Nice contemporary American Grille

By Tim O |

Went here with a group of 6 people during a recent trip to Austin. We made reservations for 7:00 but were delayed due to a late aircraft so we arrived at almost 8:00. They were very accommodating and sat us quickly even thought the place looked pretty busy. We had drinks and a few appetizers before ordering. reasonable selection of local beers poured at just the right temp and some nice wine and cocktail selections. We ordered a few appetizers and all were tasty and well presented. The calamari was done just right, the gnocchi was tasty and the crab fritters were gone in an instant. Dinner was good; tasty and portioned well enough but not what I would consider huge value. We didn't leave hungry. I would recommend the NY strip steak. Service started slow but got better and was overall good. This isn't an intimate place so for a larger group it was terrific... not loud but not quiet either. This part of Austin is funky so you have to appreciate the "weird" as just part of the local charm. Don't be surprised by pan handlers. If you have spent time in any major American city (SF, NY, etc.) even this part of Austin is pale in comparison.

Delicious Food in Perfect Portions

By AltGirlTX |

We had reservations for a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Our server Jaime was very friendly and accommodating with our requests to order everything as shared plates instead of following the menu's coursed layout. But most importantly, absolutely everything we ordered was delicious! The ceviche was fresh, the fries were garlicky and fabulous, the calamari was light with a great dipping sauce, the shrimp & grits were amazing - some of the best "elevated" grits I've ever had, the salmon was cooked perfectly with some of the crispiest skin I've ever had, the asparagus was also cooked to perfection. I can't say enough about how great this food was. The only reasons I didn't give Parkside five stars were 1) the cocktail menu was slightly disappointing. I'm just not cool enough to love gin, whiskey, or bourbon, and Austin loves them right now. 2) The restaurant is way too noisy. It is nothing but hard surfaces wherever you look, and by the time it was 7:45, we were shouting to be heard across our booth. I know it's trendy, but why are we dining with our friends or families if we can't even interact with them? Overall, the food is just so good that I have to say I highly recommend Parkside and will absolutely return.

Unexpected gem on 6th street

By Kathy B |

Fine dining on 6th st in the middle of the bar scene. Who knew? Service was amazing, quick and attentive but not intrusive. Great recommendations on both cocktails and food. Ceviche was good but could have used a little more heat from the peppers. Steak tartare was cut to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The vegetable chowder was the lightest, freshest soup I've had in a long time. My companions both raved about their entrees, the salmon and the tuna. We were way to full to try the dessert, but the menu looked interesting.

Great Atmosphere on Dirty 6 St.

By Bob M |

We had a great meal at Parkside and enjoyed the happening vibe of the place. The food is very gourmet but unlike other places the portions were normal size not tiny. We were there on a Saturday night so it was crowded and that impacted our service a bit. We had to wait on one dinner for about 15 minutes after the rest were served. The staff recognized this and gave us a free appetizer to share which was very appreciated! Parking is tough on 6th street so Ubering is preferred.

Looks good, aints good!

By mgs83 |

Had eaten a lot of BBQ in Austin and plenty of bar food so fancied a change of cuisine and setting. Service was poor and the vibe reflected this. Even if it wasn't for this the Food wasn't worth going back for. It was mid week after New Years which may have been a factor but I was reluctant to pay full price

Great food & drinks.

We had the delicious burger and yummy fresh fries during happy hour for half price. The half price specialty cocktails were very good. The service was excellent! Great restaurant!

Fine dining in a casual atmosphere

By ladytxlonghorn |

My family met up in Austin for my daughter’s 28th birthday and after researching a variety of restaurants with American cuisine that offered a farm-to-table menu, we selected Parkside. To say we were not disappointed would be an understatement; we were highly impressed —- with the food, atmosphere, and the service. First, we didn’t want to get dressed up so we were comfortable in casual summer dresses and the men were in jean or tailored shorts. As many places in Austin, you can dress up or down. The food was both beautifully presented and delicious. We tried the special, duck rice, as an appetizer to share and I’m not sure when i had something that tasty. We also shared a couple of appetizers and each of us got a different entree so we could try them all. We all loved everything we tasted or drank. The price was appropriate for a farm-to-table restaurant with the quality and quantity of food served. This is a fine dining restaurant and as such, your sides and salad are a la carte. Finally, our waiter was Stephen and he was awesome. He was appropriately engaging and humorous. His service was impeccable. Let’s just say I left him one of the best tips I’ve ever given anyone (in terms of percentage). I highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you enjoy a food adventure. Our reservations were at 6:30pm on a Saturday night and it wasn’t loud. In reading some of the other reviews, you may want to plan for an early dinner as we did. It sounds like once the bar gets hopping, it gets kind of crazy...

Tough night all the way around

By Victoria |

We made a last minute reservation on a Saturday night for a table for four and it was a first time visit for all of us as we were in town for a weekend trip. Disappointing food, and rude wait person. Will not return as Austin has too many other great options.

Hreat Happy hour

By melaniecA8907OE |

We stopped there before going to the paramount theatre. We sat at the bar area and had awesome service! We also had oysters (chefs choice), Kamachi and salmon. All were very fresh and yummy!! We are gluten free, so it was great to have Austin Beerworks beer as well. I'd definitely recommend and go again!

Oysters!

By BookMama |

We had only fresh oysters (the Bluepoints were my fave) and martinis--both were delicious, although the latter deserved a bleu-cheese-stuffed olive or two (and none were forthcoming). Our server was a tad on the surly side.

Huge disappointment

By Kellker |

This was not the first celebration we have had a Parkside, but it was by far the worst and I doubt we will be back. I think the chef/owner may be resting on his laurels. Despite notifying them that it was a birthday, we were given a terrible table, in the bar. The rest of the experience was really hit or miss. We were brought the wrong bar order - no big deal. The crab fritters were pretty tasteless, but the oysters were pretty good. The meal took an hour to come out - early evening on a Thursday and neither of us enjoyed our entrees. The fish was overcooked, the included sides mushy and the pork was dry. I will say that the asparagus and fries were perfect, but for $10 each, I pretty much expect that. No one came to check on us until were almost finished with as much of our meal as we were going to eat. The waiter finally seemed the tiniest bit engaged when it was time to pay the check. The whole experience was just hugely disappointing for 180.00 including parking.

Fresh & Exciting food... Even with poor service, still worth a visit!

By MH9727 |

Our server was extremely rude, but the delicious food and bright atmosphere made up for it! The venison entree was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. We tried: potato gnocchi, beet salad, kale salad, venison, side of grilled asparagus. The salads are large and big enough to share (though our waitress advised us otherwise). Definitely try one of the salads!!!! The gnocchi was a perfect size for a small starter; light and fluffy texture..mmmm! The wine menu is well priced with a lot of options- the Malbec went great w/ our dishes. *Service issues: waitress was rude from the start like we were an inconvenience when asking questions. She sprayed cleaner on the table next to us and let it spray onto our table after setting food down. She I'll-advised us on size of dishes- telling us they were small though all were decent, nicely portioned. Rolled her eyes at us more than once. Prior to meal, we had a drink at the bar. Bartenders were friendly. All others seated at bar were fun and seemed like even a great place for singles to grab a drink & food @ the bar seats!!!

Great Business Meal with a Large Group

By Pam M |

Dined upstairs with a large private group and enjoyed several wonderful choices from a selected menu as well as family-style sides. Service was efficient and the cocktail hour preceding the dinner included time on the upstairs covered deck which was lovely despite the rainy weather that weekend. Would return to enjoy the small plates and what I hear is a fantastic happy hour. This was my first visit to Austin but Parkside appeared to be located in a happening part of town with many bars and restaurants, and it was an easy 10-15 minute walk back to the Fairmont Hotel from the restaurant.

Unpredictable food

By Mark S |

I have had great meals but the last meal I had was terrible. The meal was very salty. The fries were so salty, they were inedible. I asked for some new, unsalted fries and got the same salty fries back. I am hoping it is just a bad night.

Excellent food - above the restaurant fray in Austin

By Greg H |

I have been to Parkside on several occasions and have not been disappointed with the quality of the food. A cut above other Austin restaurants. Interior is "old Austin" in a refurbished building on 6th Street. Only complaint is that it can get loud at times.

Good food but really loud

By cjordan20901 |

We dined ( 8 of us) here on a girls weekend trip to Austin. The atmosphere is quaint but the acoustics are really less than ideal for conversation. We sampled the calamari and the pretzel for appetizers and they were good. Our entrees seemed to take quite a while but all enjoyed them. I am gluten free and had no issues ordering here. ps- my friend had the fried egg sandwich for dinner and said it was the best fried egg sandwich in her life!

Ideally Located

By Jonathan P |

Been here twice now. Both times were great. They have a large wine and drink section. Decent beer selection but that could be better. Food and service was great each time. Directly on 6th street so it's a good place to start your night. I'd I had a complaint other than beer selection, I would say it can get very loud. Not a lot of textiles to dampen the sound. Regardless, it should be on your list for upscale dinners in Austin.

Great food and atmosphere

By HollyTravels365 |

All the appetizers and entrees sampled by my group of 4 were outstanding. Good selection and a lot of classics with a twist. Great drink choice but the waitstaff was a little slow. The atmosphere is trendy and modern. Not the best for kids

Unhappy 🙁

By Shawn K |

The service was terrible. QR codes worn out and bartender didn't care too help us or not. Waitress didn't care either, we got up and left. Plenty of other nice places, go find one. We did!

Very very over priced

By Brian_dublin33 |

We just had dinner here and we found the food very overpriced for what we got. Many better places in Austin.

Nice food and great restaurant fitout

By Ben M |

Service and food was good. For America, the portions were on the smaller size but normal size for the rest of the world. Good selection of beer

Excellent food, nice ambience, friendly service

By RP_traveller_2013 |

Had dinner at Parkside with a colleague during a recent conference in Austin on a Friday night. There was a 45 min wait for a table so we chose to sit at the bar which offered a full dinner menu. Our servers were very friendly and knowledgeable and the service was quite prompt. I had the kale salad and the tofu entrée, both of which were very flavourful! I was surprised at how good the tofu dish was, given that we were in Austin of all places! It was great to watch the semi-final of the world series on the tv screen at the bar, and the waitstaff didn't mind that we waited till the end of the game, even though we were finished out meal. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake with blackberry icecream which was quite decadent! I would recommend this place for dinner.

Great cocktails, rooftop off limits to

By bethfell |

My crew totally enjoyed the 'Cool but Rude', 'Fight or Flight', and 'Parkside 78'. Plus, it was happy hour so all drinks were half off! Sadly, we couldn't go to the roof top, it's only available for private parties.

Amazing food, impeccable service

By AmyLoverOfSun |

We have stopped in here two nights in a row now for drinks and appetizers. The service is always great and the food is amazing. We have had the calamari (second best I've ever had), fried tomatoes (best ever), butternut squash soup (best ever), and a few other things. It's a beautiful place and as mentioned earlier, the food is spectacular.

Great But Limited Menu

By Brian B |

We stumbled onto Parkside and it turned out to be a nice restaurant for dinner. My wife enjoyed some oysters and there was a good selection to choose from. Their dinner menu is limited but I found a handful of items that were apealing. I settled on the pork chop and wasn't disappointed. I would have rated Parkside a 5 except that my wife's meal wasn't great. She had the risotto. They had the best bread!

Overpriced

By Kev K |

Overpriced for standard of food & service ,staff very distant and non interested. Nice decor but wouldn't come back

Food was Amazing

By Thetipsydutchman |

Great location right on the corner of 6th Street. Great foot traffic. Food is amazing. Ceviche is the best. Best I've ever had. My wife doesn't even like seafood, and she loved it. Had a little kick to it. Wine selection was great, and the rest of their menu is top notch. Great vibe and décor on the inside. The restaurant is separated with ease between the bar, lounge area, and the restaurant area.

Bone marrow is a must!

By HluPhoenix |

We like trying different food. We ordered oyster platter, bone marrow, calamari, ceviche, cauliflower. We were impressed with the quality and flavors of the dishes.

Pretty gOod food but not worth the expense

By Rockerwife |

The restaurant is LOUD. Extremely difficult to have a conversation. Definitely NOT a place for romance. The portions are very small and gets quite expensive to order enough to fill a male. Service was very good and very up front about the size of portions.

Good restaurant in seedy, drug addled bum-filled Austin

By Robert H |

Cons - located on 6th Street which is like a run down Bourbon street lousy with dirty, drug addled bums panhandling. Pros - food was very good although not quite top notch. We all enjoyed the nice selection of oysters. The marrow bones were good, too, although the toast that accompanied it was way too thickly cut. Entrees also were good but not excellent. I'd go back.

great place

By Daniel C |

ate here when i was in town for an event … honestly had the best night ever . ate oysters at the bar and chatted to the staff as if i was family . super cool place . i left feeling like i was family . love austin and the general vibe. big love from ireland 🇮🇪

An 6th St. Food Oasis

By Ron T |

Who would have thought 6th Street wouild have a great restaurant?? It does and Parkside is the name. We Ubered to a few places that were closed on a Monday night and saw this place across from a bar we were in. The reviews on Yelp looked good so we walked across the street. Very understated and minimalist clean with brick walls, the right lighting and lots of white. Great food, cocktails and drinks. We had the burger, strip steak, a Caesar and a beet salad. All were great except the burger which would have been if it was MR instead of M.

poor service and completely average food at very high prices

By pickyforsure |

I can't say I have EVER waited for 30 minutes to get our first drink before, but here, we did. Seriously. Not kidding. Yes, we were a group of 16, and yes I understand that can be a challenge. BUT> wow. The waitress is pretty enough, shapely indeed. And, quite skilled at avoiding ANY eye contact until she is good and ready. She evidently had NO back up, i.e. a second server, as she took every persons order, very carefully and yes, slowly. The food was decent, but nothing terrifically memorable. Honestly, the thing I remember best is waiting patiently (very unusual for me ) literally for THIRTY MINUTES TO GET A COCKTAIL. I can promise you I will NEVER go back and NEVER recommend this restaurant. To top it off our tab was equal to our tab at one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life, in Austin.

Unexpected grace in a sea of chaos!

By cwwine |

6th Street is the weirdest part of "keep Austin weird" so it was a pleasant surprise to wander into Parkside at random. This is a full-service, slightly pricey almost classy restaurant, cool and quiet inside, the opposite of the neighborhood. Best cheeseburger I've ever had, steaks are great, wine selection is also nice. Service was perfect. I would give this place five stars, but the "all are welcome" policy means the class and manners are only as fancy as the dinner guests. If you want a nice - real - dinner before hitting every bar east and west - start here.

Unfortunate

By William |

I'd love to give Parkside 5 stars and their food deserves it but our lack of service was disgraceful. We had gnocchi heirloom salad wings crab fritters and peanut butter chocolate dessert all was excellent. Unfortunately our server was generally bothered by our existence brought the food out separately and far apart was nowhere to be seen for most of the meal and was very unfriendly. Too bad because it's a very cool and hip atmosphere with great food.

Great atmosphere and nice food

By Amcd_IRL |

So I went to a corporate event here with 40 other people, the staff were excellent, very accommodating and the range of food was very good. It is a fancy food location so I am not going to make menu recommendations, suffice to say you will find something on the menu to suit all tastes and that the decor and staff are very nice

Incredibly Disappointing and Embarrassing

By Bryan W |

Before I begin my scathing review, please note by viewing my other reviews, I don't only post bad reviews, in fact my reviews tend to be more positive. I had a client from Michigan attending the Immunology conference and took him out to dinner last night (5/7/18) at Parkside on 6th street. It was very embarrassing to me as the host, business client and Austin Texas resident. The service was horrible - we ordered entrees and a side. The waitress apparently forgot to enter the side in the kitchen, so our entrees arrived without a side. By the time it got there, we had already finished our entree. Nothing like eating a pile of broccoli all by itself. The waitress only said sorry, no offer of discounting the cost of the side or free desert, or anything. On top of screwing up the order, on more than one occasion when myself or someone in my party would ask for another drink, she would apparently forget, and we would have to remind her about the drink. It was awful and since it was a business meeting with a client from out of town, incredibly embarrassing. We had to apologize several times to our guest about the poor service. The food was incredibly disappointing - we all ordered the salmon. When it arrived, it was barely even luke warm. And of course I already detailed the problem with the side. The charred broccoli actually tasted OK, but due to the aggravation of not receiving with our entree, no one enjoyed it. I write this review not to discourage people from eating at Parkside, but in hopes that a manager or owner will read and correct the horrible service and cold food in order to better represent downtown Austin to future out of town guests.

Expensive, loud and did I mention expensive and loud!

By Tewbert |

We had a group of 5 for Saturday night and were seated in a corner booth. The noise was immediately a problem. We were not all able to have a conversation without yelling. The waiter came over and we had to have several things repeated and he asked us to repeat several things. We asked for the music to be turned down with no success until getting the manager involved. Then it was marginally better as our group of 5 became a group of 3 and a group of 2 for conversation purposes. I was surprised when I asked for a draft beer and found out all they have are cans and bottles of beer. The consensus was the food was good although my shrimp and scallops arrived cold. The prices are high and much better can be found around downtown. I was disappointed that the I’d brought out of town guests there.

Wow.

By SHS84 |

Ten of us were excited to have dinner on a recent Thursday at Parkside. We were completely disappointed. About the best thing we can say is that the Kale salad and macaroni and cheese were OK. The drinks were below average, the steaks were pre-sliced and cooked to the incorrect temperature, the salmon was undercooked as was the Berkshire pork. The crust on the banana cream pie was way too dense as was the brownie. Both were paired with bad ice cream.

Scam with QR-codes on the table

By J.M. |

No employee who wants to serve you. The QR codes on the tables are to sell subscriptions. A lot of travelers fall for this because they think you can order food with this code. When I got home, an amount for a membership had been debited from my credit card. It's really scandalous that Parkside puts these stickers on the tables. Simply a scam. So be careful and do not order food with these QR codes

Need to check out this place!

By Angie A-L |

Daily happy hour and the bright airy environment pulled me in. The friendly staff and vibe had me returning. Excellent drinks that are made by bartenders that approach their work as art. Not sure where you can go in the city and get a meal and a handcrafted cocktail for less than $25 (including generous tip)

Apps/wine/food

Fabulous appetizers, great selection of wine and specialty drinks. Food menu is diverse and fab. Had a table of eight and service was wonderful. Ask for Sam. She's terrific.

Perfect ambiance, service, drinks, and food

By Maria 🪷 |

We spontaneously chose Parkside for dinner while walking in the neighborhood, and it was the perfect spot for us. We were greeted warmly and professionally by the host as well as the person taking us to the table. I was so pleased with the warm lighting and cozy candles. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and willing to answer all our questions. The Taste You Can See cocktail was surprisingly perfect, not too sweet and subtly refreshing. I had the oak grilled pork chop, and let me tell you… it was AMAZING. Paired with their asparagus, I was in food heaven. I prefer to try as many new places as possible when I travel, but I’ll definitely be here next time I’m in Austin. I’m finicky, but I had zero complaints here.

Pleasant evening

By peterchunt |

We noticed that this was a fish restaurant, and close to our hotel. It was on 6th street, but stood out as being a better class of eating places in the area. We were seated quickly, and the servers were efficient in serving us. After order the drinks we both chose an appetizer and an entree. I had the beet salad and my wife tried the watermelon salad. We were both surprised at the presentation. Very unique and different from what we expected, and both delicious. For entrees I had the scallops and my wife tried the salmon. Both dishes, when they arrived were cool, as if sitting for awhile before being served. My wife's salmon was rare. While I like my salmon that way, my wife likes it well done. It would have been best if they had asked how would we like the salmon cooked. For desert we shared the fried apple pie which one serving was enough for two and very good. The best part was because we arrived early, the bill was cut in half.

Nice place.

By Cosmo C. |

Our party of 4 had dinner at Parkside recently. All of our menu selections were prepared well and very tasty. Atmosphere was nice - not too loud, comfortable. Service was attentive. My only compliant was the Berkshire Porchetta...too much fat and not enough pork for $28.

Seriously excellent standard

By Luxtraveller50 |

The food here is of an uncommonly high standard considering what I've encountered on my travels. I've eaten in some really lovely restaurants that were charging the same $$ but not delivering the same standard of cuisine. Wonderfully executed combinations of delicate southern flavours. Try the "braveheart" cocktail, even if you're not a scotch drinker you'll love it! Making complicated food seem easy. Price is right the money. Do it, it was fab.

One of the best meals we have had in years!!!!!!!!

By a1reilly |

Parkside was recommended to us by a colleague who lives in Austin. I can't say enough about the meal we had there. My husband had the venison and squash soup and I had the fried green tomatoes and Stuffed Acorn Squash. Since I try to eat a vegan diet, my expectations were reasonable, but hopeful, and the Acorn Squash (stuffed with steel cut oatmeal, pickled cranberries, pecan and celery root) far exceeded my expectations! . Even my husband who loves his meat was raving about it. The fried green tomatoes were excellent as well, as was the squash soup which I tried. The staff was friendly, courteous and genuinely seemed to be happy working there. Do not miss the opportunity to eat here when you are in town! You will not be disappointed.

Great meal, fun staff

By rfblair |

The bartenders were fun and friendly, and made delicious cocktails! Food was great...shared apps with friends. Great music and atmosphere. Our server was super helpful and friendly.

Classy Casual on Sixth

By IraBfromCSG |

Arriving in Austin on a Friday night, Parkside had availability and a great menu so we gave it a shot - We're very glad we did. Seafood dishes (salmon, scallops and oysters) were all creatively prepared and flavorful. Service was very friendly. No room for dessert. Prices are a little high, but not unreasonable for the value of the experience.

Surprised

By Heather N |

We were starving and decided to go to Parkside because it was close. Omg...what a surprise! This place was great! We basically tried every starter..the mac and cheese was Holy goodness. The oysters were perfection. We had some kind of crab ball that melted in our mouths...it was really amazing! Our server was the best..she helped us pick the most delicious things and as a result, we left knowing we would be back. See you soon, Parkside!

Deeeelish!

By Usha R |

Great oysters, service and atmosphere. Really nice, casual place with a cozy feel. Excellent seafood. We had the bass, ceviche, oyster platter and scallops, and all were excellent.

Shockingly poor

By trollsdad43123 |

I went with a group so we began with the appetizers, at least one of each. It started bad and became worse. The crab balls were over cooked, and essentially tasted like panko balls. The fried green tomatoes were small, overcooked, and without any seasoning. The oysters were okay, but nothing more. The rest were not worth a mention. Several of us ordered sweet corn chowder. It was awful. It tasted like there was a handful of sugar. I cook regularly with sweet corn, and there is no way it was this sweet. There was another flavor that we were not able to identify and the server had no idea. I can only describe it as spoiled Roquefort cheese. My main course was duck. It was a good thing the portion was so small because it was inedible. I love duck, but this was so chewy, it didn't matter, I couldn't eat it. Desert was fine, not blow me away, but it was good. In short, the food looked amazing. It is said that you eat with your eyes which is good because it was inedible. The insult to injury was the server never asked if things were good, or if we didn't care for our meals. The soup was uneaten, the entree's were barely touched as well... Someone commented that the kitchen crew must be out and was replaced with the cleaning crew... No question the presentation was magnificent, but the quality was a major fail. My group spent well over $1,000 that evening and I am beyond disappointed in the quality and the service.

Enjoyed our meal!

By bkp21 |

Had a good meal at Parkside. Service was solid. Good variety/selection of dishes at decent prices. Small but interesting wine list. Try the bone marrow!

Cute/ Good

By Cameron K |

The food is good, service is great, ambiance is hip (think wood, metal). I liked our meal a lot. I felt like the value was ok. The only issue is that nothing is WOW... but it is all very good and predictable. I did love the many yolks in the steak tartare.

Limited menu means everything's a home run

By thayersn |

Parkside is the second Austin restaurant in a row we've visited for dinner that had a limited menu (only six entrees), but the strategy seems to work. We had the daybook scallops and the cervena venison; both were perfectly executed (although portion size was a bit stingy -- 3 scallops and 3 rounds of venison loin). The barley/chanterelle/grape garnish with the venison was refreshing without overpowering the meat (which had its own currant sauce - the classic accompaniment!). Asparagus were also nicely grilled wth a light touch of garlic and the crispy calamari were a nice starter. Full on a Monday night (although a lot of Austin restaurants seem to close Monday -- an old restauranteur tradition that has faded away outside Austin). On the noisy side -- we had to repeat ourselves often. And I can't help thinking we were the only diners over 40. But that's others' loss.

Atrocious Service and disorganised.

By Jude Harvey |

Visiting Austin and we came here as recommended by a local. It looked cool and the staff appeared friendly. We ordered starters and a main course with sides. We were brought our main course first and when we asked the guy what happened to our starters he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn’t know we had ordered any he then wandered off. We were left unsure if to eat the main course or if our starters were to come or the sides. We called Jaime back and he said he’d check in the kitchen. Eventually our original server appeared and said she had forgotten one of our starters but could not explain why the other one had not been brought out. She left us with our main but still no sides and said she’d reorder our starters, we expected them to take the main back and bring the food in the right order. No such luck! We ate the main on its own and sometime later 2 of the 3 sides arrived, and one of the 2 starters. We had no plates so asked for them but the server said he’d bring them but did not he continued serving others with their food, we knew as we were by the kitchen. We had to flag a server down and explain we were less than happy and one of our starters was still not served the food came in the wrong order and had no plates to eat from . He went to check and another server got us plates but the food by now was cold and very disappointing. We were also brought the bread with this and not when we arrived or with the main. We were then told there was no excuse for the bad service but they missed the point we had been served food in the wrong order had to chase up the food and even after all of this one of our starters was missing still. We were given a reason there was a problem with the starter and the kitchen had to start it again however that said we should have been told and not given our food in this way and neither were we offered a fresh starter as it was stone cold by the time we had the plates etc. We also had to wait for cutlery as it had all been taken from us with the main course clear up. It’s not rocket science bring the food in the correct order and the sides with the mains! The servers did not attend to this error and appeared surprised we complained initially. Is it too much to ask for food to come out as ordered and for us to have plates and cut,dry without chasing staff around to get it. We were offered a desert on the house but we’d had enough and asked them to remove the charge for 2 dishes which we had gone cold. Such a shame as the food was tasty and no doubt if we had better service and it came in the right order without chasing the items on the order we would have given a favourable review.

Overpriced and food prepared by a cook rather than a chef

By Frankathy |

We went with a group of friends. My salmon was considerably overdone, not nice with fish, and my wife had the Ono which was also over cooked. The diner to my left had what was supposed to be pork chops, but that was hard to tell in that it was burned and blackened. The small dish of mac and cheese was $9 and a Kraft pack would have made 6 of the same size bowls and tasted better. This was truly a disappointment. It has location, location, location but doesn't have good food, food, food,

Delicious food, excellent service!

By Kathleen L |

Had a wonderful dinner here, both the vegetarian and meat options were perfect, and the service thoughtful and not invasive. Excellent wine.

Must Try!!

By Jacinda W |

A friend and I visited Parkside on the last night of a conference in Austin. By far this was the best meal of the trip. In fact, the best meal I have had in ages! The presentation, the flavors, the service - everything about the night was spot on. The crab fritters are incredible. The Caesar salad was fresh, and light. The pollock was perfectly cooked and seasoned and served with the most incredible garnish. Don’t forget to save room for the pineapple upside-down cake! When you visit, be sure to ask for Kate. She was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and just the best server. Parkside is well worth the price!

Amazing for large party

By Laura S |

This was an amazing night and meal. We had 2 tables of 10 people each. Our food was unbelievable, hot, cooked to perfection. We had nearly every appetizer, and I had an acorn squash soup that had a touch of sweetness in tiny marshmallows and brown sugar. My meal was scallops with an acorn squash purée and crispy potatoes. Sides were wonderful. Would recommend to everyone.

Sadly our expectations were not met

By Virtuousbread |

The staff are excellent and the server was both friendly and knowledgable but the food was actually extremely average. It was not bad but it was nowhere near great. The best dishes were the charcuterie (the foie gras pate was great) and I assume that it is all made in house (but don't know for sure) and the ceviche and the asparagus. However the steak tartare with a cured egg was far far FAR too salty (and I love salt) with no balance to it and no steak flavour, the fish cakes were ok etc etc. The desserts all suffer from too many ingredients of a questionable sort and were (sorry) not worth the calories. So, interesting but there are many better places to eat in Austin. It's also REALLY REALLY loud.

Exceptional Flavors

By SHHooter |

The bartender at our hotel recommended this restaurant. We were looking for a nice dinner with some quality cocktails and they delivered. Initially the hostess seated the three of us in the back of the restaurant near the kitchen and we requested another spot and were accommodated immediately. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. We each ordered a different cocktail from the menu and were really pleased with the unique flavors and inventive combinations. They had and impressive selection of oysters and raw seafood platters but we focused on few other items. The charred romaine salad was delicious and the calamari was perfectly cooked and accompanied by an excellent lemon sauce. The bone marrow appetizer was good but a bit too sweet which disguised the beef flavor a bit. Our entrees, bar steak with fries, shrimp/scallops and chicken were also perfectly prepared and presented. Nicely done Parkside. Thanks.

Commonplace

By jblack2018 |

With so many Austin options, this is mediocre. Good neighborhood spot, small portions, loud. Nice waitstaff, but we do not need to return.

Perfect meal, great service without reservation

By GoodJeanne |

We stopped in without a reservation at 5:30 on a Wednesday during the holiday season. We were seated immediately, and enjoyed perfect service (Bethany and the team). Three grown ups and a 6 year old...all treated with respect and consideration. Bubbles and oysters, mac and cheese, the BEST gnocchi, salmon, scallops and salad. The youngest among us loved the gruyere macaroni (so did all of the adults) and dessert plate. The older folks are still talking about the oysters and main courses. Dreaming of gnocchi....Seriously appreciate the consideration for a youngster and team-work-good service. Such a delight!

A bit of a disappointment

By roanie1969 |

A very average experience. The food and service are definitely lacking. I had the NY strip which was fairly tough and the vegetables that accompanied it were cold. The flavor and seasoning of the meat were very good. The servers are friendly and seemed to try hard but our wine came out 20 minutes after our food was served, which to me is not acceptable. There were definite pluses for this restaurant but also a lot of negatives. Overall, I would not recommend it.

Great service and great flavors

By tdtexas |

Interesting menu with some choices you don't see everywhere. Some very interesting flavor combinations. Not a deep menu but the flavors make up for it. And the service was attentive without being annoying. Really good for a college town. Actually just real good.

Oysters

By juanb0b |

Excellent cold water oysters. Nice selections of wine and beer. Knowledgeable servers and manager. We also had the salmon, steak and squid. Every dish was outstanding. Plus, all items are half price from 5 to 6.

Good meal, nice atmostphere but overpriced!

By Nancy W |

Visited Parkside for dinner with a group of six people. Food was delicious, although portion sizes were a little small. I ordered ribs which were on the specials menu, only to find out 20 minutes later than they had run out...quite disappointing. We had a nice booth seat, the atmosphere was good with mood lighting and background music etc. We had several rounds of cocktails, all delicious but quite expensive. All in all I had an appetizer and four cocktails and it was $90. A touch expensive for what it was, but a good night had by all.

Late visit for food and drinks, quite place in 6th str.

By Maria M |

I gave it 3 for his style and ambiance, clean and relaxing. The food looks nice in the plate but tastes less good. Cocktails were also medium good. If you need a calm nice place to chill in this busy street, that is good deal although pricy. Service is slow and medium, too. Not a go back.

Simply delicious!

By Fabienne M |

An evening at Parkside with friends is amongst my best memories of Austin. Food and service were both excellent, and I'm still dreaming about that out-of-this-world kale salad!

Parkside Austin Tx

By MikeG_CT |

Excellent restaurant, food was very good, but was very pricey and portions were not very large. Had the New York Strip which was excellently prepared, but small in size. Service was very good. Was not impressed by the IPA/beer selection

Friendly service and great food

By LAGuy90019 |

I went with two other people and shared appetizers, entrees and sides. The server was well informed about the menu and was able to answer all of our questions, she was friendly and attentive. The biggest challenge was what to order - it all looked good and it all tasted great. As I tried to think of my favorite, I realized that it was all good - the asparagus, fries, mac and cheese, ceviche and the list goes on. Although the ambiance is nice, it is all hard surfaces leading me to my only complaint - the level of noise was very high, it was hard to carry on a conversation. That wouldn't stop me from going back again.

Great Place

By TophersTravels71 |

Had a very large work function on the second floor. Staff did a great job taking care of us. Appetizers and drinks were plentiful up front and the service was great during dinner. Food was very good and appropriately portioned. Would definitely go back for a personal meal.

Not Your Typical Sixth Street Eatery

By Daryl C |

This part of sixth street tends to be more about cheap beer and eats. Parkside breaks the mold. I ate at the bar and had an awesome salmon. The food quality and preparation was excellent. If you like oysters (sorry, I've tried but just don't understand the draw), they have several types available.

Great Food

By Matt D |

Went here to grab some drinks and some food and sat at the bar. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. All of their recommendations were fantastic, and I enjoyed everything I had there.

Good food and nice place

By Wisnia |

Great place with a good food, but not too many choices. Very trendy and popular with "locals". A small part of my meal never arrived and when I questioned it, the manager brought the dish and apologized for the inconvenience. We were not charged for it either. Overall we enjoyed the atmosphere.

Great meal

By jpatter1 |

Came here before the concert at the Paramount. Very good service. Half price cocktails and appetizers before 6:30. East coast oysters were excellent. Really enjoyed the salmon tartine. Papardelle was amazing. Scallops over barley(?) was too sweet for me. Custard dessert was inspired. Only downside: noisy.

Flavorful meal and good portion sizes

By VacationerSeattle |

Our waitress was excellent, we too ordered a variety of items, not a typical main dish. The oyster platter was half off on Weds and delicious, we had Mac and cheese, the best beet salad my sister has ever had, and gorgeous. Crab fritters. Caesar salad. Not overly impressed with the spaghetti squash. It does have a limited menu.

Very poor customer service!

By golftraveler72 |

I had dinner with a customer at Parkside. This was my first visit, but saw positive reviews and decided to try it. The food and rinks were good 7/10 is how I would rank based on those factors alone. HOWEVER, after our meal we were having drinks and continuing our conversation when the check shows up at the table. We were not finished and were not asked if we were. We were then asked to vacate our table. We were shocked at this request and it gets worse from there. To be clear, there were at least four or five unoccupied tables, but we were asked to leave and given a cheap glass of champagne to finish at the bar. It was vey embarrassing to be treated with such little respect in front of my customer. I attempted to address with the manager Kevin, but he was extremely unprofessional. He was defensive and totally unapologetic for the treatment. I will not go back there because of the complete disrespect toward me and my guest. There was much more, but think I have made my point

The Best

By Rick E |

This is our second visit in the last 5 days. Both time we experienced great food & wonderful service. Shout out to the Manager for changing the TV from Gymnastics to Hockey & then providing us with a splash of Prosecco when the Canadian team won. Definitely a nice change from most establishments on 5th Street. Highly recommended.

Good food with a playful menu

By S B |

The menu is not large but there is a lot of thought in a good variety of dishes. Meat, seafood and vegetarian are all options. The waiter worked with one person who was both vegetarian and gluten intolerant to make a dish that suited her.

A great downtown option from the usual spots!

By GrahamTrucks |

Very quaint place, great location on 6th street. Everything was beautifully prepared, and portions were respectable. Half price drink specials until 6:30 pm, and I will add that they do have an awesome mixologist. Somewhat limited entree options, but at least one of all the usual groups. Overall, a nice value and a good option from the large chain locations downtown!

Large Parties Welcome!

By JadeMartini1010 |

Our party of 12 was seated immediately even though some members of our party arrived a little late. So smart, they seated us and took our drink orders instead of making us wait in the lobby. We felt welcomed from the start. Every bite of food was fabulous.

Our first night in Austin

By Deborah D |

Although trying to convince ourselves we weren't tired (after a 10 hour flight and eating at what was well after midnight to our body-clocks) this was excellent. We started with a couple of cocktails, explained we didn't want to eat too much, so got a couple of starters then shared a main course. My only disappointment was the lack of US wines - I was really surprised that most of the list was from the rest of the world. Over the next few days we realised this is very common.

Go for the happy hour - stay for the apps!

By Royal Yates |

Their happy hour is really where it's at. Half price apps and cocktails at this joint was probably one of the best decisions we made on the trip. And don't be afraid to try something different - they have this blistered peppers appetizer that I was nervous about, but ordered it after a bit of cajoling from the server. Best app they have. Loved it! And the cocktails are great - I felt like I was getting one last taste of summer as we sat, chatted, and lost track of time.

Very mediocre

By SNJ1 |

Horrible portions especially for the appetizer. In addition, they are not very tasty. The entree of NY strip was Very good and cooked to perfection. The waitress was good and all professional

Food was bad!

By mgs83 |

Starting on a positive; it's in a good location. Looks different to a lot of the adjacent burger and pizza places too. You get in and it looks and feels good. Really well finished. Which is what attracted me to try the place in the first place. Also I'd noticed it had been busy on NYE. Like a lot of restaurants its borderline art gallery. The look and attitude of much of the staff reflect this sadly though. Not the most friendly of receptions. The menu is simple and limited, but that could be a good thing. I was thinking what ever I order is going to be well thought out and well executed. It really wasn't, I had the chicken and egg plant dish for main. The egg plant was so burnt it was inedible. The roast potatoes I had on the side were the same. On top of that the flavours were over the top. So much bitter you couldn't taste the food. And the prices they charge, it should be top notch food. It's really not, think the cook/chef needs to replaced or retrained. It was really that bad. I can't believe I paid what I did. The food in Texas was really good as a whole. Tried different foods in a a lot of different locations and this was alone in being just awful.

Everything About Parkside is Great!

By TrueTexasTraveler |

What a wonderful experience! Parkside is at a great location, in the center of it all in downtown Austin on 6th Street. The atmosphere and menu is 6th Street eclectic. We told them we needed to be at a show at the Paramount at a specific time and they got us out with plenty of time. The food really was incredible. We started with raw oysters from British Columbia and Virginia. Very fresh, they each had very different flavor profiles. They were both delicious. For my meal, I had venison medallions with farrow and squash and everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned well, really accentuating the natural taste of the food. Overall, this was really just a very good dining experience.

Good for a lazy lunner (late lunch early dinner)

By Mary S |

We ordered off the bar menu. I had the salmon and the caesar salad. Both were exceedingly fresh. The waitress was accommodating. We killed a lot of time waiting for an event elsewhere to start and were not hurried out of the place. Coffee is excellent. I wasn't that fond of the key lime pie. I like mine traditional.

Great place for a date

By Christiana H |

Delicious food and cozy atmosphere despite the industrial decor. I was here for a work dinner but it would be a great date spot!

Good oysters and Ceviche on 6th

By Art G |

We were looking for oysters someplace we hadn't tried them. Found good reviews for Parkside and gave it a try on a Friday evening (6pm). We weren't disappointed! They offered several types from various regions including Rhode Island and Prince Edward Island. We had their chef's choice Oyster Platter (12 oysters of 3 types; $32), and added their Classic Ceviche ($13), and fries ($6). All were great, nicely presented, with excellent service. We finished it off with desserts of Beignets ($9) and Chocolate Pave ($9). With 3 glasses of Cava sparkling ($9 ea), a Pierre Sparr sparkling ($12), and a 10-yr port ($9), the bill was $120 with a happy hour discount off the bar food, and before gratuity. It's not in a thrilling part of the college/tourist section of East 6th St., now unfortunately home to cheap bars with street hawkers soliciting business, and overall not a clean, stroll-friendly environment (City of Austin / merchants of E. 6th - can you make a decision to upgrade this??), it didn't drive us away. Parking can be a pain, but we did go "early". We'd definitely go again.

Dimly lit restaurant with a bar in a great location

By peggy b |

The restaurant is on a bustling corner and is easy to get to. The bar is dimly lit, so if eyesight is a challenge, I recommend you keep going down the road. The wait staff was charming and attentive. We ordered appetizers and drinks. Had the lamb rib appetizer and my business partner had crab cakes and broccoli. He also had the local beer, which was amber. The atmosphere is fun and we enjoyed our happy hour.

Holy rudeness.

By Lovin Victoria |

This is the first time on trip advisor I want to give a zero. We went here twice. The first time was fun as it was mostly drinks and a snack. We came back and had the worst service I can remember having ever at a restaurant. Our server took our plates before we were finished, we were distracted by passing something to each other and when we saw her take them we shouted at her to stop and she just kept walking. Plates we had ordered at the beginning of our meal we didn't get until the end. We wanted to order more drinks but our server never checked on us. We had to physically flag down other servers for even our bill. It was not busy. The restaurant was a third full at best. What a disappointment and such a let down after a great week on our first trip to Austin. The food was okay. Wings are properly done but small. Scallops under done. What a shame after other good reviews. I remember turning to my husband and asking if he thought our server hated us. Very bizarre experience. Never again.

Super delicious!!

By Sharon Z |

The steak tartare was great! The ceviche was great, and the Mac& cheese was beyond wonderful. We loved everything we ate and drank. The key lime pie was fantastic. While we're only in town for a week, we expect to come back to parkside.

Oysters & Osso Buco

By rbuff0228 |

I sat at the bar and the young girl who waited on me was excellent. She was smiling made oyster recommendations. I had the Shiny Sea- nice clean flavors, the accompaniments were spot on. I ordered the Osso Buco- fantastic one of my favorite dishes. Pork was perfect the jus was rich, velvety. It was a bonus to see they had Blanton's Bourbon-Great Food-Drinks!

Creative menu

By NYbos309 |

The experience started off a little rough but by the end of the meal we were very happy with all our choices. We had about 4 small dishes and then each got a small meal and it was just enough. The waitress knew we had a hard experience so we ended with prosecco instead of dessert! The place is LOUD so come with some friends that can stand the noise.

Great Service, Atmosphere and Food

By leigh732 Los Angeles |

A bustling restaurant on Austin’s 6th street, a stretch more known for entertainment/bars, not as much the food. Parkside is an oasis of very good food on 6th street, with great service and atmosphere that highlight a visit to the restaurant. Food: - Oysters: I’m a huge fan of oysters, and Parkside offers a wonderful selection. We were hungry and eager, so started to order as soon as we sat down, not realizing it wasn’t our server setting up the table...it was no problem for him, he gave a excellent advice about the oysters., and I was impressed by his knowledge and friendliness, even though he wasn’t a server. We took his advice and enjoyed Blue Point and Umami oysters, both on the perfect briny side. - Bone Marrow: Another dish I consider a treat. The veal bone had an interesting but still very enjoyable flavor. I liked the prep included radish and a micro green to help cut the richness, along with the slightly thicker than usual bread provided with the marrow. I’d just suggest a bit of sea salt on the side would also add to the dish. - Hamachi: small selection of ceviche/sashimi, and we chose the hamachi (yellowtail). The freshness and quality of the fish was impressive, it was great. I found the orange aguachile sauce a bit heavy for the fish, and would perhaps ask for it on the side, but a great fish regardless. - Berkshire Pork: the only dish that didn’t stand out. The meat was okay, but just okay, and the accompaniments didn’t really enhance the pork much. They offer a very nice selection of custom cocktails, offer great advice when deciding on your drink, and they were spot on. Finally, the Service really made the visit extra enjoyable. Friendly happy people work at Parkside, and professional and efficient as well. Our server knew just when to visit the table - she seemed aware and sensitive to guests interactions at their tables, and almost seemed to time her visits for just the right moments so as not to intrude on discussions - that was really impressive and appreciated. We were never left to want for anything, and she was very warm and friendly. Again, all the staff seem top notch.

Nice dinner with girlfriend

By Edward M |

Parkside is one of the new style restaurants were everything is fresh and always changing. My girlfriend (who has a ton a food allergies) and I chose Parkside on a recent get-a-way to Austin. The signature cocktail I had was wonderful and the wine list consisted of wines I had never heard of but was glad we tried them. This is one of those places where they don't write down the order.... Honestly, I don't understand the appeal of this, but I guess some folks like it. We mentioned my girlfriend's food issues and worked through the menu with the server. We ordered a charcuterie board which is usually a safe bet for my girlfriend. Unfortunately, instead of the plain meats we expected, there was a bunch of tricked up selections that the girlfriend couldn't touch. Our fault, we should have asked first. Next, they set two salads in front of my girlfriend before they got her the right one. A bit annoying and screwed up the pacing of the meal. Then they delivered both entrees prior to finishing our salads. This caused us to feel a bit rushed like they were trying to turn the table at a faster pace. The girlfriend's scallops were cooked to perfection and ultimately they were able to accommodate her diet. My pork dish was tasty, but had too much fat. I ended up picking through it to find the meaty bits. With a drink, two glasses of wine, an appetizer and two entrees, our bill was $155. Overall, this is a lovely restaurant with good service. I would go back again knowing what I know now, but I would ask a few more questions.

Business meeting upstairs

By McFerrid |

Facility was able to handle group of roughly 40 people with no problem. A long rectangular room made it a little odd and would have been better if we could’ve had round tables instead. Bar upstairs is good. I had salmon dish and the crust over it reminded me of a great pot pie crust. Very tasty. Beet soup and vodka tasting wasn’t appealing to me. Excellent service!

cool place

By Monica F |

Excellent wine selection & cool vibe. We ordered kale salad spaghetti squash. The service was superb.

Incredible food and gracious atmosphere!

By Megan_FCharlotte |

Incredible food and gracious atmosphere! We had my birthday fest there and shared a bunch of plates with four people. We tried the starters-marrow bone, the gnocchi, the steak main, and the steak tartare. They were all delicious and we also found a nice bottle of wine. The food was quality & service was topnotch!

Great experience, small plates and lots of them

By Scott E |

Four of us ate at Parkside sharing the many small dishes to get a taste of all sorts of sides and dishes. Mostly seafood but one person had the NY Strip. Waitress was great about giving recommendations and pairing different plates and wines. Service was fairly fast. A little noisey but still quiet enough for conversation.

Amazing food and service

By Alex T |

I came here with my family, my dad said it was one of the best overall experiences he's had in a while. The bar steak was fantastic, cooked to perfection. The burger was delicious. I had the baby kale salad which was light and tasty! We had several appetizers to start off with which were also great. Our server Kelly was very nice and attentive. Highly recommend this place

Great for Fish

By Maxxed78 |

Called into this Restaurant on spec and whilst it was busy the staff found us a table with no issue. Certain fish items on the menu needed further explanation and when i asked the waiter for an explanation he did si without issue but after receving the dish i dont believe he explained it well enough. I had the Sea Bass and luckily also ordered a salad as the Sea Bass was very small. However saying that my food can only be described as excellent, i have never had Sea Bass done that way but would certainly order it again. All in all i thought the service in this restaurant was good and the food excellent ( if you like fish) and would certainly go back again. We paid $64 incl tip for two main meals and two drinks, one alcoholic.

Great Happy Hour Apps!

By Jules S |

Parkside is our Go To place fro Happy Hour and half priced oyster Wednesday! The oysters are always fresh and cold and delicious. The fried green tomato and bacon jam appetizer, truffle fries, shishito peppers (when in season), steak tartare and charcuterie board are our regular orders! WEdnesday is also 1/2 off bubbles night! Valet parking.

Fantastic meal AND service!

By Onebigfuzzy |

I set up a group in downtown Austin for the last week of July 2017. These executives needed a place for dinner after a long day of meetings. I was able to secure their upstairs room for this party of 16 people on a Wednesday evening. This meal was a success! Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was outstanding - I think that we had everything on the menu. The pace the food came out was just right, everything was hot and the order was correct. A few people commented that it was the best meal that they've had. Foodies delight for sure. Atmosphere was nice - we could hear the music, but it was not too loud, we could hear each other talk. Also - casual. Some patrons were dressed nicely, others in shorts and sandals. It was very comfortable, fine dining without being too fancy. I have a food allergy and am gluten free. While they don't have a dedicated gluten free menu, our server was very knowledgeable and able to direct all of my meal choices. He also double checked with the kitchen to make sure each of my selections were gluten free. My food was fantastic and flavorful. I am only giving 4* for the value - it is pricey and adds up quickly, but if you don't have a budget, I feel it was worth every dollar spent. I will stop in again when I am in Austin!

Austin fresh, deconstructed

By Deanna D |

Fantastic food and delicious cocktails. Always ask the server for recommendations. Many of the desserts come deconstructed which can be a surprise if you're not expecting it.

Where have I been?!?

By Kate Beard |

Ahhhmazing happy hour. We stumbled in on a whim before a concert down the street at Stubbs and they were so nice! The waiter was patient with my drink orders (trying to get things just right) and the food was so good! Plus, for what we got, at half price it was a steal! I had the scallops and they were like butter, while the hubby had an amazing steak. We left full, happy, and will definitely be back!

Tasty meal and good service

By David L |

We were not very hungry, so just had appetizers (salmon cerviche and fried calamari) and salads (roasted and pickled beet salad). All the dishes were well done. I had never had salmon cerviche before, so didn't know what to expect, but it was tasty. The calamari was lightly breaded (which was good), though was a little bit too salty for my taste. The service was attentive without being overbearing.

Upscale restaurant on East 6th

By Jscott2800 |

Nice upscale bar/restaurant with a rooftop patio. Wide variety of different types of food. Great happy hour M-F 5-6:30 pm for half off all drinks and half off bar menu anywhere in the restaurant. We went 3 times in a week.

Good food

By Charlie S |

Wandered in with some colleagues with no knowledge of the place (was with a Dutch guy and Belgian guy and they choose based on the look 😳) Turned out to be really good food. Simple, perfectly prepared. I had salmon and skin was beautifully crisped. They had duck special and loved it. Got sides of asparagus and potatoes and both good.

Parkside was a good experience.

By mr_larry_smith |

Parkside offered good service and good food. The service was rxpecially good. I enjoyed the experience so will try Parkside again.

Great Place would be better off of Sixth Street

By E1030RSfrankb |

Had a relaxing meal before a show. Varied menu of small portions. The restaurant has a raw bar but we did not try it. The waitress was really helpful with the menu and drink selection. Prices are normal for the area. Just wish we would not have to navigate the seedy parts of Sixth Street to dine here.

Excellent service ! Great food ! Gorgeous plate presentations.

By joselito1959 |

We had a large group of 50 people for dinner in a separate room and it was great. The service was amazing. Even though we had so many people in our group, the service was outstanding. Great salad and fresh made bread. The plate presentations were gorgeous ! The braised short beef rib was delicious ! One of the best. So tender! Mac and cheese , great and and braised broccoli. Great area upstairs with a terrace ( big) to hang around and a great bar! Really enjoyed did place. The desserts were just gorgeous and so good. Very impressed with this place.

Nothing special - quite loud

By Coastliners_HK |

Had a small group business meal here. The food was unremarkable as was the service and drinks. Given the options in the area I would be unlikely to return.

Didn't know what to expect but...

By Amy M |

Food was great and reasonably priced. The place looks more casual than the food (it's very well presented!) but if you're looking for a 'good' restaurant you won't be disappointed!

Food is reasonable. Service good

By Peter B |

Had a quick evening diner, which was OK for the type of food that I ordered. Atmosphere is OK and the people are nice.

Horrible service

By joefaul |

We had a work event here while our company was in Austin and we waited over an hour and a half for our food. There was only 12 of us as well. The food was good but not worth it with the wait. Our waiter was not very friendly either.

A nice meal...

By Missy L |

Had a nice meal here, The oysters were great, the service was attentive. We were there on a Sunday night, and the place was nearly empty, which had us a little worried. Found some of the dishes a little over salted, but otherwise, pretty good. Maybe a little expensive for what it is.

Good food, little overpriced.

By Caroline D |

We went for a late dinner. We looked for something close by our hotel that wasn't too loud (not that straight forward on 5th/6th St in Austin), but this place was quite nice. There's a bar and restaurant area. After making our choices from the menu we were told that several items were not available anymore - understandable but it would have been nice to have been told before we made our choices. Service was good and prompt, food was good but small portions.

Limited menu, but excellent tasting cuisine

By jlcintx |

If you can stand the 6th street walk, try this restaurant. The menu is limited, so ask for the bar menu to get really good comfort food. My friends had the salmon and loved it. Others did the fried egg sandwich. The Mac and Cheese is great!!. The butternut squash soup was good, tasted just like I make at home. The service is excellent! Chairs are uncomfortable at the tables, proportions are off. A little pricey.

Fun

By Stephen F |

We had drinks here following a long day at a convention. It was convenient to the convention center area. 6th Street can be fun but a pain. This place is worth stopping by. The staff was friendly. I want to return for dinner.

Happy hour was rediculous--1/2 off everything food and drinks the whole menu

By EricPBliss |

Our server Joseph rocked. We literally sampled a ton...ceviche, oysters, shrimp cocktail, scallops, beet salad, cauliflower, and NY steak. All great, though the steak was more medium than medium rare so order a little under what you like. My wife really liked the beet salad. Happy hour was rediculous--1/2 off everything food and drinks the whole menu minus bottles of wine--there is a great wine selection here, and even though glassrs are limited, what is available is top shelf. This is a true gem for Austin...wish the happy hour was longer, but we were allowed to stockpile an extra drink before it ended....I'm so full. I'd recommend this place to anyone! The beer becomes absurdly cheap in happy hour at half-off though I stuck to wine, scotch, and a really cool mezcal cocktail that was to die for...missing this place between 5-6 will be a sin in the future when I even consider downtown, despite its location in the touristy 6th street locale. I'm a local so I usually wander this way only when visitors are in town but I'll make an exception from now on...high class yet still TX enough to allow casual dress. Love it!!!

Great for a large group

By Jack B |

We used the second floor, which also has an outside deck where you can mingle and have hors d'oeurves. The crab fritters were great as were the mini cheese sandwiches. We sat 40 very comfortably. The steak entree is tender, grilled asparagus delicious as a side - as were all the sides! Great service! Desserts are super; I recommend the brioche beignets with butterscotch cream, raspberry, toffee, and cocoa nib sorbet. Yum!

Fabulous night out for a party of 10

By StringMan66 |

When in Austin, plan on having a great dinner at Parkside. In short, ambiance, service and quality of food was consistent and exceeded expectations. Highly recommended and I will be going back when I get the chance. We were a party of 10 and started with drinks at the bar. Service was prompt and the bar offered a great variety of beers, cocktails and wines by the glass. Bar side is separate from the dining side although the bar area did have some casual tables nearby that were available to sit down and enjoy food there. Ambiance was very good with a casual elegance to the decor. The restaurant side had a nice vibe to it although not overly noisy to the point of being too noticeable. Highlight of the night was the food. Appetizers included oysters, calamari and a charcuterie platter to die for. Mains included steak and seafood options as well as a great pork dish. All dinner items were ripe with flavour and none of them were disappointing. Several had dessert and apparently they were also very good. Wine choices provided an eclectic variety of Cabernets, Granache and Pinot varieties to name just a few. Prices covered the spectrum of cheap to those over a $100 so one could easily find something to enjoy at a any price point. Service throughout the evening was very pleasant, quick and attentive. Parking can be tight however they offer a valet parking option around the corner and as of the writing of this (Dec 10, 2015) it was $10 flat, although more if left overnight. Credit card could also be used instead of cash. Overall Parkside delivered a very memorable evening and great food.

High quality, great experience!

Okay, so went here for a buffet dinner while on a business trip. Tried everything and all was amazing! Salmon, chicken, beef, asparagus with Parm cheese, mac and cheese, Ceasar salad, this wam, yummy bread and for desert homemade donut holes with caramel sauce! Yes, you read that right. Awesome place!

Don’t miss this 5-6 pm Happy Hour!-It can be your early dinner

By Michele M |

There is nothing negative I could say about this place. 100% exceeded my expectations. After going to a movie nearby I did a quick internet search for best happy hours in Austin and one of the top-rated was less than a block away. Craving a Texas Margarita, I went in. Reservations had the whole place booked but they told me if I could leave by 7 pm, I could use one of the tables. So I sat down and was immediately greeted by such professional waitstaff!!! Turns out entire menu and drinks ( except bottles of wine) are 50% off beyween 5 and 6 pm every day including Sunday. One oyster platter, maguerita, glass of wine grilled Cesar Salad and Scallop dish with a bill about $30 later I left determined to return the next night, which I did. Honestly I would have gone there every night I was in Austin, but I was embarrassed that I seemed so zoned in on one restaurant so I explored a couple others too. But I will definitely return when I go back to Austin for South By.

Ok Food...didn’t live up to hype

By Trav124fun |

The restaurant is advertised as fully organic. It has a nice setting but the service was really slow and the food was just average.

All in. Excellent

By Marksilv242 |

Great everything. Good, service, suggestions. Steaks were excellent and perfectly prepared. Loved the oysters and desserts. Danny was a great waiter.

Good food and friendly staff

By alamo |

Food tasted very good, everything's made from scratch and with fresh ingredients. We had to call a taxi to our hotel, but the street was closed for cars. One of the people working at the restaurant walked us to a hotel (1 min away) where a taxi was waiting for us. We tried to offer a tip but he didn't want to take money. Parkside gave us a very good experience!

Really???

We booked dinner for 3 people on Valentine's day. It was a pre fix dinner $70.00 pp You cannot stay longer than 2hrs for dinner that night. Our server was very nice and attentive without hovering. The entree was between lamb chops and red snapper. We were allowed to choose only 1 entree per table. We got the lamb. The meal came with fresh salad dressed with a light vinegrette to share. It was very good, light and fresh. It was adequate for sharing. The main meal came and it came with 3 pieces of lamb chops. One piece was about 1" thick, which was fine. The 2nd piece was about 1/2 inch with about 1/3 fat on it and the 3rd piece was a sliver,a 1/4 inch with 1/2 fat fat on the entire small portion. They 're all on the bone of course.. They were done right, medium rare on the 2 bigger pieces but the small one came medium. I asked our server to return the small piece because there was hardly any meat on it, mostly fat and she apologized and returned it to the kitchen. She came back with yet another small 1/4" piece but al least this time it was all meat..I'm thinking we are paying$70.00 per person,at least give us all a decent same size of 1' thick meat as it's only 1 chop per person. This was not a cheap meal! The chops were tasty but not memorable. However, the baby brussel sprouts that came with it was excellent! It was cooked in a balsamic glaze. Dessert was 1 piece of layered chocolate cake. It was very good, but then again, there were 3 people in our table sharing this! I felt like we over payed for this meal. I don't mind paying for a good meal that is satisfying. But tonight, i felt like i payed too much for so little. There are a lot of great restaurants in Austin. I've eaten here before and my son eats here occassionally. Sadly, i don't think i will come back.

great downtown place

By parduski |

menu is not overly extensive which we like. This makes everything well executed and delicious. we always enjoy our time here.

Nice place for a quick bite or a meal

By E1030RSfrankb |

Went here before a show at the Paramount as they had given discount tickets to patrons. Great shared plates and the waitress was really helpful with the menu and drink selections. They have a raw bar but we did not try it. Will try another day. Would be far better if it was not on the seedy end of Sixth Street.

Added to my Austin staple list

Incredible service and fare experience. Good oyster selection. Mac&Cheese a must along with Fried Okra and Pretzel.

Fine preparations, good tastes, fine atmosphere on 6th.

Unique food preparations + classics done well + excellent staff = very fine experience on 6th Street.

Parkside Never Disappoints!

By KMS |

We always have a fabulous time here! The atmosphere and service is the best and the food is awesome! We walked in last minute without a reservation and the front of house coordinators were so friendly and got us the cutest table in the whole restaurant and sat us right away! They even gifted us a complimentary glass of champagne which totally made our entire evening and made us feel super special! It's refreshing to go to a nice restaurant downtown where all the staff there are friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs and appreciate the people choosing to dine there.

Hot location

By Handman |

On 6th Street, the wild music locale in Austin. Hopping at night with live music everywhere. Had a nice meal with a large group. Tried salmon to get a break from steak. Nice portion and cooked well. Fries with garlic and asparagus.

Great presentation but small portions

By AV S |

The restaurant is conveniently located on 6th Street where all the action is. The restaurant offers something different for the palate but be prepared to pay for it. Two of our party opted for the Scallop entrée which was presented beautifully & was layered with flavors. The unfortunate part there was only 4 scallops to be enjoyed. The side of macaroni & cheese was adequate but could have used a bit more cheese. The fresh bread provided as the appetizer was tasty. If you want to try something new & different the menu provides kale, quinoa & farro and other less common fare.

Not to be missed

We einjoyed a lovely dinner at this excellent restaurant after a colleague raved about her lunch. I was not disappointed and the choices were varied. My friend and I chose a few meals to share. A definite return when back in Austin!

"Our Happy Hour Tour of Austin"

By viajera1968 |

We were visiting kids newly working in Austin. We spent our first and last evenings enjoying happy hour at Parkside. The food and drink delicious, well presented and very reasonable at happy hour discounted prices. Stand outs for me were the very tasty-- with a hint of smoke--ceviche, perfectly cooked steak frites, and spicy chicken wings. We had about 4-5 plates altogether for 4 of us and 1-2 drinks each-- lovely not too sweet cocktails--and everybody was very happy, and very full. The bartenders were great, concocting a special not too alcoholic cocktail for one of our party and making sure we had our orders in before the end of happy hour pricing.

Whoa. How about some more salt?

By NCPETE |

Went with a large group and we were not impressed to say the least. Calamari were drowned in salt. Not just my opinion but everyone's. Everything was wicked salty. Funny they had no salt shaker on the table. They were likely out. Tuna seemed microwaved - not seared. I had chef boy Ardee risotto. Not good at all. Would never consider this place again unless I wanted to preserve my food for the next hundred years. Many many better choices close by

Nice place for appetizers

By TKL3 |

We found this place by chance and were glad of it. Four of us shared appetizers, all of which were nicely sized, artfully presented, and very tasty. The calamari was cooked perfectly, and the crab fritters were out of this world-imagine crab Hush Puppies. We split the crispy salmon, which lived up to its name. We saw no evidence of the poor service noted in other reviews. Our server was smart and efficient.

Just ok

By Bostonfam02184 |

Food was tasty, but very small portions and overpriced. Not a good value. There were lots of options for vegetarians.

A gem on Dirty Sixth

By Mom_to_Zoe |

The block that Parkside is located on is full of bars and live music venues, not places I would to eat. Parkside, however, is a serious restaurant with elevated, thoughtful cuisine in this unlikely area. A friend and I walked in with no reservations on a Saturday but were seated and treated graciously - which is meaningful because we both have food allergies and dietary restrictions. The items from the raw bar, especially the ceviche, were stunning to look at and had exceptional flavor. The main courses too were beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. Friendly service and a great cocktail program. So glad we decided to pop in spur-of-the-moment!

Good food and service

By platypustheking |

This place isn't cheap for sure - especially the drinks. But it was a great experience. Caught happy hour here and enjoyed the half price oysters. The bartender was helpful and made excellent drinks. Returned for dinner and the food was fantastic. We had a wide variety of dishes - from steak to seafood and even vegetarian- and all were delicious.

PERFECT for Brunch, Casual afternoon on the Rooftop Patio or Dinner

By davecannon |

A culinary oasis on 6th street. While there is no shortage of New Orleans themed bars with cheap food on 6th street, there is only one upscale gem "Parkside". Their tour de force menu of Martini's wine and specialty drinks is amazing. Frankly everything is stellar including the wonderful roof top patio. Food is impeccable to the point you might give up cooking for yourself forever. It's a foodie's heaven. While many rotund people complain it's not a fattie's "all you can stuff" paradise - the portions are perfect for comfortable fine dining. Hip crowd, hip place for people of some privilege. Definitely the top end of Austin's finest eclectic dining. Reservations are required but relatively easy to get, expect to spend $100-150 for two on a regular date (and worth more than you paid). On special occasions like birthdays & anniversaries consider The French Room in Dallas at $300-500 a couple for dinner. Parkside is wonderful. Semper fidelis, Dave

Great food in a hip setting

Finely prepared food with upscale touches. The chocolate dessert with raspberry sorbet would make this a destination.

Awesome for late night

By Pax S |

This place is great for a late dinner - after a show that ends around 10 or later. Great food - I would give it 5 stars if they bring back the Deconstructed Marshmallow dessert...

Excellent

By Julie S |

Our servers were excellent, and the food was melt in your mouth perfect! Excellent choice for couples looking for a semi-quiet dinner on 6th street.

Really good food though loud and limited atmosphere

By BuzzieFamily |

The food here was really terrific, more than I expected on 6th, the hot street in Austin. Fresh oysters, lots of inventive seafood and meats. It's not cheap, but not ridiculous. Excellent service. The music was loud initially, but they turned it down when asked. A rather plain room, but okay. I'd definitely go there again for the food; they can handle large groups and do so well.

Great restaurant

By marvin41700 |

We were a group of 10 and the service was excellent from appetizers down to the dessert. We started with the oyster platter, crispy calamari, shrimp and grits and marrow. There were all good. I didn't try the marrow but I was told it was really good and tasted like butter. I had the crispy salmon then we all had the brioche beignets. Overall excellent service. The food taste great. The chef even came out and greeted our group. Would definitely come back!

Wonderful dinner was had by all!

By Wascooper |

A group of 6 of us dined at Parkside on a recent couples trip to Austin. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations given the boisterous-ness of 6th Street. Oysters were delicious, as was the steak and the crab cake fritters. And although it was expensive, we shared two bottles of a wonderful Pinot Noir! We would definitely return to this restaurant!

My favorite restaurant in the ATX

By Jeff D |

I've dined here twice in the past two months, and I love this restaurant, which is a culinary oasis in the wilds of East Sixth Street, the Entertainment District. The menu changes frequently. Various kinds of shellfish are available. The cocktail menu is very interesting, with some tasty drinks. I had a strawberry shortcake dessert on my most recent visit, and I recommend it highly, if it's available. Have a Strawberry Surprise cocktail to go with it. Or whatever drink suits your fancy. Cheers!

Rude, Offensive, Unprofessional Staff at this mediocre venue

By MIchael B |

Our event was ruined by the angry, unhelpful, rude people at this establishment who we contracted for an event yet decided halfway through our time that they would no longer allow any more guests to enter the event. We asked them to allow new guest to enter once guess who had arrived earlier departed because we understood there is not unlimited capacity but they still refused which ruined our event. Even worse they were quite rude and how they address people will try to join us. What we did have inside the event was not particularly good either. I would avoid this place at all costs!

No reason to eat here.

By southerndrive |

The server was delightful but the food was horrible. When asked about the sirloin, we were told "it is six ounces of protein". ??? Specialty drinks - whatever. The blue crab bisque/soup was too salty to eat or taste any flavor other than, well, salt. I would not recommend this place. There are too many other places to eat a great meal so just skip this one.

Excellent food, cocktails and service

We enjoyed it all, even with two kids in tow - great service, food and cocktails and convenient downtown location1

Corner restaurant serving more sophisticated food with a view

By Cary L |

I was with 3 other guys walking along sixth street in downtown Austin when we passed by Parkside and decided to dine there. It was a Wednesday night at around 8pm and the restaurant was almost fully packed. The food was fair portioned, tastes was good, not very local but has International flair. Service was only okay though, not considered good as we were ignored many times by our waitress and other servers. It took a while to get our dinner plates and the cocktails recommended were a little disappointed.

Clean restaurant, great food

By Bev Z |

Clean appearance outside and in enticed us to check out this restaurant for dinner as most restaurants on the strip did not appear to be as such. Food was great, well presented and plenty of it at a good price. Waiter Daniel W was efficient as well as knowledgeable of the area, helping us with our tourist questions.

Parkside was brilliant!

By DLHirst |

I love it when you realize how hungry your are and an opportunity just presents itself. That was the Parkside a couple weeks back in Austin. Granted, we were on 6th Street, so there were a myriad of opportunities awaiting. We picked Parkside, and were glad we did. We got a plate of oysters. Dozen oysters, three different varieties. We didn't have to fight over the "good ones", cuz they were all delicious. We did have to fight over the "last ones", for the same reason. The charcuterie platter was really nice as well. Not really big enough for a table of four, but ALMOST. There was some leering glances as the platter quickly emptied. I read a review that said the cheeseburger was the "best anywhere", or something similar. That is definitely not true. But, it WAS damned good. Almost a slider in size, but after the apps, it was all I needed. Oddly, the beer menu included two beers from Michigan, and all the rest were from Texas. Naturally, I had to have a couple TX IPAs. Tasty. Our waiter was very friendly, very helpful, and attentive. I wish I could remember his name to give a shout out, but my mind is failing, I guess. All in all, an excellent place. I would love to return!

Perfect Dinner

By BethKDfw_Tx |

From the hostess to the server, and the dinner, everything was flawless. We had reservations for 6:30 Saturday evening, so we had no wait. Our friendly, helpful server seemed to appear at exactly the right moment, throughout our meal. We were never without anything we needed. The food was truly cooked to perfection. For starters, we had the Crab Fritters, and the Gnocchi. Both were great, but don't miss the gnocchi. The texture is indescribable. My husband and I, both ordered the Salmon. The fish and the vegetables were equally good, with refreshingly unique flavor. My son and his girlfriend chose to have burgers, from the bar menu. Both of them agreed they were some of the best burgers they had tasted. Even the bread, served gratis, is unique. Don't be put off by the seemingly limited menu. There may not be a long list of options, but what they serve is perfection.

Amazing!

By Compass557598 |

Service was spectacular! Happy hour was amazing, can you say oysters! And then the night kept continuing to impress. We continue to come back as much as possible. And every time we do we leave happy, full and genuinely blown away.

Delicious Austin Experience

By Anson3000 |

Really excellent food, fun cocktails and decent wine list. Everything we had was very good, but the Raw Bass, Kale Salad, and Sunchokes topped my list. Service was excellent — a well informed server and a nice leisurely paced dinner. Felt like a real Austin place..although we were tourists, much of the clientele seemed local. Yes, it is loud..and 6th Street itself was busy and noisy..but for us that was all part of the experience. Highly recommended!

Used to love, not the same it used to be.

By TravelNomadChic |

A while back I used to think of this restaurant as excellent and I hadn't been back in a while. The location has always bothered me to be honest which is one of the reasons I don't frequent this place, however on my last visit I was likely left as it being my last visit. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. I think the quality of the food has changed. It is over-priced in my opinion, and perhaps a few years ago when there were less options in Austin I might have overlooked that, but I had a tiny meal for as much as I could have had a not-so-tiny meal in much much better Austin restaurants. I don't think the location or the setting warrants the prices (and I don't normally complain about price.) Therefore I am honestly not sure how much the restaurant has actually changed...or how much I have changed in lieu of now having much (better) options in Austin. Either way its unfortunately not a restaurant I will be going back to, and it used to be a restaurant I loved and used to recommend to people all the time.
