Omellettes

By inequity |

My omelette has salty mozzarella cheese, tomatoes that tasted canned and overall this Omelette was inedible. Paired with mushy butternut squash. I think there were tasteless potatoes also but hard to tell Coffee great. Service was good . my husband had the chef's omelette. That was good. I would be careful here and go for the tried and true eggs and toast.

Tasty offerings and great service!

By onemoretiime |

We happened upon this place at the start of their happy hour. The dishes on-offer were the regular-sized portions of items from the regular menu. Our salads were fresh and tasty and the Wild Salmon fillet was both surprisingly generous and perfectly cooked. I ordered the French Onion Mac and Cheese. Delightfully subtle flavors led me to believe that I'd never tasted it's equal, despite being a bit of a Mac and Cheese aficionado. The wines were local and more than satisfactory. And the deserts......everything that we'd hope for from an authentic patisserie. ( We recommend the dessert flight!) We were more than a little surprised to learn that there are several Petite Provence in the city. Not sure if they are as fine as the one on Alberta Street, but it is a chance we'd be willing to take if we were in a different part of town. With thanks to all who served ( i.e. the kitchen staff and the pleasant bar-keep, who also served our meals). Five stars.

Fantastic food, atmosphere!

By Terri L |

We stopped in for lunch and will definitely be back. The smell of fresh-baked pastries hits you right when you walk in the door - you'll want at least one of everything! The crepes are amazing and Provence burger was out of this world with caramelized onions and Brie. I'm hungry again just thinking about it!

A beautiful setting for a sweet and a warm drink!

By OregonExplorers4 |

On a cold, wet day, we discovered this eatery on Alberta St. in NE Portland. The shop front has such beautiful curb appeal. As we walked by, we looked through the windows--so many patrons were sitting inside, smiling and chatting. We decided to go in, and join them. Inside it is warm and inviting. The interior is in colors of black and golds. Just lovely. We were quickly seated, and looked over their menu. We chose "sweets" and coffee. It was a morning that was "delicious and warm." Perfect for a cold, late-morning get together with friends. Our service was first rate, efficient and very friendly. The food was really delicious. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience. We will be back! It has been years since we were in Paris, but this lovely eatery would fit in perfectly there. Brought back wonderful memories for us. Thank you~

dined indoors since pandemic began

By Teresa M |

masked up, we wanted to try dining indoors at petite provence ne alberta, and did so yesterday for lunch....it was busy outdoors and indoors...we sat at the bar since that was the only seating left, and could do so immediately when we arrived....we shared a flight of mimosas, and each had the wild salmon salade without dressing....it was odd taking out masks off, and it will take some time to acclimate, as we live with covid in the future....many were masked up, which is nice for older folks and those with immunological concerns...the bartender was friendly and efficient....she was funny and quick with everything, making the drinks for the whole restaurant....the food/drinks were excellent as always....one staffperson came up and wanted to know why we didn't want salad dressing, and we sia it was so flavorful without it...pesto, lentils, and more give it a fabulous flavor...he then mentioned how the wild salmon was caught up at white river...loved that detail, and have cross country skiied therrere back in the 1980's....be sure to tip big during the pandemic...thx so much

One of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten.

By Simon B |

We were staying in this quarter of Portland and were recommended Petite Provence for breakfast. We were not disappointed! The corned beef hash was absolutely outstanding and the more traditional breakfast items were well prepared and generous. Service was friendly and quite quick given the place was full. There is also a bakery on the premises, so if you can't stay you can pop in for croissants and the like, to take away. Definitely worth a visit.

Kinda like Paris: Prices = sticker shock!

By spryry2020 |

It’s refreshing to have a local joint that tries its best at authenticity for foreign cuisine/ambience. Petite Provence does offer that “little taste of Paris,” issues included! As someone who is fond of Paris, let me say that this place offers tight spaces typical of the French experience. Here you’ll basically be elbow to elbow & bumping into tables and chairs with your hips. Furthermore, it’s as if you really ARE paying with the Euro, cause at these prices it’s like you’re taking into consideration the conversion rate. Desserts hover around +/- $10 per piece, so pick wisely unless you don’t mind paying for a few bites of heaven at a price of two adult meals! But overall, quality and care is all here - let this cute place be your special treat!

Ideal for good food and service

By SanDiego_MK |

While walking around this neighborhood in Portland we were feeling a bit hungry and spotted this place, which we believe we had visited before. In any case, we were delighted with the service, décor, and food. We had the Citron Paradise, Kobe Beef Sliders, Calamari. And Trio Chocolate for dessert. All were excellent.

fun and many food options/drinks

By Teresa M |

we returned for lunch here last sunday, as the outdoor seating was a short wait....masked up and physically distanced, we shared the mimosa flight, and we each had the nw salmon salade....the drinks/food was excellent...we've ordered to go, but it has been 9 months since we sat down and ate.....it was so relaxing, and the staff is friendly and quick...be sure to tip big during the pandemic....thx so much....

Sac mixte

By CulturedBacillis |

Feast for the eyes - but not always for the stomach. Salmon hash was done well, despite being a tad salty. Viennoiserie was disappointing - looked good but mine was served nuked - soggy - terribly disappointing. If stale, don't serve!

A great start to your day!

By Sunnyhillfarm |

The four of us arrived at 8 a.m.on a Saturday and got a table right away. Guests poured in afterward and place was filled up by the time we left. Highlights were the fine service, terrific menu and delicious food. One of us had the corn beef hash with lots of corned beef flavored with a white sauce - wonderful! Collettes' Omelet and the Baked Egg were also big favorites. Great service in spite of full house....

A delightful find

By 20Ian |

My companion and I were in hurry to have dinner during our visit to Portland and stopped into the Petite Provence in the hope of having a quick meal. The waitress was very accommodating and our drinks and food were served very promptly. The food and wine were excellent. My companion had the the Bahamian Chicken and I, the Mussels Mariniere as an entree--both enjoyable. The mussels were some of the best I have had. We paid and left in time for our next appointment very satisfied. Thanks Petite Provence.

french ...best food

Cute, cozy, and delicious

By bridget |

Petite Provence is one of my favorite food places in Portland. Whenever people ask me where to go when visiting, PP is always on the list. I'm a sucker for dessert and theirs is all to die for. I also recall having a delicious soup here once. The beet salad is exquisite.

A great idea in need of a little refinement

By Michael K |

This is ostensibly a bakery that serves dinner - and a very good dinner at that. And instead of the usual mammoth portions, there are "petit plât" which provide the option both to try lots of different things and not leave groaning from over-eating. My butternut squash soup was delicious and welcoming on a cold night, a "petit" steak cooked to perfection and very good salads. And a generous wine list. So what could possibly be better? Well, sitting by the roll-up door proved a child option and I really don't need to be asked if I am "still working on" this - I work at my office, I enjoy a meal. Moreover, does every plate have to be cleared the second one finishes? It just ends up as interruptions. So, great idea, good value and really good food on Alberta.

DELISH!

By Darci A |

I have been to Petite Provence quite a few times over the years, sometimes just popping in for a quick croissant or pastry, have gone for breakfast a few times and it's always good, but we went for dessert about a month ago and loved it. I took 3 girlfriends that had never been and they fell in love! We had hot tea and dessert, so so good. My only complaint is that there isn't more gluten free/dairy free options on hand. I know they are a French bakery so they are trying to be authentic (I just went with it and dealt with the consequences later) but also being in Portland, and being located on Alberta......adding a few different options for people with food allergies/intolerances will only enhance their menu. Overall though, we had a great time, and everything was so good.

Birthday Surprise

By Alberto V |

Sometimes the weather can put a kink in anyone's plans to have fun in this eclectic city that is Portland. However just like any city there are always gems that can make it a pleasant experience. Petite Provence is one of those gems. On top of the fact that the food was delicious the service was above par. Benny was professional and served us in a timely manner. Once I let him know that it was my girlfriend's birthday he surprised her with a tart which made the experience even more memorable. Would definitely recommend this place if you are passing by or staying in Portland.

great food/outdoor seating

By Teresa M |

we returned to dinner masked up and sat outdoors with a friend....i had an oj mimosa, my partner had the french rivera, a blue drink that looked refreshing, and our friend had a glass of white wine...i had the petite hazelnut sockeye salmon, so did she, plus the roasted beet salad...our friend had the monte christo...all the food is excellent...the outdoors is nice and shady for hot evenings....the staff is real nice and friendly...be sure to tip big during the pandemic...thx so much!

Lovely

By jlevy49 |

The quality of food is excellent and worth a wait if there is one. I have been back more than once. A reasonable number of choices for breakfast or lunch.

fun and vibrant

By Teresa M |

we come here about twice a yr or so, and did so yesterday for brunch....we sat outside under a heater....a nice woman gave us water and turned the heater on....next, adam, the staff person was great....we ordered a flight of mimosas, blackberry, blood orange, peach, and raspberry....next, i had the tuna melt with salad, and my partner had the salmon salad, that came with bread....adam was very quick even though it was real busy, and he was very charming.....the drinks/food were excellent as always...thx so much....

I hate to disagree, but...

By bacongougere |

...Petite Provence was a major disappointment. We’d come here a couple of years ago, never came back, and now we know why. Despite all the glowing reviews, our experience was merely average. No wait to be seated, but as others have noted, a couple will get short-shrift on a table. We were seated right by the restroom, and only elbow-bumping-distance from the service sidebar. Extensive menu with yummy-sounding food. The hubby ordered the Benedict Meurette. Red wine, bacon, onions...those were the only things that gave it flavor, in his opinion. The croissant is just not the correct vehicle for all the soggy elements of a Benedict. Now, his bad for ordering the potatoes and squash, but what self-respecting restaurant in P-town (king of the it-comes-from-around-here-and-we-eat-seasonally towns) serves winter squash in JUNE??!! And over cooked, gushy, flavorless squash at that. Ick. I ordered one of my favorites, the Monte Cristo sandwich, which the menu claims “cures for 24 hours to maintain structural integrity” (or words to that effect) and adds “no substitutions, please.” OK. Sure. I had a green salad with the sandwich, and seriously, the salad (if the not quite ripe tomatoes had been left off) was pretty darn good. Excellent, garlicky vinaigrette. But the MC? Ummmm......I’m a little bit of a Monte Cristo snob, not too bad because I’ll even tolerate mediocre ones, but this one? It was...weird. Super light, delicious batter and not too sweet. Pretty good strawberry jam served with it, and the ubiquitous little cup of maple syrup. But the sandwich? Yeah, no thanks. Bread was just a touch too thick, meats were good, cheeses with kind of strange but palatable, but what really put me over the edge into YUCK territory were the (completely unripe and unnecessary) tomatoes on the turkey side of the sandwich which made it watery and the bizarre addition of pineapple to the ham side which made it plain ol’ weird. The whole experience I’d rate as OK, and the adjective we are using to describe this is “disappointing.” As for Monte Cristo sandwiches? You want a really delicious one? Milo’s on NE Broadway. And order a side of their amazing hollandaise sauce.

Not bad, but nothing special

By worldoyster31 |

We walked past the restaurant a few days earlier so decided to go for weekend brunch, The restaurant was really busy, but we were able to get seated straight away. Our server was nice, friendly, but overworked with a lot of tables. Unfortunately, the food was hit and miss. The croissant, without a doubt, was one of the best I've had in the US. As for the main course, half of it was cold. The potatoes and squash, not even lukewarm. Yet the risotto cakes were perfect, full of great flavour. Those I really enjoyed! I think theres a chance we were unlucky, because the pastries looked amazing! I would have loved to try some, but because we were let down during the breakfast itself we decided not to.

Amazing

By Rebecca J |

Fabulous breakfast options and bloody Mary and mimosa flights. Very reasonable with wonderful outside seating. Great service. Loved this place

Just Adding to the 5 Star Chorus

By polaris22 |

Three of us had a business lunch, which actually meant two breakfast and a soup 'n salad. Simply lovely. The wild salmon hash, croissants, strawberry spongecake parfaits, risotto cake & eggs, and coffee were either deeply satisfying or unique or both. This was our first time but we intend to go back next time we're in Portland. (Division St restaurant)

luscious french food

By Teresa M |

we came back with friends for dinner..i had a session, and my partner had a mojito....we shared the apple and fennel salad, seared tuna, and scallops...our friends had drinks and cordon bleu chicken....they all did the dessert flights.....the food was superb, and the staff great as always..thx

Great food at a good value

By Yesheyozhik |

Fun place with great coffee and amazing pastries. Every meal is flavorful, creative and large portions. We shared meals. Not to be missed.

Nice visit but very busy!

By imqz |

Went with friends and family. Small tables and very crowded. Small chairs. The food was delicious and did not take as long as feared it would with the crowd. The bakery items looked wonderful but the line was far too long to get any. :(

Delicious bakery and "real" food too

By MarkWing |

Take advantage of either the bakery or the full menu—or both. We needed a late lunch while exploring Alberta Street and had a couple of appetizers that were just right. Nice menu and bakery selections.

Lunch before a flight

By JBentraveler |

Having had breakfast at La Provence, we decided to grab a bite before heading on the plane. We both selected the sockeye salmon and lentil salad. The salmon was hot huge, but a fair portion for the money. The salad was fresh and the lentils added to the taste. A very good and healthy salad was exactly what was needed. The chain of petite and la Provence does a great job and we will be back next time we are in Portland.

Sometimes not knowing about a place results in finding a treasure

By Camino_Cap |

My friend and I were both strangers to the area, and started our evening in another place that was too crowded to seat us. Walking down Alberta, we happened upon this gem. It looked warm and inviting, so we took a chance - and what a great find! The service was incredibly friendly and even funny. We loved our choice of wine: Willamette Vineyards Pinot noir, which the restaurant bar keeps on tap! He really enjoyed the French onion soup. I savored a wonderful roasted beet salad. And we split the scrumptious Parmesan truffle fries. The food was exceptional. As I said, the service was exemplary. We will be telling all of our friends about this jewel of a bistro.

Favorite restaurant in Portland

By Scott W |

Petite Provence is our go to place. Fantastic atmosphere with exceptional food and service. Best croissants around, and always sure to take a loaf of sourdough to go.

Brunch - WOW!

By Exoson |

I don't get into city's enough. What a fine brunch/breakfast here. I had a great omelet and my wife and daughter split eggs Benedict.

Reminded Me Of France

By Whitney F |

This is the cutest little restaurant. The whole thing reminded me of our trip to France. The chocolate croissants are to die for! I had the warm berry crepes and my husband had a salmon hash and both were delicious.

True Parisian Experience

By macabaleiro |

My husband and I love French food and delight in finding a great croissant so we initially went to the Portland location on Division St to try one of their croissants for breakfast. After looking at the variety of their selections; pear, pain au chocolat, almond chocolate, etc., we decided we would purchase some to have the next day and order from their menu today. Boy, am I glad we did! I had the baked eggs with potatoes, ham, mushrooms, gruyere cheese and my husband had the risotto cakes topped with poached eggs. Both were delicious! Their desserts looked mouth watering delicious and if we weren’t just traveling through Portland for the day, we would be back to try those too! In addition, the service was outstanding and my husband noted that they had done a really good job of decorating the location to make it feel authentic.

Worst customer service - take out

By ovillanieto |

Don’t order take out from this place - I ordered 2 Salmon hash for my kids and I noticed one order was wrong, I tried to change it for the corn beef, but they didn’t let me change it, they were very rude, they told me that some one will have to pay it for it, I ended up having to pay for an extra order at full price. Any decent restaurant would have replaced or give me an option. They just don’t get it ... that restaurants are closing for not being flexible and thinking on their customers. Sadly enough I had just recommended this restaurant last weekend to a friend and he and his familia liked it. I will be more thoughtful next time. I will not recommend this restaurant or go there any more, there is manny options in Portland better than this fake French Bakery

Great food

By Norma D |

We had to wait over 45 min. as they do not take reservations. The food was great however. A bit pricy for breakfast but none of us wanted lunch after as we were all too full. We each tried something different and all loved their choices. I went way over my caloric limit for the day though. :).

Delightful experience

By OR_Foodie229 |

When you enter, you're hit with the wonderful smells of freshly baked goods. If you're ordering pastries to go from the case or a beverage walk up to the counter. Otherwise wait for a seat in the cozy dining area. They do offer dining at a bar off to your right. We went for breakfast. One word: Amazing. We ordered the salmon hash and their meurette benedict. The meurette is a twist on a traditional benedict. It comes with a burgundy reduction on a croissant (w/ poached eggs). Really yummy. The same goes for the salmon hash (you can order eggs as you like them). What a flavor experience. Both are full portions with full flavors -- meaning more than we could finish. There are so many other options we'll have to go again.

Missing Corned Beef and Tough Soup

By JoAnn B |

First, the service was excellent. We were a large group (9) and were able to make a reservation for the mezzanine in the early afternoon. Our waitstaff were attentive, but not obtrusive. Unfortunately some of our food did not live up to expectations. My husband's corned beef hash was seriously lacking in corned beef, although the poached eggs were perfect. Four of us had the french onion soup. It came in a wide shallow bowl that was completely covered with very crunchy bread and overcooked cheese. We had to use forks and knives to cut through this topping; spoons should have been sufficient. I would be hesitant to order these items again.

OMG...Delicious

By Ollie201550 |

Amazing food, great atmosphere. I have dreams about this place. The pastries are a must (and don't forget the berry jam) and the Creme Brule Oatmeal is inspired. They also make a perfect poached egg. Love this place!

Average with a slight french flair

By John V |

Small tables made even smaller when drinks, bread and plates added. Friday night music with french tones was enjoyable. Server was adequate at best. Small plates are exactly that, but so are the full dinners. Mussels were the best part of tonight's meal. Recommend St. Hliaire champagne by the bottle.

Oui oui for breakfast

By russiantwin |

Unbelievable breakfast and nice pastries. Big portions and friendly service. The corned beef hash, omelette, and eggs Benedict were superb. We sat at the bar since there was a 20 minutes wait for a table and enjoyed it completely. No wait for tables outside . Good spot for strolling around the neighbourhood after eating. Highly recommend.

New Years Morning

By Barbara H |

We love petite Provence, however new years morning was not so good for us. What are usually fantastic lattes were mediocre, and our breakfast of French toast and eggs Benedict were fair. I know they were slammed, and that being said they're unable to handle large crowds like that morning.

Airport concession is also good

By fred200099 |

Had a "croque Provence" and a double espresso for a satisfying breakfast start at the airport. Paper plates and plastic ware detracted from the experience but the food was better than typical airport choices.

Surprised by the service quality.

By Colleen S |

I was surprised by the poor service as I frequent the location in Lake Oswego and have always had a great experience. The person greeting us was not friendly and had us wait for a while with empty tables that needed to be cleared. Our server walked past us about 1/2 dozen times before I had to stop him and ask to order. He was not friendly at all. The meal was good I had the polenta and egg dish but the service was so dismissive it overwhelmed the food. Disappointing visit.

Yummy

By Jill S |

Had a wonderful brunch with a friend. Food was delicious and service was excellent. I was able to customize my sandwich to maximize my enjoyment.

Provence? Nope, Portland!

By smatjapan |

Great little French restaurant with authentic embellishments and decor. The food was true to its name. Both savory and sweets with a proper patisserie! Tre bien!

Crowded

By tiredandtravelled |

Yep crowded hanging off the rafters. The space to order from the bakery and to go with the food is almost in the dining room. Someone pushed my chair in. Food is good, but the venue seems too small for the amount of people. Customers wait outside and inside. Very little parking unless you love to walk. Good Coffee, croissant, some of the loaves of bread are DRY, sliced for free. Great tea. But the breakfast and sandwiches are incredibly rich, very french?

Best and most reasonable place ever

By Punit M |

Ultra good french food and pastries, for brunch, Eggs Provencal are a must, their french toast is also a standout, very reasonably priced

Lovely Brunch!

By sharrongeg |

My daughter and son-in-law just purchased a house in the area, and this was our first time here. Lovely atmosphere and friendly (although not very prompt) service. Ordered the eggs Benedict ($16.75). Very good! Also ordered the risotto cakes & eggs ($16.75) and baked eggs a la Francaise ($15.50) and all our breakfast entrees were excellent.. Also ordered a side of lemon pancakes w/poached pear ($14.25) and done of us liked it. Just really odd flavor. Coffee was very good. 3 adults for brunch (no alcohol, just drip coffee) and the bill was $78 without tip.

Sunday Afternoon

By Kerhee |

Such a disappointment. This was not my first visit to Petite Provence, and I may return, but not on a Sunday afternoon. The 40 minute wait was comfortable - no complaints. Once seated we were told they were out of; all pastries, sour dough bread (we later found out) white bread, many desserts, croissants and crepes. How does a French influenced, American restaurant run out of crepes? All crepes? Aren't they just flour, eggs and water? I ordered the creamy Risotto Cakes with fresh fruit (I was asked to choose a side although the menu states it comes with potatoes) When the plate arrived, it was barely warm, the eggs were over poached (very hard) and the Risotto Cakes were only 1/2 thick, very hard and dry. I had a difficult time cutting them with a fork. If there was asparagus in them it was not detectable. The fruit was sliced very thin, and truly resembled the garnish on my Mimosa glass. I believe it was a glass garnish. There is NO EXCUSE for turning out over cooked food. There is no excuse for running out of so many menu items on a Non-holiday, Sunday. SHAME ON YOU. You can do better

Delicious pastries

By T9104TZjh |

A friend took me here while I was visiting Portland. It can get pretty busy, but we were lucky enough to show up just before the crowd. The service and the food was quite good. Had the eggs Benedict on a croissant and a Cuban coffee which was delicious. Also purchased some pastries to go for the long road trip home, and they were tasty. Highly recommend.

Great for dates

By laura w |

My partner brings me here for celebration brunchs and/or regular brunches. Delicious food with great portions make the prices fair, and the staff are always chatty and fun. I like to people watch and drool over the pastry case as well. One of my neighborhood favorites.

take out food during covid 19 and superb

By Teresa M |

during covid 19 we wanted to get some take out for lunch yesterday at petite provence....i had the Grilled Wild Albacore Tuna Melt , and my partner had the Vegetarian Garden Croissant Sandwich ..we each added salads to the food..we wore masks, as did the staff...the food was superb and the staff wonderful as always....be sure to tip big during these challenging times...thx!

Super good service, even when busy

By Cassie P |

I went at a super busy time at lunch, and even though I was alone and at this time, I was serviced immediately and with a very polite pace! I would recommend the Provence burger and the hibiscus lemonade both fairly decent options. The price was pretty fair, but I would warn that again, at lunch it's pretty busy.

Disappointed French Dining.

By Navigator02738024216 |

Great service, nice ambiance, but mediocre offerings. Soggy croissant no crispness, greasy salmon hash, weak cappuccino. Real disappointment. We expected better.

I could eat here every day.

By Fitzit |

I stayed 4 blocks from here for a month. They became my go to. Early and late hours for the neighborhood. Consistent, like chain food consistent, but completely scratch made, cooking. 16oz coffees, in a mug. And fresh juice drinks that had me staying hydrated the way my wife would like me to. And, all the great baked goods!

Always Good

By KendraTravels |

I had to stop in for breakfast while in PDX. The NW omelette with smoked salmon is a must try if you're in the area. They have great desserts too but I didn't try any this time. Also, the lavender mimosa is amazing!

Wonderful Pastries!

By Mc M |

Stopped by for coffee and pastries. Lovely cafe with sumptuous choices of pastries. My husband always has a croissant but with the sweet waiter's advice, I had a decadent blueberry cheese pastry and I loved every last morsel!

Lunch at happy hour

By QMiracle |

Had the Provence blt, with the fruit cup, which is actually chia seed pudding. Also ordered lavender bee’s knee. Blt had egg and avocado, but didn’t wow me. The drink was average. Service was very nice.

Truly Excellent Breakfast!

By Wildwoodatheart |

There is a reason that people wait in line to get in this place for brunch. It is REALLY good! We met some local friends here while passing through the area. Parking was a bit of a problem; we found a spot several blocks away. (We were lucky.) They have a very interesting and extensive menu. I settled for the homemade corned beef hash and eggs. It was absolutely delicious! My daughter had the chicken sandwich, and she said it was fantastic. They also have REALLY good coffee. Everyone in our group ordered a croissant with their meal BECAUSE THEY ARE AMAZING! I would love to go back to this place for dinner sometime IF I did not have to try to find parking again.

An outdoor cafe that will have you thinking of Paris

By Raymond P |

My wife and I had a lovely breakfast. The bakery has excellent croissants (as you would expect) with a variety of Mimosa drinks. The food is very good and some of the selections (Salmon mash) are unique. You will not be disappointed but you may have to wait if you arrive late for breakfast.

So good!!

By Irene P |

Best pastries in town!!! Love this place so much, great for brunch or just going in for a dessert. Love that they have multiple locations.

Delightful service, Delicious Food makes for a great evening

By Marilyn H |

We walked by this adorable restaurant with the lights hanging out front and were immediately drawn in by the cozy elegance. Our server was outstanding, very helpful with the menu and friendly. The food was really, really good. French onion soup and the Monte Christo sandwich were just yum. The cherry on top was the mocha-chocolate cake. It was a wonderful dining experience.

Awesome food and service!

By Ying L |

Had a great experience at Petite Provence. The food was amazing and service was great too. The croissant is to die for. Highly recommend!

Terrible customer service

By _tomnguyen001 |

Extremely rude staff. We came in and were looking at their selection of pastries - no one near us! A female staff member began to berate us and told us to step behind the line and wait - there was no one in the line (one couple at the take-out counter). This is the type of behavior that destroys customer relationship. For those of you who think this is a great place, wait until they show you how hospitality is really like. BTW - this is right after Portland is clear to be in the low risk category.

Wonderful French Flair

By Gail N |

Beautifully attractive spot for a terrific gourmet breakfast. Very interesting menu with things you don't see on average breakfast menus. This was anything but average. Great egg dishes, interesting french toast items and french pasties to faint from!

Warm tasty croissant

By Saydee09 |

I wasn’t blown away by this place for breakfast. It wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t impressive. They did have a very good croissant & I enjoyed the Bloody Mary flight but other than that I wasn’t too impressed. The bakery portion looked good though. The spicy Bloody Mary was the best.

Disappointed...

By Beth W |

Petite Provence was on our list while visiting the Alberta area of Portland on our recent trip in July. We were staying down the street at the Tiny House Hotel. Reviews sounded wonderful. We arrived at 5:15 for happy hour on a Monday night. There was one waitress for 4 occupied tables. We were greeted by the barista. After being seated, it took almost 20 minute before someone approached our table to take our order. Because happy hour was quickly winding down, we placed our drink and dinner order at the same time. Drinks took another 10-15 minutes to arrive. Again, there were only 4-6 occupied tables in the entire place. The barista actually came over to take our order, seeing us from her station, and noticing that no one was tending our table. My husband ordered the duck rillette - the fennel in the dish completely overwhelmed the dish. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu - underseasoned and sadly unmemorable. Once food was delivered to the table, no one stopped by to see if we needed anything or to check status of the quality of the meal. The chicken cordon bleu was actually lukewarm. Cocktails were the highlight of the night. The lavender "Bee's Knees" was delicious as was the margarita. Service was strange - no dedicated wait staff for any area of the restaurant. Barista seated us, provide menus and took our order. A very indifferent male staff member delivered the food. Barista provided our check, and a random waitress handled the payment. An odd and disappointing experience.

Great food, great atmosphere

By Greg W |

The hardest decision you’ll have to make here is what the order. Everything on the menu sounds delicious. And it turns out that it is delicious. I had the baked eggs nestled in a pot and they were outstanding.

IF ONLY THERE WAS A "10" STAR RATING!!!

By Tameira B |

My hubby and I decided to eat here on a whim! We absolutely loved it! We ordered their appetizer of cheese bread! omg, yuuuum!!! The main courses were the scallops and they were amaaazing!!! My husband got the pork chops. He enjoyed them but had a hard time keeping his fork away from mine. Then we had dessert! Ya can't go to a french restaurant and NOT have dessert! What are ya craaazy? I had the coconut dessert (looked like a snow ball) and a cream inside and mango!!! It was fantastic! My hubby had the chocolate cake that had many layers and he said was super rich and delicious!!!

Respectful and caring staff

By Patricia O |

I met a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. We had so much to catch up on! It was a time when the restaurant wasn't busy, so we talked and talked. The waiter was so accommodating and respectful of the pokey way we were eating. The food was tasty, well-prepared and well-presented. I recommend this place without hesitation and will definitely return.

Very Pleased

By NieChi |

I'm from Portland and so much has changed since I moved away. I was in town for the weekend and my friend said we had to try this restaurant for breakfast. My breakfast was simple but very tasty. The butter croissant was delish and I sampled my friend's omelet...great. I will definitely return. There were so many other things I wanted to try but no room in my tummy. :)

Good, would be even better with improved service

By MIfamilyguy |

This cafe is in the trendy Alberta Arts district. They offer a selection of cakes and pastries, plus brunch and lunch. (Maybe there's dinner too, but I didn't see that menu.) The lunch menu includes soups and quiches as well as sandwiches. You can also order beer and wine. We all agreed our food was very good, and I really enjoyed the salmon quiche. Our gripe was with the slow service and incorrect order. First, we'd been seated a long time before our server came over. Then, one sandwich came with fruit instead of the fries we'd asked for. (Was our server judging us?) Replacement fries took a really long time to arrive. So, slightly disappointing on the service front, but good food and not overly expensive.

Everything is DELICIOUS

By AShibalover |

Best hot chocolate in Portland! Not kidding !! We went for breakfast and were so happy we chose it. The quantity and the quality are both outstanding. Each of our four meals were delicious. We each got something different so we could share. So glad we did. All of the pastries we've tried have been scrumptious. They use high quality ingredients and it is obvious. It does get crowded so be prepared to wait. You won't regret it.

Very good

By SDmomm |

What a yummy fun restaurant! It's a perfect place for a smaller crowd. They have the best crescents and macaroons. I had a beef medallion slider plate and their fries. Amazingly good.

Delicious brunch spot

By drmakh |

Lovely brunch before my flight back home to Florida. The food was excellent. I had the West Coast Benedict, eggs perfectly cooked on a croissant with salmon, avocado and a yummy dill sauce. Friend had the onion soup and croque monsieur. Good service and great food.

Best croissant outside Paris

By nruth |

This restaurant/ patisserie always has the absolute best croissants possible. Their breakfasts and lunches are great too and the place often has a line so come prepared to wait. The desserts are lovely too. There are several of these in metropolitan area.

Dumpster Dining!

By Ms.M |

Obviously improperly cleaned tea cups with the original and replacement. The first cup had obvious dried coffee stains on the inside of the cup. I ordered tea so I caught the stains before using the tea cups. The replacement had bright pink lipstick smudges around the cup. Neither of us wore makeup or lipstick. There were three long fibers that looked like cat whiskers or dog hair in food. One of the sides looked like recooked food scrap remains, thick plastic found in the other persons meat in fried in with the omelette. The other person croissant was hard and chewy as if it had been reheated and served.

bar is superb

By Teresa M |

we returned for lunch at the cozy bar yesterday during a spring storm...henry is a superb bartender, and we had the flight of mimosas, orange, mango, blood orange, and prickley pear...all were fresh and tasty...i had the wild salmon salad with lentils, and my partner had the wild salmon hash and croissant...the food was excellent too..thx so much

Delicious breakfast

By twinmom8 |

Found this place for breakfast. We ordered the crepes and provence Benedict. The provence Benedict was served on a fresh croissant and the crepes were filled with blueberries. The compote had both blueberries & raspberries. Service was quick and efficient. Will be back to try other items on menu.

Breakfast on Alberta st.

By leonora a |

The service was impeccable. The baked eggs were savory and delightful. When traveling to PDX, everyone has a list of places to hit, voodoo donuts, Pok Pok, and Pine State. For me, all it takes is a line out the door to change my plans. The line at Pine State led me to Petite. I left with a small box of macarons. I'll definitely be back.

Just Wow!

By Marinamama211 |

If you haven't had their French Toast, then you are missing a real treat! My go to dish! They also have a bakery case for things to go, loaded with sinful temptations!

Brunch

Absolutely fantastic.. exceptionally Good service.. great menu to choose from.. See the pictures 😋😋.. definitely worth visiting.. We shall go again.. really great atmosphere and love the huge warehouse type door that is open so you can eat inside but feel the air 🤗

Baked eggs!

By BMIhonestfeedback |

Love the baked eggs a la francaise. 2 pouched eggs with hash browns, mushrooms, ham and onions. Baked in an oven with grilled cheese on top. Amazing! Also they have many tables outside which enables our dog to sit with us. Fantastic service too!

A wonderfully petite poo

By PDXPOOPER |

Pe(e)tite Provence restroom: Design: 8.8/10–the decor of checkered walls and soft hues made for an easy drop off spot. Cleanliness: 9.0/10–sparkly clean and smelling like the French Riviera, or how I’d like to imagine it would smell. Would be ok eating escargot off these floors. Overall, a very pleasant place to French kiss the loo with your bum. The styling made for a lovely French cafe that felt immaculately clean and comfortable.

Excellent Breakfast

By Noslen1947 |

Must visit for their bakery. Extremely widr selection of delicious delights for everyone. Croisants a must with their jam. Oatmeal is superb, do not even have to add sugar.Home made sausage a treat on the breakfast menu.

Nice pastries

By 730jane |

I stopped in to get breakfast to go. The pastries were all so beautiful it was hard to choose. I ended up trying a raspberry croissant, which to me looked like a danish, but was excellent. I had the kouign amann which was rather bland and was lacking the sugar that I was expecting. The texture did not seem as flaky as it should be. Later I had a salted caramel macaroon and it was superb and had a lovely layer of caramel inside. The coffee was good. Overall a very nice patisserie.

Excellent food

By MomoMorales |

My husband and I came here for breakfast while we were Portland. He had the wild smoked salmon hash which was extremely tasty and nothing like we have tasted before. He also had a fresh pastry with warm strawberry jam. I had the Banana French Toast which had a wonderful caramel glaze and roasted walnuts. The bananas were also cooked in the glaze instead of just cut and thrown on top. We were also surprised to find pineapple juice on the menu! The restaurant is beautiful, the servers are very friendly, and the food is afford. They have their own bakery that you can also order from. My husband and I will definitely be coming back to try more food.

fun and many food options/drinks

we wanted to return for lunch yesterday, all masked up, and sat outdoors...i had an oj mimosa, and my partner had the flight of mimosas...next, we each had the salmon salade, and she also added a cup of french onion soup....it was cold out, but the staff turned the heater on, and we were all bundled up...the staff is the nicest!........the food/beverages were excellent is always.....the music was festive and fun too...be sure to tip big during the pandemic....thx so much!

Fantastic Brunch

Superb Patisserie in the Alberta district of Portland, Oregon serves artisanal baked goods and a varied breakfast menu. Omelettes, hash brown casseroles, wonderful baked goods are sure to please all palettes!

The food was great, but the best part was the Mimosa Flight. Not sure why Trip Advisor makes you use a minimum of 100 characters in the review. Dumb!

Excellent Breakfast!

Had Northwest Berry Crepes. They were great. Not too sweet. The wait for brunch on a Sunday was not long. Service was great. Will try again!

Delicious Food

When we visit Portland, we typically stop at Petite Provence for either breakfast or lunch. Food selections for both are excellent. It is served hot, fresh and nicely presented. The staff members are always efficient and friendly. The pastries are superb!

Macaroons!

By PortlandOregon2012 |

Their macaroons are so delicious. Sandwiches and baked goods are also great. Lunch and weekends can get busy but just get your food to go and eat it on Mt. Tabor!

A perfect meal! (and take-home treats!)

By Frank S |

All 4 of us simply loved eating here! Not to mention, a wonderful pastry window filled with delights---great macarons---and the food was delightful!

This place is dangerously good!

By Onedan |

Yes, the croissants. Best I've had outside of France. Pastries of many varieties, all good although some a little too sweet for me. Bread is great. My fave is having breakfast here. Everything I've tried is yummy. Friends and family I've brought say the same. Service is very good but if you go at popular times it will be a wait.

Wondeful!

Salmon was amazing! Great service, food. Desserts to die for and very well made coffees! You must try it!

A Slice of Southern France!

By RushCubFan |

We went for coffee and stayed for breakfast and pastries. Even at 9:30 on a Thursday morning it was very busy. But we walked in and found a table for 5 - Providence! The coffee, roasted especially for them, was fantastic - full, rich and flavorful. The food was divine - omelettes beyond description but delicious. The side dish of roasted potatoes and butternut squash was a real treat. And breakfast comes with a croissant! After breakfast we loaded up on macarones, more pastries and their coffee. The bliss was extended.

A little taste of France

By Kathleen W |

Everyone I have taken here that has been to France (which is unfortunately not me) says the food and especially the croissants are as good as the french make. I'm warning you...split a breakfast. I bought 10 of the petite trio's pasties for a brunch I had for friends and they were the hit of the party. You can take the Max to the one in Orenco Station and than go to Washington Park and walk off the calories! ENJOY!

Very good

By johnStaBarbara |

This was a nice experience. Festive atmosphere and good food. We especially liked the fruit tarts and macaroons available at the counter.

The croissants better here than in Paris!

By Marina B |

From what I understand, this place was opened by some French friends about 20 years ago. I've been to France a few times and this place takes me right back there. (good sigh!) The first time I entered it and saw their pastry and cakes displayed, it felt like, "this is what my heaven looks like!" They play lovely French-y cafe music that makes you feel like you are in the movie, Amelie. This isn't a fancy fine dining experience. It's more rustic, bistro, cafe, pastry shop coziness. Their brunch time is very busy but worth the wait, just best to come here when you are not in a rush to get anywhere else. The salmon hash is my favorite savory breakfast but just having some pastries and their in house made raspberry jam with a nice almond milk latte and I'm set too. Hard to decide sometimes which way to go! Oh, and I haven't been here in the evening yet but they supposedly have live music on weekend nights that is a different atmosphere. Will have to check it out sometime.

Save room for dessert!

By eugeboy_at_LARGE |

I've had breakfast here a couple times and it is one of my favorite places in Portland. It has that true French Bistro look and feel. The food is always excellent and the pastry bar is the stuff of dreams!

Always delicious

By kregerbryant |

I have lived in Portland for 8 years now, and for 8 years off and on I have frequented this restaurant! It is CONSISTENTLY DELICIOUS! The croissants are divine! It wasn't until this week with so many guests in town and visiting it 4 times, that I realized I should put it on trip advisor! It is nestled in a popular Portland neighborhood and alberta street has it's own fun flair-so for breakfast, brunch or lunch-be sure to try Petite Provence!!!!! It is WORTH it!

Best little cafe!!

We have stopped in at the Dalles before but we're very happy to find Portland petite. Excellent service and wonderful food.

Used to be 5 stars

By Sarah F |

We went for Mother's day brunch and made a reservation in advance. I informed the person taking the reservation that we'd have a little one with us. When we arrived the table was ready and we were seated right away. Coffee was brought quickly and was delicious. We ordered the bananas with creme for starters, I ordered the brie-stuffed eggs with chives, my husband ordered the eggs Benedict and we ordered french toast for the little one. The bananas and creme used to be free of charge (like 2-3 years ago), and we didn't mind paying, but if we're going to pay for something it should at least be fresh! The raw hazelnuts were served whole atop the bananas and stale - they turned to mush in my mouth. I do NOT remember that dish being made that way before. After that disappointment, what happened next was that we were ignored for over half an hour. I timed it - over half an hour wait for some eggs! My husband had to take the exasperated baby outside for about 20 minutes finally to walk around because he was getting so anxious. The restaurant was just beginning to get busy (we had an early reservation), and you'd think they'd want to turn tables quicker than that, but no. During the wait (where they should have noticed I was sitting alone for 20 minutes) I had to ask for more coffee, and it took them a long time to bring it. I noticed that the Latino cooks in the kitchen did not seem to be hustling, nor did the waitresses who were supposed to be finishing and presenting the plates. The owner, who used to do the cooking herself, was busy playing "front of the house". I really was almost at my wits end when I saw a table that had been seated after us, brought their food first. I mean seriously - I have a toddler and can whip up that breakfast faster than these people. When the food FINALLY came we were all exhausted and starving. The husband said the Benedict was good. My eggs with brie tasted like it had been sitting on the counter for a while, and not under a warmer. The french toast was nothing to write home about. In all I was and am still incredibly disappointed. This was supposed to be the highlight of my mother's day weekend and I was looking forward to this meal literally for weeks. This restaurant used to be one of the most amazing places I've ever been. Now I'd say that it is just as good as any other breakfast place, and maybe worse. Might as well go to Pig 'N Pancake next time. At least the food would come faster. So, so disappointed.

Delicious food & live music

By Paul |

The food is delicious, salmon risotto was our favorite! Truffle fries with garlic aioli was yummy too. The live music was nice and we had a nice view of Alberta St as well.

RUNNING ON MOMENTUM

By MrRodgers2011 |

Lots of places on NE Alberta to eat, but this one has an on premise bakery and a large variety of baked goods and desserts to take home with you. The only available 2 person table was located in the bar area, and I ordered coffee while waiting for my guest to show up. The bar seems to be staffed by people rotating through it, so my coffee was served by one person, and he left so I was not offered any refills. When my guest arrived, another person showed up to take our order, and offer a coffee refill for me. The food was good, I can recommend the "Day Breaker" at a reasonable $9.50, my guest had a Beet and Blue (cheese) Salad for $13.75. Both portions were ample but not overly large. Parking in the area around this restaurant is street parking only and it is difficult to find. Usually a block or block and a half walk is needed to get to the front door. The restaurant area (to the left when entering) would be the best choice if you wish to have consistent, attentive service. The tables in the bar area are mostly an after thought, and service is very poor, relegated to the happenstance of wait staff coming by for some other reason.

Croissants

By Bouncnb |

So flakey, so good, so worth it. If you are in the area and want to grab something quick... you can't go wrong. I have had breakfast at another location before and it was delicious! I will definitely be going back.

Interesting and filling breakfasts!

By P-and-R1976 |

Came for breakfast on a Thursday morning before leaving Portland. Petite Provence is both a bakery and a restaurant. The bakery has loaves of different breads, croissants, and pastries/cookies. The croissants being served at breakfast are huge and very flaky. Pastries and muffins are also very good. The restaurant serves breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner. I had the Croque Provence - a breakfast sandwich-like selection which was tasty. My husband had the corned beef hash, finished with quite a bit of mild horseradish cream, and found that this completely overshadowed the taste of the corned beef hash. We saw the Roasted Oatmeal Brulee being served at another table; it looked very interesting.

Great Food

By Cecily M |

We went for lunch today for my daughter and grandsons birthday. They do not take reservations on Saturday or Sunday between 9:30 and 2:00 but we took a chance that it wouldn't be to bad on a Sunday at 1:00. We still waited over 30 minutes but there were 8 in our party. The location of the restaurant is in a quaint neighborhood that Portland has worked hard to revive. An artsy community inside a mostly residential area. Lots of people out walking. There is only street parking and it can be difficult to find a spot close by. When you walk in you are greeted by a display case of the most amazing French pastries and goodies. I was tempted to forget the meal and go straight for the sweets, and many of the patrons there are having just coffee and a pastry. You can also get the pastries to go as well. The place is small and cozy. There is a loft upstairs for extra seating. The front windows are all open to give it that indoor/outdoor feel of a true French cafe. I really liked the atmosphere. Our waitress was really nice and got our drink order right away. We had to try the mimosas. They were really good and not outrageously priced. The food menu is very unique, not the same old items you see everywhere else. Savory French Toast, Baked Eggs, two types of Eggs Benedict, omelettes, Monte Cristo, etc. I had the savory French toast. It was delicious and a huge serving. My daughter had the baked eggs, which was also wonderful. I highly recommend both. The must have is the warm croissant with the raspberry jam, and the banana French toast, which one order is enough for two. We had decided before the meal that we would get some dessert and some pastries to go, but we were way to full. Our luck there were samples of the pastries at the bakery counter so we didn't feel deprived at all. Really enjoyed this place. Everything was exceptional and I'll definitely be back, even if I have to wait 30 minutes. It's worth it!

A Nice Little Bistro

By Harold T |

This is a review of their Alberta Street location. If you looking for a good dinner at a reasonable price, this is a good choice. Soup, wine, entree, and dessert for less than $30. The food was very good, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed. Reservations are only available for groups of eight or more but I had no problem as a walk-in on a Friday evening.

Very good service

By Sandy N |

We came here for dinner and I ordered the goat cheese and pear salad as well as the chicken cordon bleu. My salad was good, but there wasn't a lot of goat cheese in it and the pear portion consisisted of several razor thin slices of pear. My chicken cordon bleu came with excellent garlic mash potatoes, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. It was good except I would say that the vegetable selection was not my favorite. The entre portion was generous and I was able to have it again at home for lunch the next day.

So French, So Good

By tdhat |

My wife ordered the "Wild Northwest Salmon Hash" and it was outstanding! I had the "Meurette Benedict" and this is one I'm gonna have to try and replicate at home. the eggs were PERFECT!!! While I was looking up the menu to make sure and get the items right for this review, I just noticed the "Risotto Cakes and Eggs" and now I know what I want to try next.

Very good all the way around - delicious!

By karensquirkies |

WE had lunch - I had the vegetarian croissant - yummy! (forget what my husband had, but he said it was great!) Portions were hearty (being seniors, we took half of it back on the road with use for dinner). I recommend the Lemon Graffitti (layered chocolate, white chocolate, lemon, etc) for dessert! (about $5/portion for dessert things from the bakery cases). Lunch with dessert ran about $35-40 for the two of us. It is seat yourself - they get busy by noon, so maybe go a bit earlier...

Food is Always Great!

Best known for breakfast, brunch and pastries, but also has a wonderful dinner menu with little to no wait time.

Petite Provence is Perfection!

Petite Provence offers a huge array of pastries and croissants. We tried several pastries and they were all little pieces of perfection!

My favorite breakfast in Portland

By HikingGirl406 |

My daughter and I took an Uber while on a long weekend in Portland and instead of taking us to where we had picked he recommended this place. What an amazing treat! We were blown away not only but the superior customer service but the spectacular food. The first time I had coffee and a pastry while my teenage daughter had hot chocolate and a pastry. We loved it so much we went back a second time and got full breakfasts which were so big we should have shared one. It was amazing and I highly recommend anyone to go!

Unlikely to return

By Dana P |

Have gone to this Petite Provence on Alberta several times over a number of years and have noticed a pretty significant drop in the quality of the service and the quality of the food. We had breakfast, both of us the La Provence Benedict - my usual. The potatoes and butternut squash were tepid and mushy, the poached eggs underdone (liquidy whites), and the ham, while described on the menu as a "thich slice of ham", was just too tough and, really, just too much. The service has also declined - the wait staff seemed very disinterested in working there. The charm, service, and the quality does not warrant a $60 breakfast (OJ/Coffee/tip) Will likely not return :(

Wonderful food and atmosphere

By Es.sea.jay |

While staying in the Alberta Arts District for a weekend, we found this quaint bistro on an evening walk. Great service and the portion sizes were just right! Our group of 8 sat at the bar while we waited for our table to be prepared. Bartender was a kick! Ordered a Bee’s Knees” cocktail made with a lavender honey simple syrup (I think) - yum!!

Best Brunch Around

By twbk |

I have brunch at Petite Provence every time I'm in Portland. Their menu is expansive and delicious. The risotto cakes with eggs are my favorite, but don't miss the croissants with raspberry jam -- to die for! I will say, the restaurant itself gets very busy and crowded, especially on weekend mornings, and can feel quite hectic. I don't mind it, but some people might find it off putting. Still, it's worth it for a great meal!

Delightful brunch

By Waitsburg55 |

The first impression: WOW! The cases holding delicious looking cakes and pastries are inviting. The employees were helpful and friendly and engaging. Everything on the menu - both breakfast (available until 3) and lunch options looked great. My friend ordered the special: a hash cooked in a crock, topped with melted cheese and poached eggs was wonderful. I had roasted tomatoes topped with pesto, mozzarella and two poached eggs, served with roasted red potatoes and butternut squash. It was fabulous. I cannot wait to go back! It was busy but not so noisy. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Gone downhill

By Ra and Scott |

We used to come here all the time and you got this French environment with real French like food and it tasted homemade and original. They have started to expand and unfortunately with that direction they have traded off food for Service. Their service is wonderful. But now their croissant is maybe one or two steps above a grocery store .. comes Cold to the table. The omelette it’s like a thick slab that you could bounce off the plate. Their coffee and espresso while local is really average for a Portland consumer. I’m sad. I won’t come here again. Even though I love the way they understand service and it is important to me and it is a rare thing to find that in Portland. They have paid the price for expansion. And feel more like a chain that Lost a link.

Really nice place to hang out

By Tony R |

Very good service, and seems like they have good food too, I have to try that next time, good bakery products, will definitely stop by again

French onion soup is a must!

By twintp |

We were here for lunch and the portion sizes are quite large. French onion soup was wonderful and be sure to ask for extra bread to dip! Salads are very fresh and yummy and the sandwiches are sharable. Make sure to leave room for a sweet - they have so much to choose from but we chose cookies to go that are large and very tasty!!

Best dinner in ages

By Sabs |

We loved this place. It made us eat three courses which we never do but the main dishes were so great- we had to learn about the desert :) Great service, great food and on top of everything: the bill was very small including a very decent bottle of wine for only 10$. Highly recommended plus it’s located on Alberta Street which is another good reason to go!

Just Okay

By Mary B |

We went here for breakfast on a recent visit to Portland (my hometown). Maybe it was just me, but there was something about the space that just wasn't comfortable or particularly welcoming. We were seated at a small table in the center of the restaurant. Our server was reasonably attentive. I am a tea drinker and always find it odd when I get a cup of hot water instead of a teapot. It took a while for me to get our server's attention so I could get more hot water. I ordered a fairly basic egg, carb, sausage breakfast. The sausage was delicious and the croissant was quite good. The veg on the plate (potatoes and squash) and the eggs were just average. Overall, it was okay, but also kind of expensive for what you get. I would not return here.

Like a French bistro.

By nukesafe |

We had a group dinner at the Alberta Street branch of this chain after one of my Wife's glass classes, and it was a brilliant choice for such a group meal. We were seated in the upstairs section, and proceeded to have a very satisfactory meal without disturbing the other patrons below (I hope). The food was excellent, as was the service. I particularly enjoyed the marrow bone. American restaurants at which that is served are few and far between, IME. We also liked the fact that one could order smaller portions of many of the main dishes, which allowed us to splurge on one of their delicious pastries for desert. I liked it so much that I returned for breakfast the next morning. The place was packed on a Sunday morning, but I was able to get a window seat where I could watch the rain pour off the awnings and feel as if I were sitting in a bistro in Paris. We will return, for sure.

Wonderful breakfast, even by Portland standards

By Bill H |

I try to visit Petite Provence at least once when I'm fortunate enough to visit Portland. My salmon hash was simply magnificent, with ample salmon and perfectly cooked eggs. They were accompanied by a croissant that melted in my mouth, homemade jam, and coffee that's strong but has no hint of bitterness. And the pastries are amazing too. A must try.

had a delicious dinner

we have returned to petite provence a few times for lunch, and met a friend for dinner last night....i had the mimosa with oj, and my partner had the rum chai...our friend had blanc wine....next, she and i shared the french onion soup, the butternut and kale salade, and added big shrimp...this was one of the most delicious salads, loaded and healthy, and the soup was excellent...then we had the wild sockeye salmon with risotto, which was good too...our friend had the steak pommes frites, french onion soup, and chicken cordon bleau ...he was happy too...he had the marionberry cheesecake, and my partner had 2 desserts wrapped to go, the marionberry tart, and fruit tart.......we love coming here...the staff is the friendliest....she was so nice and informative...thx so much....

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner

By Gringo_N_Oregon |

Whether you go for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner you'll be rewarded with some great food and good service at very fair prices. The pastry selection is wonderful and worth the visit by itself. Breakfast is awesome and the dinner menu includes tasty entrees as well as "Petite Entrees" which are small plates like Tapas. Tip: Leave room for dessert.

Delicious and Reasonable!

By minic00per |

This is a great little French cafe. It was recommended by our Airbnb hosts. What a treat. It is in the Alberta Arts section of town. There was live French bistro music on a Friday night. It wasn't packed so we got right in and had a window table. My husband ordered the shrimp special which was around $14 and I had a filet mignon small plate for just $9. Delicious sauce. Nice glass of Pinot noir too. Dinner came to just $36.95 including wine for two.

Pretty good

By Andy M |

When my wife and I walked in, we had no idea how the place was oriented and nobody offered a table or direction, and everyone else that walked in had no idea either so we all stood in an awkward clump for a long while. One of the best croissants I've had outside of Paris. All the pastries were great but the food was not as consistent and the service was sketchy - our server had not much in the way of grace and didn't seem to want to be there. He came up and distractedly asked," What do ya want?" Then, all of our order came out all at once to our little table (very quickly, to our surprise). The pork-cheeks were good, but a little bland, the frites were perfect, and the salad with cauliflower and red cabbage was OK. Then, we couldn't our server to come back, so we decided to get the check as soon as we could and get our deserts at the to-go counter. It wasn't that crowded (a Thursday night). So, I guess it's a little too French-authentic without really good food to back it up. We would go back only for the to-go pastries

Terrible service revealed on a slow day (I usually blame the heavy traffic for poor service here)

By SumSummer |

TERRIBLE service last Sunday. (11/13/2016) Here's what happened: We came just after the brunch crowd and were happy to see 5-7 open tables, walked up to the hostess and were told the wait was going to be 30 minutes. The tables didn't seem to be reserved so I was puzzled but said okay, we'll wait; my date asked to be seated at the bar and the hostess simply responded by saying actually we're about to start seating so it may be sooner. They called name after name and of course, as was obvious outside, no one was there. I come often on Sundays and people often abandon their place, but the hostess should have noticed. There were literally three groups outside waiting on empty (and clean) tables. When we were called, I realized why we had to wait, we were taken to the tiny corner with no place to put our bags because there were only two of us. Apparently two people can't be seated at a larger table even when it's slow. I've always known the seating was poor here, but never realized how stingy they are with it until this trip. The restaurant never filled up while I was there either. Then I ordered my food, nothing complicated, but when it came it was an entirely different plate of food, I normally wouldn't say anything if just one thing was switched, but it wasn't what I ordered so I said so. The person who served it (not our waitress) didn't ask what I ordered and took it back too fast to comment, then finally the waitress brought back the correct dish about 15 minutes later looking far too apologetic. When I realized the food was cold, I didn't say anything because I worried the poor girl was treated too harshly. We also had to ask to be served our croissants. (Hey that would have been good while one of us had food and the other did not! ;) ) And finally while on my way to the restroom before leaving, the hostess was sweeping. I politely waited for her to finish so I could pass, but she was completely unaware of herself and took a good two minutes to finally move a bit, so I attempted to pass and she stepped right back without looking and said "Excuse, me" in a rude tone, as if I'd done something wrong in attempting to pass through an open space. My mother always told me to look where I'm going before I start moving, but maybe that's not common? It still wasn't busy, but no one had noticed that there was pee all over everything in the bathroom. I commented to another patron that that particular room wasn't in good shape and the hostess overheard but declined to comment to me. Once I went inside the bathroom she asked him about it. Perhaps I was a B for walking to the bathroom earlier? The service here has never been great, which I usually excuse because it's so busy, but this Sunday revealed it has nothing to do with the crowd.

One glitch... but very good

By vratcliff |

There were four of us for lunch. My lactose intolerant granddaughter did have some issues with the kitchen getting her order straight but the three of us had no problem. The food was very good.... onion soup, an excellent salad and a corned beef hash( not particularly French but very nice) . We enjoyed a flight of Bloody Marys and a flight of mimosas...both delicious. The bread served was so good I bought a loaf to take home along with some macaron. I would definitely visit this restaurant again

Delicious food at a very fair price!

By katharine h |

This place has great, fresh food at very fair prices and very helpful staff! Also: the pastries are amazing! Great for breakfast and dinner. On my recent visit to Portland I went twice! I can highly recommend this place, also for solo-travellers as there are plenty of small tables and bar seating.

Good place to hang out

By jeanners14 |

Went here one busy Sunday afternoon. They do not accept reservation during brunch. Waited for about an hour But all Worth it. Ordered the chorizo hash scramble and my mom ordered the french onion soup. Coffee was also on point.

Delicate and delish

Extensive menu and large selection in the pastry case. Breakfast& brunch are my favs, but my neighbors have this as a standard Friday night dinner with wine locale.

Incredible! :-)

This place is AMAZING! 10 of us...7 adults & 3 kids...went here for breakfast/lunch! The food is off-the-hook! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, & extremely patient! Ate brunch here recently and found the selection, food quality and service to be very good. Quiche and salad was excellent. Saw some other dishes I would order in the future.

Pastries and Breads not Fresh

By Lvillejoe |

Disappointing. We were in the day before Thanksgiving and they were quite busy but we were seated fairly quickly. Lunch was fine but the Napoleon Dessert was not fresh - creams were stiff and the pastry was not crisp. Our waitress acknowledged the complaint and took it back and off of our bill. We chose a pastry and a loaf of bread to take with us - neither of these were fresh either. We like to visit on trips to Portland to visit family but are likely to be looking for a new destination.

Coffee and chocolate

By Heather Y |

My husband and I went there in the morning. This place smells like heaven when you walk in the door. I had what was possibly the best cafe au lait I have ever had. Since it was Easter weekend, I bought my grand daughter a dark chocolate duckling from their display. Thankfully she is generous and shared it with me. Their dark chocolate is smooth. I also got a couple of their flakey pastries and more chocolate for my son and daughter. The atmosphere of this place was busy but not frantic. We sat outside and people watched. It was great.

cozy and delicious

we returned for lunch after walking a lot in the snow...i began with a session lager, and my partner had the bfk...sat at the bar, nice and cozy...i had the wild salmon salad with sourdough, and she had the tuna melt with a cup of onion soup..the bartender is always funny and nice..she was training someone new, and being a fine mentor...the food is excellent as usual...thx again

Well worth the lineup

No visit to Portland is complete without a brunch at Petite Provence. Service is fast and friendly if a little harried because this place is always busy. Great for family and friends and our favorite brunch in this area.

Old world charm, contemporary menu

By bjgard |

We love a meal of small plates of goodness shared with a few friends and a glass of wine. Petite Provence in the eclectic Alberta neighborhood is perfect for that at lunch or dinner time. Save some room for dessert, because their pastries are as good as their appetizers, entrees and salads.

Great place

Every time I am in Portland , have to go to Petite Provence. Breakfast very good. Croissants are the best I have ever had. Buttery and crisp. You will not be disappointed

Good anytime

Never disappoints, morning, noon, or night. Always something interesting on the menu than delivers great flavor no matter what you’re in the mood for

Brunch

Met family members here for Sunday brunch. They all had egg dishes, I chose the beet salad and a croissant. Everyone enjoyed their choices. The roasted beet salad was delicious. It was sort of a mob scene so having a quiet conversation was a challenge.

Happy Hour & Petites Plats (1/2 size) Make for Enjoyable Tasting Menu

By dutchessabroad |

Service was forthcoming and friendly. Our waitress took great care regarding food sensitivities, advising alternative menu items. The house wine, a fruity, full bodied Concannon Cabernet didn't give me adverse reactions, which is rare for a reasonably priced wine. The French onion soup was "comme il faut", the red and yellow cubed beets topped with goat cheese over arugula was tasty. Hubby was happy with the Petite Cordon Bleu, lightly battered fried chicken, stuffed with cheese and ham and green beans steamed just right. The Boeuf Bouguignon made me giggle, I had expected familiar old-fashioned comfort food (à la Julia Child), the small medallion of beef that fit on a smallish Portobello mushroom the size of a silver dollar (probably slightly larger, more like 2.5 guilders of old) was tender, as promised, and surprisingly crunchy on top, but had nothing to do with the elevated stew I had set my mind on. The mashed potatoes were delicious, light and fluffy, the carrots had a bite to them. The burgundy and dark chocolate sauce was a pretty accent on the plate, but my palate was satisfied by the little pan juice that clung to the meat. We opted for just coffee. Intriguing to see espresso drinks but no straight espresso on the menu. We figured you can ask for an Americano without the water. All in all a lovely experience, and priced just right.

Portland Visit

While visiting Portland we had to visit Alberta St in the north east part of the city. This is a very interesting area and the Petite Provence was as good as its looks indicated. European atmosphere, excellent coffee & decadent pastries. What more could you ask for? Recommended

not to be missed

Little Bit of Provence in Portland

By Iolani D |

Petite Provence is a café/bakery located on Alberta Street in Portland. The area is getting gentrified with quaint little shops and colourful murals. Petite Provence offers breakfast or lunch/dinner with a French/Provencal flavour. I had poached eggs on a smoked coho salmon hash, accompanied by a huge croissant with home-made raspberry compote. My husband had a wangu burger on brioche. We were too full to order desserts but bought 3 loaves of bread --- French Country, Provencal Country and Italian and some pastries for the road. If you are tired of chain restaurant fares, give this little café a try . . . it is packed so go before 11 for lunch.

Great brunch!!! Jam!!!!

By Rolly T |

Went for brunch and we were able to get a table outdoors. First of all get the croissant with raspberry jam. They make their on Jam. So glad I bought two jars to take home to Vegas- wish I had both an extra one as we are almost complete out. It's so good. The pastries and macaroons were great. Our breakfast meals were are so delicious. Start with coffee or fresh squeezed juice. Love the banana foster like French toast. My chorizo hash was delicious. Bathroom is clean. Service is great. Will definitely come back when we visit Portland again.

A must for breakfast/lunch

By lazigirl |

We were lucky to be staying nearby, and were strolling by and noticed the crowds. We were lucky to get a table inside. Beautiful place- actually did remind me of a French cafe. Very nice servers and great menu. Huge portions, very tasty. Menu was a mix of breakfast /lunch/brunch. Would be easy to cater for anyone.

French Portland twist

By boblovesnat |

Number one, this is a great stop on a unique street in the NE corner of the city. We had a bit of a wait on a rainy day; but the staff were exceptional and accommodating even in a very busy lunch hour. The homemade quiche was light with a tender buttery crust. The grilled sandwich on their fresh baked bread was a home run. Try to make it here if you can.

For a meal with a French Flair

By Writer020 |

I enjoyed eating here last year with my granddaughter. She took French in high school and traveled to Paris with me a few years ago. We both agreed the food was yummy and reminded us of some of the French cuisine we ate in Paris, especially the baguette sandwiches. We topped lunch off with a French pastry. Warning: it can be very crowded at the brunch hour and for lunch. We recommend going mid-afternoon for a late lunch or just a French pastry and coffee or tea.

European breakfast

By KIngTV1 |

The atmosphere is very European with an amazing bakery and bread selection. We orders a Colette omelette and corn beef hash Both of these came with a croissant. The croissant was so flaky and came with a lovey jam. The omelet was accompanied by potatoes and squash. The portions are big enough for two people to share. The only negative we had was the corn beef has was on the salty side

Great food, great service

We were last here (in Portland) 4 years ago. We found this place by accident and were so happy with the food and service that we made a special effort to revisit it once again. Still good food and good service. How can you beat that?

Good all around

By Justin V |

I've been here several times with my wife, and once with my whole family. Service has always been very good, with friendly staff. Food is a bit expensive, but has always been good. Breakfast is always an excellent time to visit, and the breakfast cocktail menu is nice. Get there early if you don't want to wait for a table. There is a great walk-thru bakery at the front door waiting area for those of you that don't want to order a full meal and wait for a table. I always drool over the neat treats behind the counter there!!!

Wonderful -as Usual.

I've dined at this sweet restaurant many times. It never disappoints. The cocktails, food and desserts are creative and delicious. The ambiance and service Are top notch. I usually fall victim to the incredible desserts and take one home. FYI - The French music is charming.

Deliciousness on Valentines

By Cosmos Mariner |

What a nice option to have a 3 course option with tasty Valentine themed deserts. A single rose on every table. Lovely little place - great pastries and small plates. Staff is friendly and smiley. Family friendly too - I saw how quickly they delivered the pommes frites to the table with a 4 year old next to us. Warm atmosphere as well. Pleasantly surprised they had cocktails and a small but inviting wine lsit. Wild salmon which is always a fine choice was - though a little over cooked. Apple fennel salad was a treat as the parmasean was so additive to the excellent deliciousness. Always a warm finish to have a latte at the end of the meal. And then with one of their many fine deserts. Reasonably priced meal.
