand me - and when I got to the cashier she ask me what I had purchased and I told her and again pointed to the menu. I paid for our lunch and the printout showed (except for the Pecan Pie) something different than what I ordered. It was a fairly clean place at a busy intersection. A little tricky getting to it but there seemed to be ample parking. The BBQ meat was pretty good.

Melt in Your Mouth Brisket

By Lauri M |

We went here today for our end of the year car club meeting. Since we had a lot of people, the line was pretty long, but the food made it well worth the wait. My husband ordered the brisket plate with green beans and potato salad, I got the turkey breast po’ boy sandwich (which is just a huge hunk of toasted French bread with meat piled on top, no toppings) with sweet tea to drink (perfectly brewed). The turkey breast was excellent and my husband’s brisket just melted in your mouth. I tried both the sweet bbq sauce and the tangy mustard bbq sauce, both were really good. Prices were on par with other bbq places. I would recommend it.

Simply the BEST!!!

By Antonio B. |

Instead of spending money, needlessly, on fluff, they invest in top-notch meats & ingredients to produce the BEST bbq in Dallas!!!

Good enough BBQ

By davechri |

If I could, I'd give this 3.5 stars. But I'll round up. The BBQ was pretty good. I had pork ribs (they were great) and brisket (also good). Add black-eyed peas and ranch beans and you have a solid meal. Good enough place to get BBQ when you're looking for it.

Big-Bad Potato

By Craig D |

Pretty darn good BBQ, the brisket baked potatoes are some kind of mutant humongous tasty things. Beans are good, nice selection of sides. They have some melon drink that's so good it will ruin your appetite. The pecan pie is a must-have. I can never eat it all, but they have to-go boxes.

Kinda Bland, not what a Texas and an Oklahoman expect from BBQ

By Sheryl J |

I found the food rather bland, I would hate for a visitor to the Great State of Texas think this is what Dallas has to offer for BBQ. Sonny Bryants, Dickies or even Springcreek is a much better choice although not as good as the tiny now chain hole in the wall places are the best.

Not Impressed at All

By steve75238 |

BBQ was VERY fatty and pretty tasteless. Sauce was terrible. And it was very overpriced! Took over 10 minutes to get 2 plates when there was only 1 other occupied table who were already eating in the whole place.

Amazing Bar-B-Q

By stuartled |

I can’t say enough good things about this place. It looks like something out of the Old West and is huge. You go up to the counter and order and they get your food and you bring it back to your table. My wife had the beef rib platter which had four juicy and delicious bones. I had the three meat sampler of brisket, beef sausage and a beef rib. It was an amazing Texas BBQ experience.

Its not bad, but there are better options

By Scott Charles |

I have eaten here many times over the years, its decent BBQ, but nothing special. The quality is solid and sauces are good. The meat is lean and well-smoked, but the sides leave something to be desired. I like Hard Eight or Sammy's better

Good eating

By Patrick O |

Large varity of food to chose from. Deserts, side dishs, cold drinks or beer. My meal was a sliced brisket sandwich, french fries, and sweet ice tea. The sandwich and fries will fill a grown man that walked in hungry. Free refills on the ice tea.

Good BBQ at a reasonable price

By Bill H |

This is your typical Texas BBQ, lot's of meat, good sides. I really liked the cucumber and onion salad. They have a huge condiment bar. Reasonabley priced, three of us had dinner for under 50 bucks. To order your food, you grab a tray and move down a line ordering what you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Great Service!

By Velvet C |

The food was great. Definitely worth going to. The employees were better than great. So this is a must!

BBQ done right

By Brian F |

Happened upon this place by chance. The food was delicious and the service was fast. They got this right. Will visit again when I am back in town

Texas BBQ

By 007BigBlue |

First time visit recently with business colleagues on a Monday night. The place was not busy at all and at 6 we were the only ones in line to order. It is like the old school Buffett style where they fill your plates and hand them to you and you carry the tray. The meats are sliced to order and the beans and corn sides we had were all good. They have many many sides to offer. I have to say all the combo meats we tried were pretty good and we would stop again for sure. Nice work..

Absolutely Delicious!

By Megan M |

Stopped here for a business lunch, it was inexpensive, huge portions, wonderful service, and delicious food! I got the rib & pork special and watermelon water! I got a refill of the drink because it was the best I’ve had!

This is Fast Casual, Not Real Barbecue

By BeachLizard_JM |

There's nothing really wrong with Pappas Bar-B-Q. The dining area is clean and built to look like a traditional, roadside Texas barbecue establishment. As such you can find typical Texas barbecue dishes and sides, right down to the condiment bar with sauce, pickles, onions, and jalapenos. The only real fault is that this is restaurant chain barbecue, and it tastes like it. The brisket, even though it sports a fine pink smoke ring around the edges was tasteless. Ribs were passable but nothing special. The chopped sandwich was served swimming in the house sauce, overwhelming any smoked beef flavor that might have existed. As a fast casual chain restaurant Pappas Bar-B-Q is just fine. It's a decent meal at a good price in a clean and efficient dining room. Just don't go expecting real barbecue.

Some things can't be untasted

By Jacobfk |

The sauce tasted like burnt vinegar and the food was cold. I would have rather not eat at all than eat here. I would not eat this food with my twin sisters ex-husbands mouth.

Great BBQ and atmosphere

By DDay1959 |

We stopped here for dinner as our guests from Japan wanted to experience real Texas BBQ. I could not think of a better place than Pappas that was close to downtown Dallas. Everyone tried different dishes such as ribs, beef brisket, turkey and sausage. Everything was delicious. We also had banana pudding and pecan pie which were fabulous as well.

Casual BBQ-massive portions

By Norjeff2 |

Went with 20 co-workers to this place for dinner. Great part is that you order and pay individually so there is no worry on the bill. The portions are a lot. I had the three pork platter which came with ribs, sausage and pulled pork. Very good. I had dirty rice and spicy baked beans as sides that are included. My co-worker had the beef ribs which look like they came from a dinosaur. They were huge. The food is very good and the atmosphere is casual. Total for my bill including drink was $14. I would definitely go back again.

Lunch - left over half our food

By Sharon A |

Food was at best merely mediocre Rib plate, ribs are dry! And more like jerky!! With No flavor, I ate less then half, just not worth the trouble to find a good bite! Tennessee sandwich, tasted just ok ( ate less then 1/2) The sides, I tried the sweet potatoes, pretty good, actually ate the entires serving . Which consisted of about three pieces! Next the bad... where is the flavor!! Cucumbers salad, plain vinegar ! Ate two bites, Yuck Some kind of pasta salad, tried two bites, no words! Plain! Yuck French fries, major over salted! Couldn't even eat them! So for $33 lunch for two, we left over half the food and had to go through fast food place on the way back to work!! Customer service, we where there about noon, pretty fast service but no personality. No smiles or no welcoming feeling!!

A few great meats, but not Pappa's best

By Texas_Russ69 |

Finally got a chance to try Pappas BBQ on NW Highway in Dallas. With so many awesome BBQ choices around the location is a bit out of the way. I tried the House Special plate ($15) during lunch today to get a sampling of all the meats and some sides. The bark on the brisket tasted very good. It was a bit too fatty but the meaty portions were very tender and the natural beef flavor came through well. The Ribs seasoning was sweet and to my liking. The sausage, ham, and pulled-pork was adequate. Meat portions were large as were the prices. Nothing really jumped out with the sides (yams, peas, beans, cole slaw, loaf bread). Service seemed a bit rushed and not very friendly. All-in-all good BBQ, but around Dallas there are way better options for my tastes. Being a big fan of Pappas other treats I expected a little more.

Good Place to Enjoy

By Maurice-Aguirre |

This place seemed me familiar and the service was also very good. The salad served here was great. Love the Place!!!

An old favorite that still has great barbecue and good atmosphere for lunch with friends

By Rod D |

Before moving out of town, this place was a favorite for lunch with a good friend who works nearby. Went back on a quick trip to Dallas and food still good, service is quick from the walk up line. Variety is exceptional and value is good.

Not a Bad Place for Bar-B-Q

By yellowpixels |

Portions are large, food tastes pretty good, kind of an old-fashioned Bar-B-Q place. Have not heard a complaint other than the deserts are dangerous! The baked potato should not be overlooked.

Great Potato

By Donald S |

Pappas has great food and a really cool atmosphere. Load that potato up with the meats of your choosing and then top it off at the fixins bar. The sweet tea is super and the prices are pretty decent.

Excellent Bar-B-Q in a Self Serve Style

By davidfW9546PB |

The food is Excellent. Everything from sandwiches to ribs and pulled pork are available. It is Cafeteria style service. You Serve yourself refills on drinks. I recommend the Pork trio. They have Extra generous portions. Between the 2 meals my wife and I had leftovers for another meal. The Pork sausage and baby back ribs are very good. If you are hungry for good barbecue then I highly recommend coming to Pappas Bar-B-Q.

AWESOME beef ribs

By steve s |

a lot of BBQ joints dont have BEEF ribs, so that makes this a special place for me. occasionally, a guy just needs some beef ribs, well, they never dissapoint

One of My Go-to BBQ Spots

By Tebear |

One of the better BBQ spots in Dallas. It's cafeteria-style. Lots of choices.. Different kinds of ribs (pork and beef), chicken, sausage, chopped brisket and more. The sides are notable as well. I'm a big fan of their jambalaya and the yams, but there are many other choices as well. Pretty expensive for BBQ (usually around $15 with drink) but for me, the beef ribs (which most BBQ places don't have) are worth it. They are huge - like Fred Flintstone eating a brontosaurus rib, but they are really flavorful. The pork ribs are very good, too. The sauce has good tang and isn't overly sweet, and there's a large relish bar with raw onions, pickled peppers, pico de gallo (!) that is solid, too.

Food Good-Service Poor

By Edward S |

Parking good. Property is clean. Menu as expected, good selection. Greeting was poor. Service was poor. Crew not paying attention to Clients. Pricing was fair. Presentation average. Food was tasty and well seasoned. Ok but not exceptional.

Good brisket

By Tk1919 |

Brisket and sides where very good half chicken looked good also. The sausage was below average. Over all I was happy with this bbq. Only complaint is it was expensive for serving size.

God BBQ

By akah31 |

Went there for lunch.the half chicken and rib was exhalent. Good Cole slaw and potato salad.will eat here again.

Average bbq and a little expensive.

By Aaron R |

I had the ham one day and found it to be a little salty for my taste. Next day had the beef 🐄 brisket it wasn't bad but there are certainly better out there. Overall if passing by worth the stop but not worth driving out of your way for.

still the best pork ribs and beef brisket!

By Bill W |

This Houston institution for over 50 years still only has just this one Dallas location, but it's worth the drive from anywhere in Dallas. The pork ribs are rubbed with brown sugar and spices, and then cooked for over 5 hours. The brisket is Angus beef that is slow-cooked for over 15 hours. All their sides are made in-house from scratch. This location is huge, with plenty of parking and seating - but the line can still get long during peak times. Highly recommend.

fantastic steak place

By AppleStud |

I was not aware of this place but checked it out on a whim. I'd say we had the best service ever. The food was awesome and felt warmly welcomed like we had gone often.

Dependably good BBQ

By Dale P |

I really like this place. It may not be the most awe inspiring BBQ, but it is certain very good, and very consistent. I have often brought someone here who isn't from Dallas, and they always like the overall experience. It's a big dining room, so there is plenty of room, and it's never a hurry to get done and leave.

Pretty decent food

By MOMof3EMT |

Pulled pork, brisket, rice and yams are amazing! Baked potato with turkey is HUGE and real good too! Grab a slice of pecan pie for dessert!!

NOPE!

By Toyotababy |

Being from Memphis I have tasted some of the countries best bbq. Coming to Texas I looked to have a taste of some good BBQ...I was sorely disappointed...I had ribs and brisket...the ribs were of some of the biggest bones I've ever seen and was too fatty...the brisket was way too dry, not tender at all. I thought the selection of sides to be way too limited but tried the creamed corn...just okay and I ordered what I thought to be bbq baked beans and turned out to be ranch beans..no, not very tasty. The slaw was okay but cut up in oversized pieces. An overpriced meal that left most of my food on the plate. My husband had sliced turkey which was also too dry, not very tender. We went for dinner, maybe early eating is better...I hope.

Excellent!

By KRISTYN Riley |

We brought a group of 25 in at the last minute and they got us food in a timely manner and the service was great! The food was way beyond expectation! Between us all, we had the baked potato, brisket, pulled pork and ribs with collard greens, creamed corn and cheesecake. It was all fantastic!

Good BarBQ, that closes so early

By Descant |

Our first time in Dallas so we have to find some good BarBQ. This place is located near the hotel we stayed by the Love Field Airport. The Papas triangle so they say. Oh well, we came around 8:30 PM and don't reliazed that they're closing I think at 9 PM. The food is good, we ordered the platter which includes 3 kinds of meat ( sausage, brisket and ribs ), the sides are awesome, there was like a bar of sides. Very fulling kinda food, comfort food as it's best. I only gave it 3 stars because they close so early, other than that the atmosphere was nice, a lot of colored lights, which is good for drinking but come on', closed so early???

Delicious in all aspects

By BUSAMAN007 |

Stopped in for some Bbq and ended up eating more things off of the menu Brisket Double cheeseburger and then ordered some Beef brisket tamales These were the best tamales I have ever ate before Ended up getting a dozen tamales to go

Terrible BBQ. Pulled pork to salty, sauce not sweet.

By Kelly W |

Three of us order the pulled pork. None of us could finish our sandwiches because, frankly, the quality of the meat was not good. Too salty. Too greasy and fatty as well. Furthermore, the late was only one option as far as BBQ sauce and it too was not good. Was bitter, not at all sweet. Don't know how they can serve pulled pork and not serve a sweet sauce. Furthermore, I have had some BBQ sauces that are not sweet which have been good and the sauce here at Pappas is not one of those. Bottom line is we all came here hungry and all left having eaten maybe half of our sandwiches because the BBQ was bad. This was possibly the worst BBQ that I have had here in Dallas in the 30+ years that I have lived here.

A truly pleasant surprise

By Randy Thompson |

I should have known better because when Pappas is on the name, it's going to be good. Had their steaks, their Mexican food, and their Cajun fare. Given the great BBQ in Dallas and Fort Worth (Pecan Lodge, Hard 8, Coopers, Railhead) I guess I figured why bother with this place when there are SO MANY great places to get my smoked meats. But I was in the area around noon today and finally figured why not. I am just sorry I did not try it before. This place is NOT set up like many of the traditional places named above. No open smoke pit, no meats by the pound. It's set up more like a cafeteria. Take a tray, order your protein, and while that is being put together you can pick some sides. Creamed corn, beans (which were great!), coleslaw (which was on the sweet side but really tasty!), mac and cheese among other. Sauces were really good as well and they have a variety to try. And compared to the other Pappas property, this place is a BARGAIN! Lots of tables both inside and out. Worth a try sometime for sure. And I would not hesitate to go back.

Not good sauce

By Justin M |

Sides are ok. The pulled pork was ok till the BBQ sauce blew it the sauce is not good at all price is decent and it is easy to find but will not be coming back

Enjoyable experience

By traveller |

This was our first visit and we really enjoyed it. A lovely atmosphere, good no-frills food and excellent customer care. Well worth a visit

Disappointed

By MSC_DLC |

My brother recommended this place and told us how great is was. Can't trust my brother anymore. My wife and I split the ham, brisket and pork and we both had 2 sides. The beef had cooked to long and was overdone. Good bark. The mouth feel was not good. It was mushy. The pork was full of fat and very greasy. The ham was good. I had the potato salad and spicy beans. The potato salad was sweet and good. The beans live up to their name. They are spicy. My wife had the macaroni and cheese and a side salad. The salad was huge and they give you at least a half cup of dressing. The mac and cheese was good. There are to many BBQ joints in Texas for me to put this one on the list to go back to.

This was a find!

By Chris R |

This was a cafeteria style restaurant. Five of us went here, everyone said their meal was awesome. I had a cheeseburger... and I needed bigger hands to hold it. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. Next time I visit Dallas, I'll be back to see if I can finish my burger

Conference Lunch Break

By tenisheat2016 |

Great spot for lunch with friends we loved the loaded baked potato with turkey and the ribs and brisket was tender and quite flavorful. Great variety of sides and sauces.

Excellent prices, clean tables and great straight up bar b que

By Mitch R |

The pork ribs and potato salad are excellent. The place has clean tables and plenty of AC. The food is fresh and the staff is friendly. The price is right. This is an authentic Texas experience.

Brisket Heaven

By Aymster71 |

We happened into this place after finding Pappas Steakhouse with a 2 hour wait. Delicious serendipity! In October there’s a Friday special of 1/2 lb. sliced beef plus 2 sides for $9.95. Yes. I had that, hubs yet had the house special with 4 meats in smaller portions. Two sides, of course. Huge portions, fresh ingredients and great recipes! We try barbecue everywhere we travel, and this was in the top four.

this Houston institution has one location in Dallas as well

By Bill W |

With over a dozen locations all over Houston, this one Dallas location is on Northwest Highway just W of I-35. This location has lots of seating. In Houston they were known for their excellent brisket and meaty pork spare ribs; I'm happy to say this is the case for this Dallas location as well. On the weekend that we went they were also offering a Beef Trio special (brisket, beef rib, beef sausage, two sides) along with all their extensive menu selections. I learned that their process involves slow-smoking all their meats 24/7 in a wood-burning BBQ pit that constantly moves the meats rotisserie-style, and adding fresh hickory & mesquite to give the meats a slightly-sweet smoking. Everything, including their sides, are all made from scratch on premises; they've been doing BBQ for over 40 years. The results are delicious.

Good BBQ and really neat location

By Robert G |

The pork sausage was delicious. But the smoked turkey although tasty was a bit dry. Sides were LARGE, not the wimpy little half cups - -but nice large dishes. Green beans with tomatoes and collared greens were super tasty. The condiment bar (pickles, jalepinos, etc.) was well stocked and had pico. Very nice. 2 meat was $14.95 and had so much I could not finish the plate. Great choice and a really cool and large repurposed driveup restaurant.

Great BBQ

By Jason L |

We had a meeting at one of the hotels in the area and they suggested Pappas BBQ. This is very traditionally smoked BBQ. Although brisket was a little dry, the chicken and sausage was excellent. Decent service, but pretty good food for the price.

Amazing food and service

By SFH |

Due to the weather, we had a last minute change of plans so I called them to see if they could serve a group of 20-30. They said we could come immediately. The food was delicious (ribs, brisket, potato, creamed corn, and cheesecake) and the service impeccable! We will return if ever in this area!

Cheap and very cheerful indeed

By KirkbyBlue |

How this place manages to keep prices so low and quality so high amazes me! The food was excellent and certainly not what you expect when you walk in. Full of locals which tells you everything you need to know. Go and finf it and tuck in to some great local food. You won't be disappointed.

Generous Portions

By Cookie A |

We found this place by accident and we were glad we did. Since we were in Texas and hand't had any BBQ yet we thought this looked like a "locals" kind of place. The food was excellent and there was enough left over to take back to the hotel.

Wonderful smoked flavor

By Becky P |

Cafeteria style with lots of choices. We really enjoyed our visit and it was open after 8:00 pm. This was our third place we tried. The others closed early. Yummy and filling! We got the three meat platter. Loved the ribs and brisket especially

Great for quick bite!

By Bklyngirl312 |

If in a jam for a bite, this good place.. Bbq was decent! Sides could use improvements. Mac and cheese was like wating velvetta shells and cheese . Mm may consider going there again but just for the meat!

Loved it last year

By Bigfoot3910 |

But apparently a year can make a big difference. Sides that were amazing last year tasted very "canned" this time around. Sausage and pulled pork was good, ham and turkey were flavorless. Sauce seemed to be burnt? None of us cared for it this time and it was virtually the same group that loved it last year.

Solid Q, big servings

By wolfshowl |

Not bad Bar B-Q for a small chain. I've had better in Dallas but I was not disappointed really here. The serving size is generous and they have many sides available. The three different sauces where very good. They had the standard mustard based and sweet sauce then an espresso based one. The espresso sauce was not to my taste but it was fun to try and seemed very popular. The prices are equivalent to eating out at a chain sit down restaurant but the quality is better. Not fast food prices by any means but the quality is worth the price. The staff was very friendly and helpful and I saw them go out of their way to make sure people ordered something they would enjoy. Over all it was a solid experience and I would come back to one in the future. My singular complaint is they seamed to be a bit heavy handed on the pepper in their rub.

I wish the meat was better

By Ron R |

The sauce choices are not the best, the meat was fatty, and the corn mushy. I have tried the salads, not much but lettuce. Tried the ribs and the meat stuck to the bone (I like it to fall off). The onion rings are great. Lots of food, but not the bet.

Great food and affordable

By CHRISTENPOMPA |

If you want to take the whole family to a great place without breaking the piggy bank. This is the place in the area!

Just okay!!!!

By Dng85 |

Sadly to say too much fat on my brisket sandwich. I also order fries, which were JUST okay. My husband had the BBQ chicken, shredded pork, cream corn, & a potato. His chicken was really dry and overcooked, the pork was just okay, cream corn and potatoe tasted the best! I gave it a 2 star bc the food was very tastless, dry, overcooked, expensive to what we purchased, & after tasting all BBQ sauces, just not that good. We've tasted much better!!!

great BBQ pork ribs and beef brisket

By Bill W |

If you are in the area - or even worth the drive if you're not - this is the only location in Dallas for this Houston BBQ institution. Large, meaty pork ribs and nice beef brisket (they usually give you a mix of lean and moist brisket meat). This place is not fancy, but very large - lots of seating to accommodate even the largest of groups easily. Lines can be long at times, but definitely worth the wait. Give it a try!

Best BBQ Ive ever had

By Jacob M |

Its a self serve type restaurant, order then pick up the incredible food stuff. The brisket melts in your mouth and the potato salad tasted just like my grandmothers (very good). Also try the carrot cake. There is a line that forms around the building so I was glad that we went on a weekday and had no wait.

As good as ever

By Doug S |

I have been eating at Pappas BBQ for over 30 years. This time we had the pulled pork sandwich and a kids rib dinner. The restaurant was clean, the personnel were friendly, and the food was excellent as always. The portions were large enough that we could take part back to the hotel.

Good, but could be great

By danrist |

This place has the look and feel of an authentic Texas Roadhouse joint - BBQ, cold beer and the sounds of George Strait and Garth Brooks songs to complete the experience. Brisket and rib combo should be a cant miss, the baby backs were very good, albeit cold. The problem was the brisket - trim off the fat and offer an alternative to the one sauce. I found it underwhelming. Overall, this was very good, with a little work this place could be outstanding.

Get your BBQ ON!

By Bmillionaire |

Pappas is great BBQ with a little flair with their sauces to add flavor! Staff is friendly and got more beers/wines of all sorts of selections!

Very disappointed

By John Focht |

I love Pappas. Really. I grew up in a neighborhood in Houston near the Pappas' family (18th west of Ella) in the 1970's. The only daughter/sister was a high school friend. The seafood restaurants are fabulous. So I should be singing the praises of their barbeque restaurant in north Dallas. But I'm not. It disappoints me. The pork sausage po'boy I ordered was awful. The meat was loaded with sage. I like sage as a seasoning, but this was way, way too much! It was almost inedible. I will try again, and hope this was simply a bad batch of sausage. Hope springs eternal!

Awesome

By Edie C |

We had awesome service by Harry in Plano, Texas location. The food was amazing . We will definitely be back .

Awesome Poboy

By BradfordJBoyle |

Been on a brisket and pulled pork binge during my Dallas visit. Ended up being recommended the poboy with turkey and sausage. Delish!

Great Bar B Que

By E… |

First time to visit Papas Bar B Que. the food was very good. I had Brisket and sausage and my wife had the ribs. Large dining area that is very open. Also has covered outdoor seating.

This is the place to go!

By Daniel E P |

Great variety and prices are very fair. Lot of room indoors and outdoors. My favorite BBQ place in Dallas.

BBQ was ok but brisket was dry

By Tony M |

I took a colleague from NY to Pappas for some Texas BBQ. The sausage and chicken were excellent, the ribs were ok but the beef brisket was really dry. In my opinion, it should not have been served if it is that dry. The candied yams were very good. I suggest you ask if the brisket is fresh/moist before you order it. You can actually ask for a sample (which I neglected to do!) before ordering.

Below Average

By 32Shirley88 |

We gave this place a try because we love Pappadeaux's and wanted BBQ. It was not that great. I got a chopped beef sandwich that was overly salty and my husband got the BBQ baked potato and his was super fatty. We don't think we need to give it another chance.

Good Eats!

By TexasRube |

This place some very good barbecue with all the fixings.... I recommend this place to everyone. Good food... Good service.... Great prices!

Proteins all solid, sides surprisingly weak.

By Robert M |

No one goes to a cafeteria style BBQ for a fine, craft BBQ experience. They come to get a good, cheap meal. This checks both of those boxes. I wanted to try their pork ribs and brisket, but nothing on the menu could line those up. So I went with the 3 beef plate and asked if I could swap the beef rib for a pork one. Nope. Then when I went to pick it up they told me they were out of beef sausage, would I like a pork sausage? Wait a minute, we can switch items if you want but not if I want?? I went with it. Again, I didn't have high hopes. The brisket was ok. Not sure if there's any wood smoke going on for very long, but with the right amount of sauce, I got it down. The beef rib was a definite let down. It was so chewy I thought I was given a dog bone. In fact, I should have saved it for mine. The pork sausage was good and tasty. The green beans looked good but I think room temperature was warmer so I don't think it was put under the heat lamp for long. The creamed corn was a definite pass. I always said that I never met a creamed corn I didn't like. That's now off of my "quote list". Inside was very clean and well organized. If you want protein quick and relatively cheap, it's not too bad.

Yummy BBQ

By auditru2blue |

Was looking for some home style cooking BBQ flavor. Several Bbq places only did lunch hours. We were lucky to find this gem. From the Texas decor to Texas hospitality. You order at the counter and they fix your fixins right there. I ordered a loaded baked potato with pulled pork. The potato was served in a large 6 in plate/bowl. HUGE! $8 and so filling. My friend ordered plate of meat, salad, garlic bread, side and a large 64 oz coke all for $11. Nice atmosphere with older country music, rustic but charming. Delicious food!
