Want a down-home place in the middle of Houston's madness, to have a really nice un pretentious meal? I recommend Pappy's. I have a lot of fond memories of this place through the years, starting in the late '90's. The food is good American fare, and service is always on the mark. Staff always gives a predictable experience, and the menu is really nice. I strongly recommend the glazed salmon (my favorite). The garlic mashed potatoes are good too. Green beans just like mom used to make. Pappy's is a hop and a skip away if you live in Houston's west side, and it has not been swallowed up and destroyed by the growth of the big city.

WoW! Everything was excellent! Don’t miss that place! It is amazing! We had cesar salad, catfish, key lime pie! For sure if we come back to Houston will be back!!!

Excellent menu choices, great tasting food, loved the fried shrimp especially. The salads are the bomb! Loved the tortilla soup too. I highly recommend this restaurant, the staff are so nice.

Pappy's is our go-to place. We eat there all the time. They have fantastic burgers, excellent chicken tenders and wonderful quesadillas. It's an eclectic menu with something for everyone and there are always specials. Don't miss their fried pickles! Pappy's has a full bar with drink specials nightly. The atmosphere is a combination of sports bar and family diner. There are televisions in every corner and interesting memorabilia on the walls. The service is always friendly and prompt. Issues are dealt with immediately but there usually aren't any. They handle special requests with ease. And the place is kid friendly too. There's plenty of free parking and even some video games that will have the kids begging for quarters. You'll love it there.

My favorite dish here is creamed spinach, so I always have it as a side. Hamburgers are good, on a sweetish roll, and done as requested. Love the chicken Florentine. Fries are really good with a few fried peppers on top. Lots of kids earlier in evening. Popular neighborhood place. Plenty of parking in back. Good deserts, fun place. Lots of pictures of cowboys and western movies.

The food was bland and brought out room temp. No one at the table enjoyed any of their food (chicken fried steak, shrimp poboy, fajitas). Salad dressing had no flavor. The gravy on the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes looked like it had been there for hours. When we tried to add salt to our food, the shakers were clogged with damp salt. Then they put a birthday dessert in front of me and charged us for it!!! My nephew said school lunches were better than this food. How’s that for sad.

Their location has moved - they're now at 12313 Katy Freeway, but the phone number's the same, and you can see their photo menu on their website. They have a little bit of everything. I wanted a fruity drink and didn't see anything on the menu that fit the bill, so I told our server what I liked, and he had the bartender make it - it was perfect! (So perfect, in fact, that I had a 2nd!) They have a premium beef product like Kobe or Waygu that they use in their burgers for an additional charge if you so choose (they have a different name for it - I was trying to find the name of it online, but their website does a picture menu rather than a normal written-out menu - which is awesome to help you pick out what you' think you'll like, but not helpful for details). I'd never had it anywhere, and opted to try it here - and it was truly the best burger I've ever eaten. HIGHLY recommend. Hubby liked his shrimp fajitas and my fries, and the fried mushroom appetizer was good. I don't know where they were located before, but I'm glad they moved, because they're just steps from a Hilton Garden Inn we stay at frequently for hubby's business trips, and we'll be back! Great happy hour specials, both for drinks and food. Fun, friendly server made for a great evening all around.

While laying over in Houston for the night, on our way back to Atlanta, we found Pappy's close to our whotel. I checked with the manager, Andy, to see if he could handle a group of 28 on a busy Friday night. He said bring them over & had a spot for me to park my tour bus. I had the Sirloin Steak, Caesar Salad & Baked Sweet Potato....My group leader had the Rib Eye Steak. Everything was cooked right & tasty. The rest of the group totally enjoyed their meal. My server was Bonnie. She was very polite, professional & just a Sweetie. The place was packed & the cooks and servers did an amazing job getting the orders out. Andy runs a great place & his crew is second to none. Everyone was very pleasant, including the staff at the hostess station. Thank you Pappy's for taking care of my group of seniors from Atlanta, Ga.

A little bit of southern comfort and tex mex is what at you'll get at this great little interstate side road stop. From fall off the bone ribs to a great homemade burger you can't miss.

Parents usually like this place a lot. Not tonight. Ordered Chips and queso for app and the chips tasted as if they had been dipped in OLD oil and put in the oven. Smelled and tasted terrible. Lots of chip crumbs we should have sent this back. Grilled chicken salad was good. Husband ordered Catfish Taco. There was not any Catfish...a couple of crumbs of catfish had to look for the fish. another dish we should have sent back. Looked terrible when it was delivered. Parents Chicken finger basket looked good as usual. Lesson learned. Not sure We will ever go back. All Sick after this food. This place needs work. Gross

As good as the reviews said it was. Variety of menu items. Highly recommend the catfish basket !! Service was great and very accommodating

Not fine dining, but a nice place to bring the family or meet some friends. Food is good, margs are good and cheap.

Excellent food. I had the chicken fried steak and was excellent! We were a large group and there were no issues with the attention. I will surely be back!

Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, All the plates were cleaned.. But my chicken tenders were a tad dry.. and they are skimpy on the gravy . but the grilled veggies were great.. and the twice baked potato was perfect..

We came to Pappy's with friends over the holidays. I had the chicken tenders basket, and it came with a large side salad, mashed potatoes, and a tasty honey mustard dipping sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly, was flavorful, and not at all greasy. The side salad was fresh and crisp with a little kick to the Caesar dressing. We all enjoyed our food and the friendly service. Drinks were good as well. There's really something on the menu for everyone, with everything from healthy salads to burgers to Tex Mex. This is a new location for them, and it's an attractive, comfortable space with lots of limestone and Hill Country style. Portions are very generous; I had enough to take home and enjoy another meal. We're very happy to have this spot in the neighborhood and will definitely be back again soon.

I eat lunch here once a week and my entire office staff comes at least once a month. Food and service is terrific. It can get crowded at lunch, so I would recommend arriving between 11:30 and 11:45 but the wait isn't usually too long. The waiters are accommodating - will split the checks. I'm set on the Asian chicken salad and chicken tortilla soup, but their burgers are also excellent. If you are by yourself, sit at the bar for lunch-I've always had good conversation with the people sitting next to me. Huge menu with so many options, everyone will find something they like.

Excellent food in new location! We forgot how great the scorpion tails were. Salads were huge and yummy.

This place was packed for an early lunch but we were seated quickly for a table for 4. We all ordered something completely different and it came out tasting and looking great. I had the bunless wonder which was a beef patty on lettuce, covered with chili and delicious grilled onions with sweet potato fries. I most especially loved the 4 dollar frozen margarita. A great lunch place for a good price!

Pappys is a good place for classic american roadside comfort food. i had a turkey avocado sandwich, recommended by the server, it was good. friendly atmosphere reasonable prices, totally unpretensious, and friendly people. a good inexpensive night out.

Just good food. Burgers, salads, soups, mexican, seafood and even steak. Their veggies are delicious. If you don't like it then let them know & they will usually fix it. Cheap margaritas every day - price has gone up to $4 each -- used to be a lot cheaper. Very casual. Kid friendly. Sports on the tv sets. They don't rush you out. Good desserts too.

Walked in from the hotel nearby where we were staying. Placed our orders to go. Sat and had a cocktail while waiting. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Very relaxed. The food came out in what seemed like no time at all. It was delicious. Order the fried onions. Yummy!

Had not been to the original Pappy's in quite a while. For some reason not on the radar, but never had a bad meal experience. The opening of their new place in the previous Texas Land and Cattle space just east of Dairy Ashford at I-10 gave us an excuse to make the trip. Broad menu with something for everyone - simple, home-style food. Same good chicken finger basket. Spouse had a salad with grilled shrimp. Plenty of perfectly grilled shrimp - not rubber nor translucent - on a well constructed lettuce salad. Service at lunch was outstanding, even with every table taken and people waiting.

Visited this place in two occasions, being unimpressed during our first visit. Drinks are ok and service is rather slow, when at the tables!. Food is average. For our second visit we sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks and food served very fast and professionally by Dawana! boy, she really is a pro and enjoys her work!!. We ordered the combo, ribs and chicken, and enjoyed it!

Very affordable. The food was great. Good service. We went at noon and the parking lot was full. Had to find a spot on the street behind the restaurant.

Terrible Food, Noisy. Food was greasy. Made my stomach hurt. Maybe the cheese dip was old or the grease on chips. Will not go back.

Pappy's Café used to be great! one of my Favs. Now Slop food! Portions half sized and served COLD! AVOID!

As always food was delish, we missed Daniel as our server. Love the scorpions only they were definitely extra spicy this time.

We have been going to Pappy's as a staple for almost 20 years. This place is as close to Cheers (Norm!) as you will find in Houston. Some of the staff have been there for as long as we have been going. The owners seem to always be there with a smile and super friendly. Great bar, peanuts on the floor, super service. And - this is the best hamburger in town - greatest bun. Don't miss and relax.

I had passed by Pappy's on I-10 in Houston many times and always wondered why there were no cars in front. That's USUALLY a sign there is a problem with the place. Boy, was I fooled! The back parking lot was FULL and running over. Actually, we had to wait for about 20 minutes for a place to park! That's a great sign! We were there during the lunch rush and had to wait about 20 minutes. While you wait, you can stay at the bar or sit in chairs or benches toward the back very comfortably. My friend had the daily special which was the meatloaf served with a salad and creamy homemade mashed potatoes. She had enough to take home for supper! I ordered the onion rings to start us off and wow.... SUPER. My lunch was Asian Chicken Salad. I actually did not like the dressing and it was my fault since I should have asked to have it on the side. I ended up picking out the oranges and chicken and enjoying that. We had a very attentive server that didn't hover but keep us happy. Great place and I will go back.

this is a nice cozy place to bring the kids or have a nice lunch date great hamburgers and really good onion rings the fries are very good also

I’ve been coming here for almost thirty years. Food and service is still great ... just not the same. It’ll take time to adjust to this new building. Not as cozy. Not as much character. ☹️

Great local family restaurant. I always have the grilled catfish. We've taken out of town guests here as well & they loved it! This is my 6 year olds favorite restaurant!

Had a large variety of different types of food, American, Mexican, etc. Service was very good and walking distances from two hotels which was very nice.

Hungry for a "Good" Chicken Fried Steak or a "Good" Burger? This is the place to satisfy your craving. Large portions of good food. Fries are good (ask for poblano peppers with the fries) but the onion rings might be better. Frozen margaritas $4.

Pappy's is The Best! Go early, park even in the Reserved Spaces out front, and be prepared for your taste buds to accelerate right back again! Find Terry, and your service will be undeniably a Memorial affair!

Headed to a lunch meet 08/24. Seating at 11:40 was quick and reception was warm and welcoming. Service was on top of it's game. Grilled chicken salad was fresh, good sized and tasty. Hamburger/fries were also solid. Both plates were a respectable value and had good taste. Parking has always been difficult, but arrive early. Would go again.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Not only was the food and atmosphere incredible but our waiter Terry made it a really fun dining experience. Be prepared to pay a very fair price and to take food home. The portions are huge! My ribs were so tender they literally fell off the bone. My partners chicken was mouthwatering tender and delicious. Really looking forward to going back again!

Terrible service, ridiculous wait due to insufficient waitstaff for Sunday lunch crowd. Once finally seated, no refills, no check backs, nothing. Had to ask several times for the check. Food is not good. Simply not good.I had chicken and sausage, which is the smallest piece of sausage, and the thinnest chicken breast ever. Taste was good, just not much there, which was better than the bland and also paper thin chicken fried steaks they brought out.Never again! They also had a homeless man out front greeting every guest. I mean every guest. He came inside during our lengthy wait,a and cleared out the benches already full with others waiting to be seated. The original location, East of this one, was good...consistently good. We'll never know if this one gets any better.Too many choices with similar menu offerings and better portions/taste/service. Never again.

The food here is pretty good. But if you want service, this is not the place. Especially when it's early afternoon. We were halfway thru our meal when somebody FINALLY decided to remove our dirty salad dishes. The help just kept walking by the table and not taking any dishes off. When they brought our check, the dirty dishes stayed on the table. I guess when you have 2" long fingernails, you don't want to break them. FYI - there were only 4 table of people in the restaurnat

This is the kind of place to go with friends when no one can seem to agree on what to eat! A real Texas treat! You will have plenty of options to choose from, and the service and food is superb!

The locals who know this place love this place. I stop by every time I can. First time trying the shrimp enchiladas, they were amazing! With a crawfish bisque. Oh yeah. And they're pushing cheesecake today. Hmmm....

Had a small group and we were hungry, just started to Goode & Co. but saw Pappy's first and it looked intriguing....what a great move!! What a neat place, just a nice neighborhood feel and a menu so full of delicious "Comfort Food" that I wish I could spend about 12 hours just chowing down on their stuff. I wanted a Burger, but my conscience said BLT, w/ Potato soup, the soup was superb, as was the BLT, wish I ordered it on Sourdough tho, good fries too. Friends had catfish baskets, & . loved them, two others had the catfish tacos, and cleaned their plates. My friend gave me a thumbs up for choosing this place, and if you are in the neighborhood, this is an absolute must stop! Good food, large portions!

You can't beat 2 margaritas, a grilled chicken salad, kids chick tenders, fries and cinnamon apples all for under $20. Place has charm and prices are modest, to go or dine in, we love it for our hood.

Been going to Pappy's a really long time since my kids were little - they are now 38 and 35 and we are taking the young grandkids now successfully. Nice adult menu, small kids menu with the typical kids food, and a bar. They have high chairs for toddlers available. The servers are patient and helpful, kids get colors and a menu to color on. Fairly quick meal service and good food overall. We like sitting in the large oversize booths away from the central dining area. Good place for the kids.

We wanted to try the new location at I10 and Dairy Ashford. It’s still the same good old comfort food. Good family restaurant. Great kid place.

This is a charming restaurant with delicious food. The wait staff are very friendly and helpful. Our waitress knew the menu well and could make good suggestions. My husband commented "This is a restaurant you'd expect in a town like Brenham".

Plain and simple comfort food that is worth the drive. BIG chicken fried steak, reasonable prices and dang good food. Yes they are moving with no new known location. Eat there!!

We went in with no prior knowledge of the place and were very pleased! I had the fried pork special and it resulted in a thick chop, butterfried so it was very large, fried to perfection, not dry.. highly recommended!

While at the hotel we were searching for a place to eat dinner. We googled restaurants and Pappys was close so we went with it. I'm glad we did. The food is amazing. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks, they make a killer bloody mary. The food is by far the best I have had in Houston. It was so good we ordered two more dinners to bring back to the hotel for later. Staff was friendly also. If I 'm back in Houston again, there is no question where I will go for dinner.

After a long day of shuttling the kids around to game after game, we were looking for something simple and settled on the Mason Jar. As we were walking up and peering in the window, the crowd looked a little...well, "older". Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it kinda made us pass judgement like it was a lubys or Denny's. Right next door we saw a place called "pappy' bar and grill". Great choice! Kids had chicken tenders, my wife had a mushroom burger and I had the shrimp and grits. Chicken was breaded in a perfectly seasoned breeding, and the bun on the burger tasted homemade. The grits...oh the grits! They were very cheesy and thick, like you could eat them with a fork instead of a spoon. The shrimp were blackened with a cayenne pepper mix that made the perfect amount of hot. We also had fried pickles which were a little greasy, but what do you expect from something that isn't meant to be fried? It was a huge basket though. It was enough for all four of us to have plenty. To top it all off, our waitress Gina was very sweet, staying on top of our drinks and talking to us like family. I only wish I had left room for the key lime pie she was pushing. Overall, I'd go back if my travels take me close to the area.

I went there on Thursday because I have been wanting some good ole fashion chicken fried steak. Went to Pappy's because of the reviews. I have eaten a lot of chicken fried steak in my time. This place was mediocre at best. The chopped steak that they use for the chicken fried steak was blade and has way too much breading on it. Will not be going back to Pappy's.

What a disappointment. The best part of our meal was a good waitress. We were looking for an alternative to Chili’s because we go there so often, so we tried Pappy’s on I10 at Dairy Ashford. My food: The salmon was smelly; very fishy and old tasting with a sauce that was way too sweet. The broccoli was served in one large clump - I’ve never seen this done before, as if they just chopped a head of broccoli in fourths and served the fourth whole. The smashed potatoes were just ok. My wife’s food: Her grilled shrimp also tasted very fishy and tough as though it was old. Her broccoli was at least served in pieces vs. one large clump. Her rice was the best part of her meal. Our son’s food: His cheeseburger was the greatest disappointment, and he loves cheeseburgers. The bun was sweet and looked nothing like a 'normal' hamburger bun. The hamburger meat itself was ok albeit very salty. The worst cheeseburger he has ever eaten, period. The mac & cheese side was the best part of his meal . We’re not sure if it was the chef or the general method of preparation and cooking but this will be the first and only time we will frequent Pappy’s Café.

I have been coming here since I was young. The food is excellent and the wait staff are all very quick and nice. In all the times I've been here I've never had a problem. Even when the place is very crowded they manage to get the food out on time. They decor is also very cool. Its all pictures from old western movies and old west memorabilia. If your looking for a nice Texas lunch or dinner, I would highly recommend Pappy's

Go on a weekend when its pork chop special day. A bunch of grub.. This place also is fried food central with great CFS and fries.

Great menu...terrific prices.....try the margarita......Tex mex...chicken fried steak. Great salads and chopped steaks

Great local and family restaurant in a big city! The staff are as loyal as the customers. Everything is home made including the salad dressings to the soups to the desserts. Be sure to try the baby back ribs and mashed potatoes with their white gravy finished with his peach cobbler. If you are lucky you will have Terry as your waiter! If you dine at the bar, everyone there will be like an long lost friend and Tywanna is the greatest bartender in town.

My son-in-law and I were looking to a lunch spot in the area and when we drove by this spot, I thought it was my kind of place. Sure enough, it was. Excellent food, good service and a cool atmosphere added up to be a great choice.

When you first walk in you get the feeling you're in a country store, the wait is minimal 15 min, considering the restaurant was full, from the hostess, waiter and lady who picks up the dishes at your table, never a sad, tired, dull, attitude. All seemed Happy to be There and treat you as if you were there long lost friend!! Service is Great, waiter was most attentive and friendly, waters and appetizers ,quickly served, waiter even brought a sample of the rice and jalapeno sauce they served cause he overheard me ask my husband,i wondered if the sauce may be too spicy as i looked over the menu. Drinks were great Hubby ordered the cranberry long island,me the rum drink called cape cod..Food exceptionally good and for those healthy eaters they have plenty on the menu for you as well....we will be back, prices reasonable and a variety of comfort food choices.

This is the place to go for comfort food. The menu is extensive and has a little of everything. The staff is friendly and service is fast. Highly recommended!

Stayed in Houston for business for 10 days and went here at least 5 nights. Menu of Texas “comfort” food was excellent, but what was even better was the atmosphere. Busy every night and grwat energy from the staff. Lots of laughter and you can tell everyone is having a good time. I sat at the bar a few times and one of the bartenders (can’t remeber her name) was spectacular. She ran that bar like there was 5 people there... all with a smile and remembering everyone’s name, orders, and preferences. Definitely will be back.

Pappy’s had a long menu with a lot of options, including options native to South Texas with Enchiladas, Tacos, and Chicken-Fried Steak and Chicken. The prices were very inexpensive. I ordered a half rack of ribs and a Chicken Breast. I had the seasonal vegetables and the Texas Smashed Potatoes, which I really enjoyed. The portions were large, and the food was good. Service was very good.

Chicken tender basket with a few additional fried veggies on top. My go to order that is never wrong at one of my favorite restaurants in Houston!

Gotta be one of the worst experience at the bar. Can’t believe how some of these places stay in business with lousy service. Had to ask 2-3 times to get anything. Food was so-so, maybe because it was frustrating before the food.

The kobe beef burgers (and the Sheila Partin buns they're served on) are just the best anywhere. I am totally spoiled by these and have never found anything anywhere that comes close. When I'm not in a mood for a burger (which is a rare occasion), I love their Malibu salad with the peanut lime dressing. So delicious! Also, love, love, love their frozen margaritas - only $2.50 all day every day! (I almost never drink margaritas at any other restaurant) Delicious, and the price makes them taste even better :)

We saw this place on a list of the best chicken fried steaks in Texas. Is was good, but the best. Kinda small considering everyone else has them flowing off the plate. We were not impressed with the Texas Nachos. Both dishes were enough to share.

Had dinner here as it was next to our hotel. Good menu choice with enough to choose from. Decent price and good beer. Service was quick and attentive. Authentic American feel.

Down home comfort nestled on the Katy Freeway feeder. A hostess stand greets you as you walk inside with booths and tables available as seating. We were seated shortly after arriving. A friendly waitress took our orders for a taco salad and quesadillas. A short while later our meals came. We were pleased with the flavor of our food. A great lunch spot and reasonable prices for your budget. This is a good choice for families and friends alike.

Had a great time. Excellent service and my favorite restaurant! Pappy's is the best! Love all the food they serve here! :)

Nice menu selection of burgers, chicken fried steak, salads, Mexican food and seafood. Friendly staff. Usually busy with a wait on occasion

The food it's excellent and service too. Quesadilla with fajita a very tasty plate. Quick service, just in the morning during weekend it might be a bit slow but it's understandable since the place it's packed.

We really enjoyed our dinner. It’s home-cooking done right. I had the salad with fried chicken and it was great and the dressing was fresh and delicious. Our son had the chicken nuggets and a yummy chocolate milkshake and loved it. It was not frozen chicken. My husband had chicken fried steak and home-made peach cobbler. There was something for everyone. The wait staff was very good. I will venture out and try new things now that I know it’s fresh made. They are moving, but not far. So glad! I’m so tired of chains and frozen food.

Owner is very disrespectful to the employees steals money from the servers to pay the other employees.... Imitation crab meat a lot of things are microwaved to be reheated.... Then serve to the customer

Had dinner in Pappy's cafe twice. Crowded place which is a good sign. A wide variety of US and Mexican dishes on the menu but nothing extra-ordinary on the menu. Fajitas were delicious and the IPA beer was cold. The 2 peppers that came as a side were extremely spicy...so be careful. Staff is friendly but they can be a bit more professional.

Great lunch experience - food was good and our server was excellent! Perfect restaurant for kids! Chicken fried steak was the special and it was huge! Blackened catfish and southern sides were great too! Didn't try the desserts because we were too full, but they looked delicious! Will definitely be back!!

I have tried this place three times since it has moved and yes the food is pretty good but the service is some of the worst in the city. The first time I just marked it up to being in a new location. The second time was like the first but worse. I walk in and of course have to wait five minutes for the hostess to wrap up her conversation with one of the waiters. Then When a waiter does finally take my order they bring out the food incorrect THREE TIMES! Now I just ordered the chicken strips with onion rings (BTW the second best onion rings in Houston, very good) but they still managed to mess it up three straight times, so I just left. Let me add the place was not busy at all, in fact it never seems busy like the previous location, now I know why. So I go back on a Thursday evening...same thing thing. I have to wait at the hostess stand forever, I can see the hostess slumped over chatting with a waiter. Oh well, Ill just sit at the bar, maybe, just maybe it will have better service WRONG! I sit down at the filthy bar, again only two other people there. Its has dirty glasses and dirty dishes stacked up and the bar is full of crumbs and condensation from all of the half drank and abandoned glasses. Again its difficult to get the bartenders attention. I didn't get her name but will describe her later so the owner knows who I'm talking about, if he even cares. I'm at a spot so I can see the TV for the TNF game, I order a Lone Star and she finally drops it off and its warm, I mean basically hot. I tell her and she looks at me like I'm crazy, she walks over to the beer tub and squawks "There all hot!" Then asks if I still want it?? LOL Uhhhh I say No and order something else. I knew i needed to give her my order before she disappeared. Again, chick stripes an onion rings. As I'm taking a napkin and cleaning the bar myself I ask her wheres the bathroom. Its literary next to the bar...so I go to wash my hands from the filth she has going on at the bar. I leave my drink and my utensils there and leave for maybe 60 seconds to wash up. I return and a couple, seemed like regulars are plopped in my place and the lady slides my drink just out of her way(Maybe they chose that spot because it was the only halfway clean at the bar to sit, thanks to me doing her job). So anyway the bartender is yucking in up and taking there order!! Hello!!!! Tell them someone is sitting there and already placed an order!!! So I just shake my head and leave, just to waste more food because of the defective staff they have! I will not be back. Just so ya know the bartender is a short heavy set female with dark hair and way too much eyeliner on...shouldn't be hard to know which one she is. Its sad and I hate seeing what was a good place go downhill in a new nice facility because of bad management and poor staff. Please excuse typos I"m send from my phone.

We went here after seeing them on Good Taste tv show and it didn't disappoint. The food was very good and the staff was very friendly. We will be coming here again even though it's a 45 minute drive for us each way. We also got "stung" by the Scorpion Tails appetizer which were really good and well prepared. I can't wait to eat here again!

Mixed menu, nothing unique, a good cheap drop in place. Service was so so, drinks ok. Nothing sets it apart other than close to the hotel I stayed at. Likely not go back. Ho hum kind of place.

super nice new location at Dairy Ashford. Food Great and parents favorite waiter. Chips and queso delicious. Grilled Chicken Salad, Catfish Dinner and Baskets all good food. Best server with a GREAT jolly attitude. I wish I could remember his name. Look forward to returning. Bar & TV's with all the sports games on for the guys! Looked like a nice bar. Lots of folks order breakfast for lunch. Looked great.

This is a great place! We came here for lunch while passing through, and were very impressed. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty. They have all sorts of South Texas Tex-Mex as well as "meat and potatoes" standards, steaks, and -- of course -- catfish. I tried the special -- meatloaf, and was very pleased. Prompt service, friendly waitress, large portions, great taste. Will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

Had the Chicken tender platter and there was so much food I had to take some to go for later. The server was wonderful, the restrauant was clean. I would go back.

Pappy's does a good job of providing basic american food and tex mex for good prices in a relaxed setting. The Texas nachos with chicken are yummy. This is not a fancy restaurant, but if you are looking of "Chili's" level food that is a lot better than Chili's and not a chain, you found it!

We decided to visit a long time favorite restaurant of ours, on our way home from the convention center. The food was consistent with what we remember...good southern comfort food! We had the fried pickles (some of the best in the area), chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Our meal was only dampened by the unwelcoming hostess. She obviously did not want to be working on a Saturday night...they might need to look again at who is responsible for making the first impression of their restaurant.

Every item we had was delicious. We started with spicy scorpion tails. Yummy! The main courses we had were a deluxe chicken sandwich, Bubbas chicken, and shrimp & grits. All were excellent.

Pappy's has some of the best ribs I've ever eaten. I always order the rib and sausage plate, and am never disappointed. The shrimp and grits are very good, too. Do try the strawberry jalapeno Margarita. It's a little different with a bit of a kick. Service is sometimes a bit slow but is always cheerful and friendly.

This place feels like your eating at Mom's kitchen. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable and went out of his way to get samples of thier signature foods, all of which was delicious. My wife had a strawberry - jalapeno margarita which she loved. This is a great place at great, make sure Jose waits on you.

We've been here for dinner, and we were here for Sunday Brunch this morning. If you like food southern cooking by a favorite relative, this is as close as you can get. Last time, there were 3 of us. We had beef fajita quesadillas, baby back ribs and grilled chicken salad with red wine vinegar and oil (they have other salads with various dressings). Quite a variety of choices and all excellent. We also shared a key lime pie, but it tasted so good, we got two more. Better than Key West because it's not tart (but some people like tart), it's creamy. This morning, we had pancakes, eggs florentine (except they called it something else), country breakfast (the usual eggs, potatoes, meat and bread breakfast), omelet and eggs with chicken friend chicken. Our six plates were all empty by the time we left. They even make good coffee despite only serving breakfast one day a week. Great family restaurant since both times, the kids ate everything. If you're watching your calories, they have salads. If your companion wants delicious southern food (which is never low calorie), neither of you will be disappointed. This restaurant has been in business since 1983 and it's easy to taste why including the incredibly low price this morning for breakfast of 6.

If you ain't white, don't go here.

A nice place to go with a group or friends when you are not sure what kind of food they like or don't like as the case might be. They have a wide selection of "comfort food". Selections range from burgers, sandwiches, chicken fried steak, ribs and steaks to Texmex. The place has kind of a Chili's or sports bar vibe. All of this is fine but fairly average. Pros: Wide selection of food - so something for everyone. They have a full bar. Cons: Everything ins average. My wife's shrimp and grits was "fine". My quesadillas were fine. The Bourbon BBQ ribs were "good". Average is not that bad.

We wanted a good quick meal and were not disappointed. The menu has something for everyone from steaks, chicken, burgers and salads to Mexican dishes. The Kobe beef burgers are very good. The meat was cooked just right and the sour dough bun was excellent. Overall it was a very good experience.

If you are looking for good food and fast friendly service than this is the place to check out. The server was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was ready before we finished the appetizer and everything tasted very good. The menu has plenty to choose from and you will not be disappointed.

Ok, so it took many years of passing Pappy's by on the freeway and a customer of mine to get me to try it. Now, I eat there probably once a month. I've had probably ten different items off of the menu and several daily specials. Everything is always good and they seem genuinely happy to have you there. This place is no secret however. I'm one who takes clients to lunch and dinner 4-5 times a week and always aim for an 11am or maybe 11:30am lunch. I suggest this timeframe for Pappy's, they do get busy but the wait isn't too long from what I've seen. Make time to visit

My wife, daughter, 1 year old grandson stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. The food was great: chicken fried steak, shrimp and grits, and blackened catfish. All were very good and reasonably priced, less than $50 for the mentioned food. The atmosphere was great for family. The service was very good. They moved from their original location after the Harvey flood. This location is much better parking and access.

My husband and I eat here all the time; mainly for lunch. We love the service re receive from the staff here; always friendly and accomodating. It's a great place for a filling lunch-and their lunch specials are always diffferent. Last time I got the lunch special it was called "King...Enchilada" Fabulous...but it was more of a casserole-but the staff let me know what it was. IT was delecious! One of my favs to order here is their chicken tenders, burgers, heck-everything!

Full disclosure, this was our second trip here within 9 months. Now I remember why it’s been so long for this 2nd trip. Very poor service, mediocre food and worst of all they honor a certain clientele and put the rest of the folks in the very very back of the restaurant. The fried shrimp was over fried and the catfish was undercooked. My hubby chicken fried steak was large but low on taste. The salad was limp. Disappointed is an understatement but rest assured I will never step in this establishment again. Not only was the food and service subpar, but I didn’t appreciate being placed in the back when others were seated in the front row if you catch my drift. Not being made welcome is not how you treat paying customers.

First impression very service oriented establishment! Greeted very warmly at the door and it continued throughout the meal. Our server was excellent! We had an appetizer, drinks, meatloaf special was amazing and the cobbler divine!! Wonderful food and exceptional service makes for a great time out!!

Everything on the menu is good, some offerings are even great. From the salads to the chicken and sausage plate to the sandwiches. Regardless of what you order, you can't go wrong. The service is always friendly and dependable. It does seem to take a little longer than usual to get your food, but quality doesn't happen fast. Great bar as well.

Been coming to Pappy's a few times a month for the past 15 years. You can always count on good comfort food and friendly service. The fried shrimp basket is huge and yummy. The grilled chicken salad is super tasty as well. Try and save room for the blackberry cobbler with ice cream, there is no better in town!

We recently visited Pappy’s for a weekday lunch at their new location (Katy Freeway @ Dairy Ashford). The food and service were very good—prices are very reasonable. I think the new location is bigger, but wish the parking lot was roomier. We will definitely return. The menu has a lot of variety. Portions are generous.

I ate at Pappy's Cafe twice while in Houston for business. Good comfort food with an extensive menu. Service was always great.

Seated at the bar, waiter was very nice. Food came very quickly even a bit too fast as no time to get first dish done before next one. Food was very good, chicken breast was very well cooked.

The location is good for me. The prices are fair. There are menu items that I like. The restaurant had a good feel and there were a lot of people there. The food, however, was just ok. We started with the Spinach artichoke dip and I didn't even want a second bite. I got the shrimp tacos and while the shrimp itself was good and it was a fair portion, the rest of the plate didn't come together. I just ate the shrimp. I almost ordered the chicken fried steak but was glad I didn't after trying my boyfriends. It kind of remined me of school cafeteria food.

All Good Food and consistent. Chicken Finger Basket parents share. App of chips and queso large portion recommend sharing. Fresh Salads and delicious Shrimp Basket. Food portions are large which is something to consider. Bar with TV's. Noisy. Outstanding Service and super accommodating to mature guest. Sweet.

Small venue, but food good. Had the ribs which looked and tasted delicious. Service was good too. All in all, a very pleasant experience. I would go back again.

Many places stumble when they have a menu as large and varied as Pappy's, but this established Katy Fwy. cafe delivers well on its promise of "Texas Comfort Food" no matter what you order. Add a full bar with a {slightly} above average beer selection, and you have a good place to meet friends or family for lunch and dinner.

We enjoyed it so much we ate here two nights in a row. We each had seafood both nights and all the dishes were delicious. Service was very efficient and friendly. Average prices for the meals and service. Appeared to follow all the COVID protocols. Definitely recommend.

They even split our bills. The servers were awesome, getting our "asked for items" promptly. Food was good & generous. Great prices on speciality drinks too.

My husband and I went tonight for the first time since they moved to this location. HUGE mistake. Worst service, worst food, and entirely too noisy. We had to finally call over the manager to let them know that our server disappeared and never came back. The chicken tenders were very greasy and the smash potatoes were horrible. The Caesar salad was decent but we prefer having everything taste good. Thank goodness the manager did not give us a bill because I think you realize how upset we were. There are definitely better restaurants to dine at

Enjoyed a lunch with family while visiting Houston. Pappy’s has an attentive , friendly staff. I had the Texas enchiladas while others in the group had grilled catfish tacos, cheese enchiladas, fried shrimp, and child’s hotdog. We topped off the meal with apple pecan cobbler and a scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. We will be back!

We went to Pappy's for dinner. The food was very good as was the service. It was a quite enjoyable evening. Pappy's is well worth a visit.

We took our two young grandsons there for dinner one night - you can count on chicken nuggets or tenders and macaroni and cheese for these guys. They were happy! My husband had the hamburger and I just ordered a glass of wine, because I figured I could get by on the scraps left from the kids. Yep, I was right - perfect order for me. We have been going to Pappy's for 35 years when it was in the original location. This restaurant is nicer than the original just further away from our house, but it's also next to the gymnastics studio where the kids practice. We will be back! Oh! and the service was great. We didn't wait long for our order and the young girl waiting on us was pleasant and efficient.

It's simple: you'll love this place. Good comfort food and burgers---especially those sweet sourdough buns (maybe from Sheila Parton?). Everything is yummy and there a daily specials as well. Problem: this restaurant is closing soon and reopening about 15 minutes west on I-10 at Dairy Ashford. Since this is closer to us, we're really pumped!

I have seen Pappy's Grill next to Katy freeway for decades, but never tried them. Man, I didn't know what I was missing! From the salad to the chicken fried steak, I was amazed! The salad was the crispest, best tasting, freshest salad I have ever had. The chicken fried steak was HUGE! It is somewhat rare that I have leftovers, especially chicken fried steak. The onion strings, thin onion rings, have that good old fashioned country taste. Service is excellent and everyone from the hostess, the waitress, and even the cook had an upbeat and friendly attitude. It may seem that the prices are steep, but the quality and quantity of the food more than makes up for them. The restaurant is clean and decorated with country artifacts. I even saw one of the old stick ponies that I had as a kid! As a personal bonus to me, their company logo is almost exactly the same as one my favorite tattoo! The restaurant is hidden by the freeway on the Eastbound side. The parking lot in front is extremely small, but there is parking behind the restaurant. It has been a very long time since I have had a meal this good!

We had another nice meal at Pappy's with the family. My first in two years. The results pretty much confirmed my prior experience. The Good: I like the western/Texas decor/theme. It's getting a bit dated, but still nice. The menu has an incredible selection from burgers and steaks to enchiladas and pastas. Our server was amazing. I wish that I could remember her name so I could give her an attagirl! The Bad: The food is still fairly average. A decent pasta, decent chicken fried steak. My burger was better than average, but the fries were undercooked and uneatable. Still a nice place for a group, as they will definitely find something to order. Just expect the food to be perfectly average.

A hairy, disappointing experience. Dinner started out questionably when we asked for water with no lemon, and the waiter brought out water WITH lemon. The evening continued when our dinner salads came out, with one of them containing a long, black hair nestled in the lettuce leaves. The salad was sent back and a fresh one was brought out. One would hope that the hair in the salad would be the end of the negatives. However, the food came out soon-after and in one of the steak finger baskets that was ordered was ANOTHER HAIR - this one was a long, white hair. The server said he would bring the manager to our table, but nothing was ever done. Our drinks were never refilled by anyone, and the manager was too busy bartending to come over to our table and apologize. Maybe if he was DOING HIS JOB (which is not bartending), there wouldn't have been hairs in our food. Will not be returning.

There is a huge menu to choose from and everything our party had was really good. If you are ordering starters and mains make sure you go in hungry! They also did a great soup takeaway for lunch.

Was short on time and needed to eat quickly. Stopped right off freeway at Pappy's. Asked if we could get in and out in 30 mins. They said, as long as you don't order anything complicated. We agreed, we ate and were out in 30 mins. And while driving away we commented on how really good the food tasted and how the food being served all around us looked yummy as well. Hope to get back that way!

The new Pappy's Cafe is great. Visited the old Pappy's many times but really like the new location. Chicken fried steak is delicious and can be cut with your fork. Chicken tenders are done perfectly. Burgers are spot on. Onion strings never fail to please. And finally, a star of the show is the $4.00 frozen Margarita (all the time) that is tasty and NOT just lemonade. Service is always good - they are actually glad to see you.

Have eaten here many times in the last year both in small and large groups, great non chain place

After 35 years this establishment still rates excellent! One of our Fav’s Chicken Tender Salad, pick from several home made dressings. Tortilla soup awesome.

I always love coming here. The menu is broad yet friendly. Even the pickiest eaters will be able to find something they will like, yet there is also interesting things for the more adventurous.

This year Pappy's has become a regular stop. I particularly like the salmon and chicken tenders (good honey mustard) and any dish with their cream gravy(I think they use lard, yum). The stuffed jalapeños are tasty. I get a chicken tender salad when I want to pretend to be eating healthy. Oh, and the house 'ritas suit me.
Pappy Rule!
This restaurant is a home-style cooking. I love their Chicken Basket with home made gravy. It been in Memorial City area forever. Great price too!
