I was in town for a meeting. Pappas Barbeque was right there. Conveniently located, lots of parking (unusual for a downtown location) and a new looking facility. Top that with some great choices, excellent service, and quick! My half chicken plate was to write home about. Out of there too in less than 45 minutes. Highly recommended!

I admit I am from the southwest desert and was not born and bred on "authentic" BBQ but I have had more than my fair share of BBQ and was sorely disappointed at the Pappas BBQ I have heard so much about. I had the BBQ brisket sandwich, it was decent and the fries were average. Since we were eating with friends I got to sample a little bit of everyone's. The baked beans were the worst part of the meal, they were horrible and I could barely finish the bite I had. The consensus at the table was that everything was average to poor. The BBQ sauces were gross, I didn't like either the sweet or the regular sauce. Pretty sad when a chain BBQ joint like Famous Dave's blows this place out of the water. Out of the 6 of us there, everyone agreed that we would not be coming back anytime soon. I really wanted to like this place, I really love BBQ and I am not hard to please. Do yourself a favor and find a different BBQ joint.

I walked past this place by accident,at 7 am I bought a coffee and a taco with egg, cheese. The place is authentic and fair prices .smells kind of like smoked meat. IM glad I discovered this place at end of Trip in the usa,Mexico, and Guatemala.

Arrived at a Friday night. Place was not half full but with good energy. You get your dish from a line, fast serving, Not expensive (24$ for 0.5lb brisket, 2 small side and a large ice tea) Brisket was good Coleslaw was excellent Potato salad was mediocre Will come again

This location never lets me down i just ate a backed potato there 2 days ago and the meat on top of it was great. A must try

This restaurant was in walking distance from our hotel... we thought we would give it a try at the recommendation of our hotel shuttle driver. Beware, as other reviewers have stated the wait does get long when they are busy. I had the beef ribs, Mac and cheese and slaw. All were fantastic. The bbq sauce was to die for... I wish I would have bought some to take home! This may not be the best bbq in Texas but it satisfied my needs and was close to our hotel. Would definitely go back!

I was there with alumni associates from Virginia who were staying at the U of H. We picked this for informality and convenience. I had ribs and sausage, both of which were ok. The sauce was bland and uninteresting. The sides were corn and spiced rice. The corn tasted like it came from a can and the rice tasted like canned spanish rice. The place is spacious with ample parking and a drive-in window. The drive-thru crowd was substantial while the eating in group was relatively sparse. There was a policeman on duty in the parking lot so I wonder if they have had security issues in the past. With so many good BBQ options in Houston, you can skip this one.

My husband & I just stumbled upon this Pappa's BBQ & were so excited we did. We've never eaten at a Pappa's BBQ and we will be sure to return again and again. The food was great & we loved the cantaloupe water was AMAZING! We can't wait for our next visit to Houston to return to our new find!! The service was impeccable. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and explained the service line so well. Great, great, great find!!

A few co-workers and I were looking for a great BBQ place. We were recommended to go here by a few locals and this was a complete mistake. They have a great amount of options for food, but the food is tasteless and absolutely horrendous. The BBQ sauce is watered down, weak and terrible. The rub was decent, but was washed out by the overcooking of the meat. It was dry and honestly terrible for the most part. I was disappointed considering this came highly recommended. A bottle of Sweet Baby Rays and some Sams Club Ribs would most likely make for a better meal than what was offered here. I won't be back.

Yelp rated this location on Pierce Street only 3 stars but what do I know, I'm just a tourist from the west coast. I ordered the mixed platter for $14.75 and it came with a side dish and a large salad. The sampler plate had a variety of meat cuts from spare rib, kielbasa, pulled pork and brisket. The amount of food was plenty for my wife and I. The locals obviously know more, but for a couple of simple tourists, it was delicious.

After a Saturday night Astros game, six of us ate at this cafeteria style restaurant. There were many items from which to choose and the service was quick. The portions were large and the food was very tasty. TV's located throughout the restaurant allowed us to watch key Saturday night college football games as we ate. This was a big plus.

We eat there 5-6 times a year and the experience has always been good. It's a convenient stop before a downtown ballgame, theater, or music event. The barbecue is tender and tasty (good, not great), with a variety of sauces available. Portions are measured but rather large. I generally order the Bar-B-Q loaded baked potato. It is cafeteria style, so sometimes it takes a little while to get through the serving line, but it's generally never real busy in the late afternoon. The area is not Upper Kirby or River Oaks so watch your step. There is a cop generally on duty around the entrance, but it's still probably better for an early evening meal while it is still light.

We happened to be exploring the surrounding area while staying at the Hyatt Regency Houston Downtown and stumbled upon Pappas Bar B-Q. We are glad we did. We thought it was regular sit down and be served resturant but you order first. They give you your food and you get the sauce you like from the bar. The bar has other codiments as well. I ended up ordering the special of the day which was half a chicken and a rib. The price was great and it also came with two sides. When I got my food I realized the portions were not adjusted lunch portions. I could not finish my food but it was good BBQ. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. The staff was friendly and happy to serve us. Make sure to try the watermelon punch if its still available. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and it was also delicious.

Visited here while on vacation with my family during an Easter getaway. We were searching for bar b que. We are from GA. After all, Houston or Texas period is known for bar b que’s. Found this place via google. I ill say this place is known for bar b que. This is the home of bar b que. We’ve eaten bar b que in 17 states thus far, before trying here and this ranks very high on the number 1 list, if not number one. The environment was great, the food is oh so freaking good and the staff, just so warm and friendly. You should not have any reservation visiting this restaurant if you are in the mood for some serious bar b que. We ordered the mixed platter.

I flew into Houston and friends took me to Pappas. I have the privilege of traveling a lot and I always want to go somewhere I can't go back home (NJ). Pappas was just the ticket. It's delicious BBQ with a country casual atmosphere. The Pork Ribs were meaty and the brisket was tender. My friends are regulars there and I can see why.

Went for dinner with friends after a concert at the Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral across the street. Frankly, we were disappointed. Previous meals at this location have been excellent. I had been especially fond of their beef ribs. This time everyone in our party of 9 agreed that the food was not up to par. At best we would rate it as ordinary. The restaurant has recently been renovated and expanded to take over half the city block. Perhaps they lost something during the construction. I hope they find it and get it back.

Second annual visit to this place and very satisfied. Big selection of food including combos the side orders. The pull pork is very good by itself, in a sandwich or combined with half a chicken. There is a salad bar with condiments, including choice of BBQ sauce. I will definitely eat there again.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant for good quality BBQ food. The food was yummy - the portions are huge. We shared the brisket and pulled pork with two sides - I particularly enjoyed the creamed corn side! Definitely worth a visit.

Anytime I travel I always look for BBQ. So when in the Houston area I looked up BBQ and found Pappas. Upon entering the restaurant I notice the antique western motif. Looked at the huge menu anw went to the counter and got a meat combo. I wasnt sure if it would fill me, boy was I wrong! Great portions, best brisket I have ever had very good ribs as well. Combo with beer under $14! what a value!

The bbq was good but not the best I have ever had. We had the brisket, cucumber salad and macaroni salad. Everything was good but expensive. I really didn’t care for their bbq sauce.

Stuck in Houston due to a canceled flight this was the perfect place to pig out. Be ready for Texas sized portions.

First the good - the pulled pork and the jalapeno cheese bun were simply delectable. The fries were frozen in the middle and not edible. The service was so chaotic. Got in line. two registers at the front. One for ordering - one for picking up to go orders. So people are in the wrong line. People cut in line to pick up orders so you wait forever to order. Because this is not a part of town you confront someone who cuts in line in front of you. Order. Then wait, wait some more, wait a bit more, then get your frozen fries. And it was early in the day - way before the after church rush. Crazy.

Big size portions and classic BBQ restaurant. Various options to pick from, including sides. Potato salad is one of the best side dishes. Ribs is the sure thing but the baked potatoes will be a top choice Most servings should be shared as portions are super sized

Brisket was moist and tender but the salt rub was so overpowering, it took away from what would have been some great brisket. Slaw and mac and cheese were perfect. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Will be back to try something different.

I had dinner last night at Pappas BBQ with my family. We are from Florida and are accostumed to a mustard base BBQ sauce as opposed to tomato based, I thought he ribs were very good and the brisket was outstanding. The type of sauce that seems prevalent in TX is somewhat of an acquired taste, but it works for me. I would definitely back.

Quick and easy place for dining. One of our favorite Papas to go to. Close to our home. Nice and clean.

I moved from Houston nine years ago and everytime I return this place is on my list. Trust me everytime I visit I have never been disappointed. This place serves high quality BBQ consistently and their baked potatoes are unmatched, adding meat to them makes for a complete meal! Good smoked meats at great prices!!

Food was good, but certainly not great. The sliced beef was dry and cut a little too thick. I would hope that there is better in TX than this.

We eat here often given the location to UH and our home but almost always dine in. The potatoes are great. My only issue with the place is that drive through is very inconsistent. You can wait 5 minutes or 30 minutes. It is not worth the risk. I would also recommend their breakfast burritos.

This was by far the best bbq ribs I've had ever. And the staff is phenomenal. Friendly and helpful and always with a smile. Wish this place was in Orlando, FL.

Lunch is great here. Parking is somewhat of a hassle because they are so busy. The food is delicious and they serve and get you thru the line fast.

Well I quite liked this place, but my kids were disappointed, but I think that's because we didn't know the form on how to order etc here. This is not a restaurant where you get table service, it is a canteen-like setting where you need to have decided what you want before you walk up to order. If you are not sure what to have, go for the ribs and chicken combo. The ribs are huge and tasty and you then get a couple of sides you order and extra salad from the salad bar. Having paid you find your table and away you go. The quality of the food was very good and the portions were generous. I guess it just wasn't what we were expecting.

First visit to Houston, and Pappas was recommended by one of our Lyft drivers. Wow- just a short half mile hike from our hotel. We looked over the menu online and i walked over to get our order. We both wanted the baby back ribs, my wife wanted the baked potato to keep her meal gluten free, and i wanted double mac and cheese. First sign of a good BBQ joint is the crowd. Yea, they were crowded, and it was barely 5 p.m. All the tables by the take out counter were loaded with folks, smiling and chatting between bites. Looked good. Smelled wonderful! i wondered if they sold any of the burgers they had on the menu.....who would settle for a hamburger with smoked meat around? While waiting, i looked over their in house fixings table and made a couple of containers of two of their bbq sauces after a quick sample of them. i was also able to get a couple of small containers of chives for the baked potato. When i got back to the hotel and unpacked, i was delighted to discover that our order was perfectly filled! Box one with a half rack of babybacks and an extra extra large baked potato. It had plenty of chives, but was very light on the sour cream. Oh, wish i had thought to ask for extra as sour cream is the key to a baked potato for my wife. She still ate a good third of it before she ran out of appetite for it, but could have gone further with more sour cream. Their mac features truly large elbow noodles, a first for me. Very easy to get on the fork, and the cheese sauce was smooth and flavorful. Glad i doubled up on it. We both demolished our ribs, Nothing left. Went through all the sauce i brought back, which is unusual. i normally eat ribs naked to enjoy the smoke. These had a great aroma of smoke, but surprisingly little smoke flavor. Hence my using all the sauce. We were hungry. We left naked bones. We both agreed that the bbq was very good, just as our driver promised. If they could get more smoke into their meat, it would be more to my liking. Might have eaten the bones!

This restaurant provides you so many options in BBQ. It is setup like a cafe where you go down the line and tell them what you want. Desserts, drinks, BBQ and atmosphere is for most people.

We have been to Austin a few times and love Texas BBQ. Normal order at the counter style with an ok range of beer options. Could do with a few more beer options. Amazing food we had the full baby back ribs which was huge...Good coleslaw and ranch beans. We would love to go back and would highly recommend

A downtown place to get your Pappas BarBQ. Definitely like the meat (almost any kind). The sauce depends on your liking, but the meat is very tender. Easy access.

Mediocre BBQ, especially in a town like Houston. Chopped beef is too fatty and should be avoided. The sausage and pulled pork are passable. I love all of the Pappas restaurants I've been to - except this chain.

Loved the cold bean salad, spicy & crisp! The Carolina sandwich was awesome! Lots of choices! Wish I could eat more! Great family run restaurant!

Bearing in mind that this is always fast food, I must say that this is one of the best I have tried, the open "kitchen" was much appreciated, even for those who prepare the meat. Fast service, clear in terms of methods and good quality. Strong point: I appreciated seeing the "grillers" at work What needs to be improved: perhaps the temperature difference between 35 degrees outside and 21 degrees inside is a bit strong...

Make sure your to-go-orders are correct before you leave. When I called to inform the manager that my to-go-orders were not what I ordered, that this is not the first time it has happened. He mentioned that the "cashiers are very busy." When he was that told that, "I am busy too," he amended by saying, "after the restaurant closes, he will talk to the cashiers about getting the orders right. I am giving the manager an honest feedback about the service. And the response is the cashiers are busy. This is a Pappas company, a Houston institution, the expectations are higher. In fairness to the chef, the food is awesome, In summary, good food, sucky service!

I had a meat special. Unfortunately the meat was cool, overcooked and pretty tasteless. , the ambiance was unappealing and the only beer the served at the time I was there was Bud Lite...

Everything was so tasteful, hard to choose sides. Meat was so tender and juicy. Baked beans were good not great. Mac and cheese was cheese and green beans were the best.

First timers experiencing this type of food. Great atmosphere, smell, staff, cleanliness. Ease of ordering, plenty of condiments, an array of seating which caters for everyones tastes. Nice porch area outside if you prefer fresh air. Food was delicious and good portion size. Value for money. Good location with plenty of parking.

Having never been to Texas, we decided it was a must for us to try some Texas BBQ. We passed Pappas on the way to our hotel and decided to stop in and have lunch. The service was very fast and the food was fresh. The portions are HUGE and more than enough for two people to share. Prices aren't bad, either. I would recommend the pork sandwich on the jalapeno cheese bread!

Great food and decor with helpful friendly staff. Huge serving portions. Family style casual restaurant.

BBQ briskit is good but not great. Sunday all you can eat ribs is not advertised but is a bargain since it is less than the BBQ rib platter so even if you don't want all you can eat...save some $$$. Hubby and I typically each order the HUGE side salad and box it up for lunch the next day and share our other sides so we get four meals for the price of two. BUT the real reason we keep going back is for the carrot cake....OMG it's good...and cheap too!

Some really good BBQ and affordable. I was told this was the original location and it did not disappoint! Make sure to get there early, they can sell out. We couldn’t get beef ribs because it was sold out

We had Pappas BBQ brought in for a business lunch, so I can’t comment on the service, location or ambience. The food was pretty good, a choice of brisket, pulled pork and wings. Sides of salad, Mac and cheese, cucumber salad and potato salad. Overall a pretty good feast, not the best BBQ I’ve had, but a solid choice for a local chain restaurant.

My wife and I went to papas to experience some local food when visiting from Australia. We loved the ribs and pecan pie and the staff were very friendly. Unlimited refills of soft drinks and big portions and we thought reasonably priced.

This place was not the best BBQ in Houston by far. I was a little disappointed by the fact that they closed at 8pm at night, and their food was not the freshest, hottest BBQ when I strolled in at 7:20. Oh well.

We were trying for the Cajun place and it was closed, so a passerby suggested Pappas which was just a couple of blocks away. Very appetizing set up with all their meats and delicious sides in view. I had the mixed tray and all of it was great. Pulled pork, a rib, smoked sausage and ham slices. If I had the bread, I would have had enough meat for 4 large sandwiches. And healthy orders of sides also. Very good meal in a friendly atmosphere.

I ordered the mixed plate which had brisket, sausage, ribs, and ham, but I substituted it for turkey. It was very delicious. I wasn’t too fond of the sausage cause it had sage in it. I also substituted my 2 sides for a baked potato, fully loaded and it was huge, very delicious Big portions. I would recommend this place to anyone! The prices were reasonable as well. Great environment!

Great taste Good portions Friendly service staff Price/performance is ok. The selection of sauces is excellent.

It was a nice experience with the service. Staff was friendly. But the food was not as good as we expected. Need to improve more

On a recent couples trip to Houston Texas we had lunch at Pappas Bar B Que. This is a self service restaurant. The food is outstanding. The temperature of the restaurant was perfect. The music level was perfect. I really enjoyed our meal and would recommend this restaurant .

Want a quick BBQ fix, then this is the place in the downtown area. No long lines, but excellent flavor in the beef ribs and chicken combo. Food quantity was enough for the next day, but you can easily "pig-out" there.

Our bus tour guide recommended this place so we thought we'd try it on our last night in Houston as we fancied some bbq food, it was average! You collect a tray, order at the counter and wait for the food like you're in a school canteen, then seat yourself, it's a slightly posher concept than McDonalds but I'd go as far to say I prefer McDonalds. I had beef (it was cold) with coleslaw, potatoe salad and a soft drink, it cost $17, nowhere near worth it! At the condiment bar you can help yourself to salad items, that was the best bit. Apparently this place is a chain and theres one specifically for steak but I can't say I'm inclined to try another!

Many memories here. This was my first experience with Pappas BBQ back in the day. They're now a Houston institution. Love those baked potatoes as big as yer head. Combination BBQ plates with healthy side portions, wow!!! When I'm out of the US for long periods of time, this is one of the places I miss most.

Pappas Bar-B-Q is on the edge of downtown. It seemed to have a very brisk take out business. It is very casual inside, as expected for a barbeque place. The beef brisket plate had two different preparations - both very tender and tasty. It was a half pound portion of meat and also came with twosides that were only average.

Offered several choices and the taste as great. The service was quick and it was clean. You will not leave here hungry. Worth the money.

This is the real deal Texas Barbeque, slow smoked beef brisket and pulled pork, that is tender and juicy. You get to choose your own sauce and make up your own salsa combo. Informal, cafeteria style, generous servings, and lots of choices for sides. I saw some lady with a baked potato stuffed with pulled pork bigger than my arm. I had the combo of pulled pork and ribs, and sides of yams and coleslaw, we didn`t have room for pie, but I looked really good. It wasn`t busy at 7 pm on a weeknight, so service was fast and very accommodating.

The lady in the window was so personable! She greeted me, asked how my day was. Retrieved my order in timely manner,

I tried a combination plate with all the meats and a baked potato - side of green beans. The brisket was very dry and had no dry rub to speak of - flavorless. The sausage casing was very elastic/chewy- the sausage tasted cheap. Ham was ok The ribs were just ok - again, lacked a dry rub. The sauces were unrefined. The best parts were the green beans and baked potato. Ate less than a third and gave the rest to a homeless person outside. Disappointed!

First of all, in case it isn't clear from the website, this place is more of a cafe with slightly dimmed lighting than a restaurant. You go up to a counter and order then walk along to pick up your meal and pay. There are pretty big TVs on the wall. There are a couple of these places in the area, this one is located about a 5 minute walk from Downtown Transit Centre Northbound metro rail station. I chose a chicken po-boy which was around $7 for what was a massive plate of food. I saw the chef slice two whole chicken breasts for my one sandwich. The chips look fairly rustic, but they weren't my favourite. My companion got hickory smoked ham, which she rated highly. There was a pepper bar at the end of the production line where you could get what looked like pico de gallo, onions, jalapenos etc - not sure if this was free or not but it seemed so, and no one objected when we decided to sample a few bits and pieces. I can't remember whether it was licensed or not as we just drank sodas. The selection is fairly generic, I think the Coke brand, but I may be wrong. As far as I could tell it was not free refills but the glasses weren't tiny so that was ok. It was quiet when we went (on a Thursday evening), many people picking up takeaways. The food was nice, I would have liked to try a bbq sauce - not sure if I just missed out on asking for it, but the chicken on its own - although entirely delicious, was a little dry in combination with bread and chips.

This was one of the worst places in terms of food I have ever been to. The food was simply horrible. In Texas, I figured I would get top notch ribs, no matter where I'd be going. Oh boy, was I wrong. I had the baby back ribs, because the were the most expensive ribs (and actually were way overpriced for a place like this to begin with) on the menu and usually the best of all. However, they were dry as a bone and anything but tender and I almost needed a chainsaw to get the meat off of the bone. Same desaster with the pulled pork sandwich, just awful and not much taste. I tried to give it some taste with their bbq sauce, but that made things even worse. The sauce is so thin, that it literally ran away, and it had an awkward taste. We were more than just disappointed, for sure we won't go there again.

Overall not a bad BBQ joint. The ribs were tender and had a good rub. Sauce on the side was perfect so the bbq could speak for itself. Large portions to good value for the money.

As soon as you open the door, a waft of mesquite aromas tickle your olfactory senses (smell). The food is so delicious, Texan style, I wish I could have ordered the entire menu. They have such a great variety of meats and salads and tortillas, there's simply too much to choose from, my favourite place to have breakfast and lunch in Houston.

The beef was the best part, the sandwich was good but sides were just average. They are set for local lunch so they do rush you through line.

This place was actually pretty good. Loved the food! Great fries! The sausage was very good! Loved the barbecue sauce too! A great place to go worth the family.

Very clean, bright restaurant with lots of seating. You walk up to the counter to place your order and your food is prepared quickly. They have a condiment bar loaded with many items for you to enjoy. The food is very good and flavorful. The baked potato was very Texas style...BIG! They load the potato with copious amounts of shredded cheddar cheese. The meat is not bland and not over cooked like at some BBQ places. While this is a chain, it is still very good. Very busy at 8:30pm! Average price $13.00 for a meal or $9 for a loaded potato. Give this place a try, we sure will when we come back to town!

Pappas does a great job with barbecue. Their meat was cooked well, had a great flavor and their barbecue sauces were fantastic. Had a great meal and great service.

Stopped by one evening last week - the line was long but moved quickly - most was for take-out but we attempted to finish it by dining in. I say attempted since the portions are L-A-R-G-E (see picture) and really good basic BBQ. I'm from back East so we were cruising for authentic Texas BBQ - we were not disappointed. The prices were very reasonable - and the menu options were fairly extensive. The staff serves the food up fast with no frills - but with good customer service (they ran out of one side and so my friend quickly substituted but when the supply had been replenished they brought the original order over to our table - no charge - a nice touch. The view at night with the retro neon look was really cool and inviting. We really pigged out!! A great way to experience a local favorite.

We went here on a Sunday night. Brisket was good but 1/2 of it had quite a bit of fat. Didn't have any Mac and cheese so we had beans, coleslaw, cheesy corn. They have beer and soda.

They have huge baked potatoes stuffed with all the goodies. We order potatoes and/or barbecue at least twice a month here. Love the sauce. Tangy and not too sweet. I usually hit the drive-thru on my way home. Very convenient.

I asked the concierge @ at the downtown Hyatt where a good BBQ place might be - since it was late night they directed me to Pappas on Pierce, just a block or two from the hotel. @ first my heart sank - It looks kind of like a cafeteria. I was in the mood for some good Houston ribs. Little did I know that the Pappas franchise is deep & wide in Houston ( I think there are three alone at Hobby airport), but the next morning I saw a bunch of them while in the taxi all thru the city. The good news is, even tho they are a chain, the Pappas I went to was really great. I had the pork rib special, a couple of sides & a large soda for around $15. The ribs gave new definition to what we usually say "falling off the bone" meat - when I simply picked a rib up the meat slithered off and plopped into the tray. Really well cooked, smoky, delicious. Very nice. The ambience of the place is totally low key - no one cares who you are; they are just enjoying their dinner.

Good bbq place. Nice variety of the basic bbq meats, goodies and sides. It's not the best in town but it serves the purpose for a quick grab of good bbq.

I was very excited to have some real Texas barbecue. I didn't get it. It was average at best. My wife enjoyed her pulled pork sandwich and fries but I was dissapointed with my dry brisket and the ribs although looked big and delicious were mostly bones and gristle. Mac n cheese was pasta and weak cheese sauce, the roasted cauliflower was the best part of my meal. Cafeteria style with not so friendly people behind the counter. Not in hurry to go back, too many great restaurants in Houston.

We went and husband ordered all you can eat ribs. My daughter and I ordered the 3 sample plate brisket ,turkey, and chicken. I loved the chicken and turkey and mac and cheese was the best I have had in a restaurant . Husband ate his share of ribs. All in all it was a comfortable atmosphere and a good meal.

I was on east coast time after flying in that day so I was hungry and didn't want to wait. My son and I walked to this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the pulled pork dinner and my son had ribs. We ate outside on a picnic table because the weather was nice. I had so much food that I took some home for lunch. Casual, great for families, reasonable prices. I would return.

Most don't think about a BBQ place for breakfast. This downtown location offers breakfast tacos (where I'm from they are burritos!). They offer the usual..Bacon, sausage, eggs potatoes, cheese, etc. Folded into a flour tortilla..thus the name taco. Service is quick and friendly. Plain egg taco is only .99 cents...a bargain. .

Very good Texas style Bar-B-Que with generous portions at a reasonable price. Chicken was moist and flavorful. The brisket was smoky without being too fatty. The sausage was firm and full of flavor.

We walked here after the Texans game. Being from New York State, we don't get good Barbecue. We stopped to get a snack while we waited for the traffic to dissipate. We tried the ribs, brisket, sausage and even buffalo chicken wings. All were very good. We are from Buffalo and old enough to have been around for the birth of the chicken wing, let me tell you their version is good. I would go back if I ever get to Houston again

We ate at Pappas after 9:30pm on a Saturday night. In most cases, I would expect them to be out of most of their BBQ items and if not, that the food would be not good from sitting all day in steam drawers or under heat lamps. None of this was true on this night. There were 8 of us (4 dads and their sons) and we ate everything from a burger, brisket, sausage, and ribs. All of it was hot, tasted fresh and tasted great. The only thing they were out of that we asked for, was babyback ribs. The brisket, surprisingly, was still very moist, full of smoke flavor, and tender. We had a wide variety of sides and overall, they were a little dissapointing, though that may have well been a result of the time of day it was. We will return to try it again.

We went there last week. And the food was not what we expected. It was not as delicious as in the pictures.

There was a line getting into this place but it was worth the wait we had the rib plate width brisket it was enough for both of us and the price was pretty good also.

We were a group of 5. Pulled pork sandwiches were delicious. Fries were fresh, hot & tasty. 2 got rib plates. Ribs were extremely moist, tender, seasoned just right & delicious. I got the half chicken + 1 rib and the chicken was super moist & delicious. Their side salad is huge compared to other places. The yams were good. The only complaint was a about the beans - 2 of us got them and they were hard and crunchy - very disappointed about that. We would have complained then & there but we were so full and satisfied with the other items. It was worth going for the ribs!

My family enjoyed our meal at Pappas. The cafeteria-style ordering makes it quick to get a hot meal quickly. Friendly service, clean restaurant overall, and generous portions made it an enjoyable evening.

The food was tasty, the decor down home Texas, the decor in the men's room had me in stitches. The portions were ample (our lunch lasted through dinner). Definitely a place to visit if you're into meat.

If you depended on the employees, you were in big trouble. Menu on the wall. Service was Cafeteria style, with condiments on a buffet. Local place and you had to know Texas style and we were from FL. You sat yourself and cleaned up after yourself. Food was great and the cashier was on the BALL. If it hadn't been for her what a mess we would have had. Great Food and I would go back just for the food.

We took a shuttle full of teachers here during a conference and everyone left completely satisfied. We ordered everything from ribs to banana pudding, and it was all divine! Their portions were abundant and the prices were reasonable. This was a great choice for a large or small group!

Our group of 6 persons went to Pappas with a hole in our stomach. Plentiful good food was the result on our table. Chicken, ribs, potatoes and salad was awesome. For a modular restaurant like buffet, the quality was very good. Sitting outside for a diner is always the best, particular in Houston downtown with a nice skyline in front. You need to eat here.

Personally I enjoy the taste of good meat. The flavor of this place is way too smoky for me. After ordering I realized they have a huge sign for "slow smoking it since 1967", but still that doesn't prepare you for how smoky the food is. It's a first and last for me with this place.

I’m a big fan of Bar-B-Q but was disappointed by Pappas. I wasn’t expecting to order cafeteria-style and that wine wasn’t available. The Pork Platter was huge but the meat was just OK. The flavor came from the sauce. The Cole Slaw and Mac ‘N Cheese sides were very good. I probably should have skipped the Pork and gone straight to the Pecan Pie.

I've been going here probably once a week for the past 6 months or so. The food has always good and at a very reasonable price for what you get. Initially, the service was average. On occasion, things would be missing. But I must say this has improved tremendously and the staff are very good and extremely polite.

We've tried several of the entrees at Pappas, but we especially like the pulled pork. However, if you like fries once you've had theirs you will crave them. Papas also has breakfast and the location close to me has a drive thru. This spot has really good selection and convenience so it's a real go to spot for us.

We arrived to our accommodation in downtown Houston around 6pm hungry - asked the locals where to go and this was their recommendation. We know the Pappas range so knew we could rely on it. Good range of options, huge portion size. We weren't hungry for long and the quality of the BBQ is very good. Because of the style of the restaurant you can order your dinner and eat in reasonably quick time, which was what we were seeking given our late arrival and travel we had just done to get to Houston (13 hour flight).

This is another one of those diamonds in the rough that would be rated a five if their food was served at the table rather than in a cafeteria style. Their food is a five, the setting is a two plus but enjoyable because the food is so good!

We ordered ribs. They had good flavor but were tough. The girl who took our order wasn’t friendly, made no suggestions and even got wrong what I did tell her. Tea was mislabeled so we got the wrong thing. The lady taking the money at the end of the counter wouldn’t stay at her post so folks would go to the next register and she would yell—“get him back here—he owes me money!”. Banana pudding was good. BBQ sauce left me wanting more flavor. BBQ beans tasted like chili. Overall just not for me and I dearly love the pappas franchise.

We were recommended by a local to go and try the brisket, and BBQ’d meats, so we did, restaurant was happy, clean and bubbly, our servers were happy, smiley and helpful, then the food came and it was amazing, the brisket was perfect the ribs were perfect, the sides were awesome!! Could not fault anything, wish we had them in Australia! Thank you so much, my last night in Houston was perfectly finished off with this meal, you all are absolute ROCKSTARS!

Went here for dinner with family, wow some amazing tender brisket. Generous portions, I would highly recommend this BBQ place. They even had ice cold beer to wash it down. Macaroni salad, coleslaw, and ranch style beans awesome.

We've gotten BBQ from here several times, but this time our Pulled Pork had lots of fat. I got the Green Beans as a side and was VERY disappointed. My potato salad was pretty good. Husband sides were slaw, which he liked and BBQ beans which were just average.

Ordered the Cobb Salad. Includes chicken, sausage, beef. No beef asked if I could have double meat. The server bought the salad with scanty amount of chicken and sausage. I asked about the extra chicken. He reluctantly added a tiny piece, $10.95. Poor service!

It was my first time to a Pappas and I was a little confused as to the process. The person taking the order was not forthcoming in how to order or offering any suggestions. I went with a sausage sandwich and it ended up being a good decision. Although, I wanted a side but was not offered one, the person behind the sides walked completely away. When I got to the register the woman working there was fantastic, she seemed to want to make up for the other workers.

We loved the food here and the atmosphere. Parking was a little tight. I happy that security was on site. We had the Pork ribs & sliced beef plate & the Chicken & linked sausage plate with one jumbo soda. It was $26.25 with tax. It was really good & was alot of food. They also have the pickles, tea, bbq sauce available for self serve.

Ate at Pappas BBQ three months ago. We were told this was a good BBQ place and we were looking for good BBQ since we were in Texas. My pulled pork was so dry and no flavor whatsoever. Everytime i took a bite my mouth would get drier with every chew. The two sauces were terrible as well. The one that was claimed to be hot tasted like burnt spaghetti sauce. My wife had beef brisket and claimed it was dry as well. We were very disappointed since Texas is suppose to have a claim on good BBQ. I think the McRib sandwich is better than Pappas.
Good BBQ
Pulled Pork sandwich was a meal itself. Drinks a little pricey but what do you expect for a downtown big city.
