Brilliant Diner

By verysweatybetty |

Had a fabulous late breakfast of eggs Benedict and my other half had pancakes, eggs, bacon and toast. Very busy as it was US Mothers Day so had a 20 minute wait but it was worth it If you are visiting Coney Island by car I recommend stopping here for breakfast or dinner as you go right past it. We were told it was the last old school diner left in the area....many are selling up as property developers want the land It's a great place, genuine and not touristy so you pay reasonable prices. The coffee which was quality just kept coming. It's a great place

Great Diner!

By Thomas C |

My favorite Diner in Brooklyn! Super clean with a menu offering many options. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Acceptable, Average Diner

Some nice folks work there... it's an ok place if nothing else is open and a convenient eatery will do.

Unless you like endless waits and rude staff...stay away from Parkview

By philart2016 |

Had a similar experience to Jillian -also in April. THE WORST. We also had a group (5) people and had an excessive wait from the time we were seated to the time we got ANY service. It was over 30 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us... and bring water and ask for our drink order.... We had to repeatedly ask for them as they didn't arrive. OK now we get our orders taken... after an excessive wait bread sticks and soup finally arrive... but 45 minutes after placing our order and WELL OVER 1 HOUR after being seated ...still no food. The waitstaff was no where to be found. At this point several members of our party had it. We all decided we wanted to leave... (this was at the 90 minute mark) and got up to pay for the bread sticks (usually free) and soup- which only 3 out of the 5 of us had... We were done and lost our appetite ... members who had the soup just wanted to pay for what they got. We went to the manager to tell him how unacceptable this was, but he said we HAD to pay "the food was coming"... "five minutes"... He also said "This isn't McDonald's".... and he threatened to call the police (who were already there ordering and receiving their take out as Parkview apparently it seems to me ...has it "in" with the cops.) 15 minutes of arguing... still no food ...and while we either should have left without paying (as our party offered to pay for the soup and bread basket and were rebuffed) OR just plunked down a few bucks for the value (not much) for Parkview's seemingly uninspired soup... and left. Under the threat from the abusive manager - who said we must PAY for what WE DIDN'T GET - OR ELSE...and that he was having our order packed "TO GO" our party "leader" ended up paying for food we never got. We didn't want the food at this point... we just wanted to leave! (Not that there was any indication our food was really going to be ready anytime soon.) The person in our party who had his car in the lot feared the abusive manager would take his license plate # down. AVOID THIS PLACE AND GO ELSEWHERE! With so many choices in Brooklyn: Floridian, Del Rio, Vegas, Mirage, and Perry's -ALL BETTER CHOICES... why choose Parkview? I guarantee this would NEVER happen at Perry's as owner Perry is usually there and wouldn't let this go on in his restaurant. There's nothing special about Parkview to begin with, but after this awful experience ... I'd say it's a place to simply avoid. A note to the abusive Parkview Diner manager: POOR SERVICE + MEDIOCRE FOOD + NASTY & RUDE STAFF = CLOSED DINER Parkview is the latest in a string of diners at this Coney Island location. Many of the previous ones, like Retro 50s - with its Johnny Rockets motif, were more inspired, much friendlier and overall provided a far better experience.

Great place

This is a great place to eat. Breakfast , lunch, supper. The food is great and the staff is friendly and very professional. The diner is clean and food is served in a timely manner.

Not my cup of tea

By Sunset92 |

We decided to try the Parkview diner one Sunday morning for breakfast. From the outside it looks like an old fashion diner. The fact that they have a parking lot was a plus. When we entered the diner we had a short wait. Our waiter was very pleasant. I was so happy to see that they had hash browns on the menu. There are not many places in NY that make hash browns. It all went downhill from there, as soon as we got our breakfast we tried and hated their hash browns. The rest of our breakfast was just ok. The hash browns were crunchy on the outside and too soft and mushy on the inside. They looked like mashed potatoes that were thrown on a grill. Yuck! Never Again!

Poor management

By NuJerzee610 |

Poor customer service from the manager no compassion for older people stay away. I’ve been here many of time but I will not return

Excellent Food, Gigantic Portions

By Mitchell B |

We have been going to Parkview for years and still enjoy it. Food is consistently good. Servings are enormous. Lots of space to get comfortable. If there's a big party (like the 60-give-or-take men who were there our first day in town), we leave. The noise is overwhelming and the service deteriorates. But service is usually good and sometimes excellent.

Ok breakfast

By Redc965 |

Came here for breakfast, service was not that good, lack of communication between the guys workig there, also the pancakes were too high and almost tasteless, maple cyrus is 2$ more, and it's not that cheap

Good diner- clean, extensive menu, large portions

By shasta2088 |

This diner has been a waypoint for travelers headed east toward Long Island for many years. Recent owners fixed it up and added to the menu. Food is good, place is clean and portions are usually large enough to take home leftovers. Traditional turkey dinner with apple stuffing and two fresh veggies was $21 but delicious and enough for two. Kids Menu is small but food is good and also reasonable prices. Meals come with bread and tray with beets/Cole slaw/chic pea salad. Service wasn't particularly attentive but may have been a bad day. Just off e/b Belt Parkway with entrance back on to the Belt just 50 feet away from parking lot.

Best Diner Left in Brooklyn!!!

By Gennadiy D |

I loved this place. It has a modern design and even though the menu is smaller than most diners, all the food and dessert (largest selection of desserts than any diner I have been to) was extremely fresh and delicious . Even though this place is on average a dollar or two more expensive, this place is worth it because it one of the few diners that has modernized to what people prefer in the 21st century. In addition to the great food and environment, the waiter was highly attentive. However, if you order the dinner special, make sure you point out that it comes with soup and salad, not soup or salad as they try to make you believe.

Not Wow'd , More UGH Then Anything Else

By beachwm2 |

It's a diner, how can you go wrong with a diner? The food. Ordered breakfast, pancakes, eggs and hash browns. Hash browns were cold, old and swimming in grease. They were uneatable. Asked for a fresh batch, they came out almost raw. Someone else ordered a grilled cheese, got the sandwich and the cheese was still cold and unmelted. Our waiter and busboy were both super nice, working hard but being spread to thin with to many tables to handle which in turn made us have to wait far to long for any service. I love diners and usually seek them out for my late night after concert go to. The Parkview is right around the corner from the Ford Amphitheater on Coney Island, perfect location for late night munchies. Sadly the Parkview will never see me again.

A first class Diner

By drreinisch |

Parkview Diner is conveniently located at Exit 6 on the Belt Parkway. The food is top in its class for a Diner. Really excellent hamburgers, delicious dinner choices, fresh food well made. Comfortable seating, good wait staff, friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended diner!

Breakfast-Best Sausages Ever!

By Mjasen1 |

You can always be sure the breakfast sausages are cooked just right and juicy! The waffles have a hint if vanilla ! However the coffee today tasted a bit burnt! I asked for another cup but it wasn't as bitter. It taste like they might be pouring the end of the carafe into a fresh pot, they should discard. Used to have the best coffee around!

Yum!

By Porthos7 |

Can't say enough about how wonderful this amazing place is l! Once you walk into the eating space, it's everything you want to be - a little art deco, a little 50's style diner - but ALL of it... A CLASSIC! The food came out hot and on point. Service was great, and the place was really clean - including the bathroom. Bigger than it looks once you're in the main dining area. Well worth a stop - especially late night!

Not so great diner

By SBRavens |

After landing at JFK we were riding back home but were hungry. Decided to stop off at first "non-chain" eatery that all agreed upon. We settled on to Parkview diner. We were taken in by the signs noting it was a long standing diner and very popular (according to signs). The food quality and service was only so-so. Definitely would not visit again. The vodka cocktail ordered was very watered down.

Great diner and right off the Belt

By Marielle A |

This diner is so convenient because it us right off the Belt Pkwy, exit 6. Like all Brooklyn diners, the portions are gigantic, and they have specials every day. The desserts are great, there is a kids menu, and a full bar. The best part is the service. The wait staff is friendly and timely, and if you ever have a problem, they are on it! They also have a Sunday brunch. Great place! Plus it is open 24/7!

I was told not to come on Sunday

By Arlene R |

I went by myself for breakfast and as usual, Sunday is a very busy day. I sit with certain wait staff. The owner, Bob said I shouldn't come on Sunday because it's busy. I was shocked he said this! Since I usually come lone, they put me either at a table or booth out of sight of the patrons who are waiting to be seated so they can't see that there's one person sitting at s table for two or four. I told Bob he shouldn't have said that. He made a gesture with his hand to his lips as if to zip his lips by "telling" me he won't say scything anymore. I told him I won't be coming in for a long time. If I had a drivers license, I would have walked out and gone elsewhere. I would have sat at the counter if I didn't use a walking cane. .

Diner Food

By Ilanfreedman |

This restaurant is across a bridge from Coney Island, and it's several blocks from the boardwalk, and amusement park. I liked the grilled cheese sandwich as an entrée.

Diner food at its best

By Gardoz9 |

My wife and I went to Home Depot and on the way back home we stopped here to eat dinner. We were seated very quickly and the hostess was very friendly. The waitress as very attentive and also very friendly. She would come over to ask how the meal was and if we needed anything. The food itself was very good. My wife had the flounder stuffed with spinach & feta which she said was excellent. I had the broiled Romanian steak which was cooked to perfection. You get a lot of food including sides so be prepared to tak so home. Overall highly recommednded.

Ok for budget breakfast

By Aleksandra D |

I have visited this place twice for breakfast while staying in Brooklyn and must say the portions are huge indeed. I had pancakes with fresh fruit once and ceasar salad the other time. Ceasar salad could be made better. I have also ordered tea both times and milk provided was in little pots like in hotels - no fresh milk.. The service is very good, everyone is friendly and nice. This place is open 24/7 and appears to be quite popular amongst locals. Would recommend.

It was good but didnt match the hype

By ChinaDuo |

We enjoyed it but our expectations may have been too high! First of all, when our waiter greeted us he informed us that there were about 8 menu items that were unavailable as they had made an "ordering mistake" over the Thanksgiving Holidays. So, the things i really wanted to try were not available (those might have been great but who knows?). So, my wife decided to try the Chicken Soup because it has been billed as the, "Best in NYC". In our opinion, it was average and we have already had much better an many other locations. Since my first two choices were unavailable, I settled for the Grilled Cheese and Split Pea Soup. The soup was fantastic (thick and quite flavorful) and the sandwich was pretty good. The green apples was an interesting touch and I liked it. However, given what we had heard, we really expected more and might have experienced if the entire menu had been available. The service was ok but not great. We may give it one more try but not until we have tried many other places first!

Food is always very good!!!

By Techmann |

This place is always very good. From breakfast to diner, from eggs to sups. This diner chefs just do it right. If you ever in the area for any kind of food you want day or night, this place is for you

We've Been Going For Years. Always Good.

By Mitchell B |

This is an excellent Brooklyn Diner. Those typical diner-sized portions, but excellent food. Great selection. Service is usually very good. A large, pleasant space with lots of natural light. We live in Spain now, but go to Parkview every year when we visit family in the area.

go for the specials

By Rit4CR |

Three of us stopped for dinner on a Friday evening. Many families. It was very busy. The food was good but the service was not. The wait person got 3 things wrong on our order. The Manhattan Clam Chowder was the best I have had in years.

Last of the Real Diners!

By CherinaHirsh |

The diner is quite large and accommodating. The burgers are delicious as well as their brisket and turkey. They have incredible specials which include Romanian steak and turkey with salad of your choice, soup, drinks and dessert. It's a great place to spend time with family or friends .

We ordered for delivery...very pricey and not enough food

By Arlene R |

On New Years Eve we ordered food for delivery. My husband ordered the seafood combination at a cost of $31.95. There was very little food. For that price, he should have gotten a lot more food. I ordered chicken franchise with angel hair pasta at a cost of $17.95. I got three big pieces of chicken but very little pasta. Both dinners came with soup or salad. The new owners aren't as good as the original owners. We go on Saturdays. My husband always orders the brunch with a Bellini. When we went there the Saturday before New Years Eve, they ran out of one of the ingredients that goes in a Bellini. That has never happened in the history of the Parkview Diner. And the bathrooms are filthy. They don't clean them as good as they used to or should. These was two very disappointing experiences.

Great place to eat

By Arlene R |

My husband and I have been going there since it opened. One of the owners, Gus, is a real nice guy and always greets us by our first names. The food is excellent. We have a favorite waitress and a couple of favorite waiters who we sit with. They have a great brunch on the weekends and some holidays. I get a bagel and cream cheese while my husband gets the brunch. We share the fruit salad which is always fresh. They not only have a special lunch menu, but they also have an early bird dinner menu and a dinner menu. They have top quality beef for hamburgers, steak, etc. We go there during the week as well. If you're a teacher, firefighter, police or senior citizen, they give you a 10% discount off your bill during the week. Sometimes you have to remind the cashier to do this. Gus does it all the time.

Truly ghastly

By David B |

This place used to be reliable for breakfast and maybe lunch, but it appears to be under new management. I went for a breakfast meeting twice. On both occasions, the server took forever to bring decaf coffee, which was lukewarm and truly disgusting, and the cheese omelette was the size and thickness of a folded napkin. It was barely lukewarm. Toast was not buttered. Never got a refill on coffee. It is depressing, too, Stay away!

As usual a nice time

By Steve K |

Rosie and I went with my daughter and grand kids for a nice lunch. Rosie had sourdough breaded chicken with crispy bacon and I enjoyed lox and cream cheese on a well toasted bagel. Enough lox to bring home for lox and eggs tomorrow. Enjoyed the other half of Rosie's sandwich for dinner. French fries in the freezer for another day. Everyone enjoyed their food. Service was fine. Handicapped spot right near stairs. No problems at all. Even the kids didn't complain. Huge portions with prices climbing with inflation.

Really a very Good diner just off the Parkway

By Allan S |

They are always open and always crowded but have real diner food like great meat loaf, mashed potato and dead peas. Their pies and cakes are top notch and this is a good spot to go when you are hung over to eat something and get your bearings. the coffee is excellent as well and the wait staff is sassy.

A Good New York City Diner, Easy Access from the Belt Parkway!

By Alan B |

This is very much a typical New York diner. We went here for lunch and were a party of 5. We were quickly seated. Everyone opted for the daily specials, which were generally from US$ 12.95 - 14.95, and you had a choice of about 18 entrees. The price includes a cup of soup or a salad, your entree and a choice of coffee, tea or a soft drink. It was a good value. Everyone enjoyed their food, whether they ordered a salad (chicken, tuna) or something else. I had a Veal Parm hero with french fries. The food was certainly pleantiful, service efficient and reasonably cheerful. The parking lot is a plus, as its location right off the Belt Parkway, with easy on/off in either direction. While most of the time diners on Staten Island are more convenient for us, I would not hesitate to visit the Parkview again, and commend it to you if you are in the area. Hope you found this review to be helpful.

One of New York's Best

By Dom A |

I haven't been here in years, but it looks like it might be under new ownership. And that's a good thing. From the parking lot, to the decor, to the staff, to the food, it has all improved. I ordered the broiled chicken and got a lot more than I expected. Firstly, I was brought out an appetizer dish with Cole slaw, beet salad and chic pea salad, followed by fresh bread, followed by a bowl of soup, followed by a green salad. After all that my roasted chicken arrived with sautéed spinach and authentic mashed potatoes. Suffice to say, by the time my chicken arrived, I was full and could only eat some of the chicken. At the end of the day, it was a lot of food, very good, fresh and delicious food at that. I eat at diners a few times a week and Parkview just went to the top of my list. I will be back. Footnote, my waitress, Maria, was phenomenal. So courteous and friendly! And Sabrina, the maitre'D, was so welcoming and came to my table to ask me how my meal was. A very nice touch!

Friendly and super attentive staff, great atmosphere

By hjemme på reise |

Went there twice already. Will be coming back for sure. They have a wonderful, family friendly atmosphere there that's really enjoyable. Food's great and good value. Definitely worth a visit.

Breakfast

By Kevin L |

When my wife and I travel to Brooklyn from Maine to visit our son's family, we can not leave the area until we have breakfast at this diner! Food is beyond great, service and waitstaff make you feel like your still in Maine! Very friendly, no rushing you, just a great environment!! Looking forward to returning!

Nice Diner

By John |

We spent the morning at the NY Aquarium and then walked around Coney Island. When it was time to go we stopped at the Parkview Diner for lunch. They asked us if we had been vaccinated, which is fine — and yes, we have been. We were seated in a booth and our server was great and checked on us several times while we were there. Food was good and coffee was refilled consistently. My wife had an omelette and my daughter had some kind of chicken sandwich. I had the beef gyro and it was very good. We all enjoyed our meals and our time there. Glad we found a diner to stop at on our way back to Jersey. The parking lot is small and a bit tight so be extra careful getting in and out of your parking space!

Everything you expect from a diner

By Marielle A |

This diner has been through many changes in the past 13 years since we have been going. It was great, then it was terrible, then it was amazing, then it was sold again. It's not as good as it was one owner ago, but it's getting better. The portions are diner huge, the menu is all encompassing, and the service went through a lull but seems to be back on track. They have early bird huge specials, weekend brunch, and a full bar. Lots of baked goods, and very friendly staff. Recommend!

Always awesome food and service

By Jo T |

Great!

By Joeavison |

I was a little nervous going in, it’s a funny location to find good food but the food was really good and the service was fine. I’ll be back next time I’m in the area. I didn’t have time or room to try one but the cakes looked amazing!!

Nice old fashioned diner.

By shakinthembones |

Service was nice, friendly, efficient. Pancakes were huge, bacon crispy, eggs done as I ordered them. Great place. Has wifi as well. Only tried breakfast.

Hair in my food, TWICE in the same Day!

By Elle_W_NYC |

Generally, I used to like this diner. we'd go about one to two times a month varying between breakfast and lunch. service is usually good, staff is friendly and the food was pretty good. However, after today's ordeal and the bad attitude of management i will NOT be going back, EVER. i ordered a chicken souvlaki - which is usually quite good. but before i even got started, i wanted to shift the chicken and pita to a different plate from the salad not to soak the pita in the dressing. i just moved the pita and ugh HAIR! i informed the waitress, who was just as disgusted, and immediately took it away to bring me a fresh plate. 10 minutes later, another plate arrives, yes, it appeared to be freshly made as the meat was quite hot [but not burned, as if re-heated], and i go through the same process to move the pita and chicken to a different plate, and AGAIN, ANOTHER hair [short, curled, black]. again calling the waitress and asking for the check. now, my companion was not yet done eating, and most places i know, and have seen, would just offer to comp the meal cause A: it's DISGUSTING and happened TWICE; and B: I've yet to eat and my companion barely touched her meal thus far from disgust, as well. my check is brought and my meal is removed and the other one is still on the check. ok, no worries. i don't scheme or try to get free things just for the sake of it, but for good relations and to show good faith that this was truly unexpected, as well as the fact that it happened TWICE, it would, IMHO, just be good form to comp the meal and hope the customer returns. I asked the manager wth was going on in the kitchen and he has the nerve to tell me, idk, it was a red hair, no one in my kitchen has red hair...implying, of course, that it was put on the plate after it was brought out. Now, note, neither I, nor my companion have red hair, either, and it was a BLACK hair, short, and consistent with EVERY single latino bus boy and server in the diner. I pointed that out and he basically turned around said, idk, and moved it along. I noted that most places would just comp the meal and be done with it. He says, oh I did, see, I took off your plate. Well, clearly you don't comprehend the term comp...you took off the price of my plate cause I NEVER ATE ANYTHING; comping the meal would've entailed comping the check for my companion, as well, who barely touched hers after seeing not one, but TWO hairs on two different "fresh" plates. I didn't make a stink, I didn't cause a scene, I took the check, paid it, left the remainder of my companion's meal untouched [enough for another meal (or two) for many] and walked out. And we will NEVER be returning to that disgusting place, again.

Average

As the dinners fade out of existence i sometime still urge to be in one thoughbthe food is average service okiesh but still its one of the few time surving dinners

Great menu!

Great menu! We could not decide what to have for breakfast. We had the egg Benedickt, and my son the two eggs with sausage. Also, they have a great selection of pastries and cakes.

Food is good. Good amount of TV's around so prfeft for those Sunday mornings when football is on. If your in a rush I suggest sit at the counter if not they accommodate well for big parties.booths are always readily available if not just wait the 15 min they usually clear one up by then.

Adding to my previous review

By Arlene R |

In my last review, I said that Bob (the owner) said Sunday is a bad day for me to come and that I shouldn't come on Sundays. I forgot to mention that waitresses Norma and Cathy both said that Bob isn't wrong in what he said because I sit with certain waitresses/waiters. I said it doesn't matter. The hostess Orley also said Sunday is a bad day for me to come. All three of them should have kept quiet and not sad anything. Also, they have banners hanging outside the diner saying they were voted the Best Diner in Brooklyn. I mentioned this to an owner of another diner and he told me there was no voting for the best diner in any borough and that they're doing this for publicity. They still have the sign outside that says the Retro 50 Diner. The reason it's crowded is probably because the El Greco Diner is closed and for no other reason. A friend in the medical field said that Bob actions towards me could be for a number of reasons; 1) I come in alone which could be wanting to deny me public accommodation, OR because of my physical disability. If my late husband was still alive, I would have loved to have seen if he would have said anything because my husband had polio and wore a leg brace. All I know is they better get their act together if they don't want to lose customers. .I told customers at another diner not to come here. Bob better get his act together because word of mouth and web sites like Trip Advisor can really hurt a business.

Check out Parkview Diner!

By scorpianeem |

This is my first review of Parkview Diner but not my first time eating there. I have somehow neglected to let everyone know that you should check it out. We were there today and had breakfast which was very good. In the past, we have had burgers for lunch which were great! the staff is very attentive and the service is great. I look forward to my next trip to Parkview and I recommend that you take a ride and visit them too!
