My "grounds of choice" has been Philz since it's debuting in "the City" a few years ago. As Philz has been methodically expanding, I can now grab a serious cup of coffee a bit easier amd nearer to me. Friends from out-of-town, after some great ice cream (another review), wanted an equally great cup of coffee and I indicated that they would be in for a treat, to the "best cup of coffee" they have had anywhere"...I have had some good coffee in Latin America; Seattle, the coffee capital; NYC: and Europe but when it comes to Philz, we're talking about LeBron as opposed to the other super stars, seriously! My friends who fashion themselves coffee snobs, when leaving, said "there's nothing like Philz". Almost to the person, each of my first time guests leave, reciting how the tasting hints that are used to distinguish each choice on the menu, are just so "right on". My favorites are the deep flavors of Jacob's and Julie's, each dark blends...my wife's favorite, Tesora, lightly sweetened and with a mint leaf.

Amazing coffee and friendly employees - this is a must stop when we visit, now that we no longer live in SF. Yeah, we're those people on your flight that reek of coffee from the pounds and pounds of beans we buy to take home with us! This place is SO much better than Blue Bottle - don't be fooled by their fancy Ferry Building location :-)

If you have not visited Philz and you love coffee, you have been denied a wonderful experience. The coffee is made to perfection, one cup at a time, by an energetic, enthusiastic staff person who knows their stuff on coffee, how to prepare, serve, and make your cup just as you like it. I took a friend who had not been to a Philz Coffee (they have several locations in The Bay Area http://www.philzcoffee.com/Customer-Service/Store-Locations) and are negotiating for a Sausalito location), take your friend to Philz. We had the Turkish and the Philharmonic coffees this time. It't not fair to describe the taste. You have to experience the entire moment by going to Philz. You will walk out happy and ready to go!

Coffee for real coffee drinkers.

I honestly was so curious about the hype about this coffee when I visited bay area... and it is only a hype unfortunately... how can you call this coffee? If people are saying that it depends on barista, it depends on how they trained their barista nowadays... im sorry but for a product to have a good quality it needs consistency...

I discovered Philz in Santa Monica (I'm an LA local) and had to, clearly, try it in its native city. I visited SF over the Thanksgiving holiday and suggested that a colleague meet me there. He also loved it. Once again, I had the iced mocha tesora, and I was (again) in heaven. Please never stop making this drink, Philz.

I had heard that Philz Coffee was one of the better coffee places to try out when visiting San Francisco, California. So, I actually didn't have to go far to get a cup because on a morning walk through the Marina district I ran into their Coffee Truck (Philz is on wheels)! I also stopped by their location on Berry Street again during my trip. I enjoyed how they brew each cup as a pour over and do it to perfection. I tried a cup of their BOLD Tantalizing Turkish coffee (with hints of cardamom, maple and herbs) all topped off with organic almond milk and a sprig of fresh Moroccan mint leaf. Delicious! Cardamom • Maple • Herbs

I like coffee, but I am no aficionado. I know buying coffee instead of brewing it at home will cost more, but I can make an exception if the coffee is exceptionable. Philz has coffee that is a blend of different kinds of beans. It seems pretty unique. I've never seen another place do that at least. The price is not bad either. The service is also good too. I say it's worth a try.

This is a wonderful coffee company. The coffee is made right in front of you with pure cream and brown sugar. They adjust it just how you like it. Great taste and fabulous pastries. Try the ambrosia!

This place is.cool bc the baristas will.look at you, say "hmmmm".. and try to.make the drink fit you the way they think you'll like it. A great place to try. Do watch the prices though. I'd visit more regularly if prices were lower. It's a hip trendy coffee or tea stop that I'd recommend once for tourists

Excellent coffee with a personalised service! The choice and variety of blends is great! The service was quick on the day I was there but heard sometimes queues form out the door would be worth the wait though!

really enjoyed the atmosphere at philz on 24th. comfy, home-spun kitschy. no espresso here, they brew every cup individually within a minutes. wide variety of roasts and flavors to choose from. if you want a good cup of quick drip, philz is the place

Worth the stop, close to 24th St and Mission Bart. Indvidual brewing, nice atmosphere. One of these places that you only find leaving the beaten path, and just love it!

They make extremely strong coffee so if you like coffee from Starbucks, you will not like this one - it is MUCH stronger. A cup is around $3 but it's totally worth it.

The Mission Bay location has excellent pour over. Well worth the wait. Large windows with lots of light, closeness to UCSF.

I live in San Mateo and I have been coming to Philz in SF for about 11/2 years, almost every Sat. It really is a San Francisco atmosphere. The employees make it feel that way. They always make it the way you want it. Because it takes a little time for a cup of coffee, it makes me feel like I am getting a designer cup of coffee. The people that work there are a lot of fun and very considerate and helpful. The parking is a little tough, but I always get a spot. In my opinion, It is worth it. Also, because I am a Giant's fan, it is near AT&T park.

Each cup brewed to perfection after you order it...sweet!!!

They make each cup fresh! The coffee tastes wonderful! We had to stop here twice because it was so delicious. They put a mint leaf in some flavors. Unless you love mint, don't let your leaf sit in there for a long time because the flavor will become overwhelming. Highly recommend! A must taste!

Philz is amazing! Their original location in the Mission is amazing (just avoid the bathrooms).

A neat informal coffee house near AT&T baseball park. Great drip coffee, allow some time as it takes awhile to drip and each order is individually brewed.good blends and not expensive.

One of a kind coffee with individual brew every cup of coffee. They use heavy cream and a brown sugar to make their coffee. There was a line out the door but it was worth the wait. One of the best cups of coffee I have ever had.

The people working were so incredibly nice, the decor was cool and visually pleasing, and the coffee was excellent! My husband and I were so excited that they gave us our coffee for free since it was our first time there!!

I really became accustomed to American coffee; the kind that drips through a filter. In Australia we drink relatively strong coffee, Italian style. Americans drink their coffee all through a meal, have a pot on the table and so it has to be a bit lighter. Philz will make you your own choice of flavour of which there are many. This coffee house in in an old laundromat with something like wash or spin on the signage out in front. The lines move quickly at Philz and the dudes are awesome; cheeky, friendly and laid back. But what i love more than anything is that any time of day, if you can grab a seat out in front you will probably make friends with Bubbles, or Roy or any of the great people that i met and who friended me immediately, laughed and chatted and then took me to the movies. Thats how they freaking roll at Philz.

My first time here, and haven't been never in a coffee store like this!! Best quality coffee, prepared one by one, drop by drop. Spice, flavored, blended, dark, many different options, and also nice sweet things to eat with.

Stopped by for coffee based on very high recommendations from friends . This is a great place. Large selection and great service . Coffee is strong especially dark roast but everything is freshly ground . The atmosphere is great with wifi . Strongly recommend this place .

Our kids introduced us to this new coffee place in SF. Very hip but it's the selection of coffee that impressed us. The flavors mixed together were amazing Hot or Cold. So from here on forward if I had a choice, hands down it will be Philz!

People might not agree with me as this is my only opinion. This place is not your regular coffee shop. You think other two popular coffee shops are confusing, try this company. The place looks really busy because a lot of customers are waiting, I look at the board and I am lost already, I approach the desk to order and I was informed of multiple choice of coffee brands and how its made. With a blank face and no idea whatsoever I ask the server to make me a Tesoro based on her recommendation, I went to pay my order and ordered a scone to another desk. I waited about 15 minutes to have my coffee, I was ask to taste it first before leaving the counter for taste assurance, and they will make me another one if I do not like it, "the coffee is actually really good" best coffee I ever taste. I will call this a designer coffee because its pricey!! $7.00 for a large cup and 1 scone. This is my first time in this place and I am not coming back to get my morning fix. I can get my large cup of coffee for $1.00 @ M with some side and extra money to keep for my lunch. A simple black or with cream is gone.

It's new trendy place. You must be aware that it's not a regular coffee shop. It's filtered coffee. There are thousands of different types of coffee, so if you want a latte or a cappuccino this is not your place. The service is very slow. The pastries are ok. Free wifi

One of their many outlets. Popular. Good place to get a cup to go, but there are lots of choices around this area.

If you happen to be near this place, why grab a normal cup of coffee when you could grab an extreme poured over dynamo? Maybe 30 varieties of poured over blends, plus some interesting drinks. Coffee Shop plus plus.

visited while on a walking tour; a terrific spot. The staff were friendly, patient & helpful in suggesting the perfect brew (made 1 cup @ a time) for guests. The decor is fun & informative. A good stop & welcome oasis

I only popped in for a quick coffee while travelling but the staff was quite friendly, the place had a wonderful warm vibe and to top it off it was the best coffee I had in America! Cheers guys :)

Coffee made with love, stopped here every morning during our stay in San Francisco. An essential stop when in the city, great service, great atmosphere, great coffee.

With so many blends and coffe beans to choose from it was hard to choose one drink. Each drink is custom drip brewed and I decided on the iced coffee with dark chocolate and soy milk. Wonderful and Full of deep rich coffee flavor.

This coffee shop is highly recommended by the San Francisco relatives. The first attempt from other relatives who never try it before say it is very very good, even better than Starbucks! There are a lot of mixtures of coffee beans. Once ordered, it will be specially brewed per cup. You can even download apps to place your order. I have a Hot Chocolate which also has very good tastes. I choose sweet but I can also choose other tastes. If you are in San Francisco, don't miss it.

We dropped in for a coffee as we were walking through The Castro and Mission districts. Great coffee and really made you feel welcome.

If you're looking for comfy sofas, community-news posters, board games, and an awe-inspiring selection of coffees, then this is the place for you. If you're not sure what you want, the staff are great at recommending based on your tastes.

Amazing coffee, excellent service and fair pricing. We stopped off here while on a tour of San Francisco and boy am i glad we did. I had a mojito coffee and it was amazing. Tried to make it at home but it didn't taste the same. Looking forward to a return visit!

I went to the location at 24th/Folsom. It was some fantastic coffee... well worth the $3... I was in a little of an irrate mood one morning, but coffee was SO GOOD that it turned me around.

The coffee is good but when it comes to service with a smile, there is one barista that comes to mind. I think her name is Cianna , she is one of the most polite and employees here and she pays special attention to details. If you like your coffee a certain way just ask Cianna she will be happy to do it for you and with a big happy smile too!! Even if you don't know what's good here just ask and she will explain and make it to your liking. So if your a coffee fan then stop by at philz coffee and ask for Cianna , she will give you awesome service and with a smile too! =)

We stopped by Philz in the Mission for coffee. It's a large coffee shop focused on brewing single cups at a time. The drink I got was called a philharmonic: milk and coffee with cardamom, other spices, and mint garnish. The mocha is delicious as well, cocoa interwoven with coffee and milk. Definitely worth a stop!!! The Missions' Philz is located on Folsom street.

A friend and I ended up at Philz Coffee in SOMA, and I was really impressed. I had given up on drinking a decent cup of coffee on this trip to NorCal since none of my friends or family drink it, but wow! This stuff was great! I can't remember the name of the drink exactly, but it was something like "The best thing I ever drank." In any case, it came recommended from many of the servers (who were all very attentive and helpful), and it certainly kept me buzzing all day! The location is good and the interior is very comfortable. My friend and I stayed there over coffee and baklava for an hour or so, and I'd love to go back! For all travelers to the US who complain about the lack of good coffee, I really recommend this chain.

Simply bad coffee. My first and last visit to a Philz drip coffee place. I had a dark roast and my wife had a medium roast. Mine was made incorrectly from what I ordered, and the coffee was just bad, with both burnt taste and weak flavor. My wife’s coffee was also a weak flavor. Why be stingy with the amount of coffee grounds and make weak coffee that’s over $5 a cup? I can understand why they push their sweetened and flavored versions because the coffee itself is just sub-par.

What the Italians have done for espresso, Philz has done for drip coffee. Have been to the store in the Mission many times and in every instance have enjoyed an exceptional cup of coffee, made all the better by a lippy hipster behind the counter. It's a friendly place where even a midwesterner can feel at ease chatting with others in the line. The baked goods are good company for the brew.

Loved how the coffee is all pour over and made fresh per cup. This is definitely at a price premium, but worth a stop once in awhile. I was surprised to find that the cream in the regular coffee was real cream that you have to scoop from a bowl with a spoon. Lots of different choices for food and drink from other chain shops. There is a little note of a wait due to the freshness and care put into each cup, but no more than some other places that brag of personalized drinks.

SF natives love this place; coffee-loving visitors must stop in for a unique coffee-drinking experience. Order from the barista, who will guide you through the extensive list of coffee and help you select the blends that suit your taste. It's like having your own coffee consultant. Tell her how you like it - cream, light sweet, sweet heavy sweet, whatever, and let her brew your individual cup as you pay the cashier. This is slow coffee, each cup tended to with care.

Now this IS what coffee should be. I normally stick to espresso drinks, but I was anxious for some java after a long flight. The guy at the car rental place recommended Philz. It was awesome. The "bartender" asked questions about what I normally drink and enjoy. Her recommendation was spot on. She even mixed in the sugar to an oh-just-right amount of sweetness. I miss it already. How about a Philz in Manhattan? ... please.

Individually prepared filter coffee has become an art formin SF and Philz is one of the best. The coffee is probably not as good as at Blue Bottle, Four Barrels, and other places around the city, but the huge variety means you should be able to find something you like. They do tend to go heaven the cream, so be careful if that's a concern.

Nothing I've ever experienced in coffee! Philz is hands down the BEST coffee I've ever enjoyed. Next to Peets, this is by far the BEST. Great blends and amazing coffee beverages. More unique and different than your regular coffee brew house. A must try: Mint Mojito and the Ginger Snap iced coffees! Your taste buds will never be the same.

If you like drip coffee then this may be the place for you. It has a lot of bean varieties so and they seem to know their stuff. If your preference is for espresso based coffee (as commonly found in Italy, Australia, New Zealand, etc) then you may be very, VERY disappointed.

As Aussies, used to fresh roasted and ground, espresso coffee, my family and I found this place absolutely hilarious. Philz has won numerous prizes, and is the current reigning best coffee in San Francisco. We thought we had finally found an American cafe that could serve better coffee than we could make with a "french press" (plunger) in our hotel room. Coffee addicts queue for their award winning fixes, with florid, wordy, evocative descriptions of the many varieties covering several blackboards. The pretentious, beret-wearing barista merely scoops a spoonful of the required blend into a filter, pours on the hot water, then presents you with a cup of weak and flavourless filter coffee (overpriced too). My children said the milkshakes were as disappointing as the coffees - barely detectable flavours. Good for a laugh, but NOT great coffee.

The best yummiest coffee! Many awesome option to choose from. Brewed very differently than a normal coffee. Also their sandwiches are delicious. The people who work here are wonderful explainers.

New taste of coffee that will definitely make you fall in its love. I couldn’t imagine one day that I will drink coffee with fresh mint, but it’s really delicious.

Try the Turkish. You won't be disappointed. The buttery croissant was as good as the barrista at the counter said. I watched a manager turn down a tip with another customer. The Jacob's is also excellent, and the chocolate croissant was nothing short of divine. Coffee one cup at a time. No joke there... totally worth the minimal wait. Besides the employees are all friendly, all joking around and even apologizing for making me wait a whole 30 seconds. Are these people Canadian? Just kidding... awesome place early in the morning to meet the dogs in the morning.

I've been everywhere, this is the best coffee. Brewed by the cup, so good I made a specific stop in San Fran just to get it. Not to be missed; the vegan donuts, burritos.

I had heard stories about the Mojito Coffee. Let's just say it was worth the wait in line. We were headed to a Giants game (they allow you to bring food and drinks in :) My daughter had told me about the unique blend of mint and coffee that Philz does. I ordered it without sugar. It really did not need sugar. It was a refreshing coffee drink on a hot day. Will make this stop again! It is tucked back off 4th and Berry.

If you are spending time in the Mission district, make sure to stop by Philz for a little caffiene buzz. Delicious coffee made in an attentive one-cup-at-a-time process. Unique idea, and a fun experience.

They created a different experience. You choose your own right up to the type of coffee.Of course, I didn’t like it.I didn’t like it.

I stopped in for an espresso and everyone else got coffee. They tried to accommodate me but it was to watery. I know this is for coffe lovers which I do not drink. My coffe friends loved the selection.

just like it says...I get it. the different coffees were really great. I had a Turkish thing & the mojito another day....soooo worth it! i love that the baristas help you out and ask what kinds of things you like too. I'm already craving it again...

Philz coffee Berry Street corner opp Chaina Basin n Muni station is an nice n live Cafe .. Philz coffee with indoor as well outdoor seating .. normally occupied with computers n people operating .. Cucumber tomato begal and croissant n cookies with Coffee cuppa, combination went well .. it has Variety of bread, Cheese, yogurt available .. young people behind desk has smiling faces n service ..

Perhaps I'm just used to drinking espresso so I found the coffee (they only do drip) too weak and insipid and without "kick". I couldn't finish the coffee. Don't understand why there's a fascination with drip coffee. Having said that, I did purchase some ground coffee and made espresso at home. It's nice enough but no better than Blue Bottle.

The downtown location worked for us before we headed to the museum. First we sat here and rested after the BART ride and with our recovery we were able to head out once again, having enjoyed good coffee.

Great coffee made to order, freshly ground. Superb. Had a philharmonic and a zaatar pastry also excellent. They have a variety of coffee blends to choose from.

You have to describe which type of coffee you like and the staff will ask some questions about it. In the end they will give you a coffee that supposedly matches your taste... It's so much easier to order a coffee in Starbucks!! My coffee was very strong and it had a nice smell. It was ok. Not amazing.

I'm a Seattle guy so gotta have good coffee. Philz has amazing single cup brewed coffee that is the best I've ever had.... medium sweet with almond milk for me!

This place serves Turkish coffee. My guide knew of it and took me there. I was surprised because I am a very loyal fan of a different coffee place which is franchised all over the county. I was a little dubious about Turkish coffee. Needless to say, I brought home a bag of beans so I could enjoy it at home. Very nice with great service.

There's a great Philz near City Hall. If you are traveling to San Francisco, you have to try Philz. Unique local coffee shop that can blast away the fog on the most overcast day. Very powerful blends. Unique tasting coffee. Locals swear by Philz and you will too. This is the anti-Starbucks. And great atmosphere. I have been here several times and am always impressed how engaged and into the coffee the staff is here. They seem as hand-picked as the coffee beans. A very pleasant stop.

This is my favourite place to get coffee. I went to the location in the Mission which is the original location. However, there are now several in the area. The coffee is roastes on site, and blended to prefection. The baristas add evrything to cofee inclinding milk/cream and sugar if you so choose. One of my favoruite blends is the Philharmonic as it has a slight hint of cardamon. When friends go to San Francisco, I always ask them to bring me back some.

I stopped for coffee and nosh at Philz Coffee (4023 Castro) where they brew the coffee to order ONE CUP at a TIME. Needless to say, it was wonderful. So was the service. The staff seemed to know half their customers by name and though the place was packed and the coffee made to order, the wait was minimal. Philz has multiple locations - four in San Francisco alone (www.philzcoffee.com). Read more: http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/blatham/5/1331557091/tpod.html#ixzz1rOSl2sBm

Never had mint in a coffee before & wow!! Haven’t had such a great coffee like that in a long time! Highly recommend getting the Mint Mojito coffee!

Philz's Coffee is phenomenal. The Mint Iced Tea is my favorite, really the best I've had anywhere. The really do a great job with everything.

Philz is always my first choice! They make the perfect cup of coffee using the pot over method one cup at a time! The customer service is always exceptional whether you go to the Embarcadero or Burlingame location!

Artisan drip coffee where the barristers will brew to your taste. Had a Tesora which was really smooth because the acid is mostly removed from the beans. Wife had an Ambrosia with soy which was also good. You will notice the difference between a Starbucks and a Peets so check it out.

From what I told this place started off as a mini-mart, with Phil tending to the coffee bar. The coffee was so damn good that he put the rest of the store out of utility. Lots of really great selections that at first seem overwhelming. The descriptions on the big blackboard are split up by strength of roast (we are a big fan of the Ether and Turkish- which is served with mint). The line might be long but the service is super friendly and the atmosphere is good. If you're serious about good coffee, you'd be nuts to pass this place by. ATM and wi-fi in the shop, but they take credit cards (good thing because I also bought two pounds of coffee!)

Here is the secret to why Philz coffee is so frothy - heavy whipping cream. I love coffee and spend a lot of time making it. In talking to one of their baristas, I learned that they use heavy whipping cream in all of their drinks and if you watch how much they put in, it's pretty surprising. Coffee, which is naturally low-cal is made into a 100+ calory drink at Philz.

Great environment, music, leaders & not too mention really intentional offerings for everyone's tastebuds. Love the decor and love the vibe

There are dark, nediem, and light roasts, and all are made to your taste. You want light cream, no cream, or suger, you get it. Within each roast there are at least 4 to 6 choices. The favorite: DARK ROAST ETHER, with smoky dry charcoal flavors.

We were staying near to this coffee shop and were really curios what they offer. On our very last day, as the queue was not that long we tried hot and cold coffee. both were delicious. Do not miss this place. I have to admit that they operate very efficient and the queue was not a big problem.

Went to Philz Coffee in Portrero Hill next to 520 De Haro. Great custom brewed coffee. I had a oat bar that was outstanding. If you want a great cup of joe this is the place.

Not actually my favourite cafe, I prefer latte (I know, what do I know). However it is expert at what it does, and the mint mojito coffee almost converted me, it is an excellent drink. Best for take away coffee, since it always has loads of customers hanging around waiting for their drinks which affects the atmosphere, and the range of baked goods, is good but not extensive. If you are in the market for a great coffee to takeaway the line explains it all.

MINT MOJITO ICED COFFEE! I'm not a coffee drinker but this was recommended for me and it was the most refreshing iced coffee that I've ever had! Not too strong, just right. If it's to sweet, they can accommodate you.

yup enough said in title - light sweet, light almond milk, heavy mint...bingo - hang a right off of CalTrain SF station walk a block & you're in coffee heaven - cheers

best cup of coffee EVER! I'm from Seattle and been around as Starbucks grew up.... hands down best cup ever at Philz!

This is a destination place because of one thing. Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. I'm not sure how they make it but clearly there are angels working as baristas. This is something you'd need to try if you like iced coffee. Seriously. Like stop reading this and go. I'm serious. Go. Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. You're welcome.

I do love a good coffee place and Philz in San Fran is the one for me. I love the unique, different varieties of coffee. You can choose from dark, medium or light blends. They are all equally delicious. As someone from the UK, I was absolutely clueless to what to order. A barista helped me by making a recommendation. It was great. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable. If you're in San Fran and want a coffee that is different to the rest, then I would definitely recommend this place.

I stopped in for a caffeine fix and was pleased with their drop. I loved the mint leaf...it added another flavor nuance.

my husband and i have both been regulars here for about a year. the first time we had the great fortune of coming across this fabulous coffee house was when i noticed that their sign advertised that they individually drip each cup of coffee. i was sold the guy behind the counter, who i've come to know is jacob jabber, none other than the son of the establishment owner, and who bears an uncanny resemblance to bobby flay (sorry, no offense meant by that if he happens to see this- bobby flay but better?) looked me and my husband down and announced- i know what you'd like. trust me and we're glad we did. he made us two iced coffees, with EXTRA SUGAR and EXTRA CREAM and my god, oye. it tasted like a Nips coffee candy meets melted coffee ice cream. for those of you who may be reading this and thinking the really sweet thang is not for you, rest assured, i've seen many having their coffee black. something for everyone

Philz has multiple locations in the Bay area and they are all very consistent. They have 34+ blends of coffee, each well described. Each cup of coffee is made to order, so you can have it half decaf if you like. They are reasonably quick, but tend to be fairly busy. Do not come here for espresso drinks, they don't have a machine and it's not what they do. If you love the coffee, they can put you on subscription to send it to you monthly. Check out the website for all of the locations. The Van Ness location has a nice separate lounge area just across the hall from the actual service area.

Best coffee in SF. Great pastries too. A few locations around the city so one should be close to where you are staying

Ventured into Philz during the Folsom street food market a couple of Saturdays ago. Not having been to one his outlets before I joined the queue, good job it was long it allowed me to read through all the different blends and come up with a decision. The wait was worth it, the staff were friendly, and the coffee was excellent. Also had the bonus of meeting Phil himself at the store, and what a nice chap he is. Phil: Perhaps you could open one in the UK and show these other industrial coffee shops how to do it.

I visited Philz in Mill Valley, Ca. for the 1st time today. The customer service was outstanding. They even threw in a free pastry for being a 1st timer. The menu was short, and full of descriptions that I had never seen before, which I found exciting and not overwhelming. No lattes and typical Starbucks beverages. Ultimately, I decided on the iced mint mojito coffee. It was sweet, really creamy, and very refreshing due to the added REAL mint leaves that they put at the bottom of the cup! I wish I had a Philz near me. I would love to taste the other flavor combinations that they have on the menu. It was a pleasant and unique experience.

It's the best coffee I've ever had in an American coffee house. The selection and ability to make your own recipe and wait for it to be brewed in front of you is just stunning.

Trendy coffee shop that local hyper-casually dressed tech worker yuppies are obsessed with. I'm not patient enough for this place Stand around for 10 minutes before you order, then wait 5 more minutes for an overpriced cup of coffee. That said, some people love it, so worth trying out in case you might like it

Great place for a great! cup o coffee and a sugary treat. My daughter and I always go here when we are in town - the 18th street location. Last year when we were there, the guy at the counter remembered us the next day and what we had ordered the previous day. With as many customers as he probably had - we thought that was amazing! The coffee and the cranberry bread was delicious!

Visited after an early journey from our hotel into the city. We visited one located right by the caltrain station. Lots of coffees and drinks to choose from, with many flavours. Big queue out of the door when we arrived but took no time before we could order. Best tasting hot chocolate I have ever had! Would be the first place to visit when I come back to SF!

Our bus tour guide talked about the coffee and made fun of the time it takes to make the coffee and got me interested Many types and flavours to choose from, but what I liked was that each coffee had a pretty good description of what are you getting I ordered a dark chocolate and smoke... or something like that, and it was perfect. And yes, you order and have to sit down for a while... until is ready Great decoration, nice atmosphere Worth the wait

I've been there few times when i was in San Francisco. The people that works there were always very kind to me and here they have one of the best american coffee in San Francisco.

The original on 24th Street @Folsom is the best and a favorite.

My son's girlfriend said we had to try Philz. She heard it was amazing so we went to the one in San Francisco. It was not only amazing, but seriously the best coffee I have ever had! The people working there were super friendly, too! We left and afterwards decided we should have bought some beans so we stopped at the Philz in Sausalito and bought some. The people in that location were also super friendly! You gotta try Philz Coffee!

I considerer myself as an advance coffee taster, drinking 4 cups a day gave me that degree. But I knew nothing. I was on a business trip in San Francisco, and I was supposed to take the train south bound to Mountain View, by I missed the train and the next one wasn't due to an hour later. So I started walking in a cold, chilly, wet morning to the piers over 4th street When I spot this little place on a corner. The ambience is terrific, seems to be actively visited by locals, so you get your own dosis of local culture. The place specializes in giving you "A perfect cup of coffee" and they surprised me. They have a very wide range of blends, from dark to light, I particularly liked the Philtered Soul which is a sort of Hazelnut and cocoa mixture of notes. Coffee is brewed by hand, with no machines involved, almost artesanal. The baristas are really friendly and helpful, specially with those of us that were there for the first time. So If you are around the ATT Park, and you want a very good coffee. This is the place.

Hand poured, perfect every time I come here. Line can be a bit long, but it is worth the extra wait. They have good pastries and other breakfast food as well.

This place serves unique specialty coffee that you can make into lattes if you prefer. Really good. Lots of Breakfast items too like toasts. Be prepared to queue.

There are multiple locations but nothing beats the original, right? If you believe that adage, then head over to their location on 24th and Folsom. There you may even meet Phil himself. Each cup is brewed individually and you get to choose from 25 different blends. Plus, Dynamo Donuts is just 3 blocks away. http://www.dynamodonut.com/our_donuts.html On a personal level, I have a lot of love towards the shop in Castro where I first locked lips with Tesora (a medium roast blend).

Their menu is different from standard Italian coffees. I like their Philharmonic and the Arabic coffee. Place is great with free wifi and comfy sofa.

Philz Is a great place to get craft, handmade coffee. It's chill vibe and friendly staff make it a Friendly place to hangout. I would definitely recommend Philz in the future!

I stopped by and tried the Silken Splendor after speaking to one of their guys after I found out I couldn't get a double espresso! I was really pleased with the explanation that the server went into so I would be happy with my coffee. I'd recommend a Philz coffee from someone who doesn't normally like filter coffee!

Like the title said I tries the Mocha Tesora at the behest of someone else and I have to agree it's fantastic. I'd recommend the low sweetness level as even at low its got a bit of a sweet taste. Would visit again.

This is not Starbucks. Review the menu as this is not espresso. Creative coffee menu made fresh on order. Dancing Water is Medium hot with creamy cream. Yummy. The coffee roaster is local with lots of locations throughout SF. Really liked the vibe at this location. Michael at the register is patient and provides recommendations. He made the experience fun. There are tables and seats near the windows.

My first time with their style of coffee making - individual pours. Makes a very personalized experience and each coffee has its own vibe and flavor profile. Great coffee!

I'm here visiting my wife's brother and will be running in the famous "Bay to Breakers" race in a couple days. I have tried three different flavors of coffee in two days and they have ALL been delicious. Philz is THE BEST COFFEE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!

I don't know what more to say, other than this is the best cup of coffee I have ever had. I am in town on business and will be stopping by here as often as I can. Each cup is made individually. I love Starbucks, but Starbucks has NOTHING on this coffee.

WOW! I was blown away by the coffee menu! this place is amazing! you won't know what any of the names on the coffee menu mean, but the barista will be your best help. make sure you tell them what you like, the have so many different coffees. I love the one with mint in it.. but they are all good.. can't wait to go back..surely one of the main attractions in SF!

Whilst this coffee shop may be a little drab, the staff, food and drinks far exceed anything lacking in aesthetics. Even at 5:30 am, the staff are bright eyed bushy tailed and ready to rock out those drinks with pazaz. Ever had chai with a sprig of mint, it really works. As is typical of San Francisco, it is where the people and cultures of the world meet and blend, like one of their fabulous drinks. They also offer creamy jam toast that looks delicicios or advocado egg toast. I darent try it as my waist line already needs attention, but I am sure you would given half the chance.

Really. I was asked what kind of coffee I like. Nothing like what one would experience in Starbucks or Flying Star but literally, the coffee menu on the wall was filled with all kinds of coffees to suit the suiter. A blend. It was rainy outside and the locals can plug in. It's got character...just like it's inhabitants! My brew matched my mood and I know it was prepared with love.

Philz is a destination for me whenever I'm in SF. Wish they'd open a shop in Orange County. Today's treat was Anesthesia - subtle cardamom and other exotic flavors. Thanks for making my morning!

Philz is for coffee number one!! The best american coffee you can find in S Francisco, you have to try..

Great indie coffee and tea place in the Castro, Staff was warm and welcoming. I was in a tea mood, and the matte was excellent. I also had the avocado toast -- very enjoyable. A great place to relax for a bit and enjoy a coffee and snack.

This stuff is individually brewed, one cup at a time. The selection is mind boggling, and the quality is amazing. We went to the location in Berkeley. It was worth the wait. Take your own mug and you can get a large size for the price of a small coffee. You won't be sleepy!!

If you're visiting from out of town, do yourself a favor and check out the original location in the Mission--you won't be disappointed. The line is usually long on weekends, but it's worth it for the excellent (but pricey) java. Even though you'll be surrounded by hipsters, be not afraid. The staff is crazy friendly and will make suggestions for you. Be aware that the standard fixings of "cream and sugar" mean *actual* cream, so if you want a certain kind of milk be sure to specify. Tip: for a treat, go for the Mocha Tesora without added sugar. It's like a gourmet coffee-hot chocolate hybrid. Tip 2: the iced coffee is good but not amazing and therefore overpriced IMO.
Mojito Coffee!
I don't get to Philz often and had to stop when we saw it close to AT&T. The service is fantastic. One barrista takes the order and personalizes the product. I highly recommend the Mojito. I asked for it with no sweetener and it totally worked. Will definitely return!
