first visit Won't be our last Tasty Pho

First visit! VERY good service, Tasty Pho, Chicken Noodle, and Flank steak. Very ample accompaniments. Small portions more than ample for lunch, too Will return for sure

Pho-nominal!

By Emwh |

We got there around 7 pm and the place was packed; we were fortunate to get a table. Around us were people looking very happy and satisfied. When our pho bowls arrived, we knew why. BEST PHO EVER! More than just a good hot meal on a cold winter night...great service and decent prices. I'll go back pho sure!

Pho of Oregon - Excellent!

By J Kimberly W |

I love Pho...but it has to be delicious. Read a review in the Oregonian about the Top 20 metro area restaurants that are a must, Pho of Oregon was listed as having the best pho in town...really? I had to go...and it was true! I got the vegetarian, no tofu, extra veggies...OMGosh! So good. I got the large ($1 more), it was so much I had lunch and dinner off it. I am kind of obsessing on it a bit...calculating my next visit, I can't wait!

Great food, "interesting" atmosphere

By ParrotRob |

We visited Pho Oregon based on its good ratings on TripAdvisor and the other major site. When we first got there it was a little difficult to find the entrance and I'm still not entirely convinced we didn't come in the back door (behind the building where the parking is). Anyway, when we went in I was a little worried because it was mostly empty and it was a Friday evening. Turns out we were just before the rush and it filled in fairly quickly. Our waiter was prompt with water, tea and menus. The menu is VERY large and unless you know exactly what you want, it can take some time to peruse. The waiter was a little impatient with us as we tried to decide. Ultimately we went with the fried spring rolls, the Pho Tom (shrimp) and a non-Pho dish with crispy chowmen noodles, beef, shrimp and vegetables. First things first - the food was excellent. The portion sizes for the Pho and Chowmen were very large and a good value for the money. The spring roll appetizer was very good, but disappointingly small for the $7 price. Both main courses were flavorful, the Pho broth was rich, and both dishes had a very satisfying protein-to-vegetable ratio. As for the service, the waiter seemed impatient as I said. He had very limited English, which wasn't really a problem, but he DID cop an attitude with my wife when she asked for a fork to help with the noodles as her chopstick proficiency is not so good. Now for the "interesting" part. As I said, there were not many people there when we arrived, but we were shown to a specific table. This was not a problem, as the environment is urban and there isn't much of a "view" to be had at any table versus any other, so we didn't think much of it. However, as more people filled in over the hour or so that we were there, the seating arrangement became very obvious. All of the tables on one side of the restaurant (the one closest to the entrance) were seated with Asians, while all non-Asians were seated on the far side of the restaurant. While this wasn't problematic in any way and didn't cause any issues, it was very blatant and obvious and I was very surprised to see this not only in 2019, but in a city as allegedly progressive and diverse as Portland. Go figure. That said, I'd still go back - the food was very good - definitely good enough to overcome the somewhat disappointing waiter (who, after all, may have just been having a bad day).

Best Bun ever

By DebbieonDawson |

You know this place is authentic because some of the wait staff only speak Vietnamese and the majority of clientele are also. This is a open, bright place with a bit of an industrial feel because everything is hard-surface and clean. Large family tables, racks of chopstix, utensils and condiments in the center--it really feels like places I have visited in HCMC/Saigon. We usually order bun (kind of a noodle and vegetable salad with a vinegar topping) rather than pho (hot beef soup) at any Vietnamese pho restaurants, and we've enjoyed most. But, our visit to Oregon Pho this past week produced the tastiest bun we have ever eaten--finely shredded vegetables and herbs, generous portions, well-marinated pork, shrimp and egg rolls over the top. We thought perhaps it was because we had been traveling and away from Asian cooking for several weeks that we thought it was so stupendous, but the others at our table agreed that this was outstanding. They have an extensive menu of many Vietnamese dishes we don't see outside Vietnam, and we've enjoyed some of them in the past, but after this experience, I don't think we will be able to resist the bun again, and will need to return soon. The only downside of this place is that because of all the hard surfaces and nothing to absorb sound, it gets loud, especially during busy times. So don't go expecting to have an intimate conversation with anyone. Just enjoy the food!

Yum and cheap

Great pho. My fussy 8 year old ate, which is revolutionary! Beef brisket was fatty though. Chicken pho was delicious

Always a pleasure

By Linh O |

This is one of the several restaurants my family loves coming back to. Most of us speak Vietnamese, and the servers are always happy to talk to us. The setting can be a bit daunting; you have to seat yourself, and it's usually quite loud. But the food is so worth it. They have a wide selection of traditional food: pho, rice dishes, meat, seafood, spring rolls. Everything is delicious. Definitely worth a trip.

Heard it is the place to go for Pho

By DT808 |

Was told by those in the know that this is the place to go for pho. Haven't tried any other places in Portland to compare, but it definitely was good. A bit sparse in my opinion on the bean sprouts and mint leaves but the broth is definitely good. You don't come here for the excellent service or ambiance, which indeed is lacking.

So delicious. The best.

By Miranda J |

Literally the best pho ever. Went as a large group. Fast. Friendly. So good. We had an appetizer. I wish I could remember what they were. Rolls of some sort. So good. I had the meatball pho. Delicious. Best pho broth ever.

One of the best

By Riverhaven |

Very very good food. Some of the best pho we have ever had. Fresh flavors. Fast, friendly service. Nothing fancy. Well worth a visit. Will return.

Worth the hype

By Denes E |

I have read many reviews that said how great this place was. It was incredible. The food was very good, the service was friendly and the price was affordable. I had previously only had one experience with pho and I am glad I gave it another try. The other dishes (non-pho) looked really good too.

My #1 Pho Restaurant

By rogetw |

Pho Oregon is my new #1 Pho restaurant in Portland area. Location is not the best, but: 1. Good off-street parking 2. Clean attractive interior 3. Very good menu 4. Very good broth 5. Lots of ingredients 6. Good service 7. Reasonable prices All-in-all, a great Pho experience!

NUMBER 1 Pho in Portland and the state.

You’ve tried the rest, now go to THE BEST. Squeaky clean, absolutely excellent Vietnamese food cooked by Vietnamese. Been going the for many years even back at the original restaurant down around a few corners. I’ve not had to wait because the restaurant is large with many tables. I’ve eaten Pho across the nation and all over Portland. There are more expensive restaurants, but the food simply does not compare. Nor do the portion sizes. They give you a lot of food folks, a lot. I don’t hesitate to recommend them and I’m glad they are hanging in there despite all of Portlands BS. This is the place folks, give them a try.

As Featured on The Oregonian's "Cheap Eats"

By Steve A |

We decided to try Pho Oregon after reading about it on The Oregonian's "Cheap Eats" article last week. From the framed articles on the wall it has been a favorite cheap eat for over 10 years. We really liked this place and will definitely go back. We had their signature Pho with every meat and also a Curry Chicken and rice. It was a great combo and the two of us were stuffed for ~$20. Service was OK, not a lot of English is spoken so getting an extra plate resulted in a bowl and they never refilled waters. Atmosphere felt more like a cafeteria than a sit down restaurant; so don't come expecting to have a romantic night. It is quite loud and busy.

Really good

By ElSchon |

Solid food. Main customer base is Vietnamese so they haven't put orange chicken or any other abominations on the menu. It's just good straight forward soup. I'll return again and again. Tried and enjoyed the banh xeo, bun bo Hue, hu tieu, and pho ga. Went in many times as well as take away. Service is fast and efficient.

Pho is the least of their menu.

By Justtravelled |

Parking lot is in the back. Careful parking near the door, do not park parallel spots, can get hit by the perpendicular parked cars when they reverse. When entering just hold up how many fingers in your party, and they will seat you almost instantly, unless you are coming during a rush (usually weekend between noon to 2pm). Menu us quite large, so if you are new to vietnamese food stick to pho, as it is easy to eat as a beginner, try the round beef, and brisket. As you become more adventurous in trying different foods, try the Bun Tom thit noung (Dry angel hair noodles with shrimp, grilled pork), which comes with cumbers, cilantro, mint leaves, lettuce, and some other vegetables, with a little bowl of fish sauce that you pour into the bowl and mix. Very refreshing and light feeling when eating it. They also have great dish that I normally get is the Cuon Dac Biet (pretty much a wrap that you create using rice paper that you dip in water and fill with lettuce and many other meats and pickled vegetables, and dry noodles. Dip in fish sauce or you can dip in a shrimp flavored sauce, kind of hard to explain. They have regular chicken and rice dish for the less adventurous. Again, the menu is bigger than other pho places. Atmosphere, the place is very cafeteria like because the loud chatting from the patrons. Like most pho places, you can pay for your meal, by heading up to the register and tell them your table number. Table number is marked by sticker on utensil holder on each table. Hope this helped.

Trust the fat man

By DAVID S |

fantastic place, the Pho is top notch, but they have much more there then that. Tends to be busy on weekends, very busy, so expect a wait time, but well worth the time. I will go back as often as I can.

Portland's pho plethora perplexing? This is a solid option!

By Thoma466 |

If the "pho" restaurant has a weak broth, I will never go back. Pho Oregon does not disappoint. Fragrant, beefy, fairly light on the woody spices, with rich ginger overtones. However, you really should try some of the other options. #58A is a grilled pork skewer heaven with wide rice noodles wrapping mushrooms and mince pork. The banh xeo is flawlessly executed and delightful. Che Oregon (on the drink menu) is so fun and remarkably tasty. Go crazy, and get an avocado milkshake with espresso (sinh to bo affogato). Portland has a great many good pho restaurants, and when I want pho I might go to any number of them (including here). However this place gets my repeat business when I want delicious Vietnamese but might have something other than pho.

Pho powerhouse

By Chris W |

What an amazing place. 11am on a Saturday and they were packed. At least 100 seats. The place was busy with so many people coming and going. The veggie pho was amazing. Great broth with strong hints of clover. The noodles fell apart easily. We will be back here many times. So yummy.

Great Vegetarian & Authentic Options

By Emilie D |

We tried Pho Oregon based on our location and reviews and were not disappointed. They have plenty of vegetarian options (not just the obligatory "you can substitute tofu") and my husband loved the #1 pho. Good size portions, quick service, and delicious. We will definitely be back.

As good—if not better—as the Vietnamese places back in Northern Virginia!

By zenborzoi |

We really liked this place as it’s very similar to Vietnamese restaurants back home. The ambience is the same with the brusque servers pointing you to your table as you arrive and then you pay the bill at the register at the bar counter. The food portions are generous and reasonably priced. We started with the summer rolls—one with shrimp and one with tofu—fresh and delectable! We ordered the shrimp pho with shrimp balls, the grilled pork chop and the beef stew with French baguette roll—all delicious! We are definitely coming back!

Original style

By Burk J |

Pho Oregon is certainly one of the original Pho shops in Portland and one of the places to go if you want the real deal. Not necessarily fancy or presumptuous, it’s worth the drive to 82nd if you want it authentic.

MSG Included.

By harry b |

I would like to be able to give Pho Oregon 5 stars. But do to the fact that what I can eat here is very limited. I learned the hard way when I ordered pho I asked if the used MSG and I was told "no" after eating my pho I had the worst headache. Caused by the MSG. Several months later I tried one other item and sure enough like clock work I ended up with a splitting headache. What I can order and do genuinely enjoy is they're fresh salad rolls with tofu and beverage of choice fresh young coconut. I particularly like the dipping sauce for the fresh rolls because it's not the heavy peanut sauce that most places use. It's a thinner and lighter sauce. iam really not sure what its made of but it tastes really good; and no MSG so I can actually enjoy it.

Pho Oregon (not Phopho as the entry says!)

By CascadeSalem |

This is our favorite place when we want a delicious, authentic Vietnamese meal. I keep returning to the best Bún bò Huế I've tasted this side of Hawaii. It comes with a generous plate of veggies, including shredded banana blossom, to stir into the spicy, nuanced broth. If you prefer, ask the waiter to leave out the congealed blood. Have fun trying new dishes from this extensive menu! The space feels Asian--lots of marble surfaces, lots of Asian guests, lots of families with children, lots of noise from voices bouncing off hard surfaces, staff rattling dishes as they clear tables, and waiters taking orders and serving food. If you're staying near the airport at a park-n-fly, this is a convenient restaurant to enjoy a light, yummy dinner the evening before your flight. They're open till 9 pm Tiny Lanvin French Bakery downstairs, off the parking lot, has tasty pastries and Banh mi baguette sandwiches.

Been eating Vietnamese here for years!

By Harleyca100 |

This restaurant should be in the top 10 in Portland. #1 for Pho (Vietnamese soup) for sure. It's on 82nd street, close to PDX and has great food. The spring rolls are to die for unless you are alergic ot peanuts and the combination Pho is excellent by any standards. I've been to the higher rated restaurants and surmise that the owners wrote their own reviews. I first ate Pho in Vietnam in 1967 and this place does it well, very well. Vietnames food is always a safe bet and anything on the menu will be good and no surprises. Vietnames iced coffee is fantastic and they do it right. Give it a try, lket me know how you like it.

Bo La Lot and Phở

By Melanie J |

We'd heard they serve a special Vietnamese dish named "Bo La Lot" which turned out to be seasoned minced beef wrapped with wild pepper leaf which is grilled to release a heavenly herb-like fragrance. The rolls are accompanied by rice paper, vermicelli, lettuce leaves, mint, cilantro, and basil to be enfolded and dipped into the salty/sweet/spicy "Nuoc cham" fish sauce. Absolutely delicious! A dish you must try! We also really enjoyed the vegetable Phở that was rich with flavor.

Needed Lunch

By thomas b |

Great place. Had the chance to have something I have not had for years. Prices are reasonable; service is great. Food is excellent.

Great Pho

By PacificNWUSA |

We stopped by Pho Oregon while cruising 82nd Avenue. With some of our family having been here before, we already had good expectations. Parking is best accomplished around the back of the building (which also houses a tiny Vietnamese bake shop). The pho served here is great and service is quick. There are no MSG headaches later and every table is well-equipped with a bottle of Sriracha and hoisin sauce. Highly recommended!

First time adventure

By ahkwife |

We were in need of lunch and close by. We desired to try Pho Oregan while in Portland . It was lunchtime on Sunday and it was packed. There were people waiting for tables but the turnover went quickly. It was obviously a great favorite with the locals. The service was fast and the waitstaff helpful. This is no frills but a grate new experience. The food was good and delivered quickly once we made up our minds. I'll go again if I have the opportunity.

YUM

By lew w |

Fabulous selection in addition to Pho. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. In fact, dinner was so great, we went back again the next day for lunch. Staff is very attentive, food comes fast.

Authentic Vietnamese place in Oregon

By Scenicview337 |

I've tried many Pho places in Oregon. This place is the best and authentic even compared to ones in California.

Excellent Vietnamese cuisine

By ucartech |

Located near the airport, Pho Oregon is offering very good Vietnamese food. The pork chop over rice and beef pho are so tasty and big size. No wonder there are quite a crowd with mostly Asian origin. Parking at the back is also not a problem even though located on the main road on the way to airport. The only problem with this restaurant, the waiter has limited English skill, which make us difficult to communicate. However, we recommend this Vietnamese restaurant in Portland.

Good Pho

By Sunshine1770 |

We enjoyed the Pho! We tried the combination shrimp and pork and spring roll. They were very good. Service was fast and staff were very responsive to any request. Parking lot at the back of the restaurant was a plus!

Awesome!

By _beegleh |

My friends and I were getting ready for a bridge game but needed to eat beforehand. The selection was wide, the service was excellent, and the food was even better! Between the four of us we had plenty to take home and enjoy again.

Institutional!

By Troy B |

That’s what this busy, reliable and consistent is in Portland - an institution! For about a decade or even more, people have been comforted by the satisfying Vietnamese noodle soup (in its many varieties), perfect for Oregon weather.

Good, solid Pho joint and open @ 9:00 AM

By _tomnguyen001 |

A great Pho joint in the SE area of Portland. Large facility, great Pho & other Vietnamese dishes. Efficient to deliver food to your table. Somewhat grumpy staff but you come here for the food, not ambience

Very Good Pho

By Steven M |

This place is actually just Pho Oregon, not sure why it says it is PhoPho Oregon. Anyways, a bit pricey for Pho, but good quality. A pet peeve of mine is that I had a question and no one there spoke English well enough to answer it, but perhaps that tells how true the authenticity of this place is. Pros - Big portions - Good Quality - Fast service Cons - Poor English/Communication - Bit pricey compared to other places - Not a large bubble tea selection (opted to not buy here) - No Banh Mi sandwiches (they serve bread with stew, but not actually sandwich) Overally worth a visit if looking simply for a good bowl of Pho.

The Real Deal

By Maya |

Pho Oregon across from Madison High School is filled with Asian's every time I've been there. I've been there when it's super crowded although it's big and I've never been turned away or had to wait to sit. They do everything to order though so service is not super fast. The dishes are very authentically prepared to their origins. The main entrance is from the rear so even if it looks like no one is there-there likely is a crowd inside. There is plenty of parking behind the building and along the street. I love the Vegetarian tofu options and always leave with leftovers.

Authentic and delicious: great place for a filling meal

By DoctorM |

Pho Oregon is the real deal when it comes to Vietnamese Beef Soup. Located just north of Interstate 84 on busy and sometimes sleazy 82th street which is the real 'china town' of Portland. But no sleaze issues here. Pho Oregon contains a large, clean and brightly lit single dinning room where you will be joined by dozens people enjoying their noodle soup. They have their own parking lot behind the building. As you expect in a Pho joint, it must start with a richly spiced home made beef broth and this one is excellent.. You can order your list of beef products ranging from cautious to exotic to be included in your bowl. Go ahead and get the tendon and the tripe: they are delicious and authentic. As usual, your bowl will be accompanied by a side dish of bean sprouts, jalapeno peppers, basil and a slice of lime which you can add as you choose. I recently ordered a bowl of the pork noodle soup with mixed success. The broth is outstanding and I enjoyed the BBQ pork, roast pork, and even the fried ground pork. But the inclusion of a slice of pork liver and soft-boiled quail eggs was a little too much for my Occidental palate. If you're not a Pho fan, you can order other traditional Vietnamese dishes including stir fried veggies and meat.

Thai home style cuisine

By Tosh S |

You can enjoy real authentic a Thai food. They serve delicious pho, porridge, curry, etc. One serving is enough to fill your hungry stomach. It's kind of close to the airport. So when going to the airport, you can stop by. Or on the way to downtown from the airport.

Pho Oregon: the Real Deal

By kiggie |

This restaurant has become a family favorite. Whenever anyone flies back to Portland, we go to Pho Oregon. It is clean and attractive, the service is very efficient, and the food is excellent. The family usually stick to the excellent Pho (the best in Portland?), but I explore the rest of the menu and have enjoyed everything. Getting help in choosing might be difficult as not all the servers speak English well, and yes, it is quite noisy and the granite tables are wide enough to make a table conversation difficult. But the point of the restaurant seems to be to provide reliably good food efficiently and they do that very well.

Loyal customer

By Mike B |

When I want a really good bowl of pho this is my go to place. The broth is deep and flavorful , meats are always thinly sliced and of high quality. The condiments are fresh and crisp. The service is very fast. This is a place where people go to eat not look at the decor. I drive some 15 miles to have lunch here and have never been disappointed. I have recommended this establishment to many people and have never received a negative comment. Don't miss this place.

Pho Done Well

By loopycynic |

Enough said. Pick Small or Large and how you want your fixings. Reasonable pricing. Very clean, including the restrooms which is not always the case with Pho Noodle Houses. A bit stingy on the amount of tripe but we made do. Fresh ingredients. Good broth. Would go again.

Pho Oregon is the real deal

By Gtex78 |

This place is changing my view about Pho. We are not from Oregon. We were introduced to this place by family members who live nearby. (Pho Oregon is one of their favorite restaurants.) I have not been a fan of Pho in the past, but this place will now get a visit whenever we go to Portland. There are many choices on the menu and the prices are reasonable. The "add-ins" are always fresh and tasty. There is also a large enough Vietnamese speaking clientele to confirm my opinion that this is the real deal in every way! A definite two thumbs up for Pho Oregon..

Great detour post flight!

By reenamm |

Great meal! Everything we had was tasty..nice that they had lots of vegetarian options. Herbs and veggies were very fresh!

Very good Pho. Good portion, and tasty. Price is a bit high compare to others.

By Tom H |

I have been there more than 10 times already. I like it because the portion is big and tasty. For a big eater like me, I have difficuty to finish my noodles sometimes. The price is about $9.50, compare to $8 at other places, Pho oregon is a bit high. The servers' English are terrible, sometimes when I asked them for extra beansprout, they have problem understanding.
