After 40 years in the Hawaiian Islands I have been trying a lot of the wildly varied other flavors than Asian. But this place was my lucky day! Clean, bright, airy dining room. Great service and some of the best food I have had in ages! Lemon grass pork skewers were beyond great. I had it as the rice entree first visit. I loved the pickled veggies and asked for a side order. Good portion and good price.Second visit I had the vermicelli dish with pork and crispy egg roll. So good. I cant wait to go back.

The most memorable thing was the avocado Shake. It was so divine! Need to know how to do that so I can do it at home. my little girl who needs calories, loved it. If you are into Keto-it works for that too. We visited this establishment on our recent trip to Portland OR. My son and his family love this place and they wanted to share it with us. I tried a number of different things as we ordered an assortment-all of it was VERY GOOD!

probably the most popular vietnamese place for a reason. prices have been increasing here but still a solid choice if you are wanting to try pho or other viet dishes.

The employees are super kind, and the food is so good, I went back a week later. The chicken noodle pho is an incredible dish, and I would recommend getting it.

I have always loved this place, but now I am not so sure. Parking lot full which is always a good sign in the past, but not tonight. Service was awful, no one came to our table for 10 minutes, I then had to ask for water 3 times. There were tons of people working there, but they were mostly starting to CLEAN. This was 1.5 hours before closing. Sweeping, mopping you name it. Totally ruined our experience. Food was not good either. My chicken was not cooked well, had to leave most of it and the mussels were tough and did not taste fresh.

Great Vietnamese food! Big bowls of food and we got some sides too, Big portion sizes and really reasonable prices!

We just stoped into Pho Van the other day, its been over a year between visits. The food and service is still the best , clean and healthy !! We love Pho Van

Don't know what else there is available for Vietnamese in Portland but this one has to be the best. Pho was super yummy and the spring rolls we ordered were great.

good quality ingredients. good service. best avacado smoothie- a must try! and the best ginger creme brulee i've ever had.

I'm lucky enough to live near the Pho Van on SE 82 and we frequent it a lot. This location has what I imagine to be a vietnamese/rustic decor complete with large parked buggy inside. The food I've had is great, though I'd know that the catfish is both very spicy and takes about 40 minutes to cook. Ordering takeout I've never had anything take more than 20 minutes. Enjoy...

This is one of the Bun restaurant I would recommend. I prefer the Pho Van Beaverton location over the location on 82nd. The pho here isn't authentic Vietnamese pho, it's more suited for Americans. My favorite dish here is the bun mang vit (bamboo shoot with duck noodle). I like their dessert selection. It's good. I like the Che Van. I like this restaurant because of their decor. The restaurant is really clean. The food here is kind of pricey. You pay the price for how the restaurant looks. Pho Van has several locations such as the Pearl District, 82nd, Beaverton, & Hawthrowne. The Pearl District one and Hawthrowne is totally overpriced. You get the same service and the type of food at their other locations. Sometimes you get service on a good day and other days you just wanna get out of there because you don't get any service. I don't like the 82nd location because of that reason. Some of the waitress/waiter judge you because of how you dress and so you don't get the same service as other people.

Met a friend there recently to chat during a Friday lunch rush. I always get the same thing on the menu (their vegetarian options are limited!). We got one of their booths on the side, which allowed for great conversation even though the place was packed! The service was efficient, but they didn't pressure us to leave when we were done eating. (I hadn't seen this friend in a couple years, so there was a lot to catch up on!) There's not much of the same quality in the area of this restaurant, so I'm always thankful they're out there! In short, always a strong, predictable experience -- and this time they didn't disappoint, either!

The food is always prepared as ordered. Made with very fresh products. Served quickly and professionally. Exceptional place for a business lunch.

This is where I have been going with my family for about 8 years to get Pho. Amazingly, the food is consistently great, not only the soup but Duck with lotus, rolls, etc.. They keep the place up-to-date and the service is very good, too.

Very nice decor and special dishes to boot. A place we take out of area guests or special occasions. Prices are higher, but you pay for the ambiance. Food is also good. It has a special grilled caramel catfish dish that I dont believe anywhere else has in the area. Also their fried chicken wings is tasty.

Good food, stupid "martini". Had no booze in it, just a sugary mix. Nice room, good service by beautiful girls. Except that they didn't know what a martini is.

This place is immaculate. The beef noodle pho was so immaculate, Jesus resurrected when I ordered it and stole my food. I had to order it again, and it was worth the wait. All jokes aside, the food is soooo good!

As recommended for the best Vietnamese sweet desert - chè ba màu in the 82nd street area. We went back for dinner the next day. The restaurant has an onsite parking area, and it is clean and cozy. We had to order the famous grill fish ahead of time so they do have enough time to prepare. For dinner, we also had Banh Xeo, goi Cuon and goi Tom Thịt. The foods and services are very good. Highly recommended

Good Pho for the American Palate. Always consistant and always good.

This is probably one of the better Pho in Portland. Sometimes when they're busy because they make everything separately it can take a little time but it is always worth waiting for. I have had the noodle soup many times and it is out of this world delicious today I had number 43 and the chicken was absolutely yummy as was the vegetables and rice. Love the Thai iced tea their creme brulee is to die for I just can't say enough about the good food at this restaurant and they are so accommodating to large groups. Today we were rather small but we've had as many is 12 plus people converge and they are able to take care of this the same as if it were two. We will go again and even though there are many other restaurants like this in the area and even closer to our homes this is the place we prefer to dine when in the mood for any kind of Vietnamese dining experience

Pho Van's vietnamese food is fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful with the menu. My family and I get dinner to go here quite often and have never been disappointed.

There are several locations. All have good Vietnamese food, a nice atmosphere, good service and are dependable. If you have never had Vietnamese food, this would be a great place to start. If you are a little more experienced, I'd recommend searching out some of the less upscale but more authentic places. You really can't go wrong with Pho Van though.

So far my best Vietnamese dining experience in Portland. 7 course beef FTW!

I really liked the restaurant; upscale but not pretentious. Food compared favorably with others.

The atmosphere was quiet and pleasant. Our waitress was attentive. The food seemed very authentic and nicely presented. The flavors and variety were delicious and unusual. The portions were more than adequate.

First time visit. The full parking lot was a good predictor of a highly enjoyable dining experience. Excellent Pho' and place is super clean. The staff scrub everything when not serving. The high ceilings, full size banana plant slow moving ceiling fans n Vietnamese art is striking. Definitely will return.

Visited this place and ordered 3 dishes I had never seen offered in other pho restaurants. We had the duck pho, which had a light broth, and the duck wasn't greasy at all. Do order this without the skin if you are not a fan of grease. We also had chicken grilled over peeled sugar cane and served with many veggies and rice paper you dipped in hot water to soften and roll yourself. To finish we had the beautiful and delicious bean and coconut dessert - so yummy it will make you re-think beans for dessert! The service was excellent and it was a peaceful and tastefully decorated place. I plan to return soon!

Consistently great Vietnamese food from this family-run restaurant. Piping hot soups. Classic rice and noodle dishes. Wide variety. Nice clean environment with parking.

I love the soups. I love the wraps. I like "playing with my food" by trying to create my own wraps with the rice paper, and then stuffing them with the fresh vegetables. I love the airy dining room. I return again and again!

Went for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. Parking lot full, but empty tables inside and we waited about 5 minutes to be seated; I'm guessing they slow down seating people depending on help available. Nice atmosphere with a variety of tables and booths to choose from. Service was attentive and fine. I had rice plate with 3 types of pork; tasty, different, and interesting. Didn't see fried rice plates which is what I usually order. Partner had beef pho and thought it was great. What made it great was "not salty" which is the usual complaint at many places. We will go back again when the chance occurs.

I also love their lemongrass chicken with rice. delicious fresh food. good service and fair prices

Great chicken dishes.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch. it was quiet early on (11am), but while we were there it filled up quite a bit. The service was good ... although there is a bit of a language hump to get over. (But I know the server's English was better than my non-existent Vietnamese.) We had Pho Chin (lean brisket in broth with rice noodles)and shrimp salad rolls. the rolls were filling, with flavorful peanut sauce for dipping. The pho was a sizable portion (for $1 more, I opted for the large size) of soothing comfort food. The brisket was indeed lean and very good.d

When we traveled to Vietnam last year, we made friends with a couple from Boston. When they visited us in Portland, we just had to take them to Pho Van. It is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant and we feel it rivals the best that we had in Vietnam. We ordered appetizers of Spring Rolls and Salad Rolls, both fresh and delicious. Our Saigon Meatballs with Noodles was plentiful, seasoned just right, and full of fresh veggies. The staff is attentive and will describe each dish accurately. The restaurant is well lit and tastefully decorated, and the prices will not break your budget. If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine, look no more.

Attracted by their external environment, we paid a visit to this restaurant. Going inside, the environment is still good - quiet and peaceful; a sharp contrast towards the outside traffic. Food is good and you don't feel thirsty aftermath but price is reasonable. Will visit them again next time when coming to Oregon. Service is also good.

you must try the ginger creme brulee

So, this was my first time trying Vietnamese food and I'm very happy with the restaurant, the taste is really really good and the place very nice, like very traditional. Our waitress was very helpful and the service was quick. It was an excellent experience

The food is fresh, delicious, well-prepared. The ambiance is lovely. Our water glasses were filled frequently (cold water, no ice, nice for several of my friends). Prices VERY reasonable. I intend to go there again.

Our service was good from the staff. The food was so yummy! Highly recommended. Beautiful interior of the restaurant.

I was walking in the Pearl District and chose this restaurant by its menu selections. Good food, friendly staff and outdoor seating made my lunch memorable in all good ways.

Love this place for the fresh, healthy Vietnamese. I sometimes get a craving for the flavors of my favorite dish, noodles with fresh veggies, marinated sliced pork, spring roll and fish sauce. Great service, beautiful decor and classy setting although not the best neighborhood, it isn't scary. Just don't leave anything valuable in the car and lock it. ;-) The pho was great but the broth lacked a little complexity in the flavor. Cheap eats at less than $10 for an average dish. There were a good amount of Asian people eating in the restaurant when I was there so that must be a good sign. There is a dish with minced chicken and shrimp wrapped around sugar cane and BBQed, comes with all the fixings to make your own wraps, sooo good and very fun, ask for a demo on how to put it together.

Great authentic Vietnamese cuisine at reasonable prices. lovely relaxed setting for a drink or great appetizers or bowls. The spicy dumplings, crispy or fresh spring rolls are to die for. All good. Enjoy

Stopped in for lunch as I was in the mood for Pho. Plenty of parking and the restaurant inside has a lot of seating. Nice decor with mini small palm trees with other Asian pieces. My server at first was a touch slow but after initial contact things went flawlessly. I ordered the Pho Dac Biet which has eye of round, flank, meatballs, brisket and tripe. I passed on the tripe. Once orders it was less then 5 minutes before it arrived. It was hot and served with Thai Basil, Jalapeño, and bean sprout. The table had several sauces to choose from such as Oyster sauce, Sirachi, and hoisin sauce. Good size portion with a lot of meat which you don’t always get at other places. Broth was very clean and tasty. I left FYI and for under $15 including tip. I would come back for sure if in the area.

Went for lunch after a long flight, food was fresh and I could see how many people would like it but it's just not my kind of food, but I dont like sweet with savory. Pretty on the inside, hookers on the outside.

We thought we were sitting in a restaurant in Saigon with the decoration (banana tree, cyclo, traditional musical instruments) and outfit of staff. There are multiple choice on the menu. But we only had Fresh spring rolls (very good) and Pho (ok not the best). However there were lots of beef in Pho. We were glad that we just got small size. Good Vietnamese coffee. If we have a chance to come back, we will try different dishes.

Great decor, atmosphere and food! Delicious Pho`, Vietnamese Crepes, crispy spring rolls

The restaurant was represented by a friend to be the best Vietnamese restaurant in Portland - failed! The service was bad, the tables were dirty and the food was bad. We are deeply disappointed by this popular restaurant. The ownership should pay more attention to the issues raised above before customers stop coming altogether.

Went there twice. Really great Vietnamese food. Service prompt but a bit cold. Relaxing ambience music.

Pho Van has several Portland metro-area locations, but not all of them offer the same menus. This one on SE 82nd Ave. boasts the Ca Nuong, a roasted catfish for two. It takes 45 minutes to prepare, which is why I suggest calling ahead. Of course, there are many wonderful Vietnamese dishes on the menu. And the Oregon and Washington wines they offer are varied and inexpensive, so you can order an appetizer and wait for your catfish. For dessert, try the che van, a shaved ice-tapioca-sweets delight that I hear are popular in Vietnam

They're definitely burning out and losing it. I ordered the big Pho Special, minus tripe. it came loaded with tripe but little else. I asked that they tripe be removed, but it came back still with some tripe in it and hardly any meat. I told the waitress, who said she was sorry but did nothing about it. I went home and had a bowl of cereal for supper. I won't be returning.

Great service and amazing food! A definite must, the pho was delicious. We will definitely be back! Ingredients were fresh, restaurant was clean and a bright nice atmosphere

Our dining experiences at Pho Van on 82nd are always grade A. Friendly, prompt service, and wonderful selection of delicious dishes. I highly recommend the perfectly flavored Mì Quảng (turmeric noodles) soup, the Bún Măng Vịt (duck and bamboo shoots) soup served with a generous plate of sliced duck meat and veggies, and the Mì Vịt Tiềm (braised duck) five spice soup. Pho soups are also excellent, as are the fresh spring rolls. In my opinion, the Bún Bò Huế (spicy beef & lemongrass) soup is better at Pho Oregon. The smaller Pho Van at Beaverton Town Sq. and "Silk," Pho Van's stylish space on Glisan in the Pearl, are also very good for lunch or dinner. A favorite treat at Silk is the piquant Goi Bap Chuoi (banana blossom salad). I haven't tried Pho Van's Hawthorne location. The 82nd St. restaurant is very convenient for a tasty light meal the evening before a flight if you're staying at a park-n-fly near the airport.

The food is delicious, good service, pretty and relaxing restaurant. They get the food out quickly and are accomodating to children. I have dined here at least a dozen times (probably more) and the food is top notch every time.

Ordered #1 pho for togo at 5:30 was told to wait for 5-10 minutes as it wasn't their peak time. Food came out 10 after six! Cannot believe how they can stay in business like this. While waiting, a nice waitress that offered a cup of water but when asked about my order, she was absolutely clueless and told me she was going to check but never to come be seen again. Finally got hold of another waiter and was told 5 more minutes.I wish I could say that was the end of the bad experience. But it was just getting started. When I opened the food at home, food was lukewarm and tasteless. But my dog was happy. I normally patronize Pho Hung on both Powell and Canyon. I thought I give these guys a try for change. Big mistake!! Eat there if you don't value your time or money.

i like pho

This Vietnamese restaurant is quite good. Our party of three showed up here sans reservation and were quickly seated. Service tools while to bring us H2O and our orders took a whole to reach the kitchen. Still the Crepe dish is amazing and we loved the ambience. However a few things need to be addressed: acoustics and the window shades. Please add some sound absorption tiles or layer in some soft surfaces. I could hear everyone around us talking as the dividers - while nice looking - pass all the conversations through. Second, I was facing west so as the sub set I had to put on my sunglasses. Please replace these with a room-darkening fabric. There are quick fixes and would elevate the experience tremendously. Peace

We have been going to Pho Van since it started up 82nd at another location. They have raised the prices and omitted some items we liked from the menu but still a great place to dine.

One of multiple spots around portland under the Pho Van name, this is a really solid Vietnamese place. Phos (soups) are really good but so too are the rice and noodle dishes. What sets this place apart from many of the other Vietnamese spots is the decor which is a bit more modern.

We eat at Pho Van several times. the service is outstanding, the food is hot and served quickly. I work in Vietnam and the food is very Authentic.

I was impressed with the atmosphere and the service was first rate. Then the aesthetically pleasing food that came to our table, tasted as good as it looked.

A good pho place. But it's my 6-year-old's favorite restaurant so we go here too much!

Good to go! Great, fresh ingredients--yum tom! very good service if staying in on a cold rainy Portland day!

This place is one of our absolute favorites. My wife and I have been coming here for years. Here is how we do it....You can copy our hints if you want....My wife first orders a Guava Margarita and it is STELLAR. I order the "Jack Fruit" smoothie....if you have never tried this...pull the trigger. Words can not describe what you are about to experience. And as the drink melts..it gets better and better. Then we order the chicken wings that come glazed in a Honey pepper reduction sauce that can not be duplicated at any other place I have found. Make sure and order them with EXTRA sauce...I will tell you why in a moment. Then we also get the salad rolls with peanut sauce, and with that make sure you order a side of "Fish Sauce". Dipping these rolls in either sauce are 2 dramatically different experiences. My wife swears by the fish sauce...I love the peanut. For the entree I always get #51 This is a Vermicelli noodle bowl with 2 skewers of pork, and 1 deep fried spring roll cut up. These items sit on a bed of noodles and fresh cold veggies all finely sliced. This dish will come with a side of fish sauce, and you will want to pour 1/2 of it all over everything...this will vreate an amazing sweet broth at the bottom of the bowl. Don't start eating yet...Now take the plate that had the extra chicken wing honey sauce and slowly let it drizzle all over the pork...OMG. Now dig in...DON'T let them take away the chicken wing plate, because that sauce on the bottom of the plate is great dipping for the spring roll and other items. The flavor of this pork on the skewers is so amazing, you will fall over. My wife gets the #7 which is a bowl of Pho Soup with the meatballs. We have gone to many Pho soup places around the country, and this is our favorite. The meatballs are tender, flavor superb... You can't go wrong if you try what I just described. The menu is big, long, and hard for me to understand. The pictures are horrible. I wish the menu had more photos. Oh well....it is what it is. Very clean.

Decent chicken, nice atmosphere. A little lacking in choice on the menus.

A classy Pho place.

I like this place. It is not my favorite pho restaurant, but it is good. It is not my favorite because the prices are a little high and it is a bit "sterile". It does not have that authentic feel you may get from other restaurants. That being said, the broth has great flavor and the beef is tender and delicious. Like I said, this place is close to my house, so it is convenient. The service is good as well.

I ordered from Pho Van through Uber Eats. Had the Honey Lemongrass Chicken and the Crispy Rolls. The chicken was thinly sliced with very good flavor. I would have preferred it a bit spicier, but it was so good I could not complain. Besides, the dish comes with a side of fish sauce, which I love, so that satisfied the entree. The rolls (4) were wider than the typical Vietnamese rolls, but that just made for more great eating. Plus more fish sauce for dipping. I have ordered from several Vietnamese places in Portland. So far this one has the best Crispy Rolls! I will order again on my next flight into town, Gotta try other items on their menu!

Other than their fried eggrolls everything else is about avg. The portions are not that great for the price. The place is spacious , but it seems like there's a lot of wasted space in there. Nice looking decor. Service was alright, not the best. Had to ask several times for cilantro. Water refill can be upsetting sometimes. This place is a little more americanized, nothing wrong with it, but considering I go to a lot of pho places, this is not my top choice.

The pho stock has wonderful flavor. The peanut sauce is some of the best we have had. Pho Van is one of our go-to places for a quick meal or to meet with guests. The musical instruments handing on the walls, the bonsai collection that is traded out so show off flowers, the motor scooter.. Great spot for a relaxing meal.

Wonderful taste and attentive service! Nicely decorated establishment in a city filled with Vietnamese restaurants.

I got hooked on vietnamese food years ago and have tried several different restaurants in the Portland area. If you look at my other posts I don't comment unless it is great! I just had the Dac Biet for lunch there and it was amazing. I will be going back to sample more of the menu.... Springer out!

I had such a pleasant lunch here. 82nd is a forgettable street. Pho Van stands out for being clean and well put together . And inside it is clean and organized. My food and coffee was so delicious. That night I dreamed of going back for more

I used to live in Portland, ate here from time to time, and always loved it. Now, almost 15 years later, I was able to enjoy a meal while passing through Portland. And nothing disappointed. From the start, the tone is set with the friendly and efficient service. The drinks of all sorts are outstanding, especially the avocado shakes. Food was great from starters to meals, and we even took some soup to go because I couldn't decide on just one meal. Fresh and filling. Yum!

Can't go wrong here, whether you want Pho, noodles, or a rice dish, all are excellent. Don't miss the salad rolls for an appie, with peanut dipping sauce, as they are freshly made and very flavorful due to the fresh herbs inside. I would recommend any of the noddle dishes, which come with a large portion of fresh vegetables and juicy grilled meats. Put this all together with the dressing and you have a big meal that won't have you leaving hungry or weighed down. Lastly the pho and egg noodle soups are fantastic. I've had the pho many times, usually in the colder weather, but tonight we tried the egg noddle soup. It was similar to pho, but with the rice noodles swapped out and some different meat and garnish choices. It was great. Dinner for 4 with an appie for about $50. Not to bad

I've been coming here for a long time and am happy now I can walk over for some amazing Vietnamese food. I've had most of the their soups, rice noodle bowls (#52 and #53 are family favorites.) Also good for kids. The decor is really pleasant as is the service.

Love Pho Van. We eat there all the time. Best Pho and noodle bowls in town.

Pho Van is a great restaurant located in a somewhat run down part of Portland. Never having dined at Pho Van and not familiar with the area the restaurant is located in, I must admit I was a little apprehensive as we neared its location. Visions of a dirty, little hole in the wall, Vietnamese restaurant went through my head. To my surprise Pho Van stood out like a finely polished diamond amongst a bunch of jagged rocks. The restaurant is immaculate inside and out. The interior is beautifully decorated in a upscale Vietnamese style. The decor and atmosphere makes you feel as if you are really dining at a fine restaurant in Vietnam. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic. Each person in our party of 6 said their meal was delicious and the food presentation was pleasing to the eye. Meal prices were comparable to most Vietnamese restaurants, but most Vietnamese restaurants are not nearly as nice as Pho Van. In conclusion, I believe anyone would be happy dining at Pho Van. The combination of great food, upscale atmosphere, cleanliness, friendly staff and reasonable prices made our dinner experience memorable.

We have pho every Sunday at a local restaurant where the family who owns the place has become our own. We told them we would be going to Portland and were told this was the place to get great Vietnamese food! We were not disappointed with the food, and the people who helped us were prompt and considerate.

Ordered a huge roasted catfish to share ... Brought to the table with the freshest of vegetables, rice paper wrappers, noodles and the best sauce. We sat, chatted and rolled some of the best bites imaginable. A wonderful, tasty way to spend a long lunch with friends. I have never seen fresher herbs and vegetables brought to a table! Also, ladies.....one of the prettiest ladies rooms I have ever entered! Just beautiful...especially for such a small establishment.

This is 100% best Pho I've ever had, easily beats all the others in town. They also have amazing spring rolls.

Service has gotten a bit slow lately, but the food is always very good. Pretty decoration. Does a good take-out business. too.

Pho has very rich flavor of beef and served hot so that's good Their Papaya Salas is outstanding , it is moist, have a little kick of fish sauce and amazingly no smell of unripe papaya. Will recommend

We have dined here several times and each time the food has been superior the service timely and the atmosphere divine ,we highly recommend great Pho. The ginger crem Brule is delightful.

First time at this place. The decor is neat. The food was wonderful but service was horrible. It wasn't busy so I'm not sure why service was so bad. Ordered drinks and food. Took 40 mins to get our first drink. I ordered Diet Pepsi. I asked for another one and it took over an hour to get. We got there at 6:30 pm and at 8:10 pm we finally got our food. I quickly asked for the check since I had an hour drive back. I didn't get my check till 9 pm. I had to go up to the front and pay. It's sad the service was so bad because the food is pretty good. I don't think I will go back. The food didn't justify for the horrible service. I recommend going to a different Pho place.

We got there just as it started to rain. The place made you feel welcome no muss or fuss. We followed Blane H's advice “Amazing.......I will tell you how we do it...”, follow this to the letter and you will have a phenomenal dining experience!

Authentic and scrumptious! Had an amazing family lunch filled with great food and conversation! Would definitely come again 😁

This place in the pearl district didn't strike me as much when we first walked in- just another average Asian restaurant. But my family was adamant that it was pho they wanted. I got one with chicken, my wife one with tofu and our child one with beef. The proteins were all good enough, but the veggies they were served with really made the meal- fresh with lots of variety. Thai basil, bean sprouts, and other greens were crunchy and flavorful. Service was also excellent, it was mid afternoon and they were very slow at that time. Tables were kind of sticky which was a bit off-putting, and it was a bit dim inside with not much ambiance. I'd give another star if the environment was nicer. Price was fair.

From the street this place does not look very large but it is quite deceptive. There is a fair amount of parking which I bet fills up pretty quickly on weekends. The list of options to eat is enormous which is quite daunting the first time you are there. I would actually look ahead of time at the menu to avoid paralysis of analysis. The food there has always been consistent and delicious. Service is quick and the food arrives promptly. The prices are fair and the servings are generous. You really can't go wrong with your choice. Enjoy.

Salad rolls were excellent, grilled catfish noodle dish was very good, vegetarian tofu noodle dish was very good. Service was friendly but slow. We were done eating most of our food before they brought out last dish.

Delicious! We ate two different pho (beef and veggie), the beef broth was some of the best we'd ever tasted. We also got a veggie/tofu noodle bowl which was light and tasty.

best ice coffee ever! get the number 50 it will not disappoint so good, the chicken is done so well, and with all the other flavors in the bowl is just to die for! I always stop here when in PDX

Very nice food. Everything was fresh, especially the greens. Seasoned perfectly. Service is excellent. It's a good place to go for newbies to this style of food. They will come back, as will I.

I always have number 51 or the chicken curry, salad roll, Mekong, and the Ginger Cre'am Brule' or Banana bread pudding.

Simple Vietnamese fare. So tasty!!! Lovely atmosphere and good service. I loved the spring rolls and the chicken salad was really good too.

We have been visiting the Hawthorne Pho Van for a number of years. It was my daughter favorite. While I still enjoyed my favorite curry dish, it didn't seem as fresh as in times past. The salad rolls were a bit warm and unappealing. The service was sincere but snail pace slow. I counted 6 service staff behind the counter and only a few tables. Think we will look for a new favorite.

My brother and I took my mom here for Mother's Day. We got there before the rush hit. The service was pretty average. My brother ordered the chicken and beef pho, but received the wrong soup...only chicken, he ate it anyways. On the other hand, the egg noodle soup my mom ordered was really good. For myself, I got the beef salad which was good except for the fact that it was swimming in sauce. We ordered some shrimp and pork salad rolls served with a peanut sauce...pretty good. All in all, not a bad place to go. It's pretty clean and the decor seamed authentic. I would go back again and try something else. The place is a little more pricey than all the other "Pho" restaurants, but you're also paying for the decor.

Clean. Can accommodate large parties. Almost elegant service. I am new to Vietnamese food, but I had a shrimp, pork noodle bowl that was excellent. It was light and not too filling but very tasty. I would definitely return for another repast.

We read many of the reviews, friends even suggested this restaurant, but we were disappointed. We read that the guava margaritas were excellent, that this was an upscale Vietnamese restaurant, and that the honey wings were splendid. My margarita was filled to the brim, so much so that it spilled all over the table and was a sticky mess and a sweet mix that I was not expecting. No one noticed or helped clean it up. I did not drink it, but ordered a dry white wine, much better. One review suggested #52 and both of our guests who ordered it, loved it. I ordered "meatball" pho. Not meatballs as I expected, but more of a processed sausage sliced. The broth was excellent, however. The wings were crispy, but the sauce was runny...maybe I was expecting a thicker, syrupy sauce. So, it could be my inexperience with the Vietnamese food, in general. The meal was over priced. The service, the food, not upscale. Disappointed.

Went with a seasoned veteran. I had hte best chicken noodle soup I've ever had with lime and thin noodles and hot or sweet sauce, or both. The lemongrass chicken with rice was to die for. The lunch prices are very reasonable. If you are thinking of trying Vietnamese for the first time, this is a great intro.

Had their signature Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls) & Pho Tai Nam (Round Steak & Flank) while my buddies had Bun Thit Cha Gil (Grilled Pork, Crispy Rolls over Vermicelli Noodles). Great food, nice decor & atmosphere, & polite & professional service. Highly recommended.

The pho and the bun are both excellent. We've eaten here several times while shopping the Hawthorne district

We went here for my mom's birthday and we all happened to be craving the bun bo hue-- it definitely satisfied as portions were huge, the broth was delicious, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. They also had a lot of extra herbs and veggies that you can add to your bowl-- something that many places skimp on, unfortunately. We also order their spring rolls as an appetizer and it was soooo good! Probably some of the best I've had (top ten for sure!), here in the states and abroad! To finish it off, we had a couple sinh to bo (an avocado shake) which could have been a little sweeter, but was still good. We also ordered a che, and it was beyond our expectation! We had to get one to go because it was so good! Definitely will come back and try out some more of their foods! Also, their service is amazing-- while waiting for the to-go che, which took a little longer than we thought, the waitress came over and apologize several times about the wait and offered to refill the teas that we were sipping on. She didn't have too-- we had already paid but it still made our day that she cared :)

We tried Pho Van for dinner on a Monday. It was our first time. Wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Entrees were tasty, using fresh herbs and veggies, and well prepared proteins. House made sauces on each table were particularly flavorful . Sides are pricier than other pho restaurants, but a bit bigger and clearly also made fresh. Pot of jasmine tea was about the best ever we have ordered in a restaurant. Vietnamese coffee was also pricey, but very good!

Very few restaurants provide a consistent imaginative experience as pho-van does so brilliantly. The menu's range of selection is the biggest challenge, especially given the amazingly modest pricing in a restful, delightful atmosphere. We always look forward to eating here during annual visits to Portland and consider it a 4 star experience each time.

We happened upon this place during a recent trip to Portland, and what a find it was for us! The interior is elegant, family-friendly atmosphere, with a wonderful friendly and efficient staff. The food was amazing; well-prepared using fresh ingredients. Truly a gem!

We have been to Vietnam, have lived in Asia for some time. I consider myself somewhat of a foodie. I can taste food without eating it. Sounds strange but it's true. Parts of the food we ordered were pretty authentic and other parts were Americanized BUT it was all delicious. We shared a salad roll and the green papaya salad which had fresh shrimp rather than the noxious dried shrimp typically served in Vietnam. If you've never tried the green papaya salad go for it! The grilled meats were super delicious and very authentic.

Nice and clean but a little disappointed by the menu. We had the crispy rolls and a soup but nothing outstanding

This place is what a crave on a daily bases. It somehow exceeds my expectations and keeps getting better. Everything on the menu is pretty much amazing. Great staff and ownership as well. Great little bar on one side (great happy hour), and street food side on the other. If you want cleaner, outstanding Vietnamese food, then look no further. 5 stars all the way.

Fresh Vietnamese cuisine. A gem found in the neighborhood. Delicious Vietnamese food that is not too expensive. It is worth the trip. Clean and comfortable.

This restaurant is one of the nicest in Portland. Good food, great wait staff and wonderful atmosphere. Our GNO group goes there as often as possible. Try the lotus blossom tea - SO good.

Authentic Vietnamese cuisine and we found it all so tasty. We ordered crispy rolls (pork and veggie versions), lemongrass chicken, chicken curry and rice and pork brochettes. Service was very friendly, quick and attentive. Place was full and clearly popular. We will be back again! Highly recommend this restaurant.

This was my 1st introduction to Pho. And now I'm hooked for life. I literally measure ALL other Pho by the PhoVan standard. Really, none measure up! It is always fresh and delicious. The service is lightening and the prices are more than fair!

Everything I've tried has been great. Though it's hard to not order their pho. A favorite for when guests are in town. Best Pho in town in my mind.

Tasty pho'

Wow this place is awesome as always! I haven’t been here in years and it is still the same outstanding food!! I highly recommend this place in the Pearl district

This is my favorite restaurant...I would eat here every day if I could.

ordered a viet ice tea & the crispy crepe hand roll but they were out of it. i didn't want to make my own hand roll which was the only other option with lettuce wraps. Ordered some lemongrass pork skewers on rice which was a really sad small portion for my hungry self and the waitress forgot my drink until i asked for it at the end. the ginger creme brulee almost made up for it

Not bad. Lunch was great tasting. We recommend the spring rolls and the chicken wings. Number 51 is great. The ambiance is quiet nice too.

Pho Van has a variety of entrees to choose from on their menu. However, my goal was to find a delicious Pho for lunch with friends. This Pho Van location offers at least eleven different varieties of Pho. I ordered the Tai Chin and my friends ordered the Tai Sach. Our meals arrived hot and very flavorful, including fresh Basil and Sprouts. Our wait was 10 minutes max and well worth the wait! Overall, their table service is fantastic and any of the staff we interacted with was very friendly. Very clean restaurant!

This is a large restaurant on a busy street. You will recognize it by the neatly clipped small trees in front. This season they were covered in white fairy lights.I liked everything about the restaurant - the pretty landscaping, the welcome, and above all, the food. Definitely a place to bring visitors. They do a brisk take-away business, too. Just one caution: we were seated behind the front desk, and because the door opened so often, we got frequent chilly blasts of air. So in cold weather I recommend asking to be seated in the middle or back of the restaurant. The surrounding area is a bit run down, but let's encourage businesses like this to thrive, and it should improve, one block at a time.

I have been coming here for years for lunch with coworkers and friends and brought my mom once when she was visiting out of state. the different Pho is great as is the Vietnamese chicken wings. I also love the salad wraps. Service is always attentive. Only gripe is sometimes food takes a long while to come out. But no biggie.

Very good food, fresh ingredients, friendly staff, fair prices, tasteful decor. This has to be the best restaurant on 82nd, and one of the best in Portland. It you like Vietnamese cuisine, this is the place.

I had some variant of spring rolls with pork. Very tasty, served on a salad with bean sprouts, which made it all very fresh.

We moved from the Los Angeles area to a small Southern Coast town in OR without a Vietnamese restaurant in sight. We came from a city in CA that had the best Vietnamese food and Pho to absolutely nothing!!. We were thrilled to find Pho Van and that they are dog friendly. Everything was fantastic, especially the chicken dumplings, YUM!!! We did not order Pho because it was so hot. The staff was so helpful and extremely friendly. We will be back and next time we will order Pho!!

Pho Van is a beautiful restaurant, with wonderfully exotic Vietnamese food. My favorite meal there is the Lean Brisket noodle soup with spring rolls and a Sapporo - yum, yum! This restaurant is always clean, and the servers are all very nice, but once you are seated you practically have to flag someone down to take your order. The price, the food and the atmosphere keep us going back, though.

Really nice atmosphere and large seating area with great decor. Friendly staff were working their tails off to satisfy the customers. Three of us got some kind of beef pho and chicken wing app. Everything was good!

Met friends for lunch. Great food and service. Will definitely be back. So many interesting items to choose.

This was a fresh, flavorful meal--at a bargain! Although it's famous for pho, we opted for other dishes on the menu. I ordered a beef salad and caramelized chicken wings, thinking that the two things would equal an entree. The salad alone provided a moderate meal-sized portion. The prices were very reasonable--dinner for two was $20 (without alcohol and before tip) and we both had plenty to eat. Given the modest prices and the location along 82nd, we expected this Pho Van to be a little spartan in decor, but it's actually quite attractive. The service was also very good--friendly and attentive.

I have been dining at Pho Van for many years. I like the salad rolls and skewered pork/shrimp with rice. My husband used to insist that after we picked someone up from the airport, we go have lunch or dinner at Pho Van. He loved the Pho and said it was some of the best. Service is usually good. Sometimes it is a little slow. But I prefer to go when it isn't crowded.

Pho, Fo or Fa?? However it is pronounced, this place does a good job. Ask for no noodles, and you have enough roughage for the whole day. Very flavorful.

I go to Pho Van all the time. It's a favorite. The beef salad is a special treat and although it looks small, it's very filling. The pho never fails to meet the craving.

During our vacation in Portland, OR we stopped at Pho Van for lunch. I have eaten at two other Vietnamese restaurants but neither compares with this one. We were seated promptly and our orders were taken. When my entree arrived, I was not sure what to do. The waitress picked up on this and asked if she could demonstrate and prepare my first item. I don't remember the name of my entree but I will never forget what it tasted like. This was out right good. Pho Van will be my standard to what a Vietnamese Restaurant should be like. I loved it.

Delicious food and great service. Consistently a go to spot for lunch! Excellent variety! Pho options are plentiful.

Lovely decor at this classy Vietnamese spot with a large menu on offer. The food is good but not as nuanced as I like for Vietnamese. Pho was ok, a bit salty and none of the wonderful star anise fragrance and depth I like. Good fresh meat and the usual accompaniments but nothing special. The descriptions sound fabulous and I expect some are great but the taste of the few dishes we tried was not quite all there. Five spice duck soup with egg noodle, shiitake and baby book choy was just too dry and one tone but did have a good amount of duck meat. The Hue style noodle soup dish had the good fish saucy funk going on but somehow was not as complex as other soups I've had of this style. I've heard good things about the catfish and despite my unenthusiastic review I would go back to try other things. Nice cocktails.

Try #40 - the pork dish. It is outstanding. My wife had good curry dish and she liked it. Beautiful decor, but pretty noisy so it would be hard to have a business conversation in the place when it is busy.

A little more expensive, but the experience is much nicer. Staff is a hit and miss... Some are nice, others, I am not sure why they are in the service work. Food is adequate and somewhat generic for the Caucasian taste buds. Nicely decor and clean. If you just want Pho, there are other options.

We enjoyed a quick lunch before boarding the Amtrak at the location near Portland's Union Station. Staff made a recommendation of a simple Pho lunch with chicken. Friendly and simple atmosphere with plenty of good customers. A wee bit expensive, but delicious food and a nice atmosphere.

Loveeeee the Pho at Silk by Pho Van and also Pho Van. One of my favorites for Pho! I usually get either the seafood pho, beef, or chicken, and they are all excellent!
Don’t be fooled by the neighborhood
Went for lunch with another couple. Very clean and well decorated inside. The servers were polite and efficient. Lunch items were $12-14 . Be advised the 'egg roll' is a plate-sized crisp egg confection with meat and shrimp inside. Delicious.
