Oysters for Happy Hour

By Chrissy’s World |

Food was amazing! This quaint cozy restaurant was amazing. The customer service was great, food was fresh and was delivered to our table very quickly. We dined here during happy hour and was not disappointed. The next time I visit Philly I’ll make sure this is on my list of places to return. Really enjoyed everything about this place!!

Great raw bar

First time to experience the good food and oysters here. The Mary and Pearl oysters were delicious. Can’t wait to go back for happy hour.

Excellent

Ate at the bar. Brian and his colleagues took excellent care of us. The ambiance, service, clientele and food all get a strong 5. We had oysters, oysters with caviar, oysters Rockelfeller, crab dip, deviled egg and lime tart. Be careful, the crab dip is really hot (and very crabby). We got to meet and talk with their oyster purveyor, Perin. He knows his stuff. If there are any drawbacks it would be #1 it is pricey, but you get what you pay for, and #2 they put a little too much mustard in the deviled egg.

Don't order the lobster roll

By Jonathan K |

Don't order the lobster roll. There might be other dishes that are pretty good; I do not know. The service is good; the people-watching is good. The lobster roll is not good. It's shortcomings betray what may be a larger misunderstanding of shellfish and crustaceans. The roll is not a brioche as claimed, but is closer to a supermarket hot dog roll. The roll did not appear to be grilled in butter. There wasn't much lobster meat, despite the seriously high price. The meat was tough; either previously frozen or a bit overcooked. The meat was highly seasoned and a bit spicy. But, lobster is sweet at its best, and delicately flavored. Spice murders the taste of lobster. A lobster roll is not a Mexican dish. I live in a New England seacoast town that still has lobster boats and lots of lobsters, clams, and scallops in the waters nearby. We have really some good and some mediocre lobster rolls. Pearl & Mary Oyster Bar would be associated with a chain faux-seafood version hereabouts.

Fantastic new restaurant

Went here before seeing a show at Academy of Music. Small restaurant so make a reservation. Food was fantastic. Had the deviled eggs, hamachi crudo, oysters Rockefeller and the chicken sandwich. All the food was outstanding, nice cocktails, cute decor and friendly waitstaff.

Oyster Lover’s Hangout

I decided to stop by Pearl & Mary to satisfy my Oyster Itch! The space is lovely and if you arrive when the open, you will have a great selection of seating! The staff are prompt and friendly and make good recommendations! I enjoy the oysters…Thai Chicken; Shrimp Cocktail as well as an order of fries! This is a popular spot and fills up quickly, so you may want to make a reservation! Either way stop in and give them a try!

Very nice meal.

Happy hour menu is limited but definitely has oyster options which other diners told us was their favorite. We had Caesar salads and the Thai wing appetizer. All was very good and the right sized portion. Kitchen was fast, if you want items to come out paced as YOU like it, then don't order apps and your meal at the same time. Would return. Drinks were good.

Totally recommended

Good morning travelers. We were staying near the restaurant, on 13th Street, and decided to try it. The first thing we saw is that it has two menus, one for normal hours and another for “happy hour”, from 4 to 7 pm. Since we went at 6, we enjoyed those discounts. For those of us who like oysters, totally recommended. We had two dozen for two euros per oyster, phenomenal, some starters, a couple of beers and a mixed drink and it was very good. Very well attended and an elegant atmosphere. If you want to dine at a good price, go for happy hour. Greetings to all.

A great meal.

Wonderful birthday dinner. Food was interesting and delicious. Our waitress Harley made the evening a joyous occasion.

Dinner

We made reservations to have dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves. For starters I had the New England Clam Chowder and my girlfriend had the deviled eggs. We both enjoyed our appetizers. The chowder was very tasty and thick. The deviled eggs were delicious as well. For our entrees we had the steak frites and the scallops, both meals were cooked perfectly. We enjoyed our meal and will most likely go back to enjoy their raw bar.

Great!

Decided to give this place a try during their happy hour on 3/1/24! Well let’s just say you need to be there around 3:45pm to get in line because it’s people already outside waiting for 4pm! It was a long line when we were there on Friday 3/1. Good thing we got there early to get in line lol it’s first come first serve at the bar area. The staffs and bartenders were all very friendly and helpful with explaining their happy hours selections. The oysters 🦪, the deviled eggs, the steams mussels and the chicken sandwich were all excellent! The drinks were on point as well! We will definitely go back again for their happy hour!

Better than average. But watch your check. Wine bill was inaccurate.

I ended up at Pearl & Mary for an early dinner. Literally, I stumbled upon the place, thought it had curb appeal, looked at the line of people and read the reviews. And yes, I said line of people. Weekdays, it doesn't open until 4 pm. Apparently, the happy hour specials are quite good but they only appeal to those customers seated at the small-ish bar. Maybe 12 people can squeeze in there. So, a line forms by 3:30 pm. If you want a table, it's not an issue. You can get one immediately at 4 pm, although reservations are highly encouraged. One complaint about reservations: If you say you're a party of 2 people you can pretty much get a table at whenever. If you say you're a party of 1 person, they limit you to the end of the night. That's unfair. I've never seen solo discrimination like that before. I ordered a shrimp cocktail. $5 a shrimp. Jumbo shrimp. Excellent. No complaints. My halibut main course was likewise excellent. No complaints. The wine list is okay, but the vintages listed on the wine list for wines by the bottle do NOT match inventory. I ordered the 2020 chablis but was presented with the 2023 for the same price. 2020 was a great year for chablis. 2023 was an awful year. I sent it back and ordered a half-bottle of Laurent Perrier non-vintage champagne instead. When my check came, they charged me for for the full bottle of chablis. Had I not noticed, I would have been overcharged by $25. I pointed this out to the waitress. Of course, she apologized and corrected it. But how many people would notice? It struck me as questionable. That's my only real complaint. If I had to nitpick, I thought they could serve bread with a main course. I think you'd expect bread at most restaurants at this price point. All things considered, the food was excellent. The service was better than average, except for the the overcharge on the wine. Would I return? Absolutely. But, again, you need to watch your check to ensure you're billed the correct amount.

Seafood was very good

I had the summer bouillabaisse for dinner and was incredibly satisfied just eating that alone. Very filling and the amount of seafood you get is adequate. I’d come back and just do the same thing I did this time.
