" Bringing The East Coast Flavors To The West Coast "

By David Miller |

My wife and I met 3 of our friends at Pete's Seafood and Sandwich shop in the North Park area of San Diego today for a fabulous lunch. We were greeted at a table by owner Pete DeCoste. Pete worked in two independently owned and family run seafood restaurants in the Boston Massachusetts area for 30 years. Pete's goal when he moved to San Diego was to bring the taste and quality of New England style seafood and sandwiches to San Diego. Pete flys in from the east coast everyday, all of the fresh fish he uses in the restaurant, because he wants those east coast flavors in San Diego. Pete's Seafood has now been in business for 8 years. Pete's is a small very casual, comfortable, and friendly atmosphere venue, were they serve a wide variety of fish and sandwich dishes. They have lobster rolls, clam chowder, lobster bisque, fish and chips, oysters and chips and more seafood entrees and sandwiches. We started our meal as we shared a basket of deep fried dill pickles and fresh onion rings, which we dipped in Pete's yummy rumalard sauce. The lobster roll sandwich I had was also very tasty, especially with the rumalard sauce. Pete's offers various varieties of wine, beer and soft drinks also. Pete's also has some nice outside seating areas you can enjoy. A very friendly owner and staff, with some very tasty seafood dishes and sandwiches. We will definitely be back to Pete's Seafood and Sandwich again.

Not Your Average Sandwich Shop

By Emily H |

I’m not usually a sandwich eater so when our friend suggested Pete’s I was a little hesitant. Of course the word Seafood helped. Boy was I glad we went! There is a small parking lot in the back and we got lucky and found a spot. The restaurant itself is quaint. We ordered the lobster roll, crab meat roll, and Cuban sandwich. The lobster and crab meat rolls were stuffed with delicate, fresh seafood. Sooo yummy. The Cuban sandwich was made with shredded pork. While not your typical Cuban sandwich it was packed with flavor. The fries and onion rings came with a creamy spicy sauce. Definitely glad we stopped here.

Surprisingly great

By David A |

The restaurant is pretty unassuming, ordering at the counter and putting a number on the table for the food to be delivered. My mother and I had the mango-chipotle grilled shrimp which were delicious and a good portion size. My daughter had the fish and chips which is often mediocre but the New England Cod was flakey, moist and delicious. The manager and staff made us feel very welcome.

Hidden Gem

Awesome lobster rolls, couldn’t finish the massive chips! Great beer, very happy. Staff were excellent.

The BEST East Coast-style sandwiches and seafood in San Diego

By Joe P |

Most reviews will be about the seafood here, which is such a delightful and delicious taste of New England, but for me the real gem here is the Chicken Parm sub. Moving to SD from Boston 4 years ago, there were no decent spots for chicken parm subs that I could find. I didn't realize that was an east coast thing. Well low and behold, I stumbled upon Pete's over a year ago and I have been a returning customer since. Wonderful staff, great menu with great prices, and an absolutely out-of-this-world chicken parm sub. This is one of my favorite spots in San Diego!

Pete’s!!

By Macattack756 |

Pete’s is my go to for casual seafood! The shrimp po boy is awesome!! Fish and chips and the occasional clam fest are the best!! My favorite lunch spot!

North Beach Restaurant….what a gem!

By lindas6fam |

Cute restaurant in the north beach area of San Diego. I had the best fish and chips there. The fish was fresh and tender. My hubby had the lobster roll and said it was very good. The service was great. We will definitely come back next time we’re in SD.

New England Seafood

By Honda N |

Everything you read here is true.. this place has premium quality seafood flown in from the east on a regular basis.. the owner works the restaurant a lot and it speaks volumes.. they are very attentive and ready to make ur meal right each time.. fresh Maine lobster in a roll is the NE "Lobsta" roll known back in New England ... not quite a "Legal Seafood" restaurant experience but excellent as a back east coast fried food experience.. Lobster bisque is excellent as well as the fried fish.. The sandwiches are 'just ok' and not notable in my New England book.. (born and raised back there).. very worth the price and trip if you like fresh fried seafood... Its the only place like it in San Diego, California! Thanks Pete!

Nice place for a quick snack

We really enjoyed our food, stopped here on the way to the airport and were pleasantly surprised. Great lobster roll and combination plates, fast and pleasant service!

Pete , is the best!

By joann p |

My husband and I are visiting from Tucson. Our neighbor here told us about Pete's. I am originally from Massachusetts and love Maine lobsta! Pete greeted us when we walked in and got talking with him and he knows my BFF's husbands family from N Redding MA!!! The lobsta roll was excellent, the Ipswich clams excellent and the scallops, melt in your mouth! We also had the lobsta bisque ...so delicious!!! Thanks Pete for bringing New England to North Park SD!!!!! It was a pleasure to meet you!! With food that is as good as yours , you will have continued success!!

Yum Yum

The food is authentic to New England style seafood. It is delicious and plentiful. Outdoor and indoor seating are available. I return to Pete’s every time I visit San Diego.

"Seafood In The Hood".....

By George Andrus |

I really love supporting local restaurants & venues when they're good, and Pete's Seafood and Sandwiches is fantastic! The fact that it's only blocks from my home makes me really happy. Nothing like having Great Seafood in The Hood! Now this may sound strange, but my favorite item on the menu is actually not seafood at all....it's a chicken sandwich! Not just any chicken sandwich, this is a Chicken BLT. OK, you can call it "Chicken Of The Sea" if you like, but bottomline, it's my favorite chicken sandwich of all time. This is one hearty sandwich too. I have never been able to finish the whole sandwich while sitting in the restaurant. Sure it comes with fries, but the sandwich alone is huge and I always end up taking half of it home which is a real treat for another meal later. I can highly recommend the traditional fish & chips or fish sandwich if you think it's weird to order a chicken sandwich in a seafood restaurant. The great thing about Pete's is that everything I've had on their menu smacks of "Fresh". They make a concentrated effort to prepare all their fried items in fresh oil and this really does make a big difference in the taste. It never tastes greasy, dripping oil with every bite. The portions are very substantial, you won't go away hungry. In fact, like me, you'll most likely end up taking a good portion of your meal home. What's not to like about that. All the seafood appears to be fresh, not frozen. If you order lobster it won't be Pacific Lobster, it will be the real deal...Maine Lobster! Prices are very reasonable considering the portion sizes and the freshness of the menu items. With indoor/outdoor seating, the atmosphere & vibe is very casual & relaxed. Parking around the restaurant can be a pain most of the time because of the many venues & other businesses that surround Pete's. I usually circle the block several times, but it's OK as I'm driven by the fact that eventually I'm going to be enjoying some of the Best Seafood (Chicken) in San Diego. My plan is to try every item on the menu in the next year. It's going to be a fun year!

Freshest Seafood in SD!

By travelfool68 |

The clam strips are my favorite, but I've had everything here and it's mind blowingly fresh! Lobster rolls, full belly Ipswich clam. You can't go wrong!! Pete flya everything in daily. Friendly, great crew!

Mouth Watering Delicious

By yolanda644 |

My cousin Gaby brought us here because she said the food was really good and the owner Pete goes out of his way to make sure everything is fresh and delicious. We ordered a bottle of wine, the lobster roll, lobster bisque, meatball sandwich, cole slaw, and chicken tenders. Oh my gosh! Every dish was absolutely exactly as predicted. Delicious!! The service was friendly and Pete came by and introduced himself as well. We felt so welcomed and comfortable. We definitely will be coming back every time we’re in San Diego.

Excellent food and service!

By Chloe |

Pete's is the absolute best! Everything is amazing. I love the lobster rolls, the kiddos dig the hot dogs and clam chowder and my husband shows up for every clam bake. Authentic east coast faire with the freshest fish available! They do a great taco Tuesday. Nice selection of beer. The friendliest staff. Additionally, Pete is THE soulest guy ever! Gotta check them out if you haven't already!

Lobster Rolls

By MLE0904 |

This is another place that is walk up ordering with table seating. The menu is mainly seafood, the lobster rolls are fantastic filled with sweet lobster. All that was missing was the drawn butter. The Cuban sandwhich was huge and very filling. The fish tacos were delicious. Great value for not a huge price

Fabulous food and friendly service

By Boston-SFGirl |

I had been to this restaurant in the past, and was thrilled to see they are still there! Their lobster roll was wonderful - just what I wanted, and the clam chowder was a perfect starter. I will go here every time I’m in town!

Touch of New England

By Allyson R |

Having spent years living in New England, we both commented that this place "smelled right" when we walked in. We'd seen reviews and really wanted some good seafood while we were in San Diego, so in spite of parking issues, we came and are so pleased we did! There was also construction so the patio was closed, but we were here in the big rain storm, so no problems with that! We got calamari to start and it came out quickly with steaming marinara-- my husband said it was good, but I'm a purist with my calamari so didn't try the sauce. Next came our meals--fried oysters for him, fish and scallops for me, both with slaw and fries. All the seafood was great!! We also really liked the coleslaw. Fries were pretty good, but I was too full to really enjoy them and didn't get to them until the end when they weren't piping hot-- my fault, but wanted to enjoy the seafood while it was hot! They served our meals with tartar sauce which we didn't try since they had malted vinegar on the tables(along with several varieties of hot sauce and Heinz ketchup). Their cocktail sauce was really good. We decided when we come back we'll try their clam chowder. Met another customer while there who was from Massachusetts and now lives in San Diego-- says a lot that he eats at Pete's!! It's the real deal and we'll be back when we get to San Diego again

Best East Coast Seafood on West Coast

By jlgilbert62 |

Pete's is all about good food -- nothing fancy about the place -- but the food is outstanding. Whether you go for the lobster rolls, the Po Boys, the fried clams or anything -- you will not be disappointed. The food is fresh and delicious. Throw in a couple of yummy sides - cole slaw and french fries are perfect compliments to the seafood -- and some good beer... it is a perfect meal!

Friendly Service, Generous Portions

By LarsieB |

The service at Pete's Seafood and Sandwich was friendly, helpful and efficient. The food portions and wine servings were generous and the food itself was okay, probably a little more fried that we would have preferred (we like it when the coating is more golden and little less browned). We enjoyed dining here for a very casual meal, having a glass wine and spending time with our family.

Searching for Maine lobster in California.............

By RRR |

Very casual place with outdoor seating as well as indoor. I had the lobster roll which did not come with fries or slaw......I would have liked some slaw. The meat was all claw meat, but it was not as tasteful since it had been frozen. However, it did come on a toasted hot dog roll a la New England. My companions had Ipswich clams......awesome and very good. Another had bay scallops.....very good also. Their dinners came with fries and slaw. Local beers are a good addition. Chowdah was good but not the best. Yes, try it if you are missing East Coast seafood......haddock was on the menu tonight.....I'd like to have tried that!

Lobster Rolls or Fish and Chips

By MPearson |

Excellent Lobster Rolls, Haddock and Chips or even a salad covered with grilled shrimp. A wonderful surprise in the midst of the neighborhood. Seating is tight, so plan on take out during any lock down.

Scraps on a plate

By 559MoM |

I’m not sure how this place is rated so high?! I ordered online for pick up and the photos of the food really had us. I got to the place just before my food was ready only to drive around in circles 10 minutes because parking is non existent. I got the alert and grabbed the food. While sitting in front of Pete’s I opened the bag to make sure all was well and realized not only was the food just nearly warm our fish and chips was insanely minuscule. It was 1 1/2 pieces of a piece of dish and little flakes on top of fries that looked like the last of some frozen French fry bag. It literally looked like scraps from someone’s plate. The fish/shrimp and chips combo was nearly as bad but put together enough that it wasn’t weird to eat it. Clam chowder was actually potato soup with only 1 piece of clam. My cousin also ordered and received maybe 2 pieces of clam. It was $60 (and a 20 minute drive out of my way) for these items and hot wings. Before leaving I did speak to an employee who explained the fish is weighed before cooking and was positive it was the appropriate ounces. Then mentioned the fish is delicate and flaky... white noise, she never offered to fix it. When I showed her the plate she asked if I dropped it, I had not. Then she showed me a fish sandwich that I insisted she not take out someone’s dinner because of the whole Covid thing and she did anyway. Opened the box and there were whole fish pieces in the sandwich which she closed up and offered a refund of the one fish and chips plate. I even pointed out the fish and chips photo on their wall and she was still oblivious while she continued with the various excuses. She then said she’d call the owner but at this point the already cold food is now inedible so I took my box of scraps and left. This is my first visit to the area and relied on reviews only to be drastically disappointed. I also have yet to receive any refund. This place should open a bar and serve their crappy food to drunk people who don’t care what they eat. It’s nowhere near the water so it’s not like you’re even getting coastal ambiance.

Wonderful!

We stumbled upon this restaurant and will definitely be back! Battered items were excellent. Hand cut fries and homemade onion rings!

Yum

Eating the food from this restaurant is like eating in New England...Customer service is friendly. The location is nice.

Maine Lobster and Fried Clams

By Snorris57 |

Love to visit Maine and feast on lobster and long neck clams. Pete's is the closest thing to Maine dining and only a short drive for us. We all agreed with needed fried clams and lobster. The fried clams are not like anything you get here, they are big, meaty and delicious. Enjoyed the lobster rolls and salad. Very fresh. They do a great job.

Great big delicious sandwich!

By Jany S |

If you are Hungary and want a fresh tasty meal gotta go here. I picked because of the high reviews and boy they did not lie. We had calamari and fish and chips and chicken sandwich and the Italian! All were the best

A taste of home

Well visiting my daughter who is stationed in San Diego we visited Pete’s. Originally I’m from New England. And the food and the way it was cooked it was a taste of my childhood. Everything was cooked quickly to your liking it was served hot it was fresh. The staff was accommodating. It was a positive experience completely! I highly recommend.b

Great Haddock

By Nancy C |

We are from the East Coast and love haddock. We learned that Pete's Seafood and Sandwich shop had haddock on the weekends. We drove down today and it was open. The haddock was FABULOUS!!! We will be regular customers, now!!!

Great full bodied fried clams

By Thomas O |

I would't let the decor nor the size of this establishment turn you off. I ordered the full body fried clams, I am from New England. Hard to find this out west. It was every bit as good as back home, and a fair quantity was served too. I was a little underwhelmed by the clam chowder, feeling that it just did not have a very good clam taste to it. We came at a busy time, and were lucky to find a two person table to sit at, with the food delivered very quickly for all the people milling about. I drove down a hour and a half to do something else in the area, but if I get the urge for more fired clams I would do it again.

One of the best seafood places I’ve ever eaten!

By Beverly |

I rate my experience a 5 out of 5! The warm lobster roll is amazing. It’s juicy, plentiful, and delicious. The fried oysters are delicious as well. Absolutely no complaint. The staff is attentive and very friendly.

Pete's Seafood and Sandwiches - by FAR the BEST!

By Gordon Gage |

We have traveled in excess of 400 miles each way (Scottsdale, AZ to San Diego, CA) on numerous occasions to eat at Pete's (we even bring our dog Fenway along for the ride - Pete gives him his own bowl of cool water - check out Pete's FB page for the photo!). As fellow Native New Englanders, we LOVE how Pete brings AUTHENTIC and FRESH northeastern Atlantic seafood to us here in the Southwest. Our favorites are the Whole-Belly Fried Clams, the Steamer Clams, and the Fish N' Chips - oh, and also the fresh-made coleslaw and tartar sauce! Linda & Gordon Gage, Scottsdale, AZ

Best clams in San Diego!

By Linda F |

We're from the Boston area, and we travel from Chula Vista for the food here. I love the lobster roll and the onion rings. Park in back

Pete's

Best sandwiches and seafood in North Park! Pete is a true publican. His warmth and good spirit translates to his great food! Thanks Pete and your staff for making each meal memorable!

Lobster Roll & Po Boy Shrimp Feast!

By bigrockr |

Cold tons of lobster on a roll with little sauce and very filling and large delicious grilled shrimp! Also had lobster bisque which is served on Mondays and it was awesome as well!

Absolutely delicious!

By Ronnie |

Friendly service, fair prices and everything we had was absolutely delicious. I can not recommend this place enough. Not to be missed.

Large portions

By Rose702 |

Cute little spot with an outdoor patio. Portions were very large. I had the chicken parm and got 3 meals out of it. Good service.

Awesome!!!!!

By Laurie |

Absolutely love Pete's!!! I am from new England and was leery at first when he said New England seafood. Man was I pleasantly surprised!!! Its about an hour drive for me but we go down there at least once a month!! Lobster roll to die for and fried clams are out of this world!!

What are you waiting for?

By 97music97 |

This place is great. Great food, great price and great service. Don't wait for them to jack their prices because you will regret it.

Never disappoints!

By Louise HW |

I have been to Pete's Seafood and Sandwich a number of times now and every time I've come away very satisfied. The food is great, portions generous and the staff and service are friendly and attentive. I love the seafood but the other sandwiches are excellent too (my fave non-seafood option is the Chicken Cutlet BLT). They also have Taco Tuesday - try the lobster taco! Super friendly staff and Pete is a true professional.

We saw the reviews. Went for dinner. Had the lobster roll. I’ve had better. French fries were poor. Probably not going back. Over priced for the quality.

Best Lobster roll and Fried Clams

By Epicray |

Pete's brings me back to Maine, with the best lobster roll on the west coast, all meat, not much mayo, and on a real top sliced Hotdog bun. The fried clams are GREAT, he will even cater. love this place for a taste of east coast with out the flight.

Don’t miss out! Excellent service and great food!

By Katherine P |

This has been on my list for awhile and finally made it. Obviously couldn’t come here without ordering the lobster roll. They are very generous with their portions so overflowing with lobster meat, dressed lightly with mayo which was perfect for me as it doesn’t hide the lobster. Perfectly toasted and just enough butter. It’s making me hungry as I write this review it was so damn good. We also ordered the clam strips to share and these got devoured since they were so fresh and perfectly cooked. We were overloaded with French fries so probably next time just order the lobster rolls without the fries and coleslaw and go all in again on the clam strips. The service was excellent, they checked on our table multiple times and we were sitting outside. Parking is not the easiest as you need to find street parking but well worth the hassle just drive around a few times. Definitely coming back and staying on my list of places to eat when in SD.

Great spot for lunch

By Valerie |

Saw the reviews and made it a point to stop at Pete’s for lunch after visiting the museums. I chose the grilled shrimp po boy which was delicious and filled with a generous portion of grilled shrimp. My husband chose the lobster roll which was good, but he’s had better. Children’s servings seemed larger than the adult’s entrees and were tasty. Our boys loved the Fish and Chips meal. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. If you’re in the area, it’s a great place for lunch!

Hidden gem

By jparrish20 |

I’ve lived next to this place a while and finally tried it for the first time a few months ago. I’ve come a bunch since. Great food (both seafood and other), good prices on food and drinks, and good people working. Definitely worth adding to the rotation!

Great seafood and more

By Discover598716 |

This is our go to place for seafood, tacos, beer and more. The food is always fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is casual and fun. It's popular with residents of the neighborhood. There are daily specials, like Lobster Bisque on Mondays and tacos on Tuesdays. Pete's carnitas are tastier than some of the Mexican places in North Park.

Awesome find in North Park!

By FreqTravfromVA |

The food, the service and the atmosphere at Pete’s are all top-notch. I will definitely be back the next time we are in the area!!

THE best dang sandwich I'd ever had!

By Mick L |

I am saddened when I realize that due to death or a closed business, I'll never have such wonderful food gracing my tastebuds ever again. Fast forward to today-- I went to Pete's Seafood restaurant and had the best Lobster bisque and Chicken Parmesan sandwich in my entire life (I'm 57). The restaurant is in an area called North Park, San Diego and although easy to get to, the parking is very limited. A tiny driveway in the back takes you to the parking area and then you have to walk to the front to gain access. The restaurant was shining and clean and with vibrant photos of all the food on offer. My friend Rob suggested the Chicken Parmesan, so I ordered that and a small cup of Lobster bisque. The soup had generous chunks of lobster and reined king of the ones I had before-- easily. It was divine. Just before I could finish, Pete himself brought out our hulking baskets of HOT and juicy sandwiches that seemed a full foot high! It was packed with succulent fried chicken and smothered with parmesan cheese with a delightful tomato sauce. The bread seemed like it was baked just today and was gently toasted with some kind of garlic butter on the inside. I can't normally finish something this huge, but I didn't want leftovers and certainly didn't want to throw away food so great it could be considered a work of art. The local staff were super-friendly and a firm handshake by Pete out the door left me with a wonderful impression. I've got to tell the world about this amazing place! You won't be sorry-- this will fill you full of food and happiness.

Wicked Good Seafood

By djphaneuf |

We always enjoy this place when I need a fix of New England Seafood and usually go for the lobster roll. Have had Ipswich clams and scallops here too. I really like the thin cut onion rings. Very basic decor and a little loud inside. Service was quick and never any complaints.

OMFG!

By Damocoleman99 |

Wow, I came here as a referral from the bluefoot bar as I was going to walk 20 mins to a food truck and I am so glad I took their advice. I ordered the fried shrimp po boy and fries. So fresh and tasted amazing! Beer nice and cold so I definitely need to come back!

Pure Lobster roll

By Ali29_90 |

We were very happy with this lunch. Quick order, you sit at the table with the number and after a short time arrives what ordered. Very nice and friendly waiters, informal atmosphere. The lobster roll is the best ever tried. No frills, but just a soft sandwich full of fresh lobster. Good chips. High price but the portion justifies it.

First time visitor but will be back ,many times

By anniedutch13 |

I have lived in San Diego 40 years and never knew about this place until it was recommended last night by a customer of mine. I called and ordered to go but spent awhile looking for parking not realizing there was parking behind the restaurant so got there fifteen minutes after the food was ready. They didn't want to give me food that had been sitting around so they remade the entire to go order in 10 minutes. I am picky about cole slaw and it was one of the best I have had and the scallops were huge and delicious and my husband said the best fish he had had. Very clean and cute restaurant. Now I know where to park. It is between Jack and the Box down the alley and their restaurant.

Hungry for Maine Lobster?

By Linda M |

Our friends from New England were pining for lobster and discovered this eatery that flies in fresh Atlantic seafood multiple times a week. They thought they had gone to heaven when they ordered the lobster roll. We felt the same when took our first first bite of a delicious toasted bun crammed full of the best lobster we have ever eaten. In the days since, we have tried a wonderful crab roll and great chowder but we all agree the lobster roll is our favorite dish. The onion rings are lightly breaded and crunchy. Mmmm! I plan to order a scallop dish next time.

Great Lobster Roll

By Paul S |

After a friendly greeting and review of the menu, we ordered a cup of chowder, chicken Parmesan sandwich and a lobster roll. Chicken Parmesan was nearly a foot long sandwich. The lobster roll had large fresh chilled chunks of lobster – delicious. Enjoyed the New England clam chowder. There are two inside dining areas with about 30 seats and several exterior tables.

Great food.

By cstlstrm112018 |

This is the 5th time we have eaten here. We had the lobster rolls, fantastic, this time. We have also had the clams, fish and chips and the sides. Everything was cooked to perfection. Being from Maine, this has been the closest to home as I have had. Great place, good food and Pete is there most of the time, wonderful person

We ate dinner here. The shrimp and oysters are really good! The staff were very friendly. Overall, a great experience.

East Meets West some of the best seafood around

By Mike_W_Stock |

A good friend took me to Pete's today for lunch it was amazing I had the clam bellies and oysters and onion rings and it was delicious my friend had a shrimp po-boy and I didn't get a bite of it but it looked really delicious. We had a chance to stop and talk to Pete himself he is quite the guy he is from Boston he sources a lot of his things from Back East including the flour that he dredges the oysters and clams and shrimp in. This is a go to place in San Diego there are a lot of seafood places but this one is a winner

New England Flavor

By Dawnrosemary |

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch on the curbside patio. We both are from Massachusetts and we’re excited to learn this food was from there. Maine Lobsters and Ipswich Whole Belly Clams….you cannot go wrong with that combo!! We will be taking the rest of the family real soon.

Fantastic fish

By Ramona D |

We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. Parking is a little tight, but it was good to take a little walk after we stuffed ourselves. Three of us got the scallop and fish platter, the shrimp and fish platter, and the crab cakes. The fish special was haddock, which we upgraded to, otherwise it’s cod which I’m sure would have been equally fantastic. The breading was great. The haddock was tender and the shrimp and scallops were delicious. The crab cakes were huge and had just a little bite to them. The tartar, cocktail, and remoulade sauces were all good. All the platters come with coleslaw (yummy, creamy) and fries that were so good they didn’t need catsup. Or you could switch the fries for creamy pasta salad which was equally tasty. Beverages are canned selections out of a cooler, or you can get cups of water. Pete, the owner is a Boston area transplant, so we talked with him about our second favorite place to visit. We can’t wait to go back and try the lobster roll!

A San Diego Must

By catchyginger |

Very casual pub with counter service. Friendly waitstaff. Order your food and grab a table. We sat outside so our dog could join us. Clam chowder is tops. I could have eaten two bowls. The shrimp po boy was great. Loaded with shrimps. Nice flavor. Next time, I want the lobster roll.

At Last !

By CoronadoCarol |

A wonderful lobster roll in the San Diego area ! We have tried so many places since Bite of Boston closed, and have always been disappointed. Well worth the $19 price. The other menu items sound great too; I suspect we will soon be driving from Coronado and back to try Pete's fish and chips and fried clams. The owner, Pete, is great.

Very fresh and tasty seafood

By Savannah2010 |

While visiting San Diego we decided to try Pete’s as it is recommended on trip advisor. It is exactly as advertised. Good, fresh food in a unassuming setting. We had calamari app, shrimp po boy, and chowder. All were good. An added benefit was we got to explore North Park neighborhood which seems to be up and coming. We want to return to try a few more restaurants in this area.

Wonderful seafood!

By Julia S |

Delicious clam strips, great oyster poorboy, & HUGE portions! They are great at regular fish & chips & everything i have tried is great!

great find!!

By Pascal D |

This is the best place to get fish and chips this side of Boston. Pete gets fresh fish three times per week and you can taste the difference. Chips, coleslaw on the side and a glass of beer complete the meal. Park in the back off the street (posted).

Great restaurant not too far drive from the San Diego Zoo

By Lejaceman |

My wife and I decided to come here after our long day visiting the San Diego Zoo. We were so tired from walking a lot (actually way too much), it was a hot day and we were extremely hunger and thirsty. We did have food, drinks, iced coffee and really didn't want to go to a fancy smancy restaurant. Besides we were dressed casually and probably had the scent of a beast like the zoo. Pete's Seafood Sandwiches was the perfect choice. Their food was delicious and we even brought some takeout to bring back to our hotel to graze much later. We had lobster rolls (the chilled one I preferred), Ipswich fried clams platter with coke slaw & fries, fried scallops platter also with coke slaw & fries. Personally I was sick if French fries cause we had too much of fries with our bacon cheeseburgers at the zoo. They had lots of drinks but we chose the non alcoholic ones to quench our beastly thirst. They had plenty of ice cold water for you to self serve. Their food was well prepared, ample portions and tasted so mighty fine. Prices were fair and parking was just street parking (good luck with that). Overall a perfect place to unwind after a day at the zoo to chow down on some seafood reminiscing our East Coast origins. For California getting some East Coast lobster rolls and fried seafood platters all surreal. They said their chowder & lobster bisque was good but we were just too hot to get soup. Happy Eating and I shall return back here the next time we go to the San Diego Zoo.

Have been wanting to get to Pete’s for some time and finally made it. So glad we did. Great seafood and service. I had the fantastic lobster roll and my wife had fish and chips. Equally delicious. Can’t wait to return.

Delicious

Not fancy but delicious. Friendly, unpretentious atmosphere—my new favorite seafood place in San Diego.

If you like East Coast seafood and sandwiches you have to come here

Best fish and chips, clams, scallops, shrimp.... The sandwiches are enormous, get the chicken parm, eggplant as well. Service is A+ and Pete the owner is a great guy

Excellent lobster rolls and service

Great food and great service. Not only is the clam chowder and lobster rolls delicious, the coleslaw is also really good. We had kids and they ate the kids fish and chips and they were also delicious and they liked them a lot. There are two kinds of lobster rolls, chilled and warm. Try both, share it and you won’t be able to decide which one is better. The service is top notch, always smiling and very considerate. They’ll help you whenever they can.

A pleasant dining experience....

The place is no frills but the food is very good--they did a combination of their fresh cod fried and the grilled mango shrimp for me as I wanted to try both. Good fries and nice enough slaw accompanied. I also ordered a "side salad" that was more than enough and larger than most "dinner salads" w/ an okay vinaigrette. All in all the food was very good, well-prepared, fresh, and enjoyable just not quite great. I sat at the bar and service was very pleasant and both bartenders went out of their way to make me feel welcome and keep me engaged which was nice since I was alone.

A pleasant surprise in North Park

The wild Mexican white shrimp in the shrimp and chips was one of the best things we ate all week in San Diego. The clams and chips were very good also, but the shrimp just stood out. Also had a very good local beer on tap (don't remember the name), which was pretty much the case all week at similar places. This little place just might be the best of two worlds: a New England fresh seafood joint with a SoCal twist along with authentic East Coast style sandwiches. What's not to like?
