Not the best, but very very good!!

By DOMINARJVC |

For me it's always the same order, fresh spring rolls and Pho Tai. The spring rolls were nice but just using the cilantro leaves would of been better then chewing on a stem. The pho was great but I agree with other reviews I've read about the broth being mild...outside of having to flavor it up with some chili sauce. I will keep this on my list of great cheap eats...they also have a thriving to go business!!

Three Visits in Past 6 Weeks- ALL GOOD!

By docwhiteaustin |

Been here several times over past six weeks and have all enjoyed everything we got each time. Good service and reasonable prices. My fave is Vermicelli with Grilled Pork & Egg Roll (bun). Always fresh and tasty. Beef w/Baby Bok Choy, Triple Delight, and flat noodle dishes also very good. Nice Spring Rolls for appetizers. Lemongrass soup with seafood enjoyed by us as well. Good food every time we have visited. We will be back.

Has not yet met expectations, although hopeful for improvement

By Frank |

As a fan of Pho, and most asian noodle dishes, I had high hopes during my first 3 visits to this new Olmos Park establishment, which took over a space that seems to have had its share of failed restaurant concepts in the last few years. The interior of the space looks inviting and comfortable, which led to high hopes that the food would follow suit. In hopes of being fair, I tried 3 different dishes on each of my first 3 visits, and in each case came away with the same impression. Bland! I expected more flavor in the Pho's, and was also somewhat disappointed with the serving sizes. (this is especially true when comparing Pho Kim Long to other area Pho restaurants). Being a bit pricier than other nearby similar restaurants is likely due to its Olmos Park Location. However on one particular visit, when I requested that one of the ingredients on a Pho dish be held back, and perhaps another be increased instead, I found myself staring at 4 tiny shrimp in my bowl. The service on each of the 3 visits was un-even. But my hope is that this was due primarily to new employees still getting used to the restaurant and its menu. I have high hopes that on my 4th visit I'll see improvement. Nicely done Pho is a wonderful thing! Lets hope that my disappointing first 3 visits were simply due to growing pains.

Good Pad Thai and sandwiches

By Lizivipa |

Small location with affordable prices. Always full during lunch hours on weekdays. Menu needs improvement...not too many dishes compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in San Antonio. Try the sandwiches and the pad Thai which are really good and fresh. Waitress (lady that works on weekdays) not friendly nor accommodating. I've encountered some attitude issues with her myself. I prefer the owner and family member to give our order. My husband likes their pho but for my own taste, it needs more flavor.

First time Last Time

By k K |

The Pho was possibly the worst I have Ever had. Overly sweet, with poor quality meat-(brisket)tough, dry and no flavor and the tendon were so dissolved it was like jelly. No substance. We are used to Pho in Seattle, and this just didn't compare even remotely. The Chicken wings were way overcooked so very dry and just tasted like dead chicken. We don't eat out at restaurants much anymore for this very reason. Total waste of $28.00. Wait staff seemed very friendly and courteous.

The best Pho I have had, in years living at Alamo City

By Jose J |

The freshness of their ingredients and the quality of the brought distinguishes this restaurant from others, of the same style, in the city. I also enjoy the good service. This place gets packed at lunch time. However, there is a quick turnaround on table availability.

Pho Kim Long is Pho Kim good!!!

By kkamperr |

I love pho, and when I had my special combination pho at pho Kim long, I was happy. It had great flavor, the broth was rich and beefy. My bowl was huge and filling, with a large portion of noodles and the rest. I would have liked more tendon, but that’s just me. I will be back!!

Ate too much

By Gerald B |

We each had a Pho Dish and ordered the buttered chicken wings. One could have made a meal of just the wings. The food was excellent and the wait staff was terrific. Both the brisket and steak Pho dishes were excellent.

Pho was so good!!!

By Gilbert O |

I ate at this restaurant for this time and it did not disappoint. I took the advice of my Godson and had the combination Pho. It was so good I ate and slurped every last drop. The food came out so quick which was great. You can even customize your pho with sides they provide, that consist of bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapenos, bitter greens, and lime. The waiter even made a custom dipping sauce for us to try out for a future appetizer. Great food and great service you can't beat that combination. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of my pho, but plenty of folks that stopped by for a meal there have so take a quick look at those photos and feast your eyes. Enjoy!

Consistently good

By whenpigsfly70 |

This is a relatively unassuming restaurant from the outside. In fact, it would be easy to pass by, but doubt! This may be the best Pho in San Antonio. They use fresh ingredients and the broth in the pho is very flavorful. I also love the grilled pork spring rolls! They are amazing. Unfortunately, the pork in the shrimp and pork spring roll always tastes like bland boiled pork. The shrimp are nice and large though so I suggest either shrimp only or grilled pork.

Excellent Fresh Food

By Roger61Texas |

In San Antonio for a conference and took my college sophomore daughter out for dinner to a place of her choosing. She loves this place because the prices are good, the portions are huge (leftovers for the dorm room) and the food is excellent. She is right!! We shared fried squid to start - hot, fresh, salty - just right. Then she had one of the Pad Thai choices while I had a Pho. Both also very very good. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere near the Olmos Park area of the city.

Not at home yet!

By Frisco6 |

Pho Kim Long is a Vietnamese/Asian restaurant hidden in a parking lot, next to a gas station. You better know where it is because the signage is minimal and not particularly descriptive of the theme....just the name?? Food is consistently good but rarely a step above. On each visit we are reassured with lots of oriental diners who have a leg up since they know what they are ordering. Conversely the extensive menu is non-descriptive and the serving staff either unfamiliar with the menu or language...in either event you are on your own!! Décor minimal and hospitality similar. Too bad because it could be much more!!

Good pho; reasonable prices

By momdadkidsTexas |

I really, really enjoyed the pho with some sort of grilled pork. All members of our party ordered different types of pho, and everyone enjoyed it. The prices were extremely reasonable. I'm giving it 4 stars, but I want to say that I rarely add comments like this, but I think it's instructive for restaurants to hear about these practices. The restaurant was not busy and some friends and I were catching up a little after we ate. Again, it was not busy and we weren't there for hours. A person, presumably a server, came up and abruptly asked if everything was ok. We said it was fine, and I asked for more iced tea----they were not good about refilling them. She then brought me back a less than half full glass of iced tea, apparently to suggest we leave. She could have been out of tea, but if she was, she should have said so . . . I don't think anything but a rude inference could be drawn. We hadn't been making any requests or pestering or demanding anything. Her action was was unfortunate, because I really liked the restaurant overall.

Fresh but rather bland

By San Antonio member |

We were really hopeful when this restaurant opened but found the food rather bland. Since we had takeout, can't comment on the service.

Good neigborhood Vitenamese food.

We had a nice, quick and inexpensive meal here. The ingredients were fresh and the service was well executed for a neighborhood restaurant. I will return the next time I am in the area.

Good Fresh Food

By Patricia V |

Looking at the building from the outside is rather plain but inside is a quaint little delicious smelling restaurant. It was full during lunch time. The service was ok. However, the food is excellent and fresh. Saw many sorts of people dining. There were businessmen, construction crew, and locals from the Alamo Heights area. I ate the Pho Chicken bowl. It had lots of meat in it and delicious veggies. Restroom was clean.

BUGS IN MY FOOD, AND SHE STILL ASKED ME TO PAY!

By hialyse |

I ordered the pho and there was a CATERPILLAR attached to the broccoli, had been cooked with it. Gooey and disgusting. It had little legs and eyes. We'd only just gotten our food and there it was. It completely ruined my appetite (OBVIOUSLY), and when we told the owner we'd be leaving, she made a scene and demanded I pay for my drink, as if WE had done something wrong?! Absolute insanity! I would not eat here again if you paid me to. Wish I had taken a picture.

New Owners?

By DOMINARJVC |

I used to love at here twice a week when I lived down the street. Haven't been back for a couple years, just dined and though the inside is mostly decorated the same...the food is a bit different. Used to be one of my favorite Pho's places but it is not the same. The Pho has a nice flavor but not as deep as before, you get plenty of bean sprouts, Thai basil and cilantro but my limes were old with brown edges. Plenty of tendon and meatball but three slices of beef. I also ordered the fresh spring rolls with pork and shrimp and I have to say, they came out 30 seconds after ordering and smelled a bit fishy. I operated many well known restaurants in my day and I know "off" and they were a bit off, peanut sauce is now very generic. My Thai coffee came blended and would bet it was low grade coffee with a the condensed milk. Very disappointed and sad I'll not return....way too many other places to explore!!

Great Pho!

By dga120 |

This is a terrific restaurant...the Pho is great, that's what drew us in, but they have quite a few items on the menu to sample...we've tried several and have never been disappointed. They even have lunch specials and they're very good!

Good Vietnamese restaurant

By Tom078 |

We recently moved to Texas from Southern California. We frequently ate at Vietnamese restaurants in Orange County's Little Saigon so we are used to top-quality Vietnamese cuisine. Pho Kim Long is pretty good. I always order the pho which is reasonably priced and tasty. The broth seems slightly sweet, but everything else was fine. I got grilled beef which was lean and tender. Often, the beef in pho is fatty which I assume adds to the flavor of the broth, but I hate putting a big piece of fatty meat in mouth. There were plenty of herbs, lime and bean sprouts. All in all, it was a nice bowl of soup. My wife loves bun (or vermicelli) and she loved the big bowl she got. Her's was topped with grilled pork which she really enjoyed. The spring rolls are fresh and crisp with a lot of grilled pork. Our guest is on a restricted diet after some recent surgery and they told him they could fix anything on the menu for him and leave out the food items he is not allowed to eat. The prices are reasonable. We found the service to be very pleasant and efficient. The restaurant is clean and the staff greets you when you enter and yells out a thank you when you leave.

Very good

By DOMINARJVC |

Cheap good pho...chicken and beef are flavorful....seafood not so much. It's a staple in my to~go line up...fresh egg rolls are very good!!!

Wonderful!

By aaronfmd |

We love that this place is BYOB. Sandwiches and pho are wonderful. Service is fantastic. We eat here once a month or so. Highly recommend!

Not bad, just not particularly good.

By CiberDiver |

Food has a peculiar flavor, and is somewhat greasy - which is a first in describing Viet/Thai food, for me anyway. There are far better places. Best is Thong's Thai on Austin Hwy - and no, I'm not Thong's nor is that solicited.

Tried twice

By Mercedes6623 |

When I saw this restaurant at the corner of Olmos and McCullough, I commented that perhaps we should try it out. His reaction was surprising. He immediately said he would never walk into that restaurant again. As he rarely makes this kind of comment about any restaurant. It seems, that over a period of several months, he ate there. This first time, he said he tried a Bahn Mi sandwich, which he said was just OK. (He also mentioned that another place we like, The French Sandwich, has much better sandwiches.) Because he knows that every place has an off-day, he tried again. The second time, he ordered the pho, which was not very good. He really loves pho and orders it at many restaurants. He has a favorite and we return to that restaurant often. What really was the final straw, so to speak, was an issue about his tea. He felt the tea tasted strange, had an off-taste. His comments to his waitress about changing his drink, or at least, see if they have other teas, was overheard by an older gentleman, who my husband seemed to think may have been the owner. This older gentleman said, in a very loud voice, that if my husband didn't like the tea, he didn't have to drink it. That really bothered my husband, who only wanted to ask about another drink. Needless to say, he was very offended and didn't ask for anything else. I understand having a bad day; however, the comments were, obviously, said to be heard by, not only by my husband, but other customers as well. What any owner or manager try to do is encourage customers to return and do whatever they can to make their clients comfortable. This is certainly not the way to do it!

Good neighborhood Pho

By Lizzie M |

The pho here is very good. My son is an especially huge fan. They offer quite a few other options if not everyone wants pho. Service is always quick.

food is OK, service is surly

By scdaub |

We used to go to Pho occasionally for good oriental selections. Not great, but always able to find a table, and food was tasty. But we got tired of the surly service. THere's definitely a feeling that you should be glad they decided to let you in and feed you.

Good pho.

I've eaten the pho here a few times. It's been good each time. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. Prices are fair.

Good food

New Favorite

By flyer22016 |

Having been fortunate to travel to many cities in the US, when time permits I usually look for Vietnamese restaurants. My love of Pho and spring rolls keeps me searching for the taste experienced in the early '70s'in another part of our globe. Pho Kim Long brought me very close to the You Can't Go Back experience. The spring rolls were filled with a pork mix, served with lettuce and their version of wonderful fish sauce. Took me back forty nine years ago to a restaurant overlooking the Mekong River where we would eat them by the dozen. But the star of the show was the Pho, the best bowl ever. The beef and tendon combination, very rich broth and very generous accompaniment of basil, lime, peppers, mint and sprouts...just perfectly balanced Pho. Service was very good, wish I was still in San Antonio !

OK for a quick bowl of Pho

By murfk9 |

The Pho here is consistently decent, though lacking depth of flavor; the dining room and restroom are clean; the service is speedy, if not particularly friendly. Have not had good luck here with non-Pho items; the spring rolls, bun (vermicelli) dishes, even the occasional special--all are oddly bland, even when requested extra spicy. Bottom line; OK for a quick bowl of decent Pho

Good Pho

By Bob H |

A bit of a drive from downtown San Antonio, but worth the trip. The Pho is excellent, the service is fast, and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. "Bob's" rating on a 1-10 scale is 9.

Great pho, always a good option to take out!

By Briana Hernandez |

We have been coming here for years and it is constantly a go to for days off, when family or friends are in town or getting soup on a cold day. The vegetarian pho is great, it is loaded with a medley of vegetables and Tofu. Even if you order to go, they do not skimp out. You receive a generous portion that will definitely fill you up. The food is always consistant and does not disappoint. The lemongrass vermicelli bowls are also another favorite, the flavor is on point.
