Greasy mess for take out

By JimK |

Picked up pizza to go. I was the passenger holding the pie. Was so greasy, within 2 minutes I had sauce and grease oozing from corner of the box all over my clothes and on the all-weather (thankfully) car floor mat. Had this been sitting on the car seat, a loud conversation would be taking place with Pequods today. Advice for take out customers, bring a plastic bag to put the pizza box in. As far as the taste of the pie, was really good. Too bad it cost a pair of pants and car interior cleanup.

Go to Lou Malnati's Instead, this place is heavily overrated

By savvy525 |

The very definition of overrated. I wish I could say my visit was pleasant. The reservation system would not allow me to make a reservation for more than 6 people. This was even though my party had ten people in it. I called a week prior to speak to someone about having the reservation changed to ten people. They said that their reservation system doesn't allow for more than six people, but that if I showed up early for the reservation, there would be a good chance they would be able to accommodate my party of 10. I showed up an hour and a half before the reservation to let the host know about the size of my party size. She very rudely said that there was absolutely no way that they could do that. I thus had to call four people from my party and ask them not to show up. When the host finally seated us, she placed us at the furthest table in the back, where every employee walked back and forth in front of the kitchen. The worst part, however, was that there was a table right in front of us, in the middle of the room, that held 12 total people. That's frustrating to see, especially when the host rudely said that a table of that size wasn't available. There were two other empty booths to the left of that table, and when we asked about them, we were told that other parties had reserved them. Why is it that parties of similar sizes, with reservations at similar times, end up getting different tables? It's especially frustrating when they showed up and we saw that they were both parties of white people. Thus, the people of color get less than ideal tables. Once our pizza order came in, we asked the server for two glasses of beer. That request took 14 minutes. By the time the beer orders came in, the pizza had gotten cold. Choose Lou Malnati's instead. I have had great experiences there.

Excellent pizza

By Twinsmom99 |

We’ve tried lots of deep dish pizza in Chicago. We loved this pizza. The burnt cheese on the sides is so tasty. And so many toppings! They are very generous with the toppings.

Yummy !

By HappyWoodturner |

Visit Chicago for the first time we felt we had to try the deep dish pizza… After pulling fellow visitors, residence and staff during a visit the clear recommendation was to go to Pequod’s….. so glad we did… This was one of the best pizzas I’ve had in my life… And I’ve eaten a lot of pizza… I recommend the extra caramelized cheese … to die for!

Excellent deep dish pizza

By fr38 |

An EXCELLENT deep-dish pizza which is the typical Chicago dish. This pizza is totally different from the one we are used to in Europe. But she is very good. The portions are generous. We have eaten several deep-dish pizzas in different places and this one is really the best.

Believe the Hype

By JDUK1 |

This deep dish here is just incredible, the crust like the crisped topping of a lasagne, with a deliciously rich meatiness underlying it. For anyone doubting whether it is worth coming in from downtown, it really is as I don't believe anything like this is available elsewhere.

Best deep dish in town

By Whitelock13 |

Family of 4 visited and had a beautiful meal. Great character and the food is definitely worth the hype. We had a large deep dish which could feed an army. The thin crust NY style was also delicious. Highly recommend. Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

A deep dish of dreams at Pequod's

By Tchelo Campilho |

Pequod's delivered Chicago's best deep dish — and maybe life's best. Sausage full of flavor, crispy edge in size and super balanced cheese. Quick and very good service. Worth every fork!

Perfect Pizza

By Justin J |

They gave me the wrong pizza, but it was so good I can't even dock them a star. Thin crust pepperoni w/ onions was amazing.

Great neighborhood Pizza

By travelMC3 |

much more authentic joint and crust lives up to description! Caramelized cheese....what else needs to be said!

Great first meal in Chicago!

By Melanie M |

We had a Caesar salad and half and half deep dish pizza, split between 2 people. It was more than enough and we even took some home. Everything was really very good, I enjoyed it very much. The staff was very nice as well. My daughter who lives in Chicago now recommended the place and it certainly lived up to expectations.

Very good pizza restaurant with good pizza

By Harry P |

Very nice pizza restaurant! Even though this restaurant is short staffed its still has very good pizza. Th pepperoni pizza is my favourite. Probably one of my favourites in Chicago!

Chicago April 2024

By Mark J |

One bite was all it took to proclaim Pequod’s the best deep dish pizza in Chicago I’ve had the other Chicago deep dish pizzas which are all very good and deserve their accolades but Pequod’s is better The cheese , sauce & crust combine in a tasty harmony that can’t be beat

BEST DEEP DISH IN CHICAGO

By Crusader |

This is definitely the best deep dish pizza I ever had! Loved it! And sandwiches AMAZING! A very long wait but definitely worth it!

Chicago pan pizza!

By joaniemaria |

We arrived around 5 pm on a weekday. This was our first visit to Pequod Pizza. It was quite busy considering the time of day. We were seated immediately, however. We ordered a medium pepperoni and sausage pan style pizza. I would call it deep dish. The pieces are quite large and a small pizza would have been enough for three of us. It is filling. We boxed up the last two pieces to take home with us. The flavor of the sauce, crust, and cheese is delicious. I recommend Pequods for your pizza stop. It is excellent, quintessential Chicago pizza and atmosphere.

Why did it take so long?

By Taylor B |

I've been a pizza lover since the late 1940s. My parents often entertained friends on Saturday nights in our recreation hall/party room/bar/basement. They would order several pizzas from the only pizza parlor in our area--they were big on pepperoni--and my brother and I would go downstairs in the morning to munch on cold pizza. Now there is a pizza parlor on every block. And pepperoni is as popular as ever. Lately, I have been looking for a new favorite pizza parlor. My old favorite moved out of our neighborhood. Another went out of business. One stopped delivering in our neighborhood. What to do? Recently, I have been sampling from one place to another. I've come to love Pequods Pizza. Why did it take so long? In recent years, Pequods has been rated as the No. 1 pizza in Chicago by several critics, pizza surveys and food magazines. So I finally decided to give it a try. Located at 2207 North Clybourn Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, it is everything that it is advertised to be. Personally, I prefer delivery. I enjoy eating pizza while watching a movie or sporting event on TV. And I always order a charge pizza so I can reheat some slices at a later time, maybe the late movie. I haven't changed my order in years...a large, 16-inch thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage. I especially like Pequods pizza because the crust is thin and light and chewy. Not too much tomato sauce. Not too much cheese. Plenty of sausage. No pepperoni. More good news. It isn't likely that Pequods will be moving out of the neighborhood any time soon.

Delicious deep dish

By Nomadnz |

Place to go to experience delicious deep dish pizza. Especially if you've had bad immitations around the world , this is what it's all about

Huge Dissapointment

By sharondarelli |

Worst pizza I ever had. We ordered a thin crust --BIG MISTAKE-- and my daughter said it tasted like airport pizza! No flavor at all, not a crispy crust and too much cheese. The crust was like cardboard. I wish we would have tried the deep dish, but any bona fide Chicago pizza place should be able to master both style or else take it off your damn menu! Trying to fine some homeless folks to give it to.

Great pizza joint

By Alex_19751 |

I visited here after recommendation from a friend, it doesn't disappoint, it's a must visit for anyone in Chicago to try some truly great deep dish pizza, good portions of cheese and meat on the pizza, cooked very well and a lovely thick crust. I would visit here again and recommend it to friends and family

Excellent and I don't even like deep dish

By Jeff B |

I am not a Chicago style pizza fan, but this place does it the best! I've tried a number of places. We had a traditional pie with sausage (outstanding), pepperoni and mushroom. The crust is less buttery than other places which is a plus for me. The quality of the meats and cheeses is clear. The sauce is savory and flavorful. The staff was nothing short of amazing. Decent beer selection. Good place to watch sports. I even bought a t shirt which is something I never do. We loved this place!

Zarella's thumb's up, Pequod's not so much

By Bob M |

Tonight was a tale of 2 pizzas. We had a medium pan pizza, 1/2 pepperoni, 1/2 mushroom which was good. The crust, sauce, cheese and toppings were all good and well prepared. Unfortunately, we ordered a medium thin crust pizza with the same toppings and it was terrible. The crust is like cardboard. When I told our waitress about it she even said "Yeah, I don't like it either. Yesterday we had a thin crust pizza from Zarella's (spelling?) and it was great. The crust was half the thickness of Pequod's and had much more flavor. We also ordered a salad which wasn't bad but the dressings weren't that good. It seems like they try to home make their dressings but don't succeed (we had italian and then had to replace it with bleu cheese). This was our first real venture into the world of Chicago pizza and would definitely have Zarella's again, Pequod's not so much.

Post Chiefs celebration

By DocDeb911 |

Great service and pizza! Adam was friendly and wonderful. So happy we stopped in! Sausage pizza so good. Salads were fresh too.

Fantastic!!

By Stuart T |

I realise opinions vary on which is the best deep pan pizza in Chicago, but this was my second try and I was blown away by it. I ordered a “small” (about enough for two people) with sausage, peppers, garlic and onion. It was so yummy I ate way too much and only left one slice - I physically couldn’t manage any more. The flavour was superb but the thing that really distinguishes a Pequod’s is the wonderful crispy crust (done by letting cheese melt over the edges). The “well baked” approach really elevated all the flavours to maximum richness and I can’t imagine any other pizza place beating Pequod’s. Just magnificent!

Perfect Pequod's Pizza

By fortysix_0406 |

We were recommended Pequod's Pizza as one the best places to try classic Chicago deep-dish pizza. They did not disappoint. The service was prompt and very helpful. The pizzas we ordered were delicious. High recommended.

Vastly Disappointed

By lasalle s |

Worst pizza I have ever had. Almost as bad as dominos. 4 people had the same opinion. Overrated and overpriced by far. Much better deep dish pizza options in downtown Chicago. Wings were very good.

Awesome time

By Robert S |

Reserved a table for family time and ordered a pan pepperoni pizza large, large cheese, and large pepperocini with sausage and they were delicious and we all enjoyed the first visit. I will visit more again and again. Rebecca our waitress was phenomenal and made sure we were ok. Thank you Pequads restaurant for the hospitality

Just tasted like...thick pizza....?

By Visokoo |

I confess that I'm not much of a pizza lover myself, but being in Chicago for the first time, I felt like I had to give Deep Dish Pizza a try. Talking to locals here and talking to locals in NY about where the best pizza is yields the same experience. Everyone has a different preference, but two recurring ones kept coming up, Pequod's and Giardano's. The thing that stuck out about Pequod's though is the crispy cheese crust. My friend was immediately sold and we made our way there. On a Tuesday night, it was empty enough where there was no wait for a table. For a party of 7, we decided to do 2 large pizzas. That was definitely a mistake. We basically had an entire pizza leftover. The wait for the two pizzas was about an hour and the server told us as much. I was reading through some other reviews and folks mentioned that the servers were rude. Hannah, our server, was very attentive and came back to check on us several times on drinks and such. Unfortunately my first bite into it was pretty underwhelming. It....just tasted like a pizza? I would liken it to Dominoes like flavor (locals, please don't shoot me). The only thing different was the crust was incredibly thick and I basically felt like I was eating thick texas toast with pizza toppings. Maybe that's what it is at the end of the day, but I might have been oversold on the hype. The crispy cheese crust WAS good, but it was only a small portion of the pizza. I wish my pictures captured how thick the crust was, but at least the toppings were tasty? I've been told that deep dish pizza is typically not like that and instead of a very thick piece of bread, it's a ton of cheese instead. I think I might give Giardano's a try next time.

Unexpected must try pizza gem!

By Clarissa S |

Food was great! I was originally worried because other reviews mentioned the pizza sauce being spicy and I’m not a spicy person. It was flavorful and not spicy! My husband and I split a medium and it was perfect because we still had a little left to take home if we wanted to. I got a yummy Tito’s with cranberry and the pizza was half pineapple/ham and half meatball/fresh garlic with extra cheese on all of it. Bothe the crust and meatballs were not heavy/dense which was unexpectedly exciting! Our bill came out to about $45 before tip. I do recommend using the online reservation system as the dining room filled up fast. We originally booked for 12:30 but plans changed and we were there at 11:10 but they took us in anyway :) there was graffiti in the bathroom but according to their signs inside they do try to clean it up but people constantly deface it. From the outside it’s not a place we would normally just stop in but luckily the raving reviews helped!

Not Chicago Deep Dish - not even

By Pat S |

Sunday night. Crowded. Noisy. Tables jammed together. Plastic utensils!! For pizza!! Good service. Mozzarella sticks from a food Svc company. Salad boring and skimpy. Pizza mainly doughy bread w tomato sauce. Carmelized crust is just burnt cheese which I guess could be good but wasn’t. Go to Malnati’s if you want Chicago Deep Dish and a memorable salad.

Pequods deep dish baked bread

By Stanley B |

My family ordered three Pequod's pan pizzas in December of 2025 and we were very disappointed. Pizza mainly consisted of bread as shown in attached picture. I talked to our server, and she informed me pizza was baked per their standards. I also followed with email and picture to Pequod's management and their response was: The pictures looks like our normal pizza So, if you want bread then Pequod's is your place. For those seeking pan pizza, find different restaurant to satisfy you pan pizza craving.

This Is The Real Deal Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

By RandB_rollout1124 |

After getting the recommendation of this place from my friend and actual Chicagoan I must say that I was most pleasantly surprised! I say this because my only previous experience with Chicago deep dish was that place that rhymes with "tableau", LOL. The sauce makes a pizza for me, and Pequod's is tasty. Nice big and crunchy crust. So good indeed that it was worth the hot restaurant itself. I would make a reservation if you are going to eat here. Plus it's real easy on the website. That was perfect, especially since we were coming in for a Chi-Town visit. I would definitely recommend and I would eat here again when I'm back in the Chi.

This is NOT Chicago style deep dish pizza

By jock b |

I've wanted to try Pequods for years because of their reputation. I finally had the chance yesterday and was extremely disappointed. The pizza was as if a non-Italian who never worked in a restaurant saw a picture of a pizza and decided he could construct something that resembled it. The crust was not pizza crust; it was oddly herbed focaccia dough or bread dough. the sauce was sparse but over-spiced, tasting more like salsa than tomato sauce. Cheese was tasteless. Sausage was ok. I have a sneaking suspicion that all the crusts are baked ahead of time, and then the toppings are added for quick assembly. Forget the hype, Malnati's or the original Uno's are the best. This "pizza" is awful.

Great visit with family!

By danmartinez38 |

Went with a family of 4 on a Wednesday night. Service was excellent. Crowded, but got a table immediately. House salad was ok, draught beer was great (zombie dust), and the pizza was excellent! Deep dish, but not crazy thick. Excellent crispy crust. Highly recommend. Whole family loved it! Recommend a reservation

Deep Dish is Meh

By Rebecca P |

It’s quite possible that I just don’t understand how deep dish can be the best pizza in the United States when it’s mostly just dough. I was expecting lots of cheese and toppings. I did enjoy the crust. It was great. The online ordering isn’t great. Wouldn’t do that again. The photo of the chickens wings are not breaded but they come breaded so we had to send those back, which I hate doing, but if you’re going to insist on ordering only have more accurate information. It was loud, so loud and I think I was just over stimulated after a long day but expect tight spaces and crowding.

Delicious pan pizza

By joaniemaria |

Second visit. Stopped at 3 pm on a weekday. Super busy place. We had reservations but still waited to be seated. Orders cheese garlic bread , and meatball pepperoni pan pizza. The servings are large. Be aware if that. Delicious!

First Chicago style pizza = Good!

By Von1287 |

So, this was September 2021 and they were not staffed well and they were not busy. That said, we had called ahead and were seated on second floor where no one else was. The service really was not great and the antipasto was not great either. But the main event was fantastic! We loved the style of this pizza and the burnt cheese really made it! Would recommend coming for just the pizza and I would come back. It is a little outside of city center so we biked here but it was accessible.

Wanted to try authentic Chi- Style deep-dish; went with who had good reviews! It was still aweful!

By BigNunz23 |

We tried place when we were in Chicago on August 6th I believe. Maybe 5th…we had only ever tried deep dish from places waaaay down South and thought that there might be a little more nuance at a Chicago eatery. As usual, the people reviewing are IMHO kids who grew up microwaving and eating Spaghettio’s out of the can. Aside from the young man that walked us thru the ordering process at the front counter ( he was a gem) the rest of this was sub-par. No dedicated parking. You’ll have to find something somewhere down the block and walk a few blocks. The wait even after we ordered the Pizza was an hour and this 14 or 15” pizza with 3 topping was like $55 I think….and, as you probably are already anticipating; the condiments were undercooked and the dough on the bottom was boiled dough. Sorry but for that price, it can’t be that bad. You should re-train your cooks to prepare the pie in stages the way it’s supposed to be done. But as it is…next time I’m up there I’ll try a different place HOPING that someone else can give deep-dish a leg to stand on. Sorry but it’s a FAIL.

Great Pizza! At a Reasonable Price.

By El Turista John |

Although a bit out of the way, I was happy I took “Somebody Feed Phil’s” advice and headed over to Pequod for some great Chicago deep-dish pizza. I had the deep-dish pizza with pepperoni, onion, and some garlic and was thoroughly satisfied when I left. The service was great and I appreciate all the measures they took to ensure safety during the pandemic. My only complaint is that I took the server’s advice and had an appetizer (jalapeño poppers), which, although tasty, left less room for the delicious pizza. Definitely worth a visit or for take-out!!

Worth a trip to Chicago to experience pizza paradise...deep dish style

By Yankeedawg1 |

As a 76 yo male who’s been blessed to do a good deal of traveling....and numerous opportunities to enjoy pizza....this was a classic..... pizza starts with a crust that has To be the supporting component.... wimpy crust is a failure....Pequod’s crust is up to the task....our group sampled many of the fresh and plentiful toppings.....and the final Two components...cheese and the sauce.... too much cheese and you have a glob.. Too little...lends to disappointment.... the sauce brings it all together...Once again..Pequods meets the challenge..... Marry this with a nice selection of quality beers you have a truly fine combination......wait staff is excellent and add to the overall experience... well worth the effort to seek out and try...

Not what I expected - plus 50 min's late

By jeffkb |

After hearing from many to try Pequods ended up ordering delivery as I wanted to experience a real Chicago Pizza. Ordered for delivery at a specific time and waited, and waited. After a number of calls wanting to find out where the pizza was it finally arrived 50 min's later than I was told was only luke warm by then. Driver didn't seem to care and was only told they were busy - ordered for lunch not diner. The Pizza may have been better hot but was not impressed as the crust was very thick and the sauce layer was thin. For the price felt I had better pizza's at the national chain. Ended up going to another well known Chicago Pizza place and was very impressed by that one so did get a chance to compare and this one was lacking.

Absolutely the best pizza

By Christina H |

While visiting Chicago, my daughter decided that I absolutely had to have Chicago deep dish pizza. Oh my goodness! this pizza was amazing! It was a Saturday night, so the place was packed, but we scored a seat at the upstairs bar. The bartender was very friendly as well as helpful. He suggested that we order a fried zucchini appetizer because it takes about 45-60 minutes to bake the pizza. Good plan. The pizza was delicious, especially the crust which is caramelized onion with cheese dripping over the sides. We ordered a medium and were only able to finish half. Looking forward to having pizza for breakfast this morning!

Unbelievable

By B Naile |

This place is unbelievable. we had a reservation and walked in the place was absolutely packed and felt like you couldn't fit another person in, and we were seated immediately. They took us through what felt like a maze to the second foor and had a nice high top table. Service was excellent, and prompt. The guy helped us make sure we did not order enough pizza for the whole bar lol. They pizza was outstanding. The richness of the sauce as well as the crispness of the dough was devine. I cannot recommend this place enough. Its a great local spot!

Sad experience

By Vicki S |

No gluten free options. Very disappointing. Not gluten friendly and was told the owner doesn’t care. My server said that if he was the owner that he would put gluten-free options on the menu so everybody could come to eat here. I came for Father’s Day with my whole family and I am the only one that had to have just a salad a plain salad.

Good, heavy pizza

By candyxcandy |

Typically American pizza: heavy, greasy, immense, but very good. Definitely book if you want to come and eat here. Always very full and despite making a reservation, you may have to wait 10/15 minutes to sit down. I recommend taking the smaller portion or sharing it. Prices on average with those of Chicago.

Worst pizza ever.

By debs |

I was hoping this was going to be good based on positive reviews...but I think you're all nuts! This was by far the worst pizza I've ever had...and I eat a lot of pizza. I ordered a cheese pan (deep dish, although nothing like Chicago deep dish) with spinach on half. It was a super thick piece of dense bread with sauce on top and a little cheese. It tasted like a loaf of bread with tomato sauce. The carmalized crust that's supposed to be their specialty...it's burnt cheese. It tasted burnt and I couldn't chew through it and had to spit it out. Nothing good about the entire pizza, I threw most of it away. I'm sticking to my Chicago favorite. which is def not this.

What's the big deal?

By Kim |

I keep telling my NYC born relatives that there is definitely good pizza in Chicago, but so far we haven't found it. Went to this place on a local's recommendation - the staff was great. Long wait for pizza so you end up eating a bunch of other junk. The pizzas were...eh. We each ordered a personal pie- the edges were good, but the rest of the crust tasted like cheap white bread. Sauce was good. It wasn't....bad...it just wasn't GREAT!...Is there great pizza in Chicago???? Where is it???

Good vibes

By Rowena E |

Was a great experience, server was attentive (took too long to review-forgot his name) Food was great, service timely fashion. Pub kinda vibe. They have a small outdoor space, really cool!!! Oh the curds are AMAZING!!!

Mid pizza

By Old H |

Service was good. Price wasn’t bad. Pizza is very average. Burnt crust and sauce isn’t very tasty. Wouldn’t recommend. Tried deep dish and thin both very mid.

BEST DEEP DISH

By BAVANRUDEN |

So happy to have found this spot! My fiancé wanted deep dish in Chicago for his birthday. When I saw the ratings on this place, I knew we had to try it. Wow! We loved everything about it. We had a medium cheese pan pizza. Next time we would definitely get the small, the medium was too big for us. We also had a half order of fries which were really good too. This place runs like a well-oiled machine, staff coming and going everywhere. Our waitress told us right away that the pizza would take around 45 minutes to cook and made sure we were okay with that. If you are in a rush, this might not be the place for you. But it was so worth the wait! Glad we were able to snag Friday night reservations as this place was packed. Highly recommend getting reservations! We will for sure make the trip back the next time we are in Chicago.

Good but not as good as NY Style

By Thomas K |

Extremely busy place. Reservations are a must. The service was good and food arrived quickly, We were a bit disappointed in the thin crust pizza. Reviews were very good and a local recommended it to us but although the sauce and cheese were very good. The crust was lacking. We are used to NY Style so may be why this didn't live up to our expectations.

Quality Deep Dish Pizza 👌🏼

By Valentin C |

Cuisine: Knowing that this is the first time I've eaten a Deep Dish Pizza, I can't really compare it. However, I found it pretty good. Of course it has nothing to do with a “classic” pizza and it’s rather filling but it’s quite good. A pizza for two is more than enough. Then being able to choose your ingredients is nice (5/5) Service: Friendly and good advice (5/5) Ambiance: Simple ambiance and atmosphere, a bit pub style. Quite rustic but still nice (5/5) Price: Absolutely correct (5/5)

Morton Grove Pequods par baked

By LightPacker817624 |

Read the recent reviews and decided to get one for Christmas eve. Bought a large par baked sausage. Kept it refrigerated before cooking it. Wasn't sure how to cook it. I did it on the middle oven rack for 12 minutes. It came out hot but the crust was like a thick piece of hard toast. Tasted ok but didn't live up to the reputation and we were disappointed after looking forward to it all day. Maybe a fully cooked one would be better.

Not worth the hype

By marie b |

Pizza is very tasty but is extremely pricey for what you get. I'm glad I went once to see what all the hype was about, but it was not worth the $ and effort. Plenty of other options in Chicago.

An institution...gourmet and generous!

By NR70 |

An institution not to be missed! This variety of pizza...is a dish in its own right...excellent, delicious and...very nourishing! Two...hungry...we took the 12' (garlic, basil, tomatoes, jalapañuos mushrooms) and there was 1/4 left!

Oh man. So good! Que Rico!!

By MSM |

Oh man. So good! Que Rico!! Great sausage. Amazing sauce and just enough crust to tie it all Together.

Not What I Expected

By Luvs2Travel5914 |

Having gone to Chicago with family, we decided to try this pizza place. We ordered one pan pizza, not realizing it was not a true Chicago Deep Dish. No sauce on top. The crust on bottom was very thick and two of us broke our plastic forks and knives trying to cut it. I will say that the toppings was very generous. I scrapped them off and just ate the toppings. They were delicious. Bread sticks and cheese were good. For $60.00 for the 4 of us with one pizza, one order of breadsticks and a couple drinks, was kinda pricy. Refills were hard to get and our waiter was hard to find at times.

Fantastic pie!!!

By M P |

This place has it down to a sweet science of quick service-order goes to kitchen while the server is taking it! And the pizza—OMG. Awesome! The wings were good not amazing. Must do—a Chi-town famous place for deep dish!!

Ordering experience is twisted

By costaricagregg |

The pizza was deep dish and good as expected. The ordering process was way too hard with a bad app that would not accept apple pay and way too complicated. Pizza was great and as expected we could only finish one slice each.

Great Pizza!

By Alicia S |

My husband and I went to experience a Chicago Deep Dish and Pequods did not disappoint. The pizza was so delicious. Definitely will be returning next time I’m in the area.

Long waits

By Isunwin |

Before traveling to Chicago, I did some research on best pizzas and this came up. It is very popular! We made a reservation on Saturday, but even with our reservation, we didn’t get seated until after 10:45pm. Service was friendly, but it took a very long time for our cheese pizza to come out (our friends sausage pizza came out before ours). The sauce is a bit tangy so I added salt which made it better. We ordered the appetizer platter of onion rings, jalapeño poppers and fried zucchini. That was delicious.

Deep dish is the purpose of our visit, not disappointed.

By Patrick A |

My son says this is the best deep dish in town so we had to go have some. It was very good. We had a nice pitcher of beer which waiting and ate a great deal.

Surely the best Deep Dish pizza in town

By Liisulo |

It was surely the best deep dish pizza in town. I wouldn´t compare this to any Italian pizza, it was really one of a kind. But really delicious. The restaurant was super crowded and we were seated right next to point where stuff puts all the dirty dishes so it was not just noicy but the smell from thebio waste was pretty strong. So be sure not to be seated there.

Great deep dish

By Jeremy C |

The wait for a deep dish pizza can be 45+ minutes, but the wait is worth it! The crust is good but its the sauce that really shines. Salads and appetizers are fine.

Excellent deep pan pizza

By Reidun H |

Together with 3 classmates i visited pequonds. The hope was to eat real Chicago-styled pizza. And we for sure did! Even My fried who practically was raised in a pizzeria agreed - this was a Great deep pan pizza and together with friendly service i give it My top score !

Chicago style pizza for lunch

By Sanna |

Fantastic lunch on a Monday afternoon! Our individual deep dish pizzas were awesome and the prices were ridiculously good. Great beer on tap; even a sour beer was available. You can’t beat the $5 lunch special. Our server was very nice and friendly. Only downside was the long wait time.

Truly AMAZING!!!

By Sightseer645785 |

Areli and Noah were freaking AMAZING! their customer service and food recommendations was truly outstanding! You have to come to this location. #1 in town!

Good pizza, the worst service

By ananubo |

Great pizza but the WORST service!! The waitress with a bad attitude, it took an hour for our pizza to arrive. She gave us a bad time a while. I would not recommend it!!

P is for Pizza and Pequod's

Pequod's has fantastic pizza. And I'm not a pizza neophyte. We get Lou Malnatti's at least once or twice a month. We use Groupon to frequent Pizzaria Due's a few times a year. Giordanni's is down the street. Gino's East is a fifteen minute walk and Pizano's is always a lunch favorite when going to McCormick place. They're all good. And each has something unique to offer. What Pequod's has going for it's pizza is a really nice crust. It's not tough or too chewy. Perfect crispness and the edges have a caramelized crunch. I'm also a fan of the flavor of their sauce. It's got a bit of sweetness and not the acidic taste that often causes heartburn. Expect to wait cuz it's crowded in the unassuming bar-type dining room. Use Yelp waitlist. Service is friendly and efficient. Expect to wait for your pizza after you order. Get the poppers or a large salad and drink a Goose Island beer and watch something on the big screen TVs.

Service poor

By Eva |

Went for supper as a group of five. Great pizza. Bad waitress experience.. The waitress spilled an entire soda all over the table and over one of the people in my party. His pants were soaked. The bench he had been sitting on was soaked. Her response ? “ I’m sorry. Let’s forget this ever happened.” Really? And not even the soda was given as a complimentary item?? It would have been a small gesture to acknowledge the mistake and the inconvenience. Then as we were paying the waitress asked me to stack the plates that were on the table and to pass them to her … weird.

Similar to Pizza Hut

By Melinda T |

Just as awful as it was in the 70s when my parents dragged us to the Morton Grove original location. Caramelized crust on pan pizza. *shudders* Go to Giordonos instead. It's a hundred times better.

Good Pizza

By Cassie Chichester |

My husband and I visited last year around September. I was torn between Pequod/Giordano/Lou Malnati's. After lots of "research" (aka google search) I decided on Pequods. We took an Uber to this part of town since it was a little further out from where we were staying on Magnificent Mile. Worth the trip. The pizza was so good. It did take awhile and was really hot inside which was uncomfortable. They did have fans going so that helped a bit. We'd return.

Fantastic Pizza

By WhereintheUSisMikey |

We went to Pequod’s Pizza after the Bears game and it was the right choice. The pan pizza is so good with that caramelized crust you will love it. We were seated upstairs and the place also has tv’s where we were able to watch the Sunday Night game. The service is good but not great but the pizza is worth it.

Best Chicago deep dish!

By Jason C |

While in Chicago for an event, I found had been recommended by a friend and Tripadvisor that Pequods was the best Chicago deep dish in town. Although farther from downtown than walking distance, I was happy I took the Uber! Service was great, beers were cold, and the pizza was so good it took the sting off of watching my dear Celtics get crushed by the Heat in a must win playoff game. I got the pepperoni individual and it was more than enough, but if I was doing it again I would have gotten a “small” to have a slice to bring back with me. Awesome place, dive bar vibe, amazing pie. 5 full stars!

Authentic Deep Dish/Pan Pizza

By PFitzy73 |

I pre-booked a seat for 1 at the bar. You don’t need to book as they accept walk-ins but it gets very busy and I arrived at peak time on a Saturday. The Deep dish/Deep Pan pizza lives up to the hype. By far the best Pizza in Chicago. Jeffrey took care of me at the bar and my visit to Pequods was definitely worth the 4000 mile round-trip from the UK. I highly recommend this place.

Authentic Chicago Pizza

By Mollie L |

Great pizza, casual atmosphere. We tried both the deep dish and thin crust and both were very tasty. We came with Chicago natives and they did not oversell it.

It was good pizza, but not what I was looking for.

By Jessica H |

I actually enjoyed this pizza really well. I expected more sauce for Chicago style. I wanted it super saucy and this didn't have as much as I thought. The crust was super crunchy, though!

Excellent Deep Dish

By Adam and Becki |

This was our second time to Pequod’s and it didn’t disappoint. They have delicious deep dish pizza (even made it a half and half for us), and affordable drinks. It’s about a 15 minute walk off the El, but near a bridge where you can catch a nice sunset first. We’d recommend making a reservation or doing takeout from here.

What Chicago Deep Dish is Meant to Be

By Suzy B |

From our first step in the door we knew this place was legit. It’s nothing fancy but reservations are a necessity. Ordering via QR code took a little learning curve, but ultimately it was an easy way for our table to run two separate tabs. We all ordered personal size pizzas to get the toppings we liked. Nothing was lost with the smaller size pies. We each experienced generous cheese and toppings atop a light and buttery crust with scrumptiously caramelized edges. This is what Chicago Deep Dish is meant to be.

Top Rank Deep Dish Pizza

By Edwin Padilla |

Let’s get right to the crust of things, just about everyone loves pizza. Being a big city kid at heart, on our recent trip to Chicago we had the pleasure of following up on our research of who has the best deep dish pizza in Chicago. Hands down Pequod’s Pizza is top rank. We were impressed by the texture, flavor and depth of love that we experienced. To our culinary delight, the profile of their pizza is benchmark quality. We had tickets for a Friday day game at Wrigley Field, and realized if we go to Pequod’s after the game, it would flogged with customers, so we went the Thursday before and enjoyed the ambience, atmosphere and most of all the deep dish pizza experience. We ordered the two 7” Deep Dish Lunch specials…Pepperoni and Sausage….Spinach & Mushrooms plus Blue Moon Beer. No regrets, just pure love. Kudos to Pequod’s. It’s an institution and truly the best Deep Dish Pizza joint in Chicago. Thanks Tripsters, Chef Neal Padilla Good Food…Good Vibes

Ah-mazing!

By Ali G |

We saw this place in "Somebody please feed Phil", had great reviews and had to try it out. The service was fantastic. They sat us right away even though we had no reservation. They are meticulous with their Covid protocol/sanitation and have a whole set of instructions that's given to you as they walk you to the table or bar. Our waiter/bartender gave us great recommendations and we pretty much went with all his suggestions. The pizza was amazing!!! The soup was also very tasty and it went well with the cold weather we were sheltering from. We ordered one pizza and it was more than enough for the both of us. It does take some time to prepare but it is totally worth it.

Best pizza I have ever eaten!

By sid a |

Oh this pizza was so good! Can’t do it justice in words … amazing!!! Seriously the best tastiest pizza I have ever eaten! Pizza edges are cheesy and caramelised and are just so good!

Overrated touristy meh pizza.

By Anna O |

Super overrated. Might as well go to Jets pizza chain. Crust was gross. As an actual Chicagoan who was also a tour guide, I advise against it. Let the bucktown tech bros who live around there rave about it but actual chicagoans go to Lous, pizanos, or Uno's. The same people who rave about pequods rave about Giordano's.

A Chicago staple

By NBentley2014 |

Despite all my visits to Chicago, I’d yet to try the pizza Chicago is famous for — deep dish, or pan pizza as it’s known at the very popular Pequod’s Pizzeria. Fixed that during my last stay in December with a dinner delivery. My daughter and I split the medium pan pizza (12”) and the full Caesar salad. Pequod’s pizza is known for its caramelized crust, achieved by cooking the pizza in a cast iron pan. The pizza is good and very filling. We had loads left for round two the next day. The salad was nice and fresh but we definitely could have used more dressing. Order BEFORE you are hungry. My daughter said they make each pizza to order and deep dish takes a long time to cook. I’d say ours with us in about 90 minutes, which can happen if the place is busy and just makes you enjoy it all the more.

We left. Without pizza.

By Tess H |

I’ve got a bone to pick, and it’s not with the pizza (though I’ll get to that later). It’s with everything that led up to it. Let’s talk about service. A couple of friends and I walk into this place, excited for a pizza that’s been getting decent reviews. We’re greeted by a server who, with no hesitation, tells us that the wait for a pizza is 45 minutes. Fine. We’re not in a rush, and we’re okay with a little patience. But let me tell you something: That “45-minute wait” turned into over 90 minutes. And guess what? No communication from the staff, no updates, no sense of urgency—just a steady stream of beer glasses being refilled while we sat there like idiots, starving. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a job to do, a life to live, and after an hour and a half of watching other tables get served—before us—I had enough. We left. Without pizza. I don’t know if it would’ve been the best pizza of my life or if it would’ve come out cold and soggy—because I’ll never know. If you’re a restaurant that quotes a wait time, that’s a commitment. It’s not a suggestion, it’s not a hopeful guesstimate—it’s a promise. And when you fail to deliver on that, everything else falls apart. Save your time, save your money. Don’t bother. This is a place that’s clearly overwhelmed or disorganized or both—and it’s not worth the headache. Avoid it.

DEEP DISH HEAVEN!!!1

By Bob C |

Upon recommendation of several locals, I selected Pequod's for authentic deep dish. It is indescribable. I have no reason to try another. The crust, toppings and volume of perfect deep dish pizza cannot possibly be matched! Highly recommended by this pizza aficionado!!!

Meh at best

By LDanelis |

Not quite sure why this restaurant is rated so highly. This was our first Chicago deep dish experience and it was less than exciting. Pizza is bland and features a flavourless tomato sauce. Service was ok. Average at best.

My Fave Pizza In The Whole World

By SueLovesDuke |

We first "met" this place while on Chicago Pizza Tour (highly recommend it) and have returned a few times when we are able while in Chicago. The deep dish is awesome (sausage), but this time it was the service that stood out. We dined last Saturday; had 11:30 reservations for lunch. We must have had at least 3 servers; each was extremely busy and super nice. Some of the best service anywhere. I was, however, disappointed that they were out of T-shirts. Figures I ought to buy/wear one as much as I love that place. We WILL be back someday.

Best pizza ever

By stevebintley |

Famous and for very good reason - if you’re wanting an authentic Chicago pizza you have to come here! For some reason I was expecting it to be a noisy and hectic experience, but the whole restaurant was actually pretty relaxing yet still with a great atmosphere. There’s loads of seating, including upstairs where there’s a bar with TV screens showing sport. From the moment we arrived the staff were super friendly and helpful with the menu and what to expect from the meal. There’s the option to order via QR code and when you do so drinks and items arrive quickly even when it’s busy. Pizzas are cooked fresh to order so take almost an hour to arrive, but it’s well worth the wait. We found the 10” a good size for two people, especially given how large the ceasar salad was! Certainly one of the nicest pizzas I’ve ever tasted and without a doubt will be visiting again next time I’m in the city - highly recommended!

Rated #1 for a reason

By Brenda P |

The pizza did not disappoint! It lived up to the expectation of the #1 rated pizza in the country! I am originally from Chicago and grew up on Chicago deep dish pizza. This was my first time here and I was impressed! Rachel was provided exceptional service which made the whole dining experience even better!

Great experience, true deep dish

By EAY |

Amazing pizza. I made sure to try deep dish when visiting Chicago and I’m glad my buddy took me here. I would go back in a heartbeat if I was staying longer. MAKE A RESERVATION. People were told sometimes 2-3 hours before they would be seated, and we went on a Wednesday at 630pm. We got deep dish, a salad to share, and fried zucchini. Meal was amazing.

Pizza to go

By carlotatrx |

Take-away price not very excited, around 3 USD per delivery. The dough is supreme, would totally recommend to try some deep pizza if you are not from Chicago. However, the tomato sauce from Pequod was far too concentrated (saying this from a tomato lover's perspective), and the cheese was quite average. Given the quite high price, we were expecting more, especially given the extra $2.65 per topping, which consisted of few spinach leaves.

Excellent pizza, best deep dish I've had since being in Chicago. Pizza takes 40 minutes to be made then server brings it out.

Well deserved fame of being one of the best deep dish pizzas in Chicago. Very nice staff and amazing pizza with crusty borders. I would definitely repeat

Garlic meatball sandwich

Garlic bread on our meatball sub was great. Pizza was cooked just right. We made an hour and a half detour to go to Pequod’s. We were not disappointed.

I never knew pizza until Pequod’s! Make a reservation and be prepared to wait a good 30 for your pizza, as everything is made from scratch.

Mmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!

By scmellor |

This was the best pizza I have had in a long time! It was definitely with all of the hype! One slice is delightful, two is indulging, and if you can take down three slices of this pizza then GOD SPEED! If you can’t dine in, it’s worth getting it to go!!

Cold, mostly bread, pizza

By Jbeam |

Ordered a $40 pizza to pick up at Pequods in Morton Grove, IL Saturday, 8/31, at approx 4:45 pm. Was informed my pizza would be ready in 90 minutes. I went to pick it up 15 minutes early because I would rather wait than get a cold pizza and it was ready, and cold! We ordered deep dish and it was 3/4 bread. Sauce and toppings were good but pizza was not. Maybe a thin crust would be better, I don't know, but not if it is cold. It is a small restaurant but if you want hot pizza I recommend dining in. If you don't like your pizza to be an inch and a half of bread I would try the thin crust.

While I’m not a fellow citizen of Chicago, this was the best deep dish i had during my stay.

By The Middle Class Critic |

Visited from the UK. While I’m not a fellow citizen of Chicago this was the best deep dish i had during my stay. A laid back vibe, I left with a full belly, half a pizza leftover and 5 pieces of Merch from the counter. I wear my Pequods hat out and about in the UK with pride, even saw the place featured on one of my fav routine TV shows the Bear. Would highly recommend - thanks for the experience guys!

Chicago must do for pizza lovers.

By sunhead |

A smallish restaurant with usually a line so making reservations is a good idea. We had a basic order of salad and pizza. The caramelized crust is what they are known for and incredibly delicious. The pizza itself was not as good, to me anyway, as some of the other top Chicago places. Very good, but not top in my opinion. The true award goes to the staff. Hard working, friendly and patient with the questions that go with a table of 6 newbies. They made the meal go from great to outstanding.

Chicago’s deep-dish delight

By Larry Simson |

Absolutely delicious! This was my only deep-dish pizza stop in Chicago—and honestly, it might be the best. No need to book far ahead; we reserved less than an hour before and were seated right away. The cozy spot has warm lighting, beautiful brick walls, and super friendly staff. We split one small pizza and were totally full—thick, buttery crust with perfect caramelization, and rich, balanced sauce. Great value, too! Don’t miss it if you’re in the area!

Deep Dish Divinity!

By Family Guy |

Great food, service, & atmosphere! 🍕🍻 We ordered the deep dish and it was superb! Highly recommend this Chicago pizzeria!

Imposter Don’t order delivery.

By Robert I |

Pizza at the restaurant always lives up to the hype. My guess is they run a commissary kitchen for their delivery business because the one we had delivered was horrible.

Love it, love it

By Albert F |

My wife and I followed Phill Rosenthal to Chicago to try some Deep Dish Pizza at Pequod's to find that he was not exaggerating in the least. We really enjoyed the food and the staff. Trust me, have the sausage pizza. You will mot be disappointed. Overall, a great experience during difficult times.

Subpar pizza, maybe locals like it?

By Clayton M |

We ordered from Pequods and will certainly never want to return for the pizza. The reviews from others were so high, we thought we would give it a try. The pizza arrived with dough that was somehow undercooked while the crust was burnt, mushy toppings and was room temperature. I have to say, Gino's East and Unos consistently serve us great Chicago deep dish, and will continue to be our go-to deep dish pizza places.

Good Food, Long Waits

By Amanda |

Make a reservation!! We didn't know they took reservations before we arrived. Thankfully, our wait was only an hour, but earlier in the day it was a four hour wait. The atmosphere is great, the pizza and mozzarella sticks were great. The salad was nothing special. The desserts are pre-packaged. The service could be better. Our waitress wasn't very friendly. For two adults and an 11-year old girl, we ordered a half salad, an order of mozzarella sticks and a small pizza. We were all full when we left.

That carmelized cheesy crust around the edges, makes it!

By ificouldonlyfly |

Was in town wanting to try deep dish pizza - just about everything I read online, mentioned the pizza here as one of the best. I had pizza at a couple of the other places too, but this one was my favorite. I loved that carmelized cheesy crust that formed around the edges of the pizza - that put it over the top for me and a major reason I enjoyed it over the competitors. Overall, really good texture of the thick crust, tasty sauce & toppings, lots of cheese, and just a really great pizza. I had half pepperoni, and half pepperoni with fresh garlic & anchovies - I've never had anchovies on a pizza before (or on anything come to think of it), and it was very good, without overpowering everything else.

Tuesday night holiday pizza

By Jason R |

Looked at previous reviews on trip advisor, so trusted the recommendations and was not let down. The food was stunning, as good as any pizza I have eaten in Rome or Naples, great flavours and textures. The craft beers were excellent with A wide choice. Finally such really good service, attentive and very friendly Next time in Chicago we will be back

Deep Dish Champion!

By Henry’s Take |

The “2023 Chicago Deep Dish Challenge” made its final stop at Pequod’s. One of the many things that I’ve enjoyed while presenting “Henry’s Take” is exploring the great recommendations submitted by our followers. A special thanks to @jackvelasquez for his local insider information and for his repeated insistence that we include Pequod’s in our search for GREAT Chicago deep dish pizza! Their crust is phenomenal and offers universal appeal, perhaps because the cheese is melted and burned onto the crust. Anyone out there prefer the ends of a brisket affectionately known as the “butt?” Well this crust is most definitely for you! This is a fork and knife pizza, so keep your hands to yourselves. The only conceivable downside to this pizza emerged when Dana spontaneously uttered, “I’m not gonna want to eat California pizza now.” If there is a “2024 Chicago Deep Dish Challenge”, the #1 seed and defending champion will be Pequod’s. And that’s…Henry’s Take. ***Editors Note: Reservations are definitely recommended.*** #2023chicagodeepdishchallenge

Best deep dish

By michelleriggs |

This place has wonderful atmosphere, and nice staff. We were told this was the best deep dish in Chicago. Visit started out great but we never recieved 2 out of 3 appetizers. Then after 1 1/2 hrs we did not have our pizza. Several tables received their food even though they came in long after we did. Long story short they told us our pizza was used for a take out order. So they made a new one which took another 30 minutes and finally brought our 2 missing appetizers which came out cold. Pizza was TOP NOTCH but will not be back due to the service!

Good, but not as great as my daughter said it would be

By joelajoela |

Visiting Chicago for the fourth time, I always love to go out for pizza. My daughter chose Pequods as she said it was the best, authentic pizza in town. I humbly disagree. The service was very good despite being very crowded on a Saturday afternoon. As for the pizza, I didn’t love it. The caramelized crust just tasted burnt to me. The sauce was plentiful and very tasty. My favorite deep dish pizza in town is still Lou Malnati's - but what do I know having grown up in New York and only eating regular pizza that you fold in half?

Disappointing trip....never got our pizza. :-(

By Jacque R |

Traveled to Chicago and the only thing my husband wanted to do was try this place. Made a reservation and was seated quickly. Feeling like things were going well, we placed our order. We waited an hour and a half. At that point, our waiter came out and told us it would be at least another 40 minutes. We gave up and left with only some cheesy bread. Disappointing for sure.

No. 1 rankings for pizza and mostaccioli

And I always order a large pizza so I can reheat some slices at a later time, maybe the late movie. One thing more: In my quest for the best mostaccioli in Chicago, it has come to my attention that one survey ranks Pequods mostaccioli as the best in the city. So I tried it with marinara sauce, salad and garlic bread. It reminds me more of Como Inn's version than anything I've had since. And that's quite a compliment.

Undecided.

By Danhoang |

This is not the first time we tried deep dish pizza Chicago style. However this is the first we ate from Pequod’s. We ordered to go and ate it after 10 minutes of driving back to the hotel. Our first impression was it tasted good but not the best. Next time when we’re in town we will try to book a table and see how it tastes immediately from the oven.

Must Visit When in Chicago

By Edward T |

Was in town for a conference and was told I needed to stop by to try their pizza. I was not disappointed as the pizza was delicious and the staff was friendly. Had enough leftover for breakfast and lunch the next day.

Real Deal Deepdish!

By Karyn M |

Truly a neighborhood place and great deep dish experience. Not mushy crust-good selection of toppings. Salads fine if you have room. One of the better pizza joints!

Delicious pizza and great service

By petem501 |

We loved Pequads. The food was beyond delicious, the service was excellent. Our server was Nick from Columbia… what a great example of a great server that truly took his time with us to give us an excellent experience. The hostesses were great too and helped us get a table downstairs since one of us can not walk stairs. The whole experience was awesome and the pizza is out of this world.

Great place, great people, great pizza

By Sara28London |

We had read so much about the different deep dish and stuffed crust and pan pizzas in Chicago it was hard to know where to go! But we will never regret Pequods and only wish I could go back. It’s a little out of town, full of locals, a reservation is key! But the staff and the atmosphere and the pizza is just great, and so highly recommended if you are visiting Chicago. Well worth it - that caramelised crust is perfect!

The perfect deep dish experience

By gulf-to-gulf |

This is a great setting. We ate inside. For my money, this was the perfect deep dish experience. The crust is amazing. The pepperoni and sausage I had on my pizza was perfect and the ratio of sauce and cheese was very nice.

I would recommend 100%

By pk_13425 |

I loved this place! There was 2 of us and we ordered a 10' pan pizza and it was just enough. It was very nice and very busy. I would recommend booking in advance.

Great food and Atmosphere

By Noel P |

Great food and drink with friendly service and great ambience. We had 2 7 inch deep pans and a ten inch. My 7 inch had sausage, anchovies and jalapeños. Fantastic meal. Drink selection good

Pizzas fine but service not so great

By ssk |

Pizza was good - I especially like the sauce and the crusty “burnt” ends. It’s pretty much my favorite deep dish. Don’t love the experience. We ordered a couple small pizzas and one member of our party ordered chicken tenders. When the pizzas arrived, she did not bring the chicken. Finally tracked her down and asked about it. She played it off like she put the order in and said they would be ten more minutes. It was more like 15 minutes. It would have been fine had she been honest and told us she forgot to put it in or that the kitchen forgot. She did not apologize. We usually tip 20-25%. Not this time.

My favorite option over Giordano’s or Lou Malnati’s

By Matt W |

Great option before any game but would suggest making reservations- also like most Deep Dish options - be prepared it is about a 45 min cook time. Love the burnt cheese side-crust

This pizza placed was recommended by our waitress at another pub. She said when she wants deep dish, this is the only place to go. She was right! It was incredible. Crust was super tasty and cheese was caramelized around edges. So so so good!

Walked thirty minutes after calling restaurant for seating. Got to restaurant and it was not busy. Got denied at the door for not having reservation. Would have been nice to know after I already called. Walked thirty minutes back to the subway. Thanks Pequods. Real class establishment. Don’t have to worry about a second try. Nice communication.

Our introduction to Chicago style deep dish pizza

By milespointstravelkom |

After spending about 3 hours at the zoo we were starting to get hungry. We were not about to leave Chicago without trying out the famous “deep dish style Chicago Pizza”. I had researched various restaurants trying to find the best one and had settled on the famous Pequod’s Pizza. We took an Uber to the Claybourne street location. After about a 20 minute wait we got our table and 45 minutes later we received the yummy goodness that is the deep dish pizza.

Visit Pequods Pizza for a great meal.

By joseph c |

We visited Pequod’s Pizza for a Sunday lunch. We were seated at the bar and our bartender/waiter was courteous and friendly. In fact, all the staff were nice as can be and the ambiance was inviting and cozy. We ordered a Caesar salad that we split. It was crisp with fresh cherry tomatoes and some of the best Caesar dressing I’ve tasted in a long time. Our meal was a 12” pan pizza of sausage, cheese, fresh garlic, fresh basil and black olives. This pizza was soft, like focaccia bread but loaded with flavor. The bottom was crisped and the cooked cheese around the rim was a welcome taste treat. The sausage was tasty and the sauce sweet, just as we like it. Make it a date to go there and have a great meal!

This place was highly recommended and now that I tried it I get how it got it’s reputation! The pizza is really good and even though it looks heavy you don’t necessarily feel overly full. We shared a Medium Pizza for two people and had plenty of leftovers

Not a Fan

By Brenda P |

Not at all impressed! Burnt crust not tasty. Not getting the hype on this one. Very doughy, lack of flavor, meat burnt too.

Caramelized is where it's at!

By JSSAmber |

Yeah, it's that good: the slightly burnt cheese on the outside rim is extra salty and crunchy, and it makes a great contrast with the soft middle. This is really a sports bar that specializes in slow-cooked, killer pizza, but during the day the place is filled with people who have time to eat something good. Nothing is fancy: cardboard plates, salad out of a bag, etc., but a good vibe with top-notch pizza.

Good pizza!

By CarlosFAH |

I was recommended this place for a Chicago-style pizza, and it didn't disappoint, as it was amazing. Staff were nice and friendly, they helped me decide within a minute, but the food was painfully slow...

Not all that great

By Love2Travel |

Although this was highly recommended, I found the place quite underwhelming! For our first reservation, after 30 minutes past they couldn't confirm when the table may be ready. Next day, another reservation was honored, but pizza took ~45 minutes to be served. I didnt like the taste - this could be my preference, as I am much used to the New York style pizza. This one was too doughy, even with extra cheese and sauce! Overpriced too. One may like it if you are into that casserole type of pizza ;)

Don’t miss going here!

By Escape01251318810 |

What a great experience! The wait staff was friendly and professional, the deep dish pizza was the best I’ve had in a decade, and quite frankly it’s the only place I’ll go for deep dish pizza in Chicago. They are nice big TVs we could watch football. The beer was excellent as the service I would recommend this place to anyone!

Good Deep Dish… unbearably hot dining room!

By Terry T |

Deep dish pizza excellent! Dining experience was slow and the dining room was EXTREMELY HOT! Wear a swimsuit to stay cool…this has been a long-standing problem that remains unaddressed by the owner according to our server and others we talked to in the restaurant.

The BEST!

By Andy |

Like many people recently, I heard about Pequods by its cameo on the show The Bear. So when I had the rare opportunity to go to Chicago for work, I just had to go. It is the best deep dish pizza I’ve ever had! The staff were incredibly friendly and our waitress helped with recommendations for a first time visitor. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and couldn’t finish the 10” in one sitting, but it was still delicious the next day. Others on our table opted for the 7” and they said it was the perfect amount. Definitely book a table if you can. We ate on a Monday evening thinking it would be a quieter day of the week but it was packed! Can’t recommend enough!

The place to go if you want deep dish

By divenuts |

I have to state up front that personally I'm not a big fan of Chicago deep dish. I prefer crispy tavern style pizza (as I think most real Chicagoans do). However if you have visitors in town who are dying to try "authentic" deep dish, this is the place to take them, it's far superior to the big tourist joints such as Lou Malnati's or Giordano's. Come for the deep dish and enjoy a nice atmosphere with a non touristy crowd in a local neighborhood spot.

Lovely manager and staff

By seaseaseasiders |

Booked the right time at the wrong restaurant. Maree the manager was so helpful, despite the place being rammed found us a table. Victoria our waitress was also an Angel and looked after us all night.

Quite ok

The pizza was not worth the money, would not go back and buy it. The bottom had an aftertaste of yeast. But it was still fun to try a Chicago signature.

Just “eh”

By Mel L |

Pizza is good not great. Service on phone is kinda uppity and not friendly. They didn’t have any tables available for another 2 hrs but the interior is like your typical city pizza place. When I go in to pick up they ignored me and I had to ask if my order was ready after standing there waiting for the hostess to finish doing random things for 1-2 min. So it was overall an “eh”experience.

Iron skillet deep dish!!!

By Robs’reviews |

First time experiencing Chicagos famous “deep dish” and Pequod’s did not disappoint!! The burnt caramelized crust distinguishes Pequods from the rest!! You need to eat it hot tho! And takes about 40-50 minutes to arrive at table side! Service was also very good!

Decent food but horrible service

By Eric R |

Horrible customer service. The host was rude and the waiter was to busy flirting with the table next to us to even take our order.

Meh. Not What It Was Talked Up To Be

By KerryWilliam S |

I know this place is famous and raved about and all, but just one out-of-towner’s personal opinion, it tasted a little like 2 Stouffer’s French Bread freezer pizzas stacked on top of each other. The crust that is so well loved by many, to me was kind of tasteless with a very cheap texture. The sauce and cheese were similarly flavorless. Good sausage, that’s about it. The restaurant itself doesn’t appear to have air conditioning so it is HOT inside. Service was good. That’s the best I can say. It was “fine,” but not anything I’ll miss and I wouldn’t come back. But, I see there are so many die-hard fans of this pizza that all I can say is taste is subjective. It is what it is, and this is just my opinion!

PIZZA!

By Johnny Trekkie |

Somebody Feed Phil, Season 3, Chicago, on Netflix...this looked so good I had to go during my Chicago mens' wifeless weekend. And by the grace of Gawd, they do take reservations weeks in advance! We running late on our reservation time, but I called in advance, and Pequod's thankfully held my reservation. The interior is casual pizzeria, and it smells great! The staff are friendlier than most other eateries, thanks! $9 Fried Zucchini...cut into thin slices, breaded thickly, and deep fried crisp...yum! $40 Pequod's Chicago Pizza is really good! We got the large with pepperoni, meatball, and mushrooms. They put cheese high up along the edges of the pan, giving the outer crust a nice cheesy crisp. The cheese and fragrant red sauce are generous. Its a hot, thick, filling, and magical pizza! The four of us men were full and fatty. Large start at $26, $5 for meat toppings, $4 for veggies.

Not worth the hype

By dacdoglady |

This has been on my husband's list for years, and we made a reservation well in advance of our Chicago visit. Started with the Caesar salad which we enjoyed - lot of cheese! But the pizza was sub-par. The crust is doughy and there wasn't enough cheese. My husband said his sausage was good and he enjoyed the caramelized crust. Our friend also was disappointed in his pizza. Back to Pizzeria Uno - or even better, Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinders!

Pizza bought on Gold Belly and shipped across the country

By David N |

I’m not anywhere near Chicago so to try Pequods pizza I had to order through Gold Belly. Delivery was perfectly on time. It was packaged professionally, still frozen, all very impressive. But delivery is not what I am reviewing here. It’s the product. My definition of wonderful deep dish pizza is lots of great sauce, preferably made with smashed tomatoes, and lots of tasty cheese. What we got was basically a thick seasoned bread. Very little sauce and very little cheese. This could not possibly be the same as the pizza made in Chicago, could it? According to the UPS shipping graphic our pizza came from New Jersey. Very disappointing. Not edible as a meal, maybe as a very expensive appetizer as long as it’s not billed as pizza.

3rd time. No charm.

DON'T GO. DON'T PICK UP. Either, not worth it. RUDE STAFF. HUGE THUMBS DOWN. Unless you have a lot of time to waste and you care zero for service. Too many great places. Especially for stale, sloppy, dull pizza.

Deep dish goodness

By Anne W |

Wonderful deep dish pizza. Garlic and Basil was a nice touch. Mozzarella sticks were fantastic. Loved them with a side of ranch. The soda was icy cold. The crust is seriously an amazing bonus. Crispy and flavorful. Wonderful staff. Will recommend.

Saw this place on diners, drive-in and dives

On a road trip back to Colorado, we decided to try this out and it was amazing. Great service and awesome food.

Excellent pizza, service is strained.

My advice: 1. Book a reservation. Walk-ins are slim. We had a reservation for 8:00, and we still were told our table was not available and they would text us when we could be seated. Grabbed a beer next door, and got the text about 8:25. 2. Look at the menu while waiting to be seated, and order as soon as you are seated. We were Seated at 8:30, and immediately put in our full order (we looked at menu online while waiting to be seated). 3. Order an app if you’re hungry. Salad app arrived in just a few minutes after we ordered. We were warned that the pizza would take an hour from our order, and it did. 4. Order a pitcher of beer, not a glass. Our waitress largely ignored us during that one hour wait, which made get a drink refill/beer a challenge, even when the pizza did arrive. 5. Pizza was excellent. Medium deep dish was 6 slices, and easily fed two of us, with leftovers.

If you like Pizza the Italien style don't go here

By Svenja L |

The online reservation went smoothly but unfortunately nothing after that. The assigned table was covered with BBQ sauce and after several ignored requests to please clean it, we cleaned it ourselves. The appetizers were very mediocre in taste and we were looking forward to the Pizza. The Pizza was a very big disappointment - not only was it burned but it tasted like a greasy dough - neither the tomato sauce nor the cheese had much flavor.

Passable but bland pizza.

By cailydo |

Too much bread, not enough flavor. The caramelized ring around the edge was great, but couldn't save the pizza. Service is good, and if you go at an off time you'll have no problem getting in. With so much great pizza in Chicago, I would never return here.

Most disgusting crust and thick glob of tomato like crust

By KEVIN I |

I ordered this from gold belly because of the reviews,I am extremely disappointed! How in the world could this slop get such a high rating

Busy place with average pizza

By M Richard M |

Our son took us here. Big crowd slow service pizza average at best. Crowd sports fans and nice to be with. Tables small. The local crowd was getting preference visitors treated badly

Go to Pequods

By Tracy G F |

Chicago is full of deep dish pizza places. I've been to most of the touristy ones, but this time while visiting Chicago, I asked a local for a reference. He suggested Pequods. It was DELICIOUS! And not only was the pizza amazing, but the staff is super friendly and attentive. Ditch the tourist places and head to Pequods...but be prepared to wait. Deep dish takes about 45-60 minutes depending on how busy they are, but it's worth it.

Great Pizza

By jordansbulls |

Went here a while ago and even order it on Goldbelly. You must get the one with the Sausage it is much better than any other pizza here.

BEST PIZZA ON EARTH

By chicagospartan |

This is the best hands down. Locals all know it and love it. I hesitate to make this review public because I don't want it to be more crowded! Anytime we are in Chicago we get Pequods. I only wish they would expand and let me open another one in the south!

The Best Deep Dish

By t14174 |

The crust is what sets this deep dish apart from the other excellent pizza joints in Chicago. The chees melted on the outside crust is so buttery and crispy and then their tomatoes are juicy and their sausage tastes homemade. Even the location is cool in an old 2 story red brick building. This was our favorite pizza in Chicago. I can't wait for my next trip to Chicago, and my first stop will be Pequods.

It’s All About the Crust

By Robogator0 |

Love this pizza, and the crust is some of the best out there. Friendly crew made our visit special. Vegan modifications available (by removing cheese), which is a plus for our group.

Best deep dish pizza in Chicago!

By Jack S |

We have been going to the Morton Grove location for a couple of years because the deep dish is the best we have eaten. The service leaves a lot to be desired but it's worth the trade off

Is this truly the best pizza in Chicago?

By Taylor B |

I don't consider myself to be a connoisseur of pizza. But I like it and I know what appeals to me. I had two favorites. But the first moved out of my neighborhood and the other went out of business. I'm not picky. My standard order is large thin crust cheese and sausage with extra sausage. Lately, I've been searching for a new favorite. Pequod's deep dish is rated the No. 1 pizza in Chicago by several surveys. So I decided to see if Pequod's thin crust is up to my expectations. Located at 2207 North Clybourn Avenue, at Webster, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, a 15-minute drive from my home, Pequod's Pizza has been drawing rave reviews from pizza critics for as long as I can remember. So why has it taken us so long to jump on board? If you like lots of dough, this is the place. I don't. To me, thin crust means what it says. I like a chewy dough but I don't want the dough to dominate the pizza. I want just enough cheese, not too gooey, just enough tomato, but not overwhelming, and plenty of zesty Italian sausage. In fact, I always ask for extra sausage. Pequod's deserves its reputation as one of the finest pizza parlors in Chicago. But I would give an edge to my old favorite, Bella Luna, now out of business, and Pizano's.

Good pizza - but a bit overhyped - Great service

By joshmw66 |

I'm giving a top rating for the fast, friendly and super helpful service (after midnight!) but the deep dish pizzas themselves - we got a couple - were just good but nowhere near the "amazing" and "best deep dish pizza in Chicago, you've gotta try it" pizzas that this place has been raved about for. The pizzas were definitely tasty and well made but I've found Lou Malnati's to be better than Pequod's in all around tastiness, deepness of flavors, etc. I'd totally recommend Pequod's, especially if you're looking for a good pizza after hours with friends, but it's not anywhere near the best pizza I've ever had.

I guess I was expecting more

By Roary |

Being in Chicago for the first time, I felt that i had to have a deep dish pizza at least once. Doing some research, Pequod’s seemed to be the place to go. We made reservations for mid week. Traffic was terrible, so we called that we would be late, but they didn’t seem bothered by it. We arrived 30min after our set reservation, and it wasn’t that busy. The place is cavernous, but we’re eventually seated near the back. Our server helped walk us through the menu, and explained that it typically takes 45min to prep a pizza. Fortunately, it wasn’t too busy so it actually only took 15min. We ordered both a deep dish and thin crust. The deep dish was good, with the crispy edges. Personally, i think having so much topping is too much for me, but still enjoyed it. I thought the thin crust wasn’t special at all. I’m glad I got to try it. But didn’t find it particularly unique enough to desire it again

The Worst Experience

By iamstoked22 |

We arrived at 6:59 for a 7:00 dinner reservation and were seated right away. Server took 25 minutes to get to our table. We ordered a pan pizza and a bottle of wine. 15 minutes later we got our wine. So now we’re at 40 minutes. (PS, I have worked as management/ ownership in the restaurant / hotel business for 30 years, so I’m not exaggerating time.) At 8:10, I finally was able to flag down our server who must have had blinders on not to see me wildly waving my arms and gesticulating to try and get his attention. This was at 8:05. So now we’re at 65 minutes. I asked where our simple 10” pizza was and told him we arrived at 7:00. He argued and said he placed the order at 7:30. I tried to explain to him that he only took our order at 7:30 because it took him 30 minutes to get to our table and take our order. At 8:20 we decided we were going to leave, when our pizza magically showed up. I managed one half of a slice of burned pizza before giving up. We tried for about 10 minutes to locate our server to get our check, but could not find him. We finally got up and left our table and walked down to the hostess stand where we explained our plight to a so-called manager who did not really listen to our explanation of a complete train-wreck of an evening after traveling here from North Carolina. He did, however, quickly take our money for which we ate maybe 1/8 of the food we were finally brought. We came to Chicago so looking forward to enjoying this restaurant based on seeing it on TV. Oh my God, this was the worst experience we have had at a restaurant. And to think we drove 11 hours to be so disappointed and then for the manager to not really give a f#ck about that! Wow, I would fire my manager if they did not handle this total cluster better. I get that they totally understand that they will never see us or most tourists again, but hopefully their sad service and food will eventually catch up with them. Our server was the worst I have experienced in 30 years . What a shame.

Delicious deep dish

By Doug W |

When we arrived, I knew we would be in for a treat. It looks like a hole in the wall joint and most of those types of places have great food. We ordered our deep dish with sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. The sausage is some of the best I've ever had on a pizza. If you like carmelized/burnt cheese at the crust, you will not be disappointed. Their pizza ranks with the other big guys' pizza restaurants in the downtown area.
